- Jessica Figueroa: Hello everyone, my name is Cindy Marlar. You're listening to the Just For Today podcast. There's a normal everywhere we go. When you go to a school, when you go to a doctor's office, when you go to a camp, when you live in a neighborhood, there is the normal, what the majority does. And sometimes when we're acting outside of what the majority does, we experience conflict because we don't know what the norm is. So I want to give you an example. When I had a double mastectomy, The norm is to go ahead in the surgery that you're getting the double mastectomy and get implants put in. And I didn't want to do that because I wanted to, I needed more time, frankly. I needed more time to make that decision. And of course, the double mastectomy was a time-pressing matter. Cancer is. And I just needed time. However, that was not the norm. The majority of people get the implants at the same time they're getting the demomastectomy. So at several appointments and getting to the hospital, it kept coming up. And I just had to mention, no, I'm not doing that. no, I'm not doing that. Because the people weren't, no one was trying to force me or talk me into it or do anything. But again, it was just the normal. Same if you let's say, if you do anything outside of the normal in your life, you might have to mention, hey, like you know, if you're serving me that, I don't eat meat. You know, you have to might have to mention it. So, what are the things in your life that you're a little bit of an outlier? We all have things that we're an outlier in. And if you are an outlier, you're doing something that's not the majority, the majority being 80%. You might have to explain yourself. And you might have to explain yourself to people. But that doesn't always mean they're attacking you, they're attacking your choice. Often you're just going against the grain. I know as a homeschooling family, that is less traditional. So people have questions, they have comments, they have advice. It doesn't mean they're attacking my choice. It doesn't mean that they think what I'm doing is wrong. It's just outside of the traditional path. So you have things in your life you are doing that are outside the traditional path. And if they are, you don't have to get defensive, you don't have to get angry, and you don't have to justify. What if you just take a minute to explain? But that comes with an understanding that you are the outlier in that scenario. So I want you to spend some time thinking, maybe driving in the car, doing your hair, taking a shower. Where in your life do you do things that are outside the majority in the 80%? And just be aware so then when it comes up and you feel friction, you can appreciate that that's not friction. That's just people being curious. Because people are curious, and that's a good thing. Think about George. Let's think about George today. And just for today, let's realize where we're the outliers. I'll talk to you guys tomorrow, bye.
