- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Here's your host, Dustin Broome.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Hey, what's going on, guys?
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Welcome to episode 50 of the Massive Agent Podcast.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Woo! We made it to 50.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: We've been doing this for almost a year now.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for if this is your first episode or your 50th, thank you.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I appreciate your attention and I appreciate you and your support more than you will ever know.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: So thank you for that.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: This is a really exciting show today.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We're bringing on Chelsea Pites.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: She's one of my one of my best friends on the planet.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: We've known each other for three or four years now.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: We actually met on Snapchat, and she is, aside from just being a great person, a hilarious person, someone who's very, very knowledgeable and very uh on point and up to date with what's going on in social media marketing, what's going on with all the different social networks, what new stuff has come out, what new stuff is coming out, how to use it, uh, consumer behavior, branding.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Like she's very, very good at this.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And so I thought that there's no one better to have on the show to help you guys prepare, and really to help teach me some stuff too, to prepare for a massive 2019.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Because if you're just waiting till the holidays are over, and then you know, January 2nd, you're gonna roll into the office and be like, oh, I think now I'll start killing it.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: I'll start crushing it now.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: You you're behind everyone who's crushing it now.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: So like just just work.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It's it's simple.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: It's not easy, but it's simple.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Chelsea's gonna tell us what we should be focusing on.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: So if you guys are new to the show, or if you are old to the show, I'm gonna just use that every show now because it's it's weird, but it's mine.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Um because no one else says it, because it's not a thing.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: But anyways, if you if you don't know who I am, I am your host, Dustin Brome.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I'm the founder of the Massive Agent Society.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: I'm a national speaker, trainer, and coach.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: I'm a realtor with EXP Realty in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I'm the co-founder of LeadsWebinar.com with my good friend Jason Frazier, who's the CMO of WiseAgent CRM and the CEO and founder of The Agent Marketer.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: We do uh leadswebinar.com together.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And uh I am basically I'm a marketing guy.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: I'm a marketer who happens to sell homes.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: I started out selling homes and realized through doing all the wrong shit that you need to market.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: If you're gonna be a successful agent, it's all about marketing, 100%.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: You could be the best agent on the planet, but if no one knows you exist, and if you can't get new business coming in the door, you're screwed.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: You could you're gonna starve to death, even though you may have the best experience that a client will ever have, but it's all about letting people know about it.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: That is marketing.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: So I found through doing that I'm a I'm a great marketer who just happens to be selling homes.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: And so I started this podcast back in January 2018 to help share some of my knowledge with you guys, share some of my experience with you guys, help you guys to sell more homes and change, change some of the crap that you were doing that that wasn't working into start focusing on what is working.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: And this year has been amazing.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Uh at episode 50, I'm kind of reflecting a little bit on just how much I've changed as a person since I launched this, how much awesome feedback I've got from you guys, from from listeners, and and new relationships I've built, and and the uh the Massive Agent Society that we launched in April.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And that's our Facebook ads lead generation system.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: It's a database of proven ads that you can copy and paste.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: It's coaching, it's support, it's a private Facebook group, lots of stuff that if you're if you want to generate leads, you need to check out what we do over at the Massive Agent Society, MassiveAtSociety.com.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And that's all I'll say about that because let I want to get into the show here.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: So we have Chelsea on today.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, sorry, real quick.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: So this episode's coming out the morning of December 6th, Thursday the 6th.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: If you're hearing this in the morning, just know at 1 p.m.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Eastern time is when we're doing our free webinar.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: If you haven't registered for that webinar yet, you still have time.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: There's still some seating available, very few, but go to MassiveAnPodcast.com slash free webinar, MassiveAgent Podcast.com slash free webinar, and the webinar, it's a free online training on the five ways to generate a hundred or more new leads this month.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: And it's not all Facebook ads, guys.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Don't worry if you're like, oh well, uh sure you can tell me the ways, but I can't afford to run ads.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Uh most even though I a lot of my business, my the Massive Agent Society and coaching that I do and and consultation with mortgage companies and loan officers and agents, when it comes to Facebook ads, even though that's what I do and I love it, I still get most of my most of my clients organically from Facebook.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: So uh most of the stuff that we're gonna be sharing in the webinar is organic stuff that you can do.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: So be there.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: And if you can't be there live, register anyways.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: You can watch the replay later, you will get a replay link.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: So that's happening in just a few hours.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Hopefully you're listening to this on Thursday morning.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: This is why it's so important to subscribe to the show.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: If you subscribe, this this podcast is gonna be downloaded immediately in your podcasting app, or whether that's on Spotify or Stitcher or or Apple Podcasts, wherever.

- 6:02SPEAKER_00: So I do have a big speaking schedule coming up over the next month and a half or so.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: So December 17th, I'm speaking at uh this is an online virtual summit called Marketing Interrupt that's put on by the Agent Marketer.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: I'm speaking on December 17th about podcasting, podcasting secrets.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: So if you wanted to get into podcasting or flash briefings, go to go to marketinginterrupt.com, check out uh how you can register for that event.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: It's a four-day event that you can watch and learn, learn from, from the comfort of your own chair, from the comfort of your own phone.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: You don't have to travel to this conference.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: It's online, it's a virtual summit, and I'm super excited to be part of that on December 17th.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Then Agent 2021, Gary Vaynerchuk, and Vayner Media's event on January 17th in Miami.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: I'm speaking there with Chelsea Pitts, our guest.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: We're gonna be speaking there together, and uh we'll we're gonna talk more about that in the show, and just what Agent 2021 means, the experience, what we're looking forward to, how it how it came to be, all that stuff.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Then I'm speaking at Inman Connect New York on January 29th about podcasting, how to start a podcast.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: That's gonna be an amazing, uh, amazing talk there.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So if you're gonna be at Inman Connect, definitely reach out.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I have another speaking opportunity in Bakersfield, California on, let's see, February, let's see, February 6th in Bakersfield, California.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: It's not 100% confirmed, but I should be there in Bakersfield on February 6th, and then possibly February 11th and 12th at Snowbird in Utah.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Can't announce that because it's not solidified yet, but lots of speaking opportunities coming up.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And if you guys have any conferences that you're putting on, that you're sponsoring, or that you're trying to find people for, whether that's a panelist, keynote, a trainer, uh, whatever, let let me know.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: I'm speaking is something that I plan on really tripling down on in 2019, and and I'm picking up a lot more, um, a lot more speaking gigs.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: And so if you need a keynote for a conference or a training, let's talk and see if what uh you know and see if I could bring the value that you're looking for for your audience to that.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, so let's bring on Chelsea Pitts.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Chelsea is you might know her from Snapchat, Chelsea Chat, the I can't even say it, her intro that she does on Snapchat, like real estate marketing, Snappily Ever After.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Something.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: It's it's funny, you should watch her on Snapchat.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: But that's where we met years ago, and and then we met in person uh with a group of us at the real estate marketing mastermind in Park City, and we'll talk about that.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: But ever since we met in person, we've just been, we've become great friends, and she's also someone I really look up to and respect.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: She's very knowledgeable when it comes to branding, social market, social media marketing, uh, you know, technology, stuff like that.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: And and so she's the perfect one to talk about how you should be preparing for 2019 with all the new stuff coming out, all the all the new shit that that Alexa's doing, and all the new, you know, LinkedIn possibly uh coming out with stories and you know, LinkedIn actually being awesome again, and you know, stuff like that.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: You've got to know what to focus on going into 2019.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: That's what we're gonna talk about.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: So Chelsea is the national director of social sales for Fidelity National Financial.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: That's a big deal.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: She is when it comes to social selling, she's it for this big public, publicly traded company.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: She's a national speaker.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: She's been on, she speaks at almost every great real estate conference out there.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: She's an author uh of a book about Snapchat and what Snapchat has meant for uh for society and for uh consumer attention.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Uh there's a link to her book over in our Amazon store.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: And so just go to massive agentpodcast.com/slash resources, and there's a link to our store.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: It's in our store.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: You can go check out her book and get it from Amazon there.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: She just launched a flash briefing called The Voice of Social Sales, which I highly recommend you guys enable on your Alexa device, and a podcast by the same name that uh she's I believe she says is she's on episode three, and that's found wherever fine podcasts are sold as well.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Spotify, iHeartRadio, Apple, iTunes, all that good stuff.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: So Chelsea's fun, she's funny, but extremely knowledgeable.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited to sit down with her.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Let's get into it.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Hey, what's up, guys?
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I'm here with Chelsea Pites, the Chelsea Pites, Chelsea Chat, and there's like a thousand other awesome nicknames.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Some of them are NSFW.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Not really.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: But Chelsea, if you guys don't know Chelsea Pites, she is the National Director of Social Sales for Fidelity National title.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: And she is a she's definitely a um, she's I don't even know what to call you.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: I I don't know if I should be like flattered by that or totally offended.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Thank God I've already recorded an intro where I I properly introduce you.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: So this this is just we'll just roll with this.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Because I want to hear you describe yourself.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: This could be this could be good.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So, Chelsea, who are you?
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: I uh I like as you said, I'm the national director of social sales for F and F.
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: We own uh a lot of amazing title and insurance companies, and uh I've been involved with that corporation for almost a decade.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: And prior to that, I was a real estate agent uh for uh about 10 years.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: So I did real estate back in the day before we had social media.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: So I I get what it's like to be in those shoes, and it's a very different world and it's continuing to evolve.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: And what I do now for the company is um I work with our sales force and I and I train them and teach them how to use social sales.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: So it's my passion, and I get to do what I love every single day.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: So you you're the director of social sales for not just Fidelity National title, but for Fidelity National Financial.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, cool, awesome.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: See, I was understating your awesomeness.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I apologize.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: I should just put, you know, awesome on the business card, right?
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: No.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: I thought I thought you did.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: I saw one of those circulating.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: No?
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: That's just the one that I gave to you.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Uh so this is weird because a lot of you guys know Chelsea from Instagram and from Snapchat and from the stages of the real estate industry, because she speaks at Inmin, she speaks at well, she's pretty much every major comp conference she's spoken at.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: And so you know her there, but I know Chelsea from Snapchat.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: I know Chelsea from like three, three and a half, four years ago.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: What I think it was like three years ago, that we met on Snapchat along with Shannon Milligan, Jason Frazier, Bucky Beaman, a few others.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: And and so we built this relationship on Snapchat years ago, and and then when we we met in Park City, Utah for the first time th uh that's three years ago now.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, three years ago.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: Uh it's wild, right?
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, here we are.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're you're much younger than I am, but um, here we go.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Much much younger, yes.
- 13:04SPEAKER_03: And we got connected because we were all the group of us that you just mentioned there.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: We were featured in an article together, and I didn't even know you guys.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, oh, let me follow these people and see what they're all about.
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: And I don't even remember how we all started chatting, but I do remember we started talking every single day.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: And one day I was like, you guys, this is too much.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: We need to take this off of Snapchat because we are talking too much all day long.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: And uh yeah, now fast forward three, four years later, we've worked together, we've spoken together.
- 13:35SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I've traveled with Shannon many times.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: It's just incredible to me that our lives have been completely changed by meeting on Snapchat.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: It's very bizarre to me.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: It really is bizarre, and the thread that connects all these different things from happening is so thin.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: And like if if one thing didn't happen, if that article had not been written, who knows what our lives would be like?
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Like not just would we have met.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: No, just kidding.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: That was love, you're like Michael.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Your little brother, your little shit brother that yeah, exactly.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that there's been so much that's happened since we met on Snapchat and really, really since we met in person in Park City for that real estate marketing mastermind the first year we did it.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Um tell tell me real quick and tell everyone real quick, because I've talked about this on the show before, but when when you the reason why video and Snapchat and Instagram stories in particular are so powerful is people get to know you, even though they're not sitting there with you face to face, it's still face to face.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: And so what what was your experience like when you met my when you met me, when you met Jason and Chelsea and Bucky for the first time?
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: What was that like?
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Were were we the way you thought we'd be?
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Were we completely different?
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Uh tell us about that.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was it was wild because we met each other and it it was like we were just picked up from the conversation we had just left off when we had been snapping each other earlier in the day, or it it was it was literally as if we had been friends for years.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: There was this sort of accelerated uh friendship that happened because you're right, we were literally watching each other every single day.
- 15:20SPEAKER_03: And not we're we weren't watching this like, you know, edited YouTube type of cinematic film experience.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: We were just hanging out in each other's houses and living rooms and cars and and hearing each other's thoughts.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: And after you see somebody every day in their day-to-day, that often, you really truly feel like you know them.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: And a lot of people say when I meet them, oh my gosh, I feel like I already know you and that we're already friends.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, well, we are.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: You do know me.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: That is that is me.
- 15:49SPEAKER_03: That is my life.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: And and I certainly couldn't be anyone else after three, three and a half years of every single day.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: My life is is on social media.
- 15:59SPEAKER_03: And you know, at some point, you either just have to be yourself or it's really hard to keep up that game of putting on some sort of like persona of who you want to be and project out there.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: Um, so for me, it's just really interesting.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: That's why I'm so fascinated by the psychology of how these kinds of platforms, the visual nature of it, is really connecting people at a really deep level.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Uh it's uh I can't even imagine having to portray yourself as someone you're not or like pretend to be a persona, pretend to be a character on Instagram or Snapchat, because I can't imagine how exhausting that would be.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: How could you keep that up?
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: It would be really exhausting.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: And and hey, we all know people that do it.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, that that's what actors do, that's how what they get paid for.
- 16:44SPEAKER_03: And there's a lot of people on YouTube and even social media and Instagram that portray that persona and get paid very well for it.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Um, for me, I personally think it would be exhausting.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: I've never tried it, so I don't know.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's not as tiring as I think, but um, yeah, I think that would be really challenging and honestly really disappointing for me when I've met people that I thought were one way perhaps on social media or on TV or movies or what have you, and then you meet them and you're like, oh man, this isn't quite what I expected.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: It's kind of disappointing.
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: Um, so I think that's getting harder to to fool people, truly.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: And we've, like you said, we've all met people that were not the way we thought they'd be because they they're slightly and it's usually not a major difference.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: It's not like they speak with an accent in real life and then on on Instagram they get rid of their accent.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: It's not that's not what I mean, but little differences, like just hiding little things or being more polished than you normally are.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: It then when you meet someone, it's like, what?
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Like that's not that's weird.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: I I don't know that person that way.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: So well, and you and you are very authentic on your social media on on Snap and Instagram with your let's talk about your your what happens after work with the gray t-shirts and the messy hair.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, hashtag grayshirt.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: It's very, it's it's my nod to Mr.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Rogers.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: Like, I know that sounds funny, but I do love Mr.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: Rogers.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Like, he is such a beloved fixture in my life.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: I grew up with him, and I remember he would come home every single time he'd walk into his door, he would take off his shoes, he would take off his cardigan, he would change out into like his inside clothes, I call them.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: There was outside clothes and inside clothes, and I also have outside clothes and inside clothes.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: It just so happens I only have one item that's inside clothing that seems to have taken on a life of its own.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: In fact, I believe I should get an Instagram channel just for gray shirt.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: That's what I call her, gray shirt and gray.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: And everyone's like, oh look, there's your gray shirt again.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: I do wash it, um, not every day, but I do also have a few gray shirts.
- 18:53SPEAKER_03: But apparently that has become a thing that people uh have have noticed about me that I wear the same gray t-shirt after the hours, you know, of 5 30 every day.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Well, and that's what makes you likable too.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, it it's goofy, you're just like being yourself, you're being ridiculous at times, but that's that's you being you, and it it makes you more likable.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: If if you're all if you're constantly just polished and and you feel scripted and everything, like it's hard to like someone like that on a on a deep personal level.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: You you can respect them professionally, but like as far as liking them, and we all know that in sales, people are people are gonna work with those they know, like, and trust.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Like is huge.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: That's why we're constantly talking about Instagram, constantly talking about Snapchat, video in general, you just have to do it.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: And Instagram and Snapchat are two very, very easy ways to do that.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Chelsea, are you still doing Snapchat too?
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: Yep, I do do Snapchat.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: I have some really great friendships that are there.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: I still feel that it's a little bit of a different ecosystem over there than on Instagram, but I also am heavily involved with Instagram.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Um, also getting much more involved with Facebook stories as well.
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: So I stories is really my jam, period.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: Like that's my social platform.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: I personally believe that all social media is going to become like these stories.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: I don't know what that looks like yet, but that is for sure my jam.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: I'm less of a feed person, more of a stories person.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: And I think what's really interesting, and you kind of just hit the nail on the head about the whole like conversation you just had, there is absolutely a difference between um somebody who's looking for anyone.
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: Doesn't matter if it's a real estate agent or a lender, any kind of industry, if you have something out there that's that's visual, like a story, people automatically they don't even realize it.
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: They automatically like you more.
- 20:52SPEAKER_03: They don't realize that's happening, but there's this little tiny inkling of, I kind of feel like I know this person.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: And if you're not there, they're gonna go with somebody else who is, even if they're not as qualified as you may be, which is the end of the story.
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: Like that's the final chapter.
- 21:09SPEAKER_03: It's like if you're not there where people are expecting you to be now, they're going to pick somebody who is less qualified, possibly, just simply because they've watched their stories for the last two months and they feel like they might know this person a little bit.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Look, like the best example of it all of just how we've changed it as a society and how qualifications are not nearly as as much of a priority as uh name recognition, likability.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: Like, do they are you a celebrity?
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Are you an influencer?
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Look at who our president is.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: He's a retail reality TV star.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: And sure, he's he was a successful businessman for sure, but he was a celebrity businessman, which if he wasn't, if he was just a real estate mogul, but he wasn't a celebrity, he wouldn't be president.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: And and then you hear about Oprah and um the rock.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: And and all these celebrities being talked about for president now, it's like, dear God, that's but that's that's who we are.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's all about who do you like?
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Like people follow influencers now.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: And if you're uh whether your qualifications are there or not, it it almost doesn't matter to a lot of people.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: It really is about do you like someone and what your perception is?
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: It's all about perception of your brand.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: And brand is really kind of like honestly a mixture of your content and your algorithms and people's perceptions.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: And that's really what it is these days.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: And people will make a judgment immediately if you don't have some sort of digital presence.
- 22:43SPEAKER_03: And what they are all getting trained right now for, behaviorally trained, is that expectation of I want your digital presence to be in a story format, micro content.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: I want to see your face, I want to feel like you're talking to me.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: And the more that stories become bigger and bigger and bigger, the more the expectations are going to be that that's what you're going to have.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, in five years, if you don't have a podcast, people are probably gonna be like, whoa, you don't have a podcast, I'm not gonna work with you.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: Because that's such a huge explosion in how we consume content.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: So those are the things that you need to be thinking about is, you know, the a lot I love it when people say, Well, I've been so successful for so many years and I've never done any of that.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: Well, that's cool.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: But, you know, how many of you don't use Netflix or Amazon now?
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: And that's really where this is going for branding.
- 23:29SPEAKER_03: Digital presence, you have to look outside of our industry and look at those things and how people's behaviors are changing.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: Industry is completely irrelevant.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: It's all about the behavioral training that we're all getting right now.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: I cannot agree more.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: I think that is so, so important and it trumps industry.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: It trumps like all the details.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: It's like what I don't care what you did 10 years ago that got you to sell a home a day.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: Like that was in that world.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, we're now in 2019 where people expect things instantly.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: People watch Instagram stories all day long.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: That's how they consume content.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: They when as soon as a commercial comes on TV, if they even watch TV, they they get on their phones.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Uh people want their package delivered an hour after they order it.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Like people, it's just a different world.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: And you have to start marketing that way.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: And that's why that's why I think your message, Chelsea, resonates with so many people, and why I'm so glad that you are getting the exposure that you have speaking at all these conferences, is you're waking people up.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: And I'm trying to wake people up with this show, and whenever my mouth is open, I'm just trying to get people to wake up.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: But whether or not they listen is up to them.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: But there's some craziness that's about to happen in this industry in real estate and mortgage, and like I can see it coming.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: I know you can, but I I just think people aren't honest with themselves.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's tough to, you know, embrace those changes because again, sometimes we're in our own little worlds.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: But I had this example that happened to me the other day, and it was as somebody who's in it, like you and I are in it.
- 25:05SPEAKER_03: Like we are all around the disruption, we're all around embracing that.
- 25:09SPEAKER_03: How do we roll with the punches?
- 25:11SPEAKER_03: But even though, as somebody who is like that, this experience just hit me like a ton of bricks the other day.
- 25:19SPEAKER_03: I went to Whole Foods, and I think pretty much everybody knows now that Amazon bought Whole Foods.
- 25:25SPEAKER_03: And so I go in there and I'm shopping, and I looked around, and I just have this weird feeling.
- 25:30SPEAKER_03: Like the people that were there shopping just it seemed odd to me, like there was just something about their vibes.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: So I stopped in the aisle and I started looking around.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: They they seemed lost, is what it was.
- 25:40SPEAKER_03: And when I go to the grocery store, I kind of know where I'm going in the aisles and all that.
- 25:44SPEAKER_03: I look around every single aisle out of the three people, me being one of them in every single aisle, the other two people worked for Amazon.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: They were shopping for other people.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: And they were like, you know, looking around because they're looking at a list and trying to figure out what that person wanted.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: And that's when I was like, whoa, this is really weird.
- 26:04SPEAKER_03: I felt like it was in some crazy movie where I was the only actual real shopper, and everybody else in there was buying stuff for other people that they were delivering in like next hour, and they all had these like lanyards on that said Amazon now.
- 26:17SPEAKER_03: And I was like, this is so creepy, but awesome, because now I'm gonna go home and I'm gonna order it.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: So that was a really strange experience.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, geez.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I mean, just now my wife just placed an order online through click list from Kroger, and she's gonna just drive up and pick up her groceries, she doesn't have to go inside anymore.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and uh most places are doing that if they don't offer delivery right to you.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: Uh uh Amazon does, we don't have that in Salt Lake yet, damn it, but it's coming.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: But but that's just what we're getting used to more and more.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: So uh Chelsea, you mentioned stories and how as stories continue to catch on and more places have stories, uh we're gonna expect it more.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: I've heard on your on your awesome flash briefing, uh, the voice of social sales on Alexa.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: And I Chelsea, every time I mention the A-word, I forget to unplug it.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Hold on.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: There we go.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Um your flash briefing on Alexa is awesome.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: And you mentioned the other day something about stories on a particular platform that's really been rejuvenated lately.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Tell us about that.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: Starts with an L.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I am excited to hear about this because LinkedIn is such a great platform.
- 27:32SPEAKER_03: Look, you turn my Alexa on.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you can hear her, but she's talking now.
- 27:35SPEAKER_03: So LinkedIn is a platform that a lot of people have a perception around, right?
- 27:44SPEAKER_03: We were just talking about that.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Uh the perception is it's boring, it's stale, it's resume only, it's for people looking for jobs, and that's it.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: That's maybe where it was two years ago, but it's really been evolving.
- 27:55SPEAKER_03: And for those content creators, which I consider you and me like the average everyday person, it's absolutely a great place to go because they've changed their algorithms lately.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: And it's rewarding those folks who are like you and me, who aren't, you know, the Richard Bransons or these very high-level top 1% people.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: They were getting all the love before.
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: So that's a great thing there.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: The secondary piece is that they're testing out stories in LinkedIn.
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: Now, you and I both know that there's a language to every platform and users uh, you know, take to one thing or another, which is kind of why people haven't really picked up on Facebook stories yet.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: They just didn't really get it.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: Well, people in LinkedIn are certainly not going to be as adept at using stories as somebody who's a heavy Instagram user because it's not quite the language yet, which means a lot of people say to me, I don't want to use it because I'm not getting any views.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: Well, you should use it when you're not getting any views because you'll be the very first person who is in there with then when everybody figures it out.
- 28:51SPEAKER_03: So it's it's such an opportunity for me.
- 28:53SPEAKER_03: And I think people are like, I don't want to do that because nobody's gonna get it, nobody's gonna, you know, watch anything.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: I'm like, yeah, but you'll be the first adopter.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: You'll be the first person that's actually doing it.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: So I have not personally tested it yet.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: I have heard a rumor that it's being tested, and some people have seen it.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: I have zero idea when it's gonna come out, but when it does, I absolutely will be using it.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: See, I'm half of me is excited about that, and half of me is like, oh my god.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: Another but I mean, it is what it is.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: It's like what are they gonna do?
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Say, oh, well, you know, people say that that'll be too much, so we're not gonna do it.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: And of course they're gonna do it.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: And then it's like, do you do you wanna be first?
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: Do you want to be one of those people that grabs market share before everyone floods to it a year or two later or whatever or however?
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: Sure, you could just put your line in the sand and say, I'm not doing it, but then you're gonna be kicking yourself in the ass at that lost opportunity.
- 29:47SPEAKER_03: So Yeah, you you gotta be one of the first or one of the best.
- 29:50SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 29:51SPEAKER_03: Those are your only two options.
- 29:53SPEAKER_03: You have to be one of the first or one of the best.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: You don't have to be first to it, but you better get real good at it once it's rolling.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: So, all right, 2019 is just a couple weeks away, a few weeks away.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: What are what are the big things that you've that you've seen that we should be uh that we should have our eyes open for and expecting and looking out for in 2019 as far as social media marketing goes?
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Big announcements.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think in in my mind, two really big things.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, I think you heard me talk about this before, but in um October, I think it was well, it might have been a little earlier this year, Facebook has dropped a really big bomb.
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: But the funny thing is that they're really sly about how these drop they drop these huge announcements, right?
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: And almost like nobody realizes or catches that it's even happened until it's happened.
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: And what I think is so interesting is that the last couple of weeks, it's been real glitchy in both Instagram and Facebook.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: So I knew that they were making some huge changes to the platform.
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: And uh I I I really believe they're going all in, both on Facebook and Instagram, on the stories.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: And and the feed is going to be, I don't, I don't want to say it's gonna go away because I don't know that for sure, but it seems like that's the track they're going on.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: Now, the big thing to me it that they didn't really um really clarify, but you have to remember Facebook is all about making money, as is any for-profit company.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: That's why Facebook ads are so incredibly important in their ecosystem.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: So, why would they move their moneymaker?
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: They're making money in the feed all day long with ads.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: Why would they go all in on a product?
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: They don't know how to monetize yet.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: That is a huge, huge shift.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: And in the bigger picture, in the human behavior picture, it's because they realize that's what we want.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: We want real, we want engagement, we want two eyeballs and a face, right?
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: That's what we want.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: And so that's a big deal because Facebook's like, hey, we're going all in, the future is stories, and we're leaving behind the millions of dollars we're making every second to try to figure out how to monetize this area.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: So, number one, that, which also leads to you need to start moving your ads to stories.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be a little bit harder because we can tap through all that stuff, and you have to have a very different mentality with a story ad than you do a feed ad because you've got to capture people almost instantaneously.
- 32:20SPEAKER_03: And I don't know that we've really figured out the process for that.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, you're a you're a Facebook ads expert, you teach a lot of people how to do it, you have your process down pat.
- 32:29SPEAKER_03: I would even venture to say that even you, who is very talented in that arena, hasn't quite got your your story ad figured out yet.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: Is that fair to say?
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's a different animal, it really is, because the culture or the language that you said earlier is different in stories than it is in a feed.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: It just is.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: And I've had some swipe up ads on Instagram that have worked well, uh, specifically for the podcast, trying to get people to uh who are not listeners to click and listen.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: I've had some that worked well and others that just totally bombed, where it's like it's just different.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: And so yeah, you've got to approach it differently.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see how advertisers figure that out.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Um, the other big trend, which is no surprise to you, and I'm not gonna say the name, I'm going to say Lexi, um, is that's going everywhere.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: Uh and you know, we again we don't really have a mindset around what does that look like.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I always laugh when I think of people, I'm trying to explain, you know, skills and flash briefing.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: And I have to go back to one of my favorite movies, uh, which is an 80s reference, Back to the Future, when they're sitting down at dinner and he's like, oh yeah, I saw that on a rerun.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: And their faces are blank.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: They're like, what's a rerun?
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: That's where we're at right now with trying to say, here's what we can do with Lexi, here's what we can do with these types of devices.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: And we and we don't have to just think of it as this like individual, sitting on your counter circular device, right?
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: It's being built into BMWs, it's built into the new Fords, it's now in the Facebook portal, which just coming out for the holiday season.
- 34:05SPEAKER_03: And now it's in office equipment.
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: You guys, it's everywhere.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be built in in everything we do.
- 34:11SPEAKER_03: And as like we're talking here, like if Dustin and I were in in my house and we were sitting here chatting about, oh, you know, we should repaint the house.
- 34:19SPEAKER_03: I don't really like this color.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: It's gonna get smart enough to say, those are cues.
- 34:23SPEAKER_03: Think about Facebook ads or looking at behavior and cues.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: So if I go to a paint store or Home Depot, it may think, hey, wait a minute, this person's uh showing behaviors that may indicate they want to buy or sell a home.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: Same thing, it's just listening.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: And we're gonna say, yeah, I think that other, I think blue would be better in here.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: And then it would say, Hey, would you like me to connect you with five painters?
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: And also your neighbor, two doors down, just sold their house for X, Y, and Z.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: Would you like me to connect you?
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: That's what's gonna happen.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: And so people really need to get on it now because in I think two years or less, that's pretty much gonna be where we're at.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: It's like when Snapchat first came out, and then Instagram stories came out, and everybody knew how to use it because Snapchat was already here.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: So I think those are the two biggest trends for for 2019.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: I would have to agree with that, and I think you're even understating Alexa, though.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: I think you're understating that a little bit because we just had Black Friday and Cyber Monday where Amazon blows out their echo devices.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: Like they don't make money on those guys.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Do you know why they do that?
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: They do that just to get them in more hands.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Like they were selling the dots for for$19.99, for God's sakes.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: It's crazy.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: It is crazy.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: And what that does is it gets them in millions of more homes, and and you know, people start getting them in not just their kitchen, but now in their office, in their bedroom, in the bathroom, and they start putting them in multiple rooms, and it just builds this huge infrastructure so then people can use that to buy more stuff through Amazon.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: And you talk about behavior training, like you and I have young kids.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: I have a kid that's almost going to be six.
- 35:57SPEAKER_03: When you're a kid, when you see your kid almost six, say, you know, Lexi, put milk on the list.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: Like, okay, now that is huge, right?
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: We're we're having our children talk to a thing, and knowing that once they talk to that thing, it's going to do something for us or order something or remind us of something.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: It's it's totally crazy to me.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: I still feel like it's, you know, 2050, and I'm like, this is you know, robots in the house.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: It's just weird to me, even though you and I both do it and use flash briefings, it's it just blows my mind.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: It's well, it happens so fast.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: It's hard not to kind of when you get those moments of of reflection and and you're like, holy crap, this has all happened in just the last year.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Or you guys realize the iPhone's only been around for 10 years.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: 10 years.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: And I refused to get one.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: I was like, I'm not gonna get an iPhone.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: I would never spend six hundred dollars on an iPhone.
- 36:49SPEAKER_03: Like, I have a flip phone, it works great.
- 36:51SPEAKER_03: And of course, now you know I'm like, oh, a thousand dollars for that X?
- 36:54SPEAKER_03: Wow, yes, where can I sign up?
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: Like, how fast can I get one?
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: Yep, and an egg uh and who can I pay to get this thing quicker, you know?
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: Like exactly.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a totally, totally different world.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: And I think once the data comes out about this Black Friday and this Cyber Monday that we just had, and then Christmas too, once the holidays are done and Amazon releases how many more homes have Alexa devices, it's it's gonna be so dumb.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Uh uh Some of you are gonna be so pissed that you didn't do a flash briefing, or that you didn't take the time to learn what one is, or you didn't take the time to do a podcast or start listening to podcasts because voice is the future.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: I spent uh an ungodly amount of money earlier this year to go to New York City to Gary Vaynerchuck's and uh Vayner Media's VoiceCon conference.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: It was just a one-day thing, and uh that changed everything for me.
- 37:49SPEAKER_00: I even though I already had this podcast going, this has been going since January 2018, and I went in May, but it solidified yes, you're on the right track with your podcast, and you need to triple down on it, and you need to do a flash briefing, and you need to learn skills, and you need to eventually figure out Google Home because you have executives from Google, from Chase, from Diagio, from a bunch of these giant multi-billion dollar brands saying, Oh yeah, we're all in on this.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: Like, oh yeah, of course we're doing flash briefings, of course we're doing our own skills.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Why wouldn't you?
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: And that's kind of telling.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: And then Facebook comes and includes Alexa in their new portal device.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: BMW has Alexa, Ford.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Um I think there's like a dozen auto manufacturers that as of this moment right now have Alexa built into their cars.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: And the new builds, the new builders.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: So we've got Lenar, KB Home, and I'm sure they're just the beginning that are making smart homes and putting in these devices.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: I think one of them has Google, one of them has Alexa.
- 38:49SPEAKER_03: So it's gonna be really interesting to see what happens with that.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: And I I think the biggest mistake people make, and I'm we all do this to a certain extent over a certain period of time, but we were like, you know what?
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: I can't like that thing, I know you're saying podcasting, and I know you're saying flash briefings are gonna be huge and Alexa's gonna be huge, but I'm not seeing it, you know, because it's just this little dot device and it just tells me the weather and lets me add stuff to my shopping list or play music.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: And people can't see or envision what it could be.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: You know, the what we see now is just what we see now.
- 39:27SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: A year from now, it's gonna be so much more robust and do so much more, and it's gonna be so much more inter intertwined into our lives.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: You mentioned your son that's like, you know, add milk to the list.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: My boy is he's four and a half, and he's like, he's like, Alexa, play music by marshmallow.
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Alexa, what's the weather like today?
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: And and he loves it.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: And then he'll come to my my MacBook and try to swipe the screen and push a button and try to talk to Alexa on my laptop.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: Like that's normal.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: And that's what's happening to our society.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: It yeah, it's it's kind of scary but awesome at the same time.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: I think it's cool.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, you have a flash briefing.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: Now, okay, your voice of social sales, is that also on podcasting platforms or is it just on Alexa?
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: It uh yes, I do have a podcast.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: I just started the podcast, so I think I'm I'm gonna record episode three this week of the voice of social sales.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: So it's the same name, uh, my flash briefing and my podcast.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: So I'm just now getting into the podcasting game.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: So and the podcasting will be a little bit more long form than the briefing?
- 40:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's about I would say 15 to 17 minutes.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: I, you know, me, I'm a very short to the point.
- 40:40SPEAKER_03: I don't do a lot of intros because that's what I like.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm making it for the niche that I like.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: I like to get right in, right out, and I feel like if people with short attention spans, then I'm the person for them.
- 40:50SPEAKER_03: But yeah, it's all about social media trends, kind of what we're talking about right here on this podcast.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: You'll find a lot of that there.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: See, and Chelsea's told me before that she hates my podcast because I have the intro.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: And, you know, so we we've talked about this, we've done the rounds.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: The first seven minutes.
- 41:06SPEAKER_03: I love your favorite podcast, though.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: Uh remove the first seven minutes, and I love your show.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: No, that's valid feedback too, because I uh, you know, because I I there's a lot of things I'm trying to promote too, like webinars, uh, the Massive Agent Society, you know, being with EXP, events I'm doing, places I'm speaking.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: And so I'm trying to find this balance of how do I let people know about that stuff, which is, you know, a lot of that is valuable to them too.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: It's not just about me.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: How do I do that in a way that doesn't uh get people to not listen?
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: And and it's you know, so your feedback is absolutely valid and valuable, so I appreciate it.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: You're not wrong, you know.
- 41:48SPEAKER_03: It's I feel like that's such a good topic.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: When you nail down exactly how to do it, then we all need to know.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: We all need to know how to do that because that that's the question we all ask.
- 41:59SPEAKER_03: How do we get all of our stuff marketed out there without overmarketing people?
- 42:03SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: So I feel like you know, I just gave you one of your next podcast topics.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 42:11SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, it it's it's interesting.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: And our friend Jason Frazier, he has no intro.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: He's just jumping, he's like, hey, it's Jason Fraser with uh the Agent Marketer podcast, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 42:21SPEAKER_03: I get right into it.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: Which is kind of cool.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, it, you know, it's all good.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: All right, Chelsea, what is what do you let's talk about Snapchat for a minute, because I admittedly haven't done hardly anything on Snapchat in months.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: I just I focused on Instagram, I focus on the podcast and all all the other stuff I have going on, and Snapchat is forgotten for me, which is unfortunate because Snapchat's kind of the one that brought me to the dance, so to speak.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: And that's how we met, and that's how so many doors have been opened for you and for me.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: I just don't do it anymore.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: W tell us about Snapchat.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: What's that like right now?
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: You know, uh it's it's kind of sad for me because honestly, what happened is they were a small company that grew really fast, and it's nothing like we haven't heard from any other type of company that grows really fast, has a lot of people that flock to it, and then goes public and all of that stuff.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: So I think they definitely had some growing pains in there.
- 43:21SPEAKER_03: Um, I think also, too, that the main reason that people left was because the user experience wasn't what they wanted.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: And they felt, at least I, speaking from my personal experience, I don't want to speak for the whole crowd, I felt like, you know what, I love this platform, and now you went and changed my user experience, and I'm unhappy about that.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: And meanwhile, what you had happen was admittedly, Instagram said yes, we did copy them.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: Like they fully said we copied it, it's a night, it's a great idea, we're gonna make our own.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: And they um kept making it better while everything else was going on with Snapchat.
- 43:58SPEAKER_03: And so people, again, all Also, I think get really caught up in numbers.
- 44:02SPEAKER_03: I never look at my numbers because I know myself.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: And it's just like getting on the scale.
- 44:07SPEAKER_03: I do not want to change myself or my content based on numbers.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: I know that's not for everyone, but a lot of people said, oh, I don't get the views anymore, so I'm just gonna go jump off of here and go to Instagram.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: So uh I think you had two of those types of things going on and you had some FOMO.
- 44:23SPEAKER_03: People didn't want to miss out on what they were hearing on Instagram.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: So all those three things combined really created this giant storm of people leaving.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Um, I still love it there.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: I still feel it's very different.
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: I feel it's really personal.
- 44:36SPEAKER_03: Um, I will stay there till the day it dies if it ever does die.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: But I definitely use the other platforms too.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: I love Instagram.
- 44:44SPEAKER_03: Instagram is really fun for me.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: I use it every single day.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: I love doing stories there.
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: Um and you know, all the people that leave one place go to another place and you get to connect with them there as well.
- 44:54SPEAKER_03: So um yeah, I wish they would have would have realized that sooner.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: And they did come out and admit, they said, listen, we made a big mistake, and we should not have changed that, but it is what it is.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: We did it, and now we're trying to, you know, fix it or bring it back to where it used to be.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: Well, I know Gary Vaynerchuk still t he still uses Snap, and I've heard him say recently within the last few months that Snapchat will come back.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, he said that.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that looks like.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: I don't think he knows what that looks like, but as we've seen, all it takes is one little tweak or one little feature being added or some functionality that changes everything.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: Like Instagram, when they added stories, changed everything.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 45:35SPEAKER_00: Snap just has to do something new, and you know, then everyone's back on Snap.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: It's right, right, exactly.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: And maybe I can so I I'm looking at my little triangular yellow padded case that holds my Snapchat spectacles, and it literally has a layer of dust on it.
- 45:52SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Those were cool for a couple weeks.
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: I still like it for the collectible value.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: Like I wanna I want a Facebook portal, not because I'm gonna use it, but you know, I I'm into social media and collecting things that go with it.
- 46:06SPEAKER_03: So for me, it's like collecting a jersey or a baseball card or whatever people collect.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: That's what I like about it.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, no, a lot of people have not used uh their spectacles like they used to.
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: Isn't that amazing that you're we're talking about the Snapchat spectacles as a freaking relic, as like an antique, something that belongs in a museum.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: I think it just goes to show.
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: I mean, if anything, I feel like it proves the point of people want to see your face.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: They don't want to see your perspective, they want to see you.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: And that's why I never used mine.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: People ask me all the time, why aren't you using your spectacles?
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: I'm like, because I like to use I like to use my face.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: I like to see you and talk to you.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: And for me, I could never get over that.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: So I personally think that's why they didn't fare well, in my opinion.
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that could be.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: That could be.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: And they were they're gimmicky when you look back at it, you know.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: I liked watching people with their with their spectacles on, but it just depends on what they're doing.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: Like I used to wear them when I'd go sledding with with my son.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: But people were just like in their office wearing them, like so that kind of killed it, I think.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Huh.
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 47:21SPEAKER_00: You mentioned the the Facebook portal, so Frazier called me the other day, and I so he doesn't usually call through Facebook Messenger, but I get this messenger video call from him, and I'm like, I wasn't gonna answer it.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: I was at Starbucks, and I'm like, eh.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: But I answer it and he was calling me on portal.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: That thing's cool.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: Have you seen that in action yet?
- 47:41SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, I watched his unboxing and I watched somebody else's unboxing that actually showed using it, and that was really interesting.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, I know you can add a few other apps.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: I think they had YouTube on there and a few other things, but um again, it feels very spectacle-ish to me at this point.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: You know, it's sort of novel.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: Uh, I don't know how often people will use it.
- 48:02SPEAKER_03: It almost feels a little bit like the the echo and the dots and all of that, too.
- 48:06SPEAKER_03: But I'm sure it's on my list of things to buy for sure.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: So I have I haven't actually physically personally done it myself, but I've seen some good unboxings and and first impressions on it.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: Uh it just being on that call helped me.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: Like I'm interested in one now.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: I want to get one now because it for voice calls, it's cool, especially in a business setting.
- 48:28SPEAKER_00: Like if you're gonna have a voice a voice uh teleconference thing, I'm to uh obviously I'm very corporate.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what the hell those things are called.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: But if you wanted to have a teleconference, very professional.
- 48:40SPEAKER_03: We're gonna have a teleconference about this.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Exactly, yes.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: Yes, everyone gather around for a teleconference.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: But it it tracks you around the room, it zooms in when you're talking.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: That's cool.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: I like that how it kind of follows you around.
- 48:56SPEAKER_03: That that part excites me for sure.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: So it's super cool as far as that goes.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: But who knows?
- 49:02SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Um so LinkedIn, I know you're big on LinkedIn, and you and you and Frazier have definitely gotten me more excited about LinkedIn.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: I love LinkedIn now.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm really enjoying it.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: Um, I find since they switched the algorithm that I'm getting a lot more engagement.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: Um, I find that LinkedIn, you know, now that we've all kind of tinkered around with it, it's very different as far as what people respond to there.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, I'm kind of used to the micro content at this point because of stories, and I realize that's not always what's working for me and my audience anyway, over on LinkedIn.
- 49:39SPEAKER_03: But it's it's interesting, and uh I am starting to really like it a lot more.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Uh tell us about the changes that have been made.
- 49:49SPEAKER_03: So um they came out, I think it was might have been a month or two ago, and they said, listen, we realize that we're penalizing, uh we didn't say it this way, but I'm gonna say it this way, the little person, the person that has a couple hundred connections.
- 50:03SPEAKER_03: And when they put a piece of content out, it was like crickets.
- 50:07SPEAKER_03: Nobody wanted to, you know, nobody was seeing it, nobody wanted to engage with it.
- 50:10SPEAKER_03: All the big people, like uh Robert Herzhivek from Sharp Tank, or anytime somebody big would post, they would basically get all the love and the engagement.
- 50:20SPEAKER_03: And what they were realizing is if I don't, if I'm posting stuff and nobody's engaging with it, then I'm probably not gonna stick around on that platform because it's not gonna be as fun for me.
- 50:29SPEAKER_03: Um, so they decided to change the algorithm.
- 50:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I I can't remember the exact wording, but it was some sort of really long formulaic thing they had to do a bunch of um research on and hire hire out to figure out how they could uh mathematically equate like your feeling of appreciation for engagement and likes.
- 50:54SPEAKER_03: Like, how much would Dustin appreciate these first 10 likes that we get on this post?
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: So it was like a whole scientific thing, which sounds kind of weird and out there.
- 51:04SPEAKER_03: Bottom line is for the little person, they're starting to show your content more, you're more likely to get likes and engagement um than just you know put something up and never get any kind of uh you know engagement at all.
- 51:15SPEAKER_03: And I've noticed that.
- 51:16SPEAKER_03: I've noticed that as I'm posting uh there, I'm getting a lot more engagement and I think a lot more views in the feed than I used to prior to the change.
- 51:25SPEAKER_03: So it should be interesting.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: It almost sounds like a a digital participation trophy on LinkedIn, to be honest with you.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's thank you for participating.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: Here's a like.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:38SPEAKER_03: But you know, we're all we all are behaviorally trained, you know.
- 51:41SPEAKER_03: God forbid we don't get a like on something, then we're just gonna throw our hands up and never go back.
- 51:45SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, LinkedIn is if you if you hear any of my any of the podcasts that I've done uh the beginning of this year or uh other podcasts I've been on, I rail against LinkedIn.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: I hated it, it's the worst thing in the world.
- 52:00SPEAKER_03: You hated LinkedIn.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: Absolutely despised it.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: And now it's definitely I'd say top three.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
- 52:08SPEAKER_03: It's growing on you.
- 52:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, same, same.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: There's so much organic reach.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: Some of the videos that I take those square videos that I do on our Instagram and I put them over on LinkedIn as well, and I change up the verbiage and stuff, you know, to make it more appropriate for LinkedIn.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: But just one the other day is going crazy.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: It's at like 6,100 views organically.
- 52:31SPEAKER_03: Like video for sure is where it's at on LinkedIn right now.
- 52:36SPEAKER_03: Um there I'd say long form content in the post and then a video, and and that's you know, going to definitely get some engagement over there.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's been working.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: So that that's awesome.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: Um, what what have we not talked about yet that you think agents and loan officers need to know or need to start doing for 2019?
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: I think there's a couple of things.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: You know, I always have my little my catchphrases.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: I've been working on my catchphrases for my for my upcoming uh presentations that I'm doing for 2019.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: Uh, and and for me, it just helps me remember things.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: People get a chuckle out of them, but I think there's a couple of key phrases.
- 53:17SPEAKER_03: One is less contenting, more commenting.
- 53:21SPEAKER_03: And not to say stop making content.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: Like, let's be clear, we all know content is what we need to be making in the right context for the right audience.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: But if you are slowing down and spending 10 minutes a day on each platform actually reaching out to people, you're going to get a lot more traction, especially in our industry.
- 53:40SPEAKER_03: That's where our clientele is, that's where our prospects are.
- 53:43SPEAKER_03: So we need to build our brand, stay in front of them, and actually show them that we care.
- 53:47SPEAKER_03: And in 2019, the way that you show someone you care, as silly as it sounds, is commenting on their social media.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: I know it sounds bizarre.
- 53:55SPEAKER_03: Not liking, actually commenting.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: So that's really important.
- 53:58SPEAKER_03: Number two is I like to say uh don't stalk unless you talk.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: Meaning, hey, if you're gonna go in there and watch stories, at least make sure you're commenting on the stories.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: Like don't be just like, you know, tapping through and watching.
- 54:12SPEAKER_03: A lot of people don't go and look at their stats, they don't see that you're watching.
- 54:16SPEAKER_03: So the only way that they know that you're actually engaging is when you send them a direct message.
- 54:20SPEAKER_03: The other side of the coin on that is that you're training the algorithm.
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: So if you want to show up more often in that Insta stories feed uh and you want that person to show up more often, that's how you do it is engage, talk, and watch.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: Um so that's really important.
- 54:34SPEAKER_03: And last but not least, I always say uh don't reach unless you teach.
- 54:38SPEAKER_00: Meaning, don't you're killing me.
- 54:40SPEAKER_00: You're killing me with these rhyming catchphrases.
- 54:43SPEAKER_03: You're gonna remember these things.
- 54:44SPEAKER_03: That's how my brain works.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: They're good, they're good.
- 54:47SPEAKER_03: Don't reach out to me in my DM and try to sell me something or make an appointment.
- 54:53SPEAKER_03: You need to give me value first.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: You need to teach me something, you need to, you know, give me some value, you need to make me smile, whatever it is.
- 55:00SPEAKER_03: I get so many people still to this day that send me obviously a templated, you know, DM through whatever platform it could be, and it's not gonna work, especially in 2019.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: It's literally an eye roll, it could be a block, it could be someone taking a screenshot and sending it to their friends and saying, look at this idiot, right?
- 55:20SPEAKER_03: So that's not what we want to do.
- 55:22SPEAKER_03: You have to actually give, give, and give before you're actually going to ask for something.
- 55:27SPEAKER_03: You're gonna reach out and ask them for a meeting.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: You're gonna reach out and say whatever it is that you want to say.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: So those are my three, my three uh phrases for for 2019.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: I'm laughing because I can picture you sitting there, like, okay, what do I want to say and how do I make it rhyme?
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: Brian, I need some help.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Lyson, I need some help.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: It just comes to me.
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: I don't like stand think about it.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: It just, you know, pops in my head.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: Uh maybe that's the key to success in on the speaking circuit is just to have rhyming catchphrases.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: I need to work on that.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 55:57SPEAKER_03: There, I mean, there's something about rhyming.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: I'm telling you, you can Google it.
- 56:00SPEAKER_03: I'm right.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: I don't doubt it.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: And I don't want to challenge you and make you feel bad when you're proven wrong.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just kidding.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: That does make a lot of sense, though.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: So, speaking of the speaking circuit, you and I get to speak at the same event in January, Agent 2021.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: How freaking cool is this?
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, so excited.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: I I am, I I mean, I can't even articulate how excited.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: Bucket list, like literally, I that's that's the pinnacle of what I could imagine.
- 56:28SPEAKER_03: Um, the fact that we all get to do it together and talk about our experiences of how we all connected through social, it's just the icing on the cake.
- 56:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's one thing to be invited to speak at Agent 2021.
- 56:40SPEAKER_03: It's such a premiere event.
- 56:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, with Gary Baynerchuk, hello.
- 56:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, yes, if you're in Iceland, I'm getting on a plane to go to Iceland to speak with him.
- 56:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, come on, he's crazy, amazing, idle for all of us.
- 56:51SPEAKER_03: But to be able to go with your crew, like the people that were with you the whole time, like that's just I beyond.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: I'm so excited.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: I cannot wait to go.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: It to me, it almost doesn't feel real yet.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: It's just I and I've told people this on the show before, but you and Frasier applied, and you guys actually were uh not approved, but like you were selected before I ever applied.
- 57:18SPEAKER_03: Right, I know.
- 57:20SPEAKER_00: It was an afterthought to me.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: I was like, well, you know, it doesn't hurt to throw my you know, throw my hat in the ring, and I did, and boom, like here we are.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: It's it's so cool.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: And and the lesson for for you guys is it never hurts to ask, just go for it.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: If you know, worst that could happen is Yeah, right, exactly.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 57:43SPEAKER_00: Um let's see.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: What is your panel called?
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: Because you're on a Jason Frazier and I are on a mortgage panel about content marketing.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: You're on the real estate track.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: Do you know the name of your panel yet?
- 57:54SPEAKER_03: Yes, I'm on the real estate track.
- 57:56SPEAKER_03: I believe it's building a personal brand in a digital world.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: Why would they choose you for that?
- 58:05SPEAKER_03: I just couldn't I couldn't figure it out.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: Yes, camera first branding at arm's length.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Yes, make sure you have some rhyming shit for that, or else uh they'll never have you back.
- 58:15SPEAKER_03: I've got my rhymes, I'll have them all situated and ready to go.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: Love it, love it.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: All right, so we've been we've been yapping for a while.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: I want to uh to wrap it up, or before we wrap it up, something we do with every guest is these rapid fire questions that gives a little glimpse into you and what's important to you or what isn't, and then at the end I'm gonna ask you some open-ended questions to give people some recommendations and some tips.
- 58:40SPEAKER_00: So Facebook or Instagram?
- 58:44SPEAKER_03: Instagram.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: Instagram or Snapchat.
- 58:48SPEAKER_03: Ooh, oh I knew you'd struggle with that.
- 58:51SPEAKER_03: Tough that I'm I'm struggling with that.
- 58:53SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't know, it's a tie.
- 58:55SPEAKER_03: It's a tie.
- 58:56SPEAKER_03: I can't I can't pick between them.
- 58:58SPEAKER_03: It's like picking between kids.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: Well, let's see.
- 59:02SPEAKER_03: Which which kid is your favorite?
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: Oh boy.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: So, anyways, back to Instagram or Snapchat.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: Which one do you spend more time on?
- 59:11SPEAKER_03: Um, I'd say right now I'm spending more time on Instagram, but I'm using both every single time.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: Ah.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: Do you like Instagram more?
- 59:19SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 59:20SPEAKER_03: I they give me different, they they they serve different purposes.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: Book or podcast?
- 59:27SPEAKER_03: Um I'd say book slightly over podcast.
- 59:31SPEAKER_00: iPhone or Android?
- 59:33SPEAKER_03: Oh, iPhone.
- 59:35SPEAKER_00: Alexa or Google Home?
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: Alexa.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: Burgers or pizza?
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: Ooh, pizza.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: New York or LA?
- 59:44SPEAKER_03: New York.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: Phoenix or Park City.
- 59:47SPEAKER_03: Oh Park City.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: Are we in a real estate bubble or not a bubble?
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: Podcast or vlog.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_03: Podcast.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: YouTube or IGTV.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_03: YouTube.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: YouTube or Facebook Live.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: YouTube.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: Book or audiobook.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: Book.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: Uber or Lyft.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: Uber.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: Give one app recommendation.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: It doesn't have to be marketing or real estate related, but an app recommendation of an app you love that you think people need to download.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_03: I think the one I use the most literally every single day.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_03: It's not anything fancy or exciting, but I use the Feedly app.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_03: It's F-E-E-D-L-Y.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_03: And I use that app because as a content creator, I'm always on the hunt for more content and inspiration and need to stay in the know.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: It's a way to basically collect or aggregate every blog that you're interested in all in one place.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: I open it up in the morning, spend five minutes, open it up at night, spend five minutes, and I literally can save all the articles.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_03: I've got my content inspiration for the entire week.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_03: So it's my go-to.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: And so it kind of just um uh curates news from different sources, and you say I want this source, this source, and this source.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: And you can uh create categories.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: So I have like a real estate category, social media category, and I can search blogs and save them.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_03: So I can go to all the categories or get everything all in just one feed, and I can just swipe through it kind of like a Facebook feed, and I can save them really easily.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: I can send them to myself if I need to, you know, send it to myself in an email, and then I can always refer back to anything.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: So if I'm ever like, oh, what am I gonna talk about today?
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_03: I can just go right to my app and I can look at everything I've ever saved in the last few weeks.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: I just use my notes, but but that's just to keep track of ideas I've already had.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_00: That's not I like yours for getting new ideas.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_00: Yes, awesome.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_00: And then what's the biggest, the single biggest mistake that agents and loan officers are doing right now?
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_03: Talking about uh loans or real estate.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, exactly.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: Stop it.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I had someone the other day that was quoting quoting you to me.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_03: What's your podcast number?
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_03: If you don't know what we're talking about, go listen to podcast what?
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: Um it's I don't know the number, but it's uh it's why you should stop posting about real estate.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's one of our top five most listened to.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_00: And yes.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: It's funny, in Instagram, in the comments the other day, Chelsea, I had someone quoting you to me.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: They're like, they're like, Chelsea says you should be posting about real estate 20% of the time.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, that's cool.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: I don't think you should do it at all.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_03: Well, I understand that, you know, as an agent, um, you know, you have a you have a duty in some fashion to market and you have to prove that to your clients.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_03: So I understand that you have to do marketing about particular homes.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_03: That's that's part of what you do.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_03: You're a marketer for your clients.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_03: And so there is a time and place for that.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_03: Um, it's just very little of the time.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_00: And the way you promote your listing doesn't have to be the same way everyone does it.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: You don't have to put your goddamn flyer on Instagram.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: Well, it's, you know, nobody's gonna read your flyer on Instagram because here it is, it's so small, it's on your phone, and it's just, you know, too long didn't read.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_03: Not one person's gonna read any of that.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: It and we just now perceive anything with more than a couple of words as an ad, truly.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_03: It's just we just don't even realize it and we just skim right past it.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's so many different ways you can be creative, still, still accomplish marketing an open house or a listing, but do it in a way that's actually gonna get attention and create some value for somebody.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: But no one wants to do that, apparently.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: People just wanna, you know, do the same old shit.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_00: So, all right, Chelsea, where can people find you?
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: If they're not already following you, then they must be under a rock, so between you and me.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: Uh weird.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_00: But if they're one of those people stuck under a rock, they don't know you, how can they find you?
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: How can they follow you?
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: Okay, so you can find me on all the socials with my first and last name.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: I'm going to spell my last name because it's unique.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_03: It's Pythes and it's P E I T Z.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_03: And you need to think of like old McDonald, E-I-E-I-O, it's P-E-I-T-Z.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_03: A lot of people try to put switch those letters around.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_03: But Chelsea.pytes on Instagram, and you can find me everywhere else under that name as well.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_00: And your podcast is the voice of social sales, available wherever fine podcasts are sold, I assume.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: That's correct.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_03: Yep, that's also the name of my flash briefing, which you will find on uh Amazon or Alexa.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: And then where are you tell us about a couple of your uh speaking gigs coming up?
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Agent 2021 on January 17th in Miami.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: But do you have anything between now and then?
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_03: I do have some um that are gonna be.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_03: I've got one in Washington that's called Engage 2019.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_03: Um got a few other ones coming up, but uh primarily yes, Agent 2020 is gonna be 2021 is going to be the big one.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_03: I'm super excited about.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_03: So um, hopefully, if there's some people that are listening that are going to be there, we would love to meet you.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna speak for you as well, Dustin.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_03: We'd love to meet you.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_03: So somehow reach out to Dustin and let's connect.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_00: That's the Super Bowl that I really feel like it's the Super Bowl and that we've made it to the Super Bowl.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_00: How freaking cool.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_00: And I've been to one of their events before.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_00: Have you been to a Vayner Media event?
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_03: I have been to an event with with Gary.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_03: I actually just went last week and I saw Gary speak, and I was I was ready to ask the question.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_03: I'd gotten up my courage, and I went to the microphone, and I they cut off the person literally right as I was walking up to the microphone.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I have been to an event where he's at.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it it wasn't like actually his, it was him and Tony Robbins.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_03: So I have not been to a Vayner event.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_03: I'm very excited to go.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_03: I hear they do events right.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_00: They definitely do them right.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: I've never seen anything quite like it.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, just the food, the the experience, like all the stuff that's included.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: It's expensive for one day.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: It's expensive.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: But man, they do a great event and they they bring the heat.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_00: So if you if you guys want to learn more about that, go to agent2021.com, the the numbers, agent2021.com, and find out about uh all the other speakers that are going to be there, uh the different events or the different uh topics.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: If you're a realtor, loan officer, uh let's see, insurance salesman or an auto dealer, they have tracks for you.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_00: This event is for you.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_00: So super cool.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_00: And Chelsea, thank you so much for your time today.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: I know you're busy.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: I know you've got lots of content to do, lots of hair to be messed up, and gray shirts to put on eventually.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_00: So I'll let you get back to it.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_03: Thanks so much for having me on.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_03: It was a blast as always.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_00: See you, Chelsea.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_00: I don't know about you guys, but after that interview, I'm I'm so excited for 2019 because it just it reinforces what I know to be true that focusing on voice marketing with Alexa, with podcasting, and then content, video, face-to-face, Instagram stories, all of that stuff.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: If you're doing that and you do it consistently and you keep trying to figure out how to get more people to see it, you're going to win.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_00: So so excited for what 2019 brings, a lot of which we don't even know, but I can't thank Chelsea enough for coming on the show.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_00: Chelsea, thank you.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: Great content, great stuff as always.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_00: Now, I've been asked over the last number of months, um, people people ask, hey, what can I do?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_00: You know, how can I bring value to you to your show?
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: And I I usually just say, hey, you know, thanks for listening.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, just listening brings us a lot of value.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but I've started I've started giving you a couple more things you can do.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_00: If if you'd like, if you've been getting value from this podcast and and you tune in every week and and you learn something new, there's something you can do to bring value to us as well.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: First thing is if you haven't yet, leave a review or a rating on iTunes or wherever you listen to the show, if it's on Stitcher or or Spotify or whatever, wherever, but definitely on iTunes, please leave us a review.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_00: And if you don't have time for an actual review, just leave us a rating.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_00: That helps us dramatically to be seen by more people and to grow our audience.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_00: And by growing our audience, we can get better guests in the future.
- 1:08:14SPEAKER_00: And, you know, and it just steamrolls.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_00: More value for you guys by helping us uh up front.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_00: So leave a review or a rating in iTunes, that's always very helpful.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_00: And then also, you could use some of the links that we provide.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we there's some affiliate links that we throw out there.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_00: If you're not uh if you're not familiar with affiliate marketing, it's just a way for someone to earn a small commission off of a purchase that was made without it costing the consumer any more money.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_00: So, like Amazon has uh an affiliate program set up.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: It's called Amazon Associates.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: We have an Amazon store.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_00: So a lot of the podcasting equipment that I recommend and books that I like and and products that I use and think are cool, I throw up, I throw up into my Amazon store.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_00: Well, that sounded weird.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: I put into my Amazon store, and and so then you can go there and see what I like and you know what equipment I recommend and what books I recommend you read and check out some cool um like this uh what's it called?
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: It's for for dudes for shaving your beard and stuff.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_00: It's like a cape that that uh suction cups onto the mirror and then it goes back behind your neck and it catches all the hair so it doesn't get all over the counter.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_00: Your wives will love this, or your girlfriends will absolutely love it.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_00: That, I have a link to that in the store, just cool stuff, stuff that I like and recommend is in our Amazon store.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: And whenever you go to our Amazon store and shop on Amazon through that link, that helps support our show.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: It helps us to keep the lights on and to pay some of the bills because it costs money out of my pocket to do the show.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_00: And you know, as we grow, it costs even more.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_00: So we don't have sponsors.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_00: Um, and so whenever you shop through our Amazon store, that really helps support the show as well.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: So to find our Amazon store link, just go to MassiveAgent Podcast.com slash resources.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_00: It's on MassiveAgentPodcast.com.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_00: You can click the resource link up at the top or just type it in directly, then click on the Amazon store.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_00: And just by going through that link, whenever you're shopping on Amazon, helps us a lot.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_00: So those are the things that you can do to add value to the show and that we'd really appreciate to help us give you a better show.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_00: Speaking of Amazon, our flash briefing, Massive Agent Minute, is available and is awesome.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_00: Please subscribe to that.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: Please enable that.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_00: We do 60 to 90 seconds every single day, seven days a week.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_00: It's like a mini podcast.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_00: It's an extension of the Massive Agent Podcast, and we do it to, you know, because sometimes you don't want to do a whole podcast episode just to tell you a quick story or uh rant about something or give you an idea or an update on something.
