Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is brought to you by Working. It is not for the weak.
- 0:05Let's put my face on passports. The orange man.
- 0:09Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and maybe a laugh.
- 0:14I'm Lindsay Vernick and it's April 29th, 2026.
- 0:18Surprise! There's a Daily Starcast today. Who knew?
- 0:22I didn't know. Did you know? Well, honestly, I knew last night.
- 0:27Well, I just ended up having some time. I didn't actually really have some time,
- 0:31but I made the time to do this So there actually won't be a sarcast tomorrow,
- 0:36but there will definitely be one on friday It's actually gonna be a really fun special one.
- 0:41So make sure you tune in on friday for that And sorry if this one is a little chaotic and weird.
- 0:46I'm just like so tired But as my mom likes to
- 0:49remind me they all are weird in real
- 0:52news jimmy kimmel is refusing to apologize after
- 0:56melania and donald trump demanded abc fire
- 0:59him over a joke he made last week about melania looking
- 1:02like an expectant widow kimmel was like the joke was about their age gap duh
- 1:08and like she's visibly never happy whenever she's standing next to trump i was
- 1:14just pointing that out i wasn't calling for violence kimmel said he was genuinely
- 1:18sorry for the fear everyone at the dinner experienced,
- 1:21but he's not taking back what he said about Melania.
- 1:24Meanwhile, the FCC is now reportedly fast-tracking reviews of ABC's broadcast station licenses.
- 1:31It's not a direct investigation into Kimmel, but the timing feels less like a coincidence, though.
- 1:38Kind of reminds me of how one of the women who I most recently worked with,
- 1:42who I actually talked about on this podcast,
- 1:44was so mean to me, and she coincidentally just happened to remove me from the
- 1:49group chat after she went in for a hug with me when I was saying goodbye and
- 1:54I just waved at her instead.
- 1:56And speaking of the correspondence dinner, I know what you're thinking.
- 2:01There are so many unanswered questions. Like, what the hell happened to all
- 2:08of the dinners that were supposed to be served that night?
- 2:10There were around 2,600 meals that went unserved by the end of the night.
- 2:17Everyone got to the salad course, but the steak and lobster never made it to the tables.
- 2:23So in a very rare feel-good twist, the hotel freeze-dried the untouched steak
- 2:31and lobster meals and donated them to shelters for abused women and children
- 2:36in Virginia and Maryland.
- 2:37And then the remaining produce was composted.
- 2:40So while the entire night was
- 2:42a mess and went to waste, at least the food didn't end up in the trash.
- 2:46So now, somewhere out in the world, there are people in shelters eating White
- 2:51House Correspondents Dinner lobster, which honestly is probably the best thing
- 2:57that has happened in all of Trump's presidency.
- 3:00And in even more exciting news, Costco has finally innovated in the most Costco
- 3:06way possible by changing almost nothing.
- 3:10So as we all know, for 40 years, the $1.50 hot dog combo has been untouched.
- 3:17I mean, you have always been able to go to Costco and get that $1.50 hot dog, right?
- 3:24Even when everybody got smartphones and iPhones and streaming and the economy
- 3:29collapsed, Costco was like,
- 3:30you can still come here and get this disgusting thing for $1.50 with a fountain
- 3:37drink and just don't ask us any questions.
- 3:40And now, get this, you can swap the soda for a bottle of water.
- 3:46Like, how freaking crazy is that one?
- 3:50Honestly, it's smart. And sometimes you want to really want a hot dog.
- 3:55But sometimes you don't need to have a giant soda with it.
- 3:59And sometimes you just want to leave Costco feeling hydrated and better and not worse.
- 4:04Also, it's just so on brand that Costco didn't change the price of their hot dog.
- 4:09Those executives were probably like, while the rest of the world falls apart,
- 4:13we can't raise our hot dogs to $1.75.
- 4:18What would the world become then. I think between Iran and the president and
- 4:24everything else happening in the world,
- 4:26at least we know we can rely on our $1.50 Costco hot dog to still always be there for us.
- 4:34In Lindsay Life, yesterday I was filming down in the seaport,
- 4:38and if you don't know Manhattan very well, that's like the very,
- 4:42very, like, farthest you can go to the bottom of Manhattan.
- 4:46And work was over and it was time to go home, but I was like,
- 4:50shit, I don't know how to get home from here. I'm so far away.
- 4:54I've never been here before. I don't know how to get home. and all of my co-workers
- 5:00who are LA-based were like, don't you live here?
- 5:04And I was like, yeah, but I don't travel this far away. I don't go all the way
- 5:08to the seaport area of Fidei.
- 5:12This is like crazy for me.
- 5:14Anyway, so I made it home safe, clearly.
- 5:18Things I'm thinking about. How I very clearly
- 5:21more and more am realizing I need to be sleeping instead
- 5:24of doing this podcast right down cooking tip of
