- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome does she He's on the Money, the
- 1:00Speaker 1: podcast for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome to our
- 1:06Speaker 1: third birthday special episode of She's on the Money Friday Drinks.
- 1:11Speaker 1: It's live. It's our very first live episode and we
- 1:15Speaker 1: have a whole community here make it sound Thank you
- 1:20Speaker 1: for making it sound like I wasn't pretending, so thank
- 1:24Speaker 1: you for that. We also have a very nervous Jess
- 1:26Speaker 1: and George.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Hello.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Hello. If you keep mentioning their nervous, it makes them
- 1:29Speaker 1: feel better. But as you guys know, Friday means it
- 1:32Speaker 1: is time to kick back, grab a bev which you
- 1:35Speaker 1: literally have in hand this week, have a chat with
- 1:38Speaker 1: our friends about the week's highs, the week's lows, what's
- 1:42Speaker 1: been going on in our community, and we get to
- 1:44Speaker 1: celebrate you quite literally. This entire party was for you, guys.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The incredible She's on the money community never ceases to
- 1:51Speaker 1: amaze me. As always, we're going to share our favorite
- 1:54Speaker 1: money wins and not so many confessions this week, just
- 1:57Speaker 1: one congestion and confession. Is it yours? Oh? Okay, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: we're gonna help answer a few live questions from our community,
- 2:06Speaker 1: literally the ones in the room. Jessica Ricci, Georgia King.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Before we get there, though, how have you been.
- 2:12Speaker 5: We just got back from a flight not too long ago,
- 2:14Speaker 5: so I am very tired and also definitely not nervous
- 2:17Speaker 5: at all. So it's going really well for me.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Georgia King, I'm good.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I'm so excited to be here, so excited to have
- 2:24Speaker 3: you girlies home from Europe. It was a lonely time
- 2:27Speaker 3: without you, and yeah, I'm just really sweaty but excited
- 2:30Speaker 3: to be here.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm glad. We're really just vibing on this sweaty mess.
- 2:33Speaker 1: My mum always says like, you're not sweating, darling, you're listening.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, no problems. But Jess, George, we usually
- 2:41Speaker 1: start each and every single week by recapping the shows
- 2:43Speaker 1: that were, but we're not going to do that this
- 2:44Speaker 1: week because you guys, we handpicked you to be here.
- 2:48Speaker 1: You all seem like She's on the Money ogs, you
- 2:50Speaker 1: know what's going on. But what we are going to
- 2:53Speaker 1: do is answer some live questions. But before we get there,
- 2:57Speaker 1: Georgia King, what has been going on in the She's
- 3:00Speaker 1: on the Money community this week?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Jess, I think that's your domain. If I'm mistakee no,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you go, my girl. Oh So we're gonna have a
- 3:07Speaker 3: little chat. We meant, we meant, Jess, we're changed going.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Well.
- 3:10Speaker 5: Somebody came up to me before and was like, I'm
- 3:12Speaker 5: so sorry. I know your voices, I don't know your
- 3:14Speaker 5: faces and you just saw Georgia, and I was like,
- 3:16Speaker 5: it's so fine, are you George?
- 3:18Speaker 1: And then do really naughty things I should have.
- 3:20Speaker 5: But we're gonna have a little chat about some things
- 3:22Speaker 5: that we've been seeing a lot of people talking about
- 3:24Speaker 5: in the community recently. Obviously, as I said, we've just
- 3:28Speaker 5: come home. Cost of living has been on a lot
- 3:30Speaker 5: of people's minds, and I was shocked when I got
- 3:33Speaker 5: off the plane. I trove to the airport on empty
- 3:36Speaker 5: because that's who I am as a person.
- 3:38Speaker 1: She gives me mad anxiety, like it's flashing at her
- 3:41Speaker 1: and I'm like, you're gonna break down on the freeway, Jessica,
- 3:43Speaker 1: She's like, now, I've been here before. It's not even
- 3:45Speaker 1: that bad.
- 3:45Speaker 5: The light is just there to let you know that
- 3:47Speaker 5: it's nearly time. So I parked at the airport. Obviously
- 3:50Speaker 5: had to fill up at the airport gas station on
- 3:52Speaker 5: the way home, and I nearly cried when I saw
- 3:54Speaker 5: it was two dollus twenty e liter. I think it
- 3:56Speaker 5: was maybe at one eighty when we left, So definitely
- 3:59Speaker 5: feel it there. Also, apparently Lettuce is super exciting.
- 4:04Speaker 1: We've come home to Lettuce being really expensive. And we
- 4:06Speaker 1: saw this on Instagram because obviously, like we said, we
- 4:09Speaker 1: were on holiday and we were like, we're really uncontactable.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Please don't talk to us. Sorry, I are in, but
- 4:15Speaker 1: we just can't talk while we're on holiday. We holiday
- 4:18Speaker 1: and like jess and I are in the Facebook group
- 4:19Speaker 1: every day, be like did you see these? Yeah, so
- 4:22Speaker 1: we're like talking about it, and people were talking about lettus.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I'm like, this is wild. But I went down to
- 4:25Speaker 1: my local calls and I was like, thirteen dollars for
- 4:27Speaker 1: an iceberg? I think not, We're going to go back
- 4:30Speaker 1: to frozen spinach dollar eighty a packet just as.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Good, just as good.
- 4:36Speaker 5: And I think the thing that a lot of people
- 4:37Speaker 5: are stressing about is obviously inflation is kind of hitting
- 4:40Speaker 5: all of us at the moment. We're all feeling it
- 4:42Speaker 5: across the board, from utilities to groceries and all those
- 4:45Speaker 5: kinds of things. And a lot of people in the
- 4:48Speaker 5: Facebook group have been asking is it gonna get worse?
- 4:51Speaker 5: Can we expect it to continue? Should we be preparing?
- 4:54Speaker 5: Do I need to start growing my own lettuces?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Like?
- 4:57Speaker 4: What do I do?
- 4:57Speaker 1: I mean you could? Do you have enough room at
- 4:59Speaker 1: your place?
- 5:00Speaker 5: No?
- 5:00Speaker 4: My backout is one meter deep, So.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Okay, so not an option. Yeah, look, that's a pretty
- 5:05Speaker 1: blunt question. Is it going to get worse? Let's be honest.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I sorry to bring this party wiped out. Yeah it is.
- 5:11Speaker 1: We're headed for a recession. It was announced mid June
- 5:14Speaker 1: that we're officially in a recession. Oh no, sorry, that
- 5:17Speaker 1: was draw romantic. We're officially in a bear market. So
- 5:22Speaker 1: a bear market, yes, literally, it does mean bear as
- 5:25Speaker 1: in the animal. It's not some technical term or acronym.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It is quite literally the animal. But a bear market
- 5:32Speaker 1: officially is when the share market is down by twenty
- 5:35Speaker 1: percent from its twelve month average high. That can be
- 5:39Speaker 1: really scary for investors. It can be really scary for
- 5:41Speaker 1: our community to be honest as an advisor, as someone
- 5:44Speaker 1: who's quite literally obsessed with shares and research and data,
- 5:47Speaker 1: like we knew this was coming. It doesn't make it
- 5:51Speaker 1: any easier to swallow because it is really hard. But
- 5:54Speaker 1: I guess inflation is a really good indicator of that.
- 5:58Speaker 1: As that increases, it's very good indicator that we're in
- 6:01Speaker 1: the shed markets probably not doing as well as it could.
- 6:04Speaker 1: We've obviously had a lot of like tumultuous times over COVID.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean Australia was here really hard as well with
- 6:10Speaker 1: the bushfires before COVID. And then we also now have
- 6:15Speaker 1: your Russia invading Ukraine which is stopping a lot of
- 6:19Speaker 1: export and global economies actually functioning properly. So we are,
- 6:23Speaker 1: according to Victoria divine already in one, but according to economists,
- 6:28Speaker 1: not in one yet, but headed towards one. That sounds
- 6:31Speaker 1: like a bit of a downer. But the thing I
- 6:33Speaker 1: love about this conversation is I guess that this isn't
- 6:37Speaker 1: our first time seeing our first rodeo. My friends, we've
- 6:40Speaker 1: been here before. The importance here is on saving and
- 6:43Speaker 1: making sure we have good emergency funds and that we know,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and we talk about financial literacy. It is going to
- 6:48Speaker 1: put a lot of pressure on us, but I mean,
- 6:51Speaker 1: we need to just be smart. We're talking about asparagus before,
- 6:54Speaker 1: pretty cheap option, much cheaper at the moment than I
- 6:57Speaker 1: spurk lists.
- 6:58Speaker 4: So thrilling party conversation happen money.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I think they were happy to talk about asparagus because
- 7:05Speaker 1: usually I'm like, so, do you want to talk about
- 7:06Speaker 1: the beer market? Not really? Not really what content all
- 7:10Speaker 1: you're posting? Can it be peach?
- 7:12Speaker 3: It's an exciting place to start their recession chat, guys,
- 7:16Speaker 3: I'm afraid.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I mean it's corna by rogue, but that's okay. Do
- 7:20Speaker 1: you want to do you want to carry on? Just
- 7:22Speaker 1: anything else that you would like to say before we
- 7:24Speaker 1: get into our budget direct money wins.
- 7:25Speaker 4: No, I think. Let's bring the mood up a little.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Let's bring the mood up. Let's get into guys. In
- 7:29Speaker 1: official podcast format, it is time for our budget direct
- 7:33Speaker 1: money wins of the week. Georgia King Jeeking on tour.
- 7:37Speaker 1: What have you got for us?
- 7:39Speaker 3: I've got some pearlers as usual, guys. The first win
- 7:42Speaker 3: of the week comes from Shell Money Win. I recently
- 7:45Speaker 3: got to pay rise of eighty dollars a fortnight, but
- 7:48Speaker 3: instead of spending the extra cash frivolously, I increased my
- 7:52Speaker 3: fortnightly mortgage repayments by eighty dollars.
- 7:54Speaker 1: No longer here.
- 7:56Speaker 3: That is very smart ten discipline. We love to see it.
- 8:00Speaker 3: The next win comes from Rihanna money whin. I recently
- 8:03Speaker 3: started a new job inter state and they offered a
- 8:06Speaker 3: three thousand, five hundred dollars reimbursement award to pay it
- 8:10Speaker 3: for my moving costs, which included petrol, it included food,
- 8:13Speaker 3: it included accommodation while her fiance and her were moving
- 8:17Speaker 3: from her home state to her new state.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I feel like that's not a usual thing.
- 8:21Speaker 1: No, that's a lot of money as well. I mean,
- 8:24Speaker 1: moving costs are a lot. I moved to me recently,
- 8:28Speaker 1: very offended.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean I kind of want to work
- 8:31Speaker 3: for Rihanna's place.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Oh do you a little do they're hiring?
- 8:35Speaker 3: Yeah, ah, they're hiring. Okay, move on, love your talk.
- 8:39Speaker 3: The next win here is from Imagen. I finally got
- 8:41Speaker 3: my emergency fund to crack one thousand dollars and rewarded
- 8:44Speaker 3: myself by buying some additional shares. Very she's on the
- 8:47Speaker 3: money of her such as she's.
- 8:49Speaker 1: On the money reward like most people like. Oh my god,
- 8:51Speaker 1: So I went out and blew all my money on champagne.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Cough me, but I rewarded myself with some shares. Girl,
- 8:58Speaker 1: you have got it more together than we do.
- 9:00Speaker 3: We also wrote that it's the first time she's ever
- 9:01Speaker 3: had a savings account with over one thousand.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Dollars, so incredible. I love that.
- 9:06Speaker 3: The next one here is from Casey. Just this one
- 9:09Speaker 3: reminded me of you. She's very organized. We can all
- 9:11Speaker 3: take some tips away from this one money win. I've
- 9:14Speaker 3: been trying to get ahead on Christmas shopping, and today
- 9:17Speaker 3: I went into a lotion slash soap shop and they
- 9:20Speaker 3: were having a huge sale where the things were fifty
- 9:23Speaker 3: to seventy five percent off.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Did she say what the company wants just lotion slash soap.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Who says that, I don't know. God, sexy Land that's
- 9:33Speaker 1: what she's talking about, right, Well, hold on a minute.
- 9:36Speaker 3: She said that she's so excited because she saved ninety
- 9:38Speaker 3: dollars and she's going to collate all of this for
- 9:40Speaker 3: her coworker is later on in the year, mate, So
- 9:42Speaker 3: not sexy Land is what we're saying.
- 9:44Speaker 1: That she gives really inappropriate gifts. I feel like I
- 9:48Speaker 1: love context. You know her money wins, so feel free
- 9:50Speaker 1: if you're boasting to give me as much as possible.
- 9:53Speaker 3: The next one here, guys, is a long one, but
- 9:55Speaker 3: it's a good one, so bear with me. It is
- 9:57Speaker 3: from Eileen. So yesterday, my partner and I accidentally locked
- 10:02Speaker 3: ourselves out of the house after a rushed exit. We
- 10:05Speaker 3: called a locksmith and it was going to cost one
- 10:07Speaker 3: hundred and eighty dollars for them to get us in.
- 10:09Speaker 3: No thanks. We decided to leave it and go out
- 10:12Speaker 3: to dinner. This is the unnecessary detail.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Like how they solve problems like I do, oh got
- 10:16Speaker 1: a problem, let's going out for dinner.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I was going out to dinner booking as our friends
- 10:21Speaker 3: flew up from Sydney to catch up with us in Brisbane.
- 10:23Speaker 1: That's the detail we love.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Over this dinner, she told us she'd actually picked a
- 10:28Speaker 3: lock before and that with a bit of patience, bit
- 10:30Speaker 3: of elbow grease, you can actually do it yourself, which
- 10:33Speaker 3: is kind of alarming. So after dinner they made a
- 10:37Speaker 3: twelve am dash to the chemist. They bought a twenty
- 10:39Speaker 3: pack of Bobby pins. Twenty minutes later, after fiddling with
- 10:42Speaker 3: the lock, they managed to open the door. Long story short,
- 10:46Speaker 3: I saved my partner and I one hundred and eighty dollars.
- 10:48Speaker 3: And we're all terrified at that story. Money we know, yeah,
- 10:53Speaker 3: do you reckon?
- 10:54Speaker 5: Anyone could do that? Because that makes me very inference.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I feel like that's a skill I want to have
- 11:00Speaker 1: in my back pocket. Sucks. Oh my god. I love
- 11:04Speaker 1: that she thinks it's a money winner as well, because
- 11:06Speaker 1: like Bobby wins, nover girl, you had to buy those.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You got twenty of them. They are lasting point two
- 11:11Speaker 1: seconds in my house? What else you got? Okay?
- 11:14Speaker 3: The next one is my favorite, They're all my favorite.
- 11:16Speaker 3: This one's my favorite comes from Ali money loss, but
- 11:21Speaker 3: life win. I finally got the hedgehog I've wanted since
- 11:24Speaker 3: I was a teenager.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I really should have read through this before letting you
- 11:28Speaker 1: read it out on stage.
- 11:29Speaker 3: I got her from a rescue about an hour from me,
- 11:32Speaker 3: and it was one hundred and fifty dollars in adoption fees,
- 11:34Speaker 3: another fifty in food and supplies, and I've spent another
- 11:37Speaker 3: fifty on fun accessories such as a dedicated snubble bag
- 11:40Speaker 3: to carry her in.
- 11:43Speaker 1: No judgment, no, no, I love that she's clearly not
- 11:46Speaker 1: in Australia. She's based in the US. Okay research where
- 11:49Speaker 1: a little bit of stalky stalks. The next commet down,
- 11:51Speaker 1: Well we need to say hedgehog. I was like, everyone's laughing,
- 11:53Speaker 1: but hahah, she's probably gonna say hedgehogs life like the animal.
- 11:58Speaker 5: We're going to be in the States later in the
- 11:59Speaker 5: yard in Orlando. So, Alie, I want to meet your
- 12:02Speaker 5: hedgehog please?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, if you're in Orlando, we will meet you.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But to be honest, I would pay for flights to
- 12:07Speaker 1: go see your hedgehogs. So wherever you are, let me know.
- 12:11Speaker 3: The final win of the day, lady is it comes
- 12:14Speaker 3: from Emily. It's a bit of an inspirational one to
- 12:16Speaker 3: leave us with money.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Win.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I did an odd air tasker job for paralegal work
- 12:20Speaker 3: as I'm currently on matt leave and in my final
- 12:22Speaker 3: semester of my law degree, I got paid three hundred
- 12:26Speaker 3: dollars for a couple hours of work and I got
- 12:28Speaker 3: to do it from home. Huge There is more, though,
- 12:31Speaker 3: double win, I got offered a job out of the
- 12:34Speaker 3: work I did where I'm able to work remotely with
- 12:37Speaker 3: flexible hours which work around my baby's sleeping time. And
- 12:40Speaker 3: I'm now earning double the amount of what I do
- 12:43Speaker 3: at my current paralegal part time job. So now I'm
- 12:46Speaker 3: doing both two days a week and I've increased my
- 12:49Speaker 3: annual salary by thirty five thousand dollars and I don't
- 12:52Speaker 3: even need to get out of my pjs to do.
- 12:54Speaker 1: What on air on air taskar, I've literally only used
- 12:58Speaker 1: that to get people to put itafiron together for me
- 13:01Speaker 1: so that my relationship stays intact. Like literally, I didn't
- 13:05Speaker 1: know that was an option. Guys, don't get any ideas.
- 13:09Speaker 1: That's it for the week, guy, That's all you've got. Well, guys,
- 13:13Speaker 1: it has been so great celebrating some of your budget

- 14:03Speaker 1: I believe that you have a lineup of incredibly special
- 14:06Speaker 1: Shees on the Money members to ask their questions live.
- 14:09Speaker 1: We've got some good ones for you. Victoria Terrible Advice Live.
- 14:17Speaker 6: Hello, Hello, I'm Maddied lovely in person. My question is,
- 14:22Speaker 6: I guess, in your opinion, what are the best ways
- 14:25Speaker 6: that we can set ourselves up to be financially secure
- 14:29Speaker 6: long term into our future?
- 14:30Speaker 4: Can I start sure?
- 14:32Speaker 1: I don't know any of that money.
- 14:35Speaker 5: I started by paying off debt I was listening in
- 14:38Speaker 5: the Shees on the Money community two years ago with
- 14:40Speaker 5: a whole truckload of personal debt. And you know, the
- 14:44Speaker 5: advice that you gave then was if you have savings
- 14:47Speaker 5: and debt, you don't actually have savings. And that really
- 14:50Speaker 5: hit home for me. And so I worked really hard
- 14:52Speaker 5: and I paid off my debt and it was like
- 14:54Speaker 5: I became a new person. It like really lifted a
- 14:56Speaker 5: weight off of my shoulders and it made me feel
- 14:58Speaker 5: like I could tackle my new financial goals without that
- 15:01Speaker 5: burden over my head.
- 15:02Speaker 4: So that's where I would.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Start, a very good starting point. Oh, George, you've got
- 15:07Speaker 1: something to say, O, yes, we'll get.
- 15:09Speaker 4: To v lord.
- 15:10Speaker 3: So I would say probably taking super seriously is very important.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I think a lot of people tune out when they
- 15:17Speaker 3: hear the word superannuation. It's boring, don't he excuse me?
- 15:22Speaker 1: Actually, like my favorite thing in the entire world, Like,
- 15:25Speaker 1: how many of you can say, I'm investing ten point
- 15:27Speaker 1: five percent as of tomorrow, ten point five percent of
- 15:31Speaker 1: my money into an investment for my financial future? Huh
- 15:34Speaker 1: jokes all of you? Because of super Like that's the
- 15:37Speaker 1: impulsory all right, carry on, sorry.
- 15:39Speaker 4: But it is.
- 15:39Speaker 3: It's so important for women, and we know when we
- 15:42Speaker 3: get to retirement, so many of us end up in
- 15:44Speaker 3: a much worse off position, especially compared to men, because
- 15:47Speaker 3: we have taken time out of the workforce to raise families.
- 15:50Speaker 3: And there's so many other factors that go into it.
- 15:52Speaker 3: But I think, especially if you're self employed or freelance,
- 15:55Speaker 3: make sure you're paying super because it is so very important,
- 15:58Speaker 3: little boring but important. The other thing I would say
- 16:01Speaker 3: is don't use after pay if you can avoid it,
- 16:04Speaker 3: Like that was maybe obvious, an obvious take from us,
- 16:07Speaker 3: but yeah, not a fan of what.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Do you mean do we not? Like not the biggest fans. Interesting,
- 16:13Speaker 1: I'm not going to go on and on about them
- 16:14Speaker 1: because they already got them to ask me to stop,
- 16:16Speaker 1: So not gonna though. All Right, So I feel like
- 16:20Speaker 1: that is an epic question, and I totally agree with that.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Like Jess's advice of getting out of debt is the
- 16:26Speaker 1: one thing that I would say is a priority if
- 16:28Speaker 1: you're in it right now. I feel like it's so
- 16:30Speaker 1: easy to bury your head in the sand around consumer
- 16:33Speaker 1: debt because it feels overwhelming, And yeah, I guess that's
- 16:36Speaker 1: where you came from too, Jess. You or she's on
- 16:37Speaker 1: the money community member, now you are she's on the money,
- 16:41Speaker 1: which is so cool to me, But my advice would
- 16:43Speaker 1: really be so boring and comparison to hear answers this
- 16:47Speaker 1: budget and it's cash flow, and it's remembering that it's
- 16:51Speaker 1: not actually what you earn, it's what you save and
- 16:53Speaker 1: invest and care about. It's really about your ability to
- 16:58Speaker 1: understand every single dollar that comes Because I basically can
- 17:01Speaker 1: guarantee all of you are able to answer the question
- 17:03Speaker 1: of like how much do you earn? You'll be like, oh,
- 17:05Speaker 1: I earn sixty grand, or earn seventy or awn more
- 17:07Speaker 1: than that or whatever it is, but not many of
- 17:10Speaker 1: you could say on an annual figure, like we'll actually
- 17:12Speaker 1: spend sixty grand a year, like we don't know that number.
- 17:15Speaker 1: And I think that that's such a powerful number to
- 17:17Speaker 1: understand because if we can get an understanding of every
- 17:20Speaker 1: dollar that comes in and work out what job that
- 17:23Speaker 1: dollar has it doesn't matter what it is, and understand
- 17:26Speaker 1: them what leaves our bank account, that's where our power is.
- 17:29Speaker 1: That's what we can actually, you know, use to put
- 17:32Speaker 1: ourselves back in control because we understand it, and not
- 17:36Speaker 1: many people genuinely understand their cash flow. And I say
- 17:39Speaker 1: that as a legitimate financial advisor who talks to people
- 17:42Speaker 1: who earn sixty grand a year, but also people who
- 17:45Speaker 1: earn four hundred five hundred two million dollars a year
- 17:48Speaker 1: literally on a weekly basis. And even those people, once
- 17:51Speaker 1: they are earning millions a year, they genuinely can't tell
- 17:55Speaker 1: me either. Some of my wealthiest clients are not the
- 17:57Speaker 1: ones that are earning millions. Is the ones that were
- 18:00Speaker 1: consistent and steady and understood and cared and we can
- 18:04Speaker 1: all do that. It is hard at the start to
- 18:06Speaker 1: pull your head under the sound because it is overwhelming.
- 18:09Speaker 1: But from my position, it's really about that budgeting cash
- 18:13Speaker 1: flow as a foundational skill to then you know, go
- 18:16Speaker 1: all right, this is my budget. This is what debt
- 18:17Speaker 1: can do for me. Okay, now I need to care
- 18:19Speaker 1: about super like. There are heaps of steps, but like
- 18:22Speaker 1: that for me would be the first one. I hope
- 18:24Speaker 1: that answers your question. Yes, that was beautiful.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Thank you, got chazs wen up.
- 18:28Speaker 7: Next, thank you, Happy birtha, victorious my birthday, two birthday, buddies.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Birthday, thank you. Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 7: So my question was, as a fellow data nerd, I
- 18:42Speaker 7: was hoping that you would be able to tell me
- 18:44Speaker 7: whether you had plans to unpack the latest twenty twenty
- 18:47Speaker 7: one census starter on the pod.
- 18:49Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, like, do you want us to unpack it?
- 18:52Speaker 1: Now we can because guess what I knew you were
- 18:55Speaker 1: going to ask. It was the only question they've waten
- 18:59Speaker 1: us all because like, you can't just sit up here
- 19:01Speaker 1: and have some data questions and be like, yeah, I'll
- 19:03Speaker 1: unpack that on the pod theater. Thanks for coming, Jasmine.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Also thanks for asking that as an end of financial
- 19:09Speaker 1: year baby. Our friend over here, Georgia King, did some research.
- 19:14Speaker 3: And by that she means I read one article and
- 19:17Speaker 3: I'm going.
- 19:17Speaker 1: To share the find just one that came up on
- 19:19Speaker 1: Google news dot com dot are you pulling through with
- 19:22Speaker 1: the goods?
- 19:22Speaker 4: You're not wrong?
- 19:23Speaker 3: Actually, So Statskirl, though coming at you, OG fans will
- 19:27Speaker 3: know you.
- 19:27Speaker 1: You are known as stats girl in the community. Could
- 19:30Speaker 1: be statskill two point zero.
- 19:31Speaker 3: So a couple of stats that have come out from
- 19:33Speaker 3: this first batch of census.
- 19:35Speaker 1: There's more to.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Come, plenty more to come, which we will dig into
- 19:37Speaker 3: when we do do our big episode on it. But
- 19:40Speaker 3: millennials have caught up to baby boomers, so I think
- 19:43Speaker 3: there's five point five million of US five point five
- 19:46Speaker 3: million of them. There's a couple in Australia, not across
- 19:49Speaker 3: the world.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That would be small because the census is Australia. Correct.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Are we thing new boomer does that? Like, that's what's
- 19:55Speaker 4: becoming career?
- 19:56Speaker 1: Okay? But according to the guy on TikTok on the
- 19:59Speaker 1: videos watching this instead of doing work and preparing for this,
- 20:02Speaker 1: he was like, oh my gosh. Yeah, So the older
- 20:04Speaker 1: generation on TikTok like, you know that, you guys born
- 20:06Speaker 1: in the nineties. I was like, sir, the older generation ogo,
- 20:12Speaker 1: it hurts.
- 20:13Speaker 3: So that was the first stat and the second start
- 20:16Speaker 3: was that there's been a huge increase in people moving
- 20:19Speaker 3: back home. So I think it was for men, there's
- 20:23Speaker 3: been an increase since the last census of about seventeen percent,
- 20:26Speaker 3: so it's something like two hundred and eighty thousand men
- 20:29Speaker 3: between the ages of twenty five and thirty four are
- 20:32Speaker 3: back at home. And for women, it's been a jump
- 20:34Speaker 3: of like thirteen or fourteen percent, and it's about one
- 20:36Speaker 3: hundred and eighty thousand people women within that age bracket
- 20:39Speaker 3: are back at home, which I think is understandable given
- 20:43Speaker 3: like accountable, darker.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Time we're living in. As previously mentioned, let's reframe that
- 20:48Speaker 1: though they've all been listening to Shoes on the Money
- 20:50Speaker 1: and want to save money, and they've made the decision
- 20:52Speaker 1: to move home because they're financially savvy, that's it. I've
- 20:58Speaker 1: also been doing a little bit of research, mainly because
- 21:00Speaker 1: the second it came out, I was on the ABS
- 21:02Speaker 1: website like, ha, this is so fun. Unsurprisingly, our income
- 21:06Speaker 1: has increased, I mean, not as much as we need
- 21:09Speaker 1: to keep up with inflation, but it's gone from six
- 21:12Speaker 1: hundred and sixty two dollars to eight hundred and five dollars,
- 21:16Speaker 1: which is a nice little boost of one hundred and
- 21:18Speaker 1: forty three dollars. We like the income is increasing because
- 21:22Speaker 1: obviously that's reflective of a semi healthy economy. But the
- 21:26Speaker 1: thing that I didn't like about it is that, like
- 21:29Speaker 1: that gender and demographical and geographical disparity is still there,
- 21:34Speaker 1: so you know, there is still that gap between males
- 21:37Speaker 1: and females and what they earn, and people who are
- 21:40Speaker 1: living regionally and people who are living in metro and
- 21:42Speaker 1: what they earn. And I guess looking at that, they're
- 21:45Speaker 1: the statistics that as a community and as she's on
- 21:47Speaker 1: the money, we really want to focus on. We don't
- 21:49Speaker 1: want to go, oh my god, we're earning more like
- 21:50Speaker 1: because we kind of not like as a community, we're women,
- 21:53Speaker 1: so like, that's a nice number. But did we all
- 21:55Speaker 1: get that pay rise? Probably not, let's be honest. And
- 21:57Speaker 1: then the second thing is really interesting statistic. There are
- 22:01Speaker 1: now in Australia more than one million people that are
- 22:05Speaker 1: earning more than three grand a week. So that's a
- 22:09Speaker 1: lot of money. And you go million relatable content, unrelatable content.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I clearly don't pay these guys well enough, but to
- 22:16Speaker 1: put that in context of our population, that means one
- 22:19Speaker 1: in twenty five people are now earning more than one
- 22:22Speaker 1: hundred and fifty six thousand dollars each and every single week,
- 22:25Speaker 1: which means when you go to Cohle's, you're just walking
- 22:27Speaker 1: around with some people who are technically rich every single time,
- 22:30Speaker 1: which is kind of cool.
- 22:33Speaker 4: They're buying all the Iceberg.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Lettus, They're buying all the Iceberg lettuce. That's why they
- 22:37Speaker 1: can charge that much because they know, apparently we can
- 22:39Speaker 1: afford it. The other thing is unemployment rates are up,
- 22:42Speaker 1: and I wanted to mention that when we're talking about,
- 22:44Speaker 1: you know, data and around the census, because that is
- 22:48Speaker 1: not surprising, given COVID, given everything that is happening, given
- 22:51Speaker 1: the fact that we are now officially in a bear
- 22:53Speaker 1: market and that we're heading towards a recession, I'm not
- 22:57Speaker 1: surprised by this, but it is disheartening because one point
- 23:00Speaker 1: six six seven million people are now unemployed. And as
- 23:05Speaker 1: much as that's a terrifying number, because essentially, back to
- 23:08Speaker 1: the statistic I gave you before, of now a million
- 23:11Speaker 1: people are earning more than three grand a week, that's
- 23:13Speaker 1: one in twenty five people that are unemployed. Like that
- 23:16Speaker 1: is a lot of people, and given the recession that
- 23:19Speaker 1: is coming, it's only going to increase. So I think
- 23:22Speaker 1: that we need to just be really conscious of our
- 23:24Speaker 1: emergency funds, really conscious of what's going on, having a
- 23:27Speaker 1: little bit of empathy for the people that are surrounding us,
- 23:29Speaker 1: because it's not going to be easy for everybody. That's
- 23:32Speaker 1: a really dull Later ended, Jasmine, I hope that has
- 23:37Speaker 1: answered some of it, but yes, we're going to do
- 23:39Speaker 1: an entire episode. But the thing about the ABS is
- 23:41Speaker 1: they don't release all census starter at once. They like
- 23:44Speaker 1: to like trickle it out to keep the engagement rates high.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Kind of rude, kind of what we do. Maybe they've
- 23:49Speaker 1: got our strategy to keep their community engaged. Yeah, we
- 23:53Speaker 1: will do a whole episode on it when we have enough,
- 23:55Speaker 1: because I really want to crack that. The thing I
- 23:57Speaker 1: also want to crack is our own community census, which
- 23:59Speaker 1: will be coming out in the next month or so,
- 24:02Speaker 1: so we get a really good feel of what our
- 24:04Speaker 1: community are doing, not just what Australia is doing. So
- 24:08Speaker 1: thank you.
- 24:09Speaker 4: Happy birthday, Happy birthday, Thank you.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Hi guys him Chloe, is it your birthday too? No, well,
- 24:17Speaker 1: happy birthday when your birthday is thank you. I wanted
- 24:20Speaker 1: to ask a question about your careers. So you guys
- 24:23Speaker 1: are obviously thriving and it's amazing to see, but it
- 24:27Speaker 1: would just be great to hear how you knew what
- 24:29Speaker 1: you wanted to do, if you did, and how you
- 24:31Speaker 1: got to where you are today. Spoiler we didn't. What
- 24:36Speaker 1: do you mean?
- 24:38Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I'll take it.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Firstly, that's like the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Thank you so much. But I would say for me,
- 24:46Speaker 3: I never knew what I wanted to do. All I
- 24:49Speaker 3: knew in high school was that I liked writing, I
- 24:52Speaker 3: liked talking, and I liked performing a little bit of
- 24:54Speaker 3: a drama rge, and so that led me to like
- 24:57Speaker 3: a career in media. But I was always really jealous
- 25:00Speaker 3: of the kids in school that were like, I want
- 25:01Speaker 3: to be a nurse, and that path was really clear, Oh,
- 25:04Speaker 3: I want to be a surgeon, I want to be
- 25:05Speaker 3: a teacher, and it was just really obvious where it's me.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I was like, I like to talk and write. So yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 3: eventually found my way into a media degree and from
- 25:13Speaker 3: there have just done numerous roles in various companies, doing
- 25:17Speaker 3: lots of different things, driving golf buggies at the Grand
- 25:20Speaker 3: Prix to now hosting Shees on the Money, And Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 3: I think if you're kind of questioning where you want
- 25:27Speaker 3: to direct your career, it's a really good idea just
- 25:30Speaker 3: to ask yourself what you love, what you're passionate about,
- 25:32Speaker 3: what you're good at, and then try and push yourself
- 25:36Speaker 3: into those spaces just for like interning experience or work experience,
- 25:40Speaker 3: and see if it is what you want to do
- 25:42Speaker 3: from there. But yeah, I would also say, like you
- 25:45Speaker 3: just I don't feel like I'm nailing it at all,
- 25:47Speaker 3: Like I'm so sweaty.
- 25:51Speaker 4: But yeah, that's probably all I have to say.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Yeah, everyone has self doubt and struggles with career stuff,
- 25:56Speaker 3: so yeah, don't be hard on yourself.
- 25:58Speaker 4: If you are someone who is hard on yourself.
- 26:00Speaker 5: I feel my experience was pretty similar in that I
- 26:03Speaker 5: think I said this on the pod before.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Actually, like I had.
- 26:05Speaker 5: A really non linear career journey to get to here,
- 26:09Speaker 5: and I have this really clear memory of being in
- 26:12Speaker 5: high school and I was a fellow theater kid to
- 26:13Speaker 5: represent we.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Only hire drama kids.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Yeah, we are the drama apparently. But I remember sitting
- 26:19Speaker 5: in my career counselor's office and talking about what I
- 26:22Speaker 5: wanted to do, and I was like, I want to
- 26:24Speaker 5: be an actor, and they were like, well, you're not
- 26:26Speaker 5: going to be successful, You're never going to go anywhere.
- 26:29Speaker 5: Can you be a little more realistic?
- 26:31Speaker 1: And I just.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Remember being so devastated and so upset and I'm not
- 26:35Speaker 5: an actor.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Shockingly, I got told the same thing I got told
- 26:39Speaker 1: at the end of high school that I was a
- 26:42Speaker 1: basketball player on a tennis court. Well thanks, babe, cute
- 26:46Speaker 1: from that Jamous Filett look at this.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Yeah, And so I graduated and I kind of just
- 26:51Speaker 5: got a job in I think I was in real
- 26:53Speaker 5: estate and just doing admin, and I kind of worked
- 26:55Speaker 5: my way up and learned new skills and I ended
- 26:58Speaker 5: up here. Actually, during COVID, I was working in a
- 27:01Speaker 5: warehouse because I lost my job like so many people did,
- 27:04Speaker 5: and I just needed to put money on the table.
- 27:06Speaker 5: And I got a job working in a warehouse and
- 27:08Speaker 5: it definitely wasn't the dream, but it was a job,
- 27:11Speaker 5: and I was very grateful.
- 27:12Speaker 4: And I was.
- 27:13Speaker 5: Listening to Shees on Money, and I was paying off
- 27:15Speaker 5: my debt and I was doing all of the right things.
- 27:17Speaker 5: And I saw an Instagram post go up on the
- 27:20Speaker 5: Shoes on the Money Instagram that said you were hiring somebody,
- 27:22Speaker 5: and I was just like, oh my god, the stars
- 27:25Speaker 5: have aligned. I meant to be here, and I applied
- 27:27Speaker 5: for the job, and I just I remember I wanted
- 27:29Speaker 5: it so badly.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeahs old, I'm sorry to money in here, Like, I
- 27:34Speaker 1: don't mean, how bad did you want it? I mean
- 27:36Speaker 1: I asked people to send a cover letter explaining why
- 27:39Speaker 1: they would want their job and their resume through Jess
- 27:42Speaker 1: what did you do?
- 27:43Speaker 4: I sent a video of myself saying how badly I
- 27:47Speaker 4: wanted to pinch job me to.
- 27:48Speaker 1: B It wasn't even just that she'd Jess is a
- 27:50Speaker 1: little bit of a YouTuber, so she'd created me this
- 27:53Speaker 1: customer YouTube, completely edited, telling me exactly why I was
- 27:56Speaker 1: a perfect fit. Should stop looking for anybody else because
- 27:58Speaker 1: I'm wasting my time. Here's what I do with schese
- 28:01Speaker 1: on the money. This is what your socials would look like,
- 28:03Speaker 1: this is what your content would be like. This is
- 28:04Speaker 1: why I know I'm the best for this job. And
- 28:06Speaker 1: I was like, you're coming in or.
- 28:08Speaker 4: Like two days later I started working on Yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Literally, I was like, how much notice do you have
- 28:12Speaker 1: to give in your work in a warehouse? When do
- 28:13Speaker 1: you want me?
- 28:14Speaker 2: Like?
- 28:15Speaker 1: And it was fantastic. But I think that that's what
- 28:18Speaker 1: I guess, you know, as the person who's the employer,
- 28:20Speaker 1: and arguably I'm a very young, probably very different employer
- 28:23Speaker 1: to a lot of people. I've never looked at credentials
- 28:27Speaker 1: as some form of entitlement to a good job or
- 28:31Speaker 1: as some form of acknowledgment like and I look at it,
- 28:35Speaker 1: maybe because I'm privileged enough to have four degrees, I'm
- 28:38Speaker 1: just going, well, I'm still not smarter than these guys,
- 28:41Speaker 1: Like what's that done? For me. So I've always hired
- 28:44Speaker 1: on tenacity. I've always hired on energy. And the second
- 28:48Speaker 1: you know, not to rub your ego to me, if
- 28:49Speaker 1: you could just block your ears while I share this
- 28:51Speaker 1: with them, that would be great. The second I saw
- 28:53Speaker 1: justice application, I was like, I want that energy in
- 28:55Speaker 1: my business. I want the person who is as passionate.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Thought you were as passionate as I am about my business,
- 29:03Speaker 1: in my business working for me. I don't care if
- 29:05Speaker 1: she doesn't have the technical skills. I can see that passion.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I can see that I am going to be able
- 29:09Speaker 1: to teach her that that is fine by me. And
- 29:12Speaker 1: I had so many really educated, really experienced people apply
- 29:17Speaker 1: for the role that Jess applied for, and I just like,
- 29:20Speaker 1: I don't even care what you've done. I want the
- 29:23Speaker 1: person who genuinely wants it. And so I guess that's
- 29:27Speaker 1: about tenacity and actually just putting yourself forward. And we
- 29:30Speaker 1: know that women are far less likely to put themselves
- 29:33Speaker 1: forward when good jobs come up that they desperately want,
- 29:36Speaker 1: they go, oh, maybe if I have a few more
- 29:38Speaker 1: years of experience. I'm literally a boss telling you the experience.
- 29:41Speaker 1: It might matter, But like, what's the worst that could
- 29:44Speaker 1: happen if you put yourself forward. You've got a really
- 29:46Speaker 1: great experience. You've got more experience putting together a resume,
- 29:49Speaker 1: writing a cover letter, maybe having an interview, and the
- 29:53Speaker 1: worst thing that they can say is no, and you
- 29:54Speaker 1: just stay in the job that you were in before.
- 29:56Speaker 1: The alternative of that is you being consistently disappointed. And before, Georgia,
- 30:01Speaker 1: you said that you really admired those people who had
- 30:05Speaker 1: their stuff together in high school. This is so bad,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and I wish I'm not mentioning because I know you're
- 30:10Speaker 1: going to go looking for it. I found my Debutante
- 30:13Speaker 1: DVD from two thousand and eight DVD and I had
- 30:19Speaker 1: to like go find My partner used to play PlayStation
- 30:22Speaker 1: a lot. We didn't have a DVD player at home.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I had like be like, do we have a PlayStation
- 30:25Speaker 1: or something we could play a DVD. So I had
- 30:27Speaker 1: to go find it so I could watch this debutante thing.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And if you did your debutante, you know that he's
- 30:34Speaker 1: really weird looking back on it, like what was that?
- 30:37Speaker 1: They like present you and explain like what you want
- 30:40Speaker 1: to be when you grow up, and it's like mine
- 30:42Speaker 1: is Victoria wants to be a surgeon. Do I look
- 30:46Speaker 1: like a surgeon? So I feel like I was that
- 30:49Speaker 1: kid that was so stuck on what I wanted to
- 30:51Speaker 1: be when I grew up, because I knew that was
- 30:53Speaker 1: kind of impressive, right Like if I say I'm a
- 30:55Speaker 1: surgeon or I'm going to be a surgeon, and I'm
- 30:57Speaker 1: working towards that, like, that's good. So I just feel
- 31:00Speaker 1: like even if people around you seem to know what
- 31:03Speaker 1: they want, that doesn't necessarily mean that that's where they'll
- 31:05Speaker 1: end up or that's actually what they want, because I
- 31:07Speaker 1: think for me, I was just trying so hard to
- 31:09Speaker 1: pick something that gave me that sense of achievement that
- 31:12Speaker 1: I was trying to look for. And looking back on
- 31:15Speaker 1: my career, my arguably semi short career because I am
- 31:18Speaker 1: now in my heading towards my mid thirties, I look
- 31:21Speaker 1: back at it and go, all right, what is the
- 31:24Speaker 1: consistent here? And the consistent isn't actually a surgeon or
- 31:27Speaker 1: a psychologist, or a financial advisor or now a podcaster.
- 31:30Speaker 1: It is actually that I just wanted to help people,
- 31:32Speaker 1: and I was desperately searching for a way to connect
- 31:35Speaker 1: and to help and to put people in a better position.
- 31:39Speaker 1: And so for me. I think my advice would be
- 31:41Speaker 1: follow the things that give you energy, follow the things
- 31:44Speaker 1: that feel you full of joy, because they will grow.
- 31:47Speaker 1: And it's very hard to grow something that you don't
- 31:49Speaker 1: put a lot of love into. So I think that
- 31:52Speaker 1: when it comes to Korea, taking the pressure off what
- 31:54Speaker 1: that is and going what do I want to do
- 31:56Speaker 1: and how does that work? Because I think it's just
- 31:59Speaker 1: everything that has worked out for me in life isn't
- 32:01Speaker 1: because I was already good at it. It was because
- 32:03Speaker 1: I just gave it a crack. And you know, I
- 32:06Speaker 1: know what this looks like. I have been at panel events,
- 32:10Speaker 1: I've been at things. Look at the people on the stage.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, Like they're so impressive or
- 32:14Speaker 1: they're this, or they're that or the other. Like we're
- 32:17Speaker 1: not like, we're just like you. I mean, we've got
- 32:19Speaker 1: professional hair and makeup, so we're like the best versions
- 32:22Speaker 1: of ourselves right now. But it's interesting you only see
- 32:25Speaker 1: the highlight reels of stuff. People aren't going to share
- 32:28Speaker 1: the highest, the lows, the main crying like it happens
- 32:30Speaker 1: all the time. But I think that career puts a
- 32:33Speaker 1: lot of pressure on you and for a lot of
- 32:35Speaker 1: people it's not even the main priority of their life.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I hope that has answered some of them.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Thank you, hi Els.
- 32:45Speaker 1: I just had a question about investing. Hello, what do
- 32:48Speaker 1: you think the biggest misconceptions are around investing? Oh, there's
- 32:53Speaker 1: a few. Do you girls have some misconceptions? Before I
- 32:56Speaker 1: dive straight in?
- 32:58Speaker 3: I think, I mean they haven't started investing. Actually I
- 33:02Speaker 3: micro invest, So three cheers.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I'm superannuation Georgia King.
- 33:06Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, exactly right.
- 33:08Speaker 3: But I would say it's that you need to wait
- 33:11Speaker 3: to start investing when you're earning more down the line,
- 33:14Speaker 3: when you're financially set up. It's like a rich person's game,
- 33:17Speaker 3: when really we know that the sooner you start, the better.
- 33:20Speaker 4: V what's the stat you always.
- 33:22Speaker 3: Roll out that when you're twenty one to sixty five?
- 33:24Speaker 1: Really should have put me under these versions? You know
- 33:27Speaker 1: the numbers you mean, like the compound interest one. Okay,
- 33:31Speaker 1: So the stat Georgia is referring to is the one
- 33:34Speaker 1: that I use a lot because I want to contextualize
- 33:36Speaker 1: that it doesn't take millions of dollars to make a
- 33:38Speaker 1: million dollars, and that is when you are twenty one.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Let's not mess this up when you're twenty one, if
- 33:42Speaker 1: you started investing five hundred dollars each and every single
- 33:46Speaker 1: month at an average rate of return of about seven
- 33:48Speaker 1: and a half percent, which financial advisors like to use,
- 33:51Speaker 1: nice clean number, also a relatively safe number to head
- 33:56Speaker 1: your bets on. If you were putting that money, that
- 33:58Speaker 1: five hundred bucks each every single month into a savings account,
- 34:02Speaker 1: when you turn sixty five, you'll have two hundred and
- 34:04Speaker 1: forty thousand dollars. Like that cool, no problems. Had you
- 34:08Speaker 1: invested that at that average rader return of seven and
- 34:10Speaker 1: a half percent, you would have one point two million
- 34:12Speaker 1: dollars and a one point two million dollar investment portfolio
- 34:16Speaker 1: pays you dividends, and so dividends are the income that
- 34:20Speaker 1: your share portfolio produces. It's not about selling it down.
- 34:23Speaker 1: Pays you an income of about fifty to sixty thousand
- 34:25Speaker 1: dollars each and every single year. That is you creating
- 34:28Speaker 1: an income for yourself. Imagine what you could do if
- 34:31Speaker 1: you cared more about your super once you, you know, get
- 34:34Speaker 1: a little bit more sturdy in your career and have
- 34:36Speaker 1: a little bit more free cashlow and can throw some
- 34:38Speaker 1: more money at stuff like that, Like we can create
- 34:40Speaker 1: financial freedom. It does not take millions of dollars to
- 34:44Speaker 1: create millions. And you know, I use that stat a
- 34:47Speaker 1: lot because I'm not twenty one anymore. It's going to
- 34:50Speaker 1: take me a little bit more to get there, and
- 34:51Speaker 1: that's okay, But like I think that that really contextualizes
- 34:55Speaker 1: the power of time and how we all kind of
- 34:57Speaker 1: wish we'd started earlier, but it puts like that five
- 35:00Speaker 1: in our back pocket to start sooner and get our
- 35:03Speaker 1: ducks in a row and you know, really start and really,
- 35:07Speaker 1: you know, start going there. And you're right, you don't
- 35:09Speaker 1: need millions of dollars. This is not sponsored. He is
- 35:11Speaker 1: just good. But our friends at Chares's right, like they
- 35:15Speaker 1: have found a way to make the entry point one cent,
- 35:18Speaker 1: Like use the code SotM and you get ten bucks.
- 35:22Speaker 1: But like, legit, it's that easy nowadays. I know, historically
- 35:26Speaker 1: it was really prohibitive and it was a man's community
- 35:30Speaker 1: and it was really about like a blowkey thing. And
- 35:32Speaker 1: I mean, the more I talk tomorrowseas actually round into
- 35:36Speaker 1: someone who's like, I'm an investor and I'm just like
- 35:38Speaker 1: here we go. And we had a really fun conversation
- 35:41Speaker 1: without me telling him what I did. But he definitely
- 35:44Speaker 1: knew more than me. I'm shaking my head for those
- 35:47Speaker 1: of you who are listening to this podcast, But it's
- 35:49Speaker 1: really interesting because it is such a blokes thing and
- 35:51Speaker 1: it's such a man's plain thing, and it's just it's
- 35:53Speaker 1: not as hard as you think it is. It can
- 35:56Speaker 1: be so simple and Jes like, you're now an investor,
- 35:59Speaker 1: which makes me so proud, and you're really prioritizing it. Guys.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Jess came into the office a couple of weeks ago
- 36:05Speaker 1: just like, yes, So I was fining these shares and
- 36:06Speaker 1: I've done my research, and I was like, who have
- 36:08Speaker 1: you become? I love this, but Jess, what's yours?
- 36:12Speaker 4: I think it is kind of what you just said.
- 36:13Speaker 5: I always thought that it would be much harder than
- 36:17Speaker 5: it actually is. Like it really did seem quite elusive
- 36:20Speaker 5: and overwhelming, and I guess because I didn't grow up
- 36:23Speaker 5: in a family that ever really spoke about investing, it
- 36:25Speaker 5: seems so far away for me. But once I had
- 36:28Speaker 5: listened to the podcast and done my research, I realized
- 36:31Speaker 5: that it's actually not that hard, and there are a
- 36:33Speaker 5: lot of things that you can do to make it
- 36:35Speaker 5: easier on yourself. You can buy ETFs that are pre balanced,
- 36:38Speaker 5: and there are all of these different options that are available,
- 36:40Speaker 5: and it's much easier to kind of just start and
- 36:44Speaker 5: kind of learn a bit more as you go and
- 36:47Speaker 5: take the plunge and commit.
- 36:48Speaker 4: To learning and commit to doing it regularly, and it's
- 36:51Speaker 4: all going to be okay.
- 36:51Speaker 5: It's not that hard and it's not that bad, and
- 36:54Speaker 5: there are so many great resources out there that you
- 36:56Speaker 5: can use to learn new things.
- 36:58Speaker 4: I hear there's a podcast that talks about it.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Sometimes, interested also a book coming out. Well, I don't
- 37:04Speaker 1: like reading about it. I think the thing I'd add
- 37:07Speaker 1: to that is that there's obviously this misconception that investing
- 37:13Speaker 1: is like gambling, and it couldn't be further from the
- 37:16Speaker 1: truth if you look at historical data over the last
- 37:19Speaker 1: thirty years, like, not one person who stayed invested for
- 37:22Speaker 1: that thirty year period lost money. So it's really about
- 37:24Speaker 1: a long term game, you know. Obviously, investing recently, I
- 37:29Speaker 1: feel like has had a lot of shade thrown at it,
- 37:32Speaker 1: purely because we've got these crypto influences and people throwing
- 37:35Speaker 1: money at these things that we think are really safe.
- 37:38Speaker 1: It makes me so uncomfortable, honestly, and I'm sorry this
- 37:41Speaker 1: if this is you, it makes me so uncomfortable when
- 37:44Speaker 1: I talk to people and they're like, yeah, I'm investing
- 37:46Speaker 1: in crypto, and then I have these really nice conversations
- 37:48Speaker 1: and be like, oh my god, what else do you
- 37:49Speaker 1: invest in? And they're like, I'm not the share market
- 37:50Speaker 1: too risky. I'm like, what, Like that asset class that
- 37:54Speaker 1: you have chosen isn't even regulated in this country for
- 37:58Speaker 1: a reason, like where you got your information? Like, I
- 38:01Speaker 1: totally understand that it is sexy and fun, and you know,
- 38:05Speaker 1: it's fun if that's what you want to get involved with,
- 38:07Speaker 1: But just this idea that investing is a gamble is
- 38:11Speaker 1: not the case if you're educating yourself and making decisions
- 38:14Speaker 1: that are putting you in the best possible position. And
- 38:17Speaker 1: I think the other misconception, Yeah, it's just around accessibility
- 38:21Speaker 1: and affordability and that I don't know. We're talking about
- 38:26Speaker 1: it a while ago, George, and you're like, yeah, but
- 38:28Speaker 1: I just don't know how much to put in. I'm
- 38:29Speaker 1: like five bars, Like you don't have to take your
- 38:33Speaker 1: life savings and put it into the investment market. You
- 38:36Speaker 1: just have to dip your toes in and see how
- 38:39Speaker 1: you're going and it might start like George's recently started
- 38:42Speaker 1: micro investing just to see how the markets are performing.
- 38:45Speaker 1: And if you do that for twelve months, because that's
- 38:47Speaker 1: what makes you comfortable, Like, that's what makes you comfortable.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Like we're not saying go and start throwing that five
- 38:53Speaker 1: hundred bucks a month. And that's just a really good example.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It's about understanding it. And the best investment you can
- 38:59Speaker 1: make today is actually in your own education. And sometimes
- 39:02Speaker 1: again not to stereotype, sometimes as women we get analysis
- 39:08Speaker 1: paralysis and we think we need to know absolutely every
- 39:11Speaker 1: single thing about a topic before we dive into actually
- 39:14Speaker 1: doing that. And I find that the Shoes on the
- 39:16Speaker 1: money community is very similar. They're like, oh, I just
- 39:18Speaker 1: don't know enough about investing yet. I'm like, well, why
- 39:21Speaker 1: don't we put five dollars into your financial literacy, put
- 39:24Speaker 1: it on an investing platform, and you follow the markets
- 39:27Speaker 1: instead of just reading about it. So I think it's
- 39:29Speaker 1: about really contextualizing what that means for you and knowing
- 39:33Speaker 1: that it doesn't have to be your life savings. It
- 39:36Speaker 1: can start small. It can be a small decision and
- 39:39Speaker 1: a small step in the right direction. I hope that amazing.
- 39:42Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 39:45Speaker 1: That is all we have time for, is it well? Audience,
- 39:49Speaker 1: thank you for putting up with that, because usually Thursday
- 39:52Speaker 1: afternoons are us actually recording the podcast. And the compromise
- 39:55Speaker 1: was we want a party, we have to do work
- 39:57Speaker 1: at the party. So thank you for coming. The pause
- 40:00Speaker 1: for Jessica and Georgia, thank you, my loves. It wouldn't
- 40:09Speaker 1: be a She's on the Money podcast if we didn't
- 40:12Speaker 1: make Georgia King read out my IFSL statement. So let's
- 40:15Speaker 1: make her do it live and see if she marks
- 40:17Speaker 1: up the numbers. Georgia King, take it away. Let's do it.
- 40:20Speaker 3: Brace yourself, guys, so sorry, alrighty. The advice shared on
- 40:23Speaker 3: She's on the Money is general in nature and does
- 40:26Speaker 3: not consider your individual circumstances.
- 40:28Speaker 4: She's on the Money.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Exists purely for educational purposes and should not be relied
- 40:33Speaker 3: upon to make an investment or a financial decision. And

- 40:55Speaker 1: I don't know if you're well. We will see you
