- 0:00Hello,
- 0:00friends,
- 0:01and welcome back to more fun right here on the Aligned Actor
- 0:06pod tube stack.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 0:08It's a podcast that also goes out on YouTube,
- 0:11but mostly it lives on my sub stack.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: So wherever you have found this content offering today,
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: I welcome you and I'm so glad that you're here.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I am Amy Schlerb.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I am a professional actress and a mindfulness and mindset coach,
- 0:26and my passion is really helping actors smooth out that roller
- 0:33coaster ride of
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: being an actor.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: It is full of ups and downs, twists and turns,
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: It's just, it's a roller coaster.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: It's a ride, friends.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: If you know, you know.
- 0:46And I want to help make that ride as smooth and enjoyable and
- 0:51fun as possible
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: because we got into acting because it's fun and we enjoy doing it.
- 0:57and there's a lot of stuff that comes with that that is not so
- 1:00much fun and when we
- 1:01can find a way to handle that roller coaster go with the flow
- 1:07go with the up and
- 1:08then the down and then the up and then the down the twist the
- 1:12turn all of that
- 1:14stuff and we can handle that more gracefully in our lives
- 1:17through mindfulness and
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: mindset tools
- 1:21It just makes life and acting and our careers so much more
- 1:25enjoyable and pleasant.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: So that is my goal and my mission here at The Aligned Actor.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And once again, this week, it is time for us to practice mindfulness.
- 1:36Because mindfulness is a really important skill in terms of
- 1:41smoothing out that
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: roller coaster ride.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Because when we're aware of our thoughts,
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: we're aware of our feelings,
- 1:49when we can sit with our thoughts and our feelings in kind of a
- 1:52neutral place,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: which is something that we practice in mindfulness,
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: then it means that...
- 1:57you know as we're engaging in that roller coaster as we're
- 2:01being sort of flung
- 2:02around by the entertainment industry whether you know you get
- 2:05an audition and then
- 2:08that's awesome and you're like yeah and then you maybe you get
- 2:11pinned or you're on
- 2:12hold and you're like yeah this is awesome and then you get
- 2:16released and that's real
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: sucky nobody likes that
- 2:21And when you can sit with all of those feelings and those
- 2:24emotions and those
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: thoughts that you might be having about all of that,
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: when you can sit with that in a neutral place,
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: it makes it easier to deal with that.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: makes it more enjoyable, more pleasant to engage in your acting career.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: It makes you just, it makes the whole thing easier, friends.
- 2:43So that's why I am so gung-ho week after week about practicing
- 2:48mindfulness
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: together,
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: because this is a really important skill for actors.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: It's a really important skill for human beings in general.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: And
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I wanna demystify it because it's really not as complicated and hard and
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: frustrating as some people I think can make it seem.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: And so I wanna make a regular practice as easy as possible for you.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: So remember, mindfulness is incredibly simple.
- 3:15Mindfulness is a special way of paying attention to the present
- 3:18moment with
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: curiosity instead of judgment.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: So you're gonna focus on your breath
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: And you just notice whatever you notice going on within you.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Where are your thoughts?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: What emotions are present?
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: What sensations do you feel in your body maybe?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And then around you.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: What do you hear?
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: What do you see if your eyes are open while you're practicing?
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: What do you smell?
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Just what are your senses aware of?
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: So that's mindfulness.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 3:53if you notice that your mind wanders completely away from the
- 3:57present moment,
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: like you start thinking about that audition that you just had and how,
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 4:02you really should have said that one line like this other way
- 4:05because that would
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: have been way better.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And like, oh, did the casting director even like you?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Were you sure?
- 4:09Like,
- 4:09there was that awkward moment when you went into the room and
- 4:11like,
- 4:12oh.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: It helps.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Like sometimes our mind is going to do that.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Our mind is going to wander away from the present moment.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: There is no need to curse yourself out or berate yourself.
- 4:29All you're going to do is gently and kindly bring yourself back
- 4:33to your breath.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Focus on the sensation of the inhales and the exhales.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: And that's it.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: and you just gently readjust your focus.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: It's simple,
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: it's gentle,
- 4:47you rinse and repeat and you do that over and over and over
- 4:52again throughout the
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: mindfulness session.
- 4:54It doesn't matter how many times you do that,
- 4:56you're still practicing mindfulness.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And one of my favorite things about my mindfulness practice
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: is that it has increased my self-awareness and my awareness in general.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I've talked about this before in previous Substack posts,
- 5:15but it's so important and I love it so much that I felt like it
- 5:20warranted another
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: look at it,
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: a deeper look at it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Because for a long time, I've believed that awareness is a superpower.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: When I am aware of my thoughts and my feelings and my behaviors,
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I can choose to continue along with the status quo,
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: keep things the way that they are,
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: or I have the option to make a change.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: So in that way,
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: mindfulness,
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: being aware of all of these different things about myself,
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: this new information that mindfulness helps me gather about myself,
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: it gives me more control and more agency over my life.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: And for example,
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: for me,
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: not too long ago,
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: I became aware of my tendency to overly control my auditions.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: And I mean control in like a bad way,
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: not in that way of like,
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I get more control over my life and how I choose to live my life.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I mean control in an unhealthy, perfectionistic type way.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So I would obsess about memorization.
- 6:28And not only did I have to say the correct words,
- 6:31which yes,
- 6:32that is important.
- 6:32You need to say the words that are given to you in the script
- 6:35as an actor.
- 6:36That's kind of,
- 6:37you know,
- 6:38a basic,
- 6:39but I would obsess about performing the words correctly.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: the way that I thought the scene was supposed to go or should go.
- 6:49And so then if I had a take where I did something a little
- 6:52different because
- 6:53something about my scene partner or my reader caught me
- 6:58differently in that moment,
- 7:00I would be like,
- 7:01oh,
- 7:01no,
- 7:01but that's not that's not how it seems supposed to go.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: It's supposed to go like this.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: So we have to we have to do that again.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And it would get me all in my head.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: And unsurprisingly,
- 7:08I was so anxious about this whole process that I just couldn't
- 7:14enjoy my work.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I couldn't enjoy auditioning at all.
- 7:19And once I noticed that this uncomfortable audition state was
- 7:25something that I
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: experienced very often,
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: and I also would experience it on set even.
- 7:31Once I noticed it though,
- 7:33I was able to ask the question,
- 7:35is this working for me?
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: And sure,
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: I had been able to book some really good roles in film and television,
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: despite this tendency,
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: despite this audition state.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: And even,
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: working on set,
- 7:52like I would get through it and it would be great and I'd feel
- 7:55good about my work.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: but it always just felt really super stressful and not fun at all,
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: which is not what I got into acting for.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Because like many of you, I got into acting because I love it.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: I love connecting with my scene partner.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: I love playing in a world of imaginary circumstances.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: It's like playing pretend when you're a little kid,
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: like it's really fun and enjoyable and it just,
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: it feels good,
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: right?
- 8:26So trying to control and perfect my auditions and my time on
- 8:31set and like grasping
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: it,
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: holding it,
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: like approaching acting like this in a lot of ways,
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: yeah.
- 8:41It felt like the exact opposite of connection and play and that
- 8:47fun feeling that I
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: so love about acting.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: So thanks to my mindful awareness,
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: I was able to change my approach to auditions and to working on set.
- 9:00I still make sure to get all the words right because that's a
- 9:04respect thing for writers.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: The script has the job.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: I don't when I'm doing an audition, as my acting coach likes to say.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: But the words are no longer my sole focus in the audition.
- 9:21they're now a small part of a much bigger whole like a whole
- 9:26world that exists in
- 9:27that scene and my work in auditions my work on set it's become
- 9:33so much better
- 9:36because the work of the audition and the fun part of the
- 9:40audition is creating that
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: whole world for myself so let's practice mindfulness together today
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And as we practice,
- 9:51I would like you to notice that every time you notice a thought
- 10:01or a sound or that
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: your mind has wandered away,
- 10:04I want you to keep in mind that you are helping to strengthen
- 10:08your overall
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: awareness in general.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And that's a really cool thing.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: So see how that knowledge,
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: knowing that,
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: knowing that you're increasing your awareness as you practice this,
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: whatever it is that you notice today,
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: you're increasing your awareness overall.
- 10:25See how that knowledge,
- 10:26knowing that,
- 10:27impacts the rest of your day after this session.
- 10:31Because maybe you'll notice something new about yourself or
- 10:35your situation in life,
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: and you'll be able to make adjustments if needed.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: So let's practice together.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: So go ahead and find a comfortable position for your body.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: You can have your eyes open or closed,
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: whatever feels best for you today,
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: right now,
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: in this moment.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: And the first thing I want you to do is to just find your breath.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Just notice what it's doing right now.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Tuning into the inhales and the exhales.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: all the sensations that you feel when you breathe.
- 11:52For me,
- 11:52my breath took a minute to settle because I've been talking and
- 11:57I'm still talking.
- 12:24And as you're focusing on your breath,
- 12:27I invite you now to bring your awareness to your body.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: And specifically,
- 12:35bring your awareness to the contact between whatever surface is
- 12:42supporting you
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: today.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: whether that's a chair or a couch or a bed,
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: just notice the contact between your body and that surface.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: So you're breathing
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: You're aware of your breath.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: You're aware of where your body is in space.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: As you're holding these awarenesses,
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: if that's even a word,
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: as you're holding this awareness of breath and awareness of body,
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: you can just gently notice the thoughts that are arising in your mind.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: And just to get a little bit of distance from them,
- 14:30to keep them hopefully from pulling you too far into the past
- 14:36or off into the
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: future.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: When you notice a thought, just label it as thinking.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Or, oh, that's a thought I'm having.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I'm aware of that thought.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm choosing to stay with my breath in this moment.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Likewise,
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: if you notice a particular mood or emotion present in your body,
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: you can acknowledge that feeling,
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: the sensation of that emotion,
- 15:26You can maybe acknowledge the thoughts that might be going
- 15:29along with that emotion.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Maybe you can say to yourself, the feeling is present within me.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: And if you want,
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: You can label that feeling if you know what it is.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: But you don't have to.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: You can just say, I notice a feeling.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: I notice a mood.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: I notice an emotion.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: And you can notice it and stay with your breath.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: And of course,
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: if any of your thoughts or your feelings,
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: if they take your attention and drag you off into the past,
- 16:54or fling you into the future,
- 16:56you notice that you're just completely off the present moment.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Your mind has wandered completely away.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: That's no big deal.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: You're not a bad meditator.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: Once you notice,
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: that your mind has wandered away.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Just gently and kindly like you were guiding a little toddler.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Guide your mind back to your breath.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: Your breath
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: is always available to you.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Your breath lives in the present moment.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: It can't live in the past, can't live in the future.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Your breath is always present.
- 18:12So let your breath welcome you back to the present moment like
- 18:19a good friend
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: And then stay with your breath.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Stay in conversation with your breath.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: As you notice whatever you notice in your present moment.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: And yes, your present moment may be filled with thoughts and feelings.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: And that's okay.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Can you sit with those thoughts and those feelings?
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: But stay with your breath.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Let the thoughts swirl.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Let the feelings be.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: You don't have to get swept up in them.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: But you can sit with them.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: by staying gently focused on your breath.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Noticing your inhales.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: noticing your exhales,
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: allowing yourself to notice whatever you notice,
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: and knowing that everything that you notice,
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: every time you notice,
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: you're practicing awareness.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: And you're practicing mindfulness.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: And now as we come to the end of our mindfulness meditation session,
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: go ahead and thank yourself for practicing mindfulness.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: You did it.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Give yourself a little pat on the back for your practice today.
- 21:21Go ahead and bring some gentle movement into the body if that
- 21:25feels good.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: And whenever you're ready, you can open your eyes.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Welcome back, everybody.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: I was aware of many things during that meditation.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: I noticed two times that my screensaver came on on my
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: screen because there was a difference in the light.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: This happened in a previous session that I recorded.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: And so now I'm thinking,
- 21:59maybe I should change my screensaver settings just so that that
- 22:05light shift doesn't
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: happen.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Anyway, that's a little thing I noticed.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Just a little behind the scenes there for you.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: So as we're all enjoying the afterglow of that mindfulness session,
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: I always feel really good after those, after guiding them.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Remember that there are so many great benefits of mindfulness.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And it goes beyond just increasing your awareness.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: That's a huge benefit that I really enjoy.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: But there are so many benefits to mindfulness.
- 22:44Mindfulness can help you relieve tension and stress from your
- 22:47body and mind.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: I feel infinitely less tense in my body.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: I feel calmer in my mind as well.
- 22:56It can help you calm your nerves before you hit record on that
- 23:02big self-tape that
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: you might have coming up.
- 23:04It can also help your body get into a neutral place,
- 23:07your instrument,
- 23:08so that then you can put
- 23:10whatever you need to of the character on to that neutral sort
- 23:14of place that you
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: brought your body and mind to.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: It can help you stay more present in your craft,
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: really listening and reacting moment to moment,
- 23:24really taking in what your scene partner or your reader is
- 23:27giving to you and then
- 23:29giving back what it is that you need to in that scene based on
- 23:32what your character
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: wants.
- 23:34Speaking of what your character wants,
- 23:36it can help you get out of your auditions.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Don't get out of your auditions.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Don't do that.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Stay in your auditions.
- 23:43But get out of your head in your auditions and stay focused on
- 23:47what your character wants.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Mindfulness can really help you do that because you are aware, oh,
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking about booking this.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking about the results of this.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking, what does casting want?
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: How could I book this?
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: I'm not in this scene.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: My character doesn't care about acting.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: My character wants to deliver this memo to their co-worker.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: I made that up.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: But your character never wants to book the part.
- 24:13Your character wants to do something probably completely
- 24:17unrelated to acting,
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: unless you're auditioning for a chorus line.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: I guess that's one about actors or some other show about actors.
- 24:26So it helps you stay focused on the work of the audition,
- 24:30not the results of the audition.
- 24:33Mindfulness can also help you notice when your inner critic is
- 24:36being really mean to you.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: And then you can practice being kinder to yourself.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: And in that same way that we practice in mindfulness, oh, I noticed this.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: I'm going to come back to here.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Oh,
- 24:47I notice I'm being really critical of myself or I'm thinking
- 24:52some things that are
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: just not kind about Amy.
- 24:55SPEAKER_00: I don't really want to do that.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I'm going to bring myself back to kindness and compassion for myself.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Mindfulness can help you do that.
- 25:05It can also help you become less judgmental of yourself in
- 25:09general and of others as
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: you practice more.
- 25:11And it can also help you start to gently question if some of
- 25:16your dominant
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: thoughts,
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: some of the thoughts that you think kind of habitually,
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: if those are helping you or if those are holding you back.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: And that can be really helpful for your acting career,
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: and it can be helpful for your life in general.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Again, when we become aware of these things, then we get more choices.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: And choices are always good.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: The benefits of mindfulness are immediate,
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: as you noticed,
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: and maybe for yourself,
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: but I definitely noticed for me that I felt calmer,
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: more relaxed in my body after guiding that session.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: So there's immediate benefits that you get.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: And then there's cumulative benefits,
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: meaning that the more you practice,
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: you make this a regular part of your routine,
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: even just 10 minutes a day.
- 26:02It's going to make all of these benefits more and more
- 26:05accessible to you over time.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: And actually,
- 26:08I want to share with you before we go into all the things that
- 26:12I want to remind you
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: about in terms of the aligned actor and all the many things that I offer.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: I want to share with you one more mindfulness,
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: a way to like really jumpstart your practice,
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: which is basically counting breaths.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: And you're going to count to 10 on your inhales and your exhales.
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: And this is a really easy way to just get started in mindfulness.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: And it takes 30 seconds to a minute to do.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: And then you're like, oh, okay, that wasn't so hard.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe I could do a little more.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: So the way you do this is you count one on your inhale,
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: two on your exhale,
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: three on your inhale,
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: four,
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: on your exhale,
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: five on your inhale,
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: six on the exhale,
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: and so on and so forth,
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: up to 10 to start.
- 27:09You can keep going if you want to,
- 27:10but I recommend 10 just to get started.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: And that's a really easy way to just get started in mindfulness.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: And it gives you a little mini mindfulness break in your day.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like micro dosing mindfulness.
- 27:26It's a little tiny dose of mindfulness that you can put
- 27:29anywhere in your day,
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: anytime that you need just to come back to your breath,
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: to de-stress for a minute.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: It can be really helpful.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: So all of this just takes practice.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: And that's why I want to keep coming back to this,
- 27:46why I want to keep helping us practice mindfulness more and
- 27:50more and more.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: So that's just another way that you can do that.
- 27:54Now,
- 27:54a couple of things that I want to make you aware of or remind
- 27:58you of.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: But first,
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: make you aware of,
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: because you may not know yet,
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: because I haven't really told anybody.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: It just happened this week.
- 28:06I have switched it up so that I now can offer paid
- 28:12subscriptions on Substack.
- 28:14And the benefit of becoming a paid subscriber on my Substack is
- 28:18that you get access
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: to community Zooms with me.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: So you can support my ongoing work.
- 28:26support you know the the work that i do bringing mindfulness to
- 28:30people helping with
- 28:32mindset ideas and things like that and you can also enjoy
- 28:35office hours that's what
- 28:37i'm calling it with me so you can drop into a zoom session and
- 28:41experience maybe a
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: guided mindfulness or some supportive community-based mindset coaching
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: We're going to it's going to kind of just depend on who's there.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: And if it's just one person who shows up to office hours, great.
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: Maybe we can do some mindfulness and talk about what's up with you.
- 28:57Maybe if it's a bunch of people that come to office hours
- 29:01because it's a popular
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: time,
- 29:02then maybe we talk about something kind of general that is
- 29:06great for for mindset.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: We're going to kind of see how this goes as we go with it.
- 29:11But if you become a paid subscriber on my sub stack,
- 29:14you get access to that.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: So that's going to be a fun time.
- 29:17I encourage you to go to my Substack and become a paid
- 29:20subscriber.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: I will love you forever too.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: That'd be so awesome.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: I already love you.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: You're already awesome, but just thank you.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: That's so awesome.
- 29:30The other thing I want you to be aware of is that I have a free
- 29:34meditation that I
- 29:36offer specifically for actors because it's a pre-audition
- 29:40focusing meditation.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: And this is what's going to help you get out of your head,
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: stop thinking about the result,
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: stop thinking about booking it,
- 29:49and start thinking instead and completely stay focused on what
- 29:53your character wants
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: in the scene,
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: what's going on in the scene.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: It's going to help you calm your nerves.
- 30:00Let go of all those distracting thoughts and really focus in on
- 30:03your work so that
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: you can present your best work to casting and to production.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: And the more you're presenting your best work out into the world,
- 30:15SPEAKER_00: the more chances you have to book things.
- 30:17The more you're increasing your reputation in the industry and
- 30:21that's all to the good.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: So you can get that on my website.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, you can get that on my website, thealignedactor.com.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: It's also in a bunch of links,
- 30:32a lot of places that you would expect to find links like show

- 30:36SPEAKER_00: descriptions and links and bios on my social media.

- 30:41SPEAKER_00: It should not be that hard.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: So yes, you can go and get that.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: You can also pick up my ebook, Accessing Calm.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: That is full of super simple, fun mindfulness life hacks.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: They're like really short little tools,
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: like kind of like that micro dosing of mindfulness,
- 31:01like little tools that you can use to incorporate more
- 31:04mindfulness into your day to
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: help you calm down when you feel stressed out.
- 31:09These are the tools that help me release tension from my body
- 31:12throughout the day.
- 31:13They help keep my mind from spinning out of control with
- 31:16frustration and worry.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: And you can pick that up for just $7.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: It's a nice little morsel of an ebook.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: And it all comes with video demonstrations of each of the tools.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: And there's also some bonus mindfulness meditations in there.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: So you can
- 31:34practice with those so you can get that again on my website
- 31:38thealignedactor.com you
- 31:40can also get it various links uh you know where all the links
- 31:45are where you would
- 31:46expect to find the links but you can always find the links on
- 31:49thealignedactor.com
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: i'm going to probably talk about my website a lot today because why not
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: So I also have an upcoming workshop on mindfulness in November.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: It's exclusively for members of the SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Conservatory.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: So you do have to be a member of SAG-AFTRA,
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: the Actors' Union,
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: and you have to be a member of the SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Conservatory.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: That membership costs $45 for the year,
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: and it basically includes a ton of different workshops and classes and
- 32:25stuff that you can go down to this beautiful SAG building and
- 32:28take classes there.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: You can also take classes online.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: It's all kinds of different classes that are helpful for actors and their
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: continuing career and craft and all of that kind of stuff.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: So you can join that and then you can access my workshop.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: My workshop is all about mindfulness.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: Surprise, surprise.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: It's called Mindfulness 101.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: Empower your craft and your career with your presence.
- 32:53Come learn about mindfulness and the many advantages it offers
- 32:56performers.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: Experience a guided mindfulness meditation.
- 32:59Explore the benefits of developing a daily mindfulness practice
- 33:03and learn some
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: quick centering tools to use in auditions and on set.
- 33:08So there are links where you can get to the calendar of the Los
- 33:13Angeles SAG-AFTRA Conservatory.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: and you can go find my class if you want to do that.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: And then finally,
- 33:23if you're ready to embrace like fully embrace all this
- 33:26mindfulness and mindset
- 33:28stuff so that you can smooth out that roller coaster of being
- 33:33an actor so that you
- 33:34can not get so sick every time that you get an audition and
- 33:40then get pinned and
- 33:40then lose the get released and you know like if you just want
- 33:44to smooth all that
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: out if
- 33:46If you want to feel better about your acting career overall and
- 33:51just kind of take a
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: giant chill pill maybe about everything,
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: I would love to offer you a complimentary session.
- 34:02This is a chance for us to connect and for you to walk away
- 34:07with some specific
- 34:09actionable ideas that you can start applying right away to
- 34:13shift your mindset
- 34:15shift how you feel about yourself as an actor and really just
- 34:20calm down and feel
- 34:22better about everything overall and you could maybe even think
- 34:26of it like an
- 34:26audition where you're the production team and so i come in and
- 34:32i audition for you
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: in the role of coach the role of your mindfulness and mindset coach
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: And then you get to see what that experience is like.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: You get to experience it for yourself.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: And then after you get to ask yourself the question,
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: does my production need a mindfulness and mindset coach right now?
- 34:51Is this something that would be beneficial to my overall life
- 34:57as an actor?
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: And is Amy the right person for that role?
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: you get to just see for yourself.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: So it sounds kind of fun, right?
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: I mean,
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: who doesn't love an audition,
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: especially when you're not the one auditioning,
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: although we all like auditioning too,
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: because then we're acting.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: So yeah, auditions are good all around.
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: That's what I have for you today, folks.
- 35:18I wish you all the best and I hope you're having a great day
- 35:22and I will talk to you soon.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: Bye.
