- 0:27Samantha Pruitt: Hey, what's up, beautiful people?
- 0:29Samantha Pruitt: Coach Sam here going solo today without my girl Polly.
- 0:33Samantha Pruitt: She's out and about in the world.
- 0:35Samantha Pruitt: And I wanted to talk to you about something I'm kind of obsessed with and have been for a long time.
- 0:42Samantha Pruitt: Detoxifying.
- 0:45Samantha Pruitt: And not just detox your body, as in your colon, but detoxing your life.
- 0:52Samantha Pruitt: And when people think about detoxing, they tend to think specifically about juice fasts and bowel cleanses and sometimes addiction treatment centers.
- 1:02Samantha Pruitt: They may think that a detox is only something you do annually or seasonally, and sometimes just after a major life crisis.
- 1:10Samantha Pruitt: Well, personally, I don't think of detoxing in that way at all.
- 1:13Samantha Pruitt: And though, truth be told, I have done all those things above.
- 1:17Samantha Pruitt: But after I turned 50, I got laser clear about both my own mortality, still coming to grips with that, as well as my personal life's purpose.
- 1:28Samantha Pruitt: I have refrained this cleansing, detoxifying, and recalibration process for myself, and I wanted to share.
- 1:37Samantha Pruitt: To me, now the process of detoxification is an ongoing part of life.
- 1:42Samantha Pruitt: It is a regular as-needed tool to apply when working on your physical health, your mental and emotional health, and your spiritual health.
- 1:50Samantha Pruitt: We all need it, and during different times throughout our life, throughout the year, throughout the week, and even throughout the day, we might use this tool in various different areas of our life, again and again and on an as-need basis.
- 2:07Samantha Pruitt: With the goal of cleansing, detoxifying, and recalibrating whichever area of our life doesn't feel good.
- 2:15Samantha Pruitt: Whichever area of our life isn't bringing us joy.
- 2:19Samantha Pruitt: Whichever area of our life needs investing in because we're not reaching our full potential there.
- 2:26Samantha Pruitt: Under this new reframe, detox model, I say, well, hell, I'm detoxing all the time then.
- 2:33Samantha Pruitt: Whether it's a detox detoxification of my body or a detoxification of my mind or my spirit, I feel that trying to keep the house clean on a regular basis makes more sense than waiting for the hoarders to move in and then trying to evacuate them.
- 2:50Samantha Pruitt: Why wait for the misery to get so great or disaster to strike before you get busy making shit happen?
- 2:58Samantha Pruitt: Here are some of the big and little ways I do it in case you're inclined to try.
- 3:04Samantha Pruitt: Number one, detox your environment.
- 3:08Samantha Pruitt: Start by getting rid of shit.
- 3:10Samantha Pruitt: At the heart of mine, or the heart of me, I should say, is a very minimalist and simplistic person.
- 3:18Samantha Pruitt: Whether you believe it or not.
- 3:20Samantha Pruitt: No matter what my husband says, I'm a minimalist, I'm a simple person, I don't need a whole hell of a lot to live or to make my space beautiful.
- 3:29Samantha Pruitt: And actually, the more stuff, the more cluttered, the more visual distraction in my space, the more mess that is in my line of sight, the more distracted and uncomfortable I am.
- 3:41Samantha Pruitt: I love doing this on a regular basis in my own home, in my own car, in my own office, as well as helping other people do it.
- 3:48Samantha Pruitt: Our environments should simply be a reflection of our values and add peace to our daily life decisions and routine.
- 3:58Samantha Pruitt: Our environment should be clean of chemicals, pollutions, and allergens.
- 4:02Samantha Pruitt: People, number one, detox your environment, get rid of shit.
- 4:07Samantha Pruitt: Number two, detox your schedule.
- 4:11Samantha Pruitt: Start by eliminating things.
- 4:14Samantha Pruitt: You know, like you would eliminate foods that you have an allergic reaction to.
- 4:18Samantha Pruitt: Looking at your calendar, looking at your schedule, what do you have an allergic reaction to?
- 4:23Samantha Pruitt: What on your calendar and schedule brings you stress?
- 4:26Samantha Pruitt: What obligations or commitments have you made on your calendar that are no longer serving you?
- 4:33Samantha Pruitt: And where the heck is the space on your calendar and schedule that allows you to rest and digest?
- 4:38Samantha Pruitt: If there is no time for servicing your health, mental, physical, or servicing the quality of your life and its relationships, then it's time to get the black Sharpie out and start canceling shit.
- 4:51Samantha Pruitt: I do this on the regular basis.
- 4:53Samantha Pruitt: It feels so good.
- 4:55Samantha Pruitt: Every Sunday before I start the next week, I evaluate my schedule for the week.
- 4:59Samantha Pruitt: Once a month, I review my year.
- 5:02Samantha Pruitt: Calendar detox is my favorite thing to do, honestly.
- 5:05Samantha Pruitt: And I know it's the only way I will achieve my big ass goals and live a healthy, happy life.
- 5:12Samantha Pruitt: Because when I made those prior commitments and obligations, it might have made sense at the time, or I might have felt pressured into it.
- 5:19Samantha Pruitt: But now in quiet reflection, connected to my values, I see it doesn't add any value to my life or track towards my goals.
- 5:26Samantha Pruitt: So the black Sharpie does the trick.
- 5:31Samantha Pruitt: Number three, detox your relationships.
- 5:36Samantha Pruitt: Start by being honest about things and about people.
- 5:40Samantha Pruitt: This one can be tricky, but it's the most powerful of all.
- 5:44Samantha Pruitt: We all spend so much time with other people investing, whether we're talking or hanging out, whether we're working with them, living with them, whether we're playing with them.
- 5:53Samantha Pruitt: There's people everywhere.
- 5:55Samantha Pruitt: Even people online that we don't even know are influencing our health and mindset every single day.
- 6:02Samantha Pruitt: That's why it's so important to be honest.
- 6:04Samantha Pruitt: First be honest with yourself about what you stand for and what you want in your life.
- 6:09Samantha Pruitt: Then be honest and evaluate the people around you.
- 6:14Samantha Pruitt: Do they share your values?
- 6:17Samantha Pruitt: Do they stand up for something you respect?
- 6:21Samantha Pruitt: Do they support you having a life that you want and deserve?
- 6:26Samantha Pruitt: Does their energy feed you in a way that makes you feel empowered every day and capable of living the life of your dreams?
- 6:33Samantha Pruitt: If you have a list of people that are in your circles, big and small, ask these questions and be honest.
- 6:40Samantha Pruitt: If the answer is no, no means no.
- 6:44Samantha Pruitt: It's time for you to move on and surround yourself with people who you can say yes to do.
- 6:50Samantha Pruitt: If they are people that you can't simply say no or goodbye to for whatever reason, then this is where you make some really clear boundaries for yourself about how you will interact with this person, when you will interact, how much you will interact, how much and how will you keep yourself detached from their influence to the best of your abilities.
- 7:12Samantha Pruitt: Regular clarification and strengthening of this boundary is key for a relationship like this.
- 7:18Samantha Pruitt: This one is not my favorite to do.
- 7:21Samantha Pruitt: It's not as easy as the black sharpie, and it's not as easy as cleaning out my closet.
- 7:26Samantha Pruitt: It's tricky.
- 7:27Samantha Pruitt: But I will say this it's made all the difference in my life and in my mental health.
- 7:33Samantha Pruitt: I have so many roles and obligations to relationships with others, and most of us do.
- 7:38Samantha Pruitt: But as I mentioned in a prior solo episode about practicing non-attachment, this is where that muscle is critical.
- 7:47Samantha Pruitt: Go back and take a listen to that episode if you want to learn more about it.
- 7:50Samantha Pruitt: Non-attachment and how I do it.
- 7:53Samantha Pruitt: With the humans in your life, it's tricky, but you've got to do it.
- 7:58Samantha Pruitt: Detox your relationships.
- 8:01Samantha Pruitt: Number four, detox your body organs and your brain organ.
- 8:07Samantha Pruitt: You know your brain's an organ, right?
- 8:09Samantha Pruitt: Start by stop.
- 8:11Samantha Pruitt: Start by stopping, putting junk into this most precious gift that you were ever given.
- 8:17Samantha Pruitt: The body and brain you inhabit is literally the most important gift you were ever given.
- 8:23Samantha Pruitt: It's life.
- 8:24Samantha Pruitt: Being in the health and fitness profession now for over 25 years, I still cannot believe how many people do not feel good in their bodies or their brain is not functioning well, and they still refuse to look at what they're putting in their body as the fuel and building blocks for changing how they feel and function.
- 8:44Samantha Pruitt: The two are directly linked, people.
- 8:47Samantha Pruitt: And truthfully, when it comes to getting the best out of your physical health, physical performance, and mental health, there is not one diet or one exercise program that works.
- 8:57Samantha Pruitt: Of course, every single human being is completely individual in their needs and how their body will respond to not only food that they put in their mouth, but the exercises they do, as well as the sleep and recovery protocols that they do with their body.
- 9:10Samantha Pruitt: And there's plenty of people to help you figure that shit out, like me, if you need help.
- 9:14Samantha Pruitt: But that said, there is some pretty basic foundational health truths that every human can do to feel better in their body and brain.
- 9:26Samantha Pruitt: So if you're thinking about physical detoxes and brain detoxes, some of it is taking away things, like eliminating, and others might be adding in.
- 9:36Samantha Pruitt: It's not always about subtraction, sometimes it's about addition.
- 9:42Samantha Pruitt: Here's my faves.
- 9:45Samantha Pruitt: All of this you should already know.
- 9:47Samantha Pruitt: And if not, whichever jumps out at you as a new truth, please start it immediately.
- 9:54Samantha Pruitt: Okay, we ready?
- 9:55Samantha Pruitt: Number one, eat a full rainbow of fruit and vegetables.
- 9:59Samantha Pruitt: I mean a rainbow, people.
- 10:01Samantha Pruitt: Okay, not just everything needs to be green.
- 10:04Samantha Pruitt: Mother Nature is super colorful and she's got a lot to offer.
- 10:08Samantha Pruitt: Eat whole food protein.
- 10:10Samantha Pruitt: Okay, quality whole food protein.
- 10:13Samantha Pruitt: Whatever type you want.
- 10:15Samantha Pruitt: If you're a vegan, whatever you're into, it's all good.
- 10:18Samantha Pruitt: Get some protein into your body, please.
- 10:20Samantha Pruitt: Avoid processed foods.
- 10:22Samantha Pruitt: That one seems obvious.
- 10:24Samantha Pruitt: Avoid fried foods.
- 10:26Samantha Pruitt: Also seems obvious.
- 10:28Samantha Pruitt: Avoid added sugar.
- 10:29Samantha Pruitt: Now that might surprise some people because what do I mean by added?
- 10:32Samantha Pruitt: Well, added means it's not natural.
- 10:35Samantha Pruitt: Somebody put it in there to make it taste good.
- 10:39Samantha Pruitt: Avoid alcohol.
- 10:42Samantha Pruitt: Do not eat two hours before bed.
- 10:45Samantha Pruitt: This is called digestive rest.
- 10:49Samantha Pruitt: Drink half your body weight in fluid ounces of water every day.
- 10:53Samantha Pruitt: Half your body weight in fluid ounces of water a day.
- 10:56Samantha Pruitt: Yes, indeed.
- 10:58Samantha Pruitt: Do not smoke or vape.
- 11:00Samantha Pruitt: Breathe clean air.
- 11:03Samantha Pruitt: Get real deep sleep, ideally eight hours a night.
- 11:08Samantha Pruitt: Get sunlight in your eyes in the morning.
- 11:11Samantha Pruitt: Get a small amount of sun on your body throughout the day.
- 11:14Samantha Pruitt: And do not expose yourself to screens or unnatural lighting two hours before bed.
- 11:22Samantha Pruitt: Move your body so that your muscles can contract your lymphatic system, which is the pump of waste product in your body.
- 11:31Samantha Pruitt: Removing waste from your body requires lymphatic pump, and that comes from muscle contraction.
- 11:37Samantha Pruitt: Move your body so your heart can pump your cardiovascular and circulatory system, again, bringing nutrients and oxygen to your entire body and brain.
- 11:48Samantha Pruitt: Move your bowels each day.
- 11:50Samantha Pruitt: Come on, people, you gotta poop.
- 11:52Samantha Pruitt: So your body can remove unnecessary food elements and waste products.
- 11:58Samantha Pruitt: Well, besides those big areas up above that I just listed, detoxification focuses you can have, there's so many things in your life, excuse me, that you can do on an ongoing and regular basis.
- 12:14Samantha Pruitt: All of these things may need detoxification, so I'm going to read off some other areas that I didn't touch upon.
- 12:20Samantha Pruitt: Are you ready?
- 12:22Samantha Pruitt: Bad habits, house clutter, clothes, junk food, booze, drug overindulgence, online or social media exposure, piles of paperwork, apps and I AI use, apps and AI use, noise pollution, space and furniture clutter, system inflammation, so that's in your body, and all the various 11 systems that make your body function.
- 12:56Samantha Pruitt: Bowel and lymphatic sluggishness, I mentioned, unhealthy relationships, I mentioned, joyless artwork or decor in your spaces, work and study related expired resources.
- 13:09Samantha Pruitt: Why are we keeping this crap?
- 13:11Samantha Pruitt: TV time, news, I could go on all day long.
- 13:16Samantha Pruitt: There's so many things that people are doing on the daily they might not even have awareness of that it might be due for a detox.
- 13:24Samantha Pruitt: Be honest, you can always be detoxifying some area of your life, and ultimately it will make your life better.
- 13:31Samantha Pruitt: It starts with awareness.
- 13:33Samantha Pruitt: Then it requires simple, regular actions to cleanse, detoxify, and recalibrate any and all aspects of the life that you want.
- 13:43Samantha Pruitt: It's no one else's job, and there isn't a season or a specific date that has to occur for you to want to feel better.
- 13:50Samantha Pruitt: Pick one or hell, pick them all.
- 13:53Samantha Pruitt: I basically rotate around these different areas based on what seems to be causing me the most stress and holding me back from reaching my goals.
- 14:02Samantha Pruitt: But you do you.
- 14:04Samantha Pruitt: All I want for you is to feel good.
- 14:07Samantha Pruitt: Because how your life feels is more important than how it looks.
- 14:12Samantha Pruitt: And every day is an opportunity to find your awesome.
- 14:17Samantha Pruitt: See you next week.
