0:11

0:12
SPEAKER_01: My name is Brett.
0:14
SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Useless Panter.
0:16
SPEAKER_00: A podcast where two best friends won't shut the fuck up.
0:21
SPEAKER_00: Basically, a podcast where we talk about a bunch of useless shit that doesn't really matter, but it's highly entertaining.
0:26
SPEAKER_01: Heavy on the highly entertaining.
0:28
SPEAKER_01: So raise your glass, lower your expectations, and let's get useless.
0:34
SPEAKER_00: Speaking of, cheers.
0:36
SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, cheers.
0:37
SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is like always a maze.
0:38
SPEAKER_00: Oh, our light sign um is struggling, you guys, but it's okay.
0:43
SPEAKER_00: And so are we?
0:49
SPEAKER_00: Okay, all right, all right, cheers, cheers.
0:51
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
0:52
SPEAKER_00: Um, we're gonna fix the sign in.
0:53
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, the wine is more important.
0:55
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, honestly, probably.
0:57
SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
1:03
SPEAKER_00: I don't know why that makes me giggle every time.
1:06
SPEAKER_00: Um, okay.
1:07
SPEAKER_00: Well, no, it's so good.
1:14
SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so yeah, the girlies.
1:19
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
1:20
SPEAKER_00: So this year we went to Coachella.
1:23
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
1:24
SPEAKER_01: I hey.
1:25
SPEAKER_01: Every the last two years that we've gone to Coachella, we literally were like, We're not gonna go.
1:31
SPEAKER_00: Well, okay, two years ago we were like, we're not gonna go, and then one week before, bought tickets and went.
1:36
SPEAKER_00: This past year we bought tickets, but then we're like, uh, like whatever, debating and we didn't have anywhere to stay.
1:42
SPEAKER_01: We both were moving, like, there's just a lot of things.
1:44
SPEAKER_01: We just got back from Europe, so we were just like okay.
1:46
SPEAKER_01: We're like, are we doing the most?
1:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you know, per usual, we were.
1:50
SPEAKER_01: And we are.
1:51
SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, we had originally gotten weekend one.
1:53
SPEAKER_01: We're always like, oh, we are weekend one girlies, let's get weekend one tickets for sure.
1:58
SPEAKER_01: Whatever.
1:58
SPEAKER_01: Mind you, I had never been to weekend two before.
2:00
SPEAKER_01: Have you?
2:01
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've done the first like two times I think I went to Coachella, I did weekend two.
2:05
SPEAKER_01: The first two times that I went, I would I did weekend one, which I mean I've only been twice before this, but so anyways, we had weekend one tickets, but because we waited so long and we just had so much else going on.
2:16
SPEAKER_01: Of course, we dropped the ball with places to stay.
2:19
SPEAKER_00: And um but luckily we had some friends who were going.
2:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
2:22
SPEAKER_01: And they were like, Well, we have somewhere to stay for weekend two.
2:25
SPEAKER_01: Correct.
2:25
SPEAKER_01: So we were like, uh, do we just like sell our tickets?
2:30
SPEAKER_01: Also, it was kind of nice because we sold our tickets and then actually made a little bit, so it ended up being cheaper, cheaper.
2:35
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because she cheaper weekend two.
2:38
SPEAKER_00: Because there, yeah, I feel like weekend one is so high in demand that like it we were able to sell it for more than what we paid for our weekend two tickets.
2:45
SPEAKER_01: And I feel like just in general, weekend two is a little bit cheaper, like even for the stay and stuff.
2:51
SPEAKER_01: Like, I felt like maybe I don't know.
2:53
SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
2:54
SPEAKER_01: I mean, last year we stayed in a house, yeah, and that was I mean, it was a house, so it was the house is more expensive, but I mean we damn near had bunk beds, yeah, you know.
3:04
SPEAKER_01: Um, but we stayed in a little um like a hotel resort.
3:10
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was actually really nice, and it was a lot of space.
3:13
SPEAKER_00: It was a lot of space, and basically, like we were a group of six, but we got two rooms, so it was three and three.
3:18
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, the rooms were so spacious, so nice, and they have for an extra fee, but they have their own shuttles that go to and from Coachella.
3:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, which I I saw that like other resorts and places do too, but not everywhere does, right?
3:30
SPEAKER_00: So we didn't have shuttle passes since we like where you bought the tickets or whatever.
3:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it was nice to be able to have that, honestly.
3:37
SPEAKER_01: And we what we paid about like six hundred for the room.
3:41
SPEAKER_01: There's three of us in a room, which was honestly more than like it was a lot of space, and we paid like six hundred dollars for the room, and then we paid like a hundred and fifty for the shuttle, yeah.
3:52
SPEAKER_00: Um which I think our Coachella Pass shuttles, I think they might be around the same, yeah.
3:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and honestly, I prefer the shuttle that we took because our shuttle was like the shuttle line was way shorter, and it's like direct to us, direct, yeah.
4:07
SPEAKER_00: So it's like it just goes, you know.
4:09
SPEAKER_00: So honestly, it was really nice.
4:10
SPEAKER_01: Okay, so let's get into it.
4:12
SPEAKER_01: Which one and why would you prefer?
4:15
SPEAKER_01: Which weekend do you like better?
4:17
SPEAKER_01: I feel like this year specifically, there's been like a major like battle.
4:19
SPEAKER_01: Everyone like used to love weekend one, then I feel like a lot of people said weekend two is better this year.
4:25
SPEAKER_01: Um, what is your opinion?
4:26
SPEAKER_01: Because you I feel like are pretty experienced Coachella.
4:29
SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so weekend one versus weekend two Coachella.
4:33
SPEAKER_00: I feel like honestly, there's pros and cons to both.
4:36
SPEAKER_00: It's a hit or miss because I've been to years where weekend one has the better guests, but then I've also been to years where weekend two has the better guests.
4:44
SPEAKER_00: This past year was an example of that.
4:45
SPEAKER_00: But there was also another year, I think the year that um was it that Harry Styles headlined?
4:51
SPEAKER_00: I want to say, I can't remember.
4:52
SPEAKER_00: But there was one year that I remember us being like, oh my gosh, I preferred the guest of weekend two way more.
4:57
SPEAKER_00: So it's honestly, it just depends.
4:58
SPEAKER_00: You know, I feel like they switch it up.
5:00
SPEAKER_01: Is that the main deciding factor?
5:03
SPEAKER_01: Do you think that is like the main thing when people say, Oh, weekend two is better this year, weekend one was better this year?
5:08
SPEAKER_01: Do you think that it's mostly because of the guests that the artists bring out?
5:12
SPEAKER_00: I feel like there's two things.
5:13
SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, because the people are there for the music, right?
5:15
SPEAKER_00: So yes, I feel like that's a big part of it.
5:17
SPEAKER_00: But I feel like, um, and a lot of people that I talk to are always like, like even this year, people were like, I'm so sad I didn't go weekend two because I always go weekend one, but they had better guests, right?
5:26
SPEAKER_00: But I think another part of it is the whole stigma around weekend one being for the influencers and the brands and like that kind of stuff, which I I do understand because I do feel like weekend one can be a little more focused on that.
5:37
SPEAKER_00: And like we've experienced it where like there's there's um people from like different uh new news outlets and things like that that are like taking pictures and they're like asking you, okay, can I take a picture for this?
5:47
SPEAKER_00: Can I take a picture for that?
5:48
SPEAKER_00: Like things like that.
5:49
SPEAKER_00: So I think for people who don't want to be a part of that, they I always that's kind of one of the first things I always hear is like people are prefer weekend two because they don't want to be around all that.
6:00
SPEAKER_00: They just want to be there for the festival and the music and they don't want to worry about the rest, which I do that is valid.
6:05
SPEAKER_00: Like I do get that because I'm like, that can be if you're not into that, which I feel like we don't care.
6:10
SPEAKER_00: So you know what I mean?
6:11
SPEAKER_00: Like we're we're like take our picture, we want to dress up, we want to look cute, like which I it is fun for me.
6:16
SPEAKER_00: It's part of the experience.
6:17
SPEAKER_00: You're running around and people are appreciating the effort that's the art that's going into it, yeah.
6:22
SPEAKER_00: The art that's going into it and everything.
6:24
SPEAKER_00: Um, but for me personally, I don't really have a preference.
6:28
SPEAKER_00: The only thing I will say is like one thing we were talking about is how last year we did weekend one and we went to that after party.
6:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
6:34
SPEAKER_00: And I do feel like weekend one has generally just more after parties in general happening.
6:39
SPEAKER_00: I agree, yeah.
6:40
SPEAKER_00: Which is fun because then you kind of get to see like DJs that maybe you didn't see at the festival at the after parties, and it's just like more fun.
6:48
SPEAKER_01: I um I mean I've only gone three times now, right?
6:52
SPEAKER_01: So one two weekend ones and then one weekend two.
6:56
SPEAKER_01: Me personally, I enjoyed, I think, the weekend one experience better.
7:00
SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm super into fashion, so for me, like fashion is a big thing.
7:05
SPEAKER_01: Like, I am going there because I want to show off how I look, or like it's like a creative experience for me, you know.
7:11
SPEAKER_01: Like I get to style, I get to style us.
7:13
SPEAKER_01: Like, right.
7:14
SPEAKER_01: Um, and so I feel like uh weekend one, I feel like people put a little bit more effort into you know the things that they're wearing and stuff.
7:21
SPEAKER_01: And I also can see how that's annoying when you're going to a music festival if you just want to be there for the music.
7:26
SPEAKER_01: You're like, I don't care how I look, I'm just here to have fun, I'm here to enjoy the artist that I'm going to see.
7:30
SPEAKER_01: Like, I totally understand that.
7:32
SPEAKER_01: Um, and that's so valid.
7:34
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
7:34
SPEAKER_01: Um, but for people who are into like fashion or expressing themselves creative uh creatively, I think weekend one was nice because also, yeah, the two other times that we went weekend one, it was like we were walking around and photographers are asking us to take our picture, and like we got, I mean, there's like literally a picture of us, like we were like Oh my gosh, yes, in those green and pink cowboy outfits, right?
7:53
SPEAKER_01: Yes, that like literally got published.
7:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in the LA Times.
7:56
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it got published in LA Times, and then we also were like the the cover photo for like what was the gaze of Coachella?
8:03
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we literally had the cover photo, like on like a face like and it's like there's like thousands of people in this group that gaze of Coach.
8:10
SPEAKER_01: And we're not even in the group, we're not even in the group, and we're on the cover, like ow.
8:14
SPEAKER_00: But it's funny because someone sent that to us, didn't they?
8:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were like, You guys are the the cover of this, and we were like, we're not even a part of that group.
8:20
SPEAKER_00: We're like, hey, thanks for the invite.
8:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, and then and then literally, if like one of my someone I used to cheer with, like he like sent me a screen recording of him looking up Coachella Fitz on Google, and we were like the top like four search.
8:37
SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I was like, Odyssey period.
8:38
SPEAKER_01: No, honestly, period, like like we ate that.
8:41
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, yeah.
8:42
SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, but I enjoy that.
8:43
SPEAKER_01: And then I will say I do think that weekend one is typically more gay, and it probably is because of the after party that we went to, and like it's not like an after party that you think it's not at someone's house, it's not like whatever, it's like a full festival party.
8:59
SPEAKER_01: It's like a production, yeah.
9:01
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's at an abandoned warehouse.
9:03
SPEAKER_01: There's a oh sorry, abandoned uh airport, and there's a full stage.
9:08
SPEAKER_01: Um then who like who was playing?
9:11
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Mount P was playing, and we were like, what it's like um, so I personally enjoyed it for the for that.
9:17
SPEAKER_01: Obviously, the gays are out.
9:20
SPEAKER_01: I love like the fashion trends.
9:22
SPEAKER_01: I love like seeing people like being creative about how they're expressing themselves.
9:28
SPEAKER_01: Uh and then I love an after party.
9:31
SPEAKER_00: Let's also talk about the fashion at Coachella because I was different this year.
9:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was kind of gagged.
9:35
SPEAKER_00: And like even after we went, right, there's like people talking about it on social media and outlets and whatever.
9:39
SPEAKER_00: And it's like how you know, for a long time Coachella was like super out there, creative fashion.
9:47
SPEAKER_00: And then this year the trend was like minimalism.
9:50
SPEAKER_00: Like it was like very casual, which I do, it's kind of interesting because I feel like even seeing the shift from like Instagram and social media, right?
9:58
SPEAKER_00: To now, like TikTok, especially, people want like less is more.
10:03
SPEAKER_00: People are like raw is and real is like the preferred.
10:06
SPEAKER_01: Cause I remember like raw is always preferred, yeah.
10:14
SPEAKER_00: No comment.
10:16
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I would nap.
10:18
SPEAKER_00: Um, no, so girl, you're not fooling nobody, please.
10:23
SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, I love sushi.
10:25
SPEAKER_00: Um, it is it is crazy because um it is so interesting to see that shift.
10:32
SPEAKER_00: And while while I do think like in terms of social media and things like that, I'm like, oh, it's so cool that we're shifting to that.
10:38
SPEAKER_00: It is kind of interesting because I feel like for fashion, not to say that there aren't people still being creative and putting it out there, but it's like, is that where we're headed?
10:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
10:48
SPEAKER_01: Well, I I also agree.
10:50
SPEAKER_01: I saw a lot of these trends too, and then I saw a lot of things like just like in regards to celebrities' outfits.
10:55
SPEAKER_01: And I do think that that is just the current fashion trend right now is like less is more, but I think that there's a way to do less is more where it's like you're still putting effort into that specific aesthetic, right?
11:05
SPEAKER_01: Like you can keep up with the times, um, and you can like try to like try less hard, but like you're not really trying less hard, you're just like trying to match the aesthetic, yeah, which is less uh like I would say like theatrical.
11:22
SPEAKER_01: Like I feel like Coachella Fashion used to be like so overly expressive and theatrical.
11:27
SPEAKER_01: People are wearing insane things, um, which again, some people still do, and I'm always um like in support of that because for me, again, like someone who is a fashion student, I'm like this is an opportunity for me to like express myself, express like my vision.
11:43
SPEAKER_01: And it's like, you know, I'm a fitness instructor, so I wear gym clothes every single day.
11:48
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so I don't really get a lot of opportunities unless I'm going out or whatever.
11:52
SPEAKER_01: But even if you're like going out to bars and stuff, you're not gonna express yourself as creatively as you would at a festival.
11:57
SPEAKER_00: Uh like a yeah, exactly, exactly.
11:59
SPEAKER_01: I feel like there's more room to play there, you know?
12:02
SPEAKER_01: With that being said, I um I saw like a a lot of people posting like for the like some people in support of like, yeah, I'm so glad that it's not about the fashion anymore.
12:13
SPEAKER_01: Then I saw other people who are into fashion, like, no, I'm gonna try every year.
12:16
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, honestly, period, I will probably try every year.
12:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I also think there's with this whole trend, in a way, there's uh power and simplicity because it's like the way that you style it or the way that you add accessories to it, or even like if you have a simple piece but you add like a little, I don't want to say embellishment, but kind of you know something like something like that.
12:35
SPEAKER_00: Like it's like it just it makes you think, yeah.
12:38
SPEAKER_01: It showcases your it just makes you look like you aren't trying as hard, but still for uh but still have an eye for correct, correct.
12:47
SPEAKER_01: Like a few of the trends that I saw this year, like I feel like everyone was wearing like a cargo short or like a camo short, which like I'm like work, and then what and we did it almost every day was it like number one the multiple belts, yeah, um, or the the belly chains, and then the the like bandana or uh head wrap like hanging from your shorts.
13:08
SPEAKER_01: I feel like literally almost everyone did that this year, and I loved it.
13:11
SPEAKER_01: I loved wearing it myself.
13:12
SPEAKER_01: I thought that was a really cool trend.
13:14
SPEAKER_00: Um I think that's also because a lot of people in general already wear bandanas and stuff because of the dust.
13:19
SPEAKER_00: Correct.
13:19
SPEAKER_01: So like that's the bandana thing has been around, but I think it is the way that it was the way that people were wearing it this year, yeah, because it's like trendy and functional.
13:27
SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, but that and then yeah, I think that this year was like the year of the accessories, like very bland clothing choices, like or whatever.
13:36
SPEAKER_01: But then again, like you said, the embellishments are what like made you like do a double take, like, oh wait, that's yeah, it's kind of cute how they styled those accessories with that because it looked minimal effort, but still looks elevated because of the accessories, right?
13:48
SPEAKER_00: Right, I agree 100%.
13:50
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so who were like your top uh shows or artists that played at Coachella?
13:56
SPEAKER_01: I have to say that FKA Twigs blew me literally out of the water.
14:02
SPEAKER_01: Like, I number one, we were having fun, and I think that was the one set though that we were all dead.
14:10
SPEAKER_01: Silent either we look at each other and be like literally like so locked.
14:16
SPEAKER_01: I wasn't even dancing, which some people say that that's you know, whatever.
14:19
SPEAKER_01: It's like you you want your crowd to dance or whatever, but like I was so in awe of the artistry that I was witnessing live that I couldn't even move.
14:28
SPEAKER_01: My jaw was on the floor.
14:29
SPEAKER_01: My I was so locked in with everything that was happening on the stage.
14:33
SPEAKER_01: I was like, this is insane.
14:35
SPEAKER_01: I've known who FK Twix is, I've always been a supporter of her.
14:39
SPEAKER_01: I can't say that I genuinely listened to her music or even know any of her songs.
14:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and a lot of times I want to go to the artist where I know their songs because that's fun, right?
14:48
SPEAKER_01: Um, but I was just like, I know she's a great artist.
14:50
SPEAKER_01: I've heard that the show is good, I want to go see it.
14:53
SPEAKER_01: And I didn't know, honestly, even like I maybe knew like one song, and I was genuinely so locked into that performance.
15:01
SPEAKER_01: The dancing, she incorporated a lot of vogue.
15:05
SPEAKER_01: She highlighted her dancers well.
15:06
SPEAKER_01: She was dancing just as well as her dancers, the styling, the set, the the art direct.
15:13
SPEAKER_00: She was pole dancing at one point, and so was another girl.
15:15
SPEAKER_00: Like, she was literally on the I was like, dang, girl, she is like doing everything.
15:19
SPEAKER_00: And like and the outfits were just like she had so many different outfits, they were all amazing.
15:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, her her sense of choreography and dance was really, really impressive.
15:26
SPEAKER_00: Her dancers were obviously amazing, and I just feel like all of it together was a full production and it had levels, and I was like, wow, this is really, really I would have been happy to see that on the main stage.
15:37
SPEAKER_00: I know we kept saying that we're like, she needs to be on the main stage because that production expanded or like elevated to the main stage would have been so amazing.
15:45
SPEAKER_01: 100%.
15:46
SPEAKER_01: Because and listen, I'm just gonna throw shade.
15:50
SPEAKER_01: I like Justin Bieber was on the main shade stage, and this may be clickbait, but I don't think he did anything.
15:59
SPEAKER_00: He didn't though.
16:00
SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was him and a laptop.
16:01
SPEAKER_01: I just think like after watching her on stage and thinking about how like how much time and effort she must have put, how many different people were like helping create this?
16:14
SPEAKER_01: Like they wanted to impress people, they wanted you to like think, they wanted your uh your like uh what is that like say your sixth sense or whatever, like to be like they they wanted to make inspire people to think, and they tried so hard in all aspects, and he got up there with a laptop on the main stage, and I think and I understand that he has worked his ass off, I guess his entire career to be able to okay, but you're agreeing to do Coachella as a headliner.
16:45
SPEAKER_00: One I know, at least from what I've heard in the past, right?
16:48
SPEAKER_00: Like he doesn't love performing, he doesn't love touring, like a lot of that I think is not his favorite thing.
16:53
SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, I don't and I don't know if it was his decision, right?
16:56
SPEAKER_00: There could have been probably pressure from a lot of different angles, but at the same time, I'm like, you're agreeing to do the show, and it is a little heartbreaking because there are artists that are like pouring their heart and soul into the performance and they're not even on the main stage, and then you're out here with this opportunity and this platform.
17:13
SPEAKER_00: If he got out there with a laptop and did the whole gig that he did, work, but like you can there's I feel like that was all he did, as opposed to like there's that theme or that storyline, and then incorporating moments, right?
17:25
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, he brought people out and things like that, which I feel like everyone was like, that's when it got kind of a little more upbeat and fun because you were excited to see who's out.
17:33
SPEAKER_00: But other than that, I I was honestly disappointed with like just again.
17:38
SPEAKER_00: If this was your concert and maybe people knew that that's what you're they were getting, or like yes, even then, though I feel like you should have a moment to I don't know, I mean like energy up, but yeah, not even to bring out one dancer, like again, you can have those moments.
17:52
SPEAKER_01: He could have full songs with no dancers on the stage, of course, or it's just him and his laptop.
17:56
SPEAKER_01: You could incorporate that that style or that aesthetic or that like you know, just just your vocal storyline, make that a storyline, and then give us moments where we're gonna like feel something or feel like you actually cared to put a lot into this performance, yeah.
18:08
SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah.
18:09
SPEAKER_00: Like I, you know, I I was I was never a believer in that sense.
18:13
SPEAKER_00: Like I liked his music and stuff, but like, and hey, love him, but yeah, I was kind of disappointed with that.
18:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was like, this is really all that's happening.
18:21
SPEAKER_00: When when it first started, I was like, okay, like we're getting a little theme or something, you know.
18:25
SPEAKER_00: But then I was like, no, this is no build.
18:27
SPEAKER_00: It was this is it, yeah.
18:29
SPEAKER_00: I was like, what?
18:30
SPEAKER_01: That's it.
18:31
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
18:32
SPEAKER_00: I mean, his guests were amazing.
18:33
SPEAKER_00: Bill East is uh, like you know, he had amazing people, but again, uh again, like I get it.
18:37
SPEAKER_01: He's worked really hard in his career to be able to be loved enough to maybe be able to pull that off because he just has all these girls that are obsessed with him.
18:45
SPEAKER_01: Well, and there was a lot of people who were saying they loved it, yeah.
18:48
SPEAKER_01: No, that people were like, Oh, it healed parts of them just to hear him sing and stuff like that.
18:51
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, that is so cool and so great, and I love that.
18:55
SPEAKER_01: But just from an artist standpoint, I don't think that you put enough effort in.
18:58
SPEAKER_00: As an artist and also as a performer, like I feel like I just, you know, for us it would be a dream to be on that stage.
19:04
SPEAKER_01: And the the amount of things, like the amount of time, effort, opportunities that like I would take, and like the amount of effort that I would put into to put on a show.
19:14
SPEAKER_01: It's like also like every single person in that audience paid thousands of dollars to be there.
19:20
SPEAKER_00: He broke the record of how many tickets were sold, which is insane because they were saying he sold it out most than any other headliner, of course.
19:28
SPEAKER_00: You know, and I'm like, that is crazy.
19:31
SPEAKER_00: And that's what I mean is like, uh, give us a little more.
19:34
SPEAKER_01: Something.
19:34
SPEAKER_01: Something.
19:35
SPEAKER_01: Um, anyways, what other standout performances?
19:39
SPEAKER_01: Okay, Major Laser was so fun.
19:41
SPEAKER_00: Major Laser was so fun.
19:43
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
19:43
SPEAKER_01: Bringing out Paris Goble were.
19:45
SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
19:46
SPEAKER_00: Like, so it was just like we were we danced the most.
19:49
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, I was in a full sweat.
19:51
SPEAKER_00: Full sweat.
19:51
SPEAKER_00: Like we were going in.
19:52
SPEAKER_00: I was shaking ass, bitch.
19:54
SPEAKER_00: There's a video of literally you, me and Tani, like dot dot becoming the random choreo in the middle of the literally still.
20:00
SPEAKER_01: It was so cool.
20:01
SPEAKER_01: So, so fun.
20:01
SPEAKER_00: And it was cool because actually I got to see that set with my friend Rachel, who I've literally known since third grade.
20:06
SPEAKER_00: Oh, and we she went because her brother was supposed to go, he gave her the ticket, it was like a last minute thing, but she had also been out of state.
20:14
SPEAKER_00: I mean, she still is, but she was like on closer to the East Coast for a long time, and she recently moved to Arizona, so she's been closer, and like, yeah, we I just haven't seen her.
20:22
SPEAKER_00: I haven't been able to see her in so long.
20:24
SPEAKER_00: So it was cute to be able to like reunite with her and cute, yeah.
20:27
SPEAKER_00: And then on top of that, just a fun thing.
20:28
SPEAKER_00: It's nice to meet her too.
20:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's so cute.
20:30
SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, that one was so good.
20:32
SPEAKER_01: And I, you know what I thought was like funny, he was cool too, is he had the um he had the audience doing like a lot of fun, like interactive things, yes, which is cool.
20:41
SPEAKER_01: We were like jump into the red, yeah, yeah.
20:43
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was so fun.
20:45
SPEAKER_01: That was really good.
20:45
SPEAKER_01: What was the other DJ Snake?
20:47
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, DJ Snake was so funny.
20:48
SPEAKER_00: DJ Snake, they uh brought out Diplo.
20:51
SPEAKER_00: Correct, yeah, yeah.
20:52
SPEAKER_00: Also, I had I was so excited all weekend long.
20:55
SPEAKER_00: My girl Carol G.
20:57
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
20:58
SPEAKER_00: That she also and Paris choreographic production.
21:02
SPEAKER_00: That was a production.
21:03
SPEAKER_00: She brought out Jay Balvin, Bessel Pluma.
21:07
SPEAKER_00: Oh my god, that I was not expecting him to come out, honestly, because he performed.
21:11
SPEAKER_00: Was that two years ago?
21:12
SPEAKER_00: I think that might have been two years ago, or maybe I I forget, but I saw him perform uh a couple years ago.
21:18
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, just like the whole thing.
21:19
SPEAKER_00: I just like love her.
21:20
SPEAKER_01: She's like, Well, and it's like that's another example is like didn't like they were saying that she didn't make a single dollar, she actually put in more money into money for her production.
21:31
SPEAKER_00: And it's like I will say she's also going on tour.
21:34
SPEAKER_00: She announced her tour then at Coachella.
21:36
SPEAKER_00: So she was probably like, let me do this.
21:37
SPEAKER_00: It's an investment, it's an investment, which I agree with.
21:40
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I fully agree too.
21:42
SPEAKER_01: And I I mean I also do feel like there is like um you know a political statement being made too, just for like the Latin culture and its big representation right now.
21:51
SPEAKER_01: So like I think that was drama with her in that.
21:53
SPEAKER_01: I know, I know, I know.
21:55
SPEAKER_00: Which is the only downside.
21:56
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, girl, so basically, I mean So let's talk about it.
21:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, so basically, like.
22:00
SPEAKER_00: Like what people were saying, first of all, the mariachi that she got was an all-female mariachi.
22:04
SPEAKER_00: They were saying it.
22:05
SPEAKER_01: And at first, everyone's like, work an all-female mariachi.
22:07
SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
22:08
SPEAKER_00: And then it came out after that.
22:09
SPEAKER_00: One of their I I forget if it's an owner, like an investor, or someone in the company is MAGA.
22:16
SPEAKER_00: And everybody was like, not the all-female Latin mariachi, right?
22:22
SPEAKER_01: Ran by a MAGA supporter.
22:23
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
22:24
SPEAKER_00: So one of the one of the girls actually came out on social media and was like, hey, I want you to know that like, you know, because people were saying, like, well, then why are like if you don't support that, then why are you still working on that like team or under them?
22:36
SPEAKER_00: Which I do agree.
22:37
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm like, yeah.
22:38
SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying it can be hard to find work and it can be hard to like whatever, but I'm also like, you are a well-known all-female mariachi band.
22:46
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm sure you guys could go ahead and do something else.
22:49
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
22:49
SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, honestly, yeah, why would you?
22:51
SPEAKER_00: And it's also unfortunate because I'm like, Yvette and I, like, Yvette and I were talking about it, and we're like, this is why we can't have nice things.
22:57
SPEAKER_00: Because I'm like, we are so excited.
22:58
SPEAKER_00: Carol G is the first Latina headliner.
23:00
SPEAKER_00: Like, she's bringing an all-female mariachi.
23:03
SPEAKER_00: Someone did not do their homework, or they agree with it.
23:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I was actually like, you know, thinking about this myself, and I'm like, do you think that Carol Grass rumors were saying that rumors were saying that Carol G might be in support?
23:19
SPEAKER_00: Because so the part of it, and I don't know if that's true, those are rumors, okay?
23:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
23:23
SPEAKER_00: But because people were saying so there was one side of the conversation that was like Carol G's team told her not to say anything about um ICE or immigrant immigration because of her visa.
23:36
SPEAKER_00: They were like, they're gonna revoke your visa, you won't be able to reform.
23:39
SPEAKER_00: So that I get, but then other people in the comments were saying, Well, there'd been other artists that did do it, even besides that.
23:46
SPEAKER_01: Like they've spoken out and they've and they say, like, if it was if it was me, I would do it.
23:51
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, honestly.
23:52
SPEAKER_01: Because it's just at that point, it's like, you know, like it's just it's to me.
23:56
SPEAKER_01: I I at least I feel like it would be worth it.
23:58
SPEAKER_00: I will say though, Becky G did, I do believe Becky G came out and said, like, Carol G um invited me to perform, right?
24:05
SPEAKER_00: Because she came both weekends, and Becky G made that comment, made that statement about immigration.
24:09
SPEAKER_00: She's like, we love our immigrants.
24:11
SPEAKER_00: Shout out to, you know, my Mexicans, my Latinos, whatever.
24:14
SPEAKER_00: Um, or my immigrants, I think she just said in general.
24:16
SPEAKER_00: But she, and I do believe that she was like, Well, since Carol G can't really say anything, like I'm gonna say it.
24:22
SPEAKER_00: So I don't know what the truth is if I'm being honest.
24:24
SPEAKER_00: Like I'm sure someone out there does.
24:26
SPEAKER_00: If you all know, let me know.
24:27
SPEAKER_00: But um, but again, it's just it's all like just the conversation around that.
24:31
SPEAKER_00: It's such a bummer because one, I do really like, I mean, I love Becky G too.
24:35
SPEAKER_00: Um, but I like Carol G too.
24:37
SPEAKER_00: So cute.
24:38
SPEAKER_00: I know.
24:38
SPEAKER_00: I always say if I was like a Latina pop girl or artist, I'd be her.
24:42
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, honestly, you give Becky G down.
24:44
SPEAKER_00: Just like small, petite cue.
24:49
SPEAKER_00: No, I do.
24:50
SPEAKER_00: I do love her so much.
24:51
SPEAKER_00: Um, singing in the shower.
24:53
SPEAKER_00: No, I was kidding.
24:56
SPEAKER_00: No, but I I do really love her.
24:58
SPEAKER_00: So, and it was honestly really see you next Tuesday was she said, um, like the round two, I don't know if our weekend when she said it.
25:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, all the videos of her, there everybody's like, she's giving side eye, and she said, for my people in the back, she was pointing at the mariachi group behind her.
25:11
SPEAKER_00: Ooh, girl, she really didn't know that.
25:13
SPEAKER_01: I did see the the video that when someone that was a part of the mariachi released, yeah, or whatever.
25:18
SPEAKER_01: But even that video felt subliminal.
25:22
SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm like, it it wasn't like it was we don't support this, and this is not it was kind of like this is just not who I am.
25:28
SPEAKER_01: No, like you know, hey, I don't support that at all.
25:30
SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
25:31
SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like you were you were beating around the bush a little bit, that's what it was, just like for empathy, and like I get it to some extent, and like whatever, but it's like those apology videos where you're like they didn't really say anything, but they said a lot, but they didn't say anything.
25:45
SPEAKER_00: Right.
25:45
SPEAKER_00: That's kind of how it felt.
25:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's how that's how I felt about it too.
25:48
SPEAKER_00: So it's just unfortunate again because I'm like, oh, we like I wanted to ride so hard for my Latinos, and then this happened.
25:53
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, I mean, with that being said though, still the performance was next level.
25:57
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was amazing.
25:58
SPEAKER_01: Paris did a great job with it.
26:00
SPEAKER_01: I I really, really am hoping and praying that my girl Carol G is not young.
26:04
SPEAKER_01: Because that would be devastating and I would have to not support any further.
26:07
SPEAKER_00: And also because she's about to go on tour and I want to see her.
26:09
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, right.
26:10
SPEAKER_00: But if she is, then yeah, we're gonna be giving hard pass.
26:14
SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, yeah.
26:16
SPEAKER_00: So one other thing, because we were talking about how we stayed at that resort this year.
26:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
26:20
SPEAKER_00: You've never camped at Coachella, huh?
26:22
SPEAKER_00: Well, obviously no.
26:22
SPEAKER_00: No, babe.
26:24
SPEAKER_00: Have you ever camped in general?
26:25
SPEAKER_00: I mean like RV.
26:29
SPEAKER_01: An RV, yes.
26:30
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but you've never like during COVID, me, Devin, and one of my previous friends, Tyler, uh, we had we rented an RV for two weeks, and we literally just drove around and camped everywhere and just like partied and whatever.
26:46
SPEAKER_01: It was actually so much fun.
26:48
SPEAKER_00: I just like love when I'm invited.
26:50
SPEAKER_00: And no, I'm just kidding, we didn't know each other.
26:52
SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know you.
26:52
SPEAKER_00: I know we didn't know each other.
26:54
SPEAKER_00: Um, no, that sounds really, really fun, honestly.
26:56
SPEAKER_00: And that's actually something that I've always wanted to do.
26:57
SPEAKER_00: Lizette and I actually used to talk about that, like getting an RV and going to like different national parks in the US when we did that.
27:03
SPEAKER_00: So I think that'd be really fun.
27:05
SPEAKER_00: But I I've never like camp camped, like full-on camping.
27:09
SPEAKER_01: Um what did you do?
27:12
SPEAKER_00: But in no, I'm saying in general.
27:13
SPEAKER_00: Oh like I've never gone to the woods and camped or whatever.
27:16
SPEAKER_00: I've never done that.
27:17
SPEAKER_00: But for Coachella, the first two years I went, we camped.
27:20
SPEAKER_00: You know, you get your car, you do sleep in a tent, but like yeah, I remember the second year.
27:24
SPEAKER_00: That's horrifying.
27:25
SPEAKER_00: I could never, no shade.
27:27
SPEAKER_00: I was also like 21.
27:28
SPEAKER_00: I didn't care, you know.
27:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you were you would give that.
27:32
SPEAKER_00: Sorry, I'm not high maintenance and annoying.
27:35
SPEAKER_00: I'm just kidding.
27:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you give high maintenance, it's okay.
27:38
SPEAKER_00: Um, no, but I it's called elevation, babe.
27:42
SPEAKER_00: It's called you can't handle it.
27:44
SPEAKER_00: And if you can't handle it, you just say that.
27:45
SPEAKER_00: I don't want to.
27:46
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, you can't.
27:50
SPEAKER_00: Um, okay, so anyways, we we camped, but I remember the second year.
27:53
SPEAKER_00: Hey, I'm like, you can't handle it.
27:54
SPEAKER_00: Second year slept in my car because the winds were the winds were so bad that our 10 was flying around.
28:00
SPEAKER_00: And then after that, I was like, I think I'm good.
28:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think we're good.
28:04
SPEAKER_01: No, like if I yeah, I just like it really is no shade to people that do the whole camping thing.
28:10
SPEAKER_00: Like, I get that you um I will say it's really, really fun because you're on the campgrounds with everybody.
28:20
SPEAKER_00: First of all, there's day zero, so you get there early and then you have DJs playing, and there's a lot of like activities and things to do.
28:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they have the after they have the silent disco after, like, you know.
28:29
SPEAKER_00: Can we if can people that just get general admission go to day zero or no?
28:32
SPEAKER_00: You have to camp to go there.
28:33
SPEAKER_00: I think you have to camp because I think the grounds are only open to the camping people, but like you can if you if you are just a regular attendee, you can go to like the silent discos and stuff, but I don't know about day zero.
28:44
SPEAKER_00: I don't think you can just go.
28:45
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one of our friends went to the silent disco this year.
28:48
SPEAKER_01: Right.
28:48
SPEAKER_01: Um, I I have never been around.
28:50
SPEAKER_01: I've actually never been to a silent discount at all.
28:53
SPEAKER_01: Okay, work.
28:54
SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
28:55
SPEAKER_00: Like I did it when we camped, you know.
28:56
SPEAKER_00: I did it once when we camped, but so in that sense, it's like there's a lot to do, and also you like literally I remember when we went, first of all, we were a big group, so we had a uh good amount of spots, but also you make friends with the people around you.
29:08
SPEAKER_00: You guys are like waking up, you're drinking, you're playing beer pong together, like yeah, it's a whole community, so yeah, it is really fun.
29:13
SPEAKER_01: I get I could see how that part of it would be fun.
29:16
SPEAKER_01: I think for me too, sometimes, especially I mean, again, yeah, maybe if I was 21 and I'm just like a a literal rat and could keep going forever.
29:23
SPEAKER_01: I mean, you are I think now, I mean, low key yeah, but like I think now, like sometimes it's like for me, it's like when it's over, yeah, I want to be in a bed in air conditioning, and then I want to be done and I want to wake up in the morning and get ready and shower.
29:37
SPEAKER_01: Like in at my at my own capacity.
29:39
SPEAKER_01: Yes, why I don't want to wait in a line when it's hot outside for a shower, like be like on my tippy toes because you can't like fully engage in your shower moment.
29:49
SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
29:50
SPEAKER_01: Like that's I mean, I agree.
29:51
SPEAKER_00: I think I'm at the age now and the point now where I'm like, I've done it and I'm glad I did it because it was really fun.
29:57
SPEAKER_01: And we can afford a place to stay.
30:03
SPEAKER_00: I okay, I'm just talking about the experience here, but like you better put people in their tax bracket.
30:11
SPEAKER_01: You better put people in their tax bracket.
30:13
SPEAKER_00: Like, honestly.
30:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I I just um I do think those moments are really fun.
30:18
SPEAKER_00: And I think I'm I like I am really, really happy that we did it because that was such an experience in such a time.
30:24
SPEAKER_00: But I'm just like older now, and I just like we're already being wrapped and we're already putting our bodies and our minds and everything through hell.
30:32
SPEAKER_00: Like, we're just going for it.
30:33
SPEAKER_00: That you're right.
30:34
SPEAKER_00: Like, I want to be able to come home, take a nice hot shower, sleep in my bed, wake up rested so that I can throw my body to the ground again.
30:42
SPEAKER_00: Literally, literally, you know, oh also, I am allergic to grass now, so I cannot be doing that.
30:49
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, like I already take a Claritin D every time we go.
30:52
SPEAKER_01: Year one, we're rolling around, literally pussy popping down the hill.
30:57
SPEAKER_01: I have still have the video.
30:58
SPEAKER_01: You are good.
30:59
SPEAKER_01: I have never seen no shit like that.
31:02
SPEAKER_01: I was literally shaking my ass down like hands and knees just scooting his ass down the fucking hill.
31:09
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I was just late.
31:11
SPEAKER_01: I was laying down, and I'm like, I don't have the capacity for that right now, but I love that for you.
31:16
SPEAKER_01: So let me just film it.
31:17
SPEAKER_01: And then for the next two weeks, you didn't have a voice.
31:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because my tongue, I remember my tongue got like so swollen.
31:22
SPEAKER_00: It was swollen and tingly.
31:24
SPEAKER_00: And girl, I thought it was all the other things that were happening at the festival.
31:27
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I got nervous.
31:28
SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh my god, what is happening?
31:29
SPEAKER_01: I'm like, which one?
31:30
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
31:31
SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I'm like, am I tripping?
31:33
SPEAKER_00: Like literally tripping.
31:33
SPEAKER_00: I was like, am I going crazy?
31:34
SPEAKER_00: And then yeah, it turns out it was allergies.
31:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was crazy.
31:38
SPEAKER_01: I will say this year was really tamed for us in regards to previous years.
31:43
SPEAKER_01: I think it's I think it's also because we didn't like have an after party or something to go to.
31:47
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh, if there was an after party, yeah.
31:49
SPEAKER_01: Our after party was we hopped over the fence in our resort and like went to the hot tub or the hot tub that was closed and just brought our little and then hey, like we're all just hanging out and the security's like, you gotta leave.
32:01
