  attends church meetings regularly and whether it is

  remotely or in person we don't know.

  She was an aged person. She was having back pains, she

  has heart issues, but it was noticed that she wasn't there at

  church on February 1st, a Sunday.

  Now on the night before she had spent time with family, Annie

  and Tomaso and the family that had dinner and they and she'd
• 10:32
  been dropped off at the house. That was the last time she was
• 10:35
  seen. January 31st, February 1st she

  does not show up for church. Family comes to check in on her.

  She's not there. Family says no, this is not a
• 10:46
  person who wanders off she can't.

  She has a hard time checking the mail.

  This is a crime and the police now there is some criticism that

  they didn't act quickly enough. There's criticism that they did

  not assign the right officers to it, that they had officers that
• 11:05
  were greenish right on this case in the beginning or probably
• 11:12
  still to this day in the Pima County Sheriff's Office, but
• 11:16
  they eventually called it a crime scene.

  Now there's some weirdness here, guys, right?

  There's some weirdness like they, they reopen the crime

  scene, then they closed it, then they reopened it, then the FBI

  came in, they closed it, they reopened.

  It's been, it's just been a cluster all the way around.

  And I mean, nevertheless, we have a missing 84 year old,

  hopefully alive, but the the chances of that are very, very,

  very low at this point. So sad, so sad.

  And we're even hearing that from Savannah Guthrie and so forth.

  But what has happened recently? Well, where should we start?

  And this happened yesterday, of course, we were covering JLR

  But yesterday, Savannah Guthrie did return to the Today show.

  So she missed all of February, all of March and then, you know,

  just the first couple days of of April, it was the first Monday

  that she returned. What is the signal before we

  even read this article from today.com written by Scott Stump

  and Maddie Ellis, Does this signal that she has to, she has

  come to maybe the realization that life must go on or not the

  realization. I'm sure she realized that a

  guys, that that the families of victims most of the time come to

  Sometimes it's quick, sometimes not so much.

  But I am going to continue. My dad tells a story and he's on

  my mind because I just talked to him for a few minutes.

  But my dad's dad died of a tragic accident.

  So it's not the same as being the victim of a crime.

  I recognize that. But it was a tragic accident and

  an unexpected death. My dad was seven years old,

  about about to turn 8. Yeah, it was.

  It was like 6 weeks away from turning 8 when his older
• 14:19
  brother, also a child, wakes him up and says, I think dad's dead,
• 14:25
  right. My dad tells this story about
• 14:28
  the whole thing, you know, getting grandpa's body back from
• 14:32
  California and going through the all of that grieving process and
• 14:37
  all of the, you know, the Funeral arrangements and all
• 14:41
  that stuff, right. And then grandma sitting down
• 14:46
  the kids as a young widow, she's like 3132 years old.

  She has 123456 kids. Yeah, 6 kids saying Daddy would
• 15:06
  not want us to mope around for the rest of our lives.

  He would want us to get on with life.
• 15:13
  And and, you know, I mean, I actually kind of choke up about

  that thinking to my grandmother being in that position as a
• 15:19
  young woman, young widow with all these little kids saying
• 15:25
  Daddy would not want us to mope around.

  Everybody has to come to that. And I wonder if this is a signal
• 15:33
  that Savannah has has begun to come to that.

  OK Savannah Guthrie said it is good to be home as she made her

  return to today on April 6th and her first appearance on the show

  since the disappearance of her mother.

  kidnappers in Mexico. OK, I want to start off by maybe

  doing a quick little primer on how to read a story.

  OK, Do we not trust TMZ? Well, number one, they are a

  gossip website. That is what they are fact.

  You know, if if I were a smarter man can't even I would have

  started a gossip YouTube channel because gossip sites man, they
• 20:53
  get the traction, but it wouldn't be in me right?

  It it would be fake. So I it wouldn't have worked out

  for me anyway. We know they are a gossip
• 21:03
  website for sure, 100%. However, look at the way that
• 21:08
  they are reporting this. They are reporting this saying
• 21:12
  not that we are saying that she was with kidnappers in Mexico,
• 21:16
  that we are that there was a letter that claims it.

  They also go on to say that they have, they have, you know, sent
• 21:26
  it into the FBI. Now of course, the FBI is
• 21:31
  notoriously and famously close lipped about all their
• 21:36
  investigations, but eventually, especially when cases are
• 21:42
  closed, these things become available.

  So we could potentially find out if TMZ is full of crap and not
• 21:52
  sending things off to the FBI, which sets up an incentive
• 21:57
  structure for them to be honest about this stuff.

  So do we trust them? I think that we do so

  skeptically, OK, But keep let's just take, just take a look at

  the way it's written and see if they have credibly written in a
• 22:14
  way that is journalistically ethical.

  Have they attributed the facts that they are, I guess, facts or
• 22:25
  opinions that they are reporting?

  And are those attributions public or private, right?

  Are they anonymous or not? And these are all things that we
• 22:36
  can take into consideration. Here we go.

  There are a couple of new notes in the Nancy Guthrie cold case,

  both from the same person offering information on the
• 22:46
  kidnapper. But for the first time, they're
• 22:49
  revealing an exact location and claiming they saw her in Mexico.

  This is what we call a lead. It is.

  It is a summary of the entire article.

  Attributions typically don't have to be in a lead.

  So this is written pretty well so far, TMZ.

  Now we are into the nut graph, everybody.

  TMZ received the first new note Monday morning, the same day

  Savannah Guthrie made her return to today.

  And it's from the person who has been offering to rat out the
• 23:20
  kidnappers for nearly two months.

  They say their demand for one Bitcoin to deliver them on a
• 23:26
  silver platter still stands. That deliver them on a silver
• 23:29
  platter is in quotes. Now this use this uses what's
• 23:38
  kind of pejorative language, right?

  So this this paragraph, I do not think is written in a
• 23:45
  journalistically ethical way by using the term rat out right.

  That is, that is a that is a gossipy way to say that.

  However, they they do attribute it, they attribute that they've
• 24:04
  got a note from a new from the same person that has been in
• 24:07
  touch with them before. This gives us at least
• 24:11
  information if we trust it that the FBI has not caught this
• 24:15
  person so far. But using the term rat out, you

  know you are you're it's a miss. It's a characterization that
• 24:24
  they don't need to put in there. So, you know, I would say
• 24:29
  demerits on on this paragraph shortly after they continues the
• 24:34
  article. Shortly after we talked about
• 24:36
  the first note on TMZ Live, the person that sent a second letter
• 24:39
  saying quote, I saw her alive with them in the state of
• 24:43
  Sonora, Mexico. And then they say Sonora is a
• 24:48
  large Mexican state bordering Arizona and parts of New Mexico.

  Nancy was abducted from her home in Tucson, AZ about 70 miles
• 24:55
  from the border on February 1. Those two paragraphs are written
• 24:58
  pretty well. Let's real quick.

  By the way, just take a look at Sonora.

  It is a large state. Most people don't know that that
• 25:09
  the country of Mexico is is named the United States of
• 25:13
  Mexico, Los Estados Enidos de Mexico, right?

  So Sonora is a state. It goes from basically the

  corner of where California and and Arizona meet kind of that
• 25:29
  corner. So technically, I guess it
• 25:31
  touches California, all of Arizona and a little bit of New
• 25:36
  Mexico and it covers all of this territory.

  And if you think about it, like if I, if I zoom out right, that

  is a state about the size. It's smaller, maybe let's call
• 25:48
  that half the size of Arizona, which is a large place.

  We don't know where in Sonora this person reports to have seen
• 25:57
  her or she was allegedly seen. We don't know if it's true that
• 26:01
  she is in Sonora. All we know for sure is that TMZ
• 26:05
  is reporting that someone said that and so far, with the
• 26:09
  exception of the one demerit or I, I guess I would take take two
• 26:13
  demerits on that nut graph. It does seem to be written
• 26:18
  properly so far. However, the sender is not
• 26:22
  suggesting Nancy is still alive. In the first note they say she
• 26:26
  is dead and that is in quotes. We sent the first note to the
• 26:31
  FBI but it seems the feds aren't convinced it's legit, at least
• 26:35
  based on the fact there's been no deposit into the related
• 26:39
  Bitcoin address. The same account they created
• 26:41
  back in February demerits on this paragraph.

  OK, because they are coming to a conclusion for their audience.

  Rather than letting their audience come to their own

  came out with their the results of their investigation this from

  administrative investigation into Lieutenant Heather Lapin's

  complaint against Sheriff Chris Nanos alleging workplace

  bullying and retaliation following her decision to run

  for Pima County Sheriff. The findings of the report are

  preponderance of the evidence does not support a finding that

  I hated college. I just hated college.

  And you know what's funny is I was good at school.

  I I, I got good grades in school, but I hated college.

  I hated that for some reason I had to take two years of classes

  that I just took in high school. Why do I have to do this right?

  And I got, I just got down on it.

  I didn't want to do it. So I dropped out of college and

  I knew that I wanted to do something in technology.

  While I had been out of the country, the Windows 95 and

  Internet revolution had taken place.

  And when I got back to the United States, there were there

  was all this new technology and I and I really felt like I

  wanted to get into that. And so I tried to go to a

  private school to learn everything new.

  Couldn't afford it. So the next best thing that I

  could find was a company that where I could work for them full

  time and they would train me. So I went to work for Packard

  Bell NEC. It later became NEC Computers.

  I think later it became what was the French company that was part

  of that? Give me a second.

  So I went to work for Packard Bell NEC and they had what was

  called Packard Bell University and they sent me to all sorts of

  different classes to get different certifications from

  right. And I worked in technology for

  about the 1st 10 years of my career.

  About 10 years in, I was working as a web developer for a high

  end audio company and I kind of worked my way up.

  I worked for them for a total of eight years in two different

  stretches, but I worked my way up to, to a director of sales

  position. And then so then I went off to

  another manufacturer of high end audio gear.

  I was there for four years. Then I went to another

  manufacturer of high end audio gear.

  I went there for two years and then I went off on my own.

  Then COVID happened and all of my clientele dried up and that's

  when I started my YouTube channel.

  high end audio company as their web developer and I was there

  for four years and then I was gone for a few years and then I

  went back for four years. Those, those few years that I

  was gone, Kimberly and I moved to Reno, NV and started a I, I

  should say the first four years that I worked for that company,

  I was consulting, I had my own consulting business.

  So we sold that business, moved to Reno, started another

  business and, and it crashed and burned fast, like within six
• 1:03:02
  months. And we, we treaded water barely
• 1:03:09
  for another 2 1/2 years. We were gone for three years.

  During that time I was driving a cab, I was driving limo.

  I was trying different things, you know, trying to get work.

  This is this is kind of afterthe.com bubble had burst

  and I couldn't get steady work. So I was taking anything that I

  could. I full on work for Reno Tahoe

  Cab Company and I, you know, I was working my butt off.

  Kimberly was too. She was teaching way too many
• 1:03:49
  fitness classes in a week that to be healthy for her, right?
• 1:03:53
  It was just way too much. And then she was, she was
• 1:03:57
  waiting tables at a Denny's in the worst part of town in Reno,
• 1:04:01
  NV and we hardly saw each other. And you know, we, we made it, it
• 1:04:07
  was possible for the kids to remain under our, our, our care.
• 1:04:15
  We didn't have to get, you know, daycare or anything because of
• 1:04:19
  our schedules. But I was working 2 full time
• 1:04:22
  jobs. She was working the equivalent
• 1:04:24
  to full time jobs close to full time anyway, plus taking care of
• 1:04:27
  the kids. Just trying, trying, trying to
• 1:04:30
  dig ourselves out of the hole that we had put ourselves in by
• 1:04:33
  this failing business, by failing at business.
• 1:04:36
  And we ultimately had to, we ultimately had to accept the
• 1:04:47
  charity and graciousness and love of our parents to bring us
• 1:04:52
  back home, get us back on our feet.
• 1:04:55
  I, I was hired back with the company that I had consulted
• 1:04:59
  with full time when I got back to California, you know, and we
• 1:05:03
  dugout, that was a difficult, difficult time.
• 1:05:07
  But I'll tell you this, Kimberly and I as a team, I, I like to
• 1:05:13
  describe it as we were like two sides of a zipper.
• 1:05:16
  And that experience zipped us up together, just zipped us
• 1:05:21
  together. And so, you know, when COVID
• 1:05:24
  came and my clientele all went away because their, their
• 1:05:28
  businesses had to close. It was mandated.
• 1:05:30
  It was required that they had to close and then the distributors
• 1:05:33
  couldn't sell to those dealers, so they had to close.
• 1:05:36
  Then the manufacturer started to started to close.
• 1:05:40
  You know that that was a very, very difficult time.
• 1:05:42
  But we had already gone through three years of that.
• 1:05:45
  And so we did not panic and, and went back into OK, we will do
• 1:05:50
  whatever it takes to keep our family afloat.
• 1:05:54
  And, and we have and we did. And my sweet wife went back.
• 1:05:59
  She waited tables, right? She like, I can't tell you how
• 1:06:05
  blessed I am with, with a life partner and my wife who, who is
• 1:06:11
  not afraid of working hard and does not have any pride to
• 1:06:15
  swallow. She just is a hard worker.
• 1:06:18
  It's she's, she's so easy to love, so easy to admire.

  So that's how I dealt with it. I dealt with it because I had
• 1:06:26
  chosen a partner. I'd married her, I've started
• 1:06:30
  family with her and we are completely devoted to one
• 1:06:34
  another and and she has the patience of job.
• 1:06:41
  That is how we did it. And I'm sure you guys have had
• 1:06:44
  hard times in your lives too. I'd love to hear those stories,

  how you got through your difficult periods.

  By the way, those of you who have been watching me for the

  lot at least since October know that when I turned 50, I had a

  really hard time, right? It was I, I don't know, I just,

  I had a really hard time turning 50.

  And I have been able to lean back on those experiences, those

  hard times. Like what is it that I'm, what

  is it that I'm so sad about? What is it that's, that's

  driving this? I've, I've, I've been able to be

  introspective and investigative about it and find things that

  that made me have that kind of post midlife crisis and, and

  work through them. And if I didn't have the wife

  that I have, I, I would have had a much harder time working

  through those things. And it's been a ultimately when

  I talk about those 3 hard times in my life, they've all been
• 1:07:45
  good for me. I saw a, I saw you guys know

  that I love Conan O'Brien and his podcast, Conan O'Brien Needs

  a Friend. He had Elizabeth Banks on
• 1:07:56
  recently and she talked about how she was a sporty girl.

  She, she wanted to go to college and she wanted to get
• 1:08:06
  scholarships and she thought that, you know, being a good

  athlete was a way to do that. And then she ended up breaking
• 1:08:12
  her leg and, and couldn't compete.

  But it was during that time that she decided it to take up acting
• 1:08:24
  and it completely changed her life for the better.

  When we're in the throes of those difficult periods, it's
• 1:08:29
  hard to see how how you can overcome, but you do, right?

  And not only am I not only am I grateful that I went through

  those difficult times, like I wouldn't change it.

  I want I want those difficult times.

  And when I think about our children, I want them to have
• 1:08:53
  similarly difficult times with a partner that they can zip up
