- 0:36Jennifer Johnson: Today we welcome back into the studio Jennifer AlvarezLinguidi, and she is the owner of Purely you Spa, which is a proactive, functional health, organic spa.
- 0:48Jennifer Johnson: That is pretty darn cool.
- 0:49Jennifer Johnson: That's a lot.
- 0:51Jennifer Johnson: She is also, which is this is the part that we're really going to dive into today she is trained in functional medicine and will soon be a functional medicine practitioner, and you're trained in holistic healing and therapies and all of that good stuff.
- 1:09Jennifer Johnson: So we're going to talk about that today because it's so fascinating.
- 1:12Jennifer Johnson: Welcome, thank you.
- 1:13Jennifer Johnson: Happy to be here, wonderful, and I loved our last conversation.
- 1:17Jennifer Johnson: We were talking about stress relief.
- 1:18Jennifer Johnson: Now, going into that, I know some people say there's no such thing as balance.
- 1:25Jennifer Johnson: You can't have balance of work and life, but then other people are like but yes, you can.
- 1:31Jennifer Johnson: Okay, if I say that to you, do you agree that there's balance?
- 1:36Jennifer Johnson: And if so, what does that look like to you?
- 1:39Jennifer Johnson: Or what should it look like to us?
- 1:40Jennifer Johnson: And if so, what does that look like?
- 1:41Jennifer Linguidi: to you, or what should it look like to us?
- 1:42Jennifer Linguidi: Well, I think the biggest thing is having healthy boundaries.
- 1:44Jennifer Linguidi: Healthy boundaries brings us balance and it's recognizing what's your priority, and you have to put yourself as a priority so that you can take care of yourself, so that you can continuously be an asset to your family.
- 2:00Jennifer Linguidi: Self-care Exactly, exactly, yes.
- 2:03Jennifer Linguidi: Focus on yourself, and you can do that by exactly that self-care.
- 2:08Jennifer Linguidi: So, making time to do the things that are important, making time to eat, making time to drink.
- 2:15Jennifer Linguidi: You know to hydrate yourself, making time for the exercise and then also having again.
- 2:21Jennifer Linguidi: I always say having fun is key.
- 2:23Jennifer Linguidi: It's very, very important.
- 2:24Jennifer Linguidi: So at the same time you have to, you know, obviously you have to juggle family and also work you know, so having having the work-life balance is really important.
- 2:37Jennifer Johnson: So you know, you, we go through our daily lives, right, and we're kind of on autopilot a lot of the times and we don't realize it until it's too late, until something gets out of balance, right.
- 2:49Jennifer Johnson: Right, and we go why isn't this working?
- 2:52Jennifer Johnson: I'm feeling stuck or I'm frustrated or I'm grumpy all the time.
- 2:56Jennifer Johnson: Okay, and that's how I mean.
- 2:59Jennifer Johnson: I can realize that something is out of balance, but how do we move that needle to change that?
- 3:06Jennifer Linguidi: Well, I think it's.
- 3:07Jennifer Linguidi: You know, the first thing that needs to be done is recognizing that there's a problem and recognizing where the feeling is coming from, and once you decipher exactly where the problem is, then you can find a solution to the problem.
- 3:26Jennifer Johnson: And ultimately it lies in I've put in too much time at work or I've put in too much time having fun, and it's all skewed Right, because the wheel is going to fall off the wagon somewhere, right?
- 3:39Jennifer Linguidi: I think the big thing is really determining what you want your week to look like, and doing that in a proactive way, so that way, if you only want to be at work till five o'clock, that your alarm goes off at five o'clock or you tell your your you know second line or someone to kick you out how many times have I tried that I'm like just a minute, just one more minute.
- 4:07Jennifer Linguidi: And it's so true, Especially entrepreneurs.
- 4:11Jennifer Linguidi: We're perfectionists.
- 4:12Jennifer Linguidi: We want to complete things that we start.
- 4:14Jennifer Johnson: We're wired differently, it's so hard to stop.
- 4:17Jennifer Linguidi: I know it's so hard to stop something that you're so in deep with, but you want to think about your family that's at home, they're waiting for you, and you want to think about all these that's at home.
- 4:25Jennifer Linguidi: You know they're waiting for you, and you want to think about all these other things that you have to do to to have the cool the whole thing balanced.
- 4:33Jennifer Johnson: So, yeah, and then I eat the guilt, though right, there's always guilt, and I talk about guilt as a mother.
- 4:39Jennifer Johnson: I should be doing this, I should be doing this, and you know, you have to balance that out too, because it's not all as it seems.
- 4:48Jennifer Johnson: Right, I think we can have everything that we want, but again, we have to figure out in what portions.
- 5:00Jennifer Linguidi: Yes, and you just made me think about something and I think the listeners would probably really like this, but it's a book called the Four Agreements.
- 5:12Jennifer Johnson: Oh, I love Don Miguel Ruiz.
- 5:16Jennifer Linguidi: Yes, so much of what we think throughout our day has been predetermined.
- 5:20Jennifer Linguidi: So many people have told us things that we've just kind of believed in, and so we have to deprogram our mind from feeling guilty because we have to work, there's certain things that have to be done, and we are only one person, so we have to not feel that guilty for working.
- 5:44Jennifer Linguidi: We just have to make sure that we are being honest with ourselves as to, okay, what do we want to do?
- 5:50Jennifer Linguidi: If we want to be home by five?
- 5:52Jennifer Linguidi: How do we make it happen Exactly?
- 5:54Jennifer Linguidi: And then that's it, yeah.
- 5:55Jennifer Johnson: So I'm going to switch gears a little bit here.
- 5:57Jennifer Johnson: I know that you are really big into the space of functional medicine.
- 6:03Jennifer Johnson: Just give me a quick blurb.
- 6:05Jennifer Johnson: What is functional medicine?
- 6:06Jennifer Johnson: I've heard you talk about it, but it's like speaking Greek to me.
- 6:10Jennifer Johnson: I have no idea what that is.
- 6:12Jennifer Linguidi: Well, it's basically finding the root cause of diseases and being proactive.
- 6:16Jennifer Linguidi: So functional health is really different than what you would consider regular Western medicine.
- 6:25Jennifer Linguidi: In Western medicine, you have symptoms and then you have prescriptions that mask symptoms.
- 6:32Jennifer Linguidi: So you go to the doctor, you have symptoms, and so they have a certain specific protocol that they have to abide by, and it's basically a reactive approach.
- 6:42Jennifer Linguidi: So the approach that we take with functional health is more of a proactive approach.
- 6:47Jennifer Linguidi: It's okay.
- 6:48Jennifer Linguidi: Let's take a look at your DNA, your genes, let's see how your body is operating.
- 6:53Jennifer Linguidi: Let's see what's going on inside.
- 6:55Jennifer Linguidi: Do you have specific bacteria?
- 6:58Jennifer Linguidi: Do you have parasites?
- 6:59Jennifer Linguidi: Do you have worms?
- 6:59Jennifer Linguidi: What's going on?
- 7:01Jennifer Linguidi: And it's not something that people will just know.
- 7:03Jennifer Linguidi: So we have to really dig deeper and there's different types of tests and lab tests to be able to conquer what's going on in the body.
- 7:13Jennifer Johnson: Is your closet overflowing, or maybe your kids' closets are as well, or maybe you just want to redecorate your house.
- 7:18Jennifer Johnson: If you're wondering what to do with all that stuff that you've accumulated, bring it all to True Fashion Easts, or even ship it to them for free.
- 7:24Jennifer Johnson: They'll sell your unwanted items for you, take away all the hassle by doing all the work, and all you have to do is sit back and collect your money.
- 7:31Jennifer Johnson: You can reach out to them online at truefashionistascom.
- 7:35Jennifer Johnson: Come into the store or check them out on Facebook or Instagram and that's truefashionistascom.
- 7:40Jennifer Johnson: All right, friends, we are back with Jennifer Alvarez-Linquitti and we are talking about functional health and you had just mentioned.
- 7:52Jennifer Johnson: You know there's tests that you can do and all this and that.
- 7:54Jennifer Johnson: Does it just apply to the major diseases like cancer or dementia or all those things, or could it also apply to?
- 8:03Jennifer Johnson: I've got a cold.
- 8:04Jennifer Johnson: What can I do?
- 8:07Jennifer Linguidi: So when people have a cold, there's different things that you can do to boost your immune system, like going in the infrared sauna, making sure that you have vitamin D, enough vitamin D in your system.
- 8:20Jennifer Linguidi: Zinc, magnesium, magnesium is the most important element.
- 8:23Jennifer Linguidi: If you have cramps, taking magnesium glycinate is really really good.
- 8:28Jennifer Linguidi: So we help boost your immune system, strengthen your mitochondria, which is the strongest you know, it helps with you.
- 8:36Jennifer Linguidi: You know, it's a powerhouse of your body and so we strengthen your immune system.
- 8:41Jennifer Linguidi: And then also we can dig deeper with the, with a lab test and it's not only for you know, cancer, it's like stuff like that.
- 8:49Jennifer Linguidi: It's really being proactive.
- 8:51Jennifer Linguidi: It's okay.
- 8:51Jennifer Linguidi: Let's see what is going on in your gut, let's check your stool, you know, and we can know exactly the type of bacteria that you have and know exactly how to conquer it.
- 9:04Jennifer Johnson: So I've heard so much lately about gut biomes.
- 9:06Jennifer Johnson: That all falls into that, doesn't it?
- 9:10Jennifer Linguidi: Absolutely, and you know a lot of the food in this country has genetically modified ingredients and some people you know a lot of the food in this country has genetically modified ingredients and some people you know really are sensitive to that.
- 9:21Jennifer Linguidi: And then you have also a lot of parasites in the foods that people are eating and that's so gross to think about, isn't it?
- 9:28Jennifer Linguidi: And then you know people like sushi.
- 9:30Jennifer Johnson: Oh, no, no, no.
- 9:33Jennifer Linguidi: But you know, there's so much in our foods that we're eating, and so knowing what's in your body so that you can really get that handled, is really key.
- 9:44Jennifer Johnson: So what's a benefit from doing the functional medicine way versus the Western way of okay, you're sick, here's medicine?
- 9:52Jennifer Linguidi: So I do have a great respect for Western medicine.
- 9:56Jennifer Linguidi: I think it's really important to integrate both.
- 10:00Jennifer Linguidi: Honestly, I think Western medicine doctors and practitioners.
- 10:06Jennifer Linguidi: They're so wonderful about taking care of catastrophes, emergency rooms and these types of things where we have to react quick and also standard care.
- 10:20Jennifer Linguidi: It's all very important but then when you add on Eastern medicine and functional health, it's taking again.
- 10:34Jennifer Linguidi: It's a proactive approach.
- 10:35Jennifer Linguidi: So it helps to eliminate the Western medicine drugs that people are given because we're boosting their natural immunities, we're boosting their system to conquer.
- 10:44Jennifer Johnson: So it can help you proactively, but it also can help you if you get sick.
- 10:48Jennifer Johnson: There's things you can do in functional medicine.
- 10:51Jennifer Johnson: Oh, absolutely.
- 10:52Jennifer Linguidi: Yes, yes, and there's so many different protocols in functional medicine as well.
- 10:57Jennifer Linguidi: And also I'm not sure if you've heard of this term, but biohacking Biohacking I've heard of cyber attacks and area, but it is more known in some of the bigger cities but over here in this area people really haven't been talking about it.
- 11:26Jennifer Linguidi: But it's using technology to reverse aging and optimize your life.
- 11:33Jennifer Johnson: Sign me up.
- 11:34Jennifer Johnson: When can I come?
- 11:37Jennifer Linguidi: We have over 20 pieces of technology at Purely you Spa and it is amazing to really help people on a cellular level.
- 11:46Jennifer Linguidi: There's nothing like it, wow yeah.
- 11:49Jennifer Johnson: So give me an example.
- 11:51Jennifer Linguidi: Tell me what.
- 11:52Jennifer Johnson: I can do.
- 11:52Jennifer Linguidi: Besides the cold plunge and the infrared sauna, the infrared sauna is one of my favorites.
- 11:56Jennifer Linguidi: It also has chromotherapy, which is light therapy that targets different organs.
- 12:01Jennifer Johnson: So it's hot.
- 12:03Jennifer Linguidi: Yes, it stimulates the body from the inside out, so it reduces inflammation, helps with pain, weight loss.
- 12:11Jennifer Johnson: So do you go from the cold plunge to the infrared or the infrared to the cold plunge?
- 12:15Jennifer Johnson: It?
- 12:16Jennifer Linguidi: depends on the protocol.
- 12:17Jennifer Linguidi: It depends on what's best for that particular person.
- 12:22Jennifer Linguidi: If we are trying to stimulate the immune system, to boost the immune system yeah, I mean, going back and forth is really fabulous because it really stimulates the immune system yeah, and so those are just two.
- 12:35Jennifer Linguidi: But we also have this other technology that strengthens the immune system.
- 12:37Jennifer Linguidi: Yeah, and so those are just two.
- 12:37Jennifer Linguidi: But we also have this other technology that strengthens the mitochondria.
- 12:40Jennifer Linguidi: We put a cannula around the nose and it's almost like oxygen throughout your body.
- 12:46Jennifer Linguidi: It's amazing.
- 12:47Jennifer Linguidi: But what is it?
- 12:48Jennifer Linguidi: Oh my gosh, I wish I could show you a picture.
- 12:55Jennifer Linguidi: You know you have to try it.
- 12:56Jennifer Linguidi: You just have to try it.
- 12:56Jennifer Linguidi: Yeah, it's basically a technology that converts the distilled water into a form that your body recognizes to again strengthen the cells inside your body, and it helps pave the way for detoxification.
- 13:12Jennifer Linguidi: Yeah, so as we age, our cells just naturally aren't as strong, and so this helps to strengthen the cells inside your body.
- 13:21Jennifer Linguidi: So I love that.
- 13:23Jennifer Linguidi: That's one of my favorite things to do.
- 13:26Jennifer Johnson: I mean, I've, honestly, I may have heard the term but never really understood what that means.
- 13:31Jennifer Johnson: Yeah, so you have machines and tools and you have those machines, I have machines.
- 13:37Jennifer Linguidi: She got those machines.
- 13:37Jennifer Linguidi: I have machines.
- 13:37Jennifer Linguidi: She got the machines.
- 13:38Jennifer Linguidi: I'm the machine lady now, wow, yeah, so besides our staff having over 15 years of experience, we have technology that really sets us apart from our competition.
- 13:48Jennifer Johnson: That is pretty amazing.
- 13:50Jennifer Johnson: I think so too.
- 13:51Jennifer Johnson: I need to come try that.
- 13:52Jennifer Johnson: You have to.
- 13:53Jennifer Johnson: It's amazing.
- 13:53Jennifer Johnson: I've been dealing with this cold forever and maybe I can, hot or cold, plunge infrared out of me.
- 14:01Jennifer Johnson: Oh yes, we can do it for sure.
- 14:04Jennifer Johnson: Oh my gosh, that is so, so cool.
- 14:06Jennifer Johnson: Well, I have loved having you on and learning about functional medicine and I am definitely going to try it and I urge our listeners to try it, and it just sounds like it could be amazing.
- 14:21Jennifer Linguidi: Thank you.
- 14:21Jennifer Linguidi: Thank you so much, and if anyone is interested in learning more, we do a 15-minute complimentary consultation and I'd be happy to help them, and they can go to purelyuspacom and they can email me at jen at purelyuspacom Awesome.
