- 0:13Hello, Melissa Crook here on the Field podcast.
- 0:16Welcome back. This week we are back with
- 0:18another empowerment session episode and just going to share
- 0:22some insights with you today on prioritizing yourself care.
- 0:27Now this May. Some people don't like that
- 0:30language. Self-care, I'm afraid,
- 0:32unfortunately has become a phrase that has been a little
- 0:36bit overused and misunderstood and and unfortunately used as
- 0:40some marketing propaganda. But it's a very real need.
- 0:44But there's other ways you can look at it.
- 0:46If self-care throws you, it might be self preservation,
- 0:49self-sustaining, self leadership.
- 0:52These are all words. The important point here is that
- 0:56you are finding ways to care for you, to fill your cup.
- 1:01So we're going to talk about that today and what it could
- 1:04look like. So some questions to consider
- 1:07are #1 do you, do you prioritize your Wellness?
- 1:12Do you prioritize making time for you to fill your cup each
- 1:17day to make sure that you're resourced and ready for whatever
- 1:21each day, each week, each month has for you?
- 1:24If you're not doing that, why? And I want you to really sit
- 1:29with this part. If you're not doing it, I don't
- 1:32want you to to make some notes to yourself, whether it's in
- 1:35your journal, notes in your phone, notes in your mind.
- 1:39What's getting in your way of doing that?
- 1:42Because if it's, I think it's selfish, that's untrue.
- 1:46That's a false narrative that women have been fed for
- 1:50literally thousands of years that we really that I want to
- 1:54help you unlearn and relearn the truth in that if you do
- 1:58prioritize your Wellness, not only do you show up well for
- 2:02yourself, which you are more than worthy and valuable of
- 2:05doing, but for everyone else around you and how they
- 2:08experience you. But I want you to get curious
- 2:11about why if you're wise, there's not enough time, there
- 2:15is. You might just need help
- 2:18identifying it where it already exists.
- 2:21And those are all ways that I can help you.
- 2:24But hopefully so if you need more help after today, you know
- 2:28where to find me embracinglayers.com dot contact
- 2:30form. Let's get together.
- 2:32But these are really important questions to consider an answer
- 2:35because they're going to help you ensure that you are
- 2:38prioritizing and remove the narratives that are not true
- 2:44that you've been allowing yourself to believe that have
- 2:47kept you from doing this. If you do make time for this,
- 2:51what does it involve? Have you checked in with
- 2:55yourself in a while to ensure that these things are still
- 2:57actually filling your cup and not just a checklist item?
- 3:01Because I think sometimes it's really easy to get into patterns
- 3:05and all of a sudden maybe those patterns of of care, we aren't
- 3:10working anymore because we shift and change over seasons in time,
- 3:14but it works in our calendar. But we keep doing it.
- 3:16But if we're doing it and it's not actually serving us in the
- 3:20way that we need it to, there might be time to stop and
- 3:23reflect and maybe go back to a list and consider again, what
- 3:27actually fills my cup now and, and what do I, what might need
- 3:32to shift or what do I need to maybe replace this with?
- 3:35So these are really important questions that I want you to
- 3:39consider as you're thinking about this.
- 3:43Another thing I want you to add to this, and this might help you
- 3:47answer that. If not, why is remembering that
- 3:50little things really do add up? You don't have to set aside two
- 3:54hours of your calendar every day.
- 3:56There are really little things you can do throughout your day
- 4:00that can feel your cup, that can settle your nervous system, that
- 4:03can be for you. And some of those things might
- 4:06look like when you're driving to and from work, it's just you in
- 4:10the car. Maybe if you have kids, you've
- 4:13already dropped the kids off while you're waiting for them to
- 4:16finish soccer practice or piano lessons or drama or or whatever
- 4:21it is, whether you're on your drive home and you're stuck in
- 4:25traffic, maybe have more time than you thought you were going
- 4:28to have. These are all some things that
- 4:31you can utilize that time to fill your cup with.
- 4:35It might be listening to your favorite music, listening to
- 4:39your favorite podcast, taking some time to do some breathing
- 4:43exercises, go for a walk around the block.
- 4:46If you're waiting for a kiddo or a partner to finish up a meeting
- 4:51or a practice or or something they're involved in after
- 4:55school. Maybe you just need some quiet,
- 4:59like silence where you close your eyes and you get really
- 5:03present and you listen to the sounds around you.
- 5:06You really ground yourself. You don't, you don't do anything
- 5:09other than allowing yourself to settle a little bit.
- 5:14You might, you know these. You might take a walk around the
- 5:17block on your lunch break and maybe grab a friend if you want
- 5:20to, to do it with you. These are all things and spaces
- 5:23and time that already exist in your calendar that you don't
- 5:27have to find that you might be able to find some ways to fill
- 5:31your cup in these moments and take advantage of the time
- 5:35that's already there. Some other things to think
- 5:38about. And I really want you to sit
- 5:41with this this week to help you tap into this important time for
- 5:47self-care. As if you're having trouble
- 5:49identifying what your self-care should look like, try writing
- 5:53down all the emotions you are feeling at the beginning of the
- 5:56day and then that can guide you on what you need, you know,
- 6:00depending on what those emotions are.
- 6:01Woody, do you need a little more space in your calendar?
- 6:04Do you need to move some meetings to allow yourself some
- 6:07space in between to regroup and refresh?
- 6:10Do you need a really vigorous workout, really kind of move
- 6:14some angst out and or you're feeling a lot of energy and you
- 6:17need to move some of that out? Do you need a restful mindful
- 6:22yoga exercise or meditation or walk out in nature?
- 6:26Really paying attention to those emotions you're feeling and then
- 6:29tending to what it is you need to help meet you that day.
- 6:34And like I said, if you're feeling stressed or anxious,
- 6:37that comes up, you know, there it's everybody's real deals with
- 6:41their stress and anxiety differently.
- 6:43Some people need something vigorous to work out.
- 6:45Some people need a breathing exercise, some people need some
- 6:49stretching or some yoga or some plotties.
- 6:52And some days you need all the above.
- 6:54I mean, so it just depends on who you are and what meets you
- 6:57that day and how your body needs to work it through.
- 7:01So just being open to what it is and how you operate and
- 7:06remembering this is unique for all of us.
- 7:08We it's important to to not get stuck in what other people do or
- 7:12what you've heard is the best thing.
- 7:14Find the best thing is for you. And, and, and be curious about
- 7:19it and stay open to what's possible.
- 7:22Stay patient, but remember that don't give up on this and that
- 7:28you're worthy of this and that this is not only benefiting you,
- 7:32but everyone around you. But yeah, thinking of those
- 7:37things that will nourish you and then use one of those as a
- 7:41catalyst to get started settling those nervous system
- 7:47opportunities throughout the day.
- 7:49It might mean setting, you know, if you're having in a high
- 7:52stress situation at work or a high stress situation in your
- 7:55personal life or family. Sometimes that means really
- 7:58intentionally setting your alarm clock for at once every hour.
- 8:03You stop for three to 5 minutes, walk around the block outside,
- 8:08do some intentional box breathing exercises, sit
- 8:12outside, breathe in the fresh air, listen to the birds without
- 8:16any noise. You know, whatever that thing
- 8:18is. So just meeting yourself where
- 8:21you are each day, the most important thing is that you
- 8:25carve out that time because you are worthy, you are valuable,
- 8:30and you get to choose. And if you need more help with
- 8:32this, reach out to me on embracinglayers.com on that

- 8:38going to support you in this area to get this in your
- 8:41calendar. Remember, we prioritize what we
- 8:43value and those things make our calendar.
- 8:46Make sure that you are the first one that goes in and then you're
- 8:50scheduling around that and not being the first one that goes
- 8:53those out when things get hectic.
- 8:56Take good care of yourselves. I hope you found this
- 8:58supportive. We'll see you next time here on
