- Jessica Figueroa: Hey listeners, Cindy Marlar here with our Just For Today podcast. This one's a good one. Again from Dale Carnegie. We are going to expect ingratitude and not let it bother us. Ooh, I'm gonna say that again. Just for today, we are gonna expect people to not be grateful. That's it. Expect everyone in your life, your spouse, your friends, your children, the people you work with, the people you text with, the people on social media, you're gonna expect them. Not be grateful. And then you're not going to let it bother you. That's what we're going to do together just for today. Because the reality is if we do good things expecting gratitude, we will spend our entire lives disappointed. We should be doing good things simply because it's who we are, who we see ourselves to be, not to collect some sort of emotional debt from other people. And if you're doing something Good, it might be good, but it's not who you are, and you're not doing it just to feel good yourself, then stop doing it. Then stop doing it. Maybe that's something you need to stop doing. Because if you're doing something that people aren't grateful for and it's causing you all this turmoil, then stop doing it and find the thing that you can do with joy over and over again without getting any gratitude from anyone. And it doesn't bother you because there are those things. You just have to find them. So just for today, we are going to spend our day expecting people to be ungrateful. And then we're going to practice not letting it bother us. They didn't say thank you. They didn't wave to you when you let them in the parking spot. We're just going to expect that. We're going to expect the entire world to not be grateful today. Everyone we encounter today is going to the most selfish, ungrateful person, and we are not going to let it bother us. Why? Because if we get in the habit of expecting gratitude, we are setting ourselves up for a life of disappointment. And there is no point doing that to ourselves because we get this big, beautiful life to live with this amazing God who loves us so much, our Heavenly Father. So that's what we're gonna do today. Expect ingratitude. But just for today, tomorrow I'd like you to teach your kids gratitude again. Just for today, it's okay to expect ingratitude. I'll see you guys tomorrow.
