Speaker 2: audience a little bit about you and how this all started.
• 1:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, Courtney, So we're the hosts of Fiction Fixation. I'm
• 1:47
Speaker 1: Courtney and I'm Rose, and we do movie and book recaps,
• 1:53
Speaker 1: mostly movies. Yeah, you know, it really is like watching
• 1:57
Speaker 1: a movie in your head. So whether or not you've
• 1:59
Speaker 1: seen them movie when you listen to our episodes. We're storytellers.
• 2:02
Speaker 1: We're both authors, and so it's a very immersive experience.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: You're gonna, you know, put your headphones on, You're gonna
• 2:08
Speaker 1: be at work with a spreadsheet on your computer and
• 2:11
Speaker 1: your boss doesn't know that you're actually completely one hundred
• 2:14
Speaker 1: percent disassociating and just watching a movie in your head
• 2:17
Speaker 1: with your best friends, because that's what it feels like. Yeah,
• 2:20
Speaker 1: you shouldn't have to do anything in silence, because that's
• 2:22
Speaker 1: what Ted Bundy did and you see what happened to him.
• 2:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, we're trying to save the world with this association.
• 2:30
Speaker 2: We're always trying to escape our inner thoughts and monologue.
• 2:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, Like you ever tried sitting in silence
• 2:37
Speaker 3: for five minutes. It's horrifying.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: Don't sit alone with your thoughts. Don't do it.
• 2:42
Speaker 2: They're intrusive at best.
• 2:46
Speaker 1: And dangerous to the world at worst. Yeah.
• 2:49
Speaker 3: Well, then also you start thinking about men, I mean,
• 2:51
Speaker 3: not everyone, probably not Natalie, right.
• 2:54
Speaker 2: No, I still often think about them because I do
• 2:57
Speaker 2: have to keep the show going. But I do often
• 3:01
Speaker 2: go and then I don't perceive you.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: Ah, she thinks about their demise. Yes, yeah, gotcha.
• 3:07
Speaker 2: Just plotting, just plotting, complaining, trying to find the misogyny
• 3:15
Speaker 2: that everyone told me existed in the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders
• 3:19
Speaker 2: documentary when I was like, I don't understand. It felt
• 3:22
Speaker 2: really like good sisterhood. And they're like, no, nambling, No,
• 3:27
Speaker 2: but that's a different episode. We're here to talk about
• 3:29
Speaker 2: rom coms. What are overall feelings about rom coms? I,
• 3:35
Speaker 2: as you know, am kind of a hater.
• 3:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, just a little cynica is nothing wrong with that.
• 3:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm always like, the story isn't that great? The
• 3:46
Speaker 2: comedy is usually just a lady falling, which is not funny.
• 3:50
Speaker 2: When I fall, it's embarrassing, and it becomes an intrusive
• 3:56
Speaker 2: thought for decades about like, remember that time you fell,
• 3:59
  Speaker 2: do you It's.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Only funny if you fall if you're like five to
• 4:03
Speaker 1: two blonde and weigh one hundred and five pounds. Yeah,
• 4:06
Speaker 1: like that's it's only funny when you fall when you're
• 4:09
Speaker 1: adorable like that. It's not funny when we fall either.
• 4:15
  Speaker 2: No.
• 4:16
Speaker 3: Well, we're also not falling into the arms of a billionaire,
• 4:19
Speaker 3: you know, we're kind of just falling in the middle
• 4:22
Speaker 3: of the grocery store.
• 4:23
Speaker 1: We're not being tripped by, you know, our neighbor's dog
• 4:28
Speaker 1: and falling into his lap.
• 4:31
Speaker 2: Yeah. I had a possible potential romantic comedy moment yesterday
• 4:38
Speaker 2: on my road trip home. I went to Culver's If
• 4:42
Speaker 2: you'd like to sponsorous list, No, but I'm about to
• 4:44
Speaker 2: talk shit, and they gave me diet coke instead of coke.
• 4:49
Speaker 2: And I was like, I'll cry for the rest of
• 4:51
Speaker 2: this car trip if this is what's going to happen.
• 4:53
Speaker 2: So I parked, I went in, I dumped the diet coke,
• 4:58
Speaker 2: I got myself a regular coke, and I got back
• 5:00
Speaker 2: in my car. And while I was like drinking said coke,
• 5:03
Speaker 2: because I'm a moron, I didn't put the lid on correctly.
• 5:07
Speaker 2: So that coke just cascaded into my lap and my
• 5:10
Speaker 2: car seat and my steering wheel, and I did think,
• 5:13
Speaker 2: oh no, I was like, Lenn pal is supposed to
• 5:16
Speaker 2: run across a parking lot with napkins for me right now?
• 5:20
Speaker 2: If only I was blonde.
• 5:22
Speaker 1: Well, what you're describing is called a meet cute, and
• 5:25
Speaker 1: we love a good meat cute. They make cutes.
• 5:27
Speaker 3: Fall into very specific categories.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: There is the category where you can eat shit, as
• 5:35
Speaker 1: in fall not literally. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. I
• 5:39
Speaker 1: thought that was universally known. You can you can eat
• 5:43
Speaker 1: shit and fall. You can spill something all over yourself, right,
• 5:50
Speaker 1: particularly when you're wearing white. Yeah T shirt. Wearing white
• 5:54
Speaker 1: is definitely a plus and it definitely gives you bonus points.
• 5:59
Speaker 1: And then there's a combination where you can spill something
• 6:03
Speaker 1: all over yourself wall you're falling into.
• 6:07
Speaker 2: Him anyone, But you changed it up and instead just
• 6:11
Speaker 2: had Sydney sweet and really need to eat and everyone
• 6:16
Speaker 2: ignore her needs. And I was like, she.
• 6:18
Speaker 3: Did spill water herself though, and she had the mas
• 6:21
Speaker 3: of her pants, yeah.
• 6:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know, and I did. I did sit
• 6:26
Speaker 2: there and I got out of the car too, you know,
• 6:28
Speaker 2: clear the ice from the seat that I was going
• 6:30
Speaker 2: to have to sit in for the next two hours,
• 6:33
Speaker 2: and I was like, I just wanted to be caffinated.
• 6:38
Speaker 2: I really wanted a milkshake, but the person in the
• 6:40
Speaker 2: drive through did not hear me say milkshake. And I
• 6:43
Speaker 2: wasn't going to fight with anybody. I did mention it
• 6:45
Speaker 2: to the guy and he went, huh, I can't believe
• 6:48
Speaker 2: she missed that. And I was like, no one's offering
• 6:50
Speaker 2: me anything for free. My SODA's ron, my milkshake is
• 6:54
Speaker 2: non existent. It's not my day. And then I immediately
• 6:58
Speaker 2: dumped my soda all over myself and it was like
• 7:02
  Speaker 2: I saw twisters. Where's Glenn?
• 7:06
Speaker 1: When I was pregnant with my now twelve year old,
• 7:09
Speaker 1: I went through the Yeah I was by now twelve
• 7:13
Speaker 1: year old. I went through the Dairy Queen drive through
• 7:16
Speaker 1: on my way to work one morning and all I
• 7:18
Speaker 1: wanted was a brownie badded Wizard and they said, I'm sorry,
• 7:22
Speaker 1: we don't do blizzards at seven forty five am. She
• 7:28
Speaker 1: was kind of like Judgy, and I was like, She's like,
• 7:30
Speaker 1: if you wanted to come back at ten thirty, bitch,
• 7:33
Speaker 1: if I could cut back at ten thirty I wouldn't
• 7:34
Speaker 1: be out of the house at seven forty five am. Yeah, okay,
• 7:39
Speaker 1: And I'm like, you don't do blizzards at like in
• 7:42
Speaker 1: the morning. She's like, no, we served breakfast during breakfast hours.
• 7:48
Speaker 1: First of all, I don't like your condescending, fucking tone,
• 7:50
Speaker 1: and I'll fucking cut you. So then I just went
• 7:55
Speaker 1: to work and cried the whole way home.
• 7:57
Speaker 2: Oh oh, you know how I know massage and he
• 8:00
Speaker 2: is reel because Ben and Jerry's took away the Brownie
• 8:02
Speaker 2: Batter ice cream that they used to sell in the
• 8:05
  Speaker 2: early aughts.
• 8:06
  Speaker 1: It's like cunts. It's like they don't know they're demographic.
• 8:11
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 8:11
Speaker 3: It's like, who do you think is eating this?
• 8:14
Speaker 1: Yeah? Who the fuck is consuming the wizards? Us? Yeah?
• 8:17
Speaker 1: Well then also who's eating these ice creams by the pints?
• 8:20
  Speaker 1: Like it's us?
• 8:21
  Speaker 2: It's us?
• 8:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, you have the bitches what they want.
• 8:24
Speaker 2: My mom used to do pint dinner where me her
• 8:27
Speaker 2: and my sister would get our separate pints and then
• 8:31
Speaker 2: we would watch TLC on Friday nights. It was Trading Spaces,
• 8:35
Speaker 2: What Not to Wear all of it? And then Lost
• 8:38
Speaker 2: DVDs and Gray's Anatomy d DVDs.
• 8:40
Speaker 1: Oh my god, that sounds amazing. Yeah, that's a long
• 8:43
  Speaker 1: ass night though.
• 8:44
Speaker 2: That's a long last night. And also like shout out
• 8:47
Speaker 2: to moms who are like, we can have a sheet
• 8:49
Speaker 2: cake for dinner? Who cares?
• 8:51
Speaker 1: That's amazing, That is amazing. That honestly would have been
• 8:55
Speaker 1: a much better solution to my problems tonight than what
• 8:57
  Speaker 1: I did.
• 8:58
Speaker 2: Honestly, Also, I would rather a rom com be that
• 9:03
Speaker 2: my uber driver, my Uber eats brought me a sheet
• 9:07
Speaker 2: cake instead of a real meal and we just split
• 9:09
Speaker 2: it together. That's a shoot, you know what it's like.
• 9:12
Speaker 1: Make it happened, Natalie, You order uber eats and then
• 9:15
Speaker 1: the guy's like, I googled your name and I saw
• 9:18
Speaker 1: your profile and I saw your your latest update about
• 9:21
Speaker 1: how you had a rough day, and I thought to myself,
• 9:23
Speaker 1: this girl doesn't need a cheeseburger, she needs a large
• 9:26
Speaker 1: like chocolate cake. And you know, I also got a
• 9:29
Speaker 1: bottle of wine for us, and yeah, like let's be
• 9:32
Speaker 1: for if I like we would call ninety one. I
• 9:34
Speaker 1: stopped your Insta and I saw that Culvers forgot your
• 9:37
Speaker 1: milkshake over the weekend. So I went to Culver's and
• 9:41
Speaker 1: I punched that bitch, and then I got you a
• 9:43
Speaker 1: milkshake and I brought it to you. What's your emergency?
• 9:47
Speaker 2: And well, And that's part of the problem with rom
• 9:50
Speaker 2: com is every action that happens in a rom com
• 9:52
Speaker 2: to me is a level like nine emergency. I'm like,
• 9:56
Speaker 2: don't let that man in your life.
• 9:58
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Now that is problem. All the red flags
• 10:01
Speaker 1: that happen in a rom com. I am like slutty
• 10:04
Speaker 1: petty for Okay. I'm like, yes, I love it, I
• 10:08
Speaker 1: want it. Okay. The newer rom coms they don't have
• 10:11
Speaker 1: enough red flags for me. Okay, these men, I fucking
• 10:14
Speaker 1: hate them. The older rom coms littered red flags. I
• 10:18
Speaker 1: love them. The newer ones not enough red flags. But
• 10:22
Speaker 1: in real life, were that to happen even an iota
• 10:26
Speaker 1: of these red flags? I restraining order. It's escapism, right,
• 10:31
Speaker 1: it's escapism, and we're in I think that what I mean,
• 10:35
Speaker 1: Like Britney said, the older rom coms had more interesting characters,
• 10:38
Speaker 1: particularly male characters, and the modern rom coms are so
• 10:42
Speaker 1: afraid of the you know, kind of tiptoeing that line
• 10:46
Speaker 1: of like misogyny and sexism that they have these guys
• 10:49
Speaker 1: that are the second coming of Jesus Christ, that never
• 10:53
Speaker 1: say anything ambiguous. Never, they never give you red flags.
• 10:57
Speaker 1: And honestly, let's be fucking for real. Have we been
• 11:00
Speaker 1: on a date with a guy who had zero green flags?
• 11:03
Speaker 1: I don't. I mean sorry that have we ever been
• 11:05
Speaker 1: on a with a guy? Have you?
• 11:08
  Speaker 2: Have you?
• 11:08
Speaker 1: Have we ever been on a date with a guy
• 11:10
Speaker 1: who had zero red flags? No? Not a single person.
• 11:14
Speaker 2: I just remember, because you know, your entire childhood is
• 11:19
Speaker 2: basically like what movies your mom like you watch at
• 11:23
Speaker 2: ten o'clock at night because you wouldn't go to bed,
• 11:26
Speaker 2: or the movies that you snuck once you had cable
• 11:29
Speaker 2: in your own bedroom for the family friendly films. And
• 11:34
Speaker 2: I never saw a lot of Nora Atfron's rom coms
• 11:38
Speaker 2: until I was an adult. And when you're an adult
• 11:41
Speaker 2: millennial and you're looking at other adult millennial women who
• 11:44
Speaker 2: have grown up with these rom coms and have a
• 11:46
Speaker 2: special place in your heart, I am like the grim Reaper.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: I'm like, hello here, I am to tell you that
• 11:53
Speaker 2: Tom Hanks isn't hot enough to rip away my dead
• 11:57
Speaker 2: mom's bookstore from me, and then also get to marry me, right,
• 12:02
  Speaker 2: catfish me.
• 12:05
Speaker 3: Yeah, we love rom coms. But there is this complicated
• 12:08
Speaker 3: relationship with them where you could see how they have
• 12:11
Speaker 3: they have infiltrated. They have really been like sleeper cell
• 12:15
Speaker 3: spies in our subconscious that have like sold us all
• 12:18
Speaker 3: of these crazy ideas. But at the same time we're
• 12:24
Speaker 3: kind of like of the mindset of you know that
• 12:26
Speaker 3: TikTok where it's like, don't you hate.
• 12:27
Speaker 1: It when girls? No, I love it when girls. So
• 12:30
Speaker 1: that's kind of how we feel about rom coms, where
• 12:33
Speaker 1: it's like we don't care if it's dumb, like we
• 12:35
Speaker 1: ride for it because it's for the women, Like it's
• 12:37
Speaker 1: for the girls. You know, we support women's rights and
• 12:39
Speaker 1: women's wrongs one hundred percent.
• 12:43
Speaker 2: And I am and again like I rewatched set it
• 12:48
Speaker 2: up with Glenn, Zoey Deutsch, Zoey Deutsch, Lucy Lou Tay
• 12:55
Speaker 2: Diggs on Saturday Night because we were so happy I
• 13:00
Speaker 2: have seen Twisters, and I was like, this movie is
• 13:06
Speaker 2: adorable because they're fixing a common problem that the two
• 13:11
Speaker 2: of them have thus getting to know one another. Thus
• 13:16
Speaker 2: I'm sold on their relationship. The other other rom coms
• 13:21
Speaker 2: to me, if you don't get me invested in who
• 13:24
Speaker 2: they are as people, like if Sandra Bullock's entire personality
• 13:29
Speaker 2: is she's bossy and she's mean and she has to
• 13:34
Speaker 2: move back to Canada and right, and Ryan Reynolds is
• 13:39
Speaker 2: just like the goof she has to marry. I can't
• 13:41
Speaker 2: invest in that. They're not people to me.
• 13:44
Speaker 1: Another one that like kind of like the same subject
• 13:47
Speaker 1: you're talking about, where they're giving as good as they get.
• 13:50
Speaker 1: So it's like a mutual thing. Is ten things I
• 13:53
Speaker 1: hate about you? Yes, perfection? Yeah, so sorry, go ahead, no, no,
• 13:59
Speaker 1: go ahead with the listening because I was going to
• 14:01
Speaker 1: say something about like ten things I hate about you,
• 14:04
Speaker 1: and I also you get Heath Ledger just double cheeked
• 14:07
Speaker 1: up on a chees day afternoon, Like ah, it's.
• 14:10
  Speaker 3: A double whammy.
• 14:11
Speaker 1: Yeah. But like what Natt was saying about, like you
• 14:13
Speaker 1: have to be invested in the characters. That's just storytelling
• 14:17
Speaker 1: one on one. The characters have to want something, and
• 14:20
Speaker 1: they have to want something compelling otherwise you do not care.
• 14:25
Speaker 1: And it's interesting to me how rom coms are really
• 14:29
Speaker 1: not easy to pull off, Like a lot of people
• 14:32
Speaker 1: just think like, oh, yeah, we'll just have two hot
• 14:34
Speaker 1: people who want to bang each other. We'll throw in
• 14:36
Speaker 1: some like silly comedy in there just like a really
• 14:39
Speaker 1: outrageous plot and it's fine you have a rom com,
• 14:41
Speaker 1: but like, no, and set it Up is a really
• 14:44
Speaker 1: great example of a rom com done right. You have
• 14:46
Speaker 1: two main characters who want something that we can relate to.
• 14:50
Speaker 1: They want their bosses to lay off of them because
• 14:53
Speaker 1: they have extremely unreasonable bosses, I mean, and so we're
• 14:57
Speaker 1: rooting for them and so, and they have a common
• 15:00
Speaker 1: interests that they're working towards and we see them falling
• 15:02
Speaker 1: for each other. Yeah, it's and then also like nobody
• 15:07
Speaker 1: has the upper hand here. And also the woman is
• 15:09
Speaker 1: not dependent on the man. And that's what a lot
• 15:11
Speaker 1: of rom coms do, is to where they make the
• 15:15
Speaker 1: whole point of the rom com is that the female
• 15:19
Speaker 1: lead will not be satisfied should she not get the
• 15:23
Speaker 1: dude at the end. That's not the point of the
• 15:27
Speaker 1: like finding love is not the point of set it Up,
• 15:31
Speaker 1: like for the male and female lead, that's not the
• 15:33
Speaker 1: point of it. That was also not the point of
• 15:35
Speaker 1: Ten Things I Hate about You. That was not the
• 15:38
Speaker 1: point of the hating game, you know things that that
• 15:41
Speaker 1: was not the point of these movies, and I think
• 15:44
Speaker 1: that's why they worked so well. Is because love.
• 15:48
Speaker 2: Was not the point.
• 15:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was. It was a cherry on top.
• 15:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, I am so glad that you've seen the Hating
• 15:55
Speaker 2: Game because I was like, I know a rom com
• 15:57
Speaker 2: where the guy is just red flags on read.
• 16:01
Speaker 1: Oh we've seen the Hating Game.
• 16:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we recapped the Hating Game.
• 16:05
Speaker 2: Oh we've recapped it too, as like our holiday movie
• 16:08
Speaker 2: recap with Julia over at pop Culture makes me jealous
• 16:11
Speaker 2: and she's like, I read the book and this is
• 16:15
Speaker 2: really cute, and this is cute, and I was like,
• 16:17
Speaker 2: he's the Zodiac killer killer. He tracked her outfits and
• 16:23
Speaker 2: he made little notes in his journal, and then he
• 16:26
Speaker 2: painted his bedroom the exact shade of greedy get out.
• 16:31
Speaker 1: She tracked his outfits too. Don't you remember sky blue
• 16:35
  Speaker 1: slate gray?
• 16:36
Speaker 3: Oh no, they were too creepy, creepy people made and yeah,
• 16:43
Speaker 3: that was a romance made in creepy heaven.
• 16:45
Speaker 1: She I remember in the book. She was like, she's like,
• 16:48
Speaker 1: yesterday with sky blue, that means today is slate gray tie.
• 16:53
Speaker 2: I do not remember that because I forgive women of
• 16:57
Speaker 2: anything normally, so she could.
• 17:00
Speaker 1: Never be creepy. You can never make me hate you.
• 17:03
Speaker 3: I mean, she could have She could have literally been
• 17:05
Speaker 3: like twirling a knife as she like stared at all
• 17:08
Speaker 3: the pictures of him that she pasted to her bedroom ceiling,
• 17:10
Speaker 3: and we would have been like, sleigh.
• 17:12
Speaker 1: Slay the house down, Queen. She's so adorable. She's like
• 17:16
Speaker 1: five foot even what is she gonna do? Murder us?
• 17:21
Speaker 1: But still it's it's gonna be adorable.
• 17:24
Speaker 2: Best friend of the podcast, Annie Segan. I love nothing
• 17:27
Speaker 2: more than a Maid for Hulu Lucy Hale movie. And
• 17:31
Speaker 2: one time I found the epitome of Lucy Hale movie
• 17:35
Speaker 2: and it was Bloomhouse made a horror movie based on
• 17:39
Speaker 2: that old show from the sixties, Paradise Island, Love Island.
• 17:44
Speaker 2: It's called Love Island, The Plane, The Plane, Fantasy Island.
• 17:48
Speaker 2: I got there and I was like, of course Lucy
• 17:53
Speaker 2: Hale is in this movie. I so the hating game.
• 17:56
Speaker 2: I was like, he's the Zodiac Killer. This is a
• 17:59
Speaker 2: murder Miss Love Lucy Hale, though, and I love when
• 18:05
Speaker 2: something at the end of it, I go, oh my god,
• 18:07
Speaker 2: that was a rom calm the entire time. I recently
• 18:11
Speaker 2: watched Amazon Prime Space Cadet, which is Armageddon for the girlies. Okay, yeah,
• 18:18
Speaker 2: and at the end she gets Kisses and I was like,
• 18:20
Speaker 2: oh my god, was this a rom com the.
• 18:22
Speaker 1: Entire name you messaged us about that? I did, Yeah,
• 18:27
Speaker 1: this one. It's on my list. I'm going to watch it,
• 18:30
  Speaker 1: just because I.
• 18:31
Speaker 2: Love to know what people I So my friend and
• 18:34
Speaker 2: I have recently been fighting about this because she'll watch
• 18:37
Speaker 2: something like that zac Efron Nicole Kidman movie and she'll
• 18:41
Speaker 2: text me in the middle of the night and be like,
• 18:42
Speaker 2: movies are bad now and Hollywood just quit and we're done.
• 18:46
Speaker 2: We can't make good movies anymore. This movie was so bad.
• 18:50
Speaker 2: And I'll be like, that movie was made for Netflix
• 18:52
Speaker 2: and she's like, well, it has Nicole Kidman in it.
• 18:56
Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, everyone needs a paycheck, including Nicole's
• 19:02
  Speaker 2: go for it.
• 19:03
Speaker 1: It's no. It's so true like people seem to think
• 19:06
Speaker 1: that actors are somehow invested in movies being good, Like, bro,
• 19:09
Speaker 1: it's a paycheck, bro. They have zero control of how
• 19:12
Speaker 1: the movie turns out.
• 19:14
Speaker 2: I've been reading and I think it was that bad.
• 19:17
Speaker 2: Also that because I set my expectations at Netflix level
• 19:22
Speaker 2: and I told her, I was like, it's a Netflix movie.
• 19:25
Speaker 2: She's like, these are award winning actors and actresses in
• 19:28
Speaker 2: this movie. I go, who need a paycheck? And know
• 19:31
Speaker 2: that people will continue to watch this movie as long
• 19:34
Speaker 2: as it's on a streaming platform. That's why Nicole Kinman
• 19:38
Speaker 2: opens all of the AMC Theater movies with we come
• 19:41
Speaker 2: to the Theater for Magic.
• 19:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, buying a paycheck?
• 19:46
Speaker 2: She needed a paycheck. I've been rewatching One Tree Hill
• 19:49
Speaker 2: and someone in the very last season Chris Keller comes
• 19:55
Speaker 2: back and someone makes fun of him for like writing
• 19:57
Speaker 2: the toaster shrudele jingle, and he's like that it pays
• 20:00
Speaker 2: my rent. He's like, it pays my rent.
• 20:04
Speaker 1: Say shut your horrmouth, shut.
• 20:05
Speaker 2: Your horrormouth, and don't skip it on YouTube. And so
• 20:10
  Speaker 2: I am trying. I'm like, no, there's like a tear
• 20:14
Speaker 2: system that should be in your head when it comes
• 20:17
Speaker 2: to movies. If I'm going to the movie to see
• 20:21
Speaker 2: anyone but you, I'm like, this has to be a
• 20:23
Speaker 2: Hollywood level. And for the most part, it was beautiful
• 20:27
Speaker 2: sets in Australia, hot people based on Shakespeare. Like that
• 20:34
Speaker 2: was a Hollywood movie that will eventually end up on
• 20:37
Speaker 2: peacocks so I can watch it over and over again.
• 20:40
Speaker 2: But if I'm sitting down to watch a maid for
• 20:43
Speaker 2: streaming movie, I'm like, I love made for streaming movies
• 20:46
Speaker 2: because it's a hot box of whatever it's gonna be
• 20:49
Speaker 2: and you never truly know.
• 20:51
Speaker 1: Ye see, if I would have went to the theater
• 20:54
Speaker 1: to see anyone but you, I'd have been mad. Yeah,
• 20:57
Speaker 1: we kind of have a hot take about anyone but you,
• 21:00
Speaker 1: like we thought. I mean I went in because he
• 21:03
Speaker 1: was a lazy writing. Because here's the thing too, I
• 21:05
Speaker 1: think movies are experienced through the lens of the individual, right,
• 21:10
Speaker 1: So I think Courtney and I were always looking at
• 21:12
Speaker 1: things through writer's lens, And there's nothing more jarring for
• 21:17
Speaker 1: a writer when you can see the writers in a movie.
• 21:20
Speaker 1: And so when you're watching anyone but you, the average
• 21:24
Speaker 1: person is probably like, oh, look at this, like this
• 21:26
Speaker 1: banter so quick. Me and Courtney are seeing a group
• 21:30
Speaker 1: of white men sitting around a table being like, and
• 21:32
Speaker 1: then she says this, and then he says this, like
• 21:34
Speaker 1: there was nothing natural about it.
• 21:36
Speaker 2: You know. I love to blame an imaginary room of
• 21:40
Speaker 2: white men for anything I don't like in a show.
• 21:42
Speaker 2: I'm like, a room full of white men decided that
• 21:46
Speaker 2: Brooke Davis should be naked in the back of Chad Michael.
• 21:49
Speaker 1: Murray's car, I mean, yeah, because ninety nine percent of
• 21:53
Speaker 1: the time, that's exactly who did that. Yeah, so, and
• 21:56
Speaker 1: you know what else, a roomful of white men are
• 21:58
Speaker 1: always like, you know what would be amazing, We're going
• 22:01
Speaker 1: to show his ass.
• 22:02
Speaker 2: Yeah, the female gaze.
• 22:05
Speaker 1: That's how you get the That's how you get the
• 22:07
Speaker 1: women's juices flowing. You know how women women love men's
• 22:11
Speaker 1: bear asses and listen.
• 22:13
Speaker 2: When I was twenty one or however old I was,
• 22:15
Speaker 2: when one of the X Men that featured Hugh Jackman
• 22:19
Speaker 2: as Wolverine came out. I believe it was the first
• 22:22
Speaker 2: one with Sophie Turner in it, and they full on.
• 22:27
Speaker 2: I went to that movie by myself, I'm pretty sure,
• 22:29
Speaker 2: and I think it was X Men Apocalypse, and all
• 22:32
Speaker 2: of a sudden, Hugh Jackman is out of bed and
• 22:35
Speaker 2: full ass, and I'm like, I do like me some
• 22:37
Speaker 2: Hugh Jackman asked, Bravo.
• 22:40
Speaker 1: He's the exception when we say not all men asks
• 22:45
Speaker 1: we may not. Hugh Jackman ass, No, that one's always welcome.
• 22:48
Speaker 1: That was a convention of women who voted to see
• 22:51
Speaker 1: that on the screen. We demanded it, We demanded it.
• 22:56
Speaker 2: But yeah, so, like a room full of women were like,
• 22:58
Speaker 2: it's time we see Jackman to ask because you don't
• 23:01
Speaker 2: get to see it very often.
• 23:02
Speaker 1: Right, yeah, very I'm sure if we just asked him.
• 23:06
Speaker 2: Like nicely, nicely, respectfully you I'm having a rough day.
• 23:14
Speaker 1: Can we just like mister Jackman.
• 23:16
  Speaker 2: Mister Jackman.
• 23:18
Speaker 1: I was gonna say back to anyone but you real quick?
• 23:21
Speaker 2: Do you know why?
• 23:22
  Speaker 1: Okay?
• 23:22
Speaker 3: So I feel like back to what you were saying too,
• 23:25
Speaker 3: where you were like, the characters have to want something.
• 23:28
Speaker 3: I feel like what the characters wanted in anyone but
• 23:31
Speaker 3: you was not compelling enough. No, because their whole thing
• 23:34
Speaker 3: was like they want the girl wants her family to
• 23:37
Speaker 3: lay off of her by pretending to have a boyfriend,
• 23:40
Speaker 3: and then the guy wanted to make his ex jealous,
• 23:43
Speaker 3: and they both like kind of accomplished that on day won,
• 23:46
Speaker 3: and yet they continued this bit that went on to
• 23:49
Speaker 3: ruin the sister's wedding.
• 23:52
Speaker 2: They also were that invested in their own plot. I
• 23:56
Speaker 2: was like, you don't care about these people, just scream
• 23:58
  Speaker 2: at your parents.
• 24:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, why do we care? So if you got
• 24:03
Speaker 1: to cause a scene like this, cause a scene causes scene.
• 24:07
Speaker 3: The only redeemon quality in my eyes to that movie
• 24:10
Speaker 3: was the Natasha Bettingfield whatever song ye unwritten Yes, Like
• 24:16
Speaker 3: that was such a cute bit. I love how that
• 24:18
  Speaker 3: came full circle.
• 24:19
Speaker 1: That was fun. And I think when you leave audiences
• 24:21
Speaker 1: on a high note like that, uh huh, they feel
• 24:24
Speaker 1: like that was a good movie truly.
• 24:26
Speaker 2: And I even though I am a very creative person
• 24:32
Speaker 2: who like is always talking about misogyny and whatever, if
• 24:36
Speaker 2: I'm in the movie theater, it's so easy to sell
• 24:39
Speaker 2: me on a movie being good. I have my popcorn,
• 24:42
  Speaker 2: I'm in a comfy seat, I'm out, I'm out of
• 24:45
Speaker 2: my house right and Sultburn. So many people have tried
• 24:50
Speaker 2: to tell me that Selburn's a bad movie, and I'm like, no,
• 24:53
  Speaker 2: it changed me.
• 24:56
  Speaker 1: In the theater.
• 24:57
  Speaker 2: I did oh.
• 24:58
Speaker 3: I feel like if you put to your point, if
• 25:00
Speaker 3: you're paying money to go see a movie, you already
• 25:03
Speaker 3: decided you're gonna like it, so it is going to
• 25:05
Speaker 3: be more difficult to not like it. And I do
• 25:08
Speaker 3: think that plays a big role in like our perception
• 25:11
Speaker 3: of movies. It's like, what mood are we in, We're
• 25:13
Speaker 3: gonna go watch it. Because we have a lot of
• 25:15
Speaker 3: mutuals that review movies, and I think a lot of
• 25:17
Speaker 3: them they feel obligated to go to the movies to
• 25:21
Speaker 3: you know, kind of review the newer movies, and so
• 25:23
Speaker 3: sometimes I think they go with already the decision that
• 25:26
Speaker 3: they're not going to like a movie.
• 25:28
  Speaker 1: Oh see.
• 25:30
Speaker 2: And when I saw Fall Guy and I told my
• 25:32
Speaker 2: mom that it was perfect because Ryan Gosling is perfect,
• 25:36
Speaker 2: she immediately called me. It was like, I just got
• 25:39
Speaker 2: twenty two clickbait articles about how bad Fall Guy is,
• 25:43
Speaker 2: and I go because negativity gets you views and people
• 25:46
Speaker 2: arguing in your comments.
• 25:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, Fall Guy was so good. It was so good.
• 25:52
Speaker 1: Rose had a hot take the Inside Out too, wasn't
• 25:55
Speaker 1: that great? And people were like, bitch, you know nothing. Yeah.
• 26:00
Speaker 1: They were like, so you're saying mental health doesn't matter.
• 26:03
Speaker 1: And I was like, I guess that's what I'm saying, bitch,
• 26:05
Speaker 1: that's fight. I just popping her well beatrit as I
• 26:10
Speaker 1: am fully medicated. Sure, like tell tell the anxious, depressive,
• 26:15
Speaker 1: depressive person that, uh, mental health doesn't matter.
• 26:18
  Speaker 2: And I know I wasn't medicated, but I also don't
• 26:21
Speaker 2: know what kind of state I was when I watched
• 26:23
Speaker 2: Inside Out one. But at the end of it, I
• 26:26
Speaker 2: had not cried. I cried more during Brother Bear.
• 26:30
  Speaker 1: Uh.
• 26:31
Speaker 2: I was just like, but then the entire time you're
• 26:34
Speaker 2: watching Brother Bear and Phil Collins is singing, You're like,
• 26:37
Speaker 2: I really wish this was the Tarzan soundtrack.
• 26:41
Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, Sorry Phil, But you know my take my
• 26:44
Speaker 3: video on Inside Out Too that I posted on TikTok,
• 26:47
  Speaker 3: I didn't say it was a bad movie. All I
• 26:49
Speaker 3: said was that it was literally a copy and pasted plot.
• 26:52
  Speaker 3: Like the plot.
• 26:54
Speaker 1: Structurally and by story beat was identical to the first movie.
• 26:58
Speaker 1: And that just disappointed me because I honestly went in
• 27:01
Speaker 1: expecting to be blown away by a new creative story
• 27:04
Speaker 1: and it just wasn't that.
• 27:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't see Inside Out Too. I did ask
• 27:10
Speaker 2: someone who saw it. I was like, oh, does Riley
• 27:14
Speaker 2: have a crush on that girl hockey player? Because then
• 27:17
Speaker 2: maybe I'm in and the person got on their high horse.
• 27:22
Speaker 2: Well maybe that's how you could read it. Maybe she
• 27:25
Speaker 2: just wanted a friend and wanted to belong. Why does
• 27:28
Speaker 2: everything have to be about sexuality? And I was like,
• 27:31
Speaker 2: because I'm struggling with mine, honestly, because.
• 27:35
Speaker 1: She's from what I understood was this is when she's
• 27:38
Speaker 1: hitting puberty, and once kids hit puberty, everything's about sexuality
• 27:42
  Speaker 1: every shit.
• 27:43
Speaker 2: And I am in the camp that we have to talk.
• 27:48
Speaker 2: In order for acceptance to actually be acceptance, there has
• 27:52
Speaker 2: to be gay people in movies for me to talk about,
• 27:55
Speaker 2: Like we have to talk about the possibility of Riley
• 27:58
Speaker 2: being queer. That's acceptance.
• 28:01
Speaker 1: Well, can we also talk about the confusing period of
• 28:04
Speaker 1: like being a young girl and being super excited about
• 28:08
Speaker 1: a female friend and like not knowing that excite, like
• 28:11
Speaker 1: where that excitement is different from a crush? Right, Because
• 28:15
Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys have had that feeling.
• 28:16
Speaker 1: Like I remember being in high school and this really
• 28:20
Speaker 1: pretty popular girl wanted to be my friend, and the
• 28:23
Speaker 1: rush that I got from that, I was literally like
• 28:26
Speaker 1: I had to pow wow with myself, like hold on, girl, Like,
• 28:29
Speaker 1: where are we on the spectrum here? Sexually? Yeah? You
• 28:33
Speaker 1: had to pinpoint the butterflies. Yeah, I was so excited.
• 28:37
Speaker 2: I truly believe that That's how I became aware of
• 28:42
Speaker 2: me not following following one hundred percent super straight on
• 28:46
Speaker 2: the spectrum of it all, because I was like, I
• 28:49
Speaker 2: truly only ever, really truly invest my whole mind and
• 28:55
Speaker 2: heart and soul of it all into relationships with women,
• 28:58
Speaker 2: and I truly only enjoy relationships with women. I've just
• 29:02
Speaker 2: never crossed that into what if we kiss? Right? And
• 29:06
Speaker 2: so if you had more rom coms where some schmo
• 29:11
Speaker 2: is trying to bring your girl coffee, but then she's
• 29:14
Speaker 2: instead thinking about all of the times that she wanted
• 29:16
Speaker 2: to hold her best girlfriend's ad and be comforted and
• 29:20
Speaker 2: have like a girl crush on that. To me, that's
• 29:24
Speaker 2: the most reasonable, realistic, relatable movie of all because again,
• 29:30
Speaker 2: how do we read it? So often we are more
• 29:34
Speaker 2: excited about our friendships and relationships when we're growing up.
• 29:38
Speaker 1: I think my first real struggle with like, wait a minute,
• 29:43
Speaker 1: these are not these are weird butterflies was that's not like,
• 29:48
Speaker 1: that's not Brendan Frasier, That's that's Rachel Wee. Give you
• 29:52
Speaker 1: me those butterflies was in The Mummy. Yeah, and then
• 29:55
Speaker 1: I saw Shakira music video and I was like, wait
• 29:58
Speaker 1: a minute. Honestly, I think I think we can all
• 30:01
Speaker 1: forgive that she care music video because I think she
• 30:03
Speaker 1: does that to everyone.
• 30:04
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yeah, but it's one of those things where
• 30:10
Speaker 2: again and I will die on this hill, like in
• 30:12
Speaker 2: order for like it to be truly acceptable, for like
• 30:18
Speaker 2: queer focus storylines to be a thing, it also has
• 30:21
Speaker 2: to be acceptable for queer storylines to be the b
• 30:24
Speaker 2: plot or the background plot or just existing within your movie.
• 30:28
Speaker 1: That is I just I was having like story ideas
• 30:31
Speaker 1: as you were saying that, because imagine what a refreshing
• 30:34
Speaker 1: story it would be to start off a rom com
• 30:37
Speaker 1: with the very typical setup of like a girl wanting
• 30:39
Speaker 1: to get her crushes attention and then having like her
• 30:42
Speaker 1: best friend helping her. But then in the end she's
• 30:45
Speaker 1: like falling for like the best friend falls for her.
• 30:48
Speaker 1: And then the girl realizes like, I actually all these
• 30:51
Speaker 1: feelings that I want to have for this boy, I
• 30:53
Speaker 1: actually have them for my best friend. Yeah, and then
• 30:56
Speaker 1: the scissor at the end, and then the scissor.
• 31:00
Speaker 2: It's all I wanted out of this season of Love
• 31:02
Speaker 2: Island with Robin Aaron. I was like, just kiss already,
• 31:06
Speaker 2: you only care about one another.
• 31:08
Speaker 1: That's all all over my feed Love Island.
• 31:11
Speaker 3: But I have not watched. I watched the season of
• 31:14
Speaker 3: Love Island the reality TV.
• 31:17
Speaker 2: That's fine, we can, we can move on. I'm trying
• 31:20
Speaker 2: very hard to not bring up Twilight because I know
• 31:22
Speaker 2: that your feed has been we'll talk forever, it'll derail
• 31:28
Speaker 2: the whole thing. But I think also in the Mummy.
• 31:32
Speaker 2: The Mummy is another example of wait, was this a
• 31:34
Speaker 2: rom com the entire time? Because they have a common
• 31:38
Speaker 2: goal and then at the end there are kisses, and
• 31:40
Speaker 2: I was like, I'm invested in them.
• 31:43
Speaker 1: But they were married at the beginning.
• 31:45
  Speaker 2: Oh were they?
• 31:46
  Speaker 1: Yeah?
• 31:47
  Speaker 2: I didn't remember the Mummy.
• 31:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't remember that. I have a really bad memory, though, Well, yeah,
• 31:54
Speaker 1: pretty sure they were married.
• 31:56
  Speaker 3: I thought they were strangers. I didn't think I loved
• 31:58
  Speaker 3: that right.
• 31:59
Speaker 2: Because he was like in a jail cell any like histor,
• 32:02
Speaker 2: and then we were like, ooh sexy. But also he
• 32:05
Speaker 2: did ask like I.
• 32:08
Speaker 3: Felt like Hollywood algorithm in the early two thousands, they
• 32:11
Speaker 3: just knew us better. They had their finger on the
• 32:14
Speaker 3: pull so much better than they do now. Because man
• 32:16
Speaker 3: was I obsessed with like ancient ancient Egypt. Yes, and
• 32:20
Speaker 3: most young girls were yes.
• 32:23
Speaker 1: Okay, no, they weren't married. They got they got married
• 32:25
Speaker 1: eventually for fas one. Never mind, I got confused. But no, yeah,
• 32:31
Speaker 1: it was a rom com like the whole time, but
• 32:34
Speaker 1: like it's like an adventure's not a rom com. It
• 32:36
Speaker 1: was like an adventure romance, which is.
• 32:41
Speaker 2: What I was reading. I wasn't reading like The Boy
• 32:44
Speaker 2: next Door. No, You're fine. I was like reading like
• 32:47
Speaker 2: the Sahara Desert Race two thousand, like sexy novel.
• 32:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, it does hit so much harder when you're not
• 32:54
  Speaker 1: expecting it.
• 32:55
Speaker 2: I also, I do think that currents are gotching me
• 33:03
Speaker 2: with this, and it's They're making their male leads have
• 33:06
Speaker 2: emotions and I'm like when, how when did this happen?
• 33:10
Speaker 2: Like in The Fall Guy when Ryan Gosling is singing
• 33:14
Speaker 2: his heart out to my therapy song all Too Well, and.
• 33:19
Speaker 1: Oh my god, that was so Courtney. You've got to
• 33:21
Speaker 1: watch Fall Guy. You are so good. I think if
• 33:26
Speaker 1: society trying to gas slide us that men have feelings, yes,
• 33:31
Speaker 1: I guess Hollywood trying to gaslight us being like men
• 33:34
Speaker 1: have feelings too, Yeah, And I'm like, when are they
• 33:37
Speaker 1: going to realize that?
• 33:40
Speaker 2: No? And I feel that because I leave the movie
• 33:42
Speaker 2: theater and I'm like, hold on, Ryan Ghostling, you almost
• 33:47
Speaker 2: got me, You almost got me. But then I'm at
• 33:49
Speaker 2: Twisters and my sister and my friends are like, what
• 33:53
Speaker 2: was your favorite Glenn Palell moment? And I was like
• 33:55
Speaker 2: that he was actually really scared during the tornado and
• 34:00
Speaker 2: almost cried almost alert. Yes, at me because in the
• 34:07
Speaker 2: original Twisters, Bill Paxton may he rest in peace. He
• 34:12
Speaker 2: wasn't scared of the tornado. Him and Helen Hunt were
• 34:15
Speaker 2: like adrenaline junkies, just being like, let's get her. And
• 34:20
Speaker 2: this Twisters is a fantastic movie. It has so much
• 34:23
Speaker 2: emotional intelligence and like action packed and like all of it,
• 34:28
Speaker 2: and Glenn Powell and a cowboy hat and.
• 34:33
Speaker 1: And confused that you're confused.
• 34:35
Speaker 2: I'm confused, and I truly think that I'm like, oh
• 34:41
Speaker 2: my god, you guys are trying to open the door
• 34:45
Speaker 2: for men to have feelings to gaslight me because one
• 34:48
Speaker 2: of my favorite lines to tell my friends when they're like,
• 34:50
Speaker 2: I can't believe a man did this to me, I'm like,
• 34:54
Speaker 2: men have to have feelings in order to have feelings
• 34:57
  Speaker 2: for you.
• 35:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, there is there is something healing about when men
• 35:05
Speaker 1: are portrayed in a vulnerable way in Hollywood, because obviously
• 35:09
Speaker 1: that wasn't our experience growing up. That's not how men
• 35:12
Speaker 1: were portrayed, and therefore that's not how men behaved. Because
• 35:15
Speaker 1: Hollywood has such a correlation with like the culture and
• 35:18
Speaker 1: how men think that they have to move, you know,
• 35:21
Speaker 1: through the world. You know, like boys don't cry, and
• 35:24
Speaker 1: men are supposed to be like tough and flip tables over,
• 35:28
Speaker 1: but those aren't emotions. Anger is not an emotion. We
• 35:31
Speaker 1: always say that men have successfully gas lit the rest
• 35:35
Speaker 1: of society into thinking that they're not emotional when they're
• 35:40
Speaker 1: daring their little hissy fits and yelling and screaming, because
• 35:43
Speaker 1: anger is not an emotion, but it is. It is.
• 35:47
Speaker 1: It's like one of the primary Like it's such a basic,
• 35:51
Speaker 1: unintelligent emotion that toddlers who have zero understanding of emotions
• 35:57
Speaker 1: or anything around them, that's like their primary emotion because
• 36:00
Speaker 1: that's how basic anger is. And it's kind of sad
• 36:02
Speaker 1: when you think about the fact that that is the
• 36:05
Speaker 1: primary emotion that men can view the like, can process
• 36:09
Speaker 1: the world through because they haven't been socialized to be
• 36:12
  Speaker 1: emotionally intelligent historically.
• 36:14
Speaker 2: Well, and the way that they diluted anger for the
• 36:17
Speaker 2: rest of us, where it's toddler rage for the majority
• 36:21
Speaker 2: of it and punching my wall. And then Taylor Swift
• 36:26
Speaker 2: releases The Tortured Poets Department, one of the angriest albums
• 36:30
Speaker 2: I've ever listened to, and people are like, oh, there
• 36:32
Speaker 2: she is whining about her boyfriends again. I go No,
• 36:35
Speaker 2: she's pissed. She's pissed that this keeps happening to her.
• 36:39
Speaker 2: She's pissed that in order to decenter men she has
• 36:42
Speaker 2: to center them first in order to get out of it.
• 36:47
Speaker 2: And you're right, it's such a basic like violent anger,
• 36:52
Speaker 2: or like eruptive anger, or that just base, inside out
• 36:58
Speaker 2: feeling of anger is so impulsive and quick and without thought.
• 37:03
Speaker 2: But then when there's like deep seated rage or hatred
• 37:08
Speaker 2: or done, like I'm just done with this, that's usually
• 37:13
Speaker 2: saved for women. And then we're told that we can't
• 37:16
  Speaker 2: drive cars.
• 37:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, like we get a little bit like snippy during
• 37:25
Speaker 1: a conversation. I'm like, you need to calm down, Oh
• 37:28
Speaker 1: my god. And it's like, bro, you just finished plastering
• 37:32
Speaker 1: a hole you put in the wall because you lost
• 37:36
Speaker 1: a video game several fucking seats, my dude.
• 37:39
Speaker 2: Think of all the ways that they try to gaslight
• 37:41
Speaker 2: us into believing that our anger isn't actually anger. It's
• 37:45
  Speaker 2: being a nag, it's complaining, it's being ungrateful, it's all
• 37:51
Speaker 2: of that, and instead it's like, no, I'm just pissed.
• 37:54
  Speaker 2: It's our Yeah, it's our.
• 37:55
Speaker 3: Period, because it's it's anger with context right, Like when
• 37:59
Speaker 3: you are complaining, you're putting context to your anger instead
• 38:04
Speaker 3: of just slashing out, which is something that's just dismissed
• 38:08
Speaker 3: as like a female experience of like what, you're not
• 38:11
Speaker 3: just punching a hole on the wall or screaming, You're
• 38:13
Speaker 3: actually like stating bullet points.
• 38:17
Speaker 1: That's ridiculous yourself literally hysterical, Like you're being hysterical right
• 38:23
Speaker 1: now with your bullet points. May I feel like male
• 38:26
Speaker 1: anger is always justified even if they have context because
• 38:30
Speaker 1: they feel entitled. Yeah, like male angler. Or they can
• 38:35
Speaker 1: be mad where they're like screaming. Let's say it was
• 38:38
Speaker 1: because they got a flat tire and they were mad.
• 38:43
  Speaker 1: That's understandable. I would be upset if I got a
• 38:46
Speaker 1: flat tire too, That's okay to be upset, So hit'd
• 38:49
Speaker 1: be angry that you got a flat tire. But to
• 38:51
Speaker 1: be screaming and yelling about it and to come home
• 38:54
Speaker 1: because you had a bad day and slam a door
• 38:58
Speaker 1: because you got a flat tire, like that is an overreaction,
• 39:04
Speaker 1: Like that is being emotional. Could you imagine if I
• 39:09
  Speaker 1: broke a heel while I was out. Let's say I
• 39:12
Speaker 1: broke a heel of my favorite pair of shoes while
• 39:13
Speaker 1: I was out, and then I came home from work
• 39:17
Speaker 1: and I started screaming and I slammed a door. Could
• 39:20
Speaker 1: you imagine how that would be interpreted? It would be like,
• 39:25
Speaker 1: what the fuck is wrong with you? It's just a heel,
• 39:28
Speaker 1: It's a material item. Just fix it.
• 39:30
Speaker 2: You would need Ryan Reynolds to swoop into your home
• 39:33
Speaker 2: and or office or both and then coax you back
• 39:38
Speaker 2: into your more gentle nature. So then that begs to question.
• 39:43
Speaker 2: Are rom coms written for women or are they written
• 39:48
Speaker 2: for the ideas that men have about women and what
• 39:51
  Speaker 2: women want?
• 39:52
Speaker 3: There are some, there are some that are definitely written
• 39:55
Speaker 3: by men for women, of like this is what women want.
• 39:58
Speaker 3: But I think we can all agree that there are
• 40:00
Speaker 3: rom coms that really get it right. And I think
• 40:04
Speaker 3: those are the ones that really understand how to convey
• 40:07
Speaker 3: romance in a story that's interesting and compelling, because, like.
• 40:10
Speaker 1: Rom coms are hard to pull off. This is what
• 40:12
Speaker 1: like I think it's lost in the conversation. Rom Coms
• 40:15
Speaker 1: have to have a compelling story, and then they have
• 40:19
Speaker 1: to have characters with believable chemistry, and then the story
• 40:22
Speaker 1: arc has to tie these things together. While at the
• 40:25
Speaker 1: same time serving comedy, Like just pick one of these things,
• 40:29
Speaker 1: and it's hard to pull off, Like pick a romance
• 40:31
Speaker 1: is hard to pull off. Pick comedy. Comedy is hard
• 40:34
Speaker 1: to pull off. And you're having these three really difficult
• 40:37
Speaker 1: like pillars of a story and you have to pull
• 40:39
Speaker 1: them all off simultaneously. It's hard, and like, very rarely
• 40:44
Speaker 1: do rom coms get them right.
• 40:45
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 40:46
Speaker 1: I think that when you're focusing too much on one audience,
• 40:52
Speaker 1: you definitely you lose touch with the other audiences. So
• 40:56
Speaker 1: I think that a lot of times rom coms are
• 40:59
Speaker 1: written by men for what they think women want to see,
• 41:03
Speaker 1: and like, I think Anyone but You was written by men,
• 41:10
Speaker 1: and they're like, of course women want to see Glenn
• 41:13
Speaker 1: Powell and men want to see Cide Sweeney. I think
• 41:16
Speaker 1: Anyone but You was written with the context of we
• 41:21
Speaker 1: have hot actors, so we can get away with a
• 41:25
Speaker 1: loose storyline, because who doesn't want to see Cidey Sweety
• 41:29
Speaker 1: and Glen Powell. So they hoped that the weaker storyline
• 41:35
Speaker 1: would not be noticed because they had stronger actors, And
• 41:42
Speaker 1: I'm sure a lot of people didn't notice it because
• 41:44
Speaker 1: Glen Powell and Sidie Sweeny are very attractive. It was.
• 41:48
Speaker 3: I mean, obviously they were straight eye candy. And the
• 41:50
Speaker 3: thing is that it was also funny, Like it was funny,
• 41:55
Speaker 3: you know, and so I think those things being considered,
• 41:59
Speaker 3: it was on surface level enjoyable. I just like I
• 42:03
Speaker 3: wanted more, dude, I wanted these characters.
• 42:05
Speaker 1: Like they had. When you really think about that movie objectively,
• 42:09
Speaker 1: you're just like, what did these people want? Yeah? What
• 42:11
Speaker 1: did these characters want? And why was I supposed to care?
• 42:14
Speaker 2: Well? And I said this while we were walking out,
• 42:18
Speaker 2: because I'm a Sydney sweet and fan and you know
• 42:22
Speaker 2: that wasn't her strongest. And my sister said, well, how
• 42:27
Speaker 2: did you feel about sid in this one? I go, well,
• 42:29
Speaker 2: I'm mad at her because she made me feel bad
• 42:33
Speaker 2: for Glenn Powell. Because Glenn Powell is still in his
• 42:35
Speaker 2: puppy dog actor stage where he's going to give his
• 42:38
Speaker 2: all and he's going to give, give, give it to give, give, give,
• 42:42
Speaker 2: and Sydney is in her uh Rihanna at the super
• 42:46
Speaker 2: Bowl not giving era. Yeah, and it clashed too much.
• 42:52
Speaker 2: I was like, how was he supposed to act against that?
• 42:55
Speaker 1: He clocked in, Glenn Powell clocked in and everything I've
• 42:59
Speaker 1: seen him in Girls fall Out. He does, He's well,
• 43:03
Speaker 1: then you have like set it up. Like set it
• 43:07
Speaker 1: up was funny. I had a capella storyline. The relationship
• 43:13
Speaker 1: between the main characters had amazing chemistry. It was natural,
• 43:17
Speaker 1: It felt really organic, And I feel like that one.
• 43:22
Speaker 1: All three pillars were definitely clicking. They've all felt equal,
• 43:27
Speaker 1: and I feel like that one did it right. Like
• 43:30
Speaker 1: that one was appealing to the masses. So I feel
• 43:33
Speaker 1: like that one, whether it was written by man or
• 43:36
Speaker 1: a woman, that one would appeal more strongly to women.
• 43:40
Speaker 2: Yeah. I A rom com that I was recently reminded
• 43:45
Speaker 2: of that I really enjoyed, but probably would have never
• 43:49
Speaker 2: put it in the rom com category was Palm Springs
• 43:52
Speaker 2: with Andy Samberg and the woman who plays the mom
• 43:56
Speaker 2: on How I Met Your Mother. Oh my god, she's
• 43:59
Speaker 2: a better actress than that. I should know her name
• 44:01
Speaker 2: because I love everything that she's done after How I
• 44:05
Speaker 2: Met your Mother, But I don't know her name. And
• 44:08
Speaker 2: the premise of that movie is Andy Samberg somehow falls
• 44:12
Speaker 2: into a time loop and so they're at a wedding
• 44:18
Speaker 2: and he's in a continuous time loop, so he's reliving
• 44:22
Speaker 2: this wedding over and over again, and then this woman
• 44:25
Speaker 2: through high jinks, also falls into the time loop. And
• 44:30
Speaker 2: because they're stuck in this time loop, and he's showing her, Yeah,
• 44:33
Speaker 2: we're stuck. There's no explanation for this. I actually having
• 44:37
Speaker 2: even looked for an explanation or way to get out.
• 44:41
Speaker 2: He's showing her how fun it could be being in
• 44:44
Speaker 2: this time loop because it's escapism at its finest. And
• 44:48
Speaker 2: she's also working on trying to convince him that they
• 44:51
Speaker 2: maybe should be working on getting out of this time loop.
• 44:54
Speaker 2: But they eventually just start liking each other, and I'm like,
• 44:57
Speaker 2: I'm sold on them. They should be together for the
• 44:59
Speaker 2: rest of their lives. Oh yeah, yeah, it's cute.
• 45:04
Speaker 1: That is cute. Just today we did It Could Happen
• 45:09
Speaker 1: to You that nineteen eighty four movie with Nicholas Cage. Yeah,
• 45:14
Speaker 1: and we, at least me I sort of determined that
• 45:17
Speaker 1: they're all trash. Yeah.
• 45:20
Speaker 3: No, I think we literally said, do you hear that?
• 45:22
Speaker 3: It's the dump truck backing.
• 45:24
Speaker 1: Up to collect all of them all adulterers. Well, because
• 45:30
Speaker 1: we were talking about how in the nineties and early
• 45:33
Speaker 1: two thousands, rom coms had they really knew how to
• 45:37
Speaker 1: weave misogyny into the female characters, because it seems like
• 45:42
Speaker 1: the male characters would have a significant other who was
• 45:46
Speaker 1: not the female lead. But then the audience was to
• 45:50
Speaker 1: completely not care about this woman because she was vain.
• 45:54
Speaker 1: It's usually that she was vain. She cared a lot
• 45:56
Speaker 1: about her appearance, so she cared a lot about money,
• 45:59
Speaker 1: and there for that made her unworthy of love, and
• 46:02
Speaker 1: it also made it okay to cheat on her.
• 46:04
Speaker 2: I on Sleepless in Seattle, right before Meg Ryan and
• 46:09
Speaker 2: Tom Hanks get together, he's dating a woman and her
• 46:12
Speaker 2: laugh sucks and I was like, oh my god. Do
• 46:15
Speaker 2: you remember when they used to convince us that if
• 46:17
Speaker 2: a woman laughed, it was a personality flaw.
• 46:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm trying to do a Kamala Harris right now.
• 46:23
Speaker 2: Yeah, Like janis off of Friends, and like literally, like
• 46:27
Speaker 2: you saw everyone make eye contact around the table after
• 46:31
Speaker 2: this woman had a really loud laugh. And it happens
• 46:33
Speaker 2: in one of my favorite rom coms, Returned to Me Too,
• 46:37
Speaker 2: where David Dukevnany's on this blind date and this woman
• 46:41
Speaker 2: is laughing obnoxiously and I was like, Aha, a personality flaw.
• 46:45
Speaker 2: The woman be laughing. And in another I think it's
• 46:50
Speaker 2: you've got mail and you've got mail. They're trying to
• 46:52
Speaker 2: make me be against Greg Kinneer and Parker Posey, and
• 46:57
Speaker 2: I made Julia pause the movie. I was like pause.
• 47:00
Speaker 2: I was like, so you tell me at the end
• 47:03
Speaker 2: of this movie, I'm supposed to be okay that Greg
• 47:06
Speaker 2: kinnear and Parker Posey got dumped for no fault of
• 47:10
Speaker 2: their own. Yeah, I love Parker Posey. And she's like, well,
• 47:15
Speaker 2: in the name of true love. And I was like,
• 47:17
Speaker 2: he just told her her dead mom store No.
• 47:22
Speaker 1: No, like what, oh, jail, jail, jail, and yeah.
• 47:29
Speaker 2: And it's so funny because a lot of those younger
• 47:33
Speaker 2: rom coms had better storylines but also did so much
• 47:37
Speaker 2: worse to women because they're like, you're all flawed, so
• 47:40
Speaker 2: as soon as a man smiles at you love him
• 47:43
  Speaker 2: the end.
• 47:46
Speaker 1: Like your entire existence revolves around finding a man to
• 47:49
  Speaker 1: love you.
• 47:50
Speaker 3: And there was also like a teared system with women
• 47:53
Speaker 3: where it was like the women that are important are
• 47:57
Speaker 3: you and your best friend, and then the rest of
• 47:59
Speaker 3: them are whores and you can see other men. Yes,
• 48:03
Speaker 3: no one cares about them.
• 48:04
Speaker 1: And it was just like, Okay, I guess like eight
• 48:07
Speaker 1: year old dust right watching this, like Okay, Yeah.
• 48:11
Speaker 2: Because I also think about my favorite rom coms growing
• 48:15
Speaker 2: up were returned to me because I had gorillas and
• 48:19
Speaker 2: I got to watch it be filmed at the Brookfield Zoo.
• 48:23
Speaker 2: And I'm in love with David Dukeevney and Minnie Driver.
• 48:26
Speaker 2: They are the poles of my sexuality. I also loved
• 48:32
Speaker 2: Must Love Dogs. That's a cute one.
• 48:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, I do love John Cusa.
• 48:37
Speaker 2: I love John Cusa, which probably is a flaw at
• 48:41
Speaker 2: some point because I think he's.
• 48:42
Speaker 1: Mean, probably you know, why not in the movies.
• 48:46
Speaker 2: He's not not in the movies though, but I think
• 48:48
Speaker 2: he's mean. And Fools Rush In with Matthew Perry, who
• 48:55
Speaker 2: I've never enjoyed in anything else after Fools Rush In
• 48:59
  Speaker 2: and Penela Cruise.
• 49:01
Speaker 1: Wasn't Matthew McConaughey in that one, No, that's Fool's Gold
• 49:04
  Speaker 1: watcha Hudson right.
• 49:07
Speaker 2: It might not be Penelope Cruise. It might be Selma Hyatt.
• 49:10
Speaker 2: I think it's Selma Hyat. Yeah. I have the Ron
• 49:13
Speaker 2: Lady dancing in my head.
• 49:15
Speaker 1: So my favorites growing up were while you were Sleeping.
• 49:20
Speaker 1: I love that one too, Alabama, And I think I
• 49:26
Speaker 1: know while You're Sleeping into Alabama, and I think those
• 49:30
Speaker 1: are really the only two that I kept going back
• 49:33
Speaker 1: to that I watched like repeatedly. And The Practical Magic.
• 49:39
Speaker 1: But that's not really be a rom com. It kind
• 49:41
Speaker 1: of is, though, it kind of is.
• 49:43
Speaker 2: But again it's one of those rom coms where because
• 49:46
Speaker 2: he's almost like obsolete to the story, I'm like, I
• 49:50
Speaker 2: just get to revel in Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman
• 49:53
Speaker 2: in Stockard Channing, and that's what I want.
• 49:57
Speaker 1: I almost, Okay, maybe this is a hot but I
• 50:00
Speaker 1: almost wish we could just unravel the whole genre of
• 50:04
Speaker 1: rom com and just focus on making good movies that
• 50:08
Speaker 1: have a romantic subplot. Yes, like, let's just do that,
• 50:11
Speaker 1: because I feel like trying to squeeze things into the
• 50:14
Speaker 1: category of a rom com. Again, you're just like in
• 50:17
Speaker 1: a corner where it's like it has to be funny
• 50:19
Speaker 1: and it has to be hought. But like also story,
• 50:22
Speaker 1: you know, it's too much.
• 50:24
Speaker 2: It is too much. It's a lot for one screenwriter
• 50:28
Speaker 2: or a room full of white men to tackle.
• 50:30
Speaker 1: Imagine if they had tried to make Practical Magic of romcom,
• 50:33
Speaker 1: they would have destroyed the movie.
• 50:34
Speaker 2: Yes, and because I read all of Alice Hoffman's books.
• 50:39
Speaker 2: All of Alice Hoffman's books about which is have a
• 50:42
Speaker 2: romantic subplot that doesn't takes spotlight from the actual woman's story.
• 50:48
  Speaker 2: It's like, I think, it's why I'll watch Legally Blonde
• 50:51
Speaker 2: every time it's on TV because at the end, Elle
• 50:55
Speaker 2: Woods gets to make fools of all of them.
• 50:58
Speaker 1: Slay was that inn?
• 51:01
Speaker 2: I think so because it hinges on her breakup and
• 51:04
Speaker 2: then she gets Luke Wilson in the end.
• 51:07
Speaker 3: So yeah, I think just kind of unraveling that, you know,
• 51:11
Speaker 3: that little box of like it has to be, you know,
• 51:15
Speaker 3: slapstick comedy the whole time.
• 51:18
Speaker 2: Then also, there's a very new and traditional rom com
• 51:22
Speaker 2: that I really enjoyed, and it was Jlo's Marry Me.
• 51:26
Speaker 2: I loved the soundtrack. I love against my own better judgment,
• 51:32
Speaker 2: I love Owen Wilson, and I love this whole idea.
• 51:37
Speaker 2: She was in a panic vine she saw his little
• 51:40
Speaker 2: poster and she said, I will marry you. And then
• 51:43
Speaker 2: because of her celebrity and it's a little not it's
• 51:46
Speaker 2: like Jlo's take on Nodding Hill, but because of her
• 51:50
Speaker 2: like notoriety, they have to keep up that act because
• 51:53
Speaker 2: it's like getting her TikTok views or something.
• 51:57
Speaker 1: I haven't seen that one, but I do haven't seen either.
• 52:00
  Speaker 2: I think it's like I loved it. I went to
• 52:05
Speaker 2: the movie to say that because I do love a
• 52:07
Speaker 2: Jalo rom com, Like that's something toxic about me.
• 52:11
Speaker 3: Well, I mean objectively, like the Jalo rom coms hit. Yeah,
• 52:15
Speaker 3: like she is, you know, despite whatever she may be
• 52:19
Speaker 3: in real life, on screen, she is so charming.
• 52:22
Speaker 2: I know. And my best friend's favorite rom coms all
• 52:27
Speaker 2: revolve around Julia Roberts, and I'm like, yeah, those were
• 52:31
Speaker 2: good rom coms to be watching.
• 52:33
Speaker 1: I honestly I hated Pretty Women.
• 52:36
Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I loved it, but I so when I
• 52:41
Speaker 2: was a kid and I realized that I was like
• 52:45
Speaker 2: chubby and not anything that anyone in Hollywood or a
• 52:49
Speaker 2: man would ever want. I then became obsessed with stories
• 52:55
Speaker 2: revolving around sex workers, like women who were using their
• 52:59
Speaker 2: life like sex appeal to get their way. So I
• 53:03
Speaker 2: loved Pretty Woman. I loved every Lifetime Made for Lifetime
• 53:07
Speaker 2: movie where you woke up and you were accidentally a
• 53:09
Speaker 2: sex worker. I love that. Okay, Coyote Ugly, Oh, I
• 53:15
Speaker 2: do love Coyote Ugly. I love Coyote ugly for less
• 53:19
Speaker 2: anything that was like sex work of Jason. I was like,
• 53:21
Speaker 2: this is for me, It's for me, It'll teach me
• 53:25
Speaker 2: how to take a hold of mysexuality. And I didn't.
• 53:29
Speaker 2: It didn't teach me anything, but I loved them.
• 53:34
Speaker 1: So I saw Cruel Cruel Intentions for the first time
• 53:37
Speaker 1: earlier this year. Yeah, and I'm grateful that I saw
• 53:42
Speaker 1: it for the first time earlier this year because I
• 53:44
Speaker 1: feel like, if you know, thirteen year old me, or
• 53:47
Speaker 1: to have seen it when I was thirteen, my life
• 53:50
Speaker 1: would have taken a different trajectory because I would have
• 53:52
Speaker 1: made it my whole fucking personality, like I would have
• 53:57
Speaker 1: been Sarah Michelle Geller from Cruel Intentions, like it would
• 54:02
Speaker 1: have been my whole fucking personality. So I'm really grateful
• 54:06
Speaker 1: that that's just something that escaped my grasp for so long,
• 54:11
  Speaker 1: just like I'm really glad that I never I didn't
• 54:13
Speaker 1: see Gossip Girl like when I was a teenager. I
• 54:17
Speaker 1: saw it like just a couple of years ago, because
• 54:21
Speaker 1: I would have been, like I am Serena vander Woodson. Yeah, yeah, I.
• 54:27
Speaker 2: So I read the Gossip Girl in the A List books,
• 54:32
Speaker 2: so I've read them before it was a show. But
• 54:35
Speaker 2: I also like, because I and I've admitted this on
• 54:38
Speaker 2: the podcast before, like I was an imaginary mean girl
• 54:42
Speaker 2: where I really thought that I could like pull off
• 54:45
Speaker 2: hot girl, popular girl antics even though I was not
• 54:49
Speaker 2: hot girl, popular girl. I was like, but I'd be
• 54:52
Speaker 2: mean just like them. And I think it's because of
• 54:56
Speaker 2: like cruel intentions, Gossip Girl, all of these things where
• 55:01
Speaker 2: you're like Regina, George gets on top, that's me baby,
• 55:04
Speaker 2: and the Bachelor franchise.
• 55:07
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so true. Hollywood really did make mean sexy. Yes,
• 55:13
Speaker 3: it still kind of is they still do? They still
• 55:15
Speaker 3: push that narrative of like mean and cruel is sexy.
• 55:20
Speaker 2: Yes, and they try to teach you that a man
• 55:22
Speaker 2: loves nothing more than when a woman's mean to him.
• 55:26
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean kind of does. Yeah that's not nossue. Yeah,
• 55:30
Speaker 1: that's very true. I was probably one of like the
• 55:35
Speaker 1: sweetest people ever until I was like twenty five. Like
• 55:40
  Speaker 1: literally I was like a doormat and I didn't hit
• 55:43
Speaker 1: my mean girl era until I was like twenty five,
• 55:47
Speaker 1: and then I was just like reputation came out and yeah,
• 55:52
Speaker 1: it culture was a whole bang cultural reset.
• 55:56
Speaker 3: Yeah, can we talk about though, like, are you.
• 56:00
Speaker 1: In your thirties now?
• 56:02
Speaker 2: I am thirty five.
• 56:03
Speaker 3: Okay, we're all in our thirties a different different Uh
• 56:08
Speaker 3: what is it called spectrums of thirty Here? I'm on
• 56:11
Speaker 3: the lower I mean, sorry, the higher end. I'm pushing forty.
• 56:16
Speaker 3: But there is something to be said about empowerment that
• 56:20
Speaker 3: just kind of like awakens in women in your thirties.
• 56:24
Speaker 1: And I think about it all the time because the
• 56:28
Speaker 1: amount of cat calling and harassment that I faced as
• 56:33
Speaker 1: a literal child walking to school and now as a
• 56:38
Speaker 1: grown woman, men are scared to make eye contact with me.
• 56:42
Speaker 1: And I'm like, I know I'm still hot, all right,
• 56:45
Speaker 1: So you're just not looking at me because you know
• 56:49
Speaker 1: that I'm not a little girl that you can talk
• 56:50
Speaker 1: at anymore. They know that there's a taser in your purse.
• 56:56
Speaker 2: I do you remember the first time that I started
• 56:58
Speaker 2: to become aware that like men were scared, like almost two,
• 57:04
Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it happened when we took uh we
• 57:07
Speaker 2: took my nephew for his first baby haircut. And you know,
• 57:12
Speaker 2: my nephew's friendly, so he waved at some guy who
• 57:14
Speaker 2: was also walking with his some child to a motorcycle
• 57:19
Speaker 2: or whatever. And I didn't hear this man say hello
• 57:23
Speaker 2: or wave back to my nephew or whatever. But all
• 57:25
Speaker 2: of a sudden, he's over explaining to me why that happened.
• 57:28
Speaker 2: He's like that kid said hi, So I said hi back,
• 57:31
Speaker 2: and I was like, I wish men would understand that.
• 57:33
Speaker 2: That makes me more nervous, Like I kind have ignored
• 57:37
Speaker 2: you just waving and saying hi, but the fact that
• 57:39
Speaker 2: you have to explain to me, like I'm a normal guy.
• 57:42
Speaker 2: It was happening because I'm normal. That that's what makes
• 57:45
Speaker 2: me know you're dangerous.
• 57:47
Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. I love that though. Yeah, when I
• 57:50
Speaker 1: was it was a couple of months ago, I was
• 57:52
Speaker 1: walking out of Kroger and like this guy had been
• 57:54
Speaker 1: following me for like a minute, and his car just
• 57:57
Speaker 1: happened to be next to my car, and he had said, like,
• 58:00
Speaker 1: I'm not following you, I'm just going to my car.
• 58:04
Speaker 1: And he's like, you know, and he's like, you know,
• 58:07
Speaker 1: I don't want you to think I'm following you. You
• 58:10
Speaker 1: know I'm not. And I said, I'm not worried, like
• 58:17
Speaker 1: and it was because I won. I did just assume
• 58:19
Speaker 1: that he was just going to his car. But also,
• 58:22
Speaker 1: like I could have taken him. Yeah, and we both
• 58:28
Speaker 1: knew that. I do love.
• 58:33
Speaker 3: I do love kind of how women start demanding more
• 58:36
Speaker 3: respect from men as they get older, as we like.
• 58:39
  Speaker 3: And that's why it's all Courtney, because I'm like, I
• 58:41
Speaker 3: love getting older. I love getting older because the older
• 58:44
Speaker 3: you get, the further away you get from the constraints
• 58:47
Speaker 3: that are put on women of like how you're supposed
• 58:49
Speaker 3: to look, because you start to realize, like, Okay, I
• 58:52
Speaker 3: passed that prime age right when you're in your twenties
• 58:55
Speaker 3: and you're at your peak hotness, and like, I'm not
• 58:58
Speaker 3: held to those standards anymore, so now I'm free to
• 59:01
Speaker 3: create my own. But then also, men being intimidated by
• 59:06
Speaker 3: women as we get older is just such a power
• 59:09
Speaker 3: move to me. Like I grew up with no male
• 59:13
Speaker 3: influences in my life and just being terrified of male attention,
• 59:17
Speaker 3: which was like every day it was like psychological warfare,
• 59:21
Speaker 3: just walking to school because these guys would literally slow
• 59:24
Speaker 3: down in their car to talk to me, and I'm like,
• 59:26
Speaker 3: pee and my pants scared. And now I am walking
• 59:29
Speaker 3: around like daring someone, like daring a man to try to.
• 59:32
Speaker 1: Talk to me. I would love, However, that badassy unfortunately
• 59:39
Speaker 1: melts very quickly with one category of men, and I
• 59:43
Speaker 1: hate myself for this, and it's old men. Like old
• 59:46
Speaker 1: men really bring me back. They make immediately make me
• 59:51
Speaker 1: feel like I'm five years old and I don't know
• 59:52
Speaker 1: how to stand up to myself anymore.
• 59:54
Speaker 2: Oh see, for me, it's the opposite. I get like
• 59:57
Speaker 2: gooey molasses on the inside because I didn't have grandpa's
• 1:00:00
Speaker 2: growing up, so I'm always trying to find a grandpa
• 1:00:04
Speaker 2: from my grandpa. I'm like, I just want to play
• 1:00:08
Speaker 2: like dominoes with you and talk about the war.
• 1:00:13
Speaker 1: They make me uncomfortable. There's this old guy at my
• 1:00:16
Speaker 1: grocery store. Every time he sees me, he starts flirting
• 1:00:19
Speaker 1: with me, and I can't take it and stride because
• 1:00:22
Speaker 1: I just I'm like brought back to that time where
• 1:00:25
Speaker 1: I felt like really helpless, because now I'm like, it's
• 1:00:28
Speaker 1: not even you know, like you're an old man, so
• 1:00:30
Speaker 1: like if I tell you off, I just look like
• 1:00:32
Speaker 1: a bitch. So I'm kind of put in like this,
• 1:00:35
Speaker 1: Like the power imbalance doesn't feel right well.
• 1:00:37
Speaker 2: Empower and balance is a huge part of it, where
• 1:00:41
Speaker 2: it's like number one, you have an age difference so
• 1:00:45
Speaker 2: we were still one of the generations. I was taught
• 1:00:48
Speaker 2: to respect the old people despite who they are.
• 1:00:52
Speaker 1: To say how awful old people are. I was taught
• 1:00:55
Speaker 1: to respect old people. But now that my dad is dead,
• 1:01:00
Speaker 1: I feel like I don't have to do that.
• 1:01:03
Speaker 2: I've evolved out of that.
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: I let that go with my dad. He took that
• 1:01:10
Speaker 1: lesson with him. That idea has been cremated with my
• 1:01:13
Speaker 1: dad's ashes. It's now on a shelf in my living room.
• 1:01:15
Speaker 2: I released it, and I release sings seamy, but no,
• 1:01:20
Speaker 2: like when it comes to I love like an old
• 1:01:22
Speaker 2: man movie character. I'm like, look at that old man,
• 1:01:26
Speaker 2: look at him so cute. I also love that we
• 1:01:28
Speaker 2: are in an age of rom coms where older women
• 1:01:32
Speaker 2: because Julia Roberts and j Lo and all of them
• 1:01:35
Speaker 2: still look real snatched.
• 1:01:36
Speaker 1: They still they do.
• 1:01:38
Speaker 2: They still get to be in movies. They get to
• 1:01:40
Speaker 2: be women in their fifties, like finding love for the
• 1:01:43
Speaker 2: first time or second time or third time.
• 1:01:47
Speaker 1: I love that, And you know, I think that's coming
• 1:01:49
Speaker 1: from the idea of like women being like, hey, I
• 1:01:53
Speaker 1: get to still be sexy if I want to, right, Like,
• 1:01:56
Speaker 1: if I want to be sexy in my fifties.
• 1:01:58
  Speaker 2: I can.
• 1:01:59
Speaker 3: If I want to wear skin tight leather in my fifties,
• 1:02:02
  Speaker 3: I'm going to and who's gonna tell me I can't.
• 1:02:05
Speaker 1: There is a new rom com I think it's on Hulu,
• 1:02:10
Speaker 1: and it's about like an older woman I want to say.
• 1:02:12
Speaker 1: She's in like her like fifties sixties, and she actually
• 1:02:17
Speaker 1: hires a man in his like twenties who's like, yes.
• 1:02:21
Speaker 2: It's his name is Leo Grande. Yeah, and it's like,
• 1:02:25
Speaker 2: thank you Leo Grande or something. And it's Emma Thompson,
• 1:02:28
Speaker 2: so it might be she's in her upper sixties.
• 1:02:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, So she's in her upper sixties. She hires him,
• 1:02:33
Speaker 1: and he's like a he's like a jigglow. She hires him,
• 1:02:38
Speaker 1: and she she just wants to get just like railed,
• 1:02:43
Speaker 1: which is all I like, good for you.
• 1:02:47
  Speaker 2: All.
• 1:02:47
Speaker 1: In wait a minute, what's the name of this movie?
• 1:02:50
Speaker 1: I got to check it out.
• 1:02:50
Speaker 2: It's like, here's to you Leo Grande or thank you
• 1:02:54
Speaker 2: Leo Grande or something. Good luck to you Leo Grande,
• 1:02:57
Speaker 2: good luck to you Leo Gronde.
• 1:03:00
Speaker 3: The other thing as you get older, too, is you
• 1:03:03
Speaker 3: start to realize how there's like this I don't know
• 1:03:06
Speaker 3: there's this insecurity that comes with youth, and that comes
• 1:03:10
Speaker 3: with even like attractiveness, you know where you like now,
• 1:03:14
Speaker 3: you know, in my late thirties, I will look at women,
• 1:03:17
Speaker 3: you know, young women in their twenties that are just
• 1:03:20
Speaker 3: like dropped at gorgeous, and I could see the insecurity
• 1:03:23
Speaker 3: oozing out of their pores. Yes, and it's just like,
• 1:03:26
Speaker 3: holy shit, I am more confident, like three times your
• 1:03:29
Speaker 3: size than like you are well.
• 1:03:32
Speaker 2: And I think that was my biggest red flag for
• 1:03:36
Speaker 2: the idea of you, is that here's Anne Hathaway and
• 1:03:40
Speaker 2: she's trying so hard to be like superior and confident,
• 1:03:44
Speaker 2: but it's still reading as insecure because of how young
• 1:03:48
Speaker 2: and hot he is. And I'm like, you are fucking
• 1:03:50
Speaker 2: Anne Hathaway. You own a goddamn art gallery. You're living
• 1:03:55
Speaker 2: the dream. Your refrigerator is broken, your boyfriend is rich.
• 1:03:59
Speaker 1: Should you want Yes, that's such a good point, and she.
• 1:04:04
Speaker 2: Should have immediately screamed that to him. She should have
• 1:04:07
Speaker 2: been like, you're rich, buy me a refrigerator.
• 1:04:11
Speaker 1: Well, and especially like when they're out of when they're
• 1:04:13
Speaker 1: out there at the pool and she ends up putting
• 1:04:16
Speaker 1: on her like dena mumu bit you're and fucking Hathaway
• 1:04:19
Speaker 1: go out there naked and show those little twenty bitch
• 1:04:22
Speaker 1: twinks what the fuck is up? Okay.
• 1:04:26
Speaker 2: Also I'll show up to fucking Meyer in shorts where
• 1:04:32
Speaker 2: they clearly don't fit anymore, or they're shore, or they're
• 1:04:35
Speaker 2: too big or their whatever maybe my bra is on,
• 1:04:38
Speaker 2: who's to say and whatever, and still have like the
• 1:04:41
Speaker 2: most main character energy of my life because I'm like,
• 1:04:44
Speaker 2: I'm thirty five and I don't care about the male
• 1:04:46
Speaker 2: gaze anymore. And that's all I wanted from Anne Hathaway.
• 1:04:50
Speaker 2: I was like, you're the main character of this fuck.
• 1:04:53
Speaker 2: You're the main character of my fucking life, Anne Hathaway.
• 1:04:56
Speaker 1: Like what a what a powerful moment it could have been,
• 1:04:59
Speaker 1: because because you're so right, like I mean, and also
• 1:05:03
Speaker 1: it's not like she's not conventionally attractive in every way
• 1:05:07
Speaker 1: I would understand, Like, honestly, that moment would have hit
• 1:05:10
Speaker 1: the whole moment of Anne Hathaway being insecure about going
• 1:05:13
Speaker 1: out in a bikini in front of other girls. It
• 1:05:15
Speaker 1: would have hit if she had been, you know, maybe
• 1:05:18
Speaker 1: a little overweight. It would have been like, Okay, well,
• 1:05:21
Speaker 1: you know, she feels like she's going to be compared
• 1:05:23
Speaker 1: to these girls objectively, her body is identical to those
• 1:05:26
Speaker 1: young women's bodies that give me a break. She's what
• 1:05:28
Speaker 1: like a size fucking two, A zero?
• 1:05:32
  Speaker 2: I want you?
• 1:05:33
Speaker 1: Is there an ounce of fat on you? There's not? Yeah,
• 1:05:37
Speaker 1: And like, hey, I saw you sitting down. Yeah, she
• 1:05:41
Speaker 1: was sitting and no fat detected, no fat. I am
• 1:05:47
Speaker 1: ten pounds heavier right now than I was in my twenties.
• 1:05:52
Speaker 1: But I just got back from a cruise wearing cutoff
• 1:05:54
Speaker 1: shorts and a crop top, and I never would have
• 1:05:57
Speaker 1: done that in my twenties. Yeah, your most boob job.
• 1:06:00
  Speaker 1: I don't wear bra.
• 1:06:01
Speaker 2: Anymore so because you earned it.
• 1:06:05
Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't pay eight thousand dollars just to wear
• 1:06:07
Speaker 1: a bra nights. For the record, she got her boobs
• 1:06:10
Speaker 1: made smaller I did, which I was hilarious. And now
• 1:06:14
Speaker 1: I'm like a c or id hell because yes, when
• 1:06:17
Speaker 1: you say boob job, I think people probably assume you
• 1:06:20
Speaker 1: got boobs put in, you got boobs taken out. Like
• 1:06:22
Speaker 1: that's an atrocity. Honestly, Now I don't feel self conscious
• 1:06:26
Speaker 1: of people looking at them, even dudes. I'm just like,
• 1:06:29
Speaker 1: take a good look. They're now no like and girls
• 1:06:33
Speaker 1: in bars I let them touch them.
• 1:06:35
Speaker 2: Yes, as you should, that's your right. But you know what, Anne, happily,
• 1:06:39
Speaker 2: you know those girls wouldn't have been able to be
• 1:06:42
Speaker 2: mean to you and tell you that shitty story if
• 1:06:45
Speaker 2: you had shown up topless to that pool because you
• 1:06:48
Speaker 2: were in Europe and then like dry humped your your
• 1:06:51
Speaker 2: young boyfriend just to prove a point.
• 1:06:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, you should have walked out there topless in a
• 1:06:57
Speaker 1: thong and straddled him and straddled him.
• 1:07:00
Speaker 3: Well then also, it's like use your age and your
• 1:07:03
Speaker 3: experience to shame the fuck out of these young women
• 1:07:05
Speaker 3: because it's like you know how to do it.
• 1:07:07
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. These bitches are playing checkers, yes,
• 1:07:11
Speaker 1: play chess, yeah, like they're in the sandbox. Bit you
• 1:07:15
Speaker 1: should be at the gun store. Like have you seen
• 1:07:19
Speaker 1: that Caleb Hairen video?
• 1:07:21
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 1:07:22
Speaker 1: Oh god, I thought it. It lives written free in
• 1:07:25
  Speaker 1: my mind.
• 1:07:26
Speaker 2: Like literally, I was like, that's what Ann should have done.
• 1:07:29
Speaker 2: Should have topless, I mean, like, look at these titties.
• 1:07:32
Speaker 2: Then dried home her boyfriend and then jumped into the
• 1:07:36
Speaker 2: pool like literally shoved his face away from her to
• 1:07:39
Speaker 2: be like I'm done now, and then jumped in the.
• 1:07:41
Speaker 1: Pool literally she should have sprawled out on that thing
• 1:07:45
Speaker 1: and just been like, pleasure me in front of them,
• 1:07:49
Speaker 1: in front of them, and while she ate grapes, like honestly,
• 1:07:52
Speaker 1: and I think about this all the time because okay,
• 1:07:54
Speaker 1: like there's always something on TikTok with a gen Zer
• 1:07:58
Speaker 1: kind of making fun of a MILLENNI or a gen
• 1:08:01
Speaker 1: xer for being older. And it drives me fucking wild
• 1:08:04
Speaker 1: because I'm like, motherfuckers, that is how time works.
• 1:08:07
Speaker 2: Like I'm not understand you.
• 1:08:09
Speaker 1: It is coming for you too. And the thing is
• 1:08:11
Speaker 1: that looking conventionally hot in your thirties and forties is
• 1:08:16
Speaker 1: so much fucking harder than looking hot in your twenties.
• 1:08:20
Speaker 1: Like you don't get an award for being hot in
• 1:08:22
Speaker 1: your twenties. That's not it's not hard to do, babes.
• 1:08:25
Speaker 1: It's not hard to do. You've got youth on your side,
• 1:08:27
Speaker 1: you've got metabolism on your.
• 1:08:28
Speaker 2: Side, and we have die red number nine on our side.
• 1:08:32
Speaker 2: And all of the preservatives they put in lunchibles.
• 1:08:35
Speaker 1: That's why millennials look so much younger, is all the
• 1:08:38
  Speaker 1: luxible preservatives.
• 1:08:40
  Speaker 2: Sick.
• 1:08:42
Speaker 1: We're out here, we're out here, like trying to sprint
• 1:08:45
Speaker 1: away from diabetes. Like at full you know, full speed,
• 1:08:49
Speaker 1: like do you break? Do you know how much work
• 1:08:50
Speaker 1: it takes to look like half decent in your thirties?
• 1:08:55
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 1:08:55
Speaker 1: Well it kills me because I see some of these
• 1:08:58
Speaker 1: gen zers get on the internet and they're like, how
• 1:09:01
Speaker 1: old do I look? And with my full chest, I'm
• 1:09:03
Speaker 1: like thirty five and they're like, I'm twenty two and
• 1:09:05
  Speaker 1: I'm like.
• 1:09:06
  Speaker 2: Which, I'm like forty seven. I'm like, I don't. I don't.
• 1:09:12
Speaker 1: Essentially, I'm not about to get on the internet and
• 1:09:13
Speaker 1: be like how old do I look? Don't fucking answer
• 1:09:16
Speaker 1: that question. Don't answer that because if you say anything
• 1:09:19
Speaker 1: older than what I am, I will die on the inside.
• 1:09:22
Speaker 1: All right, I will die on the inside.
• 1:09:25
Speaker 2: We should probably because we are running over an hour,
• 1:09:29
Speaker 2: move into our closing ceremony. Don't worry. You're always invited back,
• 1:09:36
Speaker 2: so when you're when you're onto other men, I've tolerated before.
• 1:09:41
Speaker 2: We end with a lesson in a manifestation. So what
• 1:09:46
Speaker 2: would you like the audience to take away from looking
• 1:09:50
Speaker 2: deeply into the rom coms that we're watching.
• 1:09:53
Speaker 3: I think rom coms are just escapism for the most part,
• 1:09:57
Speaker 3: so I don't think we should be watching them. With
• 1:10:00
Speaker 3: the intent to absorb any messaging or to see them
• 1:10:03
Speaker 3: as some sort of like handbook for how to get
• 1:10:06
  Speaker 3: a man anything.
• 1:10:08
Speaker 1: Like that, because it's not real. No, I don't think
• 1:10:14
Speaker 1: that anybody should feel shamed to watch rom coms, because, like,
• 1:10:17
Speaker 1: I think that a lot of times people feel like
• 1:10:20
Speaker 1: shamed to like admit what they like, or you know,
• 1:10:24
Speaker 1: they'll be like, oh, like, I don't like rom comms,
• 1:10:27
Speaker 1: And it's like, you know what, It's okay to like
• 1:10:28
Speaker 1: your trash, right, that's perfectly fine, like your trash, because
• 1:10:35
Speaker 1: art is subjective. And if you like your rom com trash,
• 1:10:38
Speaker 1: like your rom com trash, I like my rom com trash.
• 1:10:41
Speaker 1: So it's okay to like what you like, even if
• 1:10:44
Speaker 1: the masses hate it.
• 1:10:46
Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, I think not only is media literacy in
• 1:10:52
Speaker 2: our culture on an all time low, but I also
• 1:10:56
Speaker 2: think that we've forgotten what the movies are for for,
• 1:10:59
Speaker 2: and that is innertainment and escape. This up. So if
• 1:11:02
Speaker 2: you want to take that movie at face fucking value
• 1:11:04
Speaker 2: and then walk out of the cinema never think about
• 1:11:07
Speaker 2: that movie again, that is your right. When so many
• 1:11:10
Speaker 2: people who were like, don't worry Darlene had plot holes,
• 1:11:13
Speaker 2: I was like, it was perfect It talked about insults.
• 1:11:17
Speaker 2: I loved it, thank you. Yeah, it was a great thriller.
• 1:11:21
Speaker 2: It had plot holes. And you know what I always
• 1:11:23
Speaker 2: tell people, I go, well, think about whose point of
• 1:11:26
Speaker 2: view the movie is actually from. We were following Florence Pew.
• 1:11:30
Speaker 2: She didn't have all the information and therefore we did
• 1:11:33
Speaker 2: it either. Right. Ah, I fixed it, welcome, But yeah,
• 1:11:39
Speaker 2: just take it as face value, just like what if,
• 1:11:43
Speaker 2: what if God forbid? We enjoyed something.
• 1:11:47
Speaker 1: And I'll add to that that perfection is boring.
• 1:11:51
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, if you were to.
• 1:11:53
Speaker 1: Write a script where people behave the way they should
• 1:11:57
Speaker 1: behave according to societal standards, we would fall asleep halfway
• 1:12:02
Speaker 1: through act one. It would be so boring. Messy is interesting,
• 1:12:06
Speaker 1: cringe is interesting. So like and again, at the end
• 1:12:10
Speaker 1: of the day, it's entertainment. Like I get. There are
• 1:12:12
Speaker 1: movies that have hard hitting topics and that make you,
• 1:12:15
Speaker 1: you know, kind of like unpack things and make you think,
• 1:12:17
Speaker 1: but ultimately it's all just fucking decoration for the inside
• 1:12:20
Speaker 1: of your brain, and you get to choose when you
• 1:12:23
Speaker 1: want to think hard when you don't.
• 1:12:24
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 1:12:25
Speaker 1: Yeah, we could just stop shitting all over everybody. We
• 1:12:28
Speaker 1: could like that's what if I said, like shit metaphor
• 1:12:33
  Speaker 1: what if?
• 1:12:34
Speaker 2: What if? What if God forbid? We just had fun?
• 1:12:39
Speaker 2: And I like argue about that with people who hate
• 1:12:43
Speaker 2: Taylor Swift all the time. I'm like, what if I
• 1:12:46
Speaker 2: could just listen to blank space and it have nothing
• 1:12:49
Speaker 2: to do with you? Right?
• 1:12:51
Speaker 1: Well, you know what, people who should on Taylor Swift
• 1:12:54
Speaker 1: can just go back to listening to their piece of
• 1:12:57
Speaker 1: shit divorced dad rock and leave us alone. Right.
• 1:13:02
Speaker 2: I did get yelled at this weekend because I said
• 1:13:04
Speaker 2: I went and saw Stevie Nicks in Kentucky because she
• 1:13:08
Speaker 2: wasn't touring with some dad rock guy and I could
• 1:13:14
Speaker 2: see her cheaper and she would be headlining so I
• 1:13:17
Speaker 2: would get more Stevie. And my friend went, don't you
• 1:13:20
Speaker 2: mean Billy Joel and the way that like someone turned
• 1:13:24
Speaker 2: on me because I was like, I didn't want to
• 1:13:25
Speaker 2: see Billy Joel and I never did.
• 1:13:29
Speaker 1: And you're like, yeah, that's what I said.
• 1:13:30
  Speaker 2: That's why I said I didn't want to see him.
• 1:13:32
Speaker 2: I only wanted to twirl with Stevie Nicks and be
• 1:13:36
Speaker 2: at my utmost power. What speaking of our utmost power,
• 1:13:40
Speaker 2: what would you like to manifest for the collective energy.
• 1:13:43
Speaker 2: When it comes to rom comms.
• 1:13:45
Speaker 1: M do I go first card? All right, feminism, forgive me.
• 1:13:50
Speaker 1: I'd like to manifest more red flags. I like them,
• 1:13:54
Speaker 1: bring them back. Okay, you know what this is escapism. Yeah,
• 1:13:58
Speaker 1: this this isn't real life. If I wanted to watch
• 1:14:01
Speaker 1: real life relationships, I'd go upstairs. Okay, I would. I
• 1:14:07
Speaker 1: would go through my kids' phones. Yeah all right, yeah,
• 1:14:11
Speaker 1: I bring back the red flags. Okay. I would like
• 1:14:16
Speaker 1: a little bit more toxic masculinity. But also I would
• 1:14:20
Speaker 1: like a little bit more like kick ass feminism. You know,
• 1:14:24
Speaker 1: I want more ten things I hate about you?
• 1:14:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that.
• 1:14:29
Speaker 1: That is so true. I'm with you. Like messiness number
• 1:14:32
Speaker 1: one is fun to witness. That's why reality TV is
• 1:14:35
Speaker 1: so fun. But then also we can't erase red flags
• 1:14:40
Speaker 1: and misogyny and all these things from media and pretend
• 1:14:43
Speaker 1: it doesn't exist, because then we're not training the young
• 1:14:46
Speaker 1: people to look out for it. So it's like one,
• 1:14:49
Speaker 1: it's fun to watch, you know, it's fun to watch
• 1:14:52
Speaker 1: these like misogynistic leads get put in their place because
• 1:14:55
Speaker 1: you know, I mean, misogyny lives in some level inside
• 1:14:59
Speaker 1: all of us, right, So I think it's interesting to see.
• 1:15:02
Speaker 1: So it's like, don't try to erase it and pretend
• 1:15:04
Speaker 1: that these characters are perfect and never had a misogynistic
• 1:15:07
Speaker 1: out in their life, because the younger generation needs to
• 1:15:10
Speaker 1: see it being played out so that they can learn
• 1:15:11
  Speaker 1: from it.
• 1:15:13
Speaker 2: And I want to manifest that I and Rose you
• 1:15:16
Speaker 2: said this earlier. My favorite type of romantic movie is
• 1:15:20
Speaker 2: a movie where I wasn't actually supposed to be paying
• 1:15:23
Speaker 2: attention to the romance at all. So The Mummy, well,
• 1:15:27
Speaker 2: I guess Fall Guy was a romantic comedy and you
• 1:15:29
Speaker 2: were supposed to care that Rank Gosling really missed Emily
• 1:15:33
Speaker 2: Blunt twisters. Let's not forget that. In the nineties, Bill
• 1:15:38
Speaker 2: Paxton was a heart rob. Okay, Tom Hanks was a
• 1:15:42
Speaker 2: heart rob. I love normal guys in movies, normal attainable guys.
• 1:15:47
Speaker 2: And Brendan Fraser and for whatever reason, Glenn Pale as
• 1:15:52
Speaker 2: hot as he is. I'm like, he'd take me to Chili's.
• 1:15:56
  Speaker 2: I know it.
• 1:15:58
Speaker 1: He just makes you uncomfortable, you know what it is about?
• 1:16:00
Speaker 1: Like extremely AI generated like Glenn Powell to me, looks
• 1:16:06
Speaker 1: like what would come out of an AI printer if
• 1:16:08
Speaker 1: you were to type in like attractive white male you know,
• 1:16:13
Speaker 1: it would be like and Glen, I finally put my
• 1:16:16
Speaker 1: finger on it. Glenn Powell looks like if you were
• 1:16:21
Speaker 1: to merge Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling.
• 1:16:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, and therefore he's perfect.
• 1:16:27
Speaker 1: But the thing too, is like, when you are that
• 1:16:30
Speaker 1: perfect looking, you don't need much else going for you.
• 1:16:35
Speaker 1: But he also seems to be genuinely kind and funny.
• 1:16:40
Speaker 2: It's not fair, Glenn, for you to be good looking
• 1:16:42
  Speaker 2: and funny.
• 1:16:43
Speaker 1: He has a dog named Brisketade. Maybe he was ugly
• 1:16:47
Speaker 1: when he was younger. I mean, listen, please send in
• 1:16:52
Speaker 1: childhood pictures of how ugly you were. You had to
• 1:16:54
Speaker 1: be an ugly kid, because listen, no one grows up
• 1:16:56
Speaker 1: with a sense of humor and like Charis if they weren't, like,
• 1:17:02
Speaker 1: you know, like an ugly kid.
• 1:17:04
Speaker 2: Yeah. So I want number one. I really want to
• 1:17:07
Speaker 2: manifest that this sequel to Practical Magic doesn't piss me off.
• 1:17:12
  Speaker 1: What wait, what's it's coming.
• 1:17:14
Speaker 2: It's coming. They've announced it, Okay, so I would like
• 1:17:20
Speaker 2: for them to not piss me off.
• 1:17:22
Speaker 1: I just want to add on to that that if
• 1:17:24
Speaker 1: you do fuck it up, I will burn something down.
• 1:17:28
Speaker 1: Uh huh, it's a surprise on.
• 1:17:29
Speaker 2: What but probably a studio.
• 1:17:32
  Speaker 1: Oh man, it's a surprise.
• 1:17:34
  Speaker 2: It's a surprise. I like because it took me a
• 1:17:38
Speaker 2: really long time to nail down what was my favorite movie.
• 1:17:41
Speaker 2: And then we were doing practical Magic for Still Comfy
• 1:17:45
Speaker 2: our live movie reviews, and I went, it's practical magic,
• 1:17:48
Speaker 2: and it's always been practical magic. Like it's such it's
• 1:17:52
Speaker 2: such a good movie, and the fact that they're going
• 1:17:55
Speaker 2: to try to reboot it, I'm like, I'm mad, I'm sad.
• 1:17:58
Speaker 2: I don't know how to feel about this. I'm definitely
• 1:18:00
Speaker 2: not happy, like, please don't fuck all over my movie,
• 1:18:05
Speaker 2: But I want more rom coms where I can invest
• 1:18:09
Speaker 2: into your relationship, Like I didn't care that Matthew McConaughey's
• 1:18:13
Speaker 2: only flaw and failure to launch was he liked living
• 1:18:17
Speaker 2: with his mom and dad. There was nothing going on
• 1:18:19
Speaker 2: in that movie. So bring me back more movies where like,
• 1:18:23
Speaker 2: I'm invested in the problem that you're solving, in the
• 1:18:26
Speaker 2: shared past that you had hot take. I thought The
• 1:18:31
Speaker 2: Ticket to Paradise was a wonderful movie. I was like,
• 1:18:34
Speaker 2: this is great, it's a great movie, and yeah, I
• 1:18:39
Speaker 2: just want more rom coms where I'm like, you put
• 1:18:43
Speaker 2: your whole When I walked out of Fall Guy, I
• 1:18:46
Speaker 2: was like, they put their whole ass in that movie. Yeah,
• 1:18:48
Speaker 2: they put their entire ass. I don't watch it.
• 1:18:51
Speaker 1: Oh Courtney, you're gonna love it. It really hit and
• 1:18:54
Speaker 1: I was being surprised that it didn't do that well.
• 1:18:57
Speaker 1: But I think it's because the whole idea of a
• 1:18:59
Speaker 1: stuf men is very like male gaze oriented of like,
• 1:19:04
Speaker 1: look at this tough guy doing tough things like a man.
• 1:19:07
Speaker 1: But then the movie is like, look at me, I'm
• 1:19:10
Speaker 1: doing this for a girl. So like it didn't translate.
• 1:19:13
Speaker 2: And I do want more rom coms where it's the
• 1:19:16
Speaker 2: men who are touchy feely. Meanwhile, I have a job,
• 1:19:19
Speaker 2: like I don't know, like I'm distracted from you.
• 1:19:21
  Speaker 1: Yeah, right right, it does. Yeah, it's a it's a
• 1:19:25
Speaker 1: refreshing take. Yeah, it's a refreshing take. I tell my
• 1:19:28
Speaker 1: husband is when I'm working, he's like doing coffee. He's
• 1:19:31
Speaker 1: like coming in hair hugging and kissing me, and I'm like,
• 1:19:33
  Speaker 1: I'm fucking busy.
• 1:19:34
Speaker 2: I have things. I have a whole life outside of you.
• 1:19:39
Speaker 2: But thank you so much for being here again. Come
• 1:19:43
Speaker 2: back any I love speaking to you. I love our
• 1:19:46

• 1:20:17
Speaker 2: tolerated on Instagram. It's because I was a dumb dumb
• 1:20:24
Speaker 2: and I made our Instagram handle and our Gmail difference.
• 1:20:29
Speaker 2: Oh thinking, surely I will keep those two separate in
• 1:20:33
