- Jessica Figueroa: Good morning, everyone. We are here together on our Just For Today podcast, and I'm your podcast host, Cindy Marlar. And today I'm going over another tidbit from Dale Carnegie's book. And he talks about how we have to learn to cooperate with the inevitable. And that a lot of suffering comes not from the event, but from our resistance to the event. This is also a very popular philosophy in amongst the Stoics. So, this idea that we suffer not because of the event being so traumatic, but resisting the actual event. So, where in our lives do we need to learn to cooperate with the inevitable? We need to cooperate with the consequences from our actions. If we choose to eat the pie at night, then the consequence is what it is. If we choose to skip an exercise session, then we're not going to feel as good. If we choose to stay up late, then we're going to be tired the next day. And cooperating with that inevitable would be the next day when you're tired, being okay, being tired, not be like, ⁓ I'm so tired. That's fighting against this event. What if the event is a divorce? You know, I'm going through that. How do you cooperate with the invet inevitable, these events that you maybe didn't choose, or maybe are results of your actions, but start to cooperate against them and stop resisting. What is going to happen anyways? Just like even a presidential election, everyone will come and a new president will come or the same one, depending on the cycle. And then once it happens, move on. That is the inevitable. We know these things are coming. We know the taxes are going to be due. We know when the mortgage comes. Stop fighting the inevitable. So just for today, whatever the inevitable is in our life, we are going to cooperate with it. Where you're gonna stop resisting. Cause remember, resisting takes physical, mental, and emotional energy. Just think about resisting something. Even just squeeze your two hands together and have them resist one another, you know, resist the pushing. See all that energy that takes? Today, stop resisting. Learn to let go, go with the flow. If you, if there's traffic, that's the inevitable. And resisting the traffic and getting angry about it is not cooperating with it. So learn to cooperate. Be like, great, I'm gonna have an extra 30 minutes. I'm gonna turn on that audible book I haven't met I haven't listened to yet and start it. Learn to cooperate with the inevitable. This is one of Dale Carnegie's tips for breaking the habit of wearing. Cooperate with the inevitable inevitable. That's what we're gonna do just for today. And I get to see you or listen to you or talk with you tomorrow.
