  of the murder of Spencer and Monica Tepe.

  This is the Columbus, OH, couple that he failed to show up for
• 1:08
  work. And within an hour, his
• 1:09
  coworkers were so concerned because they couldn't reach him,
• 1:12
  they couldn't reach Monique, that they actually called 911
• 1:16
  multiple times. They drove from the office.
• 1:20
  He was commuting an hour to get to work.
• 1:22
  So coworkers went, they rushed to their house, and yeah, they
• 1:29
  found what appeared to be a body inside the home.
• 1:34
  A police later confirmed that both Spencer Tepi and Monica
• 1:39
  Tepi died by gunshot wound. Now listen, in our coverage of
• 1:45
  the case of the murder of Robin Michelle Reiner, the Reiner's
• 1:50
  children have asked us to temper our our coverage, our
• 1:55
  speculation with humanity and with compassion.

  I think that's something that we're going to want to do

  everywhere. I think it's something that we
• 2:03
  have been doing. But this is a family that is
• 2:07
  broken. They leave behind two children
• 2:10
  who are physically unharmed. But we're in the house and found
• 2:16
  by first responders when when their parents were brutally and
• 2:22
  senselessly murdered. Police did release a video from
• 2:25
  a nest camera from an alleyway close by around the time that
• 2:30
  they believe that the Tepes were murdered, which was the early
• 2:34
  morning hours. And they're asking anybody with
• 2:39
  with any information if you recognize this person.

  If you recognize, I think it's a man, his or her gait, I think
• 2:46
  it's him, the way that he walks with his hands in his pockets,
• 2:51
  his head down, his right toe slightly canted in.

  Call. Call the Columbus police and

  report that tip. Now.

  Don't. I would say if you are on the

  fence about calling, whether or not to call, you should probably

  green earth, the the reverberations of the death of

  my grandfather in 1956 continue to roll through our lives,

  especially the life of of my dad and his brothers and sisters.

  But even us, us grandkids have felt the the ripples of that

  stone dropped into a pond. So, and I'm sure that many of

  you have have experienced in your family loss as well, maybe
• 7:40
  even tremendously violent loss like this.

  So I think it's appropriate that we support this family.

  smile lit up every room. She was warm with a strength

  Spencer was the soul of every gathering, Grand in personality

  yet calm, steady and kind. Together, they were truly
• 8:42
  remarkable. Inside and out.

  They were a solid pair with a bright future.

  They were the proud, proud parents of two beautiful
• 8:50
  children and every day they showed up with unwavering love
• 8:53
  and devotion to their family. The abrupt lost loss of Spencer

  and Monique has changed daily life in ways that are still

  unfolding. This fund exists to help provide

  stability and care for their children and the immediate

  family members who are supporting them during this

  time. The outpouring of love is meant

  2025 at their family home. Spencer was born on December

  9th, 1988 in Cincinnati, OH to Tim and Yvonne Hildebrand Tepi.

  Spencer received his undergraduate degree and his
• 13:27
  Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University.
• 13:31
  Spencer was passionate about dentistry.
• 13:33
  Spencer also loved competing at almost anything, but his primary
• 13:36
  sports were soccer and golf. He enjoyed entertaining family
• 13:41
  and friends. He loved speaking Spanish, but
• 13:43
  most of all he focused on taking care of his family.
• 13:46
  Monique was born October 14th October baby in 1986 in Chicago,
• 13:51
  IL to Ignatius and Narita Mendez Sabatursky.
• 13:55
  At the age of 1 she moved to Worthington, OH where she was
• 13:58
  raised. Monique grew up playing soccer,
• 14:00
  was a runner, loved horses, an avid book reader.
• 14:04
  Monique loved children and worked at a daycare while
• 14:06
  attending The Ohio State University to obtain her Masters
• 14:09
  in Early Childhood Education. Monique was a stay at home mom
• 14:13
  known for her bright smile, yeah, infectious laugh, caring
• 14:17
  heart and bubbly personality. Spencer and Monique met online
• 14:21
  and quickly grew their relationship into a solid
• 14:23
  foundation of love and respect with a side of goofiness.
• 14:26
  And I do love the pictures from their wedding where they've just
• 14:30
  kind of got a cool 70s style, don't they?
• 14:32
  It's just a cool style, just just the right amount of
• 14:36
  goofiness. They were married on December
• 14:40
  13th, 2020 in a private family ceremony.

  Of course, that would have been during COVID.

  And so the pictures that we see of their wedding ceremony were

  at their home. That's that's delightful.

  They had two precious children together who were loved dearly.

  Spencer and Monique were the life of the party, holding many
• 14:57
  family and friend gatherings. They were generous with kind
• 14:59
  hearts. Spencer and Monique will be

  deeply missed by their family, friends and all who knew them.

  Spencer is survived by his two children.

  answers tonight, we're learning more about the couple's lives,

  devoted parents, a loving partnership, and positive

  influences in their community. Aaron Simonex spoke with Big

  Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Ohio about Spencer's

  legacy. Beyond the tragic headlines,

  Spencer and Monique Tepe were a devoted couple, committed

  parents and positive forces in central Ohio.

  Spencer was a role model to many, and to one young man in

  particular through his work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of

  Central Ohio. People have siblings and family

  at home that's worth them, but sometimes they need someone

  else, someone experience, and they're there for you when you
• 20:23
  need them. The mentorship program connects

  children facing adversity with mentors to ignite their

  My favorite thing about being a big has been how I've become

  engineer, his mom, Norma, says it was an instant match.

  It's like encouraging him that in a way, in a positive way,

  that he he knew he could do it. A mentor turned lifelong friend,

  Monique eventually came into Spencer's life.

  And I know that you even mentioned the two of them went
• 21:13
  to your son's high school graduation party and Spencer was
• 21:17
  excited to introduce her to your family.

  It really was like you guys were part of the family.

  We were part of the family. Jessica Rodriguez was Spencer
• 21:26
  and Hans match support specialist, working hand in hand
• 21:29
  with them since Hans was in first grade.

  I get asked a lot for success stories and I think that this is
• 21:35
  a match that is one of the best stories out there because they
• 21:41
  went from five years old, first grade all the way through high
• 21:45
  school and college. When you're going through like
• 21:48
  hard times or when you're struggling with something,
• 21:52
  they're also there so they can be a friend and supporter and a
• 21:55
  mentor all at the same time. I'm really proud of them and I'm
• 21:59
  excited to see what his future holds for.

  To the person he was, because a lot of mentors could find an
• 22:07
  excuse to close the match. You know, getting married,
• 22:11
  getting a job, having a child. But Spencer was different.
• 22:16
  Spencer and Monique's deaths continue to make national
• 22:19
  headlines, but for the Hernandez family, the impact is profound.
• 22:24
  Knowing them, seeing them at their house, how friendly they
• 22:29
  are, how it's hard to believe that there will be a person that
• 22:36
  will not like them. The Tempe Circle tells us they

  don't want them to be defined by their deaths, instead
• 22:43
  remembering the kind hearted people they were with
• 22:46
  personalities that are rare to find in this world.

  Warm, giving, strong and loving. And what is your message to the

  person who would have such a violent reaction to this this

  house, but it was not Monique's voice, according to police.

  And the other one was a strange one a couple of months before

  where somebody was trying to get into a house in that

  neighborhood. I am not sure that they're the

  I didn't make the comparison. But in your opinion, you're

  telling me they're the they're the same woman?

  And I mean, is it possible that this is a mistaken identity kind

  of a thing or a mistaken house kind of a thing?

  Could somebody who was either this person or someone else

  remember, this isn't a suspect. This is a person of interest.

  This person was seen on a Nest camera in the area at about the
• 25:38
  time that the Tepes were murdered, right?

  So could this person or somebody else have just gone to the wrong

  house? You know, and I don't know the I

  don't know the situation. And again, we want to temper our

  comments with compassion, with humanity.

  And So what I would say is like, I, I always hope that my loved

  ones, the people that I know, the people that I care about, if

  any, well, anybody really, if, if something like this were to

  happen in their lives, I, I would hope that they would fight

  back, Fight, fight, fight. Having said that, if this

  happened at 2:00 in the morning at my house, I, I probably

  wouldn't be awake, right? I, there are deep sleepers and

  they're, they're people that don't sleep so deeply.

  I'm one of those deep sleepers. So, you know, I, I'm, I, I just

  investigation. Chief Bryant says the complexity

  comes from both the evidence gathering process and the need

  to verify it before drawing conclusions, especially under

  intense public scrutiny. It puts a lot of stress on us.

  But I just want to reiterate, while this case is getting a lot
• 33:47
  of national attention, we look at all of our homicides in that
• 33:53
  manner. They all bring us stress because
• 33:56
  someone lost their lives. Police have narrowed the likely
• 33:59
  time frame of the murders to early Tuesday morning, December
• 34:02
  30th. That clarity LED investigators
• 34:05
  to release surveillance video showing a person of interest
• 34:09
  walking through an alley near the Tempe home during those
• 34:13
  hours. A homicide investigation,
• 34:15
  whether it's this one or another one, is it?
• 34:17
  It's a really delicate balancing act between community safety and
• 34:21
  investigative integrity. Assistant Chief Bodkar says the
• 34:25
  decision to release the video came after detectives ensured it
• 34:28
  would not compromise the investigation.
• 34:31
  This case has garnered plenty of talk online.
• 34:34
  Bodkar says they're tracking the chatter.
• 34:36
  But social media talk does not equal facts.
• 34:40
  There are a lot of Internet investigators, much of what you
• 34:46
  see on the Internet, first of all, yes, we are monitoring
• 34:48
  that. And much of what you read is
• 34:50
  just now factual. We are not.
• 34:55
  We're not going to jump in on those chats and add our comments
• 35:00
  to those passes. Investigators are racing to
• 35:04
  collect more surveillance footage, something police say
• 35:07
  could be critical to solving. This so yeah, they they found
• 35:11
  one Nest camera, but that doesn't mean that's the only
• 35:14
  Nest camera they saw. In fact, this looks like a view
• 35:16
  of the alleyway behind. It's like their garage is in the
• 35:20
  alley behind. This looks like the the alleyway
• 35:27
  where they saw that guy walking. Ace I know it's frustrating for
• 35:31
  people. I know they want answers.

  As soon as we're able to provide more information, we will
• 35:35
  absolutely be coming back to talk about that, to give updates
• 35:39
  and to be able to give more information.

  But right now it's premature for us to be able to say what the
• 35:45
  motive is or we don't have a, we don't have a suspect identified
• 35:48
  at this point. Police have not said why the

  Tempe's may have been targeted. Bryant says that question

  remains open as investigators continue reviewing evidence.

  This case is definitely disturbing.

  It's definitely something that we want to make sure that we

  pour a lot of energy into to try to address and solve.

  We want to bring some justice to the family.

  And Chief Ryan says much of this case could hinge on one detail,

  something a neighbor or possibly a witness may not even realize
• 36:17
  is important. For now, police say patience is
• 36:20
  key as they work to bring answers to the victim's family

  and the community. That kind of feels like they
• 36:26
  don't have the kind of forensic evidence that I'm hoping for.

  But also, I mean, we can't just assume that first of all, it
• 36:36
  takes forever to get that stuff back from, from the lab, right,
• 36:41
  even on a rush. So they may not know what
• 36:44
  forensic evidence they have yet, even though it has been what, 10
• 36:49
  days? But they are it, it looks like
• 36:54
  they're looking for other evidence, other digital
• 36:58
  evidence. And I bet as soon as they zero

  in on somebody, that is when the digital forensics are going to

  open up. They're going to be doing search

  warrants on, on cell towers and on, on ISPs and on, on SAS

  providers and I, I think it will open wide up.
