- 0:09F you, Bobby Flay. Chelsea Handler on going on a bad date with Bobby Flay.
- 0:14Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and made me a laugh.
- 0:19I'm Lindsay Vernick and it's June 1st, 2026.
- 0:22God, it feels like forever since I've done a Starcast, but it's only been,
- 0:26like, pretty much the regular amount of time.
- 0:30But has it been though? I don't even remember. Today is Monday,
- 0:33right? I can't even keep track of the days anymore.
- 0:36But happy June 1st. Happy Rent Day. And oh my god, it's June. Yay, it's summer.
- 0:43And also because I always, always, always forget to say this,
- 0:47please feel free to send this to somebody that you think might enjoy it.
- 0:53Thank you to my friends who share this, especially Emily always post this on her story.
- 0:58I really appreciate it. But anyway, to help me share this podcast would be awesome.
- 1:04In real news, Trump is going around the White House right now asking whether
- 1:08people prefer Vice President J.D.
- 1:11Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio as the future leader of the Republican Party.
- 1:17Apparently, Trump has been questioning whether Vance is what it takes to carry
- 1:20on the MAGA movement, but also complimenting Rubio's performance and openly
- 1:25polling people about which one they like better.
- 1:28Imagine being the vice president and finding out your performance review is
- 1:32happening like a middle school student council election.
- 1:35Trump has criticized Vance for everything, from his stance on Iran to taking
- 1:40vacations, and even keeps bringing up the time that Vance dropped Ohio State's
- 1:46National Championships trophy.
- 1:47So the vice president of the United States
- 1:50is still hearing about that one embarrassing thing he did at a party.
- 1:53The good news is that the 2028 election is still years away.
- 1:57The bad news is that the 2028 election is still years away.
- 2:03Mount Everest just had one of its busiest weeks in history.
- 2:06More than 500 climbers reached the summit in just a few days,
- 2:10including a record 274 people in a single day from the Nepal side of the mountain.
- 2:17I guess the Nepal side is very hard.
- 2:20What's so surprising about all of this is that nobody died.
- 2:24That's really big because Everest has become so crowded recently that photos
- 2:29of climbers standing in traffic jams near the summit have become almost as famous as the mountain itself.
- 2:35Despite hundreds of people making the climb, guides reported that there were
- 2:39no major injuries and no deaths, which is, like, super crazy because there always is.
- 2:45Among all the climbers making history was a woman who became the first Afghan
- 2:50woman to reach the summit, a double-leg amputee who climbed the mountain without
- 2:55prosthetics, literally just by using his arms and torso.
- 3:00If you look at the pictures online, it's literally insane.
- 3:03That's, like, so crazy. he can
- 3:05do that which makes me believe that I can probably
- 3:08get to the gym today and there was
- 3:11a Sherpa who climbed Everest for the 32nd time because
- 3:15obviously 31 times isn't enough and
- 3:18for the last story today I debated on telling
- 3:21this one but it's been on my mind all weekend it's
- 3:24just one of those big headlines that just is so
- 3:28horrific that you just can't stop thinking
- 3:31about so i just figured i might as
- 3:33well share this so this past weekend there was
- 3:37a bus going from new york to north carolina
- 3:40and they were traveling in the middle of the night and it
- 3:43was this guy who barely spoke any english
- 3:46i think he's like 48 years old anyway there
- 3:49were signs to say slow down there
- 3:53was a construction zone coming up and he
- 3:56didn't and he hit a bunch of cars and unfortunately he killed a young family
- 4:02of four and a 25 year old girl i know i'm sorry i'm not trying to ruin your
- 4:08monday it's just like so horrible and just one of the big headlines this past weekend.
- 4:14So now investigators are looking into whether the driver was super tired or
- 4:19was impaired or there was something wrong with him medically or literally anything
- 4:23else going on to why this happened.
- 4:26The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation and it's
- 4:31going to review the driver's actions in the 72 hours leading up to the collision.
- 4:35And he has already been charged with two counts right now of involuntary manslaughter,
- 4:41but apparently they're expecting a lot more charges.
- 4:44Come soon also i don't know if it's just me but
- 4:47i'm just now realizing that a lot of people in
- 4:50new york who drive for like uber or any like
- 4:53public transportation like these buses they don't
- 4:56speak english like but i just went on a bus the other
- 4:59day from philadelphia to new york and the driver
- 5:02did not speak english at all and
- 5:05even when i got in an uber yesterday he showed
- 5:08me the screen with my name on it and like what they couldn't even say is this
- 5:12you he was like tapping the phone I'm like how can you not like that's scary
- 5:17for someone to not be speaking English and driving a car right okay anyway moving on in Lindsay life.
- 5:27Okay, so a bunch of stuff happened the past week when I was in Miami,
- 5:32and I'll share it over the course of this upcoming week.
- 5:34But one thing that happened that really, really bothered me.
- 5:38So I'm in Miami this past week for work, right?
- 5:41And we're sitting at lunch. I'm with the crew, and we all ordered dessert.
- 5:47I was so full and didn't want anything. But it literally just so happened that
- 5:53an extra flan came, and everyone was like, Lindsay, you better have it.
- 5:56And I was like, okay, whatever.
- 5:57So i'm like kind of slowly eating it
- 6:01and the camp one of the camera guys is sitting across
- 6:03the table from me and i think we've had a
- 6:06total of like five conversations like we've never gotten anything personal like
- 6:11we're not friends so we're like mid-dessert and the camera guy across from me
- 6:17he finishes dessert and before i could process what was happening this man does not say a word to me,
- 6:25takes his spoon and reaches over and takes a bite of my flan.
- 6:33And then puts the spoon down, gets up, and, like, walks away.
- 6:38And I just look around to see if anybody's noticing. And nobody notices.
- 6:44Everyone's, like, on their phone or in conversation.
- 6:46Like, nobody just watched this guy just take a bite of my flan.
- 6:52Without asking is, like, the craziest part. Like, if he would have asked,
- 6:56I would have been like, sure, I guess. But, like, how do you just not ask someone
- 7:00that you're not friends with and take a bite of their food?
- 7:03But anyway, so yesterday I go to improv and I go up for a scene and I just started
- 7:09yelling at my scene partner for taking a bite of my flan without asking me because we're co-workers.
- 7:15And everyone's cracking up and I tell them after, I was like,
- 7:18wow, that felt so good. I was really angry about this whole situation.
- 7:22And everyone was like wait what that was real that was
- 7:24a real thing that happened to you and I was like yeah most of the things
- 7:27that happened in this classroom that I talk about
- 7:31yeah that actually has happened to me in real life thing of the week this week
- 7:35is sports so the Knicks are in the NBA finals for the first time in like forever
- 7:41and it's a really big deal so they kill Cleveland in the Eastern Conference
- 7:46finals and now they're going to play San Antonio in game one on Wednesday night.
- 7:51I don't know anything about sports, but apparently this is a matchup that nobody
- 7:55could have ever predicted.
- 7:57New Yorkers are already preparing accordingly by pretending that they've always
- 8:01believed in this team and immediately putting on all of their Knicks gear and
- 8:05wearing it around and googling the price of finals tickets before having a major heart attack.
- 8:12Meanwhile, the World Cup starts in less than two weeks, and Iran's national
- 8:16soccer team still doesn't know if they're getting into the United States or not.
- 8:21The team is currently training in Turkey while waiting for their visas.
- 8:24Their training base was moved from Arizona to Mexico, and the plan is to fly into the U.S.
- 8:30For games and then immediately head back to Mexico afterwards.
- 8:33This is the first time in World Cup history that a host nation has been at war
- 8:38with a qualified participant, which is politically called a diplomatic challenge,
- 8:43and what the rest of us call an absolutely insane situation.
- 8:48At this point, Iran isn't even trying to advance out of the group stage.
- 8:53They're just trying to advance their customs.
- 8:55So between the Knicks making the finals and a World Cup team potentially commuting
- 9:00internationally between games,
- 9:02sports have officially entered their written-by-asleep-deprived television producer era,
- 9:08like me cooking tip of the day don't take it for granted when you're able to
