- 0:00Today's ad is sponsored by Melting From The Heat. Welcome, but be good.
- 0:05The phrase on the new passports, our president just launched.
- 0:09Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:15I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today is July 2nd, 2026.
- 0:19Today, I'm going to try to melt an egg on a frying pan.
- 0:25And this might be on TV, depending on who I end up telling. while I'm on set. TBD.
- 0:33So, in real news, New York was treated to a very romantic, very illegal before men's art piece
- 0:40yesterday when two people decided the Empire State Building wasn't that tall
- 0:46and went ahead and climbed to the antenna like it was casual rock climbing.
- 0:50Once at the top, because apparently fear of heights is optional,
- 0:55they unfurled a giant banner that read, when the power of love beats the love
- 0:59of power, the world knows peace. I mean, that's cute.
- 1:03Or it's what you say before the NYPD sent a helicopter to ruin your engagement photos.
- 1:09Yeah, so one of them got down on one knee, and then there was a proposal.
- 1:14And yes, this all happened on a building that was not designed for romance or
- 1:18safety or literally anything, except holding a giant spire.
- 1:22Police eventually escorted the couple down and arrested them.
- 1:26And probably thinking we did not train for Shakespeare on scaffolding.
- 1:31They believed the pair may be professional rooftop climbers,
- 1:35because of course they are, meaning this wasn't just love, it was also Randall I meant.
- 1:41They were even featured in a Netflix documentary called Skywalkers,
- 1:45a love story that now feels like a documentary about humans who forgot consequences exist.
- 1:52No injuries were reported, It was just emotional damage to every insurance adjuster in New York.
- 1:58Bad news if you've been clinging to physical media pre-2027.
- 2:03Sony is wanting non-production of recordable Blu-ray discs, and they're joining
- 2:09CDs and mini-discs in the Museum of Things Millennials insists that we're actually better,
- 2:15which means that we're one step closer to owning absolutely nothing.
- 2:20Remember when buying a game and actually buying a game?
- 2:24Now you buy permission to download the game and then need a 78 gigabyte update
- 2:29before you can spend 45 minutes creating your character's eyebrows,
- 2:33which I know nothing about because I'm not obsessed with The Sims.
- 2:38Physical discs are becoming the blockbuster of entertainment.
- 2:41Pretty soon, the only thing left that comes in a disc will be pizza.
- 2:45Gen Alpha is going to grow up thinking DVDs were just giant coasters adults collected.
- 2:51I'm not saying I miss physical media, But I do miss making my friends mix CDs.
- 2:57Like, that was such a love language.
- 2:59Netflix has officially announced a new limited series about the JonBenet Ramsey
- 3:03case, starring Melissa McCarthy.
- 3:06This case is nearly 30 years old and has already been the subject of countless
- 3:11documentaries, specials, podcasts, and Reddit rabbit holes.
- 3:15And executives looked at all of that and said, you know what this needs? A Netflix series.
- 3:20At this point, Netflix treats unsolved crimes the way Disney treats superheroes.
- 3:26If there's a recognizable name attached to it, they're making content about it.
- 3:30The series promises a fresh look at one of America's most infamous mysteries,
- 3:35which is Hollywood good for.
- 3:37We just need to add prestige lighting to it.
- 3:40And if Netflix keeps this pace up, pretty soon your family argument from Thanksgiving
- 3:45is going to get a six-part documentary narrated by Morgan Freeman and Lindsay Life.
- 3:51I was out in South Philly last night, and I had a lot of nostalgia for when
- 3:56I used to live there with my ex.
- 3:58But I didn't actually live there and also he wasn't really my ex.
- 4:05It was my very long-term situationships house that I went to literally all the time.
- 4:11Five weird things that happened to me this week. I went out on a school night
- 4:15in Philly and slept at a friend's, which is actually my boss.
- 4:19I did improv on HGTV.
- 4:22I watched the girl from Haramika turn into a gardener.
- 4:26I asked a famous actor if they were a camera operator. And I cried in the middle
- 4:31of Target in the drink aisle on the phone with unemployment as people tried
- 4:35to get around me and get their drinks.
- 4:38Cooking tip of the day. Clean as you cook or don't. You'll have to clean at some point.
- 4:43Feedback, comments, questions, and I should wish by looking for a date,
- 4:46email me at lindsay at thedailystarcast.com.
- 4:49Thanks so much for listening. Have a great day and I'll talk to you guys tomorrow.
