- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing

- 1:06Speaker 2: and today we celebrate you the incredible She's on the
- 1:08Speaker 2: Money community. Today we'll be sharing our favorite money wins.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We'll be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma, which
- 1:13Speaker 2: this week is all about keeping your clothes budget for
- 1:16Speaker 2: a big schedule of events by purchasing fast fashion and
- 1:19Speaker 2: we unpack something that you slim into our DMS about
- 1:21Speaker 2: this week. You asked how to get on the same
- 1:23Speaker 2: page with budget and throw away items when organizing a
- 1:25Speaker 2: hen's weekend with your besties. That sounds juicy?
- 1:29Speaker 4: It does, isn't that?
- 1:30Speaker 5: Jess?
- 1:30Speaker 2: How you going?
- 1:31Speaker 4: I'm good?
- 1:32Speaker 6: But today our team has doubled today and we have
- 1:35Speaker 6: not one, but two guests who are fellow podcasters, journalists
- 1:38Speaker 6: and of course twin Flames Sally McMullen and Alex Horrigan
- 1:42Speaker 6: aka the Two break Chicks. Welcome down, Welcome, I'm so excited.
- 1:48Speaker 6: We are so pomed to have you. I feel like
- 1:50Speaker 6: the vibes are good. The vibes are immaculate, as always,
- 1:53Speaker 6: overcomes some technical difficulties, and I think today's podcast is
- 1:56Speaker 6: going to be such a good one.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I think. So how's your week beans? Girls?
- 2:00Speaker 5: Been good? We were talking about it earlier and we
- 2:02Speaker 5: were saying, it was Sal's birthday yesterday and we went
- 2:05Speaker 5: and visited an animal shelter that I used to volunteer
- 2:08Speaker 5: at to try and help some of the animals.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Get It was a very advice. Yeah, celebrations.
- 2:13Speaker 5: We were just cuddling like kittens and bunnies. And however,
- 2:18Speaker 5: I was like this every day.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I was literally like, can we come do this once
- 2:21Speaker 2: a month? Honestly? And I was like sweet.
- 2:23Speaker 6: They would have been amazed too, to like get I
- 2:25Speaker 6: feel like you guys have such a big platform even
- 2:27Speaker 6: if a few people adopted pets off the back of that, Like,
- 2:30Speaker 6: what a big impact that you're having. What a special
- 2:32Speaker 6: way to spend your birthday. And it was so cute.
- 2:34Speaker 6: They put a video up on Instagram and TikTok. You
- 2:35Speaker 6: should go watch. It's freaking adorable.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, seriously, that's really cute. Did you guys get
- 2:40Speaker 2: up to anything else? What do we do? We had
- 2:42Speaker 2: coffee with whipped cream on it. That was yeah, and
- 2:44Speaker 2: we had bagels. Lovely, lovely. A good week overall, Jess,
- 2:48Speaker 2: how about you? Has a week been?
- 2:50Speaker 4: It's been good?
- 2:50Speaker 6: Nothing exciting to report really, where just plodding along.
- 2:54Speaker 4: It's getting cold. Not loving that.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I love that it's getting cold.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I'm so excited.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Like the air is like a bit crisper, and I'm like, oh, there's.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Nothing better than a crispy cold morning.
- 3:08Speaker 6: Okay, I'm so in the minority here, Like cold morning,
- 3:11Speaker 6: I don't want to get out of bed.
- 3:12Speaker 4: I just want to stay there.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Though I agree, like next week when it's cold in
- 3:17Speaker 5: the morning, I'll be like, behave this. This is terrible,
- 3:19Speaker 5: change my mind every two seconds. Yeah, exactly. We're a
- 3:22Speaker 5: big ball of contradictions.
- 3:26Speaker 4: How about you back, how's your week been.
- 3:28Speaker 2: My week's been really, really nice, just been chillin's, been
- 3:31Speaker 2: cruised and just been living life. I honestly haven't done
- 3:33Speaker 2: too much. I just got back from Sydney. My girlfriend
- 3:36Speaker 2: met my parents for the first time. So let's get
- 3:39Speaker 2: real serious. You gotta get real serious. But yeah, other
- 3:42Speaker 2: than that, nothing really, But I am keen to jump
- 3:45Speaker 2: straight into your muney wins slash losses.
- 3:48Speaker 6: All right, let me get into it, because I do, have,
- 3:50Speaker 6: of course, some goodies for you guys this week. Firstly,
- 3:53Speaker 6: I've got a money win from sus who said money win.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Found out that Shannon's cur insurance also do roadside assistance
- 3:59Speaker 6: and one payment can cover multiple cars on one policy
- 4:03Speaker 6: or price. This is my pro tip because my car
- 4:05Speaker 6: broke down recently and I don't have roadside assistance, but
- 4:08Speaker 6: my boyfriend does and you can.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Use it for multiple cars.
- 4:12Speaker 6: So if you live with somebody or if you have
- 4:14Speaker 6: a partner, see if their policy covers more than one
- 4:17Speaker 6: because then you don't have to pay for two, which
- 4:19Speaker 6: is a dream.
- 4:20Speaker 2: That is amazing. Where was that again?
- 4:23Speaker 6: Here? Take a little note next, I've got a money
- 4:27Speaker 6: in from Melissa who said we got married recently and
- 4:29Speaker 6: I bought way too much alcohol for the reception. The
- 4:32Speaker 6: bottle shop which we purchased them from. Let us return
- 4:35Speaker 6: what we didn't open. Eighteen hundred bucks back in her pocket.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Or eighteen hundred bucks is a lot of alcohols are
- 4:41Speaker 2: not drink.
- 4:41Speaker 6: That's so good that we were there, obviously. I've got
- 4:52Speaker 6: a money lost from Amber, who said I went to
- 4:54Speaker 6: cancel my Netflix subscription thinking I had a few more
- 4:56Speaker 6: days until the next billing cycle, only to find out
- 4:59Speaker 6: that the billing cycle had started that day and I
- 5:01Speaker 6: had to pay for another month.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Hate that sucks.
- 5:05Speaker 5: Note them down, you're not canceled and then it just
- 5:07Speaker 5: doesn't renew the next month or doesn't cancel. When you cancel,
- 5:11Speaker 5: I think it may be already debited or probe.
- 5:14Speaker 4: Sometimes they have like a you got to give us
- 5:15Speaker 4: twenty four hours notice or whatever. Yeah, I know that suck.
- 5:21Speaker 5: The thing that I like about like iTunes, for example,
- 5:24Speaker 5: is if you subscribe to something through iTunes, you can
- 5:26Speaker 5: go into that app and then like unsubscribed, but it'll
- 5:30Speaker 5: take you to the expiry date, so you don't have
- 5:32Speaker 5: to remember when it's gonna, you know, rebill you just
- 5:36Speaker 5: like this will expire on the twenty seventh of April
- 5:38Speaker 5: next tunning.
- 5:39Speaker 4: It's all in one place. It's easy.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Some places like will cancel the same day and refund you,
- 5:45Speaker 2: which is ideal. I don't think Netflix is going to
- 5:47Speaker 2: do that though.
- 5:48Speaker 6: I can't imagine Netflix taking because I've got a money
- 5:53Speaker 6: in from Ayisha Hu said money win. I've been listing
- 5:55Speaker 6: our unused items on Facebook Marketplace and in the last
- 5:58Speaker 6: week I've made twelve hundred fifty dollars on stuff that
- 6:01Speaker 6: wasn't being used.
- 6:03Speaker 2: That's so good.
- 6:03Speaker 4: There's what's that statistic?
- 6:05Speaker 6: Everybody has like six hundred dollars worth of stuff in
- 6:07Speaker 6: their house and that they're not using that could be sold,
- 6:10Speaker 6: which I think is super interesting.
- 6:11Speaker 5: I believe I reckon My parents are probably like a
- 6:14Speaker 5: gold mine. Rember that thing when like all the Disney
- 6:19Speaker 5: VCRs went viral and I was that, mom, yeah, give.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Me the videos. It's giving Antiques Roadshow.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 6:25Speaker 6: I loved Antiques Roadshow when I was home sick as
- 6:28Speaker 6: a kid, buy a little antiques roadshow that's sent in
- 6:30Speaker 6: the afternoon.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Incredible.
- 6:32Speaker 6: And lastly, this week, I've got a money win from Claire,
- 6:35Speaker 6: who said, my boyfriend and I have been craving a
- 6:37Speaker 6: Southeast Asia getaway and I just found out I'm going
- 6:40Speaker 6: to be sent to Thailand for work in a few weeks.
- 6:43Speaker 6: So we really only need to sort some extra accommodation
- 6:45Speaker 6: his flights and some sightseeing costs.
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's so good, love it.
- 6:49Speaker 4: That's cut very exciting.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Now we have been saying to anybody coming on the show,
- 6:53Speaker 6: we'd love for you to join in. So I was wondering,
- 6:55Speaker 6: do you gals happen to have a money win or
- 6:58Speaker 6: a money lost to share with?
- 6:59Speaker 4: Everybody?
- 7:00Speaker 5: Got boths?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Yeah, we've got bothes. Should I start with the win?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Let's start with a loss so we can end on
- 7:04Speaker 2: a whim. Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Okay, So this was very fresh, this was very recent.
- 7:09Speaker 2: There were tears. Oh no, what I'm gonna say.
- 7:14Speaker 4: I was like, I didn't know you were going to
- 7:15Speaker 4: share this.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm so excited, which is like, and our show
- 7:19Speaker 5: is all about life lessons, so there is a life
- 7:22Speaker 5: lesson at the end of this. But sal and I
- 7:25Speaker 5: booked Hawaii flights during one of their like really good
- 7:29Speaker 5: sales earlier this year, and then when we went to
- 7:31Speaker 5: book our accommodation, it was also during a week that
- 7:34Speaker 5: was like it was boxing days, so we were a
- 7:36Speaker 5: bit tired from doing like sail recaps.
- 7:38Speaker 2: We'd also just launched planners.
- 7:40Speaker 5: It was just a big week, right, So I was
- 7:42Speaker 5: a bit sleepy, bit tired, and I was also excited
- 7:45Speaker 5: to be booking a commodation.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I was like, let's go babbablah.
- 7:48Speaker 5: And the way that my brain works when i'm excited,
- 7:50Speaker 5: I'm just like a bit of a million miles an hour.
- 7:52Speaker 5: And I was kind of rushing, but not because I
- 7:53Speaker 5: wanted to get it done, but I was like, yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 5: let's book accommodation.
- 7:56Speaker 2: And so we're going in May.
- 7:58Speaker 5: And then on the weekend, I got a notification on
- 8:02Speaker 5: an email that I was like, what why is this
- 8:04Speaker 5: email getting emails because it's not one that I use anymore,
- 8:07Speaker 5: and it was like rate you'll stay at the hotel
- 8:10Speaker 5: wed booked, and I was like what rate? My say,
- 8:13Speaker 5: what are you talking about? I was like, you silly goose.
- 8:16Speaker 5: I open it and it's the exact dates that were
- 8:19Speaker 5: going in May, but in.
- 8:20Speaker 2: March, oh much.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Not May, because I am an idiot, and I was like,
- 8:26Speaker 5: the way my tummy dropped, I was like, oh my gosh.
- 8:30Speaker 5: And like Hawaii accommodation is definitely towards like the higher
- 8:34Speaker 5: higher of the spectrum, Like the flights were very affordable,
- 8:37Speaker 5: but the accommodation was definitely where we were. It was oh,
- 8:43Speaker 5: and I just felt sick and I just called down
- 8:46Speaker 5: and I was crying my eyes out and I was like.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I'm just wasting all this money. And then so I
- 8:51Speaker 2: was like it's okay, I'm not mad at you don't
- 8:53Speaker 2: worry and.
- 8:54Speaker 4: That's a good friend.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Oh my god, I know.
- 8:57Speaker 5: I was like, thank you so much, like you definitely
- 8:59Speaker 5: could have annoyed if you wanted to be.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And then anyway, I.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Called the hotel and they were like, it's okay. You
- 9:06Speaker 5: got charged a no show fee, which is only the
- 9:08Speaker 5: one night rather than six nights, which was a lot better,
- 9:13Speaker 5: but it was still a couple one hundred dollars, which
- 9:17Speaker 5: I was like, I have learnt a veriable lesson that
- 9:20Speaker 5: I will be double checking not only dates, but the email,
- 9:24Speaker 5: like the contact email, because I would have picked up
- 9:27Speaker 5: on it so much more. But for some reason, you
- 9:29Speaker 5: know how you know Chrome and Google can like automatically
- 9:32Speaker 5: load an email. It had automatically loaded some rogue email
- 9:36Speaker 5: from years ago that I was like, Oh, it was
- 9:39Speaker 5: like an old world like Club sixty seven, like the
- 9:48Speaker 5: most random one that you would never pick.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that one.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Yeah really, And you're embarrassed when you're on the phone
- 9:54Speaker 6: to the person and like what email is the booking
- 9:56Speaker 6: under and you're like, oh, it's horse Girl.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 2: And it was just as well.
- 10:02Speaker 5: I think she was so nice, which was great because
- 10:04Speaker 5: I think she could tell that I was like, and
- 10:06Speaker 5: I booked it on and I was like, I know
- 10:11Speaker 5: that there's probably so many people that have done that,
- 10:14Speaker 5: but there's probably so many people who have booked holidays
- 10:17Speaker 5: that I just want everyone to go and recheck the
- 10:19Speaker 5: dates and details and don't do what I did.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Oh my goodness.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Whenever I book anything with anyone to travel, I always
- 10:26Speaker 6: make sure that I forward the email to everyone going,
- 10:29Speaker 6: because I go it's a group responsibility because you've all
- 10:32Speaker 6: also seen the email. So if I have stuffed something
- 10:35Speaker 6: up when I booked it, you have a chance.
- 10:36Speaker 4: To catch it.
- 10:42Speaker 2: You didn't see it either, Yeah, plod.
- 10:45Speaker 4: And ability our fault group.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, it's the group's exactly exactly exactly.
- 10:52Speaker 6: Lesson learned. It sounds like, what's the wind to bring
- 10:55Speaker 6: it back up?
- 10:56Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. We'll finish on a high.
- 10:58Speaker 5: So Al and I both huge fans of cash back
- 11:02Speaker 5: because we're both big shoppers, but we also love to
- 11:05Speaker 5: like either save money or get money back whenever we can. Really,
- 11:10Speaker 5: this goes for any cash back service that you like
- 11:12Speaker 5: to use. And I've been using it for maybe the
- 11:15Speaker 5: last year or so and I haven't ever withdrawn any
- 11:18Speaker 5: of the money. And I had a goal that I
- 11:21Speaker 5: wouldn't touch it until I'd gotten five hundred dollars cash
- 11:25Speaker 5: back saved. And I'm almost there. I'm at like four
- 11:30Speaker 5: hundred and seventy something, and it's largely because my local
- 11:36Speaker 5: cafe does cash back. I buy coffee every single day,
- 11:42Speaker 5: which is my toxic trait, which I know, but I've
- 11:45Speaker 5: like factored that into my budget. But now I'm like,
- 11:48Speaker 5: I'm going to get five hundred dollars back just from
- 11:50Speaker 5: your coffee, just from my coffee, which was an expense
- 11:53Speaker 5: I was already going to do exactly, No, I'm going
- 11:57Speaker 5: to buy something stupid. Yes, good good, like i'maly gonna
- 12:01Speaker 5: withdraw and like yeah by like a treat.
- 12:03Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, that's incredible. And it just adds up so quick, really,
- 12:08Speaker 6: doesn't it. We stand up?
- 12:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I couldn't believe it. I want to know what
- 12:12Speaker 2: stand means well, because we don't have time. We don't
- 12:16Speaker 2: have time maybe off air, but maybe one day I'll
- 12:18Speaker 2: feel that out. Okay, So next up, we're going to
- 12:21Speaker 2: go through some broke tips, and I know that you
- 12:23Speaker 2: girls came with one each, which I'm very excited about.
- 12:25Speaker 2: So I'm just going to share one from the community
- 12:27Speaker 2: and then we'll get to yours. So my first and
- 12:30Speaker 2: only broke tip for this week comes from Alyssa, who
- 12:33Speaker 2: says that she posted to a local buy nothing page
- 12:35Speaker 2: to borrow a steamer, and one lovely lady obliged, and
- 12:38Speaker 2: today she steamed her whole house a return to Wednesday morning.
- 12:42Speaker 2: So basically her tip is to just go into your
- 12:45Speaker 2: local community pages on Facebook or marketplace or wherever, and
- 12:49Speaker 2: literally you don't have to go to like Bunnings, like
- 12:51Speaker 2: borrow like a carpet cleaner. You know, when you're going
- 12:53Speaker 2: to move out of a house, you need to full
- 12:55Speaker 2: lease clean. Just asking the question and seeing what's out
- 12:58Speaker 2: there in your community pages, seeing if you can just
- 13:00Speaker 2: borrow something, even if it's something as small as like
- 13:02Speaker 2: a mop for a broom or a dustpan, just borrow,
- 13:05Speaker 2: see what you can borrow, and just kind of like
- 13:07Speaker 2: create a little kind of similar to what you were saying,
- 13:09Speaker 2: just like ages ago, just creating this like kind of
- 13:12Speaker 2: like swap and sell sort of community vibe. That way,
- 13:16Speaker 2: you almost never have to spend money on just those
- 13:20Speaker 2: little things, you know, like cleaning products and stuff like that.
- 13:22Speaker 2: So I just think that's a really great idea. Jump
- 13:23Speaker 2: onto community pages and just put the word out there
- 13:26Speaker 2: before you spend money, because they can be very very pricey. Okay,
- 13:30Speaker 2: sal and l can we grab yours? Of course? Do
- 13:33Speaker 2: you want to kick off sound?
- 13:35Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 13:35Speaker 2: Sure, so over at two Broke Chicks.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Oh my god, I reckon, we're gonna add the same one,
- 13:41Speaker 5: do you think I I don't think so, okay, but maybe.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 13:44Speaker 5: My brain just tingled a bit. We like joined telepathically.
- 13:49Speaker 4: It's the twin flame thing.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Sometimes we won't play and stuff and then.
- 13:54Speaker 5: I'm like, oh wait, And a lot of the time
- 13:56Speaker 5: we do because otherwise we'll come prepared with the exact
- 13:58Speaker 5: same respect I know I've find now I feel fine, say, okay,
- 14:01Speaker 5: we're good. But you know, at two Broke Chicks, we
- 14:06Speaker 5: love to provide tips for all different types of savers
- 14:10Speaker 5: and budgeters and shoppers because we know that, like, nobody
- 14:13Speaker 5: has the same money mindset. But I think for us,
- 14:17Speaker 5: when we're talking about savings goals, a lot of people
- 14:21Speaker 5: are like, I can't save five thousand dollars in a year.
- 14:24Speaker 5: That's you know, too much, especially with the cost of
- 14:26Speaker 5: living crisis and everything, which I definitely think is a
- 14:29Speaker 5: valid concern and is something that throughout pretty much all
- 14:33Speaker 5: of my twenties was something that I thought, and it's
- 14:36Speaker 5: because I was never breaking it down day by day.
- 14:39Speaker 5: I was always looking at it maybe monthly, and I
- 14:41Speaker 5: was like, I can't afford to squirrel away hundreds of
- 14:44Speaker 5: dollars a month, Like it's just not going to happen.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I never have that money at the end of the month.
- 14:49Speaker 5: But so my tip, my Broke Chick tip for today,
- 14:54Speaker 5: is that you can start small and it only takes
- 14:58Speaker 5: thirteen dollars and set any cents per day to add
- 15:02Speaker 5: up to five thousand dollars per year. Yeah, and like
- 15:07Speaker 5: think about how many times you walk out your front
- 15:09Speaker 5: door and you literally bend down to tie your shoe
- 15:13Speaker 5: and you all have a sudden spend literally yeah seriously
- 15:18Speaker 5: speaking of buying the coffees every morning. So I think
- 15:21Speaker 5: either you can set up the automatic transfer or you
- 15:24Speaker 5: can build that habit and do it every single morning
- 15:26Speaker 5: when you're having a coffee or when you're having a brecky.
- 15:29Speaker 5: And by the end of the five thousand dollars, that
- 15:31Speaker 5: is a lot of money.
- 15:32Speaker 6: That's heaps of cash that you could put something good.
- 15:34Speaker 6: You could put it Christmas, you could spend it on
- 15:37Speaker 6: the holiday treat yourself.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Yeah, Obviously that also comes down to expendable income, like
- 15:42Speaker 5: you have.
- 15:42Speaker 2: To have like that thirteen seventy a day. But that's
- 15:47Speaker 2: the thing.
- 15:47Speaker 5: You can kind of cater it towards whatever the goal is,
- 15:50Speaker 5: even if it's a dollar a day and then you
- 15:52Speaker 5: end up with, you know, over three hundred and sixty dollars,
- 15:56Speaker 5: It all adds up business presence down for yourself. My
- 16:04Speaker 5: money tip at the moment is I'm really trying to
- 16:07Speaker 5: embrace saving on money that I'm already spending, Like on
- 16:11Speaker 5: money that's already kind of happening to be spent leaving
- 16:14Speaker 5: my account as part of process of life. And I
- 16:18Speaker 5: love saving, but I also want to live my life
- 16:21Speaker 5: like I'm in my twenties. I want to have fun,
- 16:24Speaker 5: Like I want to be able to go out and
- 16:25Speaker 5: experiencings as much as I want to do that.
- 16:28Speaker 2: So if I want to go out.
- 16:30Speaker 5: To dinners and I want to do that, I want
- 16:31Speaker 5: to get.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Some cockie teas. That's cocktails for anyone that speaks normal.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I'm playing at home.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I was thinking something very different.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Yeah, look that's great too. But and so what I've
- 16:45Speaker 5: been doing is using a lot of apps, whether that's beauty.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Fashion or groceries.
- 16:49Speaker 5: Another one which has been sent into us by one
- 16:52Speaker 5: of our audience members was first Table, where you save
- 16:57Speaker 5: a certain discount or percentage on your meat by booking
- 17:00Speaker 5: an earlier time slot.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Another Yeah, it's cool.
- 17:04Speaker 5: So if you eat maybe that like five, five thirty
- 17:07Speaker 5: or six, you save a certain percentage off your meal.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And I love an early dinner, so like that.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Yeah, if I'm gonna have a cocktail too, two cocktails,
- 17:16Speaker 5: I'm asleep by eight thirty.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, dam Like I'm good.
- 17:20Speaker 5: I'm having a little nat and I'm hungry by then yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 5: same eat club. Eat club will show you like discounts
- 17:27Speaker 5: for like takeaway and dining meals. And then another one
- 17:31Speaker 5: was just switching to a high interest savings account and
- 17:34Speaker 5: just making the money that's in my savings work harder
- 17:37Speaker 5: for me. And I don't hundred do anything like I
- 17:39Speaker 5: think there's so many little things that we can just
- 17:42Speaker 5: set up and just like set and forget that or
- 17:45Speaker 5: just incorporate into the habit in our spending that we're
- 17:48Speaker 5: going to save a little bit more. And it's basically
- 17:51Speaker 5: just me embracing like seventeen year old Alex who would
- 17:54Speaker 5: search for an hour for like a fifteen percent off
- 17:56Speaker 5: promo cope that was like I will get one. I
- 18:00Speaker 5: will say five dollars if my life depended on it.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's just like incorporated into my big girl,
- 18:06Speaker 2: grown up spending.
- 18:07Speaker 5: I love that because it's not about like restricting your spending.
- 18:09Speaker 5: It's about complimenting the spanker that you're already doing.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, good job, thanks awesome, those are so good. First table?
- 18:17Speaker 2: Was it is that?
- 18:17Speaker 7: What?
- 18:17Speaker 2: It's first table? Es table? Okay, I'm going to look
- 18:20Speaker 2: into that. Thank you much. All right, guys, let's go
- 18:22Speaker 2: to a quick break and on the other side, we're
- 18:24Speaker 2: going to be unpacking a money dilemma, which this week
- 18:26Speaker 2: is all about keeping your clothes budget for a big
- 18:28Speaker 2: schedule of events by purchasing fast fashion. And then we
- 18:31Speaker 2: unpack something that you slid into our dms about this week,
- 18:34Speaker 2: you asked how to get on the same page with
- 18:36Speaker 2: budget and throw away items when organizing a hen's weekend
- 18:39Speaker 2: with your besties. Don't go anywhere.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 18:47Speaker 4: money dilemma.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just

- 19:05Speaker 3: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 19:07Speaker 3: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 19:10Speaker 3: this week's money dilemma.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Hey, babes, love the pod.
- 19:14Speaker 7: I'm a single gal in my thirties on sixty K
- 19:17Speaker 7: before super All my friends are getting married this year
- 19:20Speaker 7: and having milestone birthdays. Everyone's already getting new expensive outfits
- 19:24Speaker 7: for these events and I'm freaking out. I can afford
- 19:27Speaker 7: to get what I need through fast fashion brands, but
- 19:29Speaker 7: I know they're not good.
- 19:31Speaker 2: What would you do interesting?
- 19:32Speaker 6: There's such a big debate around fast fashion, and the
- 19:36Speaker 6: one thing that I really want to articulate is, as
- 19:39Speaker 6: much as I think it is really important to consume
- 19:43Speaker 6: consciously the responsibility of ecological and impact, it should be
- 19:50Speaker 6: sitting with large corporations, not on an individual on the
- 19:54Speaker 6: level that people are current, like, yes, we all have
- 19:56Speaker 6: an individual responsibility to do the best that we can.
- 20:00Speaker 6: But also I think that there's been a bit of
- 20:02Speaker 6: a trend of demonizing people who shop fast fashioned brands,
- 20:06Speaker 6: and I think sometimes all you can afford is the
- 20:09Speaker 6: shirt from Kmart, and if you wear that shirt from
- 20:11Speaker 6: Kmart every day for you know, however many years, you're
- 20:16Speaker 6: still spending your money. Well, I think the issue is
- 20:20Speaker 6: the pressure that this girl is feeling maybe to wear
- 20:22Speaker 6: something different to one of these events every time re
- 20:25Speaker 6: wear your clothes. I think that that is so fine.
- 20:28Speaker 6: But I just really wanted to table at the start
- 20:30Speaker 6: of this because I feel very strongly about it. It
- 20:32Speaker 6: really frustrates me that we really are canceling people and
- 20:36Speaker 6: coming after people for doing things that might be within
- 20:40Speaker 6: their means, like not everybody can afford to buy the
- 20:43Speaker 6: super ethical, you know, well produced garments, and I understand
- 20:47Speaker 6: that that's the gold standard and that's what we all
- 20:49Speaker 6: really want to do, but it's just not attainable for everybody.
- 20:53Speaker 6: And I don't think that it's fair to be putting
- 20:55Speaker 6: pressure on individuals when really the problem is the conglomerates
- 20:58Speaker 6: that are producing these things unethically.
- 21:01Speaker 2: One not.
- 21:07Speaker 5: Have said it better, honestly, because I think there's two
- 21:11Speaker 5: reasons surrounding this. And the first one that I wrote
- 21:14Speaker 5: down was the most common reason is that.
- 21:16Speaker 2: People can't afford to spend more.
- 21:18Speaker 5: We're in a cost of living crisis, and we're vilifying
- 21:20Speaker 5: people for shopping within their means and we're in their budget.
- 21:23Speaker 5: And I do think there is the social stigma, society
- 21:26Speaker 5: stigma that has been pushed especially onto women, that we
- 21:29Speaker 5: have to always look different and be wearing something different,
- 21:32Speaker 5: especially for big events. And then the second one is
- 21:34Speaker 5: that fast fashion does tend to have more inclusive and
- 21:38Speaker 5: extensive size ranges, you know, that is often also another
- 21:42Speaker 5: reason why people are shopping fast fashion. There was A
- 21:45Speaker 5: really interesting article written in Fashion Journal by an Australian
- 21:48Speaker 5: model called it Jennifer at emmerely I'm.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Assuming I'm so sorry if I butchered that last name.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Unsustainable fashion's aversion to size inclusivity, and in her articles
- 21:59Speaker 5: she wrote sustainable fashion generally excludes women over a size twelve,
- 22:04Speaker 5: especially in Australia. She continued to say, for anyone above
- 22:07Speaker 5: a size sixteen, it's impossible to cut out fast fashion
- 22:10Speaker 5: completely because what else do you wear? And given that
- 22:13Speaker 5: the average size of an Australian woman is a fourteen
- 22:15Speaker 5: to sixteen, this kind of highlights the issue that even
- 22:19Speaker 5: if people want to, you know, shop more sustainably and
- 22:22Speaker 5: with a slower fashion brand, there's not as many options.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I do think this is slowly.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Improving and we're seeing, you know, more brands come out
- 22:30Speaker 5: with more exclusive size ranges. But this is also a
- 22:33Speaker 5: thing to take into consideration, that people actually can't find
- 22:36Speaker 5: the things to wear.
- 22:38Speaker 2: That's a really good point. I had not even thought
- 22:40Speaker 2: about that, even like, you know, I was going to
- 22:42Speaker 2: suggest like op shopping and things like that, but even
- 22:44Speaker 2: even then it can be really yeah hard to You
- 22:46Speaker 2: might see one thing you like and it's like way
- 22:48Speaker 2: too big or way too small for you. So it's
- 22:50Speaker 2: like even then it's not really always the best option
- 22:54Speaker 2: or always the you know option that's going to Yeah,
- 22:56Speaker 2: I guess take you of the line, But yeah, I
- 22:58Speaker 2: think it really is. I think just kind of taking
- 23:01Speaker 2: away that pressure of having to wear something new for
- 23:04Speaker 2: like big events, yet absolutely re wear your clothes.
- 23:08Speaker 5: I really think as well, Like, think about how many
- 23:10Speaker 5: times you have looked at someone at a wedding and thought, oh,
- 23:14Speaker 5: I've seen them wear.
- 23:15Speaker 2: That just before.
- 23:18Speaker 5: I've ever noticed when someone's worn something more than once.
- 23:21Speaker 5: So I do think it is completely in our own head,
- 23:25Speaker 5: but also it's what has been pushed on to us,
- 23:28Speaker 5: so you know, we always have to be fashionable and
- 23:30Speaker 5: on the newest trend and all that kind of stuff.
- 23:32Speaker 5: But as well, I saw a creator on TikTok called
- 23:36Speaker 5: brook Upden speaking about shopping your own wardrobe and she
- 23:40Speaker 5: said this quote in it, and I thought that was
- 23:42Speaker 5: so powerful, and she was like, are you bored of
- 23:45Speaker 5: your wardrobe or are you bored of how you style it? Yeah? Yeah,
- 23:49Speaker 5: I love that, Like if you can just tweak some
- 23:52Speaker 5: things on how you're styling things in your wardrobe, or
- 23:54Speaker 5: pair it differently. You're going to feel really really differently
- 23:57Speaker 5: about one piece of clothing and it'll completely change your
- 24:00Speaker 5: perspective on it. That's what I was going to say,
- 24:03Speaker 5: Like the power of accessories really can change up an
- 24:07Speaker 5: outfit or even the way that you do your makeup
- 24:09Speaker 5: or the way that you do your hair. If it's
- 24:11Speaker 5: for you know, a wedding or a big birthday or
- 24:14Speaker 5: something like, there are options for you to I suppose
- 24:17Speaker 5: customize the one outfit, Like we've all seen that episode
- 24:21Speaker 5: of The Simpsons and March has that like one pink
- 24:23Speaker 5: Chanel suit she like.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Tailor is it to be a billion different outfits? We
- 24:28Speaker 2: don't have to go that extreme. But she's so sad too,
- 24:31Speaker 2: But I love March. We have the same birthday, by
- 24:33Speaker 2: the way, do you that is amazing? Yeah?
- 24:36Speaker 5: Flex, But yeah, I do really think that you can
- 24:39Speaker 5: accessorize within your own wardrobe or if you do, you know,
- 24:44Speaker 5: want to perhaps just splurge on maybe a different pair
- 24:48Speaker 5: of shoes or jewelry. You don't have to have a
- 24:51Speaker 5: completely new outfit for every single event, because even if
- 24:55Speaker 5: you're shopping fast fashion, but you're buying a new outfit
- 24:59Speaker 5: for every single event that you have coming up in
- 25:01Speaker 5: the air that's going to add up.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so true.
- 25:05Speaker 6: There's other ways that you're in, like you have an
- 25:07Speaker 6: environmental impact in other ways as well. I think the
- 25:10Speaker 6: other thing i'd say is look into maybe swapping clothes
- 25:12Speaker 6: with your friends if you can. If everyone's buying stuff
- 25:14Speaker 6: for these events, it sounds like everyone's gonna have fancy stuff.
- 25:17Speaker 6: Maybe you can all do a trade and you can
- 25:18Speaker 6: wear each other's stuff, or you can rent things like,
- 25:21Speaker 6: there are other options as well. But I think, yeah,
- 25:24Speaker 6: I completely agree, it's it's about the pressure that we
- 25:28Speaker 6: feel to wear those things. I feel like that's the
- 25:30Speaker 6: bigger issue. Even though that wasn't really what the question
- 25:32Speaker 6: was asking.
- 25:33Speaker 5: It would be hard though, because you're probably in like
- 25:35Speaker 5: a group chat and you're seeing everyone sending you know, oh,
- 25:39Speaker 5: I'm thinking about this dress where I'm thinking about that,
- 25:42Speaker 5: and you would start having that oh I wasn't even
- 25:44Speaker 5: thinking you're buying anything new like that. You know, the
- 25:47Speaker 5: thought process that goes into your head. And that is
- 25:50Speaker 5: so fair enough. But I really love that point. Sal
- 25:53Speaker 5: and I swap clothes all the time, like and we're
- 25:56Speaker 5: lucky because.
- 25:57Speaker 2: We, you know, have very similar structure.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Obviously, if your friend's five nine and you're five to one,
- 26:02Speaker 5: it's gonna be a bit tricky. Sure, But if you
- 26:06Speaker 5: do have a friend that you can swell close with,
- 26:08Speaker 5: it's literally like having double the wardrobe.
- 26:10Speaker 6: It's great, it's the best one hundred percent. Yeah, all right,
- 26:13Speaker 6: should we get into the DM for this week?
- 26:15Speaker 4: Yes?
- 26:16Speaker 2: I am so excited. Okay, you guys are ready for
- 26:18Speaker 2: a juicy juicy DM.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Okay. So a listener read in and wrote, help. My
- 26:23Speaker 2: girls and I are organizing a Hen's weekend for our
- 26:25Speaker 2: best year, and there is a couple of things I'm
- 26:27Speaker 2: having problems with. Firstly, on the cost per person of
- 26:31Speaker 2: this hens. It's totaling three hundred and ninety dollars each
- 26:34Speaker 2: for bus hire, a stripper in brackets. I personally am
- 26:37Speaker 2: not a fan of alcohol, food, venue, hire, activities, etc.
- 26:41Speaker 2: It's way out of my budget. But they have ignored
- 26:44Speaker 2: this and made comments like, don't be a buzzkill, it's
- 26:46Speaker 2: for our friend, it's just what it costs. And secondly,
- 26:49Speaker 2: for costumes, games, et cetera. For the day, my friends
- 26:52Speaker 2: want to buy a whole bunch of cheap, single use,
- 26:55Speaker 2: throwaway stuff and it hurts my soul. To be honest,
- 26:57Speaker 2: I would rather we spend time making stuff, more money
- 27:00Speaker 2: on reusable stuff. I don't get it. They are happy
- 27:02Speaker 2: to spend loads of money on a strip up but
- 27:04Speaker 2: want to be cheap as with this, it totally doesn't
- 27:06Speaker 2: sit right with my values. I don't want to be
- 27:08Speaker 2: a down up, but I feel I need to put
- 27:10Speaker 2: my foot down. What would you do? We were talking
- 27:13Speaker 2: about this the other day.
- 27:15Speaker 5: This is so tough, and I feel like, as you're
- 27:18Speaker 5: going into your late twenties or thirties, this is absolutely
- 27:23Speaker 5: a conundrum that a lot of.
- 27:24Speaker 2: People are facing.
- 27:26Speaker 5: I think as well, because we unfortunately had, you know,
- 27:30Speaker 5: those years in lockdown and COVID. People are so excited
- 27:34Speaker 5: now for weddings, for baby showers and those monumental experiences
- 27:39Speaker 5: in their life that are such a big experience that
- 27:41Speaker 5: they want it to be really big.
- 27:43Speaker 2: They want it to be really amazing and memorable.
- 27:45Speaker 5: However, Sal and I always say that, like, your wedding
- 27:48Speaker 5: is so special and amazing and beautiful and stunning and
- 27:51Speaker 5: sparkly and gorgeous for you, Like I think sometimes we
- 27:56Speaker 5: don't understand that not everyone cares about your wedding. Is
- 28:00Speaker 5: much as you do, yes, which sounds really harsh, but
- 28:04Speaker 5: I think it's a really empathetic thing we need to
- 28:07Speaker 5: remember when doing this.
- 28:09Speaker 2: But it sounds like it's the friends as well.
- 28:12Speaker 5: It sounds like the friends that are putting the pressure
- 28:15Speaker 5: on into friends. Yeah, and that is a lot of
- 28:18Speaker 5: money to be, you know, putting towards a singular event
- 28:22Speaker 5: of a hen's night, especially like if it was aligned
- 28:26Speaker 5: with your values, you'd probably be like, okay, sure, yeah,
- 28:28Speaker 5: but it's not.
- 28:29Speaker 2: So it's very tricky.
- 28:30Speaker 5: And it's also just not not like, don't be calling
- 28:33Speaker 5: a friend a buzzkill now it kiss me off?
- 28:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, excuse me exactly.
- 28:38Speaker 5: Any content talking about money with friends is already really difficult,
- 28:43Speaker 5: even if it is for you know, something that perhaps
- 28:46Speaker 5: isn't as much of a milestone as like a bridal
- 28:49Speaker 5: shower or whatever. The event is a hen's weekend, even
- 28:53Speaker 5: if it's just going out for dinner. So I totally
- 28:55Speaker 5: understand where she's coming from. But I do think that
- 28:58Speaker 5: she should put her for down because even though yes,
- 29:03Speaker 5: it's a group effort, if she doesn't want to put
- 29:08Speaker 5: her money towards those things, I just don't think that
- 29:11Speaker 5: she should have to but you can always explain yourself
- 29:16Speaker 5: and provide an alternative. So we always say that if
- 29:19Speaker 5: this happens, you know you can say I'm so sorry,
- 29:23Speaker 5: I'm saving up for XYZ, or this doesn't fit into
- 29:27Speaker 5: my budget so I can't afford this. However, how about
- 29:32Speaker 5: we do x yzed here and come like prepared with
- 29:36Speaker 5: perhaps more affordable options so that you're not just being like, no, yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 5: I'm not going to do it, because especially it seems
- 29:43Speaker 5: like the friends are already going to be like, oh, well,
- 29:46Speaker 5: you're being a buzzkiller.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Why are you being a team player?
- 29:48Speaker 5: Or this is for your friend and making something that's
- 29:51Speaker 5: going to be a really special weekend for your friend.
- 29:54Speaker 5: I think if you come prepared with some more affordable
- 29:57Speaker 5: options or alternatives, then it isn't like you just be like, well,
- 30:00Speaker 5: I don't want to be involved in putting your hands up.
- 30:02Speaker 2: It's a little bit.
- 30:03Speaker 5: More proactive and shows that you still care about your
- 30:06Speaker 5: friend having a good time, and also isn't like putting
- 30:08Speaker 5: all of the responsibility on the other friends to come
- 30:11Speaker 5: up with a different option. I want to know the
- 30:13Speaker 5: boundary line lies, because like if you're a bridesmaid, is
- 30:18Speaker 5: that like expected of you because I've never been a
- 30:20Speaker 5: bridesmaid before either, so but then it because Hans as well.
- 30:24Speaker 5: It's like multiple people are invited. It's like hand just
- 30:27Speaker 5: like yeah, it's like sometimes it's more than just the
- 30:30Speaker 5: bridal party, right that, Like are you able to just
- 30:33Speaker 5: be like.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Sorry, I can't afford this at the.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Moment or my you know, monetary values lie elsewhere at
- 30:40Speaker 5: the moment, see you at the wedding.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Or is that a bit rogue?
- 30:44Speaker 6: I think you can dip out for sure. But I
- 30:46Speaker 6: think the hard thing here is there's also the ethical
- 30:49Speaker 6: element that they've put in their their message to us,
- 30:52Speaker 6: which is they don't want to necessarily contribute to the
- 30:54Speaker 6: stripart because it's not something that's morally aligned to them,
- 30:57Speaker 6: which is fine, but then they would be happy to
- 31:00Speaker 6: more money on reusable cutlery and decorations and things like
- 31:04Speaker 6: that rather than disposable So I think that also might
- 31:07Speaker 6: be a bit of a confusing message to try to
- 31:10Speaker 6: convey to somebody, because if you, I think it's one
- 31:12Speaker 6: thing to say, hey, guys, not in the budget right now,
- 31:14Speaker 6: like I'll just meet you guys at the club, and
- 31:16Speaker 6: you know, I'll buy my drinks and i'll still be there,
- 31:18Speaker 6: but that's you know, an affordable way for me to
- 31:20Speaker 6: do it versus I guess the moral dilemma here is, well,
- 31:24Speaker 6: I don't want to pay for things that don't align
- 31:26Speaker 6: to my values, but I do want to pay for
- 31:27Speaker 6: things that do. And I feel like that's really hard
- 31:29Speaker 6: to manage in a group setting.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, Yeah, I completely agree. I'm also thinking, like,
- 31:34Speaker 2: my god, she's spending like three hundred and nine dollars
- 31:36Speaker 2: on the Hens, and then you've also got to like
- 31:38Speaker 2: pay for a wedding gift. I assume if you're like
- 31:40Speaker 2: I'm assuming, if you're being in viarted to the Hens,
- 31:42Speaker 2: you're close enough to the person to have to spend
- 31:44Speaker 2: like a a hextic amount of money and then, like
- 31:48Speaker 2: exactly as our message from before, our money dilemma, probably
- 31:52Speaker 2: a new outfit of some kind. Like I just feel
- 31:54Speaker 2: like this is really adding up costume she said, costumes
- 31:57Speaker 2: exactly exactly.
- 31:58Speaker 5: Where even is it an uber charged? Do you have
- 32:01Speaker 5: to drive somewhere? I get accommodation? Do you have to
- 32:04Speaker 5: get flights?
- 32:04Speaker 2: Like? Yeah, all of this adds up exactly, and I
- 32:07Speaker 2: know this is like extremely unhelpful for the person riding
- 32:10Speaker 2: in but I think that the problem.
- 32:11Speaker 5: She's like, thanks, guys, She's like, so I feel great.
- 32:16Speaker 4: So good.
- 32:17Speaker 2: None of that was useful, and I'm really sorry for
- 32:20Speaker 2: to our listener, but I think that they've been issue
- 32:22Speaker 2: really is just like that people expect so much, like
- 32:26Speaker 2: if I'm not choosing to get married, if I'm not
- 32:28Speaker 2: getting married, if I'm nowhere near getting married, and one
- 32:31Speaker 2: of my good friends is I kind of get anxious.
- 32:34Speaker 2: I don't want to feel anxious. I want to feel excited,
- 32:36Speaker 2: but I'm like, good, how much is this going to
- 32:39Speaker 2: cost to me? And that's a really bad way to be.
- 32:42Speaker 2: But unfortunately we've kind of found ourselves in this place
- 32:44Speaker 2: where like, yeah, you can have to spend at least, like,
- 32:46Speaker 2: you know, eighty bucks ahead for a banquet or something
- 32:49Speaker 2: at a Hens, and then you've got your engagement party,
- 32:51Speaker 2: and then you've got your wedding, and maybe you've got
- 32:53Speaker 2: a kid's first birthday at some point in the future.
- 32:56Speaker 2: But yeah, it just really really adds up. So I guess, yeah,
- 33:00Speaker 2: that's extremely unhelpful. What I'm saying to the listener is
- 33:03Speaker 2: change societal views. But I think putting your foot down
- 33:08Speaker 2: exactly as everyone else is saying, but just yeah, do
- 33:10Speaker 2: it in a way where you're explaining me you're coming from.
- 33:12Speaker 2: And if your friends it doesn't sound like what the
- 33:15Speaker 2: like kind of the listener who's written in sounds like
- 33:18Speaker 2: their friends aren't very supportive of their views and their
- 33:21Speaker 2: values with each other don't even align, and it's like,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I don't know, I would maybe just be not like
- 33:27Speaker 2: obviously ending friendships, but just like considering who you're close
- 33:30Speaker 2: to and who's like in your close circle. Because I
- 33:33Speaker 2: know that my friends and hopefully the same with everyone
- 33:35Speaker 2: else in this room, if I was to say, oh,
- 33:38Speaker 2: my values is don't align with this, they would absolutely
- 33:40Speaker 2: respect that without even a second thought, you know what
- 33:44Speaker 2: I mean. So yeah, maybe just like reevaluating those relationships
- 33:48Speaker 2: but still keeping you know, put your foot down, absolutely
- 33:51Speaker 2: hold true to that.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Has some boundaries, I think, yeah, and good friendships will
- 33:55Speaker 5: always respect boundaries.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, exactly. So let's see what the community had
- 33:59Speaker 2: to say. So first we asked have you been to
- 34:02Speaker 2: a Hen's party before? Eighty four percent of you said
- 34:05Speaker 2: yes and sixteen percent of you said no. And then
- 34:08Speaker 2: we asked, if yes, how should it cost to attend
- 34:11Speaker 2: the event? Thirty six percent of you said between fifty
- 34:14Speaker 2: to one hundred and fifty, another thirty six percent said
- 34:17Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty to two hundred and fifty, fifteen
- 34:20Speaker 2: percent of you said two hundred and fifty to three
- 34:23Speaker 2: hundred and fifty, and thirteen percent of you said three
- 34:26Speaker 2: hundred and fifty to five hundred fifty. I'm talking dollars.
- 34:28Speaker 2: By the way, how a mention that that's a hectic
- 34:31Speaker 2: amount of money.
- 34:31Speaker 6: We also had a bunch of people DM and say
- 34:33Speaker 6: they spent over one thousand dollars, which is god insane
- 34:37Speaker 6: to me.
- 34:37Speaker 5: I can say that if it's a weekend away, oh yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 5: that easily can add up to over one thousand dollars.
- 34:43Speaker 6: On a HENS, which, like I get is fun and
- 34:45Speaker 6: especially important, but like, to me, that's so not worth it.
- 34:48Speaker 2: You're doing that.
- 34:49Speaker 5: If you're wanting your hends to be a destination thing,
- 34:52Speaker 5: you need to allow your friends to say no, yeah,
- 34:56Speaker 5: to be like, this is so optional, this is just
- 34:59Speaker 5: what I want to do.
- 35:01Speaker 2: You do not have to do this and like really.
- 35:04Speaker 5: And not be like, because we will get messages like
- 35:06Speaker 5: this being like and she didn't come to my hens
- 35:09Speaker 5: in Barcelona two thousand dollars flights, and we're like, come.
- 35:13Speaker 6: On, come on, there's like a point where if you
- 35:17Speaker 6: want to be that bougie, I think there's a responsibility
- 35:19Speaker 6: on you to like to cover some of the cost,
- 35:23Speaker 6: Like Jery, Like, I've been to one hens.
- 35:25Speaker 4: It was Victoria's, and I don't think I paid for
- 35:28Speaker 4: anything the whole time. I mean, way to do it.
- 35:30Speaker 6: It was just sorted, which I know that not everyone's
- 35:32Speaker 6: in the position to do that, but I think, like,
- 35:33Speaker 6: if you're expecting people to do something really expensive, is
- 35:37Speaker 6: there a responsibility on you to make that easier for them?
- 35:40Speaker 2: I think so, yeah. And then we asked what would
- 35:43Speaker 2: be more important to you in this situation. Fifty five
- 35:46Speaker 2: percent of you said spending less and getting single use stuff,
- 35:49Speaker 2: and forty five percent of you said spending more in
- 35:52Speaker 2: getting reusable stuff. Interesting. Interesting. Then we asked, have you
- 35:56Speaker 2: ever had a friend not respect your budget and values
- 35:58Speaker 2: around spending? Seven percent of you said yes and thirty
- 36:02Speaker 2: three percent of you said no. And then we said,
- 36:05Speaker 2: tell us your two cents. So I'll just go through
- 36:07Speaker 2: a few of these. First, we had someone right, Hen's
- 36:10Speaker 2: parties are so overrated, just spend the money on the wedding,
- 36:12Speaker 2: which I kind of like, I don't know, I kind
- 36:16Speaker 2: of agree with this in this like really I don't
- 36:17Speaker 2: know old school way of thinking, Like did it come
- 36:20Speaker 2: from the idea that like you're only you're free for
- 36:24Speaker 2: it's like your last night of freedom.
- 36:26Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'll take any excuse to drink with the girls. Yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 5: But like it doesn't need to be a big thing,
- 36:32Speaker 5: but I will.
- 36:34Speaker 2: I would have a HEN tonight.
- 36:35Speaker 5: I'm not engaged, but my boyfriend's like slow down, Like
- 36:42Speaker 5: i'd be like.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yee, like I want to do that.
- 36:44Speaker 5: But I so I don't think it needs to be
- 36:46Speaker 5: this thing of like we don't need a hen totally.
- 36:49Speaker 5: It's up to what you want to do, because that's
- 36:50Speaker 5: a thing like whereas I don't particularly want to get married,
- 36:54Speaker 5: and if I decided to change my mind, I wouldn't
- 36:57Speaker 5: have a hens. Yeah, and Alex and I are best
- 36:59Speaker 5: friend and basically the same person. So even like two
- 37:02Speaker 5: people who are so close have very different views on
- 37:06Speaker 5: what they would want to do, Like, yeah, I think
- 37:08Speaker 5: it shows like that division.
- 37:10Speaker 4: You know, you either way and it just depends on
- 37:13Speaker 4: what you like.
- 37:13Speaker 6: But you're right, it doesn't have to be a big thing,
- 37:15Speaker 6: like you could just get the girls together at someone's house,
- 37:17Speaker 6: have some drinks, make some cheese platters, dance around track drunks.
- 37:22Speaker 6: I have it, you know what I mean. Like, it
- 37:24Speaker 6: doesn't need to be crazy. I think it's like the
- 37:26Speaker 6: social media world that we live in has really put
- 37:28Speaker 6: the pressure on for people to have this crazy instagram
- 37:31Speaker 6: worthy event.
- 37:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:33Speaker 2: I agree. No, it doesn't have to It can just
- 37:34Speaker 2: be like a little celebration. Just go to the to
- 37:37Speaker 2: the bar, whatever you want to do. Someone said, get
- 37:39Speaker 2: new friends, which I think in a.
- 37:44Speaker 4: We said that in a nice.
- 37:48Speaker 2: What you said, it's a real boiled down version of
- 37:51Speaker 2: what I say. I like it. It's honest. I like it.
- 37:55Speaker 2: You take it. Someone else said life is expensive these days.
- 37:58Speaker 2: I expect to pay five hundred dollars plus for Hen's weekends.
- 38:02Speaker 2: That's standard. Oh my goodness, I can't. I couldn't know
- 38:07Speaker 2: if I agree with that.
- 38:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:09Speaker 2: None, it's a lot of money. It is a lot
- 38:12Speaker 2: of money. Here's what are you getting out of it.
- 38:13Speaker 2: You've got your leaving the wedding, not married or anyway. Absolutely,
- 38:19Speaker 2: that's not always the best thing. But anyway, it's a
- 38:22Speaker 2: good time. It's an experience. Paying for an experience. Someone
- 38:24Speaker 2: else said, and this is probably more practical buy off
- 38:27Speaker 2: marketplace or sell the decorations after even single use. That's
- 38:30Speaker 2: very good advice, thank you. That's what my.
- 38:33Speaker 5: Question is going to be is with the reusable stuff,
- 38:36Speaker 5: what hens stuff would be reusable? That's actually a great question,
- 38:41Speaker 5: Like I'm not using.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Dick straws every day of the week.
- 38:44Speaker 5: You know, maybe things like if you were like decorating
- 38:49Speaker 5: the table, like table settings and decorating that stuff, you
- 38:53Speaker 5: could hire, I would say, or yeah, buy your Facebook marketplace,
- 38:57Speaker 5: or you could handmake a lot of those things, like
- 39:00Speaker 5: there are so many really cool tiktoks and things on
- 39:03Speaker 5: Pinterest that you can use for inspiration that are going
- 39:06Speaker 5: to be so much more aesthetic and also meaningful and
- 39:10Speaker 5: more affordable than going to a party shop and buying
- 39:13Speaker 5: a bunch of single use plastic.
- 39:15Speaker 2: If you want the dick straws, sure but surely we.
- 39:18Speaker 5: Can meet in the middle here and have like a
- 39:20Speaker 5: mix of handmade or borrowed or rented things and then
- 39:24Speaker 5: a couple of single use you know, cups and plates
- 39:27Speaker 5: and straws.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Yea.
- 39:28Speaker 6: Anything that you buy that's not single use you can
- 39:30Speaker 6: then sell on afterwards. Theoretically, as well.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, exactly. Okay, I'll finish off with this one.
- 39:36Speaker 2: So someone else wrote, sometimes we have to accept others
- 39:39Speaker 2: won't aligned to our values and we have to find
- 39:41Speaker 2: middle ground. Perfect. Yeah, I totally agree with that. I'm
- 39:44Speaker 2: sure there's even though it sounds like maybe the friends
- 39:46Speaker 2: aren't super willing to budge, there could be a middle
- 39:49Speaker 2: ground there, you just have to find it.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Absolutely awesome. Perfect. Well, thank you guys, so so so
