- 1:16Speaker 2: we do it, especially on Fridays. Right It's our favorite
- 1:19Speaker 2: day of the week because I get to get my

- 1:30Speaker 2: money wins. Miss beck Sayeed is going to be sharing
- 1:32Speaker 2: her broke tips, and we're going to be helping to
- 1:34Speaker 2: answer a juicy money dilemma, which this week is all
- 1:37Speaker 2: about whether you should wait to lodge your tax return
- 1:40Speaker 2: until after the official twenty percent off Hex announcement, which
- 1:45Speaker 2: I've had a lot of dms about, and something that
- 1:48Speaker 2: you slid into our DMS legitimately about was what should
- 1:52Speaker 2: you do if you found out that your colleague is
- 1:54Speaker 2: earning twenty five percent more than you because you saw
- 1:58Speaker 2: their pay slip and you weren't meant to you do
- 2:00Speaker 2: the same. Damn job.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Oh I hate it.
- 2:04Speaker 2: But before we get there, how are your weeks? It's
- 2:06Speaker 2: been lovely? When did I do?
- 2:08Speaker 4: Oh? I saw Beetlejuice. I know we spoke about that
- 2:10Speaker 4: a few weeks ago. It was wonderful. Highly recommend it
- 2:13Speaker 4: to anyone. I do. I like it. I actually think
- 2:16Speaker 4: you would because it's it's very comedy infused, like it's
- 2:19Speaker 4: not a traditional musical, and there's like lots going on,
- 2:23Speaker 4: like there's just all this stuff like I don't want
- 2:26Speaker 4: to spoil it, but like, lots of things happen, but
- 2:28Speaker 4: it's like fun, it's very fun. Oh my god. The
- 2:31Speaker 4: two leads were unbelievably talented. I would highly recommend it.
- 2:34Speaker 4: They were doing ninety nine dollar tickets, so okay, okay,
- 2:37Speaker 4: money win, money win.
- 2:38Speaker 1: For you guys.
- 2:39Speaker 4: There.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's a musical.
- 2:40Speaker 4: It is a musical, Okay, okay. I haven't seen the movie,
- 2:42Speaker 4: so you know, I don't think you have to have
- 2:43Speaker 4: seen the movie to appreciate it.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Oh that's good to know.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I also haven't seen the movie.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Maybe we can watch it together.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I'm more than welcome or like, I welcome the idea
- 2:51Speaker 2: of watching it together. But I'm so boring that, Like
- 2:54Speaker 2: I'm not a movie girl. I'm a reality TV girl.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And even then I have to scroll on my phone. Yeah,
- 2:59Speaker 2: like I just I wish I was called like just
- 3:01Speaker 2: a got preatchy.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Culture.
- 3:04Speaker 2: How was Yeah, I'm not culture. How was your week back? Yeah?
- 3:08Speaker 2: It was nice, it was chill.
- 3:10Speaker 3: It's I've been like live love laughing, yeah, live love
- 3:13Speaker 3: laughing and on and off sick for like a million years,
- 3:17Speaker 3: gone through it be gone. You know, sometimes you just
- 3:20Speaker 3: just be like that, which is totally fine because I
- 3:22Speaker 3: feel like I feel like my house is also kind
- 3:25Speaker 3: of sick, so I feel like that's yeah, just like
- 3:27Speaker 3: you just reinfect each other. Yeah, exactly exactly, So we're
- 3:32Speaker 3: in this like cycle right now. But it's also just
- 3:35Speaker 3: been really cozy.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And nice and and yeah, just just loving life. What
- 3:39Speaker 2: about VD No, honestly also loving life. I didn't grow
- 3:43Speaker 2: to beetle Juice. A lot of the team did, though.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I feel like you rallied the troops and you were
- 3:47Speaker 2: like team outing, and I was like, how fun back.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Do you know?
- 3:51Speaker 2: I was a little bit jealous though, because like everyone
- 3:53Speaker 2: on the team has come back and they're like, oh,
- 3:55Speaker 2: it was really good, and I'm like, was it it
- 3:57Speaker 2: mus be nice? Anyway?
- 3:59Speaker 3: It was.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a busy week, a good week. I
- 4:03Speaker 2: feel like since thirty June, as you guys know, also
- 4:06Speaker 2: run a finance company, I've been able to have a
- 4:08Speaker 2: little bit more of a breather, which has been nice
- 4:11Speaker 2: to like take a step back, take a breath. I
- 4:13Speaker 2: have been sharing on my own social media actually at
- 4:16Speaker 2: the moment that I'm selling my house, and so that's
- 4:20Speaker 2: just keeping us quite chaotic, like because we're trying to
- 4:23Speaker 2: pack up the house to move. But then we're also
- 4:26Speaker 2: in the process of working out, well which furniture stays
- 4:29Speaker 2: in the house for it to like be styled up
- 4:31Speaker 2: and look really nice to sell. Which furniture do we
- 4:34Speaker 2: need to get rid of? So there's like a process
- 4:36Speaker 2: of like what do we move out of the house,
- 4:38Speaker 2: what don't we where do we put it? What does
- 4:40Speaker 2: that look like?
- 4:40Speaker 4: Seal it? What do we do with it?
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 4:42Speaker 4: Do we sell it?
- 4:42Speaker 2: Do we keep it?
- 4:43Speaker 3: You know?
- 4:44Speaker 2: What would a new house needs? You know what I mean?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Just like all of these things. And then also I
- 4:48Speaker 2: have a baby, and then we've got like three pets,
- 4:50Speaker 2: which is driving the reason. So for those of you
- 4:52Speaker 2: playing along at home, I'm selling our house because we
- 4:55Speaker 2: want to upgrade our house at some point soon and
- 4:58Speaker 2: we this is again very privileged to have this option.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I own a second house on the Mornington Peninsula, and
- 5:04Speaker 2: my husband and I are moving there while we sell
- 5:07Speaker 2: our primary residence because I just cannot fathom the idea
- 5:12Speaker 2: of working full time, having a one and a half
- 5:15Speaker 2: year old, three pets, and doing open for home inspections,
- 5:19Speaker 2: because like I best, I promise you if you think
- 5:23Speaker 2: my home is beautiful, all the time, you are wrong.
- 5:26Speaker 2: There is duplo from I don't even know where all
- 5:31Speaker 2: this duplow came from. It is everywhere, it does, and
- 5:35Speaker 2: like duplo, it's like the bigger.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Version of Lego, Like.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yep, I've got a train track running under my couch
- 5:43Speaker 2: at the moment. Like there's just everything everywhere. And this
- 5:46Speaker 2: morning when I got in the shower, my husband had
- 5:49Speaker 2: been up for a few hours before me, there was
- 5:51Speaker 2: half a banana just sitting on the floor in the
- 5:53Speaker 2: shower waiting for where did that come from? And it
- 5:59Speaker 2: turns out that my husband had given our baby a banana,
- 6:01Speaker 2: and my husband thought that the baby ate at all
- 6:03Speaker 2: at that and Harvey was like, oh, I was just
- 6:05Speaker 2: storing it in the shower. So later anyway, So like
- 6:09Speaker 2: life is chaos. It is good, but it is Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's really stressful selling your house. So anyway, the plug
- 6:15Speaker 2: there was I'm sharing the whole process of selling my house.
- 6:18Speaker 2: As you guys know, I work in the property space already,
- 6:21Speaker 2: and I just feel like there's not enough transparency of like, well,
- 6:24Speaker 2: what does it cost to sell your house? How do
- 6:27Speaker 2: you prepare for that? Like, also, how are we buying
- 6:30Speaker 2: a new house? What will that look like? And like, yeah,
- 6:34Speaker 2: I think the transparency hopefully will be welcomed fantastic. Anyway,
- 6:39Speaker 2: I would like to read you guys a five star
- 6:42Speaker 2: review before we do like money wins and broke Tips.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Would that be okay?
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yes?
- 6:46Speaker 5: Please?
- 6:46Speaker 4: I would love that. Okay.
- 6:47Speaker 2: So this one's from Amy Lee Lauren cute name. I
- 6:50Speaker 2: don't know if her name's amy Lee Lauren or Lauren
- 6:52Speaker 2: is her surname. I've spent a long time thinking about
- 6:55Speaker 2: this because like, girl, are you related to Ralph Lauren?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Is that what it is?
- 6:59Speaker 4: Lovely?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Anyway? She says Deep Dives are the best we know,
- 7:04Speaker 2: don't we? She says, my favorite episodes are the Deep Dives.
- 7:08Speaker 2: The three girls always keep me super engaged and I
- 7:11Speaker 2: love to learn new things. Oh, I just thought that
- 7:14Speaker 2: was a really short but sweet one.
- 7:16Speaker 4: So thank you Amy. Let those reviews to keep them coming, Queens, please.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Do, because honestly, this is like a shameless plug. If
- 7:25Speaker 2: you love She's on the money. One of the best
- 7:27Speaker 2: ways you can support us is obviously sharing it with
- 7:30Speaker 2: your friends, but leaving a review or even hitting subscribe,
- 7:34Speaker 2: because the algorithm sees that people are subscribing and liking
- 7:38Speaker 2: this content, so they push it to more people that
- 7:40Speaker 2: they think might look like you, like, you know, data wise,
- 7:43Speaker 2: so that maybe we could get some more friends.
- 7:46Speaker 4: And it's free, doesn't customate literally.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Free money win, all right, Jessica, Money wins, Money wins
- 7:53Speaker 2: had confessions, all right.
- 7:56Speaker 4: First, only think I've got money when from Rosa, who
- 7:58Speaker 4: said she used Flybys dollars to pay for her petrol,
- 8:01Speaker 4: so I tank feel up was free. Very clever. We
- 8:05Speaker 4: love that. Next, I've got a money loss, but toptually
- 8:08Speaker 4: a money win from Danny. Danny said money loss. I
- 8:10Speaker 4: lost my earrings down the drain. That's so stressful, very
- 8:14Speaker 4: stress Okay, jumped in there and said, have you opened
- 8:17Speaker 4: up the spend because there's a very good chance that
- 8:19Speaker 4: they're sitting in there, and it's relatively easy to do.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Spend is a little bit unners, which god true because
- 8:25Speaker 4: it's shaped like an asset like. Because it's flat, things
- 8:28Speaker 4: can often get caught there. So hopefully Daddy opens it
- 8:30Speaker 4: up and finds them sitting there waiting for her.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Daddy Danny, I suspected, saying Danny either, okay, I just
- 8:38Speaker 3: want to make sure someone's into something.
- 8:42Speaker 5: I was getting very excited.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Next, I've got a money in from Erin who said
- 8:45Speaker 4: she got her birthday voucher from the body shop and
- 8:47Speaker 4: the product she wanted were on sale, so she didn't
- 8:49Speaker 4: have to pay anything. It was all free. We love that.
- 8:52Speaker 4: And then I've also got a money in from Fiona
- 8:53Speaker 4: who said she ordered some sheets. They didn't end up
- 8:56Speaker 4: having the color that she wanted in stock, so instead
- 8:58Speaker 4: she was able to order a different color, but they
- 9:01Speaker 4: honored the cheaper price. Okay, thank you, save your sell
- 9:04Speaker 4: one hundred and two dollars. Thank you for coming money, genuinely,
- 9:08Speaker 4: very much so. And then lastly this week, I've got
- 9:10Speaker 4: a money win from Amy who said she's heading overseas
- 9:13Speaker 4: later in the year and she's been keeping an eye
- 9:16Speaker 4: on a tour that she really wants to do, hoping
- 9:18Speaker 4: that it would go on sale, and it did. She
- 9:20Speaker 4: checked up eight hundred.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Dollars I didn't even know went on sale. That's kind
- 9:23Speaker 2: of what I thought.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I thought, Oh, that's a good little thing to know,
- 9:26Speaker 4: is you know, if you're doing like a kentiki or
- 9:28Speaker 4: a top deck or any other things, keep an eye
- 9:31Speaker 4: out for some price changes.
- 9:33Speaker 3: We do.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Indeed, great beck Ci ed, what have you got when
- 9:37Speaker 2: it comes to broke tips for us this week, So this.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Week I've got first one comes from Courtney, who says,
- 9:43Speaker 3: my drive Hero is an app that tracks you're driving
- 9:46Speaker 3: and you earn money for speed and distraction.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I'm assuming not for.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Not speeding and not driving distractions.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yes, because in my head I'm like, I could have
- 9:56Speaker 3: been making so much money.
- 10:00Speaker 5: Stricture always feeding. I'm just kidding, don't. Definitely don't do that.
- 10:03Speaker 2: So basically you're.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Getting paid to drive safely and can just cash it
- 10:07Speaker 3: out into your account. The free version does have ads,
- 10:10Speaker 3: but you can pay to remove them if you think
- 10:12Speaker 3: it's worthwhile.
- 10:13Speaker 2: That's so such a good idea. That's actually really good money.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Make money doing something you should be doing anyway, Yes, exactly.
- 10:22Speaker 3: The next one comes from Kate, who says, rather than
- 10:24Speaker 3: chucking out the crusts at the end of a loaf
- 10:26Speaker 3: of bread, I freeze them in a bag together and
- 10:28Speaker 3: then use them for meals. I don't mind eating the crust.
- 10:31Speaker 3: With example, to dip soup, you can make.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Creutons very out of mind and also grass lading my
- 10:38Speaker 2: child into thinking that that's the best bit special bread.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Only two bits you gonna have this or do you
- 10:47Speaker 2: think do you think Dad will get this? Do you
- 10:51Speaker 2: want it?
- 10:53Speaker 4: I love it?
- 10:54Speaker 2: That's so good, just like keeps the old Regon. I'm like,
- 10:58Speaker 2: crusts really.
- 10:59Speaker 5: Aren't that different you and I are they?
- 11:01Speaker 4: I completely disagree, But do you know what do you know?
- 11:04Speaker 2: It's only the crust on like a wonder white that
- 11:07Speaker 2: I'm like, nah, I could pass. But the crust of
- 11:10Speaker 2: like a sour dough loaf that is valuable Wheelers, That
- 11:13Speaker 2: is good. That is the best bit. No, when you like, oh,
- 11:17Speaker 2: get a fresh loaf of bread, and then you like
- 11:19Speaker 2: get the crust, and then you add equal amounts of butter. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 2: a little sprinkle of salt.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I got a little shiver just that.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Anyway.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Sorry, no, no, no, I mean but by that, I
- 11:30Speaker 3: mean like, I don't really think they make your hair
- 11:31Speaker 3: curly and all those kind of other myths. Got it
- 11:34Speaker 3: only get better.
- 11:34Speaker 2: I wouldn't even think of that. I was just thinking
- 11:36Speaker 2: of my stomach.
- 11:38Speaker 4: I was on a normal bit of bread, but a
- 11:40Speaker 4: crust on the end. You don't have French bage middle bit.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I just I don't think they're more nutritiously
- 11:46Speaker 3: It's okay if you don't want them anyway, my broke tip.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yes, this is probably silly one, but does it eat
- 11:52Speaker 2: the crusts? Because that would be silly to repeat it
- 11:55Speaker 2: broke tip.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Are you know what I'm gonna say, It's kind of similar, okay,
- 11:59Speaker 3: and you'll maybe figure out why. So I was in
- 12:02Speaker 3: Kmart and I was like, you know, getting a clicking
- 12:04Speaker 3: collect and then I was like waiting and just like
- 12:06Speaker 3: looking around and you know those big like metal what
- 12:09Speaker 3: are they called, like cabinets.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I guess I don't know where this is going, so
- 12:12Speaker 2: I have no idea what we wean.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Well, it's like it's kind of like a cage, but
- 12:16Speaker 5: it's like open, it's like quite tall.
- 12:17Speaker 2: It's like you know, there's like, oh yeah, shelves on it.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yeah okay, yeah yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 3: And there's always just like random things that I'd never
- 12:23Speaker 3: bothered to look at before. They're also in Woolworths, just
- 12:25Speaker 3: a random sections with like things that are like poorly
- 12:28Speaker 3: glad wrapped together, like duct tape together, and big stickers
- 12:31Speaker 3: with specials like.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Britans and seconds, damage stock and stuff.
- 12:35Speaker 3: And I was like, oh my god, I forgot this exists,
- 12:37Speaker 3: and so I wanted to like just this is not
- 12:41Speaker 3: what I'm suggesting, but if you have your eye on something,
- 12:44Speaker 3: just see if it's there, or see if it ends
- 12:47Speaker 3: up there. Just always check that part of kmart to
- 12:49Speaker 3: see what kind of specials you can get.
- 12:51Speaker 5: There's so many cheap.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Things, like a camera for like fifty cents.
- 12:53Speaker 3: I was like, this is because I guess you can't
- 12:56Speaker 3: really sell it at full price if someone's returned it
- 12:58Speaker 3: and then the package looks really dodgy.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Just like, just have a look and see what you
- 13:02Speaker 2: can find.
- 13:02Speaker 5: I think it's great, and I'm not suggesting this, but
- 13:05Speaker 5: if you do return something and just.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Come back and see later if it's on the rack,
- 13:09Speaker 4: and come back.
- 13:10Speaker 5: For it if you really want to buy it.
- 13:12Speaker 2: This reminds me and completely rogue. When I was in
- 13:15Speaker 2: grade nine, I used to work at the Rosebud Target
- 13:19Speaker 2: doesn't exist anymore, and someone I don't know how they
- 13:23Speaker 2: managed to, but like would sometimes get returns. I think
- 13:25Speaker 2: the target policy went way back when I was in
- 13:28Speaker 2: grade nine, was like, if you had the receipt, they
- 13:30Speaker 2: would do a return. Like I don't think there was
- 13:32Speaker 2: a time limit on it, because one time I got
- 13:35Speaker 2: a ferby when I was in grade nine and I
- 13:38Speaker 2: desperately wanted a Ferby when I was younger, like grade five,
- 13:41Speaker 2: me would have been frothing yeah, but I didn't, so
- 13:44Speaker 2: obviously I had to buy this one that got returned,
- 13:46Speaker 2: bought it for five cents.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 13:49Speaker 2: That's so that's a money win. And that was definitely
- 13:55Speaker 2: not a waste of money at all. I definitely got
- 13:58Speaker 2: a lot of value out of that Ferby.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, anyway, and maybe bought it full priced,
- 14:03Speaker 3: returned it and then got it for five cents.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Who could say, yeah, do you know what? I didn't,
- 14:08Speaker 2: but I should have. You should have. I should have
- 14:10Speaker 2: because that would have been gaming the system. Anyway, Let's
- 14:13Speaker 2: go to a really quick break because I want to
- 14:15Speaker 2: get into the juicy stuff we have been getting. I
- 14:17Speaker 2: would say, hounded by you guys asking us, and this
- 14:20Speaker 2: is a very valid question, should be be waiting to
- 14:23Speaker 2: lodge our tax returns? Because that twenty percent off? Like
- 14:27Speaker 2: you know how they're taking twenty percent off? Hex announcement
- 14:30Speaker 2: hasn't officially like rolled over. I've got an answer, don't worry.
- 14:34Speaker 2: You have to stick around for it though. And also
- 14:36Speaker 2: there's something juicy that you slid into our DMS about guys,
- 14:40Speaker 2: what do you do when you find out that your
- 14:42Speaker 2: colleague going is twenty five percent more than you for
- 14:44Speaker 2: the same damn job. But you found out because you
- 14:47Speaker 2: saw a pay slip and you shouldn't have seen their
- 14:49Speaker 2: play slip. So they don't know that you know, and
- 14:51Speaker 2: your boss doesn't know that you know. But you have
- 14:53Speaker 2: this information, and what do you do anyway? Don't go anywhere?
- 15:00Speaker 4: Well, welcome back everybody. Let's take a listen to this
- 15:03Speaker 4: week's money dilemma.
- 15:06Speaker 6: Hi.

- 15:21Speaker 2: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 15:23Speaker 2: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 15:26Speaker 2: this week's money dilemma.
- 15:30Speaker 7: Hi, guys, I've got a question for tax time. With
- 15:33Speaker 7: the upcoming legislation of the government coming in to reduce
- 15:37Speaker 7: our hextap by twenty percent, should we wait until that
- 15:42Speaker 7: hits before lodging our tax return. Let me know your thoughts.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Thanks, It's a very good question.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Because I feel like a lot of people forget that
- 15:50Speaker 4: you can't submit your tax return on July first, as
- 15:54Speaker 4: much as I would love to, because we don't have
- 15:56Speaker 4: our stuff together, Like, yeah, you need all your documents
- 15:58Speaker 4: and stuff, but I actually have no idea.
- 16:00Speaker 2: And even if you're like the most organized person ever,
- 16:02Speaker 2: because Jessica Ricci, if she could, she would, but like,
- 16:05Speaker 2: I don't, as your employer, Jess even have my end
- 16:08Speaker 2: of year financials until thirty June happens, and then I
- 16:11Speaker 2: have to wait until my accountant does all of the
- 16:14Speaker 2: stuff that he needs to do to go Okay, cool,
- 16:16Speaker 2: We're going to like review Jess's pay and make sure
- 16:18Speaker 2: that she was paid what she was meant to pay,
- 16:20Speaker 2: and then we can give her her like yeah tax statement,
- 16:23Speaker 2: and that takes like two weeks. Of course, they'd have
- 16:26Speaker 2: to really annoying. I get it. I found him as well.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I'm very annoying. But you just can't do it immediately.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Is it rude if I just dive in and answer this,
- 16:35Speaker 2: because I feel like if I ask you, beg you'll
- 16:37Speaker 2: be like, I don't have a hex that I'm paying off,
- 16:40Speaker 2: And I do, but I don't have a degree.
- 16:42Speaker 5: So but I didn't know that was a twenty percent
- 16:44Speaker 5: no idea.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I really good rised you're getting twenty percent off your
- 16:48Speaker 2: hex I see anxiety, And yes, you don't have any
- 16:51Speaker 2: hextst don't because you're smarter than a lot of people.
- 16:54Speaker 4: I just wasn't built for school. But I'm excited to
- 16:56Speaker 4: learn about what this means. I can tell my boyfriend
- 16:59Speaker 4: when I go home, because he have a lot of hextet.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I also have a lot of hex stets. So you
- 17:03Speaker 2: best believe that this was in my interest and because
- 17:07Speaker 2: I love you. I also called the ato. Oh oh,
- 17:10Speaker 2: and you called the ato. You have to spend a
- 17:13Speaker 2: lot of time on whole time, so you'll better be grateful. Anyway,
- 17:19Speaker 2: I'm going to give you a little bit of background
- 17:21Speaker 2: on the twenty percent off legislation because beck you didn't
- 17:24Speaker 2: know about it, and I feel like some people in
- 17:25Speaker 2: our community would have been like, Oh, I've seen it,
- 17:27Speaker 2: but I don't know what it means. Do I have
- 17:29Speaker 2: to apply for it? No, you don't. It's automatic. So
- 17:32Speaker 2: we obviously went through an election recently, which is important.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I'll come to that in hot second. But Labor have
- 17:38Speaker 2: said that they will give us twenty percent off our hex.
- 17:42Speaker 2: A lot of people voted for them because that's a
- 17:44Speaker 2: really good deal and they were like, great, no worries.
- 17:46Speaker 2: They have also come out and said that that's actually
- 17:50Speaker 2: one of the first pieces of legislation they want to introduce.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Now they haven't done that yet, not because they're lazy,
- 17:57Speaker 2: but because they've been busy getting all of their ducks
- 17:59Speaker 2: in a row. They've been changing literally everybody who's been
- 18:03Speaker 2: in Parliament for this new government, and they actually haven't
- 18:06Speaker 2: even met yet. So their first meeting is on July
- 18:09Speaker 2: the twenty second, which is actually next week, and at
- 18:12Speaker 2: that point they have said this is actually a top
- 18:14Speaker 2: priority for us because we promised it and now we
- 18:18Speaker 2: need to deliver, which honestly, that doesn't always happen with
- 18:21Speaker 2: government now. I feel like sometimes they promise stuff and
- 18:23Speaker 2: then they're like, oh, yeah, so we said that, but
- 18:27Speaker 2: what we meant was so anyway, I'm excited about this
- 18:31Speaker 2: and this will be the first time that government sits
- 18:34Speaker 2: or Parliament sits since their election. And they have said
- 18:38Speaker 2: that they're going to apply twenty percent retrospectively to any
- 18:45Speaker 2: balance remaining in your account on the first of June,
- 18:49Speaker 2: so if you paid it off earlier this year. Sorry,
- 18:51Speaker 2: it's not going to apply to you. You have to
- 18:53Speaker 2: have been in the like, you have to have money
- 18:57Speaker 2: in your account. Essentially, you have to owe the money
- 18:59Speaker 2: on the first of June, and that is before indexation
- 19:04Speaker 2: was applied. Yeah, that's important because a lot of questions
- 19:08Speaker 2: that we got was, oh my god, are they dragging
- 19:10Speaker 2: this out and not giving me the twenty percent off
- 19:13Speaker 2: and then it's going to index and then I'll owe
- 19:15Speaker 2: more money, And yes, I'll get my twenty percent off,
- 19:17Speaker 2: but I'll get twenty percent off more money, which will
- 19:20Speaker 2: actually not be as good as if you had applied
- 19:23Speaker 2: it before indexation happened. So they are applying it before
- 19:26Speaker 2: indexation applied. I think that's pretty sexy, to be honest.
- 19:30Speaker 2: They didn't have to do that from my perspective. They
- 19:33Speaker 2: could have still given us our twenty percent off back. Sure, Like, Sorry,
- 19:36Speaker 2: it happened after that date and we would have had
- 19:38Speaker 2: to just swallow it. Yeah, right, shout out to the government.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Shout out that. Honestly, I see what you're doing. I've
- 19:44Speaker 2: got a lot of thoughts on other areas, but right
- 19:46Speaker 2: now you're doing very well here. Anything paid off before June. Sorry,
- 19:50Speaker 2: if you already did it, no discount, you're not getting
- 19:52Speaker 2: money back. That's just not going to happen. It's not
- 19:55Speaker 2: the way it works, I see. And let's be honest,
- 19:58Speaker 2: this legislation could take a few months to pass because
- 20:01Speaker 2: when the government proposes something, they're not going to sit
- 20:03Speaker 2: on the twenty second and be like tick box, no worries.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Do you want to just give them their money? Now,
- 20:08Speaker 2: there's a lot of background stuff that has to happen
- 20:11Speaker 2: to make that happen, and as with any legislation, there's,
- 20:14Speaker 2: honestly there's a possibility that lots of people in Parliament
- 20:18Speaker 2: could be like that's bullshit, we don't want that to happen. Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 2: and then it doesn't pass at all and you don't
- 20:24Speaker 2: get your twenty percent. So we think that's very very
- 20:27Speaker 2: unlikely to happen. But as I said before, it is
- 20:31Speaker 2: a risk. Yeah. I called up the ATO for you
- 20:33Speaker 2: and also for me, and they said paying your hex
- 20:37Speaker 2: is actually about the threshold, not the balance. So the
- 20:41Speaker 2: threshold for the twenty twenty four to twenty twenty five
- 20:44Speaker 2: financial year, which is the line that's just passed, is
- 20:47Speaker 2: fifty four hundred and thirty five dollars, but for your balance,
- 20:53Speaker 2: even if you are paying it throughout the year, you've
- 20:56Speaker 2: ticked the box that you have a heck stet. So
- 20:58Speaker 2: like when you join a business like Becky would have
- 21:01Speaker 2: ticked the box to say, yeah, I have HEX, and
- 21:02Speaker 2: then your employee starts paying it off. It's already coming
- 21:05Speaker 2: out of your pay so that money is held, and
- 21:08Speaker 2: then the balance is actually calculated at the end of
- 21:10Speaker 2: financial year, which I don't think a lot of people know.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I sorry, they're collecting it, they don't actually pay it off,
- 21:17Speaker 2: and then at the end of the financial year they
- 21:18Speaker 2: do it in one lump.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Some that's so interesting. Let's me and I suppose.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Kind of I find it annoying because like I'm the
- 21:25Speaker 2: type of person and I'm like, ha, girl, you're just
- 21:27Speaker 2: holding my money. You want to check it? Yeah, well
- 21:30Speaker 2: I want to check it, but I also want it
- 21:31Speaker 2: paid off. I don't want things lauding over like if
- 21:34Speaker 2: I've gone and said anyway, I just other thoughts like sorry, sorry,
- 21:38Speaker 2: back on track. No, this is me getting off track.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I've just got thoughts and feelings. So the twenty percent
- 21:43Speaker 2: off would only be a factor in your tax return
- 21:47Speaker 2: if you're close to paying off your HEX and overpaid,
- 21:52Speaker 2: so like you were still paying it off and like
- 21:54Speaker 2: some people still do this, like they tick the box
- 21:57Speaker 2: to say they have HEX even when they don't have HEX.
- 21:59Speaker 2: And then the government goes and collects all of the
- 22:01Speaker 2: HEX and then you do your tax return and you
- 22:03Speaker 2: actually get all of that money back because there was
- 22:05Speaker 2: no HEX to pay off. And if you paid off
- 22:08Speaker 2: your HEX, let's pretend like you didn't really notice and
- 22:11Speaker 2: your HEX was quote paid off in January and you
- 22:13Speaker 2: were still contributing funds tax time, the government's going to
- 22:17Speaker 2: be like, oh, she stopped like this, she didn't know
- 22:19Speaker 2: usay anything after January. So they give you the money
- 22:22Speaker 2: that you paid to them back. Yeah, then obviously you
- 22:26Speaker 2: were owed. So in that case you'd get a return
- 22:29Speaker 2: money win. Otherwise, you are required to make the same
- 22:33Speaker 2: compulsory payments. You can't like withhold it from your employer
- 22:36Speaker 2: and say, hey, employer, can you not pay that like
- 22:38Speaker 2: I want it to be there. You are required to
- 22:40Speaker 2: make the same compulsory payment as dictated by the threshold
- 22:43Speaker 2: in the twenty four to twenty twenty five financial year,
- 22:47Speaker 2: not your balance. Yeah, so TLDR actually doesn't matter. Ah,
- 22:53Speaker 2: the government's going to just calculate it based on what
- 22:55Speaker 2: was in your account on the first of June, and
- 22:57Speaker 2: then they get a paid back. If they paid you back,
- 23:00Speaker 2: but you'd already paid it off on like the fifth
- 23:02Speaker 2: of June, you're going to getting a sweet refund if
- 23:04Speaker 2: you hadn't. It's going to just be off the amount
- 23:07Speaker 2: that was sitting in your account on the first of June.
- 23:09Speaker 2: So you don't need to do anything. You're going to
- 23:10Speaker 2: still be benefited. But if you are confused, or if
- 23:15Speaker 2: you are like, oh, the you mentioned the car spor
- 23:17Speaker 2: if like there's some wiggle room, talk to your accountant
- 23:21Speaker 2: and maybe they can go, oh, well, actually you are
- 23:23Speaker 2: one of the lucky ones that can X y Z yeah.
- 23:25Speaker 2: But for normal people like Beck and I, it doesn't
- 23:28Speaker 2: make a damn different.
- 23:29Speaker 5: I see, if you're confused it you don't have an
- 23:30Speaker 5: accounting because I feel like I never had one.
- 23:32Speaker 2: But she's on the money community is right there.
- 23:35Speaker 5: That's true. But and also you can probably find information
- 23:38Speaker 5: on the ideo.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Call the Bloody ato it actually it's wild. But like
- 23:44Speaker 2: people think that's crazy, you can just call them up.
- 23:47Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 23:47Speaker 5: It's crazy.
- 23:48Speaker 2: You just call them up and ask them tax questions.
- 23:51Speaker 2: What do you do on Sundays? On your board? This
- 23:53Speaker 2: not Sundays. It's actually nine to five Monday to Friday.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Actually I believe it's eight till five. You can call
- 23:58Speaker 2: them earlier, like the whole way I give. You're bored.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I really want to talk to the ade O. You can, yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 2: And I have done that a lot of times for
- 24:05Speaker 2: content because like the APO website can sometimes like I'm
- 24:08Speaker 2: not saying it's wrong, but like they might be a
- 24:10Speaker 2: little bit vague and like this is a very specific
- 24:13Speaker 2: question and when this will be calculated, and like there's
- 24:16Speaker 2: not a web page on how that's calculated, right, so
- 24:19Speaker 2: I have to call someone up there you go.
- 24:21Speaker 4: You don't threaten Victoria Divine with a good time.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Anyway. Anyway, I feel like that was really fun. But
- 24:28Speaker 2: what's more fun is gossip. And I feel like genuinely
- 24:32Speaker 2: sometimes in our dms, you'll send like a DM and
- 24:36Speaker 2: I'm like, that is juicy, and I can't wait to
- 24:38Speaker 2: tell all of my friends. And then I posted on
- 24:40Speaker 2: our Instagram story because you guys are all my friends,
- 24:42Speaker 2: and then you chime in with your opinions. It's just
- 24:45Speaker 2: so fun because to me The best type of gossip
- 24:47Speaker 2: is not about people we know. It's like, I want
- 24:49Speaker 2: to hear about what your hairdresser's son.
- 24:51Speaker 5: Did you know what I mean?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Like the secondhands, small town gossip.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Have you seen that? A deeply southern one? Oh? I
- 24:58Speaker 4: love her accent.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not only obsessed with that, but like obsessed
- 25:02Speaker 2: with her stories. Anyway. Would you like to hear the
- 25:05Speaker 2: DM we got this week?
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yes?
- 25:06Speaker 5: Please, yes, please?
- 25:08Speaker 2: This is going to piss you all off. Hey there,
- 25:11Speaker 2: I found one of my colleagues twenty twenty three pay
- 25:15Speaker 2: slips saved in our shared files. She obviously put it
- 25:18Speaker 2: there by accident.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I was shocked.
- 25:21Speaker 2: He was making twenty five percent more than me right
- 25:24Speaker 2: now but two years ago, so it was from twenty
- 25:27Speaker 2: twenty three. Oh since then, I know he's had another
- 25:31Speaker 2: pay rise because we've talked about it and we're in
- 25:34Speaker 2: the exact same role. But they're a male, they are
- 25:38Speaker 2: five years older than me. They do have an MBA.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I'm currently studying mine. I recently got a four and
- 25:45Speaker 2: a half percent rise, but it doesn't actually feel like
- 25:49Speaker 2: enough when I'm always taking on more responsibilities in the team.
- 25:54Speaker 2: I know experience matters, but how much of a gap
- 25:57Speaker 2: is actually fair? And how do I even bring this up?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Especially given how I found out, I'm feeling undervalued, unmotivated,
- 26:05Speaker 2: and honestly like I'm just being treated like cheap labor.
- 26:08Speaker 2: How would you guys approach this as well?
- 26:10Speaker 5: Pay secrecy is not a thing anymore, which I am
- 26:14Speaker 5: cheering about. It should never not.
- 26:16Speaker 2: But if it is in your contract right now, you
- 26:19Speaker 2: need to be very careful about what that looks like
- 26:22Speaker 2: because you have assigned contract with your employer, but it's
- 26:25Speaker 2: not allowed to be in future contracts and there's a
- 26:29Speaker 2: lot of round enforcement. But like, I don't want you
- 26:32Speaker 2: to be the first person to test that out and
- 26:34Speaker 2: have your employers see you. All right, So dumb the
- 26:37Speaker 2: whole pay secret, Yeah, I agree, dumb. It's such a
- 26:40Speaker 2: you will pay secrecy clause in if she's on the
- 26:43Speaker 2: money contract. It's just like, hey, we don't imagine you're like, hey,
- 26:46Speaker 2: V did you write this? Is so strange?
- 26:49Speaker 3: But I think like you don't have to say, well
- 26:50Speaker 3: you got that information. I feel like I would just
- 26:53Speaker 3: be like, I don't know, I've found out, but I
- 26:54Speaker 3: know that you get paid more I did. I know
- 26:56Speaker 3: it's really dumb, but I just would never tell anyone
- 26:58Speaker 3: how I found out. All would you just go to
- 26:59Speaker 3: your colleague? I feel like, yeah, good to my colleague.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I'm sorry you've got a shared drive with your colleague,
- 27:03Speaker 2: do you not.
- 27:04Speaker 3: It's very disheartening. It's so disheartening that this is still happening.
- 27:07Speaker 3: And it's like, what's more disheartening is that, like I
- 27:10Speaker 3: just fear people don't take.
- 27:11Speaker 5: It seriously enough.
- 27:12Speaker 3: And like if you were to go to your boss,
- 27:15Speaker 3: who may or may not be a male, and said,
- 27:18Speaker 3: do you know your concerns are that he's probably getting
- 27:20Speaker 3: paid more because, let's be honest, probably because he's a man,
- 27:23Speaker 3: It's like, no one's gonna take that seriously. Is so
- 27:25Speaker 3: it's so tiring, it's so exhausting, it's so disheartening, and
- 27:28Speaker 3: I'm just like almost as a part of me that's like, well,
- 27:30Speaker 3: it's always going to be this way.
- 27:31Speaker 5: It's so arbitrary. Men are not better than women. Women
- 27:34Speaker 5: are not better than men.
- 27:35Speaker 3: We're all intellectually exactly same, unless we like one studied more,
- 27:39Speaker 3: one more educated, Like, it's all about the person, it's
- 27:42Speaker 3: not about the gender.
- 27:43Speaker 5: It's just so why is it still a thing. I'm
- 27:46Speaker 5: so exhausted by it.
- 27:47Speaker 3: But anyway, I think that I've also really hated that
- 27:50Speaker 3: that whole, Like, you know, salaries based of experience, Like,
- 27:54Speaker 3: the role is the role.
- 27:55Speaker 5: You're still doing the same thing.
- 27:56Speaker 3: The role doesn't change based on Like maybe at the
- 27:59Speaker 3: start might be like, let's see how fast you get
- 28:02Speaker 3: kind of like into it, but once you're in it,
- 28:04Speaker 3: you're doing the same day to day. It's the same thing.
- 28:08Speaker 3: It doesn't matter how much experience you have, it doesn't
- 28:10Speaker 3: matter how much education you have. You're doing the same role.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Your past should not even be looked at. So maybe
- 28:17Speaker 3: it's because of experience, maybe it's because of the NBA,
- 28:20Speaker 3: but it doesn't make you more or less valuable if
- 28:22Speaker 3: you're doing the exact same role. And sounds like you're
- 28:25Speaker 3: taking on more responsibilities too, So I'm like, you should
- 28:28Speaker 3: be getting paid the same. Sorry, you should be getting
- 28:30Speaker 3: paid the same. Anyway, I don't know how to go
- 28:33Speaker 3: about it.
- 28:33Speaker 5: I think, talk to your assfit.
- 28:35Speaker 2: What are they going to do?
- 28:36Speaker 5: They probably might not take it seriously. I don't know.
- 28:38Speaker 5: It's so so silly.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Yes, you find out that the other partnership's manager in
- 28:43Speaker 2: our business that does not exist gets paid twenty five
- 28:46Speaker 2: percent more than you and they have been for the
- 28:48Speaker 2: last two years. What are you doing?
- 28:49Speaker 4: Oh, I would not be thrilled that much. I don't
- 28:53Speaker 4: think you even need to go to your colleague necessarily
- 28:55Speaker 4: because they do agree. It is a bit of an
- 28:57Speaker 4: awkward thing to bring up.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Oh I, Actually it's not their fault most that fall.
- 29:00Speaker 4: I accidentally saw your pay slip, And I will say
- 29:03Speaker 4: as much as yes, pay secrecy is in a thing,
- 29:05Speaker 4: like people still have a right to decide what information
- 29:08Speaker 4: they do and do not sh like I would hope,
- 29:10Speaker 4: like I would comfortably talk about my salary with anyone
- 29:12Speaker 4: on our team, but not everyone has that relationship with
- 29:15Speaker 4: their colleagues, and.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Like you're allowed to be private about that. So yes, Kase,
- 29:19Speaker 2: secrecy is now illegal to put into contracts. But like Jesse,
- 29:24Speaker 2: if I said how much do you earn it, you
- 29:25Speaker 2: didn't want to tell me? You don't owe me anything. Absolutely,
- 29:28Speaker 2: you have the right to talk about it if you
- 29:30Speaker 2: want to. No one's going to reprimand you for it.
- 29:31Speaker 2: But like, honestly, sometimes you don't want to tell your
- 29:34Speaker 2: colleague what your income is or how hard you've worked,
- 29:37Speaker 2: or it's just nobody's business. And like, I know that
- 29:41Speaker 2: you guys might be like, but they you talk about
- 29:42Speaker 2: talking about it all the time, and I do, and
- 29:45Speaker 2: I think that you should be sharing that if you're
- 29:47Speaker 2: comfortable to do so.
- 29:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely agree. So I think I would like
- 29:51Speaker 4: probably just bypass my colleague to be completely honest, and you're.
- 29:54Speaker 2: String to my boss right in the door.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not going to I'm kicking it down. I'm saying,
- 29:58Speaker 4: you me having a chat. And I agree with that,
- 30:01Speaker 4: Like I wouldn't. You don't need to tell them how
- 30:02Speaker 4: you know, you just know that's the important thing before
- 30:05Speaker 4: going in. I would be doing as I think we've
- 30:06Speaker 4: said this before, but like cross check your responsibilities against
- 30:09Speaker 4: their responsibilities. You know, you've said you're taking on a
- 30:12Speaker 4: lot of additional things. Perhaps that's happening for them as well.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Have as much information as you can going in.
- 30:16Speaker 2: And this is really scary.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Yeah, so have as much information going in and then say, hey,
- 30:22Speaker 4: can you please explain to me, Like I would kind
- 30:24Speaker 4: of put it on them and say, well, you've deemed
- 30:26Speaker 4: this person as you know, you're paying them this much more.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Can you explain to me what the reason for that is?
- 30:30Speaker 4: Because then it kind of puts the onus on them
- 30:32Speaker 4: to either say, oh, well, the NBA or they do
- 30:35Speaker 4: all this extra stuff or whatever, or did.
- 30:38Speaker 2: You realize X, Y and Z is part of their
- 30:40Speaker 2: responsibilities and you go, oh my god, I had no idea.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Like it kind of protects you a little bit, but
- 30:44Speaker 4: it also like theoretically, like if they can't justify it,
- 30:47Speaker 4: then they kind of look like an idiot and hopefully
- 30:49Speaker 4: that primes them to them go Okay, well, I think
- 30:52Speaker 4: the most reasonable thing to do is to match the salary.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Yep, agreed. I feel like I've had a lot of
- 30:58Speaker 2: people in our community in this situation, and research is
- 31:02Speaker 2: going to be your best friend. Like research the role,
- 31:05Speaker 2: work out what's going on. Honestly, I'm a bit cut
- 31:08Speaker 2: and dry with things like this, Like if I found
- 31:10Speaker 2: out that someone was genuinely or I felt like they
- 31:13Speaker 2: were taking advantage of me, even if they gave me
- 31:16Speaker 2: a salary increase because I asked, I don't know how
- 31:19Speaker 2: i'd feel about them moving forward. I feel like my
- 31:22Speaker 2: mum always used to say this to me growing up,
- 31:24Speaker 2: but I'm too black and white. She's like, you can't
- 31:26Speaker 2: live in the gray, Victoria. You need to learn that
- 31:28Speaker 2: sometimes there's this gray area and like I've just never
- 31:31Speaker 2: been able to do it. So I feel like once
- 31:33Speaker 2: I've written somebody off, sorry you're done. And so for
- 31:37Speaker 2: me personally, i'd be like, Okay, cool, you clearly undervalue me.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I'm going to find a new job. Yeah, I'm going
- 31:41Speaker 2: to work out what the hell's going on, because even
- 31:42Speaker 2: if you enjoy the job, clearly they don't value you
- 31:45Speaker 2: in the same way that they're valuing your colleague. If
- 31:47Speaker 2: you are correct, Yeah, but yeah, having a conversation about
- 31:51Speaker 2: what you want to be paid, I mean I'd probably
- 31:53Speaker 2: just walk in and be like, hey, so I was
- 31:54Speaker 2: thinking about this role, what it's valued at dumb my research,
- 31:56Speaker 2: and I actually think it's worth to pretend that your
- 31:59Speaker 2: colleague get paid a hundred I think it's worth one
- 32:01Speaker 2: hundred grand. And I'd be keeping up the sleep like
- 32:03Speaker 2: on my sleeve that I know that my colleague gets
- 32:05Speaker 2: paid that. And when they say, oh, we can't afford it,
- 32:07Speaker 2: we can't. You know that's not what's in budget for
- 32:09Speaker 2: that role, you'd be like, Brett gets paid that, So
- 32:12Speaker 2: I just thought it was fair to match it.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Are you guys get him with the hard stuff?
- 32:16Speaker 2: Like can you imagine how mortifying that would be if
- 32:19Speaker 2: they're like trying to back track and be like, oh
- 32:20Speaker 2: sorry Beck thought that and you go, yeah, all right,
- 32:22Speaker 2: well Jess has that, so like, what do you mean
- 32:25Speaker 2: you've got budget for them but not me after agreeing
- 32:28Speaker 2: that they're the same role. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't
- 32:30Speaker 2: know if that's the right thing to go and do,
- 32:33Speaker 2: like in terms of backing somebody into a corner, but
- 32:35Speaker 2: I'm very much to hold your cards close to your
- 32:37Speaker 2: chest if you have some information that don't give them
- 32:42Speaker 2: the information straight up. Don't be like oh well I know,
- 32:46Speaker 2: and they'll be like, okay, cool, well now I know.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I'm like what I'm working with. Yeah, sorry, I'm going
- 32:50Speaker 2: to lead you down the garden path. Yeah, and then
- 32:52Speaker 2: when you tell me no, I'm going to be like, sorry,
- 32:55Speaker 2: this actually was more for.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Me than for you.
- 32:58Speaker 2: And so yeah, I would, I would trying to have
- 33:00Speaker 2: that conversation. But yeah, I just think go find.
- 33:03Speaker 5: People that value you.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Likely even if you think you're happy now, I can
- 33:08Speaker 2: almost guarantee that you'd be happy or somewhere else. Yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 2: I don't really if you can't leave a different story anyway,
- 33:15Speaker 2: Name and shame, because we want companies.
- 33:16Speaker 5: We want employees to be scared to not pay.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Anyway, we asked the community. We said, if you found
- 33:23Speaker 2: out your colleague was earning twenty five percent more, but
- 33:25Speaker 2: you weren't meant to know, what would you do? Sixty
- 33:27Speaker 2: three percent of you said, obviously, I'd bring it up.
- 33:30Speaker 2: The pay gap is the issue. Nine percent of you
- 33:34Speaker 2: VDS and you said I'm starting job hunting, and eight
- 33:37Speaker 2: percent said I would say nothing. I wasn't meant to
- 33:40Speaker 2: say that. No boys in Queen, Yeah, seriously, sorry, do
- 33:43Speaker 2: you know what? I believe there is a reason for everything.
- 33:46Speaker 2: There is a reason you saw that.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Do you know what your.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Colleague might know? Maybe what if your colleague was like,
- 33:54Speaker 2: don't know how to bring this up? I feel really awkward.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I'm going to save my payslip there so that Jess
- 33:59Speaker 2: finds it. Maybe they're an ally exactly. Anyway, is twenty
- 34:04Speaker 2: five percent more pay there if someone has more experience?
- 34:09Speaker 2: Thirty three percent said yeah, experience matters. The other thirty
- 34:12Speaker 2: three percent said no, not if it's like exactly the
- 34:16Speaker 2: same work. Twenty four percent said I think it's the NBA,
- 34:19Speaker 2: and ten percent said feels like a gender thing TDH.
- 34:23Speaker 2: I think it's a conversation. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think
- 34:26Speaker 2: it's a massive conversation. We then went to the community
- 34:29Speaker 2: and said, guys, what is your two cents? And lord,
- 34:31Speaker 2: you had at least four. First person said, arm yourself
- 34:35Speaker 2: with market data and state your case to your manager. Okay,
- 34:38Speaker 2: just great, cheek it out of our dms. Next person said,
- 34:42Speaker 2: experience and qualifications matter, but twenty five percent difference in
- 34:46Speaker 2: the same role does seem like a stretch.
- 34:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Someone else said, how would they feel if someone with
- 34:51Speaker 2: less experience and qualification was getting the same pay as them?
- 34:54Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a good point to look at it from
- 34:58Speaker 4: the other side. But our person said that they the same.
- 35:01Speaker 2: So it's I don't know if this is divisive to say,
- 35:04Speaker 2: but as an employer, I'm going to use just as
- 35:07Speaker 2: an example. You've worked for me for what five years,
- 35:09Speaker 2: nearly six terrifying. I've loved all of them in that
- 35:13Speaker 2: period of time. Yes, Jess doesn't have a degree. Yes,
- 35:16Speaker 2: there's been a lot of development in the role, more responsibilities.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Obviously she's also had pay rises, but in that time
- 35:24Speaker 2: she has gained a deep understanding. If she's on the money,
- 35:28Speaker 2: a deep understanding of being able to talk on my behalf,
- 35:31Speaker 2: trust responsibility. That's not just like, oh, someone comes in,
- 35:35Speaker 2: so let's say she's on the money somehow doubles overnight.
- 35:38Speaker 2: We need two partnerships managers. I can guarantee you right
- 35:42Speaker 2: now that the salary I would offer to market, and
- 35:45Speaker 2: I'm happy to be quoted on this would not be
- 35:46Speaker 2: just as salary. I see that makes sense because to
- 35:49Speaker 2: me right now, it's not about degrees, it's not about qualifications. Yes,
- 35:53Speaker 2: I'd be looking for that, and yes, the role would
- 35:54Speaker 2: be marketed as such like I'm not going to try
- 35:57Speaker 2: and underpay someone. That's not the case. Don't think anyone
- 36:00Speaker 2: that works for me would agree that that ever happens,
- 36:04Speaker 2: it would be market fair going rate. I'm not going
- 36:07Speaker 2: to pay them what Jess gets because Jess has that
- 36:09Speaker 2: five years of experience of deeply understand Like if Jess
- 36:12Speaker 2: answered my phone to a client, I would trust her
- 36:15Speaker 2: that she knows she could give my advice. She knows,
- 36:19Speaker 2: and I don't think that if someone came in with
- 36:22Speaker 2: like a full degree or whatever you need for that
- 36:24Speaker 2: role and they found out what Jess aren't, because Jess
- 36:27Speaker 2: gonna tell them. I don't care. I would very happily
- 36:30Speaker 2: have that conversation that no, they weren't being matched and
- 36:33Speaker 2: there's a reason for that. Yeah, it's a good reason,
- 36:35Speaker 2: and it's exactly and I think there's a good reason
- 36:38Speaker 2: for that, and maybe you could think about that. I'm
- 36:40Speaker 2: not saying that that's the case, but like, yes, they
- 36:42Speaker 2: might have the same amount of experience as you, but
- 36:44Speaker 2: are you saying you have ten years experience in the
- 36:46Speaker 2: industry and they've got ten years working for that particular company.
- 36:49Speaker 2: I see this, and I'm not saying that every company
- 36:51Speaker 2: is the same, because some roles are so like clinical
- 36:54Speaker 2: where you just do the job and it actually doesn't
- 36:56Speaker 2: matter how deeply you know the organization because there's actually
- 36:59Speaker 2: ten million employees. But for me, that's a very different situation,
- 37:04Speaker 2: and I think putting that on the table is like,
- 37:05Speaker 2: I don't know, maybe a thought through caring for sure. Anyway,
- 37:09Speaker 2: I'll do two more. Next person said, talk with her
- 37:12Speaker 2: union reps because it's possibly actually widespread, might not just
- 37:16Speaker 2: be you. And then the last one I'm going to
- 37:19Speaker 2: share is I think they changed laws so that companies
- 37:22Speaker 2: can't hide large pay gaps like this, and I think
- 37:25Speaker 2: that that's where you should be looking like, that's very true. Understanding.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Do they have like a pay secrecy thing in your contracts?
- 37:32Speaker 2: Where does that conversation come in? Have you asked your
- 37:35Speaker 2: managers about like, oh, what's this role value dat?
- 37:37Speaker 1: What?
- 37:37Speaker 2: Yeah? I think there's just lots of conversation to be happening.
- 37:40Speaker 2: But what I'm learning is one communication and two do
- 37:43Speaker 2: your researching. Go in there prepared. Absolutely, we're not brushing
- 37:47Speaker 2: it under the rug. No, what a good little chat, guys.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I've loved this, but unfortunately that is all we have
- 37:55Speaker 2: time for today. So you know what, We'll see you
- 37:57Speaker 2: right nearly on Monday morning for our money. Have a
- 38:00Speaker 2: beautiful weekend, guys, Hi, guys. Bye.
