Transcript
- 0:00Oh, God. Oh, my God.
- 0:13I think one of the weirdest things about Gone In 60 Seconds for me
- 0:15is just how like masturbatory it was about cars like it.
- 0:21It's for people who just geek out on cars like the Wikipedia page
- 0:24has entries about the cars now.
- 0:26But who fucking cares?
- 0:28I mean, it's cool that it's a remake.
- 0:31Yeah, which I learned last night.
- 0:32Yeah, I had no idea.
- 0:33I've never seen the original.
- 0:35I haven't either.
- 0:36It's cool about the 70s.
- 0:37You know what's cool about that?
- 0:39What's cool about that?
- 0:39Welcome back to Cage Match around about wave media.
- 0:41Nicholas Cage, Colin.
- 0:42It's just getting ridiculous at this point.
- 0:45I know. OK, let me take that again.
- 0:47Welcome back to Cage Match, Colin around about wave media.
- 0:49Nicholas Cage, Colin.
- 0:50The podcast hasn't started yet.
- 0:51So stop talking about Gone In 60 Seconds.
- 0:53I'm your host, Sean.
- 0:56With my co-host.
- 0:57Mm hmm.
- 0:59I don't know if that's happening today.
- 1:00All right. I'm Nick.
- 1:03And a producer. Hello, I'm Peter.
- 1:05And our special guest, John.
- 1:06Hi, John. Hi.
- 1:08Welcome to the show. Thank you.
- 1:10How was your chicken piccata this morning?
- 1:14I thought it was supposed to be deal piccata.
- 1:16Well, we're all on budgets.
- 1:18I want to fix it.
- 1:18My chicken piccata was delicious, by the way.
- 1:21It was very well cooked.
- 1:24The yolk was nice and runny.
- 1:27A good everything bagels.
- 1:29Delicious bagel base.
- 1:30We lured John into Peter's basement with the promise of the alpaca.
- 1:34Yeah, there is no breakfast today, though.
- 1:36Yeah. Feel Piccata.
- 1:37Benedict should have been your hint that it was fake.
- 1:39I don't know what the alpaca is.
- 1:41It's like veal with capers and like a white wine.
- 1:44Yeah. Lemonade.
- 1:46Wine sauce totally sounds like an amazing.
- 1:48Yeah, it's delicious.
- 1:49It probably would be a good Benedict now that I think about it.
- 1:52We'll be right back.
- 1:52We're going to make this and then we'll come back and talk about it. OK.
- 1:55That was good. Yeah.
- 1:57Very tasty. Yeah.
- 1:58Would eat that again.
- 1:59So on this podcast, we talk Nicholas Cage,
- 2:02rocket system, 64 films go in.
- 2:05One movie will come out this week.
- 2:07We're talking gone in 60 seconds and Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance,
- 2:10a very high octane episode.
- 2:12Which would you say it is?
- 2:15Three. You pull up to the gas station, you just go to the three pump. Yeah.
- 2:20It's mostly covered in spiders year round.
- 2:23Oh, man. Fucking I hate fake spider season.
- 2:26I was all like ready for it.
- 2:28Now they've gone away again, which means in a week I'm going to walk right into a web.
- 2:31Yep. Told you it wasn't spider season yet.
- 2:34Yeah, it's getting there. Spider seasons end of summer.
- 2:37What do you have against it?
- 2:38Sean doesn't like the spiders.
- 2:39I think it's the spiders is what he doesn't like about spider season.
- 2:43But like the spiders here are chill. Yeah.
- 2:45Yeah. They just like to build a web in front, like in front of doors
- 2:49and across sidewalks and stuff.
- 2:51Yeah, sometimes they're even big and hairy and that's cool.
- 2:54I don't want to ruin this for you, Sean, but I'm pretty sure we have black widows here.
- 2:57That's fine. I grew up in a place with hobo spiders.
- 2:59This is yeah. Hobo spiders.
- 3:01I think they're called unhoused spiders.
- 3:04Drifter spiders.
- 3:06You're David Banner of spiders.
- 3:08I imagine that would be spider with a little bindle.
- 3:10Yeah, it's a spindle.
- 3:12Let's be real.
- 3:13Oh, John, our most dad joke person who is not a dad.
- 3:17Yeah, that's right. I got to have a thing.
- 3:19So, John, what is your interest in Nicolas Cage?
- 3:22My interest in Nicolas Cage is mostly seeing someone who's almost as hairy as I am.
- 3:29Oh, he does have good body hair.
- 3:31Yeah. John, that is.
- 3:33I mean, Nick Cage, too, occasionally, but not always.
- 3:36Yeah, his chest hair is impressive.
- 3:39And I don't think we've seen his bare back.
- 3:42He's not a hairy backed guy.
- 3:43No, it's just just like he might wax the back.
- 3:45Oh, I'm sure he does. I would.
- 3:47Yeah, I mean, the chest hair comes and goes like the tides.
- 3:50You ever shave your chest?
- 3:52Shave it. Yeah.
- 3:53When I was in bodybuilding, I shaved everything.
- 3:55Yeah, that was fun for speed in bodybuilding.
- 4:00You got to get all loose.
- 4:00You got to get into that slide across the stage.
- 4:02Exactly. That was just right.
- 4:04Yeah. I used to have my chest and stomach hair shaved into an arrow pointing down
- 4:10at 100 percent tracks.
- 4:12Yeah, I am not shocked by this information in the slightest.
- 4:15I think that's to how long that lasted a good couple of years.
- 4:20What is that is shock?
- 4:23Haining. That's a bit for sure.
- 4:25Well, it starts to get uncomfortable when it's growing back out.
- 4:29So you just maintain.
- 4:30Also, you know, you get good about shaving around your nipples and everything.
- 4:34I don't remember you being that hairy.
- 4:36I'm not terribly hairy, but when it's just an arrow pointing down,
- 4:40I guess you'd notice it.
- 4:41Yeah, it's like subtle.
- 4:42What we're talking here.
- 4:44The main portion of the arrow is about two inches,
- 4:47and then it flared out to about here and then straight down.
- 4:50I would say the main point of the arrow is the pointy bit
- 4:52or the main area of the arrows, the pointy bit, not the line.
- 4:56I would disagree, because if you just look at the pointy bit,
- 4:59all you're looking at is a triangle.
- 5:01You got me there.
- 5:03The line creates linear focus.
- 5:07But a triangle can also be an arrow.
- 5:10But it's also in three different directions.
- 5:12Which one do you look at?
- 5:13That's only true for an isolateral triangle, though.
- 5:17We're not bringing math into this.
- 5:18You leave your geometry at home.
- 5:20We're talking about harrows only today.
- 5:24Gross. Ah, that's it.
- 5:26That should have been where I came in.
- 5:27Yeah.
- 5:28I'll just move everything around.
- 5:29That's fine. You do anyway.
- 5:31I'm not changing shit.
- 5:33Peter's like, I fucking give up.
- 5:35I'm not even working on this anymore.
- 5:37Peter's going on vacation for like 10 days.
- 5:39He doesn't get it anymore.
- 5:42Honestly, as much work as just guesting on this was,
- 5:45which is a shocking amount of work, by the way.
- 5:47Yes.
- 5:49I'm impressed with how long you guys have been doing this,
- 5:52because I definitely would have quit.
- 5:53Yeah. So on the website, too, I just had how many hours
- 5:58and minutes we've been watching cage movies.
- 5:59And then I finally did the conversion.
- 6:01And now it reads how many days we've spent on it.
- 6:04And it's over four days now just watching the movies.
- 6:07And that's not counting rewatches.
- 6:08Oh, yeah. I watched both twice.
- 6:09Just a singular watch is all I'm tracking.
- 6:12It's a lot of time that we have now lost to our Lord and Savior,
- 6:16Nicolas Cage.
- 6:17I can't see his name.
- 6:18Yeah.
- 6:19As Darryl would say, the golden hog of Hollywood.
- 6:21I know he's going to like that.
- 6:23We're going to bring that in, too.
- 6:25I mean, it's been it's been transferring around to some other podcasts.
- 6:28So has it? Yeah, he's running.
- 6:30That's good. I didn't want to jump on his thing there.
- 6:33But no, no, I think he would enjoy that.
- 6:34He's got he's got getting to follow you now.
- 6:37Yeah. Getting to follow you.
- 6:41Wait, does he have a theme song for getting to follow you?
- 6:46Yeah. Yes.
- 6:47We got to put lyrics to your base thing.
- 6:48Yeah. I mean, we have we have him shouting fuck.
- 6:52Yeah. I'm a little disappointed you don't play that at the beginning of every episode.
- 6:56Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 6:58It would be different every episode because Seinfeld it.
- 7:00Yeah. Peter just came over and we just put him held a microphone up to my
- 7:03and just noodled around.
- 7:04I just moved around for half an hour.
- 7:05And that's what we get.
- 7:07Yeah. It's my one professional like base credit.
- 7:10I'm a musician, ma.
- 7:12There is an IMDb for bass players.
- 7:14It's actually the unemployment list.
- 7:18So got in 60 seconds.
- 7:20Here's where I'm going to be if this keeps up.
- 7:25John, you're the guest, which means I have to do less work.
- 7:28What's gone in 60 seconds about?
- 7:29That's what you said last week, Sean.
- 7:31And it holds true today.
- 7:34So gone in 60 seconds is basically a standardized movie.
- 7:37Let's be real. Like, there is nothing special about this movie, which is.
- 7:42That's a hot take. And I'm a hot take guy.
- 7:44Can I go into opinions? Yeah.
- 7:46Oh, OK. Yeah. So we don't do opinions on this.
- 7:49I like hot takes, but not opinionated ones.
- 7:52Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong.
- 7:53I love this movie, but there's nothing fancy about it.
- 7:57Right. It's just Ocean's 11 with cars, more or less.
- 8:01Oh, I see you disagreeing.
- 8:02No, actually, I was thinking it's more like a original Fast and Furious.
- 8:06Ah, you beat me. So I was also going to talk about Fast and Furious.
- 8:10And it came out what just a year before the first Fast movie.
- 8:14I had to check that before I texted Peter.
- 8:16Oh, I'm like, I'm going to say this to Nick.
- 8:18Nope. Right down to the end when they're having the barbecue
- 8:20and everybody's family styling around fucking fast.
- 8:24I can't wait. Family styling is making out, right? Yeah.
- 8:29That's when everyone makes that.
- 8:29You've got to everyone sticks their tongue in at the same time.
- 8:31Uh huh. Three way kissing was like the hot thing on TV for a period of time.
- 8:36Absolutely not. What are you talking about?
- 8:38It was really big during the like, I'm actually with you.
- 8:42I know what you're talking about.
- 8:43Yeah, it was like the big thing and everyone's like, oh, so hot.
- 8:47Three way kiss. It's like, that's terrible.
- 8:49Like nobody's getting any action.
- 8:51That's just touching.
- 8:52That just makes me think of a buddy of mine back in high school.
- 8:57I mean, in Oregon, we had 18 and over strip clubs and stuff,
- 9:01and he would go to the strip club after school.
- 9:03And this guy was high school.
- 9:06Yeah. This guy was falling hard and he was blowing like
- 9:09all of his paychecks at the strip club.
- 9:12And he was getting like lap dances from two strippers at once.
- 9:16And it's like that is insanely stupid.
- 9:20Just like one on each leg.
- 9:22Yeah. I don't know if they were like jumping in and like back and forth.
- 9:26But nobody's doing 100 percent of their like actual work.
- 9:30I'm expecting like one of them to stand on the shoulders of the other.
- 9:33Wear a trench coat. Yeah, that would be cool.
- 9:36The tallest stripper. Yeah.
- 9:37And I'm kind of into this.
- 9:40Yeah. So this movie, I don't know, like
- 9:42to 2000 is when it came out and it feels very 2000 to me.
- 9:46Like that intro is so fucking dated and like shitty font work.
- 9:50Everybody's got that like 2000 hair that's kind of just slicked back.
- 9:55Yeah. Greasy, greasy, greasy, greasy.
- 9:57That man is quintessential 2000.
- 10:01Yeah. All he was missing was some wraparound shades.
- 10:04Which his psychic had. Yeah.
- 10:06Which one? Tumblr.
- 10:07The tech guy who his one tech thing was fake fingerprints.
- 10:12No, no, he had the wasn't he was the one with the little thing
- 10:15that got the garage. Yeah.
- 10:17Recorded the frequency that the garage door.
- 10:19Oh, yeah. As if that's it.
- 10:21Yeah.
- 10:22Which apparently they could have just walked around to the back of the garage
- 10:25anyways, because there was an open door in that scene to not pick up on that.
- 10:29Oh, yeah. Because like when they're in there and steal the car.
- 10:32Yeah. That girl like walks up and he's just standing there in the open.
- 10:35I can we talk about like real quick?
- 10:38I know we haven't talked about anything about it yet.
- 10:40So the the goons that work for Robisi in the beginning.
- 10:46So like James Kahn or not.
- 10:49James Kahn was like, what fucking movie are you watching?
- 10:52Scott Kane. Yeah.
- 10:53So you're talking about is it King?
- 10:55I don't know. Con King.
- 10:56I thought he was a Scott. Yeah. Scott Khan, I'm pretty sure.
- 10:58Oh, well, just the names of the the boosters in the beginning.
- 11:02There's there's Kip Reigns, which is Nicolas Cage's younger brother.
- 11:06Robisi. Yeah. Played by Gary Robisi there.
- 11:09Or whatever his name is.
- 11:10Greasy, greasy, greasy.
- 11:12My first note of this movie was by Gary.
- 11:13You see, so greasy.
- 11:16If Gary Busey ever plays Nicolas Cage's younger brother,
- 11:20I will buy 30 copies of that movie and mail one to every listener
- 11:26who gives me a comment that's just burnt on DVDs
- 11:29that someone's had lined around for 20 years.
- 11:31Just an old CDRW. Yeah. Yeah.
- 11:34Um, but I wanted to talk about these these guys real quick.
- 11:38So there was Kip Reigns.
- 11:40There's a guy named Tumblr who has the dumbest looking mutton chops
- 11:45and is just, I don't know, a beefcake idiot.
- 11:49Fuck, what was that other guy's name?
- 11:51There was Mirror Man, the one to be Dave Chappelle.
- 11:55Oh, he's the tech guy. Never shuts his mouth. Yeah.
- 11:57They'll say the thing that pisses me the most off
- 12:00about the guy with the sunglasses is that he never takes them off.
- 12:03Yeah, you know, he's completely blind for half of that movie. Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:06Everything happens at night.
- 12:07Got to wear your mirrored shades. Yeah.
- 12:10So, yeah, Mirror Man, Tumblr.
- 12:11There's a guy named Toby. That's the screw up.
- 12:14Yeah, Toby doesn't do anything.
- 12:15He's the one that like get he's like, I can get into the DMV.
- 12:19Hack into the DMV, change
- 12:22license plates and this and that.
- 12:23And it's like, OK, you're you're an idiot.
- 12:26And there was Frab Frab, the one you're thinking who hires pizza
- 12:30like a madman and apparently steals drug dealer cars
- 12:33and brings a bunch of heroin back into the shop.
- 12:35I've never seen heroin.
- 12:36Can you tell heroin apart from other white powder drugs?
- 12:39They could probably not by looking. Yeah.
- 12:41I didn't see any like gum rubs or anything like that.
- 12:44Now that we've kind of talked about that scene, what's this movie about?
- 12:48So Nick Cage gets pulled back in for one more heist.
- 12:51He used to boost cars for a living, skip town for mysterious reasons
- 12:55until his brother, Robisi Kip, goes a little wild on a job
- 13:00and gets the attention of the cops and now is being held hostage by Dr.
- 13:05Who Christopher Eccleston with a great wig
- 13:09who is threatening to kill his brother to kill Nick Cage brother.
- 13:14Memphis Reigns gets pulled back in to steal 50 cars in four nights.
- 13:19Otherwise, him and his brother are dead.
- 13:22To be clear, that's the job that his brother signed up for.
- 13:24And then his brother bashed it.
- 13:25Now they have to do it in the compressed time frame. Yeah, right.
- 13:28Or else they're going to go into that coffin that Christopher Eccleston built.
- 13:32So because he's impressive.
- 13:34Yeah, he's the carpenter. He's an accomplished wood worker.
- 13:37Yeah, that's his that's his mafia name, the carpenter.
- 13:39Because it's 2000. He's a lame ass character.
- 13:42I did not enjoy as well as your own motivation.
- 13:46We I understand why Christopher Eccleston hates fucking Hollywood
- 13:49because he was like British and mildly menacing.
- 13:52So they just kept making him like shitty bad guys.
- 13:55Foreigners are scary.
- 13:56That's true. We don't like him here.
- 13:58That was my one problem with one of my one problem is just that
- 14:01the lack of motivation for the villain, right?
- 14:03He's just being a jerk. Yeah, jerk.
- 14:05He's promised somebody else 50 cars, and if he doesn't deliver,
- 14:08he's going to look like an asshole. Yeah, it's not he's going to die.
- 14:11It's not like the other guy's going to kill him or something or like.
- 14:14Also, so the job is only worth $200,000.
- 14:16When I heard that, I was like, fuck that.
- 14:18Yeah, that was 2000, $200,000 in 2000 money.
- 14:23Well, OK, so inflate that up to 500.
- 14:25I mean, 300,000 million.
- 14:26Yeah, it's like, I mean, the job is worth it.
- 14:29We can use the rule of 72 here to figure out how quickly that would double.
- 14:33Oh, good. Yeah. Do that for us, please.
- 14:35I'm not going to put the job is mostly to save his brother.
- 14:37He doesn't care about the money. Sure.
- 14:38And we're busy. Fucking sucks.
- 14:41He's a fuck up. You see his house. It's shitty.
- 14:44Oh, man. His breakfast making skills suck.
- 14:47What? What's in this?
- 14:48What's in this? I don't know.
- 14:50Yeah, it's garbage.
- 14:52If my brother tried to serve that to me, I don't know.
- 14:55Push him over. What was it? They're estranged. That's true.
- 14:59That was kind of a fuck. Right.
- 15:00First, was it though?
- 15:02I think it was like an I helped you breakfast.
- 15:04But then Nick Cage is trying to be like, you know, be nice.
- 15:07He hasn't seen him in six years.
- 15:08Yeah. Nick Cage now runs a go kart track like in the middle of nowhere.
- 15:13He looks like he's having a great fucking day.
- 15:15Also, you know, Memphis gets his pick of of the single moms.
- 15:21Yeah, the tracks.
- 15:22But the single moms that hang out in dirty go kart tracks.
- 15:26Yeah. So I love that because my note for the go kart track is like, OK,
- 15:30I want to go to a track and it just cuts to an old guy sitting in a chair.
- 15:33Mike comes with its old old guy. Yeah.
- 15:35As they all do.
- 15:37So Memphis has to get his old crew back together.
- 15:40Boosting these cars.
- 15:42Sorry, you said boosting.
- 15:44I counted the times they said boosting this movie.
- 15:4715, only 15. Yeah.
- 15:49Hmm. They're going to go hard on it in the end where they like
- 15:52keep calling each other a car boost and stuff like that.
- 15:5515 still a lot.
- 15:57It's a lot of times it's a lot of one word. Yeah.
- 15:59That is. Yeah.
- 16:01Yeah. He's so he's got to get his old crew back together.
- 16:04A real who's who's of nobody's except for Vinnie Jones.
- 16:08Wait, in terms of actors, because the actors are great.
- 16:11Yeah. Vinnie Jones.
- 16:11Again, Vinnie Jones is in this who I love and everything.
- 16:15He's the juggernaut bitch and she McBride.
- 16:18He plays. Yeah.
- 16:20So I love him.
- 16:22His character is great in this, too.
- 16:24My first exposure to him was in Boston Public.
- 16:26Who? Black guy with the hat.
- 16:28Oh, OK. The bucket hat.
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:30Which this again, movie of a time.
- 16:33He's introduced teaching an Asian woman how to drive.
- 16:36She cannot drive.
- 16:38And then he talks about how he can't swim.
- 16:40Yeah. There's just something to be said about realism in film.
- 16:44Oh, what I want.
- 16:46Keep that in there.
- 16:48Because we see this Asian driver crash the car in the first act
- 16:54in the second act when they're getting a list of all the cars.
- 16:56We see her at the DMV crying because she failed her driver's test.
- 17:00So the thing she says when she's at the DMV and she failed her test.
- 17:03Is you're supposed to speed up when someone's tailgating you.
- 17:06Yeah, I thought that was good.
- 17:08So in the third act, when the cops are chasing Memphis,
- 17:11I wanted to see her just back out and just like like hit a cop car
- 17:15to like stop one of the chases and she doesn't know what's going on.
- 17:18That would have been a good finish to that.
- 17:20Yeah. Three's right.
- 17:21Yeah, it would have been funny.
- 17:23Chekov's racism.
- 17:25Oh, my God.
- 17:27I assume Chekov was racist.
- 17:29Yeah, me too.
- 17:30Yeah. So 50 cars one night.
- 17:32Angelina Jolie's in here for.
- 17:36Oh, reasons.
- 17:37What is wrong with her look?
- 17:40Oh, my God.
- 17:41I've never been less attracted to her in my life.
- 17:45And I'm sure that's not the point of her role for me to be attracted to her.
- 17:50But I'm pretty sure that's the I think that's why she is super weird,
- 17:54white dreadlocks.
- 17:55She looked like she was one of the villains from the second Matrix movie.
- 17:59Like she looked like one of those little ghosty people.
- 18:03So pale. Like did they powder her to?
- 18:05I dude, I don't know.
- 18:07Everyone looks like shit in this movie.
- 18:09Looks like it's very one was hackers like 97 or something.
- 18:12OK, I was wondering if like she just came off hackers who just did this.
- 18:16Well, so apparently this that role was written specifically for her.
- 18:19I mean, the role had nothing to it.
- 18:22That's what I mean is I think they inserted it just so they could have Angelina
- 18:25Jolie in the movie.
- 18:26Hackers was 1995.
- 18:27OK, because yeah.
- 18:28Oh yeah, Fisher Stevens. Her in Memphis used to be a thing.
- 18:31My high school theater teacher was in hackers.
- 18:33Oh, shit. That's cool.
- 18:34She was roller skater.
- 18:36I guess there wasn't much to her roles.
- 18:38All right. Just rolling.
- 18:39Yeah. But so Memphis and her used to have a thing.
- 18:42Then he disappeared.
- 18:43Now she's gone legit.
- 18:44So she can't join the crew until she just does.
- 18:48Yeah. And then later on, there is a very uncomfortable
- 18:52car sexy scene, almost sex.
- 18:55I also didn't understand how their legs were intertwined in that scene.
- 18:58I very confused. Yeah.
- 19:00Have you ever had sex in a car?
- 19:01The front seats of a car?
- 19:02No, I've actually I don't think I've ever had sex in the car.
- 19:05I've tried. I've had sex in the front seat of a car, but it was a minivan.
- 19:08So there was some space.
- 19:10I did it in a GEO.
- 19:11In a GEO? Yeah.
- 19:13It's one a metro storm.
- 19:14OK, damn. All right.
- 19:17Respect. I mean, it's no metro.
- 19:19Have you ever been in a GEO store?
- 19:20No, but I've been in a GEO metro.
- 19:22Oh, yeah. It's about the same amount of space.
- 19:24Less backseat in a storm.
- 19:26The sports car of the GEO.
- 19:29It is it had all four cylinders.
- 19:31This is this is relevant for this movie, certainly.
- 19:34Yeah, we're a car.
- 19:35That's definitely a car that was taken over for.
- 19:37What is it? Scrich and scratch on car talk.
- 19:39Oh, yeah. Click and clack.
- 19:40Yeah, we do have a very quintessential Nick Cage moment in the film,
- 19:44because right when he's going back to being a hardened criminal,
- 19:48he gets his crime jacket. Yeah, crime jacket.
- 19:50I love a jacket.
- 19:52And then he says, I'm a bad man.
- 19:56Which is basically as good as if he had said, Cranton.
- 19:58Yeah, Cranton.
- 19:59Cranton jacket. What would your crime jacket be?
- 20:02I feel like, you know, that kind of purple velour
- 20:05coat that he's got in that Dead by Daylight game.
- 20:08Like, oh, yeah, I think that'd be my look.
- 20:10Just Nicholas Cage's actual jacket. Yeah.
- 20:13I would probably wear
- 20:15like one of those fleece lined bomber jackets.
- 20:19Oh, that's good.
- 20:20I'm going to go with like, oh, like a deer skin vest.
- 20:25Not a jacket, but like a vest.
- 20:27Nice. Does it have fringe?
- 20:29Sure. Cool. And turquoise.
- 20:31Yes.
- 20:33Coterie.
- 20:36Coterie jacket.
- 20:37Nice. Very on brand.
- 20:40Or a windbreaker.
- 20:42Ooh, so good for best.
- 20:44Crime.
- 20:50So, yeah, this movie is not a movie that anybody watches for the plot.
- 20:54I think it's fair to not talk about that any further.
- 20:58No, it's a Bruckheimer movie.
- 20:59Yes. You're here for some explosion.
- 21:01Yeah, it's two hours of boosting cars.
- 21:06You get to watch them steal cars in various
- 21:09manners between either like
- 21:12getting keys made from the dealership to like go steal them.
- 21:16Or at one point, they when that fails for a couple of cars,
- 21:19they break into the police impound and steal cars
- 21:23that they tried to steal earlier and already had keys for.
- 21:27They steal one nice car that just has like a door open button underneath it.
- 21:31Oh, yeah. That was a nice car. That was cool.
- 21:34It was like a hot rod.
- 21:35Why would you have that?
- 21:36Yeah, don't don't have a little door open button.
- 21:38They steal a car from Dr. Kelso.
- 21:41Oh, yeah. Which tells me this movie is in the Scrubs universe.
- 21:44What's the one where he's an ambulance?
- 21:46Oh, yeah. Bringing out the bringing out the dead has Carla's in there.
- 21:49Yeah. So as a nurse, as a nurse.
- 21:51So I'm just saying like all the cage films happen in the Scrubs universe.
- 21:55So you're saying that is the scrubs is actually in the NCU.
- 22:00Yeah. Which makes me think in the NCU,
- 22:03Nicolas Cage is the most generic looking person.
- 22:06Yeah. Similar to like how I'm super generic looking.
- 22:09He's now the every man in cages.
- 22:12Every man of the cage, Brockheimer films.
- 22:15I feel this is the one that just goes from the word go.
- 22:18It doesn't really ever slow down and it doesn't feel like two hours for me.
- 22:23No, it's just action. Yeah.
- 22:24And that's what it should be. Yeah.
- 22:26So it's car chases.
- 22:28It's cars being stolen a little bit of like criminal intrigue
- 22:32as they outsmart cops and those cops were kind of cool.
- 22:36So like, you know, we tried good cop, bad cop.
- 22:38I kind of liked both of those cops.
- 22:40Yeah, they were fine.
- 22:41They put the heat to that one guy who just works at the docks.
- 22:45He's just like, come on, man, I'm just trying to do my job.
- 22:47Well, we're going to talk to your boss.
- 22:48I'm like, fine. Well, that's I mean, people on parole aren't people.
- 22:52Sean, I was going to say,
- 22:55does anybody even know which one of us is which?
- 22:58And I'm like, no, that's only in photos that people don't know which one is.
- 23:01I introduce myself every time.
- 23:03Yeah, they know which one's mine.
- 23:05Identifiable voice and all.
- 23:06That'd be a weird long con if you were actually Sean.
- 23:09Yeah, it's just a huge bit.
- 23:11We just switched it up from that one time when Sean fucked up the intro.
- 23:15We did. Yeah.
- 23:16We talked about that for Nick and Sean's podcast
- 23:18where we're going to switch names to like our names have been changed
- 23:20to protect the innocent. Yeah.
- 23:22I was going to say, so I looked into some of the like the writing
- 23:24and stuff like that, and the guy that wrote this also wrote High Fidelity,
- 23:27which is like the most talky movie.
- 23:29Yeah, it's like the most strange.
- 23:30Yeah. But also J.J. Abrams did uncredited rewrites.
- 23:34Yeah, he did a lot of punch up work kind of in this era.
- 23:37He's he's sort of uncredited on a lot of movies to try and make like
- 23:41a little more interesting, funnier, snappier dialogue.
- 23:45Interesting. The director also directed Season of the Witch.
- 23:48Yeah. See, I did the work.
- 23:49That's just good because we did. Oh, great.
- 23:52People don't come here for facts.
- 23:54I was very nervous about being bad at this.
- 23:56So don't worry. We set the bar real low. Yeah.
- 23:58Great. We set you up to succeed. Yeah.
- 24:01Yeah. OK. Favorite chasing.
- 24:07I mean, the last one's really.
- 24:08I know there's really only the one, but it's huge and it's great.
- 24:11Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:12Well, he's in the Mustang, Eleanor, his white whale, his unicorn,
- 24:16his unicorn, which was like there's only one of these in the city.
- 24:21It's going to be the easiest one to track down if the cops get on to you.
- 24:23Why not just steal it first?
- 24:25I mean, it's because he's worried about it
- 24:27because every time he's tried to steal this car, it's gone bad.
- 24:29And then it goes problem. Let's be real. Yeah.
- 24:31I did like when he was trying to find the car.
- 24:33He goes to the dealership and he talks to that guy.
- 24:36So Nick Cage goes into this dealership.
- 24:37It's like a Ferrari dealership.
- 24:39And he's acting out this character
- 24:43just being very kind of foppish.
- 24:45And the the dealer comes up to him. He's like, can I help you?
- 24:49He's like, perhaps.
- 24:50Hmm. But you know, this is the one.
- 24:54Yes, yes, yes.
- 24:55I saw three of these parked outside the local Starbucks this morning,
- 24:59which tells me one thing.
- 25:01There's too many self-indulgent wieners in this city with too much bloody money.
- 25:07Now, if I was driving a 1967 to 75 GTB for Cam.
- 25:13So you obviously knew what you were coming in here for.
- 25:16But he says wiener. And I liked that.
- 25:18You just like the wiener part.
- 25:19Well, yeah, I wrote it down because he said wiener.
- 25:21I just wrote down self-indulgent wiener.
- 25:23Yeah. What I like, though, is it's so corny, but he just goes,
- 25:26your name's Roger. I'm Roger.
- 25:28Two Rogers don't make a right.
- 25:30And it's like, that's such a shitty joke, but it's perfect.
- 25:32Beautiful for that character that that character is playing.
- 25:36Well, from a long quote to a really short one, when he meets Chris
- 25:39Rackle some of the first time and Chris Rackle's like, do I look like an asshole to you?
- 25:43Yeah. Yeah, it's a short quote.
- 25:48I'm always so flustered in these situations.
- 25:50So like he ends up throwing the, you know, 10,000 bucks or whatever
- 25:53it was back at Cage's face and nobody collected that money.
- 25:56And it always drives me crazy.
- 25:57I know it's like that other one where they in a rage where he doesn't recollect his money.
- 26:01It's like, yeah, money goes into the poker game, puts the money down
- 26:05and just start stabbing people and leaves.
- 26:06It's like, wait a minute.
- 26:08This isn't like a pay to play situation.
- 26:10You don't have to like pay money to stab somebody.
- 26:12Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can just stabbing are usually free. Yeah.
- 26:17John, do you have a quote?
- 26:17Oh, I have many.
- 26:19The one that's not actually by Nick Cage is by Timothy Oliphant's
- 26:23detective guy who very inconsistent, by the way,
- 26:26like sometimes he's schmarmie, sometimes he's very serious.
- 26:29I could not put it on him.
- 26:30Stupid. Like, yeah.
- 26:32But also sometimes smart.
- 26:34Yeah, very confusing character.
- 26:35Anyway, so at one time he says to Nick, by the time you get out, asshole,
- 26:40there won't even be cars will be all coming or driving around in.
- 26:46Spaceships.
- 26:48I loved how much Timothy Oliphant's character annoyed the other cop.
- 26:53Like he kept saying things like when he says the other cop's wife is mean.
- 26:58Oh, yeah. And that look he gets in return.
- 27:01Well, she is. Yeah.
- 27:03She can be a little mean. Yeah.
- 27:06That was a good character.
- 27:06That was probably the best side character, like supporting character
- 27:11in this movie. Yeah.
- 27:13My favorite cage line, it comes at the end when being Reims finally talks.
- 27:16And he just like, not being Reims of Vinny Jones.
- 27:20Who's racist now?
- 27:23Vinny Jones's line of wax is poetically at the end of the film for the first time.
- 27:28And then Nick Cage just goes, Hey, man, I thought you were from Long Beach
- 27:33and shrugs.
- 27:34My favorite quote from this is definitely I mean, it's not
- 27:38it's just one that I use a lot in my life.
- 27:42They're getting ready to go out into do their boos.
- 27:46And Nick Cage just preps and he's like.
- 27:48OK, let's ride.
- 27:50And that's it. They're listening to low rider.
- 27:52Yeah. And all the all the young all the young kids are like,
- 27:55what the fuck is going on?
- 27:56And all like the old school boosters are just like.
- 27:59Shut up. Yeah, it's a hype moment.
- 28:01Yeah. But I don't know.
- 28:03I say that all the time and I love it.
- 28:05I wanted it to be tied to the music cue better.
- 28:07He just like just random does it randomly.
- 28:10Yeah. I mean, it was it was internal.
- 28:11I guess it's hard. You got to you got to rev up.
- 28:14Yeah.
- 28:15I will say one thing. We've been talking about Vinnie Jones.
- 28:18That it about him not talking.
- 28:20Did anybody else pick up?
- 28:21He actually talks earlier in the movie as well.
- 28:23So when they're prying open the like security box thing in the garage,
- 28:26the guy. Yeah, thank you.
- 28:28He he's having a hard time.
- 28:29And so Vinnie Jones comes in with like a screwdriver and says very quietly
- 28:33like this and prize it open.
- 28:35Oh, I was like, really? Did I hear that?
- 28:37Sphinx. It was it.
- 28:39I just rewatched that scene over.
- 28:40It's a knife. And then
- 28:42Mirror Man Mirror Man.
- 28:44Why is that the hardest wonder?
- 28:46I don't remember. But what's the other?
- 28:48Mirror Man like he was a man with mirrors on his whole time
- 28:52and just tells him he's going to kick his ass and being a gun.
- 28:54Just like holds the knife up to him.
- 28:55He's like, man, why are you going to take it so seriously?
- 28:57I liked that pairing of all the like groups to be put together.
- 29:02Vinnie Jones and Mirror Man, TJ Cross is the actor.
- 29:06They are the best combination because he's the best.
- 29:10They are the best combination because he never shuts up
- 29:13and Vinnie never talks.
- 29:16Did you guys get the Michael Pena sighting?
- 29:19Yes. As the stereotype.
- 29:21Hello. Yeah. OK.
- 29:23So that's what that was. OK. Yeah.
- 29:25So Eleanor, the Mustang, has such a weird fucking history in Hollywood
- 29:30because the character or the car is trademarked from the first film.
- 29:34And the wife of the original creator
- 29:38apparently still owns the trademark and is super lawsuit happy.
- 29:41If anyone ever tries to like use Eleanor or even tries to paint their Mustang
- 29:46that color, she like just sends an army of lawyers after him.
- 29:49It sounds like an asshole. Yeah. What color? Vaguely silver.
- 29:52Yeah. Like the specific paint with a specific stripe.
- 29:54She like and we'll never know. The 70s were in black and white.
- 29:58This has never been tried because she just sends so many threatening
- 30:01like her goons out that people just they're like, I don't want to have
- 30:05to pay to deal with this, but she always takes these people's cars.
- 30:09There was a guy online who was building a like robo car of Eleanor
- 30:14and she sent her goons out and they like took it and he still doesn't have it
- 30:18because he doesn't have the money to fight that lawsuit.
- 30:21She's she's a. Yeah. Yeah.
- 30:23There's a story here. Do we? There is this this lady.
- 30:26Oh, we got to go steal Eleanor. Multiple.
- 30:29Yeah. Weird little history to this film.
- 30:31It's been gone in 60 years.
- 30:34I mean, she will die soon, I'm sure.
- 30:36That's fair. They never actually like say that in this movie, though.
- 30:39What that an old lady is hanging on to the.
- 30:41Yeah. Now they never talk about that.
- 30:43That thing that happened years later.
- 30:44No, but the God in 60 seconds, which I assume is just like
- 30:47if you're stealing a car, you want to be gone in 60 seconds.
- 30:49Oh, I know this because I did the research. Yeah.
- 30:53So when they're at the
- 30:56the impound lot behind them is a sign from the original movie that says,
- 31:00if you leave your car unlocked, it will be gone in 60 seconds.
- 31:04Yeah. And now, you know, dear listeners, background posters.
- 31:08That's where the story is.
- 31:09The story in this is all about that air tank
- 31:12that gets dropped and pinballs off of four different cop cars in the final.
- 31:17That chase scene is great. It is resolved.
- 31:20It's got everything.
- 31:20It's got construction workers who don't give a fuck.
- 31:23Yeah, I really wanted to see like a plate glass being
- 31:26oh, yeah, parted across the street.
- 31:28We get a or a painting of an alleyway that they drive into.
- 31:31I mean, it's practically there. The wrecking ball like slams a cop car
- 31:35through a wall. Are you OK, man?
- 31:38Good. Are you OK, man?
- 31:41Yeah, because you just went through a wall.
- 31:45Another quotable moment.
- 31:46Yeah, it was good.
- 31:47Something about this movie that really got me is like Nicholas Cage
- 31:50really is the straight man through the movie.
- 31:53Everybody else has some like fun character piece to them
- 31:58or like moment and he just doesn't.
- 32:02The closest he gets is like dry humping Angelina Jolie in a car.
- 32:07That's it. I really enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun.
- 32:10That's the thing about it.
- 32:11It's like there's nothing to sink your teeth into.
- 32:14There's no story. There's no.
- 32:16Well, I mean, there's a story, but it's like summed up in two sentences.
- 32:21But but it is fun.
- 32:22It's well designed action and it has a good pace.
- 32:27Yeah, it's car porn.
- 32:28Yeah, there's not a lot of meat on the bone, but damn fine bone.
- 32:32So I asked my wife if she wanted to watch this with me and she's like,
- 32:34No, I've seen this like eight times in 15 minute intervals on TBS over the years.
- 32:39That's how I'd seen this movie before.
- 32:40Yeah. And that's rough.
- 32:43Why not as it was intended to be consumed, certainly.
- 32:45But commercial breaks in an action movie.
- 32:48Kill me because it drains all momentum from the movie.
- 32:53I feel sorry for her.
- 32:54If she wants to come over and watch it, we can.
- 32:56Oh, bring her on for.
- 32:57Well, never mind.
- 32:58I guess we don't know if this goes forward or not.
- 32:59I was like, bring her on for the second season.
- 33:01There you go.
- 33:02I thought you were going to imply that the podcast fails.
- 33:07I don't know if this is going to keep going.
- 33:08I was like, Oh, yeah, you're right.
- 33:09This could be the last episode.
- 33:10Er, er, er.
- 33:12Ouch.
- 33:13What do you guys put it on the diagram?
- 33:15The good cage, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, really?
- 33:17Caged movie, bad, good.
- 33:19I am not working well today.
- 33:20No, it's morning.
- 33:21Morning suck. Yeah.
- 33:23I feel good about the cage and good about the movie.
- 33:27Yeah, I would agree.
- 33:29Yeah, not cage is best performance, but far from his worst.
- 33:32Yeah.
- 33:33Mid cage. Really fun movie.
- 33:36Ghostwriter, spirit of vengeance.
- 33:37I love it.
- 33:39I'm done.
- 33:40That's all I got to say. Good.
- 33:42All right. I also kind of loved it, weirdly enough.
- 33:44It's fucking wacky and I am here for it.
- 33:47So this is from the same director as Mom and Dad and the crash films.
- 33:51Crank. Crank.
- 33:52Yeah. Crash is very different.
- 33:55Crank films.
- 33:57And by and large, this film is shot as if it's like a mid range
- 34:01BBC action drama until you actually get to the action scenes,
- 34:06at which point it goes off the fucking rails and I am 100 percent here for it.
- 34:11I really enjoyed it.
- 34:12I'm concerned that it got misplaced in our bracket.
- 34:16Like it could have been a fucking weird one.
- 34:18Yeah, it probably should have been.
- 34:20It fits fine in both because it is good action.
- 34:23There's, you know, motorcycle riding.
- 34:26There's oh, OK.
- 34:29When he turns that vehicle like at the quarry,
- 34:32that one of his yeah, into one of his hell beasts.
- 34:35It's like, oh, that thing is so cool.
- 34:37I literally when they first comes up on the screen, I'm literally like,
- 34:39there's no way that's a real thing that looks way too menacing. Yeah.
- 34:42And then I went on the Wikipedia page and they're like, yeah,
- 34:44this was the heaviest land vehicle for like 20 years in the earth.
- 34:48So we were Sean and I were walking the other day
- 34:50and we were talking about how everything turns into a hell vehicle.
- 34:54Right. And Ghost Rider, how many miles did you go, by the way?
- 34:56Oh, we're getting dangerously close.
- 35:00So in Ghost Rider one, we know from the old rider
- 35:03that the horse can become a hell horse.
- 35:05Yes. So literally anything can become a hell whatever.
- 35:08So I was like, could we just like jump on
- 35:11Sean's shoulders and turn him into a horse?
- 35:14What if he's taking a dump and he like pushes a little too hard?
- 35:17And then the toilet flames out and he's just riding a hell toilet.
- 35:21I love it. That's pretty good, too.
- 35:23Not a vehicle, though.
- 35:24I mean, it's a vehicle for poop, but Sean is definitely a vehicle.
- 35:28It's a vehicle for deep thoughts.
- 35:30So spirit of vengeance, Nicholas Cage is back as Johnny Blaze, the ghost rider.
- 35:40He has been running from his deal with the devil,
- 35:42trying to get away from himself and find a cure
- 35:45only to wind up trying to track down the son of Satan
- 35:48to save him from becoming the devil's form on Earth.
- 35:53Also starring Idris Elba with the worst French accent ever.
- 35:58He was nominated for an award for that, like a real one, not a Razzie.
- 36:00Really? No. Uh huh.
- 36:02Why? I don't.
- 36:04It wasn't a BAFTA, but it was like a knockoff BAFTA.
- 36:06OK. No, she wasn't a real American award for a decent French accent.
- 36:12I had to think about what BAFTA stood for.
- 36:14It's British Academy of Film and TV Actors.
- 36:18OK. Was it a British Razzie?
- 36:21I don't think so.
- 36:22They got nominated for a lot of Razzie's, too, though.
- 36:23Yeah. What was up with his contacts?
- 36:26Like his eyes were just weird.
- 36:27Why did he need weird contact with your eyes?
- 36:29Yeah, it's strange.
- 36:31But I liked him. He was just a drunk French dude.
- 36:34Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 36:35Especially at the end when he's like, got the super old bottles of wine.
- 36:38Yeah, I love when they.
- 36:40So go good on a salad.
- 36:41That was fun.
- 36:42I think when Peter and I discussed this a little bit, my description of this film is
- 36:46it's Ghost Rider with a lower budget, but they spent the money correctly
- 36:51in that they spent the money on the action scenes.
- 36:54Everything else that isn't an action scene is very hammy, very over, like overly dramatic,
- 37:00overly acted.
- 37:01The supporting cast is you have Giles from Anthony Stewart Head from Buffy
- 37:06as a priest who dies in five minutes.
- 37:09And then later, you have the Highlander, who, according to IMDB, did three months of sword
- 37:13training for this movie, which I'm like, bullshit.
- 37:16I think I believe that because the way he whips that sword around when it all goes dark
- 37:21after, you know, he's trying to behead her or whatever, or behead the kid like that looks
- 37:25professional. Well, the only.
- 37:27But he's the Highlander. He shouldn't need to train.
- 37:29Right. So the only reason the sword play, I think, looks better in this film than it
- 37:32does in the Highlander is that man is legally blind.
- 37:34So if they just put him in a great place, he's going to be like, oh, I'm going to be
- 37:37blind. So if they just put him in a dark room and they're like, look cool with a sword,
- 37:41easy when he has to like sword fight with live steel against someone else, they have
- 37:44to stand five feet away from each other because he can't see what he's doing.
- 37:48Most people have to stand like five feet away from each other in a sword fight.
- 37:52This isn't the blindness thing. Most people have to stand pretty close.
- 37:55You're thinking of knife fights. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
- 37:57What if you have one of those like Sephiroth swords that are really long?
- 38:00Oh, yeah. OK. Well, then you could probably stand nine feet away from each other.
- 38:05Cool.
- 38:06It's not a direct sequel.
- 38:08It's more of a reboot.
- 38:09Yeah, it feels like a soft reboot.
- 38:11Yeah. Peter Fonda was interested in coming back for this.
- 38:15I read I thought he was dead at this point.
- 38:17Yeah. Oh, apparently he was interested in coming back to play the devil again.
- 38:21Read five pages of the script and said no.
- 38:23Well, I don't blame him.
- 38:24I mean, there actually is not much of a script to this movie.
- 38:26That's the biggest fault to it.
- 38:27But I fucking hated Ghost Rider one.
- 38:30And I thought this movie was a blast and it because it was nothing.
- 38:33It was popcorn. It was candy in my mouth.
- 38:36And then at the end, I was like, I could have more candy.
- 38:39And it was sub 90 minutes.
- 38:40And it was an hour. 29.
- 38:42It's so fucking nice. Yeah.
- 38:44That is refreshing.
- 38:45Nick Cage is not in great shape in this film, but he's in the leather jacket
- 38:48the whole time, so it doesn't really matter.
- 38:50I love the fact that he's just kind of like this old beaten down like Ghost Rider.
- 38:55The style in this, though, is cool, man.
- 38:57Like I liked it. Yeah, I like the insertion of like the little animated bits.
- 39:02Yeah. Or illustrated bits.
- 39:03Oh, really?
- 39:04I thought it was a fine way to like tell us more, John.
- 39:08Frequent listeners of me and not this podcast will know that I've done
- 39:12a little bit of writing and like that just strikes me as such lazy.
- 39:15Like, yes, I realize the writing in this movie is blah, blah, blah.
- 39:18Also, can we talk about why?
- 39:20Because the writers that were involved in this movie are like accomplished writers.
- 39:24There's no reason this should be this bad.
- 39:26Yeah. Probably time limits.
- 39:28They're like, we'll pay you for a movie in like
- 39:32give us a movie in a week, two weeks. Yeah.
- 39:34I mean, we're talking about the people that did Batman.
- 39:38The good ones.
- 39:39David S.
- 39:39Goyer. Yeah, David S. Goyer wrote this.
- 39:41He's also written the worst of the blades.
- 39:43He directed Blade Trinity. I love Blade Trinity.
- 39:46I kind of like Blade Trinity, too.
- 39:47It is the worst of the blades, though.
- 39:50But I think it's because I like What's Her Face.
- 39:52I just like Round Rounds. I was going to say, right.
- 39:54Oh, no, not Beal.
- 39:56The bad vampire villain.
- 39:58I like the bad girls.
- 39:59Was it Parker Posey? Is that who it is?
- 40:01I think so. Parker Posey, such a bad girl. Real bad.
- 40:05Yeah. I was thinking of January Jones.
- 40:07Oh, she's a bad girl, too.
- 40:09I just like calling girls bad girls.
- 40:11Sean, you're a bad girl. Thank you.
- 40:14You know, spanking.
- 40:15Balls, big round balls.
- 40:19So yeah, Johnny Blaze has to get Danny, the son of the devil.
- 40:22I'm just going to go back to it.
- 40:24I was like, fuck you guys.
- 40:26I'm not a bad girl.
- 40:27I said, thank you.
- 40:28I said, when you say you're going to spank me.
- 40:32OK, this is another movie where the plot doesn't fucking matter.
- 40:35The devil Rourke wants Danny because they can do a soul transfer
- 40:39and then the devil can have his full power on Earth.
- 40:42That's the story.
- 40:43Nothing. It doesn't matter.
- 40:44Johnny's trying to track him down.
- 40:46And the deal is Idris Elba's.
- 40:49Clandestine monk group can remove the ghost rider from him.
- 40:52But it turns out they really only needed Idris Elba
- 40:55because the rest of the monks didn't help.
- 40:57Yeah, they just wanted to kill it.
- 40:59Yeah. But like what kind of assholes are they that they wouldn't just do that
- 41:01for free?
- 41:02They're supposed to be some kind of weird Christian monk order thing
- 41:04like seems like eliminating a hell demon from the surface of the earth
- 41:08would be kind of up their alley.
- 41:10Yeah, but face tattoos aren't cheap.
- 41:12And they had a lot of face tattoo.
- 41:13They did have a lot of.
- 41:15Apparently, Chris Lambert hated the makeup so much
- 41:18that he just didn't take it off and would just go back to his hotel with that.
- 41:21I think that's what the decay guy did as well,
- 41:24because his makeup went from like very thick and white at the beginning
- 41:28towards the end. It was like kind of pink and sweaty.
- 41:31Yeah. Blackout.
- 41:33Oh, OK. Yeah.
- 41:35Things are showing through the scenes a little bit in terms of the.
- 41:37You can see where the budget was, and it was on one.
- 41:40The ghost rider looks fucking awesome.
- 41:42Yeah, I completely agree.
- 41:44Any like we said, any vehicle he rides in this becomes a hell vehicle.
- 41:48And like Danny's even like, well, what if you get in a taxi?
- 41:51What if you ride a camel?
- 41:53Hell taxi. I really wanted him like I want a ghost rider movie
- 41:57where he gets in a monster truck.
- 41:59I want to see him drive Grave Digger.
- 42:01Well, I want.
- 42:02Here's the thing is to be so sick alarms bouncing around.
- 42:05This movie had truckasaurus.
- 42:08Hell truckasaurus.
- 42:09This movie had so many great little ideas that I really wish it
- 42:12would have done well off to get a third one of these films for sure.
- 42:14With these same directors, that would have been so much fun
- 42:17to let them do what they did, but with an actual budget.
- 42:21You write a letter to Kevin Feige.
- 42:23Yeah, it's funny because it so the budget was like
- 42:26anywhere between that says 57, 17 and 23 dollars.
- 42:30Somewhere between 17 and 23.
- 42:32And it did make a profit.
- 42:33It made 132, which, you know, you had advertising and all that stuff.
- 42:36It's like that's not great money, but it wasn't a fucking bomb.
- 42:40Well, it wasn't the states, though.
- 42:41This took international box to cover.
- 42:44This was the second and last film under the Marvel Nights imprint
- 42:48where they were trying to do slightly darker movies.
- 42:51Punisher Warzone being the first, which was an R rated Punisher film
- 42:54starring Ray Stevens, which I love. Same.
- 42:56And this, which was originally supposed to be R rated.
- 42:59And then Sony got cold feet and made them make a PG-13.
- 43:03That's sad. This would have been way cooler.
- 43:05I was R rated. Yeah.
- 43:06The coolest thing about this film is if you watch the making of this movie,
- 43:11the directors are like both cameramen and the way they got
- 43:16a lot of those motorcycle stunt scenes where like you see the wheel up close.
- 43:19The director's just sketching the blades on the back of the motorcycle
- 43:22holding the camera. Yeah, it's wild.
- 43:24So the scene where Idris Elba goes over the cliff director
- 43:28holding on the motorcycle, riding behind it and just let's go
- 43:32at the last second and just goes around that turn.
- 43:34And the other director is in a harness over the cliff
- 43:37that slingshots him back with a camera with the stunt man coming at him.
- 43:42It's insane. Yeah, those guys are pretty crazy.
- 43:44I've got it written down and like that was the coolest shot. Yeah, for sure.
- 43:48That's so bad.
- 43:50And when they're when they're doing the stunts on the road,
- 43:53when like Johnny is trying to show off to Danny, same thing.
- 43:56He's sketching like a get behind the motorcycle and just like letting go
- 44:00and the other motorcycle stunt man just right by him.
- 44:04Watching how they film this movie is insane.
- 44:07I just want to say I haven't heard the word sketching since the last time
- 44:09I played Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, I think.
- 44:11I've never even heard it until right now, and we heard it about 15 times.
- 44:15So there was also
- 44:16there was a sketching and stitches.
- 44:18There was a yes, they do.
- 44:20Probably. Yeah, there was a sketching video at one point.
- 44:23Oh, weird. Yeah, that is weird.
- 44:25All I know is rollerblades are dumb.
- 44:28You're more of a roller skate man. Whoa.
- 44:30Hot take hot takes. Tell us more. Hot takes.
- 44:34Oh, I hate those inline wheels.
- 44:36One time I was. OK, so here's a rollerblading start.
- 44:39I was rollerblading down this hill in the town I grew up in.
- 44:44I was maybe like 12.
- 44:46So it was OK for me to be on rollerblades.
- 44:48I'm going around this corner, and I didn't want to be on the street
- 44:51because it was a pretty blind corner.
- 44:54It was a really steep hill and sharp corner.
- 44:57So I'm going down the sidewalk because I knew nobody ever walks up that hill.
- 45:01And as I'm getting down, there's a funeral home at the end,
- 45:05and somebody was just pulling out of the funeral home.
- 45:07And they like I'm going maybe like 35 on my rollerblades.
- 45:12And this car pulls out and it's like, fuck,
- 45:15I'm going to hit them in like 40 feet.
- 45:18And there was just a chain link fence next to me.
- 45:20And without thinking, I just grabbed the fence and just clothesline myself.
- 45:25Like this hand got like kind of like caught in the chain links.
- 45:29I just like go up and then hit myself like right down on the ground,
- 45:33like maybe seven, eight feet from the corner where this car is.
- 45:37And they just kind of looked and then pulled out and left.
- 45:39I'm like, are you fucking kidding me?
- 45:4212 year old, too. Yeah.
- 45:43I'm just dying on the side of the road.
- 45:45You gravel embedded into your arm.
- 45:48So you said something interesting there and that it was OK.
- 45:50You're on rollerblades because you were 12.
- 45:52So I'm curious, are you saying you were old enough or young enough
- 45:56to be on rollerblades? What's the appropriate age to rollerblade?
- 45:59I think you can rollerblade up until.
- 46:03Twelve and a half.
- 46:04And then you have to go into classic roller skates.
- 46:07No, then you should either be skateboarding or taking the bus.
- 46:12Like those are your options.
- 46:14I'm getting back to this because I do love this movie.
- 46:18Nicholas Cage is outstanding in this.
- 46:20Like he's worked with this director again.
- 46:22This director just wants him to go fully cage when he's a ghostwriter.
- 46:26It's two speaking lines, but it doesn't really speak like the one.
- 46:29He's the ghostwriter.
- 46:30And it's cool that he was doing, you know, the motion stuff for the ghostwriter.
- 46:36Doesn't really play.
- 46:37That's Nick Cage. It doesn't really need to be Nick Cage,
- 46:40especially because they do a lot of like speed up, slow down,
- 46:42because the spirit of vengeance is is an insane fallen angel.
- 46:48So they really play up that spirit of the Vengeance,
- 46:53that the ghostwriter is just toying with people.
- 46:55So there's just he's just standing there, just swinging his chain
- 46:58and just like swaying back and forth while everyone's like,
- 47:01what the fuck is going on?
- 47:02Yeah, some of that was kind of weird, but I did love the physicality
- 47:06that he brought, especially with the head motions, because very jerky.
- 47:10And doing a Stevie Wonder at one point. Yeah. Yeah.
- 47:14But it looks good for, you know, something that doesn't have muscles like.
- 47:18Yeah, maybe it's doesn't do.
- 47:20There's no weird pointing.
- 47:21He doesn't do that. Oh, I know. We're so sad about that.
- 47:24I really miss his weird point from the first movie.
- 47:25That's the only thing I liked from the first movie.
- 47:27Peter and I were talking about how perfect it would have been at the end
- 47:30when he like goes to heal Danny and he's like, and then he like hands
- 47:34and it's like, oh, it should have been a pointing heel.
- 47:37This movie has also the it's the first time that they have an in universe
- 47:43reason for a Nick Cage performance because the demon is has gone insane.
- 47:48So Nick Cage just goes full on crazy.
- 47:52He just gets to be an insane person. Yeah.
- 47:54And thank goodness, because that's what we were all missing in life
- 47:56was an actual justification for Nick Cage has.
- 48:00Have any of you seen the stills of him in the Ghost Rider scenes?
- 48:06No. So Nick Cage.
- 48:09I mean, I paused it a few times.
- 48:10No, not that the CG like him on set as the Ghost Rider.
- 48:15He showed up on set, not telling anyone
- 48:18with full Baron Smedy makeup from Live and Let Die.
- 48:22So he had like witch doctor makeup, like white, white face
- 48:26with like blackout over his eyes and stuff to get more in character,
- 48:30which serves nothing to the movie.
- 48:33He just did that. Yeah, it helps him.
- 48:35Yeah, that's fine.
- 48:36It's just like fucking crazy person. And I love it.
- 48:38Are you saying you've never done that?
- 48:42Insane performance, insane action when the Ghost Rider gets blown up
- 48:45for the second time and he's just floating three feet above the ground
- 48:49and slowly spinning.
- 48:50Yeah, I was wondering if that was something like I haven't read
- 48:54a lot of Ghost Rider comics or anything.
- 48:55So I don't know like where his weakness is or anything like Venom
- 48:59has his sonic kind of weakness.
- 49:02Does the Ghost Rider have like a flash bang version?
- 49:07In the first one, it was daylight made him turn back into like
- 49:11regular Johnny Blaze, but they don't really fuck with that.
- 49:13Well, they do in the very beginning.
- 49:15They're like, that's right.
- 49:16Yeah, the Ghost Rider doesn't like the light.
- 49:18And it's when Danny gives him his powers back that he can go out in the day.
- 49:22Also, the fact that a movie of this era, a lot of CG heroes
- 49:28or a lot of CG action at the end of the film brought daylight.
- 49:30They're like, no, none of this darkness.
- 49:31We're not going to show you what's happening.
- 49:33Broad daylight Ghost Rider fight.
- 49:34Well, they had to save the darkness for all the.
- 49:37What was that guy's name? The rotting guy.
- 49:40Blackout blackout.
- 49:41Well, it makes sense.
- 49:43Yeah, the blackout scenes for the blackout.
- 49:45What was with those? I didn't.
- 49:47I don't know.
- 49:48The character in the comics power is he can just make anywhere he's at.
- 49:51Just pitch black so no one can say.
- 49:53Cone of darkness. Yeah, kind of.
- 49:56His power to just anything he touches just rots instantly.
- 49:58Except the Twinkie, except the Twinkie used, which is hilarious.
- 50:02Just by the way, that was very.
- 50:03Joke. But that led me to think who eats Twinkies like that?
- 50:06Because he just like puts it in his fucking mitt
- 50:09and like pops the bag by squishing it and then go gurgling into his mouth.
- 50:13He was driving it in once at the time he was busy.
- 50:16I can open a Twinkie and drive the fastest way to get a Twinkie in your mouth.
- 50:21Yeah, we have to use the plastic to. Yeah, that's fair.
- 50:24And I just swallowed the whole thing.
- 50:26Oh, I do love how deadly his chain was and how it was just splitting people
- 50:31in half and burning them up.
- 50:32But where was his penance there from the beginning?
- 50:36He does it to one guy, but they don't really show an effect.
- 50:39Yeah, there was no effect.
- 50:40It just kind of looked like he was staring people down and like
- 50:44enjoying watching them be afraid.
- 50:46Was that the guy who had like an illegal download or whatever?
- 50:49And because of it, they show up and he's like spirit of vengeance
- 50:54shows up while he's on Napster.
- 50:55And he's like, did you pay for that?
- 50:59I do want to say
- 51:01when the second fight with Kerrigan at the quarry,
- 51:05Kerrigan sees the penance there, seeing he's like, don't look at him.
- 51:08So the next time they meet up and like Nick Cage is holding him by the face,
- 51:11the actor plays Kerrigan is looking everywhere else,
- 51:13like is directly trying not to look into Ghost Rider's eyes.
- 51:16I thought that was a nice little touch. Yeah.
- 51:18I felt a little seen at the beginning, though, when it was like the
- 51:21it was like the voiceover exposition thing.
- 51:23And then the eyes like stare at you and break the fourth wall.
- 51:27I was like, oh, what did I do?
- 51:29The legal downloads, baby.
- 51:31Yeah. This isn't my quote, but I did write that down because I did like
- 51:34I did like that.
- 51:35Don't put this in, but I definitely was fired.
- 51:39Yeah, he's going to come for you now.
- 51:42And you don't want to be around when that happens.
- 51:44You see, there's good and bad in all of us.
- 51:46Maybe you're not a murderer.
- 51:48We've all done something.
- 51:49You don't want the writer to see a white lie and the legal download. What about you?
- 51:56I bet Lars Ulrich got them to put that line in there.
- 51:59Fucking Lars. Yeah, he's the worst.
- 52:01He's the worst Metallica.
- 52:05It's like Metallica, like a Voltron.
- 52:07Yeah, basically, I think I guess all bands are kind of like a Voltron.
- 52:12Variously important, important appendages. Yeah.
- 52:14Like, what was it? Def Leppard?
- 52:16They didn't need the one arm.
- 52:18Oh, man.
- 52:21First, a joke that a story joke.
- 52:23I have a joke and a story, actually.
- 52:25So when I was in Def Leppard.
- 52:27So what I got to remember this right.
- 52:29What has nine arms and sucks?
- 52:33Def Leppard, because he's missing.
- 52:38So when I was living in Montana, I was I lived in Missoula
- 52:43and I was going to Billings for a Def Leppard show and I got pulled over.
- 52:47And because I was doing somewhere around like 95 or something on the freeway,
- 52:52which you think is fine because the speed limits like 80 in Montana.
- 52:56But I got pulled over for doing that.
- 52:59And it was just so weird to me because like towns and cities are so far apart
- 53:03there that I didn't get a ticket.
- 53:06He had a credit card reader and I paid $40.
- 53:09That was my fine.
- 53:10And then I left. No court appearances.
- 53:13It's just $40 fine. Keep going.
- 53:16Did you get a message? Mexico?
- 53:17Yeah, I got a receipt.
- 53:18That's pretty efficient, though. I kind of like that.
- 53:20Yeah. So what if you contest it, though?
- 53:23Then you would probably have to go in and pay the money.
- 53:26Yeah, that would be like a couple hour drive.
- 53:29Yeah. All right. Let's let's get our quotes in.
- 53:31OK, I've got a couple, so I'll just put some in here and there.
- 53:35We just do it off the dome. I'll sprinkle them in.
- 53:38No, I've got my own here.
- 53:40But we did this all off the dome, Peter.
- 53:42You have everything. No notes.
- 53:44No notes. One of my favorites is just at the end
- 53:49when the ghost rider knocks Kerrigan off the car and then they run him over.
- 53:53And then ghost rider just looks back and he's like, roadkill.
- 53:57Oh, yeah, that was the second line. Yeah.
- 54:02That was a good one.
- 54:03Mine is let me get something straight.
- 54:07The guy who kidnapped Danny and tried to kill you and blew me up
- 54:10chugs a bunch of pills with grenades.
- 54:13You two were like boyfriend and girlfriend.
- 54:17The follow up line to that was a no, I get it.
- 54:21You have the devil's baby mama.
- 54:23I like that one. That was my.
- 54:25So my my quote is when Johnny and what's the devil's baby mama's name?
- 54:34Persephone. I also was looking at this and I was just thinking like this.
- 54:37Nadia does not pass the Bechtel test.
- 54:40Now, she's the only there's like one other woman in the entire thing.
- 54:44And she's like a gas station attendant or something.
- 54:47We know more about the fact that she's Romani than.
- 54:53Well, OK, she plays up every poor stereotype of gypsies.
- 54:59True. In the world, like, you know, she is going like she robs a guy.
- 55:05Her and Danny like steal some guys wallet and like wedding ring
- 55:10when he tries to hit on her and they're always she's the worst.
- 55:14I hate her.
- 55:16But you never like her name's forgettable.
- 55:18But she's a gypsy.
- 55:21So which is not a good term to say. Correct.
- 55:24Kerrigan is kidnapped, Danny.
- 55:26This is after the first ghost writer scene, but before the quarry.
- 55:29And they're questioning a thug who knows Kerrigan and they've seen that.
- 55:32They've been texting.
- 55:33So Nick Cage, like puts the phone in the guy's mouth and goes,
- 55:38Kerrigan must have told you about that thing that killed the men last night.
- 55:41Huh? Yeah. That thing is inside of me.
- 55:44See, you're a bad man.
- 55:47And this thing, the writer, he feeds on bad men and he's hungry.
- 55:51He's hungry than he's been in years.
- 55:52That's why I'm shaking.
- 55:53Because right now, the only thing that's standing between you and the writer is me.
- 55:57And he's just he's scratching at the door,
- 56:01scratching at the door.
- 56:05And he'll tell me what I want to know.
- 56:08I'm going to let him out.
- 56:09And when he's done with you, there won't be anything left of you.
- 56:11Understand? Yeah.
- 56:13The scratching at the door line, that was the one time in this movie
- 56:16that I was like, come on, I still like it.
- 56:20I loved it.
- 56:21So bad. Yeah.
- 56:25So, yeah, I got a couple more that I'll just bang out real quick.
- 56:28But seeing I can't remember what led up to it, but he's just writhing on the floor.
- 56:33He just says, Merry Christmas, you assholes.
- 56:39They end the movie with
- 56:42a conversation like, is it over?
- 56:43It's like, I'm going to say, yes, hell, yes.
- 56:47Oh, fucking dumb. Come on.
- 56:50I thought it was perfect.
- 56:51Yeah, it is good.
- 56:52But my favorite quote or my favorite line, probably
- 56:56they're sitting like in a diner or something.
- 56:59And it's Nick Cage and Danny.
- 57:01And Nick goes to like brush the kids hair for some fucking reason.
- 57:05I don't know why, but he like reaches out and the kid
- 57:08like kind of pulls back and Cage is just like.
- 57:12It was a bee.
- 57:13I thought it was going to sting your face.
- 57:17It's like you're inside.
- 57:18There was no fucking bee. Why are you trying to touch children?
- 57:21Come on. The spirit of Vengeance is going to have some words with you.
- 57:25I just want to I do also just love the opening little thing.
- 57:29My name is Johnny Blaze.
- 57:31I used to ride a motorcycle for a living.
- 57:33I did a bare ass 360 triple backspin in front of 22,000 people.
- 57:38It's kind of funny. It's on YouTube. Check it out.
- 57:42They should have made that for YouTube.
- 57:43Everything about this film is amazing.
- 57:47It's pretty.
- 57:47I know, John, you don't like the like little
- 57:50illustrated illustrated like things.
- 57:52I mean, it's just again, I think that's a more of a budgetary thing
- 57:55than anything else.
- 57:56Everything about this movie, especially as a ghostwriter fan,
- 57:59just fucking hit for me.
- 58:00Well, and for me, so the big thing, like, again, as I mentioned,
- 58:02I hated the first one in this one.
- 58:04It felt like a comic book.
- 58:06It was light on, you know, a lot of things, but it didn't matter.
- 58:10Like I had enjoyment the entire time and that really made a difference for me.
- 58:14It feels like the most comic book Marvel movie that I've ever seen.
- 58:17I have one criticism, only one criticism of this movie.
- 58:21Only 90 minutes.
- 58:22Steve Buscemi was underused.
- 58:25Why was Nadia an accomplished sniper at the end?
- 58:30Why did she have a fucking sniper rifle?
- 58:32And why was she just nonchalantly picking off motherfuckers?
- 58:36The run of your people are very skilled.
- 58:39Where did she get it?
- 58:40Are you going to tell me she stole it?
- 58:42That's racist.
- 58:43Then she get it from Idris Elba.
- 58:45Then you have the whole arsenal.
- 58:46Yeah, probably in the basement. Yeah.
- 58:47With the wine. Oh, yeah.
- 58:49Oh, yeah. I'm usually like, I'm hating you less more.
- 58:51Oh, she like
- 58:53to good cage, good movie, bad kids, bad movie, good, bad, bad, good.
- 58:58A bad cage. Good movie.
- 59:01Interesting. Outstanding cage.
- 59:04Good movie. I love what he's allowed to be wacky.
- 59:07Yes, but are we?
- 59:10OK, we've never talked about actually what these bubbles in the diagram are.
- 59:14I don't think it matters.
- 59:15Is it a good performance?
- 59:17A good, good acting? Is it good?
- 59:20This movie is actually like kind of a bad movie.
- 59:22Yeah, it's a terrible movie, but it's a lot of fun.
- 59:24That's terrible.
- 59:26No, I mean, the acting is very over the top and wacky
- 59:28and it's not like a deep performance, but it's exactly what it's supposed to be.
- 59:32I feel and it was better than the Ghost Rider take from the first.
- 59:36Yes. And it's very entertaining.
- 59:38So, yeah, he's this is like probably the cagiest we've ever seen him
- 59:42where he's just allowed to go full on just himself in a Ghost Rider movie.
- 59:46Yeah, definitely that.
- 59:51I enjoyed him thoroughly.
- 59:53So in terms of just pure enjoyment, I'm going to say great cage.
- 59:56And what for the movie? Great movie. Great. Great.
- 59:59John, what do you think?
- 1:00:01Uh, I'm pretty close to Sean.
- 1:00:04I'd say, you know, great cage bad movie like this.
- 1:00:06His acting in this was simultaneously bonkers and also amazing.
- 1:00:12Yeah, it was exactly what I wanted out of Nick Cage.
- 1:00:14If this isn't like this is the best version of everything
- 1:00:17people make fun of Nick Cage for in terms of acting.
- 1:00:19Yes. And I mean, I agree.
- 1:00:22It's what I wanted from the movie.
- 1:00:24It's not a good performance.
- 1:00:26OK, no, you're right.
- 1:00:28It's not, but it's still fun.
- 1:00:29Yeah. And that's fine.
- 1:00:30I'm totally in on that bad performance, bad performance.
- 1:00:35Good result. Good result. OK, I like that.
- 1:00:38Yeah, bad performance, but in the Venn diagram, a bad movie or bad cage,
- 1:00:43good movie, you have Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance in the butthole. Yeah.
- 1:00:49You heard it here first. Right in the pocket.
- 1:00:50This is the butthole of Nick Cage movies and you're going to love it.
- 1:00:53You're going to eat it up. You millennials.
- 1:00:56So without John, what do you where would of these two?
- 1:01:00What would you again?
- 1:01:01Your opinion does not matter, but what would you put forward?
- 1:01:04This is actually really hard because like we were saying, Gone
- 1:01:06in 60 Seconds is actually like a pretty decent movie.
- 1:01:09It's just totally unremarkable, whereas Spirit of Vengeance is
- 1:01:15a bad movie that's inexplicably good.
- 1:01:18Like if it was a minute longer, it wouldn't be good anymore.
- 1:01:21It does. It does know when to stop. Yeah.
- 1:01:24I think you should send
- 1:01:28Spirit of Vengeance on the jobs.
- 1:01:31I'm inclined to agree.
- 1:01:32It's the more they're entertaining for different reasons.
- 1:01:36But this is like I love the spectacle of it so much more.
- 1:01:39And it's I had so much more fun watching it and rewatching it.
- 1:01:42It was simultaneously not as great as I built it up to be.
- 1:01:46Having only seen it in theaters.
- 1:01:48Oh, we didn't even talk about the flame thrower.
- 1:01:50He's done. Yeah.
- 1:01:51Like your favorite part of the movie is the flamethrower.
- 1:01:54P and you didn't even talk about it because there's so much other stuff
- 1:01:56to talk about in the cell.
- 1:01:58I mean, they show it twice. Yeah.
- 1:01:59They did get a lot of screen time.
- 1:02:02But I like I remember seeing this.
- 1:02:03I saw this movie in theaters when it came out and I loved it then.
- 1:02:07You went on it. Was this a date?
- 1:02:09No, I went to too fast, too furious on a date.
- 1:02:13I know we've been dating for a while, but I still walked out of the movie.
- 1:02:18This was before my love for the fast franchise.
- 1:02:21I mean, too fast, too furious was a tricky one.
- 1:02:24Yeah, that was a big, big shift.
- 1:02:25Yeah, I I hadn't seen the first one.
- 1:02:28I didn't even think about that.
- 1:02:29I saw this movie in like South San Francisco.
- 1:02:33I got out of the theater at like 11 o'clock to have a bunch of texts
- 1:02:37from Meredith who had locked themselves out of their house in Oakland,
- 1:02:40like lost their keys, was locked out of their house, locked out of their car.
- 1:02:43So I had to drive like 40 minutes to Oakland
- 1:02:46to help them break into their house.
- 1:02:49Good thing you had your hell car and my crime jacket.
- 1:02:51Speaking of the crime jacket and the ghostwriter crime jacket,
- 1:02:55one thing I picked up is when his head is on fire, the jacket boils.
- 1:02:58Yeah, the shoulders boil.
- 1:03:00I was like, that was cool.
- 1:03:01Yeah, the finish on that leather jacket is pretty fucked up.
- 1:03:04Yeah, because of all the other times.
- 1:03:05Anytime he's not ghostwritered out, it's just fine.
- 1:03:09I mean, the the leather is kind of peeling.
- 1:03:11Yeah, I want to say, you know, spirit of vengeance.
- 1:03:15I mean, in terms of a cage performance, it's the cagiest of performances.
- 1:03:20Well, it looks like we got 12 minutes to argue.
- 1:03:22So no, I'm kidding.
- 1:03:23I'm perfectly fine with spirit of vengeance.
- 1:03:25That I think that'll be a fine movie, a little misrepresented in the bracket.
- 1:03:30But it is still works.
- 1:03:33Yeah, it's just a weird action movie.
- 1:03:35So it works in both.
- 1:03:37But yeah, it's much weirder than I remembered it being.
- 1:03:41I just remember the straight action parts of it.
- 1:03:43Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:03:44So spirit of vengeance may move forward.
- 1:03:47Sweet. I feel good about that. Nice.
- 1:03:50I don't know if there's any real this week in cage, but I know spirit
- 1:03:53or sympathy for the devil comes down.
- 1:03:55You guys are going to go.
- 1:03:56It came out yesterday. Yeah.
- 1:03:58So well, yesterday being the day before we recorded.
- 1:04:02So came out on the 28th of July.
- 1:04:04There you go. That's the time that came out.
- 1:04:06So Nick and I are going to watch this at some point and record a little.
- 1:04:09Our thoughts on this week, we're going to do a Peterless record.
- 1:04:12Yeah. Yeah. Godspeed.
- 1:04:14He to me. Yeah.
- 1:04:15Drop a couple sound bites down for us and we'll just insert you somewhere.
- 1:04:19Oh, good. Yeah.
- 1:04:20I've been waiting to say, we'll just insert you somewhere for most of my life.
- 1:04:25Guys, focus. Yeah.
- 1:04:29So we'll just record you doing one of these.
- 1:04:32Perfect. Yeah, that's the best jerk off motion recorded ever.
- 1:04:35Just send us the raw audio of that time.
- 1:04:37You yelled at us when you're going to go straight.
- 1:04:39Oh, man. Yeah. We'll insert that in there.
- 1:04:43God, that was a bad episode.
- 1:04:44Yes. So we've got a.
- 1:04:45Sare for the devil is out now.
- 1:04:47Yep. We're starring Nicholas Cage and Joel Kinnaman.
- 1:04:51We will record something on that.
- 1:04:52Nick is dead by daylight. The LC, I think, finally came out.
- 1:04:55Yes, I've been seeing photos of that people playing online.
- 1:04:58So if you play dead by daylight, go play as Nicholas Cage
- 1:05:02and listen to all those weird Nicholas Cage lines.
- 1:05:04I listen to a bunch of them.
- 1:05:05Yeah. You sent us a clip from YouTube that was like 20 minutes of just the audio.
- 1:05:10Just his audio files.
- 1:05:11Being like, come on.
- 1:05:14Yeah. Are you kidding me?
- 1:05:17Which is probably good fodder for like clipping into other things.
- 1:05:21We should use that. Yeah.
- 1:05:22Well, take that Nicholas Cage.
- 1:05:24You're going to be on our podcast whether you like it or not.
- 1:05:28Oh, come on.
- 1:05:31And I don't know what else is going on in Nick's world.
- 1:05:36You're talking about you.
- 1:05:37Oh, maybe.
- 1:05:39That's the sequel to Bobby's World.
- 1:05:42Bobby's World. Bobby's World.
- 1:05:44God, I haven't thought about Bobby's World forever.
- 1:05:46That's the only time I ever think about Howie Mandel.
- 1:05:48Do you remember the Louie Anderson cartoon?
- 1:05:50Oh, yeah, that was great.
- 1:05:51That was pretty good. I love that.
- 1:05:52Yeah, I remember the episode where he went to camp, which is kind of like camp.
- 1:05:56Yeah, yeah. It's just all ages camp.
- 1:05:59The line from that show that always that's where you get diddled.
- 1:06:02This is like.
- 1:06:04Little brother just saying, told you I could eat a whole stick of butter.
- 1:06:07Oh, fun story. Well, not really a story, but fun fact.
- 1:06:10I used to eat butter straight as a little kid.
- 1:06:12My parents had to keep the butter off the counter.
- 1:06:14Oh, you went for soft butter.
- 1:06:16Yeah, it is like counter butter.
- 1:06:19You didn't have counter butter.
- 1:06:20Oh, no, I still counter butter. But if I was just eating a stick of butter,
- 1:06:23I think I might want like a refrigerated stick.
- 1:06:27I feel like it would grease my mouth too much if I went softened butter.
- 1:06:32Yeah, but I don't know. I'll have to try it.
- 1:06:33Salted or unsalted.
- 1:06:34I don't remember. I was like four.
- 1:06:36Mm hmm. I'm an unsalted butter guy. Me too.
- 1:06:39John, do you have anything you want to plug unsalted butter?
- 1:06:42Yeah, John Brand's unsalted butter.
- 1:06:44Good. Get it wherever you podcasts are sold.
- 1:06:48Perfect. Excellent.
- 1:06:49Thank you for being here.
- 1:06:51Thanks, John. This is a lot of fun.
- 1:06:52Yeah, so yeah, next up, we've got matchstick men and guarding tests.
- 1:06:58Yeah, so anyway, thank you for listening.
- 1:07:00Please rate, review, subscribe.
- 1:07:02If you'd like to throw any money at us, we are on Patreon at CageMatch.
- 1:07:05Or you can find us on the street.
- 1:07:06You could do that, too. Yeah.
- 1:07:08But ask first, because I don't want you giving money to some rando.
- 1:07:11Yeah, that's true.
- 1:07:12There's a lot of people that look like Nick. Yeah.
- 1:07:15But yeah, thank you to our Sparkle buddies, Josh, Sean, Josie, Rico,
- 1:07:18Matt and Adam and to our cage dancers, Ira, John and Freeman.
- 1:07:21Hey, that's nice, John. Yeah.
- 1:07:23I paid my way on here.
- 1:07:25That's the only way you get on this show.
- 1:07:27Do you want to talk about flaming piss again? Always.
- 1:07:31With my doctor, though.
- 1:07:34Bye bye.
- 1:07:35Bye bye.
- 1:07:48What was that? Was that a butt?
- 1:07:50That was my toe, my sweaty toe squeaking against the wood chair.
- 1:07:54Yeah, nice.
- 1:07:55See if I can do it again.
- 1:07:57No, no, it's a.
- 1:07:59Fortunately, we caught the audio, so I'll isolate that.
- 1:08:02The most entertaining strip clubs I've ever been to are the ones
- 1:08:06with the acrobatic strippers. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Fantastic.
- 1:08:09They start clicking their heels. That's obnoxious.
- 1:08:11Yeah. Roller skating strippers are pretty good.
- 1:08:13Oh, that's a new one.
- 1:08:15I would like to see some tap dancing strippers.
- 1:08:17OK, so what you're talking about is burlesque.
- 1:08:18Really? You would definitely see a tap dancing.
- 1:08:20Oh, yeah. I should go to Dante sometime down in Portland.
- 1:08:24They do. Well, I don't know if they're still doing it, but they used to have a thing
- 1:08:28on Sundays called Sinferno.
- 1:08:30And it was like a huge burlesque show had like go go dancers.
- 1:08:34There was a guy that would just show up with a snake like he'd have his boa constrictor
- 1:08:38and he just walked the audience.
- 1:08:40There was like close up magicians in the audience and burlesque dancing.
- 1:08:44It was fucking sick. That sounds awesome.
- 1:08:46There's like indoor fire pits.
- 1:08:48OK, I'm in. Yeah. Dante's was rad.
- 1:08:51What I want. But what I want is like the level of like a high school talent show,
- 1:08:55like people with bad talents.
- 1:08:57Just doing them topless. Oh, so you just want me to do the podcast topless?
- 1:09:02Yes. OK. So have you ever seen somebody like on their first nights or weeks?
- 1:09:08No. OK, so let me just start this off with culturally in Portland,
- 1:09:14strip clubs are not as weird for people to just go to as in some other cities.
- 1:09:21I remember being in Portland once and going into a restaurant, getting a burrito.
- 1:09:24And then I was like, I got to eat a burger.
- 1:09:26I'm getting a burrito. And then I was like, I got to use the bathroom.
- 1:09:28They're like, just go through there.
- 1:09:29And it was you walked through the strip club. Yeah.
- 1:09:31It was like, oh, OK.
- 1:09:33There's owned as strippers, erotic or exotic dancing.
- 1:09:37So it's not like a sex industry thing.
- 1:09:40It's a dance industry thing.
- 1:09:42I've been to some where, you know, they would have somebody out
- 1:09:45for their first week or whatever.
- 1:09:48And there was this one girl.
- 1:09:49This is the most memorable one.
- 1:09:51She comes out and like very uneasy on her, like eight inch heels
- 1:09:57and kind of like gets up there.
- 1:09:59She does her piece, which is mostly just holding on to the bar for support
- 1:10:05while she kind of like wiggles and rides in a circle around it.
- 1:10:09Never like did any pole work.
- 1:10:11Never did any.
- 1:10:12Like she did a little bit of ground stuff, but she wasn't real good at that either.
- 1:10:16People had left some money up there,
- 1:10:18but she couldn't like bend over to pick it up in her heels.
- 1:10:22She wasn't good enough.
- 1:10:22So she had to like kind of tiptoe off the stage and get out like holding her clothes.
- 1:10:28And another stripper came up and picked up all the money for her and brought it back.
- 1:10:32And it was just the saddest thing I've ever seen.
- 1:10:35And I'll never forget or ever stop talking about the time I saw a lady's first strip.
- 1:10:43How do you know it was her first, though?
- 1:10:45Yeah, maybe she did. They say that.
- 1:10:47Yeah, they did not say it, but I'm going to hope that it was her first
- 1:10:50because if it was like second or third and she couldn't even figure out
- 1:10:53how to lay on the ground and shake her butt.
- 1:10:56You need a clip, shake her butt and just drop that in occasionally.
