- 0:05Hello and welcome back. To another episode.
- 0:09Today, one of the topics we're talking about is fashion,
- 0:13something that I don't personally know much about, but.
- 0:17Which no one will get if they're not watching on YouTube.
- 0:19Well, again, this is the first point I'm making a fool of
- 0:21myself. Currently I'm wearing the most
- 0:22obnoxious Timu running goggles that I've ever seen.
- 0:27But before we talk about that, there's something going on today
- 0:30that is quite mad. So the day of recording is
- 0:34unfortunately not the day of release.
- 0:37We are being quite organized this time and we are recording
- 0:40on the 26th of July. You got it.
- 0:42Which June? June even, wow, we are, we are
- 0:45organized like I said, we are ahead of that.
- 0:47So 26th of June Today, Faith Keep You Gone is taking on a
- 0:53world record. Attempt.
- 0:54I know, mad. Now, as far as you guys are
- 0:58concerned, listening to this or watching this, she has either
- 1:01done it or she hasn't at the point of time.
- 1:03Let's take the assumption that she has.
- 1:05So this is a project that's going on with Nike running.
- 1:09It's another one of theirs, a bit like the two hour marathon
- 1:12thing. They've put a lot of science
- 1:14into this as well, which I'm really intrigued with.
- 1:17However, Faith currently holds the world record for the fastest
- 1:21mile female mile, which is four O 7.
- 1:25Yeah, she's got to knock off 7 seconds.
- 1:27Yeah, which when you're talking about the top of the sport is
- 1:30massive. However, there is literally only
- 1:34a handful of women that have gone faster than 413.
- 1:36Yeah, so we aren't just talking about taking 7 seconds off.
- 1:41We're basically talking the same as the difference between her
- 1:45and the her and the next actual sort of people that are in her
- 1:47field. Now, as we said, this is similar
- 1:51to the Nike 2 hour marathon attempt where there were certain
- 1:55things they took into consideration which was making
- 1:58it as flat as possible as a running track for that to for
- 2:00that marathon, the footwear, the way that there was drafting
- 2:04going on, all of this that they've thought about.
- 2:06So she is running in a specially formulated suit and they're
- 2:11doing it at a running track in Paris.
- 2:13Paris. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:15Which is meant to be fast. Yeah, I don't know quite how a
- 2:19running track necessarily. Like the composite in the the
- 2:22material that they use for the track.
- 2:24But yeah, I don't know either. But yeah, it's safe to say that
- 2:27the four minute mile is something that has been broken
- 2:29now. I mean, it was first broken by
- 2:30Roger Bannister quite a while ago, but now it's definitely
- 2:33something that we see done relatively regularly.
- 2:35I think the the men's world record is 343.
- 2:38So there's a big disparity there.
- 2:40And I think this is the aim is to try and start to close it.
- 2:42But yeah, I mean, I'm glad I'm not her right now.
- 2:46Yeah, you'd be petrified, wouldn't you?
- 2:47Terrified I. Mean last episode.
- 2:49If you haven't watched or listened to last episode, go
- 2:51back and listen to it. We were talking about the
- 2:54enhanced games, and this is the closest thing, I guess, to the
- 2:56enhanced games without having an enhanced athlete.
- 3:00And we're basically seeing the same thing now.
- 3:02I don't know if she's got a $1 million bonus that she's going
- 3:05to get if she manages to do it, but it's another one of those
- 3:08events. But this one seems a little bit
- 3:10more interesting because of the margin that she's trying to
- 3:13close, but also the way that they're trying to do it with
- 3:16tech and other considerations other than necessary changing
- 3:20what the athlete does or. I think like even if there's not
- 3:22a monetary prize, I'm sure she's getting something from from Nike
- 3:25and the rest of her sponsors for it.
- 3:27But it's like the prestige of being the first woman to ever
- 3:30break 4 minutes is like for me. It's giving me goosebumps
- 3:34thinking about it. And she was obviously had like a
- 3:36phenomenal season last year with her.
- 3:39She broke the the 1500 and the 5K world record, I think within
- 3:43like weeks of each other. Yeah.
- 3:46So she's obviously had some incredible form up until now and
- 3:50she's been picked out to go look.
- 3:51Can you help us break the four minute mile?
- 3:54Which honestly, like, I hope we get these episodes recorded
- 3:57quickly because I want to go home and watch that.
- 3:59Yeah. It's like you want to be there
- 4:00to actually watch it live, Like it's going to be incredible.
- 4:02One of the things I'm genuinely most looking forward to, and I'm
- 4:05going to take the approach that she's done it.
- 4:06Yeah, OK. Is I want to see now.
- 4:11Yeah. Like, but not not necessarily
- 4:13just the floodgates, but like, she now goes back to normal
- 4:16competition without her suit. Does she now have the confidence
- 4:19that she can run up to 7 seconds quicker?
- 4:21So does she end up running like a four or five without any of
- 4:24the game and. How interesting to see.
- 4:25Yeah, you're right, but that the the reason why I mentioned the
- 4:28floodgates thing is because when Roger Bannister originally broke
- 4:32the four minute mile, however many years ago that was, I think
- 4:36it was weeks or maybe even days after that.
- 4:40An Aussie guy who was also trying to break it, he'd seen
- 4:43that it had been done and literally broke it.
- 4:46So it's just like that mental. Oh, it can be done.
- 4:48Maybe whatever. There was something
- 4:50psychological holding him back. But then this might hopefully
- 4:54propel some other female runners to go.
- 4:56Actually, I'm, I'm faster than maybe I think I am.
- 4:59And and I can also break that or also push closer to her time.
- 5:02Well, I think it's also cool as we're at this point in like
- 5:04history with that distance in that if she has done it by the
- 5:09time this episode comes out and she is inspiring people and
- 5:13taking that mental barrier away, are we admitting that there is
- 5:18probably someone out there that is alive right now that is
- 5:22probably going to be the first person to do it without any of
- 5:24the help that's mad? They could be listening to this
- 5:27right now, who knows? And instead of thinking about
- 5:30how they're going to do that, they're actually going to listen
- 5:32to us talk about fashion. This is something that has been.
- 5:37Suggested brushed over the the fact that this is your 60th
- 5:40episode. Oh, you know, we may.
- 5:42We're here for the, we're here for the 100th, you know, but no,
- 5:45it's a very, very good point. And I think one of the things
- 5:47that I do want to touch on with the fashion topic being
- 5:52suggested by people is you and I have both been inundated with
- 5:55messages in like a very positive way.
- 5:59So through the podcast page, through my personal page and
- 6:01through your page as well. The amount of interaction that
- 6:03we're getting now is unbelievable.
- 6:06And not to say that I haven't always looked forward to doing
- 6:08the podcast as well, but coming into this afternoon, I've been
- 6:11really excited to talk about some of the things we've got to
- 6:12talk about because you guys have given us some great points to
- 6:14discuss. But also I think they're they're
- 6:17going to be fun things to talk about.
- 6:18So without further ado. Let's go.
- 6:22What was your fashion journey like with sports stuff?
- 6:24Because fashion and sport have now really crossed over the last
- 6:27couple of years and that's been apparent and I think that's why
- 6:29this. Hasn't always been the case, has
- 6:31it? Absolutely not.
- 6:32I feel like we. Probably should dig out some
- 6:35photos at some point. And I think my fashion journey
- 6:38is going to be even more. I don't know how to explain it
- 6:41other than horrific, but CrossFit and fashion, a bit like
- 6:45high rocks and fashion now, but CrossFit and fashion in like
- 6:482016, 2017, not good. And I fell very, very foul of
- 6:53that not good line. I genuinely don't think of a
- 6:58time where I start thinking about my fitness fashion,
- 7:01especially when I was younger getting into it, because I so I
- 7:04started going to the gym and like doing fitness when I was, I
- 7:07think sick form or like late GCS ES and when I was going, I was
- 7:11just going in whatever rugby kit or whatever I had.
- 7:14So I wasn't even thinking about it.
- 7:15It was just like what sports kit do I have?
- 7:17And then because I was I think I had AI don't think by the time I
- 7:20was then I was still having a paper round.
- 7:22I think I was working a Saturday job, but like I wasn't earning
- 7:24much money to be like putting towards a lot of stuff.
- 7:27So if I had anything gym Shark, it was sale and it was what no
- 7:31one else wanted, but it would be skin tight, it would have some
- 7:34sort of luminescence on it and I didn't care because it had gym
- 7:37Shark on it. It's.
- 7:38Going to be really bright. And I think, I think I had two
- 7:41T-shirts that I cycled every two days.
- 7:44Oh no. It would go through the wash and
- 7:46those things took a beating by the washing machine.
- 7:48But I very much started with the I was classic like rugby kit.
- 7:52Sports kit from school kind of vibe.
- 7:54And then once I kind of realized, OK, I'm not really
- 7:57doing those sports at the moment, I started buying gym
- 8:00gear, but it would be only what was branded and what was
- 8:04considered cool. I wouldn't buy anything that was
- 8:05like. I didn't go through, I never
- 8:07went through the gym shark phase because when gym shark initially
- 8:11became popular, it was very much like this is for bodybuilders
- 8:15and I was doing functional fitness because I was a
- 8:17Crossfitter and no way could I wear that.
- 8:19So I never fell down the gym shark route And ever since I, I
- 8:22never have actually. But CrossFit fashion at the
- 8:25time, like I, I can't begin to explain to you if you, if you
- 8:29haven't seen it, I think it was the 2016 season when it was
- 8:33still sponsored by Reebok. Reebok did this CrossFit Games
- 8:37run of training quick kit and it was like they had two different
- 8:40colorways. It was either yellow, like
- 8:42bright fluorescent yellow where it was like X-ray bones.
- 8:47And I can't really explain that other than it was like someone's
- 8:51Halloween costume of a skeleton. And it was either you're wearing
- 8:54this yellow thing, I'm going to have to find these photos.
- 8:57And and you look at the CrossFit Games and they actually were
- 8:59given teal shoes. So they had teal Reebok Nanos.
- 9:04And then everything else was like yellow or this X-ray thing.
- 9:07And they were wearing like knee high socks and like headbands
- 9:10and wristbands and people like that's what I want to look like.
- 9:13That is cool. And that was kind of fashion as
- 9:15I was coming into the sport of CrossFit.
- 9:17So unfortunately I owned a lot of Reebok and unfortunately none
- 9:21of it was particularly. Cool.
- 9:22See, I never did functional fitness stuff, so I never had
- 9:25that pushing me to get into that sort of line of clothing.
- 9:28I guess all I had was what people were wearing at the local
- 9:31leisure centre gym because when I started going to the gym it
- 9:34was more so because I was an insecure teenager.
- 9:37And so I would go, and I wouldn't necessarily say that
- 9:40was bodybuilding because there wasn't much of A body to build,
- 9:43but I was trying to get to that point where I was having at
- 9:46least some sort of definition of an on an arm.
- 9:49And so I wanted something that was one wheel tightish on my
- 9:51arms, but not tight anywhere else.
- 9:53I remember that being a moment. And I also, damn, this is a
- 9:57little flashback. Rolling up sleeves on T-shirts
- 10:01was, I don't think I would do that in in the gym from memory,
- 10:04because my gym tops would take care of that.
- 10:06But if I wasn't there, yeah, I'm thinking that I was probably
- 10:09still requiring 3 or 4 rolls where it was like, so like
- 10:13that's where I was at and I. Definitely did tight T-shirts,
- 10:15but I don't know if I did the rolling.
- 10:17Maybe. I probably did.
- 10:18My protein started doing T-shirts and they were far more
- 10:21reasonable and they had the Raglan muscle fit and I was like
- 10:24that's cool. So I, I remember taking that to
- 10:27uni and wearing those and like then I got into American
- 10:31football and started training in those and they became like
- 10:34undershirts. And then I can't really remember
- 10:37what I was wearing. But all I know is, and this is a
- 10:40bit of an ick in American football, very, very common, you
- 10:44get some sort of training camp T-shirt or a team T-shirt every
- 10:47year. And what do you do?
- 10:48You stare at that thing and you cut the sleeves off.
- 10:50Nice. It has to be done.
- 10:52And so that ended up being 90% of the time while I was training
- 10:55and playing and everything. I think like my journey through
- 10:57uni, I didn't even consider fashion being a thing like in in
- 11:02personal life and also in gym and fitness.
- 11:04It just wasn't a thing for me. So it's like I'll wear whatever,
- 11:06it doesn't matter. And I, I literally don't care.
- 11:08It's only more recently now where I'm like a little bit more
- 11:11conscious of it, but I, again, I was like, I wouldn't consider
- 11:14myself particularly fashionable and I don't go out of my way to
- 11:17like make things work, but there's certain things that I
- 11:19look at and I go, that's acceptable, that is
- 11:22unacceptable. That's cool.
- 11:24I want to wear it. So that's kind of more my
- 11:26fashion thing. It's like if I like it, I'm just
- 11:28going to wear it. I don't particularly go out of
- 11:30my way to make sure it it works all together.
- 11:33But yeah, there were certain things like I'm trying to look
- 11:37back at now where I did the tight T-shirt thing.
- 11:40That was tough. I think I've tried to eradicate
- 11:43it all out of my mind. But as I left uni and got into
- 11:46CrossFit, there was like a, the CrossFit, the code.
- 11:49And so you had to wear Lululemon shorts and they.
- 11:52Yeah, yeah. And then and they had to be like
- 11:54pretty long, like towards the, like the knee, or it was, or it
- 11:58was Reebok. And then you'd wear Stan socks.
- 12:01The more brightly coloured the better.
- 12:03I've got a drawer full of them at home that I no longer wear.
- 12:06And then it was like Reebok now that it's on your feet.
- 12:09So it's just like pretty tough. Long shorts, that's the thing
- 12:11that I vibe with for sure. Because yeah, I I mean, I still
- 12:15don't, but I didn't have the legs to not have long shorts at
- 12:18any point in time. But I also remember I've always
- 12:20been a high sock wearer. Yeah, always been as in like
- 12:25they've always like mid, mid shin.
- 12:27So not, not, not not. Not no, no, no no.
- 12:30Not old fashioned golfer. Just to clarify, just like a.
- 12:34High meal always come out on the top of the trainer.
- 12:36I've never been a trainer sock wearer really.
- 12:39But that led me into thinking about my trainer choice.
- 12:42Because right now, you know, because you've seen the shoes
- 12:46that I've got and the kind of state they're in, which is still
- 12:48bad by me. But like, I have a lot of shoes
- 12:51and I typically always make the wrong decision when I'm looking
- 12:54at do I go for a dark colour or a light colour?
- 12:56I choose the light colour and then I regret that because they
- 12:58look awful. I don't know what I used to
- 13:01train in when I first started when I was younger because I
- 13:04didn't have running shoes, which is what a lot I really trained
- 13:06in. But I also, I remember getting
- 13:08my first pair of Air Force Ones in like my penultimate year at
- 13:12university, so I don't know what I was wearing.
- 13:14Wow, yeah, that's quite late. I think I say I didn't have
- 13:17running shoes. I think when the the first Nike
- 13:20Flyknits came out I bought bright luminescent green ones
- 13:23and I think I used to do everything.
- 13:25Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had a pair of those as well.
- 13:27I think like when I was at school, I did everything in
- 13:30ASICS, like you know how like the gel ASIC trainers now are
- 13:34super popular. Yeah, I used to have those.
- 13:36I did all of my running and all my gym stuff and that and it was
- 13:39either that or football boots and then I didn't really have a
- 13:42casual trainer. But then through uni it was
- 13:45maybe like S BS or like dunks or something like that.
- 13:48I used to, yeah. I used to wear Vans.
- 13:51Oh yeah, I have. And Van Roger, actually a bad
- 13:53lifting shoe. But I didn't wear them for a
- 13:55reason. I know them because I was
- 13:56pretty. Much Yeah, Vans.
- 13:57We we went through a phase with Vans, but now I'm like, I try my
- 14:00hardest to wear white shoes whenever possible.
- 14:03So it's like, I know it's not a good choice, but when I'm in the
- 14:05gym I want to wear an all white trainer.
- 14:08Yeah, I I am the same. But like I said, my trainers
- 14:10aren't all white for very long, Yeah.
- 14:13Especially when you're in the gym, they do get trashed quite
- 14:14quickly. Surprisingly so, considering I
- 14:17don't feel like I kick anything. No, just the floor is always
- 14:20dark and it's always dirty. See, one of the reasons that
- 14:23people were in and wanted us to discuss this wasn't actually
- 14:26necessary about our floors. I'm hoping that that reminded a
- 14:28few people of what they used to do as well, so we could preface
- 14:31ourselves. So you didn't even need to bring
- 14:32that up. We didn't.
- 14:33No, I. Just wanted to see if you could
- 14:34expose yourself. Great, not quite on the same
- 14:36level as me. We've had some things that
- 14:40people have said that are fashion related, right, that we
- 14:44should discuss. One was almost a, well, I'd say
- 14:481 was actually a grind. My gear suggestion but I think
- 14:51comes quite nicely under this which is wearing a Garmin or
- 14:55fitness watch at a dress up event.
- 14:58Grow up. Now however, I was also on the
- 15:02defensive with this straight away because I literally did.
- 15:05That last week. However.
- 15:08How are you going to track your steps?
- 15:09This was and then this was sent in by a woman.
- 15:13It was four women wearing dresses and having a a Garmin or
- 15:17a fitness tracker OK at the same time and I.
- 15:20Well, I can't comment on the dress.
- 15:22I can't comment on that, but I will say I understand that more
- 15:24than a suit with A at least it's.
- 15:26Hidden in a suit, if you're wearing a dress, it doesn't have
- 15:29arms. It's very obvious.
- 15:30That's what I'm thinking. But again, that's like my watch
- 15:34is part of my identity. And like it's, it's basically
- 15:37become part of my arm to the point where it's like, you can
- 15:41see how pale the skin is underneath that watch strap.
- 15:43But yeah, this never comes off. Never so.
- 15:46Never, unless it's charging. On that then I'll watch strap
- 15:51line tan lines becoming cool yeah they are yeah that's super
- 15:55cool because I haven't taken this one off the.
- 15:56Position you'll watch tan line the cooler you are.
- 15:58Because this, this for sure, this is like when skiers and
- 16:01snow waters have got the Google line at the end of the season
- 16:04because they've been spending so long in the park sick.
- 16:06Yeah. And like, that's cool.
- 16:07That's psychos with the with their they've got their strap
- 16:10from the helmet. Like always hand Don't know,
- 16:12that's cool. That's just like dedication, how
- 16:15long you've been wearing that helmet that you've been.
- 16:16It doesn't look ridiculous. The sick with the sunglasses
- 16:20line as well. I think that's sick.
- 16:21Again, go for tan. As well.
- 16:23Smart enough to watch this on YouTube instead of listening.
- 16:26Yeah, that's good. I think I've got.
- 16:27I don't know if this will actually show up on the camera,
- 16:29but there's quite a visible line there.
- 16:31It's not as good as mine, Joe. Charles is nowhere near as
- 16:37tanned as I am, so I'm expecting to be.
- 16:40It's actually not bad. It's definitely a pale little
- 16:43elbow, elbow, knuckle, wrist, knuckle.
- 16:44I don't know all eyes, but so that's that's one well.
- 16:47I've seen, I saw someone recently actually they'd, they'd
- 16:51dressed up for an event and they're taking their whoop off
- 16:54and they were really tanned and their whoop line was like wild,
- 16:58like super pale. And I'm like, at that point you
- 17:01might have as well just have worn the whoop.
- 17:03Like you can literally see the line.
- 17:04There's like no jewelry around. It's just like that's true.
- 17:07You've just worn your whoop. Our whoops as cool as finished
- 17:10watches though. I like the tan line.
- 17:13I like. The tan line, I think it's cool.
- 17:14I like the tan line, but if you're going to wear, if you're
- 17:16going to actually choose to wear it to an event, it's a whoop as
- 17:19cool as an actual watch. Because I I would then say if
- 17:22you're going to wear something on your wrist to an upmarket
- 17:26event and it's going to be a watch, it needs to be a watch.
- 17:28Yeah, not. I don't mind.
- 17:31I think it's just like the people I hang around with.
- 17:34I think I just hate whoop. Yeah, I think you hate.
- 17:36OK, this is this is taking me way down on a tangent, but this
- 17:39might be a bit contentious. What if you were?
- 17:42Because there's someone and he, if he's listening, he knows
- 17:45exactly who he is. What?
- 17:46And you probably know who he is as well.
- 17:48What if you wear your sports watch and your formal watch at
- 17:52the same time? Different wrists?
- 17:54That is just beyond psychopathic.
- 17:57If it's a sports watch, as in, it also tells the time.
- 18:01That's like Garmin and like. That's wild if it was.
- 18:04If it was like tag and woop, more acceptable.
- 18:08Yeah, for sure. That's OK because Woop doesn't
- 18:10have a watch face. But what I'm going to point out
- 18:12is we're basically wondering if this person wearing two time or
- 18:16having two ways of telling time at any time is ridiculous.
- 18:18I would say it's actually three ways of telling time because who
- 18:21does not have their phone on them as well?
- 18:22So like, yeah. Pick.
- 18:24One pick one. Who are you going to be today
- 18:26and be that person? Yeah, for sure.
- 18:28The next one that we've got is the barefoot shoes.
- 18:33This, I think, would come under gimmicks.
- 18:37Jim Hicks and also it's just generally awful choices if.
- 18:42I don't care how good they are for your feet, just don't wear
- 18:45them. But are they?
- 18:47I think there's lots of science around it, like a wider toe box
- 18:50is better if you're spreading your toes.
- 18:52I don't think I think they're the worst.
- 18:54I'm thinking about it now, I can't stop moving my toes about
- 18:57how that would feel with the toes moving.
- 18:59And you know, it's like, it's one of those things where at
- 19:03what point in your life does it become acceptable to take like
- 19:06couple selfies or, or just like, do you know what I mean?
- 19:09Like at some point in your life that happens and then you just
- 19:12start posting it on Instagram. Why, what, how does that happen?
- 19:15So it's the same thing. Do you just get to a point in
- 19:18your life where you're like, I need barefoot shoes?
- 19:21I that's. You know what I mean?
- 19:23Strange remark. I'm really scared now that I'm
- 19:25supposed to be getting close to that point, but that seems so
- 19:28unreasonable to me to be. Oh, so you've got, you've got,
- 19:30you've got like an age cut off. I think there has to be.
- 19:33Yeah, I don't want to say it in case I offend some people.
- 19:36I think it's, I think it's definitely forties, 40s, yeah,
- 19:40yeah. You're not getting close to
- 19:41that. No, but like, I mean, I'm a lot
- 19:44closer to that than I am. Yeah, well, I'm nearly closer to
- 19:46that than 20. Yeah, in a year, a bit of time.
- 19:48So that's scary. Yeah, just no one wear those.
- 19:53The next one, Iron Man tattoo. What's your thoughts on the Iron
- 19:58Man tattoo? I don't mind it I.
- 20:01Think personally go for. It I think as tattoos go, that's
- 20:05quite cool. Because I I can't, I mean there
- 20:07are some that don't look great or like so that's done bad.
- 20:10Yeah, that's the and it's like position of it, how it's done is
- 20:14really important. But I think it's, I think
- 20:18there's levels like obviously I, I, it's a huge achievement to do
- 20:22an Iron Man and I'll never take that away from anyone.
- 20:24But there's levels to it. Like if you're a world champion
- 20:27at Iron Man, I mean, if you've got a really fast Iron Man time,
- 20:30that's definitely more acceptable than I've just like
- 20:33walked around the course and got an Iron Man tattoo.
- 20:36I think I would if I, and maybe when I do an Iron Man, probably
- 20:40not. But if I did, I would get the
- 20:42tattoo because I'm not going to make that my career.
- 20:46And I want to mark that as an achievement because it is wild
- 20:49as an event today. And I think based on what I've
- 20:52seen everyone else do and what seems to make sad on the calf,
- 20:55on the calf. And I saw someone the other day
- 20:57that like the colours had faded. If it didn't look great, it
- 20:59should top that up because. Oh, they've gone like red it.
- 21:02Was red and blue. Really.
- 21:04Yeah. But the Iron Man, that's a brand
- 21:07in itself. You've essentially just got your
- 21:09like a brand tattooed on you. Yeah.
- 21:11And that's that for me is less cool.
- 21:13I still rate it though because it's like it's.
- 21:15Like what other brands would you tattoo on yourself?
- 21:17What would you love so much that you're going?
- 21:19To So I was going to say the Olympic tattoo.
- 21:22Yeah, I think, I think fair enough.
- 21:24Again, can't argue with. It if I go to the Olympics, I'm
- 21:26getting that huge, getting that huge tattoo.
- 21:29Across my whole. Back.
- 21:30Yeah, Huge. And like, I'm just spectating
- 21:32but I'm still getting it. I'll probably get multiple one
- 21:35on my back, on my arm so everyone can sit at all time
- 21:38everywhere. But you know, if I did the Iron
- 21:40Man, I'd probably get the tattoo as well, so I think that's cool.
- 21:42Yeah, I don't know if I'd get it.
- 21:44Like really big. Also, controversial point, do
- 21:48you get one for the 70.3? No Agreed.
- 21:52Thank you very much. I've seen a few sell for the
- 21:54tattoo. I've seen the Iron Man logo with
- 21:5670.3 as well. No, I don't think that's OK.
- 21:58Yeah, no. Someone else suggested wearables
- 22:03not specific to watch or a certain situation, but what
- 22:07other wearables would you like to see?
- 22:10As in, what metrics and what information would you like to be
- 22:13getting from fitness wearables? There's nothing that springs to
- 22:18mind. I see.
- 22:19Here we go. I thought that and then.
- 22:22You can't put me on the spot. Like that they Uno reversed it
- 22:24and I'm going to Uno reverse it for you to think about.
- 22:26Yeah, we do. Hydrox.
- 22:28Yeah, Hydrox. There are quite a few metrics
- 22:32that we can't measure at the moment.
- 22:34So you think about the skier, the row running, you can tell
- 22:37all your pacings. Yeah.
- 22:39Do you know your burpee ball jump pacing?
- 22:42But then I'm like, actually rewind that again.
- 22:45Imagine there's an integration with the PM 5.
- 22:49I don't know why that would be useful.
- 22:50The PM 5 For those that don't know, it's an incredibly neat
- 22:53thing. That is what the monitor is
- 22:55called on a rowing machine or a ski.
- 22:56Performance Monitor 5, if you didn't know yet, and there's
- 22:59been many iterations over the years.
- 23:01Yeah, what about an integration where you can, you can sync your
- 23:05Garmin or your whatever we've got to?
- 23:09The PM 5I mean that's. All the data.
- 23:11Surely that's around the corner for the PM 6, but yeah, what we
- 23:16broad jump pace? What about your knowing your
- 23:20average burpee broad jump distance?
- 23:22What about knowing your warble cadence?
- 23:24What about knowing your force that you can put out when you do
- 23:27your lunges, your lunge distance?
- 23:29All of these things that we haven't thought about for such a
- 23:34data-driven. Sport.
- 23:35Yeah, it's interesting. I was thinking.
- 23:37It's just that how, how do you measure force?
- 23:40Because you'd need like some sort of, I don't know, sensor in
- 23:45the floor. Or you input.
- 23:48So this is now getting really engineering here, so I don't
- 23:51want to go too much, but obviously force is a calculation
- 23:53so you could have your body weight and you can have a time.
- 23:56OK, in a moment. And you could work out rough
- 23:58forces with that. It wouldn't be necessarily
- 24:01completely accurate, but for you to be able to build off an
- 24:03understanding what your body's doing.
- 24:05No, all of those are very valid. I think that'll be quite cool.
- 24:08Yeah, very niche to. To high rocks, very niche, but
- 24:10this person is someone that's quite smart and is is like, I
- 24:14reckon they've got their way of doing it already.
- 24:16OK, fine. But yeah, where it was.
- 24:18You send that in. Yeah, just from my.
- 24:20Account I just wanted to. This account, yeah.
- 24:22Yeah. But what they did say is where
- 24:24would you not wear anything like that?
- 24:26Or like, where would you not? Because you know how some people
- 24:28wear their heart monitor on their arm?
- 24:30We wears ours. Wear ours on our chest strap.
- 24:32We've obviously got watches. You got the Woot bands.
- 24:36Would you ever wear anything on your lower body?
- 24:39I think that's if it was like some weird gadget that measured
- 24:43something like force production, for example, and it was similar
- 24:47to a Woot but you wore it around your ankle.
- 24:49I feel like that's even more acceptable because it's so much
- 24:52easier to hide True because I'm like going now.
- 24:55On your chips as well when you're running.
- 24:57Marathons or on on the laces of your shoe, like the cadence
- 25:01sensors for running and things like that.
- 25:02Or is there a compartment in the actual shoe that you can just
- 25:06slot this sensor into? Like all of that is way more
- 25:09excess. Like way more.
- 25:10Where you can hide it, hide it. So it's not.
- 25:12Yeah, because I still don't think it's fashionable to wear
- 25:16tech necessarily, apart from watches.
- 25:19Where they head mounted GoPro? Which has built in cooling on
- 25:23the front as well. I used to have one of those, the
- 25:25hat. Talking of fashion, the hats
- 25:27that had the solar power panel and a cooling hat when I was a
- 25:31kid. Yeah, that was cool.
- 25:35Talking about hats, I've taken the leap today and I'm not
- 25:37wearing one. I was going to say, actually
- 25:39this is unusual. I was really hoping, bearing in
- 25:42mind the topic that we're doing today, you're going to turn up
- 25:44in the Carhartt hat. You're for the last two episodes
- 25:46and I was going to say 3 episodes in a row, but you've
- 25:48not. Yeah, I know.
- 25:50This is like a. You've actually got a fresh.
- 25:51Heck and consideration of maybe like Charles 2.0 maybe getting
- 25:56rid of the hat. Charles 2.0.
- 25:57Wow. We'll see how long that lasts
- 26:00for. Well, rather than rambling on,
- 26:02we've got so much to talk about we do.
- 26:03So the next thing we're going to talk about is what's going on
- 26:07right now. OK, As of the people listening,
- 26:11right, Wimbledon. OK, Yeah, because it has
- 26:14started. It has started.
- 26:15And boy, what a start it has been, am I right?
- 26:18The weather has been impeccable. That's carried on for the last
- 26:21couple of weeks. We don't know if the courts will
- 26:22hold up. This is.
- 26:23This is the best, the best time of year for sport in my opinion.
- 26:26Like yeah, Tour de France, you've got, which starts in a
- 26:29week or so. You've got Wimbledon, you'll
- 26:31then have the golf the Open in July as well.
- 26:34So like ears all go. And what what could be more
- 26:37British about an event that you would pay to go and sit on a
- 26:41hill and watch ATV? It's crazy, but I couldn't think
- 26:44of anything better. But we had a couple messages in
- 26:50asking us to do our predictions for the tournament.
- 26:53Because we are tennis experts. Because we're tennis experts and
- 26:55we had seen the first few days and we really think we have an
- 26:58understanding of what's going to go on.
- 27:00So I've only gone as far as the solos.
- 27:03I've not considered the double s.
- 27:05No, because I think that's way too hard to predict and I wasn't
- 27:08going to sit down and spend all that long just to be inevitably
- 27:10wrong. So who do you think is in a
- 27:14women? Are we going to start with?
- 27:16Up to you. Let's start with men.
- 27:19So misogynistic, that's the word.
- 27:23I'm just going to skip past that.
- 27:26I don't think you can look past world #1 Carlos Alcaras.
- 27:32Is that how you pronounce his name?
- 27:34Yeah, I liked the role of the R Yeah, that was really nice.
- 27:38I think you can really. Yeah.
- 27:40Yannick Sinner. So he was he's on my list as
- 27:43well. So he was like my my second
- 27:45pick. Like I think that would be a
- 27:47good rivalry. And also Novak Djokovic.
- 27:51Yeah, I wouldn't overlook him either.
- 27:52I think Novak's obviously got the their history, the
- 27:56experience. He's won Wimbledon enough times
- 27:58you could put him in a final. He's probably not going to be
- 28:00sweating as much as say, the others outcomes have seen one as
- 28:03well. Yannick Sinner though I'm really
- 28:07hoping for a bit of an underdog or a comeback story, because
- 28:10after the French Open, when he sadly lost, he is probably
- 28:16better suited to grasp. You could argue that.
- 28:19And so I am hoping that yeah, he hits it with a physical
- 28:24advantage and comes with a bit of a chip on his shoulder as a
- 28:27mental. Edge, I think that's like,
- 28:28that's a really good pairing and I'd be interested to know what
- 28:31the draw looks like where they meet each other.
- 28:34Well, I think they would meet each other in the final, would
- 28:36they? They're one and two.
- 28:37Oh, perfect. Oh, great.
- 28:38Yeah, yeah. So I mean, on paper, that's the
- 28:41final that probably everyone wants to see.
- 28:43I I big Nova Novak Djokovic fan, so I wouldn't mind seeing him in
- 28:47the final either just because of like the prestige and like
- 28:51what's he one of the most majors?
- 28:54Yeah, at this point he has, yeah.
- 28:55So seeing him go against one of those two either to be honest
- 28:59with you would be a really good final.
- 29:01Cool. Are you going to go as far as to
- 29:02say games? Well, sets and games, No.
- 29:06Cool. Great, because I didn't want to
- 29:07have to do that either. OK, let's move on to the women
- 29:10then. Yeah, Have you got Sabalenka?
- 29:14Such a basic bit you by the way, not Savalenka, just to clarify
- 29:18that. Oh, you know a person.
- 29:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. Reminds me of Emma Rata Carney.
- 29:23This is something that we glazed over last week when I
- 29:25embarrassed myself, or last episode when I embarrassed
- 29:27myself by not being able to remember Emma Rata Carney.
- 29:30I did reveal to Charles after it was.
- 29:32Even worse. Yeah, it's so much worse.
- 29:34My grandparents used to dog sit her dog or have her family dog
- 29:38so I really should have remembered.
- 29:39Such a good connection. That made it worse because I
- 29:41knew that and I was like, how? So for sure she was listening
- 29:43as. Well, yeah, she actually was.
- 29:46She's given me the silent treatment.
- 29:47Sentences are I've gone for Elena Rubicana.
- 29:53Really. Yeah, because, because.
- 29:56Of your deep dive on Google. Yeah, big time.
- 29:59But also she has done particularly well in Wimbledon
- 30:03in the last couple of years. She's gone semi final, quarter
- 30:05final again, grass is arguably one of her stronger points.
- 30:10And because through the last few seasons, she's again doing the
- 30:15natural thing where she, as you are an athlete building your
- 30:17career, you get more experience, you'll gain more of that
- 30:20exposure into these Grand Slams. And I do think I definitely
- 30:23think she's a bit of a wild card, but I think if she's going
- 30:26to win a Grand Slam this season, it would be Wimbledon.
- 30:33I like the fact that you just didn't agree with me and go for
- 30:36Sabalinka. It's.
- 30:37Just it's I wouldn't be this This makes my guess sound
- 30:42stupid, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sabalinka won,
- 30:44yeah. But so many factors, so many
- 30:47variables but like. Wimbledon is also historically
- 30:50great for just the underdog ruining and yeah, yeah, Your
- 30:53prediction. Yeah.
- 30:54We've seen it enough times with like, Rafael Nadal, Yeah, when
- 30:57he was both, like, in the top three seeds and then when he
- 31:01wasn't and started being the people that were.
- 31:02And, yeah. So there we go.
- 31:06That's that. Should we move on to grind my
- 31:09gears? I reckon, OK, so I've got like I
- 31:13put out on my story, which sounds funny to say if you say
- 31:17it fast, but I put out of the gym X yeah, it's very different
- 31:22to gimmicks. It's Gym X or let's just call it
- 31:26fitness X, which essentially I think some of them are actually
- 31:29grind my gears, but there's a few.
- 31:32I think that a quick fire the best thing and I think this is
- 31:35just a reflection of my followers on Instagram.
- 31:38I reckon you could say that 99% of these gym X were written in
- 31:44by me. OK.
- 31:45However, however, I didn't contribute 1.
- 31:49All right, so these are all. From from my followers, things
- 31:53that give people the ick when they're in the gym.
- 31:56So I'm just going to go through these quick fire.
- 31:59We don't need to discuss them necessarily.
- 32:03This one was good. You know the so they've said
- 32:05that squat bar, neck pillow, save it for the aeroplane.
- 32:09You know, when people take, I think it's like the hip pad for
- 32:12hip thrusts and they put it on the barbell to do back squats to
- 32:15protect their shoulders and their tramps.
- 32:17So apparently that's a bigot. You never done that.
- 32:21I'll definitely agree with that if I was dating someone and I
- 32:23saw them do that. This.
- 32:24Game, I agree with it. It's it's not a neck pad.
- 32:28It is it's for the hips. But I have done that when I was
- 32:31when I first started going to the gym, I was going on my own.
- 32:34It was. On the bar, well, that's why
- 32:35we're doing this. We're doing this podcast to help
- 32:37people like you and and. Also at the fault of the makers,
- 32:41why do they put like a neck shaped hole on it?
- 32:43Like, you know, like the dip. Well, maybe there is one for the
- 32:46neck. Maybe, but like it's not for
- 32:49those that maybe have used it or consider using it or don't think
- 32:52that it's a big problem. What it's doing is it's putting
- 32:54the weight off center off your body, which is actually quite
- 32:57dangerous. Well, I'm not even thinking.
- 32:59I'm not even considering that. I'm just like you don't need to
- 33:01use it you. Don't and it's actually going to
- 33:02come put your. Shoulders in the OR your hands
- 33:04in the right position. You've got an inbuilt neck pad
- 33:07already in the traps. Shame.
- 33:10Don't give it time of day, Angus.
- 33:12OK, so this one's quite tough and I like this one because it's
- 33:14fashion related. Gym shark scrunched leggings.
- 33:22No comment. Good look I think.
- 33:27But a comment. Yeah, I will comment.
- 33:30I think they are fashionable. I think for the people that buy
- 33:34them, they do, They have the desire.
- 33:36Effect. I don't like them.
- 33:38But I think as a product it was a bad idea.
- 33:44I think it was counterproductive.
- 33:47That's what some people were trying to say about gym
- 33:50clothing. OK, yeah, that's why I'm.
- 33:52I'll leave it at that because I feel like the more I talk, the
- 33:55more of a hole I dig. Yeah, stop people who wear
- 33:58gloves in the gym sick emoji. Can I add on to that please?
- 34:02People that also wear a belt the entire time they're in the gym.
- 34:06Do you know what I saw? Someone walking down the street
- 34:09wearing their lifters. I'm just like you.
- 34:12No anyway. I've definitely cycled in
- 34:14lifters just to and from the gym so I don't have to pack another
- 34:17pair of cheese. So hot.
- 34:18Yeah, I'm going to keep going. Yeah.
- 34:21So actually this one footwear choices just oh me out bro.
- 34:25What? Just like they.
- 34:27I've seen someone barefoot in the gym before as well.
- 34:29That's pretty well not in not in the barefoot shoes.
- 34:32Oh, just like actually RAW dying, yeah.
- 34:34You get the dogs. Out in in the freeway area.
- 34:36And what made me feel quite violently I'll was the fact
- 34:38that, you know when you're in between sets and you're like,
- 34:40scrolling on your phone and sometimes a foot finds herself
- 34:43on top of a dumbbell. Oh, start.
- 34:45Barefoot. So that that leaves on leans
- 34:47onto this one, not cleaning equipment afterwards, which I
- 34:50don't think is an IC. I just think that's a grind my
- 34:52gear. I got sent a photo this week for
- 34:55grind my gears and I will say I wasn't aware you could do that.
- 34:59Please do that carefully. You will be blocked if you take
- 35:03too much. Advantage the mindsets followers
- 35:05are going hard on SO this week. I got a photo of a rowing
- 35:10machine that was being used as a coffee cup ledge.
- 35:16So the whole thing was just full of coffee cups and like, you
- 35:19wouldn't be able to use their own machine because it was empty
- 35:20coffee cups and coffee cups with it on.
- 35:22Yeah, that's not, that's not a proper use of gym.
- 35:25Equipment. That's tough, isn't it?
- 35:27Hang on, I'm keeping going. Keep going.
- 35:28We'll go quick fire now. We'll just get through these,
- 35:31someone wrote in overhead squats or an ick.
- 35:34Valid. Yeah, I think if you do them
- 35:36well, they're really cool, but if you don't, they're horrible.
- 35:39Barbell loading etiquette when you put the plates in the wrong
- 35:43order or like little plates or like.
- 35:44If if the plates don't match. Do you know what I saw?
- 35:47Yeah, the 10 KG plate, one side, 2 fives on the other or.
- 35:51Or even or even. Different types of plates,
- 35:53different size, Yeah. Like if you're using Olympic
- 35:55bumper plates and then you go ahead and different weights,
- 35:57yeah. They, they are, they must be,
- 35:59yeah they have to be selfies whilst running slash filming
- 36:02yourself training contentious. That is an ick, which is funny
- 36:07because it's also some people's job.
- 36:09Yeah, this, This is why I was like the everyone who's
- 36:14listening to this, who knows me will be like, you definitely
- 36:16fabricated these. But people who've call Slash
- 36:19think Turf Games as a CrossFit competition, which is very
- 36:23niche, but Crossfitters don't like it being called a CrossFit
- 36:26comp. It's functional fitness.
- 36:28It's not a CrossFit comp. But like, he's CrossFit, not
- 36:32functional fitness as well. I don't want to get into it.
- 36:36I was trying. I was dangling the Bay wearing
- 36:39white socks with black trainers. These are old fashioned.
- 36:43Actually these are good. Really.
- 36:44I've done it. I mean, I wear black socks with
- 36:46white trainers because I've got no socks left.
- 36:49What am I supposed to do? I'm not going sockless in my
- 36:52shoes. They'll stink.
- 36:54All right now, if you knew who said this would be a bit more
- 36:58fun and a bit more interesting, But they've said when girls wear
- 37:01socks over their leggings, you know if they're wearing like
- 37:06like mid shin like socks this I get it in the winter.
- 37:09This is a. Fashion thing as well.
- 37:11I have seen boys and I do you know what out myself in case
- 37:15someone's seen it and tries to out me.
- 37:16I've done it twice wearing socks over the bottom of tracksuit
- 37:21bottoms. I will argue the reason I did it
- 37:26was because again, we've spoken about the length of socks that I
- 37:28wear. I like to wear them just above
- 37:30the ankle, but certain tracksuit bottoms aren't long enough to
- 37:34get to my ankle, so I wouldn't know about that.
- 37:37I don't want to be seen as the guy wearing three quarter length
- 37:40trousers in the gym, so I'd rather be the guy that wears
- 37:42socks over the bottom. Maybe fair enough, but now I'm
- 37:44just a permanent shorts wearer. You've got to do what you've got
- 37:46to do. Let's finish.
- 37:48Let's all those. Yeah.
- 37:49You want to stop on those? My gym X but you go grind my
- 37:53gears. OK, grind my gears this week.
- 37:54So these are these are ones that people have sent in.
- 37:56The ones people have sent. So we don't have to incriminate
- 37:58ourselves anymore. We don't.
- 37:59That's perfect. For those of you that were
- 38:01unaware, it was the High Rocks World Championships.
- 38:06The weekend pretty much just gone actually at the time of
- 38:09recording. Hugely successful event for some
- 38:12people, slightly less successful for other people and the general
- 38:15organization at times. However, X.
- 38:21There's a whole high rocks world champs.
- 38:23Well, there's not I I was told by someone that was at the High
- 38:26Rocks World Champs. They went to the beach two days
- 38:28later and Tim Weinish, who is the world champ, was still
- 38:33wearing his medal two days later on the beach.
- 38:36I. Know who sent that in?
- 38:37Yeah, I think that is quite. That is disgusting.
- 38:41No, I mean. Legend I understand.
- 38:44You're a world champ but like you are the world champ without
- 38:46the medal and two days later is quite a long time.
- 38:49He's definitely. Getting a high rocks tattoo for
- 38:51sure. Oh.
- 38:52Yeah. Which maybe, Yeah.
- 38:54Anyway, that is actually so good.
- 38:58I hope they have a photo. Full kit wankers running less
- 39:02than 5 kilometers to work. They love putting all the
- 39:06running gear on to run less the. Last time I said this on the
- 39:08podcast, I got in trouble. You specifically targeted
- 39:12running vests. At a Highrox event.
- 39:15Oh, at a Highrox event? Yeah, we agreed that was fair
- 39:17enough. So I'm I'm, I'm back on the
- 39:18fence. You were whatever you want.
- 39:20Again, Highrox related. And this ties us and brings us
- 39:25nicely into the next section. There are some new rules.
- 39:28Oh yeah, one of the new rules, which is a grime idea for
- 39:32somebody is an an also a Jimmy Ick.
- 39:36In fact, possibly the most icky thing is that if you want to
- 39:40take your trainers off to do your wobbles, you must carry
- 39:43them across the line. Being seen carrying my trainers
- 39:47across the line is possibly the worst thing I can imagine.
- 39:50I didn't know this was a thing people did.
- 39:52I didn't either. I I was aware that Dylan Scott,
- 39:55the men's Elite 15 winner, when it was when the last race
- 39:59happened, that was the Elite 15 major in US, can't remember
- 40:02where it was. He did it and well, he.
- 40:07Took his shoes off to do wool walls and won the race.
- 40:10Controversial and then left his shoes there and he was told
- 40:13before the race started. Carry your shoes across the
- 40:16line. No integrity in the sport, but
- 40:20they've changed that now. Yeah, well, at least they're now
- 40:23there's an official rule, and if you do it, you can't get away
- 40:26with it. But why are you taking your
- 40:28shoes off, man? I would, I would like to think
- 40:31genuinely the time that you're saving by taking your shoes off,
- 40:35you've wasted by taking your shoes off.
- 40:37But it's it must, it must be more than that.
- 40:38It must be a I'm uncomfortable doing wobbles in my carbons
- 40:42because it's rocking me forwards onto my toes.
- 40:44I think it's the opposite when I so when I wear a certain race
- 40:48shoes and I'm racing a few different pairs now, they are
- 40:50quite soft at the back and as I drop into a squat personally I
- 40:54fall back. Oh, really?
- 40:57Just because of the way that, for me anyway, the carbons they
- 41:00create, it's like rocky forwards and propel you forwards.
- 41:03I just get that straight into my face.
- 41:05Because when I squat, for example, I squat with a my heel
- 41:09elevated, so I'd rather my heel elevated a little bit.
- 41:11Another rule that has or adjustment that has been made by
- 41:15high rocks is that there aren't any distance penalties anymore.
- 41:18So we've gone time based, which I think makes a lot more sense.
- 41:21Oh for sure. I have witnessed first hand this
- 41:24season that the sled pool penalty was a joke.
- 41:28If you got you got one warning, then you got a penalty and the
- 41:33penalty was 10 meters of sled pool.
- 41:35Now the way that that was enforced was you had to finish
- 41:38your sled pool. You then run back to the other
- 41:41end, which is 12 1/2 meters of a jog or run, depending on how
- 41:44tied you are. You then put it 5 meters the
- 41:47other way. Then you run all the way back to
- 41:49the other side and then you put it 5 meters and then you can
- 41:52leave again. And I just, I think considering
- 41:55that especially now, you would get a penalty for stepping on
- 41:59the line front and back. And you if you do that twice,
- 42:02that's just a case of losing your balance or not genuinely
- 42:05not being aware of being given the first warning, which was
- 42:07what happened in the case that I witnessed it destroy a race in.
- 42:11That's a nightmare. And then in watching that they
- 42:15tried to give them another penalty on the penalty, which
- 42:18would have been to do it again. So it will go into time base.
- 42:22I think it's a lot easier mentally as well to be told
- 42:24you've got penalty and just move on.
- 42:25Across all of them, yeah, yeah. Now consistency across all of
- 42:29them, Yes and no and no, because running laps counts if you, you
- 42:37basically get a different time penalty dependent on the number
- 42:39of laps that are required to be run between each station on the
- 42:44assumption that you have missed one lap.
- 42:45So worst case scenario and some of these faster courses where or
- 42:49seemingly faster courses where there is one lap of running for
- 42:51the whole kilometer, if you missed that lap, which is
- 42:55arguably quite impressive, you are disqualified.
- 42:57Yeah. Totally fair.
- 43:00It's so fair. If it's two laps, yeah, I can't
- 43:02remember. I think, I think it's 4 minutes.
- 43:05If it's three laps, it's 3 minutes.
- 43:06If it's four laps, it's 2 minutes.
- 43:10I would like to just double check that because if it's four
- 43:12laps, knowing what it was like in Cardiff, maybe I'm optionally
- 43:14taking a couple of those penalties because towards the
- 43:17end I don't think I was running 2 minute laps.
- 43:20But that's an important thing to note.
- 43:22The next thing is that they have, like I said, they've made
- 43:25a slight adjustment to the sled pool.
- 43:27So there's no, there was no stepping over the back line.
- 43:30There was some lenience with the front line.
- 43:32Now they're going to be hot on the front line as well.
- 43:34But it's just like being hot on it because there you did get
- 43:40penalized if you went over the back line.
- 43:42But I don't know, however many hundreds of people I've seen go
- 43:46over the back line, there's only one judge standing there
- 43:49watching like 6-7 people, probably more people actually.
- 43:52And you're, you're getting, you're not getting penalized.
- 43:53I think one of the things that was difficult about the front
- 43:55line in the past is that the way that they've marked out the sled
- 43:58lanes, the front of the sled pool didn't have a white line
- 44:01all the way across it. OK, that's some of that.
- 44:05But the back line is always been a solid line.
- 44:06Where is now with the new term solid line, which is
- 44:09controversial in itself. There's a solid line so it's a
- 44:11lot easier to essentially see next one.
- 44:15I don't think anyone asked for this.
- 44:17More age groups for pro. That's not what I thought you
- 44:21were going to say. Well, I mean, it's it's not
- 44:23going to affect me. I assume 25 to 29 is a pretty
- 44:26small range. But yeah, more age groups.
- 44:30I don't know if it was essentially that necessary.
- 44:33Was it as a way of getting more people to qualify for world
- 44:35champs now that they you can only qualify through pro
- 44:37category? I don't want to say that it's a
- 44:39money making thing, but it could well be.
- 44:42It could be we've spoken about the shoes off for wool wools.
- 44:46No spitting. Yeah, so that's what I thought
- 44:48you. Were going to say off the
- 44:49Fleming which? The old snot.
- 44:50Also, yeah, I. What who's that?
- 44:53Who's doing that? Surely I've I I'm saying that,
- 44:58but I've seen people spit on the run and I'm just like, what is
- 45:01wrong with you? I How have you got saliva in
- 45:04your? Mouth I So can you safely say
- 45:06that I've never done that? The the whole snot rocket thing,
- 45:08that's wild. I've never seen anyone do that.
- 45:10I understand that some people get dry mouth and then try and
- 45:13have like a gel and it just gets minging in their mouth.
- 45:16But at the same time, do you know what I was about to say?
- 45:19At the same time, just be better.
- 45:20But like sometimes you can't. Sometimes you're in a position
- 45:25where like you are on the run and there's no water or
- 45:27anything. I don't know what I would do in
- 45:30that situation. But I'm just like, if your mouth
- 45:33is dry and you need water, why is the first thing you're going
- 45:37to think about doing is spitting?
- 45:39No, not that your mouth is so like you've almost got like the
- 45:42sticky mouth, OK, you've had a gel and you want to have water
- 45:46and like it's now like. There's no way you can spit
- 45:48though because it's just like it's all stuck together in your
- 45:51mouth. I.
- 45:51Don't know, I feel like I've had it in sport and I'm I hate
- 45:53spitting just. Spit in the bin.
- 45:56There's enough bins around. There are and and some places,
- 45:59and this isn't actually mentioned, but some places we're
- 46:02giving out penalties this year for not putting your.
- 46:04Cups in. I think that's fine.
- 46:06Yeah, that's fine. I think that is, but that's so
- 46:08fucking harsh. Yeah, it is what it is.
- 46:12With that, as far as I'm aware, is pretty much all the wall
- 46:15changes. The only other one that was
- 46:17mentioned, which I thought was pretty much guaranteed anyway,
- 46:19was if you start in the wrong way you're disqualified.
- 46:21Yeah, or you can't. If you can't start in an earlier
- 46:23wave, wait for your own wave. I didn't know you could do that
- 46:26in first place. In fact, there are two people
- 46:28checking numbers every single time you go in, So surely not my
- 46:31fault if it happens. Yeah.
- 46:34So that that is the hierarchical changes.
- 46:36Is there anything else that you would you have picked up on
- 46:39going into next season? I don't think so.
- 46:40Obviously the big one is that you can only qualify for world
- 46:43champs through pro category, which is the way it should have
- 46:45been anyway. But yeah, that is what it is
- 46:47now. But does that ruin racing?
- 46:51Maybe a little bit. And like the fun of the
- 46:54literally anyone and everyone could in theory, qualify.
- 46:58Because I don't think I'm ever going to do an open race again
- 47:01unless it's purely fun, like with how and genuinely with how
- 47:04much the tickets cost now, I don't see myself wanting to do
- 47:08an open race because that's quite a lot of money to do well
- 47:12to go towards something that actually doesn't get me
- 47:13anywhere. Yeah, in the sport.
- 47:15Well, I mean, if it's like there'll be the the large
- 47:19percentage of people are just doing high rocks for fun, aren't
- 47:21they? So I guess it's neither here nor
- 47:23there. But for someone like me.
- 47:25Nice. Yeah.
- 47:25For Someone Like You who is looking towards the the the
- 47:30higher end of the sport and looking to qualify for world
- 47:32champs then you shouldn't be wasting your time on open
- 47:35category. And that's, that's genuinely why
- 47:36I think I have a bit of a love for mixed double s because I get
- 47:39to do the open way without having to do it.
- 47:40And I I I also. Well, then I you'll have to
- 47:43you'll have to be able to qualify then if there, there
- 47:46must still be. Mixed level is still technically
- 47:49mental because it's still women's pro way, but that's
- 47:51just. Going to make it even more
- 47:52competitive, I think. Yeah, it's going to, even though
- 47:55it was probably one of the most competitive categories.
- 47:57Anyway, yeah. So yeah, that's that's the high
- 48:00world wrap up, which brings us nicely.
- 48:02Yeah, sorry if you didn't like high rocks.
- 48:04Yeah, we we kept it short and sweet, but now if you are
- 48:08thinking about giving it a go, we've updated you with the
- 48:09rules. There's no excuses.
- 48:13The game this week? Oh, we're already.
- 48:15There. I think we're there.
- 48:16OK, I've invented the game this week.
- 48:20So listeners, please do bear with I gave this a trial run
- 48:24this afternoon and I think it went well.
- 48:26Essentially what we've. Got not with me by.
- 48:28The way, yeah, not with, but the take away was that it would work
- 48:32better with you because apparently you and I think more
- 48:36alike than me and my own girlfriend.
- 48:39Slightly concerning, yeah. So what's going to go on here is
- 48:43we are going to play a game where we're going to give each
- 48:46other topics. Now the topics we're giving, we
- 48:50have each made a list of five things associated to that topic.
- 48:54As an example, Charles could give me his, he could say top
- 49:00five dinners. Right now what I'm going to do
- 49:04is I'm going to guess the five things he's put on his list that
- 49:07he has down as top five dinners. For every single one that I
- 49:11guess that is on his list, he gets a point.
- 49:13So it is in his interest that I am probably going to guess them.
- 49:17So he can't just think about himself.
- 49:18He's got to think about things that I think are in his top five
- 49:21dinners. So there's a bit of a two way to
- 49:23this because he's going to get all the points and I don't want,
- 49:26I'm going to be fair. I'm not going to just be like
- 49:28broccoli on its own, like really niche.
- 49:30Yeah, OK, because I actually want the the satisfaction of
- 49:33guessing them. But we have both written our two
- 49:37topics and our list of five things down.
- 49:39I'm really nervous now. Would you like to go 1st and
- 49:41tell me one of your topics? OK, what is your first topic for
- 49:47me to guess? Meal deal snacks.
- 49:53Oh, OK. That's good, right?
- 49:55That's a really good, right. OK, so we've got 5 that you need
- 49:58to guess, and I don't think I've done that good a job, but in my
- 50:02head I was like, I need to find a topic that he loves and that I
- 50:06always say I'm very passionate about.
- 50:08I did. Have a meal deal today?
- 50:10But then then I then as I was writing them down, I was like,
- 50:13I'm struggling to know what his choices would be beyond maybe
- 50:16like one or two. 5 is a lot of different snacks because I'm a
- 50:19creature of habit with meal deals.
- 50:22I don't know if you are as well, because then if you are, then
- 50:24you only you only have. To I have my backups.
- 50:26I have my backup OK, fine, so I can roll through those OK, so
- 50:29meal deal snacks. And this is this is where the
- 50:32game's hard. I don't know if you've got
- 50:33things that you know I get or I'm supposed to know you get.
- 50:38I'm going to start off with the chicken satay skewers.
- 50:40Oh, Charles, Yeah, I didn't have that one.
- 50:43OK, I I merely wrote that one down as well.
- 50:46So tough. I'm going to go for another.
- 50:48I'm going to go for another great option for me which might
- 50:53get slated pork pies. I'm going to give myself sausage
- 50:58rolls. OK, Yeah, yeah.
- 50:59Because like I was saying, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 51:01Pork pies not there. Yeah.
- 51:02Yeah, I'm giving myself. Like cool, a lot of people
- 51:05listening going to me like that's bollocks.
- 51:07No, it's OK. That's fully fair.
- 51:11A grenade protein bar. I didn't even put a protein bar
- 51:14either. Oh no, this is not going well.
- 51:16This game's great. So glad I invented it.
- 51:20Two more, two more, two more. It's like a shoo in snack.
- 51:24It's like when you think meal deal.
- 51:26It's a classic snack. Everyone gets it.
- 51:31I am having an Emma Radicani moment.
- 51:33Yeah, now everyone gets. I don't think like.
- 51:36It wouldn't necessarily be my go to, but if you think like
- 51:40standard, run-of-the-mill person going to get a meal deal,
- 51:43they're getting their main meal and then they're getting this as
- 51:46a snack for sure. Standard person that does
- 51:49fitness or no? Just general population.
- 51:52I'm so sorry. When you see a photo a.
- 51:54A packet of crisps, yes. OK.
- 51:56OK. OK, Chris.
- 51:57OK. There you go all.
- 52:01Right, so you've got one point. Sorry, no.
- 52:03I'm. Taking the sausage roll 1.
- 52:05Oh yeah, 2 points. Sorry.
- 52:07So I've got one more, one more guess.
- 52:09What else would you have gone for?
- 52:11Come on Angus, be good. Sushi.
- 52:18What? Sushi is an elite snack if you
- 52:21can get a decent one. I didn't even know that was a
- 52:23snack. Yeah, they've got the main and
- 52:25they've got the snack version. Obviously not.
- 52:27OK, So what were you? What was your list?
- 52:28What? Was your whole list my list?
- 52:30Now I don't want to tell you I had fruit pot.
- 52:33Because I. Was just like I nearly said,
- 52:34mango Standard, standard choice. Quite a lot of those free pots
- 52:38are main now as well. Not the big ones, the small
- 52:41ones. OK, then the yoghurt pouch.
- 52:43Because I was like, we'd spoken about that before on the
- 52:46podcast. Terrible choice.
- 52:48Yeah, it wasn't great. Then I put crisps.
- 52:50Yeah, and they put pepperami. I'm not a child.
- 52:55They're like as big as my little finger.
- 52:59I'm not going for that as my whole.
- 53:00And then and then I had the sausage rolls.
- 53:02Oh, it's not been a good. Round.
- 53:04That's not a good round. OK, I'm bringing it back to
- 53:06sport. OK, Perfect NBA basketball
- 53:10teams. OK, this is good.
- 53:13This is better. I don't know if I can name 5.
- 53:17Right. I'm going Bulls.
- 53:20Correct. Good.
- 53:22OK, I've got one. Lakers.
- 53:24Correct. Oh, I'm I'm going to go the
- 53:29Celtics. Yes, OK, this is very good.
- 53:33I've I've. Here, when I was writing my
- 53:35list, I had to do so much thinking about how you were
- 53:38going to think about this. OK.
- 53:40Do you think I was thinking of players who played for the teams
- 53:43or geography? That and some other
- 53:46considerations as well. That's.
- 53:47Useless to me, Miami Heat. Correct.
- 53:51Oh my, 4 out of five. Oh my God, if you get this last
- 53:54one. Amy was right, we do think more
- 53:57alike than. I'm going to say Golden State
- 54:01Warriors. Fuck no.
- 54:02Is that even a team? Yeah, yeah, I went for Oklahoma
- 54:06because they just won. I thought you'd go for that
- 54:09because you'd be like, he'll do that because they just won.
- 54:14OK, see. That was good, that.
- 54:16Was really good. That was a really good round.
- 54:17Well, I got caught between with Miami Heat and New York Knicks
- 54:21because I was like, if he likes friends, they talk about the
- 54:24Knicks all the time friends. And he might just go for that
- 54:26because it rolls off his tongue, but the Knicks are bad.
- 54:27I'm. I'm Yeah.
- 54:29What order did you have them? Boston Celtics.
- 54:31OK, Oklahoma. Was this an order that you
- 54:33thought I would get them or just random?
- 54:35Just the order that they came into my head.
- 54:37Boston Celtics, Oklahoma, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Miami
- 54:40Heat. Interesting.
- 54:42Miami Heat, I very nearly went for the Cavaliers as well
- 54:46because like, if you're going to think of LeBron, yeah, then you
- 54:48might go cleaver. Such it's yeah, it's definitely
- 54:51a tough one to choose. OK your next my next one I went
- 54:56best gym strength exercises. You're going to get some big
- 55:01points here, so. I hope so.
- 55:03OK. Squat.
- 55:04Not already got it. I thought you're going to say
- 55:06no. Yeah.
- 55:07Squats #1 on my list. Yeah, bench press.
- 55:12Oh no, I'm just going to go for the three powerlifting exercises
- 55:18straight off, but I'm not going deadlift.
- 55:20Good. Yeah, OK.
- 55:21I like your style. Yeah, I I didn't have bench
- 55:23because I was doing, I was doing like what you would probably
- 55:27program for yourself. See, now that has changed what I
- 55:31was going to say next. Maybe I'm going to save that
- 55:34until the end. I'm going to save that until the
- 55:35end. Or if I can struggle.
- 55:37So what was it? Strength building exercise.
- 55:39Just best strength exercises and the.
- 55:41Best strength exercise in the gym?
- 55:43So we've got squat. That's it.
- 55:46We're doing. Well, we are doing well.
- 55:50Overhead press, yes, OK, build an exercise.
- 55:58So we've got that. Again, we've got nothing else.
- 56:08And I thought, full body. Yeah, we've got them all, Slash.
- 56:14Also just things that you'd said to me previously on previous
- 56:17episodes. Yeah.
- 56:19So I think I am actually going to say the thing that I don't
- 56:23know if you've avoided. I'm going to say pull ups.
- 56:27Good choice. OK.
- 56:28I have pull ups. You've got three out of four so
- 56:30far. The last one good overall
- 56:33strength building exercise. There's one that comes to mind
- 56:36you could which I think is prevalent for me at the moment
- 56:39because I've started programming this myself in this time away
- 56:44from hierarchs. Oh shit.
- 56:47Just thought of another thing. The pressure's on.
- 56:50Let's go for what I was going to say, glute thrusts.
- 56:55Why would you go for that? What was it?
- 56:58I had RDLS because I was like, he's not going to go for
- 57:01deadlifts, but he he wants to put some sort of ham sharing
- 57:04like posterior work in. So that was one of them.
- 57:06And then Bulgarian split squats. See.
- 57:09You didn't think I'd go squats and split squats?
- 57:11I didn't think you'd do squats and split squats and probably
- 57:14another lower body exercise. So when I was thinking I'm going
- 57:17to go lower body exercise, I was thinking let's.
- 57:20But you know, when we did the blind ranking and you were like,
- 57:23I when you put Bulgarian split squats too, and I was like,
- 57:26what? And you're like, I don't think
- 57:28there's a movement that does its job better than a split squats.
- 57:31So I'm just like, come on, Angus.
- 57:34For some reason, I kind of took your list is like if I'm going
- 57:36to have the five best exercise, I'm only going to do those for
- 57:39the rest of my life. OK, That's how I.
- 57:40Maybe it wasn't. Communicated well.
- 57:42OK, my next topic. How many?
- 57:45How many points are you on now then?
- 57:47Not many. I think I got 2 in the meal deal
- 57:49and maybe 3 there. OK.
- 57:51Cool. So you're on five.
- 57:52We were already going to make this first to five, but that
- 57:53would mean that I don't get a turn now and I want to have my
- 57:56turn. So Winter Olympic events.
- 57:59Why you do this to me? I'll be fair to you in that I
- 58:06haven't put like distances or like.
- 58:09It's just like a. It's like, it's kind of like a
- 58:11sport, but a lot of the sports use the same equipment, so or
- 58:14similar. Equipment, OK, so if I say one
- 58:16it could be like? Yeah.
- 58:18And I will do it within reason, because I'm aware that I get the
- 58:20points here right. So if I say skiing, does that
- 58:25count or you're like I need downhill or slalom?
- 58:28OK, so I put slalom slash slash downhill skiing.
- 58:31So I just said both of those. Yeah, but there's other within
- 58:33the realm. Yeah, but there are other things
- 58:36that have got the word skiing in.
- 58:37OK, so I get a point. You get.
- 58:40I get a point, right. So then obviously it's going to
- 58:43be like cross country skiing. Yes, right.
- 58:46Two points. Is that a Winter Olympic sport?
- 58:51Yeah. I thought it was like Biathon.
- 58:53No big Winter Olympic sport Nordic ski.
- 58:55Well, I I know it's a big sport. But I think there's a distance
- 58:57it relates to. It's like 5000 meters Nordic.
- 58:59Oh right, Nordic ski. But I thought it was like you
- 59:01skied with a gun on your back. Yeah, that's also sick that that
- 59:05is a sport. Yeah, that's a great sport.
- 59:07We need to talk about winter, about cross country skiing.
- 59:11Well, in episode, let's say 75 to 80 ish, it'll be the right
- 59:18time. OK, so if you're listening to
- 59:19this, subscribe, share it with her.
- 59:22Because I I want to talk about the summer variation with the
- 59:25people rollerblading with the poles in the park.
- 59:29And if you were excited by episode 70 to 80, we'll come
- 59:31back next time because we'll talk about people with holes in
- 59:35the park. I want to get into it and I
- 59:37don't know how you do, so if anyone listening can help me out
- 59:39with that. Anyway, we digress.
- 59:42So then if I say snowboarding, I've got some options here
- 59:46because it could be like it's a half pipe.
- 59:49Or it could have. Options.
- 59:50Yeah, or like snowboard cross I think is a sport.
- 59:53It is. I'm going to park snowboarding
- 59:56for a second base of your reaction.
- 59:58OK I'm struggling already and I've only done 1/2 things.
- 1:00:04We have got both of them though they were both points.
- 1:00:07OK, what else do you do at the Winter Olympics?
- 1:00:10I know, right? I was thinking that.
- 1:00:12What else have I watched? There's got to be some like
- 1:00:19tricky, like trick skiing like. OK.
- 1:00:24I don't know what it's called though.
- 1:00:25I think it, I think it's aerial. When they go down off like the
- 1:00:29huge jump or mogul No, that's. Different about it.
- 1:00:34Couldn't like the speed moguls. I'm I'm stumped.
- 1:00:37I don't know any anything about the Winter Olympics.
- 1:00:39I hate the Winter Olympics. Every time we do a quiz I get
- 1:00:45this. Isn't a quiz.
- 1:00:46It feels like a quiz. I'm sweating.
- 1:00:50All right, well, then I'm going to.
- 1:00:51I'm going to go for that aerial trick jumping ski thing.
- 1:00:55Zero point. Brilliant.
- 1:00:57So how many guesses do I have? Left two?
- 1:00:59You've got two, Yeah. All right, so we need need to go
- 1:01:02back to snowboarding because I'm clutching at straws here.
- 1:01:04OK, everyone listening is like, how do you not know anything
- 1:01:07about winter sports? So I'm going to go for, I don't
- 1:01:13know what it's called, the halfpipe, snowboarding halfpipe.
- 1:01:160 points. What's that called?
- 1:01:19Halfpipe. Is it perfect?
- 1:01:23Let me have a think. We've exhausted skiing.
- 1:01:28We're exhausted snowboarding. What I will say, and this is
- 1:01:33actually not to this, this might just confuse you more just to
- 1:01:36fill the time while you think things.
- 1:01:39Ski and snowball cross are my favorite events to watch at the
- 1:01:42Olympics. I think they're sick.
- 1:01:45They are. They are so.
- 1:01:45Early. Yeah, they are.
- 1:01:47And like, there's, there's, I can't remember when it was.
- 1:01:49It was like a few Olympics ago. The women's snowball the.
- 1:01:52Shoe in. And then she did a trick on the
- 1:01:54last Trump until Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:56I remember watching that. Yeah.
- 1:01:57That was that was sick, not for her, but for everyone.
- 1:02:01So that's now played some serious mind games with me.
- 1:02:05It has because you want me to say one of those or you don't
- 1:02:10want me to say one of those. And then if you want me to say
- 1:02:13one of those, which one am I choosing now?
- 1:02:16I didn't know ski cross was a thing so I'm going to go for
- 1:02:20snowboard cross. OK, no 0 points.
- 1:02:24So I actually got two points out of that, which means I think
- 1:02:27overall it's just win by one point.
- 1:02:29Your own fault for choosing winter.
- 1:02:30Sports. It's not.
- 1:02:31It's it's your fault for not being a better understanding and
- 1:02:34forgetting half of what the Winter Olympics is about.
- 1:02:37What happens when you freeze water?
- 1:02:40Oh, Charles, ice hockey. It wasn't even one of them, but
- 1:02:43I thought you were skating ice. Well, you didn't say it.
- 1:02:46Figure skating. I put figure skating.
- 1:02:48Bobsleigh. Oh yeah, I forgot about all of
- 1:02:51these luge. Ski jumping.
- 1:02:54That's. Sick.
- 1:02:55Yeah. And then you got slalom,
- 1:02:58downhill and Nordic. Skiing.
- 1:03:00I said the same thing about four times different ways.
- 1:03:03Yeah, yeah, Perfect. I I was like the only things
- 1:03:05that happened at the Windsor Olympics of skiing and snow.
- 1:03:07When I got to yeah, I forgot about skating.
- 1:03:09I was really stuck about speed skating, figure skating and ice
- 1:03:12hockey. And for some reason I was like,
- 1:03:15he's not going to say he's going to forget ice hockey.
- 1:03:17I didn't understand that you were going to forget every
- 1:03:18everything. Well, I mean, I think I by one
- 1:03:23point, but I actually quite liked that game.
- 1:03:24That was good. So I'll do that again.
- 1:03:27And that rounds off the Rock Sport game.
- 1:03:29Section it does, yeah. Now that was quite a packed
- 1:03:34episode. You can tell that we've feel
- 1:03:35like we've had to talk about, but I feel like we've done a
