Transcript
- 0:00Moms, before you blame your schedule for how overwhelmed you feel this week, consider this.
- 0:07It might be something that you're carrying that's weighing you down. We are going to unpack that
- 0:15in this episode. If you're tired of people pleasing, caring too much, and wondering why
- 0:22peace still feels so hard to hold on to, you're in the right place. Hi, I'm Lori, Mom, former
- 0:28people pleaser, and your boundaries coach. Here we talk about how to protect your peace,
- 0:34set healthier boundaries, and get clear on what actually matters so that you can build a life
- 0:40that feels lighter, calmer, and more satisfying. So let's stop the chaos for a minute, Moms,
- 0:46catch our breath, and get into this next episode.
- 0:49Welcome back to Healthy Boundaries for Moms. This is your midweek reset,
- 1:01and I am so glad that you're here. So Moms, I want you to take a breath,
- 1:08pause just for a second, and let's get into this episode. Now, if you're feeling tired,
- 1:17overwhelmed, like everything is on your shoulders, you might not have too much to do or on your
- 1:25schedule. You might just be carrying too much, and not all of it is yours. So when I say that,
- 1:34I want you to picture it like a backpack that you're wearing. Everything you're holding,
- 1:40everything you're feeling responsible for, everything that you are managing, it's all in
- 1:45there. So at the beginning, that backpack makes sense, right? It has your responsibilities,
- 1:52your roles, things that are yours to carry. But over time, what do we do? We open the backpack,
- 1:59we start adding things to it, right? We're adding our child's emotions, my spouse's responsibilities,
- 2:07problems that aren't yours to solve, things that you fell into quickly. You said yes to
- 2:14before you even knew what you said yes to, right? And now it's not just full, it's literally weighing
- 2:21you down. So here's your reset for this week. We're going to do a quick audit of your backpack,
- 2:28and then we are going to actually unpack it and deal with each thing that's in it. So first,
- 2:36let's look at your backpack. What belongs to your kids? Like what are you doing right now
- 2:44that your child is actually capable of doing or learning to do? And for a lot of us, this shows
- 2:52up in our everyday things, like the chores, like doing their laundry, putting away their clothes,
- 2:59cleaning up things that they're capable of handling. And maybe this week it just looks like
- 3:04letting them put their own laundry away or helping them to unload or load the dishwasher.
- 3:11How about wiping down the table? How about they can pick up their own things?
- 3:16So one tip moms is when you find a bunch of things that are your kids, and if you live in a
- 3:23two-story, this works for me because I just stick this cute basket on the stairs with all of their
- 3:29things. And then they know to unpack that basket weekly and take it up and put it away in their
- 3:34rooms. Another quick tip is that I've stopped making their lunches. Ever since my daughter
- 3:43was in third grade, now she's a fifth grader, she has been making her own lunches as well as
- 3:48my middle schooler. So if your kids are old enough, let them go ahead and start making their lunches.
- 3:55You're going to have to supervise them at the beginning, but now my kids do it on their own,
- 3:59and I don't have to help them at all. So this is two less things that I have to do for my kids.
- 4:07And it doesn't sound like a lot, but those all add up and give time back to me and help them learn to
- 4:13take responsibility for themselves. And again, moms, just because you can do it doesn't mean
- 4:20that you should do it. So second, what can be shared? What are you carrying that doesn't have
- 4:28to be yours alone? These are things that your spouse could help with or things that could be
- 4:34divided up, things that you don't have to manage all by yourself. Because sometimes we don't need
- 4:40to do more. We just need to stop doing it alone. So get the support that we need. Third, where do
- 4:49you need support? What are you holding that you were never meant to carry all by yourself?
- 4:56Maybe that's asking for help or letting someone step in. Maybe that's not pushing through
- 5:02everything on your own. The fourth part of our audit is what can come off your list completely.
- 5:09Like what are you doing that doesn't actually need to even be done or doesn't need to be done by you
- 5:17or just doesn't need to be done right now. It can be put off to a future date because sometimes the
- 5:22reason you're exhausted is not because you're doing life wrong. It's just because your list
- 5:29is too full. So let's do a quick recap of what we're going to do when we feel overwhelmed and
- 5:35we need to unpack those backpacks. You're going to pause and name it. What is weighing me down
- 5:42right now? Number two, you're going to decide is this mine or does this belong to someone else?
- 5:48Number three, hand it back to whoever it belongs to or set it down. Let them handle it, delegate
- 5:55it, or let it wait and put it off onto your schedule at a later date. Number four, done is
- 6:02better than perfect. We know that on this podcast, right? It doesn't have to be done your way and
- 6:09still be done. We are going to be glad that it's off of our list. I hope this has helped you stop
- 6:16and rethink what's actually causing your overwhelm and gave you a simple practical reset to check
