- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello.
- 0:01Speaker 2: My name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yr the
- 0:05Speaker 2: Order Kerney Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before we
- 0:08Speaker 2: get started on She's on the Money podcast, I would
- 0:11Speaker 2: like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land of
- 0:14Speaker 2: which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country, acknowledging
- 0:18Speaker 2: the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming through.
- 0:23Speaker 2: As this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing and
- 0:27Speaker 2: the storytelling of you to make a difference for today
- 0:31Speaker 2: and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money podcast for
- 1:00Speaker 4: people who love a bargain. My name is Becksided and
- 1:03Speaker 4: as usual, I'm joined by Victoria Divine. Hello, Bet Divine Victoria.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I am very excited about this episode because anything I
- 1:12Speaker 5: love a little bargain and one of the biggest bargain
- 1:15Speaker 5: days ever is coming up.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And people have already been dming me.
- 1:19Speaker 5: They're like, Victoria, I don't mean to enable you, but
- 1:21Speaker 5: look at this list of discounts. I'm like, look, I'm
- 1:24Speaker 5: probably not gonna post it to my stories, but I
- 1:26Speaker 5: am going to do a little sneaky screenshot so I
- 1:28Speaker 5: can save it for myself for later. Yes, So like
- 1:31Speaker 5: not mad, just kind of trying not to enable the
- 1:34Speaker 5: rest of the community because I think so many of
- 1:37Speaker 5: us are a little bit like tap happy, and spending
- 1:40Speaker 5: is like really hard to control when there's a big sale.
- 1:43Speaker 1: So what are we talking about today? Beck?
- 1:45Speaker 4: Okay, So it's a dangerous time of year. We are
- 1:48Speaker 4: talking about Black Friday. We are the slippery slope. And
- 1:53Speaker 4: if you have even an ounce of self control, I
- 1:56Speaker 4: feel like you're kind of safe. But I don't, and
- 1:58Speaker 4: anyone like I don't.
- 1:59Speaker 6: I don't have any need to.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Do I because I got ADHD.
- 2:01Speaker 5: You know, there's so many people in the same boat
- 2:03Speaker 5: as us, But we should not have been put on
- 2:04Speaker 5: a podcast together, like who did this?
- 2:07Speaker 6: A financial potridad this?
- 2:08Speaker 5: I did this When picking a new co host, I
- 2:10Speaker 5: was like, Beck, do you want to come on the pod?
- 2:11Speaker 5: And You're like yes, And now we just like get
- 2:14Speaker 5: together and vibe off each other and I don't do
- 2:16Speaker 5: any work.
- 2:16Speaker 6: We're very bad influence.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Let's go shopping.
- 2:18Speaker 6: But we have touched on Black.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Friday before, and I wonder what actually is it all right?
- 2:24Speaker 5: So Black Friday actually originated in America, which I've just
- 2:28Speaker 5: come back from, and is a huge sale that is
- 2:32Speaker 5: post their Thanksgiving. It's held on the fourth Friday of
- 2:36Speaker 5: November each and every single year, and officially finishes on
- 2:39Speaker 5: the following Monday, which they call Cyber Monday. Nowadays, it's
- 2:43Speaker 5: obviously now grown beyond America and is an international event
- 2:46Speaker 5: that spans long past the last Friday in November. Because
- 2:50Speaker 5: if brands are good at anything, it is milking a
- 2:54Speaker 5: sale that drives revenue. It's like, if I had a
- 2:57Speaker 5: product based business, I'd be like, well, Black Friday every
- 3:00Speaker 5: day back, but you might actually start seeing sales advertised
- 3:04Speaker 5: at the beginning of November or even earlier than that.
- 3:07Speaker 5: I feel like I've been seeing all of these posts
- 3:09Speaker 5: and people have been sending me like Black Friday cheat
- 3:12Speaker 5: codes and stuff since early October, so I don't think
- 3:15Speaker 5: it is uncommon for them to start early. But like,
- 3:18Speaker 5: if again, I had a product based business, you best
- 3:21Speaker 5: believe I'd.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Be like, hey, Beck, we're having a sale. Keep an
- 3:23Speaker 1: eye out, you know.
- 3:24Speaker 6: Yes, very very cheeky and effective.
- 3:28Speaker 4: Yeah it is ver recent of the time, but yes,
- 3:30Speaker 4: it is a very hectic time of year and it
- 3:32Speaker 4: is coming up soon, so it can be quite overwhelming
- 3:34Speaker 4: for a lot of people, especially if you've been saving
- 3:37Speaker 4: and you feel like this urge to just spend, spend, spend,
- 3:40Speaker 4: especially because it's like, oh, well, it's just one time
- 3:42Speaker 4: of year where everything I want is on special.
- 3:45Speaker 6: So it may as well spend.
- 3:46Speaker 1: But it's probably not.
- 3:49Speaker 6: Maybe as smart as we it's not.
- 3:51Speaker 5: We can be smart, though, can It's what we do
- 3:53Speaker 5: in the She's on the Money community totally. We absolutely
- 3:56Speaker 5: need to be smart with this because even though people
- 3:59Speaker 5: are sending me the cheat codes and people are letting
- 4:01Speaker 5: me know that these sales are happening, I actually have
- 4:04Speaker 5: a little list in my phone of things I want
- 4:06Speaker 5: to purchase because it's no secret now that I'm having
- 4:08Speaker 5: a baby next year.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yes, they're so expensive, bet I know. So I've got
- 4:13Speaker 1: like this.
- 4:14Speaker 5: List of things that I know I need to purchase.
- 4:16Speaker 5: But my plan is to purchase them during the Black
- 4:18Speaker 5: Friday sales because I've heard on the grapevine that's like
- 4:21Speaker 5: the best discount I can get for the products I'm
- 4:23Speaker 5: looking for. So, like, I think we need to have
- 4:25Speaker 5: a bit of a plan going into it.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Okay, I did want to touch on the amount that
- 4:32Speaker 4: we spend. I want to know, like how much you
- 4:35Speaker 4: think we spend on average on Black Friday? Many many, many,
- 4:38Speaker 4: many many dollars, so many dollar rus So.
- 4:41Speaker 5: NAB did some research last year and the NAB transaction
- 4:44Speaker 5: data from last year's Black Friday showed the following beck,
- 4:47Speaker 5: I've got three dot points for you. Australia spent a
- 4:51Speaker 5: whopping seven point.
- 4:52Speaker 1: One billion dollars billion.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Nearly one billion dollar more than was predicted by the
- 4:58Speaker 5: Australian Retailers Associate. NAB says the biggest spend increase happened
- 5:04Speaker 5: in Victoria and Tasmania up twenty percent, followed by ACT
- 5:09Speaker 5: and WA up seventeen and twelve percent respectively. In fact,
- 5:14Speaker 5: the AARA says we get twenty five percent of our
- 5:18Speaker 5: Christmas shopping done and dusted, oh Black Friday.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Which that's smart people doing smart things.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the sounds are bad.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Christmas spending is expensive. Why do you think we're talking
- 5:27Speaker 1: about this now?
- 5:28Speaker 6: Huh oh smart, we're.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Smart, but we also want you to get your ducks
- 5:33Speaker 5: in a row and if you can save some money
- 5:34Speaker 5: going into arguably the most expensive period of the year,
- 5:38Speaker 5: Like I want you to have all the tips and
- 5:39Speaker 5: tricks and tools, so I guess you are empowered instead
- 5:43Speaker 5: of being disempowered during this period of time because like
- 5:45Speaker 5: so many of us regret spending. But if we have
- 5:48Speaker 5: a plan and you're spending on things that you arguably
- 5:51Speaker 5: had to anyway, is that not a money winback.
- 5:54Speaker 4: I'm just curious though, like, are these sales good or
- 5:57Speaker 4: is it just like the way it's marketed to us,
- 5:59Speaker 4: like we actually saving money? Or is it just the
- 6:02Speaker 4: way that like our brains work.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Why not? So the A Triple C. This is real
- 6:09Speaker 1: snaky beck.
- 6:10Speaker 6: Okay.
- 6:11Speaker 5: They say that some retailers increase prices for a short
- 6:14Speaker 5: period immediately before their sales periods in order to justify
- 6:19Speaker 5: their discount claims during the sales. Unacceptable, That's exactly. That
- 6:23Speaker 5: is not cool. That's why the A Triple C is
- 6:25Speaker 5: stepping in there. What's more is that Black Friday can
- 6:29Speaker 5: be very costly for the environment, which I think we
- 6:31Speaker 5: need to touch on as well. Yes, because according to
- 6:33Speaker 5: a study done by money dot co dot UK, black
- 6:37Speaker 5: Friday in the UK alone was expected to emit three
- 6:40Speaker 5: hundred and eighty six thousand, two hundred and forty three
- 6:44Speaker 5: tons of greenhouse gas emissions, which is the same weight
- 6:48Speaker 5: as three thousand, six hundred and seventy nine blue whales.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Oh that's a lot of whales.
- 6:53Speaker 6: That's a lot of whales.
- 6:56Speaker 5: So from my perspective, it is worth questioning what the
- 6:58Speaker 5: true cost of these sales because as much as we
- 7:01Speaker 5: can save some dollar us, especially on things we were
- 7:03Speaker 5: going to buy anyway, there's clearly a overspend happening, regardless
- 7:10Speaker 5: of whether you're kind of justifying it, Oh, it's for
- 7:12Speaker 5: Christmas or whatnot. Like we all know that you're not
- 7:14Speaker 5: just buying clothes and apparel for Christmas, you know, come
- 7:17Speaker 5: on to you. We can justify it so far, but like,
- 7:21Speaker 5: let's be reasonable too, yes, exactly.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Wow, are you actually making me question a lot of
- 7:26Speaker 4: my recent purchases, which is.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Probably sorry, no, it's probably good. But I think why
- 7:30Speaker 1: isn't your questioning the vape purchasers? Weird?
- 7:33Speaker 6: Oh look that's the one that I like too.
- 7:35Speaker 1: That's an investment, according to you, into shortening.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Your life anyway, move on exactly, which actually is going
- 7:40Speaker 4: to save money because you.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Know what, if you would like something to be reframed,
- 7:45Speaker 5: we're going to start a new segment on the show
- 7:47Speaker 5: called Reframed by Beck. She would take your shitty life
- 7:49Speaker 5: situation and make it look amazing.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Make it positive exactly. I think it's a really good
- 7:54Speaker 4: place to quickly ponder. Let's go on a quick break.
- 7:58Speaker 1: T you're gonna have a bait.
- 8:00Speaker 6: I'm gonna have a babe. We're gonna have a tea
- 8:02Speaker 6: god with so in sync.
- 8:03Speaker 1: No, we're not in sync. I'm not on that page back.
- 8:07Speaker 6: You're not gonna vape. That's true.
- 8:08Speaker 4: All right, let's have a quick break, and then once
- 8:10Speaker 4: we come back, we're gonna help you get the most
- 8:12Speaker 4: out of Black Friday deals without the regret.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Slagh.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Okay, we are back in black No, you didn't Friday.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Yeah I knew where that was going.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I just want everyone to know, everyone listening, that wasn't
- 8:27Speaker 4: my joke, our producer, No, do not try.
- 8:32Speaker 6: I would never say something so bad.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Yes you would.
- 8:35Speaker 6: I would actually.
- 8:36Speaker 4: But we are back, and we're talking about Black Friday,
- 8:38Speaker 4: and it can be very tempting to see a good
- 8:40Speaker 4: sale and throw cash into it immediately without thinking. So
- 8:44Speaker 4: how important is it to go into this period with
- 8:46Speaker 4: a plan.
- 8:47Speaker 5: I would say very important. I mean I am an
- 8:49Speaker 5: ex financial plan nerve. So if you ask me if
- 8:53Speaker 5: a plan is essential, and then I say no, it's
- 8:56Speaker 5: invalidating my entire career. So we're gonna go and say yes,
- 9:00Speaker 5: the plan is essential. But I have some stats and
- 9:02Speaker 5: facts to back up why I say that.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Let's go there.
- 9:05Speaker 5: So a self financial study recently showed that forty two
- 9:09Speaker 5: percent of people actually ended up regretting their Black Friday
- 9:12Speaker 5: sales purchases.
- 9:14Speaker 1: No surprise is there.
- 9:15Speaker 5: A lot of items on sale on Black Friday are
- 9:18Speaker 5: arguably unnecessary, unwanted, cheap goods made from poor quality, unsustainable materials,
- 9:24Speaker 5: and we can be duped into buying things that we
- 9:26Speaker 5: don't actually want because of urgency traps and fomo and
- 9:30Speaker 5: unethical practices from retailers. How many times on the show
- 9:33Speaker 5: Beck have I said put twenty four hours between you
- 9:36Speaker 5: and you're spending. Many times, many times no one listens.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's why we're still here.
- 9:42Speaker 5: But I think it's really important on Black Friday, especially
- 9:44Speaker 5: to remember that the sale will probably still be there tomorrow,
- 9:48Speaker 5: and if you are making a plan to purchase, then
- 9:51Speaker 5: you're putting more than twenty four hours between you and
- 9:53Speaker 5: your spending. So like, give a little bit of context here.
- 9:57Speaker 5: There are a few things that I really want from
- 9:59Speaker 5: a and say high end retailer, but like they're middle
- 10:03Speaker 5: Like they're a furniture company, and I know that they
- 10:05Speaker 5: usually have a thirty percent off sale during Black Friday,
- 10:09Speaker 5: and I want to purchase from them this little bookcase
- 10:11Speaker 5: they have and like a chest of draws for my nursery, right,
- 10:14Speaker 5: so I know that's what I want to purchase, and
- 10:17Speaker 5: going in, I'm already planning that I know where they're
- 10:20Speaker 5: going to go. I'm a psycho, so I have got
- 10:23Speaker 5: the masking tape out and put it on the floor
- 10:25Speaker 5: in the nursery just to make sure that it fits.
- 10:27Speaker 5: But it's one of those things where I've planned this
- 10:29Speaker 5: purchase so I will on Black Friday make a really
- 10:32Speaker 5: big purchase. But I've known for weeks that that's what
- 10:35Speaker 5: I want to do, and I want you to be
- 10:36Speaker 5: in the same position totally. I don't actually want you
- 10:39Speaker 5: and no shade to the Iconic. I'm obsessed with the Iconic,
- 10:42Speaker 5: but it's like going into Kmart, I cannot walk away
- 10:45Speaker 5: from that app with the one thing I went there for,
- 10:48Speaker 5: Like I have to go on to the Iconic and
- 10:50Speaker 5: then I put one thing in my bag and then
- 10:52Speaker 5: it's like, you might like this.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm like, how did you know?
- 10:54Speaker 6: How?
- 10:55Speaker 1: I need that too?
- 10:56Speaker 6: You know me so well, you know me so well.
- 10:58Speaker 5: I love you guys, and then I end up spending
- 11:00Speaker 5: so much more. We need to be really cautious of
- 11:04Speaker 5: that happening on the platforms that we already are comfortable
- 11:07Speaker 5: with that are gonna have even better sales because you
- 11:10Speaker 5: just know the Iconic is gonna have a sleigh sale
- 11:12Speaker 5: right totally.
- 11:13Speaker 1: This isn't sponsored. I just know what's gonna happen.
- 11:15Speaker 6: We just know we can always right, just know.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So I think it's really important to understand that.
- 11:21Speaker 5: But in combination with all of that, Commonwealth Bank card
- 11:25Speaker 5: data is showing that we are actually spending individually approximately
- 11:28Speaker 5: five hundred dollars each on Black Friday sales. So that's
- 11:32Speaker 5: five hundred bucks from my perspective, straight down the drain
- 11:35Speaker 5: for nearly half of all of us every single year.
- 11:38Speaker 5: So five hundred dollars that gets wasted when the cost
- 11:40Speaker 5: of living crisis is so high, I think is exorbitant.
- 11:44Speaker 5: So will I be making a five hundred dollar purchase
- 11:46Speaker 5: this Black Friday?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yes?
- 11:48Speaker 6: But the takeaway is yes, we will be spending wee.
- 11:51Speaker 5: No, But it's also really important to go okay, cool, Yes,
- 11:54Speaker 5: they collect all of this awesome data and say, oh,
- 11:57Speaker 5: I'm Black Friday back. We can see that people spend more.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Sure are those people spending more because they're like me
- 12:02Speaker 5: and they're priming these purchases and going, well, I'm not
- 12:05Speaker 5: going to buy it when I know in a couple
- 12:06Speaker 5: of weeks Black Friday is going to happen and I'm
- 12:08Speaker 5: going to get thirty percent off those goods that I
- 12:10Speaker 5: was going to buy anyway, in which case I'm happy
- 12:14Speaker 5: to be part of that number.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I don't mind.
- 12:16Speaker 5: But is it us spending five hundred dollars because it
- 12:19Speaker 5: was one am? I got another notification in my emails
- 12:22Speaker 5: when I was meant to be sleeping, but I was
- 12:23Speaker 5: scrolling TikTok, I clicked it, I went to the iconic
- 12:27Speaker 5: and went down a rabbit hole and now I have
- 12:28Speaker 5: a new wardrobe.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Is that what happened?
- 12:30Speaker 5: Or did I actually plan that purchase? So we need
- 12:32Speaker 5: to be really careful that we know the difference between
- 12:35Speaker 5: the two. And obviously there are some tips and tricks
- 12:38Speaker 5: to avoid that slippery slope.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Yes, absolutely great, advice fee. I'm just here trying my best,
- 12:43Speaker 4: you know, and your best is good enough. Sometimes my
- 12:46Speaker 4: best is not good enough, but today it will do. Personally,
- 12:50Speaker 4: I can't afford to just drop five hundred dollars or
- 12:53Speaker 4: some crappy sometimes not crappy.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Just most people can't just FYI like, it's not actually
- 12:57Speaker 5: normal to re I guess iterate this. I've said this
- 13:00Speaker 5: on the podcast before as well. The average Australian does
- 13:04Speaker 5: not have access to five hundred dollars in an emergency. Yes,
- 13:07Speaker 5: so the fact that we are then spending five hundred
- 13:10Speaker 5: dollars during Black Friday sales that we might not have,
- 13:13Speaker 5: especially when you're saying I can't afford to spend five
- 13:16Speaker 5: hundred bucks feet on just stuff that I didn't need,
- 13:19Speaker 5: well that makes sense because most Australians don't have access
- 13:23Speaker 5: to five hundred dollars in an emergency if they're like
- 13:25Speaker 5: car tires blue or something, so I just in a
- 13:28Speaker 5: cost of living crisis. It just blows my mind how
- 13:30Speaker 5: much we are spending. At the same time as being like, oh,
- 13:33Speaker 5: I kind of get it if you're like me and
- 13:35Speaker 5: you're planning your purchases, but that's why we need to
- 13:38Speaker 5: talk about it. Yeah, like it's not all bad. As
- 13:41Speaker 5: I said earlier, some of us are actually, like, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 5: knocking off what twenty five percent of our Christmas shopping
- 13:45Speaker 5: during this period. And that's to me quite smart because
- 13:49Speaker 5: you were going to spend that anyway.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Yes, So okay, how do we plan this? What does
- 13:53Speaker 6: that look like?
- 13:54Speaker 1: Okay?
- 13:54Speaker 5: So I have written down a list. I have like
- 13:57Speaker 5: maybe seven or eight dot points. As you guys know,
- 13:59Speaker 5: I love a dot point because we can be efficient
- 14:01Speaker 5: and quick and get the information in your ear.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Holes as soon as possible.
- 14:05Speaker 5: So first things first, I've written down make a list
- 14:07Speaker 5: of items that you want to purchase. If you're like me,
- 14:10Speaker 5: you have an album on your phone where you have
- 14:12Speaker 5: screenshop people's tiktoks of stuff that you want, Yes, play great.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Is there something you've been saving up for and you
- 14:18Speaker 5: can actually get for a cheaper price during this period
- 14:20Speaker 5: of time? Do you actually have a list of presents
- 14:23Speaker 5: that you want to buy and get during this time?
- 14:25Speaker 5: If you say no, but you do Christmas shopping, now
- 14:27Speaker 5: is the time to do a Christmas buying list. There's
- 14:30Speaker 5: a free Christmas shopping list on our website if you
- 14:32Speaker 5: want to go download it where it says, put down
- 14:34Speaker 5: all of your friends and family names, how much is
- 14:36Speaker 5: your budget, what are you purchasing for them?
- 14:38Speaker 1: How could that work?
- 14:39Speaker 5: And I think that that can really help you go wow, like, oh,
- 14:42Speaker 5: I allocated fifty bucks to each person, because in your
- 14:44Speaker 5: head that's not that much. And then when you see
- 14:47Speaker 5: it compounded and the list of names down the side
- 14:49Speaker 5: of the page and you go, that's now one thousand
- 14:51Speaker 5: dollars on Christmas, you might go back to the drawing
- 14:53Speaker 5: board and be like, do you know what We're going
- 14:54Speaker 5: to do some DIY. We're going to make Christmas cards
- 14:57Speaker 5: this year. And I think that that's really important because
- 15:00Speaker 5: it's November, right, Like, we want to be getting ahead
- 15:03Speaker 5: of the game. And you know, Jess and I you
- 15:06Speaker 5: guys know, Jess, we have some crafty little DIY Christmas
- 15:09Speaker 5: presents that you can make this year that I am
- 15:11Speaker 5: making this year that I think will work really well.
- 15:14Speaker 5: But I think we need to just be a little
- 15:16Speaker 5: bit more planned. Right again, we're in the middle of
- 15:18Speaker 5: a cost of living crisis. We should be caring about
- 15:21Speaker 5: what we're spending because at the end of the day,
- 15:23Speaker 5: every single dollar counts. The next we're going to do
- 15:26Speaker 5: our research. As I said before, they can be fake
- 15:29Speaker 5: price drops. So if there is an item that you
- 15:31Speaker 5: have in mind, start doing your research now and what
- 15:33Speaker 5: it's going to cost and what kind of deal you
- 15:35Speaker 5: could potentially get. This is my favorite. I'm going to
- 15:38Speaker 5: recommend a product, but it's like not sponsored. Sure, I
- 15:42Speaker 5: feel like on the podcast we recommend a lot of stuff.
- 15:45Speaker 5: None of it's sponsored unless I tell you it is.
- 15:47Speaker 5: My friends, I just like sharing. The next year is
- 15:50Speaker 5: we're going to unsubscribe from our emails. I'm really sorry.
- 15:53Speaker 5: As I said to you before, Iconic, I am deeply
- 15:55Speaker 5: in love with you, but I need you to stop
- 15:58Speaker 5: emailing me.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I really do.
- 16:01Speaker 5: It's not working because I will click the email, I
- 16:03Speaker 5: will go through. I do need to see what is
- 16:05Speaker 5: now on sale. They're too good, I do, right, I know.
- 16:08Speaker 5: But the company that I want to recommend is actually
- 16:11Speaker 5: just a website.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's called unrolled dot me.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Oh, and it is a website for decluttering your inbox
- 16:18Speaker 5: and it's so so easy. Basically, you can unsubscribe from
- 16:21Speaker 5: unwanted emails and keep the ones that you do want.
- 16:24Speaker 5: It's an app right that you like install, connect to
- 16:28Speaker 5: your emails and then it goes through and you just
- 16:30Speaker 5: tick boxes and it unsubscribes for you, so you don't
- 16:32Speaker 5: have to do it individually, like does.
- 16:34Speaker 1: It on a bulk?
- 16:35Speaker 6: So convenient.
- 16:36Speaker 5: It kind of like goes, hey, here are all the
- 16:38Speaker 5: marketing emails that we've identified. Do you want us to
- 16:40Speaker 5: unsubscribe from all of them? And then you untick the
- 16:42Speaker 5: ones you want to keep and then unsubscribe from the rest.
- 16:45Speaker 6: That is so convenient, kay right? I love that.
- 16:47Speaker 5: The next is consider quality purchases only, so making sure
- 16:52Speaker 5: that if you're gonna buy something is actually gonna last
- 16:54Speaker 5: back or is it just a cute top that you're
- 16:56Speaker 5: going to get one way out of and then it's going.
- 16:57Speaker 1: To fall apart? Right, not a sleigh?
- 16:59Speaker 5: No, ask yourself would you actually pay full price for this?
- 17:03Speaker 5: If the answer is no, I want you to rethink
- 17:06Speaker 5: your purchase before actually completing it, because if you wouldn't
- 17:09Speaker 5: pay full price, why are you buying in the first place.
- 17:11Speaker 6: That's a very good point, like if I.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Wouldn't spend the entire amount, I clearly don't like it
- 17:17Speaker 5: that much.
- 17:18Speaker 6: Yeah, you don't need it, you don't really want it? No, Yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 6: it's a really good point.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Again, put twenty four hours between you and your spending.
- 17:24Speaker 5: I couldn't say that enough. For people who are a
- 17:27Speaker 5: little bit impulsive, this really helps. Even if the sale
- 17:31Speaker 5: says it's sending in six hours, most of the time
- 17:33Speaker 5: they end up getting extended because do you know what
- 17:36Speaker 5: retailer is like.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Money coming in the doorback. Yes, so they're gonna be like, oh,
- 17:40Speaker 1: we've just extended this sale. What a surprise. We just
- 17:43Speaker 1: thought of this idea right now.
- 17:44Speaker 6: No one saw it coming, not even saw it.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Coming, not even us or our marketing strategy that we
- 17:48Speaker 5: put together twelve months ago for this, like they absolutely
- 17:51Speaker 5: knew what they were doing. Then check the quality of
- 17:54Speaker 5: like components and tech items. Often retailers will actually sell
- 17:58Speaker 5: similar models at a lower but minus the features and
- 18:01Speaker 5: the high quality components. So like, if you're buying a TV,
- 18:05Speaker 5: it might be Led versus the O LED, And if
- 18:08Speaker 5: you know anything about TVs, you know one of those
- 18:09Speaker 5: is better than the other.
- 18:10Speaker 1: And I can't remember which is which.
- 18:12Speaker 5: You would have to ask my husband. But that is
- 18:14Speaker 5: a rant that he has been on before.
- 18:15Speaker 6: I see, Yeah, he's ready.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a Steve tip. You welcome.
- 18:19Speaker 5: And the next this is going to be absolutely no
- 18:22Speaker 5: surprise to anybody.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Don't use after pay, don't like it's terrible idea.
- 18:27Speaker 6: That's right, it's terrible idea because it is.
- 18:29Speaker 5: A slippery slope. It is a slippery slope. And only
- 18:33Speaker 5: use after pay if you're like cash flowing it and
- 18:36Speaker 5: the money's already in your account and it's a fully
- 18:39Speaker 5: like planned out plan and it makes sense. But too
- 18:43Speaker 5: many people in our community have gone down that slippery slope,
- 18:46Speaker 5: found themselves in debt, and that has impacted them far
- 18:49Speaker 5: more than just getting a new pair of kicks.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Totally right. V.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Also, it feels so good when you make a one
- 18:54Speaker 4: off purchase. There is always like buyer's remorse if you
- 18:57Speaker 4: make a big purchase, but feels so much better knowing
- 19:00Speaker 4: that's done and dusted. I don't have to keep paying
- 19:01Speaker 4: for this thing over and over and over again.
- 19:03Speaker 6: That's it.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I think you've helped me save five hundred dollars.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Have I I think show where.
- 19:08Speaker 4: It is personally like Friday, it brings maybe like a
- 19:11Speaker 4: little bit of anxiety because I know myself. I know
- 19:13Speaker 4: I don't have any self regulation. That's what got me
- 19:15Speaker 4: into it in the first place. So it's good to
- 19:17Speaker 4: know it's a time of year where I know that,
- 19:19Speaker 4: like I'm going to have to avoid going out. But
- 19:22Speaker 4: it's also a bit exciting because, as you say, like,
- 19:24Speaker 4: if you do have a plan, if you make plan,
- 19:25Speaker 4: Ustmas is coming up, Like all of these things, there
- 19:27Speaker 4: are so many benefits to it. But for me, it's
- 19:30Speaker 4: just a little bit scary because I don't trust myself.
- 19:32Speaker 4: I would say, that's fair. How do you feel around
- 19:34Speaker 4: this time if.
- 19:34Speaker 5: I'm the same, Like at the end of the day,
- 19:36Speaker 5: I have shared with you guys that I am relatively
- 19:40Speaker 5: impulsive when it comes to purchases. It's why I don't
- 19:43Speaker 5: use platforms like I have to pay and you know
- 19:45Speaker 5: by now pay later platforms in general, because I just
- 19:48Speaker 5: know it wouldn't work for me. I have had a
- 19:50Speaker 5: credit card before, and I have abused a credit card before,
- 19:52Speaker 5: and I know I can't trust myself with one again.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yes, like it just makes sense.
- 19:56Speaker 5: So I kind of look at it and go, well,
- 19:58Speaker 5: I know myself enough to know that this is not
- 20:01Speaker 5: a good time of year.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Flip it over.
- 20:03Speaker 5: I think I've told you historically about my best friend
- 20:05Speaker 5: who like uses after pay, but she's like a genius
- 20:08Speaker 5: at it, right, She'll go onto the iconic. She'll use
- 20:11Speaker 5: after pay to order a heap of dresses so she
- 20:12Speaker 5: can try them on. She keeps the one she wants
- 20:14Speaker 5: and she sends the rest back and all of that
- 20:16Speaker 5: money didn't come out of her account, Like she's actually
- 20:19Speaker 5: a genius.
- 20:20Speaker 1: If I get a bit package of dresses, Beck, yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 1: they don't fit.
- 20:23Speaker 5: You know what happens. They get thrown in the corner
- 20:25Speaker 5: of my room until the returns period of time has expired,
- 20:28Speaker 5: and then I'm like, oh yeah, whoops. Yeah, but she's
- 20:32Speaker 5: just better at everything than I am. So if that
- 20:35Speaker 5: is you and you are a step of the world,
- 20:38Speaker 5: then go ahead use it that way that works for you.
- 20:41Speaker 5: But unfortunately that's not the reality of most of our community.
- 20:45Speaker 5: And I want to make sure that you know you
- 20:47Speaker 5: feel heard and you feel like you're not alone in
- 20:50Speaker 5: this because Beck, you're in the same position. You're like, oh,
- 20:53Speaker 5: I can't trust myself during this period of time. All right, Well,
- 20:56Speaker 5: let's not trust each other together.
- 20:57Speaker 1: What's a plan?
- 20:58Speaker 6: Yes, so true, And it's.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Going to be so much easier if I'm like, you
- 21:01Speaker 5: didn't buy anything, did you? And you go no, wan
- 21:03Speaker 5: to go Sleigh, Let's get coffee do you know what
- 21:05Speaker 5: I mean? We can actually support each other during this
- 21:08Speaker 5: period of time, but we can also use it to
- 21:10Speaker 5: our advantage if we have a plan. So if you
- 21:13Speaker 5: have some purchases that you need to make, if there
- 21:15Speaker 5: are things that are on your wish list or your
- 21:17Speaker 5: Christmas list or literally any list that you've got, will
- 21:20Speaker 5: maybe sit down now and be like, all right, I'm
- 21:22Speaker 5: just going to write out what I need, when I
- 21:24Speaker 5: might need it, by what that actually looks like. Because
- 21:27Speaker 5: if you can save thirty percent, that's a money win.
- 21:29Speaker 5: But it's not a money whin if you didn't need
- 21:31Speaker 5: to purchase it in the first place.
- 21:32Speaker 4: Exactly, you know, ev a penny saved is a penny earned.
- 21:36Speaker 4: So if you spend no money at all, I feel
- 21:38Speaker 4: like you've made that money.
- 21:39Speaker 1: I don't even need to be here anymore. You've got this.
- 21:41Speaker 5: All right, let's go, because I'm now salty that you're
- 21:44Speaker 5: smarter at money than I am.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Fair Enough, you should be a little bit scared.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I am terrified if that's the reality. But we will
- 21:50Speaker 1: see you guys on Friday. Have a beautiful week. Byes bye.
