- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:47created for a client that had a obsessive focus on a particular
- 0:55part of their body. And it was a part of the body
- 0:58around going to the toilet. So everything from their bladder
- 1:02all the way to where they go to the toilet from.
- 1:07And I'm keeping it vague here because I want this session to
- 1:12be useful for anyone that just has a selective attention focus.
- 1:18And I'll give you a few examples of that.
- 1:21It is possible for someone to focus on a particular pain, and
- 1:28that pain might not be that noticeable, but they hone in on
- 1:33that pain. Another example is tinnitus.
- 1:36Tinnitus is a ringing in the ears and you get the ringing in
- 1:41the ears that actually comes from ear damage, the tiny little
- 1:44bones and all the drum. Or you can get ringing in the
- 1:48ears just by noticing intently on that kind of very certain,
- 1:55you know, like a low free or a high frequency.
- 1:57It's like a white noise background.
- 1:59But if you focus enough, you can find it.
- 2:01Some people obsessively think about pitching and all of these
- 2:05things. They exist for everyone to some
- 2:07extent, but it's what you pay attention to.
- 2:11This particular client, it was based on a on a sensation
- 2:15because effectively they had a bit of a health scare.
- 2:20There was nothing serious. But because of that.
- 2:22Their brain was keep going back to that particular part of their
- 2:26body. What you're going to hear in
- 2:28this? Is.
- 2:30Two key things. One, there's a metaphor that the
- 2:34sensation was there and now it's gone, it's the past and then
- 2:39recreating it by focusing it on it, not because it needs to be
- 2:43focused on. And then the second thing is
- 2:46almost like a kinesthetic swish pattern.
- 2:50So generally the swish pattern, which is an NLP pattern is a.
- 2:53More of a visual. Element.
- 2:56So it's seeing something quite often in your mind's eye that
- 2:59you would see, and then shrinking that down and
- 3:01replacing with something else and quite often linking that
- 3:04thought to the feeling. So it was visual and then
- 3:08kinesthetic. This client wasn't visualising
- 3:10anything, not even creating an internal picture.
- 3:13Some people do that. They create internal
- 3:16representations of body parts when they're thinking of that
- 3:19area. This client didn't do that, it
- 3:21was just a sensation. So what we needed?
- 3:23Is to switch from the feeling to a different feeling and actually
- 3:29the body part chosen there was the tongue.
- 3:31Mainly because the tongue has got lots of nerves and also the
- 3:35tongue is normally linked to pleasurable things.
- 3:37So if we can go from discomfort or perhaps something.
- 3:43That is linked. To the idea of anxiety.
- 3:46To a. Different body part linked to
- 3:48pleasure is almost training the brain to go from one place to
- 3:52another place in terms of selective attention.
- 3:56So there's a little bit going on here.
- 3:57I think the kind of person that would benefit most from this
- 4:01session. If you have got some kind of
- 4:06let's say sensation around the bladder or around the urethra
- 4:10around let's say pelvic floor muscles, you would might benefit
- 4:16more just because that's what the original client was kind of
- 4:18linked to. But it could be anything else.
- 4:20If you're obsessively thinking about your little toe and don't
- 4:23want to think about that anymore, this session could also
- 4:26be useful. Obviously it was created for an
- 4:30individual client with individual needs.
- 4:31So if the idea of working with me to create something bespoke
- 4:35for you appeals in any way, either click the link in the
- 4:38show notes to schedule that free consultation call, or check out
- 4:41my website whichisadamcox.co.uk. You'll find the link there.
- 4:45You can book that free 30 minute Zoom call and we'll have a chat
- 4:48and you get to just see if it feels like I'm the right person
- 4:51to work with or not. For now, though, find a quiet,
- 4:55comfortable place where you won't be.
- 4:56Disturbed, relax and. Enjoy the session.
- 5:32Take a deep breath in. As you breathe in, breathe in
- 5:41that slow, calm, relaxing breath.
- 5:46And as you exhale, just allow any feelings of tension, any
- 5:53stress, just to feel like it's leaving your body in that
- 6:01outward breath. And when you breathe in again,
- 6:08just decide to breathe in deeper and longer than you normally
- 6:12would. And when it's time to exhale,
- 6:18just exhale for longer, really emptying your lungs so that the
- 6:27next breath you breathe in is deeper than the last.
- 6:34And maybe you can already notice that the deeper you breathe, the
- 6:41more relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 6:47the deeper you breathe. As your body relaxes, your
- 6:54imagination awakens, and I want you to imagine a picturesque
- 7:04forest with a fresh stream, crystal Clearwater winding its
- 7:14way through the forest, and use the power of your imagination to
- 7:22imagine being there, there in the forest.
- 7:28I want you to breathe in that fresh air of nature, maybe
- 7:39seeing sunshine occasionally finding its way through the
- 7:46treetops, perhaps shimmering off some of the surface of the
- 7:52stream. And I want you to get a sense,
- 8:01get a sense as you stare into the stream that's flowing, that
- 8:07everything is as it should be. The stream will flow whether you
- 8:19want it to or not, and the leaves will fall when it's their
- 8:26time to fall. The sun will rise and the sun
- 8:33will set, and there's nothing you need to do.
- 8:41So as you breathe in and breathe out, feel tension melting away.
- 8:49Feel yourself becoming deeper and deeper, relaxed and as you
- 8:59stare, they're into the forest. I want you to to come to a
- 9:06realisation that there is too many things to focus on.
- 9:15It's not possible to focus on everything in the forest.
- 9:22There are thousands of leaves and perhaps insects on the
- 9:29forest floor. The ripple of water in the
- 9:34stream is infinitely changing subtly.
- 9:42You could focus on the temperature, you could focus on
- 9:48anyone of infinite colours that exist there in the forest.
- 9:57And I want you to get a sense of what a shame it would be to have
- 10:06the whole forest to look at and spend too much time looking on a
- 10:13single leaf on a single tree. Because the more that you just
- 10:23focus on that one thing, the more you're missing out on
- 10:29everything else. So imagine staring at that one
- 10:36leaf on that one tree, and then seeing that it does fall.
- 10:45See the leaf gently float not to the ground, but to the surface
- 10:52of a stream. As the leaf hits the surface of
- 10:57the stream, the current takes it away downstream.
- 11:06I want you to get a sand. That something that you've been
- 11:08thinking a lot about doesn't require you to think that much.
- 11:18I want you to get a sense that whatever the original reason was
- 11:22for spending so much time thinking about that thing is
- 11:27like the leaf that is floated down the stream.
- 11:33It's just your past. No need to give it much thought
- 11:38anymore. And if you ever do think of that
- 11:45one leaf floating down the stream in a split second, you
- 11:52can just decide to focus on something else.
- 11:59In the forest. You could think of the beauty of
- 12:05a tree, a clearing. In the woods, maybe there's an
- 12:12animal like a squirrel or a deer.
- 12:17I want you to get a sense There is so many other things to focus
- 12:21on, and the great thing about focusing is all you have to do
- 12:29is notice. The moment you notice one tiny
- 12:34thing, your focus shifts. And where focus goes, energy
- 12:42flows. And perhaps you focused on
- 12:49something that didn't seem right just because you were spending
- 12:53so much time thinking about that thing.
- 12:59And if the focus is on what may not be right, anxiety is
- 13:07thinking about something you don't want to happen.
- 13:12So rather than focusing on an area which leads to thoughts you
- 13:18don't want thinking and emotions you don't want feeling, notice
- 13:23how easy it is to notice something else.
- 13:30I want you to try your hardest and think about that part of
- 13:35your body. Maybe it's a sensation, a
- 13:43location. Try as hard as you can to focus
- 13:48and then notice how quickly you can switch it just by thinking
- 13:55of a memory of perhaps eating something unique.
- 14:02Feel like you're flashing back to a memory of eating a
- 14:06particular type of food with a particular combination of
- 14:11tastes, textures, colours, maybe something unique or surprising,
- 14:21and jump back into that memory and feel like you're
- 14:24experiencing that thing, like it's happening in the moment.
- 14:32Maybe you could imagine what it would be like to experience
- 14:36those a combination of texture, taste, sensations and feelings.
- 14:46And the more you notice, the better you feel.
- 14:52Because the more you notice something of your own choosing,
- 14:55the more you are in control. And the more you're in control,
- 15:03the more that that other sensation just feels like a leaf
- 15:07floating down the stream, far, far away, no longer your present
- 15:13but your past. And as you think about that
- 15:18sensation with that particular food at that particular time,
- 15:24maybe you smile because the original memory was enjoyable.
- 15:34The better you feel thinking about this, the more you're
- 15:36training your brain to be rewarded whenever you think of
- 15:42something that you choose to think, rather than just where
- 15:46your mind has been taking you. I want you to get a sense.
- 15:55Then there is infinite things that you can notice.
- 16:03You can notice the sensation of your tongue and your mouth.
- 16:09You can notice the sensation of your fingertips whenever you
- 16:14choose. You can notice the speed and
- 16:20frequency of your breathing. You can notice how often you
- 16:27blink. If you try hard, you can even
- 16:33notice a pulse or a heartbeat somewhere in your body.
- 16:39And what's interesting is that if you're noticing that, you're
- 16:46not also simultaneously noticing something else.
- 16:52And I want you to treat it like a game.
- 16:56Whenever you start noticing something that isn't useful,
- 17:03treat it like a game of tag or pass the parcel to switch it to
- 17:08just noticing something else. And the quicker you notice
- 17:12something else, the less likely your brain is to take you back
- 17:17to that previous thing that you noticed.
- 17:20And even if it does, you can just do the same thing again,
- 17:25notice something else, and you don't even need to notice what's
- 17:31happening in the present. You can think back to a
- 17:37wonderful memory or think forward to a future exactly as
- 17:43you would want it to be. So now try and think of that
- 17:49previous sensation, and if it doesn't come up then that's
- 17:54great, but if it does, switch immediately to something else.
- 18:02A game that the more you practice the better you get.
- 18:07Meaning the amount of time you think about what you were
- 18:09thinking reduces and reduces and reduces until it's hardly any
- 18:20time at all. Perhaps much more similar to how
- 18:24it was 5 or 6 years ago. Meaning that you could think of
- 18:31that area, but only if you had a very good reason to, and the
- 18:38absence of that good reason. You don't need to think of that
- 18:42area at all, but rather than not thinking, just decide to switch
- 18:51whenever you do. And if your unconscious mind is
- 18:55happy to really good at this new game, let me know by nodding
- 19:00your head. And as you think about that
- 19:12original leaf, there's nowhere to be found.
- 19:17The stream has taken it far, far away.
- 19:24I want you to get a sense, then. Something intense a year and a
- 19:31half ago has now floated far, far away and doesn't need
- 19:38thinking about in the same way again.
- 19:45I want you to get a sense that you're leaving the forest, but
- 19:49just as you leave, you see another leaf floating back on
- 19:52the stream, also being carried away as it occurs to you.
- 20:00All thoughts, all sensations. All emotions are temporary
- 20:08leaves on a stream floating away, and you can choose to
- 20:15focus on leaves falling and floating where you can be
- 20:21intentional and think of the things that make your life
- 20:26better than ever before. That the part that was trying to
- 20:31keep you safe could keep yourself much healthier and
- 20:36better than ever before. But coming up with ways for you
- 20:42to be healthier, more active, to eat better than ever before, and
- 20:48in doing so can actually keep you safe.
- 20:58Consider that a seed planted like a seed planted in a forest
- 21:04that will only turn into a tree months into the future.
- 21:09But now is the time to return to the present.
- 21:12And as you start to return, take a deep breath in through your
- 21:15nose and down through your nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 21:21wiggle your toes. Connect fully into the here and
- 21:23now, and very soon I will count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken
- 21:28you. You will awaken feeling
- 21:31resourceful, empowered, knowing that in an instant, just by
- 21:37remembering or noticing something, you can switch focus
- 21:42instantly, quicker than you could turn a channel.
- 21:47With a remote control and ATV screen, it's possible to shift
- 21:52your focus instantaneously, so take that deep breath in through
- 22:00your nose and out through your nose.
- 22:02Wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes as I now count from
- 22:061:00 to 10:00 to awaken you. Starting to count 123 Waking up
- 22:13456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes, open your eyes.
- 22:18910. Wide awake, Wide awake, wide
