- 0:56Speaker 3: their money, their life, all the fun bits in between. Victoria, Hey,
- 1:00Speaker 3: you going.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I'm very excited about this one.
- 1:03Speaker 3: It's a good one.
- 1:04Speaker 1: You keep saying that you and Analie keeping.
- 1:06Speaker 3: A very very good one.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Okay, Well you say that at the beginning of every
- 1:10Speaker 1: single money diary. I'm beginning to not like, there's no
- 1:14Speaker 1: reason to not trust you, but I'm starting to.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Go you're starting to not trust me though, No, not a.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Lack of trust. I'd just be like, Oh, she really
- 1:21Speaker 1: thinks everything is great.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Easy to please. No, this one's a little bit like
- 1:24Speaker 3: a movie. Let me tell you all about it like
- 1:25Speaker 3: a movie. Yeah, so, Adira said. After working as a
- 1:29Speaker 3: covert operative or undercover police officer, I was burnt out
- 1:33Speaker 3: and I took seven months leave without pay. While I
- 1:35Speaker 3: was working, I started my own business, creating a yearly
- 1:38Speaker 3: planner for women, focusing on goal setting, budgeting, and never
- 1:41Speaker 3: ever forgetting how brilliant and capable you truly are.
- 1:43Speaker 1: What a career pivot? Who just goes ohs? And under
- 1:46Speaker 1: cover cop? Now I want to make planners.
- 1:48Speaker 3: I know right. For my seven months off, I bought
- 1:50Speaker 3: a van and traveled around Australia whilst running my business
- 1:53Speaker 3: and since returning to work. I sold my business last
- 1:55Speaker 3: year for a profit. I have now started a new
- 1:57Speaker 3: business which is teaching women how to find a balance
- 1:59Speaker 3: and access in all areas of their life. I am
- 2:02Speaker 3: about to take long service leave six months and I
- 2:04Speaker 3: hope that I can properly follow my passion and not
- 2:06Speaker 3: have to return to work. It's been a tough few
- 2:08Speaker 3: years as a police officer.
- 2:10Speaker 1: What money diarist, Welcome to the show.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I told you I told you. I told you before
- 2:17Speaker 1: we started actually recording. You got on zoom and I
- 2:21Speaker 1: was like, you look like you'd be heaps of fun.
- 2:23Speaker 4: And you are, Oh, thank you.
- 2:25Speaker 1: How does that work? Oh my gosh, money dives. I
- 2:28Speaker 1: have so many questions, but Jess is going to kill
- 2:30Speaker 1: me if I don't leave them to the appropriate time
- 2:32Speaker 1: to ask them. So let's jump straight in money diarist.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I want to know a little bit about your money story.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I think that sort of like that background
- 2:42Speaker 4: gives a really good indicator about, you know, where my
- 2:46Speaker 4: passions lie. Money sort of only really became a focus
- 2:49Speaker 4: for me once I joined the police. Before that, I
- 2:53Speaker 4: really was a bit of a gypsy. I pretty much
- 2:55Speaker 4: spent all my money on travel, and then once I
- 2:58Speaker 4: sort of got my confirmation and join the police service,
- 3:02Speaker 4: it really just became about, Okay, what am I going
- 3:04Speaker 4: to do from here? Do I buy a house? Essentially,
- 3:07Speaker 4: I was like, I better calm down and you know,
- 3:10Speaker 4: start making some adult decisions.
- 3:13Speaker 1: You're a cop now, Yeah, I feel like adult decisions
- 3:15Speaker 1: are what cops should be making. I just feel like
- 3:18Speaker 1: that's a lot of responsibility. But at the end of
- 3:21Speaker 1: the day, you are people with careers. Who have incomes
- 3:23Speaker 1: who need to budget and cash flow as well. I'm shurek.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm so excited to learn more. All right, So we
- 3:29Speaker 1: know that you were what was it, an undercover operative?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Is that right?
- 3:34Speaker 4: Yeah? So that's just been a small chunk or small
- 3:37Speaker 4: portion of my experience within the police service. So I'm
- 3:41Speaker 4: just back in general duties now, just doing the regular So.
- 3:44Speaker 1: You're still a cop, and then you also have a
- 3:46Speaker 1: business on the side, Yes, I do, right, that makes sense.
- 3:51Speaker 4: I like to keep myself busy.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. All right, so that leads into the
- 3:55Speaker 1: question of what do you do for work officially and
- 3:58Speaker 1: how much money do you earn?
- 4:00Speaker 4: So, yeah, police officer, full time, I earn My last
- 4:04Speaker 4: year's taxil income was one hundred and two, so just
- 4:07Speaker 4: over one hundred and everything relating to my business now,
- 4:11Speaker 4: I don't pay myself a wage at the moment. It
- 4:13Speaker 4: is relatively new, so it's kind of all just going
- 4:15Speaker 4: back into keeping that going and growing it to the
- 4:18Speaker 4: point where I would love to be able to pay
- 4:20Speaker 4: myself and make it my full time thing.
- 4:22Speaker 1: That is genuinely so cool. It's interesting as well because
- 4:27Speaker 1: I have a friend who is also a cop with
- 4:30Speaker 1: a side business. They do lots of night shift, they
- 4:33Speaker 1: do a whole heap of work, and then they come
- 4:35Speaker 1: home and they run this business. And to be honest,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I hadn't really thought about that type of career as
- 4:40Speaker 1: the type of career that would enable you to have
- 4:42Speaker 1: a side hustle or a side business. How open is
- 4:45Speaker 1: the police force to you, you know, running a business
- 4:47Speaker 1: in your own time.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I think it's as long as it's not a conflict
- 4:50Speaker 4: of interest and it's not bringing them into you know, disrepute.
- 4:53Speaker 4: It's nothing that could be frowned upon. So I guess
- 4:56Speaker 4: like only fans is ruled out to say that.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But I was like, is this appropriate? No only fans
- 5:01Speaker 1: for you? No killer content? Right?
- 5:05Speaker 4: I'm sure. I listened to one of your episodes where
- 5:07Speaker 4: you spoke to someone.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Who makes BANGK on only fan Yes.
- 5:11Speaker 4: And I was like, so tempting. No. I love what
- 5:13Speaker 4: I do, so at the moment that's my biggest focus.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Yeah, airpic all right. I want to know what is
- 5:19Speaker 1: your big money goal.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I want to have my home loan, my mortgage paid
- 5:24Speaker 4: off in the next five years.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Oh that is a lofty goal. How are we tracking?
- 5:28Speaker 4: I'm halfway?
- 5:29Speaker 1: Who so Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 4: So I bought my apartment in twenty sixteen and have
- 5:35Speaker 4: just gone absolutely ham. I bought it for four point
- 5:37Speaker 4: fifty and I've paid just over two twenty five. Wow.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Congratulations, that's epic. Thank you, that is so epic. Al right,
- 5:45Speaker 1: next question, do you have any investments? If so, what
- 5:49Speaker 1: are they?
- 5:50Speaker 4: I do, so that unit has technically become an investment
- 5:53Speaker 4: for me. I'm currently renting it out and I also
- 5:56Speaker 4: started my investment journey with six Park last year.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, are you doing like straight six Park?
- 6:03Speaker 1: Or do she's on the money? Six Park?
- 6:04Speaker 4: She's on the money.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yes, Queen so esthetic.
- 6:07Speaker 3: We'll see you at our investor update this week.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Yeah, when are you coming to the investor update?
- 6:11Speaker 4: I got the email, but I haven't registered or anything yet.
- 6:14Speaker 4: I need to get onto Chop Chop.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'm running investor updates. We need to be there. We
- 6:18Speaker 1: are educated investors. I love that. That's so exciting. All right,
- 6:22Speaker 1: now to flip it. You did say you still have
- 6:24Speaker 1: some of your mortgage, so we know you have some debt.
- 6:26Speaker 1: But do you have debt? If so, how much that's it?
- 6:29Speaker 4: So? I've recently paid off my car. The rest of
- 6:33Speaker 4: my car loan, but that was using offset from my
- 6:35Speaker 4: home loan, so that sort of bumped back up a
- 6:38Speaker 4: little bit. But that technically makes my mortgage my only debt.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah, very cool, very cool. Next question is, my friend,
- 6:46Speaker 1: do you use shop back?
- 6:48Speaker 4: I don't. I don't, and purely because I don't really shop.
- 6:53Speaker 4: I'm such off your mortgage.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, if you're paying that much off your mortgage,
- 6:59Speaker 1: you don't have money to spend on shopping. I'm telling
- 7:02Speaker 1: you that right now. To be that aggressive, which is
- 7:04Speaker 1: very impressive, doesn't leave a lot of wigger room in
- 7:07Speaker 1: the budget, does it.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I don't really online shop, and if I
- 7:11Speaker 4: do ever treat myself, it's always with some sort of
- 7:14Speaker 4: discount code that I've found somewhere. You know it get
- 7:17Speaker 4: with me twenty or thirty percent off anyway. So it's
- 7:19Speaker 4: very rare that I have a paid full price for something.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That's a really good money habit. And that leads into
- 7:25Speaker 1: our next question, which is what's your best money habit.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I would say it's my budgeting and everything sort of
- 7:31Speaker 4: associated with that. I'm always constantly checking in making sure
- 7:36Speaker 4: that I'm sort of living within my means and I
- 7:38Speaker 4: have that extra money to put away for emergencies and
- 7:41Speaker 4: my savings and you know, moving forward with my money.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I think my biggest, I guess goal is to really
- 7:49Speaker 4: be financially free and financially independent and not have to
- 7:53Speaker 4: sort of rely on a job so I can follow
- 7:55Speaker 4: my passions. So that has been like a real driver
- 7:58Speaker 4: for me.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I love that. That's actually is so exciting. And it
- 8:01Speaker 1: always feel really bad bringing up the next question because
- 8:03Speaker 1: I feel like I'm taking the whole conversation down a notch.
- 8:05Speaker 3: But it's part of.
- 8:06Speaker 1: The show, you know, We've just got to do what
- 8:07Speaker 1: we've got to do. The next question is what's your
- 8:10Speaker 1: worst money have it in comparison?
- 8:12Speaker 4: I found this one hard, but I think if you
- 8:15Speaker 4: were to ask anyone that knows me, though, maybe say
- 8:18Speaker 4: it's that I'm a tied us.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Now that's a good money have it. We stand tied
- 8:22Speaker 1: us is in this community.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Yeah. I just always look at everything and go is
- 8:26Speaker 4: that value for money? And is my money best spent here?
- 8:29Speaker 4: So I guess I question everything before I spend money
- 8:32Speaker 4: on it, which can be annoying for the people around
- 8:34Speaker 4: me perhaps, but it's also the reason why I've been
- 8:37Speaker 4: as good with my money as I am.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like it's about balance too. Like if
- 8:42Speaker 1: you're like asking the question of is this value for money,
- 8:46Speaker 1: that to me is quite different too. I just don't
- 8:49Speaker 1: want to spend money, Like I think that that's a
- 8:52Speaker 1: very different mindset, and arguably your mindset is much healthier
- 8:55Speaker 1: than I just don't want to spend and that can
- 8:57Speaker 1: be really negative and that can impact lots of things.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I do definitely still splurge, Like, I don't feel
- 9:03Speaker 4: like I've missed out in the last six years that
- 9:06Speaker 4: I've owned my house. I've still traveled, I still have
- 9:09Speaker 4: weekends away.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You know.
- 9:10Speaker 4: If there's something that I want, I still make sure
- 9:13Speaker 4: I can get it. But I'm just really conscious about
- 9:16Speaker 4: how I go about that.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You're going to need to teach us your ways, because
- 9:20Speaker 1: I assumed that meant that you had forgone everything, and
- 9:23Speaker 1: now you're telling me that you still have a killer
- 9:24Speaker 1: life and you've fad off that much of your mortgage.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Kind of rude if you're asking.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Me, I wouldn't go that far. I feel like I've
- 9:32Speaker 4: learnt so much from you guys that it's just like
- 9:34Speaker 4: I'm the result of listening to the podcast, and we
- 9:37Speaker 4: will take on this. We will take it.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Jess and I are smiling ear to ear. We will
- 9:41Speaker 1: take that and run with it. So last question before
- 9:44Speaker 1: we get to deep dive into asking you some really
- 9:46Speaker 1: fun questions is what grade would you give your money
- 9:50Speaker 1: habits if we forced you to give yourself a grade.
- 9:52Speaker 4: I love this question because every time I listen to it,
- 9:55Speaker 4: I feel like the women that are answering are always
- 9:58Speaker 4: really hard on themselves. I know I'm going to say
- 10:01Speaker 4: an aus, and that's purely because I think I would
- 10:06Speaker 4: really love to be more confident when it comes to
- 10:09Speaker 4: shares and things like that. That's probably where my improvement lies.
- 10:13Speaker 4: I would say, oh, I love this.
- 10:14Speaker 1: All right, let's go to a really quick break, and
- 10:16Speaker 1: when we get back, I'm asking you all about being
- 10:18Speaker 1: an undercover cop. All right, money diarist, we are diving
- 10:27Speaker 1: straight back in. I'm very excited to ask you about
- 10:30Speaker 1: your business and about your journey and about how you've
- 10:32Speaker 1: paid off so much of your mortgage. But you cannot
- 10:35Speaker 1: lead a money diary entry with like, Hey, I was
- 10:37Speaker 1: an undercover cop and expect she's on the money to
- 10:40Speaker 1: not be like tell us, how does this work? Can
- 10:42Speaker 1: you tell us a little bit about that? Journey and
- 10:45Speaker 1: how you got there and how you knew you wanted
- 10:47Speaker 1: to do that, Like that's wild.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Yeah, So essentially it's just a course that's run. There's
- 10:54Speaker 4: really not a lot of information out there about it.
- 10:56Speaker 4: It is quite secretive and for obvious reasons. But it
- 11:00Speaker 4: was something that I kind of I'm always looking for
- 11:03Speaker 4: a challenge and I, you know, I like to do
- 11:06Speaker 4: things differently. I always wanted to be an actress growing up,
- 11:09Speaker 4: so I was like, you know, if I'm going to
- 11:11Speaker 4: be a police officer, maybe I can inject the two together.
- 11:14Speaker 4: So I was three years in and I did just
- 11:17Speaker 4: under two years with the unit, and yeah, some really
- 11:21Speaker 4: interesting jobs and it's just one of those units that
- 11:24Speaker 4: you'll never experience anything like it again. It's so it's
- 11:27Speaker 4: such a weird thing to be a part of. But
- 11:29Speaker 4: I'm really proud of, you know, the things that I achieved
- 11:32Speaker 4: while I was there. And they're kind of like a
- 11:34Speaker 4: last resort section, so really it's like their results driven
- 11:39Speaker 4: and yeah, I'm just very proud of the things that
- 11:41Speaker 4: I did whilst I was there.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, is it too much to ask for
- 11:45Speaker 1: some interesting stories around what that actually looked like? Because
- 11:49Speaker 1: I think so many times we see on movies and
- 11:52Speaker 1: as just said this, this is a bit like a movie.
- 11:54Speaker 1: At the start, you just see what an undercover cop
- 11:57Speaker 1: looks like and you just pretend to be a gangster.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that's what your job description is. Is
- 12:01Speaker 1: that accurate?
- 12:03Speaker 4: Yeah? Sort of. I mean I guess I can't go into.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Two no, no, no, no, absolutely because.
- 12:08Speaker 4: You don't want to give away like methodology or anything
- 12:10Speaker 4: like that. But it was definitely, you know, fun to
- 12:14Speaker 4: play different characters and the people that you meet are
- 12:17Speaker 4: probably you know, people that you don't want to be
- 12:19Speaker 4: spending time normally, So it really took a lot of
- 12:23Speaker 4: self control and you know, you have to remain really
- 12:26Speaker 4: calm in some really intense and stressful situations. So it
- 12:30Speaker 4: taught me a lot about myself and you know what
- 12:32Speaker 4: I'm capable of. And I feel like it's hard for
- 12:35Speaker 4: me now because I look at jobs outside of the
- 12:38Speaker 4: police service and I'm like, when could that ever be
- 12:41Speaker 4: able to be applied? You know, how do you put
- 12:43Speaker 4: that on a regimen and saying I learnt here I
- 12:45Speaker 4: can apply into it.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Just like reading through this money direst resume, Jess would
- 12:50Speaker 1: be like was fake gangster.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Cool.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I love that light. I want to know more about
- 12:58Speaker 1: your business though. Small business is something I I'm so
- 13:00Speaker 1: incredibly passionate about. You said, you built up a business
- 13:03Speaker 1: and sold it.
- 13:04Speaker 4: How who?
- 13:04Speaker 1: When?
- 13:05Speaker 4: Where?
- 13:05Speaker 1: What?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Why?
- 13:05Speaker 4: How? Like?
- 13:06Speaker 1: How does that happen?
- 13:08Speaker 4: I'm someone that's always been obsessed with everything planning related,
- 13:13Speaker 4: so I think, like the freedom that you can give
- 13:15Speaker 4: yourself and the things that you can achieve when you
- 13:17Speaker 4: sit down and plan for things is pretty incredible. There's
- 13:20Speaker 4: a lot of power in it. So I've always been
- 13:23Speaker 4: a planner, but every plan I'd ever bought was either
- 13:26Speaker 4: really functional and ugly or really beautiful but not so functional.
- 13:30Speaker 4: So I wanted to create one that I loved and
- 13:33Speaker 4: had all of the things included in it, so you know,
- 13:36Speaker 4: everything from budgeting, goal setting, mindfulness, and setting intentions. So
- 13:41Speaker 4: I created my own yearly planner. I did that for
- 13:46Speaker 4: four years, and so during that time was when I
- 13:49Speaker 4: took the sabbatical from work and tried to juggle traveling
- 13:52Speaker 4: around Australia and running that at the same time. But yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 4: sold that last year, and so my new small business
- 14:00Speaker 4: is essentially I mean, it's just teaching women how to
- 14:03Speaker 4: implement and apply all of these things into their life
- 14:06Speaker 4: because I feel like, as women, we have this tendency
- 14:09Speaker 4: to put ourselves last on the list of importance, and
- 14:13Speaker 4: I really just want to teach women how to put
- 14:15Speaker 4: themselves first again and the magic of doing that and
- 14:19Speaker 4: how nice it feels to actually, you know, create a
- 14:22Speaker 4: life that you're really proud of, that you can find
- 14:24Speaker 4: balance across all areas of your life.
- 14:26Speaker 3: We're all about that, clearly. I love to see, Yeah,
- 14:29Speaker 3: women's putting it in obviously exactly what she's on the
- 14:32Speaker 3: money stands for. I want to talk about that first
- 14:34Speaker 3: business that you built up and sold, because I think
- 14:37Speaker 3: that's something that we don't talk about quite so much
- 14:40Speaker 3: when we're talking about small business, is the fact that
- 14:42Speaker 3: you can build something up and then make the choice
- 14:44Speaker 3: to step away from it, and that can actually still
- 14:46Speaker 3: be a profitable decision. So how did you find a
- 14:51Speaker 3: buyer and how much money did you ultimately end up
- 14:54Speaker 3: making once you sold it?
- 14:55Speaker 4: How I found a buyer a few people when I
- 14:58Speaker 4: had sort of made the decision. Running especially a product
- 15:01Speaker 4: based business and working shift work as an emergency services
- 15:05Speaker 4: worker is like it's a tough gig. It's really exhausting,
- 15:09Speaker 4: and it just got to a point where it was hard,
- 15:12Speaker 4: but I had to make the decision for my own
- 15:14Speaker 4: mental health, like was what was more important. And so
- 15:18Speaker 4: I had sort of on my Instagram announced that it
- 15:21Speaker 4: would be closing down and I wasn't sure what direction
- 15:24Speaker 4: it would be would be taking, And a few people
- 15:26Speaker 4: actually approached me about it, about the potential of taking over,
- 15:30Speaker 4: but they just weren't the right fit. So I actually
- 15:34Speaker 4: just sent an email out to my email list and
- 15:37Speaker 4: said that this is what was happening, and the woman
- 15:41Speaker 4: who owns it now reached out and she didn't sort
- 15:44Speaker 4: of just reply with the generic hey I'm interested. She
- 15:48Speaker 4: introduced herself, told me why she loved it, you know,
- 15:51Speaker 4: all the things that she was passionate about. It was
- 15:52Speaker 4: honestly like handing it over to like my twin flame.
- 15:57Speaker 4: She's just so great, and you know, I just think
- 16:00Speaker 4: she embodies everything that that business was about as well.
- 16:03Speaker 4: So it just seemed really natural for her to be
- 16:05Speaker 4: the one to take over. So we discussed what I
- 16:10Speaker 4: thought it was worth and what she would be getting.
- 16:12Speaker 4: So there was you know a bit of back and forth,
- 16:14Speaker 4: and we did everything legally that was contracts, and all
- 16:18Speaker 4: of that for privacy. I was written into the contract
- 16:22Speaker 4: that I can't discuss the actual figure that I sold
- 16:25Speaker 4: it for, but you know, it was it was an
- 16:27Speaker 4: amount that I was really happy with to sort of
- 16:30Speaker 4: let it go and see it carried on because it
- 16:33Speaker 4: sort of had to be worth it for me. I'd
- 16:35Speaker 4: worked really hard to build it up to what it was.
- 16:38Speaker 4: I didn't want to just let it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Go for you know, something that you felt like it
- 16:42Speaker 1: was undervaluing it, because that's like basically your baby. Like
- 16:45Speaker 1: you've built up this thing and you've put all your
- 16:47Speaker 1: time and energy and effort into it. You're like, I'm
- 16:49Speaker 1: not just going to give it to someone who's not
- 16:51Speaker 1: going to give it what it needs to continue to grow.
- 16:55Speaker 1: That's probably why you made the decision to, you know,
- 16:57Speaker 1: say all right, it's going to close, Like I don't
- 16:59Speaker 1: know anyone who can carry this on in the way
- 17:02Speaker 1: that I would want it. And sounds like you found
- 17:03Speaker 1: that person. How cool?
- 17:05Speaker 4: Yeah, really lucky.
- 17:06Speaker 1: My next question, my friend, is you mentioned shift work.
- 17:10Speaker 1: We have a lot of people in our community who
- 17:12Speaker 1: workship work and are probably listening to this going. How
- 17:15Speaker 1: is this money diarist not completely burnt out? Like how
- 17:19Speaker 1: are you managing doing shift work in addition to running
- 17:22Speaker 1: a new business and getting things up and running. Like
- 17:25Speaker 1: shift work knocks you for six It's not just like, oh, well,
- 17:28Speaker 1: you just work overnight and you sleep during the day,
- 17:31Speaker 1: Like it turns your entire world upside down? Can you
- 17:34Speaker 1: tell us how are you so bright and vibrant today?
- 17:36Speaker 1: How does that work?
- 17:38Speaker 4: Honestly? Planning, I know, like without like plugging it anymore
- 17:42Speaker 4: than I can, Like I honestly I plan everything so much,
- 17:45Speaker 4: and I've figured out and I've learned a lot about
- 17:48Speaker 4: myself and when I'm most productive and when I need
- 17:51Speaker 4: to rest. So obviously, on the days that I do
- 17:54Speaker 4: night work, there's very little done. And then I know
- 17:57Speaker 4: the days where I'm going to have a lot of
- 17:58Speaker 4: brain power, so I get up early. I've figured out
- 18:01Speaker 4: like when I'm most productive, which is always after I
- 18:05Speaker 4: get up early and go to the gym of a
- 18:06Speaker 4: morning and had a coffee. So it's really yeah, a
- 18:11Speaker 4: lot of people find planning very restrictive, but I have
- 18:14Speaker 4: found that by planning, my life has become so much
- 18:17Speaker 4: more organized, and not just like planning for things on
- 18:20Speaker 4: my to do list, but planning rest and planning, fun
- 18:23Speaker 4: and planning, you know, all of those things that make
- 18:25Speaker 4: my life as incredible as it is. It's been an
- 18:29Speaker 4: absolute game changer.
- 18:30Speaker 3: How did all that planning go when you were traveling
- 18:33Speaker 3: around Australia in a van? Because I'm imagining if you're
- 18:36Speaker 3: driving around in a van, as much as you can
- 18:38Speaker 3: kind of plan your stops or plan what you want
- 18:41Speaker 3: to see, things would probably come up that just kind
- 18:44Speaker 3: of throw you for a loop that you weren't anticipating.
- 18:47Speaker 3: How did you juggle that while running the business while
- 18:50Speaker 3: also dealing with any unanticipated little surprises that came up
- 18:54Speaker 3: along the journey.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Yeah, to be honest, the planning went to shit.
- 19:00Speaker 1: The best policy around.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yeah, it was really hard, Like, especially traveling solo, you
- 19:07Speaker 4: really have to do all of the research and all
- 19:09Speaker 4: of the driving is being done and the van actually
- 19:12Speaker 4: just exploded in the middle of no in the Northern Territory. Yeah,
- 19:18Speaker 4: just absolutely car Yeah, carved it. It took about an
- 19:23Speaker 4: hour on the road side before anyone actually pulled over
- 19:26Speaker 4: to stop to help me, because I was like the scenario,
- 19:29Speaker 4: yeah that you could, you could get So I managed
- 19:32Speaker 4: to make my way to Darwin, and that was only
- 19:35Speaker 4: by I think halfway through month four of what was
- 19:38Speaker 4: supposed to.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Be didn't care up like I would have been, like,
- 19:42Speaker 1: we are going home.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I spent some time in Sydney, so yeah, I was
- 19:48Speaker 4: adamant that I was going to make the most of
- 19:49Speaker 4: that time off, so I sort of pivoted. But the
- 19:53Speaker 4: van was no longer after that, So yeah, we had
- 19:56Speaker 4: to change plans.
- 19:58Speaker 1: We pivot, we change big plan. I know your plan
- 20:01Speaker 1: quote went to shit, but I feel like you made
- 20:04Speaker 1: a different plan and then that worked for you.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Yeah, how did.
- 20:08Speaker 3: It work with internet when you were on the road?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, how do we do this? Can we just pounds
- 20:13Speaker 1: on the road?
- 20:13Speaker 3: Sounds like a dream being able to travel and work that.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I'm sure a lot of people have heard and gone,
- 20:17Speaker 3: oh my god, I'd love to do that. How what
- 20:19Speaker 3: was the like the actuality of it? Was it really
- 20:22Speaker 3: hard when you're you know, really deep in NTY and
- 20:24Speaker 3: you just have no reception.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Or yeah, you kind of have to just go go
- 20:29Speaker 4: with it. So hard to know when you'll have reception
- 20:31Speaker 4: and when you won't. So I just made the most
- 20:34Speaker 4: of it. It also meant that, you know, one of
- 20:37Speaker 4: my big things is not being on your phone as
- 20:39Speaker 4: much as possible. So I did a lot of reading
- 20:41Speaker 4: and I did a lot of relaxing, which isn't the
- 20:43Speaker 4: worst thing either, but I just honestly just had to
- 20:46Speaker 4: adapt with whatever I was confronted with on any given day.
- 20:51Speaker 3: So that's really cool. Was they like, what was your
- 20:54Speaker 3: ultimate high point and your ultimate low point of that trip?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Maybe her van exploding Jessica, Oh yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Yeah, there is that chestnut, because definitely the low.
- 21:05Speaker 4: I actually met some friends on the road whilst I
- 21:08Speaker 4: was traveling who were the first people that I called
- 21:10Speaker 4: when the van did shit itself? And they said, where
- 21:13Speaker 4: are Alice Springs right now? Fly to us, jump in
- 21:16Speaker 4: the back of our van. So I did that.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, how cool.
- 21:20Speaker 4: We did the top toe. There was three of us
- 21:22Speaker 4: in there, toy to high Ace. So we did Alice
- 21:26Speaker 4: Springs and we drove all the way to Ularu and
- 21:28Speaker 4: it was just a really incredible experience and just something
- 21:31Speaker 4: that I'm I'll always be grateful for that they sort
- 21:34Speaker 4: of let me tack on to the end of their trip.
- 21:36Speaker 1: That's really cool. I love that the worst thing that
- 21:39Speaker 1: could possibly happen ended up resulting into one of your
- 21:42Speaker 1: greatest memories. How cool.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Is that.
- 21:44Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean I'm really actually proud that it was
- 21:48Speaker 4: something that it could have ruined my trip and I
- 21:51Speaker 4: could have just thrown my hands in the air and said, well,
- 21:53Speaker 4: I guess that means I've got to go back to
- 21:54Speaker 4: work and I've got to go home with my tail
- 21:56Speaker 4: between my legs. But I was adamant that I was
- 21:58Speaker 4: just going to roll with it. I said that before
- 22:00Speaker 4: I left for the trip, whatever happens, I'm just gonna
- 22:04Speaker 4: go with the flow. So that was the theme of
- 22:06Speaker 4: the trip and probably what got me through.
- 22:08Speaker 1: See that was the plan.
- 22:09Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong, there were definitely tears.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I would have tried a lot, as I said before,
- 22:15Speaker 1: like I would have just been like, I am going home.
- 22:17Speaker 4: I am that person, Like I gave myself ten minutes.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I love that your long service leave that you have
- 22:23Speaker 3: coming up, but obviously stepping away from relatively set rigid
- 22:29Speaker 3: schedule with I know that you're working night and you
- 22:31Speaker 3: can be on and off when you're a cop, so
- 22:33Speaker 3: maybe not super rigid, but having that really regular income
- 22:36Speaker 3: and then going on on service leave to pursue this business,
- 22:40Speaker 3: how are you planning for that change? Obviously, you're plugging
- 22:43Speaker 3: away at the moment on the business currently on the side,
- 22:46Speaker 3: how did you decide that you were kind of in
- 22:48Speaker 3: a place where you were maybe profitable enough to take
- 22:51Speaker 3: that time off and focus wholly on that, And have
- 22:54Speaker 3: you put anything in place kind of to cover you
- 22:57Speaker 3: in case of emergencies.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Yeah, so I've got a really healthy offset account and
- 23:03Speaker 4: at the moment, so I'm taking long service leave at
- 23:05Speaker 4: half pay, so I'm still getting paid even if it
- 23:08Speaker 4: is only like a small amount, but I've worked out
- 23:11Speaker 4: at the very least my bills and things like that
- 23:13Speaker 4: can be covered. I'm making extra mortgage repayments at the moment,
- 23:17Speaker 4: which may probably have to stop, but as I said,
- 23:20Speaker 4: that is being rented out and that covers principle and
- 23:23Speaker 4: interest at the moment. So I'm in a good position
- 23:25Speaker 4: to do that, and i just figured if I don't
- 23:28Speaker 4: do it now, I'm never going to have the opportunity.
- 23:30Speaker 4: And I truly believe that, given the time and the
- 23:34Speaker 4: love that it deserves, like it's really it has the
- 23:37Speaker 4: potential to completely replace that wage in a really short
- 23:42Speaker 4: period of time. But until I have the time in
- 23:45Speaker 4: the space to do that, it was never going to happen,
- 23:47Speaker 4: so I just thought I've just got to do it.
- 23:49Speaker 3: That's yeah, really really amazing.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I have a door talking to you and learning more
- 23:54Speaker 1: about you, know, what your new job is and how
- 23:57Speaker 1: that's going to work. Like the idea that you exist
- 23:59Speaker 1: to empower people to just like live their best lives.
- 24:02Speaker 1: That's cool because I think that we have just learned
- 24:05Speaker 1: that you're basically living your best life. Like you look
- 24:08Speaker 1: so young. Can I be pervy and ask how old
- 24:10Speaker 1: are you?
- 24:11Speaker 4: I'm actually thirty five?
- 24:12Speaker 1: No you're not, No you're not.
- 24:15Speaker 4: She looks twenty eight.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Guys, I don't know what water you're drinking, but I
- 24:18Speaker 3: would like some of it.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Whatever you're doing, because having been an undercover cop but
- 24:23Speaker 1: built and sold a business to now having a brand
- 24:25Speaker 1: new business and having traveled all around Australia, like, I
- 24:28Speaker 1: feel like you have lived your best life, and I
- 24:30Speaker 1: feel like if anyone is going to teach other women
- 24:33Speaker 1: how to live theirs, like you're pretty good. You're walking
- 24:35Speaker 1: the walk, you're talking the talk, and I know that
- 24:38Speaker 1: you are going to be wildly successful. So thank you
- 24:40Speaker 1: so much for joining.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Us, Thank you for having me.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Oh always, Jess, would you like to take it away
