- 0:05Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it. She's on the Money, She's on
- 0:37Speaker 2: the Money. Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money.
- 1:00Speaker 3: The team who were going to Taylor sway, it's not.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Even this year, it's next year, but we got the tickets.
- 1:06Speaker 4: We are going to be insufferable.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I'm sorry. It's started. Very excited for oh straight in.
- 1:14Speaker 2: This is the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom
- 1:16Speaker 2: but also sometimes make really dumb financial decisions, which is
- 1:21Speaker 2: you know, we're doing it to be relatable with him.
- 1:24Speaker 2: We feel so lucky though, I'm so excited. But as
- 1:26Speaker 2: you guys know, today is Friday, our favorite day of
- 1:30Speaker 2: the week, which means our team has come together to
- 1:32Speaker 2: celebrate you, our incredible community and our incredible tailors tickets.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Today we're going to be sharing our favorite money wins
- 1:40Speaker 2: or mister Grieches going to We've got beck on broke
- 1:43Speaker 2: tips once again, we're going to be answering a juicy
- 1:46Speaker 2: money dilemma, which this week is all about working from
- 1:48Speaker 2: home expenses and claiming them in your tax return. And
- 1:51Speaker 2: we're unpacking something that you slid into our DMS about
- 1:54Speaker 2: which this week we're chatting all about holiday budgets and
- 1:57Speaker 2: how to divvy them up between friends fair So, as
- 2:01Speaker 2: always my friends, I'm going to ask you first, Beck
- 2:04Speaker 2: because I know how Jess this week was. How was
- 2:07Speaker 2: your week?
- 2:08Speaker 5: My week has been lovely, as you know, I was
- 2:09Speaker 5: in Sydney last week. Get to have you back, Thank
- 2:11Speaker 5: you so much. It's actually really good to be back.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Can you know when you like go visit family and
- 2:15Speaker 5: there's a sweet spot, there's like two three days in
- 2:17Speaker 5: and you're like, I cannot wait to get home, and
- 2:20Speaker 5: then spend a week then and you kind of get attached.
- 2:23Speaker 5: So it's been a weird week, but I am happy
- 2:26Speaker 5: to be home.
- 2:26Speaker 2: So that's was your mama happy to see you? I think?
- 2:30Speaker 2: So why was your mama would have been like, heck
- 2:33Speaker 2: and yeah, Burke's home. Well it's so nice and think
- 2:35Speaker 2: you definitely got sick of me till the end, but
- 2:37Speaker 2: good reason. Honestly, I'm very.
- 2:39Speaker 5: Excited to see her again.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Oh good, my mamma, Hi mom, shout out to Mama Beck.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Let's just how her week was, Jessic, how is your week?
- 2:50Speaker 2: The best?
- 2:51Speaker 4: Like the best, the best?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Stuttering she cried about the cry literally, I'm just thinking
- 3:04Speaker 2: about it.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I went to bed at three in the morning. I
- 3:06Speaker 4: was so emped.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But it wasn't because I hadn't got tickets since she
- 3:10Speaker 2: was waiting for them. Works because she'd already got tickets
- 3:12Speaker 2: and was now excited about it.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Be adrenaline is what I put on my Instagram.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Sorry.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I was like, this must be what it feels like
- 3:18Speaker 4: to jump out of a plane because I was the
- 3:19Speaker 4: one who got through. And I've never been so scared
- 3:22Speaker 4: in my life that I was going to lose something.
- 3:24Speaker 4: I was like, I.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Don't know what to do. There was actually video evidence
- 3:29Speaker 2: of this, so we will be putting it in our
- 3:31Speaker 2: stories today so that you guys can experience. I would
- 3:35Speaker 2: say very chaotic. She's on the money, tea prick energy.
- 3:39Speaker 4: But good luck to everybody who's going in for general
- 3:41Speaker 4: admin tickets today, Congratulations to everyone who already got them
- 3:44Speaker 4: this week. And just no, I'm not saying anything. I'm
- 3:48Speaker 4: not promising anything, but I'm just saying when we do things,
- 3:52Speaker 4: we always think about you. And if I was you
- 3:55Speaker 4: and I wasn't following us on Instagram or Facebook or
- 3:58Speaker 4: the newsletter, I would maybe want to do that. But
- 4:00Speaker 4: I am saying for me, what's she's saying. I don't know.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I very cryptic, it's relatively cryptic. But if you're a
- 4:08Speaker 2: swifty you read with scream aller, you're.
- 4:12Speaker 6: You know.
- 4:13Speaker 4: But that's it on that. No more from me.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Hot tips from us, though, if you're going in for tickets,
- 4:17Speaker 2: one browser, one internet connection, one tab open. If you
- 4:21Speaker 2: have multiple, they're gonna eat them. And another hot tip
- 4:25Speaker 2: for tickets is if it says sold out really early,
- 4:29Speaker 2: just keep refreshing and keep trying because they're probably in
- 4:31Speaker 2: everyone's baskets and if they either expire or people decide
- 4:35Speaker 2: they don't want to spend that, they might actually, you know,
- 4:38Speaker 2: come available again. Because yes, that's exactly what happened to us.
- 4:41Speaker 4: We got them like fifty minutes in.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, and a lot of people were very shocked that
- 4:45Speaker 2: we did because they were saying, oh, ten pasted, they
- 4:47Speaker 2: were completely sold out. Here's my screenshots, and I was like, yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 2: but here's my screenshots, bestie of my ticket. Anyway. Honestly,
- 4:56Speaker 2: this is what it is like to spend adult money.
- 4:59Speaker 2: This is the only time I've allowed Jessica to even
- 5:02Speaker 2: look side eye at her emergency fun side. I feel
- 5:09Speaker 2: like it's been a journey. We've been trying to get
- 5:10Speaker 2: these tickets for four months. Like we work in radio,
- 5:13Speaker 2: so we've been like pestering every single person with ever
- 5:16Speaker 2: met and ever known, like you have, you're going to
- 5:18Speaker 2: get pre sal You're going to get presu presa presut.
- 5:20Speaker 2: We sound like little seagulls. We'll pay you, We'll pay you.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That's exactly what we were like. Turns out we didn't
- 5:26Speaker 2: need any of you guys.
- 5:27Speaker 5: We did it all by ourselves, So thanks anyway, Thanks anyway.
- 5:32Speaker 2: But everybody was so kind. I think that they could
- 5:35Speaker 2: see jess and the fact that she's already started making
- 5:37Speaker 2: friendship bracelets and wearing on right now, Yah's friendship blot
- 5:42Speaker 2: for who? What do you mean you trade them at
- 5:44Speaker 2: the show? You make friendship bracelets.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and people trade them or give them to each other.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It's in the crowd. Yeah, it's so whole. That's so cute.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Really, is this the thing with all tailors swift concert
- 5:56Speaker 5: or every concert?
- 5:56Speaker 2: I think it's just I don't know if it was
- 5:58Speaker 2: the least a brave thing. So I'm not a raver,
- 6:01Speaker 2: but I'm on TikTok and there are a lot of ravers.
- 6:04Speaker 2: They're like, that's the thing that we do at our concerts,
- 6:07Speaker 2: So now all the swifties are doing it, And I
- 6:08Speaker 2: was like, you don't know that idea. It's wholesome. It's wholesome.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Everyone can do that.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You make bracelets. They have to be homemade. They can't
- 6:15Speaker 2: just be like bracelets that you buy. I don't want those,
- 6:17Speaker 2: and then you trade them on the night and then
- 6:19Speaker 2: you take home a heap of bracelets and everybody has
- 6:22Speaker 2: one of yours.
- 6:22Speaker 4: That's very cute.
- 6:23Speaker 6: Cute.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Anyway, we should get moving along because there's probably people going,
- 6:26Speaker 4: I don't like Daylor Swift, and to you, I say,
- 6:29Speaker 4: what's wrong with you?
- 6:30Speaker 1: Anyway?
- 6:31Speaker 5: Do I see, that's completely fine. I forgot we were
- 6:33Speaker 5: doing a show right now.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Up. Maybe you're here for the money wins. So, Jessica
- 6:39Speaker 2: Richard Strange, what have you got for us this week?
- 6:42Speaker 4: My first money when this week comes from Casey.
- 6:44Speaker 2: To VICKI, and she got Taylor Swift ticket literally me
- 6:47Speaker 2: right at the.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Top money and added money off. My first money when
- 6:50Speaker 4: is from Casey, who said money win. I saved us
- 6:52Speaker 4: about one thousand dollars. My yard was in need of
- 6:54Speaker 4: some serious landscaping, and we thought about hiring someone to
- 6:57Speaker 4: do it a while back, and this past weekend, I
- 6:59Speaker 4: just thought, I'm going to do it myself. I already
- 7:01Speaker 4: had most of the tools, and I spent around two
- 7:03Speaker 4: hundred dollars on plants and supplies. It took me all
- 7:06Speaker 4: day to do it because I was by myself and
- 7:08Speaker 4: it was hot outside and I was ready to throw
- 7:09Speaker 4: in the towel so many times, but I pushed through.
- 7:12Speaker 4: And it looks a lot better than before, and she
- 7:13Speaker 4: has a little before.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that actually looks real cute.
- 7:17Speaker 4: And it's one of those things you're so right, like
- 7:19Speaker 4: you can pay someone else to do it, and it
- 7:20Speaker 4: is totally a payment for convenience, but you can also
- 7:22Speaker 4: do it yourself, and I love that. My next money
- 7:25Speaker 4: mean is also a bit of a DII from Sally,
- 7:27Speaker 4: who said I just moved into a new place and
- 7:29Speaker 4: I wanted a bougie olive oil bottle. All the ones
- 7:31Speaker 4: that I could five were twenty five dollars or more.
- 7:34Speaker 4: So I went to the op shop and I found
- 7:35Speaker 4: a beautiful bottle for two dollars. What grabbed a pora
- 7:38Speaker 4: from Dan Murphy's for five bucks and seven dollars later,
- 7:41Speaker 4: I have myself a pretty bottle.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Do we have another picture?
- 7:43Speaker 4: You have another picture?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Oh you want a picture? That one's really cute. I've
- 7:46Speaker 2: been looking at those, but I can't justify them like
- 7:48Speaker 2: they literally are twenty five bucks. And I'm like, well,
- 7:51Speaker 2: the olive oil I bought comes in a bottle. I
- 7:53Speaker 2: guess that one will do.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Yeah, that is by they need.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Sally's got you self post a picture of my olive
- 7:58Speaker 2: oil bottle actually on the thread because I've tried to
- 8:01Speaker 2: peel the label off so now to make it cuter. Yep,
- 8:04Speaker 2: it didn't work. Now, No, it's sticky, you know how
- 8:10Speaker 2: like the stick apart goes real sticky.
- 8:11Speaker 5: It's sticky and just like those like almost like claws.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not a money win. It's not a money loss.
- 8:17Speaker 2: It's just weird.
- 8:19Speaker 5: It's just a big inconvenience.
- 8:21Speaker 2: One out of ten looks gross.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Next, I've got money in from Emma, who said a
- 8:24Speaker 4: friend of mine just bought land and was really honest
- 8:27Speaker 4: with me about brunch not being in their budget for
- 8:29Speaker 4: a while. I suggested, how about we do brunch in
- 8:32Speaker 4: important to note, I'm a former chef. She's a good cook,
- 8:35Speaker 4: so no worries about nice to do it nice breakfast
- 8:37Speaker 4: from home. I hosted the first one, and twenty five
- 8:40Speaker 4: dollars later, I had brunch items for five of us
- 8:42Speaker 4: and my toddler.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Who how could that? That's a good deal.
- 8:45Speaker 4: That's less than I feel like what you would pay
- 8:47Speaker 4: for one brunch.
- 8:48Speaker 2: That's less than five mins each, including that toddler.
- 8:50Speaker 4: And now they're going to rotate through and take turns,
- 8:52Speaker 4: so next time brunch will be free.
- 8:54Speaker 2: We should start doing that. How awesome, that's a really
- 8:56Speaker 2: good idea, like the breakfast club. Oh yeah, but gin
- 8:59Speaker 2: know what else Jess and a doing potato club? What
- 9:03Speaker 2: is this entail? We are having a dinner party that
- 9:06Speaker 2: you're invited to actually everybody. We can't feed everybody, but
- 9:09Speaker 2: you're invited. The you make the list back, the rest
- 9:13Speaker 2: of the team will be invited and we'll share it
- 9:15Speaker 2: on socials. But we're gonna do a potato party where
- 9:18Speaker 2: every single item on the menu has to include potatoes,
- 9:22Speaker 2: including the drinks.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Everyone brings a plate. Do potatoes your favorite way? Think
- 9:26Speaker 4: about that. That's a great idea.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Ten different ways of eating potatoes and cheap, so cheap.
- 9:32Speaker 5: If you're Noki and a baked potato.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Inted, you're invited, think about all right, that's on the lead.
- 9:38Speaker 6: I am.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I have been looking up whether sweet potatoes make the
- 9:43Speaker 2: car Are they in or are they out? Because there
- 9:46Speaker 2: are a lot of desserts you can make with sweet
- 9:48Speaker 2: potatoes but not normal potatoes, so we'll have to be crafty.
- 9:52Speaker 2: But I did find a recipe for pastry made from
- 9:55Speaker 2: potato and flour.
- 9:56Speaker 4: Oh, we can be really creative. I am going to
- 9:59Speaker 4: try my bestst My next money this week is not
- 10:02Speaker 4: potato related, but it comes from Jody who said my
- 10:05Speaker 4: boss paid me a sick day when he didn't have
- 10:06Speaker 4: to buy law and I was just like, oh, that's
- 10:09Speaker 4: kind of nice. Like, I know that you're like, h,
- 10:11Speaker 4: that's not exciting. I can see it in your face.
- 10:13Speaker 4: But remember, for some people, that's very exciting. Not everyone
- 10:16Speaker 4: has a cool boss.
- 10:17Speaker 2: I'm not a recoss. I'm a cool boss. I appreciate
- 10:21Speaker 2: the ego boost, Jessica, but I also just go, is
- 10:25Speaker 2: that not the bare minimum? I know what you mean,
- 10:28Speaker 2: but let's celebrate. Let's celebrate it, I guess and beyond
- 10:31Speaker 2: and I get it. I totally get it, but I
- 10:34Speaker 2: also just think there should be more responsibility on people.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Just being nice. Well well done to I don't know
- 10:40Speaker 4: a boss's name, but well done, Tim Jody. My next
- 10:43Speaker 4: money when it comes from Chloe, who said my skincare
- 10:45Speaker 4: is running out and I've been wanting to try go
- 10:47Speaker 4: to for a while. Today they had a special on
- 10:49Speaker 4: so while I spent forty dollars on simonees to try,
- 10:52Speaker 4: I'm also going to get ninety dollars of other product
- 10:54Speaker 4: to use as well.
- 10:55Speaker 2: What how did I miss these?
- 10:56Speaker 4: I got that targeted at this morning and it looks
- 10:58Speaker 4: very good. Oh, I'm not sponsored, just avan. I love
- 11:02Speaker 4: a targeted dad. Ah, they do be targeting the algorithm algorithm, Yeah,
- 11:08Speaker 4: I love it and lastly got to finish on theme.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I have a money win from Charlotte, who says I've
- 11:13Speaker 4: been putting aside small amounts of money for three years
- 11:17Speaker 4: just in case Taylor Swift tours as a huge Swifty.
- 11:20Speaker 4: I'm hoping to be buying tickets this week without sacrificing
- 11:23Speaker 4: other financial goals.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Love Charlotte and everybody else. It makes me so happy
- 11:27Speaker 2: because Jess and I were talking about this before and
- 11:29Speaker 2: we feel incredibly privileged to have been able to buy
- 11:32Speaker 2: tickets in the pre sale because they are obviously, let's
- 11:36Speaker 2: be honest, significantly more expensive than normal tickets, but as
- 11:41Speaker 2: as Swifty since two thousand and six, like I have
- 11:44Speaker 2: been playing her music on piano until my parents will
- 11:46Speaker 2: literally like, baby, you need a new book, like we're here,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and my dad bought me Delta Gudrum's book instead. Yeah exactly.
- 11:54Speaker 2: But I couldn't afford to go to her first concert.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I couldn't afford to go to her eighteen concept, none
- 12:01Speaker 2: of them. And now I can and I'm just like
- 12:03Speaker 2: we are living like past Victoria. She is crying. She's
- 12:08Speaker 2: so proud of future Victoria. I know, but like I
- 12:11Speaker 2: felt like I missed out. Should be back again. It's
- 12:13Speaker 2: Taylor Swift, like if you miss out this time, Like
- 12:15Speaker 2: I totally get that, it would be heartbreaking. I think
- 12:17Speaker 2: Jess would actually have to take sick days if we
- 12:19Speaker 2: didn't get tickets, Like I think she'd be on mental health.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Leave enough a hundred percent.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Like I'd grant it too, I'd allow that. I'd be
- 12:27Speaker 2: like understandable. It's basically like a death in the family because.
- 12:30Speaker 4: She's a cool boss.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Yeah, she'd be in the moneymans next week, Like my
- 12:33Speaker 5: boss didn't need to give me time on Jess.
- 12:36Speaker 2: It was Jess. But I just I think it's important
- 12:39Speaker 2: to point it out because there are going to be
- 12:40Speaker 2: people listening that are like I can't afford it, or
- 12:42Speaker 2: I can't do that, or it's really overwhelming at the moment,
- 12:44Speaker 2: and it's like this too will pass. There's always going
- 12:47Speaker 2: to be another opportunity, and I think that we need
- 12:49Speaker 2: to remind ourselves of that as well.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Back on track, Beck, Okay, so broke tip for this week,
- 12:53Speaker 5: I've got two from our community, and then I will
- 12:56Speaker 5: give you one as it usually goes.
- 12:58Speaker 2: So the first one is from Hannah.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Hana wrote to me and said, so, I work in
- 13:01Speaker 5: agriculture slash horticulture, and I'm always giving up planned tips.
- 13:06Speaker 5: But I'm sure there are loads of people out there
- 13:08Speaker 5: with random job skills that can share to the community.
- 13:11Speaker 5: For example, my cousin who is a mechanic, taught me
- 13:13Speaker 5: how to install six buck windscreen wipers, which is tips
- 13:17Speaker 5: of the trade, which I.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Think is a really great easy I have no idea
- 13:19Speaker 2: what that is. It's like, basically, you know a thing
- 13:22Speaker 2: that windscreen, the windscreen wipers, but basically what the point
- 13:25Speaker 2: of this is that you know you can go to
- 13:26Speaker 2: like there's.
- 13:27Speaker 5: A Brunswick tool library, or.
- 13:29Speaker 2: You can learn how to Yeah there is, Oh that's sick.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I don't know where it is.
- 13:32Speaker 5: I've never been to it. Maybe to shut down, but anyway,
- 13:34Speaker 5: please Google. There should be one around you hopefully. But
- 13:36Speaker 5: you know, if someone like, for example, I learned how
- 13:38Speaker 5: to change my tire. Now, anytime my tire blows and
- 13:41Speaker 5: literally just change it myself. I don't have to go pay, Like,
- 13:43Speaker 5: I don't know how much it costs. I don't know
- 13:44Speaker 5: how much cost because I've never had to do it.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Because you're really smart because I know how to change
- 13:48Speaker 5: my tire. Yeah, and even your windscreen wipers. If you
- 13:51Speaker 5: just know where to buy them and how to fit
- 13:53Speaker 5: them yourself, you can do that yourself. You're saving so
- 13:56Speaker 5: much money by learning how to do these things on
- 13:58Speaker 5: your own, which I think is really just a.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Good life tip, let's be honest, a life tip.
- 14:03Speaker 5: And also I guess if you have the money and
- 14:06Speaker 5: you want to be you want things to be more convenient,
- 14:08Speaker 5: and you can'tform it, you can go to the mechanic
- 14:10Speaker 5: or whatever.
- 14:10Speaker 4: It doesn't have to be mechanic, but you know what
- 14:12Speaker 4: I mean.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Me learning that you need to replace your in screen wipers,
- 14:16Speaker 2: I had no idea.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Are they not like here here?
- 14:19Speaker 1: And they are?
- 14:20Speaker 4: I just thought that was because my old rusty as wow, I.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Like, doesn't even wipe off all the rain or no
- 14:28Speaker 5: streaky that makes my blood and cold come.
- 14:31Speaker 2: She'll sort you out. I'll sell you out for a
- 14:33Speaker 2: great price. If you know what I just said.
- 14:36Speaker 5: It's sexual aboute hundred dollars, so I'll do it for
- 14:38Speaker 5: you for like eighty.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Okay, that's a good deal.
- 14:42Speaker 5: Great, And my next broke tip for this week is
- 14:44Speaker 5: from I hope I'm saying this right. And Alise or
- 14:46Speaker 5: Lease I believe their name might be or their nickname
- 14:49Speaker 5: might be. They pretty much just said, if you are
- 14:52Speaker 5: wanting a to kind of like double up here, feel
- 14:55Speaker 5: a little bit wholesome, do something good for the community,
- 14:57Speaker 5: and also potentially get a little free feed, donate blood
- 15:01Speaker 5: where possible.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Which is a really good tip you've shared.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Yeah, thank you. Well I wish I could take credit,
- 15:08Speaker 5: but this one is all analyst, so yeah. And they
- 15:11Speaker 5: did say, you know, if you are low and iron
- 15:14Speaker 5: or something, which is kind of my thing as well,
- 15:16Speaker 5: you can donate plasma. So obviously just like go and
- 15:18Speaker 5: talk to them and see what you can do and
- 15:20Speaker 5: what you can donate and what you can't donate, et cetera,
- 15:22Speaker 5: and you might get a free feed and.
- 15:25Speaker 2: You're doing something really good for the world.
- 15:27Speaker 4: You get those really nice texts after you've donated blood.
- 15:30Speaker 4: They tell you when it's going somewhere, like you get
- 15:31Speaker 4: an update that says your blood's going to children's hospital
- 15:34Speaker 4: in XYZ and you're, oh, my god, like it's actually, yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 4: I love helping someone. It's so lovely.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Unless you're like me and you faint on them and
- 15:42Speaker 2: they say please don't come back.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I have done that, and then they say you
- 15:46Speaker 4: can't get in your car and you have to uper
- 15:48Speaker 4: home money.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Loss, money loss, Okay, don't do that.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I was like, okay, so sorry, I can I still
- 15:57Speaker 3: take a chalky milk? Did you still get a choking
- 16:00Speaker 3: still got the tricky meal? Oh that's very cute. So
- 16:02Speaker 3: you're a thief.
- 16:05Speaker 2: I needed it for my recovery bet. That's no, that's
- 16:08Speaker 2: very true. That's very true. Okay.
- 16:10Speaker 5: I feel like you guys are usually disappointed with my
- 16:13Speaker 5: personal broked in, but no we're not.
- 16:16Speaker 2: But that's very nice. Okay, we already dub a different
- 16:19Speaker 2: broke tip my favorite though, So this better be good.
- 16:23Speaker 5: It's not gonna be no pressure, yes, pressure, it's on me.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Okay.
- 16:28Speaker 5: If you are going out with friends and you are
- 16:30Speaker 5: partial to a drink and you don't want to spend
- 16:32Speaker 5: too much money, slept with a man, sleep with a man.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Sorry, or women, or or flirt with out.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Peopleson who who is rich? So marry a rich person. No,
- 16:47Speaker 5: before you do that, go to the servo, not to service, sorry,
- 16:50Speaker 5: go to this liquor store and get yourself a four
- 16:52Speaker 5: dollars bottle of red wine. I'm sure you get that
- 16:55Speaker 5: in white one too. You can, and if you are
- 16:57Speaker 5: broke Unfortunately, you're just gonna have to deal with it, okay,
- 17:00Speaker 5: because it doesn't It doesn't taste bad.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I quite like the cheap makes you sexier if you're
- 17:06Speaker 2: into the cask, but if you buy a terrible here
- 17:09Speaker 2: this is Victoria's actual life hat. Yes, sorry to hijack
- 17:13Speaker 2: you there. Please, I think you need to try this
- 17:15Speaker 2: out for the community. By the way, cheap bottle of
- 17:18Speaker 2: red wine. Put it in the blender. What pinch of salt?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Blend it? The salt counteracts the sul fights in it,
- 17:27Speaker 2: so it doesn't taste as black and the aeration makes
- 17:31Speaker 2: it taste like a better wine. Oh, so you like
- 17:34Speaker 2: have to blend the hell out of it. Then just
- 17:36Speaker 2: like let it settle and pour it back into the bottle,
- 17:38Speaker 2: because there's it does feel a bit dank pouring a
- 17:42Speaker 2: glass of wine from your blender.
- 17:45Speaker 5: What a nutritious set That is delicious and so.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Good fights I swear by university Victoria did that all
- 17:52Speaker 2: the time. That's actually a really good idea, So thank
- 17:55Speaker 2: you for that, bro tip. You're not going to do that,
- 17:57Speaker 2: so you're recommending for dollar wine.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Yeah, personally, I'm not going to do that because I
- 18:02Speaker 5: know I'm used to the flavor, very very cheap things,
- 18:05Speaker 5: and I quite enjoy.
- 18:07Speaker 4: So what's your recommendation my brand?
- 18:09Speaker 2: Oh, my recommendation for a brand? I love a clean Skin.
- 18:12Speaker 5: I think that's trually the name of the brand. And
- 18:15Speaker 5: I don't know if that's crazy to say, but I don't.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Think it's actually clean.
- 18:19Speaker 5: It's it's literally called clean skin, and it's like six
- 18:23Speaker 5: dollars I think, and it's very tasty. I love a chirasm.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So okay, thanks taking over the world. So let's go
- 18:30Speaker 2: to a really break and after we're going to be
- 18:32Speaker 2: talking about working from home expenses and how to claim
- 18:34Speaker 2: them on your tax return. And we're unpacking a DM
- 18:37Speaker 2: all about how to budget when traveling with friends and
- 18:40Speaker 2: splitting costs, and it does get a little bit spicy,
- 18:44Speaker 2: so guys, don't go anywhere.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody. Let's have a listen to this week's
- 18:53Speaker 4: money dilemma.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 18:58Speaker 2: can't solve the She's on the team is here to help.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big and small,
- 19:04Speaker 2: to answer your most burning money, career and life questions.
- 19:08Speaker 2: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 19:10Speaker 2: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 19:12Speaker 2: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 19:15Speaker 2: this week's Money dilemma.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Hi, she's on the Money team. I have a question
- 19:23Speaker 6: following the tax time episode, I was planning to claim
- 19:28Speaker 6: the fixed rate tax method for working from home, and
- 19:32Speaker 6: I've been keeping a detailed record of the days and
- 19:34Speaker 6: hours that I do work for My question is do
- 19:38Speaker 6: I need to also have a record of the bills
- 19:41Speaker 6: that I've been paying, so the electricity bills, the water bills, etc.
- 19:45Speaker 6: For me, I currently live home with my parents, so
- 19:48Speaker 6: a lot of those bills are in their name other
- 19:50Speaker 6: than see my telephone bill. I'm not sure if I
- 19:54Speaker 6: can then claim or what I should be doing. I'm
- 19:57Speaker 6: a bit confused, and I'm sure there's lots of other
- 19:59Speaker 6: peop out there in the same boat, So thanks for
- 20:02Speaker 6: your help.
- 20:03Speaker 2: This one's an interesting one because the ATO recently came
- 20:06Speaker 2: out and said that this year their focus is on
- 20:09Speaker 2: making sure that people are not claiming things they shouldn't
- 20:12Speaker 2: be when working from home. Because we went through COVID,
- 20:16Speaker 2: everybody worked from home, there are a whole heap of
- 20:18Speaker 2: I guess liberties that we could take to claim while
- 20:21Speaker 2: working from home, and now they've been like mmmmmm not forever,
- 20:24Speaker 2: my friends. So I find this an interesting one. Obviously,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I'm not an accountant, and we really should preface it
- 20:30Speaker 2: with that, because I think that this is a topic
- 20:32Speaker 2: that ultimately I can't directly answer. You need to talk
- 20:36Speaker 2: to your accountant. But what I do know is you
- 20:39Speaker 2: need documentation. My other question is I'm making the assumption
- 20:43Speaker 2: that if your parents are paying the bill, they're maybe
- 20:45Speaker 2: splitting it with you, and if that's the case, you
- 20:48Speaker 2: could potentially claim your portion, but you would need proof
- 20:51Speaker 2: of one the total bilberd to what your portion was
- 20:54Speaker 2: of it. But if you're not, for some reason, actually
- 20:57Speaker 2: directly paying the bill, maybe your parents just charge you.
- 21:00Speaker 2: This is an assumption, like two hundred dollars a week
- 21:02Speaker 2: board or something. You can't go ahead and then claim
- 21:05Speaker 2: an expense that wasn't directly related to you even though
- 21:08Speaker 2: you used it. It's kind of like you coming over
- 21:10Speaker 2: Beck and being like, oh, I work from Victoria's house,
- 21:13Speaker 2: you know, a couple of days a week, I'm going
- 21:14Speaker 2: to claim the internet access that I used at her place.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Like that's not how it works. So I think it's
- 21:19Speaker 2: it's an interesting question. There's a lot of information this year,
- 21:22Speaker 2: particularly about working from home and what you can and
- 21:25Speaker 2: can't claim, on the ATO website, which is ATO dot
- 21:28Speaker 2: gov dot au, and I would check that out because, honestly,
- 21:32Speaker 2: the game has kind of changed a little bit. They've
- 21:34Speaker 2: definitely refreshed the way that they are letting taxpayers claim things,
- 21:38Speaker 2: but also what costs they're letting you take advantage of
- 21:42Speaker 2: and not. So I think it's really important to I guess,
- 21:44Speaker 2: do a bit of research. There's definitely merit in keeping
- 21:47Speaker 2: that diary that you've kept of when you're working from
- 21:49Speaker 2: home and how that works. But at the end of
- 21:52Speaker 2: the day, you need to kind of look at what
- 21:54Speaker 2: is most applicable to you and what you think is
- 21:56Speaker 2: fair and reasonable. So I would, honestly, if you're confused,
- 22:00Speaker 2: talk to an accountant. As you guys know, I'm a
- 22:02Speaker 2: big fan of getting professional advice where you can afford it.
- 22:05Speaker 2: The other money win with seeing an accountant is you
- 22:07Speaker 2: can claim the accountant's fees next year on your tax
- 22:10Speaker 2: returns to their tax deductible, which is.
- 22:12Speaker 4: Kind of sexy and more often than not they pay
- 22:14Speaker 4: for themselves. Last year was my first year seeing someone
- 22:17Speaker 4: a tax agent, and it literally they claimed me so
- 22:19Speaker 4: much more than I knew that I could. So if
- 22:21Speaker 4: you're in that situation, it might pay for itself.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Okay, so I obviously can't be giving advice on this,
- 22:28Speaker 5: but I think everything you guys have said is elite.
- 22:31Speaker 4: You can have the first crack at the community to
- 22:32Speaker 4: let me have about that.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Okay, that found great. You're nothing if not generous, Jess.
- 22:37Speaker 4: I just won't need to go first.
- 22:40Speaker 2: So that's a good idea. You're nothing if not generous.
- 22:44Speaker 2: I'm nothing. That is not how we speak to our
- 22:48Speaker 2: fellow team members. For you, what's weird for me?
- 22:53Speaker 5: I'm so sorry.
- 22:55Speaker 2: You're not sorry. You're sorry you got called out. I
- 22:58Speaker 2: am sure even three people left listening to this.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I know.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Thanks for coming all the way. All right, community dilemma,
- 23:05Speaker 2: let's dive in this week. I got a message and
- 23:08Speaker 2: it sounded like this, Hi, Ve, I would love your advice.
- 23:11Speaker 2: So I'm going to Europe soom with two of my
- 23:13Speaker 2: best friends. Like everybody else in the country. At this point,
- 23:16Speaker 2: as we get closer, I've realized that I think we're
- 23:19Speaker 2: on totally different pages about what type of holiday and
- 23:22Speaker 2: experience we want. Me and friend number one are quite similar,
- 23:26Speaker 2: and we've already compromised on accommodation and we met the
- 23:29Speaker 2: budget of quote friend too. We personally would have been
- 23:33Speaker 2: willing to pay a bit more, but she wasn't, so
- 23:35Speaker 2: we were happy to do this for her. But now
- 23:38Speaker 2: I'm looking at booking a bunch of restaurants and activities
- 23:40Speaker 2: for us, and she's rejected all of my suggestions, saying
- 23:43Speaker 2: that they're too expensive and she wouldn't pay that. I'm
- 23:46Speaker 2: stuck on what to do now, as me and friend
- 23:49Speaker 2: number one would love to go to nice restaurants and
- 23:51Speaker 2: treat ourselves. I've worked so hard to save up for
- 23:54Speaker 2: this trip, and if it comes down to it, I
- 23:56Speaker 2: would go and do these things, even if it meant
- 23:58Speaker 2: going without her. But is that awful of us to
- 24:01Speaker 2: leave her to do all these things when we're all
- 24:03Speaker 2: meant to be traveling together? Mmmmmm tricky? Tricky?
- 24:08Speaker 5: Well, you know, I think we've all been that friend
- 24:12Speaker 5: that's kind of afford anything, But I think that there
- 24:15Speaker 5: are al ways around it. It doesn't maybe sound like
- 24:19Speaker 5: the would I say, Friend number three, could I call
- 24:22Speaker 5: this person that Friend number three is willing to compromise
- 24:27Speaker 5: that much, but hopefully it's just like a financial compromise.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Hopefully they're willing to be like, cool, I'll come to
- 24:32Speaker 5: this thing with you. I might just like eat first.
- 24:34Speaker 5: That way I don't have to I can just buy
- 24:35Speaker 5: a starter and not have to spend too much money.
- 24:37Speaker 5: I still want to experience these things with you, but
- 24:39Speaker 5: just not spend the money, which is completely You're able
- 24:43Speaker 5: to do that, like you don't have to miss out
- 24:45Speaker 5: on things. But I would say, just have a I
- 24:47Speaker 5: don't know, just have a chat with this person, be
- 24:49Speaker 5: like is it financially you're not willing or not able
- 24:52Speaker 5: to do this?
- 24:53Speaker 2: Or do you?
- 24:54Speaker 5: Are you feeling like this is overwhelming? You like, is
- 24:57Speaker 5: there an underlying reason why this person is kind of
- 24:59Speaker 5: like things? Because it's literally just financial. There are so
- 25:03Speaker 5: many ways around that eat first, go get some street food,
- 25:06Speaker 5: go whatever, you know, do cheaper things, and also do
- 25:10Speaker 5: the more expensive things. But your friend doesn't have to
- 25:12Speaker 5: the participate or spend as much money as you're going
- 25:14Speaker 5: to spend. There are definitely ways around them.
- 25:16Speaker 4: I think it's hard because in my mind, everyone's entitled
- 25:21Speaker 4: to holiday that the way that they won and going
- 25:23Speaker 4: to Europe is no small undertaking. So on one hand,
- 25:26Speaker 4: I'm like, well, for the friend with the smaller budget, who,
- 25:28Speaker 4: as you said, we have all been there, you know,
- 25:31Speaker 4: she might just want to get there, and she might
- 25:32Speaker 4: just be like, oh my gosh, I'm real happy to
- 25:34Speaker 4: be here, can barely afford to do anything, but excited nonetheless.
- 25:38Speaker 4: But at the same time, the friends who have the
- 25:40Speaker 4: larger budget, I also go for a lot of people,
- 25:42Speaker 4: a trip to Europe is a once in a lifetime trip,
- 25:44Speaker 4: and so if there's really exciting things that they've saved
- 25:46Speaker 4: and they want to do, they should also be able
- 25:48Speaker 4: to do those. So I feel like it is a
- 25:51Speaker 4: matter of getting on the same page before you go.
- 25:55Speaker 4: You don't leave it till you get there, because that
- 25:57Speaker 4: is a recipe for disaster and for ruining everybody's time
- 25:59Speaker 4: and way everybody's money. But I think you kind of
- 26:02Speaker 4: have to find a way, as you said, to either
- 26:04Speaker 4: compromise and meet in the middle. Like they've compromised on
- 26:07Speaker 4: the accommodation. It's within the budget of everyone. Are there
- 26:09Speaker 4: some restaurants that you can add to lists that are
- 26:11Speaker 4: in the budget of everyone? But I also think that
- 26:14Speaker 4: they may be the girls with the bigger budget need
- 26:17Speaker 4: to do some lower budget activities and the girl with
- 26:19Speaker 4: the lower budget needs to be okay with the girls
- 26:22Speaker 4: with the larger budget maybe going off and doing some
- 26:24Speaker 4: things on their own, because I think when you travel
- 26:26Speaker 4: in a group, there's this misconception that you always have
- 26:29Speaker 4: to be together all of the time. As well, we've
- 26:32Speaker 4: done that.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Jess and I went to Europe in a group of
- 26:34Speaker 2: what was there five of us and it didn't mean
- 26:36Speaker 2: that we were all doing the same thing. So guess
- 26:38Speaker 2: what beck no chance was I getting up at six
- 26:41Speaker 2: am in Paris to go to the fancy museum to
- 26:44Speaker 2: get the content photos. Who was doing this?
- 26:47Speaker 4: Oh wow, I've always wanted to see water lilies and
- 26:50Speaker 4: I got to sit there and absorb it and it
- 26:51Speaker 4: was the best experence.
- 26:52Speaker 2: There was nobody else there.
- 26:54Speaker 4: It was like me and the paintings was gorgeous, and
- 26:56Speaker 4: I was like, I'm going to get me up. So
- 27:01Speaker 4: that's the thing, right, Like everyone has different values, and everyone,
- 27:04Speaker 4: I think should be able to enjoy their holiday in
- 27:05Speaker 4: a way that they can afford. I think if you
- 27:08Speaker 4: do all want to travel together, you've got to compromise
- 27:10Speaker 4: and find a way to meet in the middle. If
- 27:12Speaker 4: you can't, it might be that maybe your trips just
- 27:15Speaker 4: aren't a one and that is also okay. If you go,
- 27:17Speaker 4: we want to have a really fancy, bougie holiday, and
- 27:20Speaker 4: Friend number three goes, oh, I just want to kind
- 27:22Speaker 4: of do a budget, just want to see the world,
- 27:24Speaker 4: backpack it across, also very fine. But it may be
- 27:29Speaker 4: that you actually can't do the two concurrently, and maybe
- 27:32Speaker 4: you just go, oh, maybe we do two separate trips.
- 27:34Speaker 4: Maybe Friend three fines Friend four to go with them,
- 27:37Speaker 4: and friend want and two go off on their own,
- 27:38Speaker 4: or maybe you travel together for a little bit and
- 27:40Speaker 4: split off or something like that. Because you don't want
- 27:44Speaker 4: anyone to come home from something like that, which is
- 27:46Speaker 4: such a huge financial investment to come from Australia just
- 27:49Speaker 4: to get there is several thousand dollars before you pay
- 27:52Speaker 4: for anything else. You don't want anyone to come home
- 27:54Speaker 4: from that feeling disappointed. And that's you know what I mean.
- 27:57Speaker 4: I feel like they're doing the right thing. Now hash
- 27:59Speaker 4: it out now, I think.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Again reiterating what you said, Jess, like have the conversation
- 28:05Speaker 2: beforehand is perfect, but we're clearly not in that situation.
- 28:09Speaker 2: We've now booked we're in the middle of it. I'd
- 28:11Speaker 2: actually sit down and go, all right, well, let's wipe
- 28:13Speaker 2: off the table everything that we want to talk about, like,
- 28:16Speaker 2: I don't care about what you want to do, I
- 28:17Speaker 2: don't care what you want to do back, and we're
- 28:19Speaker 2: going to sit down and just talk about all right, well,
- 28:21Speaker 2: what was your daily budget, what did that look like?
- 28:24Speaker 2: How can we mix and match activities to suit? Because
- 28:28Speaker 2: when you're in Europe, if you do enough good research,
- 28:32Speaker 2: there are so many free things to do. And some
- 28:34Speaker 2: of my favorite things when I have traveled to different locations,
- 28:38Speaker 2: and I think I've said this on the podcast, on
- 28:39Speaker 2: the travel episodes, my favorite thing to do when I
- 28:42Speaker 2: get to a new location I've never been on is
- 28:44Speaker 2: finding a walking tour and going on one of those
- 28:47Speaker 2: because you get to see like the town and honestly,
- 28:51Speaker 2: they're free because they run by, Let's be honest, crazy
- 28:54Speaker 2: passionate people about the town. They know all of the tips,
- 28:57Speaker 2: they know all of the good bars, they know all
- 28:59Speaker 2: the really interesting fact they'll point out their cemetery and
- 29:01Speaker 2: tell you who is in there, Like it's just so interesting.
- 29:04Speaker 2: And I mean, yes, you probably should be tipping your
- 29:07Speaker 2: travel guide and whoever has taken you. But if you
- 29:09Speaker 2: can't afford that, then they're absolutely free. But there are
- 29:12Speaker 2: so many things that you can do that are free
- 29:14Speaker 2: that means that might free up a bit of that
- 29:16Speaker 2: daily budget to have a nice at dinner. And at
- 29:18Speaker 2: that point you can say, well, we want to go
- 29:20Speaker 2: and do this and this. Jess what day would suit you? Oh,
- 29:25Speaker 2: I don't really want to go Okay, no worries. What
- 29:27Speaker 2: day would suit you for Beck and I to go
- 29:29Speaker 2: off and have that fancy dinner? Is there something like
- 29:32Speaker 2: that you know you've worked out you want to see
- 29:34Speaker 2: and you might go just oh, actually I found this
- 29:37Speaker 2: pub in London that does truviaut and tend doll the Parmers,
- 29:41Speaker 2: and I'm going to go to that see if i
- 29:42Speaker 2: can make some new friends and I go bingo. That's
- 29:45Speaker 2: the day Beck and I are going to go off
- 29:46Speaker 2: because we all have something that we can get up to.
- 29:49Speaker 2: So I think planning is really important, but also just
- 29:52Speaker 2: being really honest, like we really want to do these things,
- 29:55Speaker 2: they're on our list. How can we make those things happen?
- 29:58Speaker 2: When you travel as a group. From my perspective, it
- 30:00Speaker 2: is about compromise, like it's not my dream holiday. It's
- 30:04Speaker 2: our dream holiday. So it's not going to be one
- 30:06Speaker 2: hundred percent what Victoria wants or one hundred percent what
- 30:08Speaker 2: Jess wants. We kind of have to go, well, what
- 30:11Speaker 2: does this budget look like, how does this work? How
- 30:13Speaker 2: can we save? And something that you know Jess knows
- 30:16Speaker 2: because I'm unlucky for her. She traveled with me quite
- 30:19Speaker 2: a bit.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Now.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I don't care about breakfast in other countries. I am
- 30:25Speaker 2: a brunch girly through and through in Australia. Going out
- 30:29Speaker 2: for breakfast in other countries to me, Jess, what do
- 30:31Speaker 2: I think of it? Not much? Absolutely absolute lost money.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I'm like, this is for fuel. I'm not enjoying myself
- 30:40Speaker 2: before ten am. It's not gonna happen. So if there's
- 30:43Speaker 2: free breakfast buffet, it's fantastic. Am I adding it on
- 30:46Speaker 2: to my hotel experience though, Jessica?
- 30:48Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 30:49Speaker 2: No, we're not paying for that. I'm not paying for
- 30:52Speaker 2: the privilege of two slices of not even veggie, might
- 30:55Speaker 2: toast because you don't offer that in Europe. But a
- 30:58Speaker 2: toast what another ten euros or something? Absolutely not, Jess,
- 31:02Speaker 2: what are we doing?
- 31:03Speaker 4: We're going to the supermarket thank you.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Whoa You guys did not even rehearses ahead of time
- 31:10Speaker 5: because she knows, she knows Rain. I cannot believe what's
- 31:17Speaker 5: happening right in front of my knows.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Like the second we got to America, I was like, right,
- 31:22Speaker 2: we're off to target. What do you want? What's your
- 31:25Speaker 2: cereal of choice? Got a big thing of boat milk coffee.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Oh no, we're not paying for American coffee.
- 31:30Speaker 4: No, we wint buy breakfast for a week.
- 31:32Speaker 6: No.
- 31:33Speaker 5: Wow.
- 31:33Speaker 2: It was like twenty dollars American and we got in America.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Like their coffee is honestly, it's not better. Australian coffee
- 31:41Speaker 2: is elite, but their bottled coffee is better, and they
- 31:44Speaker 2: like do bottled Starbucks. So it's like what like cold
- 31:47Speaker 2: filtered coffee just doesn't drink coffee because it's a psychopath
- 31:50Speaker 2: but filtered coffee and then like you can buy a creamer.
- 31:53Speaker 2: So I was making my own coffee is in the
- 31:55Speaker 2: room and I was Jess. I took my own sippy cup,
- 32:00Speaker 2: like you know, like the plastic reusables you know, the
- 32:02Speaker 2: Starbucks like were usable, like made my owner slatt and
- 32:07Speaker 2: would take them back to the conference.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's not embarrassed.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Of me sometimes not wasting money on that like that
- 32:14Speaker 2: to me. You know what, if you love breakfast, you
- 32:17Speaker 2: do you the idea that we could have a really
- 32:19Speaker 2: relaxed warning, we'd get up. I'd be like, oh, do
- 32:21Speaker 2: you want me to make your cereal?
- 32:25Speaker 4: Don't start with me. No one's safe in this room.
- 32:29Speaker 2: She is a dry.
- 32:31Speaker 5: What Jessica, Jessica raw dog cerealso not obvious.
- 32:40Speaker 4: My hands.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Dry not all. You can't do it.
- 32:45Speaker 4: You can't do it all cereals, Like, there is a
- 32:47Speaker 4: select few cereals that taste better dry rice bubbles, but I.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Would never use a spoon. You use your hands into
- 32:58Speaker 2: a chick. It's not a chip. Yeah, they're like tiny.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you goop up a handful of snacks. That's true.
- 33:07Speaker 4: That's the good point with.
- 33:09Speaker 2: The bag, and you like get all, you like pour it,
- 33:11Speaker 2: Like what were you missing here?
- 33:13Speaker 6: Is?
- 33:13Speaker 2: She said, rice bubbles the most blend of cereals. That
- 33:18Speaker 2: really good.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Lucky charms also delicious.
- 33:23Speaker 2: I love it Lucky okay, but they're mini marshmallows. So
- 33:27Speaker 2: she was eating dry cereal every morning.
- 33:30Speaker 4: And the victory would make my cereal and make my cereal.
- 33:36Speaker 2: And I was like breakfast in bed baby that it
- 33:39Speaker 2: was actually really good. And then America again everything is
- 33:43Speaker 2: made for convenience. We bore what did we buy those?
- 33:46Speaker 2: Like uncrustable sandwiches. Love those un crustable sandwiches are my
- 33:51Speaker 2: favorite thing in the entire world.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Crustable sandwich.
- 33:54Speaker 2: It is exactly what you think it is. It's not
- 33:57Speaker 2: a sandwich without a crust.
- 33:59Speaker 6: Cool.
- 34:00Speaker 2: It's like they made a white bread sandwich with peanut
- 34:02Speaker 2: butter and jelly, and then they got around cookie cutter
- 34:05Speaker 2: and cut the middle out.
- 34:06Speaker 4: And then they gave the great idea and your m
- 34:09Speaker 4: ands is really good. They do a lot of little
- 34:11Speaker 4: pre done you can do like a apples and peanut butter,
- 34:15Speaker 4: or they do these really yummy cuoses that come with
- 34:18Speaker 4: their own little sauce. Like there's lots of things that
- 34:19Speaker 4: you can get that will cost you very little money
- 34:22Speaker 4: that if you stash them in your hotel fridge.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I feel like this lunch is done leading us into
- 34:26Speaker 2: another like Victoria and Jess travel hacks, because we, honestly,
- 34:30Speaker 2: I would think every time we've traveled, when we've done America,
- 34:34Speaker 2: we've done a lot of Europe, we did the UK,
- 34:37Speaker 2: we go into America again this year for another conference.
- 34:40Speaker 2: I would say that the most money we spend on
- 34:42Speaker 2: food is definitely dinner, Like we'll go out for a
- 34:45Speaker 2: nice dinner and have a nice dinner, but we're very
- 34:47Speaker 2: likely to eat our breakfast in our rooms before we go,
- 34:50Speaker 2: carry snacks and maybe go and just do convenience lunches. Yeah,
- 34:54Speaker 2: like somewhere cheap, like we're not dining out for lunch.
- 34:58Speaker 2: It's or like is it five bucks? Yep, that's a
- 35:00Speaker 2: good deal.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Yeah, you can do it cheap. And so you like
- 35:02Speaker 4: as to get bring back around to the point like
- 35:05Speaker 4: you can do it really affordably, I think. But it's
- 35:07Speaker 4: again it's about finding someone who's happy to do the
- 35:10Speaker 4: same thing as you. Because if I was like no, no, no,
- 35:12Speaker 4: like I want to go to the Riots for breakfast
- 35:15Speaker 4: every morning and have something really fancy, and Victoria's like,
- 35:17Speaker 4: oh well, I really want my one dollar uncrustable, So
- 35:20Speaker 4: I do do either we go okay, great, we go
- 35:23Speaker 4: to our own things, or someone's going to have to
- 35:26Speaker 4: compromise or it's not true work.
- 35:27Speaker 2: But it's all about communication, right, And I think it's
- 35:29Speaker 2: also about the experience that you make it like having
- 35:32Speaker 2: a quick lunch might not be for you, But the
- 35:35Speaker 2: way we made it was like, let's go to M
- 35:36Speaker 2: and S or let's go to the supermarket in France,
- 35:39Speaker 2: we went a board of bread and butter and I think, yeah, literally,
- 35:43Speaker 2: but we went and had a picnic and like did
- 35:45Speaker 2: like just little things like that where it's like, well,
- 35:47Speaker 2: how do we make this into an experience without upgrading
- 35:50Speaker 2: how much it costs? And I think just talking about
- 35:53Speaker 2: it and going, oh cool, Well, what area are we
- 35:55Speaker 2: going to be in? Oh, a quick lunch would make
- 35:58Speaker 2: sense because we're going from one venue to another, or oh,
- 36:02Speaker 2: we actually have a couple of hours. I don't want
- 36:04Speaker 2: to do a long lunch that would be expert. How
- 36:05Speaker 2: about we do a little picnic. We can go to
- 36:07Speaker 2: the supermarket and get a tump of homics and some dip.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Like we can actually make this a very cheap lunch.
- 36:13Speaker 2: That works out all right. So we did ask the community.
- 36:16Speaker 2: We said, have you had a similar experience when traveling
- 36:19Speaker 2: with a friend? Fifty five percent of you said yes,
- 36:22Speaker 2: And we said, if yes, did it negatively impact your friendship?
- 36:26Speaker 2: Fifty eight percent said yes. Then we said, do you
- 36:30Speaker 2: think it's okay for the two friends to do things
- 36:32Speaker 2: without the third friend, and eighty six percent of you
- 36:35Speaker 2: said yes, absolutely. I just think it needs to be
- 36:38Speaker 2: well communicated. I don't think it's a bad thing to go, oh, well, Jess,
- 36:41Speaker 2: I really want to do X, Y and Z, like
- 36:44Speaker 2: if it's not in line with their values, like why
- 36:46Speaker 2: are you pushing it on them in every other circumstance
- 36:49Speaker 2: of your life? That is not acceptable from my perspective.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Why would it change when you're on holidays? If you feel.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Loved and cared for and secure in your friendship, and
- 36:59Speaker 5: you make someone feel secure in the friendship, then you
- 37:01Speaker 5: can go and.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Do And I think there's the right way to go
- 37:03Speaker 2: about communicating that. And that's why I go, let's strip
- 37:06Speaker 2: it back and actually go, well, what's our daily budget
- 37:08Speaker 2: and yours might be so wildly different. Were oh, that
- 37:11Speaker 2: is a bit different. So I've got one hundred dollars
- 37:14Speaker 2: a day and you might have eighty dollars a day.
- 37:16Speaker 2: That is the difference. And I think that there's a
- 37:18Speaker 2: really good conversation if we go all the way back
- 37:21Speaker 2: to the start. Whereas if what if Jess and I
- 37:23Speaker 2: have identified that you don't want to come beck, and
- 37:25Speaker 2: so we go oh maybe, Actually, Jess, do you really
- 37:28Speaker 2: want to go to this restaurant? All right, well, don't
- 37:29Speaker 2: mention it to Beck because you might feel bad. Then
- 37:31Speaker 2: it becomes this like secret and it becomes like, oh,
- 37:35Speaker 2: we really want to go, but we haven't told Beck,
- 37:37Speaker 2: and Beck, oh we don't know, do you know what
- 37:39Speaker 2: I mean? It becomes this awkward thing. How about we
- 37:41Speaker 2: just go all right, well, I really want to go
- 37:43Speaker 2: to these restaurants or do this thing or these are
- 37:45Speaker 2: my expectations. And as I said, we can work out
- 37:48Speaker 2: a time that works for everybody so that no one
- 37:50Speaker 2: feels left out or no one feels like we're being
- 37:53Speaker 2: a little bit sneaky. Back to the community, Basically, everybody
- 37:57Speaker 2: said the same thing. Do what you want is your why.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Someone else said, don't let someone else's money values override
- 38:03Speaker 2: your own. If this is important to you, go and
- 38:05Speaker 2: spend that money. Sis. Someone said, spend some days spreading
- 38:09Speaker 2: out and doing things that you really want to do.
- 38:11Speaker 2: It's your holiday, enjoy it. Someone else said, it's actually
- 38:14Speaker 2: really healthy to not spend twenty four seven with the
- 38:17Speaker 2: people you're traveling with.
- 38:18Speaker 4: Great points, that's very true.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we needed some space.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I think, yeah, well, you just spend so much time
- 38:25Speaker 4: with somebody and like you can have a lot of fun.
- 38:27Speaker 4: But you also, I think in our circumstance, particularly like
- 38:31Speaker 4: we lived together, we were eating together, we were working together,
- 38:35Speaker 4: like I mean, we live together on holiday not like normally,
- 38:37Speaker 4: but Jerry, like you spend so we probably should just
- 38:39Speaker 4: move in at this point, let's be honest. Yeah, but
- 38:42Speaker 4: no matter how good of a friends you are with somebody,
- 38:45Speaker 4: I think everybody needs a break at the point, right,
- 38:48Speaker 4: and doing separate activities is a great way to do that.
- 38:50Speaker 2: Yeah, someone said, and we did this a couple of times. Actually,
- 38:53Speaker 2: someone said we would split up for the day and
- 38:56Speaker 2: then come back for dinner together to share what we've
- 38:58Speaker 2: gotten up to. I love that. Isn't that cute? I
- 39:01Speaker 2: think that's really wholesome. Someone said, I paid for some
- 39:03Speaker 2: of the things I wasn't willing to compromise on. So
- 39:06Speaker 2: that's kind of good if you want to upgrade it
- 39:08Speaker 2: and be like beck, I don't want to go out
- 39:10Speaker 2: for dinner by myself. I'll pay for you. I still
- 39:13Speaker 2: get my experience. You come along. You're not stressed. I'm
- 39:16Speaker 2: not stressed. Everybody's happy. You call that the Victoria define special.
- 39:23Speaker 4: It's very loving and very generous.
- 39:25Speaker 2: I feel it attached, but also it's kind of like, ah, Jess,
- 39:28Speaker 2: I really want to do this, and you're like God,
- 39:30Speaker 2: I'm like I'll pay, and you're like, I mean.
- 39:33Speaker 4: I'm s sold.
- 39:35Speaker 2: All of a sudden, I'm very excited for this, Taylor Swift.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Someone said you don't need to do everything on holidays together.
- 39:44Speaker 2: This is a massive misconception. Make a list of events, compare,
- 39:47Speaker 2: and then organize. I think that's really good. And then
- 39:49Speaker 2: the last one I'm going to read out today says
- 39:51Speaker 2: my priority is open honest communication. Lay the cards on
- 39:55Speaker 2: the table and see what all your friends think. I
- 39:58Speaker 2: think that's a good place to leave it today, my friend.
- 40:00Speaker 2: And open honest communication is always the key.
- 40:03Speaker 4: Let's do travel themed broke tips one week.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yeah, good idea, people travel, great idea. Actually, let's see
- 40:09Speaker 2: that next week. Yeah all right, we will see you
- 40:13Speaker 2: next week, guys for a money diary, bright and early
- 40:16Speaker 2: on Monday till then it's my birthday and.
- 40:22Speaker 4: A week my.
