- 0:22baylee: Hello, everyone.
- 0:23baylee: Welcome back to this week's episode of Mocktail Minutes.
- 0:26baylee: This is Bailey.
- 0:27brianna: And this is Brianna.
- 0:28baylee: This week for our mocktails, I found one.
- 0:31baylee: I'm back on my Aldi's kick because there's one by work now.
- 0:34baylee: So, I found, a Vita Life is what it's called.
- 0:38baylee: It's a prebiotic soda.
- 0:40baylee: Only has, it has 5 grams of added sugar, so it's fine.
- 0:43baylee: 9 grams of fiber.
- 0:45baylee: So, we shall see.
- 0:46baylee: It has some apple cider vinegar in it.
- 0:48brianna: Nice.
- 0:49brianna: Sounds good.
- 0:50brianna: Today I'm trying some new electrolytes from Bubz Naturals.
- 0:54brianna: This is hydrate or die.
- 0:55brianna: I love it.
- 0:56brianna: Anyways, these ones are like super mild in flavor.
- 1:00brianna: So if you're like, don't like the like super flavorful ones, I feel like this is a good option.
- 1:05brianna: And also it doesn't have any artificial sweeteners or Stevia or anything.
- 1:09brianna: And I know there's been like a couple people reaching out to me wanting like Electrolytes without stevia.
- 1:14brianna: So if you do It seems like a good option.
- 1:17brianna: No some of their flavors have it not all of them, but the coconut doesn't have any
- 1:20baylee: Yeah, and I think like stevia is a good sweetener in general.
- 1:24baylee: But yeah, some people just don't like the taste of it.
- 1:27brianna: I think that's what it is is like they don't love the taste.
- 1:30brianna: So if that's you give these a try.
- 1:33baylee: Alright, so how has back to school been going for your kiddos?
- 1:37brianna: It's been going good we already got hit with the back to school germs So last week one of my kids was sick and now this week One of mine are out sick, but I'm just hoping to get it out of the way.
- 1:48brianna: Like, get all the germs out of the way.
- 1:50brianna: And then my only one who hasn't gotten sick is my middle one.
- 1:54brianna: And yesterday I took my youngest's temperature and I was like, Oh yeah, it was like 101.
- 1:58brianna: And he was like, Lick me! Lick me so I don't have to go to school! And he's like, the whole night was trying to get my youngest son to lick him.
- 2:05brianna: I'm like, that's disgusting.
- 2:07baylee: are weird.
- 2:08brianna: They're so weird.
- 2:09brianna: I was like, we're not licking anyone.
- 2:11brianna: This is, stop.
- 2:12brianna: I shouldn't have to say that.
- 2:13brianna: I shouldn't...
- 2:14baylee: don't lick each other so you can stay home from school.
- 2:18brianna: But other than that, it's been good.
- 2:19brianna: We all like being back in a routine, so I'm excited for back to school.
- 2:24baylee: That's what I'm hearing, and I think even for me, like, I don't even have kids, but I also feel a little bit more in routine.
- 2:31baylee: Nothing really changed, but it's always, when school's back in session for everyone else, it's like, oh yeah, summer's kind of ending, and it's kind of sad.
- 2:41brianna: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:41brianna: So I'm getting back to my routine.
- 2:43brianna: And then, you know, when you're working with clients, like everyone's just more on a schedule, you're like, okay, here I am.
- 2:47brianna: I
- 2:47baylee: Yeah,
- 2:48brianna: like it.
- 2:49baylee: I feel like this time, it's kind of slows down for us.
- 2:53baylee: Because of just the craziness of getting back into routine, but then like, people are ready to go, and they're ready to work on their healthy habits before the hell holidays HOLIDAYS come.
- 3:04brianna: That works too.
- 3:05brianna: But yeah, I agree.
- 3:06brianna: I think like August is just kind of like a weird transition month and everyone feels like a little crazy.
- 3:12brianna: So I, yeah, I feel like September, October those are people's months.
- 3:16brianna: That's like the new January.
- 3:18brianna: It's like the second new year, you
- 3:20baylee: August has literally flown by.
- 3:22baylee: I mean, today as we're recording, it's already August 31st.
- 3:26baylee: So, it's like September tomorrow.
- 3:29baylee: Where has the time gone?
- 3:32brianna: know?
- 3:32brianna: I don't know.
- 3:33brianna: I don't know because I still feel like it just turned 2023.
- 3:36brianna: And it hasn't.
- 3:37brianna: It's, it's been a while.
- 3:40baylee: Man,
- 3:40brianna: fourths of the way through.
- 3:41brianna: Yeah.
- 3:42brianna: So I'm just here for the ride.
- 3:44baylee: I know.

- 4:24baylee: Not just like we like to talk to each other But the fact we've talked about this before I think in an episode, but it is Very guys's experience with listening to the podcast and how much value it has brought to us I don't think I was expecting that to be quite honest.
- 4:41baylee: I thought it was just gonna be Here's our podcast that we talked to 20 people to maybe
- 4:46brianna: I thought it was just going to be like, obviously we've talked about, we have fun doing this.
- 4:49brianna: Like we show up, we talk, it's fun.
- 4:51brianna: We enjoy it.
- 4:52brianna: But yeah, whenever I hear someone be like, Oh my gosh, that podcast episode really helped me or it made me see something this way.
- 4:58brianna: Or like, I got this idea from the podcast.
- 5:00brianna: I'm like, Oh, I'm so proud.
- 5:03brianna: We did it Bailey.
- 5:04baylee: Yes, so shout out to all of you and just thank you we appreciate you and I mean, I think we have topics already for the rest of this year and also next year.
- 5:17baylee: We're also working on a few guests to come on.
- 5:19baylee: That will be very exciting.
- 5:22baylee: Yeah, I think those are main things.
- 5:23baylee: So giveaway, should we do it at like 2, 500 downloads or should we do it 3, 000?
- 5:29brianna: Ooh, that's a good one.
- 5:31brianna: Maybe we should go big.
- 5:33brianna: Maybe we should be like at 3000.
- 5:36brianna: We'll do it.
- 5:36brianna: I feel like that's a good number.
- 5:38brianna: Yeah.
- 5:39brianna: Yeah.
- 5:39brianna: Let's do to 3000.
- 5:40baylee: At 3, 000 downloads, you guys will get a giveaway from us.
- 5:45baylee: It'll be
- 5:45brianna: So share the podcast.
- 5:47brianna: So share it, have your family listen to it, have your girlfriend listen to it, whatever the more the, because we have some really good stuff that we're getting away.
- 5:56brianna: Like Bailey and I have been collecting this stuff, like I think since April,
- 6:02baylee: since we started.
- 6:03baylee: It's been sitting in my living room.
- 6:05baylee: So let's give it a new home.
- 6:07baylee: Let's put it to use.
- 6:09brianna: Yeah.
- 6:10brianna: So yeah, before we're like tempted to use it.
- 6:12brianna: Cause I will say like, there's some really good stuff.
- 6:14baylee: I know, I look at it and I'm like, Ooh, I just kind of want this.
- 6:17baylee: Maybe I'll use it and just buy another one.
- 6:20brianna: Right.
- 6:20baylee: But I haven't done that.
- 6:21baylee: So you guys get all the goods.
- 6:23baylee: Other things that are coming up.
- 6:25baylee: Okay.
- 6:25baylee: Giveaway.
- 6:26baylee: We have some guests coming in.
- 6:28baylee: And then, so we've talked about me coming to Texas.
- 6:31baylee: Brianna and I have a really good idea up our sleeves.
- 6:34baylee: I don't want to give too much information away because I don't want it to not happen and then we look like dum dums.
- 6:39baylee: But, something exciting.
- 6:42baylee: We'll, we'll say hopefully we're going to record an episode live.
- 6:45baylee: I think we can definitely commit to that.
- 6:47brianna: That's
- 6:48baylee: Like, together.
- 6:49baylee: In the same room.
- 6:51brianna: Yeah, that'll be fun That'll definitely happen.
- 6:53brianna: But all the other details we'll keep that a secret just in case We don't know how to pull it off
- 6:59baylee: But if it does, it's gonna be great.
- 7:01baylee: Alright.
- 7:02baylee: Anyways, enough of our ranting, because this is a no fluff podcast.
- 7:08brianna: Yeah, here we go
- 7:11baylee: Let's dive in.
- 7:12baylee: So, today, back to school type things.
- 7:15baylee: I've had a lot of moms coming to me, like, I am so stressed.
- 7:20baylee: And I'm hearing a lot of issues, I would say around lunch.
- 7:24baylee: With packing lunch, I mean some things around dinner, but I think lunch and dinner kind of the same advice around them.
- 7:31baylee: So we thought we'd tackle lunch today, and we do have some previous episodes talking about like consistency, dinner type things, just building meals in general, and even last week we did one on fast food, and I know that can happen at dinner time when life happens or on the weekends with games.
- 7:48baylee: So check those out too.
- 7:49baylee: Today we're gonna tackle Lunch, more specifically, I guess like packing lunches.
- 7:53brianna: this is a good one because I feel like this is a pain point For a lot of people and then it's something that can just easily drain you And then easily overwhelm you.
- 8:02brianna: And we all know that when we get overwhelmed, it's like a domino effect.
- 8:06brianna: And suddenly everything is really overwhelming and you just, you're sitting there trying to play catch up.
- 8:11brianna: So I'm excited that we're doing this one.
- 8:13baylee: And it's not just for the moms, either.
- 8:15baylee: I mean, it's for everyone who eats lunch, packs a lunch, if you go into the office and you have to pack a lunch.
- 8:21baylee: So if you're someone who is trying to stop going out to eat every single day at lunch, this one's for you.
- 8:28baylee: But also, if you're going out to eat, go listen to that past episode.
- 8:31baylee: Shameless plug.
- 8:32brianna: Exactly.
- 8:33brianna: Yeah.
- 8:33brianna: Go listen to that.
- 8:34brianna: Cause that's, that's the podcast for you.
- 8:36brianna: But really when it comes to lunch, like you need something fast.
- 8:39brianna: Easy, budget friendly, and I can't stress this enough.
- 8:44brianna: I get so many clients that come to me and they're like, I just dunno how to put together like complicated meals.
- 8:50brianna: And I feel like I need to be meal prepping for like five hours on Sunday.
- 8:53brianna: And eh, and I gotta tell you, like, I mean, most of the dieticians that I talk to and I know like for myself my meals are not extravagant, like to the point where I've had to force myself to start getting a little bit more interesting, so I'm like, I can put stuff on social media that's social media worthy because I am like a quick and to the point type person and that's how you should be too, especially if you have a little bit of time or you're like overwhelmed.
- 9:19brianna: With meals.
- 9:20baylee: Yeah, we keep it easy around here, and we keep it budget friendly, and I think that's an important part to kind of recognize is that we don't have to put the extravagant meals together.
- 9:33baylee: We can keep it simple, and it's funny that you mentioned making it social media worthy because that's what I try to do, and they just don't always...
- 9:42baylee: Turned out great.
- 9:43baylee: I mean, I have lots of kitchen mishaps.
- 9:45baylee: I almost caught my kitchen on fire.
- 9:48baylee: It's fine.
- 9:50brianna: Yeah.
- 9:50brianna: So, you know, like nobody has time to be burning down their kitchen do we want to like hop into like some meal options?
- 9:58brianna: Like what do you do for lunch?
- 9:59brianna: Because I know for me, it depends.
- 10:02brianna: I'm working at home or if I'm working away from home or whatever it is.
- 10:05brianna: So
- 10:06baylee: so I guess just to start off since we are talking about packing lunches I do Want to mention with this all being said This is not to say like don't allow your kids to not eat cafeteria food or anything like that Because I feel like it kind of gets a bad rap a bad reputation With school food being terrible while yes, I mean, it's not a gourmet kitchen, but Schools, they do have to meet standards.
- 10:31baylee: I mean, it's not like they're just randomly putting things together They do have to meet standards of the carbs, protein like the protein sources, fruits, veggies, all those parts.
- 10:42baylee: So they are putting those meals together and I don't want to say like this is bad versus good.
- 10:48baylee: Like it's bad to eat cafeteria food good to pack your own lunch because honestly, I don't think about that in food anyways.
- 10:55baylee: And these cafeteria meals, I mean they help out so many people.
- 10:59baylee: And sometimes, that's like the option, and that's the best meal some kids are getting, and that is perfectly fine, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 11:06baylee: So, just want to set the stage, nothing wrong with cafeteria food, but I feel like there's more stress around packing foods rather than sending money to be able to do a tray.
- 11:17brianna: Yeah, I agree.
- 11:19brianna: And honestly, like hot lunch is cool now.
- 11:21brianna: Like, I don't know if hot lunch was cool when you were a kid.
- 11:23brianna: When I was a kid, I was like, man, I have to get hot lunch.
- 11:26brianna: I was like, now it's like cool.
- 11:27brianna: My kids are like, all right, are we getting hot lunch?
- 11:30brianna: I'm like, no, cause I got up at 6am and made your lunch.
- 11:33brianna: So no, you're not getting hot lunch.
- 11:36brianna: So yeah, like Bailey said, There's requirements like, and it's pretty strict.
- 11:41brianna: So those are still a good option.
- 11:43brianna: If that's what you have and that's what you want to utilize,
- 11:46baylee: Mhm.
- 11:46baylee: And you also have to think about there could be feeding like thousands of kids and one day we don't have time to make everything from scratch.
- 11:55baylee: That's the reality of it.
- 11:56baylee: So
- 11:56brianna: Exactly.
- 11:57brianna: And a lot of times they're doing breakfast as well.
- 11:59brianna: So that's, that's a lot on people that work service, just a shout out to food service
- 12:05baylee: Yeah, I shadowed a school and I mean, they have to start preparing for lunch right after breakfast, and then they're cleaning up the rest of the day.
- 12:14baylee: So it's a lot of work.
- 12:15baylee: It's more than like putting together lunch for yourself, so just keep that in mind.
- 12:19baylee: Thank your food service people.
- 12:20baylee: They put in a lot of work.
- 12:21baylee: It's not just those lunch hours.
- 12:24baylee: Okay, so packing a lunch.
- 12:27baylee: I think the biggest thing here I would kind of start with is I always just start with protein.
- 12:31baylee: No matter what meal I'm doing, I'm just gonna decide, okay, what protein do I have on hand and then I can build around it with what's in the fridge.
- 12:40baylee: I like to do hard boiled eggs.
- 12:42baylee: Those are kind of my go to to always have on hand.
- 12:45baylee: Otherwise, I do a lot of leftovers doing chicken in a crock pot during the week and I don't put a lot of flavor to it, that way I can jazz it up as I go and make it a little different each week, well, not each week, each day just adding salsas or seasoning, anything like that.
- 13:02baylee: So I think those are two main things, the leftovers.
- 13:05baylee: Hard boiled eggs, just having things on hand today.
- 13:09baylee: I had no leftovers.
- 13:10baylee: I had no hard boiled eggs So it was a sandwich day and that's cool, too Had a sandwich and then I'm eating a beef stick with it to kind of up the protein because I didn't want to eat that much lunch meat
- 13:20brianna: I think that's a good starting point.
- 13:22brianna: Cause that's going to help make sure that you're filling full, keeping you sustained, not having like those cravings.
- 13:28brianna: I love the crock pot chicken idea.
- 13:29brianna: I do this on Mondays too, and I just shred it and then I have it.
- 13:34brianna: This works for lunch and dinner.
- 13:35brianna: Really?
- 13:36brianna: Like people just use it how they want it.
- 13:38brianna: Like my kids will put it in tacos.
- 13:40brianna: I'll put it in like in a bowl.
- 13:41brianna: My husband will put it in a sandwich or a wrap or like whatever it is.
- 13:45brianna: I'll add it to a salad, like.
- 13:47brianna: Rotisserie chicken or shredded chicken is where it's at.
- 13:50brianna: So, pick a protein.
- 13:52brianna: This is especially important for kids lunches too, because they're hungry.
- 13:56brianna: Like, they're doing a lot at school.
- 13:57brianna: It's like a full time job if you think about it.
- 14:00brianna: You know, like, they're sitting there learning.
- 14:02brianna: They're doing all the different classes, they're playing with friends.
- 14:05brianna: Kids go a hundred miles an hour because they don't know how to pace themselves.
- 14:08brianna: Start off with protein and pick something that they like.
- 14:11brianna: I had a friend of mine, she was like, Oh, do you judge me for doing like a peanut butter and jelly?
- 14:16brianna: I was like, no, like that's all my youngest will eat.
- 14:18brianna: Like it is what he gets every single day is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
- 14:22brianna: Because.
- 14:23brianna: So I'm like okay, there's like some good amount of protein on that, and then I always make sure I add in like an additional like a yogurt or something on the side that I know he'll eat that I'm like, okay, you got your protein or whatever, but start with protein and then work your way around that.
- 14:39brianna: I like to always offer some sort of fresh something like fresh fruit, fresh vegetables.
- 14:44brianna: Those are also easy to prep in the beginning of the week because you can put them in little baggies or little reusable Ziploc baggies.
- 14:52brianna: And you can just like take them out of the fridge and throw them in the lunch pail in the morning or even for yourself too.
- 14:56brianna: I swear a lot of times when I pack lunch for myself, it's like I'm packing a child's lunchbox.
- 15:00brianna: That's what it
- 15:01baylee: Yes, no, I think those are good.
- 15:04baylee: So, yeah, starting with the protein and a lot of the protein sources that kids especially will eat have some healthy fats in it.
- 15:12baylee: Like the cheese stick, Greek yogurt, kind of cheese peanut butter those you can get healthy fats from so that's kind of a nice We want to get that combination of protein healthy fats other things that you could do are like adding avocado slices or If you're doing hard boiled eggs, you'll get some fat from the yolk, or adding a handful of nuts sprinkling chia seeds, hemp seeds, flax seeds on anything.
- 15:35baylee: So, kind of like the peanut butter and jelly, some ways you can have your OG peanut butter and jelly, but I've seen some ways to...
- 15:42baylee: Spice it up a little bit.
- 15:44baylee: So Dana, one of the, shout out to Dana, one of the other metabolism makeover coaches.
- 15:48baylee: She sprinkled hemp seeds on her son's peanut butter and jelly.
- 15:52baylee: He didn't even realize it.
- 15:55baylee: And it bumps up the
- 15:55brianna: is.
- 15:56brianna: Yeah.
- 15:57brianna: And that's the thing too.
- 15:58brianna: Like I encourage you just to like, try it.
- 16:00brianna: And I know it's like frustrating if like you get your kids lunch bell back and like, Oh, they didn't eat it.
- 16:05brianna: But you never know, like all of a sudden they might start liking something.
- 16:09brianna: So like, yeah, the hemp seeds, they probably won't even notice.
- 16:12brianna: I've done that with like chia seeds on stuff.
- 16:14brianna: My kids have no idea, but I'm like, Ooh, like little extra nutrients in there for you, you know, like, that's okay.
- 16:21brianna: You brought up the avocado.
- 16:22brianna: And I think it's so funny because I randomly one day I was like, just picking through like, whatever we had left over.
- 16:30brianna: It was like a Friday.
- 16:31brianna: And I was like, okay, we have avocado, like I'm going to throw it in his lunch.
- 16:33brianna: And I sprinkled some everything but the bagel seasoning.
- 16:36brianna: And I was like, he probably won't eat it.
- 16:37brianna: But at least him sending him to school, the option, he came home and was like.
- 16:41brianna: I want an avocado every day.
- 16:43brianna: Well, I might've started something cause those are expensive, but I'm like, Hey
- 16:47baylee: He's boujee.
- 16:48brianna: it, he is bougie.
- 16:50brianna: He's like, can I have shrimp?
- 16:51brianna: I'm like, no, you can't have shrimp.
- 16:53brianna: That's my older son.
- 16:54brianna: I'm like, what am I?
- 16:57brianna: Yeah.
- 16:57brianna: I'm like following all these, like, what's in your lunchbox pages.
- 17:01brianna: And these moms are just like, so extra.
- 17:02brianna: I'm like, this is a beautiful lunch.
- 17:05brianna: But I won't be doing that.
- 17:06baylee: Not happening.
- 17:07baylee: Yeah.
- 17:08brianna: can do it.
- 17:10baylee: Try out different things.
- 17:11baylee: And I also, I think it helps, too, to not bring so much attention to it.
- 17:15baylee: Where, like you just said, you kind of just sent it with him.
- 17:18baylee: You weren't like, alright, I put an avocado in there, and I sprinkled this on there.
- 17:22baylee: It's going to be really great for you.
- 17:24baylee: It's going to have some great healthy fats.
- 17:25baylee: It's going to have some fiber.
- 17:26baylee: And you're going to enjoy it, and you're going to love it.
- 17:28baylee: And I hope you just enjoy it.
- 17:29baylee: It changes your life, like, you just did it.
- 17:32brianna: And he came home and like loved it.
- 17:34brianna: I was like, wow.
- 17:35brianna: Yeah.
- 17:35brianna: And you know what?
- 17:36brianna: That's so true.
- 17:36brianna: Cause kids are like that.
- 17:37brianna: Like, it's almost like if you draw too much attention to it, they're like, I don't want to do this.
- 17:41brianna: So.
- 17:42brianna: You never know what you're going to get.
- 17:44brianna: Something that I found really helpful, because I have, my youngest is a picky eater, and I never really had that issue before.
- 17:50brianna: Like, my two older kids are, they're not that picky.
- 17:53brianna: They're random, but they're not that picky.
- 17:55brianna: My youngest one, like, He does really well if I give him options.
- 18:00brianna: So instead of being like, what do you want for lunch today?
- 18:03brianna: Like that's too overwhelming.
- 18:05brianna: I'll be like, Hey, for your fruit, like, do you want grapes or do you want some strawberries?
- 18:09brianna: And I kind of like let him pick out of two options that I'm giving.
- 18:14brianna: Like I've already decided, I already know what we have.
- 18:16brianna: Okay.
- 18:16brianna: You do it.
- 18:16brianna: And then he's much more likely.
- 18:19brianna: I don't know why that is like, which is great.
- 18:21brianna: Like autonomy you get to pick, but at least it's like within reason.
- 18:24brianna: Cause if you ask your kid at six in the morning, what do you want for lunch?
- 18:27brianna: You're going to be very upset because you're tired and it's going to be something you don't have.
- 18:32brianna: And it's going to be like a whole thing.
- 18:33brianna: And then when they're like, why didn't I get this for lunch?
- 18:35brianna: And you're like, I didn't have it.
- 18:36brianna: It's just a whole thing,
- 18:37baylee: I like that, giving them options.
- 18:39baylee: And we actually had a metabolism makeover meeting with all the coaches last night.
- 18:43baylee: And we talked about that too, which is doing two options.
- 18:46baylee: We all did our human design.
- 18:48baylee: But even as adults doing two options is so much easier.
- 18:52baylee: And we talked about, you know, like when you're talking about going out to eat, you're like, where do you want to eat?
- 18:57baylee: And we're like,
- 18:58brianna: it.
- 18:58brianna: It's me.
- 18:59baylee: There's so many options, I have no idea.
- 19:02baylee: And this is something I do because Josh will ask me all the time, he's like, What do you want to eat?
- 19:05baylee: I'm like, give me like, options.
- 19:09brianna: Yeah.
- 19:09brianna: Choose a couple for me.
- 19:11brianna: And then I'll go
- 19:11baylee: And then I'll do
- 19:12brianna: if like, all is my oyster, I'm not going to know.
- 19:14baylee: it.
- 19:14baylee: Mm hmm.
- 19:29brianna: about this But I know in our lives we talked about this a lot Like it can take a while for kids or even us to decide if we like something So if you tried putting in some sweet peppers in their lunch this week, and they didn't eat them.
- 19:43brianna: Don't give up Keep offering it, at least it's there, and that's something I do often, and I always tell my kids, don't throw away whatever you didn't eat, bring it home, and we can save it, or I'll eat it, or like, your dad will eat it, or whatever, but at least it's offered in there, so I offer them something I know they're gonna eat, I know they like, and then something that I'm like, well, I'm hopeful, maybe they'll...
- 20:01brianna: Be extra hungry and they'll actually just eat the tomatoes today, you know
- 20:05baylee: And you don't have to send an entire bell pepper, slice it up, send two slices of it.
- 20:11baylee: And Even as an adult like I do a variety of vegetables because I don't like to eat Two cups of carrots like i'll do some bell peppers I'll do some cherry tomatoes some carrots to get up to like two cups of vegetables and it makes it a lot more Enjoyable, I guess
- 20:27brianna: Another thing that could be helpful if you're like wanting them to eat more whole foods Is send some sort of dip like there's ranch cups You can make your own like greek yogurt with like some ranch seasoning or french onion seasoning I made that the Like s'mores dip like that's it full of protein, but tastes delicious Like even my dad will eat that and he just doesn't eat anything that he thinks is good for him It's like against his beliefs, but you know, like send a dip, something that could be fun.
- 20:58brianna: It doesn't cancel out nutrients.
- 21:00brianna: It increases the amount of nutrients that they're eating.
- 21:02brianna: It really does.
- 21:03brianna: So make it fun, find a dip that they like.
- 21:06brianna: And if it, if they end up like drenching something in ranch, well at least they're eating it.
- 21:10brianna: I
- 21:11baylee: Even things like the guacamole.
- 21:13baylee: If someone doesn't like avocado, some people even will like the guacamole just because the texture differences, maybe the seasoning.
- 21:20baylee: So trying out foods in different ways is helpful as well.
- 21:25baylee: So.
- 21:26baylee: Talked about protein, talked about healthy fat and we started kind of talking about the fiber piece of meals, so getting in the fruit, berries, I think are really easy because you don't really have to cut them, they're just wash and go.
- 21:39baylee: You could do apple slices, cutting those usually helps before sending them to school.
- 21:43baylee: And then you could do like orange slices, you could do banana, make sure they know how to peel it if you're sending it for kids.
- 21:49baylee: Make sure it's packed on like tops so it's not getting mushed.
- 21:53brianna: wish she banana.
- 21:55baylee: Dried fruit is also an option.
- 21:57baylee: I always look for ones that have little to no added sugar because, I mean, some of the dried fruit has like over 20 grams of added sugar, so at that point it's basically candy.
- 22:06brianna: yeah, especially the like mango and stuff like that But if you can find what I know trader joe's has some good options.
- 22:12brianna: Costco occasionally, of course I don't I only recommend that if you like really like dried fruit or you have a bigger family because then you'll have like a 10 pound bag of
- 22:21baylee: Yeah.
- 22:21brianna: banana chips, but But those are a great option They're lunch pail friendly and they're also easy to travel with like for you if you're like, hey I'm gonna grab something on the go Keep it in the car or whatever.
- 22:34brianna: Those are all great options to have fiber on the go.
- 22:36baylee: I bring those a lot for travel, I would say.
- 22:38baylee: Or for, if I'm working out after work, I'll bring those for like a pre workout snack.
- 22:42baylee: The Bayer brand, B A R E, is my favorite.
- 22:46baylee: They have the apple chips, no added sugars.
- 22:48baylee: They have a cinnamon flavor and those are very tasty.
- 22:52brianna: Oh yeah, I've seen those.
- 22:53brianna: They have like the little individual bags of'em
- 22:56baylee: Yeah, they have those.
- 22:56baylee: I just buy the one big bag, I guess.
- 22:59brianna: Yeah.
- 23:01baylee: So yes, getting your fruit in.
- 23:02baylee: Veggies, veggies that are good to pack.
- 23:05baylee: Baby carrots.
- 23:06baylee: Snap peas, cherry tomatoes, slicing of bell peppers, cucumbers, celery.
- 23:11baylee: Those are usually ones that are easy to pack.
- 23:13baylee: And also just easy to dip into things.
- 23:17baylee: I think dips really do help.
- 23:18baylee: Don't be afraid of the dips.
- 23:19baylee: They get a kind of a bad reputation too.
- 23:22brianna: they do, and I don't know why, like I love a good dip.
- 23:24brianna: I'll eat almost anything if it has like a good dip.
- 23:27baylee: hmm.
- 23:27baylee: I love hummus.
- 23:29baylee: Hummus is my big thing lately.
- 23:30brianna: Hummus.
- 23:31brianna: There's different flavors of hummus too.
- 23:33brianna: You can even get sweeter ones or
- 23:35baylee: Mm hmm.
- 23:37brianna: whatever it is, like play around with it.
- 23:39brianna: Try some new stuff out.
- 23:40brianna: Don't be scared.
- 23:41brianna: And this again, all these options that we're giving you for school lunches, this is like what I do for lunches when I'm going somewhere, I pack like a snack plate type thing.
- 23:52brianna: That's just like what I do.
- 23:52brianna: A bunch of stuff that you can just grab, throw together.
- 23:55brianna: It gives you that balance.
- 23:57brianna: You don't have to put much effort into it.
- 23:59brianna: You don't have to cook really anything and you can go.
- 24:01baylee: And while we do want variety in our meals, don't put so much pressure on yourself to have a completely different meal every single day.
- 24:08baylee: I mean, most of my meals, they're pretty much the same.
- 24:13baylee: There's maybe like one ingredient, you know, that's different.
- 24:17baylee: Tacos, for example, we have tacos like every week, but it could be an, a tortilla or it could be a taco salad.
- 24:23baylee: It could be, Nacho style, you know, just the same type of dish, but in a different way.
- 24:30baylee: And I think this can work for lunches too, even thinking of a sandwich for example.
- 24:35baylee: Instead of doing like mayonnaise and turkey and salami, you could do smashed avocado, turkey, and ham.
- 24:47baylee: I don't know, just
- 24:48brianna: Yeah.
- 24:49baylee: switch up the combinations.
- 24:50baylee: It doesn't, there's not really any rules there.
- 24:53baylee: But just making that little change at lunch will give you a little bit of variety.
- 24:57baylee: It'll change up the nutrients a little bit.
- 24:59baylee: Boom.
- 25:00baylee: Easy.
- 25:00baylee: Still same concept.
- 25:01baylee: Getting variety.
- 25:03baylee: Or even adding different vegetables to your lunch.
- 25:06baylee: Adding a cucumber on it or adding tomato.
- 25:09baylee: Something to have that crunch.
- 25:10baylee: Arugula is another thing I'm really into right now.
- 25:13baylee: That's a good one to add onto a sandwich, or just having the same sandwich, switching up your vegetables that you do with your dip, just switching up one thing.
- 25:22baylee: And I think that helps, I've talked about this with metabolism makeover people, because you have a meal plan available that you can use, but you can make that more variety by just changing up the vegetable, changing up the type of meat, changing up the starchy carb, anything like that.
- 25:39brianna: Yeah.
- 25:39brianna: That's usually what we do.
- 25:40brianna: Like we pick, we'll have like the same entree for lunch all week.
- 25:45brianna: Like the entree is the same, but I'll pick like a couple of sides.
- 25:49brianna: Like maybe the fruit and vegetables, like you said, or whatever side we do, I'll do like two options.
- 25:54brianna: So like half the week you have one, the other half you have two, but the entree is the same.
- 25:59brianna: That's super easy.
- 25:59brianna: And you're just like switching up some of the other nutrients.
- 26:02brianna: I think that could be really helpful.
- 26:05brianna: I guess if you're someone who like doesn't love eating the same thing every day, like maybe that won't work for you.
- 26:10brianna: But for a lot of people like you can get away with it with lunch.
- 26:13brianna: I feel like you know with lunch you can have similar things for a couple of days and that's
- 26:17baylee: Okay.
- 26:18brianna: totally fine.
- 26:19baylee: Yeah, I would say leftovers are my definitely go to.
- 26:22brianna: And honestly I tell clients this all the time.
- 26:25brianna: If you're gonna be making dinner, you're already in the kitchen.
- 26:28brianna: You're already cooking.
- 26:29brianna: Don't ever just make enough for that one meal.
- 26:33brianna: Like that is such a waste of your time.
- 26:35brianna: Okay.
- 26:35brianna: You're already in there, make a double portion and then boom, that's lunch for the next couple of days.
- 26:41brianna: Leftovers, snack plates, factor meals.
- 26:43brianna: Like if I did not have that, I wouldn't have a plan.
- 26:46brianna: It just wouldn't be happening.
- 26:47brianna: I'm not going to be making a gourmet lunch every single day.
- 26:49baylee: Yeah, I don't know how people just don't like leftovers.
- 26:53baylee: I love them.
- 26:54baylee: They, like, marinate more.
- 26:56brianna: Yeah, especially if it was like something warm, you know, I love, I love leftovers, but yeah, I'm telling clients like do not waste your time.
- 27:05brianna: If you're already in the kitchen, make it worth your while because nobody wants to be in the kitchen three times a day, seven days a week for an hour, hour and a half.
- 27:14brianna: Like that's wild.
- 27:15baylee: Mm hmm.
- 27:16baylee: Yeah, just keep it simple.
- 27:18baylee: Life will be fine.
- 27:20baylee: It keeps on moving.
- 27:22baylee: Eat a sandwich.
- 27:23baylee: Sandwiches aren't bad either.
- 27:25baylee: We could do a whole episode, I feel like, on sandwiches with all the misconceptions around
- 27:30brianna: I love sandwiches.
- 27:31brianna: You can do all kinds of stuff with sandwiches.
- 27:34brianna: That was like my thing over the summer.
- 27:35brianna: I got really like interest, like peaches.
- 27:39brianna: Let me see how many things I can add peaches to.
- 27:41brianna: Sandwiches are one of
- 27:42baylee: hmm.
- 27:42baylee: Mm hmm.
- 27:44baylee: Yes.
- 27:45baylee: Even thinking about the sandwiches, you can do a wrap.
- 27:49baylee: Whole, a whole different cuisine.
- 27:52brianna: yep, put it in a bowl.
- 27:53baylee: Put it in a bowl.
- 27:55baylee: Put it in a cup.
- 27:57brianna: Yeah, there's so many things.
- 27:59brianna: Work smarter, not harder.
- 28:01brianna: That's my go to.
- 28:02brianna: So, if you're someone like, I know my husband is like this, he cannot put together meals on his own.
- 28:08brianna: Like, he's just like, I don't want to do it.
- 28:11brianna: I don't know how you do it.
- 28:12brianna: You just walk into the kitchen and figure it out.
- 28:13brianna: Like, so I totally get that.
- 28:15brianna: Think of like.
- 28:17brianna: Just being very simple.
- 28:20brianna: Chicken.
- 28:21brianna: Shredded chicken.
- 28:22brianna: What can you put that on?
- 28:23brianna: You can literally add that to anything.
- 28:25brianna: So that's why I like the idea of snack plates, because he can go in there and like, if I have stuff to put on a plate, he can figure that out.
- 28:31brianna: But like when it comes to meals, he just gets overwhelmed and he's like, I don't know, you just walk in there and figure it out.
- 28:36brianna: And so I know there's a lot of people like struggling with that.
- 28:38brianna: And I think even though we make very simple meals, I think we really understand how to put together a meal.
- 28:45brianna: So for us, it's like, oh, it's so simple.
- 28:47brianna: So.
- 28:48brianna: I know for everyone that that's not the case.
- 28:51brianna: If so, just take it bit by bit.
- 28:55brianna: Just easy peasy.
- 28:56brianna: Just think of like very simple things.
- 28:59baylee: You'll get there.
- 28:59baylee: It takes time, it takes practice, it takes consistency, and it may take some help.
- 29:04baylee: And that's what we're here for.
- 29:06brianna: And I'm gonna get better at it.
- 29:07brianna: I'm gonna get better at sharing things on my Instagrams that you guys have ideas.
- 29:12brianna: I just, just know it might not be pretty.
- 29:14brianna: So if you're someone who's like, I love very pretty meals.
- 29:17brianna: Cause I do too, I definitely appreciate that, like if I'm at a restaurant, I totally get it.
- 29:21brianna: But at home, it's not so much.
- 29:25baylee: Sometimes my meals are just so random too, based on what I have.
- 29:28baylee: I think, like the other night, I mean, I had eggs, a pancake, carrots, and radishes.
- 29:35brianna: Oh yeah, I do that all the time, especially if like you're nearing the end of the week, and you gotta like, put things together, like, I'll be like, ooh, let's have some, like, I don't know, eggs, over like these potatoes and like random asparagus, and then also I have these grapes in the fridge, like it's just so, but it works.
- 29:54baylee: Eggs and potatoes, like roasted potatoes, such a good combination.
- 29:58baylee: Like, if you do roasted potatoes for dinner, make extra for breakfast or for your lunch.
- 30:04baylee: Do a yolky egg on top of it and let it explode on your potatoes.
- 30:09baylee: Add some nutritional yeast to it, maybe some microgreens.
- 30:12baylee: Wow.
- 30:13brianna: Yeah, ooh I like that, microgreens with like maybe a little bit of feta.
- 30:17baylee: Mm hmm.
- 30:18baylee: Well, I would die with the feta, so I don't do that.
- 30:22brianna: Everybody else who eats dairy, Bailey's like, no, I'm not my
- 30:26baylee: It won't be good.
- 30:28brianna: so.
- 30:29brianna: And honestly, that's another good, that's just such a random thing, but I feel like nutritional yeast is almost like my new chia seeds.
- 30:35brianna: Cause I love putting chia seeds on everything, but I've really gotten into nutritional yeast too.
- 30:39brianna: Cause it ups.
- 30:41brianna: The protein.
- 30:42brianna: It's super easy.
- 30:43baylee: B vitamins.
- 30:45brianna: Yep.
- 30:45brianna: Sprinkle it on everything.
- 30:47baylee: Little bit of fiber.
- 30:48baylee: I will say, this is my little warning to everyone that I recommend nutritional yeast to.
- 30:53baylee: It looks like fish food.
- 30:54baylee: But, it tastes like parmesan cheese, I would say.
- 30:58brianna: It does.
- 30:58brianna: It tastes cheesy, which I mean, I guess some people find that kind of gross, but whatever.
- 31:04baylee: Whatever.
- 31:04baylee: Like I said, my food doesn't always look pretty.
- 31:06baylee: Sometimes it looks like I have fish food on my spaghetti, but it's fine.
- 31:10baylee: Sometimes my smoothies look like diarrhea, but they taste really good.
- 31:14brianna: I know.
- 31:14brianna: That's why half the time I'm not posting things.
- 31:16brianna: I'm like, well, this doesn't look
- 31:18baylee: I swear it tastes amazing.
- 31:21brianna: good.
- 31:22brianna: So, yeah, this is just like your reminder to keep it simple.
- 31:26brianna: Prep what you can at the beginning of the week.
- 31:28brianna: You don't have to be in your kitchen for four hours cooking, but just do something that's going to make your life easier.
- 31:34brianna: If cutting up some veggies at the beginning of the week to use for dinner and lunch is easier, do it.
- 31:39brianna: If prepping a little bit of like grab and go breakfast is going to help do it.
- 31:43brianna: If prepping your, Carrie, she's one of the metabolism makeover coaches too.
- 31:47brianna: She posted an amazing reel of like how she preps for kids school lunches.
- 31:53brianna: At the beginning of the week.
- 31:54brianna: And it really is life changing.
- 31:56brianna: Like I'll make sure to share that when we share this episode, like so many good options do what's going to be best for you.
- 32:04brianna: And don't worry if it doesn't look pretty or doesn't look complicated
- 32:08baylee: And also doing those clear buckets, like the organizational ones for the fridge or the freezer, those are very helpful.
- 32:15baylee: Put some protein options in one, put some fruit options, put some vegetable options and the other and just have your kids pick one from each boom
- 32:23brianna: for me.
- 32:24brianna: Yeah.
- 32:24brianna: That's what she does.
- 32:25brianna: And I will say that is
- 32:28baylee: Mm hmm or have your husband or your boyfriend pick one from each and it works.
- 32:33brianna: grab one from every bin.
- 32:35brianna: And then have, you know, snacks in the pantry that you've already thought about grab two or three, however many your kids need.
- 32:43brianna: Make it simple.
- 32:43baylee: So Enjoy your lunches this week.
- 32:47baylee: I know our episodes air on Thursday So we're coming towards the end of the week But I think it's perfect timing to to do some grocery shopping over the weekend Get all set for come Monday morning when you're going back to work, sending his back to school.
- 32:59baylee: Whatever stage of life that you're in for packing lunches.
- 33:02baylee: And tag us in what you pack.
- 33:05baylee: Oh, we did have our first little that was fun.
- 33:08brianna: Oh yeah.
- 33:09brianna: Yeah, we did.
- 33:10brianna: Shout out to that.
- 33:11brianna: Yeah.
- 33:11brianna: We love to hear like what you guys are taking from the episodes.
- 33:14brianna: So send us a DM on Instagram, tag us, whatever it is.
- 33:19brianna: We want to know like what you're taking from it.
- 33:21brianna: What's working for you.
- 33:22brianna: it makes me happy.
- 33:23baylee: So thanks for being along on the journey with us.
- 33:25baylee: Thanks for licking, listening episode.
- 33:29baylee: Man, these outros, they're just, they'll get there.
- 33:34brianna: Yeah.
- 33:34brianna: I don't
- 33:35baylee: Thank you for listening.
- 33:37baylee: Come back again soon.
- 33:39brianna: know.
- 33:39brianna: That reminded me of the, will you be my neighbor guy?
- 33:43baylee: Yes.
- 33:45brianna: Just back soon.
- 33:46baylee: back soon.
- 33:48baylee: And we will talk to you next week.
- 33:51brianna: Bye.
- 33:52baylee: Bye everyone.
