- 0:35Speaker 2: I know nothing about yet. So Tony, can you read
- 0:38Speaker 2: us the email and we'll get straight into it.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I am bursting at the seams. This is Are you
- 0:43Speaker 1: actually well? You've been talking about it literally.
- 0:46Speaker 3: All day and now I feel like you've worked it up,
- 0:48Speaker 3: so it better be good. Oh no, no.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Price, I actually never back anything in. I'm backing this in. Okay,
- 0:55Speaker 1: that's amazing, baceraream.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Let's go real.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Hi, She's on the Money. Gang Gang.
- 1:01Speaker 3: We are a gang.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I saw your instapost about wanting to chat with someone
- 1:05Speaker 1: earning a high salary without a university degree, and that's me. Yes,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm twenty seven from Tazzi and oh, thank my.
- 1:14Speaker 3: God, Rosta, we're probably a cousin.
- 1:17Speaker 1: And started working full time three weeks after starting year eleven.
- 1:21Speaker 1: When I was sixteen. My parents have always owned their
- 1:24Speaker 1: own businesses and were always fighting about money. They had
- 1:27Speaker 1: a pretty toxic relationship, and my siblings and I had
- 1:30Speaker 1: a traumatic upbringing. At eighteen, I started working in a
- 1:33Speaker 1: sales call center with potential to earn uncapped commissions. I
- 1:37Speaker 1: worked really hard to earn eighty five K consistently for
- 1:41Speaker 1: all the years that I worked in the role.
- 1:43Speaker 3: That is so much money.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Allowing me to buy my first home at twenty twenty
- 1:49Speaker 1: twenty Chappy.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Zero, having not finished year eleven and twelve.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And escaped from my parents, but also for my siblings
- 1:56Speaker 1: to escape too.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I love that. I'm so proud of That's really special.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I transferred to HR and began my career in recruitment,
- 2:03Speaker 1: and moving from a call center to a corporate world
- 2:06Speaker 1: was a big adjustment for me. The majority of the
- 2:08Speaker 1: people I am now working with all have been to
- 2:10Speaker 1: Union have degrees.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I've struggled that UNI people.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I've struggled with imposter syndrome quite a bit, often feeling
- 2:17Speaker 1: like I'm not smart enough or even proven. I deserve
- 2:20Speaker 1: a seat at the table.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Oh no, you deserve a seat. And if you don't
- 2:23Speaker 2: think that, there's a seat for you at the table.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Go get a chair and just drag it up. I've
- 2:27Speaker 2: just like scratch it along the hardwood floors so everybody
- 2:31Speaker 2: notices you on the way.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Luckily for me, I have an incredibly supportive manager who
- 2:35Speaker 1: believes in me, and she reminds me that a piece
- 2:37Speaker 1: of paper doesn't prove my worth or value.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Absolutely it does not.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Fast forward three years and I'm absolutely loving my career choices.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Between my partner and I. We currently have two houses
- 2:47Speaker 1: and a block of land. Oh, oh my gosh. We
- 2:50Speaker 1: are saving to build our next house and getting married
- 2:52Speaker 1: in feb twenty twenty two.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, so sweet. I'm gonna ask her about
- 2:56Speaker 3: a ring.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Not bad for a kid from a rural town that
- 2:59Speaker 1: only finished grade ten.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I love that for her. Let's get her on the phone, Tony,
- 3:04Speaker 2: do you want to give her a buzz?
- 3:06Speaker 1: Hello, money Diarist?
- 3:08Speaker 3: Are you ready to talk about your money diary?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Yes?
- 3:11Speaker 3: I am.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Thank you so much for having me so exciting.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, you've only finished year ten. I cannot
- 3:17Speaker 2: wait to have a chat with you. But in traditional
- 3:19Speaker 2: she's on the money form. We're going to go through
- 3:21Speaker 2: our structured questions and then we'll get to lots of
- 3:24Speaker 2: questions at the back end of the interview. Are you ready, yes,
- 3:28Speaker 2: bring it on, awesome. Could you explain to us what
- 3:31Speaker 2: your attitude to money is.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Sorry, I've had a think about this and I think
- 3:37Speaker 4: it's see a bit of an evolution. So, as I said,
- 3:39Speaker 4: my parents are always own their ownsiness. They were arguing
- 3:42Speaker 4: all the time, and that was mostly about money. They
- 3:45Speaker 4: didn't really teach my siblings and I very good money
- 3:49Speaker 4: habits or the value of money. All I knew was
- 3:52Speaker 4: I didn't want to be like them, but I just
- 3:54Speaker 4: didn't know how. So when I bought my house and
- 3:57Speaker 4: moved out of Holland, it was a battup adjustment to
- 4:00Speaker 4: learn how to save and budget for myself, and I
- 4:02Speaker 4: quickly realized it's not something that you automatically good at.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So I just learned from books and friends and podcasts
- 4:11Speaker 4: and trial and error. But today I'm feeling really confident
- 4:15Speaker 4: with my approach to money. I've got a color coded
- 4:18Speaker 4: spreadsheets because that's got my budget on it. I've clearly
- 4:21Speaker 4: defined bank accounts all my savings, So I feel like
- 4:24Speaker 4: I'm in a really good place with my attitude towards money.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I feel like you are too. That's so exciting. All right,
- 4:31Speaker 3: what do you do for work and how much money
- 4:33Speaker 3: do you earn?
- 4:35Speaker 4: So I work in recruitment and I currently earn just
- 4:38Speaker 4: over ninety thousand dollars a year plus tou so what
- 4:41Speaker 4: comes into my bank account every fortnight is just over
- 4:44Speaker 4: two six hundred dollars.
- 4:45Speaker 3: That is epic.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Without it's not bad. What do you mean not bad?
- 4:51Speaker 1: That's great.
- 4:52Speaker 3: That is such good money.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And the fact that you're saving and investing, like, oh,
- 4:57Speaker 2: I'm so excited about this money diary. All right, So
- 5:00Speaker 2: you obviously have some property already, but what is currently
- 5:03Speaker 2: your big money goal.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Yeah, So, like I said in the email, we're getting
- 5:08Speaker 4: married in February, so we've got kind of a short
- 5:11Speaker 4: term money goal of saving for that. I don't want
- 5:14Speaker 4: to put any of that on credit cards or any loans.
- 5:16Speaker 4: You want to pay start in cash, and then long term,
- 5:20Speaker 4: we're saving to build a house on the block that
- 5:22Speaker 4: we bought earlier this year, so that's probably three to
- 5:25Speaker 4: five years in the future, but we want to be
- 5:26Speaker 4: able to pay for most of that with cash as well.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's so amazing.
- 5:31Speaker 3: That is so exciting.
- 5:33Speaker 2: So we know you have some property, but do you
- 5:35Speaker 2: have any investments?
- 5:38Speaker 4: Yeah, so I've got the property. So that's only been
- 5:40Speaker 4: a rental for about eight months, and maybe about eighteen
- 5:44Speaker 4: months ago I started investing into spaceship. Just a little
- 5:47Speaker 4: bit of money every week. Really came to a little
- 5:50Speaker 4: bit more. But as you say, if you're not ready
- 5:54Speaker 4: to invest long term, you shouldn't be putting the money
- 5:57Speaker 4: in for a couple of years. So I'm holding out
- 6:00Speaker 4: and build a house.
- 6:01Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, woman after my own heart.
- 6:04Speaker 1: She's really gone through the Victoria Divine School of Finance,
- 6:07Speaker 1: that's for sure.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I would not be there if that existed.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Can you imagine if there was a thing called the
- 6:13Speaker 2: Victoria Divine School of Finance?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Should that be our next project?
- 6:16Speaker 4: Oh?
- 6:16Speaker 1: I'm here for We're doing it.
- 6:17Speaker 3: I'm doing it.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I'm there.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Is that too egotistical?
- 6:20Speaker 1: Oh?
- 6:20Speaker 3: Do you know what?
- 6:21Speaker 2: I don't even mind now, as long as people are
- 6:23Speaker 2: saying stuff like this like I'm saving it, I'm investing
- 6:25Speaker 2: and I've got a plan, like, I don't care.
- 6:27Speaker 3: How they learn. All right, all right, do you currently
- 6:29Speaker 3: have any debts?
- 6:32Speaker 4: So yes, we have the three mortgages, between my partner
- 6:34Speaker 4: and I. So it's the sum of debt that lear
- 6:38Speaker 4: is a large amount. It's a bit scary, but we've
- 6:41Speaker 4: got a really good future plant We've both got really
- 6:44Speaker 4: good paying jobs, and we have a really good financial
- 6:47Speaker 4: planner which we both trust and awesome with our situation.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, so you've got a financial advisor.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Yes, yes, we do.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Awesome, Awesome, And how do you think that that has
- 7:00Speaker 2: helped your journey?
- 7:03Speaker 4: It's just go close to clarity, Like it's so great
- 7:05Speaker 4: listening to your podcast, and I do my own research,
- 7:07Speaker 4: but I'm not an expert either, So we can reach
- 7:11Speaker 4: out to him and me with him, and he can
- 7:13Speaker 4: answer all of our questions, look at our situation and
- 7:16Speaker 4: give us the best advice to set us up to
- 7:18Speaker 4: the future. Yes, And the best thing about him is
- 7:20Speaker 4: he's just so like he doesn't speak finance jargon either,
- 7:25Speaker 4: Like he really makes it relatable, so we fully understand
- 7:28Speaker 4: what we're getting ourselves into. And he's been there, like
- 7:32Speaker 4: I've been working with him for a while now, so
- 7:33Speaker 4: he knows my full situation. Yeah, we'll continue to work
- 7:38Speaker 4: with him.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Maybe you'll have to introduce me to this guy friend.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Maybe next time tas maybea we can do a little.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Don't put it past me. I love Tazzie.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Obviously I grew up there and I get back at
- 7:52Speaker 2: every possible opportunity. So what is currently your best money habit?
- 7:58Speaker 4: So I always say my best money habit is like
- 8:02Speaker 4: the way that I budget and filter my money. It's
- 8:04Speaker 4: a little bit extra. But I have three different banks
- 8:08Speaker 4: that kind of have different accounts sism. So one bank
- 8:11Speaker 4: is mortgages and that's where we say using an offset
- 8:15Speaker 4: account for our house. Then I've got another bank, which
- 8:19Speaker 4: is all my important money and so that's where I've
- 8:24Speaker 4: got my emergency account, my weekly expenses like groceries, petrol,
- 8:29Speaker 4: that kind of thing. All my money for my fields
- 8:32Speaker 4: go into that bank. And then I use up banks
- 8:35Speaker 4: for all my fun spending, so my weekly allowance and
- 8:38Speaker 4: my splurge account, and that's where we're saving for the
- 8:40Speaker 4: wedding as well.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Oh my god, it doesn't sound like you need a
- 8:42Speaker 1: financial advisor. It sounds like you could be my financial.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Gosh, I guess. And in on the flip side of that,
- 8:52Speaker 3: what is your worst money have it?
- 8:55Speaker 4: So, as most trees on the money listeners, I love food,
- 9:00Speaker 4: so I do tend to not.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Just also the host, also the people that work here.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Also the people that work here. We also love snacks.
- 9:07Speaker 4: But if I had to say anything else, it would
- 9:09Speaker 4: be I try to make lists of things that I
- 9:11Speaker 4: want to buy, so I don't kind of go out
- 9:13Speaker 4: and buy them willy nilly. But when I start buying one,
- 9:16Speaker 4: I want to buy them all. So then I end
- 9:18Speaker 4: up doing that and I completely drain my kind of
- 9:20Speaker 4: words accounts. So then it takes a few weeks to
- 9:22Speaker 4: build the seedings back up there. But I tend to
- 9:24Speaker 4: just keep on repeating that cycle.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And if I forced you to give yourself a grade,
- 9:28Speaker 2: what money grade would you give yourself?
- 9:31Speaker 4: I am going to give myself an A.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yes, it's been.
- 9:35Speaker 1: A while, get back yourself.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yes, I love that. I love that.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I feel like it's been a really long time since
- 9:41Speaker 2: the money direst has genuinely been like, no, I'm an A.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I love this.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Whether they deserve it or not, you definitely deserve an A.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And they're like, oh no, I'm a B minus.
- 9:52Speaker 3: I'm not having it anyway.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I've got so many questions for you, and we'll get
- 9:56Speaker 2: back to them in just a moment. All right, Money Diarist,
- 10:03Speaker 2: Thank you so much for sharing those with us. I
- 10:06Speaker 2: actually have so many questions for you. But my first
- 10:10Speaker 2: question is how Look, I know that that's probably a
- 10:14Speaker 2: little bit frank, but you know, having not finished year
- 10:17Speaker 2: twelve and just finished at year ten and then gone
- 10:21Speaker 2: on to have this really great salary, The question isn't
- 10:24Speaker 2: how did you do that? It's how you now so
- 10:27Speaker 2: good at money management? Like where did you learn that
- 10:30Speaker 2: you needed all of your bank accounts and you wanted
- 10:33Speaker 2: to buy a house and you know what that meant
- 10:35Speaker 2: to then you know, buy a block of land as
- 10:37Speaker 2: well and transform that into an investment property, Like how
- 10:40Speaker 2: have you done that at such a young age, having
- 10:43Speaker 2: come from a background that didn't teach you that.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's just a lot of pent error,
- 10:49Speaker 4: and you know, looking into though from the looks of it,
- 10:54Speaker 4: there there's definitely been times where you know, I have
- 10:57Speaker 4: so I would take pay to paycheck, but I've had
- 10:59Speaker 4: very real money in life account. But I think it's
- 11:02Speaker 4: just I kind of knew exactly what I wouldn't what
- 11:05Speaker 4: I didn't want to be like, and so I used
- 11:08Speaker 4: everything in my power to be the opposite to that. So, yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 4: it was just when I first had the opportunity to
- 11:12Speaker 4: be able to earn a lot of money and I
- 11:14Speaker 4: realized how much money that was, I was like, yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 4: first thing I'm going to do is by house and
- 11:20Speaker 4: get into the market. And I did that, you know,
- 11:22Speaker 4: a little while ago now so that my house has
- 11:25Speaker 4: gone up in so much value, which is amazing. And
- 11:28Speaker 4: then from there it was it was a good couple
- 11:31Speaker 4: of years, probably a few years until I felt like
- 11:34Speaker 4: I was kind of confident in how I set up
- 11:38Speaker 4: my money and keep my budget and that kind of thing.
- 11:41Speaker 4: So yeah, just knowing what I wanted to be and
- 11:44Speaker 4: just working really hard to try and get there.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I love that.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It makes me so excited that you're just so well
- 11:49Speaker 2: set up having started from you know, I don't want
- 11:52Speaker 2: to say a disadvantage start, but from a start that
- 11:54Speaker 2: you know, didn't teach you the finance skills that I
- 11:57Speaker 2: believe everyone deserves.
- 11:58Speaker 1: It's also really powerful that you came from such a well,
- 12:01Speaker 1: I mean, like you said in your email, quite a
- 12:04Speaker 1: hard environment to grow up in. It's really powerful that
- 12:06Speaker 1: you kind of took away from that and went, Okay,
- 12:08Speaker 1: that's what not to do when I you know, it
- 12:11Speaker 1: comes to controlling my finances. And obviously you and your
- 12:14Speaker 1: partner are super open about your finances. You've both got
- 12:17Speaker 1: you know, houses together and separately and things like that.
- 12:21Speaker 1: What does what does he do for a job? If
- 12:23Speaker 1: you don't mind me, Mouski, I'm pervy.
- 12:26Speaker 4: He is an electrician by trade, but he specialized. He's
- 12:29Speaker 4: still with elevators.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Oh my god, do you live in Tasmania. Yes, we do,
- 12:35Speaker 3: so they have elevators in Tasmania.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I've got everything now, yeah, but they don't have uber eats.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Oh what Oh, she's probably from Hobart breaking news. You
- 12:47Speaker 2: from Hobart y. Yeah, I've been non test and we
- 12:50Speaker 2: don't have ub eats.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Too many questions, too personal?
- 12:54Speaker 2: Sorry, sorry, sorry, all right, So we're just like breaking
- 12:56Speaker 2: down your exact location. But do you know what, Hope
- 13:00Speaker 2: it's expensive now knowing if she's living down there, Hopeart's
- 13:03Speaker 2: genuinely expensive to break into the property market there, great
- 13:06Speaker 2: rental yield two, which our money.
- 13:09Speaker 3: Direst probably is very aware of. Yes, she's like, yes, Victoria,
- 13:14Speaker 3: I know.
- 13:15Speaker 2: So while we're on the topic of your partner and
- 13:17Speaker 2: to be a little bit pervy, because we do love
- 13:19Speaker 2: a good pervy money day here. Yeah, like you said,
- 13:22Speaker 2: you were getting married in twenty twenty two, which is
- 13:25Speaker 2: very exciting and actually creeping up.
- 13:26Speaker 3: It's less than a year away. Now, how did you
- 13:29Speaker 3: guys go about getting engaged? What happened with your ring?
- 13:35Speaker 2: Having with all of that, because obviously, like you seem
- 13:38Speaker 2: to have your head screwed on.
- 13:39Speaker 3: What was that process?
- 13:40Speaker 4: Like it was a surprise?
- 13:44Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 13:45Speaker 3: Sorry you tell us?
- 13:46Speaker 1: Tell us, Oh, yeah, what happened? We're both sitting on
- 13:48Speaker 1: the edge of our seats here.
- 13:50Speaker 4: So we had a plan to Europe which had to
- 13:53Speaker 4: get canceled because of COVID. It was going to be
- 13:55Speaker 4: my birthday while we were over there, so that was
- 13:58Speaker 4: his original plan.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, imagic.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Unfortunately, I know, but I like his stack up plan
- 14:05Speaker 4: even better. So we went down to a place where
- 14:08Speaker 4: I grew up and we went on this really beautiful hike.
- 14:11Speaker 4: It was like a twenty k hike or something particulous.
- 14:15Speaker 1: And the day he make you do that before giving
- 14:17Speaker 1: you that ring, I can't believe it work it?
- 14:21Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely so yeah, Well we got to the end.
- 14:24Speaker 4: He yeah, I got down on one knee and proposed
- 14:26Speaker 4: in the back you've been carrying around champagne.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Oh so sweet.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So it was a surprise and he saved for the
- 14:36Speaker 2: ring and you had literally no idea.
- 14:38Speaker 4: Yes, I had no idea. So he told me he'd
- 14:40Speaker 4: had it for quite a few months and kept it
- 14:42Speaker 4: in the ceiling of the house. I would never look
- 14:48Speaker 4: and he designed.
- 14:49Speaker 3: What would you be doing in it?
- 14:50Speaker 4: Oh?
- 14:51Speaker 3: He designed it himself.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. Can you imagine.
- 14:57Speaker 1: That's such a lovely story.
- 14:58Speaker 2: I just wanted to be really, I was like, she's
- 15:00Speaker 2: getting married, she would have had a reposal, let's ask,
- 15:03Speaker 2: because I'm only sorry studying that journey and just you know,
- 15:06Speaker 2: have you did you guys have conversations about marriage and
- 15:09Speaker 2: what that looked like and you know the financial.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Aspects of that.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely. I think we were both so our relationship
- 15:18Speaker 4: started really slow for the first six months because I
- 15:21Speaker 4: think we really wanted to get to know each other properly,
- 15:23Speaker 4: and I think that both of us it was really
- 15:25Speaker 4: important that our partner was in a good financial situation
- 15:29Speaker 4: as well, which we both came into it like that
- 15:32Speaker 4: and looked about the future and that kind of thing.
- 15:34Speaker 4: We did speak about engagement rings then, Like I said,
- 15:37Speaker 4: I didn't really want to be a part of the process.
- 15:39Speaker 4: But it was important to me that he didn't go
- 15:41Speaker 4: out and splurge or something that was ridiculously experence you,
- 15:43Speaker 4: because we have big goals that we wanted. As much
- 15:46Speaker 4: as I would love a big, flushy ring in it
- 15:49Speaker 4: is I think big and flushy enough for me anyway,
- 15:52Speaker 4: that's not I suppose what we value.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's nice to ask these questions too, because
- 15:59Speaker 3: it's not often and it you know, if your friend
- 16:01Speaker 3: gets engaged, you don't go how much was your ring?
- 16:03Speaker 3: Did you guys talk about the money values you had
- 16:05Speaker 3: together before you got engaged? Like that's why I really
- 16:08Speaker 3: like this podcast and the I guess anonymity that you
- 16:11Speaker 3: have so I can ask that and we can listen
- 16:13Speaker 3: is if we're friends.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And most people would be quite offended if you like,
- 16:16Speaker 1: if someone went on I'm engaging, how much was your ring?
- 16:19Speaker 1: And did you talk about it before?
- 16:21Speaker 3: And oh my gosh, how offensive? Like I don't know,
- 16:23Speaker 3: it's not coming from a malicious place. You are a
- 16:26Speaker 3: bit pervy, but you never get to ask those questions
- 16:28Speaker 3: in real life, So let's ask them me here, And
- 16:30Speaker 3: how's wedding planning going? What's the budget for that?
- 16:33Speaker 4: Look like, sorry, oh my gosh.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I know.
- 16:40Speaker 4: So initially we had a figure in mind, and then tell.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Us the figure.
- 16:47Speaker 3: I agree, mind, this is the one.
- 16:50Speaker 2: You don't just go, oh, we'll thinking about a number,
- 16:53Speaker 2: my love, what was that number?
- 16:55Speaker 4: So the figure was twenty thousand?
- 16:58Speaker 3: Yeah three good budge, that's big.
- 17:00Speaker 1: That's substantial for sure. Yeah.
- 17:03Speaker 4: But then and we had a really clear picture of
- 17:06Speaker 4: what we wanted for the wedding as well, so that
- 17:07Speaker 4: made it really easy. I went away and contacted like
- 17:10Speaker 4: fully bo different venues and vendors and spoke with them
- 17:14Speaker 4: and got prices. So when I added it up, and
- 17:16Speaker 4: I mean, we're not doing anything super extra, like the
- 17:19Speaker 4: wedding is just going to be super late back and
- 17:21Speaker 4: kind of pickic festivally start two trucks, Tony and I.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Well, we'll send you our address, you can send the invite,
- 17:30Speaker 2: ride on over.
- 17:31Speaker 1: We don't need plass ones. We'll just go together.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll actually just go together, So don't worry about
- 17:34Speaker 2: a class one for us.
- 17:36Speaker 3: I would love that.
- 17:40Speaker 4: But yeah, it adds up really quickly. So that quickly
- 17:43Speaker 4: went over that twenty K limit. And when I sat
- 17:46Speaker 4: down with my partner. We went through everything line by
- 17:48Speaker 4: line and we thought what we were wanting to pay
- 17:51Speaker 4: for everything was really justifiable. But you know, when you're
- 17:54Speaker 4: added all up, it went over that. So it's probably
- 17:57Speaker 4: going to be around twenty five thousand dollars.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Now, that's still under the average of thirty four thousand
- 18:03Speaker 2: dollars for a wedding here in Australia.
- 18:05Speaker 3: So I don't think it's that bad.
- 18:07Speaker 4: No, I think it's pretty good. And like I said,
- 18:09Speaker 4: we want to pay all of it in cash. We
- 18:11Speaker 4: don't want to put anything on credit or anything like that.
- 18:14Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm happy with that.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Biggup, you're like a dream, Like what everybody listening's like,
- 18:19Speaker 2: she's making this up.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I bet you it sounds like it's me with a
- 18:22Speaker 1: voice to coder on like, it doesn't sound like.
- 18:24Speaker 2: It's actually genuinely so so impressive.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Are you proud of yourself? Yeah?
- 18:31Speaker 4: I think I think I am. I do often kind
- 18:35Speaker 4: of struggle with a bit of imposter syndrome sometimes, but when,
- 18:39Speaker 4: especially when you read that email back to you, I
- 18:40Speaker 4: was like.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Cool, she's cool a person, and like you said in
- 18:46Speaker 1: the email, you know, oh I've got a I've got mentors.
- 18:48Speaker 1: That tell me a piece of paper doesn't mean anything.
- 18:50Speaker 1: And I will tell you firsthand this is my experience.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I've got the piece of paper, and I still struggle
- 18:57Speaker 1: with imposter syndrome every single day. I don't.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, me too.
- 19:02Speaker 1: You know, it's not only that it doesn't make a
- 19:04Speaker 1: differences in like, if you're good at the job, you're
- 19:06Speaker 1: going to get it, but it doesn't make you feel
- 19:08Speaker 1: more confident, and especially as a female, often females that
- 19:12Speaker 1: you see larger numbers of imposter syndrome and people experiencing
- 19:16Speaker 1: those feelings, and every day for me, at least once
- 19:19Speaker 1: a day that there's a second of me going, oh,
- 19:22Speaker 1: I'm so lucky to be here, when no, I've actually
- 19:24Speaker 1: worked really hard. So you should be really proud of
- 19:26Speaker 1: yourself because your background and what you've been able to
- 19:29Speaker 1: achieve is just is so impressive.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Like, oh, it is so impressive, and I think you
- 19:35Speaker 2: touched on something that's really important here as well, Tony.
- 19:38Speaker 3: It's not luck, No, you worked really hard.
- 19:40Speaker 2: For this, and imposter syndrome is something that I suffer
- 19:44Speaker 2: from me I'm always like oh, thanks, and I guess
- 19:48Speaker 2: it's why I can't really get behind my cellphone again.
- 19:51Speaker 2: You know, obviously we know that I have a few
- 19:54Speaker 2: awards and stuff like that, but when it happens, I'm
- 19:56Speaker 2: so bad at celebrating those things with my team, with
- 20:00Speaker 2: my family, with my friends, because I'm always like, oh, yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 2: I got this, and then in the back of my head,
- 20:05Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, but they made a mistake, like they
- 20:07Speaker 2: didn't they didn't mean it. Almost recently, I got an
- 20:09Speaker 2: award and I was like, oh, yeah, like it's really cool,
- 20:11Speaker 2: but I don't know why I got it, Like I
- 20:13Speaker 2: don't get it at all, And I really need to
- 20:14Speaker 2: pull my own head in because it's cool and we
- 20:17Speaker 2: really should back ourselves and we really should have this
- 20:20Speaker 2: idea of ourselves that is true and correct. Like I'm
- 20:23Speaker 2: so impressed with your story and it has nothing to
- 20:26Speaker 2: do with luck and you're absolutely not an imposter. Like
- 20:29Speaker 2: it breaks my heart a little bit that I know
- 20:31Speaker 2: so many people in our community. So I thought with this,
- 20:34Speaker 2: and you know, it's probably something I want to have
- 20:36Speaker 2: a deeper conversation about because it is deep and it
- 20:39Speaker 2: is meaningful, and it is impactful if we can start
- 20:42Speaker 2: backing ourselves in a better way.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I completely agree, because it's so important to be
- 20:47Speaker 1: able to not be cocky and not be not be
- 20:50Speaker 1: rude about it, but just to be proud ourselves and
- 20:52Speaker 1: back ourselves in. It's so powerful. And if a friend
- 20:55Speaker 1: told you that they wont an award, how excited would
- 20:57Speaker 1: you be for them? Yeah? Exactly, And we should be
- 21:00Speaker 1: doing that to ourselves.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Exactly, and so should you, my friend. I feel like
- 21:03Speaker 2: you are so impressive. But what is You know a
- 21:08Speaker 2: lot of people listening to this are going to have
- 21:11Speaker 2: listened and been like, oh wow, I didn't grow up
- 21:13Speaker 2: with that situation, and you know I'm not in a
- 21:15Speaker 2: better situation now because of it. Like, what is the
- 21:18Speaker 2: first step that you really took that helped you get
- 21:21Speaker 2: on the right path to being able to be what
- 21:23Speaker 2: I would deem to be relatively financially secure for your age.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Oh that's a really good question.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Oh thank you. I thought of it myself.
- 21:34Speaker 4: What would say?
- 21:36Speaker 3: I think?
- 21:37Speaker 4: Well, I didn't necessarily have the best role model currently,
- 21:43Speaker 4: and like, I love both as my parents they were
- 21:45Speaker 4: they did the best that they could use what they had.
- 21:48Speaker 4: I sposed the time, but there were other people in
- 21:50Speaker 4: my life that I could too and be like yep,
- 21:52Speaker 4: I want to be more like them, and just because you,
- 21:56Speaker 4: you know, might not have the best, you don't have
- 22:01Speaker 4: to follow that path. You know, you can make a
- 22:04Speaker 4: conscious decision about where you want your life to go,
- 22:07Speaker 4: and there will be people out there that will support
- 22:08Speaker 4: you and that will believe in you and will if
- 22:10Speaker 4: there's time in you to be able to do that.
- 22:12Speaker 4: And I've been really lucky, you know, in my personal
- 22:15Speaker 4: life and throughout my career, I've had amazing managers that
- 22:18Speaker 4: have invested all the time and efforts into me because
- 22:22Speaker 4: they could see how hard I would work and how
- 22:26Speaker 4: much I really wanted to do my best at everything
- 22:28Speaker 4: that I did.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Oh, you're going to make Tony cry.
- 22:31Speaker 2: She's across the room with her hand on her chairs,
- 22:33Speaker 2: being like, oh my gosh, I just.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Want you to ring me every morning and be like
- 22:37Speaker 1: you can do it, babe, that we can.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Do more morning group PEP talks. I like it. We
- 22:44Speaker 3: can jump in here and be like, all right, so
- 22:46Speaker 3: hype this up. Here we go, here we go. But
- 22:49Speaker 3: I love this.
- 22:50Speaker 2: I absolutely love this, and I think it is really powerful,
- 22:53Speaker 2: especially when it comes to financial literacy.
- 22:55Speaker 3: And I'm very very grateful that you, you know, are sharing
- 22:59Speaker 3: this story with us.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And knowing that you're from Tasmania and knowing you know
- 23:04Speaker 2: that's obviously very close to my heart because I grew
- 23:06Speaker 2: up there. But then also knowing you didn't finish year
- 23:09Speaker 2: ten or you did finish year ten, you didn't do
- 23:11Speaker 2: secondary what do you call it VCE that's in Victoria.
- 23:16Speaker 3: College.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so you didn't do college and then you've made
- 23:20Speaker 2: it in an area that usually requires a degree. I'm
- 23:23Speaker 2: just so genuinely proud of you and proud that you're
- 23:26Speaker 2: a part of our community and that you get to
- 23:29Speaker 2: be one of the role models for the people listening
- 23:31Speaker 2: to our show. Like it's just so special that these
- 23:33Speaker 2: stories get to be out there now. And I want
- 23:36Speaker 2: to just say thanks for joining us, and thanks for
- 23:39Speaker 2: you know, sharing your story because it genuinely is really
- 23:41Speaker 2: special to us.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Well, thank you so much for having me. I'm glad
- 23:45Speaker 4: that I got the opportunity to do this and hopefully
- 23:47Speaker 4: inspire the people that you know might not have finished
- 23:52Speaker 4: for like I said, high school or college or gone university,
- 23:55Speaker 4: that there are still opportunities out there.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Oh, you absolutely have. You absolutely have an I think
- 24:00Speaker 3: for sure. It's so important. So thank you so much
- 24:03Speaker 3: for joining us today.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Okay, So just before we head off, we'd like to

- 25:43Speaker 1: you're definitely friends.
- 25:44Speaker 3: We have a hundred thousand friends.
