- 0:05Hello Andrew. Welcome back to another episode
- 0:07of the Mindset Podcast. We're back.
- 0:10Charles. How you doing?
- 0:11I'm very good. I'm in the Christmas spirit.
- 0:13Are you? I am, yeah.
- 0:14I actually wasn't expecting that.
- 0:15Really. You kind of give me like, Bah
- 0:17humbug vibe sometimes. Oh no.
- 0:19Yeah, I can see why. I, I, I really love Christmas
- 0:23lights, like love Christmas lights, not that big into
- 0:25Christmas, but Christmas lights it's.
- 0:27Very Christmas, Yeah, actually got lights in the background, I
- 0:29think. Is this a you initiative or an
- 0:33Amy LED initiative? I was a bit both.
- 0:35This is definitely me. Is it initially me?
- 0:38I'm a mate. I had a grotto in my room when I
- 0:40was younger. I'm not actually afraid to admit
- 0:42it because it was that sick at the time.
- 0:45Didn't tell anyone at school obviously but in hindsight,
- 0:48unreal. I had fake like snow carpet on
- 0:51the ground. Oh my God.
- 0:52Like I had a bunk bed, but it was one of those bunk beds that
- 0:55had like a desk underneath and I like cordoned the whole thing
- 0:59off to look like the grotto sick.
- 1:02I don't need to comment any further.
- 1:03No, it's fortunate that I have, I have AI, have a girlfriend, so
- 1:06it's fine. I can say it.
- 1:09Anyway, we've just got off the back of High Rocks, London,
- 1:13which is going to be the main focus of today, but bigger
- 1:16things have happened in the sporting world over the week.
- 1:18I'll let you start. All I've got is the incredible
- 1:22Alex Yee running a 206 marathon in Valencia World.
- 1:27Is he? I mean, there's a lot of them,
- 1:29but is he the best endurance athlete in the world?
- 1:33You put me on the spot, I should have come prepared for this.
- 1:37He's definitely in the conversation.
- 1:38It depends what kind of metric you're using to test.
- 1:43If you're using triathlon as endurance sport, I don't know if
- 1:47know if he's ever done a long distance try.
- 1:49I'd be really interested. I'm sure that's the path he's
- 1:52taking himself. When you when you say long
- 1:53distance, certainly Iman, Yeah, Iman distance, yeah.
- 1:56Or 70.3. No, because he's he's he did the
- 1:59P-100 in London, I believe. Did he?
- 2:03No, he didn't win that. I don't know.
- 2:04Oh. No, he did the T100, but it
- 2:06wasn't the full distance. He did the Olympic distance
- 2:08T100. But yeah, like his, I'm
- 2:10surprised that his speciality is Olympic distance.
- 2:14If he's if he's so good at the long distance running, like you
- 2:17said, he might be working his way out to to the top level
- 2:21Olympic traffics do. I guess there's more publicity
- 2:24in and around that distance super try and Olympic distance,
- 2:28but a lot of the top Olympic distance triathletes when they
- 2:31retire from Olympic the the sport they go and then start
- 2:36like progressing down longer distance triathlon.
- 2:39But yeah, he ran 2 hours 6 something which puts him second
- 2:42on the all time list behind Mo Farah, who's on for Valencia
- 2:46specifically? No, for British record, which is
- 2:51like, I think Mo Farah is a 205. I'm not sure where he ran that,
- 2:55but he's not far off that at all.
- 2:57He's faster than Emil Keras, which is like a specific
- 3:00marathon runner. Like the the time is nuts.
- 3:03I mean, off the back of London when he ran his baby, I think
- 3:06this is only his second marathon as well.
- 3:07I was going to say, I think this is his second off the back.
- 3:09It's like baby marathon in London, which was also, I think
- 3:11it was 211. Incredible, right?
- 3:14People like lots of heads were turned.
- 3:16But yeah, he's, he's got honestly incredible capacity.
- 3:19Like it's a monumental feel. I would love to know and I, I
- 3:22believe he does have a YouTube channel, but I don't think he
- 3:24like vlogs. But I would, I would love to
- 3:26know how much he trained specifically for this marathon
- 3:31over like his triathlon because he's still in the triathlon
- 3:33season. So like he's still very much
- 3:35having to consider that and that's his career.
- 3:36That's what pays the bills. But also I'd be interested to
- 3:39know like what as an athlete gives you more room for higher
- 3:44pay? Is it doing running specifically
- 3:47because he's formerly from a 10K running back, so is he then
- 3:52considering making a move back towards running discipline and
- 3:54maybe going towards marathon if he's already running 2 or 6 on
- 3:57his second ever? Or is he looking to progress
- 4:01into the longer distance Try where you often get bigger
- 4:04sponsorships and you move around the world a bit more.
- 4:07Not necessarily move around the world a bit more, but like
- 4:10there's many more options of where to race.
- 4:12It's, it's interesting, isn't it?
- 4:13The, the thing that like springs to mind instantly.
- 4:16If you're in a sport where you're doing 3 different
- 4:18disciplines, you then can have opportunity for three times the
- 4:22amount of sponsorship probably. And you probably get more
- 4:26sponsorship deals because you're wearing sponsorship on your suit
- 4:30that you're racing in rather than I think in a in running,
- 4:33there's probably less scope for money.
- 4:36Yeah, I don't actually know. I'd be interested to know.
- 4:39Yeah. Because I, I think I'd argue
- 4:40that the running industry is probably the biggest of three
- 4:42though. So then there's also the scope
- 4:45for maybe higher pay, bigger brands, more brands, that kind
- 4:47of thing. But yeah, no.
- 4:48I don't know if there's cycling is is is huge, isn't it?
- 4:51But yeah, you're probably right. Worldwide, maybe running, but
- 4:54it's really interesting. Another fun fact is that my
- 4:57coach when I when I was doing 400 meters Max Colby, he's he
- 5:02was also a marathon runner. I was just scrolling through
- 5:05power of 10 to see the all time because I knew he'd be there
- 5:08somewhere. He's, I think like top 150
- 5:12marathoners of all time. He ran like 214 in Miami in like
- 5:16the 80s by a proper serious marathon runner, which is really
- 5:19cool that he's still there like 30 years later or whatever it is
- 5:22four years later. Actually, then someone else
- 5:23that's that's worth a mention from this weekend, a man that
- 5:28has blown up from the beginning of this year on social media,
- 5:32Hugo Fry. Did you say you ran a 217
- 5:35marathon this weekend? And yeah, just.
- 5:38Well, there was a couple of things that was crazy about it.
- 5:40Obviously he's been doing quite a few races this season.
- 5:43He's probably overloaded his calendar.
- 5:45And then he went and did the three the night thing with BPN
- 5:48and, and that was only what, 4 weeks ago.
- 5:51And then he's come in and he ran 219 I think in Berlin, which was
- 5:55his best time and didn't understand how he did that on
- 5:58the day where, you know, it was hot and everyone else didn't get
- 6:00their times. And then he's gone into this and
- 6:04ran a 217. But was almost more impressive
- 6:06about that. I had AII actually read what he
- 6:09wrote about the race because it was a qualification race for a
- 6:14lot of the US guys. He was running most of the race
- 6:17on his own. So he didn't have the benefit of
- 6:19a pact to pace him or to help arrow wise.
- 6:21But he was just on his own for for most of it.
- 6:25Which is even more mental because, yeah, I mean, I don't
- 6:27even know what pace it is to be running that, but it's like very
- 6:30low threes. Yeah, you have to be different
- 6:31type of psycho. Yeah.
- 6:33Like, honestly, it's it's incredible.
- 6:34Like the capacity of all of these fast marathon runners,
- 6:36like blows my mind. The best thing about him,
- 6:38though, specifically is like all I see on his social media is I'm
- 6:41going, yeah, this is an ideal prep.
- 6:43I wouldn't recommend this. I wouldn't do it.
- 6:45I'm doing way too much. And like he's, I don't know how
- 6:47his body copes. But you know, what's been quite
- 6:49healthy about that is for me, and I'm not saying that he has
- 6:53directly influenced me as an influencer now, but I with my
- 6:58own training and care, I'm really not sweating the small
- 7:02stuff anymore. Yeah, yeah, I can safely say
- 7:05that that my prep for High Rocks London was so below par and it
- 7:10got bad enough I, I decided that the, the week before I, I didn't
- 7:15care. I didn't really taper.
- 7:17I just sort of didn't work out as much or as hard.
- 7:21And then with regard to fuelling, I just ate what I ate.
- 7:27I think you can get away with it though with high rocks it's such
- 7:28a short. Event, that's the thing and I
- 7:30think I think a lot of people kind of jump on the trend of
- 7:34it's an endurance event and I think maybe to begin with, even
- 7:37when I started, everyone was looking at it as an endurance
- 7:39event. You train like it's an endurance
- 7:40discipline. But I think because the times
- 7:43are getting so much faster now, we're starting to realize
- 7:46actually it's not that at all. It's almost in like 10K
- 7:50intensity territory and like that's how people assign an.
- 7:54Early cry in my gear coming in. It's like how people still carb
- 7:56loading for those. Yeah, you.
- 7:57Won't be carb loading like we've done enough podcasts on the
- 8:01science of it. You don't need to be carb yes,
- 8:03you need to be eating a good carby meal before you do it, but
- 8:06you don't need to be considering yeah, you can up your carbs
- 8:09probably a little bit, but I wouldn't consider it carb
- 8:11loading like it is mental that I still still see people doing
- 8:14that but we're getting ahead of ourselves obviously.
- 8:16Coming back to High rocks, the next thing I want to talk about
- 8:18was the Formula One because the Formula One season ended this
- 8:21weekend and I was guided again. I was busy working at High
- 8:26Rocks, but the tee up for this final race, it was it was almost
- 8:32as good as a few years ago when it was like Lewis versus Max.
- 8:35That's a level. But for those that need a little
- 8:37bit more context, maybe only watch Drive to Survive.
- 8:41It's going to be a great season because you've got Piastry and
- 8:44Norris both driving for McLaren, who have won the constructors
- 8:47championship. Then you've got Max Verstappen
- 8:49who's been the undefeated world champion for the last like 4
- 8:52years I think driving for Red Bull, who has had zero help from
- 8:56Sonoda all year and is being replaced.
- 8:59But just just for context as well, I think Red Bull this year
- 9:03scored 470 something points in the constructors championship,
- 9:08423 of those were Max. So that's pretty wild.
- 9:12But I'd like to see the the stats on.
- 9:14Has there been a driver who's finished as high as Max has and
- 9:21the the like the difference between their points and their
- 9:23their part? Yeah, I don't think so.
- 9:27Yeah, that's a good point to look into.
- 9:28I doubt it's ever happened then, as a result of how it was all
- 9:33set up. If Lando Norris had come
- 9:36anything lower than 4th and Max Verstappen won, then Max
- 9:42Verstappen would be world champion.
- 9:43If Max didn't finish then Norris would stay world champion as
- 9:49long as he finished the race and Piastry didn't do anything
- 9:51mental. I think Piastry needed like 6
- 9:54points or something if Norris didn't finish as well.
- 9:56So Piastry basically would only really win if the other two
- 10:00didn't finish. Verstappen needed to win and
- 10:03needed Norris to not come anything higher than fourth.
- 10:06The way that it ended up happening, Norris did the job
- 10:09that he got over the line. He became world champion for the
- 10:11first time. What was also lovely is that Max
- 10:14was really happy for him. That was huge.
- 10:16We've definitely seen some maturing in Max this season, I
- 10:18feel like. I don't know if like I, I've
- 10:21never been the biggest Max Verstappen fan, but what I did
- 10:24like with him was he was just like unapologetically himself.
- 10:27And he's like, I, you see all of the best world champions,
- 10:31whatever sport it is, especially in when it's a solo sport like
- 10:35tennis or golf or F1, they have this like air of superiority
- 10:40about themselves, which they create themselves.
- 10:43So it's like almost arrogant to the point where it's like a bit
- 10:46grating because you're like their personalities too much.
- 10:49And that was always Max. And he was like, I'm
- 10:51unapologetic to me and I'm going to win and I don't care how I
- 10:54win. It doesn't matter.
- 10:55I'm going to be the winner. And I feel like there's been a
- 10:57little bit of a shift this year and he's been a bit like, and if
- 11:01I don't win, it's not going to change my life.
- 11:03I think what? Have you seen those interviews
- 11:05where you said those things? And I'm like, come on, man.
- 11:07It is. No, but I think, I think the
- 11:08thing that's interesting about that is I feel like if he hadn't
- 11:11won a world championship then he probably would still be like
- 11:14that. But now he's won.
- 11:15But then for me it's like, well, you're clearly just motivated by
- 11:20money and sponsorships and it's not about the winning for you.
- 11:23You've you've got to see you've, you've been world champion X
- 11:26amount of times. Do you really care?
- 11:27I think there's I think there's a level of understanding from
- 11:33the current season though in and he had it a bit last year with
- 11:36Sergio Perez. But if he has got zero help and
- 11:40he's there's only so much he can do.
- 11:42Look at what he's done. He know how he's had an amazing
- 11:44like he actually couldn't have done any more than he did with
- 11:48the car with the car he had the support he had and the team he
- 11:51around him he had. Don't forget, like it's quite a
- 11:54big deal when you're the head of your team gets fired halfway
- 11:58through our season. And he's just persevered and
- 12:00continue to deliver better results of anything.
- 12:03Like there's not much more he can do.
- 12:05And I wonder if it got to that point where he was like, OK,
- 12:08well, I'm still going to drive the best I can, but everything
- 12:10else is out of my control. And I wonder, I mean, anything
- 12:13else, I can't do anything. I get what you're saying.
- 12:16Fair enough, but. Now I have seen him in a
- 12:19different like this season, I don't I'd like him a bit more.
- 12:21Yeah, for sure. One thing that's not been great
- 12:24this season, I'm really worried about Lewis Hamilton, really
- 12:28worried. And what made me really sad is
- 12:30he made a post about he was one of the races a few weeks ago and
- 12:36someone was like, don't forget who you are.
- 12:37Like someone from the crowd said that.
- 12:39And he was like, I really needed that fuck.
- 12:41Like he's in D and like he's been qualified terribly.
- 12:44He's he actually had the best drive this race.
- 12:46I don't know if you knew that he he went from like 18th to I
- 12:50think 6th or 7th, which is really still got it.
- 12:53So he's still very much got it. But like, he just needs to
- 12:55figure. It's a shame really.
- 12:57I love the fact that he is driving for Ferrari now.
- 12:59That's always been like a dream for him.
- 13:00And like he good, he looks good in red.
- 13:03But yeah, I feel like the the however many years ago, it was
- 13:072-3 years ago when he he got picked by Verstappen in the last
- 13:11race, if he'd won that, I reckon that was him retiring.
- 13:14He's just like walking away from the sport.
- 13:16But same for him, like he now with the car that he had and the
- 13:20team that he had, he he knew he wasn't going to become world
- 13:23champion very early on in the season off the back of a poor
- 13:27season with with Mercedes as well.
- 13:29So it was just like, I feel like the motivation for him to win
- 13:32and prove himself isn't there anymore because he already knows
- 13:35how good he is. Everyone else knows how good he
- 13:36is. So it's kind of like AI don't
- 13:38know. But yeah, it's been a shame for
- 13:40him he hasn't been able to perform this one of the.
- 13:42Things I am very much looking forward to though, especially
- 13:45from a drive to survive perspective because of how they,
- 13:47you know, ramp up the draft. I hope they have been following
- 13:50Carlos Sainz this season because there have been interviews as
- 13:53well where they've said like, are you happy?
- 13:57I mean, you've broken your promise about not being on a
- 13:59podium this year for Williams. And he's been on a podium.
- 14:01And he sat there, I think he got asked cheekily like a couple of
- 14:05weeks ago, are you happy about what's happened with Ferrari?
- 14:08And he just like doesn't say anything and burst out laughing.
- 14:12Which is really cool. So I hope they're feeling now,
- 14:14deep down, all the drivers do have a lot of respect for each
- 14:16other. And there, there are some good
- 14:17friendships there. But on like, at face value, they
- 14:19don't want to. They don't want to show that,
- 14:21Yeah. And they are like competitors at
- 14:23heart. But yeah, Williams has done well
- 14:26this season. Yeah, they've got a good
- 14:28partnership. Alban and Science are good good
- 14:30good 2 drivers. Well, I mean, the team's
- 14:33redirection has them set for very big success in the next few
- 14:36years. I'm sure every team does have
- 14:38the same thing behind the scenes.
- 14:39But like what they're actioning and who they've brought in to
- 14:42help them and those two drivers, that's a great line up big time.
- 14:44And, and I mean, even in the engineering team, a lot of them
- 14:47have come from former world championship teams, whether that
- 14:50be Red Bull or Mercedes. So they're recruiting the right
- 14:52people. And there it is.
- 14:53Is Adrian Newey? Is he going to be the the new
- 14:56head of Aston Martin? Did I see that?
- 14:59Well, yeah, he's going to be coming in as the head designer,
- 15:02in fact. Or was he not team principal?
- 15:04I don't know what he thought but I I don't want to chat my ass
- 15:08and say that you're wrong, but I was actually under the
- 15:11impression that I don't know if that's starting next season or
- 15:14if it already started. Oh, I don't.
- 15:16Know he might be. He might not have developed this
- 15:18season's Aston Martin. Well, yeah, he might be
- 15:20developing next season with Aston Martin, but I thought he
- 15:22developed the original. Model.
- 15:23Maybe I read that wrong. But I think he will be from next
- 15:26season like all in anyway. One of the most important things
- 15:30I want to talk about Landon Norris's win.
- 15:33Have you seen the clips online of his monster can?
- 15:36No. So Lando's Monster Energy
- 15:40flavour is somewhat questionable.
- 15:42I don't hate it, I don't love it, but some clips started going
- 15:47round of him drinking it after the race and really not enjoying
- 15:50it. Like really not enjoying it.
- 15:51Like genuinely takes a sip and really like kicks back.
- 15:56But then what became apparent and someone ended up asking him
- 16:01in an interview was is it just monster in that?
- 16:04Oh, someone's put something else in that.
- 16:05Yeah, yeah, yeah. He very explicitly says that
- 16:09there's a lot more in that. There's a lot more in that camp
- 16:12and then there's no mods. Yeah, no, not at all.
- 16:16I'm pretty sure it was straight vodka, the kickback.
- 16:18But there's clips when they obviously get their big end of
- 16:21season team photo in front of the cars and he takes a swig and
- 16:24I don't know what they've put in it this time, but it's a full
- 16:26on. I double that.
- 16:28Like he's done sniffing swords or something.
- 16:30So good. But I love that that's still
- 16:32like. I'm sure Modern, yeah.
- 16:36Well, you know what is it still published?
- 16:38Any publicity is good publicity anyway.
- 16:41Let's let's get into it then. So high rocks, London, the
- 16:45biggest high rocks ever ever 40,000 athletes asterisk I'm
- 16:52going to put because I know multiple people that race
- 16:54multiple times and I think they don't count.
- 16:56That Oh, really? You think they double?
- 16:58Yeah, Yeah, they for sure double.
- 16:59Yeah, for sure. There's 40,000 race entries.
- 17:01Well, it's about 40,000 racist races.
- 17:04Didn't actually. Happen.
- 17:05There's lots of people race like over twice.
- 17:07Yeah, so positives course was huge, which was also a negative
- 17:12for getting around, but it was a one lap course with the
- 17:17Rockstone built into the run, which is confusing in itself
- 17:20when you're looking, you're confusing but very enjoyable to
- 17:23race. When I from the, the mental
- 17:25perspective of if I compare it to like Cardiff, which I know
- 17:28you did, where you basically run 4 laps every time.
- 17:31When I, I remember very distinctly in Cardiff being like
- 17:34done the lunges, I've got one run to go and it was like I've
- 17:38got 4 laps to go. I this time I'd done lunges and
- 17:41I was like, I've got two runs to go 2 laps, that's so good.
- 17:46And then coming on to the last run, like you can gas the last
- 17:49run, because I I think the actual main straight down the
- 17:55back, that's not the rock zone. I think that was like 404 fifty
- 17:59meters long, which is so nice to run in a straight line.
- 18:01It's actually ridiculous that that was done inside because
- 18:04that's not only the it's the first time that's had a one
- 18:07lapper in the UK, but it's the first time they've had a
- 18:10kilometer run indoors in Europe because the other one K loops
- 18:14like Rome and Berlin, they go outside.
- 18:17So like you said it, the scale walking in and I was only a
- 18:20city. I've been to lots of high rocks
- 18:22events, but I walked in and I was just like almost speechless,
- 18:26like taken aback. How big it was like ridiculous
- 18:29walking in there on Thursday. The the venue was wild.
- 18:32But like you say, the there were positives.
- 18:35There were negatives. The fact that it was so busy at
- 18:39some points the course was like from inside fast lane to outside
- 18:44lane, just like Rand as far as the I could see like this.
- 18:49I don't know how people raced in in in that busyness.
- 18:51So in my race there. You were Thursday, I think it
- 18:55was. Thursday was probably the least
- 18:57busy it. Was the least busy in terms of
- 18:58spectators but my wave we went off in the first wave sub flex
- 19:0375. Pairs. 80 8 so so 160 people in
- 19:07this tunnel. In, in a wave.
- 19:08In one wave. Yeah, that.
- 19:09That's mind blow. So it was, it was mental and.
- 19:13Basically everyone I knew was in that heat.
- 19:14Yeah, so, so I think we we've discussed this loads of times
- 19:19before about my technique of like waiting at the back of the
- 19:20tunnel and then going that wasn't, I've since been that
- 19:25off. But we got there and I looked at
- 19:29the sea of 160 and I was like, I don't want to be in the middle
- 19:32of that. No, like there will be people
- 19:33that went into the wave early that are much slower than the
- 19:36rest of them. There will also be a lot of
- 19:37people behind us that will go off way too hot.
- 19:40I knew we weren't going to be slow.
- 19:42So I was like, we we just don't want to get fucked up by people
- 19:45that were ahead of us that are too slow and people that are
- 19:47behind us, they're going to go too fast.
- 19:49So I said to my double s partner Emily, I was like, let's just
- 19:54wait. So we waited and again, we had
- 19:57the nice thing of just like taking people off as we went
- 20:00past them. But no, it was in terms of
- 20:03racing it as well. The the course makes a lot of
- 20:05sense in terms of station 1, Station two.
- 20:07Yeah, that will be in order. Yeah.
- 20:09That was that was really good. So I'm, I'm here for.
- 20:12I would love that to be the new norm.
- 20:13And I hope that the exile is the same again next year.
- 20:17I hope that they move away from Olympia, which is just always
- 20:21notoriously the most random course.
- 20:22Yeah. I'd be interested to know
- 20:25because like for me that that was the limit for how many
- 20:30people they could have racing if they started squeezing more and
- 20:33more people in. Unless they build heats earlier
- 20:36or build, build heats later, there's just, there's no way
- 20:40they can cram more people in. And I'm sure you'll talk about
- 20:42it as well, like people stopping for the warbles and having to
- 20:45queue. Like there's a there's a problem
- 20:47there with overcrowding and not enough equipment.
- 20:49So I don't know how they grow it and it's like in a couple of
- 20:52years time, does London High Rocks excel?
- 20:56Do they have two sides? I was actually going to say A
- 20:58course and B course and B course.
- 21:00And like then you can have 80,000 people running and then
- 21:02then then you start to see the scalability.
- 21:04But it's, it's wild. So I'm going to ask you a
- 21:07question. How many were there more people
- 21:10racing London High Rocks just gone?
- 21:13Or were there more people racing the London Marathon in April?
- 21:20Because when I found out the numbers, I was like, I was
- 21:22slightly shocked. I I reckon there were probably
- 21:26more people running the London Marathon, but only correct.
- 21:29Yeah, like, yeah, yeah, within like four or five.
- 21:31Thousand. Yeah, yes, I have a really good
- 21:32guess. So I think London Marathon, I
- 21:34don't know the numbers accurately enough to really
- 21:36quote them, but it was like 50 odd thousand, Yeah.
- 21:39So it's like only 10,000 more people.
- 21:41Yeah. Which is just like bonkers to
- 21:43think like how popular running is, how popular marathon running
- 21:47is, how popular the London Marathon.
- 21:50And then there's London High Rocks, where there's 40,000
- 21:53people. Yeah.
- 21:54Which is just like, and, and then we're trying to do some
- 21:56like really crude maths as well on like how much money they're
- 21:59making, how many spectators there were as well.
- 22:02I I don't buy. Individual tickets Individual is
- 22:05up before but like I imagine the venue hire is absurd, especially
- 22:08to take up a whole hardly excel but.
- 22:10It's relative to how much they're making.
- 22:11Every single ticket is if we said on average, because relays
- 22:15are slightly cheaper, but if we said every single ticket, if you
- 22:17don't buy the flex option and everything like that, let's call
- 22:20it £120. Sure.
- 22:21So they make £120 off every person in ticket sales.
- 22:25Then they don't pay any of the judges anything because they
- 22:27just get free tickets. You've got basically most of
- 22:29your staff working for free. I know that some staff are more
- 22:32expensive than others in terms of the announcers, media crew,
- 22:35everything like that. But it's like drop in the sea.
- 22:37Yeah, I, I would reckon that they're probably making on a, on
- 22:44a weekend like that couple million minimum.
- 22:47Yeah, I think I worked it out. How many?
- 22:49In spectator tickets. I think I worked it out in
- 22:51Glasgow this year because Glasgow was a five day event
- 22:54which previously was the biggest 20,000 people and I'd worked out
- 22:57that they easily made 2,000,000 without any of the sponsors
- 23:00doing like paying anything. Yeah.
- 23:03And like the sponsors will pay. Yeah.
- 23:05So yeah, it's. All the sponsors are covering
- 23:08something. That's what I mean.
- 23:09The sponsor, the sponsors. Alone may well be covering the
- 23:12venue high and then all you're paying for is a few members of
- 23:16staff to turn up. It's it's crazy.
- 23:19But on what you said about the amount of equipment, generally
- 23:22they did a really good job. We know from planning our SIM
- 23:26which we'll come back to the contingency and you don't get
- 23:31stacking early on like that's controlled.
- 23:34It goes to shit later on in the race because people like their
- 23:38races fall apart and then you get the fast people to catch up
- 23:41with those. You basically need double the
- 23:45amount of wooble spaces as you need skiers because you need to
- 23:49prepare for the fact that you're going to have double.
- 23:51The skier. Great.
- 23:52Yeah, like you say. And I think that that's one of
- 23:56the issues though is having that amount of infrastructure and
- 23:59preparing that amount of judges is nonsensical because for 90%
- 24:02of the time, that's not going to be a problem.
- 24:04It's just the 10% of the time that it is.
- 24:06And I think one of the things that's really difficult, and I
- 24:08discussed this with my double S partner, was with the solution
- 24:12that they currently have, which is they put you in a pen and a
- 24:15lot of people get concerned because they're like, well, my
- 24:17time is going to be massive. The pen is set up like it's
- 24:20another station. So you cross a mat on the floor
- 24:22and your chip stops. And then when you get told where
- 24:24to run, your chip starts again. So like they do cover that and
- 24:28that time comes off. However, that's unfair because
- 24:33what I would have done and what I told my partner was if we're
- 24:36in that, for whatever reason, we're letting everyone go ahead
- 24:38of us. Get as much rest as.
- 24:39Possible. As much rest as possible.
- 24:40We'll come out, we'll smash 100 wool bulls, I'll get my Red Bull
- 24:43patch and we'll go that. That shouldn't be a thing.
- 24:47But for me, I'm like, I get what you're saying and I saw lots of
- 24:51people posting about it. I would be, I get the, the idea
- 24:55that you can, it's unfair because you're getting some rest
- 24:57and as a result you can probably push hard on the warbles.
- 25:00But for me, I'm just like, it's less about that and it's, it's
- 25:02ruined my actual authentic time because it's not Hyrox then
- 25:08because it's Hyrox plus an interval at the end because
- 25:11you've got some added rest. So I can, I, I, I fully
- 25:14understand why people are upset about that.
- 25:15And there should have been, I think the way they handled it
- 25:18was, was good. They had that plan just in case.
- 25:21But that should never have happened in the 1st place and,
- 25:24and never have happened to the extent it happened.
- 25:26And they should have learned. I know for Berlin, it was, it
- 25:28was because of the weather, but they should have had a
- 25:31contingency because of the weather anyway.
- 25:32And I think over the course of the next couple of days in
- 25:34Berlin, they covered the warble stations to make sure that that
- 25:39that wasn't a problem like that was caused by weather.
- 25:41They didn't have weather issues inside in the Excel.
- 25:44So it's like you're, you're planning for 40,000 athletes.
- 25:48How have you not thought of this?
- 25:50And it's like. Interesting point here.
- 25:56Cool. I just, I basically come up with
- 25:57this idea on the spot. OK in an Iron Man Yeah.
- 26:01And you have cut off times. Yeah, interesting.
- 26:06You consider having cut off times.
- 26:07So like by you need to have done the burpees within an hour and
- 26:11if not, unfortunately like you're unable to carry on.
- 26:13Yeah, you get pulled off the course.
- 26:15I think that was a bit savage for an event that is supposedly
- 26:18open to all the public. The only thing is if we are
- 26:20talking about here, it's a huge, massive what if scenario if you
- 26:24had both sides of the XL and you had like 1 is open and one is
- 26:29pro as different sides. And then you have a cut off for
- 26:33the pro because maybe like having cut off for the pro makes
- 26:36sense. Yeah.
- 26:38And then for the open, there's no and it's just lighter weight
- 26:41and and whatever. Maybe that's the way to.
- 26:43I think like I think it is moving in the right direction.
- 26:46I think making the switch towards you can only qualify for
- 26:49World champs off the back of racing pro.
- 26:51Like that was as in originally a stupid idea that you could
- 26:55qualify without racing Pro and then go to world Champs and have
- 26:58to race pro. So I like that that's and I like
- 27:01that maybe the pro division starts to become a little bit
- 27:04more like the elite level and open is, like you said, a bit
- 27:08more accessible. But like, I don't want to sit
- 27:10here and question the event organization because the high
- 27:13rocks always do 99% of the time a really amazing job.
- 27:19And the scale that they're dealing with and the growth that
- 27:22they've dealt with over the last couple of years, like you can't
- 27:24knock that they're doing their best and they're they're
- 27:27probably clutching at straws to kind of get everything together
- 27:30with the scale of their operation and the guys who are
- 27:33running it like they're super smart.
- 27:34They all have experience in hosting marathons or doing Iron
- 27:38Man events, that kind of thing. So like they obviously know what
- 27:41they're doing and it's in, it's if it's still in its infancy and
- 27:44it's still teething. So like the fact that we got to
- 27:46go and see the event in London is kind of cool.
- 27:49I've got FOMO that I didn't actually race by.
- 27:51I think next year it will be like it'll be the next biggest
- 27:54one. Like I don't know why the UK
- 27:55races are so competitive and so popular.
- 27:59I don't, yeah, I don't know over other nations why that's the
- 28:02case. So like all of like Birmingham's
- 28:04always super competitive, Manchester's super competitive,
- 28:07Glasgow's competitive, one of the biggest events as well.
- 28:09Like all over the UK, they're hosting like the biggest events.
- 28:13Yeah. No, no, it's very true.
- 28:16As a quick run through of of our race, first main take away we
- 28:21spoke about in the last episode, I didn't get wrapped out so
- 28:25pretty gassed. Congratulations.
- 28:27Thank you annoyance of our which was completely undeserved.
- 28:32We spoke about the, the whole like race prep thing.
- 28:35I I think there is an element of me just not thinking I'm as fit
- 28:38as I probably AM, and I've been there's the.
- 28:41Or there's a comparison somewhere.
- 28:43Yeah, there's there's the classic thing of like
- 28:45consistency beats anything else. And I think in there's an
- 28:50element of race experience is a massive helper in this.
- 28:53I don't think with the level of fitness I currently have, if we
- 28:55look at a year ago I'd have been able to do that, but I've raced
- 28:59like 10 times since then, so I know where to push, I know when
- 29:01to not push. That's like, invaluable.
- 29:03Experience and then on top of the fact that I don't
- 29:09necessarily feel like I've been doing crazy training, I haven't
- 29:12really missed much training. Like even when I've had to
- 29:15adjust training, I've still trained.
- 29:17And I think I've probably been far more true to that than I was
- 29:21maybe last year where I was doing all the hard sessions, but
- 29:24not necessarily doing the bits in between that were needed.
- 29:26I've been doing like the really honest work and that clearly
- 29:29pays off. Yeah.
- 29:31But in terms of like our race strategy, I said like we started
- 29:34the back and then we basically could just, you could run the
- 29:39runtime you wanted because you knew how far you have to run,
- 29:42which was really helpful as well.
- 29:44And pacing wise, just stayed below that, like Red Line the
- 29:48whole time. And then on the stations, I know
- 29:52having filmed Emily race quite a lot, I know where her strengths
- 29:55are, like, so I know when I can push her and when.
- 29:58Probably not. So very early on, the ski of
- 30:01strategy was fine, all good sled push.
- 30:05We'd agreed to basically do 5050.
- 30:06I'd do slightly more of each length, but yeah.
- 30:09And my thinking was she's more conditioned for the compromised
- 30:11running, so she'll finish it. We did the first 3.
- 30:15She was like, I'm not doing the last length.
- 30:17And I was like, yeah, cool. That's on me.
- 30:19So, so we survived that and then coming in to the sled pool, she
- 30:23was like, oh, I feel bad for doing that to you.
- 30:27Don't worry about doing the first length of sled pool on
- 30:29your own, which was the plan. And I was like, now this is my
- 30:32thing. Like I, I like this one.
- 30:34I'm doing it. So we did that, did the first
- 30:36one on my own and then we split the rest.
- 30:38Burpees. This is where she comes out.
- 30:40Please carry me. So I was like, you do 10 for
- 30:42every five that I do. And I think she ended up, she
- 30:46was like, I think I've done 13. And I was like, OK, cool.
- 30:51I think I only did like three sets of five the whole time,
- 30:53maybe four sets of five. But some I actually don't know
- 30:57who it was. Someone was watching and was
- 30:58like, I guess you don't look bad doing burpees when you only do
- 31:015. And I was like, sick.
- 31:03This is what that's what I. Needed.
- 31:05Yeah, this is what I think. Now I'm never doing more than
- 31:06five. And then like after that, what
- 31:10else happened? That's such a backhand conflict.
- 31:12Yeah, I know. But I was actually really happy.
- 31:14I was like, oh, I look. Good.
- 31:15Wow. Surprising, yeah.
- 31:18Row we chilled, like really really chilled.
- 31:21Was happy about that. Emily slightly mugged me off by
- 31:24getting off the roll well before she was supposed to be done.
- 31:27But whatever is what it is. I however had my first time
- 31:31having a gel and it not sitting right and I felt violently I'll
- 31:37coming off their own machine and there's a lot.
- 31:38You can do about. That there's nothing, there's
- 31:40nothing. And The thing is you're racing,
- 31:41so it's like you have to keep running fast.
- 31:44But halfway around the next run it started eventually started to
- 31:47clear and I got the second win that I needed.
- 31:49Farmers carry. We didn't go, it didn't go to
- 31:53like the original plan and no difference in the time.
- 31:56Sort of expected. Lunges is probably Emily's best
- 32:00thing is, which is great because it's definitely one of my worst
- 32:03things. So she started to finish that.
- 32:05But this was something. And if you are a client of mine,
- 32:09you got the same benefit from what I figured out while we were
- 32:12racing, which is on the lunges with the course, the lunge bag
- 32:17was back against the grain of the rock.
- 32:19So and the rocks out of the lunges was like 5 meters the
- 32:23other way. So I gave Emily the bag with
- 32:26about 5 meters left of lunges and then I immediately just
- 32:29started walking to the rocks out, which when she had to run
- 32:33the other way after finishing and they catch me back up.
- 32:36But because I had walked, I'm obviously not going to cross the
- 32:39out of the rocks out because then we get a penalty if it was
- 32:41too far between. But I got about 20 to 25 seconds
- 32:45walking rest while she was fine because I'd done the bulk of the
- 32:49lunges towards the end I was feeling great.
- 32:52So we absolutely sent the last run and then the wobbles.
- 32:55I said to her like I'm coming in and I will only be able to do 10
- 32:58or 15 is how hard I want to run DIF 15.
- 33:01And then we basically just chipped to it until we were done
- 33:03and. Wobbles is always fine in a
- 33:05double S isn't it? Because it's just like.
- 33:07I think if you're quite, if you're going for a time with any
- 33:11double s when you are coming into the wool wools, you know if
- 33:14you've got your time or not because like it's only going to
- 33:16be 32nd difference Max from from whatever you think.
- 33:20But we genuinely didn't know. Like we'd love to have gone so
- 33:24far, but near us actually said it before the race because we
- 33:28weren't that bothered. But when we came off the lunges,
- 33:31we ran out the rocks and I said to Emily, like, what time are we
- 33:34on? But I didn't, I didn't know I'd
- 33:35ruin my watch. And she was like, I think we're
- 33:38on 51. And I was like, oh shit.
- 33:41Like it's not even like always on.
- 33:44It's like it's kind of on. Like.
- 33:46We're going to have to go. It's the one where you don't,
- 33:49you don't want to hear that. Yeah.
- 33:51It's like you. It's either really on or it's
- 33:52really off. We didn't speak until we crossed
- 33:55the line and all I heard for that last run was behind me and
- 34:00I got about halfway around that run.
- 34:02I have, I have gone off this run too hot.
- 34:05And then I, yeah, fortunately managed to hold it together.
- 34:08But yeah, so we did it. It was really good.
- 34:10It was probably the most calm I felt in a race and the most
- 34:15like, relaxed and yeah, enjoyable.
- 34:18It's, it seems honestly like when I raced in Birmingham, I
- 34:21was just chilling and I had such a good time and run the best
- 34:24time I've ever run. But I, what I wanted to say was
- 34:27also like, you had a plan, plan A and then you also then had to
- 34:33adapt and, and be fluid and have like a Plan B because shit will
- 34:37naturally happen. And like that's the best thing
- 34:40in in double S. When I was in Birmingham on the
- 34:42sandbag lunges, I started going and my partner behind me sauce.
- 34:46All I could hear was like, yeah, go on, you're doing great and
- 34:49I'm lunging. I'm lunging.
- 34:50I'm like, well, I'm still lunging.
- 34:51I'm like, I reckon she's going to take the bag anyway.
- 34:54All I'm here is that you're doing so good.
- 34:55I'm like, that doesn't sound like the kind of person who's
- 34:58going to take the bag off me. So I'm like, I'm, I'm someone
- 35:01take the bag. It's really funny.
- 35:03Like you say, when when Emily jumps off the rower, you're
- 35:05like, bro, what the fuck? Yeah, I don't want to do that.
- 35:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or like I was rowing as well in
- 35:11Birmingham. I'm like, I'm kind of tired.
- 35:12I'm just going to get off. So what?
- 35:15What are you going to do about it?
- 35:16But genuinely, like if, if, if you're a person that somehow
- 35:19listens to this podcast without having done a high work before,
- 35:22I thoroughly recommend doing a double s first because it is
- 35:24quite a lot of fun. You don't necessarily have to
- 35:25put the pressure of getting a certain time on or whatever, but
- 35:28also like you can have a massive disparity in fitness and still
- 35:31do quite well. Yeah, I, and there was a few
- 35:33double s that I filmed this weekend where it was there one
- 35:36of them's first time and one of them done like 10.
- 35:39And they still for a first time, their friends will be looking at
- 35:42them like, how did they get that time?
- 35:43And like, they got carried, but they still did their bit and
- 35:47they still had a good time. You still had to do all the
- 35:48running. Exactly.
- 35:49That's the big thing. So yeah, no, I, I really enjoyed
- 35:52it. I kind of got FOMO.
- 35:54I really wish I could race again while I was there.
- 35:56But it has definitely given a sprinkling of the bug back to
- 35:59us. Yeah.
- 36:00Which I really need. Yeah, I really need, yeah.
- 36:02Off the back of that, I'm just so motivated now to go and race
- 36:05again and get some faster. Times very, very motivated to
- 36:08find places that people don't know about because the times are
- 36:11absurd and this is something you actually wanted to mention the
- 36:15top 15. Top 15 pro double S men top 15
- 36:19times were all sub 53 minutes. Like London specifically as
- 36:23well. That's just a joke, like an
- 36:25actual joke. Yeah, like the top time sub 50
- 36:28like it. And that's not uncommon now, no,
- 36:30for pro double S men's in my heat in Birmingham, Jake and
- 36:34Charlie ran sub 50 and I'm just like, it's just mental that
- 36:38that's the new norm. Whereas you look at the at the
- 36:40back of last season, still running sub hour people like,
- 36:44yeah, that's really respectable and like getting under 58 and
- 36:47closer to down like 56 event. These are really fast times.
- 36:52But now if you're not running sub 5655 for pro men, men's
- 36:55double S people are like, yeah, there's there's no room for you
- 36:59in the chat. So it's like the the level of
- 37:04performance in these events have has like really skyrocketed
- 37:08recently. And I think that's just
- 37:10testament to the fact that more people are doing the sport and
- 37:13more people are getting into it from a better performance
- 37:17background. Yeah.
- 37:18Shows like, was it Luke Greer? Is that his name?
- 37:20Yeah. Luke Greer won the men's pro,
- 37:22which announced British record. I'd not heard of him before.
- 37:26No, but he, yeah, he came in, beat a lot of relatively well
- 37:30known names that were then on in the early fifteens.
- 37:31They're not in Australia because the next major race is.
- 37:35This weekend, This weekend coming.
- 37:37And so yeah, it's, you still get new names pop up and you still
- 37:40get new speeds. But interestingly.
- 37:42Continue to happen. Luke Luke Greer was this is some
- 37:45insider knowledge for the big race in Birmingham where it was
- 37:49Jake Williamson, Jake did and Charlie Watchwell all in that
- 37:52heat. Luke Greer was in that heat and
- 37:55for those people that were there, they'll know about this.
- 37:59But for those that won't, those three well known names in the
- 38:03sport went out hot, like fast. And I was watching him go around
- 38:08with a smile on my face. I was like, this is going to be
- 38:10sick. I'm filming Charlie, so I'm by
- 38:13ski number one waiting for him because I know he's at the front
- 38:16of those three. This skinny runner dude just
- 38:20runs down. Charlie's not inside.
- 38:23And that's the classic like everyone's look at each other
- 38:24like he's gone too fast. This is first time.
- 38:27Goes into so push comes out so push first goes into sled pool.
- 38:31Now he starts to get caught up. But he I was talking to him
- 38:35after the race with Charlie and he was like, I knew you guys
- 38:37were going to get me on those stations and just had to get.
- 38:40But even by the burpees, he pulled it back because his
- 38:42running was so good yeah and I can't remember what time he
- 38:44managed to get in Birmingham, but he really wasn't far off.
- 38:46But the limelight was so heavily on Jake did and and Charlie,
- 38:49because they were so close at the end, yeah, everyone kind of
- 38:52forgot about him. But those guys.
- 38:54And other names like Sean Noble ran really well in Birmingham
- 38:57all. Those names are off in Sydney
- 38:59now. Yeah.
- 38:59So he got to come in in and just run his race on A1 lap course
- 39:02for which is great for running and there he goes and sets a
- 39:05British record and also really incredible.
- 39:07He set a British record. I don't know if you saw his
- 39:08finish. He got done by the 100th Hubble,
- 39:12did he? So he threw it up, ran, had to
- 39:15come back and do it again. So like he's he's.
- 39:17Going to be. 5 or 6 seconds, but just also 5438 I think his time
- 39:21was. So yeah, another name to watch,
- 39:24but there's also talk about how the early 15 qualifications
- 39:28going to start having to change because the numbers are so tight
- 39:31and and like finding fast and slow courses.
- 39:34There needs to be specific ones you can and can't race at or
- 39:37heat to get into an elite 15. It's a bit elusive.
- 39:40It's a bit like the way I try and describe it to people who
- 39:43know. It's like, you know how you make
- 39:45the playoffs in college football.
- 39:47It's just like there's a group of people.
- 39:49So people decide based off like what they think like, what who
- 39:52they like. Definitely no extortion going on
- 39:54in there. So it's like, I don't think
- 39:56there's that much extortion hierarch, if any, but who knows?
- 40:00You know, I don't want to assume, but it does feel a
- 40:02little bit like that. It's a bit like subjective where
- 40:05it just needs to be objective. And it's like, this is how you
- 40:07qualify for Elite 15. And I'm sure the sport will
- 40:10advance and grow into a more kind of structured qualification
- 40:13system. But it's nice now to know that
- 40:15like anyone could run consistently fast times and
- 40:19become an elite pro level high officer.
- 40:22Do you know what I mean? It's cool.
- 40:24But yeah, it's, it's it's, it's cool to see the sport advance
- 40:27for sure. Well, talking of ways to get
- 40:29better and get to that level, we have a little bit of
- 40:33announcement in that the next SIM, yeah, yeah, we've got the
- 40:38dates booked. We've got a plan to be doing 3
- 40:41in the first three months of next year.
- 40:42But the one that you need to circle in your calendar right
- 40:45now is January the 4th. So if you are racing Manchester,
- 40:49which is 2-3 weeks, just after that towards the back end of
- 40:53January, it's 21st to the 25th, pretty good opportunity to get a
- 40:57run in, see what's going well, see what's not going well, tune
- 41:00it up. Especially if you've had a nice
- 41:02rest over Christmas, you don't want to kind of get hit the
- 41:04ground running. I think also if like off the
- 41:07back of London you're chomping at the bit to be more, or maybe
- 41:11you weren't satisfied with your performance in London.
- 41:13It's so accurate to an actual race.
- 41:16That it's such a good opportunity to do that and and
- 41:19we'll we'll be posting a lot about this.
- 41:21Like we're very smug about it. He's gonna.
- 41:23So this had to come up because like we, we've said before about
- 41:26the accuracy and we mentioned one particular race result from
- 41:30Birmingham versus the SIM time and there was like 4 or 5
- 41:33seconds between the two. This is not a stand alone thing
- 41:38though. Yeah.
- 41:39I mean, I, I can probably list off four or five people who came
- 41:43to the SIM. When did we do that?
- 41:45In November, end of November, who came to the SIM in November
- 41:48and then ran in London and was, were finished in London within
- 41:52about a minute of their SIM time.
- 41:55And that's just like there's no other Sims that are doing that.
- 41:58There's no other SIM that does all of the stations, all of the
- 42:02run length and yeah and factors in rock zone as well.
- 42:06So like we're pretty happy with it's going to make pretty smug
- 42:09with the way that it's being created.
- 42:10But we spent a lot of time actually making sure that it was
- 42:14the best because we don't want to sit here and go Oh yeah,
- 42:16obviously it's the most accurate because that's what everyone's
- 42:18going to say about the same. This is the literally the best
- 42:20thing you. Can do yeah, I think marketing
- 42:23is massive these days but they're like, this isn't even
- 42:25marketing No, that's what I love about it it's like we don't
- 42:28we're not saying stuff for the sake of saying it we're saying
- 42:30it just because we want you guys to know like.
- 42:33You can go and do a SIM and the SIM actually isn't the
- 42:38simulation because it's not the same thing.
- 42:40How can you have a simulation which isn't the same thing where
- 42:42you're doing C2 bike or you're doing something different over
- 42:45here and the runs aren't the same and you get a time and it's
- 42:47like, Oh, well done, you did it in 41 minutes.
- 42:50Yeah, if you went to higher OX and did 41 minutes, you're the
- 42:52fastest person ever and probably will ever be.
- 42:55So it's like we need something that's a little bit more
- 42:57accurate. And, and another thing that
- 42:58we've mentioned here is in, in the previous episode with one of
- 43:01some of the risks of people getting injured or not being
- 43:04physically prepared enough for these events.
- 43:05You can go and do three of those Sims and you do 41 minutes of
- 43:08intense exercise and you get there.
- 43:10And in actual fact, you have to, your time is like that's nearly
- 43:14doubled, but your body is not ready for that.
- 43:16You're not ready for that mentally.
- 43:18So you, you need to be doing proper length simulations And
- 43:23one of the things that I said to you, I worked out the the
- 43:26difference. This is super nerdy.
- 43:28You guys are used this to the point, but I worked out the
- 43:30difference between people's SIM times that we were seeing with
- 43:33us and their real race times. The tolerance is 0.01%.
- 43:38Now for reference, that's not just a very small number, but
- 43:40coming from an aerospace background that is a more safe
- 43:44tolerance than most of the aircraft you take on holiday.
- 43:47So we're pretty confident with it.
- 43:49I'm pretty happy about it. You're confident to go on
- 43:51holiday in an airplane then? Exactly.
- 43:54Anyway, we need to move on, wait before we do.
- 43:57Just a moment for Angus spending four full days in the Excel over
- 44:01this. Weekend.
- 44:02Oh my word. OK this is actually thank you.
- 44:05Perfect segue. Grind my gears.
- 44:10Spending that much time in a convention centre or in itself
- 44:12grinds my gears. However, the next London High
- 44:16Rocks is 9 days. Oh my God, nine.
- 44:20So what I did, Angus is going to be making money the next day.
- 44:24I think Angus is going to be spending money on therapy.
- 44:27I think that's what's going to be going on.
- 44:29But the first one, Mike is is because they have changed it
- 44:32this season with your race band doesn't get you entry anymore
- 44:36into the rest of the event. I had to wear, well, I didn't
- 44:42have to keep you on, but I did 1, 234 and five bands for the
- 44:50four days that I was in there. So I'm going to look like a pimp
- 44:54in London in March, whatever it is, when I've got 9 days
- 44:58straight of this going on. But yeah, that grinds my gears
- 45:02and it grinds my gears. It's going to hit people out
- 45:04because, yeah. Keeping your higher OX wristband
- 45:06on. You've said it.
- 45:07Before I'm keep. No, that's got to be a thing.
- 45:09Oh, for the other nine days, yeah.
- 45:13That's OK, but anytime after the event's done, if you're still
- 45:17wearing it like the week after being like, hey guys, I raced
- 45:19high rocks. Oh yeah, no, come on, mate.
- 45:21Yeah, maybe. Maybe when it first started, but
- 45:23not now, Not now. But yeah, I'm going to have like
- 45:25a sleeve of them on that. I've never seen the.
- 45:28Blue one we like the blue one the blue.
- 45:30One, actually the first time I ever saw the blue one was Elite
- 45:3415 spectating. All right.
- 45:36And I got that in Glasgow earlier this year, Flex.
- 45:39So if anyone is in the business of borrowing bands for whatever
- 45:43reason, we do not do not advocate that, but our DMS are
- 45:47open. If you want to know who is
- 45:49anyway terrible, we've got some writings from you guys this
- 45:52week. We love having you guys write.
- 45:53And if you weren't aware that you could do that, you can
- 45:55always do it. You don't necessarily need to
- 45:56wait for a story. So hit us up at Mindsets under
- 45:59score podcast. Or if you want to be really,
- 46:01really formal, you can e-mail us as well.
- 46:04No one has done that yet, but if you do that, that's really cool.
- 46:06Check the mindsets. E-mail.
- 46:08Yeah. Oh cool.
- 46:08I have push notifications on. Yeah, most of the time it's bop
- 46:13to spam. But yeah, anyway, we've we've
- 46:16got a few that have come in. We'll stay on the hierarchy
- 46:19scene for now and we'll move away from it.
- 46:20The first one that I've got is that you know how cheerleaders
- 46:27always go to World Champs and we've said like a lot of people
- 46:30go to World Champs and Hierarchs?
- 46:31Well, also in the same way that every cheerleader seems to win
- 46:35at World Champs, there are constant world records in
- 46:39Hierarchs every weekend as well. Yeah, there were multiple world
- 46:43records this weekend again in London.
- 46:44I think it's just like that's natural with any new sport.
- 46:50But it's it's because it's because you can get world
- 46:52records across age groups. Yeah, which I and it's like the
- 46:55same thing when we spoke about this report.
- 46:58I want to. Yeah.
- 46:59I want to just stay clear of the cheerleading thing.
- 47:02You guys know who you are. I'll stay clear of that.
- 47:05But it's like the NBA when you're the world champion, but
- 47:10you only play American teams, you know.
- 47:12So it's the same kind of, but I, I like that you can get a world
- 47:16record and there's something to aspire towards, but there's just
- 47:20age group world records and then there's certain categories.
- 47:23So you've got pro double s, you've got mixed double s,
- 47:26you've got all different types of world records that you can
- 47:28get, which over time you'll see less and less of them because
- 47:32for sure the the sport will grow and everyone will get super fast
- 47:35and then they'll like, I'm sure when they first invented the 100
- 47:39meters every other week, yeah, that was a world record because
- 47:42everyone was getting to know about it.
- 47:44It's like, well, I'm fast, I'll try it.
- 47:45So yeah, I I can understand why it's a bit frustrating, but
- 47:48it's. Yeah, I mean, and, and on that,
- 47:50the one that specifically set this person off was another
- 47:53relay world record. Oh, someone sent this in.
- 47:55Someone sent this in. So the the one that sent them
- 47:58off was that the men's relay world record got broken, which
- 48:02is also a mental time, 45 minutes.
- 48:04Unbelievable. Which is crazy, but I think was
- 48:07I think 2nd place would have also roping the original world
- 48:11record having. In the same race.
- 48:12Yeah, in the same race. So it's like both teams could
- 48:14say we broke the world record and then it's like, actually,
- 48:17yeah, yeah. So a bit of a mess.
- 48:20Then another one about high rocks.
- 48:22High Rocks being on weekdays. Yeah, having to take annual
- 48:25leave your high rocks race, literally, that's why you race
- 48:28pro and then it's in the evening and then you don't have to take
- 48:29their work. That's so true.
- 48:31That also ground a lot of at women's years this week.
- 48:34I had people come up to me and say this because the women for
- 48:36the first time ever had a very late race on the Friday.
- 48:42Some of the waves are being set off after 9:00 PM, which is way
- 48:46too. Yeah, that's too late like.
- 48:48And and that again just points towards like there's too many
- 48:51people buy the tickets, so we'll give them them.
- 48:53Yeah, it's crazy. I've got a High Rock specific
- 48:55one. This is something that I had
- 48:57never seen before. OK, doing your make up in the
- 49:02finisher pen before you do your official photo.
- 49:05Oh wow. Isn't it?
- 49:07Yeah, That's that's a lot. That that's a lot.
- 49:11OK, I'm not saying, hey, there's nothing wrong with makeup and
- 49:14look in your bags, but I think yeah, that's.
- 49:17Like some That's my way to your process planned to give your
- 49:20makeup bag to a spectator who's then going to meet you at the
- 49:24finisher pen to give you the makeup bag for you to then sit
- 49:27on the floor whilst everyone else is finishing and grabbing
- 49:30little bits of banana and drinking their water and you're
- 49:32sat on the floor. Little mirror brush.
- 49:37I don't know how it works, but doing a makeup that's that is
- 49:40mental. I'm going to protect myself here
- 49:42because I don't want to say that makeup's bad and that women
- 49:44can't look their best. I'm not saying that at all.
- 49:46That sounds like it. What I'm going to say instead is
- 49:49that's an ick. So that's yeah.
- 49:51That's an it. Right.
- 49:52OK, we'll go down that. Yeah, I feel like my grind, my
- 49:55gears are slowly just becoming X OK, fair.
- 49:57I think it's the same thing. My final higher specific one,
- 50:01this one's from me is a kind of a bit nerdy as well, the Q
- 50:07engineering. So for the people that don't
- 50:10know, Q engineering is a legit, I think there's a whole industry
- 50:14about it for events because like you really have to be able to
- 50:17control what people do and manage it.
- 50:20But you really have to understand the psychology of
- 50:23people. And we've spoken about it before
- 50:25with people bringing things like prams in and stuff like that.
- 50:27But one of the really. Cool things is that's really
- 50:30annoying at this venue. Yeah, one of the things that I
- 50:32always used to complain about, and a lot of venues they still
- 50:35have it is the sort of halfway system where you cross halfway
- 50:38of the run course and then there's people managing that and
- 50:40it's just a shit show. It doesn't work.
- 50:43They've now gone down the bridge route.
- 50:44When they started bringing bridges in, the bridges would
- 50:46fall apart and then you'd have like 10 people on the bridge at
- 50:49a time. And it would just, it would take
- 50:51forever to get over the bridge. And they haven't accounted for
- 50:52that. And they'd only have one bridge.
- 50:54And it's just a mess. Annoyingly, while the bridges
- 50:59are now stable enough to take whatever and they don't need
- 51:01people letting you up and down, there is still only one.
- 51:04Yeah, which is a bit of a problem.
- 51:06And I think one of the big things that was pissing people
- 51:09off this toilets, the toilets there should be an athlete
- 51:12specific entry. I had this whole thing mapped
- 51:15out. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:16So from warm area to. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:19If there isn't a toilet available to the warm up area,
- 51:22there should be an athlete private specific toilet area.
- 51:24Do you know what the best venue I've ever been to was?
- 51:26Birmingham. Birmingham was by far the best.
- 51:28There was access to to toilets from the warm up.
- 51:31Area. The stairs were falling apart
- 51:33there. Malaga's pretty good.
- 51:36Is it for having toilets specifically only in the warm up
- 51:39area? That's great.
- 51:40Just call them. I mean, they're probably stink,
- 51:42but could you not have like portaloos in the warm up area?
- 51:44Yeah, you could have something. The the the main point about the
- 51:47Q engineering though, is that there is there is some thought
- 51:51process that goes in before an event and you're if you're there
- 51:54on a weekday, it's quieter with respect and you're like, they've
- 51:57really thought this route that. Thank you, this is great.
- 51:59Like there's so much space. Then Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
- 52:02come along. Oh, Friday evening, Saturday and
- 52:04Sunday come along and it's mental.
- 52:06And the problem is they have sometimes made adjustments that
- 52:10use a relative degree of logic. However, the people they have
- 52:13designed it for do not have the same logic.
- 52:15And so you have people joining the well designed queuing area
- 52:20to cross the bridge to film the friends start and leaning over
- 52:26the fence. And now you've got a queue to go
- 52:28up the stairs and most of the queue then actually once the
- 52:31person starts, it's going to run all the way down to the other
- 52:33side of the area. They're going the opposite way.
- 52:34It's yeah, yeah. If you're a person, use some
- 52:38logic that. Was so specific to this venue
- 52:40though. Yeah, I saw that happening a
- 52:41lot. But like, it's that sort of
- 52:42thing where an adjustment gets made and the full thought
- 52:45process isn't there because you assume that no one's going to be
- 52:47that dumb. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:49And people are always that dumb. It's such like a culture shock
- 52:51where you you've come on maybe like Thursday, Yeah.
- 52:54And then you arrive on Saturday and you're like, this is a
- 52:57completely different event and I don't like it.
- 52:59If you're over simulated on a weekday, do not go a weekend.
- 53:03Weekends. Yeah, I'll go.
- 53:05What more Hyrox ones? No, I'm done with Hyrox now.
- 53:07I had something, but then I forgot about it.
- 53:08But there's the one I've been waiting to say.
- 53:11I can't believe I'm going to put this on the Internet.
- 53:14I am. I grind my gear.
- 53:17OK, so rewind all the way back to when we did the gimmick
- 53:21episode. When we went we went to town on
- 53:24nose strips. I slept in a nose strip around a
- 53:29week ago and was honestly the best sleep I've ever had.
- 53:33It is. So first of all, it doesn't help
- 53:37your performance. There's science behind that,
- 53:38whatever. However, I will agree sometimes
- 53:42you put one on or you can you can smell in 4D.
- 53:46No, I'm smelling colours man. It was crazy honestly.
- 53:49I put it on instantly. I was like.
- 53:51Oh, wow. At one event, if I'm, if I'm
- 53:53like congested or something like that, I put one of those on and
- 53:55I'm like, like, can you hear that?
- 53:58When you put a nose strap on, you can't hear yourself breathe.
- 54:01It's just silent. Yeah.
- 54:03I haven't done it since, despite having such a good night's
- 54:05sleep, because I just, I gave myself the air cars like I
- 54:08cannot do this. You only get addicted to it
- 54:10either. That's like, well if you get
- 54:11used to wide nostrils because when you take it off, how saggy
- 54:14do your nostrils feel? That's the problem.
- 54:16It just suddenly feels like you can't breathe.
- 54:18That's the problem. Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 54:20The last one that I've got was also sent in but is actually a
- 54:24topic for us because we were with this person.
- 54:29Christmas time specifically, but calories on the menu.
- 54:33So. Back.
- 54:34Story for this I think we wound a few people up with that we we
- 54:37did because I don't. Care, but no, like generally I
- 54:40don't care because and we spoke about this, we it.
- 54:42Was funny though We. Probably trained enough to like
- 54:45get it off, but we were out for dinner and we saw on the menu
- 54:50that there was a what was it? A creme brulee?
- 54:54But it wasn't a creme brulee. Thing it was like a tiramisu
- 54:56creme brulee. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 54:58It was like, yeah, it was like a hybrid of the two with a bit
- 55:00shortbread on the side and it came to 1476 calories and we
- 55:06didn't want it anyway. There was no way it was but.
- 55:09There's no way it can be that many like this.
- 55:10This feels like a made-up number.
- 55:11But at Christmas time with all the roast dinners and
- 55:14everything, the calories on menus are crazy.
- 55:16And I, I'm so torn. Should they be there?
- 55:21Because I think they should be, to give people informed
- 55:23decisions. And the impact it had on me?
- 55:26Yeah. Immediately changed what I
- 55:28wanted to eat. Yeah.
- 55:28Yeah. And I still can't decide if
- 55:30that's good or bad, because it's supposedly unhealthy to be
- 55:34controlling what you eat by a number.
- 55:35But at the same time, I'm like, actually, while I would enjoy it
- 55:39more if I didn't know I'm going to enjoy what I'm having more
- 55:44that I have to. Yeah, because I know I'm not
- 55:46fucking myself. And it's the thing, yeah, it's
- 55:48such a hard one. I like, I don't want to deep it,
- 55:50but if if I have been training at the time because I'm not
- 55:54really training at the moment, I wouldn't have even given it a
- 55:56second thought. But seeing the numbers on that,
- 55:59on that many specifically, those numbers were made-up.
- 56:02There's no way that roast was that many calories.
- 56:05Well your your roast was like 1000 calories more than mine and
- 56:08there wasn't much difference between.
- 56:10The two, so whatever. But yeah, it was like, it
- 56:12definitely made me think like, that's like eating a Domino's
- 56:16Pizza. And, and from the perspective of
- 56:18like the chef who puts the menu together and then someone goes
- 56:23by the way, mate, that, that one, that one day she's 2200
- 56:28calories. That's more than, you know, a
- 56:30woman's recommended daily consumption.
- 56:33You happy with that? Well, probably not because like
- 56:36that person's probably not going to eat only that all day.
- 56:39I'm, I'm going to have to find a way to reduce portion size or
- 56:42reduce calories. Otherwise, people just aren't
- 56:44going to get it. And like the site.
- 56:46So Long story short, Creme, I, I ordered.
- 56:51Yeah, we, we were so upset with how many calories were in this
- 56:54what was probably going to be a tiny dessert like everyone was
- 56:57asked. This poor waiter had no idea
- 56:59what was going on. So I was like, I'll take one for
- 57:01the team. I'm going to order it just so we
- 57:02can see it because we asked the waiter, we don't want it, but
- 57:05can you, can you get us a photo? Well, we asked him how big it
- 57:07was and he was like, I don't know.
- 57:09And we were like, can we do twice?
- 57:10And he was like, I'll go investigate.
- 57:12But then so then, so then I was like, OK, right.
- 57:14So the only way around this, we'll order 1.
- 57:16He comes back about 5 minutes later saying sorry guys, there's
- 57:20no more or creme brulee. So for sure he's gone back to
- 57:23the kitchen and there's been load of creme brulees, but he's
- 57:26gone. These guys are a bit weird.
- 57:28They're asking, they're asking for the numbers and yeah, yeah,
- 57:31yeah. And the chef's just panicked and
- 57:32gone. Yeah.
- 57:32There's no way it's that much. Yeah, he, he's, he's looked and
- 57:35gone. Look, it's it's, it's been this
- 57:37big and he's like, there's no way there's 50. 8 He's like
- 57:39this, doesn't that, Yeah, fuck it, I can't.
- 57:41It's easier for me to say there's not one.
- 57:43So he came back and said, yeah, there's no Creme Brulee, so
- 57:45we'll never know. Maybe I'll go back.
- 57:47Yeah, we should go back. Let's do it and that's just
- 57:51we'll order just one because that's pretty much our calories
- 57:53assumption for the day. We'll have to share.
- 57:54Yeah yeah okay, well that brings the end of grind my gears.
- 57:58And now normally we fill this bit with eating something guys
- 58:03the next. Episode is quite big episode we
- 58:04couldn't eat anything because of the amount of calories on the
- 58:07weekend. Yeah, we've had far too many.
- 58:10We are doing a Christmas slash New Year's special next time,
- 58:14which means we want input, but we're also going to be eating
- 58:17Christmassy things, trying your favorite.
- 58:19So if you've got something specific in whether it's a meal
- 58:21deal or like a a go to snack that you have a Christmas, maybe
- 58:25around your training, whatever, let us know.
- 58:27We do want to try them. We want to have a plethora of
- 58:29things. There's going to be multiple
- 58:31games in the next episode. There's going to be very
- 58:34specific Christmas topics, not so much hierarchs or specific
- 58:38fitness, but we will be talking about those.
- 58:41Obviously it's the premise of the podcast, but we want to know
- 58:43what grinds your gears at Christmas and New Year's.
- 58:47I know I've got far too many already.
- 58:49I it's, it's actually ridiculous.
- 58:50I remember recording the New Year's resolution at the
- 58:53beginning of this year, and just like that seems like yesterday.
- 58:55Yeah, terrible. So make sure we write in so we
- 58:58don't repeat ourselves from that episode.
- 59:00But we have got a new game today and I am so gassed about this
- 59:05because I have invented what is possibly the next billion dollar
- 59:09game. He even messaged me last night
- 59:11being like, all he said was this game's amazing.
- 59:13OK, So what I'm hoping is while you guys are not playing is that
- 59:18you can enjoy the tense parts of this game.
- 59:23So have you ever heard of Dungeons and Dragons?
- 59:27I've heard of it. It's kind of nerdy, kind of
- 59:30weird, but I don't fully know how to play it.
- 59:34But I understand the premise. It's using guys using chance to
- 59:37navigate a story. However, welcome to hybrids and
- 59:42Rockstars. This is a game based off
- 59:44Dungeons and Dragons using dice where you and I and whoever else
- 59:48wants to play is racing at high rocks.
- 59:52So what we're going to do is we're going to go through each
- 59:55run and each station one at a time.
- 59:58We're going to roll one dice each.
- 1:00:01The first ice if. That's the rules with Oh no, no.
- 1:00:05No, it's so easy. I've ran out.
- 1:00:07It's so much time has went into this, it's stupid.
- 1:00:10The first ice is first die is going to give you your time for
- 1:00:13said run or said station. So that corresponds to a number
- 1:00:16of minutes, sure. The second die that you roll is
- 1:00:20an impact on that. So this is where the chance
- 1:00:23comes in. So for example, on your run
- 1:00:27impact, if you roll A1, unfortunately you missed the
- 1:00:31rocks in and ran an extra lap double your runtime.
- 1:00:35However, if you were to roll A6, hybrid Rockstar mode activated
- 1:00:39half your runtime. OK, right.
- 1:00:42That is an example, and there's bits in between for 1234 and
- 1:00:46five on runs, and then there's some grouping on the.
- 1:00:49Stations the scalability of this game when we do sell it to the
- 1:00:52public. Yes.
- 1:00:53Oh, by the way, this is patent pending.
- 1:00:55Can you would you change the scenario?
- 1:00:57It's never going to be the same thing.
- 1:00:58It just depends on who's you have like a a hybrid rock stars
- 1:01:04leader for each game. Yes.
- 1:01:05Yeah. All right.
- 1:01:06Which is you? You're the master.
- 1:01:08Yeah, you have. You have AJ an MC.
- 1:01:11Oh cool. Yeah.
- 1:01:13So that's basically our now there's a few things that we
- 1:01:16need to do. First of all, we're both going
- 1:01:18to roll the well, both die, so you can roll first.
- 1:01:23What we're doing here is we're deciding who's got the better
- 1:01:25warm up. I'm running them both at the.
- 1:01:27Same time. Yep, now whoever rolls the
- 1:01:29highest warm up score. So Charles just rolled 2 fours.
- 1:01:32That's 8 or the maximum score 12 we are rocking.
- 1:01:39So the certainly doubt score means that I win a wild card.
- 1:01:45The wild card is very simple. It's just that I can at any
- 1:01:48point in the game one time ask you to re roll.
- 1:01:51Oh cool, OK nice. And only one die.
- 1:01:54OK, OK, but when we roll now it's going to be 1 at a time, so
- 1:01:58it's going to be runtime and then and then your impact score
- 1:02:01OK and I'm going to make a note of what each of us score as we
- 1:02:04go along to to find our final high rocks times right OK, so
- 1:02:09you. You're rolling along at home,
- 1:02:10right? Yeah, so hybrids and rock stars.
- 1:02:15Hybrids and rock stars, OK, you can roll the first die first.
- 1:02:20So your first run or 6 minutes, it's a long first run will give
- 1:02:24you the benefit of the doubt. OK, now you can roll your second
- 1:02:27eye. I mean, at least it's accurate
- 1:02:29to real life. Oh dear.
- 1:02:32Oh oh, you missed the rocks in and ran an extra lap double your
- 1:02:35runtime. Conveniently, that's what
- 1:02:39happened. A year.
- 1:02:39Ago to you, almost to the day. Almost.
- 1:02:42Too so ironic. OK, that is not the strongest
- 1:02:45start. You're not going to be setting a
- 1:02:46world record like that. At least you're in the grinding.
- 1:02:49Again, it is so funny that that hasn't been engineered right so.
- 1:02:55Oh, my first one was a one. No.
- 1:02:58OK, do. You want me to re roll?
- 1:02:59I rolled both by accident. Sorry.
- 1:03:00OK roll the first one again. My runtime is 3 minutes solid
- 1:03:04and my impact 2 not great. You clearly went out too hot.
- 1:03:11Your legs aren't feeling very fresh anymore.
- 1:03:13Add 2 minutes the runtime. OK, so I'm on five.
- 1:03:17OK, you can roll for your ski erg now.
- 1:03:20God, this is a long game. That's why we didn't do a filler
- 1:03:23between the earlier years and this.
- 1:03:25So a four, OK. So 4 impact score impact.
- 1:03:28Score. It's a 2.
- 1:03:30It's a 2 so you you stop skiing early but the ski only went to
- 1:03:35999 meters when you ran off at a minute.
- 1:03:38So 3-3 minutes is a wait. What did you roll 2?
- 1:03:41Four and a 2. 2 was the second one, Yeah.
- 1:03:44So it's only three minutes on the ski.
- 1:03:45Ug. How are you working that out?
- 1:03:46It's. Pretty good.
- 1:03:49What? Well, you've got 2 minutes on
- 1:03:51the ski. Ug, there's your time.
- 1:03:52Oh, that's the impact. Is minutes.
- 1:03:54Oh, sorry. That's my minutes is 4.
- 1:03:57Your minutes is 4. Your impact was two.
- 1:03:59You're you add a minute so I'm 5.
- 1:04:00So you're 5. Sorry.
- 1:04:01Yeah, thank you. Don't gaslight me.
- 1:04:04Thank you for being on top of this.
- 1:04:06OK, so my first role 6, that's not great for this Geo 6
- 1:04:12minutes. OK, one much worse down for 10.
- 1:04:18Butterfly technique, jumping up and down, add 2 minutes.
- 1:04:21So I've just had an 8. Stuff for the poker that's
- 1:04:24that's really tough. That's good.
- 1:04:26OK, so first ice is always your it's always your time.
- 1:04:28It's always your time. Fine.
- 1:04:29So this is my run. Two run 2-3 minutes.
- 1:04:32That's solid. OK.
- 1:04:33And your impact score 5, this looks good for me.
- 1:04:36OK, you're someone's been training, compromise running.
- 1:04:39Take a minute off your time. Is it so 2 minutes for my first?
- 1:04:43Yeah. Wow, that makes up for my that
- 1:04:45this this sounds a lot like Stockholm.
- 1:04:47Yeah, it does. It does, right.
- 1:04:50So first one for me 5 not great 2 this is for.
- 1:04:55Sure, catching on. You're having a good time.
- 1:04:57You clearly went out too hot. So I'm I need to add 2 minutes.
- 1:05:00So that's a 7 minute run. Wow, we're actually quite close.
- 1:05:03You're on 23 minutes, so I'm on 20, so I'm.
- 1:05:05Still doing a great start as well.
- 1:05:08So two-minute, 2 minutes. Sled push.
- 1:05:11Sled push, 2 minutes. That's pretty good.
- 1:05:12That's pretty good. Oh no, all dear one impact
- 1:05:16score. You've never done this exercise
- 1:05:17before today. Double your time. 4 minutes
- 1:05:20could be worse. I'll still take that. 4 minutes,
- 1:05:22I'll still take that. God, I'm going to play this so
- 1:05:25much. Yeah, you're so.
- 1:05:27I'm so pleased with myself. I've been enjoying it one
- 1:05:29morning. OK, so 3 minutes from my sled
- 1:05:32push and the impact score a four, That's pretty good.
- 1:05:36Imagine trying to play this at Christmas with your family.
- 1:05:39You can you. Can.
- 1:05:40It's patent pending though, so don't steal it.
- 1:05:43So for a four on the sleds average, average turf, average
- 1:05:48sled athlete, I can keep my time.
- 1:05:50It'll take you 4 minutes. No, 3 minutes.
- 1:05:52No, 3 minutes. Sorry.
- 1:05:54OK, you're run three, run 3. Here we go.
- 1:05:57You're good. You've rolled A6.
- 1:06:00Not ideal. Give me give me impact six.
- 1:06:04OK, yeah, you missed the rocks in again, so you can double your
- 1:06:06runtime. Limit.
- 1:06:08So 39 minutes now, it's not going to be a wild, you know
- 1:06:12what? I really hope to God Nathan
- 1:06:14Bagby is watching his mod cast shout out.
- 1:06:16I've also just rolled A6 for my run and I've rolled A5 however,
- 1:06:21so five. I've been training my compromise
- 1:06:23running so I can take a minute off.
- 1:06:24OK, so 5 minutes. Still not great.
- 1:06:26Still not great. All right, So what?
- 1:06:29We're doing sled pool now. We're on sled.
- 1:06:30Pool give me something good 4 minutes I'll take it that's
- 1:06:33right are we racing pro because I.
- 1:06:35Can take that yeah yeah, 22 bad sled lane and you keep falling
- 1:06:41over. You can add 2 minutes. 6
- 1:06:45minutes. To be fair for racing pro I'm
- 1:06:47taking it really. Not for the falling over but I'm
- 1:06:50taking 6 minutes. OK, that's a four.
- 1:06:54Yeah, and a two, you're also falling.
- 1:06:58I also am falling over we. Got the same.
- 1:07:00Time then I did actually fall over in London, by the way, that
- 1:07:02wasn't my fault and I didn't step on the rope.
- 1:07:04For those wondering, the rope got caught on the sled and when
- 1:07:06it undid, all the slack came back and I fell over.
- 1:07:08It was really embarrassing. I can't believe you have minted
- 1:07:10it so I know. So that was a six minutes.
- 1:07:14So I'm on say 4. We're on run four.
- 1:07:17We're on run 4. Coming up to the burpees now.
- 1:07:20Oh, a one minute run. Let's see what happens. 2 So
- 1:07:27yeah, you went out too hot. So it's a 3 minute run.
- 1:07:29Yeah, still take that. Yeah, you've, I'm taking.
- 1:07:32It yeah right, a 3 minute run with.
- 1:07:36Oh, hybrid Rockstar activated hybrid, right?
- 1:07:39I can half my time, so that's a 1 1/2 minute run.
- 1:07:42That's so convoluted. I really wish I hadn't done that
- 1:07:44because counting has just got so much higher.
- 1:07:46OK. So what are our overall Times
- 1:07:48Now going into the going? Into the beppies.
- 1:07:49You're on 48 minutes. You're near our supposed cut
- 1:07:52off. I'm on 35.5.
- 1:07:57Jake and Charlie are finishing their war.
- 1:07:58Balls. OK, so we're on to the burpees.
- 1:08:03Fine, that's not right, that's not not great.
- 1:08:07Oh however he's just rolled A6 so your mates a judge and lets
- 1:08:12you cheat you can half your time.
- 1:08:13Perfect. So 2 1/2, right.
- 1:08:16That's good. I'm taking that all.
- 1:08:17Day long. I'd be so happy with 2 1/2.
- 1:08:19That's a leap. That is a leap.
- 1:08:21A one minute burpee time for me. If this is a six I.
- 1:08:25Can half my time again. That's a 32nd burpee.
- 1:08:28Cheers mate for watching me cheat.
- 1:08:31OK unbelievable. I'm actually pretty proud of my
- 1:08:34time so far. What are you on?
- 1:08:35I'm on to run 5 on 36 minutes. That's OK.
- 1:08:37It's all right. Yeah.
- 1:08:38OK. So run five, Yeah.
- 1:08:40One minute run, one minute run. Let's strong.
- 1:08:42Let's go. Oh, a one I've missed.
- 1:08:47You've missed. You've missed the number of laps
- 1:08:49again. So you need to double your
- 1:08:51runtime, which is still. I'm taking a team.
- 1:08:53I need a team. That was good.
- 1:08:55That was good. Yeah.
- 1:08:56OK, First first roll here. You can't go wrong if you roll
- 1:08:59A1 for the run. No, you can't. 3 is all right,
- 1:09:01three and a six, so I can half it. 37.5 and we're into the row.
- 1:09:10I like row. Give me something three minute
- 1:09:14row. Sounds bad.
- 1:09:18Yeah, six. Wow, your hybrid Rockstar mode
- 1:09:22activated by you half your time. 1 1/2 minute row. 1 1/2 minute
- 1:09:25row. I needed that.
- 1:09:26That's crazy. That's good for the program so.
- 1:09:28You're on now 54 minutes. So what am I doing?
- 1:09:34A 6 minute row? Not ideal at a three.
- 1:09:38What does a three mean? I'm pretty average.
- 1:09:41I can keep my time. OK, so right.
- 1:09:46So where are we at though? Because I must be, we must be
- 1:09:49close. 54 minutes. I'm on 43 point. 5010 minutes.
- 1:09:53Yeah, I've got to do some making up.
- 1:09:54You've got to do some making up. What's this?
- 1:09:56Run 6. This is run 6.
- 1:09:58A22 minute run. Good come.
- 1:10:02On and A1. Double it.
- 1:10:05I'm getting the hang of this game now, aren't I?
- 1:10:06You're not getting the hang of the number of laps though.
- 1:10:09I'm. Taking a 4 minute run.
- 1:10:11A 4 minute run. OK.
- 1:10:12Sounds about right. Yeah, that's fine.
- 1:10:16Let's see though. And a four was four we had
- 1:10:20you're placing your runs well, keep your run score.
- 1:10:23OK, so. You're making this up as we go
- 1:10:25along. It's literally on the screen in
- 1:10:28front of me. OK, so now we're into farmers
- 1:10:30carry. We are into farmers carry.
- 1:10:32Give me a one. However, sorry for Farmers
- 1:10:35carry, your first dice roll is for 30 seconds, not one minute,
- 1:10:38because Farmers carry is a much shorter station.
- 1:10:39OK. Technicalities, yeah.
- 1:10:42So 3 minutes because you've just rolled A6.
- 1:10:46Well, it's better than doing a six.
- 1:10:47At farms carry, that's for sure. And A5 and A5.
- 1:10:50So give me farms carry unbroken. Take a minute off your time.
- 1:10:53I'm taking it so 2 minutes. 2 minutes, that sounds about
- 1:10:56right. That's good.
- 1:10:56There you go. We're something to get integrity
- 1:10:58in this game similar to our Sims.
- 1:11:01OK, so first ice for me a three. So that's 1 1/2 minute.
- 1:11:06That's pretty good. That is good.
- 1:11:09You don't like? To see you have the grips that
- 1:11:12grip strength of an infant child double your time.
- 1:11:15So I've got a 3 minute that's. Still your take it.
- 1:11:18It's pretty much the worst it can be.
- 1:11:21It's not but. Oh, it could be.
- 1:11:23Worse. It could be a lot worse, right?
- 1:11:27Run seven, run 70. We're getting close.
- 1:11:30We are crunch time. 4 minute run, 4 minute run, followed by
- 1:11:33the impact of three. That's not good, is it?
- 1:11:36So. Oh no, there's no fast lane
- 1:11:37police and you find yourself caught in a busy track.
- 1:11:40Add one minute to your runtime. So is that a 4 minute?
- 1:11:43Run 5 minute run. Oh sorry, 5 minute run.
- 1:11:46OK, this could be well OK, my run a 1 to one minute run,
- 1:11:51that's huge. And a two.
- 1:11:53OK so I need to add 2 minutes. That's a 3 minute run, all
- 1:11:57right. Lunchtime.
- 1:11:58Lunchtime. This is where I usually die in a
- 1:12:01race. What?
- 1:12:03See that catch? Watch that on YouTube.
- 1:12:05That was actually amazing. Can I roll again?
- 1:12:06Yeah, no one on YouTube can see that either.
- 1:12:08That happened off the table. Yeah, but you would have, you
- 1:12:10would have heard it if it hit the floor.
- 1:12:11All right, OK. That was God.
- 1:12:13I'm athletic. He he comes in with a one
- 1:12:17minute. Lunge, he is athletic and A5.
- 1:12:21This is good. This is big for the program.
- 1:12:24Those overpriced lactate buffer supplements and their placebo
- 1:12:27effects are working wonders. You can take 2 minutes of your
- 1:12:30time. A minus time.
- 1:12:32A minus time. That's unheard of in high rod,
- 1:12:35so you're. Getting rid of a minute.
- 1:12:36I'm getting rid of a minute. Wow.
- 1:12:38I'm happy with that. I'm glad I got a minus.
- 1:12:40I think that's. Actually one of the only times
- 1:12:42you can do that, so you've nailed it.
- 1:12:44OK, my lunges 2. Minute lunges.
- 1:12:46That's huge. Three.
- 1:12:48What's a three on lunges? Not terrible.
- 1:12:52Keep your time. How many times are you getting
- 1:12:54that? I'm just average run 8, So 50.
- 1:12:59Run 8. 5 minutes. 5 minutes. I need AI.
- 1:13:05Need a Rockstar. What's that?
- 1:13:06Hybrid Rockstar Activation 4/4. Give me something.
- 1:13:10Your average. Keep it.
- 1:13:12Yeah. You're pacing your runs where
- 1:13:13you can. Keep it. 5 minute run.
- 1:13:16OK, OK. I've got a 4 minute run.
- 1:13:21That's good. 6 Hybrid Rock stars 2 minute run.
- 1:13:26That's big. OK, so you're coming to the
- 1:13:28wools on 69 minutes pause. You're I'm coming to the wools
- 1:13:34on 59 1/2 minutes. Oh, it's 10 minutes in it.
- 1:13:37We've got the wools to do and then we've got a double dice
- 1:13:42roll for the rock zone. Oh, OK, fine.
- 1:13:46OK. Out of the integrity of the
- 1:13:49game. Yeah.
- 1:13:51You still can get me to re roll. I can, yeah.
- 1:13:54You haven't forgotten that. I haven't forgot.
- 1:13:56Just wanted to make. Yeah, I haven't forgotten.
- 1:13:58Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:13:58I wondered if you're going to keep it.
- 1:14:00I mean I I I only need it if I need it.
- 1:14:04One minute warble. I might be using it don't.
- 1:14:07Be there, don't be. There, give me no, no, I want
- 1:14:10you to re roll that right now. You're absolutely the worst guy
- 1:14:13I. Don't want to like if I wait for
- 1:14:14the impact I can only ask you to re roll the impact.
- 1:14:17A 4 minute warble, that's still not bad.
- 1:14:20Oh, actually a bit sad. 55 though, I needed that.
- 1:14:24I needed that. OK, well done.
- 1:14:26You went unbroken buried with the wobbles.
- 1:14:29Take two minutes of your time. So 3 minute wobbles.
- 1:14:32It's pretty good. Wait.
- 1:14:33How many of the time? Oh. 2 minutes off.
- 1:14:36Yeah, 2 minutes off. So 2 minute.
- 1:14:38Walls, you're on 69, so you're on 71.
- 1:14:41That's a big finish. That's I'm a good high on the
- 1:14:44rock zone. Yeah, yeah, I know.
- 1:14:45I'm taking it though. You are notoriously good at rock
- 1:14:48Zone. It became 2 minute wobbles good
- 1:14:52and A5 as well. I think I've just done a 0
- 1:14:54minute wool balls so I've I've currently won sub hour.
- 1:14:58I'm on 59 1/2. That is mental.
- 1:15:00However, we've got a rock zone in it.
- 1:15:02Yeah, I can still lose if I roll A12.
- 1:15:07OK. And you roll a nothing so going.
- 1:15:12On SO I. Double dice, double dice.
- 1:15:14This is your rock zone. And I don't know what that means
- 1:15:16your. Your total dice is your rock
- 1:15:19zone time. This, this game is, is sick.
- 1:15:23Incredible. I'm quite happy about it.
- 1:15:24Unless you hate Irox. Yeah, and we are.
- 1:15:27This is more tragic than hundreds of Dragons by far.
- 1:15:32Oh lads 9 minutes 9 minute rock Zone 6 and a three.
- 1:15:36Say you've gone 80 minute irox. For your first time.
- 1:15:40For my first time. It's not bad.
- 1:15:42I missed a lot of it, hit insurance.
- 1:15:44I did a lot of extra laps. Five year rock zone.
- 1:15:46OK, so I've gone a 64.5 sub 65 you'll say unhappy with that.
- 1:15:54Let's just. Let's just assume we're.
- 1:15:55Working Yeah, well, welcome to Hybrids and Rockstars, soon to
- 1:15:59be available in all shops and Amazon near.
- 1:16:04You I want to be the face of the product.
- 1:16:05I want to be on the front of the box.
- 1:16:07OK, sure. We we'll both we'll both have
- 1:16:10Rabdo in the in the image. That should have been a, yeah.
- 1:16:13Scenario. Well, not that, right?
- 1:16:15Yeah, well, we might have. I kind of want the idea of
- 1:16:18chance cards. Oh, might bring chance cards
- 1:16:20into it guys. If you enjoyed that you want to
- 1:16:22be at home, then let me know. You best believe as soon as we
- 1:16:25stop recording this, we're going.
- 1:16:27Oh yeah, for sure. Maybe we'll bring it back and
- 1:16:29we'll have some different things that can happen.
- 1:16:31If you've got certain scenarios you want us to include and what
- 1:16:33the impact of that could be, then actually let us know,
- 1:16:35because I would. I really like this.
- 1:16:37This is really fun. It's actually really fun.
- 1:16:39So yeah. But the next episode, like I
- 1:16:41said, is the Christmas special. So make sure you give us
- 1:16:44something that you'd like to listen to.
- 1:16:46We may end up doing this in a Christmas Eve version.
- 1:16:48We will have, as I said, multiple games.
- 1:16:51So let us know your favorite ones of the year if you've been
- 1:16:53listening throughout. If you haven't, go back, check
- 1:16:54out those episodes, drop a five star review while you're there,
- 1:16:57share it with a friend and then go and watch them all again on
- 1:17:00What on YouTube and subscribe when you're there as well.
- 1:17:03Charles, is there anything from you before we move into the full
- 1:17:06Christmas Eve next episode? I think just a big shout out to,
- 1:17:09well, everyone who raised high rocks.
- 1:17:10There were lots of people who did it their first time, which
- 1:17:12was really cool to see. But Rockstad, the most athletes
- 1:17:16or coach athletes, the most community members that we've
- 1:17:19ever had racing. So it was like a really
- 1:17:21successful, really big week for us as well.
- 1:17:23So just shout out to everyone who who smashed it basically.
- 1:17:27And shout out to everyone who doesn't like high rocks and
- 1:17:31listens. Anyway, thanks for not with us
- 1:17:32And. That's a tough episode, yeah.
- 1:17:34That was a tough episode, but the next one may be far more
- 1:17:37suited to everybody, so we look forward to seeing you there.
- 1:17:41See you in the next one.
