- 0:13Speaker 1: Well, hello, welcome back everybody to the Dan John University
- 0:16Speaker 1: dot com podcast. I'm Dan John. This is episode three
- 0:20Speaker 1: hundred and fifty two. If you have a question for
- 0:23Speaker 1: the podcast, please send it to this address podcast at
- 0:27Speaker 1: dan Johnuniversity dot com. I do my best to answer
- 0:31Speaker 1: each and every question, but we're getting a lot lately,
- 0:35Speaker 1: and a lot of them more repeat questions, and so
- 0:39Speaker 1: we're just trying to combine the ideas together. I hope
- 0:42Speaker 1: that helps. Our first question today is from Michael. Michael
- 0:45Speaker 1: says this, I think you may have answered this question before,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but for the life of me, I cannot find the
- 0:52Speaker 1: podcast where you addressed it. I was wondering if it
- 0:55Speaker 1: would be possible an easy strength to alternate days where
- 0:59Speaker 1: I focus on and going heavier on one exercise one
- 1:02Speaker 1: day and heavier on a different exercise than next. I
- 1:06Speaker 1: think naturally a lot of us who do it for
- 1:08Speaker 1: a while end up doing it this way. Michael, So
- 1:11Speaker 1: the original answer straight up is yes, it's just fine
- 1:15Speaker 1: for example, and now he'll give us some details what
- 1:18Speaker 1: he means. For example, on Monday, challenging myself a bit
- 1:22Speaker 1: on my bench press while still playing in my comfort zone,
- 1:25Speaker 1: but going light or moderate and intensity in the other exercises,
- 1:29Speaker 1: then on Tuesday challenging myself on the deadlift but going
- 1:33Speaker 1: easier on other exercises. Obviously, as you can say again
- 1:37Speaker 1: and again, I should listen to my body and lift
- 1:40Speaker 1: as much as I feel comfortable on any given day.
- 1:43Speaker 1: But I wonder if I'm following a structure like this
- 1:46Speaker 1: as closely as I can would help to avoid overtrain
- 1:50Speaker 1: and burn out. One of the great things about easy
- 1:52Speaker 1: strength is you don't burn out, you don't overtrain. Guaranteeing
- 1:57Speaker 1: that I'm challenging muscles used in every individual movement pattern
- 2:01Speaker 1: at least once a week, but also giving every muscle
- 2:04Speaker 1: and movement pattern a chance to recover and build on
- 2:07Speaker 1: the work from the days where I lift a little
- 2:10Speaker 1: heavier in that particular movement pattern. Do you think there's
- 2:13Speaker 1: any merit to this ideal? What are your thoughts? Yeah?
- 2:16Speaker 1: So sometimes, and I like this variation folks. So now,
- 2:20Speaker 1: obviously you know I've written a massive book on easy Strength.
- 2:25Speaker 1: On the book, it's massive. You can find a Dan
- 2:27Speaker 1: john University dot COM's last bookstore, and it I mean
- 2:31Speaker 1: I cover everything. In some of my earlier writings, you'd
- 2:34Speaker 1: find some of this on Teenation and then on my
- 2:37Speaker 1: one of my blogs, probably the Dan John dot net,
- 2:40Speaker 1: which is no longer with this blog WordPress. One of
- 2:44Speaker 1: the things I used to recommend is that I I've
- 2:47Speaker 1: changed in my own personal train. I don't do this,
- 2:49Speaker 1: but I moved to this in my early fifties, where
- 2:53Speaker 1: you would lift, for examplet's just do it this week.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You're going to lift three days a week. And let's
- 2:58Speaker 1: just say because Monday's National bench press Day. Monday is
- 3:02Speaker 1: bench press and the big the big push day, the okay,
- 3:07Speaker 1: but on that day you still do a light set
- 3:10Speaker 1: of chin ups, the light set of squads, a light
- 3:12Speaker 1: set of deadlifts, and maybe an easy farmer walk. Wednesday
- 3:15Speaker 1: is the big poll day. You do your you do
- 3:17Speaker 1: your loaded you know you weighted chin ups, you do
- 3:19Speaker 1: your ros, then some light presses, some light squat squads,
- 3:24Speaker 1: a light deadlift, and a light farmer walk. Friday is
- 3:27Speaker 1: the hard lower body day. This isn't working out perfectly
- 3:30Speaker 1: in this example, but that's the day you go for
- 3:32Speaker 1: in the front squad. You go for the deadlift, and
- 3:34Speaker 1: you go for on the farmer walk, and then you
- 3:37Speaker 1: do some pushes, easy pushes and pulls. To ease the
- 3:39Speaker 1: day out. That's just an example. The way I train
- 3:44Speaker 1: now with Monday is mostly an upper body day, Wednesday's legs.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Friday is kind of a mixtured day with a little
- 3:54Speaker 1: Friday is the day I focus on military press and
- 3:58Speaker 1: chin ups. When you're doing an easy strength protocol like
- 4:01Speaker 1: you're saying here, which I like, you're almost sliding it
- 4:04Speaker 1: into another program I love called one lift a Day.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Came from the American heavyweight lifters of about nineteen sixty eight,
- 4:13Speaker 1: where you'd pick one lift, no shock a day and
- 4:16Speaker 1: do it. So, you know, for example, when I was
- 4:19Speaker 1: doing this at the best of my athletic career, I
- 4:23Speaker 1: think I snatched on Monday, Tuesdays was jerks, Wednesday, front squad,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Thursday rest, you know, and you just work it through
- 4:33Speaker 1: like that where you're only doing one lift, your option
- 4:37Speaker 1: here focusing. I'm going to go after overhead presses on Thursday,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and on Fridays, I'm gonna go after front squads, but
- 4:45Speaker 1: you're still gonna do the overhead press on Friday. I
- 4:48Speaker 1: think there's wisdom in it. I think it's a good idea.
- 4:51Speaker 1: My only concern is this is that some exercises do
- 4:55Speaker 1: better with like two or three training sessions a week. Weirdly,
- 5:00Speaker 1: I think like the overhead press can be pushed a
- 5:03Speaker 1: little bit more. I also think this is a tough one.
- 5:07Speaker 1: This is a depends on who you are. Some people
- 5:11Speaker 1: find if they do chin ups pull ups two or
- 5:14Speaker 1: three times a week they can get steady improvement. Other
- 5:17Speaker 1: people more than one day a week at chin ups,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and their railbows start the bark. So you've got to
- 5:21Speaker 1: be careful here. If you're like me and you weren't
- 5:23Speaker 1: born to squat, squatting daily at a reasonable amount and
- 5:28Speaker 1: then having that one hard work out a week probably
- 5:31Speaker 1: would have done a lot of good work for me. So, Michael,
- 5:35Speaker 1: I like your idea. So to review gentle listeners. His
- 5:38Speaker 1: idea that you can do easy strength. You can do
- 5:41Speaker 1: the five exercises and you're going to focus. We'll just
- 5:44Speaker 1: go Monday through Friday to save things. You're going to
- 5:46Speaker 1: focus on exercise A on Monday, but do the other
- 5:49Speaker 1: four lifts exercise B on Tuesday, and do the other
- 5:53Speaker 1: four lifts exercise C on Wednesday, and do the other
- 5:56Speaker 1: four lifts D other four lifts E four lifts. I
- 6:01Speaker 1: haven't done this, but I would just say, it just
- 6:04Speaker 1: makes sense that it would work. Again, You're gonna have
- 6:07Speaker 1: to give it a few weeks to see how things go.
- 6:10Speaker 1: There might be an exercise or two that you find
- 6:13Speaker 1: needs in your case, maybe a hard hard day and
- 6:17Speaker 1: a medium hard day. Or you might find that you
- 6:21Speaker 1: like this idea, but you know, I have workouts that
- 6:24Speaker 1: I can only do once every two weeks or never. Now,
- 6:28Speaker 1: like the Tabata front squad workout. I would do that
- 6:31Speaker 1: every two weeks to prepare myself for the conditioning I
- 6:34Speaker 1: need on the platform at an Olympic lifting meet. You
- 6:36Speaker 1: might find that there might be an exercise that you
- 6:40Speaker 1: only need to push once every two weeks. So, Michael,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I guess my point, my big point is it is
- 6:45Speaker 1: going to be a bit of an experiment of one
- 6:48Speaker 1: you're gonna have to take. You're gonna have to take
- 6:50Speaker 1: some good notes. You're gonna have to kind of pay
- 6:52Speaker 1: attention to progress. Remember on the upper body, if you're
- 6:57Speaker 1: you know, if you're atting five to ten pounds over
- 7:00Speaker 1: a limited amount of time, say a month, and in
- 7:03Speaker 1: the lower body ten to twenty pounds, that's that's good progress,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and that you know, adding ten pounds a month to
- 7:10Speaker 1: the overhead press in a year. That's that's a lot
- 7:14Speaker 1: of weight. You know, that's even five pounds, that's sixty pounds.
- 7:18Speaker 1: That's that's a lot of load in the overhead press
- 7:20Speaker 1: in a year. One hundred and twenty in a year.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I don't know if that's it could be possible, but
- 7:24Speaker 1: that's a pretty good jump. You know, if you're pressing
- 7:28Speaker 1: one forty now and in a year from now you're
- 7:30Speaker 1: pressing two sixty, you're going to look a lot different,
- 7:32Speaker 1: especially for two easy sets of five. Love the idea.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Don't know enough about it, but I think you'll need
- 7:39Speaker 1: to experiment, keep good records, and you know, wait till
- 7:44Speaker 1: at least day twenty two of the forty days before
- 7:47Speaker 1: you make any big decisions. Stick out the plan. So basically,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you want to be into, you want to be passed,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you want to be passed week two, three, four before
- 7:59Speaker 1: you make any decisions. I picked twenty two because that's
- 8:02Speaker 1: usually when I did my best, but on the forty days,
- 8:05Speaker 1: so you want to get over halfway before you go, Okay,
- 8:09Speaker 1: this isn't working or this I need to make huge changes.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Get there first, then make some decisions. Thank you, Michael,
- 8:16Speaker 1: wonderful question and a lot of fun to look at. Okay,
- 8:19Speaker 1: we've got a question from Riley, and Riley says this.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm a thirty two year old physician with young children.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I am constantly surrounded by germs. I started Armor Building
- 8:29Speaker 1: Formula on January first of this year and saw phenomenal results. Hey, folks,
- 8:35Speaker 1: thirty two year old physician with young kids and making progress.
- 8:39Speaker 1: That's what I want to hear. That's what I want.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's what I do this for. I made it to
- 8:44Speaker 1: about five weeks until I came down with a good
- 8:46Speaker 1: old common cold. From previous training mistakes, I have learned
- 8:51Speaker 1: to strictly avoid weight training, went sick and focus only
- 8:54Speaker 1: on recovery. Okay. I took several days off and then
- 8:57Speaker 1: did a few lighter workouts before officially resuming the program.
- 9:02Speaker 1: My question is, how do you personally jumpstart or revamp
- 9:05Speaker 1: your training after an illness sets you back? Okay, So
- 9:09Speaker 1: Riley appreciate for those you have no idea what he's
- 9:12Speaker 1: talking about he's talking about. I have two books, The
- 9:15Speaker 1: Armor Building Formula and then, of course, the brilliantly titled
- 9:19Speaker 1: Armor Building Formula Too. Dan John University dot Com, slash Bookstore,
- 9:25Speaker 1: so I can remember just a few years ago where
- 9:28Speaker 1: Nate and I were doing the ten thousand Swing Challenge
- 9:31Speaker 1: and it was at the lowest point in my life.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And I can say that with total candidness. And I
- 9:37Speaker 1: also had COVID and I was very sick with COVID.
- 9:41Speaker 1: But every day the two of us would get online,
- 9:43Speaker 1: I would put on my would I filmed it all.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I don't know if it's on my YouTube site, but
- 9:49Speaker 1: it was on my Instagram live and Nate and I
- 9:52Speaker 1: would do five hundred swings together every morning for twenty days.
- 9:57Speaker 1: And then I would say thanks everybody, Thanks, and then
- 10:01Speaker 1: I would fall in the couch and fall asleep for
- 10:03Speaker 1: about three hours. That's not the way you should do sickness,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but I was using my training to overcome some emotional issues.
- 10:12Speaker 1: You know, we used to joke as teachers rightly, and
- 10:16Speaker 1: you might understand the same thing. Teachers tend to get
- 10:19Speaker 1: sick on Christmas vacation and June. The month of June.
- 10:23Speaker 1: It's because you've been going, going, going, going, going. You know,
- 10:27Speaker 1: there's a little calendar that says three days ago, two
- 10:30Speaker 1: days ago, one day to goo yay into school. School ends.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You walk around the building about an hour later, and
- 10:37Speaker 1: it's just you know, the kid's backpacks. You know they
- 10:40Speaker 1: some kids throw papers in the air and then get
- 10:42Speaker 1: in trouble because they don't think that they have their
- 10:45Speaker 1: names on the paper, and they get in trouble for that,
- 10:47Speaker 1: at least at school's I taught him. And then I'd
- 10:49Speaker 1: go home and say, ah, finally get a chance and
- 10:52Speaker 1: get sick. Okay, I still use The basic thing is
- 10:56Speaker 1: if I have a stomach issue that would be a
- 10:58Speaker 1: diarrhea or vomiting, it's a done so done. So it
- 11:03Speaker 1: comes down to me to the two things. If I
- 11:06Speaker 1: have a fever, then I don't train it all. If
- 11:09Speaker 1: I have a fever, I wrap up, I might sauna,
- 11:12Speaker 1: I drink excessive amounts of water, and I just go
- 11:16Speaker 1: with it. If I have a cold, and the problem
- 11:18Speaker 1: is I also have allergies, so I'm never sure if
- 11:21Speaker 1: it's a cold or pollen. But I don't have funny
- 11:25Speaker 1: this year. My allergies are actually quite good compared to
- 11:28Speaker 1: everybody else's so for me, so that's how I kind
- 11:32Speaker 1: of work it. If it's intestinal, don't work out. I
- 11:36Speaker 1: don't want you spotting me in the back squat when
- 11:39Speaker 1: I have diarrhea. It's the old joke I use. You know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: if you're vomiting, you shouldn't be out in the gym
- 11:45Speaker 1: with the fever. I figure the body is fighting something
- 11:49Speaker 1: big time, so I won't work out with a fever.
- 11:52Speaker 1: If it's a cold, it could be allergies, it could
- 11:54Speaker 1: just be the sniffles. If I feel miserable with a cold,
- 11:59Speaker 1: eye off and find that if I do work out
- 12:02Speaker 1: and walk when I come home, I feel better. So
- 12:06Speaker 1: that's how I break it down. The other thing in
- 12:09Speaker 1: your physician, I hope you support me on this. I
- 12:11Speaker 1: do now twice a year I do blood tests. I
- 12:15Speaker 1: pay for the one of them, and my insurance picks
- 12:17Speaker 1: up the other. I donate blood five times a year,
- 12:20Speaker 1: so I get those minor checkups every time I go
- 12:23Speaker 1: to the dentist, and I go to the eye doctor
- 12:26Speaker 1: once a year. And the value on all those things
- 12:29Speaker 1: I just said is that I can really get a
- 12:31Speaker 1: sense of how things are going. You know, hopefully with
- 12:35Speaker 1: all those checkups we can pick up on you know,
- 12:39Speaker 1: because of the blood I mean, okay, all of a sudden,
- 12:42Speaker 1: my blood pressure is high all the time, and blood
- 12:45Speaker 1: pressure isn't the most perfect measure. But I get a
- 12:47Speaker 1: sense of things with my bi annual blood tests. I
- 12:53Speaker 1: can see early certain things are happening. There's a PSA test,
- 12:56Speaker 1: there's some other things that give you great A one
- 12:59Speaker 1: C give you great information about where you're trending. So
- 13:03Speaker 1: that's that's how I do it. There's nothing new that
- 13:05Speaker 1: I picked. Mike junior college coach coach Loahatti taught us
- 13:09Speaker 1: that that little system vomit, diarrhea, stay in the house, fever,
- 13:15Speaker 1: shut it down, if it sniffles and cold, you know,
- 13:19Speaker 1: do your best. That's the system I use. I don't
- 13:23Speaker 1: know if it's perfect or not. I do know the
- 13:26Speaker 1: following thing though. If I do. If I take good
- 13:30Speaker 1: care of my dental hygiene I take, I do my
- 13:34Speaker 1: medical visits, I get my vaccines, I take care of business,
- 13:37Speaker 1: good things tend to happen with me. I trend in
- 13:39Speaker 1: the right direction. And yes, I am very much pro vaccine.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I grew up with my mom, of course, whose greatest fear.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Of course, her husband, her sons, her nieces and nephews,
- 13:51Speaker 1: her brothers, everyone in her family went off to war.
- 13:55Speaker 1: She didn't fear war, she feared polio. And so I
- 13:59Speaker 1: grew up with the idea that if something can be prevented,
- 14:02Speaker 1: easily prevented. So I hope that helped and thank you
- 14:06Speaker 1: so much. That's a good question. Got a question from Philip.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I just got to know your YouTube channel and podcast
- 14:12Speaker 1: format a couple of weeks ago and find it very inspiring.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you for your work in your human
- 14:18Speaker 1: and heartwarming way of talking about so many interesting things.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I am twenty seven years old, currently finishing my university
- 14:26Speaker 1: exams to becoming a teacher, and my girlfriend and I
- 14:29Speaker 1: are expecting our first daughter in June. Congratulations. That's great.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Because of studying, working and searching for a bigger apartment
- 14:36Speaker 1: for my family, my training schedule got completely thrown over.
- 14:40Speaker 1: I did nineteen Moi Thai fights on a good amateur
- 14:45Speaker 1: semi professional level with training Mui Thai three to four
- 14:48Speaker 1: times a week, two strength and conditioning sessions and a
- 14:51Speaker 1: couple of Zone two running sessions every week. Now, as
- 14:55Speaker 1: my life gets completely different, I still want to be
- 14:57Speaker 1: fit while working full time after my MS and becoming
- 15:01Speaker 1: a dad. Easy strength in the armor building complex seem
- 15:05Speaker 1: to be good routines to combine in this upcoming time. Also,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'd like to get back to martial arts training after
- 15:11Speaker 1: my girlfriend daughter and I find a home. As I
- 15:14Speaker 1: know you are realistic of getting the work in, I
- 15:17Speaker 1: would like to ask you what you would recommend me
- 15:20Speaker 1: to get assault and realistic combination of strength, endurance and
- 15:24Speaker 1: martial arts program. I would appreciate it for information. I've
- 15:28Speaker 1: got a one by sixteen kettlebell bell, one by twenty
- 15:31Speaker 1: two by twenty five kilo bells at home. Well, you know,
- 15:36Speaker 1: let's take easy strength and wipe it out of the way,
- 15:39Speaker 1: because with those bells, I think it'd be hard to
- 15:41Speaker 1: do an easy strength program. But don't worry. I have
- 15:44Speaker 1: a better idea for you. I actually think, and you're
- 15:48Speaker 1: going to have to. By the way, for the record,
- 15:51Speaker 1: for those of you who've had infants, we all know
- 15:55Speaker 1: some of us are going, yeah baby, so babies. In
- 15:58Speaker 1: my armor armor building formula book too, I have something
- 16:01Speaker 1: called a Weekend Warrior, and in that book I recommend
- 16:04Speaker 1: on Saturdays do the running back complex, and on Sundays
- 16:08Speaker 1: do high Rep Militaries, and on Wednesday do the armor
- 16:12Speaker 1: building Complex. I think it'd be a great idea for you.
- 16:15Speaker 1: What I would also recommend is best you can is
- 16:18Speaker 1: on Saturday maybe do your martial arts work, and right
- 16:22Speaker 1: after you're finished rolling around on the mat, pop up
- 16:26Speaker 1: and do the running back complex. Sundays, go roll around
- 16:29Speaker 1: the mat after you're done, do those high rep military
- 16:33Speaker 1: presses Wednesday. If you can get it in, roll around
- 16:37Speaker 1: the mat, and I would really focus on technical expertise,
- 16:40Speaker 1: and then come home and do couple rounds with those
- 16:43Speaker 1: double twenty fives of the armor building complex. One thing
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'd like you to think of is, at least for
- 16:50Speaker 1: a while when you're doing your training, if you have
- 16:53Speaker 1: a coach or a training partner, don't just get tired
- 16:56Speaker 1: out on the mat. Just don't get tired. Work on
- 16:59Speaker 1: technical skills. Don't spend a lot of time working on
- 17:04Speaker 1: conditioning and more conditioning. Work on whatever weaknesses you have
- 17:08Speaker 1: in your system. If you're not good at a certain
- 17:14Speaker 1: I'm going like this hit, work on this hit. If
- 17:18Speaker 1: you don't know how to do that hit, work on
- 17:20Speaker 1: that hit, practice, practice, practice, don't for at least a
- 17:26Speaker 1: while until you can kind of get more serious time
- 17:28Speaker 1: back on the mat. At your age, you're young, don't
- 17:32Speaker 1: overwhelm yourself with conditioning. More conditioning for one thing, you're
- 17:36Speaker 1: not gonna be able to recover with an infant. My
- 17:38Speaker 1: granddaughter is with thirteen months old, and sadly, my son
- 17:42Speaker 1: in law and daughter have lost a lot of sleep
- 17:45Speaker 1: in the last few weeks because of teething, and she
- 17:48Speaker 1: the poor little, poor little girl, she's just she's such
- 17:51Speaker 1: a kind little thing, and yet she's so miserable. So
- 17:55Speaker 1: thirteen months we're back to almost a newborn level of
- 18:00Speaker 1: So that's my So I would weekend warrior this thing
- 18:03Speaker 1: in the weight room, and what that'll be nice is
- 18:07Speaker 1: that'll leave you Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday to do your
- 18:11Speaker 1: job as a teacher, be present to your girlfriend and
- 18:14Speaker 1: your infant, and take care of business. And the most
- 18:18Speaker 1: important way, the only hard scheduled day I see in
- 18:21Speaker 1: the week would be Wednesday, and you're just going to
- 18:23Speaker 1: have to figure that out. I would suggest if you
- 18:26Speaker 1: have a slow cooker, Wednesday is the slow cooker day.
- 18:30Speaker 1: You make the meals Tuesday night. By the way, I
- 18:33Speaker 1: think this is good advice for everybody out there. Make
- 18:36Speaker 1: the meals Tuesday night and do your best. Okay, and
- 18:38Speaker 1: congratulations on the infant. Okay, that's awesome, awesome, Okay, thank you.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I hope that helped all right, I hoped it helped
- 18:45Speaker 1: and that I think is a really good option for you. Okay,
- 18:48Speaker 1: Paul asked a question. It makes me feel good, so
- 18:51Speaker 1: thank you. Okay, Paul says this, Hello, I just wanted
- 18:54Speaker 1: to say that I am a longtime viewer of the podcast.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I love the work Dan does and how I give sensible,
- 19:01Speaker 1: no nonsense explanations of all sorts of training methods and
- 19:05Speaker 1: other elements of life. I've gained some really great insights
- 19:09Speaker 1: into my own training from the podcast. My favorite is
- 19:12Speaker 1: the one Lift to Day program, and Paul, I love it.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I think One Lift to Day is the least appreciated
- 19:18Speaker 1: program I offer. The problem it is just too simple.
- 19:23Speaker 1: How many lifts you can do today? One? Well? Can
- 19:25Speaker 1: I had bench press? Well that would be two. Well
- 19:27Speaker 1: can I do it well, then it wouldn't be one. Yeah.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Although I've had great success using it, I was wondering
- 19:33Speaker 1: if Dan had any updates or thoughts on improving the program.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You know, Paul, let's just answer this question first before
- 19:39Speaker 1: I move on to the next question, because I appreciate
- 19:42Speaker 1: the next question. The issue I have with improving the
- 19:44Speaker 1: one day, One Lift to Day program is that they're
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know, so Week one, folks, you do seven sets
- 19:51Speaker 1: of five in the exercises you choose. Week two is
- 19:54Speaker 1: six sets of three. Week three is you're testing yourself
- 19:57Speaker 1: a set of five, a set of three and then
- 19:59Speaker 1: a heavy double. And set four is you do circuit
- 20:03Speaker 1: training or compound training a d load week and then
- 20:06Speaker 1: the next week your job is to try to add
- 20:08Speaker 1: to the seven sets of five, six sets three and
- 20:11Speaker 1: the five three to two. The challenge is the next
- 20:14Speaker 1: month you get how it goes. At the peak of
- 20:16Speaker 1: me using this, after every set of the lifts, I
- 20:21Speaker 1: would do a jump. Originally we did a whole bunch,
- 20:24Speaker 1: and later it became on the seven sets of five.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Look on power snatches, we might do two or three
- 20:31Speaker 1: just vertical jumps. Originally it was ten, and I was like,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you know the plan that I've mentioned several plans, but
- 20:39Speaker 1: you know the one where we were doing the snatch
- 20:42Speaker 1: on Monday. Let me give you a different variation than
- 20:46Speaker 1: I usually would. Maybe the bench press on Tuesday, military
- 20:50Speaker 1: press on Tuesday. Wednesday, the front squad seven sets of
- 20:53Speaker 1: five with jumps, brutal. Thursday was a day off. Friday,
- 20:58Speaker 1: we usually was something like, you know, kind of dependent
- 21:00Speaker 1: on how sorry you were for Wednesday's workout, but it
- 21:03Speaker 1: could be something as simple as a power clean. And
- 21:05Speaker 1: then on Saturday we did break the rule because we
- 21:08Speaker 1: did snatch and clean and jerk. I have countless variations
- 21:12Speaker 1: of this, so my mind gets jumbled. Adding medicine ball
- 21:15Speaker 1: throws between those sets would be very good. So if
- 21:19Speaker 1: you're can do seven sets of five, you do medicine ball,
- 21:22Speaker 1: you can mix it up. You could do jumps in
- 21:24Speaker 1: medicine ball and bounds and skipping. You could do sprints.
- 21:28Speaker 1: You could do running backwards, or you can just sit
- 21:31Speaker 1: there and just sit there and recover. That would be
- 21:35Speaker 1: fine too, And if you do that, think it through.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Do some logic if you can. But it's a great program.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I don't have really anything to add to it because
- 21:45Speaker 1: the program that's gonna I'm not comfortable saying this because
- 21:49Speaker 1: tomorrow will probably have some great insight. The program has
- 21:52Speaker 1: pretty bulletproof right now, so let's just mess it up, okay.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I like the We've had great success with it, and
- 22:02Speaker 1: I just don't know. I just don't know how to
- 22:05Speaker 1: make it better. As an Olympic lifter, it was the
- 22:07Speaker 1: best thing I ever did in my career and everybody
- 22:09Speaker 1: knows what I'm about to say. It worked so well
- 22:12Speaker 1: I stopped doing it. I remember when I changed programs
- 22:14Speaker 1: and Dave Turner just I think he was. Dave doesn't
- 22:18Speaker 1: really get angry angry, but I got to tell you
- 22:20Speaker 1: his voice was ringed with disappointment. I got advice to
- 22:24Speaker 1: do a completely different high volume program, and Frank I
- 22:28Speaker 1: never lifted as well. Again, so it's a great program.
- 22:31Speaker 1: The discipline of it is month three, you know, having
- 22:36Speaker 1: to do it for three months, which is hard for anybody.
- 22:40Speaker 1: So updates in the program. No update is my regrets
- 22:44Speaker 1: for not doing it more. Okay, thank you. Okay, Now
- 22:48Speaker 1: we have a follow up question from Paul That yeah,
- 22:51Speaker 1: makes me kind of happy to be honest with you,
- 22:53Speaker 1: so thank you. Paul says this, I recently rewatched an
- 22:57Speaker 1: episode from five years ago and then one from a
- 23:00Speaker 1: few days ago. It's really noticeable how healthy Dan looks
- 23:03Speaker 1: compared to five years ago. He didn't look unfit then,
- 23:06Speaker 1: of course, just better now. I'd love to hear more
- 23:09Speaker 1: about the changes Dan has made to his diet or
- 23:12Speaker 1: training to achieve this. Well. First off, you know, thanks,
- 23:16Speaker 1: you know, it's uncomfortable for me to have these kind
- 23:22Speaker 1: of discussions. But I thank you so much. Let's just
- 23:25Speaker 1: go for that. Let's just knock out the big rock
- 23:27Speaker 1: right now. Five years ago, I was under a tremendous
- 23:29Speaker 1: amount of stress, and i'd been probably since the start
- 23:33Speaker 1: of this podcast. I had some major stressors in my
- 23:37Speaker 1: life that aren't aren't a parent, are with me anymore.
- 23:42Speaker 1: I mean, I certainly have other stresses stress, you know.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I mean, it's life, you know. I mean, I have
- 23:48Speaker 1: a family member in harm's way right now, and I worry.
- 23:54Speaker 1: You know, I got daughters going through transitions, good transitions,
- 23:57Speaker 1: you know, babies becoming toddlers, becoming you know, walkers, walkers
- 24:03Speaker 1: becoming kindergarteners. You know how that goes. But I was
- 24:06Speaker 1: under a lot of pressure there for a long time.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Also too, I was dealing with some major surgeries. I
- 24:15Speaker 1: always think it's funny when I read online that I
- 24:17Speaker 1: don't know what I'm talking about because I've had surgeries.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And I think about the litany of friends who are
- 24:23Speaker 1: very famous in the fitness industry that get quoted by
- 24:26Speaker 1: this that have gone through the same surgeries I have.
- 24:30Speaker 1: I'm very happy about a few things decisions I've made
- 24:32Speaker 1: in my life, you know, I'm sneaking up on seventy
- 24:35Speaker 1: years old, and it's I mean, it's right around the corner, seventies,
- 24:40Speaker 1: right around the corner. And you know, like my you know,
- 24:46Speaker 1: my blood profiles are better than they were five years ago,
- 24:49Speaker 1: better than they were ten years ago. Let's talk about
- 24:51Speaker 1: let's just start with the big let's so big rock.
- 24:54Speaker 1: Number one is the stress is less in my life,
- 24:58Speaker 1: much less in all ways. And to get on the
- 25:02Speaker 1: other side of the stress was not a happy voyage.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Some of the saddest things in my life have happened
- 25:09Speaker 1: in the last five years. The next thing is since oh,
- 25:12Speaker 1: I don't know, probably five or yeah, probably five years
- 25:16Speaker 1: ago is when I started to invest heavily into fasting. Now,
- 25:20Speaker 1: I don't know if fasting is the miracle that you
- 25:23Speaker 1: sometimes hear, but in my case, there's a concept called
- 25:27Speaker 1: autofagi or autophagi auto self esophagus eating. I think as
- 25:36Speaker 1: you get older, fasting's biggest values. That allows your body
- 25:40Speaker 1: to deal with protein in a better way. So I
- 25:44Speaker 1: fast about about sixteen hours every day. And there's folks,
- 25:48Speaker 1: there's no heroism here, Okay. I eate dinner at six
- 25:51Speaker 1: I wake up basically six or seven, sometimes eight, like
- 25:54Speaker 1: this morning, because I had no alarm clock and had
- 25:57Speaker 1: no reason to get up. Today, I work out with
- 25:59Speaker 1: Mic and America and TJ and everybody else who shows
- 26:03Speaker 1: up at nine thirties. I drink a lot of coffee
- 26:06Speaker 1: Before that, I lift weights three days a week. I
- 26:09Speaker 1: walk seven days a week. I do mobility every day.
- 26:13Speaker 1: And then after I lift walk, I come in and
- 26:17Speaker 1: then I eat. I try to eat the exact same
- 26:20Speaker 1: brunch every day. I'll share it with you real quick.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Two eggs, a cup of cotta cheese, a fruit of
- 26:27Speaker 1: some kind, and then a fruit smoothie. I use premium
- 26:31Speaker 1: protein vanilla. And then at Costco they got the three
- 26:34Speaker 1: and four berry formula and just pour those in and
- 26:37Speaker 1: I share that, so it's only half. I used to
- 26:40Speaker 1: do two and share that, but it's just way too
- 26:43Speaker 1: much for me. So we're got to a good hit
- 26:45Speaker 1: up protein and fruit right there. Brad Pelan one time
- 26:50Speaker 1: said that if you eat protein and fruit, you're not
- 26:52Speaker 1: really breaking your fast. I don't know that's true. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: may have misunderstood that. And then I try to eat
- 26:59Speaker 1: a veget and protein heavy dinner. Some afternoons, I will
- 27:04Speaker 1: drink an additional coffee and protein drink. It comes from Costco's.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It's protein coffee or something like that. And so I
- 27:12Speaker 1: try to get you know, my coach wants me one
- 27:14Speaker 1: hundred and forty nine grams one hundred forty nine. I
- 27:16Speaker 1: think that's funny. But one hundred fifty grams one hundred
- 27:18Speaker 1: and forty hundred fifty grams of protein a day. I
- 27:21Speaker 1: get there. It's not that difficult, all right. So that's
- 27:25Speaker 1: on the nutrition side. On the body composition side. About
- 27:29Speaker 1: five years ago, I started walking more. At first, I
- 27:33Speaker 1: just took Rusty Moore's advice. I'd lift weights and then
- 27:36Speaker 1: I'd walk. Then later I just started trying to get
- 27:39Speaker 1: ten thousand steps a day. And for those of you
- 27:41Speaker 1: who know me, I'm reaching into my pocket to pull
- 27:44Speaker 1: out my pedometer. Right now, I'm at eighty six hundred
- 27:48Speaker 1: steps for my day. It's still early in the day.
- 27:51Speaker 1: That next fourteen hundred to be nothing. I mean, you know,
- 27:54Speaker 1: who knows. So let's go through number one. Big Rock.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Number one, Big Rock stressed seem to have a big impact.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Rock Number two, the intermittent fasting seems to help me
- 28:06Speaker 1: look better. I don't know if you can tell but
- 28:08Speaker 1: when you look at those other episodes, I was always
- 28:10Speaker 1: kind of bright red here. You get that from two things.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Of course before. If you have a really traumatic injury,
- 28:17Speaker 1: the cortisol levels stretch you out and you get those
- 28:19Speaker 1: at least. I think the best thing about being Irish
- 28:22Speaker 1: I'm half Irish is my face. You know, the skin
- 28:26Speaker 1: is the largest organ My face shows. My face clearly
- 28:30Speaker 1: will show you. When I'm under physical stress and even
- 28:33Speaker 1: emotional stress. I get these little red like I'm blushing. Okay,
- 28:38Speaker 1: that's the intermittent fasting seems to help with that. Next
- 28:41Speaker 1: thing is I did well. I'll get to that. But
- 28:43Speaker 1: I hired a coach, and my coach has me lifting
- 28:45Speaker 1: three days a week and focusing on those ten thousand steps.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I take the weekly measurements. Now. My daily measurement is
- 28:54Speaker 1: body weight and waistline, and that just helps me. Interesting
- 28:58Speaker 1: I can there are certain foods that will make my
- 29:01Speaker 1: waistline and I'm not making this up go up four
- 29:04Speaker 1: centimeters overnight. It's like, what the hell happened? And I
- 29:09Speaker 1: just try to avoid those foods in the future. Weekly measurement,
- 29:13Speaker 1: weekly photo I have to send in and then I
- 29:16Speaker 1: have to fill out a weekly questionnaire. So big rocks,
- 29:21Speaker 1: less stress, intermittent fasting, lifting as a bodybuilder three days
- 29:26Speaker 1: a week, ten thousand steps a day, hiring a coach,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and I got to tell you each one of those
- 29:32Speaker 1: is big. Oh. And then having a community that supports
- 29:35Speaker 1: me very well, my daughters, my lifting partners, Mike and Erica,
- 29:40Speaker 1: Oh gosh, TJ Kevin, you know, Brian Dede will show
- 29:45Speaker 1: up sometimes, other people should. This nice community of people
- 29:47Speaker 1: who help support me, Emily of course, my throwers that
- 29:51Speaker 1: they all support me. Now, the next thing, kind of
- 29:53Speaker 1: the medium the rocks is I've been getting some good
- 29:58Speaker 1: advice about certain things. Share it in armor building formula too.
- 30:03Speaker 1: But one of the things that my skin doctor has
- 30:06Speaker 1: me doing two things every day. Oh, this is a
- 30:09Speaker 1: basket that this is my morning basket I'm sharing with you, Okay,
- 30:12Speaker 1: And here's all I talked about it. Here's my measuring tape.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I measure my waistline with every day. Okay. So there's
- 30:18Speaker 1: a couple of things he recommends. First, he recommends that
- 30:21Speaker 1: I use head and shoulders, and not only do I
- 30:24Speaker 1: put it on my hair, but he also tells me
- 30:27Speaker 1: to put it on certain areas in my face, I
- 30:30Speaker 1: have that wonderful condition of he calls it adult acme.
- 30:35Speaker 1: But sometimes I'll get these w C fields. Has it
- 30:38Speaker 1: that bulbous nose thing? Yeah, I got it too, thank you.
- 30:42Speaker 1: But putting head and shoulders on here daily seem to
- 30:45Speaker 1: keep it back. So's that's a very simple thing I
- 30:51Speaker 1: do every day. And then along with that, right after,
- 30:56Speaker 1: let's just do this. I put on oil ovolas. It's
- 31:00Speaker 1: got sunscreen on my face every day. Get I get
- 31:03Speaker 1: nothing for this, okay, And I'm gonna be talking about
- 31:06Speaker 1: this in another question today. But this was recommended by
- 31:10Speaker 1: my hair person. This is Tea Tree Special. And what's
- 31:14Speaker 1: great about this is it has sunscreen in it, and
- 31:18Speaker 1: so it's it's a hair conditioning product, but it also
- 31:22Speaker 1: has sunscreen. So I used to get pretty serious sunburns
- 31:25Speaker 1: right back here. I don't know if it still still
- 31:29Speaker 1: has a patch or a hole back there, but when
- 31:32Speaker 1: I was young, I got I got a pretty good
- 31:34Speaker 1: scar back there. And so I do have a bald
- 31:36Speaker 1: spot right there. I don't know how much you can
- 31:38Speaker 1: see it, but when you if you have a bald
- 31:40Speaker 1: spot and you don't put sunscreen on it, you're getting
- 31:44Speaker 1: those burning sunburn rays. That turn in the skin cancer,
- 31:48Speaker 1: so I use that. What I also like about it
- 31:50Speaker 1: is it's my course of being a gentleman recommends that
- 31:54Speaker 1: you always have a comb on you. Oh and always
- 31:57Speaker 1: have a watch, and always have a pen on you,
- 32:01Speaker 1: but always a comb. So it allows me to comb
- 32:05Speaker 1: my hair. I feel like a nineteen fifties commercial right now.
- 32:09Speaker 1: I can't put these in my pocket, but so I
- 32:13Speaker 1: take care of those things obviously. You know. I scrape
- 32:17Speaker 1: my teeth, I have armpit juice in there. I floss,
- 32:23Speaker 1: you know, I focus on certain things. The other thing
- 32:27Speaker 1: I also did is I took a class on style.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Now you wouldn't necessarily notice it here because I just
- 32:33Speaker 1: tend to wear dark T shirts here, but taking a
- 32:36Speaker 1: style course was really helpful for me. The style course
- 32:40Speaker 1: I took is this one right here. This is my
- 32:43Speaker 1: graduation certificate, bomb bum bumb bomb bomb bomb and the
- 32:49Speaker 1: course is called Real Men, Real Style. And I really
- 32:54Speaker 1: got a lot out of it. You know. For example,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I'm going to share this. I'm working on a book
- 32:57Speaker 1: about all this, so thank you. I have a picture
- 33:00Speaker 1: of myself. It's my whole family before everything kind of exploded.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It's from nineteen seventy. It's one of the last times.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I mean there obviously probably would have been a few
- 33:10Speaker 1: more times, but I think it's one of the last
- 33:12Speaker 1: times we were ever together as a family, just before
- 33:15Speaker 1: people started dying and stuff. But I'm standing there and
- 33:19Speaker 1: I'm on a T shirt in jeans, because that's what
- 33:22Speaker 1: I wore my entire youth. If it wasn't if I
- 33:25Speaker 1: wasn't going to school or a church, I was in
- 33:27Speaker 1: a T shirt and jeans or in an athletic uniform.
- 33:30Speaker 1: And it's funny because a couple of weeks ago, I
- 33:32Speaker 1: was wearing a pair of light Levi's my nun and
- 33:36Speaker 1: bush walking around shoes, a white T shirt like this
- 33:40Speaker 1: and a sport coat on, and I had my pocket
- 33:43Speaker 1: handkerchief in an inverted V. It's sometimes called the JFK style.
- 33:48Speaker 1: And a friend of mine walked up and said, I
- 33:50Speaker 1: just can't get over how your fashion has changed. And
- 33:54Speaker 1: it made me laugh because because Paul I was wearing
- 33:59Speaker 1: a T shirt and jeans like I did in nineteen seventy.
- 34:02Speaker 1: But here it is, Ooh, I don't know if I
- 34:04Speaker 1: can do the math in this, But you know, almost
- 34:06Speaker 1: sixty years later, wearing basically the same outfit, but by
- 34:10Speaker 1: tossing on a jacket, people thought it was all of
- 34:12Speaker 1: a sudden fancy. And I think that one of the
- 34:16Speaker 1: things I'm doing to look younger is it's, gosh, the
- 34:20Speaker 1: opposite subtraction by addition. In this case, I look younger
- 34:25Speaker 1: by adding a few things. I wear a nicer jacket.
- 34:29Speaker 1: I you know, I take better care of my hands.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I you know, you know, I once I get manicurious,
- 34:37Speaker 1: but I take very good care of my my nail
- 34:40Speaker 1: beds and my fingernails. I take good care of I
- 34:45Speaker 1: try to look a little bit better, and I think
- 34:47Speaker 1: it's right there. I think it's the trying. I'm doing
- 34:52Speaker 1: a lot of things I learned in my Gentleman's course.
- 34:54Speaker 1: I'm doing a lot of things I learn in my
- 34:55Speaker 1: style course. For those of you who know me in
- 34:59Speaker 1: real life, I'm on a perpetual improvement kick. I have
- 35:04Speaker 1: the Harvard Classics just down the way there, and I
- 35:07Speaker 1: do the Doctor Elliott daily reading plan. Yesterday we read Huxley,
- 35:14Speaker 1: which was really great. You know Servantes last week. So
- 35:20Speaker 1: one of the things I think helps me, and I
- 35:22Speaker 1: really appreciate you asking, Paul, is that I've improved how
- 35:25Speaker 1: I do things physically. I'm training like you should at
- 35:29Speaker 1: my age, bodybuilding, walking, fasting, eating appropriately, sleeping really well.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Financially I'm doing okay. You know. It's it's always rough
- 35:41Speaker 1: in the business I'm in, because you just never know anything. Intellectually,
- 35:45Speaker 1: I continuing to push myself. Every day. I do a
- 35:48Speaker 1: daily reading out of Tony Robbins and I have a
- 35:51Speaker 1: little discussion on it. I'm doing the Doctor Elliott Harvard
- 35:54Speaker 1: Classics daily reading. I try to I try to keep up,
- 36:00Speaker 1: you know. I just finished the Iliad again in the Odyssey,
- 36:02Speaker 1: just finished Great Expectations, a standard joke. I expected more, okay,
- 36:07Speaker 1: ha ha, but thank you, and it means a lot.
- 36:11Speaker 1: I feel at almost sixty nine, I'll be seventy. After
- 36:15Speaker 1: almost sixty nine and seventy right around the corner, I
- 36:18Speaker 1: feel like I look better and feel better than it
- 36:20Speaker 1: did in my fifties, which is an important thing. My
- 36:24Speaker 1: friend Rayan told me years ago that the twenties are
- 36:26Speaker 1: better than the teens. The thirties are so much better
- 36:29Speaker 1: than the twenties. The forties are better in the thirties,
- 36:32Speaker 1: and I'm here to say that. Weirdly, in my case,
- 36:35Speaker 1: my sixties are better in my fifties. Thank you. There's
- 36:40Speaker 1: nothing fancy in the world as supplements or anything else.
- 36:44Speaker 1: In fact, I'm a big believer that taking some of
- 36:48Speaker 1: the drugs that people in my age cohort take actually work,
- 36:51Speaker 1: opposite of which you would think. You know, there's a
- 36:54Speaker 1: certain set of drugs that leave you bald and broken,
- 36:57Speaker 1: and I'm glad I don't do those, but thank you
- 37:01Speaker 1: so much. In other words, if you get ABF two
- 37:05Speaker 1: and you read the section on I think I call
- 37:07Speaker 1: it Poor Danny's longevity program or something like that. Nothing fancy.
- 37:12Speaker 1: I did mention supplements, and I gotta be full candidness here, Okay,
- 37:16Speaker 1: so let me tell you what I do. My first
- 37:18Speaker 1: cup of coffee in the morning from Costco, I use
- 37:21Speaker 1: their collagen, the one that's got the prebiotics. And I
- 37:24Speaker 1: don't even know what that means anymore, but I do
- 37:26Speaker 1: one scoop of collagen. And the reason I take that
- 37:29Speaker 1: is because Nicholas over Psio Physiogenics says that it's good
- 37:34Speaker 1: for your skin. And I got to tell you, I
- 37:36Speaker 1: think it's helped that little test you, the snapback test,
- 37:39Speaker 1: is miles better for me than it used to be.
- 37:42Speaker 1: And then I just drink coffee somewhere in the morning.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I do drink a serving of meta mucil and creatin.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Now I didn't. I didn't take creatin ever. I never
- 37:55Speaker 1: agreed with me and I know why now because the
- 37:58Speaker 1: early creatin said, wait to my shirt they had sugar nail.
- 38:01Speaker 1: But my brain concussion guy told me that's really a
- 38:04Speaker 1: good idea for me to get back on creatin for
- 38:08Speaker 1: my concussion issues. So it's caffeine with collagen, coffee and collagen,
- 38:15Speaker 1: metamucil and creatin. Those would be the supplements I take.
- 38:20Speaker 1: I also take oh when I do have a bottle hair,
- 38:23Speaker 1: I do take hibernate every night, and that has zinc
- 38:26Speaker 1: and magnesium and just a whiff of melowtonin over it.
- 38:31Speaker 1: It's a little bit harder and harder. Fine Hibernate is
- 38:36Speaker 1: a hibernate. I can't read it. Oh, hibernation lab dot com.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Tell me or my friend and ask for a discount.
- 38:44Speaker 1: They if you get a chance to read their blog
- 38:47Speaker 1: there they talk about easy strength, original strength, easy walking,
- 38:52Speaker 1: and sleep. And I'm like, I love, I mean, I
- 38:55Speaker 1: just they nail it on what's important. So if you're
- 38:59Speaker 1: going to say that I take supplements in a sense.
- 39:01Speaker 1: I take zm A in a whiff of melatonin every night.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I guess creatin is a supplement. You know. Collagen comes
- 39:09Speaker 1: from bone marrow, creatin comes from muscle. Yeah, there's supplements,
- 39:13Speaker 1: but they're you know, it's not like supplements, you know.
- 39:16Speaker 1: But so it's interesting. As I stopped. Before I stop,
- 39:20Speaker 1: I just want to make sure I emphasize one thing.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I put this on my skin. I put this on
- 39:24Speaker 1: my skin. I use this because it helps with my skin.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I take collagen because of my skin. You know, I
- 39:30Speaker 1: sauna and when I sauna, I have a little scrubrush
- 39:33Speaker 1: I use. I'm just starting to think that something I
- 39:36Speaker 1: learned as a kid. Skin is the largest organ in
- 39:39Speaker 1: your body, and if your skin is healthy, that's a
- 39:41Speaker 1: good sign that good things are happening otherwise elsewhere inside
- 39:45Speaker 1: your body. Paul, I hope that helped, and it's just
- 39:47Speaker 1: an honor. Maybe I can reprint that poor Danny's longevity
- 39:55Speaker 1: thing somewhere. I know it's on the DJU forum, and
- 40:00Speaker 1: I know it's in the book. I'll have to see
- 40:02Speaker 1: if I've printed it somewhere else. But thank you so much, Paul.
- 40:05Speaker 1: It's an honor, So thank you. Got a question from Ryan. Ryan,
- 40:09Speaker 1: my question for you is how do I do easy
- 40:12Speaker 1: Strength program with only kettlebells. I just finished the armor
- 40:16Speaker 1: building formula using double twenty kettlebell bells. I'm forty four
- 40:20Speaker 1: years old, five to seven, about one hundred and thirty
- 40:23Speaker 1: six pounds, soaking wet. I have double bells at the
- 40:26Speaker 1: twenty four and single twenty eight kilos. I have a
- 40:29Speaker 1: pull up and dip station and a belt that I
- 40:32Speaker 1: can tie a kettlebelt to it. Listen. So in the
- 40:35Speaker 1: book at Dan Johnuniversity dot com slast bookstore, go get
- 40:40Speaker 1: Easy Strength omnibook, and I have an entire chapter on it. Now.
- 40:45Speaker 1: The only problem with this is, Ryan, it is really
- 40:47Speaker 1: hard to make easy Strength work perfectly with kettlebells because
- 40:52Speaker 1: you don't have those minor jumps. Here. With your double twenties,
- 40:56Speaker 1: double twenty four, single, twenty twenty eight and thirty two,
- 41:00Speaker 1: you should be okay. But the exercises you're gonna do
- 41:03Speaker 1: are military press double kettlebell front squats. You know what's
- 41:08Speaker 1: funny is with those double twenty fours you can up
- 41:11Speaker 1: the reps and do double kettlebell deadlifts. A Turkish get
- 41:16Speaker 1: up and then either a swing or snatch finisher. So
- 41:20Speaker 1: with the snatch you probably don't want to do more
- 41:22Speaker 1: than twenty to forty reps a day. With the swing,
- 41:25Speaker 1: seventy five reps a workout, you know, five sets of
- 41:27Speaker 1: fifteen or something like that. The issue comes from it's goldilocks.
- 41:32Speaker 1: The goldilocks is the issue. You know, goldilocks. This one's
- 41:35Speaker 1: too light, this one's too heavy, this one's just right.
- 41:39Speaker 1: With easy strength with kettlebells, very often you find yourself,
- 41:42Speaker 1: this is too heavy, but I don't have an option
- 41:46Speaker 1: for this is just right. And not that that's a
- 41:48Speaker 1: bad thing, but that's just the way it goes. Okay,
- 41:51Speaker 1: thank you, great question. Michael says this. I watched the
- 41:54Speaker 1: video of you doing your new workout with the folks
- 41:57Speaker 1: in Australia. At one point you remarked that you had
- 42:00Speaker 1: develop diastasis rectee. Now somebody else said that I never
- 42:04Speaker 1: remember the name of it in your abdominum and that
- 42:07Speaker 1: you had knitted it back together during the exercise you
- 42:09Speaker 1: were demonstrating. Would you talk more about this? What I
- 42:13Speaker 1: knitted together was my nervous system on how to straighten, strengthen,
- 42:18Speaker 1: how to come back up on things. So but we'll
- 42:20Speaker 1: come back to this. I've got the same problem. I've
- 42:23Speaker 1: already done it on another episode I can go back
- 42:26Speaker 1: to if you remember which one. So so, oh gosh,
- 42:30Speaker 1: it was a while ago I was taking at beakroom
- 42:32Speaker 1: and yoga class. And by the way, folks, you know,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I liked the yoga class, the hot yoga classes. I
- 42:39Speaker 1: remember the first time I showed up and the woman goes,
- 42:42Speaker 1: you lift weights, and she said, Beakrim got the medal
- 42:45Speaker 1: in the Olympics in weightlifting, and I said, no, he didn't,
- 42:50Speaker 1: because you know, as an Olympic lifter, you kind of
- 42:53Speaker 1: know these things. And it was really an interesting conversation
- 42:56Speaker 1: because you know, you know, obviously Beaker's been a little
- 43:01Speaker 1: bit discredited. But I was doing one of their positions
- 43:04Speaker 1: and I was back here like this, and I was struggling,
- 43:06Speaker 1: and the instructor came up and she put her hands
- 43:09Speaker 1: on my shoulders here and pressed me back and I
- 43:15Speaker 1: had an umbellica hernia pop up right then in real time.
- 43:20Speaker 1: So I that was fascinating, and so I got my
- 43:24Speaker 1: umbelica hernia fixed. The problem was there was more damage.
- 43:29Speaker 1: I remember one time I was at a thing with
- 43:31Speaker 1: Grey Cook and Brett Jones, and Greg Cook said, why
- 43:36Speaker 1: do all you guys, all you lifters have diastasis RECTI
- 43:40Speaker 1: because we all seem to have had that little where
- 43:42Speaker 1: the middle of your stomach pops up. Well, I didn't
- 43:45Speaker 1: get the surgery to fix that, but taking Tim Anderson's
- 43:48Speaker 1: pro reset, so that's the original strength course, so that
- 43:51Speaker 1: I can I can do an assessment on you, okay,
- 43:54Speaker 1: which is I think is really great. We were doing
- 43:57Speaker 1: this new style, so you make a triple chin, you
- 44:01Speaker 1: put your chin on your shoulders. I'm on my back
- 44:03Speaker 1: and then what you do is you just kind of
- 44:05Speaker 1: I call them reverse cobers. You it's not a set up.
- 44:09Speaker 1: You row yourself up. What I had noticed was when
- 44:13Speaker 1: I was first doing it, the middle of my stomach
- 44:16Speaker 1: tinted like this, right up the middle like that. So
- 44:19Speaker 1: I put my hands on my stomach and I started
- 44:22Speaker 1: to breathe. Now an important thing if you're gonna do
- 44:26Speaker 1: I'm gonna this is really interesting. I'm just learned this
- 44:28Speaker 1: from Erica. This is from a pelvic floor a physical therapist.
- 44:32Speaker 1: When you're on your back doing these movements and you're
- 44:35Speaker 1: trying to breath, what I'm doing it here for you,
- 44:38Speaker 1: and you're trying to breathe in deep. Try to push
- 44:41Speaker 1: your back into the ground with your breath, so your
- 44:46Speaker 1: big breath. You try to push your back into the
- 44:49Speaker 1: ground hard and spread the load out. And then I
- 44:53Speaker 1: looked down and that tinting had disappeared once I showed
- 44:59Speaker 1: Once my bo and I figured out how to do this,
- 45:03Speaker 1: it seemed to have stopped. Now for me to show
- 45:06Speaker 1: it off at a at a at a workshop to
- 45:08Speaker 1: show that diastasis popping up again. I actually have to
- 45:13Speaker 1: do it wrong and rethink it. I have to kind
- 45:17Speaker 1: of breathe wrong and do a few things wrong. And
- 45:20Speaker 1: I don't like doing it. I'm trying to teach as
- 45:23Speaker 1: i'm doing it, you know, but I don't like doing it.
- 45:26Speaker 1: So I so I fixed it by going to a workshop,
- 45:30Speaker 1: discovering the problem, changing my breathing slightly. But the thing is,
- 45:34Speaker 1: I hope I don't know if you can see this,
- 45:36Speaker 1: but I have my hand on it so I can
- 45:39Speaker 1: feel it when it's wrong. Now. The other interesting thing
- 45:41Speaker 1: is the more I do that, the more my six
- 45:45Speaker 1: pack shows up when I when I when I kind
- 45:48Speaker 1: of do different things. So I'm I'm extremely excited and Michael,
- 45:53Speaker 1: thank you for the clarification. Next time I do a
- 45:56Speaker 1: video like this, Michael, first off, I want you to
- 45:58Speaker 1: be there, but I'll do my best to show that
- 46:02Speaker 1: in real time and how this happens. Okay, this might
- 46:06Speaker 1: make another little good blurb video. So thank you, Thank
- 46:10Speaker 1: good question. Much appreciated, Lane, Lane, Lane. He was a
- 46:14Speaker 1: great friend of mine of blessed memory. I am a
- 46:17Speaker 1: thirty year old in a tactical profession. My home gym
- 46:21Speaker 1: is mostly fixed, mostly things with fixed weights, such as
- 46:25Speaker 1: kettlebells and sandbags. I like using these items as it
- 46:29Speaker 1: makes me feel like I'm improving that brute strength and
- 46:31Speaker 1: anaconda strength. Love it. What guidance can you give when
- 46:35Speaker 1: programming with these items. I understand that percentages can't be used,
- 46:39Speaker 1: but also neither can small increases in wait, I know
- 46:42Speaker 1: that's either a good or bad advantage. I'm also not
- 46:45Speaker 1: sure if easy strength is the right answer, because what
- 46:49Speaker 1: if I can do ten reps of exercise with a
- 46:51Speaker 1: certain win, but I can't do one with the next one?
- 46:55Speaker 1: Is it okay to do eleven reps? Or the ghost
- 46:57Speaker 1: of Dan John Past visit me in my sleep? Okay?
- 47:01Speaker 1: So most of you, probably listeners, have never trained with
- 47:06Speaker 1: fixed weights. But when I was young, that was the norm.
- 47:11Speaker 1: You go to a you go to you know, Bob
- 47:14Speaker 1: Spa in South San Francisco or the Lions Club and
- 47:18Speaker 1: they had a little spa or the whatever, the golf
- 47:21Speaker 1: they would all have just fixed weights. So it was
- 47:23Speaker 1: fixed dumbbells. There was a twenty, a twenty five or thirtieth,
- 47:26Speaker 1: you know, all the way up fixed bar bells with
- 47:28Speaker 1: many of you wouldn't believe, but I trained with them
- 47:31Speaker 1: as a kid. You know, you'd walk over to the
- 47:33Speaker 1: rack of barbells and there was an eighty pounder. You'd
- 47:36Speaker 1: pick it up. Oh, and then you'd walk over with
- 47:38Speaker 1: it and you'd put it on the ground and you'd
- 47:40Speaker 1: do your cleaning press or your curl whatever, and you
- 47:42Speaker 1: pick it up and you walk it back. And I
- 47:45Speaker 1: got to tell you, their real training came from picking
- 47:47Speaker 1: it the wight out of the rack because they were
- 47:50Speaker 1: always put in vertically. He had to pick it up
- 47:53Speaker 1: and carry it like a kind of like a caber
- 47:55Speaker 1: and flip it and put it down. Maybe that's why
- 47:57Speaker 1: I was good in the cabra. But the upside of
- 48:00Speaker 1: if all you have is this is that you can
- 48:02Speaker 1: build some great ideas. I'm going to bring you back
- 48:05Speaker 1: to Auto Arco. Now you know who Auto Arco, even
- 48:08Speaker 1: if you don't know he is. He was Rodin or
- 48:11Speaker 1: Rodin's model for the thinker and smether things and all
- 48:16Speaker 1: he had was a body weight barbell. So he weighed
- 48:20Speaker 1: sixty kilos one hundred and thirty two pounds and only
- 48:22Speaker 1: had it was one hundred and thirty two pound bar
- 48:25Speaker 1: So what you do with it is this, and Solaine
- 48:27Speaker 1: and anybody else who wants to try this, it's kind
- 48:29Speaker 1: of fun. You get yourself your fixed weight, and so
- 48:32Speaker 1: it's too heavy the first time you try anything. So
- 48:34Speaker 1: it's too heavy, so you just can deadlift it. Okay,
- 48:37Speaker 1: So you deadlifted for six weeks. At the end of
- 48:40Speaker 1: the six weeks, you're up to twenty reps in the deadlift. Ah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: that's too easy. So now I'm going to clean it.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Then you clean it. You only get one rip to
- 48:49Speaker 1: six weeks later, you're cleaning it with ease. Now I'm
- 48:52Speaker 1: gonna try to clean. I can't press it, but I
- 48:54Speaker 1: can jerk it, so you jerk it pretty soon. You
- 48:57Speaker 1: don't need is to split your legs. Pretty soon you're
- 49:00Speaker 1: just push tracking it. Pretty soon, you're push pressing it.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Pretty soon, you're pressing it. Pretty soon, you're pressing it
- 49:07Speaker 1: twenty reps. It's too light, and then you put it
- 49:10Speaker 1: in the ground and say, well, now what am I
- 49:11Speaker 1: gonna do with it? Well, you put it up on
- 49:13Speaker 1: one side and you try to do a single arm press. Well,
- 49:15Speaker 1: that's too heavy. But if I use both hens, I
- 49:18Speaker 1: can put it over my head. Oh now what do
- 49:21Speaker 1: you do? Well, you can do a turkish get up
- 49:22Speaker 1: with it, you can walk with it, or you can
- 49:24Speaker 1: just stand there and have a bunch of photographs taken
- 49:27Speaker 1: of yourself. That's how you progress with fixed weights. You
- 49:31Speaker 1: keep you keep playing around with the idea, and the
- 49:35Speaker 1: idea is always what is a harder, more complex, more
- 49:38Speaker 1: difficult way to lift this load. You say you have kettlebells, Well,
- 49:44Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I hope you can deadlift your kettlebells. Okay,
- 49:47Speaker 1: you deadlift your kettlebells. Then you move into that two handed,
- 49:51Speaker 1: clean your gobble, squat your kettlebells, and then pretty soon
- 49:54Speaker 1: that's too easy, and then you clean your kettlebells. Then
- 49:57Speaker 1: you do that whole press. You know, jerk depressed thing.
- 50:00Speaker 1: I told you. Then later, with that same kettlebell, you
- 50:02Speaker 1: do a turkers get up with it. There you go,
- 50:05Speaker 1: and don't worry about getting your reps up high. You're
- 50:09Speaker 1: going to find with you know, fixed weights, that it's
- 50:15Speaker 1: real natural to go higher reps. Lane. You know, he
- 50:19Speaker 1: actually got me enthusiastic about fixed weights. There is something magical.
- 50:24Speaker 1: I remember, Oh gosh, this is a long time ago,
- 50:28Speaker 1: but there was a time where all I had was
- 50:32Speaker 1: a bar bell with one hundred and sixty five pounds.
- 50:34Speaker 1: I had two thirty five pound plates and two twenty
- 50:37Speaker 1: five pound plates. Because that's all I had. I invented
- 50:40Speaker 1: tabata front squats. I invented my transformation program from those
- 50:44Speaker 1: I trained for Olympic lifting meats, where I opened with
- 50:48Speaker 1: three hundred and eight pounds one hundred and forty kilos,
- 50:50Speaker 1: only training with the one hundred and sixty five pounds. Well,
- 50:53Speaker 1: why because that's what I had. Later, when I moved
- 50:56Speaker 1: to California, all I had was a twenty eight kilo kettlebell.
- 51:00Speaker 1: So what did I do. I trained with the twenty
- 51:02Speaker 1: eight kilo kettlebell and I made great progress. So you know,
- 51:07Speaker 1: and I remember years ago saying, you know, if somebody
- 51:10Speaker 1: stuck me in a room and all I had was
- 51:11Speaker 1: a sixteen kilo kettlebell and lots of time, and you
- 51:16Speaker 1: had there was some like if I get to this,
- 51:19Speaker 1: I get to be freed man, I would make amazing
- 51:22Speaker 1: progress with is a sixteen kilo bell. You know, I'm
- 51:25Speaker 1: going to invent a phrase. I want you rite down ready,
- 51:28Speaker 1: if there's a will, there's a way. I just invented them.
- 51:31Speaker 1: For those you who don't understand my sense of humor,
- 51:33Speaker 1: that was an attempt at humor. That's how you progress.
- 51:37Speaker 1: You progress with fixed weights through exercise selection and reps.
- 51:43Speaker 1: You know, if you have all you have is a
- 51:45Speaker 1: four hundred pound fixed barbell and you get up to
- 51:48Speaker 1: twenty turkish get ups with it both sides, twenty left,
- 51:52Speaker 1: twenty right, then call me and I'll buy you a
- 51:55Speaker 1: five hundred pound fixed barbel. Okay, great question, and I
- 51:58Speaker 1: hope that I gave you some value. Thank you. Okay,
- 52:01Speaker 1: we got a question from Noah. I have been playing
- 52:03Speaker 1: with the kettlebell for a decade and now he's thirty seven.
- 52:07Speaker 1: I've done the Rite of Passage and the ten k
- 52:09Speaker 1: challenge twice using my fifty five pound bell, so the
- 52:14Speaker 1: twenty four kilo essentially twenty five man. Otherwise, I've just
- 52:18Speaker 1: incorporated as part of a general mix of calistetics and kettlebells.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I set a goal this year to do the hundred
- 52:24Speaker 1: snatches in five minutes. That made me consider whether getting
- 52:27Speaker 1: a certification would be worth doing. I'm not looking to
- 52:31Speaker 1: start a gym, but I'd like to be able to
- 52:33Speaker 1: point to something that says this isn't a self taught
- 52:36Speaker 1: idiot inventing their own stuff. Noah, I hope I do
- 52:40Speaker 1: ASSERT this year, and I hope you're one of the
- 52:42Speaker 1: people there. I want you to reach out to the
- 52:44Speaker 1: RKC my friend Marcus and say bring Dan John in
- 52:48Speaker 1: for ASSERT, because Noah, you're the guy I want to teach.
- 52:51Speaker 1: What if any kettlebell certifications are worth earning and paying for? Listen.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I think the RKC is still valuable thing. I mean,
- 52:58Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. With the new way they're
- 53:02Speaker 1: doing it, I don't know. I mean, I'm part I'm
- 53:05Speaker 1: helping as best I can. I mean, I'm a big
- 53:08Speaker 1: fan of the people involved, but there is something important
- 53:13Speaker 1: about sitting in a room for two three days with
- 53:17Speaker 1: a group of other people with people who've been there
- 53:20Speaker 1: before teaching you. Listen, this is something that in nineteen
- 53:24Speaker 1: ninety three, I'm just gonna I was at a crossroads
- 53:27Speaker 1: of my athletic career as a discus thrower. I was
- 53:29Speaker 1: still throwing far, you know, in training I got up
- 53:33Speaker 1: to sixty two meters and I got up just to
- 53:36Speaker 1: about two hundred and ten feet in a training session.
- 53:39Speaker 1: Just before this time, I was throwing far. Every meet
- 53:43Speaker 1: I went to, it was a snowstorm or a tailwind.
- 53:45Speaker 1: It was so frustrating, you know, I was throwing fifty
- 53:48Speaker 1: five fifty four meters and meats. And I just sat
- 53:52Speaker 1: down with Tiffany a blessed memory. We had to at
- 53:55Speaker 1: the time. We had a one year old and a
- 53:58Speaker 1: three year old, and I said, you know, it's either
- 54:00Speaker 1: a pooper kid off the horse here, you know, and
- 54:02Speaker 1: I don't know what that phrase means. And so Tiffany,
- 54:05Speaker 1: you know, she was like, let's look into it. And
- 54:07Speaker 1: so I flew out to Columbus, Ohio. I drove the
- 54:11Speaker 1: thirty one miles to Detison University, and I, you know,
- 54:16Speaker 1: became a student at the John Powell Discus Camp. I
- 54:20Speaker 1: was older than most of the counselors and I loved it,
- 54:23Speaker 1: and of course at the end, John hired me for
- 54:25Speaker 1: the next year to be the head coach. A couple
- 54:27Speaker 1: of years ago, I went to another discus camp. Listen, tolks,
- 54:31Speaker 1: I've thrown the discus a long ways. Yet every time
- 54:34Speaker 1: I go to a discus camp, or a discus workshop
- 54:37Speaker 1: or a thing I learned things. I will be at
- 54:41Speaker 1: a meeting a high school coach will be talking about
- 54:43Speaker 1: how he teaches his kids the throws. I'll recognize some
- 54:47Speaker 1: of it. I'll know this, and then there'll be this
- 54:49Speaker 1: one point that just completely flips my switch. Makes me
- 54:52Speaker 1: want to call every one of my discus stores ever
- 54:54Speaker 1: in my career and say, I'm so sorry, we should
- 54:57Speaker 1: have done this. That's why you go to these things,
- 54:59Speaker 1: you know. I read things online and you know, listen,
- 55:02Speaker 1: I know a lot of people think I'm full of myself,
- 55:04Speaker 1: and it's probably true. If you ever step into the
- 55:06Speaker 1: ring at the Nationals, when they call your name at
- 55:09Speaker 1: the Nationals, Dan, you know, Dan, John up, you better
- 55:14Speaker 1: have some confidence when they're at the Pleasant and Highland
- 55:16Speaker 1: Games and they you know, and it comes time for
- 55:18Speaker 1: you and the you know twenty six thousand people are
- 55:21Speaker 1: chanting you better have some self confidence, and I wish
- 55:25Speaker 1: I had more. Actually, but I'll go online, I'll read
- 55:27Speaker 1: these people and I'll just talk about how well you
- 55:31Speaker 1: know this is worthless. I know this. I know that.
- 55:34Speaker 1: The moment you have the self satisfaction and think you
- 55:37Speaker 1: know it all, you know nothing. It's the old thing
- 55:41Speaker 1: you know. It's called the circle of what you know.
- 55:44Speaker 1: So if the circle of what you know, everything you
- 55:46Speaker 1: know is inside the circle, everything you don't know is
- 55:49Speaker 1: out there. Well, everywhere you touch is where you know
- 55:55Speaker 1: what you don't know. As I get studying more and
- 55:58Speaker 1: more and read more and more classics, more and more movies,
- 56:00Speaker 1: talk to more and more people, my circle grows, or
- 56:04Speaker 1: what I know grows more and more and more. Sadly,
- 56:07Speaker 1: what also grows. What I don't know grabs grows more
- 56:13Speaker 1: and more and more. And as I learn more, I'm
- 56:16Speaker 1: also gonna know that I don't know more. And as
- 56:18Speaker 1: you shrink that's I know this. I know everything about
- 56:21Speaker 1: a subject that pretty soon you become a dot and
- 56:25Speaker 1: you don't know nothing there I said it. So yeah,
- 56:28Speaker 1: I'm a big fan. I'm a big fan of you
- 56:30Speaker 1: going to it, and I think if you can do
- 56:34Speaker 1: the hundred snatches with that bell, good for you. But
- 56:37Speaker 1: it's also there's gonna be a hint about the press
- 56:40Speaker 1: or the clean or something that's going to make you go.
- 56:43Speaker 1: I've been spinning my wheels for three years, you know.
- 56:47Speaker 1: Thank you. That is a great question, and thank you. Okay.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Our next question is from Eric. This is fun All
- 56:54Speaker 1: the names are so in the in a row are
- 56:56Speaker 1: friends from my life? Say? Eric says this around a
- 57:02Speaker 1: month ago on a Pat Flynn video. You said you
- 57:05Speaker 1: talked to your barber stylist about hair health and it
- 57:09Speaker 1: started doing something for your hair health. I'm looking for
- 57:12Speaker 1: the next vanity layer on top of my buns and guns.
- 57:16Speaker 1: What was that and do you think it generalizes to
- 57:18Speaker 1: the rest of us? Yes, I do. Relevant for this question.
- 57:21Speaker 1: I'm a forty five year old male with male pattern baldness,
- 57:25Speaker 1: taking oral monoxidial and I've had a fou fu hair transplant,
- 57:33Speaker 1: so I'm looking to PreTect my investment. Well, I got
- 57:37Speaker 1: to tell you, you know, it's funny. Not long ago,
- 57:41Speaker 1: my grand niece said to me that I had a
- 57:43Speaker 1: really tall forehead. She's adopted and so our DNA is different,
- 57:49Speaker 1: which is the most obvious statement I ever made. But
- 57:52Speaker 1: people in my family tend to have this massive forehead.
- 57:56Speaker 1: And then she said, is that because you're balding? And
- 57:58Speaker 1: I said, and course her mother correct him. Your uncle
- 58:02Speaker 1: Danny is not balding. And she goes and she does
- 58:05Speaker 1: think about Grandpa and she went, oh, yeah, he has this.
- 58:08Speaker 1: He looks just like you. I'm like, well, yeah, we're brothers,
- 58:12Speaker 1: you know. And then I lost a lot of hair
- 58:15Speaker 1: back here, which is unusual in my family. I have
- 58:18Speaker 1: a scar back there. But it was bothering me a
- 58:21Speaker 1: little bit, so I took my advice from my hairstyles.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Now I stopped taking She had me on a vitamin.
- 58:27Speaker 1: It's real simple Biotin b I O T I N.
- 58:32Speaker 1: I think it's a b vitamin. If you go to
- 58:34Speaker 1: any supplement store or any just type in online vitamins
- 58:39Speaker 1: for hair hair health, biatin will always be the first
- 58:42Speaker 1: one for me. I have a real line in the
- 58:45Speaker 1: sand when it comes to vitamins. If I notice that
- 58:48Speaker 1: the color of my urine brightens up, that's when I
- 58:51Speaker 1: know I'm really not consuming the vitamin. However, eric I
- 58:56Speaker 1: went through a about three month experiment using it and
- 58:59Speaker 1: it's seem to help me. Now you've already done two
- 59:02Speaker 1: I mean you've already taken two shotguns to it. You're
- 59:06Speaker 1: you're on oral monoxidil and the f U E hair trasp,
- 59:11Speaker 1: so you've already done the shotguns. I mean you you've
- 59:14Speaker 1: already brought out the big arms. Okay, So something as
- 59:19Speaker 1: simple as a as a as a vitamin might not
- 59:23Speaker 1: be helpful for you. Again, I stopped taking it because
- 59:26Speaker 1: of the color of my urine, which is way more
- 59:29Speaker 1: information than you probably needed. But as I noted earlier
- 59:32Speaker 1: in this podcast that I mentioned before, I also started
- 59:36Speaker 1: this is called T Tree Special. I don't I don't
- 59:40Speaker 1: get any money for this, so I bought and I
- 59:42Speaker 1: bought the big bottle. A couple of things about it.
- 59:45Speaker 1: First off, it's a sunscreen, which and as I noted before,
- 59:49Speaker 1: I had had a number of skin cancers. You know,
- 59:52Speaker 1: nice thing about it being a track coach is that
- 59:54Speaker 1: you get you get on the same day you get
- 59:56Speaker 1: a massive sunburn and frozen if you're a track coach
- 59:59Speaker 1: in Utah. So this has a sunscreen on it. And
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the nice thing is if I rub it my hair,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: it sunscreens any areas that are either light, you know,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: maybe less hair my part, and maybe whatever damage is
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: back there, I can't even see it anymore. And I
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: also try to get a little bit on the top
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: of my ears. And then, as I noted earlier, from
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: my gentleman's class, my gentleman class, he always has always
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: have a comb, and then I try to put my
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: hair in a nice place. But what it also does
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: by combing my hair is it also kind of spreads
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: the lotion out. So this has a sunscreen in it.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: It's a moisturizer for both my hair and my skin.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: And I don't know why it happens. I don't think
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: there's any science about what I'm telling you, but moisturizing
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: my skin seemed to really help me. I don't know, man,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: it seems to help me with my hair. I'm sustaining
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: my hair growth. That's all I got to say. I've
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: also noticed that i've as I've kept my as a
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: she's very good. Her name's in that's she lifts weights,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: and she's she's a cancer survivor who lifts waits and
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: so it's kind of interesting to talk to. And it's
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: nothing fancy, but it's it's it's those are. That is
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: a simple thing to do, and weirdly, I do think
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: that combing my hair, I don't think it grows the
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: hair back, but it makes the hair that's there look
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: a little decent. He Again, I'm no fashion icon, but
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I try real hard to take care, you know, at
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: least once a day of you know, of how I
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: look and how I grow them. You know, I think
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: it's important that I think it's important at my age
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: that I want to be as physically fit as I
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: can to live as long as I can for my
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: daughters and grandchildren. I have five grandchildren and I don't
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: think I'm going to have any more. I have two children,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: and I got to tell you that that would be
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: interesting to have more children. Let's just you know, please,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: no one pray for them, but I want to be
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: fit physically for them. So that's why I do the walking,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: the fasting and the other things. Financially, I want to
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: be financially fit for them so that I'm not a
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: burden on them in a few years. And also too,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: I want to look appropriate so that if I look
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: a certain way, it seems it seems that people listen
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: to me better, and that's important for me, for my
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: workshops and just my general interactions with the community at large.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: It's funny I kept looking outside the whole time I
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: was saying that because I was thinking about the community.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Thank you, and I appreciate the kind comment there, and
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: let me know what you think about that. Eric, get
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: back to me on trying the Tea Tree special, okay,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: or whatever one you find. Remember, folks, sunscreen has great value,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: not only long term. It's you know, if you use
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I use oilvl at, but if you use suns every
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: day and lotion every day, hair and face, ears, exposed parts.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: It's just like three hundred and sixty five, three hundred
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: sixty six days a year of eating appropriately, three hundred
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: sixty five days a year, of sleeping appropriately, lifting weights
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: three days a week for fifty two weeks a year.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Not one of those things I said is outrageous or hard.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: But in toto, in total, it's going to make a difference. Okay,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: thank you, I think, and yes it is. That's the
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: end of this podcast. That's a podcast. Three hundred and
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: fifty two is now behind us. I hope you learn something.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: If you have a question, please send it to this
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: address podcast at Dan Johnuniversity dot com. I'm more in
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: an honor to answer your questions and until next time,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: let's all keep on lifting and learning. Thank you,
