- 0:05Speaker 1: Appogiae production.
- 0:10Speaker 2: We begin today by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the
- 0:14Speaker 2: land on which we gather today and pay our respects
- 0:16Speaker 2: to their elders past and present. We extend that respect
- 0:20Speaker 2: to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people's here today. Welcome
- 0:26Speaker 2: to the Grow and Glow Podcast. I'm Ashy, I'm Kiara.
- 0:29Speaker 2: This is a podcast where we learn, laugh, and level
- 0:31Speaker 2: up together.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Let's go deep, let the.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Emotions flow, combine the lessons to grow and glow. Nothing
- 0:37Speaker 1: is off the table with Grow and Glow, and we're
- 0:39Speaker 1: here to be your expander. I like I welcome back.
- 0:46Speaker 1: We're worrying red and we're about to talk about periods.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Oh.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I love that we were well aligned animal one period.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Too much information.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Never So today I was just going to chat a
- 0:57Speaker 2: little bit about how my periods have been, because this
- 1:00Speaker 2: is not like I've spoken openly about how bad they
- 1:03Speaker 2: have been in the past.
- 1:04Speaker 3: And I'll touch all of that as well, so you.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Guys can get a good understanding of how they have changed.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So it's about periods, but also nervous system regulation and
- 1:12Speaker 2: just some tools and tips and tricks that I've newly
- 1:15Speaker 2: learned that are really helping me out with this as well.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I love how you're like, I'm going to give you
- 1:19Speaker 1: an update in my period, Because if you've never listened
- 1:21Speaker 1: to Grow and Glow, you'd be like, why the fuck
- 1:23Speaker 1: is she gonna tell me how heavy her flow is.
- 1:25Speaker 3: It's not like that, Like I'm getting into it.
- 1:28Speaker 1: There's so much valuable information and things that you can
- 1:32Speaker 1: implement that will dramatically.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Help your cycle.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Definitely, Like we're talking every symptom that you can get,
- 1:38Speaker 1: from bloating to headaches to fatigue to oh so much
- 1:43Speaker 1: like business calls. Yeah, the severity of your period. Like, yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 1: the stuff that you were going to share that you've
- 1:49Speaker 1: changed is literally life changing for women, so life changing
- 1:53Speaker 1: for me. Yeah, she's not just going to tell us
- 1:54Speaker 1: how heavy her flow is or how light it's seen,
- 1:57Speaker 1: how much chocolate she's been eating.
- 1:58Speaker 4: There's actually so much in this.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Okay, So.
- 2:03Speaker 2: My share of the Week this week is a book
- 2:06Speaker 2: that I'm halfway through reading, and I also got one
- 2:08Speaker 2: for Ashy. It's called The Vagus Nerve Reset. And this
- 2:13Speaker 2: is a lot of what I'll be chatting about in
- 2:14Speaker 2: today's episode, and a lot of the knowledge and things
- 2:17Speaker 2: that I've learned about certain things I've gotten out of
- 2:18Speaker 2: this book as well, but just such an incredible book
- 2:21Speaker 2: all about regulating and resetting your nervous system. I'm not
- 2:24Speaker 2: finished yet, but I'm really excited to get into it
- 2:27Speaker 2: because it gives you a bunch more like tools and
- 2:28Speaker 2: stuff as you get deeper.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah, more things that you can add in that helps. Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 1: there's just always so much to learn.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Hey, always, yeah, I know.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So called you think you're like, yes, I've nailed this,
- 2:39Speaker 1: like add it on this and you've got it. But
- 2:41Speaker 1: then you're reading like, wow, I can do this and
- 2:42Speaker 1: that's going to help that more I know.
- 2:44Speaker 2: And even you think you know a little bit about
- 2:46Speaker 2: something and then you start to read like a different
- 2:48Speaker 2: book even and you're like, oh wow, there's still like
- 2:50Speaker 2: all these like this side of that is crazy.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I feel like health.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I never ever think I've learned too much or learned
- 2:57Speaker 1: at all. And also there's different perspectives and opinions on
- 3:00Speaker 1: things too, Like I feel like you could find an
- 3:02Speaker 1: article I don't know a certain stufflem or whatever. One
- 3:05Speaker 1: will say it's really good for this, and the other
- 3:07Speaker 1: person say, no, it's actually really bad for this.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So true, like.
- 3:10Speaker 1: There's just so much to learn about with health. I'm
- 3:12Speaker 1: really excited to read that book. So I've actually got
- 3:15Speaker 1: two because a book reminded me. I read one when
- 3:17Speaker 1: we were at eating retreat called hook Line and Sinker
- 3:19Speaker 1: by Tessa Bailey.
- 3:20Speaker 4: I think it was Tessa Bailey, and.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's just easy to read romance, but I just really
- 3:24Speaker 1: love the characters, the.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Spicy things are really good and.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm not a fast reader, but I read this quite fast.
- 3:30Speaker 1: One because we had a lot of time too, because
- 3:32Speaker 1: I was.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Just so hooked.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Three because I wasn't distracted by my phonelin and sincer
- 3:37Speaker 1: and Sincer hooked you in. Yeah. The second is just
- 3:40Speaker 1: a post that I saw on an Instagram page emotionally
- 3:43Speaker 1: dot perfect, and it says the biggest lesson I learned
- 3:46Speaker 1: this year is to not force anything. Don't force conversations, friendships, relationships,
- 3:52Speaker 1: attention or love. Anything forced is just not worth fighting for.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Whatever flows, flows, what crashes, crashes, it is what it is.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I love that, Amen, girlfriends.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Isn't that so true and just so?
- 4:05Speaker 1: And I feel to everything that I've been going through, like,
- 4:07Speaker 1: just stop forcing things, just let them flow and whatever's
- 4:10Speaker 1: meant for you will come for you.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I truly do believe that even.
- 4:13Speaker 1: If someone or something isn't working out right now, it
- 4:16Speaker 1: might come back later when the time's right.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Just let it flow in and out. How it is. Oh,
- 4:20Speaker 4: I love that I have money, even like they.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Go of the attachment to money. I know that's really
- 4:23Speaker 1: hard in this day and age, things are tough for
- 4:25Speaker 1: a lot of people. But I just like to think
- 4:27Speaker 1: of money like that. I think comes and goes and
- 4:29Speaker 1: we will always be okay.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Change of energy, Yeah it really is.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's mine. But let's get into the episode.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Let's go back to Kiara a year ago. Kiara a
- 4:39Speaker 2: year ago was suffering with extremely heavy periods, to the
- 4:44Speaker 2: point where for two to three days out of the month,
- 4:46Speaker 2: I felt like I couldn't even leave the house. I
- 4:48Speaker 2: would put a tampon in. If you are weird about
- 4:51Speaker 2: blood and stuff, this is not.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Your episode tap on through.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I would put a.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Tamp on in and I literally go for a twenty
- 4:57Speaker 2: minute walk, come home, and not only would I had
- 5:01Speaker 2: completely bled through, it went all through my active where
- 5:05Speaker 2: it was literally like running down my leg I had
- 5:07Speaker 2: to like bolt home once I noticed I was starting
- 5:08Speaker 2: to leak not only was my period like super heavy,
- 5:13Speaker 2: it was lasting like eleven twelve days, and that was
- 5:16Speaker 2: just kind of my norm and.
- 5:18Speaker 5: For a long time, for a period, a really long.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Time, not normal.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And then on top of that, the emotions on my period,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I was super emotional. I was really easily triggered, I
- 5:32Speaker 2: was not well regulated whatsoever, and everything was just so highlighted.
- 5:36Speaker 3: So it's like all of.
- 5:37Speaker 2: My symptoms were elevated. It wasn't just my bleeding or
- 5:41Speaker 2: just as well, like the pain that I felt or
- 5:43Speaker 2: the longevity of it, but also like emotionally, I felt
- 5:46Speaker 2: like I really was hugely being affected by that in
- 5:50Speaker 2: my cycle as well. So I had a fair bit
- 5:53Speaker 2: going on at the time. So I decided to kind
- 5:55Speaker 2: of push it aside and not deal with it and
- 5:57Speaker 2: just kind of try to do what I could to manage.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And I ended up going and seeing a doctor and
- 6:01Speaker 2: getting on some medication, which was great for the interim
- 6:05Speaker 2: and the period of life that I was in where
- 6:07Speaker 2: I needed to kind of get things done and push
- 6:10Speaker 2: through life. But the last few months I really wanted
- 6:14Speaker 2: to not be on the medication long term. I knew
- 6:17Speaker 2: that was never my long term game to stay on it. Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 2: the last month, probably two months, but particularly month, I've
- 6:23Speaker 2: really really gone internal, listened to my body, and I
- 6:28Speaker 2: was actually shook to my core at the results.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Like I remember talking to her at the end of
- 6:33Speaker 3: my period and I was like, oh, was that it.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Wow.
- 6:35Speaker 2: It's like all of my symptoms were so minimized. And
- 6:39Speaker 2: there's been a lot that I've changed, so it's not
- 6:42Speaker 2: just like one thing here or two things here.
- 6:44Speaker 5: And consistently right, It's consistent.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And the really amazing thing is by me doing this,
- 6:51Speaker 2: I have changed. It's so drastically and it's been amazing.
- 6:55Speaker 2: But the downfall is I don't really know what necessarily
- 6:58Speaker 2: has been making the biggest impact because there's been so
- 7:01Speaker 2: many things.
- 7:02Speaker 3: That I've incorporated at once.
- 7:03Speaker 4: It's got to be all of it, though I think
- 7:05Speaker 4: all of.
- 7:05Speaker 3: It plays a part for sure.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And I also do just want to say, like, this
- 7:09Speaker 2: is just my personal experience, you know, I'm not saying
- 7:12Speaker 2: that this is necessarily going to work for you or
- 7:14Speaker 2: heal you or make things easier. But I also want
- 7:18Speaker 2: to be able to share this because this has been
- 7:20Speaker 2: life changing for.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Me, and there's no harm in trying some of these
- 7:23Speaker 1: because they're all natural. They are all things we can
- 7:25Speaker 1: incorporate every single day. Like you'll listen them off in
- 7:27Speaker 1: a second, but they're all things that we can take
- 7:29Speaker 1: on board to try. Why would you not If you're
- 7:31Speaker 1: suffering and there's a holistic, natural way to help yourself,
- 7:34Speaker 1: why would you not try it?
- 7:36Speaker 4: So cool? Can I ask? Are you off your medication now?
- 7:38Speaker 3: Not yet?
- 7:39Speaker 4: But yet? Okay?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's an extent step.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Okay.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Also, there was about two times that I almost called
- 7:45Speaker 2: an ambulance just to let you know how severe the
- 7:47Speaker 2: bleeding was.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Because I was.
- 7:48Speaker 2: At home with my daughter on her orange was in
- 7:51Speaker 2: school holidays, and my husband wasn't at home, he was
- 7:54Speaker 2: out at work, and I was bleeding so heavily that
- 7:56Speaker 2: I kept feeling like I want to pass out, and
- 7:58Speaker 2: I was worried because my daughter was obviously at home,
- 8:00Speaker 2: so having a young child at home, that's why I
- 8:02Speaker 2: went on medication when it was that bad, and I
- 8:04Speaker 2: was like, I need to be able to show up
- 8:06Speaker 2: for her, and I'll be passed out on a couch
- 8:08Speaker 2: when I'm supposed to be caring for her. And you
- 8:10Speaker 2: don't know exactly when your period's going to come, what
- 8:11Speaker 2: day is going to be bad. It just was not
- 8:13Speaker 2: away for me to continue to live my life, and it.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Was scary, of course.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah, So I am still on my medication and I
- 8:22Speaker 2: did have two doctor's appointments booked in to get an
- 8:25Speaker 2: ultrasound and start working on things, but I've canceled all
- 8:28Speaker 2: those appointments because I want to keep doing this for
- 8:30Speaker 2: another few months and see what my body can do
- 8:32Speaker 2: naturally on its own. So first thing, which we're going
- 8:36Speaker 2: to do a whole episode touching on anyway, is I
- 8:39Speaker 2: went on a detox from alcohol, and I want a
- 8:42Speaker 2: dtox from caffeine. So that is absolutely zero coffee and
- 8:46Speaker 2: zero alcohol.
- 8:47Speaker 3: And I know that sounds scary, but you did it,
- 8:50Speaker 3: but I did it.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And there's also heaps of tips and tricks that I'll
- 8:55Speaker 2: tell you guys when we go into the episode of
- 8:57Speaker 2: abstaining from alcohol and caffeine.
- 8:59Speaker 3: When we do that one.
- 9:00Speaker 2: If that's one thing you're really wanting to implement, go
- 9:02Speaker 2: to that episode because it'll be so much that we'll
- 9:04Speaker 2: touch on over there. But yeah, I did thirty days
- 9:07Speaker 2: abstaining from both of them, so I feel like definitely
- 9:10Speaker 2: that would have played a role in my information. And
- 9:13Speaker 2: after the first two weeks, I promise you it gets easier.
- 9:16Speaker 3: And now it's at the end. I'm like, what was
- 9:18Speaker 3: I doing? Wow, I'm so proud of you.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Like I just I've known you for how many years now,
- 9:24Speaker 1: probably seven years or something, so you've never not had
- 9:26Speaker 1: him warning coffee like it's just your.
- 9:28Speaker 5: Thing, and you've always enjoyed a wine. It's just so cool.
- 9:33Speaker 5: I'm so proud of you. Incredible.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Not many people, you know, most people drink coffee and alcohol.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I don't know many people that could give it up.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Like my mum and Megsie have done not coffee, they've
- 9:44Speaker 1: done alcohol though, But you did two really hard, like
- 9:47Speaker 1: pretty addictive things all in the same thirty days.
- 9:50Speaker 4: That's so cool.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Leave I helped me with that a little bit too,
- 9:53Speaker 2: because we had that podcast episode. I was already reading
- 9:55Speaker 2: Dopamine Nation and thinking I wanted to do the thirty
- 9:58Speaker 2: Days no Alcohol, and then when he spoke about the
- 10:00Speaker 2: effects of caffeine and anxiety, I was like, well, if
- 10:03Speaker 2: I'm someone who does I feel like my nervous system
- 10:06Speaker 2: is regularly in vital flight and I'm struggling to be
- 10:08Speaker 2: in rest and digest.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Why in the world would I feed my body caffeine.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Like when he said that, and it was just such
- 10:14Speaker 2: a simple thing to take out of your day to
- 10:16Speaker 2: day routine. I was like, he's so right, and yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 2: just decaf all the way. If you feel like you
- 10:21Speaker 2: still want to have that coffee, feel go get a
- 10:23Speaker 2: takeaway decaf a couple.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Times a week.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Trucks So good, so good. The next thing that I
- 10:29Speaker 3: did actually was a Levi tip too. Thanks Levi.
- 10:32Speaker 2: These are all the great people get on the podcast guards,
- 10:34Speaker 2: I said to Ash, you, like, every time we get
- 10:35Speaker 2: someone on here. Yeah, I take all the information they
- 10:37Speaker 2: give us, I take it home and I use it.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Of course, so supplements, so I was already doing magnesium
- 10:44Speaker 2: and zinc, but what leve I had recommended was vitamin
- 10:48Speaker 2: B twelve and then I also incorporated vitamin D as well.
- 10:52Speaker 2: So I've been taking all those supplements now every single day.
- 10:55Speaker 2: But vitamin B six and B twelve are both really
- 10:58Speaker 2: great for nervous system regulation as well. So a lot
- 11:01Speaker 2: of these things that I am talking about, you will
- 11:05Speaker 2: notice has had a lot to do with slowing my
- 11:07Speaker 2: nervous system down because it's so heavily.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Just actually can sporting your nervous system and supporting your body.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yes, giving my body a chance to rest a bit
- 11:16Speaker 2: more and feel yet more supported. Another thing is just
- 11:21Speaker 2: choosing to have more moments in the day to just
- 11:24Speaker 2: be and be with yourself and be slow rather than
- 11:28Speaker 2: constantly doing things and checking off a list. I feel
- 11:31Speaker 2: like we get in our heads sometimes with thinking, oh,
- 11:34Speaker 2: I can't just sit around all day. You don't have
- 11:36Speaker 2: to just sit around all day, but you should take
- 11:39Speaker 2: ten minutes here and ten minutes.
- 11:40Speaker 3: There, or longer if you can, longer, if you can.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Definitely, I have upped my water intake. Oh okay, heavily
- 11:47Speaker 2: up to my.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Water intake are now so beforehand, I feel like I
- 11:51Speaker 1: was probably having like around two leaders a day.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Now I'm more like three, especially on my period because
- 11:58Speaker 2: it helps flush everything out, so on my period up
- 12:01Speaker 2: to that drastically and just being really conscious of being like, hmm,
- 12:05Speaker 2: did I last have some water, and trying to drink more.
- 12:08Speaker 4: So good.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Cut back on blogging, oh my gosh, which feels so nice.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Yeah, if you are not a logger or you've never edited, like,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you don't understand how much time goes into it. I do,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and hence why I'm not consistent on YouTube so I've
- 12:19Speaker 1: watched you for years, like like how do you do it?
- 12:22Speaker 1: And it's incredible that you've done it for so long.
- 12:24Speaker 1: But I can imagine how much light that would feel.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Even the technical difficulties and stuff like you can just
- 12:29Speaker 2: get really frustrating. So yeah, cut back on things where
- 12:33Speaker 2: I can, so just change around my routine slightly. I
- 12:37Speaker 2: have been doing the sauna five days a week minimum.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Love this. How good's a sauna?
- 12:42Speaker 3: Sauna is so good?
- 12:43Speaker 2: And if you do not have a sauna, I would
- 12:45Speaker 2: recommend to have a nice.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Long, warm buff.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Oh, specifically when you're on your period, I would say
- 12:52Speaker 2: do a nice long, warm bath, even a couple days,
- 12:55Speaker 2: like leading up as sooner you start to feel like
- 12:56Speaker 2: those twinges, like's that bit of pain, you feel really tired, slow,
- 13:00Speaker 2: just leaning into that heat therapy.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Really good advice.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Sauna to a bath because that's what I do and
- 13:05Speaker 5: I have a sworn but I have a bath.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, a nice long one to really get your body temper.
- 13:10Speaker 2: So this next thing I want to talk about is
- 13:12Speaker 2: measuring my hr V levels, which is something I've never
- 13:15Speaker 2: actually heard of before. I've been reading the book The
- 13:19Speaker 2: Vagus Nerve Reset, and it's all about regulating your nervous system,
- 13:22Speaker 2: but I never ever knew that you could actually chart
- 13:26Speaker 2: and see what level your nervous system is at. And
- 13:29Speaker 2: it's been really fascinating to me, and it's been a
- 13:31Speaker 2: really great way for me to kick myself off the
- 13:33Speaker 2: buttause I can check it each day and be like,
- 13:35Speaker 2: where am I at? How much capacity do I have?
- 13:38Speaker 2: And where can I pull back if my capacity is
- 13:40Speaker 2: not there today?
- 13:41Speaker 4: It's incredible. I didn't even know this until she told
- 13:43Speaker 4: me this morning.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I was like, what do you mean? It's really cool.
- 13:46Speaker 2: So basically, on a smartwa wash so if you've got
- 13:48Speaker 2: an Apple watch or a fitbit, it can measure your
- 13:51Speaker 2: HRV and what it measures is the fluctuations between each heartbeat,
- 13:57Speaker 2: and that lets you know whether your nervous system is
- 14:00Speaker 2: more in your parasympathetic nervous system or in your sympathetic
- 14:04Speaker 2: nervous system. So one is for fight and flight and
- 14:07Speaker 2: one is for rest and digest. So my number when
- 14:10Speaker 2: I first pulled this up and started to look at
- 14:12Speaker 2: the results was low, and I could tell.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Out of one hundred it scores.
- 14:16Speaker 2: You yep, So it has a score from zero to
- 14:19Speaker 2: one hundred and the average for a thirty year old
- 14:22Speaker 2: female should be between fifty five and seventy five, and
- 14:26Speaker 2: mine was at about a thirty. So I've done a
- 14:29Speaker 2: few things like all these things that I'm telling you
- 14:31Speaker 2: guys throughout the month, and I've gotten it up to
- 14:33Speaker 2: about a forty.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Five, which is a good climb.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome improvement. But I still really want to get
- 14:39Speaker 2: myself up to that like fifty five mark. But I
- 14:42Speaker 2: will get there in time, and it can be a
- 14:43Speaker 2: gradual thing.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
- 14:45Speaker 2: But then also I was saying to Ashi that if
- 14:47Speaker 2: I have a really bad night sleep or something like that,
- 14:49Speaker 2: it will throw me back down into.
- 14:51Speaker 3: A lower level.
- 14:52Speaker 4: But this is just kids.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks kids, But this has just been something that
- 14:57Speaker 2: has been really helpful to track. And also on my fitbit,
- 15:00Speaker 2: you can actually look at your stress score as well,
- 15:03Speaker 2: So if I say, over exercise or my sleep's not
- 15:08Speaker 2: RESTful even though it's long, it will give me a
- 15:10Speaker 2: score in the morning of where I'm at as well,
- 15:13Speaker 2: and just having that guide when I wake up in
- 15:15Speaker 2: the day. Kurt doesn't like it. He doesn't like to
- 15:18Speaker 2: look at it and let it see how he wants
- 15:20Speaker 2: to go about his day. But for me, I love
- 15:22Speaker 2: it because I can be like, okay, I also checking
- 15:24Speaker 2: with myself like how am I feeling? But it's actually
- 15:27Speaker 2: got it there in black and white, like this is
- 15:28Speaker 2: your score and where you're at today. So on the
- 15:30Speaker 2: days when I have got heaps of capacity, I'm like, sweet,
- 15:33Speaker 2: get heaps done today, yes, And then on the days
- 15:35Speaker 2: we're our way up, I'm like, ooh, she's not feeling
- 15:37Speaker 2: like great date. It's like push it aside if you
- 15:39Speaker 2: can whatever you can push aside, push aside and leaning
- 15:42Speaker 2: into that and really listening to my body.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been really cool.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I love that because you are actually just honoring your
- 15:49Speaker 1: body and your health. You're choosing it because if you
- 15:52Speaker 1: didn't track all of that, you would just keep pushing
- 15:54Speaker 1: through every day like you always do, running the same patterns.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Whereas now you're actually checking in with your nervous system.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I remember Megsie actually said to me once that, you know,
- 16:02Speaker 1: every single day we track like oh I have a drink,
- 16:04Speaker 1: enough forward to eat enough food, have I exercise.
- 16:07Speaker 4: It's like tick that box, tick that box, tick that box.
- 16:09Speaker 1: But she runs her day with like every morning she
- 16:11Speaker 1: wakes up and she's like, where's my nervous system at
- 16:15Speaker 1: and I at a seven and matter three. Okay, if
- 16:18Speaker 1: I'm at a three, I need more sunlight today. I'm
- 16:20Speaker 1: gonna put my feet in the grass. I'm going to
- 16:22Speaker 1: do my little things to get that back up. And
- 16:24Speaker 1: that's how she runs her day.
- 16:25Speaker 3: That's amazing. Yeah, that's incredible.
- 16:27Speaker 1: And like before learning that, like I would never just
- 16:30Speaker 1: ask myself, how's my nervous system today? I was like, Oh,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm feeling a bit shit today, but oh, okay, get
- 16:35Speaker 1: to work, like, do what you gotta do.
- 16:37Speaker 3: That's it.
- 16:37Speaker 4: It doesn't have to be like that.
- 16:38Speaker 2: No, And it's so nice to actually see it in
- 16:41Speaker 2: the morning and be like, even.
- 16:43Speaker 5: If you have certain plans on yes, maybe just cancel
- 16:46Speaker 5: them if.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Your nervous system's really shot and you're feeling really shit
- 16:49Speaker 2: and you can feel it, and then also see it
- 16:51Speaker 2: like you've got the power to make that decision ampletely more.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Hay, that's it.
- 16:55Speaker 2: And I never actually knew that this was a thing.
- 16:58Speaker 2: So cool, and I wish I knew this a long
- 16:59Speaker 2: time ago, because I think that if you're aware of it,
- 17:01Speaker 2: it's just I guess it's just working on your health
- 17:04Speaker 2: like it's it is.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I used to wear my watch to bed, and
- 17:07Speaker 1: I think it was a sleep score. It just annoys
- 17:09Speaker 1: me being on my wrist at night because I sleep
- 17:11Speaker 1: with my hands up here me too, But now I
- 17:13Speaker 1: want to because I really want to track this.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really really cool even at the start, just
- 17:17Speaker 2: to see where you know its just st it for
- 17:19Speaker 2: one night and be.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Like, ooh, this is my score is I'm so curious
- 17:22Speaker 3: what your scory is.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And I feel like me and you are like not
- 17:24Speaker 1: with each other, but just with our souls competitive. So
- 17:26Speaker 1: now it's like if it was same thirty, I'd be like, right,
- 17:29Speaker 1: come here fifty.
- 17:31Speaker 4: I know this, but.
- 17:32Speaker 2: It's really nice to them and also be like, okay,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I need to incorporate a little bit more meditation before bed.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I'm not going to watch Netflix.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I'm actually going to sit down and meditate for twenty
- 17:40Speaker 2: minutes instead.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Such a nice, healthy way to compete with yourself. And
- 17:45Speaker 1: I give yourself that challenge of like how calm and
- 17:48Speaker 1: regulated can you get? Definitely, how's it going to feel?
- 17:50Speaker 1: How's it going to impact my life? Then it's the
- 17:52Speaker 1: role on effect of how beautifully that can impact your
- 17:54Speaker 1: life in a positive way.
- 17:56Speaker 2: One hundred percent and sometimes too. Like for me, what
- 17:59Speaker 2: I'm doing is I'm putting all these things in place
- 18:01Speaker 2: to try to raise that score. But if it doesn't
- 18:03Speaker 2: raise another month or two, have to look at my life, yes,
- 18:06Speaker 2: and go, okay, where can I.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Pull something back?
- 18:09Speaker 2: So I can, because when your level is below that
- 18:13Speaker 2: baseline level, you're more susceptible to chronic illnesses, diseases, diseases.
- 18:18Speaker 2: If your nervous system is not in a great way,
- 18:20Speaker 2: everything else pretty much turns to shit.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Can you imagine if I wore this watch when I
- 18:24Speaker 4: lost my sight?
- 18:25Speaker 2: I know I was thinking of that this.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Last couple of months. My score would have been it's
- 18:30Speaker 4: so low.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't have it here, but I'm going to
- 18:32Speaker 4: do this when I get.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Home, sleep in it. Yeah. So for me, this has
- 18:36Speaker 3: just become such a huge priority.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Nothing, as we have been speaking about so much of
- 18:40Speaker 2: the podcast, is more important than our health. So if
- 18:42Speaker 2: in a couple of months, you know, I can't get
- 18:44Speaker 2: that back up, that's when I'm gonna have to look
- 18:46Speaker 2: at my life and be like, okay, so where can I.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Push that shift?
- 18:48Speaker 2: Something's going to change because nothing's more important than that.
- 18:52Speaker 2: And I truly believe in my soul and my gut
- 18:56Speaker 2: that this has been the number one thing that.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Has helped with my period.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Wow, out of everything else, I feel like this has
- 19:03Speaker 2: been the number one. I think everything else is definitely
- 19:05Speaker 2: played its part, yes, but I.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Think this has made the most significant.
- 19:09Speaker 4: Just focusing on your nervous system.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Focusing on our nervous system.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Yeah, well, you think about it.
- 19:13Speaker 1: When your nervous systems disregulated and you are disregulated physically,
- 19:17Speaker 1: you feel that, but mentally and emotionally, that raises your
- 19:21Speaker 1: quartersol levels, That raises your stress hormones. So then your
- 19:23Speaker 1: body gets inflamed. It thinks the tigers kind of come
- 19:26Speaker 1: and get you, so you're running and your your stress like.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Of course, that causes information and problems in your body,
- 19:31Speaker 1: and that comes out and symptoms in your period. Because
- 19:33Speaker 1: when you're on your period, your body is understressed. So
- 19:36Speaker 1: then if you've got information, it's added stress. That's when
- 19:38Speaker 1: the headache comes in. That's when they're bloating, that's when
- 19:40Speaker 1: your digestive system gets affected. That's when you don't sleep
- 19:42Speaker 1: as well. So regulating your nervous system lowers those stress
- 19:46Speaker 1: levels low as your quartersole doesn't spike them and your
- 19:50Speaker 1: body doesn't get as many symptoms.
- 19:51Speaker 5: It makes total sense, makes so much sense.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Hey, incredible, But resting and digesting it's not something that
- 19:57Speaker 2: most of us take time out of by.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Day nor time.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I wonder so many people have gut issues these days
- 20:02Speaker 1: and skin issues makes sense?
- 20:04Speaker 2: Hey yeah, yeah, So I think that that's such a
- 20:07Speaker 2: huge one for me. Something else that I have incorporated
- 20:10Speaker 2: as well, because I feel like the more we can
- 20:12Speaker 2: move our body, I feel like that definitely plays a
- 20:14Speaker 2: role in helping that periods too. I've just been still
- 20:17Speaker 2: doing my regular walks, but I've up to my gym
- 20:18Speaker 2: to doing like four or five times a week. And
- 20:20Speaker 2: this is also something that's great for your HRV levels.
- 20:23Speaker 2: So living a healthy lifestyle, eating whole foods, exercising more regularly,
- 20:28Speaker 2: and also on the flip of that, giving your body
- 20:31Speaker 2: a chance to rest and chill throughout the day, all
- 20:33Speaker 2: those things are what play a part in your HRV
- 20:35Speaker 2: SCOT and your sleep.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Wow.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's really going back to the basics. But
- 20:40Speaker 2: it's so easy for us to think that all these
- 20:42Speaker 2: things don't have an impact on us, and you wouldn't
- 20:44Speaker 2: necessarily think that it has such a huge impact on
- 20:46Speaker 2: things like your period. Yeah, you might be having heavy
- 20:48Speaker 2: People like, oh my gosh, it's just because I've had
- 20:49Speaker 2: three kids, or just because I've had this happen. It's like, well, no,
- 20:52Speaker 2: you actually can calm it all down. And this last
- 20:56Speaker 2: one for me that I had, I had like one
- 20:58Speaker 2: heavy day and it was seven days long.
- 21:00Speaker 4: Oh so much better than eleven or two.
- 21:02Speaker 2: It got to the end of it and I said
- 21:04Speaker 2: to Kurt, I was like, I think that's it. And
- 21:06Speaker 2: I was like, what, Like, it's been years that I've
- 21:10Speaker 2: suffered with heavy, long periods, and it is just me
- 21:14Speaker 2: not tuning in, not listening to myself, not stepping back
- 21:19Speaker 2: when I need to. I think it's like all those
- 21:21Speaker 2: little things as well, Like when leeve I said the
- 21:23Speaker 2: supplements and that why not take it? If it's gonna
- 21:27Speaker 2: make you feel better, why not.
- 21:29Speaker 1: That's what somethings are there there to support and supplement
- 21:31Speaker 1: what you're not getting elsewhere.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so good.
- 21:35Speaker 2: And then just like another little thing that I've been
- 21:36Speaker 2: doing because i haven't been having my coffee is I've
- 21:38Speaker 2: been incorporating a kama mal tea before bed because kamamal
- 21:41Speaker 2: tea is very calming very good for our nervous system
- 21:44Speaker 2: regulation as well. But I've just had so many people
- 21:47Speaker 2: because I spoke with my stories and I was like,
- 21:49Speaker 2: oh my gosh, my period has been fine this month.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's actually crazy and they're like, what have you done?
- 21:55Speaker 2: And I think that you know, as we always talk
- 21:58Speaker 2: about this day and age, life is just so busy,
- 22:00Speaker 2: it's so go, go go. We all feel like we
- 22:03Speaker 2: can't take a break. But we all to listen to ourself,
- 22:09Speaker 2: listen to an intuition and lean into giving ourself the
- 22:14Speaker 2: space and the love and the care that it needs,
- 22:16Speaker 2: especially being a female and having a cycle that week beforehand,
- 22:21Speaker 2: really tuning in and yeah, I was ignoring it for
- 22:24Speaker 2: a long time.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So important.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Another thing that really just to add on there, really
- 22:28Speaker 1: helps with your nervous system is gut health, because your
- 22:32Speaker 1: gut is basically your second braine, and if your gut
- 22:35Speaker 1: health is off, it causes so much inflammation and disease
- 22:38Speaker 1: and health issues and digestive issues and skin problems and
- 22:42Speaker 1: bloating and all those symptoms headaches. Like if your gut
- 22:45Speaker 1: is not being taken care of and you do not
- 22:47Speaker 1: have a good lining of good bacteria, you'll find a
- 22:50Speaker 1: lot more of a symptoms will come out. So for
- 22:52Speaker 1: gut health, I think I've said it before, but I'll
- 22:54Speaker 1: repeat it. The course of probotics, good quality probotics that
- 22:57Speaker 1: need to be in the fridge, our glutamine on an
- 22:59Speaker 1: empty stomach, having just a tea spoon with some water
- 23:02Speaker 1: and shot it down and bone breath is incredible.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Been doing that daily too. Yah, bone broth and it's
- 23:07Speaker 3: so yummy.
- 23:08Speaker 4: It's so great nice, it's warming. Hey.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Now bone broth has been regular as well, and just
- 23:14Speaker 2: really focusing on eating nutritious foods, not eating things because
- 23:18Speaker 2: they're quick and easy or they're right there. But like
- 23:21Speaker 2: even this morning, like I made a birch and musical.
- 23:23Speaker 2: It's golled like apple, and it's got banana in there
- 23:26Speaker 2: and seeds and nuts and strawberries and all that good stuff,
- 23:31Speaker 2: natural yogurt, and just really trying to eat yummy, whole foods.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And as well, I've been cooking a lot more so,
- 23:37Speaker 2: finding that there is healthy, yummy recipes that.
- 23:40Speaker 1: You can make, definitely, and so many easy ways that
- 23:43Speaker 1: you can pack a ton of vegetables into your meals.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Like I'm really into my sloc cooko at the moment,
- 23:47Speaker 1: put so many veggies into a solo coocut and it
- 23:49Speaker 1: just like all meshes together and makes a beautiful soup
- 23:51Speaker 1: or beautiful curry. And you can add more bone broth.
- 23:54Speaker 4: In there when you get back in my so.
- 23:57Speaker 1: So easy to Yeah, I made like a honey so
- 23:59Speaker 1: chicken the other day with like chicken chicken broth, chicken stock,
- 24:02Speaker 1: chicken thighs, carrots, bock, choy brock, and it's put on
- 24:06Speaker 1: a better rise.
- 24:06Speaker 4: It's delicious with like.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Sauce with coconut aminos, honey like manooa honey and a
- 24:12Speaker 1: little bit of coconut oil and minced.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Garlicif that was my source, that was so.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Young, all natural, all healthy, but a healthy alternative. The
- 24:24Speaker 1: sauce really good and mix it with coconut oil and
- 24:26Speaker 1: it makes like a delicious, sticky marinate delicious. Get it
- 24:30Speaker 1: from my health food store. I've said it before too,
- 24:33Speaker 1: but period undies I swear they help. Oh yeah, when
- 24:36Speaker 1: you have a tampon in, it's blocking it's not allowing
- 24:40Speaker 1: the blood to float out and come out. You're literally
- 24:42Speaker 1: clogging and blocking it up there. And I'd still wear them,
- 24:46Speaker 1: but if you can be in period undies, it would
- 24:48Speaker 1: definitely help minimize your symptoms.
- 24:50Speaker 4: I swear by it. There's got to be studies about it.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I need to look at it, but I swear I
- 24:54Speaker 1: noticed way less symptoms.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Pain drastically, I find.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Us, and it just feels so much more natural to
- 25:00Speaker 1: You're not supposed to have something shoved up.
- 25:02Speaker 4: No, we are not only something else.
- 25:08Speaker 5: Sorry, how did I not think of that?
- 25:11Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Yeah, And even you know, if you do go home
- 25:16Speaker 2: and you do decide to track your HRV levels, I
- 25:18Speaker 2: want you to know this. You can be super healthy,
- 25:21Speaker 2: be feeling or thinking that you're very regulated and you're
- 25:24Speaker 2: doing all the right things in your lifestyle, but if
- 25:26Speaker 2: somebody has dealt with trauma or PTSD, it can still
- 25:30Speaker 2: show up in a low score because it's still stored
- 25:32Speaker 2: in your body. So all we, you know, need to
- 25:34Speaker 2: try to heal that trauma and move through it as well.
- 25:36Speaker 1: Even if I feel like, even if you're super healthy
- 25:39Speaker 1: doing all the things, if you're not feeling in alignment
- 25:42Speaker 1: and you feel off center, as if I explained, and
- 25:44Speaker 1: you feel stressed or worried about something or something in
- 25:47Speaker 1: your gut's telling you that it's not right, and you
- 25:49Speaker 1: keep just doing that thing, because you do that will
- 25:53Speaker 1: show up your nervous system feels everything does. It's literally
- 25:57Speaker 1: their anxiety is there to give you a message, like
- 26:00Speaker 1: a little pop up on your message out, like a
- 26:02Speaker 1: little notification like hey, dingdin ding something not right?
- 26:06Speaker 4: Are you going to listen to me?
- 26:07Speaker 1: Or do I have to push you a bit harder
- 26:08Speaker 1: so that you have to listen to me? So listen
- 26:11Speaker 1: to those signals. Definitely be a.
- 26:13Speaker 4: Good point about the trauma.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so much of us store things because one we've
- 26:17Speaker 1: had to park it to the side to survive, Like
- 26:20Speaker 1: our body has got incredible ways to protect ourselves and
- 26:23Speaker 1: to help us get through life. But it's got to
- 26:26Speaker 1: come out some way later on, and a lot of
- 26:28Speaker 1: time that is in our nervous system and in pain
- 26:30Speaker 1: or diseases or addictions.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely.
- 26:34Speaker 2: But anyways, I really just want to share that because
- 26:36Speaker 2: it's been really nice.
- 26:37Speaker 3: Being on this health journey.
- 26:38Speaker 2: So it's been really nice to not be drinking and
- 26:41Speaker 2: not be having caffeine and taking extra supplements and listening
- 26:45Speaker 2: to my body. And I really am excited that I'm
- 26:48Speaker 2: down this route now and it's like I'm definitely going
- 26:50Speaker 2: to continue on and The goal is to try to get.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Off my medication and see what I can do with that.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Keep trying to learn and keep trying to incorporate new
- 26:56Speaker 2: things and see what I can do naturally.
- 26:59Speaker 4: So inspiring.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I'm so glad you wanted to do this episode because
- 27:01Speaker 1: it's something that I feel is just so normalized have
- 27:05Speaker 1: bad periods and to have pain and to have all
- 27:07Speaker 1: these symptoms like oh, you see some of your videos
- 27:09Speaker 1: even on Instagram of like this is normal, and it's like,
- 27:11Speaker 1: what is it?
- 27:12Speaker 4: And does it have to be like that? Does it
- 27:14Speaker 4: have to be your normal? It doesn't.
- 27:16Speaker 1: There is other ways. It's not easy, and it can
- 27:18Speaker 1: be uncomfortable, and you can still speak with your medical
- 27:21Speaker 1: team and your doctors or whatever and do your own research.
- 27:23Speaker 1: But I'm so glad you shared all of this because
- 27:25Speaker 1: so many of those little things each of us can try,
- 27:28Speaker 1: Like why don't you try and add more magnesium in?
- 27:30Speaker 1: Why don't you try and just carve out five minutes?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Why don't you whar you watch to bed? There are
- 27:33Speaker 1: some little things that people can incorporate with give yourself
- 27:36Speaker 1: a challenge.
- 27:36Speaker 5: You might think coffee's not affecting you, try thirty days.
- 27:39Speaker 3: And yeah, freaking amazing.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I promise you to get Yeah, but yeah, I think
- 27:43Speaker 2: the biggest thing is to like all in our own
- 27:45Speaker 2: season if you're in a busy season. Like I said,
- 27:47Speaker 2: this whole thing started for me like two years ago,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and only now have I felt ready and like I've
- 27:51Speaker 2: had this space to be like, Okay, let's actually try to.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Fix this issue that's going on here.
- 27:56Speaker 2: I do understand like life goes on and life is
- 27:58Speaker 2: busy and things are happening sometimes.
