- 0:05Hello and welcome back to another episode Reminds me to
- 0:08broadcast. I'm joined again by Charles.
- 0:11How are you? I'm very good, Yeah.
- 0:13Business is normal. Business as that's not the
- 0:15saying business as usual. Business is normal.
- 0:18Oh God. I think you are.
- 0:20I think you have two different things in my head when I said
- 0:22that. But we've resumed normality.
- 0:24We have we're not in by the sunny Majorca eating Spanish
- 0:28food, living our no bro boys life.
- 0:30I know. It's a shame, isn't it?
- 0:31Yeah. That song is really had an
- 0:34impact on me this summer, I must say.
- 0:36Resonate with that song you. Do resonate with that song
- 0:39ironically since since So true since we've been back so a lot
- 0:46of things have actually happened in the sports world so I thought
- 0:49we'd do a quick run through of what's been going on. 1st
- 0:54England lost the cricket against India.
- 0:57However Chris wokes damn. I knew you were going to bring
- 1:01this up. He's got balls.
- 1:03Yeah. Walking out to bat one handed,
- 1:06That's crazy. Unheard of isn't.
- 1:07It I know so do you know what? When I was looking this up to
- 1:10see if I could give you any interesting information, the
- 1:13most interesting piece of information was him saying to
- 1:16the press, this is not what I want to be on the front page
- 1:18for. Don't want to continue to do
- 1:21this will you? But take the credit.
- 1:23Fair enough. No, that was cool.
- 1:25Also Lions rugby did win 21 slightly disappointing last game
- 1:31it was. Wasn't it?
- 1:32But, you know, we'll take the win overall, that's that's it
- 1:35for another four years. Did you watch the last Test?
- 1:38I didn't. I watched the highlights.
- 1:39You see, it got the high like it got kind of postponed because of
- 1:42the bad weather. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:45Yeah, like really bad. They briefly touched on that,
- 1:47yeah, 40 ish minutes. They were all brought off the
- 1:50pitch inside, which kind of took this thing out of the game.
- 1:53But it was a bit of a shame really that Australia didn't
- 1:56turn up in the second Test so that the third Test was a bit
- 1:59more competitive. I.
- 2:00Think that's the thing that's really annoying about it being
- 2:02like a three. It's almost like, what's the
- 2:03point in the main series? Why?
- 2:04Why are you playing the third? Yeah, it's an issue because
- 2:07like, they've organized it. It's got to be done.
- 2:10Did You Know that this is a good fact?
- 2:13There's an Australian rugby player called Harry Potter, is
- 2:16there? There actually is, yeah.
- 2:18Is he a wizard? Is he good at what he does?
- 2:20He. I the way he didn't get he
- 2:22didn't get selected to play. That's such a random fact
- 2:25though. I didn't love that I.
- 2:26Remember the the commentary team were talking about how he didn't
- 2:29get selected and then I had to Google it to make sure it was
- 2:31actually true? But yeah, Harry Potter.
- 2:33Oh wow, another update that I've got for us in terms of like live
- 2:38updates that have happened, it's actually related to high rocks,
- 2:41so we can make this relevant broadcast a little bit more.
- 2:44There's been a new update for the Elite 15 in the penalties,
- 2:49so the timing penalty situation. OK, I do.
- 2:52Yeah, you come to the end of your race and then you'd find
- 2:54out you've been slapped with A1 minute penalty and then you
- 2:56actually see that you didn't win, you're not the world
- 2:58champion, you've actually finished 8th overall.
- 3:02Now what they've said is once you finish your 100 wobbles, you
- 3:06serve your time penalty in a box before you can cross the line
- 3:10and I love this. I do as.
- 3:14Well, all the ironic reasons. Talk me through what you.
- 3:18Reckon there's going to be a load of people standing around
- 3:20that box heckling. I think the the atmosphere
- 3:24around that person is going to be awful, but I just also love
- 3:29that they've just, they've said that it's going to be in a box,
- 3:31but it has to be called the naughty step.
- 3:33It has the one with an actual step.
- 3:35With an actual step and you have to sit down and.
- 3:39I'm heckling for sure. The other thing that I think
- 3:41that's actually going to happen is that you're not going to have
- 3:45one person, a load of people. Yeah, it's going to just be a
- 3:48bunch of people that aren't allowed to finish for a bit.
- 3:51They're all going to finish their race, shake hands in the
- 3:52box. Oh, well done.
- 3:53What did you want? This one?
- 3:55I don't think I think the whole thing was done for like dramatic
- 3:58effect. Or you can have one guy and it's
- 4:00going to be nail biting to see if the other person can finish
- 4:02their unbroken wobbles and actually get across the line
- 4:05before their time penalty's up. I do genuinely think it's just
- 4:07going to be a a bunch of races stood in this box going, oh
- 4:12nice. Great.
- 4:13Yeah. And then just walk.
- 4:14Over and then walk over the line, yeah.
- 4:15Yeah, I, I don't know, we'll see how it pays out, but I like that
- 4:18you can actually then see the like the physical representation
- 4:23of the penalty. Yeah, one more issue that I have
- 4:27with it is that at the High Rocks World Championships this
- 4:30year, and maybe this is just going to improve this season,
- 4:34when they did cross the line, they didn't know what the
- 4:37penalty was. Yeah.
- 4:39So like if I if if I finish in the elite race.
- 4:44So like if I finish and you tell me your penalty's 20 seconds, so
- 4:49I serve my 20 seconds, I then cross the line and I've served
- 4:52my penalty, and then you go, oh, wait, there was another one.
- 4:56I yeah, you might as well have just added the whole lot onto
- 4:58the. End.
- 4:59There needs to be more clarity, doesn't there?
- 5:00Yeah, and I think that needs to be more live data data.
- 5:04But the the tough thing that I have seen, people were
- 5:07commenting on the post and the release of this news, people
- 5:09were saying there should be a a naughty step at each station.
- 5:13Oh, that'd be cool. Because once you go, when you're
- 5:15where you are in your race, serve the penalty and I think
- 5:17that's good. That's more of like a sin bin
- 5:18situation rather than at the end of the race like it will
- 5:21compound and there you are, you're still.
- 5:22There. No, I really like that as well.
- 5:24That's much better. So I think that's, yeah, you
- 5:26should. Be as a spect hell as well.
- 5:27I think that's better to watch. Yeah.
- 5:29But talking about the the data, I'd love to see like live heart
- 5:33rate on the athletes. They must have some sponsor they
- 5:36can work with Wu Pola, someone who's doing heart rate data, and
- 5:39project it live so you can see where they're actually at.
- 5:41Well, interestingly, this was the counterpoint in the
- 5:44comments. I'm a professional comment
- 5:45reader. This is the Council counterpoint
- 5:49was that some athletes could figure out if they were blowing
- 5:54and they wanted to have a bit of a rest, they could.
- 5:58Get a. Penalty which actually helped
- 6:00them out in finishing a station, have a rest to get their heart
- 6:03rate down and then fuck off on the run.
- 6:05Just in case what the the time penalty was essentially quicker
- 6:09than how long it would take them to finish the station.
- 6:11Yeah. Like could the rest actually
- 6:12benefit them during the race? Which?
- 6:14No one's. Doing.
- 6:15I doubt, yeah. I don't think anyone's doing
- 6:17that. I don't know if you saw the
- 6:18real, I think it was Red Bull did with Lucy Proctor and they
- 6:22had her whole race and then they inputted her heart rate data for
- 6:26each of the stations and her running.
- 6:29And I thought that was really cool.
- 6:30Like it's just a clever thing and I don't know why they're not
- 6:32doing that on the professional scene.
- 6:33Like as of spectator sport, I'm probably the only person who
- 6:37wants to see that. But it would be interesting to
- 6:39see how the professionals are recovering and and approaching
- 6:42different stations. Well, it would also be
- 6:44interesting. So when the world champs
- 6:47happened for the men this year, Hunter McIntyre, who ended up
- 6:51finishing second, went unbroken on the warbles.
- 6:54But when he came in, Tim Venus, who won the whole thing, when he
- 6:58came in, he was on like 25 warbles or something.
- 7:01Hunter caught him up and he only finished two warbles ahead.
- 7:04But like it would have been so good to see Tim is redlining and
- 7:09Hunter's like quite calm and it would have just built that
- 7:11anticipation and knowing that Hunter's quite calm, maybe he is
- 7:15going to be going unbroken. It would have been a lot easier
- 7:17to predict that because lots of the times and fair place to the
- 7:20commentary guys and girls, you don't know what's going on, but
- 7:24they'll say, oh, he's done it before.
- 7:25He can go unbroken. Like that's the best you can
- 7:27give me. And then I immediately see them
- 7:28put the ball down whereas. See how I no idea how they're
- 7:31actually physically? He's he's at 150 BPL on his
- 7:34heart rate. I know he's chilling.
- 7:36So like I'm OK, cool. But then he's at 70 reps and
- 7:39it's like 175. I'm like, oh, can he keep it
- 7:41together? And to get.
- 7:42Yeah, it's a bit like watching Formula One.
- 7:44Like there's so, so many stats. Yeah.
- 7:47And like you just dive in and you're like, oh, he's George
- 7:51Russell's defending from Leclair.
- 7:53But I can see that George Russell's just rinsed his
- 7:55battery. So now I'm like, cool.
- 7:57Leclair, if he gets DRS should be able to get this position.
- 8:00It's like stuff that I wouldn't know if I was just watching the
- 8:01two of them, but like, I, I know.
- 8:04And so now I can enjoy. American sports seem to do it
- 8:07much better because American fans seem to love stats.
- 8:10But whenever I of the off chance watch the NFL, I'm just getting
- 8:14reeled with stats and I'm like, I don't know what half of this
- 8:17means. They're just like stats after
- 8:19stats after stats. I'm like, a lot of it's
- 8:21irrelevant, but it's just like having live data from a
- 8:24physiological standpoint of any athlete in any sport.
- 8:27I think that'd be sweet. Well, I imagine we always use
- 8:31this example, Rory, on his tiebreak shots on on the end of
- 8:36Augusta at the Masters this year.
- 8:38What was his heart rate doing? Or like a Wimbledon final.
- 8:42You're serving for the for the Wimbledon championship.
- 8:45What's your heart rate saying? Yeah, yeah.
- 8:47Like seeing the differences in that, it'll be really, really
- 8:49cool. Yeah, I like that.
- 8:50And on like a, a completely different if, if there was like
- 8:54a triathlon or something like that, you know how you can have
- 8:56sensors that check your like your perspiration knowing if
- 9:01like 1 athlete is like sweating way more than another athlete.
- 9:04And like that, like there's so many things you could go into
- 9:07though. Levels.
- 9:08Yeah, like. That's the feature.
- 9:10It would be really cool. And 100% I wasn't actually
- 9:14attempting to use it as a Segway because I mentioned F1.
- 9:17I went and saw the F1 film last night.
- 9:18Oh yeah. I know there have been mixed
- 9:21reviews but I really back it like.
- 9:24You're the first person I've heard said that.
- 9:26So I think if you're going and you're expecting a race about
- 9:30Formula One that's similar to like the style of Drive to
- 9:33Survive, but fiction, then yeah, you're probably going to be
- 9:36like. Disappointed.
- 9:37What the fuck was that? But if you know you're going for
- 9:39a film that is Formula One themed and you're going for a
- 9:42cool story, then yeah, it's great.
- 9:44And what I there's a couple of things that I want to pick up on
- 9:46here. And I know you haven't seen it,
- 9:48so I will say spoiler that, but I don't the way that I'm going
- 9:51to say this is not going to spoil the film for anyone.
- 9:54However, if you didn't know, the Formula One film was produced by
- 9:58Lewis Hamilton, which is actually a key, key feature.
- 10:00And watching it, there were very, very few errors in what
- 10:04they were talking about with the car.
- 10:06And it was those sorts of things.
- 10:07I imagine he had oversight as well as a lot of the other
- 10:09experts that were working on it. Yeah, there weren't many errors
- 10:13or people didn't really say the the wrong things very often.
- 10:17However, the obvious thing to me where Lewis had his touch on it,
- 10:23and again, this doesn't really give away what goes on with the
- 10:25film, but there is a point very early on to the film where there
- 10:30are two Formula One drivers racing at Silverstone and they
- 10:34are going down one of the main straights and they are wheel to
- 10:38wheel right alongside each other.
- 10:40And for those of you that watched a few seasons ago when
- 10:43Max and Lewis were next to each other and what happened on that
- 10:47corner, Max went flying into barriers because he didn't give
- 10:50Lewis enough room and Lewis basically tried to stay on the
- 10:52track. I'm on team Lewis, like you can
- 10:54probably tell by the way I'm saying it, but there was a
- 10:58racing incident between the two of them.
- 10:59It came off very badly for Max. This is basically how it's set
- 11:04up in the shop. And when they approach the
- 11:06corner and then I think even on the commentary, they're like, is
- 11:09he going to be able to keep, are they both going to be able to
- 11:11keep it on the track? That kind of thing.
- 11:13The camera angle switches and the driver who is on the outside
- 11:18who should be leaving space for the inside does such a
- 11:20deliberate move to make space so they can both go round it.
- 11:24And they both are fine. And I was like, there is no way
- 11:27that hasn't been put in there by Hamilton.
- 11:28So I was creasing at that and I actually said it to the person I
- 11:33was watching the film with was like, I think Lewis Hamilton's
- 11:35done that. And they were very much like,
- 11:36probably not, but it's nice that you think that.
- 11:39Then later on in the film, there is another scene where at Monza
- 11:45they're going into Turn 1 and it is actually Max Verstappen in
- 11:49the film against another driver and in the same season a couple
- 11:54of seasons ago, Lewis and Max 1 comes out of the pit lane and
- 11:58goes into this turn and. Is it the Max should?
- 12:02It was like the chicane. So Max in theory should have
- 12:05given up with the attempted overtake and didn't, and then
- 12:08end up on top of Lewis's car. In the film, Max concedes and
- 12:14they both make it round. But it was such a deliberate
- 12:17point again that that is what Max should have done and he
- 12:20would have been. Handed in the frame.
- 12:22And I'm watching this and I'm like, how many more of these
- 12:24little Easter eggs are going to be?
- 12:26So the F1 movie is littered with some Easter eggs that people
- 12:29don't know about. And those two, honestly, if
- 12:31you're a big fan of me creasing, if you know what you're looking
- 12:34at, like they are brilliant. But overall, like really enjoyed
- 12:37the film. There's definitely some cringe
- 12:38bits in there. There's some bits where I'm like
- 12:40great acting, but I was actually quite impressed and they've done
- 12:44a very, very good job of making it seem not only like the races
- 12:49actually happened because there were there was some filming that
- 12:52went on at Silverstone on the formation lap.
- 12:54I know where Brad Pitt actually drove around the formation lap,
- 12:58so they could have some footage of him around the other cars.
- 13:01But there's a lot of cameo stuff.
- 13:03It's really clever idea I think. But I was genuinely watching
- 13:06this and I was like, when did they film this?
- 13:08Is this all CGI or have they overlaid their car on another
- 13:13car from scenes in races? Because it's all genuinely very
- 13:15impressive. But the thing that's really cool
- 13:18is the way that it's filmed. For a lot of the film, you
- 13:21actually feel like you're in the car.
- 13:23That's awesome. Yeah, and you do get a bit
- 13:24immersed and there's a few accidents that happen in like a
- 13:27jumping. You're obviously not going to be
- 13:29like thrown back fully. Maybe if you're watching in an
- 13:31IMAX or like in a simulator type cinema you would.
- 13:34But there are some moments where you like really feel immersed
- 13:37and they've done a really cool job.
- 13:39So I, I would still recommend people go and watch it.
- 13:41I would go and see it again just for viewing experience.
- 13:43Like it was really cool. It's just very different to
- 13:46other films that are out there at the moment.
- 13:47So I. Think it makes a big difference,
- 13:48especially if you are an F1 fan, that it's been produced by a
- 13:52driver. Yeah, which I think is awesome.
- 13:54As well. This is the thing.
- 13:55And I just love Lewis. Hamilton I didn't.
- 13:57I didn't think when I first saw that Lewis Hamilton was
- 14:00producing the film, it was one of those where it was like, have
- 14:02they just slapped his name on it and like, what's he done?
- 14:05Watched it and gone thumbs up. But I think especially for those
- 14:09two things and the fact that I said there was a lot of
- 14:11opportunity for actors that don't really know what they're
- 14:13talking about to just say something.
- 14:15Sure. There was a lot where it was
- 14:18like, OK, they've actually clearly been, they've had this
- 14:21whole scenario explained to them before they've acted the scene,
- 14:23so they know how to sound when they're talking about it.
- 14:26Because there was little, little things where they're talking
- 14:28about like drag and certain things that are quite important
- 14:31in Formula One. And it was like, I don't feel
- 14:33like I'm listening to an actor that doesn't understand what
- 14:35they're saying. Maybe that was just them doing a
- 14:37very good job of acting. But at the same time, it kind of
- 14:39all might sound some yeah, input.
- 14:41And I think they did a really, really good job.
- 14:42I saw, I think I saw in the lead up to it being released, there
- 14:45was an interview with Lewis. He was talking about working
- 14:48with Brad Pitt and he was like almost starstruck that he got to
- 14:51work with Brad Pitt. And I'm like, you're Lewis
- 14:54Hamilton. I know.
- 14:55Yeah, Surely, Brad. Pitt is looking at you going
- 14:57like, that's Lewis Hamilton. I if I were Brad Pitt, I'd be
- 15:00like, I'm about to be the main character in a film which is all
- 15:05of Lewis Hamilton's domain. Like I do not want to pick up.
- 15:09But for Lewis, how much are you looking at like?
- 15:11Oh my God. Oh my God, Brad Pitt in a film
- 15:13is so funny. But yeah, he's he.
- 15:15We love Lewis Hamilton. Yeah, and, and to be fair, Brad
- 15:18Pitt plays another character the very much same way that Brad
- 15:23Pitt does, the kind of mysterious, now slightly aged,
- 15:27aesthetically pleasing man. There's a lot of women in the
- 15:29cinema that were very much enjoying the film as well.
- 15:32But yeah, he does a pretty good job.
- 15:34And like I said, there's a few other acting and some cameo
- 15:37roles that are quite cringy at times.
- 15:39But like if you can look past that, because the Formula One
- 15:42drivers are definitely not actors.
- 15:44Yeah, then it can't be as bad as Happy Gilmore 2.
- 15:47I don't know if you've watched that.
- 15:48I literally watched that on the weekend.
- 15:49What a terrible film. Yeah, it was quite hard watch.
- 15:52Terrible. Yeah.
- 15:53I was really excited because they've obviously filmed it
- 15:55alongside the actual regular season when they have the of the
- 15:58lot of the pros so. Bad.
- 16:00Yeah, really. And like the pros didn't help
- 16:02one thing. Actually, this is a good point
- 16:04and I don't want to go too far into this, but there was a bit
- 16:07where they had all the pros in the room, right?
- 16:10And they were going along and they were rinsing each pro for
- 16:13something they'd done. And I was so excited for them to
- 16:15get to Rory. And they didn't.
- 16:18They like he was sat there and I was like, I cannot wait.
- 16:20You're going to bring up the masters, They're going to go in
- 16:23on him. You just piss away.
- 16:24You just piss it away on the last day, Rory.
- 16:26I was so waiting for that and I was going to love it.
- 16:28And they didn't do it. You were too scared, I wouldn't
- 16:31waste your time. No, yeah, don't watch Happy you
- 16:33don't want to, but do go and watch the Formula One movie.
- 16:36What else have we had going on? Well, two things I've done.
- 16:41Lots of running volume. Radically you have.
- 16:43And you've got fast. Well, it's all relative I guess,
- 16:47but you did a an off the cuff ultra, Yeah, which you get very
- 16:51quiet. Yeah, well, I kept quiet because
- 16:53I didn't know I was doing it. So about a month and a bit ago,
- 16:57you sent me a link to represent Team 247.
- 17:00We're hosting an event which was the first ultra of it's kind,
- 17:03similar to a Backyard ultra, 12 hours long, though every hour on
- 17:08the hour you run 5.1 kilometers in the trails and then in the
- 17:11remaining time you are put with the team by the way, but you
- 17:14work on a skier to get Max distance.
- 17:17Such a good idea. Which is on the face of it, we
- 17:19were like, OK, so if you're good at ski and you can survive the
- 17:22run, you'll do well. You'll do well, but it was a bit
- 17:26like high rocks in a way where people are still trying to
- 17:28figure out the best way to train for it, the best way to
- 17:30strategically attack it. No one went in knowing what to
- 17:33do and it was a very, very interesting day.
- 17:36I had gone in preparation wise. I think in the previous 30 days
- 17:41before I'd run like a total of about 15 K.
- 17:43It's not ideal is. It and 12 of those who are with
- 17:45you in Majorca. So it wasn't ideal, but it was
- 17:49one of those rounds. Something I'd recommend.
- 17:52No, and I can say kind of a couple of weeks on, I wouldn't
- 17:56recommend, but we'll get to that.
- 17:59So I did it and I, I knew competitively I was going to run
- 18:01every single. You didn't have to by the way,
- 18:03because you're in teams of five. You had to have two runners.
- 18:06You scored points for the number of people that ran in the
- 18:08distance and you scored points also for the ski out distance.
- 18:10So it was in your best interest to have everybody run if they
- 18:12could. But if someone was struggling or
- 18:14slowing you down too much, then there was no point in them
- 18:16running. They should just rest.
- 18:17And if everyone, if you run every time you accumulated 60K,
- 18:20right? Yeah, exactly.
- 18:21So it that that's tough. The interesting thing about it
- 18:25though, was that I once again had issues fuelling.
- 18:28I've always known that I don't have an appetite when I'm doing
- 18:31these sorts of things, but I really, really struggled.
- 18:35However, those that didn't struggle actually seem to have a
- 18:39worse time for the middle portion of the race because
- 18:42there were lots of people. Charlie Bottle, previous guest
- 18:44well known in High Rock space, was there running mad cays like
- 18:48mad times at the At the start, everyone was running for their.
- 18:51Guys built different. So there was also Elite 15 Sean.
- 18:58Why is this surname gone out of my head?
- 19:01Look at me. I'm useless.
- 19:03Sean Short. Big Sean.
- 19:05Big Sean from Ireland, yeah, yeah, he was there and he went
- 19:09off and he was on pace to run the 1st 5.1 K trail loop in 16
- 19:13minutes. His name is going to come to me.
- 19:14Yeah, that's really nice, Sean, really sorry.
- 19:17Big fan, big fan. But he went off and he was
- 19:20running those laps at that same pace pretty much for the 1st 4
- 19:24laps and then he got injured. We'll also come back to that.
- 19:26But people were doing that and then refueling quite a lot of
- 19:29shoving cakes in. There were loads of pastries
- 19:31there. People were getting that down.
- 19:33I was a bit like, oh fuck, like I'm going to really struggle.
- 19:35I'm just going to have to accept that I'm going to hit a hole.
- 19:38But what happened was normally in a backyard ultra.
- 19:41The remaining time you have in the hour, you can stop, put your
- 19:43feet up, have a bit of an appetite, refuel, go again.
- 19:46In this scenario, you're getting on the ski Ugg and you're
- 19:48ripping it. If you put food in and then go
- 19:51and RIP it on a ski, Ugg it wants to come back up.
- 19:54Yeah, you'll see it again. And so a lot of the time people
- 19:57were either really feeling quite sick and therefore losing their
- 20:00appetite quite a lot or feeling terrible on the run following.
- 20:05And then the other thing that was going on was a few hours
- 20:07into doing this repetitively, not seeing any signs of any
- 20:10issues, people starting to get stomach cramps.
- 20:12And so there was there was quite a few people, Charlie actually
- 20:15being included, who went off really hot and were doing mad
- 20:19paces on the ski, mad paces, mad paces on the run.
- 20:22And then between hour like 5 and well, between hour 3 for some
- 20:27people up to like hour 8 just were unable to function.
- 20:31And then they started to get a second win later on in the day
- 20:34when they kind of figured themselves out.
- 20:36But it was really interesting. I basically just stayed as a
- 20:39kind of solid the whole time. Yes.
- 20:41I didn't consume anywhere near enough, but I got through the
- 20:44day and it was all good. Managed to hold the paces that I
- 20:46really wanted to on the Ski Egg. And then running wise, I did
- 20:50like two or three laps where I pushed it, but I could only ever
- 20:53get it down to like 21 minutes. I think it was my fastest lap.
- 20:56And then the next fastest lap was 23 and the next fastest lap
- 21:00was like another 23. But each time those hurt me so
- 21:04much physically. That wasn't worth it.
- 21:07That it yeah, it wasn't really worth it because all I was doing
- 21:09I was beating my next teammate in by like 3 or 4 minutes and
- 21:13that was the tough thing as well.
- 21:14It obviously if you're first back, you're first onto the ski
- 21:16erg, which means you've got like you have an arrest.
- 21:19So some teams decided to arrest someone because then someone
- 21:23could send the run, get and then as soon as they get back, the
- 21:26other teammate who's been resting can just get on the ski
- 21:27erg and let I'm. Assuming the top three teams.
- 21:30All run every all run every time.
- 21:33And all three of them had someone pretty much every time
- 21:36that was running a sub 195K as mental every lap it was.
- 21:41This. The thing that the thing was mad
- 21:43was that it was a really cool environment to be in because
- 21:46everyone, I would say everyone there was extremely fit and then
- 21:50there was a cut above and that's quite humbling because it was,
- 21:54it wasn't just a mentality. Everyone had a relatively good
- 21:57mentality to be there, but there was a physical difference.
- 22:02There was there was some freaks there.
- 22:05So yeah, it was quite cool to see that in person.
- 22:07And we did all right as a team. I don't think we were expecting
- 22:10to do too much, but the the ending was mad.
- 22:14So you basically got a point for every 250 meters on the ski.
- 22:17And the winning two, well, the top two teams were separated by
- 22:19two points, of course. 12 hours. So you got five points per
- 22:23person run, but because they all ran there was no difference on
- 22:26the running score and so it came down to 500 meters across. 12
- 22:29hours of skier game. That is crazy, Yeah, to have it
- 22:32that close. It was a really, really good
- 22:34event. At the time I didn't really soak
- 22:35that in enough because I was too busy trying to.
- 22:37Survive. It's like too fun.
- 22:38Yeah. And then as I said, we'd come
- 22:40back to it. Sean got injured on the 4th lap.
- 22:44I think he turned his ankle. This was a bit interesting.
- 22:46So he was on Team Whoop, who I don't think came in the top,
- 22:50then maybe they came second or they didn't come in the top
- 22:52three. No, they weren't.
- 22:53Second, because that was Roxfit. No.
- 22:55No, Roxfit came third. So they either came second or
- 22:58they came fourth. I can't remember, but they tried
- 23:00to get a substitute for Sean. They were they were saying,
- 23:03look, this is unfair, he's got injured, we're now run it down.
- 23:06And they are like a few people were asking around the team like
- 23:08do we think this is fair? And I was like, absolutely not.
- 23:11I could have gone off and run 16 games and I pulled my hamstring
- 23:13straight away and then I'm out. My, my.
- 23:15There's no way that my team would be allowed a replacement
- 23:17just because someone in your team did it and they've got a
- 23:19bit of a kind of reputation for being a good athlete.
- 23:22No way do you get a replacement. So he had to unfortunately just
- 23:25stay on the ski and rest every run, which did harm them quite
- 23:28quickly, but they would let. Them still come forth.
- 23:33Oh, like. Or like close to the top then
- 23:35they've managed to do. Something, I mean, that's the
- 23:37thing, they they would get back and he'd jump on the ski and
- 23:39hold like 130 per 500 meters for however long.
- 23:43So he wasn't useless, but he just obviously wasn't able to
- 23:45put in what he wanted to. And then for me, I after doing
- 23:5060 K plus whatever I was walking around and the skier goes like
- 23:532425 K the end of the day I didn't.
- 23:58I went back that day still very able to walk around.
- 24:01The next day I felt great. Next day genuinely felt fine.
- 24:04I didn't sleep great, but I felt fine.
- 24:07And then I did the thing because I know it's been someone's
- 24:09growing my gears in the past about going straight back in
- 24:11training. So I like eased myself back in,
- 24:13tried to take it really easy. And a week on I was like, cool,
- 24:15I'm going to reintroduce myself into some speed work.
- 24:18And then I did something to my back in the gym doing a preach
- 24:22curl of all things. And then that basically hasn't
- 24:25left me to the point where even today is the best day that it's
- 24:28felt. But like, I still can't really
- 24:29turn my head very easily so I think I just had a very delayed
- 24:32reaction to surprising my body with a horrible event.
- 24:35Yeah, I think there was a lot of Skiog to get through.
- 24:38Yeah, but you didn't really notice that because you
- 24:40obviously weren't. I mean, in our team it.
- 24:42Wasn't more Yeah, you're more concerned about the run.
- 24:45Yeah. So in our team, we were like
- 24:47Skiog wasn't necessarily everyone's strength.
- 24:49So we knew that like people were going to push it as hard as they
- 24:51could, but it wasn't going to be like you're trying to break the
- 24:53Skiog. Whereas in other teams there was
- 24:55a lot of that going on, which meant that they were rotating
- 24:59every 30 seconds for the whole day.
- 25:01We were very much, I was very much doing like I'll do 1K at a
- 25:04time and try and bring the average down a bit.
- 25:07But then I can also leave and put my legs up because I think
- 25:10only two of us in our team ran every lap.
- 25:12OK, fine. So I needed to go and get my
- 25:14rest with my legs and I was like the best way I can do that is
- 25:16bring our ski average down as much as I can in a block and
- 25:20then go off and rest for than me just come on every 250 meters
- 25:24and not getting any rest. But it was a really good event.
- 25:27I think I, I the tactics behind it is what makes that event so
- 25:30interesting. And you've never seen an ultra
- 25:33event like that. But yeah, the the combination of
- 25:36the, the machine and the running, the running being in
- 25:39trails, it being a team of five, it being every hour on the hour
- 25:41for 12, like they'd really thought, fought really hard
- 25:45about making it a tactical event as much as possible.
- 25:48So I do want to say also, I was invited by Saskia.
- 25:51So Saskia, if you're listening to this, thank you very much.
- 25:53I really appreciated that. Also got the chance for those of
- 25:55you that know that I do camera stuff for a living, I took my
- 25:57camera up so I got some cool stuff while I was there.
- 26:00I think next year I'd love to go back to film it.
- 26:03I, I think I would get there and I would have massive FOMO, but I
- 26:07don't think I would want to do it next year.
- 26:09Not because of how much it hurt or anything like that, but I
- 26:13think next year the athletes that turn up.
- 26:16Will be another. Will be a different level, it'll
- 26:18be it will be ultra marathoners and people with a ski like a
- 26:22Nordic ski background because I just think like the level this
- 26:25year was was very good. But even in the winning teams,
- 26:28the first ever time. They've done it.
- 26:30Exactly. I think there there will be far
- 26:32more strategy next year and there will be a totally
- 26:34different type of endurance athlete there.
- 26:36Most of the people there were the people that I see at High
- 26:38Rocks events. There wasn't anyone that was
- 26:40like an out and out. Well, there wasn't a full team
- 26:42of out and out endurance runners or ultra runners or.
- 26:45Unless they change the format next year.
- 26:48Oh. It doesn't necessarily have to
- 26:50be set in stone. That would be.
- 26:52Interesting. That would be cool.
- 26:53But yeah, really good event. Now you're going to tell me why
- 26:55you're getting so fast. I don't really have an answer.
- 26:59I was, I was originally training for High Rocks.
- 27:04Obviously with the seasons fast approaching, which has come like
- 27:07very quickly and we had, well, I had a couple of races booked in
- 27:11towards the back end of September.
- 27:13I had a solo ticket and a double ticket.
- 27:16I've now got rid of my solo ticket.
- 27:18So I've just I've just got a double ticket for Rome and then
- 27:21I've got pro solos, Prolos, Prolos.
- 27:26Wow, Prolos. Yeah, yeah, it's become that in
- 27:28London in December. So my, my big aim was just do
- 27:32that basically. And I wanted to test the 10K.
- 27:37So I've actually got a 10K race coming up at the end of August.
- 27:41Wait, this month, this month, it's the last day of August and
- 27:45everyone is getting involved with the shortage 10 Ki think
- 27:49that's a soccer knee event shortage 10K that was too close
- 27:53to Rome. So as I was cycling to work a
- 27:56couple of weeks ago, I saw a poster for the well known
- 28:00Woolwich 10K. Oh, yeah, Yeah, you know that
- 28:02one. Yeah.
- 28:02Woolwich. Yeah, the Woolwich 10K.
- 28:05So you know the you book your tickets through like an events
- 28:10page called Let's Do It. And when you go on to the
- 28:12Shoreditch 10K, it shows you all of these people who have signed
- 28:16up to do this race. There's like thousands and
- 28:17thousands of people. I went on the Woolwich page,
- 28:20it's like 32 people and I bet they're all amazing.
- 28:25It's going. To be like RAM running a sub
- 28:283310K isn't. It so we'll see how we go, but
- 28:32hopefully pipeline there's going to be a bit of triathlon coming
- 28:35up to discuss. Well, I mean, you've been doing
- 28:38the training for it. Your your Instagram story is
- 28:40just covered in Strava, maps and different things.
- 28:44I'm that guy now. Yeah, given getting all the
- 28:46kudok, I actually need to give you more.
- 28:48You should be giving me more kudok.
- 28:49I'm so sorry. I put so much effort into my
- 28:51Strava as well for such little return.
- 28:54I've actually stopped using Instagram.
- 28:55I just use Strava. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:57And then the straw, the Instagram is just a direct.
- 29:00Share to Instagram. Well, one other thing to
- 29:05mention. You mentioned that the hierarchy
- 29:08season's coming around very quickly.
- 29:10We did a little thing last weekend.
- 29:14It was pretty cool. You going to explain it?
- 29:17Yeah, we did a hierarchy simulation.
- 29:19Well, we hosted 1. So at Unit 9 Elms in London, we
- 29:24decided to do a premium hierarchy SIM because most of
- 29:28The Sims that I know of don't have sleds and aren't able to do
- 29:334 kilometer runs. Which is, yeah, which is
- 29:35something that is like, I then feel like every SIM you go to,
- 29:41especially in London, is like a good workout.
- 29:45But like, how do you know where you're at?
- 29:46It's not necessarily a good representation, is it?
- 29:48No, like I can't go and do that workout and know how I'm going
- 29:52to do on the race day or even have a really good understanding
- 29:54of where I'm at. There's some things you can take
- 29:56away from it. Maybe the the length of SIM is
- 29:59similar duration to the actual event that you're going to be
- 30:02racing. But if you're not getting the
- 30:04exposure and the stimulus of pulling and pushing a sled,
- 30:07because that's the bottleneck for most simulations and, and
- 30:11gyms try and do their best around equipment with bikes or
- 30:15box step UPS or whatever treadmills turned off.
- 30:18So you're pushing the belt rather than actually getting the
- 30:20the help from the treadmill. It's just not the same stimulus.
- 30:24So like you said, it was something that we wanted to be
- 30:27able to offer and fortunately the, the team at unit were
- 30:31really helpful and, and let us use the space.
- 30:33So kind of a collaborative event between unit yourself and then
- 30:37the team at Rockst and we did like a trial SIM over the
- 30:40weekend, which was like a a huge success.
- 30:43Hugely. Like, I was so ready for things
- 30:45to go wrong. Oh yeah, and the other thing.
- 30:48Was yeah, I was having bad anxiety that.
- 30:49Week, yeah, I think I, I was in charge of timings and that was a
- 30:53bit of a that was stressful and I kind of decided what I think
- 30:56would be safe and turned out, I think that is the magic number.
- 30:59Yeah, I'm glad you were in charge of that.
- 31:00But we. Well, I didn't tell you, but I
- 31:04had to play around with a couple of people shortening the gap and
- 31:07lengthening the gap to kind of see where that sweet spot was.
- 31:11And when I shortened the gap was when you came over and you
- 31:16looked at me because the person. So basically for context, there
- 31:20is one of each sled. So we had to set people off to
- 31:23make sure they didn't crossover. But after the sleds, there was
- 31:25plenty of room for people to be able to overtake each other.
- 31:27We just had to set the timings right so that people didn't
- 31:29catch each other before the sled.
- 31:32On this short interval between two people that I set off, one
- 31:37of them let go of the rope as the other one came into the gym.
- 31:41It was, it was tight. And like as much as that you
- 31:43could say was perfect timing, it was a little bit worrying.
- 31:47And we'd rather have a bit of a buffer because both of those
- 31:50people are quite experienced as well.
- 31:51So if we actually had one of them was less experienced and
- 31:53the other one chasing was more experienced, that would have
- 31:56been a nasty crossover. So yeah.
- 31:59But in the same vein as we want to be offering the best
- 32:02possible, we don't want to be in a situation where we compromise
- 32:05someone's time because they're getting stuck on the station as
- 32:09they're waiting for equipment. So for us, it was about
- 32:12delivering a product that everyone could come away from
- 32:14being like, hey, those guys really did a good job for us.
- 32:17And, and now we've benchmarked the beginning of our season with
- 32:20an actual representation of of our high rocks time.
- 32:23And the run route was slightly longer each time because there
- 32:28was no rock zone in in the actual facility.
- 32:30Like we slash, you had thought of basically everything and
- 32:34every scenario. And it goes to show that with a
- 32:37bit of planning you can make a space which isn't crazy big.
- 32:42You know it can fit however many people we had down for a
- 32:44simulation over the course of Sunday morning.
- 32:47Sunday, yeah, Sunday. I mean, we, we, I think we got
- 32:50through 25 different waves where we're setting one, one person or
- 32:55one team off at a time. 25 different waves in Yeah, about
- 32:59two and 2 1/2 hours. And the majority of those were
- 33:02double s, weren't they? Yeah, we had.
- 33:04We had a lot of double s and that was also quite successful
- 33:06in that a lot of people hadn't done a hierarch before, but
- 33:08we're able to do it as a double and really be able to figure out
- 33:12what their racing was like, get a feel for it.
- 33:14And I think that's the big thing.
- 33:15A lot of people that I know that haven't done a higher ox before
- 33:18they go, I don't think I'm fit enough to do 1.
- 33:20And it's like, well you are because you know you've done the
- 33:24basic enough training. I do believe that 98% of people
- 33:27can finish a higher ox. It's just the time that you get,
- 33:30and I think that is quite concerning for some people is
- 33:32that they might not want to pay £120 to do a slow time but you
- 33:38don't know what you're going to do until you do 1.
- 33:40So like there is also that platform there and we had
- 33:43someone who did their first ever High Rocks solo on the day and
- 33:48he said to me, I'm coming out from Manchester this morning,
- 33:52I'm really not going to be in the best shape but I'll give it
- 33:54a crack. I will come.
- 33:56But expect me to do like an hour and 45.
- 33:58He did it in an hour and 30 and he was so happy.
- 34:01If he'd done that in his first ever actual high rock solo, he'd
- 34:04be delighted. And I was like, well, you're
- 34:05already there. And we were looking at the times
- 34:08that people were clocking and they were directly comparable,
- 34:10which meant that we did a good job of the distance, the rock
- 34:12zone included in the run and that sort of thing.
- 34:15So we have proven the point of that.
- 34:17This is a serious SIM, It's a premium SIM because we are
- 34:22setting you off and you can run your own race.
- 34:23You're not going to get beaten up, elbows out, that kind of
- 34:27thing. But if you basically want to
- 34:29come along, understand where your fitness is directly
- 34:31comparable to a race, then we've built that for you.
- 34:34And it's in central London so it's easy to get to.
- 34:36It's like 5 minutes walk from Vauxhall Station which is great.
- 34:40So I think it's fair to say we are interested in doing more of
- 34:43them. So if you're listening to this
- 34:45and you are interested in doing one of those, we also have some,
- 34:48I've got some fun ideas for things that we can tag onto the
- 34:51end of the day, different types of racing perhaps.
- 34:54Then keep an eye out because we will be posting more information
- 34:57I will be putting onto the podcast page as well.
- 34:59And I think like a big thing from the rocks perspective,
- 35:02we're obviously offering training.
- 35:04And the majority of the training that we're doing is specific to
- 35:07high rocks is being able to tie in your basically like a
- 35:11benchmark from how you perform in the SIM with looking at areas
- 35:15of weakness and where you can improve upon and using the
- 35:19season schedule to basically work backwards from and go.
- 35:23This is when you should be doing your simulation.
- 35:26This is X amount of time before you race.
- 35:28This is how you can capitalize on the data that you've taken
- 35:31from the SIM to make your time and performance better.
- 35:34Yeah, so it does all tie in very, very well.
- 35:36So yeah, like I said, if you're interesting being coached by the
- 35:39ROCS team or you actually do want to get a benchmark for your
- 35:41own training, maybe your coach sent you because they want you
- 35:45to do a race, but you don't want to travel to Rome or pay however
- 35:48much money to race, then this is a really good alternative.
- 35:51So we would very much love to see you down there.
- 35:54Now there's one thing that I'm I need you to talk about before we
- 35:59get into grind my gears because this is like the opposite of a
- 36:02grind my gears. This is a recommendation.
- 36:04Oh, oh, completely forgotten. Yeah, Charles has also not just
- 36:08been getting quick, he's been reading.
- 36:11Hey, some people have it all. So yeah, actually I was, I was
- 36:16clearing out my, I was going to say my library.
- 36:21OK, in my tiny flat, I've been clearing out my bookshelf
- 36:24because I've got too many books at this point.
- 36:26And I stumbled across this book, which I'll talk about in a
- 36:30second on YouTube. You can already see what I'm
- 36:31holding, but it's a book called Bounce by Matthew Syed.
- 36:36And it's, it actually means quite a lot to me because I
- 36:38think this was one of the first books that I read that I
- 36:41actually enjoyed. And I think it was like a
- 36:45desperate attempt of my parents to try and get me to read when I
- 36:48was a bit younger because I I legit did no reading.
- 36:51So I must have read this the first time in my mid teens when
- 36:55I was still at school. But essentially it's a good
- 36:58gateway book into kind of performance and it debunks the
- 37:03myth around you have to be talented to be good at
- 37:05something, which I really resonated at the time.
- 37:09But we talk a lot about that on the podcast, whether it's
- 37:12performance, Physiology, Physiology or psychology.
- 37:17And we reference probably one of two books, either Endure by Alex
- 37:21Hutchinson or, you know, and now A Sports Gene by David Epstein.
- 37:25So this will be the 4th book that we can add on to the list.
- 37:28But this one, I actually reread it last week when I found it,
- 37:32which goes to show that it's like it's super digestible.
- 37:35Matthew Side, he wrote wrote it is a well renowned columnist for
- 37:39sports magazines. I think he writes for The Times
- 37:41a little bit about sport. But yeah, it's kind of the the
- 37:45battle between nature and nurture.
- 37:48But yeah, I found it and I was like, I need to share this with
- 37:50someone. And rather than me talking about
- 37:52endure the whole time on the podcast, why not go out and read
- 37:55Bounce, which ironically has exactly the same colours on the
- 37:58cover? I.
- 37:59Was going to say yeah. It looks very similar.
- 38:00When you pulled out, I was like, is that the exact same or the
- 38:03exact same theories? Exact same publisher.
- 38:04It's actually the same book, but yeah, I can I can recommend this
- 38:08more in a book that kind of set me down the path of actually
- 38:12being interested in sport performance and and coaching.
- 38:16I think it now, looking back at it, it must have been
- 38:18subconscious at the time, but looking back at it now, that
- 38:21might be the reason why I'm I'm still a a coach.
- 38:24Oh really? So that's that's my book
- 38:25recommendation. Well, there you go.
- 38:27Especially if people who are interested in maybe becoming a
- 38:30coach, but also like understanding more about why
- 38:33they're being coached something. I think that's something that I
- 38:35find really important. It's like I don't like doing
- 38:37something else, I understand why.
- 38:39And so if you can think more like a coach, then you might be
- 38:41able to understand that without having to pest them to explain.
- 38:44My my my. Also my favorite thing I'll say
- 38:46about the book is it like similar to Injure?
- 38:48It uses real life examples of sportsmen and women.
- 38:53And those examples, they're always fascinating when you,
- 38:55like, depict them. And I think that's a word.
- 38:59Sure. Depict them.
- 39:01No, no. No sound like depict Dick pic.
- 39:06That's terrible. You always, always have to bring
- 39:09down the tone, don't you? I was we were having a really
- 39:12adult competition books then wow and.
- 39:14Now I wanted to say, oh, I really resonate with that, but
- 39:18maybe I do, maybe I don't. But yeah, I definitely recommend
- 39:20reading this. Cool.
- 39:21Well there we go. That was the adult bit done.
- 39:23Now we can be the angry adults because we're back to the fan
- 39:27favorite Crime My Gears section of the podcast.
- 39:32What has been pissing you off? I look forward to this.
- 39:36I will actually say you guys again, you have the option to
- 39:40write in. I think it's been quiet recently
- 39:43and genuinely I think it's because people have gone on
- 39:46holiday and let some steam off. Yeah, but like, people haven't
- 39:49been getting that annoyed about things.
- 39:50I've been feeling quite mellow recently, as really, Yeah, I've
- 39:52had to. I've actually had to scroll back
- 39:54through my Cry my Gears list so when I was more angry.
- 40:01But can I start with a really niche one?
- 40:04Yes. I really get annoyed when people
- 40:08call an Echo bike an assault bike.
- 40:12Or an assault bike, an echo bike.
- 40:15And it's so irrational, but it really frustrates me.
- 40:18And one time I remember it so vividly, it riles me up.
- 40:23Even now. I was coaching.
- 40:25I think it was a high risk class.
- 40:26It could have been a CFE on name, no names, but someone
- 40:30didn't want to run for whatever reason, maybe they were injured.
- 40:33I was like, just hop on the echo bike and they were like looking
- 40:36around like, oh, the assault bike.
- 40:37I was like, no, no, the Echo bike and they walked over like,
- 40:42oh, the assault bike. I was like, we're about to fight
- 40:44now. I.
- 40:45Felt like it was probably me. It definitely was.
- 40:48What is? What is the difference then for
- 40:51those that are on a? Well, so there's there's a few
- 40:54like actual differences around the machinery and how they
- 40:57function, but the main difference is the Echo bike is
- 41:00made by Rogue, the company Rogue.
- 41:03Assault Bike is made by Assault Fitness, so they're made by
- 41:06different brands. They look very similar and they
- 41:08function in a very similar way. This is terrible.
- 41:11It's so nerdy. The Echo bike is powered by a
- 41:15big rubber band, hence why when you go on it, it sounds really
- 41:18quiet. It's like a big fan when you
- 41:20jump on an Assault bike and there's lots of other different
- 41:23brands of similar bike, but the Assault Bike is the the most
- 41:26popular one probably. It's chain operated, so like a
- 41:29push bike, so it sounds a lot louder and as a result you can
- 41:33actually get a bit more purchase on it.
- 41:35The Echo bikes are more popular now because they're far more
- 41:37sturdy, so they last longer. So if you're a gym owner, you
- 41:41only have to buy it once and the longevity is much better than
- 41:44the assault bikes, which traditionally just break all the
- 41:47time. But it's either an Echo bike or
- 41:49an. So performance wise there's not
- 41:51much difference apart from the fact that you can get a bit more
- 41:53out of a chain than a doubt. Yeah, maybe.
- 41:57I think the Echo bike is actually harder because the fan
- 42:01is larger so you create more resistance or there's more air
- 42:05resistance when you're trying to push and pull with your arms and
- 42:07spin your legs. I I do find the assault bike
- 42:11easier and easier to get more out of, but that's because I'm
- 42:15just small. Bigger people are fine on
- 42:17either. This might piss you off more.
- 42:20No, that is a niche. But I want to know if this
- 42:22pisses you off more. What if someone was like the fan
- 42:24bike because people call them fan bikes?
- 42:28So the reason why people call them fan bikes is to encompass
- 42:32whatever bike you have access to.
- 42:34So I much prefer someone saying I jump on the fan bike, yeah,
- 42:37because then they're demonstrating the knowledge and
- 42:40understanding to go, well, actually, I don't know which one
- 42:43it is. It's a fan bike, but lots of
- 42:45programming that you receive, whether whoever's programming
- 42:48will go jump on the fan bike because they don't know what you
- 42:51have access to. Fan bike's just not as cool as a
- 42:53source or echo. Sometimes I'll write it in my
- 42:55programming to my clients because I don't know which bike
- 42:58they have access to any gym. Fair enough that is niche but I
- 43:02mean find grind it grinds your. Gear, I feel much better now
- 43:05because we've talked about. It my one and this I wrote down
- 43:08a little while ago is I, I tell me if I've said this before,
- 43:14fracture and breaking a bone. Oh no, you haven't.
- 43:19OK, so people say, oh, I broke my bone, and then people will
- 43:25also say I fractured my bone. That's the same fucking thing.
- 43:29Yeah. And so many people go, no, no,
- 43:32no. A fracture isn't as serious as a
- 43:34break. A break means it broke.
- 43:37A fracture is just like a crack. Nope, it's the same fucking
- 43:40thing. Look it up.
- 43:42It pissed me off as a kid that broke a lot of bones around the
- 43:46time he was like 1516. I'd come back from the hospital
- 43:48and people would be like, oh, is it broken?
- 43:50I'd be like, yeah, it's fractured.
- 43:51And they'd be like, oh, at least it's not broken.
- 43:53Like I'm in a fucking cast. My arm is in two.
- 43:57It's the same thing. It's the same thing.
- 43:59Yeah, that, that. But I'm sure there's like
- 44:02there's levels of severity. Yeah, like you have terms.
- 44:06So when I first broke my wrist, it was a green stick fracture,
- 44:09which means it's a crack part way through a particular bone.
- 44:12But like. But it's not the the bone is
- 44:14like snapped in half. Exactly.
- 44:17But like if it had, they'd just said it's a fracture.
- 44:21You're not a green stick fracture.
- 44:22But like, technically if I have a skateboard and I stamp on it
- 44:27in the middle and it's cracked, the skateboard is broken, yes,
- 44:31but it's actually cracked. It's not snapped.
- 44:34So like, yeah, it's they're all breaks.
- 44:36A different word for the same thing.
- 44:38Exactly. Yeah, that annoyed.
- 44:40That's a good one. Yeah, that's a good one.
- 44:42I'm a bit nervous about my next one.
- 44:44Oh, God, there's when I, when I go through these, there's so
- 44:50many that just that shouldn't be, shouldn't be said out loud.
- 44:53And so this is a popular 1, and I don't know if it's now because
- 44:57I've started doing more triathlon training and I'm
- 44:59seeing more of it on social media, but I see lots of people
- 45:02if they don't have access to an indoor trainer, like a turbo
- 45:06trainer, they'll go to the gym to do their indoor cycles.
- 45:11Whatever, I get it. Maybe it's better for time.
- 45:13I don't want to ride their bike outside, but they wear full
- 45:16Lycra now. I'm trying to think of a
- 45:21comparison but it's a little bit like wearing full kit to play 5A
- 45:26side. Do you know what I mean?
- 45:27I've I saw a comparison but I can tie right into this.
- 45:30There is a guy called cricket dad I think on Instagram.
- 45:35Stumbled across him on my like as I was doing scrolling the
- 45:37other day. He wears full cricket kit to
- 45:40play on AVR set. Oh, nice.
- 45:43But like, that's the same. Yeah, that's the same.
- 45:45And if you're if you're feeling attacked because you were full
- 45:48lycra on a bike in the gym. This is just a polite a polite a
- 45:52polite reminder that you don't need to wear your jersey bib
- 45:55shorts complete although. Bib shorts and nothing else in a
- 45:59public gym? Not fine.
- 46:01I'm put the nipples away. I'm assuming that if you're
- 46:04going to be wearing the bib shorts, you're not allowed in a
- 46:08public gym to take your T-shirt off.
- 46:11Yeah, you shouldn't be. So imagine people will.
- 46:13Yeah, but OK, so I I'm sure the etiquette then, if you're riding
- 46:19indoors with bib shorts on, remove the shoulder straps.
- 46:23Just have them round. Yeah, have them hang them put AT
- 46:25shirt on. Yeah, yeah, but you don't need
- 46:27the jersey. I have another one that is gym
- 46:31related or gym related, generally running related.
- 46:35People like to do this a lot when they're talking about
- 46:36treadmill running. OK, people put up the paces they
- 46:41do for their intervals or their temper runs or whatever, but
- 46:44when they put it up they'll say like 2 kilometers warm up. 1K at
- 46:515 minute pace pace is not needed.
- 46:56This is like this has actually been pissing me off quite a lot.
- 46:58So people will be like, I did it at 5 minute pace.
- 47:01I'm scared you've been looking at my strada.
- 47:03But like 5 minutes per kilometer is the pace.
- 47:06Yeah. You don't say 5 minute 430 pace.
- 47:11430 per kilometre is the pace. 30 pace is not a thing.
- 47:16Oh, so they're writing the word pace.
- 47:18Or they're saying it. OK, fine.
- 47:20Like 430 pace, what are you talking about?
- 47:24It's 430 per kilometre. I did 5 minutes running at 4
- 47:27minutes. Thirty per kilometre not I did 5
- 47:29minutes running at 4:30 pace. This is niche, but that upsets
- 47:33me quite a lot. Yeah.
- 47:35Because 430 pace is a term that's been made-up and is
- 47:37accepted and. Usually, usually we agree and
- 47:42I'm trying hard. I'm trying hard to get on your
- 47:44level here. I I don't know it's.
- 47:46Bad English. It's when people say 6:00 AM in
- 47:49the morning. When else was it?
- 47:52When yeah, that's annoying. 530 pace, Yes, you ran 530 per
- 47:56kilometer. Something that really gets to me
- 47:59as well is when someone uses this when they're typing 24 hour
- 48:03clock and then we'll also put PM.
- 48:06I'm like they've gone 1530 PM. I'm like, thanks for clarifying.
- 48:14I'm good with that. No, the AM in the morning thing,
- 48:16which I just threw in there actually, that really grinds my
- 48:19gears quite a lot when people do that.
- 48:22OK, I've got two more quick ones.
- 48:26Yeah, you go for it. People that drive with their
- 48:30maps on satellite mode I can't see.
- 48:33No, that's I. Literally cannot see where I'm
- 48:36supposed to go because it's on satellite mode.
- 48:38And the other one is people that use Waze.
- 48:42You don't like Waze? Why do we have a childish UI?
- 48:45Like the user interface looks like it was designed to be on a
- 48:48plastic phone? Yeah, don't tell me that it is
- 48:50better than Google Maps. And I don't care if Google Maps
- 48:53takes me one minute longer than whatever your fancy software
- 48:55does. I don't have to look.
- 48:57At it, but doesn't it tell you like speed cameras and it gives
- 49:00you all. Supposedly, but like it doesn't
- 49:02have to and Google does that as well.
- 49:03Yeah, and also just like, just don't speed.
- 49:06Well, my counter to that as someone that likes to know that
- 49:10the car can go fast sometimes, is use your eyes.
- 49:14Yeah, like sometimes. I've been caught out by mobile
- 49:16speed camera vans, don't get me wrong, but they're fucking
- 49:20yellow. I was driving in Slovenia
- 49:22recently, their cameras white. Yeah, hard to see.
- 49:26CCTV camera, equal speed camera over there.
- 49:29They can be one in the same. Yeah, I am still expecting
- 49:32numerous speeding tickets because also their roads make no
- 49:35sense. So like there is a general rule
- 49:36of what you're supposed to do. Sometimes I'm talking past some,
- 49:40sometimes I'm driving past people and I'm overtaking them
- 49:42and I'm like, oh shit, I'm going too fast.
- 49:44And then they're all overtaking me two minutes later.
- 49:47And then the speed, I can see 3 speed signs that are 40
- 49:50kilometers an hour up and down within the same kilometer.
- 49:54And I'm just like, wow, I must be doing 80 pace.
- 50:00That's good. I mean, wait, have you got one
- 50:02more? Yeah, but you guys?
- 50:03OK, arriving to a race that could be a running race or maybe
- 50:09a high rocks race. Wearing your race shoes?
- 50:13Oh. That annoys me.
- 50:14Yeah, that's fine, because you shouldn't just be wasting them
- 50:16like that. I'm just like, come in sliders
- 50:19man. Yeah, like, look like, you know
- 50:21what you're doing. Like real athletes.
- 50:22Yeah. Comfortable until they don't
- 50:24have to be. That's what it is.
- 50:27Actually. I said I had one more.
- 50:28I actually have two for this. Episode 1 is a revisit of last
- 50:32episode. OK, the Olympic thing.
- 50:35OK, so quick context. The Olympic ceremony happens,
- 50:41but some sports have already started, which makes no sense to
- 50:43me. I don't know why sports start
- 50:45before the Olympic ceremony when it's the opening ceremony.
- 50:47It should come before everything else.
- 50:49We both independently went away and looked up why it happens.
- 50:53And I'm delighted to tell you, I don't know if you want to give
- 50:57the official reasoning word for word, but the actual reason they
- 51:01do it is that there isn't a reason.
- 51:04It's poor planning and they admit that and they do it every
- 51:07time. It's something about there being
- 51:09so many sports events that is such a tight schedule.
- 51:12They have to, they have to start some sports before.
- 51:14But then that just defeats the point.
- 51:16Just move the ceremony. I think they they use events
- 51:19like football as the example, but I'm just like there's so
- 51:23many stadiums that they're using around the country of the the
- 51:27host nation that yeah. So, the official says due to the
- 51:31tight schedule of the Games, it is normal for some sports events
- 51:35to start two or three days before the opening ceremony.
- 51:37Cool. So, so you're.
- 51:39Correct, it's like it. There's no reason to not just do
- 51:42the opening ceremony two to three days before they before
- 51:45it's supposed to be so. We could form our own Olympic
- 51:49Committee. We could consult for the Olympic
- 51:51Committee, yeah. Easily.
- 51:53And just move everything two to three days further back.
- 51:56Yeah, after the ceremony, whatever.
- 51:58Nightmare. But there, there we are.
- 51:59A lot of people thought I was an idiot and there was going to be
- 52:01a really good reason. There's not so.
- 52:03It's a shame. I wish there had been a good
- 52:04reason. Yeah, the actually, the other
- 52:07crime ideas, we said we didn't have too much input from angry
- 52:09people this week, But without asking for crime ideas, I had
- 52:12five people send me a picture that was on Instagram, including
- 52:18you. Oh.
- 52:19No. Tesco Tesco have put themselves
- 52:23as part of Nemesis. I was wondering what I'd done.
- 52:25Yeah, Tesco have put themselves as arch nemesis.
- 52:28For those that need a bit of context on why that is, quite a
- 52:31few episodes now. We spoke about Grind My Gears,
- 52:34things that are pissing us off and my thing is birthday cake
- 52:36flavored things. Birthday cake is not a flavour.
- 52:39A cake has a flavour. Birthday cake flavoured things
- 52:42also taste awful, like they're so sweet they've got funfetti in
- 52:45them. Tesco when?
- 52:47Fetti. Tesco, I doubt it was because of
- 52:51what I said on the episode but they thought wow we're going to
- 52:55make a birthday cake flavoured sandwich and like this is this
- 52:58is legit. I thought it was bullshit when I
- 53:00first got sent it but they have released a birth cake.
- 53:03A birthday cake flavoured sandwich.
- 53:06But that has to be in response for to the to the M&S
- 53:09Strawberries and Cream sandwich. Yes, so I haven't had that.
- 53:12M&S have done a strawberries and cream sandwich, but the I
- 53:15believe the bread is like sweet bread and I thought it was like
- 53:18sponge, whatever. But that to me is a cake like
- 53:22that is a flavour of cake Vic. 'S sponge, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:24So that you could say this is a birthday cake cake.
- 53:28A birthday cake sandwich? Yeah, fine.
- 53:30But calling it a birthday cake sandwich and just shoving a
- 53:32random flavour with funfetti in a sandwich is not.
- 53:36That is birthday cake flavin. It's going to taste bad.
- 53:37I tried to get us one of those sandwiches and the only thing
- 53:42that could piss me off more than someone selling a birthday cake
- 53:46flavoured sandwich in a meal deal is the fact that it was
- 53:49sold out in two big Tescos big. Tescos.
- 53:52Big Tescos and I even went to their petrol stations to see and
- 53:56they didn't have any. It wasn't even listed but the
- 53:58shelf was empty and that just. That pisses me off so much.
- 54:02So what I did was I went to Marks and Spencer's to state my
- 54:06annoyance at Tesco for doing such a stupid thing and I've
- 54:09bought. Oh, he's actually got one.
- 54:11I've got one. I was going to cut it in half so
- 54:14we could share it, but you've actually had.
- 54:15This. Yeah, I have, yeah.
- 54:17Do you know when I had it as well?
- 54:18We're. Going to open this while you
- 54:20talk. It's not going to take long, but
- 54:22I'll try and drag it out. So we're just touched down in
- 54:25the airport in Gatwick. Yeah, we'd come, we'd come back.
- 54:29Yeah, we'd come back from Majorca and I was hungry.
- 54:32I was waiting for you to slowly make your way through the
- 54:35electronic barriers. Well.
- 54:36Let's not talk about. That and M&S was the only the
- 54:40only available shop before we got on the train.
- 54:42So I saw that, took my shop, tried it.
- 54:46It is very The bread feels nice. So for those that are on
- 54:50YouTube, this is what it actually looks like.
- 54:52It looks good. It does look good.
- 54:54It smells good. Yeah, it's legit.
- 54:55Strawberries cream in what looks like normal bread.
- 54:58Yeah, I don't want to, I don't want to like skew your opinion.
- 55:02And you just talk while I do this because it's really awkward
- 55:04when we eat. And those people have the ASMR
- 55:07people want it. There's no ASMR and I wish I
- 55:08see, I wish you hadn't done that again.
- 55:11For those that are watching on YouTube, you've just witnessed
- 55:13me put the sandwich in my mouth and then tried to keep talking.
- 55:15So I took it out. I'm going to confidently now
- 55:18actually eat it. OK, but there's like there's
- 55:21nothing in that sandwich which is like that could be bad Cream
- 55:27is good bread. We like bread, do.
- 55:30You want the other corner he has.
- 55:33I will. I must say it.
- 55:34Isn't it? Yeah, it's heavy, it's annoying.
- 55:36It has only. 1/2 like who's got the other half of my sandwich?
- 55:39I think about that quite a lot. But no, that's good.
- 55:42Like there's nothing bad in there.
- 55:44I don't think it necessarily needed to be made.
- 55:47No. I don't think the world needed
- 55:48it, but like they nailed it around Wimbledon because
- 55:52obviously Wimbledon is strawberries and cream and
- 55:54they've absolutely smashed it. I'm going to put it in there.
- 55:55I'm going to eat it. Later.
- 55:57But it's like, how else does anything get made if, if no one
- 56:00takes the steps to go look, we're going to make a sweet
- 56:02sandwich? I'll tell you what doesn't need
- 56:04to be made. Fucking birthday cake flavour
- 56:06sandwich. Fuck off, Tesco.
- 56:08I really want to try it. Yeah, I mean, we will try and
- 56:10get one here if the general public can wise up and realize
- 56:14that it's an awful decision to buy one or if someone wants to
- 56:18send one to us. Didn't weren't M&S getting in
- 56:20trouble something around the tax because they were trying to sell
- 56:24it as a sandwich? But actually the sugar content
- 56:26means it's a dessert and you pay more tax.
- 56:28It's like the whole Jaffa Cake thing again.
- 56:29Oh, do they? Is that well?
- 56:31No, no sticky point. Was it a cake?
- 56:33Is it? A yeah, yeah, that was huge.
- 56:34Oh right, that went to Wow. This is such a spin off.
- 56:38But I mean we do this and people seem to enjoy it, so we're going
- 56:40to do it. Jaffa Cake had to go to court
- 56:43over the fact that whether or not they were a biscuit or a
- 56:46cake because biscuits have higher tax on them than cakes.
- 56:50That's that's confuses me. It's.
- 56:53Auk thing but the way that they. So it's fine, yeah, just accept
- 56:57it. The way that they proved it was,
- 57:00they left the Jaffa Cake out and it went stale.
- 57:03But if you left a biscuit. And it went hard, OK, which is
- 57:06what happens when cakes go stale.
- 57:08But if you get the biscuits soggy.
- 57:09Interesting. Oh, soft yes.
- 57:13No, no. No.
- 57:14We will stop there. But yeah, so they they proved
- 57:17that they were a cake, not a biscuit, and therefore they're
- 57:19allowed to have the cake level of tax.
- 57:21However, M&S has had to do the same thing with their sandwich
- 57:24over that. I believe they've actually won
- 57:26and it is a sandwich because it is something between two bits of
- 57:30bread and that was the argument was there was cake, but it is
- 57:32actually bread and I can confirm that now it is.
- 57:34It's more bread than it is anything else.
- 57:36I I don't want to go into the nuances.
- 57:38I was going to talk about some pastry, some bit of cake,
- 57:41whatever. Everyone knows we hate pastry.
- 57:43Yeah, we won't go down that rabbit hole again.
- 57:45Well, I mean, we are now at a point where I am going to be
- 57:50made to look like an idiot, yes. So it's your turn to do the
- 57:54rocks quiz or or Game I'm. Still, it's it's a quiz and a
- 58:00game. It's a game to make me look like
- 58:03I don't know what to talk. About that's not the reason why
- 58:05I did it, but it's I think it's quite difficult.
- 58:08I'm still basking the glory of my Spanish knowledge.
- 58:10Yeah, you don't actually very, very well on that.
- 58:12Yeah, that was that was my best quiz to date.
- 58:15Yeah, and we didn't even do like much in the way of flags, which
- 58:19you were claiming is your biggest strong point.
- 58:21Got it. OK, now maybe we'll.
- 58:23Be on that for next time. OK?
- 58:24Whilst we're eating us ice, what's it ice cream size?
- 58:28Which love Ice Cream Sandwich? Maxibon If if anyone at Maxibon
- 58:33wants to sponsor this podcast, we will just eat them non-stop
- 58:35for the entire time that we talk.
- 58:37Yeah, we won't even talk. We'll just, we'll just eat.
- 58:40All right, so the game slash quiz, you have to guess the
- 58:44sports person based off the facts that I give you at.
- 58:50Least I'm really good with names.
- 58:53Now, some of the names and the sports people are harder than
- 58:58others, but as a result of added in more information within that,
- 59:03I appreciate it. If you're really struggling
- 59:05after the five clues essentially that I'm going to give you, I'll
- 59:09give you another clue which might make it more obvious.
- 59:12OK, cool. So we're going to start with the
- 59:15easiest one, I think of the lot, maybe join easiest.
- 59:18So I'm going to give you a couple of facts.
- 59:21And the idea is to kind of guess the sports person in as few
- 59:25facts as yeah, yeah, you get that right.
- 59:27I got it. So this first person he has won
- 59:312F1 World Championships in 2005 and 2006 is your first clue?
- 59:402000 and five 2006 what a lot of 10 getting into Fernando Alonso.
- 59:49He's got it. First one I knew.
- 59:51OK. Give him a give him a good one
- 59:53early on. Yeah.
- 59:54Good. All right, Well done getting my
- 59:55confidence out. Yeah, I'm impressed.
- 59:56Smash it to pieces. Let's go.
- 59:59OK #2 she has an OBE and is a former competitive British
- 1:00:06swimmer who specialized in freestyle.
- 1:00:09Is your first fact. Oh God.
- 1:00:14I don't think this game is conducive to being concise
- 1:00:18either. No.
- 1:00:19I'm hoping you're playing along at home.
- 1:00:21Yeah, if you playing along at home, if you know this, you will
- 1:00:24know this straight away. And I think I have the person's
- 1:00:27face. Yeah, again, it's the name
- 1:00:29that's going to let me down. That's fine.
- 1:00:30Would you want your second one? Yeah, I'll take my second. 1 So
- 1:00:33she won two gold medals for Team GB in the 2008 Summer Olympics
- 1:00:38in the 400 and 800 free. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I know who
- 1:00:42this is, but I just don't know her name.
- 1:00:44As we go through the facts. The name maybe OK.
- 1:00:49So then at the 2012 London Olympics she won two more
- 1:00:53medals. This time she won bronze in the
- 1:00:56same 2 events, so the 400 and 800 free.
- 1:01:01Just like, just so that I think I'm going down the right route.
- 1:01:04Do you know what she looks like? Yeah.
- 1:01:05Yeah. Is she blonde?
- 1:01:06Yeah. Is she quite tall?
- 1:01:08Yes. Yeah.
- 1:01:08I think I know who this is but I've completely forgotten her
- 1:01:10name. What's really annoying is I know
- 1:01:16someone that was AGB swimmer most recent Olympic Games and I
- 1:01:19can't get her name out of my head.
- 1:01:21That was Abby Wood, but I know it's not her.
- 1:01:25Because after her retirement in 2013, she began working as a
- 1:01:29swimming pundit with the BBC alongside Marc Foster, most
- 1:01:34recently working at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
- 1:01:39Again, I've got, you know what I'm like with this?
- 1:01:41I've got like letters or something in my head and like
- 1:01:44for some reason Sophie is in my head, but it's not.
- 1:01:50This is the thing. This sucks because I'm not going
- 1:01:52to get the answer, but like I've I know you know.
- 1:01:55So I'll give you the final clue. Her most distinguished career
- 1:01:59moment, basically, that was self-proclaimed by me.
- 1:02:05It was her appearance on Celebrity MasterChef in 2017.
- 1:02:08I didn't even know she'd done that.
- 1:02:11Me neither until I started. With can I ask for one more clue
- 1:02:14and I want to know. I want to request what the clue
- 1:02:18is. OK, of course.
- 1:02:19Can you give me the initials RA Rebecca Addlington HE.
- 1:02:24Smashed it. Yeah.
- 1:02:25Yeah, I knew you knew. Yeah, that's so annoying.
- 1:02:27I need to be so much better with names.
- 1:02:29I don't know what I didn't think.
- 1:02:30I well, you knew, yeah. You knew who it was.
- 1:02:32You know the face was Yeah. OK #3 then so essentially you've
- 1:02:37gone 2 for two. With a little but like.
- 1:02:40You knew. It there'll be people listening
- 1:02:42to this going, that doesn't count.
- 1:02:46Yeah, I'm feeling in a good mood.
- 1:02:47I'm being too nice, all right. He's currently ranked as the
- 1:02:51Male world #5 Singles Tennis player I.
- 1:02:55Was so happy you weren't going to say tennis.
- 1:02:56But has previously been one higher fourth ranking in the
- 1:03:00world. I think he dropped rankings
- 1:03:02maybe last month he went from 4th to 5th but someone needs to
- 1:03:07Fact Check that. Has he been higher than four
- 1:03:09before his four the highest? Is his highest, yeah.
- 1:03:14Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear. I need another clay.
- 1:03:18He's British and 23 years old. You're also when you you might
- 1:03:27not have the name in your head, but when you hear the name,
- 1:03:30you're going to be like, wow. Yeah, I know.
- 1:03:35Again, there's names that there's like the first names
- 1:03:38that are coming into my head, but I don't think any of them
- 1:03:39are right. Do you think any of the other
- 1:03:42clues that you're going to give me is going to help me on that?
- 1:03:46He got knocked out in the second round in Wimbledon this year.
- 1:03:50No, that hasn't helped. No, it's again just confirming
- 1:03:53who I think you're talking. About last year he reached the
- 1:03:56semi finals of the US Open which I think is his other than
- 1:04:00winning on the ATP he's. The best he's done.
- 1:04:02Yeah. OK, I've got three names that
- 1:04:05are in my head and I don't think any of them are right.
- 1:04:08So first one is Oliver obviously wrong?
- 1:04:14Yeah, obviously I had no. And then I've got a Ben.
- 1:04:18See, I mean, they're good guesses with also Archie.
- 1:04:21Archie. Yeah, I don't think.
- 1:04:22No, no. Do you want the initials?
- 1:04:25Give me the initials. JD.
- 1:04:33No. Do you want the total prize
- 1:04:35money he's won, having won three ATP tours anyway?
- 1:04:398,193,771 lbs. Yeah, actually no U.S. dollars.
- 1:04:44Doing well, Yeah. Who is he?
- 1:04:47Jack Draper. I was obviously going to go Jax.
- 1:04:50Like what other? Names were there.
- 1:04:52I mean, they could. Have been John, but like.
- 1:04:54You went through the classics, but yeah, no, you went Archie
- 1:04:57over Jack. Yeah, I know.
- 1:04:59Come on. All right, so you're still
- 1:05:01doing. I'm alright.
- 1:05:02You're doing more. That was a bit, that was a bit
- 1:05:04upsetting. All right, this one, This one's
- 1:05:05a shoo in. This was the the other easiest
- 1:05:07classic term. Yeah, shoo in.
- 1:05:10He's a British distance runner and his active years were
- 1:05:14between 1996 and 2023. And 202319962023, that's quite a
- 1:05:24long time. I think based off that you can
- 1:05:29probably get it. Male distance runner.
- 1:05:34British. British.
- 1:05:36I feel like I should be able to get that.
- 1:05:39I'm just trying to. I can't really put a face.
- 1:05:43Oh, 1996 feels way too early. But how old would he have been?
- 1:05:49Like, really young, competitively.
- 1:05:51Is it Mo Farah? Yeah.
- 1:05:53Very good. Thank God.
- 1:05:54Because if it was, yeah. No idea.
- 1:05:57I want to, I want to read the facts anyway because they're
- 1:06:00just silly. Do you want to have a guess at
- 1:06:02his 10 KPB on the road? It's the British national
- 1:06:05record. Oh, is it something like 2654 or
- 1:06:092730 something? At least 2744, yeah, Yeah,
- 1:06:13that's good guesses. All right then his his mile PV
- 1:06:18that's got to be quick. Does he I?
- 1:06:21Reckon he hasn't broken? I reckon he hasn't.
- 1:06:22Broken 4 No, he has. He has.
- 1:06:24Come on. Give the guy banks with goat.
- 1:06:26Give him some credit. 355.8. That was good. 57.992 yeah
- 1:06:35that's fucking 4 Olympic golds and this is my favorite 1.
- 1:06:38I don't know why, but he's won the Great North Run every year
- 1:06:43between 2014 and 2019. Jesus, yeah, he can't stop.
- 1:06:49He has to keep going. Yeah, and I think he still has.
- 1:06:53The. British marathon record or was
- 1:06:56that broken by I? Think that was broken this year
- 1:06:58by Alex Yee? Was it Alex Yee?
- 1:07:00No. What's?
- 1:07:01He called. He did 210, didn't he?
- 1:07:02Is. That the British record, no.
- 1:07:07Yes, I don't know what time he did there.
- 1:07:09I'm, I'm he's, I think he's a two hour 7 runner.
- 1:07:12Damn, that's crazy. Which is actually, by the way,
- 1:07:15Fact Check that I heard Alex Yee had the target of two O 7 in his
- 1:07:19first ever marathon at London. Incredible.
- 1:07:22And he's so he's he's pissed that he did 2 hours 10.
- 1:07:25He's a triathlete. When I was looking for people to
- 1:07:28choose for the quiz I was I was researching Elliot Kipchogi and
- 1:07:34obviously the video of him breaking 2IN Vienna comes up and
- 1:07:38obviously I'm a comment troll as well.
- 1:07:40So I was looking through the comments and someone had written
- 1:07:43it was like the top comment said.
- 1:07:45I wondered why they weren't sprinting sooner because like
- 1:07:49for the last however long they like the commentator famously
- 1:07:53says oh they're racing now like the gloves are off and they
- 1:07:55start really going and every time I watch I get goosebumps.
- 1:07:59But it's like the reason why they weren't sprinting before is
- 1:08:02because their top end pace is basically sprinting pace they
- 1:08:06got they're running sub three of they're sprinting.
- 1:08:09Yeah. Why aren't they sprinting?
- 1:08:10They're already sprinting. They're sprinted from the the
- 1:08:12word go. They're just lucky enough to
- 1:08:14have another gear, yeah. Oh, that's so incredible.
- 1:08:17OK, last one, last one, last one, right.
- 1:08:20She's American and 28 years old. OK.
- 1:08:27You want more I'm. Trying to think she's like
- 1:08:31famous. Sports so iconic.
- 1:08:34Oh, does she do gymnastics? I shouldn't have said that.
- 1:08:39No, I was, I mean, I was trying to think of people that are that
- 1:08:41age anyway, because I the immediate thought that I had was
- 1:08:45like Livi Dunn, who's actually just a cheerleader.
- 1:08:49She's just very well known their social presence.
- 1:08:53What's even funnier about this is her boyfriend or husband is
- 1:09:00annoyed by how well she's respected over him.
- 1:09:04Do you know his name for a bonus point and what team he plays for
- 1:09:10He. Plays for the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:09:11He's an NFL cornerback. I'm pretty sure you got both of
- 1:09:15those facts wrong. Really.
- 1:09:17I think he's a safety for Chicago.
- 1:09:20I traded recently. I think he might have been.
- 1:09:22Traded. He was definitely out of Green
- 1:09:24Bay and well, I say definitely that was a bit of a risk.
- 1:09:27I'm pretty sure he's a Green Bay.
- 1:09:28Yeah, he's a Packer and he plays cornerback.
- 1:09:31What's her name? Yeah, that sounds about right.
- 1:09:42I'll go through more effects. Give out, give me more stats
- 1:09:44when everyone else maintained well.
- 1:09:45I think she's. Got Olympic gold medals through
- 1:09:49her ears, but she's got 11 total Olympic gold.
- 1:09:52No 11 Olympic medals of different colours.
- 1:09:58I think the majority of them are probably gold medals.
- 1:10:00Yeah, but she has 30 World Championships.
- 1:10:03In my. Word When you go on Wikipedia.
- 1:10:06Yeah, because obviously where would you get any of your
- 1:10:09knowledge from or any of your effects from?
- 1:10:10You Scroll down the medals better.
- 1:10:12It's just like gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold.
- 1:10:14It's so sad. She's 4 foot 8.
- 1:10:20She's. Tiny.
- 1:10:20Yeah, my height. Oh no, why is this happening to
- 1:10:26me again like it does every episode?
- 1:10:29Her husband is called Jonathan Owens.
- 1:10:32Yeah. I don't know if she's taken his
- 1:10:35surname. She won't.
- 1:10:37He should take her. Yeah, I was going to say yeah.
- 1:10:40She's too successful for that. Simone Biles smashed it, Yes,
- 1:10:45well done. That came out of nowhere as
- 1:10:47well. Yeah, that was very good, I
- 1:10:48think. Yeah.
- 1:10:48I mean if it's not an easy one to an easy game to do well.
- 1:10:52Absolutely not. I was impressed with the
- 1:10:54Fernando. Alonso It was a good, good
- 1:10:55question. Yeah, Fernando Alonso was a bit
- 1:10:56of a rogue one. I was very close to doing Kimi
- 1:11:00Raikkonen, but it was the fact that you said 2 because Kimi
- 1:11:02Raikkonen won one around the same time.
- 1:11:05But yeah. My last, my last fact for
- 1:11:07Fernando was the championship car he won in was blue and
- 1:11:11yellow and I think he got that straight.
- 1:11:13Away, Yeah, yeah, also I think I know that Formula One cars are
- 1:11:18fast now, but I think that car might be the quickest car if you
- 1:11:23put them all against each other because it was the V12 and it
- 1:11:26was. The glory days, that's kind of
- 1:11:28like my my earliest memories of watching F1.
- 1:11:31I had a a blue and yellow Renault hat that I got when I
- 1:11:35was in Spain. From where he's from, but I
- 1:11:38remember watching F1, like sat in my dad's lap when I was tiny.
- 1:11:41But that was like the first season where I'm like, OK, I get
- 1:11:44it now and Fernando Alonso has to go and he's still driving.
- 1:11:47Now he's like 44. Also a massive a bit.
- 1:11:50This is going to seem like a massive jump because we
- 1:11:52mentioned him in that quiz bit. Alex Yee reappeared on the
- 1:11:57triathlon scene. Yeah.
- 1:11:58Recently. Yeah.
- 1:11:59Yeah, I watched it on YouTube. Yeah.
- 1:12:01I was going to. Say right, Not only did he.
- 1:12:03Watch that video. Yeah.
- 1:12:04Yeah, go watch him. Go watch him.
- 1:12:05Sorry for spoiling it. He won, everyone crosses the
- 1:12:09line and collapses on the floor with their hearts coming out of
- 1:12:12their chest and then they get helped up by him who just went
- 1:12:17and got a bottle of water, said cheers guys and literally
- 1:12:20started picking people up off the floor behind him.
- 1:12:22It was outrageous how fast they were running.
- 1:12:25He's like, he's such an unassuming presence as well.
- 1:12:28Like, he's just so amazing and like his performance at the
- 1:12:32Paris Olympics as well against Hayden Wilde, the New Zealand
- 1:12:35guy who I'm also a massive fan of.
- 1:12:37Like if you follow Super League triathlon or just the general
- 1:12:40world triathlon, Hayden Wilde's a cool guy.
- 1:12:43And Alex E was just playing with him the whole time on that race,
- 1:12:46like pretending he was tired and then just like smoked him at the
- 1:12:49end. Sad.
- 1:12:50I I also want to bring in something that I think we should
- 1:12:53leave for the audience to think about and come back to.
- 1:12:56Maybe we'll put this into a reel.
- 1:12:59You proposed a potential question of who do you think
- 1:13:03would win and it's been on my mind and I want to slightly
- 1:13:07adjust your question. Something I want to.
- 1:13:09Slightly eject it so do you want to ask the question and I'll
- 1:13:12give you the adjustment and I want you to think about it and
- 1:13:14maybe we'll discuss it next episode, but I want people to so
- 1:13:16I actually. I can't take credit for this
- 1:13:17question. I was out riding my bike the
- 1:13:19other morning and one of the people I was riding with asked
- 1:13:22me and we were sat around discussing it over coffee.
- 1:13:25Who wins an Iron Man? It's an Iron Man triathlon.
- 1:13:29Michael Phelps goes head to But who wins in An Iron Man out
- 1:13:52of those 3 and I? Immediately said, well, I think
- 1:13:55Teddy Picacho wins just purely on the percentage time of an
- 1:13:58Iron Man is spent on the bike gives him the best time to be
- 1:14:01able to build an advantage. And like you then said, he's
- 1:14:04obviously not going to be as fast at running.
- 1:14:06But like so much of the bike aerobic stuff and the the
- 1:14:09muscles are being as well, mechanics is very going to be
- 1:14:11he's going to be lost to the cyclists.
- 1:14:13As a good runners so I have. No idea how much how how good he
- 1:14:15is at running but I can't imagine he's bad but he's a lot
- 1:14:18better than me. So.
- 1:14:20I want to change your question to being who wins an Iron Man
- 1:14:2770.3. OK.
- 1:14:29So it's half the distances which gives him half the chance
- 1:14:32because now we are also talking about with their ability, their
- 1:14:38ability to step up the pace as it's shorter and I don't know
- 1:14:42who wins across that. Interesting because when you
- 1:14:46look at someone like Kip Chogi, obviously his half time is still
- 1:14:50like baffling, but comparatively his marathon time.
- 1:14:56I might be outspoken to his. His marathon time is probably
- 1:15:01relatively better, possibly better longer.
- 1:15:05It sounds like a stupid thing to say, but the half marathon is
- 1:15:07probably too short for him. Yeah, but I but I'm saying the
- 1:15:11same about Pogachar is better probably over a longer distance
- 1:15:15than he is that shorter distance.
- 1:15:17But it's like it's still not. But then also, Michael felt this
- 1:15:20is definitely going to be better over that shorter distance than
- 1:15:23the four and a half K because, like, he'd would never swim.
- 1:15:25Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:26So you're bringing? Michael felt this more.
- 1:15:27Into it, but like he's he's still better at that distance,
- 1:15:30but it's still worlds apart. Like there's no doubt he wins
- 1:15:33the swim. Like, no, there's no doubt.
- 1:15:35Look, we're teeing the conversation up for that.
- 1:15:38We've started it off that's. The whole episode that could.
- 1:15:41Be a whole episode in itself. If you want us to try and talk
- 1:15:42about that, we'll go away. We'll bring some science back.
- 1:15:45We'll argue. I just want to see it.
- 1:15:47But let us know what you think in the comments on YouTube or on
- 1:15:50any of the social media posts. We'd love to know your thoughts
- 1:15:53and why that's important because we're going to challenge you.
- 1:15:56We might bring some of those coins in the next episode.
- 1:15:58So that kind of wraps us up for this episode.
- 1:16:01Any final thoughts and feelings? I don't think so.
- 1:16:04I'm looking forward for my birthday cake sandwich next
- 1:16:06episode. Yeah, if we can, if we can find
- 1:16:09one, yes, it actually is a business offence.
- 1:16:11Thank you very much man. This is a tax man.
- 1:16:14But with that guys, lovely having you join us again.
