- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: when we feel pain, really doing some sort of preading some sort of like, okay, hold on.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: What's my sleep like, what's my intake like, what's my fuel like, have I been consistent?
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know, just do some reflection.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the be it till you see it podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm also Logan, prize instructor, and fitness business coach.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_00]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Each week my guests will bring bold, executable, intrinsic and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it until you see it.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to the be it till you see interview break up on my coast and life Brad and I are going to dig into the empowering combo I had with Jen Fibroni in our last episode if you haven't yet listened to the interview you've missed out on incredible interview with doc Jen fit that's our Instagram handle or her handle everywhere so many of you love her know her and this was a really cool I thought very vulnerable combo as well she showed a lot about going on her life how she handles things I love when people are like
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: just a human.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's gonna be really good.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I can't wait to recap it.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: But before we do that, today is November 20th, 2025.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: And we have two days to celebrate.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: And to be honest, there was like seven.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: So we could have chosen a few.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: There was a few that I was like, well, I don't use less.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: So we can't use less day because I'm so not participating.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a couple others.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to focus
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: The American Cancer Society sponsors a great American smoke at on the third Thursday of November, annually, challenging smokers to give up cigarettes for 24 hours.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: If you are a loved one, smoke cigarettes, consider joining the movement and take the first step towards quitting cigarettes forever.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: How?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: Let's both try to do something tough for a day.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give up.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_02]: either coffee, sugar, social media, you are allowed to pitch this to them.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this is how you're going to pitch this to them.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: So this is how you're going to pitch it.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: So you're going to use you if you're non-smoker.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a smoker, then you can tell another smoker you're going to do it together.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're a non-smoker, asking a smoker, then you're going to say, I'm going to give up something they know you're going to have a hard time giving up for 24 hours.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, maybe it's Instagram.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: Instagram.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it's chocolate, cookie sugar.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: coffee, you know, something like that, and you give up smoking, then give it as a reset, not a rule.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: So, and that's what you can also tell them.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's a reset out of rule.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Brad, can we, like, let's, how hard can we talk about it?
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: We can certainly talk about it.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you quit smoking.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: I did quit smoking.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: If he had been a smoker when we met, it would have not.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: We would not be married 10 years.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: It's true.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: This
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, it's, uh, it's like grandfather as a smoker.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: It doesn't smell good.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so I have had two grandfather's who are massive smokers, one who lost a lung, just smoking and another one who had multiple heart problems and the heart doctor refused to operate on him unless he quit smoking.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I, like, this is a big, like personal thing because I lost family members to smoking, but I know it's not easy, so Brett.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I've told this story before, so it was,
- 3:30[SPEAKER_02]: The decision to smoke or to quit smoking was for me it was made emotionally, which is what made it easy.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: The decision to stop to stay with that initial decision was actually quite challenging, you know, because of the addiction, because of nicotine.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: But because I wanted to sing more than I wanted to smoke, that was the emotional decision.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, oh my god, this is a very, I just have to stop.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like I can't, I can't be on stage and not be able to sing.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_02]: So that, I think that was hard.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: because I had to hit a wall in order for that decision to become emotional, and then for a two, I actually happened in my life.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_02]: But, okay, great, that's step one.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: Then step two is consistently not smoking when I use two smoke.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, in the car, with the window down,
- 4:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't remember, you know, walking out of my apartment complex, there was a, there was like part of my routine, you know, and doing those things like continuing to do life, you're going to run back into those instances where you used to do the habit and would always make me think this is what I would normally pull out a cigarette and so that was that was a constant battle for, honestly, for just a few weeks.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's interesting because in a couple weeks, we have a habit series starting and in one of the episodes, I talk about how to answer unravel a habit and first smoking and like all we can be completely honest there is an addictive element to it and that they made it addictive so you have a habit.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: You smoke when you're in traffic my old roommate she would she when she quit smoking is a hardest thing because she's like Leslie I'm in traffic for 45 minutes when I used to just sit there and smoke and now I am not so she had lawy pops and teeth and coffee is because she's needed something to do in the car Yes, and she actually had like the patches like will not help you quit So she's like I don't even have the craving to smoke.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: I have the habit.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I will talk about how to unravel.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have it in that series and December.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: So make sure paying attention
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, the other day, this was really important to Brad and I, that was a second day, second day, it's a second day.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: We wanted to write something on today.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, so it's transgender day of remembrance.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: For generations, the transgender population has suffered various forms of abuse and even death, fault will murder.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll call it that for challenging the views, notions, and stereotypes around male and female identity.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: Every year we set aside today as transgender day of remembrance, this holiday is meant to honor commemorate and memorialize those who face discrimination in stigma on a daily basis across this nation.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: This holiday is also meant to advocate for transgender's peoples' rights, as well as focus on the persistent struggles they face in their everyday lives and how others can share their love support and hope.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: If you listen to this podcast and you have a fucking problem with transgender's
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: be these are just people.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: They're just people.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: And they've been around forever.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I bring it.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: I bring it up on one of the FIFs that's coming up about like how in the Indigenous cultures, they actually have people.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: They already had words for this.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: This is something.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's actually a fucking cool thing.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like you have the ability to see the world the way they see it through both lenses.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's a powerful thing.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I fucking, clearly I'm pissed about it, but I get so annoyed.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: And no one has a problem using a toilet on a plane.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: But all of a sudden, they have a fucking problem of sharing a bathroom and another person, of a different gender.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, what are we talking about here?
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: You just shared a bathroom.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't understand when they make neutral bathrooms how people get pissed about that.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: I also just listen to this one.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: thing, if I could find the real opposite to the team to link if you don't see the bloats because I couldn't find it.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: But this person is explained how it's sort of the safety of women to in the bathrooms of why they want people using the bathrooms of their own, like birth certificate, right?
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: And this one person is a trans man who goes, so what you're actually saying is that men are danger to women and you don't want them in their bathrooms.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the problem.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: We should solve that problem.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: We should be policing genitals.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I just get really upset because it's just bothersome to me.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Why don't we care so much?
- 7:54[SPEAKER_00]: We have health care issues in this country.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: We have poverty issues.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: We have children who don't have enough food.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: We have food issues, yeah.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: The higher percentage of people.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: We have water issues.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: Did you know, I don't remember what the number is about.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think we still have a problem with our water.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was Jackson, Mississippi, like they don't have running water in like many parts of the city.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what the the numbers are, but like that was a thing in a couple of years ago.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, no.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: There's a higher percentage of people who are listening this show that had no someone who's homeless, who is a poverty and poverty, who has food, what do you call it like a food uncertainty?
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: Then you then know of someone who's random.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: And so what are we doing?
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm just pissed about, I'm just over it.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm over people being so uptight and like, that there are threat to who you are.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it goes to that whole thing where it's like, if you don't like abortions, don't get one.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't like gay marriage, if somebody of your same sex asks you to marry them, don't say yes.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like you don't have to do any of these things.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to be trans.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is, I just get annoyed.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: on PIST.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, so today is a data member of the people who have been fighting to exist as they feel like they should exist.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: And we should do what we can to honor those people.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't know anyone, maybe consider looking at a community service organization in your area that you could donate to.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: If you are listening from Las Vegas when you buy food from the bronze cafe,
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: community for mental health.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really, really cool.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_00]: We use their restaurant for all of our retreats here in Las Vegas, so we can help support that.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: And they have a second location at the, uh, oh, press.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: So excited.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: The conservation preserve.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: The springs preserve here, which is has a massive cactus garden.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: So go to the cactus garden, go eat lunch, and you'll be also helping support.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: And do you don't live in Las Vegas?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_02]: Gender community here.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, when you come visit Las Vegas, you should go to spring and surfs.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then you can go to prawns cafe.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Good stuff coming up now.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_02]: So here we go.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_02]: So here's what we got coming up on the docket.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: Actually, next week or yeah, literally in a few days is the Black Friday, Cyber Monday coming up for you, probably already been inundated with everything.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's been crazy.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: For us, we're going to do it actually during the old school Black Friday, Cyber Monday is even new.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_02]: Black Friday, so it's the 26th of the 1st of December for OPC only y'all.

- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: So just go check your emails if you have any, we've got an offer for you.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: If you didn't get an email, it's because you have not signed for our emails or you unsubscribe from us.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't take that personally.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: You could just re-subscribe.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the date will be November 26th December 1st.

- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: We're really excited about the sale, and it's the one time of year we do it.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: So take advantage, don't ask us on December 2nd for it.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, it works, it's actually a lot of work.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of December, we're going to be on the road again for our winter tour for OPC and the actual dates, we're going to get, it's like starting on the 7th or 6th.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's like the 5th.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's the 5th in Colorado Springs, and it ends on the drive there, though.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: So we leave, we leave earlier than it starts.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: We come home the day that it ends.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, but it's like it's like December 5th through the January 6th or January 7th and we do come home the day that ends.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know that we sound like when it comes to the store that we're like not organized.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Last time I recorded we had no idea where we're going and now we do.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: And it's huge.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: The whole tour is listed.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: How it's 23 cities.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, yeah, 23.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: All right, a spring.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty three public events.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Louis.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the first the first event is on December five in Colorado Springs.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: Then we go to Fayetteville.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Fayetteville.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so good.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: How could I skip Arkansas?
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Then Saint Louis.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Then Saint Louis.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: And the Troy.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_02]: And Lexington.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to Lexington.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to Lexington.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to Lexington, but I'm going to that order.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: And you're going to Columbus.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Then you're going to Detroit.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: How does the map work?
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: Am I going like, I'm a zigzag?
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: Believe it or not, that's almost in line.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, they're.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: They are.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: I don't understand the middle.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm so sorry.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: OK. Then we go to Pittsburgh.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: OK, Pittsburgh.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Then we go to Rochester.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: Rochester.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: New York.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I said, do you see Rochester gold Rochester?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: How do you say it?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: Rochester.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Rochester.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Rochester, New York.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: And then we got a Boston Cape Cod Hartford Connecticut.

- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's a new one for us.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: That's new to help Delaware.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: That'll be just after Christmas.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: And then we have Washington, D.C. Virginia Beach, Charlotte, North Carolina.

- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: This is Florida.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be huffing it from North Carolina.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we're down to Del Rey.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: Florida.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: This is new Christmas Eve Del Rey.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: Nope.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that's New Year's Eve Del Rey.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: New Year's Eve.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: You guys are all here.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Del Rey is near Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood Florida, correct?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's just north of Fort Lauderdale.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: So our Miami stop has moved up a little bit because most of you are driving from that area.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so you're welcome.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: And then we do New Year's day with our Pilates crew.

- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you have ever thought, oh my god, they must get bored of this, we don't.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: We had the best fucking time.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, I just loved it.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I can't wait to take you.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think this year is going to be, sorry, next year.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: So 2026 is going to be even better, and I know we've had a lot of interest already.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_02]: But one of the things we're going to do differently in January, we're going to have a call.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: for everyone who's curious about this, the retreat.

- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, let's get to this audience question and we gotta get to this amazing recap episode.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so the audience question this week was from Audrey Fipps 1726 on YouTube.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: She is for the Pilates equipment for beginners video.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_02]: She said, hey, what sizes that try me stability ball, I would love to find one.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so the triad ball.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's a wondering.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Audrey, it took me a second.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, try me and have to Google this.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes people go, hey, what do you think of this item?
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, I don't know what you're talking about, but I realize it's my accent.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's the triad ball.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't actually know the dimensions.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: it's a purple ball that you don't want to fill all the way up.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's smaller than, I guess it'd be like volleyball size when it's filled up, but you want it to be a little squishy.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: And where did I get it?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think I went on balanced body.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_02]: The OPTP triad ball, nine and a half inches.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Is it purple?
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's purple.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the OPTP.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, OPTP triad ball, then in half inches.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: You can get it like target.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't want to hurt.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not shopping at Target these days, but you can get on OPTP's website.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: They have a bunch, they have a huge website.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Lots of amazing stuff on TPA actually.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: You'll kind of like, it's good products, good stuff.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: So if you have a question, you can text us at plus one through a note, nine or five, five, five, three, four or submit it to beepod.com slash questions.

- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I love getting your wins because I love helping people see like there's a celebration and everything, you know, there's a reason to celebrate every the whole every if you just watch the news and open up your phone it fucking sucks so you've got to have a place where you know it's going to be some good news and you might hear your win on a day you need to remind yourself that you had a fucking win.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's true.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_02]: You are 100% right.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, stick around.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about Dr. Jen Frabony.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: Dr. Jen Frabony.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_02]: Also known as Dr. Jen Fit is a physical therapist, passionate about helping people move more.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_02]: with less pain and more confidence.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_02]: She is the founder of Gen.Health, a platform and app design to make strength, mobility and recovery accessible for everyone.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: Alongside her husband, she co-hosts the optimal body podcast.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_02]: Her work has also been featured nationally, including on Good Morning America and NBC, where she shared simple strategies to ease back pain during the pandemic.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_02]: So we, well, it was just a great conversation by the way, nobody knows this, but
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: I get to watch the full interview call, right?
- 21:02[SPEAKER_02]: And you watch it?
- 21:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, watch every single one of them.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: That's how I do prep.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I thought you just listened.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_02]: No, 100% of the time, watching the interview.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: So the beginning of it was really fun because you were saying that basically you were like, oh my gosh, this is how my day is going to go today.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_02]: I am so excited to start today with this interview.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because it was a Zoom call with Jen Furboni.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, it's Jen Furboni.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then she showed up like, oh my god, I was like, I mean, I guess I kind of looked up.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I knew I was interviewing her at some point, but I just, my brain and like keep her down.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: Did you keep her last name associated with her Instagram handle?
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, how fun is that?
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the team left her the outtakes.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's so good.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so, you know, what, what the two of you were digging into, I thought it was just really great talking about pink.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: I related a lot to that, especially this past year.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_02]: I've actually had a lot of pain with my, my foot.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_02]: So anyway, you know,
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: But it will that goes into like something like what I liked that she had dressed up paying was that like most of the time it's just an alarm, especially if you didn't get an accident like and sometimes your pain is like you're just sitting there and all of a sudden something hurts in your body and you're like, oh, those hurts and I'm like.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: just sitting there like what are you talking about so in that case if it wasn't like you know you fell down the stairs you tripped across the street you were in a car accident if you have pain it is your body going pay high you're not taking good care of me right it's like just trying to get your attention and I this like if we think of that as what it is as opposed to I've just stopped doing everything that was associated with that because
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: The goal is three to four times week four is better.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: That's the goal, right?
- 22:53[SPEAKER_00]: But I have someone who'll come once a week and they'll see me the next week.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, last week, my back hurt.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: So we need to be conscious of that.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, so there are.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: six other days, plus a 23 hours of the day I didn't see you.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: What did you do?
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: How are you taking care of yourself?
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying the plies didn't hurt you.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: What I am saying is more likely than not, it wasn't the Pilates, but the plies is the unique thing about your day.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: So it's similar to I have some stomach
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think I got gluten or I must have had some dairy when I found out that I'm also allergic to oats.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: And every fucking day I was having oat milk.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I wasn't associating like any of the other boring food I was having all of the time.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: I was coming up with this unique thing that could have happened.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I really liked that.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: We were just with our friend.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: And the next day he was like, I think I got gluten yesterday.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: It must have been that meal that we ate.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I said, you know, I'm, I'm also not feeling a hundred percent and then I thought about the restaurant, which is, we've eaten at a hundred times and I was like,
- 24:07[SPEAKER_02]: What did we do differently?
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: And he had these spices, Margarita, I think I've ever tasted.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I was loading on the hot sauce.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, you know what, man?
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder, I mean, look, it's possible that you got gluten, but they specifically came out and told us that they made this gluten free.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: So I'd be surprised.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe there was some leftover something.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: You were so correct that.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: But also, like the two of us ate something that was pretty off the pat.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: I liked eat spicy stuff, but like we had a lot of it.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: And his, his Margarita was almost undrinkable.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: It was crazy.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: And you know.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I like a spicy mark.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, I, I, I think that was going to provide a clonet.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because he can totally honest.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Anyways, but I just think like, she gave some really in great stuff.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like, should I about her own personal experience?
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, she's got some back pain.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then she's like, well, I've been sleeping less.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm breastfeeding.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sitting more.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not moving my body.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: So what can I do to be more conscious about the things that I need to give myself?
- 25:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think with the idea that people coming into class and saying, oh, well, last week I was in pain afterwards, you know, what she mentioned, which I thought was really obvious, but needed to be heard.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_02]: She said, you know, if you're in the gym lifting and you like tweak your back, obviously you're going to say, well, I shouldn't do that again.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: No, no problem.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, but that was probably not
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: That was the moment that things were stressed to the point of out, but that wasn't the only moment.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_02]: There are definitely other things leading up to that exact moment of when your body was like, we're done trying to hold it together here.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_02]: Now you're in pain.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_02]: And she said, so there's other movements that you're probably doing in your life that are it's cumulative, right?
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: It's adding up over time and then bam, maybe the moment that it happened was in a class
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: particular that you wouldn't be normally doing like doing a headstand or whatever it might be do you know, being on one leg, you know, the, the, but that's probably not where it started.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think we get all agree in this moment where we're not in pain, right?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: I hurt my knee doing a deadlift when I got hired my trainer.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: I said, yeah, I've been deadlifting a lot lighter because it doesn't bother my knee.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: But the actual thing that's bothering my knee is the fact that I had weak inner thighs and hamstrings compared to my quads, and then the way my gate is on that leg, that's why my knee hurt is just so happened that I fell to the pain doing the deadlift.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: The deadlift is actually not the problem.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: My form in my deadlift is not the problem.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: It is an in balance and muscles on that leg.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so what can we be doing to make sure that we're taking like consistent care of ourselves?
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: really doing some sort of creating some sort of like, okay, hold on, what's my sleep?
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what's my intake?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what's my fuel?
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, have I been consistent?
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: So if you are someone who like doesn't work out for week, then men goes and works out hard.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I got to get in it.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Just so you know, you're going to be in some pain afterwards, because you didn't have consistency going into it.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, just do some reflection before you go, oh, that's a problem speak to that speak about reflection, which this is pretty funny, if you have people coming in and saying, well, last time I did this, I heard or if you are that person, yeah, or if you are that person, do you wake up and hurt?
- 27:26[SPEAKER_02]: Like, should this, does that mean you shouldn't sleep?
- 27:29[SPEAKER_02]: Like, does, you know what I mean?
- 27:30[SPEAKER_02]: The logic doesn't apply.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_00]: I just, okay, I just heard, like, so it's nothing to do with that, but this is my very brain thing, okay.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: So this person goes, like, this, like, I saw this person goes, I need to go on a vacation.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: And this other person goes, did you just come back from a vacation?
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's like, you should just say, did you have lunch yesterday?
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then like, yeah, that does that mean you need lunch today?
- 27:50[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like, yeah, like, you're, if you,
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if you're obviously not going to say, well, I guess I shouldn't sleep right so because because Maybe you just slept on your shoulder weird or whatever and also too it doesn't.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_02]: But it also doesn't mean that your shoulder is broken or jacked up.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: It means you stress it.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: improperly for an extended period of time.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you were sleeping on it weird, right?
- 28:19[SPEAKER_02]: And how like, you know, you know how that is?
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know how that feeling is?
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: It could be your ankle or something where it takes a couple of hours for it to work itself out.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: And what's happening there, which I, which I thought was interesting.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_02]: She talks about how pain, it's a signal from the brain saying something is not 100% correct here.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_02]: Something is not 100% correct here.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: Just a reminder, a reminder, a reminder.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like when you hit the button and the camera goes,
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, let me hit that again.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you're like, I don't know why I'm accepting something different.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and here's how this, here's how this relates to what I loved.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_02]: She said, the more we don't use it, we lose it, right?
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: You, you use it or lose it.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_02]: You've heard that phrase a million times.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: But she said the, the thing that was the frustrates her the most is once she, her clients come to her and say the doctor told me, I'm not allowed to do this anymore, right?
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: The thing, whatever the thing is, and this is what related to me,
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, a couple of months, well, geez, in February of this year, it's now, you know, November.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: I started to feel pain in my foot.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_02]: In the top of my foot, it was like this pulling pain.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: It felt like fascia or nerves.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_02]: I couldn't decide.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_02]: I still can't decide.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: And for a long time, I just stopped.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_02]: I just stopped doing, you know, like the the pointing of my toe stopped it all the stuff that you do in yoga class stopped it.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, I need some time off all I gave up the time off and it didn't fix it.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_02]: Right, so then what, then what it was the next thing we do.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_02]: So to go to the character character couldn't figure out what's going on, right?
- 29:47[SPEAKER_02]: They're like, she's like, hey, you're, you're aligned.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: What are you talking about?
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, then I was like, must be these other things.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm sorry, I'm a massage myself.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing all this stuff.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_02]: And then like couple, like two months ago, I just decided, you know what?
- 29:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to get warm and I'm going to keep using my foot, I'm just going to keep using it because, you know, one of the things that she said is especially being pregnant a second time, she leaned into, you know, doing her workouts when her body was was starting to like freak out, but her body was going through a major change and she said, you know, maybe she modified the exercise, but she always felt better after doing her workout.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: despite being told, you know, or her body, you know, saving a signal.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that we have to be careful with this.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, same for me, I have to actually be careful with this.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's not no pain, no gain.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's not real.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: I don't agree with that.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_02]: It's also, you know, there are, there are moments where your body is trying to warn you on something.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: But you need to be able to decide for what that is and understand, right?
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: Is it like pain to the point of, like,
- 30:52[SPEAKER_02]: damage or are we talking that that signal of warning, you know, that's like, oh, you have to be cautious, right?
- 30:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, it makes me, so this morning, I was doing my first Pilates practice in the reformer in three weeks.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I did not, I was like, oh, man, I got my spine correct when I was like this, not feel awesome.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't hurt.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: It just was like, right.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then I got in the reformer.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: And the first overhead kind of was like, eh, but then the second one felt better.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: And the third one felt better.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not, it is not, no pain, no gain.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: But if you have a consistent practice of any kind of movement,
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: When you start going, you know if your body is telling you this is not a good day or oh, hold on.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: This is opening up.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm warming up to it.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: And so when I was doing 10 instructions on the reformer, it normally do a single leg 10 in stretch.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I did 10 in stretch.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: I did three and I was like, I in no way feel safe to lift the leg off.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do four more and get off.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: I got to headstand.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_00]: I did all the things, but the actual headstand, because I have the consistent enough practice my body.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: I could tell that I'm going to feel better when it's over, but I'm not pushing myself to do something it shouldn't do.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that just comes with time.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_00]: It just comes to listen to your body.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, I mean, that would do that.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, she said something that I also thought was interesting that we never that I never thought about before.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: She said,
- 32:13[SPEAKER_02]: Clearly the outside of our body's change.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: Our face is sagged, or we get wrinkled as things lower.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_02]: Why would we never?
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: Why would we expect?
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: that there are no internal changes as well.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_02]: And she was talking about joint degeneration and all those kinds of things, which are natural and they happen discs in your back compression, all that kind of stuff.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: But the only way to age gracefully, despite your body deteriorating is strength.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: strong muscles, right?
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: And so we still should be, we need to be prioritizing that in our lives.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: Now, so that we can be moving with ease as we age.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's so, and that's just it.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: You guys, you will never stop having to sleep enough, drink enough water, and strengthen your muscles.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_00]: guaranteed in life until we no longer get to live on this beautiful planet.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah there you go.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_02]: Well, stick around.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_02]: We'll be right back.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to dig in at those be it action items that we got from Dr. Jen bit.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_02]: Let's dig in of these be it action items.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_02]: What bold executable intrinsic or targeted action items.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_02]: Can we take away from your conversation with Dr. Jen for a bonus.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_02]: She explicitly advised against relying on passive stretching as a primary solution for pain.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_02]: Even though it can feel good and relaxing, she said it's better to create stability that is the fundamental requirement for the body to feel safe.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_02]: So you're talking about the off balance muscles that you had, which is why your lifting was feeling pain because you were unstable your one muscles, your one set of muscles were stronger than the other set of muscles.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: She said, when you create stability, it creates a sense of safety and she recommends focusing on active stretching isometric holds and strengthening exercises.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: She highlighted Pilates as a modality that is great at creating stability and teaching the body safety, especially in the initial phases of pain recovery.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say like today we were in yoga and my left hamstring just would not open up and the reality is my left hip Just feeling unstable.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's why we're headed to the chiropractor after this and it's like I cannot open up this hamstring when my pelvis is out
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: Be mindful of the passive stretching.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: My loves.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's going full.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: I love this is great.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: The only way that we start to know how to move forward is if we tune in first.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really this is this kind of goes back to like a Brad biz jacks episode actually and that and that maybe he didn't say is this episode, but he has said it in something that I've heard of him before, which is but go listen to that episode anyways, he's like, you would never you would never just like go get in the car and drive somewhere without having like a destination in mind, unlike most people don't check in with how they feel before they like move their body.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: They don't move me their body like they're not tuning in.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: before you was set a goal before are you do think you have to kind of go inward first so that you know where you're putting your compass, where you're putting your directions, where you're moving forward too.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: So, otherwise you have like, oh, maybe I should do, if you don't tune in first, you're going to be the person who's like, oh, the hot new thing is Jitsu, so I'm going to introduce you.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then that new hot thing is this box thing on a trampoline, like you're not going to actually be able to look at a movement modality and go, oh,
- 35:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's what anybody means, you'll just be like going hopping from one thing to the next exciting, a quick fix.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I did love that one.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then she really, she advised on to every day to take five deep, long, slow breaths, mouth closed, and focus on taking breath into the size of your rib cage.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: I hope you see members know this, diaphragmatic breathing, and avoid breathing into your shoulders, neck or chest, otherwise you're going to feel stressed.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: But if you take these deep breaths, you often will see that the pain starts to diminish.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'm less a Logan.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm Brad Crowell.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: I really hope this is helpful, especially if pain is part of your daily life.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: It is really hard to be until you see it in that kind of state.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_00]: And so hopefully this gave you some tips, gave you some ideas, gave you some permission.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: And share with the friend who needs to hear it, especially one who's like, this topic is like, what they're needing right now.
