- Jessica Figueroa: Good morning, my favorite listeners. You are listening to the Just For Today podcast. My name is Cindy Marler. Today we are going to take some digital fasting time. That's right. 30 minutes to 60 minutes. That's what we're gonna start with. So think about the rest of your day and evening. I don't know what your day or evening looks like, but you do. And I want you to plan a 30 to 60 minute time where you're going to take your phone and you're gonna turn it off. You're not gonna leave it on, you're gonna turn it off. And you're gonna leave it and you're gonna set a timer somewhere else, not on your phone, obviously, for when this is done. And if you're like, ⁓ that's no problem, I leave my phone all the time. That's okay. I still want you to do it, even if you're good about putting your phone away, because there are so many times that we are just in the habit of bringing our phone, whether it's because of our Apple Pay or it's our timer, it's our music, when we really could get by without it and enjoy some freedom of our mind with the urges. The temptation it causes. So maybe you're just going for a walk and you're in the habit of bringing it. Try leaving it at home. Maybe you're running to the store to get something and you want to bring it because you use Apple Pay. Well, grab your grab your card out of your wallet. Leave the phone at home. You don't need it to go to the store. Why does this matter? Because our attention span is getting lower and lower and lower while our anxiety is getting higher and higher. So in order to increase our attention span and to lower anxiety, We need to remind ourselves that this device is not something we need because we think we do, but we don't. Because if we needed it, we would all be perishing before we had it. But life would go on without it. Life was on, went on before Apple Pay. It would go on if you didn't have it. So reminding ourselves that we are not dependent upon these things, these tools, we're not dependent upon them, lowers our anxiety. And it will increase our attention span because the phones alone decrease our attention span. I personally have noted this. I am an avid reader. And I used to be able to sit down for read to read and two or three hours would go by and just flew by. I didn't even realize and I was reading. I can't even about 45 minutes is my most before I need a break. And sometimes I'm embarrassed to say even half that because I'm on my phone a lot. I work a lot. I use it for music. I listen to things, audiobooks. So just for today, we're gonna take between 30 and 60 minutes. Turn our phone off, put it away and do something. That's it. Just turn it off, put it away and do something. And again, if you do that all the time, as far as you don't think about it, I still want you to do it again because I want us to find more times in our day to be intentional about putting our phone away and not using it. So this is going to create consciousness around a habit to grab our phone. I'm running the store and you bring your phone. ⁓ turn around. I forgot my phone. But did you need it? You know, even if they think, ⁓ you know, he left his phone. She left her phone. But she'll be right back. Okay. So today, just for today, put your phone away for 30 to 60 minutes, set a timer somewhere else. And when that timer's off, even if you want to leave it, leave it put away, that's fine. But just being aware of what 30 to 60 minutes felt like without being able to check it. All right. And on this, I want you to also go on your phone and see how many hours you average a day on your phone. I just want you to know that's it. Awareness is really the first step to solving any problem, is being aware. So just for today, guys, we are going to have a digital fast. I know you guys can do this because little by little these habits change our minds, shape our thinking, which changes our action and shapes our action. And then we get those little steps closer to where we really want to be. I believe in you guys. I'll see you tomorrow.
