- 0:00Shop Talk is one of the largest commerce conferences in the world, bringing together thousands of founders, operators and retail leaders who are actively building what comes next.
- 0:12Today's episode comes to you from the floor of Shop Talk Spring 2026 in Las Vegas, where I caught up with some of the sharpest operators and founders in retail.
- 0:25Let's get into it.
- 0:30All right, Dave Gulas back here at Shop Talk and I'm with Danielle Satterwhite from the Lifecycle Lab.
- 0:36Hey, Danielle.
- 0:37Hi.
- 0:38Nice to meet you or nice to see you.
- 0:40Yes, yes.
- 0:40Glad we could connect and do this.
- 0:42So, Danielle, you've got quite an impressive resume with big enterprise brands within the retail and e commerce ecosystem.
- 0:51You've been with Amazon, with Meta, most recently with TikTok Shop, and now you've launched your own agency to help brands with growth.
- 1:01Right.
- 1:01So let's talk about the Lifecycle Lab and what you do.
- 1:06Yes, so I focus on life cycle marketing or customer marketing.
- 1:10So that's anything post acquisition.
- 1:13I'm talking about the emails that you send out for your welcome series talking about loyalty.
- 1:18I'm talking about retention.
- 1:20Retention is the big name of the game and using the different channels, including email and SMS and push and the website to keep customers engaged.
- 1:31Yeah.
- 1:31And we hear, I hear so much about, particularly with brands in the e commerce space, about how much people are paying for the first sale and then they're not retaining those customers.
- 1:42It's almost like it's a big waste when you look at that.
- 1:47So why is it so important with what you do to, I guess, talk about what you do and how it helps brands?
- 1:56Yeah.
- 1:57So Most brands, especially D2C brands, are focusing on acquisition.
- 2:03They're focusing on focusing on getting those new customers because, you know, let's be honest, that's what investors are asking for.
- 2:09That's what seems important on, you know, the spreadsheets.
- 2:13You always want to get new customers.
- 2:15But like you said, if you're getting 100 new customers but only one new customer makes a repeat purchase, then you're losing 99 potential customers that you paid for.
- 2:28So by me, focusing on your retention efforts, which I do through email, through website, through subscription feature updates, then you are saving on your customer acquisition costs.
- 2:42So it's costing you less to acquire new customers and you're increasing your customer lifetime value.
- 2:48Okay.
- 2:48And how would you say your experience at these big corporate e comm giants has really helped you now that you're on your own as an agency?
- 2:58Yeah.
- 2:58So it's been a really, really great experience.
- 3:01Just Learning from how the big guys do it.
- 3:04They have all of the resources in the world, but the thing is that a lot of them build their own tools.
- 3:11So I would use a homegrown CRM, homegrown tool for targeting and segmentation for text messaging.
- 3:20And by helping the companies build these tools, I understand exactly what's important.
- 3:27I also understand how to reach massive customer bases.
- 3:31So at TikTok shop, I was in charge of reaching out to our customers, which are shoppers on TikTok shop, as well as our creators as well as sellers.
- 3:43We had millions of sellers.
- 3:47So I think just learning from the frameworks and the resources of the really large companies has really put me in that vantage.
- 3:57And so now when I'm working with the smaller companies, I understand, like the smallest, like the mvp, the smallest change you can make to have the biggest impact.
- 4:07Since I've done everything, you know, I've tried it all.
- 4:10Okay.
- 4:11All right.
- 4:12And so given what you do now, why is it so important for an agency like yours to be here at Shop Talk?
- 4:18Oh, my gosh, it's so important.
- 4:20You meet so many great people.
- 4:23This is my second day here, my first time at Shop Talk, and I've already made a lot of really great connections with people that I'm sure that I'll work with in the future.
- 4:33I'm meeting a lot of potential retailers as well as other types of partners.
- 4:39Got the opportunity to do this podcast here, so it's of the utmost importance that you attend conferences like Shop Talk.
- 4:48Okay.
- 4:49And couldn't let this interview not talk.
- 4:53I couldn't not talk about AI because AI is the subject of everything here.
- 4:57There's so many AI companies.
- 4:58Everyone's talking about it.
- 5:00How do you see AI affecting commerce, retail commerce and E commerce in the coming year?
- 5:08Yes.
- 5:08So hot take.
- 5:10I am in DTC E Commerce because I feel like AI is going to help DTC Commerce.
- 5:18It's going to help everyone except for SaaS.
- 5:21Companies are going to take a hit from all of the AI, but there's going to be more retail.
- 5:27There will be more physical goods because people are craving authenticity and real things and analog.
- 5:35So I think that's the space to be in.
- 5:37And AI is just going to help with things like personalization and of course, agentic AI just being able to do things and being able to do things like shop through.
- 5:47Through your AI tool.
- 5:50And for people like me, with an agency of one, it is a lifesaver.
- 5:54I get so much done with my team of AI.
- 5:59Okay, all right.
- 5:59And Danielle, if People want to find out more about you and potentially work with you.
- 6:03What's the best way people can reach out?
- 6:05Absolutely.
- 6:05Again, my name is Danielle Satterlight with the Lifecycle Lab and my website is lifecycle labmarketing.com.
- 6:13So please visit me there.
- 6:14Okay.
- 6:14So much, Danielle.
- 6:15Thanks so much.
- 6:16Thank you.
- 6:18All right, back here at Shop Talk, and I am with Marco from Loop Returns.
- 6:22Hey, Marco, how's it going?
- 6:23Hey.
- 6:24Fantastic.
- 6:24How about you?
- 6:25Doing well.
- 6:25Thank you.
- 6:26So, Shop Talk, the show just kicked off.
- 6:28The energy here is crazy for a company like Loop that's been around for a while.
- 6:33Why do you guys come to Shop Talk?
- 6:35A variety of reasons.
- 6:36I mean, we have a lot of customers that we get to meet and talk to, a lot of prospects that we also get to interact with where active conversations are happening or new ones are starting.
- 6:45We have a lot of partners here as well.
- 6:47And so it's a great way to kind of, let's say, get a lot of things done in one efficient and jam packed week.
- 6:55So, yeah, it's super productive for us.
- 6:57Okay.
- 6:58All right.
- 6:58And AI is all the rage here at the show.
- 7:00So many AI companies themselves and everybody's talking about what, what AI they have and what it's doing.
- 7:07So I mean, from your perspective, how have you seen AI change E commerce over the past year?
- 7:13I mean, definitely from a marketing and positioning perspective, everyone's leaning into it and everyone's trying to, I don't know if you want to say, win the race, but get ahead of the curve for sure.
- 7:24But most importantly, I think what I always look at and what I always ask is how is it making things more valuable for customers and for clients?
- 7:32I think some platforms have been able to prove it out, some are still trying to figure it out.
- 7:35We're seeing a lot of value ourselves within our product and with our customers.
- 7:39So basically it's just something that you have to adopt and get with the times.
- 7:43And if you're not evolving, then you're going to fall behind.
- 7:47And everyone is really at that point where they're trying to figure it out, get it implemented and drive back as best they can.
- 7:53And there's still a lot that remains to be seen.
- 7:56Okay.
- 7:56All right.
- 7:56And so if people are not familiar with Loop, talk about what you do and how you help your customers.
- 8:01Yeah, for sure.
- 8:02Loop is a post purchase operations platform that's really like focused on retention.
- 8:07So we started with returns, got into tracking, now have order editing, package protection, checkout plus and other things within the checkout to continue to Improve repeat purchases, customer lifetime value, and overall make the most of the customer that
- 8:25brands work so hard and spend so much money to acquire to improve that experience and retain them and then continue to drive great experiences with them that are going to drive more revenue for brands.
- 8:36Okay, Absolutely.
- 8:38If people want to get in touch, what's the best way they can do?
- 8:40So loopreturns.com you can find plenty more information on our sites.
- 8:44You can speak with one of your vendors.
- 8:46We're probably partnered with them or integrated with them as well.
- 8:49And yeah, we're excited to hear from you.
- 8:50And if you're at Shop Talk, you can go stop by our booth.
- 8:53Okay, thanks so much, Marco.
- 8:58All right.
- 8:58Back here at Shop Talk out here with Harry from V Rocket.
- 9:02Hey, Harry.
- 9:03Hey, how's it going?
- 9:04Fantastic.
- 9:04Fantastic.
- 9:05All right, so we're here on the floor.
- 9:07The show is buzzing.
- 9:08So much traffic, so many people.
- 9:10Why is it important to be in an event like Shop Talk?
- 9:12So you guys don't have.
- 9:13Well, I, I think Shop Talk does a.
- 9:15A phenomenal job at connecting, you know, a ton of brands around the world all into one location.
- 9:22Sometimes it's difficult to get the opportunity to connect people virtually, but we're here in a good spot.
- 9:26There's some great people here.
- 9:28And to get that facial interaction and just be able to connect with them, hear some of their thoughts on the space, is always a good opportunity.
- 9:36We're happy to be out here.
- 9:37Absolutely.
- 9:38Okay.
- 9:38And so Log Rocket.
- 9:41Yeah, so we, we're a session replay platform.
- 9:43We're used by a lot of e commerce and digital teams to help get a better understanding of how users engage with their site in mobile applications, helping them point out issues, giving them that video playback to provide some
- 9:57qualitative context in what's actually happening in the user experience.
- 10:01Okay, and you were just telling me about what a session replay actually is.
- 10:05So in essence, it's basically AI that's monitoring your site and going through different sessions to make sure if there's issues, if there's something frustrating, user, you can capture and correct all that data without having to manually monitor everything.
- 10:23Yeah, 100%.
- 10:24Like, just an example that comes top of mind.
- 10:26Like Macy's, they're big.
- 10:28They have a big online presence.
- 10:30I know they're here at the show.
- 10:31So what someone from Macy's would use Log Robert for is understanding how a user is navigating through their website, how they're creating their purchases, and if they drop off the website and don't fulfill a purchase, LogRocket helps explain
- 10:47why that didn't happen.
- 10:49Okay.
- 10:50All right.
- 10:50And so the big buzzword, of course, in the show is AI startups everywhere.
- 10:56Everybody's talking about their gen tickets, tools and solutions and how that all works.
- 11:01Being in the industry yourself, how do you see AI changing retail up over the next.
- 11:07Yeah, I mean, it's going to change it a lot, obviously.
- 11:10It's going to make things a lot more direct and quick from a purchase standpoint.
- 11:15You can do all your research with AI from a software aspect, which is the area that LogRocket specializes in.
- 11:23We can loop in AI into our products to make it easier for the user to actually use the software and navigation.
- 11:31So definitely a big game changer.
- 11:33Okay.
- 11:33All right.
- 11:34And people want to find out more about Log Rocket and how they can potentially connect with you.
- 11:39Yeah, I mean, we have a blog.
- 11:41There's the Log Rocket Blog, where we're, you know, posting plenty of insights from what we hear with the leaders we connect with in the space.
- 11:49We have a podcast, it's called the.
- 11:51The Launchpad.
- 11:52Feel free to check that out.
- 11:54My VP of marketing, Jeff Wharton, runs that.
- 11:56Or just hit us up on LinkedIn.
- 11:58Always happy to chat.
- 12:00Okay, thanks so much, Harry.
- 12:01Yeah, appreciate it.
- 12:04All right, back here again at Shop Talk, I'm with Jack from Briscoe Pine.
- 12:09Hi, Jack, how are you?
- 12:10Hey, fantastic.
- 12:11How about you?
- 12:12Doing well.
- 12:13First.
- 12:14First Shop Talk.
- 12:14So super excited to be here.
- 12:16Yeah, likewise.
- 12:17This is my first time here and the energy in this place is insane.
- 12:20So many people.
- 12:21It's all about E comm.
- 12:23Everyone in the industry says this is the place to be if you're in the Shopify world.
- 12:27Yes, sir.
- 12:28So tell us, what.
- 12:29What is risk of hype?
- 12:30What do you Riskify is an e commerce fraud prevention tool.
- 12:34So we sit at checkout and we approve or decline orders based on fraud risk.
- 12:38And if we end up approving an order that does result in a fraud chargeback, we actually reimburse the merchant for that order that we made a mistake of.
- 12:46Okay.
- 12:46So fraud has been a constant issue in E commerce and just shopping in general for so long.
- 12:54And it seems like the more technology.
- 12:56Evolves, the bad guys get smarter along with it.
- 12:59Right.
- 12:59So there's something constantly.
- 13:01So how has AI?
- 13:04Because AI is everywhere right now.
- 13:05How is that kind of evolved?
- 13:08Yeah, so we kind of like to say we were doing AI and ML before it was the buzzword that everyone was using.
- 13:13We've been doing it since our company started back in 2013.
- 13:18So we're kind of ahead of the curve.
- 13:20In terms of how we can combat against fraudsters using AI, because we use AI models.
- 13:27Okay.
- 13:27And what's the biggest thing these days?
- 13:29E commerce brands have to be concerned about with.
- 13:34So the big thing that they want to be concerned about is you want your approval rate as high as possible.
- 13:40So a lot of legacy grow tools, they're rules based, so they'll say if the shipping doesn't match the billing, we're going to decline this order.
- 13:47Whereas we're looking at data points across all different things, even down to the language on the keyboard.
- 13:55So we can say, hey, this shipping might not match the billing, but we know this is a good order because we've seen good orders from this person across our merchant network.
- 14:03Okay.
- 14:04And if people want to learn more and get in touch with us, the best way they can do so.
- 14:07I mean, you can come right by the booth here at Shop Talk or you can go to our website, risk5.com.
- 14:14Okay, thanks so much, Jack.
- 14:15Have a good one.
- 14:17All right.
- 14:17Back here at Shop Talk, I'm here with Georgia from Adroll.
- 14:21Hey, Georgia.
- 14:21Hi, Dave.
- 14:22How are you?
- 14:23I'm fantastic.
- 14:23How about you?
- 14:24Good.
- 14:25Love to be, Love to hear it.
- 14:26Love to be here.
- 14:27Yeah, so I, I had to stop by.
- 14:29There's so much commotion at your booth.
- 14:31You're doing free head shots.
- 14:33Yes, we are.
- 14:33I asked what's with the hats?
- 14:35Your colleague told me about the cowboy party hat up later on tonight.
- 14:40But let's talk about Shop Talk.
- 14:42So the energy of this show is amazing.
- 14:44The floor is buzzing.
- 14:45There's so many people here.
- 14:46Why is it so important if you're in retail to be in an event like this?
- 14:50You know, that's a great question, Dave.
- 14:51I think, I mean, this is a great networking opportunity for absolutely anyone in the AI marketing, like any kind of business aspect.
- 15:00For us specifically, we are an advertising platform.
- 15:02So anyone interested, if you're in the AI space or any kind of business looking to like expand their advertising capabilities, it's great to get business but also network, meet new people like Dave here.
- 15:12I mean, I never thought I would have ran into Dave.
- 15:14And here we are.
- 15:15Yes, yes, here we are.
- 15:16So of course you brought up AI.
- 15:18Yes.
- 15:18AI is absolutely everywhere.
- 15:21So many startups, everyone's talking about their AI.
- 15:24How do you see AI changing?
- 15:26Retail is coming in.
- 15:27Oh my goodness.
- 15:28That is a loaded question.
- 15:30I think, I mean, AI is changing everything drastically every day.
- 15:34I think specifically for retail, I think it's going to, I mean, I think everything's moving online.
- 15:40I think there's going to be a lot less foot traffic, traffic, more online traffic, more than, you know, in the past, even though that's even, even common now.
- 15:48But, you know, that is a good question and I look forward to maybe seeing what actually does come of that.
- 15:53Yeah.
- 15:54And I feel like everyone is such a race now to get ahead, to implement, and it's evolving, it's changing so quick.
- 16:01But I mean, just seeing what some of these people are doing, what's capable and what's possible, it's inspiring.
- 16:08Yeah.
- 16:09Oh, my gosh, absolutely.
- 16:10Yeah.
- 16:10And you meet people like, you know, like ourselves or any other.
- 16:14Any other here, and you learn something new every single time you talk to someone, which is awesome.
- 16:19And it's.
- 16:20I.
- 16:20It gets you excited for the future, honestly, because AI is powerful tool.
- 16:23So.
- 16:25All right, so now you guys have the Headshot Lounge here.
- 16:27You're giving away free head shots.
- 16:29Why is a good head shot so?
- 16:31Oh, for many, many reasons.
- 16:34I mean, LinkedIn is.
- 16:36I mean, social media AI is becoming so popular and to have a good head shot on LinkedIn is very important to gain the attention of not only people revisiting your profile, but who maybe might be in your business.
- 16:47If you're looking for a new job, it's always important to put your best foot forward.
- 16:51So we have the Headshot Lounge here to attract people to get, you know, new headshots so that they can do that.
- 16:57Okay.
- 16:57And so with AdRoll specifically, how do you stand out from competitors in terms of helping your customers get confident?
- 17:06You know, that is a great question.
- 17:08I think the number One thing about AdRoll is a lot of people come to us for customer support team.
- 17:13So we are going to hold your hand as little or as much as you'd like and we really just want the best for you at the end of the day.
- 17:20I mean, we specifically target retail, E Commerce, B2C companies, and essentially we want you to either, you know, gain, engage more customers who look like your audience currently or bring back those customers who maybe say, like, came to
- 17:37your site but didn't convert in whatever aspect that was.
- 17:40So, yeah, I think, I mean, we are just a very.
- 17:43We're a funnel for support.
- 17:44I really, really, truly think that.
- 17:47Okay, and if people want to learn more and potentially engage you for your services, what's the best way they can find you online?
- 17:52Go to adroll.com we have a B2C and a B2B website and we would love to connect with you, request a demo and we would love to talk to you.
- 17:59Okay, Georgia, thanks.
- 18:00So much, Dave.
- 18:01Thank you.
- 18:01Nice to meet you.
