Transcript
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone and welcome.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go ahead and get started.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I know we still have some people joining,
- 0:12but chat is open if you want to leave a message and or ask a
- 0:17question or just talk
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: to the other people in attendance.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Today, we are going over reviews.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: And when I was putting together the materials for this presentation,
- 0:27I actually got really excited because reviews is something that
- 0:32I don't think we've
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: talked about a whole lot in this group.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And today,
- 0:36I'm going to be breaking down and giving you a review system or
- 0:41a framework,
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: if you will,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: to implement at your law firm.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 0:47so last month I talked a little bit about marketing plans for
- 0:512026 and I broke out
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: my marketing plans into three categories,
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: uh,
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: referral marketing,
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: which I feel like if you've been in this group a while,
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: you know why we talk about referral marketing.
- 1:04It's probably one of the best ways to get in cases that have a
- 1:08high case value rate.
- 1:11Then we're doing marketing plans for the second category,
- 1:14which is lead generation.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: And then the third category is authority building.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And when I was looking at like,
- 1:22what could we do in that authority building category that'll
- 1:26really help these law
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: firms,
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: the law firms get more cases,
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: get more leads,
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: improve their SEO,
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: local SEO,
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: all of this stuff.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And really all roads led back to reviews.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And admittedly,
- 1:41I feel like I've neglected reviews for a lot of my clients
- 1:46because some of my law
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: firms,
- 1:48they're just either good at getting reviews or they're not so
- 1:50good at getting
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: reviews.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: And some people put like a huge importance on getting a ton of reviews.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: And some people put not that much importance on getting a ton of reviews.
- 2:03And so I really haven't developed or I hadn't developed a
- 2:07review system just until
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: recently,
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: just these last few months.
- 2:11And really,
- 2:11it was bringing together all of these like disparate elements
- 2:15into one program.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And that's what we're going to be going over today.
- 2:19We're going to be talking about all of the everything that goes
- 2:23into building a
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: review framework for your law firm.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So to start with,
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 2:29reviews fall under this authority building category because
- 2:34reviews are what is
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: known as user generated content.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: And if you're not too familiar with what that is,
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: user-generated content is content generated by users on the internet.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: It's not the content that websites put out.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: It's not blogs.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: It's not company content or marketing.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: It's Reddit posts.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: It's reviews.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: It's any time somebody tags you on social media.
- 3:04Anytime somebody creates content on behalf of your website or
- 3:08your business.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: And,
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: sorry,
- 3:13Google and ChatGPT often look at user-generated content and see
- 3:19it as being more
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: authoritative than...
- 3:24the website content we create or the content we post on our
- 3:27website or the
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: marketing content we make.
- 3:30So user generated content really is kind of the gold standard
- 3:33of the internet.
- 3:35And user generated content also supplies a lot of data to chat
- 3:43GPT and Google.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And really,
- 3:45you don't have to look very far to see an example of this
- 3:49because ChatGPT and
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Google,
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: both have deals with Reddit.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And if you do many different types of searches using Google,
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: Reddit is some of the first results that will appear in search.
- 4:03So generally,
- 4:04the internet has decided that Reddit is an authoritative source
- 4:09of information.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: And all of that is user-generated content.
- 4:12And also just to give you another example of user-generated
- 4:15content are on your AVO
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: or Justia bios,
- 4:19where they're asking us or the law firm to supply answers to
- 4:26user-created questions
- 4:27on their platform because they use that information to help
- 4:32rank you on their
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: platform.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: And also they use that user-generated content,
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: the content you are creating,
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: to make their platform better overall.
- 4:42And so user-generated content is this kind of gold standard on
- 4:45the internet.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: And for law firms,
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: for us,
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: for marketers of small businesses,
- 4:51reviews are probably the most important type of user-generated
- 4:55content that we're
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: in charge of cultivating.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna start with the very beginning.
- 5:00Basically how I put this outline for this talk today is by
- 5:05answering a lot of the
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: commonly asked questions that we get about our reviews.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna start at the top and work my way down.
- 5:12And so the first question kind of naturally is where should we
- 5:16get reviews?
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: And the answer seems pretty obvious.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, hold on one second.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I'm just making sure it was recording.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's Google, right?
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Google is the gold standard of online reviews currently,
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: although that could change,
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: but they are certainly not the only review platform.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Whenever we're looking at how do we increase reviews for our law firm,
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: we're looking at all the different platforms.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: We're looking at Google,
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: we're looking at Yelp,
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: we're looking at Avvo,
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Better Business Bureau,
- 5:48and other directory websites that may offer some sort of review
- 5:52or ranking system.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Really on all of these platforms,
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: we want to cultivate a review presence or a review library,
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: but Google by far is the most important.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: And it makes sense when you think about it,
- 6:05because if you've ever pushed your SEO company or you yourself
- 6:09have been pushed to
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: get better results from Google business,
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: the reply back to you or the law firm is usually more reviews,
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: right?
- 6:19SEO companies really lean on those Google reviews to make a
- 6:23Google business listing
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: perform really,
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: really well,
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: right?
- 6:27So Google reviews aren't just a way for us to convince people
- 6:34to hire us.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: They're not just used to evaluate our services.
- 6:38They are literally a part of the ranking factor that Google
- 6:41uses to determine how
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: they place our business in the map pack.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So reviews are important for that reason,
- 6:48but they're also important because that's the place people go
- 6:51to check on your
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: reputation.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: And we'll be talking a little bit about that later in the talk today.
- 6:59So we're looking at all of the platforms and we're trying to
- 7:02increase our view
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: count on all of these,
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: including Yelp.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Business owners, all of my business owners, really hate Yelp.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: If we've never talked about Yelp and I bring up Yelp,
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: the first thing they say is how much they hate Yelp.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: If you hate Yelp, type it in the chat.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: Yelp is kind of notorious.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: If you get a review on Yelp,
- 7:23it's probably like got a 75% chance of going into the not
- 7:28recommended folder,
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: right?
- 7:32And whenever reviews land in that not recommended folder,
- 7:36people don't usually see them.
- 7:38And so you can work really hard to get a legitimate Yelp review
- 7:41and it not
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: recommend or it not be recommended on the platform to viewers,
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: right?
- 7:49So you can put all that work into getting that review and then
- 7:52not do anything for you.
- 7:54And the factors that influence if a review shows up on Yelp
- 7:58largely has to do with
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: how active that person is on the platform,
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: right?
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: So when we talk about how do we cultivate Yelp reviews,
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: we're usually talking about,
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: okay,
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: we have to figure out,
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: are they Google users or are they Yelp users?
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Because if they're Yelp users, we need to send them to Yelp, right?
- 8:16But that's hard to do,
- 8:18and we'll get into some of the automations and stuff a little
- 8:20bit later.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: But Yelp is still very important.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: In certain pockets of communities,
- 8:25Yelp is probably more authoritative as a review source than
- 8:29Google Business at
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: large,
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: or Google in general,
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: right?
- 8:34And Yelp,
- 8:35or not Yelp,
- 8:36I'm sorry,
- 8:36Avvo also has reviews where people can leave reviews.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Now, we haven't really collectively, we, the legal industry,
- 8:45I don't feel like has really paid a whole lot of attention to
- 8:48Yelp until maybe the
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: last 16 months or so.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Because Yelp is one of those platforms that influences ChatGPT.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: And when you ask ChatGPT who are the best lawyers in my region,
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: they're going to look at AVO,
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: they're going to look at Justia,
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: they're going to look at all of these other super lawyers.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: They're going to look at all of these directories.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And if you're a super lawyer,
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: or you have a lot of AVO reviews,
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: or you have a lot of Justia reviews,
- 9:17ChatGPT is going to use that information and potentially reach
- 9:21the conclusion that
- 9:22you are the best attorney in that category and present that
- 9:25data to people querying
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: ChatGPT.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: So we haven't paid much attention to Yelp,
- 9:31but Yelp is still a place that is important in this whole
- 9:35review ecosystem.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: And then there's better business bureau.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: I didn't really have too much to say about better business bureau,
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: except it's a high domain authority site.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: You should have a profile there.
- 9:47And it's always nice if you have some good reviews on better
- 9:50business bureau.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Um,
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: and then actually just this morning,
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know if he's here on the call,
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: but I was talking with one of my marketers who,
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: uh,
