Transcript
- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by the hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi. It's Adam here.
- 0:42Now let me ask you this question on a scale of 1 to 100, with 100
- 0:46being complete full self acceptance and any lower number
- 0:51less than that, how much do you self accept?
- 0:54How much self acceptance? Do you have?
- 0:57And the reason I asked that question is that a large part of
- 1:01what I do as a therapist is help people to find things within
- 1:05themselves that they haven't fully accepted yet.
- 1:08And sometimes there is an element of control and coping
- 1:11strategies to work around those things that they don't quite
- 1:15accept. Now, if you are carrying around
- 1:19a feeling of you're not good enough as you are, that there is
- 1:22something wrong with you, that you have to change yourself in
- 1:25order to be accepted or validated.
- 1:28These are clues. That there is something within
- 1:31yourself acceptance that isn't fully accepted.
- 1:35Now this session is helping you to find that self acceptance, to
- 1:40activate that self acceptance and to release any suppressed
- 1:46emotions. And the client that I was
- 1:47working with had a difficult childhood with certain elements
- 1:51that they felt they couldn't accept and it was still creeping
- 1:56into their adulthood. So at the core, this is about
- 2:00releasing suppressed emotions and activating a real place of
- 2:05acceptance of who they are, what they're all about, but not
- 2:09saying that everything's perfect, but that everything is
- 2:12accepted. There could be a flaw within you
- 2:14that you don't particularly like about yourself, still want to
- 2:17change it, but accept that within you.
- 2:20And acceptance is a superpower, so long as it comes with a drive
- 2:25to improve. But there is a big difference
- 2:28between improving through growth and through inspiration rather
- 2:33than changing because there's a feeling that you are not
- 2:35acceptable as you are. So if you can relate to any of
- 2:38these themes, you might get some value from this session.
- 2:41But it was created for an individual.
- 2:44Therefore, some of the suggestions would have been
- 2:46ideal for the client I was working with, and they won't be
- 2:49ideal for you. So just ignore any suggestions
- 2:52that don't quite fit, hone into the ones that do.
- 2:54And if you like the idea of working with me directly, have a
- 2:57look in the description of this episode for a link where you can
- 3:00book a free consultation call. For now though, find a quiet,
- 3:04comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 3:06disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:02Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:12resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 4:17And as you exhale, feel a wonderful feeling of release,
- 4:24especially around your neck, your jaw, and anything connected
- 4:32with breath. I want you to imagine as you
- 4:36breathe in your breathing, in a relaxant, the breath itself
- 4:43relaxes the nostrils, the back of your throat, your windpipe,
- 4:51all the tiny muscles around your neck, down there into your
- 4:57chest. And I want you to imagine your
- 5:05heart, just as it does with oxygen, is taking that relaxant,
- 5:13pumping it around in your blood cells to every cell in your
- 5:16body. And in doing so, your whole body
- 5:22relaxes more and just feel your jaw loosen, your neck loosen,
- 5:32your chest, your diaphragm relax and loosen.
- 5:37And in doing so, you're able to breathe even deeper, relaxed.
- 5:49And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 5:55And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 6:03As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens.
- 6:09And I want you to imagine floating up out of your own
- 6:14body. Keep your physical body there as
- 6:18your imagination goes on a journey.
- 6:24I want you to imagine floating and flying over oceans and
- 6:29cities. Imagine floating over mountains,
- 6:36perhaps even deserts. And I want you to imagine
- 6:42floating and flying like a superhero all the way to a
- 6:47specific lake in New Zealand. Not just any lake.
- 6:55I want you to think of a lake. A lake that, when you're close
- 7:01to that lake, gives you a wonderful feeling of serenity.
- 7:10So imagine just floating down beside that lake on a sunny day
- 7:17with blue skies. And I want you to imagine being
- 7:24there, in that location, connecting with that wonderful
- 7:32feeling of calmness. I want you to notice what you
- 7:40would notice if you were there. Sun reflecting on the surface of
- 7:47the lake, a breeze, the warmth of the sun on your skin.
- 7:59Maybe there's sounds of birds or insects.
- 8:04Maybe there's trees nearby with the scent.
- 8:09I want you to connect without feeling.
- 8:13When nature felt alive and you felt alive, no one to judge, no
- 8:27one to impress, just you being present with yourself.
- 8:46I wonder if you could imagine the most comfortable chair
- 8:49that's ever existed there by the lake.
- 8:54And I want you to imagine sinking into that comfortable
- 8:59chair, eyelids feeling heavier, feeling a desire to yawn but not
- 9:06quite yawning. Imagine your arms and legs feel
- 9:11limp, loose and heavy, like you're drifting off into a
- 9:15wonderful, dreamlike sleep. There on that chair by the lake,
- 9:21far, far away, no people around. I want you to imagine just
- 9:28before you drift off into that dream like sleep.
- 9:34Imagine there's a cat. Imagine a fluffy cat there by
- 9:40the lake. Maybe it's looking for fish
- 9:47there in the shallow waters or maybe just relaxing in the
- 9:52sunshine. I want you to notice this is a
- 9:58big cat, like a tiger or a lion, but a big domestic cat.
- 10:07And the fact that this cat is big does not change the value of
- 10:14the cat. I want you to get a sense then
- 10:21that cat has value if it's a slim cat or if it's an
- 10:30overweight cat. And I want you to notice.
- 10:37Notice how that cat is not at all preoccupied with its weight.
- 10:46The cat does what the cat does irrespective of whether it's
- 10:53heavy or light, and I want you to get a sense that that cat,
- 11:02without even trying, is full of self acceptance.
- 11:11As you breathe in and breathe out.
- 11:13I'm going to countdown from 5 to 1 and you will imagine drifting
- 11:17off into a dreamlike sleep 5. Eyelids getting heavier 4.
- 11:26Big deep breath now three arms and legs limp, loose and heavy
- 11:312. Just feel an intense feeling of
- 11:35relaxation there in your abdomen.
- 11:41Just imagine each of those 8 abdominal muscles starts to
- 11:47release and relax, either all at the same time or 1 by 1.
- 11:55That's it. Imagine you're breathing from
- 11:59the belly, not the chest, and each breath makes all of those
- 12:04abdominal muscles more and more relaxed, and one drifting down
- 12:10from your toes to the top of your head, all the way down to
- 12:13the tips of your fingers. Feel that wave of relaxation
- 12:22drifting into that dreamlike sleep.
- 12:26And I want you to imagine. Imagine what you would feel like
- 12:33if you were high up on one of those mountains in New Zealand.
- 12:40Maybe imagine being right at the very top.
- 12:46And I want you to imagine you're carrying two empty suitcases,
- 12:54one in each hand. And maybe they're big suitcases
- 12:59or the kind of ones you put in the overhead luggage, but
- 13:06imagine them empty and light. And I want you to imagine what
- 13:13it would feel like to fill those bags up.
- 13:18Not with things, but with feelings.
- 13:25I want you to scan your body for any feelings of frustration,
- 13:33either current frustration or previous frustrations.
- 13:39And sometimes frustration has a location, and sometimes it just
- 13:43feels wherever it happens to be. And I want you to scan your body
- 13:49for that frustration and just move it psychologically up your
- 13:58body, down your arms, into these empty suitcases.
- 14:04Feel that you're transferring frustration from you into the
- 14:09bags. And what do you feel then?
- 14:16Any historical frustrations are now no longer in you, and
- 14:19they're in the bag. Let me know by nodding your
- 14:21head. That's it.
- 14:26And now let's find a heavier emotion.
- 14:34I want you to scan your body or any clues or echoes or any
- 14:40suppressed emotions of rejection times that you felt you weren't
- 14:50included, left out, or perhaps that feeling of not being wanted
- 15:01even for a moment. Scan your body for the location
- 15:06of that rejection, and when you found it, start to move it from
- 15:15wherever it is up into your chest, down your arms and into
- 15:23the bags and feel these suitcases, these bags getting
- 15:27heavier. They now contain frustration and
- 15:32they contain any feelings of rejection or abandonment.
- 15:42And now scan your body for any shame and all the cousins of
- 15:47shame, embarrassment, humiliation, self-conscious,
- 15:56anything like that. Move it from you into the bags
- 16:02and feel those bags getting heavier and heavier.
- 16:11But let's find more. Perhaps any regrets?
- 16:18And there's two regrets that most people have.
- 16:22Those things that we did that we wish we didn't.
- 16:27But sometimes what's heavier are the things we didn't do.
- 16:33But if we had that time machine, we would definitely do them
- 16:37differently. Scan your body for any regrets.
- 16:45Move them down your arms into the cases and allow them to feel
- 16:50heavier and heavier and heavier. That's it.
- 16:53And now any sadness and the sibling of sadness is pity.
- 17:06Perhaps you can recall memories and just extract any sadness,
- 17:11any pity, any feelings of not being enough.
- 17:18Extract them, distill them and move them down into the bags.
- 17:25And the bags get heavier and heavier, but your body feels
- 17:30lighter. And then anything else, any
- 17:37anger, any feelings of resentment, bitterness, any
- 17:49blame, but also any suppressed emotions, anything very deep,
- 18:01perhaps down in the gut, allow it to move, be released down
- 18:09your arms into the cases. And you're on the top of a
- 18:14mountain with two heavy cases now.
- 18:18And if you can imagine feeling the weight of those cases, let
- 18:22me know by nodding your head. And what's crucial is that you
- 18:29retain the wisdom, the knowledge, the experience of
- 18:34your past, but you don't need to hold on to any heavy emotions
- 18:40anymore. And I want you to imagine how
- 18:46liberating, how freeing it would feel to release those cases 1 by
- 18:531. So let's do the first one.
- 18:58Swing that case and then open your hand as you release it
- 19:21when you feel you've released one of the bags, let me know by
- 19:23nodding your head. That's it.
- 19:26And then start swinging the other case in the other hand.
- 19:33Feel its heaviness and then and feel that wonderful sense of
- 19:37release as you open your hand and you release it.
- 19:46And then just feel a sense of lightness that you've let go of
- 19:53so much and you've been holding on to these emotions for years,
- 19:59if not decades, but you've now created space for something new.
- 20:08I want you to imagine what you've lost in all of those
- 20:12emotions you're now replacing with feelings of confidence,
- 20:21high self worth. Shame is replaced with pride.
- 20:30Regrets are replaced with wisdom, any frustration is
- 20:38replaced with self acceptance. And I want you to feel all of
- 20:46those wonderful resources being absorbed into your body and that
- 20:56tension deep within. Feel that that is melting away
- 21:01like an ice sculpture, and in its place is a feeling of
- 21:09complete self acceptance. You have permission to be
- 21:15unapologetically you. You don't have to meet the
- 21:21criteria of what other people deem to be acceptable.
- 21:30And I want you to get a feeling, a feeling of increasing self
- 21:36esteem and confidence and a deep belief that self acceptance
- 21:44doesn't harm your motivation, it enhances it.
- 21:48And we need to get a feeling then when self criticism, shame
- 22:03and the lack of acceptance is used as motivation, even if you
- 22:08get the outcome, you got there through coercion, even if it was
- 22:14by yourself. And I want you to feel that from
- 22:18this point forwards, you want to grow through inspiration and
- 22:25aspiration, not criticism and certainly not shame.
- 22:32But first, let's go back and heal.
- 22:39Heal apart with you there on the top of the mountain.
- 22:46Just imagine an old school from childhood.
- 22:51And I want you to imagine you're floating back to that place as
- 22:59an invisible observer. I want you to see how that
- 23:05younger version of you carried yourself.
- 23:10Did you speak up or did you make yourself small?
- 23:16Did you embrace who you were, or were you embarrassed by it?
- 23:21And I want you to go to a specific moment.
- 23:28The evening before you were made to speak up in an English class.
- 23:39And if you can recall where you would have been perhaps the
- 23:43evening before, maybe in your bedroom alone, let me know by
- 23:47nodding your head. And I want you to imagine
- 23:54entering that room and switching from being invisible, divisible.
- 24:04And that younger version of you is surprised.
- 24:07Who is this person in their room?
- 24:09But because you are them, you can convince them that you are
- 24:17them from the future. And you can do that by sharing a
- 24:22secret that only they know. Tell them things that they did
- 24:32that only they would know. And when you've built rapport
- 24:36and a connection and trust with that younger version of you, let
- 24:40me know by nodding your head. That's it.
- 24:47And I want you to listen in a way that no one else did for you
- 24:54back then. The concerns, the doubts, the
- 24:59frustrations. Just listen.
- 25:03And I want you to tell that younger version of you what you
- 25:11needed to hear back then but never heard.
- 25:18How capable, how valuable, how worthy.
- 25:29I want you to feel like you are projecting unconditional love
- 25:35from yourself to that younger version of you.
- 25:42And see see how they change. Just like a flower that hasn't
- 25:47had sunshine or water for several days, how quickly they
- 25:52change with a bit of sunshine and water and see this same
- 25:56thing happening to the child almost coming back to life and
- 26:03tell them what will happen the next day.
- 26:06That asshole teacher that will attempt to embarrass them.
- 26:15But things aren't going to go to plan for that teacher.
- 26:21I want you to imagine coaching that younger version of you.
- 26:27What to say, how to relax their chest and their neck muscles,
- 26:33how to accept themselves 100%, how to project their voice, how
- 26:44to project that confidence. And perhaps it could be a witty
- 26:52response so that if anyone attempts to kind of mark or
- 26:58laugh, you're in the driver's seat.
- 27:06And I want you to tell that younger version of you that they
- 27:11can practice it before it happens because all of this is
- 27:16in your imagination. So imagine creating that same
- 27:21scene, show that younger version of you what actually happened,
- 27:29and then rewind it and think how you would want it to have
- 27:34happened. Keep playing it back again and
- 27:38again, changing certain things, projecting more confidence, more
- 27:44self acceptance. And when that younger version of
- 27:49you knows what they would do differently, let me know by
- 27:53nodding your head. That's it.
- 28:01Rewind. Allow them to step into that
- 28:07memory with all of the knowledge and all of the coaching and all
- 28:11of the confidence that you've given them, and then observe as
- 28:17to how things are now different. The teacher still attempts to
- 28:24embarrass, but what they're not expecting is that confident,
- 28:31self accepting, empowered version of you.
- 28:39And you can keep changing it until it's exactly as you would
- 28:42have wanted it to have been. And when you find that, allow
- 28:49the childlike version of you to step out and you step in at your
- 28:54current age into the child of that body and feel what it would
- 28:59feel like to relive that moment again as you would have wanted
- 29:03it to have been. Feel defiant, empowered,
- 29:08confident. When you're full of self
- 29:11acceptance, no words can sting. You've experienced it as you
- 29:18would want to have experienced it.
- 29:21Let me know if I nodding your head.
- 29:28That's it. Imagine leaving that classroom
- 29:33back there in the room with that younger version of you.
- 29:38Tell them. Tell them they are worthy no
- 29:42matter what their weight is. Tell them that they are valuable
- 29:52no matter what anyone says or thinks.
- 29:55But also tell them that they can make changes not to please other
- 30:00people. They can change simply because
- 30:04they want to change. And they don't need permission,
- 30:10because the only permission they need is their own.
- 30:15And imagine giving that younger version of you full permission
- 30:20to make changes on your terms. And when that younger version of
- 30:28you accepts, let me know by nodding your head.
- 30:37That's it. Give that younger version of you
- 30:39a hug. Tell them that you'll see them
- 30:42again soon. Imagine floating back to that
- 30:47top of the mountain, still seeing tiny dots far below.
- 30:52All of that emotional baggage has been released.
- 30:55And then imagine floating all the way back to that comfy chair
- 31:00by the lake in New Zealand. But as you get up out of the
- 31:05chair, you notice that cat is still there, but looking leaner,
- 31:13stronger and just as confident as it did before.
- 31:24Imagine stroking that cat, saying goodbye, and floating all
- 31:27the way back to where you are now.
- 31:32But feel that all of that emotional baggage is far, far
- 31:36away at the bottom of a mountain.
- 31:42As you breathe in, breathe in that feeling of pure distilled
- 31:47worthiness. And as you exhale, notice some
- 31:52tension is missing from where it was before.
- 31:57You can breathe differently, further down, deeper in the
- 32:00diaphragm. And very soon I will count from
- 32:051:00 to 10:00 to awaken you. And you will awaken with a new
- 32:09level of self acceptance, a new feeling of release.
- 32:15So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 32:20nose. Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your
- 32:23toes, connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now
- 32:29count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 32:34Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8 open your
- 32:42eyes. Open your eyes, 910.
- 32:46Wide awake, Wide awake. Wide awake.
