- 0:00Welcome to Not All Business, a podcast by two former CEOs who
- 0:04went from competitors to friends.
- 0:06I'm Blakely Graham and my Co host is Heather Cooper, and
- 0:09we're joined by our producer Clay Cornell, who's treated his
- 0:12behind the scenes magic for a front row seat at our holiday
- 0:16table in a cat sweater. Anyway, today's a special one,
- 0:22folks. It's our Christmas episode, and
- 0:24instead of bringing you a guest, we're bringing you something a
- 0:27little different. It's a moment to pause, reflect,
- 0:31and share the gift we think everyone needs heading into the
- 0:34new year. Let's get our hot Coco with a.
- 0:44Yes and we're back in your phone studio back live or another
- 0:48person event which. Means I get to take off my
- 0:50glasses. Thank God.
- 0:52Yes in Boulder, Co Beautiful place to celebrate Christmas.
- 0:57All your embarrassing lights, they're hideous.
- 1:00They're beautiful. But it's a lot.
- 1:02Yeah, my husband, it's a lot. And it's the.
- 1:05Best. It's just it's aspirational.
- 1:06For sure, we look at it as a community service.
- 1:08We've had so many people stop us on the streets and be like,
- 1:11you're in the lights this year. And so Scott's like, oh, how are
- 1:14we going to double down next year?
- 1:16That's. So nice.
- 1:16Yeah. Also, her neighbor keeps giving
- 1:19her $100 bills every day. So I feel like how many more of
- 1:23those are you going to take from him, I mean.
- 1:26They're for new strands of lights.
- 1:28Every year our 90 year old neighbor like slip us slips.
- 1:32It's like $100. Like this year it was four 50s
- 1:35and just so we could have more lights.
- 1:38It's so sweet, but didn't you say he's also bringing more
- 1:41money every day? Is he OK?
- 1:43Does he have family that you should be reaching out?
- 1:45To OK, first of all, his daughter-in-law is one of my
- 1:48dearest friends and she is listening to this podcast, OK?
- 1:51And she's like, that's my kids inheritance.
- 1:54That's what I was going to say. You're just like stuck buying it
- 1:57away. Sorry, bottle of.
- 1:58Wine, but it is so. More eggnog, anybody?
- 2:02Thanks, Earl. What's his name?
- 2:04Bruce. Bruce, OH.
- 2:05Oh, that's my stepdad name Bruce.
- 2:07He's the best. A good name.
- 2:08He is the best. OK, I'm getting a little teary
- 2:10eyed. That's what Christmas is for.
- 2:12I'm sorry. Let's move on.
- 2:14Love you, Bruce. Moving on, Smith.
- 2:17Oh, I know Clay, it has been four weeks ish since
- 2:24Thanksgiving and I feel like we've left our listeners on the
- 2:28hook because if anyone remembers the Thanksgiving episode, Clay
- 2:34bought a lock box for his phones.
- 2:38Yes and he was I'm just going to catch up people up.
- 2:41He was going to take it to his in laws for Thanksgiving.
- 2:44Risky. Put it on the table and be like
- 2:46hey yo put your phone in here so we can have some in person time.
- 2:50That's exactly how I sound. Yeah.
- 2:52Hey, yo, put your phone in here. Digging it.
- 2:54Are you digging it? Hey, groovy, baby.
- 2:57Let's go. All I know is what's the
- 3:01scuttlebutt? That night, scuttlebutt and he
- 3:04says scuttlebutt. I went out that night and bought
- 3:06the same thing on Amazon overnight to take to our
- 3:10Thanksgiving. So I feel like.
- 3:12We need to debrief that because we.
- 3:13Never debrief today and now we're heading into Christmas,
- 3:17which is just like another holiday where.
- 3:19Yeah, You want to take the phones of your friends and
- 3:21family and lock them away? You do.
- 3:23Yeah. Yeah, Forget about personal
- 3:25freedom. Right.
- 3:26OK, so pass the butter. I do remember pass butter.
- 3:30Can I tell you? I said pass the butter three
- 3:32times to myself before anyone even got there.
- 3:34Yeah. That's our good name for dealing
- 3:37with our. Foundest cooking in the kitchen?
- 3:40Pass the butter. And we're going to put it on
- 3:43every on T-shirts, on mugs, yes, everything.
- 3:47So you can at some point you will be able to own not all
- 3:52business merch that says pass the butter on it I.
- 3:54Mean, let's make that a January goal, merch.
- 3:58All these folks like we're all sitting in January having to
- 4:00make our goals at Christmas time, which always hated in
- 4:02business, but that is going to be our 2026 goal.
- 4:06That's the better merch, yeah. OK, so do you want me to tell
- 4:09you? The thing yeah, we want to
- 4:10follow through. Everyone is looking for an
- 4:16advantage in their marketing that they can digest in a clear,
- 4:19fun format. Well, there's one podcast I want
- 4:23to tell you about that's Changing the Game.
- 4:25It's called Your Audience is Waiting and it's for business
- 4:28leaders who are done with surface level marketing advice.
- 4:32Hosted by visibility and content strategist Elisha Everett, this
- 4:36isn't a show about posting more content.
- 4:38It's about aligning your visibility strategy with actual
- 4:41business goals and revenue. Alicia helps CEOs, founders, and
- 4:46Ready to Scale business owners build strategic visibility
- 4:50ecosystems that position you as the authority in your space and
- 4:53convert attention into customers.
- 4:56Real frameworks, real ROI Clay, that's return on investment.
- 5:01So if you're leading a business and you want to grow, go
- 5:04subscribe to Your Audience's Waiting wherever you listen to
- 5:08podcasts. Well, one other thing to catch
- 5:14up listeners on was I've shared that I was going to do that
- 5:16because it came up in conversation, but then I all of
- 5:20a sudden got a bunch of advice from the both of you right on
- 5:24how to do this. Requested advice, but advice
- 5:27Advice on the. Left.
- 5:28So the advice was number one, you have to socialize.
- 5:32The idea you have to start talking about it in the
- 5:34beginning of the day kind of warmed people up to it.
- 5:37OK. The second piece of advice was
- 5:40to get my son Amris. Yeah.
- 5:42That was collect. That was a good.
- 5:43One, yeah. I think it was like amorous to
- 5:45say in a sweet voice, Hey grandma, we're putting our
- 5:48phones in here. Yeah.
- 5:50Yeah, press the button. On the edge of our seat.
- 5:54How'd it go? OK, first question is do you
- 5:56think I've followed your advice? No.
- 5:58I think you socialized it, I think.
- 6:01Ray was like Ray. Yeah, but I feel like Ray was
- 6:04like, don't involve Emerson. This.
- 6:05You're going to break his heart if they say no.
- 6:07She was more like don't exploit her child probably.
- 6:10Yeah, I can see that. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:12See that? And then two, do you think it
- 6:14was successful or that I even did it?
- 6:17Think you did? It knowing what happened at my
- 6:19house with the box, I'm going to guess that yours was successful
- 6:26and mine was an absolute disaster.
- 6:29OK, so I oh, sorry, there. The other piece of advice was
- 6:35talk to the host. Yes, that was the third piece.
- 6:38Of yeah, that was a really good one.
- 6:39OK, yeah. So I'll go backwards.
- 6:42So I talked to the host about it.
- 6:44How'd that go? Great.
- 6:46Oh, this is a good idea. Yeah, totally.
- 6:48You can do that. Yeah.
- 6:49And it was kind of like, here's the flow and then you're in
- 6:51laws. Yes, this is at my in laws
- 6:52house. OK, so so here's the flow, and
- 6:55here's when the right time to do it is.
- 6:57Oh, you got some direction? Yeah, there was like it'll fit
- 6:59in right at this moment. OK, great.
- 7:02Yeah, and there was enthusiasm. OK, so so that was good.
- 7:06And then the second one was Amris.
- 7:09So I did have Amris go around and collect the phones.
- 7:13OK, so kind of how I'll tell you how it worked out in a second.
- 7:17And then the third thing advice was socializing it.
- 7:21I didn't really do that it we were so busy cooking and
- 7:25everything, it just kind of didn't come up.
- 7:26Yeah. OK, so here's how I did it.
- 7:28It's. 20. So.
- 7:30I was counting but thanks. Well, the socializing one, I was
- 7:33like, it might ruin the surprise and give people too much time to
- 7:37start making jokes about how they're going to do it or how
- 7:39they're not going to do it. OK.
- 7:41Sorry, what were you saying? We're having a competition over
- 7:44here. She's like, it's fine, it's
- 7:46fine. It's 20.
- 7:47I just, it's rare. It's OK.
- 7:51That's true. So like dinner, prayer happens.
- 7:56Everybody goes, gets their food, then goes and sits down.
- 7:59Then after everyone had sat down, I had Emeris get up from
- 8:03the table with me and we stood at the end of the table and
- 8:06said, hey, we would love to spend our no.
- 8:10Gosh, what I said such a great line.
- 8:12I said there's no gift like the present.
- 8:14That's what I said. And then Emeris was there.
- 8:17He was so excited, you know, to do this.
- 8:19And I said I'm going to put my phone away.
- 8:22If anyone else wants to join me and put their phones away where
- 8:24Emeris is going to come around and collect them, I'm going to
- 8:27set a timer for one hour. After the hour, I will let you
- 8:31all know that your phones are available.
- 8:32But it would be great to spend some present time together as a
- 8:35family. And if I remember correctly, I
- 8:39think there was only one person who did not.
- 8:41Who? I want to know who.
- 8:43Well, there was a little, there were a couple comments set at
- 8:47the table that this one person didn't do it.
- 8:49And so there was actually peer pressure in the opposite
- 8:52direction of what we had talked about.
- 8:54So there was more peer pressure to do it.
- 8:56And I said, you know, there's no pressure to do it.
- 9:00You don't have to give up your phone.
- 9:01Yeah. This is just an opportunity if
- 9:03you would like to. Was it, was it a younger person
- 9:06like under 20 or something? Was an older person.
- 9:09Yeah, interesting. Don't know their age, probably
- 9:13late 50s early 60s. Do you know their name?
- 9:15Oh yeah, I mean, yeah. No, I'm just trying to like
- 9:21publicly out them, but that's not right.
- 9:22But they weren't on their phone. Oh, OK.
- 9:26It was just more of a security safety blanket.
- 9:28Yeah. They're like, look, I would love
- 9:30to hand over my phone, but I've not wiped my settings yet.
- 9:32I have not cleared my history. OK, I didn't.
- 9:36I'm not going. There, I mean, that's where.
- 9:39I did it go Ding. I said like when like past the
- 9:41tarsing pass, the Turkey pass, the like to just keep going off
- 9:45because that would have been great.
- 9:46This is so the opposite what I was trying to do.
- 9:48I was trying to create like a sweet family moment and it ended
- 9:51up no, no, that was funny, but I'm saying it's sweet.
- 9:53It worked out in that direction. It worked out really great.
- 9:55Good for you and. I LED.
- 9:57You LED. Yeah.
- 9:58And I really, I appreciated all the advice that I got from the
- 10:01two of you and the coaching. Yeah, on how to do it because I
- 10:04followed most of the advice and it totally worked most of it.
- 10:07Yeah. Yeah.
- 10:08Well, the socializing one I didn't do because I was cooking.
- 10:12I was in another place, cooking and all that.
- 10:14I just why didn't you guys give me advice?
- 10:16Because this is not. That's here.
- 10:19So we rented this like sweet little cabin.
- 10:22Oh, we're in Devil's Sum. Nice.
- 10:25So outside of Winter Park. And I mean, it was just was this
- 10:28a beautiful picture of picturesque horseback riding,
- 10:31all that stuff. It was fantastic, but we were
- 10:35settling into the cabin and I'm like you guys, I'd got us like a
- 10:39special, a special surprise. And, well, that's still a
- 10:42mistake right there. Hi.
- 10:44That's not a special surprise. It's a prison for the phones.
- 10:47I. Told them.
- 10:49Everyone's thinking like, are we going to Mexico, Mom?
- 10:53Like a special surprise in the Graham household.
- 10:56OK, sorry. Go ahead.
- 10:57So bad. So I brought out the box.
- 10:59I go. I learned this from Clay.
- 11:01Clay is like taking it to his family dinner.
- 11:03It's this box. And so I'm like unboxing this
- 11:06box. Oh great, now now I'm the worst
- 11:09person. Ever she was hoping no, she was
- 11:11playing you as the cool factor yes like this came from cool
- 11:14clay the producer I'm. 35 I'm not cool anymore.
- 11:17Oh my gosh. I'm sorry.
- 11:19So then I unboxed it and I didn't really quite notice what
- 11:23was happening, but Lula was recording me the whole time.
- 11:27And then they're like, what is that mom?
- 11:31Oh, oh, we know what that is. That's something to like lock
- 11:34our phones in mom. And then so Lula makes this
- 11:38whole real. And tik.
- 11:40T.O.K reel A TikTok reel about like the day in the life of our
- 11:44mom like first show up to Thanksgiving with a box put your
- 11:48phones in the box take your kids phones away and so they.
- 11:51This is how we go viral. So how are?
- 11:53You not. This is amazing.
- 11:55This is the best social content we've ever.
- 11:57Had Elden like grabs the box, he's like, let me look at it and
- 12:01he's like, oh, there's fortress mode.
- 12:05And so there's modes you can like do a clay dead and you can
- 12:09set the timer for an hour or you can set it on fortress mode
- 12:15where there's no, it's the mode. Like there's modes where you can
- 12:20put in a password and unlock the box, but there's another mode
- 12:24called fortress mode where it locks the box.
- 12:26There's no secret password. You can't call the company like
- 12:30literally the box is locked and you can do it for like 20-4 days
- 12:34like. Did he lock it before you could
- 12:36get the phones in there? No, what do you want?
- 12:38He told me he did. So he like said it and it was
- 12:41like on a 24 day timer or something like that or 24 hours.
- 12:45I don't, it doesn't even matter. He's like, it's in fortress
- 12:48mode. We never used the box, and I'm
- 12:51thinking I might. Oh, and then you guys remember
- 12:56our guest, Nicole Christensen? Yes.
- 13:00So CrossFit. CrossFit, yes.
- 13:02So we are meeting up with her for Christmas Day and in a
- 13:10couple of days. And what if I brought the box,
- 13:13gave her the box, and you guys know Nicole?
- 13:15She's cool. Yeah, well, she'd beat the shit
- 13:17out of you if you. Didn't, yeah.
- 13:19Right, exactly. So I might try the box again,
- 13:21but then maybe I'll have Lula film like I can follow up reel
- 13:26of Nicole making us all put our phones in the box.
- 13:28But exactly. But I feel like your kids are
- 13:31going to sniff this out if they get any clue that you put her up
- 13:35to it. So there can be like, no, yeah,
- 13:40it's got to be. She's got to be like, what's
- 13:42this? What if we white elephant it?
- 13:44Oh like like acted? What's this?
- 13:47Oh look, it's a thing to put the phone in the box.
- 13:51Oh, but they don't. But then be like don't even try
- 13:54they. They hate it.
- 13:57Play the reverse. Psychology.
- 13:58And then she'll be like. Why this is?
- 14:00Great. Why can't you do that?
- 14:02Yeah, guys, they're not going to put their phones in the box.
- 14:06I don't care how you package it. Like that's their.
- 14:10That. That is their social.
- 14:12Do you remember when you were little and you would open your
- 14:17Christmas presents and then you'd call your friend?
- 14:19Yeah. And be like, what'd you get?
- 14:20Like, that is their. That is their.
- 14:22Well, now they're like cutting their haul on TikTok and I'm
- 14:25just like, give me a break. That's just gross, you know?
- 14:27It can be depending on, yeah. Your haul on TikTok, Your
- 14:31Christmas present haul my. Christmas haul What was the best
- 14:34Christmas present you ever got? Oh, that.
- 14:36Is a good 10. As a kid, I don't care about
- 14:38your diamonds and shit that you get now.
- 14:40Like I want to hear about like. Wonder back in the day, woman.
- 14:44Wonderoos, Wonderoos. Underoos.
- 14:47Underoos. Yeah, I wanted though.
- 14:50Doesn't know what that is. I actually thought I was Wonder
- 14:52Woman. Did you?
- 14:54Did you spin in circles? Yes, I did.
- 14:56In your yard and like. With the with the.
- 14:58Gold. And you thought maybe you might,
- 15:01if you just spun hard enough, you might become Diane.
- 15:04Yeah. Wonder Woman.
- 15:05Oh, she was so pretty. The best?
- 15:07Yeah, the Lasso of Truth, right, The Lasso of.
- 15:10Yeah, Lasso of Truth I. Didn't know about that.
- 15:12Was that from your comic books or how are you?
- 15:15OK, so Ray was in the comic books.
- 15:17I wasn't really. Not like, I don't, not that I
- 15:19wasn't allowed, but comics and stuff like just weren't
- 15:21happening in my house. Cartoons and stuff like that.
- 15:23Yeah. So I just know about that
- 15:26because I liked Lynda Carter, Yeah.
- 15:29Who didn't? We all liked Linda Carter.
- 15:32She. Was, but I didn't like Gal Gadot
- 15:34as the new Oh I. Thought Gal didn't find John
- 15:36Linda Carter. But it's different, different
- 15:39vibe. I mean, the Wander Roos were
- 15:41clearly Linda Carter. But what are?
- 15:43What are these? It's long underwear.
- 15:46OK. But not long underwear because
- 15:48they weren't long. Mine was like a tank.
- 15:51And then underwear. It's like underwear.
- 15:54And so when you were a little girl, you wore, what are they
- 15:57called? Undershirts like these like
- 15:58little white. Before you had boobs and you
- 16:00couldn't didn't need a bra, you had to wear undershirts.
- 16:03You didn't want to show the nipple.
- 16:04Yeah, which they don't do anymore.
- 16:05Now they just free the netball. But they So you under ruse, were
- 16:11like a comic book version of a camisole and underwear.
- 16:15OK. Yeah.
- 16:16And so like my sister got, was it like Batman or Robin?
- 16:24She must have gotten but she wouldn't have gotten boy ones.
- 16:26That doesn't make sense. But you might have maybe?
- 16:29She did. That's a choice.
- 16:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 16:32But I but they, they looked different, so I would have
- 16:36remembered them. Do you know what I mean?
- 16:37Yeah, they like, like had a boy. It was like that girl or
- 16:39something. So yeah, I don't remember.
- 16:41Maybe she just got, maybe she was Wonder Woman too.
- 16:44Sorry Emily, I don't remember if she's going to call in.
- 16:46She facts checks me on the show all the time.
- 16:49I accidentally found mine in my mom's closet and it really
- 16:51wasn't. You're Underoos.
- 16:52I Yeah, I. Wait, are they called Wonderoos?
- 16:55Or Underoos. I just had Wonder Woman and so
- 16:58Heather said Wonderoos, but they're underoos, OK.
- 17:01And you could have got a Batman Star Wars Archer D2.
- 17:05I think she had R2D2. Ones that's fun, OK.
- 17:08That's. So cute.
- 17:09But so yeah, I was, I was a really good kid.
- 17:12Like I did not try to like find my presents before Christmas and
- 17:15all that or seek it out. But I accidentally found it and
- 17:18then she found out and that was like the one thing I wanted.
- 17:20And then I found it before Christmas.
- 17:22And so she was so sad because that was the Santa Claus days.
- 17:27You know, we got all of our presents stolen out of our car
- 17:31on Christmas Eve. What?
- 17:33Yeah, because I'm from a divorced family and so you have
- 17:36to like go every other year. And so my mom had packed up all
- 17:41of our gifts and I I think was the year of the dollhouse.
- 17:44And like, my aunt had handmade all these doll furniture and she
- 17:48put it in the hatchback and our car got broken into on Christmas
- 17:52Eve. And so we didn't have anything
- 17:54to open on Christmas Day. Like Santa didn't come.
- 17:56It was awful. I'm so sorry, that's terrible.
- 17:59I just remember that right now yours I was like late.
- 18:02Makes me sad for your mom. Mostly.
- 18:04Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:06Actually should. What?
- 18:09Yeah, like, I feel kind of bad for you, but like in comparison,
- 18:12like your mom though, right? Well, it's just because we work
- 18:15so damn hard to make that moment fucking mad, right It probably.
- 18:19Was most. We we say up late, we've used
- 18:22all different kinds of wrapping paper to throw off the scent.
- 18:25We do all of the things. Watch What's going to happen is
- 18:28my mom's going to call and watch the show and she's like, what
- 18:30are you guys talking about? Like nothing ever got stolen out
- 18:33of the car. You're making that up.
- 18:35We found out how much it was worth and we sold it to somebody
- 18:37else. I will ask her about it because
- 18:40you're right I probably have never respected her trauma out
- 18:42of it. Like it probably was horrible
- 18:43for. Her horrible.
- 18:45Yeah, single mom, right? I'm so sorry, mom.
- 18:48So sorry. Yeah, sorry, that's rough.
- 18:51Wait, So what was in the closet? Was it under bruise?
- 18:53Yeah, Wonder Woman under bruise. So I was just like.
- 18:56And honestly, the crazy thing is I actually felt bad for her
- 19:00immediately. Yeah.
- 19:02I realized I was not supposed to see this and this was like my
- 19:05big present that I wanted and then now I know.
- 19:09So I just felt bad did. She ever find out?
- 19:13I told her OK, because I'm also, I was, I was, I don't know,
- 19:17strangely. I snuck down from upstairs 1
- 19:22Christmas and I caught my parents in the act.
- 19:27Of sex. No getting together like the
- 19:31bike. Sorry I.
- 19:34Was like I hadn't even. They like put together the bike
- 19:37and my dad yelled in like his deep voice like get it back
- 19:41upstairs or Santa won't come and so then.
- 19:44Maybe that was his Santa. Voice I oh, he had a voice.
- 19:47And then I ran back upstairs and my sister and I went back to
- 19:50bed. And then I waited all night, you
- 19:52guys, all night. And then I came back down and I
- 19:55just sat on the stairs at the top.
- 19:58Been like, is it safe to go down?
- 19:59Is it safe to go down? Because I was like, worried.
- 20:01Yeah. And then he came up.
- 20:03Up the stairs. My dad, not Santa.
- 20:06He's like, what are you doing? It's 10:00 and I.
- 20:10Like so wait, it was your dad though It wasn't Santa and.
- 20:13I thought I had stayed up all night.
- 20:19There's only 10 PM. OK.
- 20:22So what are you? I guess the way you said it, it
- 20:27makes it sound like you. It's Santa.
- 20:29Yeah, I was. It was in my unclear years, I
- 20:31wasn't sure. I wasn't sure how much was Dad,
- 20:33How much was Santa. What age was that for you?
- 20:37OK, it was that in the house. So I was probably in 5th, 4th,
- 20:445th, 4th or 5th grade. OK.
- 20:47Yeah. So 4th grade maybe?
- 20:49Yeah, that's probably about right.
- 20:51I don't even. I have no idea when mine was.
- 20:53OK, my favorite gift I ever got was believe it or not, it wasn't
- 20:59just for me. I got one, but all like my older
- 21:03sister got one, my cousins all got one.
- 21:06It was it was 1 toy, but it wasn't a toy.
- 21:09It was like an electronic device.
- 21:10What do you think it was? IPod.
- 21:14No way earlier. But we would wait a favor.
- 21:17Is it one gift that you shared or one gift that you all got
- 21:21together? Like I got 1 and it came in a
- 21:24carrying case with my name on. It oh, it was one of those
- 21:27Nintendo, not the Switch, because that's Game Boy version
- 21:31Game Boy. Game Boy.
- 21:33Yeah. That's fun.
- 21:34I got an original. Wow game.
- 21:36Boy, for Christmas. Wow, that's.
- 21:39Wow, that was a grandma. Patent big money.
- 21:41Gift Grandma Judy who are. Getting underwear and it's
- 21:45getting a Game Boy, OK. OK, but I mean don't make me say
- 21:50it. Hey, the Cardinals are very
- 21:51wealthy. Oh my God, cute.
- 21:57Just cue the laugh track. So frustrated, so lame.
- 22:03In all kinds of ways. The thing is, when she says
- 22:06stuff like that, I can't. Don't make me mediate a fight
- 22:09right now. No, it's Christmas.
- 22:11I'm in my, I'm in my shower. Let it go, let it go.
- 22:17OK, so we all get Game Boys, right?
- 22:18Yeah. And we're all sitting around and
- 22:21like, and just out of nowhere, like, I'm like 5 years old.
- 22:24This is like, OK, so it's 1995. I get a Game Boy and like, I
- 22:29could not believe it. Yeah, it's amazing.
- 22:31It was a jock crazy. It's amazing.
- 22:34Yeah, it's kind of like when I got a cabbage touched all.
- 22:36To this day. My mom had to fought people for
- 22:38those where moms we should introduce them.
- 22:41My mom fought them in the store physically.
- 22:44I had heard about stuff like that happening, but.
- 22:46Yeah, so you felt like you were on top of the world.
- 22:48That was like blowing your mind. Yeah, because I'm one of the
- 22:51younger ones. Yeah.
- 22:52And so, like, my older cousins got the same thing.
- 22:53So we all got the same thing. And I still have it to this day.
- 22:56It's on my shelf. Like if you're looking at me on
- 22:58the podcast, it's to my left. When you're not an in person
- 23:01episode in Boulder, Co? Yeah, when you're not.
- 23:04You look like you're in a surge for.
- 23:06Christmas I couldn't even. OK, so I'm supposed to wear this
- 23:08hat too? Yeah, see this hat here?
- 23:11Uh huh. If you come spend Christmas with
- 23:12my family, you're wearing a hat. Yeah, you're wearing that at
- 23:16dinner tonight. See you in January.
- 23:17Yeah, there you go. I had a gift like that was the
- 23:20Barbie Dream house. Yeah.
- 23:21And never it was Barbie Dream. No, it was crazy.
- 23:26Like I never would have expected it.
- 23:28Nowhere near the like those things were like for the rich
- 23:31girl, you know? I like it was knowing.
- 23:33Friend and Amanda had. One opened it and it said
- 23:36furnished. Then I saw furniture and so I
- 23:39looked at my mom. It was just the two of us.
- 23:41I looked at my mom and I was like, you got me furniture for
- 23:43my Barbie. And she's like, not just
- 23:46furniture. Like my brain couldn't even
- 23:48comprehend. It was like the house with the
- 23:51furniture. It was insane.
- 23:53You. Guys, I remember allowed to have
- 23:55Barbie. So to play with Barbie, I had to
- 23:58go across like the train tracks to the underground side to no
- 24:02Amanda's house, Mandy, she had all the Barbies, the dream
- 24:06house, the cars, the yeah. The pool.
- 24:09But my mom instead, if you're listening, mom, I do love you.
- 24:14And I'm telling this story because of how much I love you.
- 24:17She made me have right size Barbie.
- 24:20What's it called? Right sized?
- 24:22Right sized Barbies is that. Like a.
- 24:24It was like a. Like a normal sized like brand?
- 24:27All over in the 70s of this company trying to take a run at
- 24:32Barbie and they made right size proportion dolls and so good.
- 24:37For them. Yeah, so I got a right size
- 24:39doll. The clothes didn't fit, the
- 24:41shoes didn't fit, I couldn't play.
- 24:43With but I meant the boobs were normal size.
- 24:45The boobs were probably like flat little pancake, whatever
- 24:49size. No arch keel, right?
- 24:52Did you see the Barbie movie? I loved it.
- 24:55Yeah. Did they have right sized Barbie
- 24:56in that? I think variations ever, yeah.
- 25:00I got right sized Barbie. It's a whole other podcast.
- 25:02Thanks, Mom. Breaking down the Barbie movie,
- 25:07I'm on your mom's side with that, honestly.
- 25:08I mean, I am philosophically for sure.
- 25:11Like she made a lot of hard decisions like that.
- 25:13Like there's no TV. We're eating carob chips, not
- 25:15chocolate chips. Like those are hard decisions to
- 25:17make, you know? That one's not too hard, you
- 25:19could chocolate every time, but the other ones I agree with.
- 25:21I think she would agree with that now.
- 25:23Yeah, But Rice says Barbie, it was a separator.
- 25:26Yeah, I felt separated. You felt like your Barbie was
- 25:29less than. Yeah, she was.
- 25:32She didn't have a boob job. Right.
- 25:35Her feet were flat. They were.
- 25:38Really wine too. I just like it was like man
- 25:40shoes, man shoe Barbie. You know what's crazy though, is
- 25:43that they use the word I mean, this is obviously, you know, I
- 25:48was talking about in 2025, but they called it right size
- 25:51Barbie. But it's one, it's still one
- 25:53kind. So it's like they're saying that
- 25:56this is the right size, but that's still a.
- 25:58Body type. You're right, it wasn't like
- 26:02like large, skinny, medium tall like it wasn't all the Barbie.
- 26:07This is why I hate branding. It was just one who the the
- 26:11brand. I.
- 26:13Hate that because it's one size. Yeah, it's.
- 26:16All and then you've got child daughter walk in with barely
- 26:19yeah clothes because it doesn't fit.
- 26:21Fit for toddlers. Yep.
- 26:22And then they squeeze into it and that's the one size.
- 26:25I got so mad one day when I didn't understand what it was
- 26:28and then I was at, I don't know, a Cherry Creek or wherever I
- 26:31like walked in there and it's really cute clothes, like super.
- 26:34I mean, I would. One size.
- 26:36Yeah. And I'm like, wait, no other
- 26:38sizes. They're like, Nope, this is our
- 26:39only size. Oh man, I wanted to just go off
- 26:44on someone. I don't get it.
- 26:46I really don't. It's bad, Boo.
- 26:49Can I ask a question? Yeah.
- 26:50Were there different right size Barbies?
- 26:52I don't think, no, I think that was my whole point.
- 26:54There wasn't. It's just one size, right size.
- 26:56And so now that's the right size to your point like.
- 26:58Maybe it meant something else at the time.
- 27:00But maybe average size would have been a better.
- 27:03One no, it's, it's got to be something It's it's got to be
- 27:06like. Flat chested.
- 27:10I know if they were Barbie I. Don't really like.
- 27:12What do you think? What's the right?
- 27:13Way well, well, that's The thing is there is no like, quote UN
- 27:17quote, like right way. So yeah, I'm, I'm not actually
- 27:20going to put it on myself to try to figure out what that should
- 27:22be, because I'm not trying to. Or like what the marketing
- 27:25should have been? It should have just been the
- 27:27anti Barbie. I'm going to make a
- 27:28perimenopause Barbie. Are you with me?
- 27:32That's a fairy. No, I'm.
- 27:34I think we should Does. This Barbie have an age limit.
- 27:37What's the oldest Barbie out there?
- 27:39I've never seen a Barbie with my neck wrinkles.
- 27:41Ever. So let's get that going.
- 27:44Is it because we don't play with dolls?
- 27:45Anymore Wrinkle Barbie? This is only for two more years,
- 27:50folks. That's getting fixed.
- 27:52We press entered belly and she pees a little bit in her pants
- 27:55when she laughed. Stuart Oh my.
- 27:57Gosh, I just actually remembered my favorite gift I got one of
- 28:01those baby dolls that like you. Fed it and then it pees or I
- 28:07know. I also got the Barbie mask.
- 28:10Did you have one of those where it was like it was like a, it
- 28:14was so bad clay. It was like the head chopped off
- 28:18of a Barbie. A full size head.
- 28:20Or you could do the makeup. With the mask on it, so you
- 28:22could get the eyeliner just right and then you take the mask
- 28:25off and it had the perfect eyes and.
- 28:27It was creepy as yeah, it really is.
- 28:32You do the hair. You guys had?
- 28:37A very Growing up in the 70s was pretty awesome.
- 28:41I got a Game Boy. You did.
- 28:44And you're like, I wasn't invented.
- 28:46I was. I was taught unrealistic beauty
- 28:49standards. And I'm just like, well.
- 28:53That's where the thigh gap came from.
- 28:55The what? The thigh gap, Barbie?
- 28:58She has a thigh. Gap.
- 28:59I do not have a thigh gap. Good.
- 29:01Because you're right sized, right?
- 29:05Right sized Blakely. It worked.
- 29:09You grew up, painted me, right? Again, thank you.
- 29:13We've come full circle. OK, well, should we?
- 29:16I don't either. By the way, we haven't started
- 29:18having our wine yet. I know where.
- 29:20This happened just hot cocoa. Clay will not allow us to drink
- 29:24and podcast. Drink and podcast Boo.
- 29:26We're going to fix bad rule. Yeah.
- 29:28It's a good rule. No, no.
- 29:29It's a good rule. After the last episode that we
- 29:32had with the husbands, it got out of control and so you.
- 29:36Know yeah, it's like raining. Sober podcasting.
- 29:39Sober Podcasting. Is better and you'll see in the
- 29:41entire episode how stressed I am the whole time.
- 29:44Just look at me. Sweating in your cat sweater?
- 29:48OK, it is like 1000° back here in this thing.
- 29:52OK, by the way, real quick, can we zoom in on this?
- 29:54OK, so in the planning for this episode, Blakely's like, I have
- 29:58Christmas stuff, don't bring anything.
- 30:00I was like, oh great. And like, I'm like, oh cool,
- 30:03maybe I'll get like a nice like little sweater or sweatshirt or
- 30:06something, or like a cool little hat and I'm not even going to
- 30:10touch the hat. But right before I go to put on
- 30:12this sweatshirt, which by the way is a S/P, what does that
- 30:15mean? Small, petite.
- 30:16No, it's yeah. Petite is like French for small
- 30:19I Oh yeah, it's not petite. Oh yeah, it's not yours.
- 30:23Petite. Oh, it's Pequenya.
- 30:25This is like exactly. Yeah, this is like a.
- 30:26Compression sock for my chest. Yeah, but it's got you.
- 30:30Look, I do like it. It's so cute.
- 30:32It's a scary ass cat. OK, well, that's the way it's
- 30:35folding over me. OK, so the I go to put it on and
- 30:40I'm like inspecting it and like right on the collar there's like
- 30:43this like crust this like crusty stuff.
- 30:47White crusty stuff. Cookie dough.
- 30:48Right around the neck. So then I pointed out with
- 30:51Heather and she's like. And then I turn to Blakely and
- 30:54I'm like, hey, just just be, just be honest with me.
- 30:58I just need an answer. No, what is this?
- 31:00I'm going to put it on. Just tell me what it is.
- 31:02It's not a bodily fluid, I hope. Well, the question was, it was
- 31:06like it was when's the last time you wore this, Blakely, and what
- 31:09were you doing? Yeah, I've never worn it.
- 31:10I just. And you said, I think it's like
- 31:12cookie batter. Yeah, it's cookie batter.
- 31:14And I was like, OK, thank you for the answer.
- 31:16That's all I needed. But you.
- 31:18Put it on anyway you. Should ask the kids at dinner
- 31:21tonight what that is. I don't.
- 31:23Know. No, not during dinner, please.
- 31:26As soon as this episode is over, I'm taking this off.
- 31:28Yeah. Good sport for wearing it so.
- 31:31So I thought it would be an interesting idea if we use this
- 31:36time because this is like Christmas, it's New year, it's
- 31:40like the time of renewal, letting things go and adding new
- 31:43things in. What if we all talk about
- 31:47something we want to let go of from 2025?
- 31:49Because I'm sure we all have plenty we want to let go of nice
- 31:53And like, what's our intention for the new year?
- 31:55I love that. Is that something you did with
- 31:57company or is this a family thing?
- 32:00So interesting. I've no I never did that with
- 32:03company. I wish I would have thought to
- 32:06do that. Do you mean like the company?
- 32:08Yeah, I don't know why I forget my article, but yeah, the.
- 32:12I never did. I've always had, well, when I
- 32:15was younger, I I stupidly made like goals and you know.
- 32:22Idiot. Idiot.
- 32:24We have. We have corporate goals.
- 32:25Those those aren't. Idiots.
- 32:27Stupid goal. Goal oriented Barbie.
- 32:28Goals. No, no, no.
- 32:30Like. Not goals.
- 32:31What are they called? Do you have a Barbie with a
- 32:33checklist? No.
- 32:34And I got the board. You guys OK?
- 32:36Sorry, resolutions. That's what I'm trying.
- 32:38To say resolution. So corporate goals, great,
- 32:40right, like you do your corporate goals, you get your
- 32:42team all together, you hit your you need to achieve to
- 32:45something. Yes, resolutions I think are.
- 32:48Like made to be broken kind. Of thing just yeah.
- 32:50And so you asked me if I do goals, Yeah.
- 32:54And are with the company. So yeah, do goals.
- 32:57I don't do resolutions, but I've always done a word.
- 33:00And I find words of the year are a lot easier for me to like come
- 33:04back to. And it gives me the gift of like
- 33:06space to do it. And so like when I was, when I
- 33:11wanted to be finished at work, I had the word of freedom.
- 33:16And so I worked for a year and it took a year to like get out
- 33:20of my career. And then the next year I
- 33:23realized how burnt out I was. And so my word was health.
- 33:26And it took. Health, health, health.
- 33:30It's like, no, I've been there. Yep.
- 33:32And it took. Me AI mean it took me a full
- 33:35year to really like reign that in, and so I've done that a lot.
- 33:39How about you? Nice.
- 33:40Goals. Resolutions.
- 33:41Intentions. We I do like with some friends,
- 33:44we'll do a sorry, what is it on the 21st?
- 33:48It's I'm so I'm so sorry to interrupt.
- 33:51In every episode that you haven't, you'll see in this
- 33:54studio, I keep hitting this. It's the armrest.
- 33:57I took them off. And I get in trouble for my
- 34:00clicking pen and you're like. And I had to put them back on.
- 34:03Yeah, yeah, yeah. What the?
- 34:04Hell, OK, Can we put it in the budget for a different chair,
- 34:06please? So sorry.
- 34:09It's getting someone's going to be like.
- 34:10And that's when that's when we lost it all.
- 34:13And I'll be like, sorry, sorry. What were you saying?
- 34:19OK, OK. So sorry I interrupted you,
- 34:21Heather, please. Continue.
- 34:22No, you're good. Did a like a thing with friends.
- 34:25You know the moon, the 21st, the solstice, Oh my God was.
- 34:29Really. She's a solstice party.
- 34:31Yeah, we, we'll do that. We it's called Festivus and it's
- 34:34really fun. Well.
- 34:34Festivus is a Seinfeld party. Yeah, very different.
- 34:37We we, but it's not though, because we definitely do feats
- 34:40of strength and we also we do and we do airing of grievances,
- 34:46which is always the most fun part we go around in and you
- 34:48can't, it kind of isn't. You can't talk back.
- 34:50My kids love it. OK.
- 34:52Can you imagine your kids roasting you and you can't say
- 34:54anything back? They just say whatever, OK?
- 34:58You'll see it Festivus every day anyway, so we'll do that.
- 35:01A letting a leaving behind in a in a new.
- 35:04A new intentional. Yeah, that's good.
- 35:06Yeah, OK. Are we doing that right now?
- 35:08Yeah, I thought we were. Yeah, but we are we.
- 35:10Can OK, who wants to go first? So this is what we're leaving
- 35:14behind. Leaving behind and.
- 35:16And by the way, let's, you know, say to our audience here too,
- 35:20like if you have something that you want to leave behind that
- 35:23you'd be open to sharing, like put it in the comments or
- 35:25comment on our Instagram, like share.
- 35:28Let's like use this as a time for other people to share too.
- 35:31That would be really cool to hear from people.
- 35:33It would, and we've been getting the best voice memos lately.
- 35:36Oh yeah, send in the voice. Memo there.
- 35:38It's so easy to do I I hadn't done 1 yet myself, just because
- 35:41I'd you set it up brilliantly. It is.
- 35:44So easy just. Go to not all that this and it
- 35:48is so easy. You just click on the thing
- 35:50right from your phone wherever record hit submit, you
- 35:53completely anonymous. You don't have to fill out your
- 35:54name and if you can if you want to, but you do not have to.
- 35:57And we get it and they are fantastic.
- 36:00So yeah, we need to start playing some on.
- 36:02There, Yeah, we should put someone there.
- 36:04There was one that came in that was a very descriptive, very
- 36:07strong feelings about stuffing versus dressing.
- 36:10No, not just a voice memo. We it was a three-part voice
- 36:14memo that one. And I also got at least at least
- 36:194 personal texts to my personal number of people that listen
- 36:24that also have my number. Just that's a mistake.
- 36:27Ripping me apart from my fact checking I'm dressing and
- 36:31stuffing. I'm so sorry.
- 36:32OK, Let's in the meantime until, yeah, until people go through
- 36:37the quote UN quote proper channels, if they text you,
- 36:41let's just make an announcement that is fair game for the show.
- 36:44If they text you, we can bring it up.
- 36:46Yeah, OK. So can I have one of you say
- 36:48that to camera? Cuz that way it'll be more Yeah,
- 36:51I mean if. You text.
- 36:53If you text us a sticky situation or an opinion, it is
- 36:56fair game for the show. We're taking it as a submission.
- 36:58I'm looking at you, Sarah Tupac calling.
- 37:02You out coolest last name still ever. 2 pack. 2 pack.
- 37:07OK, so we're leaving stuff behind.
- 37:09Do you want of? You want to?
- 37:11Go sure, I brought some show and tell.
- 37:14I love show and tell. So back story is, as I talk
- 37:20about therapy all the time, I'm as podcast, I think it's just
- 37:23like therapeutic just being here in the room with y'all.
- 37:26But one thing I have wrestled with is I'm a bit of a critical
- 37:33perfectionist. If you haven't noticed, I
- 37:36haven't. Oh, it's such a lie.
- 37:38No, what are you talking about? Oh my gosh, anyway, you make
- 37:41things. I, it's just been horrible.
- 37:44Like I just, I, it's like it's something you know, you have and
- 37:47you don't really want to be so critical.
- 37:49You want to be like sweet and kind.
- 37:52I just, I've worked very hard to like get rid of that heart and I
- 37:57can't do it. And I finally, like I was
- 38:00talking to a friend, a friend of the pod we had her on.
- 38:04Her name's Cindy for guard. She used to sponsor.
- 38:07Maybe she's sponsor again. She I was complaining to her and
- 38:13like, I have been trying to get rid of this like critic persona.
- 38:16I don't want to be so critical to my children, to my
- 38:19colleagues. And I work hard and I'm like, OK
- 38:23at it. But then it comes back like, and
- 38:25I'm like, it's my default. And I'm like going to grow old
- 38:28and I'm going to be like 90 in the nursing home.
- 38:30And what's going to happen? You're going to go back to your
- 38:32default? Like I don't know that I can
- 38:34actually. Like.
- 38:35Shut it. She's like maybe you don't.
- 38:40She's like first of all, it's recognize how helpful it's been
- 38:44to you. And I'm like, OK, it is helpful.
- 38:46I like, set a high bar, set high standards, and those have been
- 38:50fruitful in my life. She's like, well, maybe you just
- 38:55recognize it, know that you have it, and then have the pause.
- 39:03Do you remember she talked to us about the pause?
- 39:05Yes. Yeah.
- 39:06And so. So you hear it.
- 39:08You hear yourself doing instead of, like, fighting it, just say,
- 39:11like, pause and be like in your mind, OK, Yep, there's the
- 39:16critic. And then what you choose to say
- 39:19doesn't have to be critical. So I was talking to my coach
- 39:23about this as well. And she goes, OK, let's
- 39:26visualize this. Like, take your left hand and
- 39:29who do you want to be? How do you want to be perceived?
- 39:32And my son had this like monkey that he carried around with him
- 39:37his whole life, like the cutest little stuffed animal monkey and
- 39:41called it monkey. And I'm like, I want to be
- 39:43perceived as like someone who nurtures, really.
- 39:47I'm thinking about my son. But I'm like, how sweet this
- 39:49monkey is. And then she's like, OK, on the
- 39:51other hand, what do you not like?
- 39:55And I'm like, oh, it's like the flying monkey from the Wizard of
- 40:00Oz, like the screeching monkey, like that terrifying.
- 40:03That's how I come. Like, I make my kids put phones
- 40:06in boxes. I'm like screeching monkey.
- 40:09And so she's like, OK, And so she had me do this whole
- 40:12exercise of like, OK, you want to let in soft sweet monkey?
- 40:18You want to let out screeching monkey.
- 40:20And now with what Cindy said, we're just going to put a pause
- 40:23in between, right? So they're both there.
- 40:26They're both a part of you. This is therapy one O 1.
- 40:29I'm sure everyone has like a story of it, but here's what I'm
- 40:33doing for the new year. So I just ordered these off of
- 40:36Etsy last week and I'm making a key chain that I can like you
- 40:42know what like purses like labudos, what it's called
- 40:45labudos, Laboo boos right? Laboo Boo I.
- 40:48Don't know, I'm not good with that stuff.
- 40:50I know I'm old. I don't know.
- 40:51Is it Birkin? Just kidding.
- 40:53It's a Laboo. Boo, Is it a Birkin?
- 40:55It's a Birkin. It's all I know.
- 40:56No, but they have like everyone's doing the bag charms
- 40:59and stuff. So I made myself a charm and I'm
- 41:03going to show it. I haven't even finished it yet.
- 41:04So here is like the sweet monkey.
- 41:08Can you see that clay in the camera?
- 41:11Yes. Sweet monkey, Sweet little
- 41:14monkey. And next to sweet monkey, I have
- 41:16something that is a heart with my initials.
- 41:19It's like I love me. Like it's OK to love myself.
- 41:23Yeah. And then on the other side is
- 41:27like the monkeys from the Wizard of Oz, but they looked.
- 41:30It's like fly of my pretties. And it's wicked out right now.
- 41:35So wicked. Yeah, yeah.
- 41:36But then I'm like, that doesn't look wicked enough.
- 41:38So then I got this other like, like super wicked monkey.
- 41:44And then I'm going to put them on this term so I can always
- 41:47carry with them. That's cool.
- 41:49That's a part of me. And I'm going to let the wicked
- 41:51go, and I'm going to bring in like this sweet monkey.
- 41:56I love the pause because it really you kind of need to sit
- 42:02in both for a while, you know, and it's hard to just be like,
- 42:06I'm going to switch and be this way now.
- 42:07You can't be realistic. No, it's.
- 42:09Not. Carry that through.
- 42:11That's beautiful. My little kitchen, remember?
- 42:15Just toss it around to make a Jingle on the microphone.
- 42:17I love it. So is that also then you're like
- 42:19taking new? Is that your new thing too?
- 42:22Yeah, so the new, the new is really the heart.
- 42:24Like I'm gonna love myself for what I am, but I'm I can still
- 42:28change. I might just not purge.
- 42:30You know what I mean? You don't need to purge.
- 42:32There's beautiful. Things in the in the bad monkey
- 42:36I do. I do highly recommend monkey
- 42:39videos though as you're going through this time.
- 42:41They're my favorite going through this time.
- 42:44I think you should indulge. Because they're so cute from
- 42:47the. Cute little monkey they.
- 42:48Are cute. I want to be cute.
- 42:49The one. Where they're giving him a
- 42:51little bath. Oh, I've seen that one.
- 42:53Oh, it is the. Million of them, you're right.
- 42:55So cute. You're right.
- 42:57Yeah, Star Chef bag charms and cute monkey videos.
- 43:00Yeah, your algorithm is going to be all monkeyed up.
- 43:03Yeah, it's OK. I love it.
- 43:04I do want to let you and our listeners know that monkey is
- 43:08also a slang term for a female genitalia.
- 43:12So do not Google things like bad monkey video like don't look up
- 43:16something What the what? I'm just letting you know this
- 43:19is a PSA. I really.
- 43:20A female? Why wouldn't that be a male
- 43:22genitalia? I didn't come up with.
- 43:24It bad monkey is like a bad no. No, just monkey.
- 43:28Just monkey. Yeah.
- 43:30Just monkey. Just monkey.
- 43:32Why I? Don't know, it doesn't look like
- 43:34a monkey. I shouldn't have said anything.
- 43:36But it should have well. Thank you like a monkey.
- 43:40Mine doesn't. It.
- 43:44This show OK what are you letting out I.
- 43:51Think I'm gonna let go of my monkey video because now I'm a
- 43:55little worried. I'm so swear it's gonna be.
- 43:59I didn't know, I didn't know. That's actually rare that you
- 44:02didn't know like that's. Usually I'm up on this, up on
- 44:06that stuff. OK, so getting us back on track
- 44:08so we can get people to their holiday parties.
- 44:11Yeah. What are you letting go?
- 44:16I'm going to let go the need to succeed.
- 44:29So that doesn't mean I'm going to try partner be a failure.
- 44:36So don't give up on me, but it means that that is not a healthy
- 44:43driving force for me anymore. I get that.
- 44:47You know, and it also looks different like.
- 44:50What does it mean to succeed? But I'm talking about that kind
- 44:55of ego driven need to succeed. I've got to let that go.
- 45:03Yeah, this podcast has been great for that because.
- 45:07We lay it all out there. Yeah, the ego is like, I'm
- 45:10unhireable. I.
- 45:11Know I just have to say like. Yeah, no one's tanked.
- 45:14No one's saying let me bring her and to lead my company.
- 45:17Not that I, and thank God that that's OK, right?
- 45:21I don't. Yeah.
- 45:22Have you regularly fuck you? Let it go.
- 45:27Because you're the because you're the doer.
- 45:30I'm the player player anyway. No, I, that piece of my ego has
- 45:37not it. It served me and it's time and
- 45:39day and that's great. I have no regrets on it.
- 45:41But I don't need to take that with me forward.
- 45:44I think I've achieved that's here now it's going to be what
- 45:49am I bringing in is the soulful feeding the soul, not picking up
- 45:55the phone as soon as I wake up reflection heading into the next
- 46:0150 years like that. I just feel this transition of
- 46:05like toward peace, inner peace and letting that guide me
- 46:11instead of this driving force of external validation from a
- 46:14predefined success that I didn't define being put on me.
- 46:18Are we? I don't mean to be, but just
- 46:20that I'm letting that shutting that layer.
- 46:23Did you hear about the like snake and horse thing?
- 46:25No, I saw that on Instagram or something.
- 46:27I don't know, 2025 was like shutting, was it like the hard
- 46:31stuff like like letting it go and then the horse being like
- 46:35the year of the horse? I'm not, I don't know a lot
- 46:36about that stuff, so I can't speak to it.
- 46:38Well, OK. But the horse being like
- 46:39motivation driven, like movement forward, like movement momentum.
- 46:43But yours is not moving towards success.
- 46:45No, but it's an inner movement and yeah, for that.
- 46:48And I do feel like I'm part of emotion right now and I'm part
- 46:51of a movement, and I don't know exactly how that's being
- 46:54defined, but I feel it like throughout.
- 46:57And I feel like it's something that's bigger than me and I feel
- 47:00like it's not about me at all. And that feels good.
- 47:03I feel you on that one a lot. That's good.
- 47:07You're already doing the soulful piece.
- 47:09Like I'm seeing so many great signs of that.
- 47:13Thank you. I.
- 47:14Appreciate it. Can I also say that Blakely, you
- 47:17I see you already practicing the thing that you want to do for
- 47:20next year, taking the pause. You've mentioned that off camera
- 47:23multiple times. Yes.
- 47:26And you're like, Cindy taught me this.
- 47:27But it's like, I feel like Cindy.
- 47:30I'm not going to speak for her, but I feel like it would.
- 47:35Maybe the mission now is like, this is that's yours now.
- 47:38You didn't just hear it from a friend.
- 47:39It is what you're doing. It's yours now.
- 47:41Oh yeah, like. That's next level.
- 47:43That's next level. But I think you're already doing
- 47:46it. So just how you talk about it,
- 47:47you're just doing a great job. And also I totally agree with
- 47:50you that Heather is doing the soulful stuff.
- 47:52She is the one in our group that's like, OK everybody.
- 47:57Yeah, she. Is take a second nice, let's
- 47:59reset that. You have that total energy, you
- 48:03bring that into our friend group, into our work group and
- 48:05it's really nice. Thanks.
- 48:07Clay Yeah, When you talk about our work group, you mean the
- 48:10three of us in this room? Our work group.
- 48:14Our work group. Our work.
- 48:15Group. It sounds like we're like
- 48:16picking up trash on the side of the highway like our work group.
- 48:20Our work group Also, you've got crusty white stuff around your
- 48:22neck so you are a little hard to take serious right now.
- 48:25It's OK over to. You at least I can't smell what
- 48:27it is. It's good it's that old.
- 48:31Sure, it's eggnog, that's what it is.
- 48:34Probably fingers crossed. I don't like that it's changing.
- 48:38I don't like that you're like, oh, that sounds more right.
- 48:41I don't want to hear what sounds more right later.
- 48:44I don't know what it is. Gosh my head is so shiny from
- 48:49how I'm sweating. You don't have a Santa hat on.
- 48:52It's a lot. You're right.
- 48:53Yeah. All right.
- 48:53What do you mean behind it? OK.
- 48:55So this year was a year where I was really scarcity mindset,
- 49:04where I acted a lot for good reasons out of like, I don't
- 49:07have very much conserve, conserve, make sure it lasts.
- 49:11And this podcast has helped me get out of that.
- 49:16And so I'm really grateful for that.
- 49:19So I'm leaving behind the scarcity mindset and moving into
- 49:22more of like an abundance mindset of like.
- 49:27He's taking your success. I had a he's.
- 49:29Taking my money, so he's taking that's.
- 49:33OK, I'm moving into this, you know, like moral.
- 49:35Come to me, you know. Meanwhile, we're like, yeah, we
- 49:40get it. That's so true.
- 49:43Don't worry him. But part of it's not just
- 49:45scarcity into abundance, it's embracing things like this year
- 49:50I was not as creative. And when I am in like a scarcity
- 49:56mindset, I don't think creativity should flow from me
- 50:00right now. I should use that energy for
- 50:04something that's going to Get Me Out of the scarcity mindset.
- 50:07So I was kind of right. But it's like I'm ready to be
- 50:10done with that and move into the next season.
- 50:13I just accept that that's where it is.
- 50:14So more creativity, more weirdness.
- 50:19I listened to an interview with Jack White and Conan O'Brien and
- 50:22Jack White when he was growing up and started a business in
- 50:26Detroit as an upholsterer. His invoices were crayon on like
- 50:31yellow sheets of paper. And it just said, like, you owe
- 50:34me $300. And he would show up in like a
- 50:37yellow suit and driving like a yellow and black van.
- 50:42And it was like an all like an art piece.
- 50:43Like he was a creative person who's just like, this is how I
- 50:46would do it if I had the choice. So he did it that way.
- 50:50Wow. And that really inspired me.
- 50:52So yeah, I bringing that kind of like creative artist just energy
- 50:59to just letting it flow from you instead of thinking like now
- 51:04it's work time, now it's creative time.
- 51:06Just kind of embracing the identity of like a creative
- 51:09person and saying stepping into it and being like, OK, this is
- 51:14my creative energy can flow in all aspects of my life and
- 51:18doesn't have to be compartmentalized.
- 51:20So. Is that why you keep your show
- 51:23notes on a ripped piece of legal pad?
- 51:26Like? Is that a Jack White like?
- 51:29Because I feel like you could lose it, like just take a
- 51:30picture of it and then you'd have it better.
- 51:33But no, seriously, I do love, love, love, love this.
- 51:36And here's the deal. All of that that you just said
- 51:41is irrespective of profession. Like, I think that's the most
- 51:45interesting thing right now is like, we're all going through
- 51:47these things. Yeah.
- 51:49We are here together and so there's an overlap of what we're
- 51:52all doing that's going to it could make this podcast insanely
- 51:56successful, which it's my heart and soul and I would love for
- 51:59that to happen. Yeah.
- 52:00And also I can take it with me to the law firm tomorrow and
- 52:04fully be present there. Like all of these things flow
- 52:07over to the other human on the other side of the desk, the
- 52:11phone, the computer, the conversation to build something
- 52:14that is outside of us. So it doesn't.
- 52:16It's not about pushing one specific agenda forward, it's
- 52:19just how are we developing that way?
- 52:21I heard that you're going to be more soulful and be in the
- 52:25moment and Craig's. Who's Craig?
- 52:29You don't want to order pizzas on the phone.
- 52:30That's the most common mistake. Can I get a name for the pizza?
- 52:35Yeah. Clay Craig.
- 52:36That is the second time I've called Clay the wrong name today
- 52:40and two different names. OK, it's going to say you are
- 52:46soulful and in the moment Clay is like abundant and creative
- 52:50and I'm a. Good monkey.
- 52:52You're a good monkey. Every team needs a good monkey.
- 52:55OK? You're actually not quite the
- 52:58good monkey, though, because we don't.
- 52:59Let's not forget it. You're on pause.
- 53:00You're between monkeys. You're between.
- 53:07Monkeys. I am on the pause, the
- 53:10menopause. She's on a monkey.
- 53:13Pause. OK, I am just going to think my
- 53:20wording through, but I will. I'm going to be surrounding
- 53:23myself with creative, abundant, soulful, in the present moment
- 53:27people, and I love it. Yay.
- 53:30Me too. Yeah.
- 53:31All right. OK, we have we again.
- 53:34The three of us somehow managed to talk for hours.
- 53:36Sorry about that. We'll see. 10 minutes it was, it
- 53:40was supposed. To be it was never going to be
- 53:4110 minutes. We're not that unrealistic.
- 53:43It was going to be 30, so we'll. See, but we get together.
- 53:46It is so much fun. It is.
- 53:47And we like doing this because we know we have an active
- 53:51community. We have active listeners and
- 53:53viewers, friends, family, Yeah, who text us and who are telling
- 53:56us they're enjoying it. And.
- 53:59Yeah. Yeah, that's what I want.
- 54:01Another, They're like a stretch goal for 2026.
- 54:03I want to like, meet people. Yeah, we need.
- 54:06Some. Yeah, I agree.
- 54:07We found some. Requests for that, yeah, I think
- 54:09that's. Good.
- 54:09I want them to be on the show. We should do that.
- 54:11I know we need. More subscribers?
- 54:14Yeah, yeah. We'll take some more of those.
- 54:15Too. That's what I'm going to ask
- 54:16Santa for. OK, subscribers.
- 54:18Yeah, subscribers. So if you can make my make a
- 54:20wish come true for me. Yeah.
- 54:22So that's a Christmas wish. Smash that subscribe button.
- 54:27I hate when people say that. I know I don't want to ask for
- 54:30that. I just want it to happen
- 54:31naturally. But then also they tell us we're
- 54:33supposed to ask, and then they tell us we have to do these
- 54:35YouTube whatever they call the thumbnails, which we have no
- 54:39control over and we look like idiots.
- 54:41Everybody do your best thumbnail face.
- 54:44Yeah. Oh no, that will actually happen
- 54:46and I don't want that. One no, no little minds.
- 54:48When I'm laughing it's like it's the worst.
- 54:51We look like idiot, yeah, but that's OK.
- 54:54Who cares? It doesn't matter.
- 54:55It's all about the inside. It's not about our success.
- 54:58Absolutely. So happy holidays.
- 55:01Thank you so much for all the support so far.
- 55:04We are so excited about 2026 coming up.
- 55:07We've got full guests line up. It's going to keep going on.
- 55:11So stick with us. We'll stick with you.
- 55:12We'll be showing up every week. We are going to take a quick
- 55:15monkey pause so we won't be back until January 8th but have the
- 55:20best new year ever. Make you guys are gonna survive.
- 55:24Okay, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, happy happy holidays.
- 55:28Cheers.
