Latest / AWAKEN with Dylan Ayaloo: Inner Work, Healing, Yoga & Meditation / [EP30] When should I trust my gut?
Transcript
- 0:00So the question is, when should I trust my gut?
- 0:01How do I know if it's genuine gut feeling or just my doubts and fears coming out to play?
- 0:06So my answer to that would be, it's a balance of trusting your gut or heart, you could say.
- 0:15Trusting the intelligence of your mind, trusting the intelligence of your body,
- 0:20and not ignoring your connection to higher intelligence.
- 0:25So if you're around this body of work, then that shouldn't sound strange to you.
- 0:30if you're listening to the recording or the podcast, then maybe if it's a new concept, then
- 0:33I'd invite you to consider it, right? And what I've learned from my experience of doing this work
- 0:40is that the body has its own intelligence. The mind has its own intelligence. You know,
- 0:46what we call the gut or the heart has its own intelligence. And they all have a place,
- 0:51a time and a place. And for certain situations, you know, if I'm doing something that requires
- 1:00the intelligence of my mind or my brain, then that's what I should be using. And that's normally
- 1:07when I need to solve a problem, right? Because this is a supercomputer built to solve problems.
- 1:13It's really good at, you know, coming up with ideas and solutions to solve problems, right?
- 1:19And then there's a mix of the intelligence of the heart or the gut, as you say, right? So,
- 1:24you know, you could say an intuition and, you know, the intelligence of the body and the
- 1:30our connection to higher intelligence, right?
- 1:32Which is not outside,
- 1:33even though I'm pointing out,
- 1:34it's actually within us.
- 1:35And it's a balance, right?
- 1:38Of listening and consulting
- 1:41all these faculties of intelligence
- 1:43that is within us.
- 1:46Minds, the heart, the gut,
- 1:48the body,
- 1:50and infinite intelligence.
- 1:53I don't believe it's one or the other.
- 1:57Generally, it's a good idea
- 2:00our different faculties, right? And then sit and consider it and come to a decision,
- 2:07not just sit with it and never make a decision. Because indecision, as I've said before,
- 2:16it's also a decision. And the choices we make gives us the results that we get or have already
- 2:22gotten. And if the results that we have gotten don't work, then you can go back and reverse
- 2:30that you made or can make to give you a different set of results if that's what
- 2:36you want how do I know if it's genuine gut feeling or just my doubts and fear
- 2:40coming out to play this one so far what I've worked out my measure for it and I'm
- 2:46just sharing my measure for it is that it's hard to kind of work it out in the
- 2:50mind right because it's like I'm trying to get the mind to think feeling because
- 3:00intuition element, you could say I'm not feeling. So thinking, feeling, I realize doesn't work.
- 3:07So rather than trying to think feeling, how about I go into feeling the feeling? And a different
- 3:16place for me to feel into things is my body. Because the body is far more tangible, you could
- 3:26say, than me trying to connect my emotions through my mind, as in thinking, feeling.
- 3:33So the body, because it's connected, like mind, the body, the heart is all connected.
- 3:39You can't separate it.
- 3:41One will reflect on the other.
- 3:44So if I'm in fear, fear response tends to show up in sensations in the body.
- 3:53So if I'm stuck in my head, right, or I'm stuck in some emotions, some difficult emotions, let's say, or let's say fear, then you want to switch to a different modality, you know, the body, the physical body.
- 4:07And quite simply, like we do in our meditation, if you scan the body, you start to pick up sensations, right, as in like feel sensations in the body.
- 4:19sensations of fear and doubt show up differently in the body to trust let's say which is kind of
- 4:28what you're saying here like how do i know if it's a genuine gut feeling right a gut feeling
- 4:35has a very different set of sensations in my physical body to fear like a fear response
- 4:42Fear generally tends to show up for me as a tightness, as a restriction, a constriction, like muscles tensing up.
- 4:49And obviously, I'm exaggerating here with this motion, like squeezing in shoulders and arms and gritting the teeth.
- 4:57And like all the muscles are kind of tense, right? Face, shoulders, arms or wherever they are.
- 5:03and trust tends to show up, you know, like openness in the body, meaning the muscle groups that were
- 5:11maybe tense when I'm fearful, they're relaxed. Like my face, my jaws, my shoulders, my chest,
- 5:17my heart, belly, you know, like things are relaxed and it tends to show up in the body.
- 5:23This is why it's another reason why it's so powerful to work on awareness in the body.
- 5:32Because the body is always speaking in sensation.
- 5:36It is giving us clues.
- 5:38It's showing because it's connected to the emotion.
- 5:41It's connected to the heart.
- 5:42It's connected to the mind.
- 5:43If I'm thinking fearful thoughts, I'm going to feel emotions of fear.
- 5:48and the body's going to reflect sensations of that or doubt, let's say, like you said.
- 5:55So I tend to switch into, right, like, okay, I can't track it, so let me go to the body instead.
- 6:01Switch modalities, I guess is what I'm saying.
- 6:04And that has given me a clue.
- 6:07And not only switch modalities to track it, but also if I'm too much in my head
- 6:13or I'm too deep in some emotions and I can't get out of it,
- 6:18example, I'll go to the body. So not only track it in sensation and go, okay, I'm in fear, I'm in
- 6:24doubt, I'm in worry, right? Like I'm in anxiety right now. Use your breath and body connection
- 6:31to move that energy through, to move that emotion through. So let's say if I'm feeling anxious about
- 6:37something, right? It's like switch your breathing. Maybe the breathing would be anxious breath is
- 6:44like shallow breath, short, sharp breath. So switch it to deep breathing. Or there's tightness
- 6:51in the body and just kind of feel stuck. Okay, so maybe move through some postures,
- 6:56like stretch out. Or just do one or two postures. You don't have to be on the mat.
- 7:02Sometimes I'll just do, I'm in my house, I'm just like, do a forward fold and just release the
- 7:08tension in my back, in the back of the legs. Switch into deep breathing. Or do a lunge.
- 7:14hand on a counter, kitchen counter or something, right? Or a chair. And then just do a lunge.
- 7:20Do it on both sides or do a twist. I just use whatever's around you. Do a little stretch to,
- 7:26you know, do a bit of breathing. Or if you're in the office or at a meeting room, then I don't know,
- 7:30go to the bathroom or something and do a stretch or go out for a walk, right? And just improvise.
- 7:38But if you're in an environment where you can't and you have to, you know, keep it together,
- 7:42then you can do it with breath and shifting the breath the depth of the breath by switching your
- 7:48breath to deep breathing it'll switch you out of fear doubt worry you know all those kind of
- 7:54high tension emotions to a much more open relaxed state open resourceful state where you can tap
- 8:05into your resources internal resources and probably make better decisions because you're able to think
- 8:12with more clarity.
- 8:16So,
- 8:18when should I trust my gut?
- 8:20I'd say all the time.
- 8:23But also don't ignore
- 8:24the intelligence of your head
- 8:26because there are times
- 8:27when you need to
- 8:27use the intelligence of your mind.
- 8:29We are not here to fight
- 8:31the intelligence of the mind.
- 8:33It's not evil.
- 8:34There is a time and place for it.
- 8:37To use the intelligence of the mind,
- 8:39to use the intelligence of the body,
- 8:42And don't forget, it's more a reminder for me as well,
- 8:47don't forget your connection to the divine,
- 8:51to infinite intelligence.
- 8:54We forget often when we're in our heads,
- 8:56we're climbed into our heads,
- 8:58we're going around and around in circles,
- 9:00we're disconnected, we disconnect ourselves
- 9:03from infinite intelligence.
- 9:06You know, it's like I've said it in,
- 9:08well, maybe not so recent programs,
- 9:09but like the in-person awaken, I think in December and things like that, it started to talk about
- 9:14the difference between artificial intelligence and higher intelligence. And it's kind of ironic
- 9:20that we have created artificial intelligence so that we can just go and access it anytime and ask
- 9:25it all sorts of questions. And yes, it's gotten clever and cleverer, but it's still not as clever
- 9:30as infinite intelligence, the intelligence that creates all things and no things, hide the universe.
- 9:36and that we have full access, free, high speed, instant connection
- 9:44to this intelligence and it's available all the time.
- 9:49Yet, when we're stuck in our heads and we're limited to thinking like,
- 9:54you know, this is why I'm this object and I'm trying to make it
- 9:56in this crazy thing called life.
- 9:58Yeah, it's kind of cute that we create artificial intelligence.
- 10:02Yeah, it's useful.
- 10:03But, you know, don't forget like you're connected to infinite intelligence.
- 10:06and you can consult that faculty of intelligence as well,
- 10:10the highest intelligence.
