Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the nine and always podcast parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor and nine and always dot com and here with me in basking in the glow of the two and no is fellow contributor, Oksha's divadula, Oksha's, how are we doing?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're doing great, Robert.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're absolutely right.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Two and now is perhaps the best place to be after two weeks in the season.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Everything so yeah.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's only goes down from here if they lose a game, but it's been it's been weird games.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: I would say a little uncomfortable at I think you've been like you put a perfectly in a message you sent to the slack group.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm knowing but you know a wins a wins a win and I'd rather they be two and know then one and one or two.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: because the problems remain the same, but you might as well stack wins while you're at it.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely right.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, they win 20 annoying games throughout the entire day to season, then it was annoying, but they win the Super Bowl, so it's not the worst thing in the world.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 26, 21 over the Saints at the Superdom.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think in the end,
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's a little clear.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: We'll just talk about how throw it out there.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: Is this one of those like the game was not as close as the final score may indicate type of situations?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you think that the 26, 21 seemed like a reasonable facsimile of the game?
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think it is, I think it's more indicative than the Seattle score.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Niners were clearly outplaying Seattle.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think here, um,
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the Niners were more consistent on offense, but I wouldn't translate that to like incredibly better.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like they were better, obviously, they wanted to.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: So they were better in that regard.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: But like I thought when the Saints really got it rolling, like they got it rolling, they were doing really well.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, some of that was off like fuel position, you know, turned over by the 49ers and we'll get into this.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: And we talked about the game more in a more detailed fashion, but like,
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: The Saints offense did cause some problems for the Niners defense, I think.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: The Saints defense did have some good plays and I think that like the 49ers scored more.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I think move the ball in a way that was a little less comfortable to me.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: That is my takeaway from week one to week two that the difference was they cached in.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: And like, you know, they didn't they had less like negative plays.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: which is great, important takeaways that's how you win football games.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: But like, definitely a closer game than I think it should have been, but it's also hard to say right because like with Mac Jones at the helm, you don't really know how the offense is gonna look like.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: You don't really know how the games gonna play out.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: So it's hard to tell like what the 49ers look like with Mac Jones really, right?
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: So we've been right for this sort of like, what this is like, but I would say, well, I would say more on the side of the score
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I think I think it's reasonably fair.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I mean, I think there were some things in there that kind of made it like you said, if if you take away the the Mac Jens fumble on that drive, I don't think the Saints score 21 points.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: So that's it's kind of one of those things.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's kind of the only thing I'm looking at is, but I suppose.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: the Saints like made that the defense made that happen for them that allowed their offense to have the short field that allowed them to score touchdown.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, we could we could have him in home at it.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: But, yeah, it is what it is.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't really matter at the end of the day because the win is win and there's no, this isn't college football, there's no
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: style points here involved so it's just they go on so a couple of injury related things coming out of this one obviously Kyle used check left the game he's in the concussion protocol be monitored throughout the week so hopefully he'll be good to go for next week you know I don't know if it makes any difference that it was like early in the game that he came out
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if a couple of hours makes a lot of difference, but there it is.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: Soron Neal also entered the concussion protocol.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: His was post game.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: He reported symptoms on Monday, so he didn't have anything happen during the game, but he's now in the concussion protocol, so something to watch there.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Ben Barch obviously left the game with a high with a injury.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: It turned out to be a high ankle sprain Lovely, you know, love those high ankle sprains Expected to miss some time.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the timeline is on that.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't say Spencer Burford which is interesting because to like the play special teams, I guess dealing with a knee issue considered day-to-day and Joanne Jennings also with an ankle injury will be a valiant reevaluated throughout the week.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think I
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: have a recollection of when that happened, uh, I'm trying to remember, like, exactly when it was, but it was this kind of like a slightly arrogant pass, um, that Mac Jones tried to get to him and he kind of had to take a funny step and got up kind of limping and, um, he ended up playing the rest of the game, so it didn't really impact him that much, but clearly something to, to watch, going forward.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh,
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, another week in other set of injuries, I guess.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing like terribly concerning there, but certainly some names to watch, especially use check.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: As far as a guy and Jennings too, as well as a guy that's like, you want him out there, especially with the, with George Gettle already being out, and the tight-end situation being what it is, it would be nice to have use check about that back out there is a useful chess piece for sure.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: juice plays such a versatile role and more importantly, like you saw the offense have to change with him out.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's really the biggest sort of like chain reaction issue.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like yeah, it's bad because kiddo isn't playing and now he can play tight end.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's bad because he's the full back and now you can't really run your like two running backs sets 21 personnel.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: But equally importantly if you can't do 21 and your best tight ends out of the game,
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: You're not really putting in two tight insets anymore.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: So you're putting up, go three receivers.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Before you notice, receiving debt has not been great.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it looked pretty good against the saints where like, can't you learn?
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Made some good plays.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you see for three already?
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's not great for Skymore and Mark does Bandus Catling, but you could see him like B new, right, which makes sense again, just got here.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: But like there were many moments where he didn't know what was going on.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: Janice's amazing, pure song grade, but like that's like that's a downstream impact that I think is really bad because in an ideal world, the solution to not having like great writers, he was not having George Kittle, is run the ball, but without juice, now it's sort of like, okay, we probably have to go into 11 person now.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to put players we don't really want to be on the field and a deal rolled on the field and like it trickles down everywhere.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully he gets better my understanding of the concussion protocol and correct me if I'm wrong.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Robert, is that like you get entered in if you report symptoms the next day as well.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: So my guess is that like he's probably still dealing with like symptoms from like the concussion and the game.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: It probably means that like it's hard to tell when it'll be like wrapped up because I believe updance doubt also had a concussion or was evaluated for a concussion, but didn't have didn't report symptoms, so it's not in the protocol, but I'm not 100% sure.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's all foggy to me.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's just a bad joke, terrible.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so certainly things are monitored there.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, nothing long, nothing long term really there.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think Ben Barch is the guy who's going to stand to miss the most time.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk more about that position later on.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: Fortenanners announced today that Robert Beal is back.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the practice squad.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of not terribly surprising after they released him and then he was going to be a guy that would be available to come back Could they like him enough to to go through whatever it was they needed to do to to keep him on but I just think There's there's a couple of positions on this team that over the course of the next several weeks are gonna be a lot See a lot of flux talk about the wider series thing to deep into line is certainly gonna see some of that as well
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Um, as they try to just figure out like what are the right combinations of players along there.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, Bill was was inactive for week one and then released in the lead up to week two and now he's back.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe there's an opportunity to play.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's just a developmental thing and he.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: it's very weird like he made the team out of training camp like outright didn't play in week one and then was gone and then came back inside of this in before you know right as week two was over so I don't I don't know what they really think of him but it's but they obviously like him enough to keep him around but it was kind of a strange like transactional situation.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm pulling directly from Matt Barros here right for the athletic
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: But he sort of speculated slash stated that Sam Samo was playing like a lot of special teams as well.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I think what may have happened is that like Sam is sort of like you served to be all like on the pecking order which makes sense.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's played a lot better than be like I think has in the available snaps because he's now playing special teams.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's like our Robert Beale doesn't really have like like that was his calling card.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's how he's going to make the roster because he's not there as a password sure yet or like.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: to get on to like the fuel for defensive snaps, but if Samo has got the special teams as well, then it's sort of a necessary, and then you just go off like, who's the best fit?
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Curtis Robinson is like, but they're calling him up every week.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: A, not really great for like, Nick Martin?
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Not ideal, but on top of that, right?
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, clearly they like he's providing a good service for the team and it's on special teams.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: If you're not going to play him on the defensive line, just get the best special teams player regardless of position.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the other news is related to, um, and I, I don't, I guess, change the hands of this specifically.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: So there is some,
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: thought that maybe Brock Party is not going to be out as long as they anticipated, I don't know that he actually used the phrase day to day, but it is kind of like they're going to be able to monitor it throughout the week and kind of get a sense of like whether or not he'll be ready to go for next for the home opener on Sunday.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think if anything and we can we can talk about this, we can discuss this as we get into the actual game itself, like the fact that Mac Jones proved to be a more than serviceable backup allows you to not have to play around with with with with the Brock pretty thing and like if he's not ready to go like you don't feel this major pressure
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: whether or not that's consistently what you're going to get from Actions remains to be seen, but we'll maybe we'll have to see that goes.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, I don't know.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm kind of torn at this situation is like, is a 90 90 to 95% Brock Perty better than a fully healthy Mac Jones.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: I
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: or vice versa.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: But it will be something to kind of pay attention to to see how much practice he gets this week and whether or not it'll be good to go with that turf toe.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: And the other side of this and you can respond to all of this at once and in sections as I
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: As I told my dad, my father yesterday after the game apparently the turf toe situation get a lot worse because Joe Burrow is going to probably miss most of the rest of the season because of the same injury which is wild to me but you know anybody who's he was stubbed the toe or undid something to it to your toe.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: probably knows just like how awkward that makes like regular walking let him athletic competition so bro I'm going to have surgery and I think what three three months right so the time table I think on him which is pretty much that's it right pretty close.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so I'll go back to front I guess so I mean
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: In my estimation, the greatest middle lineback or whoever played football retired because of turf to that being like 49er's great Patrick Willis needed to add the first part in just for me.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that like, no, it's a big deal of an entry right.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Niners got very lucky and the fact that Pertis is not missing that much time.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: To your point that like 95% of Perti versus 100% of Mac Jones I also don't know, I think it's a bit of an interesting situation
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think the fact that, like, that's not super clear to us, is also potentially an interesting situation, but we can maybe get into that later into the episode.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I think I would err on the side of caution because I do think this is probably undisputably true.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: We move the contracts just as a player, right?
- 13:47[SPEAKER_01]: Black Freddy is the better quarterback for the 49ers than Mac Jones because of what he adds sort of on the fringes, right?
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Jones played really well.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: But you could see the places where, like, rock-pretty is gonna be like better and more health-ful.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that's gonna be especially true against, like, teams that provide more of, like, a challenge than the saints on defense, especially.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that, like, I, it's tough because we three's against the cardinals and you don't really want your team.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like a division game isn't something you're like you kind of punt it or you're like we're not going to be a hundred percent for this, but I think for the 49ers season it's far more important that Brock pretty is healthy.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: Now, like if Mac Jones continues to play like incredibly, then I don't know you keep on resting and like make sure he's really healthy, but like I thought Jones played well enough to where you're not like it's not like.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy Garoppolo was sort of hurt not really like he was hurt, but like maybe he could come back maybe couldn't Nick Mollon's was playing in the certain point where like oh yeah like Jimmy you got it like getting here right now otherwise this season is going down we're not at that point which is a great thing right then there's related themselves well but like yeah I don't know it's tough though it's real tough but I I air on the side of caution here because I'll see rock pretty is he's like
- 15:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's the guy who can get you to the promised land, I think.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: as opposed to max shots.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's right.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and it, you know, it's, it's, like, if he's fine, if he's ready to go, if he gets cleared and everybody's fine, like, let him play, it's good.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I think you're, I think you're right, like, as much as much as you hate to be like, okay, we're not going to, for our home opener on the season against a division, like a division opponent, we're not going to have, and frankly, it doesn't matter if, like,
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: 100% they're best team that they could possibly feel anyway and that's not going to happen for at least two months, like into the season reasonably, six to eight weeks, something like that.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to be talking about that a lot and like the state of their team is going to not really get to where it needs to be.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: until after that this of course will be the last week without democracy Robinson who will be able to return for week four against Jacksonville so hopefully we're moving in that right direction so i think i'm right there with you and just like if if pretty is not like a hundred percent right to go like let
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Mac Jones get in there another week.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's probably solid enough to to deal with the cardinals would be my guess, but we'll talk about that at the end of the week when we get close to that party.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: So should we go ahead and get into the game itself?
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, more detail.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get started.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so we'll get into this with our one up-landown segment, which of course is brought to you by our friends from Underdog Fantasy.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_00]: Football is back and underdog is the best place to make picks and win money all season long.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_00]: Playing on Underdog is easy, just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on stats like touchdowns, receiving yarns, interceptions, and more.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: get your picks right and you can win up to 5,000 times your cash.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: You can play for his little as one dollar.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: So now we'll send it over to Akchast to tell us more about using underdog fantasy.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everyone, you know, I've been talking about underdog fantasy a lot and I always say the same thing because it's true, I think it's one of the easiest and most fun ways to get involved with daily fantasy, like making the picks is really fun.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's really simple.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: You'd like
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: log in and there you go, they're right there.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: You can go to whatever's porch you want really easily.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: You can add them together really easily.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's a lot of fun looking at the different stat lines and being like, do I think that, you know, to a talk about LA was going to go higher lower on past some yards.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: I remember last week, I talked a lot about like really going big on the dolphins, gonna get right.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: In Tariq Hill played well.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: The dolphins did not get it right.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: It was no longer be thinking that as I say always,
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: for my suggestions on what to pick, some really bad at it.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: But do listen to me on where to pick, because a do-thing underdog is like, it's a really fun and simple way to get into it and like, as long as you exercise pretty like, you know, like reasonable restraints, like it's an incredible way I think, to like watch like sports, especially football for me, like I love football, love watching football turn, but I've realized I do like watching football a little more.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: When I've made some picks, it just like, it gets the blood flowing, you get more involved, you get invested.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: It like, it makes even the most boring game super fun.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: And that's like, that's where it's all at.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you can download the app today and sign up with promo code noise to score $50 in bonus funds when you play your first $5 dollars that's promo code noise.

- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: Good job.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: You did it.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: I was worried, but you made it through.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: Let's start with you, Ash.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: I was about to
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to like, I think I mentioned this for the Seattle game too, but I am really impressed with this group.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to quickly mention this, but then I want to dive into like a particular player.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_01]: I thought played really well.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: I am just impressed by the skill position players really like I think that like.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: Again, the people who like when everyone is healthy, you're still going to expect to make big plays.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: are making big plays right now.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like Joanne Jennings, great game, 89 yards, five catches a touchdown.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Ricky Pierce saw great catches, like Got Mac Jones and the rhythm.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Kendrick Boren, like three receptions, third to yards, like we've, I think as a collective fan base, because Kendrick Boren was here in like 2017, 2018, 2019,
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: It all sort of been like, yeah, like he totally gets it.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: But that's not what Paul works like.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: This happens has changed.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: This playbook has changed, right?
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: What he did was really, like that's really impressive.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like there were little bits of snafu's here, but like I thought he did a great job.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: And like, I thought the broadcast for the game had a good point.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like he understands the 49ers ethos, right?
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: That is what you got.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's the familiarity and the thought he did great job.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: Christian McAfee over a hundred scrimmage yards.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: The running was easier at that either a great job on the ground and into air, it's a great touchdown catch.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: Luke Feral, guys first touchdown, that was really cool.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: But like, those first four guys, and really like it's Jennings, Pearson and McAfee, that's a big deal.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's really important that like they're playing well.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: They're lifting this team up as people are getting healthy and getting back.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: And that's exactly what you want.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: So that was a lot for a small point, but I really do want to mention this guy because I thought like it was a huge game from him and it was exactly what you want to see and that's Michael Williams.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Williams played phenomenally, I think against the Saints.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I was just because I was just thinking before the game, like, you know, Michael Williams isn't really flashing a lot, right, like, kind of feels like he's invisible out there.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously he's raw, he'll take time, whatever,
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: not expecting like amazing things week one.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: Then I don't think he registered a stat week one.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: Week two, he was present.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like five tackles, two fur loss, multiple pressures, like he got after the Saints, right?
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like a really big play against Alvin Camaro, like one of those things that make you a woe.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought on Nick Bosa's sack on the penultimate drive for the Saints, Williams got the pressure, right?
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: And then like, both that cleaned it up, he like, I almost thought they were going to give him a half sack because he basically pushed Rattler to the ground.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: I thought like it was he like.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: If week one is sort of the concern you would have with Michael Williams, he's raw, maybe he's not like refined so doesn't mean he'll make a lot of impact week two is like a pretty good expectation of what you can get out of him right and I think there's so much more to go.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's particularly important because like Bryce Huff played well, the defensive line made plays at the end.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: But they're still not firing and all still, when there's, I feel like on a past-wresth basis, they're like, at the end they're getting after it, but not in the beginning.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: In part of that will come when people other than Nick Bosa win their past-wresth snaps.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: And if Michael Williams is making that progression, like if we see the same jump from week one to two, occurs two to three,
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: A, like, we probably have a Hall of Famer, so that's amazing.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: But even if it's a little more reasonable, like, that's gonna, that's like a star defensive end, opposite Nick Bosa, and then you push him inside and Bryce Huffs on the outside.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're getting closer to the ideal for the 49ers past verse, which is a 2019 season, right?
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and so I was really impressed by his play.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was excited by his play.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: I thought like, that was,
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: The main thing that took away from that game and I was like, all right, this is like, this is a great sign.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is that like Michael Williams is figuring it out?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, because like if he figures it out, the sky's the limit and the 49ers will be the beneficiaries.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, agreed on everything that you just, that you said, like, it's, what did I see today?
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, through through two games, I think if, if you're one of those, like, you know, expected points added type of metrics, guys, the 49 is offense through two weeks is fourth in the NFL so far, having two quarterbacks and not really,
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: doing like not looking completely spectacular throughout the entire time, which just kind of gives you an indication of like how efficient they've been in many cases.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that they've done it with just kind of like a pretty interesting group of skilled position players so far has been pretty like really impressive, so I think you're right on that.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to actually say for my up was just going to be like all
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: There's a a quartet of rookies that I thought played pretty well on On Sunday one of them of course being Michael Williams who like said like I think the the knock on him was always like he's he's raw And it's not we're not really sure what what
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to do with him quite yet.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: Man, I think they've already figured out what to do with him.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think that's like absolutely zero question, like where they figured out where he is best, like already.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, he's still pretty raw and he's still, I still anticipate he's going to make some mistakes.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: He just turned 21 in June, like, it's just like wild, like how young he is in the fact that he's going to have an opportunity to continue to grow.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Optin's doubt played pretty well, a much kind of more like steady showing than in week one where he kind of grew into the game ended up playing fairly well, but I thought it was a pretty good show in there.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: Marcus Seagull continuing to be a kind of a steady force back there as a safety.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_00]: But the one name that I want to highlight, like above the mall, is Connor Colby, who came into the game when Ben Varch went down and absolutely just like owns that position.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think I saw was credited with zero pressures on the day, so like exactly what you want.
- 26:37[SPEAKER_00]: like there's been zero conversation about the play, which is good because that means that usually when offensive linemen are being named, it's because that did something bad and he didn't didn't have any penalties, he didn't have any errors or anything that would have gotten them called out.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look, this is not the same as hitting on your franchise quarterback in the 7th round, but I mean, if you can get a starting offensive linemen in the 7th rounds, I think
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he'll have a situation.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: He'll he'll be up and down to, but if this is another dominant community type of situation, but from a 7th or 100, man, I think you're really good shape.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: I totally agree on Colby, like we sort of, I glossed over the fact that Ben Barscott heard because he played so well, it's just like, yeah, I mean, like, had a huge, in the craziest way possible.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's sort of like, it's not a huge deal because like, yeah,
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I am going to sort of take this to transition to my down because you mentioned a player who in your ups, who I actually thought played like fine, but was emblematic of sort of a larger issue for this game.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: So my down is the secondary.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: I thought the secondary did not have a good showing.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like the first drive the same said, Ronaldo Green gets burned twice.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: One of them goes against
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Upton Stout was like fine.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was okay.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like his like the legal contact penalty that allowed the Saints to score their last touchdown.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm shaking my head, no, not not a penalty in general.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he played like phenomenally.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't know what to expect, but I do think that like The Saints got a lot into air.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Marcus Seagull was like also like fine.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't think he was particularly great.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was much better against Seattle.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like he gave up that touchdowns to Juan Johnson, tough throw, great catch.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: Also not a catch, by the way.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: But we don't know what a catch is.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's all good to do to say, I don't understand that rule.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody needs to explain to me how is a catch?
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't understand it.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: Because one of my other guys in the slack was like, the shin hit before the knee, I'm like, the shin never hit the ground.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: But okay.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that's all I got.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: Continue, I'm sorry.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so whether it was a catch or not, it was an unfortunate play.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, he also had a bad penalty.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Renardo didn't, like, I think like Jason Pinnock gave up a touch down tough situation for him to like be planning like slot corner, like I think the only guy in the second area who's playing amazing is Diameter Lenore.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: The other Lenore is playing like really, really well.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, this is like, so I used to say way back in the like, I don't know, like
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: all the way back before Calshanna hit and I coined something for myself that I think I mentioned on the podcast, which I called the Dante Johnson effect.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: Love Dante Johnson, amazing like amazing 49er, incredible career, but like he played a lot and
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: in positions that were not like like he would get targeted a lot, right?
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's like so you sort of create this like situation where the opposite corner looks really, really good like Rashad Robinson I think is rookie year.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: There's an aim like some of you may not have heard for a long time.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: What's phenomenal?
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: Because like no one threw to him because you could just scare the gun down day down.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly, right?
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like a yellow wood or spoon his rookie year.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was a similar thing.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: It was like
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: One guy was like the weak spot so you target them.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think the inverse is sort of happening here.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think like it's a bit of both, but I think theometer will ignore so far and away better than like the others, foreigners and like defensive backs right now.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: That like there's just no point.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like why would you target him?
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: So he's not getting opportunities to make big plays because it's just it's not worth it.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: So that's going to change.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think when teams with more receivers and like
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: The ability to like who have guys where they're like, I think this guy goes up against everyone, right, like he's going to get tested, but he's playing really well, I think everyone else there's there's a bit of a collective step up the needs to occur.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: We'll also quickly say because I didn't think it was terrible, but I do think it's still not good, like 49 special teams, we stick at it together, like the miss PAT ominous fine, whatever, like.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_01]: It happens wasn't great.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: It happens like, yeah, I thought he was trolling us to be honest.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he did not purpose, oh, man, because he missed it so badly.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, in the world, like, that's, well, and there's this kind of funny, actually, I know that would be amazing.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: But like return game, not good, just not good.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like coverage, not good.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: I like the 49ers are so much of a negative.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: in field position because of this, like this is going to cost them a game.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's just true.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like at some point this season, they're going to lose a game because of the margins here, right?
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like this team is not like the greatest team ever, right?
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: I wish it was, but like they're like on the same level of a lot of other teams.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: So these are the places that you sort of have to get your edge and they're losing on the margins here.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: And that's like a big deal, right?
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: So like,
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what it is.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's because like Kyle Shinyan has never prioritized it.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: John Lynch hasn't prioritized it.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: Whatever.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's like offense like you said fourth and the league and like total yards or points or like just like playing incredibly well like defense probably statistically middle of the pack right now even like this game against the Saints.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: But like I test right playing really well right
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: Those guys are a playoff caliber, right?
- 32:53[SPEAKER_01]: Especially with the schedule playoff caliber for sure.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: Special teams, not even close.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: No way to pick it up.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: Great fun.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_01]: Happy with more stead.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone else, like, come on, like, there's work to do and like, it's better you figure out now than it cost you a game.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's cost 49ers basically every season.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: Two seasons ago is the Super Bowl.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 33:17[SPEAKER_01]: when the lesson before learning practice don't learn it on the biggest stage it's I'm saying.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: I like it.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well said.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well said.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I mean frankly, I think Eddie Piniero is going to be fine when it's all said and done like I think.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I was joking obviously that he was trolling us, but it just it was very funny.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like how he missed that extra point It's the first thing.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure like everybody's heart went.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh gosh, like here we go again And then he was fine like during the rest of the game didn't miss any more kicks.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think he'll be just just okay.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: It just like he'll be solid enough Ponding is what what it is like more says doing fine
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, you're right, the special teams you know, it's got to figure out how to tighten up.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Just a little bit more.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know how do you do that?
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: How do you drill that and how do you make that better?
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: I have no clue, especially once the season starts.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's just kind of like, some of that is just like finding the right combination of guys, because I can't imagine there's spending a whole lot of time on special teams like coverage during the week, right?
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: We'll lead up to it.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: Unless there was something specific, like a fatigue head.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like if they were playing the Cowboys, and you have a Dante Turpent type of guy, where there's a weapon, you have to pay attention to that guy.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, we'll see.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: So my down, yeah, just like to me, it was just kind of like, those little things, like the penalties, question mark, that kind of extended the drives for the Saints, like those are the kinds of things that you want to, they have to be just like really,
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: aware of and careful with especially against a team that you should be beating up on like that's the kind of thing that gives a team like this hope that it can stick in in the game and you don't want to offer that and especially once you start playing against slightly better opponents like those are the errors that you have to clean up and I think the thing like a lot of the stuff you were talking about in the secondary kind of thing cuddle holds holds to that I also agree that the stop thing was just not a not an illegal contact penalty
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like when they showed the the replay and it's just like okay, he's got him.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's got him and then he got very clearly to the five yard mark and let him go It's just like okay.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to do So not ideal and then obviously the the turnover situation I think this particular turnover Was problematic to me because it's just like this is you were talking about this earlier This is the thing where you're like
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: awareness in the pocket and he's not standing that like and he can move in the mobility and all that kind of stuff like those are that situation which was a weird one because like the past was her fell down and McHivets is kind of like standing there and then he starts to get back up and then McHivets starts to trip but at that point Mac need to make it a decision and like do something with the ball like there's absolutely no reason to be holding on the ball anymore like get rid of it or do something like and I think that was kind of like one of those in one of those situations where you look at it and you're like
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, Brock pretty doesn't have that ball anymore or he's not standing in the pocket anymore, and that's that's like The one of the Mac Jones deficiencies that make you go.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well who like glad they avoided like that being a major issue Throughout the game, but that particular situation was just like yeah that was the fresh that was one of the frustrations Where you know although he played fairly well for the most part that was one of the ones that was like gosh like that's not good
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, totally agree, right?
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it was, it was, it was the printer example of like, what Brock pretty gives you.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: But Mack Jones, like, he played well.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, him a printer for that.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_00]: He did.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_00]: And his one scramble was like, the funniest thing to happen in the whole game.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: The movement on it, where he's just kind of like, slid side out of it, which just made me laugh.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: I was like sitting there watching his slapping as he's running, like, oh my gosh.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, it was like, I have, I have no,
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: For what we could have possibly reasonably expected to play the button beyond, but like, again, like, it's the same.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there is sort of a couching to this all that I think is important and like, I think for both mentioning, right, like, you got to sort of see where how it plays out, right, like I mean, the cardinals are probably a bit of a better test and who knows if it keeps on going, but like, I totally agree, right, like,
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: Again, it's an interesting sort of comparison to last year, but like this is the type of game the 49ers would have lost because of the same things that they did in this game right up until the very end is same like silly penalties giving them extra downs like turn over here are there.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: Offensive like inconsistencies not hauling in like difficult, but necessary catches right like the John Jennings third down exactly yeah like maybe the play calling seems a bit off and you're like okay like why don't we run the ball here whatever clock is like this also is small things to sort of come together and you're like all right like why is this not working yeah like what's going to like what is happening right like.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to end poorly, but the difference is the 49ers like defense and offense a little bit like I mean the offense can be better, but it's like they make the play and that the play is the like game changer for the 49ers right this year.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: the best teams can win dirty.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: The best teams can also win clean, right?
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, eventually we'd like to see that for sure.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right, like, so I'm excited for the Niners to sort of.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: kick it into hide gear in that regard and start like getting more focused.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw there they have already matched their total wins in one score games from last season.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, I mean, when we talked about this last week, like that's it.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: This is a game.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: Just like I think very similarly like to the Seattle game last last week, this is another game that they probably lose last year.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, oh, this is a team they should like walk all over, who then You know sticks around like annoyingly as we already said like you're just like go away Okay, but do something to like put them away and they just don't put them away and they don't put them away and then Probably they last year this team gives up a
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: the touchdown on the last drive instead of forcing another sack fumble into the game, kind of eerie, how that ends, how it's ended, kind of both ways.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, I was just thinking about this, access.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: I cannot absolutely cannot believe that you've made it through two game recaps without mentioning Fred Warner, like, even at all.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know,
- 40:25[SPEAKER_00]: Ice, I, you know, it's just like a, it's just like a, yeah, Fred one was great and that was kind of where you got last year, but it's also like, come on man.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I have a bit, and I stick to it.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to plug my article series again about the position groups, because I'm what I'm writing the 49ers linebackers first or second every game.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: So like they're, they've been amazing.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: You're right.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's what he does is.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_01]: Do you see, you shouldn't have said this now because now everyone's gonna have to listen to five minutes of me.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'll keep it short.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: I promise like why he does is so extraordinarily like amazing and he makes a look routine like that fumble he forced an album cover to kill it.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's always making a play right like I think Robert Sala is using him in an interesting way and we haven't seen the typical Fred Warner thing, which is that the myth I mean we sort of have right like offenses are focusing more on the edges.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: Why does that happen against the 49ers and not know where to go in the middle exactly right like.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think people don't understand like in the modern NFL, especially with the like too high safety look, that's where you like offenses want to live in the middle of the field.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: That is where you're throwing the ball.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_01]: As you want to hit like the intermediate part in breaking, slant routes like curls with your tight.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like get people in space quarterback has great vision, arm strength is not as necessary.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's your money zone.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Most teams.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like Ford, that's how the 49ers get you.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: But Fred Warner's back there, uh, look somewhere else, focus on those cornerbacks, try to hit those deep shots because you're not, I mean, oh, he's he's been so good in D winters has been electric.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: They just get it right like they I don't know what it is in the water is in Santa Clara.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I had gotten it around there, but I'm going to have to be in a lot taller personally, but that's just me.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: And like they, um, they had they have the position down for this defense.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, like, I think without question, if you have to like, this is my last sort of like thing on this, if you have to chart a line of like,
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: The definition of how to play linebacker in the NFL at a given time, right?
- 43:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to start somewhat modern because I don't have enough like definitive expertise to like say something about the 1980s, like, and I don't know, but like Ray Lewis for that rough and tumble, like, wake 1990s early 2000s.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: Patrick Willis for the changing of
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: I would argue like if Navarro moment didn't get hurt, it would have been him, but not the hearing or there, you can go like Luke Cheekly Bobby Wagner for sort of playing the
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: position that way.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: And now it's Fred Warner, like it's it's just Fred Warner.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_01]: He is, if you could design a linebacker to play in the NFL right now, you would design Fred Warner because he's fast enough to cover receivers.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's fat.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_01]: He's strong enough to defeat blocks.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: You can cover tight ends with the best of them.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't even talk about his third down like past defense on Joann Johnson.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: He played that like a corner.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_01]: He is like.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's amazing and he plays a position that doesn't get him in love, like respect, I think, because it's like not flashy, but he is the backbone, right?
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like Nick Bosa makes the big plays.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get me wrong.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want me to learn more?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_01]: Great corner.
- 44:28[SPEAKER_01]: But the 49ers defensive ethos.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Fundamentally works because Fred Warner's in the middle of the field.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: He is what allows this entire defense to operate, he's sort of the like the spoke by which the entire real spins and like he's amazing.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so I'm so glad you found it out for Robert because I he like he played so well and you're right like my initial reaction was just yeah it's friend like that's what he does course it is that's how that's how he did yeah of course he like.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: change the game.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: How would he not?
- 45:01[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's what he does in a weekly basis.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's criminal that he hasn't wanted defensive player the year award.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he'll get one by the end of his career.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's just, he's too good not to get.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'll stop now because.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but the line of thought there was I was thinking about the Mac Jones fumble and it made me think of The other fumble and I was like, oh, yeah, we're going to talk about this.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: Also, do you see the crazy stats being of which is like Alvin Cameras fumbled like,
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: The number of, he's fumbled four times against the 49ers and the like four times in the rest of his career against everyone else.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: That is, I did not see that.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's, it might have been, I don't think it was four and four, but it was like four times against the 49ers and then a relatively low number against everyone else for the entirety of his NFL career and he's been around for a lot for a while now and Fred Warner's forced two out of those four.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: So good.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god like yeah, I mean like and like and like do you enters was really an important part of that fumble too because he kind of held he holds Kamara up off the ground to kind of help like because if he if he just kind of lets him go then he goes to the ground and it's not and it's not a fumble But the fact that he has he kind of held him up a little bit
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: allowed Fred to come in and punch it out and make a thing.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then it worked out.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: So it was nice.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: Good brand.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: Good job.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: Can't forget.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: We can't forget your bit.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: You have your, you have your bit.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody has their bit.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_00]: And that's yours.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_00]: And we can't, I can't let you lose it.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I feel, I feel refreshed.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you can go ahead and call me when you're done.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I think this is not this is another example of it wasn't the prettiest win.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: There's still a lot to clean up, but at the same time, this team is going to get better just by the fact that eventually players will be getting back, right?
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's it's not going to be
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we talked about this and we'll continue to talk about it.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the markers are up and it comes back and he slides in there and suddenly, you know, he makes Kendrick Dorn who looked solid on Sunday, your fourth wide receiver.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then in a couple of weeks, Brandon I, it comes back and he makes
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: and he makes Joanne Jennings and Ricky Pierce all we've looked great so far wide receivers two and three in the Mark Stravinson is now four and who knows what happens with the bottom of the tip chart at that point that'll be a fun game for somebody else to figure out not us because we didn't ever get hired for the job that we said we would work.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just saying.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to add something.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_01]: You're totally right.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_01]: And we've been talking about the offense.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_01]: Malik Mustafa is coming back this year too.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's like Mustafa was a revelation as a rookie at safety.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, like, their reinforcements are on the way.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: And the hope was they would weather the storm.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: And like, I mean, it's cost them quite a bit.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_01]: But they're weathering it right now.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully they'll continue to do so.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: But like, anyway, I just wanted to throw in that like,
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then the five rookies that they drafted that are all playing a pretty heavy that are all playing a part this season on the defensive side of the ball are hopefully going to continue to get better as the season goes along and you know that's another thing we talked about a lot too is just like how dependent they are on this rookie class to be good
- 48:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they haven't been perfect so far, but I think early returns on that are like, yeah, these are good players like they did a good they they seem to have made good picks with the guys that they got and they'll hopefully again get better and better season goes along and by the end of the year they're going to be.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: looking at all solid and we're going to have players come back and this will be a lot different team as we get closer and closer to the playoffs and so it's kind of like the thing that strikes me is it's sort of a slightly altered version of that thing you were talking about last time and that you talked about a lot last year and the year before which is like
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: You just want to do what you can to prepare for the playoffs and in some ways this is like Do what you can to stay as healthy as you can so that when the reinforcements come in that you're like So you're at the like top of your game peak performance peak health like at the exact right time And hopefully you can ride that into a good playoff run.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's what that's that's what the mindset of this team has to be for this year
- 50:00[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, and I think, you know, they're they're well on their way.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, early early returns, they're like B plus games, B games, but like, they haven't won B games in a while.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's that is the thing.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think we should take.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: They like they only won six games last year because they couldn't win a a beer or a seed for a seed game.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like that was just the case.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_01]: So like, I mean, like, like you said earlier in this episode, right?
- 50:29[SPEAKER_01]: They're learning how to win ugly and that's important.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's a skill you need into NFL.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: You got to win ugly now if they start winning clean then, you know, or it's the bandwagon is like, it's full steam ahead, really, I'm not stopping for anyone.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right now, I think it's like like you're saying right get healthy build up continue to progress bank the wins you have because of the fourth place schedule and just like,
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: take advantage of the fact that you were well positioned because of last year, so that when you hit the playoffs right, you are as good as you're gonna be and ready to go.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_01]: And if they do that, you know, sky's the limit.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, indeed.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well said.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's just good as good a spot as any to end on.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: We will be back later in the week to discuss the Cardinals game.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully by the time you hear from us again, we'll have more information about who the quarterback will be and who else will be ready to play in that particular game.
