- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I'd like to welcome everyone back to our podcast Unloaded.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: This is Michael Sehorn.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: And Shannon Morrow.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Well, Shannon, over the last uh few uh weeks and episodes we've talked about a lot, but we keep sometimes we we bring up my my Colorado trip.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I know we've I know we've talked about it here and there and uh some people are interested in that.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So what do you what do you think about today?
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We just maybe tap the water a little bit and it's yours.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: What do you what do you feel about that?
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Then I get uh then I get next next time.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Or uh actually let's let's let you know what you got on your mind today.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Nothing, man.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Nah, nah.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: I I'm glad we're kind of maybe starting to explore taking turns or every other day or something, you know.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Just yeah, actually, hold on, let me let me let me backtrack.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Let me backtrack.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: No, no, I we've we've been building up to your cliff.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: We have been true.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: But we also left a little bit of a cliffhanger last time, correct?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: If I remember right.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I think you were talking about uh I think you were talking about do we possess the ability to be thoughtless?
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that?
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: That that's a fun conversation.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And I think I s and I think I actually said, hey, we'll we'll continue this the next episode.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: So well, I don't you you kind of led in with Colorado though.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, our listeners are hanging tight.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: One more episode, and then you can come fresh next.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: We know, okay, next episode.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I because it that's that's a two-part episode.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: We need the whole It'll be a one-hour.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: It's a one hour, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: So yeah, let's wrap up.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, thanks, man.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, Shannon.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Mics are yours.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Ah, no, no, they're ours.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Here we are.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: This is yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Um I'm gonna tent I'm gonna tend to the IT stuff looking for it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Is that important?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: Pretty much it is.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Pretty much it is.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, but I think we left off on uh you were you you you posed the question that was it possible for us to really not have or be overwhelmed with thoughts?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I I it was some in that in that context.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's I believe it is.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: I mean that's that's quite the question.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Just evaluating the nature of thought.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: What is thought?
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: How do we experience thought?
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Um, how do we experience being without thought?
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: You know, to evaluate anything you you want to look at both sides the absence of often helps define the theme.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Um a and non-a.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: So um with a concept or such as thought, um what like beginning with even just how do you define, right?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: You know, what in in your experience when you have a thought versus in your experience when maybe there's not really thought, an absence of thought.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: I can you uh describe, can you feel or have a sense for each of those different experiences?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: I do, I do.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Um there is an absolutely astonishing book out there um called The Untethered Soul.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Uh if if um you haven't read it, please I would say read it.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: However, I will throw a little caution to the wind out there.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: If if if you're if you're early in your journey in self-help or you're just like trying to be that better person each and every day, I'm I'm gonna be honest that that is a heavy book.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Uh it's really gonna push the bounds of understanding our conscious, understanding the spirit that lives within the human body.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: So it is a little heavy, but I do highly recommend that uh if if you find yourself always constantly dealing with that voice in your head just running all day nonstop, highly suggest reading that book.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: The way this has happened for me is uh in my past years I had that same problem where I just had this voice running in my brain all the time.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Uh whether it was at night when I went to bed or during the day driving in a car, like if if I wasn't actively listening to something, so music or a show or TV, and even then sometimes that that voice starts coming up, right?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: So I'm very familiar with that in the Untethered Soul, they talk about who we are.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Who who am I?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Not not the name that somebody gave me, because I shit I didn't even get to choose my name in life, somebody gave that to me, right?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Uh interestingly enough, there are some cultures that still allow the child to develop for a little while, and the name that's chosen for them represents who they are as a human.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: I find that absolutely fascinating, by the way.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: You kind of earn your name, right?
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Like in the military, you earn if you get a nickname in the military, you probably earn reason, right?
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: And it's never a good one.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So still that out there, right?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: So who am I?
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: And somebody says, Oh, who are you?
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, Michael Seahorn, I'm XYZ, and I live here and I've done this.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: No, that's that's those are just things you've accomplished, right?
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Those are roles you've assumed, those are things that you've done.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: So for me, going through the journey starting in 2020 in uh Terramandel in Colorado, which we'll get to next week, I started learning very quickly that I didn't know myself.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: I didn't know who I was.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: I was just being the person that I think everybody else wanted me to be.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: So after I came away uh from that trip, that one week by myself, when I came away from that trip, I made a conscious decision.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And I think that maybe we can talk about that a little bit too.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: So when you make a conscious decision, that means that you're you're all in from top to your head to the bottom of your feet, through and through.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: You're you are resolute.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Not me, man.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: A lot of my decisions.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: I'm immediately second guessing myself, I'm kind of wobbly going back and forth.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Which is fair.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: That's a hundred percent fair.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: But when you make a a very conscious decision, like deep within yourself, within your soul, if you will, there's a uh tremendous amount of power in that choice.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: And I chose leaving Colorado to start a new journey to create the human being that I wanted to be.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: That sounds even more like a commitment.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: It's a hell of a commitment.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a hell of a commitment.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: Beyond the decision, a very conscious, a very intentional like you put a lot of weight on that.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: And it's I've no I have not strayed from that uh in the last uh going on uh well shit too many years now, huh?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Six six years since Colorado.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, six years going on seven.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: So um in this so in this journey of creating myself, I've I've read the the uh Untethered Soul and some other great books, uh, because I'm I am interested in philosophy and and psychology.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: I found that the true inner self is very deep within us as a human being, and we're kind of the person that's looking out behind the eyes, almost like when we're watching a movie in the movie theater.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Everything on the movie screen is happening, you're seeing it in real time, but you're not participating, you're just watching.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: You're just you're there and you're experiencing it, you're feeling it, you're hearing it, you're seeing it.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Um, and the way they explain that in the untethered soul is that deep within ourselves, the real human, the real spirit, if you will, that person, that thing, if you will, I don't know what the context is of that.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: The spirit, the soul, yeah right.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: That's us, that's the true existence within our our uh our our body here.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: And that's that's the one that is quiet.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: That's the one who is watching this show, if you will, and the damn ego that we all have is that incessant voice in our head, because the ego doesn't care positive, negative, it doesn't matter, it just needs to be fed a lot, you know, and it likes to talk a lot.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: That's that damn voice, right?
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: It's if you ever really listen to to your voice in it, which by the way, I highly recommend doing that once in a while, like actively listening to that thing, you're gonna be like, What the fuck is going on in my brain, man?
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: It's like, oh yeah, you know, that car is you know, look at that car.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And you're like, What?
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: What car?
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, that car, oh yeah, it's a cool car.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: And the next thing you know, you're kind of like going back and forth a little bit in your head, not out loud.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Just in your head.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: And if you ever like when I was going through uh the last six weeks of these issues and that I've been dealing with these when I talk about sitting in meditation and being quiet, uh, you have to understand that that that's the thing I turn off.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: Uh I can't have my ego and that chitter-chatter and my brain going during meditation, and people are gonna call me out on this, which you can.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: I'm okay with it.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: Uh I have practiced a lot in the meditative space, and for me, I can do it with or without meditative music.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Some people really enjoy meditative music, and uh I do too, but I can also sit in the quiet and I can just focus on my breathing.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, I have my Buddha beads with me that um are very symbolic in our our meditative world, and it helps me uh track my breathing and just really focus deep deep on myself.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: And when I do that, I don't have a I don't have a voice in my head.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: I have no thoughts.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: You're focused deeper in on that spirit, on your breath, on being present, exactly.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: So I'm thoughtless, if you will, during those times.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: When I'm overrun with emotional charge, as Shannon uh says sometimes when you're emotionally charged and you feel that you know you just frustrated, it's phenomenally it's just a phenomenal thing to stop for a minute and then all of a sudden you find out man, you're that voice is a thousand miles an hour, man.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: You know, F that person, who do they think they are?
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: You don't deserve that, you're better than them, and I I mean it's just it's just to it's take it takes a life of its own on.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Well yes.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: So what you just described, thank you.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: That's in periods of meditation, you truly do transcend thought.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: You drop, you become very present with your breath.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: You're just like, yeah, that's the state many of us strive to achieve, which takes a lot of practice.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: That's hence the daily practice.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Um it's a very broad scale.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Very broad.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: And so you kind of start moving the other direction.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: And you know, we we need thought.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: We couldn't function really without it, and so um, you know, it's it's useful a lot of times, you know, when we're thinking about how to write that email or to approach that conversation or how to do that job in the best order, or whatever it is.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: Thought serves.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: It's it is often our ally.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: We we need thought.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: It need, you know what I mean.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Um we want it, we we use it regularly.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: And so while at the same time you continue up that scale, and then it can sometimes get a little louder, a little faster, start to maybe, you know, mixing in some emotion, maybe start getting a little unreasonable, maybe start getting a little unrealistic.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, a lot of our thoughts, dare I say, I mean, some would even sometimes describe the majority of our thoughts are problematic, are actually false.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Like this, how many times have we had a thought and it but been present enough to evaluate it to just objectively look at our that thought and say, oh wait, you know, so you're just assessing that wait, that's bullshit, man.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Why where'd that come from?
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Ugh, you know, and we can quickly discard it.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Other times, a slew of thoughts with some mix of emotion come in and really start moving us, and we aren't present enough or have the resource or ability in that moment to challenge it, and it kind of wins.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: It overcomes us even.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: And this is more toward that side of the scale that you're describing when we become overthought, overcome by thought, overcome by emotion.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: So it's a pretty broad scale from one sitting just in the peace of the presence, just focused on external, and and the mind is quiet, it's this lovely experience.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And then all the way up to the other extreme where we're just overcome by our thoughts and emotions and very not present.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Um so it's it's so valuable just to even kind of notice where we're at on the scale.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Like, huh, where am I right now?
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: No, there is, man.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: And you know, it's when when I'm having uh if if if I'm in if I'm having an issue or if I'm going through something where those thoughts are just starting to ramp themselves up.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Um personally, what I have done and I still do today is inside of myself, I just say stop.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: I I use that word because we all know what it means.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: We it's it's a powerful word.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: It is a very powerful word, right?
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: So internally, when I'm going through a uh time where I'm maybe if I'm emotionally in charge for sure and the thoughts are starting to get a little bit too much, I inside of myself I just I almost yell it, if you will, internally.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Just stop.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: And then I take a nice big deep breath, and I mean deep from your gut, deep down, just hold that sucker for a minute, and then just exhale as long as you can, man.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: That's a great that's super I like that strategy, man.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Like stop and then breath, deep breath, deep long breath, because that's gonna that's that'll center your ass as fast as you possibly can imagine.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: And because you're paying attention, you bring it back to the lower into your body, not your mind spinning somewhere.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Uh it sounds silly, but it it I'm telling you all, it works.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: For me, it works because I've been using it and I practice it.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: But uh, you know, my my uh wife was having an issue at night, you know, where she couldn't sleep because her mind's going 100 miles an hour, and in the book they talk about you know, yelling within yourself.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: That's where I got that from.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: It's it's yelling internally to yourself to disconnect that, if you will.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: It it's to bring you back to that present moment of like, hey, enough.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Enough.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Seriously, enough.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm enough.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: I don't need to listen to it anymore.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna listen to it anymore.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Enough's enough.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Center yourself.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: The breath is the important part because we understand in most religious worlds, most meditative worlds, that the breath is real.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: It's real, you can't fake it.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: You you were all capable of it.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: We need it, we do it without even thinking, right?
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: And that's where that power of the breath comes, is because we do it all day without even thinking.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Our bodies just do it most of the time, right?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Occasionally we can even turn our attention toward it and like be aware of it.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: It's only occasionally, but if we can even increase that just a little bit throughout the day, or at least in our practice of just like you just because it's it's such a uh dare I even say sacred thing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: Our breath is it can happen completely outside of our consciousness while still keeping us alive.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: We're still breathing, it's keeping us alive, it's working very well, and we aren't giving it any thought.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: And also when we choose to direct our thoughts at breath, not only can we be aware of it, we can actually control it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: We can actually I'm gonna hold my breath for an entire minute as I dive underwater.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna breathe extra, you know, I'm gonna hyperventilate right now.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: You know, it's we can actually be unconscious of our breath, or very conscious and even control our breath.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: And it's it's man, it's divine that way, man.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: And when we can just return to the breath, honor the breath, observe the breath, see what it's doing, maybe choose to I'm going to just take a deep breath here.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna slow down.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: I'm even just gonna big sigh, right?
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Thank you for that.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: It is so recentering.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's there's so much power on that, and that's why I always kind of go back to meditation for me personally, is because in in it's not, you know, there are mornings when I sit in my meditative um sp space because I have my own meditative space at the house on the property.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, when I go there, it's it's with purpose, it's with intent, it's set up to be for meditation.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: I have things around, I like incense when I meditate because it just it's nice to have that nice cleansing smell in the in the air.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: But you know, there are times where you know I gotta settle in, and sometimes it it takes a couple of times, it takes a few minutes, it's not instantaneous.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Some days I have a real hard time quieting the mind because I'm going through a lot of things, right?
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: But what I always default back to, man, is if you intently focus on your breath, it's very hard for your mind to run off because you're so focused on just right in and out.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: And you do that for a few minutes, and if you uh close your eyes and you're not listening to anything but yourself, man, next thing you know, 15 minutes don't gone by.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: It's an amazing thing.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Uh and yeah, you that is it.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: That is you know you have entered that altered state of meditation because that time warp is created, and you can it's uh it's phenomenal to be still conscious and yet almost unconscious simultaneously.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: You could almost yeah, exactly.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Many people have described what you just described.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: You're you've begun with enough practice and the settings right, you have your space, you intend to this is what you want to create, and this is what you've been practicing, and you're you're starting to get pretty good at it sometimes, and to be able to drop in that present that deeply to where suddenly it's yeah, like no time has passed, almost like, whoa, you're transcendent, really, is the word.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: You really are.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: You know, there's there've been times where I've you know ended my meditation series, and I'm like, holy crap, it's man, it's been half an hour.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, and it's I love that.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: And we emerge from that, oh my god, I just got chills, like different people.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: We're just like, oh, all those problems that were spinning in the beginning, but somehow we were able to choose to focus our attention on our breath and our body, and just and then dude, we pop out half an hour later, and it's just like oh, it's it's a whole different light, dude.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: It's just a whole it's oh, they they don't seem near as vexing.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: They're just oh there's a clarity about them often.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it's I think it it really all goes hand in hand because when you when you come out of a good meditative session where you feel a lot lighter, you feel very present, all of a sudden the things that were bothering you yesterday or last week, or maybe even that morning before your meditative session, those things aren't even in the same universe anymore.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: It's a pretty intently crazy thing to feel because all of a sudden your mind will go back to, oh, well, you know, what about this?
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: And instinctively you're like doesn't even matter.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Right now it's got no power, it's got no charge.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: You're more powerful than your mind.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: There's there's a lot to it.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Uh I have a lot of respect for um for people who chase that trist transcendence as um Shannon was talking about earlier.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: It's I like that phrase chasing uh transcendence.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of people, especially in the in the uh in the Buddhist community this you know it's all about you know um enlightenment and uh there's only one way there I mean not one way but there's a way there and uh it's it's very interesting to see the dedication that people really put into getting to that state because it's it's a really phenomenal place to be um for sure.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: And I I would I believe that um there's moments that you experience that you know maybe even most days just as you begin the day in your special little place in that sacred meditation you know um your practice and if just like you describe you do become thoughtless you do become very present you know that I believe is our just that little moment that little taste of enlightenment or transcendence like there it is right everything just kind of is just is and just it's so peaceful and and then yeah life happens we go about the day but because we've touched into that we generally move through our days in much um improved fashion um but i i I my belief around enlightenment or transcendence or whatever is it's it's not uh something that we can just attain it's not a achievement a goal like earning you know that degree or whatever or like oh I've finally you know attained this thing and now I have it it's I mean we're human thoughts we life happens thoughts happen you know thank goodness this is why we're here this is what we want and to be keep but to navigate through a lot of that pretty well is then keeping it balanced with huh presence you know just um that yeah that divine peace no well said man and it's definitely uh for me it's never been a destination if you will it's it's it's been a journey and it'll continue to be a journey.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: I find a lot of healing in it I find a lot of traction in it allows me to really start my day at ground zero if you will but you're just so valuable man you're at zero man that helps so this is why you're able to do so like just show up as you do as a vice president of your company as you know with with your staff with all the I see man I have some inside information the heavy stuff that you're dealing with on the daily not only at work but just I mean life and it's man I often like wow how and it's like oh that's how because you every day you start to ground zero and if you didn't have that well I remember a little bit before you had that yes you do yeah you do yeah and so your dedication to that your commitment to that which I'm so excited to talk about in our next couple episodes but yeah that has been life changing for you man to that and you just knew you somehow deep down knew man if I commit to this and just each day just my daily practice I need to start out this and it just whew the the amount that that benefits you is almost indescribable.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah it really is and I appreciate that man and it's you know when I also noticed this past couple weeks is I have a I I have you know there's duality to everything right so uh there's a lot of times where I need to be physically active or I just need to go out and work in the yard cut wood and just just doing physical laborious things.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And sometimes my body just doesn't allow that and unfortunately over the last week and a half to two weeks that that's where I've been so I have to be careful because if if I focus on I can't do X, I can't do Y, then that'll start creating some frustration.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: I'm frustrated that I can't do something that I would really like to be doing right now.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: But the other side of that is it allows me to stop and refocus and just allow myself to heal whether it's you know um just hanging out in my office at the at the house or hanging out on the couch or just relaxing in my bed to you know allow my body to heal.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: And it's very tough for me sometimes because I am always doing stuff something whether it's the podcast it's content it's my personal business it's you know the company I work at it's my family it's you know it's so much it's never ending.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Of course so not being able to do the physical stuff even though it frustrates me in the moment it definitely allows me to take a step back and then focus on other things.
- 26:59SPEAKER_01: You know I I do more journaling I do more reading I do I do a lot more of the philosophical and the more intellectual things that maybe don't get enough time sometimes because I'm always busy doing chores and things outside you know I I am of the belief that while we are outside doing chores while we're raking or whatever it is that a lot of the the things we've been reading or journaling about or learning or conversation or whatever a lot of that is maybe even having greater ability to process way deep down in the subconscious you know the yeah we're we're not actively thinking about it all I mean we would if you stopped us in that moment and that you know you we would say oh no that's the furthest thing from my mind perfect oh that's the furthest thing from your mind right now you're processing that's way that's that's just sometimes just putting things on the shelf out of our just like we've forgotten about it.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: We've just it is cool.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna leave that alone put that back there and focus on other things and so much is just the uh what's the best description almost the like just the marination of things or just allowing things to grow allowing things to letting the garden come up letting the little plants push through the soil and eventually get flowers and pollinate it eventually start growing fruit and before you know it fall harvest and like you you know it just is kind of a natural process which you know enough sunlight and water and just the natural state of things and it doesn't take tremendous effort we don't have to grind through mole through everything it just man we forget about it and then a week or two later it like oh resurface we we look at it almost with fresh eyes and then it's it's way more manageable.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: No well said man it is uh you know that's why they say you know go get lost in the woods yeah there's there's a lot of there's so much power in that but unfortunately this week we're gonna we're gonna have to put that on hold um we'll be diving into some of the um the monastery and the the trip that kind of started this whole catalyst if if you will uh on this journey next week we'll start talking about that uh and Shannon is right it'll it'll definitely be uh a double episode it'll be a a full hour for sure um but like always men I've enjoyed our conversation today it's been good um just a reminder everybody nine eight eight's out there so call or text if you need help look out your uh local providers book that one hour appointment man is well worth it um I wish everybody the best and as for this episode this is Mike Seahorn Shannon Morrow and we'll catch you on the next one
