- 2:34Congratulations, you are a winner.
- 2:37Yeah, you don't want to do Grant DM me your mailing address and I'm going to give you
- 2:40a copy of the free book, Disruptor Die.
- 2:43See, that's how we start here, given stuff away, right?
- 2:46All right, all right, Megan Anderson, you trailblazer, you, for those who may not know who
- 2:52you are, you're the VP of Marketing for MBS Highway.
- 2:55I didn't want to steal your thunder there, but why don't you give us your quick backgrounder?
- 2:59Yeah, so I've been in the mortgage space now for about four going on five years.
- 3:05I honestly feel like I've been part of this space ever since I could remember.
- 3:09My dad was in construction, he was a builder.
- 3:12My mom works at a bank as well, she's an originator and it's crazy how we all just kind of
- 3:18end up, isn't it?
- 3:19Yeah, and what's really, you know, for me anyways, as I've been watching you kind of,
- 3:27if I can dare say grow or expand your influence and awareness in the industry is, it seems
- 3:31to be you've taken hold of this topic, which I want to talk about today, was how to be
- 3:36confident on camera.
- 3:37Is that, safest, is that kind of, do you own that?
- 3:40Yes, my favorite thing in the world and my passion and my purpose is solely just to help
- 3:46people feel more confident and comfortable really in this realm and just promoting themselves
- 3:51in their business through social media and social realms.
- 3:55Awesome.
- 3:56So we're going to talk about how to be confident on camera and people, if you're watching,
- 3:59put your questions in now, whether you're on Facebook or YouTube, I don't know where
- 4:02you're at, but just put your questions in because Megan has done a lot of training for
- 4:07loan officers on how to become confident on camera.
- 4:10Caitlin Shive, I got to give a quick shout out to you.
- 4:12One of my super fans out there, she loves the book, can't put it down.
- 4:16Can't tell you how much that means to me, so thank you for that.
- 4:19All right, let's start with, you know, evaluating, where do I enter this conversation?
- 4:26Let me put it this way and you tell me if you hear this as well.
- 4:29The biggest objections I hear from originators on, why they don't do more video, is first
- 4:33and foremost, I don't like how I finish the sentence.
- 4:39Yeah, I don't like how I look.
- 4:41I don't like how I look on camera.
- 4:43Okay.
- 4:44How do you respond to that?
- 4:45Well, at the end of the day, you're doing this to promote your brand, build your business,
- 4:51get more clients through the door and at the end of the day, all your clients know what
- 4:56you look like and they're going to know what you look like at some point, right?
- 5:01At some point, we can't let that little judgemental voice come in and keep us from taking
- 5:06action when it comes to anything in life.
- 5:09But that tends to be the number one dare I say it excuse on why people are not doing
- 5:15videos.
- 5:16Do you think it's legit though?
- 5:18Let's pause for a second.
- 5:19By the way, I see your questions coming in.
- 5:20We'll get to them, Caitlin and Grant.
- 5:21Thanks for putting the questions in.
- 5:23Grant, you already won a book, so I don't know what you want next, but thanks for the question.
- 5:28Do you think it's legit though?
- 5:29Look, look, you and I are on camera.
- 5:32Do you think camera changes how you look a little bit though?
- 5:36Or is it just much more pronounced?
- 5:39I think that we, whether it's photo or video, I think we just come in and judge ourselves.
- 5:46Now, angles have a lot to do with it.
- 5:49Before I got in the mortgage space, I did a lot of modeling, I did bodybuilding shows,
- 5:54and I'm telling you 90% of how I would look was based off of angles.
- 5:59So one that leads us in to realizing that one way to feel more comfortable on video
- 6:04is to make sure that you have angles that flatter your face.
- 6:08So I like to lift the camera up so we get this nice kind of lean look in my face.
- 6:14You can't see the double-trip everything coming up and on here.
- 6:18Make sure that people can't see up your nostrils, that you feel better.
- 6:23So it's these little tips and tricks and light.
- 6:26So that it makes your face glow and you look nice.
- 6:30There's just little tips and tricks that you can kind of take notice of.
- 6:34And posture has a big thing to do with it as well.
- 6:37You know, if I was to sit here like this and tell you guys,
- 6:39hey, you need to be doing video, you'd be like, this is gross.
- 6:42She does not look confident at all, but the second you kind of sit up straight,
- 6:46roll your shoulders back and have all these little things in place,
- 6:50that can really make a difference with how you feel like you appear on camera.
- 6:55Right on, right on.
- 6:56You're so right there.
- 6:57Angles and lighting are important because all of us have that kind of non-flatter.
- 7:01I used to think it was a joke like when we would take my photos or my wife and I would
- 7:04take photos with a fan or whatever and she's like, you know, no, no, no, no over here,
- 7:08get my good side.
- 7:09And I was just like, what are you talking about?
- 7:10But there is a good side, huh?
- 7:11Is that what you're saying?
- 7:12There are good sides.
- 7:13There are good angles.
- 7:14You just have to find them.
- 7:16All right.
- 7:17So speaking of angles, here we go.
- 7:18Grant Young.
- 7:19He's hot on the buttons here today.
- 7:21Congratulations.
- 7:22He's asking, how do I learn good angles?
- 7:26It's all about practicing.
- 7:27You have to start practicing in order to perfect it, but I would just say in general, make
- 7:32sure that you lift your camera up and listen, it's not always pretty.
- 7:36I'm traveling all the time, you know what I've been using this week because I've been
- 7:39in the office in New Jersey.
- 7:41I've been using a big Starbucks cardboard box to pop my computer up on and I've seen
- 7:47people get creative with this from books to whatever the case may be.
- 7:52But just by propping that up a little bit, you're going to have a longer, leaner face
- 7:56and appearance.
- 7:57Yeah.
- 7:58So that's the best practice as well is have the camera at pretty much, you know, head
- 8:03level, eye level, whatever.
- 8:04Don't be looking up.
- 8:05Don't be looking down.
- 8:06I mean, we're trying to do that right here if you're watching on the video here.
- 8:10That's what we try and do.
- 8:11If you can't see behind me, the webcam is actually up higher.
- 8:15And I'm actually, as you're saying this, I'm like, oh, I need to sit up straight and
- 8:18listen.
- 8:19But it is a process.
- 8:20It's not like he comes instantly out of the box and you're and you're rocking, right?
- 8:24You learn and you evolve.
- 8:25Yep.
- 8:26Yep.
- 8:27Okay.
- 8:28Let's see.
- 8:29Grant's also asking, Grant is just a winner today, man.
- 8:31Caitlin, I see your question.
- 8:32We'll get to it.
- 8:34How should I start or open a video?
- 8:36What's your recommendation?
- 8:37Ooh, I loved it.
- 8:38Question.
- 8:39Yeah.
- 8:40I would start it with what I call a hook and you've probably heard this before.
- 8:46It's really, when you think about who am I creating this video for?
- 8:50So maybe it's for a first time home buyer, whatever the case may be.
- 8:53I want you to think about those questions that you could ask repetitively.
- 8:57What is the pain point that they often experience?
- 9:00What's an emotion?
- 9:02Just think about everything that they're going through and start the video by relating
- 9:06to them.
- 9:07Because then what you're going to do is you're going to go into providing a solution to
- 9:11whatever that pain point or question might be.
- 9:14But we people have short attention spans as we know and we have to hook them into why
- 9:20they should watch the video or they're just going to keep scrolling to the next one.
- 9:24100%.
- 9:25And that is, of course, also one of the secrets, if you will, of people that are successful
- 9:29on YouTube is if you watch the players on YouTube, it always opens up with a hook to your
- 9:34point, Megan, which is telling which is the old sales thing, right?
- 9:37Tell them what you're going to tell them, right?
- 9:40I had a time.
- 9:41So yeah, why should I watch and listen to this video?
- 9:43Mark, I see your question there or statement or comment about using reams of paper.
- 9:49I don't know what that means, except maybe that's how you're setting up your camera or something
- 9:53possibly.
- 9:54It works.
- 9:55Whatever works.
- 9:56Yeah, whatever works.
- 9:57So you said Amazon Box.
- 9:58You can't see it here.
- 9:59I've got a box down here as well.
- 10:00That's what I use on the laptop.
- 10:01If I'm using the laptop camera, okay, stuff, keep the good questions coming in.
- 10:07Caitlin, she's one of our advanced students.
- 10:09Do you do much editing?
- 10:10And I'm just curious if you have any editing software platform recommendations and recording
- 10:15tools?
- 10:16Two-part question.
- 10:17Two-part question.
- 10:18Well, we have a team that edits a lot of, you know, more of the content that we're going
- 10:23to go ahead and post.
- 10:24Yeah.
- 10:25But I do use things to edit videos that I'm slightly proficient in, I'm a movie.
- 10:32I'm also a big supporter of the simple fact that you can make videos with any tools that
- 10:39you have.
- 10:40Now, yes, I would obviously recommend that people do a little bit of editing.
- 10:44Liz, I know we don't have a lot of time.
- 10:47You're writing refides, you're doing loans, you're selling homes, but it doesn't take too
- 10:52long to at least crop a video down to where there's not that awkward intro and that awkward
- 10:58outro where you're either starting the camera or shutting the camera off.
- 11:03So I think that there's a few moves that you can go ahead and do to ultimately increase
- 11:08the quality of that video.
- 11:10And obviously, the more you edit it and the more kind of equipment that you have to create
- 11:15a higher definition, higher quality video will be better.
- 11:18But I'm a firm believer that you do not need anything other than your cell phone to get
- 11:23out there and start doing videos that people will engage with and listen to.
- 11:28100%, and what I can do is in the show notes, I'll put links to some video editing tools
- 11:33like Wii Video, iMovies, obviously one for Microsoft, Videolicious is another good one
- 11:38on your phone app.
- 11:39So we'll put the link in the show notes because it is a little bit more of an involved conversation.
- 11:44Wow, the questions are pouring in now, Megan, our most popular guest on the live show.
- 11:49Well, the cuddle of it.
- 11:52Dennis is asking if you're using backdrops like that behind you, he's thinking that might
- 11:56be a green screen.
- 11:58This is not a green screen.
- 12:00I don't mind green screens if they look good, I feel like a lot of the time green screens
- 12:06can actually lower the quality of your video depending upon how good it is.
- 12:12But I would say that try not to do it, you don't have to go out and get me special equipment
- 12:19but try not to be in like a plain white background wall.
- 12:22I've done that before, people have told me I looked like I'm going to jail cell.
- 12:26Just find a place that looks homey.
- 12:29You don't have to have a green screen if you're doing a video at your home, make sure
- 12:33that you clean up behind you because that's really going to lower the quality of your
- 12:37video as well.
- 12:38And people are going to be like, is that a nana peel on the floor?
- 12:41Versus actually listening to your message.
- 12:44So you don't need a green screen if you do want a green screen, great.
- 12:48Just make sure it's high quality.
- 12:50I see people all the time having these kind of like shower curtain backdrops as well.
- 12:55Like I know Steve Sims uses that, there's another girl that I'm thinking of that uses it
- 13:02as well.
- 13:03She has just kind of a fabric backdrop.
- 13:06And those are great but I also recommend on those that you make sure the bottom is attached
- 13:10to the floor because I've seen where air comes on and it looks like you're in like an
- 13:15LSD.
- 13:17Not that we would know with that is like one can only assume, all right, that's good
- 13:22stuff.
- 13:23Yeah.
- 13:24So Dennis is saying he doesn't like green screens either actual backdrop.
- 13:26Look, I agree with with Megan.
- 13:28I think green screens can be problematic especially if you don't have the right clothing
- 13:32on and then you see that separation and you get the pixelating and all that kind of jazz.
- 13:35So you just need a good decent backdrop and that's a whole process enough of itself.
- 13:40You can see here, I always joke with people behind me, this has been a work in progress.
- 13:44I had the white wall, prison cells, until I got this whole thing set up and now I joke
- 13:48with people that the hardest part of this backdrop was the brick layers they had to come
- 13:52in.
- 13:53I can redo the whole, okay, no, they didn't, that's a joke, okay?
- 13:57So no, it's clearly wallpaper, that's it, right?
- 14:00With a little blue light which helps accenten, I just haven't loved the signs because I think
- 14:04that speaks the truth.
- 14:05And so you make it yours.
- 14:06Like if you're going to have this, by the way, I'm not to take away from your thunder.
- 14:10Let me pose you this question.
- 14:14In terms of consistency with video, what do you recommend, how should people set up their
- 14:20home environment or office environment, so it's easier, how do they be more consistent?
- 14:27So I like to have a specific place where I film all my videos and I use ring lights.
- 14:34I have whole set up so I'll have light in front of my face, light on the side and like
- 14:38you have a little bit of light in the background, so it really creates this in-depth experience
- 14:43when I'm filming video.
- 14:44Right.
- 14:45And I find that that is really helpful when it comes to being consistent with video because
- 14:49you don't have to get in and set up the whole process in order to start filming.
- 14:54Yes.
- 14:55The ideas and then you have the place.
- 14:57100%.
- 14:58If everybody who's watching or listening right now, if that is probably one of the best
- 15:02pieces of advice that I've ever heard, which is have a dedicated place that you don't
- 15:07have to set up and break down every time, that gets tiring.
- 15:12Crazy tiring.
- 15:13Hey, let's make a pivot real quick for a second.
- 15:15If you don't mind, Megan, for those of you who aren't aware, Megan is also a host of
- 15:21a highly acclaimed podcast behind the breakthrough, which I had the good fortune of being a guest
- 15:26on.
- 15:27Why don't you tell us a little bit about that in terms of what you, it's not your normal
- 15:32quote mortgage slash real estate podcast, what are you trying to do with that podcast?
- 15:37Yeah.
- 15:38So of the podcast out there in the mortgage and real estate realm, what I found is that
- 15:43most of them are about tactics, you know, to get an increase your business exponentially
- 15:47by this.
- 15:48But one thing that I've always been fascinated with are people's stories.
- 15:54How did they reach that level of success?
- 15:56What did they have to go through?
- 15:58What pain?
- 15:59What lessons?
- 16:00What hardship?
- 16:01And that's really what I wanted to bring into this.
- 16:04And so that's what behind the breakthrough was all about.
- 16:07It's about those stories, those pain lessons, hardships, that everyone had to go through
- 16:12in order to reach their current level of success.
- 16:15So of course, there's tactics in there as well.
- 16:18But it's really just a great place to be on there and connect with people's stories.
- 16:22Yeah.
- 16:23And I find it different and refreshing because tactics are great.
- 16:26But at some point, we need to go deeper in some cases and understand, because it's one
- 16:31thing to hear somebody talk about tactics that they applied to be successful.
- 16:35But oftentimes, it's the mindset of philosophy or beliefs behind that that make those tactics
- 16:40even work.
- 16:41Yes.
- 16:42A hundred percent.
- 16:43I can't tell you how many people on that podcast have suffered with things like imposter
- 16:49syndrome.
- 16:50Just feeling like they aren't worthy of the level of success, they aren't worthy of that
- 16:58job title.
- 16:59And just hearing their stories on shifting those beliefs, it's so powerful.
- 17:04I've learned so many lessons through that podcast.
- 17:07And everyone should go listen to the episode.
- 17:09I think I did.
- 17:10It's great episode.
- 17:11Yeah, I enjoyed it.
- 17:12You're also a great interviewer.
- 17:14So kudos to you for that.
- 17:15All right.
- 17:16We got a couple other questions here.
- 17:17I want to get to Joseph.
- 17:18Of course, Joseph wins the award for world's longest question.
- 17:22It's like two paragraphs.
- 17:25I'm trying to find the real nut in here.
- 17:29I'll just read it out loud.
- 17:30So if 99% of your competition isn't using video yet, because of whatever is holding
- 17:35them back, using videos huge competitive advantage, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 17:41I've 10xed my mortgage business in my community, all organic from leveraging consistent videos
- 17:46that add value to my audience.
- 17:48Take that leap of faith and just do it.
- 17:52Yes.
- 17:54I think that deserves a book.
- 17:56Congratulations.
- 17:57You are a winner.
- 17:59There you go.
- 18:00Joseph, the enemy man, get a free copy of this rep or die if you don't have one already
- 18:04or get one and gift it to a real estate agent.
- 18:06All right.
- 18:07Let's get back into the question thread here.
- 18:08Good job, people.
- 18:09Dennis, started with bomb bomb.
- 18:12Great concept.
- 18:13Poor execution.
- 18:14Do you mean on your part, Dennis?
- 18:15Of poor execution.
- 18:17And then you switch to loom.
- 18:18What are your thoughts about screen recording software?
- 18:23Wow.
- 18:24This sounds like a nice little curve balls at Megan.
- 18:26Whoops, whoops, whoops.
- 18:29Here's how I feel about software like that is one, I love it.
- 18:35And I've seen it firsthand through MBS Highway, because we have this tool called Social
- 18:39Studio, which turns your computer screen into a teleprompter.
- 18:43We have scripts already in there, like when the Fed cut rates to zero, when everyone was
- 18:47getting bombarded with phone calls, and they said, I have to say here and explain this
- 18:51again.
- 18:52So they could have done it, just gotten recorded that video, posted it, sent it to everyone
- 18:57that was asking that question, and that's an example of how you work smarter instead
- 19:00of harder.
- 19:02But my thoughts on this is one, if you're the kind of person that when you get really
- 19:07passionate about something and you want to talk about it, and you start to film a video
- 19:12and a five minute conversation, turns into a 20 minute video, then tools like that
- 19:16can really be helpful for you.
- 19:20It also, I find that tools like that are so beneficial for people just getting into
- 19:26doing video, because there's a lot that we have to overcome, from that mental judgment
- 19:30to a voice, to what do I say, am I going to sound salesy, the list goes on and on and
- 19:36on.
- 19:37So when we can take some of these variables out of the equation, and now all we have to
- 19:41focus on is, okay, everyone knows what I look like, everyone knows what I sound like,
- 19:45I already know what I'm going to say, because it's in here, I just have to read a script
- 19:50when you can do that and get consistent with that.
- 19:53And then you start to see the benefits that come from doing video and posting it.
- 19:58That starts to internalize our, it gives us, you know, what's the word, the confidence.
- 20:04It gives us confidence to start to go out there and want to do more video.
- 20:09So that's where I find those tools being extremely beneficial and helpful.
- 20:14So it's a way to kind of get your feet wet, get your muscles work in when it comes to
- 20:17video.
- 20:18If you don't have to be on camera, if that's going to throw you off, just do a screen
- 20:20share kind of thing.
- 20:21Right?
- 20:22Yeah, just turn it into a teleprompter, read a script, script, boom, bam, post it, go.
- 20:29Were you always so confident in front of the camera?
- 20:32No, I was always so confident in front of the camera and it's kind of a story in there.
- 20:40I feel like I've always struggled with body image issues since kind of the beginning of
- 20:45time, you know, I started going on diets when I was probably in middle school.
- 20:52In high school, I got really into doing them.
- 20:55That's when all my friends started to either become bulimit or anorexic or whatever the
- 20:59case may be.
- 21:00And then you have to deal with all the boy things and puberty and life.
- 21:05And so I really didn't have the best body image.
- 21:09And that's when I started doing body building shows.
- 21:11And I thought, this is a really healthy thing for me to do.
- 21:15And so I competed in body building shows and I thought that that would help my confidence.
- 21:21But what I noticed during that time period is that it was hiser lows.
- 21:25There's stage ready where I was extremely confident in my body, but I would still sit
- 21:30there and nitpick everything.
- 21:33I would roll the fat on my skin.
- 21:35I would look in the mirror and be like, well, that's good, but that's not good.
- 21:40Or I would be on the super low where I would be out of competing.
- 21:43So I wasn't stepping on stage for a show and I was binging.
- 21:47I was essentially overeating and binging and justifying it because I had been so restrictive
- 21:54during that time period.
- 21:55And so it really just became these highs and lows.
- 21:58And when I stopped competing, that's when I really had to sit down and deal with my
- 22:03body image issues firsthand because now all of a sudden it was, I am no longer going
- 22:08to restrict just to control my fear of gaining weight.
- 22:12And that's when I really had to step in to being okay with my body and where my body
- 22:17is at.
- 22:18And that was also the time period where I started doing a lot more video within the mortgage
- 22:23realm as well.
- 22:24So I sat there and one of my little fears and voices when I started doing video is I
- 22:30thought people were going to look at me and be like, that girl's gained like 25 pounds
- 22:35like what happened to her.
- 22:38And I had to get over that in order to be consistent with videos.
- 22:42But at the end of the day, you have to remember your why on why you're posting these videos.
- 22:48And that helps you get out of that little judgmental head and not let that small voice become
- 22:53not big voice and keep you from taking action.
- 22:55Yeah, there's a lot in there, by the way.
- 22:57Thank you for sharing your story.
- 22:59Can we, do you mind if I share that photo?
- 23:02I mean, from when you were, let me see if I can get this in a better, there we go.
- 23:07Back in the day, what are the feelings when you look at that photo, like what comes up
- 23:14for you?
- 23:15Oh, man, well, for one, I'm always going to miss that body.
- 23:19I know, like I had killer abs in cool when you can see how just 25 grams of carbohydrates
- 23:28affects your body and what it does to your body and how food manipulates it.
- 23:32But in the same stance, I look at that girl and I see, I see someone that was just afraid
- 23:41of herself at the same time and afraid of food.
- 23:46You know, I would sit there and I would spend forever calculating what I could eat, what
- 23:50I couldn't eat.
- 23:51And now I just have this sense of freedom and there's so much more about me.
- 23:56I feel like I have a lot more energy to dive into work and my passions versus just trying
- 24:00to control my body image.
- 24:03Would it be safe to say then that back then the old you had an identity caught up in how
- 24:10you look outwardly versus now it's about who you are as a person and what you have to
- 24:15give?
- 24:16Yes.
- 24:17Which is why I can't be afraid to do video either.
- 24:20It just reiterates the whole lesson.
- 24:23People are not watching your videos just based off the way you look.
- 24:26They're watching your videos because you are providing value.
- 24:30And I had to see that too.
- 24:31You know, I had to see that I had value within myself and my words.
- 24:35Yep.
- 24:36100%.
- 24:37Just my outer shell.
- 24:38Right.
- 24:39And so that I think leads us into the second and final point of our time here today, which
- 24:42is the second biggest objection.
- 24:43The first one just to recap is I don't like how I look on video.
- 24:47And you know, the final words are on that people is, you know what?
- 24:51I think that the message I'm taking from you, Megan, is you got to embrace who you are
- 24:55outwardly.
- 24:56However, to be okay with how you quote look outwardly, you've got to be okay with yourself
- 25:04inwardly.
- 25:05Right.
- 25:06However, what leads to you being okay with you, who you are, is like you said, as you're
- 25:12not focused on this, the face, the look, with a package, the reason why you can be comfortable
- 25:18being on videos because you're coming from here, heart centered, and you're focused on
- 25:23a message or a difference you want to make for somebody.
- 25:26100%.
- 25:27Okay.
- 25:28So then how do we translate that for us as mortgage originators who, I think part of
- 25:32the problem is this relates to imposter syndrome, perhaps in some ways, like, well,
- 25:36well, what am I going to say, right?
- 25:38Oh, that was the second biggest objection.
- 25:39Number one, I don't like how I look.
- 25:40Number two is, I don't know what to say.
- 25:43How are we, how can we help people with what to say?
- 25:46Well, one really easy exercise that is really helpful is I want you to stop for a second
- 25:51and I want you to think about who are those people that I work with that give me more
- 25:57energy than take from me.
- 25:58You know, they might be a hard client with a lot of problems, but at the end of the day,
- 26:02like, oh, I got to help those first time home buyers purchase their first home and you
- 26:07love that or maybe it's, you know, recently divorced mothers with children that you've
- 26:13just feel so good at the end of the day and you're like, this is why I do what I do.
- 26:17So I want you to take that.
- 26:19Maybe it's first time home buyers.
- 26:20I want you to write it across a piece of paper, put your phone away, shut off your email,
- 26:26set a timer for 10 minutes.
- 26:28And I just want you to write down every single question, pain, concern, emotion that comes
- 26:34up for these clients.
- 26:35And at the end of 10 minutes, I guarantee you, you're going to have at least 25 things
- 26:40written down on that piece of paper.
- 26:43Those are what you turn into video and it's, it's, honestly, it's that simple.
- 26:48There's another site that I really love called the answer the public.com where you can type
- 26:52in like key phrases and it will bring up everything that everybody is googling and if you do
- 26:57that, you're going to have like hundreds of topics at your fingertips in a while.
- 27:02Yeah.
- 27:03For sure.
- 27:04So take the most common questions you get from your favorite client, if you will, like
- 27:09first time home buyers, for example.
- 27:11Yeah.
- 27:12And so that's, that's an obvious place to get started right there.
- 27:16What do you, how do you feel about scripting videos versus just trying to wing it?
- 27:22I feel like scripting videos and all goes back to how I feel about getting started.
- 27:27If you're a person that sits there and you have a hard time articulating, keeping it
- 27:31short, then I think scripting videos can be really beneficial for you.
- 27:35If you're just getting started in video, you're nervous about it.
- 27:39I think that scripting videos can be a great idea for you to start to feel comfortable
- 27:43and confident.
- 27:44Me personally, I've been doing videos so much now that I don't really like to script
- 27:49videos.
- 27:50I will if it's something very specific that I want to say, I will write it out and I do
- 27:55this, honestly, with anything that I want to remember, I'll write it out or type it
- 27:59out.
- 28:00And then I'll go and I'll highlight key points, and then I'll just have those key points
- 28:04up on my computer, like up by my camera.
- 28:08And those are just to spark my memory and remind me of what it is and how I wanted to
- 28:13flow into each segment.
- 28:15So I find that that's really helpful, but scripts, I do see that they have a place especially
- 28:20when you're starting to get into video.
- 28:25Do people need a bunch of very expensive cameras and microphones and all that to get started?
- 28:32I would say invest in a good webcam or just use your phone because we have great cameras
- 28:38on here nowadays.
- 28:39And then if you wanted to up it a little bit, get a ring light, something like that so
- 28:44that it can be consistent if you're going to be doing these all the time.
- 28:48And then I would invest in a microphone.
- 28:50You know, I have a blue Yeti microphone here, I think it's like 150 bucks or something
- 28:55like that.
- 28:56And you want good audio, audio when it is crappy can really ruin a video.
- 29:03But these are things that you don't necessarily need.
- 29:06You could honestly just start with your phone and if you're going to do it in that case,
- 29:10I would not just like hold the phone up and start talking.
- 29:12I would use your earbuds so that you at least get a little bit better audio quality.
- 29:19Yeah, and look at it.
- 29:20It doesn't have to be Hollywood polished, right?
- 29:22That's not what people are coming to you for.
- 29:24They're coming to you for you.
- 29:25Yeah.
- 29:26In another tip to if people are struggling with what to say, I would say one key thing that
- 29:32you should just adopt anyways if you're not already doing this is spending time studying
- 29:38your area of expertise because when you know what's going on, when you know where the
- 29:43market's headed, it's going to make you feel more comfortable and confident just in general
- 29:48when you show up to be on camera.
- 29:51So make sure that you're prepared and you're not just doing refives, writing mortgages,
- 29:57get out of that routine a little bit and really step in and be that trusted advisor.
- 30:01Yeah, we're on the person.
- 30:03We got a question here that was buried in the earlier ones real quick.
- 30:07How long should videos be from brands?
- 30:11It depends on what you're using them for.
- 30:14I would say when it comes to just a video that you're going to post on Facebook or Instagram,
- 30:20I like to keep those relatively short, you know, within like 30 to 90 seconds.
- 30:26Now there is a limit on Instagram.
- 30:28If it's over 60, it'll have to be an Instagram TV, which really isn't a bad thing.
- 30:33But there are places for longer form content, you know, for example, like the podcast or
- 30:38like this Facebook live, this is a longer form content, which is fine.
- 30:44You just have to make sure that you're doing it within the right space and the right time.
- 30:49I love long form content because then from there you can create little micro pieces of
- 30:53content and then it makes it really easy to stay consistent.
- 30:57Absolutely.
- 30:58Pillar content and micro content.
- 31:00Here's an idea.
- 31:01I often suggest this to loan officers, be curious to get your input is it's one of the easiest
- 31:05ways to start with video is interviewing somebody.
- 31:10And I always suggest look interview a real estate agent, you know, and like talk about the
- 31:14market of the moment, which is like a lot of the questions are, hey, can I buy a house
- 31:17right now?
- 31:18What's happening?
- 31:19Is this a housing crash?
- 31:21Like if you are an MBS subscriber, which everybody here watching and listening pretty
- 31:25damn well better be or it's a, you know, so if you're not, you need to get on MBS
- 31:31highway because that will also help you with what to say, talking points.
- 31:36What's happening in the market?
- 31:37Is this going to be a housing crash recession, et cetera?
- 31:41Any quick, final points on that, you know, leveraging that kind of content for what to
- 31:44say?
- 31:45Interviews?
- 31:46I think interviews are great.
- 31:48You can interview real estate agents, interview local places around, you know, people don't
- 31:54just purchase the home to purchase the home, they purchase it because of the neighborhood
- 31:57as well.
- 31:58So don't do that interview with the local coffee shop individual or whatever the case
- 32:03may be.
- 32:04They're going to be one more than willing to right now as places continue to open back
- 32:07up and they drive business.
- 32:10But it can really just help make you feel more comfortable on camera and on MBS highway
- 32:16speaking of that.
- 32:17We actually have a tool called presentation expressway, which is pre-created PowerPoint
- 32:21slides and coaching fields.
- 32:23I've seen loan originators turn that into Facebook live interview styles with their real estate
- 32:29agents where they don't share the slides, but they kind of just like back and forth to
- 32:34talk about these things together.
- 32:36So there's tools out there to help you.
- 32:38You do not have to come up with all the content.
- 32:41You just have to find a piece of content that you like and reiterate it in your own kind
- 32:45of light.
- 32:46Yeah.
- 32:47And I guess the kind of the last point on this is folks, hey, guess what?
- 32:50There is the option on software and wherever the heck you'd be posting your video to hit
- 32:55that little button called delete.
- 32:59It doesn't have to live forever, you know?
- 33:02So what's the risk there?
- 33:06Okay, cool.
- 33:07So let's do this, Megan, for those who want to connect with you real quickly, this has
- 33:10been awesome, great kind of crash course on how to have confidence on camera.
- 33:14I would say the last thing just to reiterate is you've got to get started, right?
- 33:17I mean, just get started.
- 33:19It's kind of like, well, it's kind of like fishing, isn't it?
- 33:22I mean, you're a fish.
- 33:24What do you say?
- 33:25Fisher person?
- 33:26Fisher woman?
- 33:27You're a Fisher woman.
- 33:28You're a Fisher woman.
- 33:29Yeah.
- 33:30So I don't know if everybody knows this about Megan.
- 33:31I know if you follow you on Instagram, you see it.
- 33:34You're a badass Fisher person out there early.
- 33:38What time do you get up to go frogging?
- 33:40I get up at like five, five, thirty to go frogging.
- 33:42You have to get the first light.
- 33:45All right.
- 33:46So we were talking before the record.
- 33:47I used to live in Maine, right?
- 33:48And that'd be the best time to go early in the morning, right?
- 33:52I mean, forget about midday.
- 33:53They're hiding.
- 33:54Whatever.
- 33:55What about dusk?
- 33:56That's OK, too.
- 33:57Yeah.
- 33:58OK.
- 33:59So we've gone from video tips to fishing tips on this, on this live.
- 34:02But that's OK.
- 34:03I mean, listen, I think that's awesome and that's the fact that you get out there and
- 34:06just like roll your sleeves up, so to speak, figuratively, get dirty, get yourself a
- 34:10worm, hook it in the fish, you know, do you mostly throw them back?
- 34:13I'm curious.
- 34:14I choose throw them back.
- 34:16Now when I go deep sea fishing and I catch myself tuna, it's like bigger, I keep it
- 34:21nothing.
- 34:22Seriously, you've reeled in a tuna?
- 34:23No, not yet.
- 34:25That's on the bucket list, right?
- 34:28Yes.
- 34:29Got that sushi up before you get back.
- 34:31That's awesome.
- 34:32All right.
- 34:33So for people who want to connect with you, where's the best place for them to do that?
- 34:35Yes.
