SPEAKER_01: If you've got a big heart, this is the episode for you.
• 0:13
  SPEAKER_01: Listen up.
• 0:14
SPEAKER_01: I've got James in the house.
• 0:15
  SPEAKER_01: Hello, James.
• 0:16
  SPEAKER_00: Hello, huh?
• 0:17
SPEAKER_01: So, what are we going to talk about?
• 0:19
SPEAKER_00: Well, I've undertaken this project in the last month or so to raise money for Lake Taupo Hospice.
• 0:26
  SPEAKER_01: Wow, Lake Taupo Hospice.
• 0:28
SPEAKER_01: Give me the background story.
• 0:29
  SPEAKER_01: Why?
• 0:30
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so last year my mum got very sick and uh she was looked after amazingly by the lake hospice, Lake Taupo hospice people.
• 0:40
  SPEAKER_00: They're just incredible.
• 0:41
SPEAKER_00: And they make such a diffic difficult situation so much easier.
• 0:46
SPEAKER_00: I don't know how they do their jobs because they're dealing with people in terminal illnesses, you know, that haven't got much time to live all the time.
• 0:54
SPEAKER_00: But they were just, you know, fantastic.
• 0:57
SPEAKER_00: I I don't know what how the how they do it, but anyway, so my mum passed away on November 28th, and you know, I kind of lost my mojo a little bit for a little while after that, as you do.
• 1:10
SPEAKER_00: And and then I came to realise that I needed to do something a bit more you know, I'm doing lots of cool stuff.
• 1:18
SPEAKER_00: Lots of cool stuff in my life at the moment, but I needed something that a a bit for mean a bit more meaningful.
• 1:24
  SPEAKER_01: Impactful.
• 1:25
  SPEAKER_00: Mmm, that's right.
• 1:26
SPEAKER_00: So and I noticed dad had donated, I think it was a thousand dollars to Lake Taupo hospice after Mum passed, and they some of them even turned up to Mum's funeral.
• 1:37
  SPEAKER_00: Wow.
• 1:37
SPEAKER_00: It was it was incredible.
• 1:38
SPEAKER_00: So what I thought I would do is I'm going to do the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge, which is a hundred and sixty K bike ride or bike race, depending on what you look at.
• 1:50
SPEAKER_00: And I am going to do and I'm gonna raise money in the process for doing it.
• 1:56
SPEAKER_00: So what I'm gonna try and do is do my best ever time around Lake Taupo, and and then I'm gonna go out to all those people amongst my mum and dad's friends or whoever I know and try and raise money for Lake Talpo hospice in in the process.
• 2:11
SPEAKER_00: So what what's what what that's doing is it's made me incredibly motivated.
• 2:15
SPEAKER_00: Like I've started cycling again for the last three or four weeks, it's got me out there talking to lots of people, especially the people at hospice, and they've been very supportive, obviously.
• 2:26
SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna be setting up a fundraising page and stuff like that.
• 2:29
SPEAKER_00: And yeah, I'm just really excited about it.
• 2:32
SPEAKER_00: I mean, the challenge I have done it before, the Lake Taupo Top uh the Lake Taupo Challenge, and I've done it quite a few times.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_00: But in about 2022, mid-2022 or end of 2022, I got long COVID.
• 2:46
SPEAKER_00: So that's what makes it the challenge.
• 2:49
  SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
• 2:49
SPEAKER_00: So I know I can do it, but my goal is to make this money for Lake Taupo hospice, and I'm kind of trying to think of what it would be a good m amount of money.
• 2:58
  SPEAKER_00: So I'm thinking something like$10,000.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_00: I think that would be achievable.
• 3:04
SPEAKER_00: And but so it's but it's also ticking off other boxes for me.
• 3:08
SPEAKER_00: So in terms of it's making me be really healthy, like I've cut out the espresso the strong espresso coffee, I'm going to bed at nine, I don't drink out, I'm not um I've cut out alcohol and all these sorts of things.
• 3:21
SPEAKER_00: So life is just sugar.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to cut out sugar.
• 3:24
SPEAKER_01: So the big lolly jar in office does not help at the moment.
• 3:27
SPEAKER_00: No, you've noticed I haven't had any of them.
• 3:28
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 3:29
SPEAKER_00: I will I will sometimes we'll take them for a bike ride if you get really tired.
• 3:32
  SPEAKER_00: You pop a lolly.
• 3:33
  SPEAKER_01: Okay.
• 3:34
  SPEAKER_00: Pop a lolly.
• 3:35
  SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's not like it's a drug.
• 3:37
SPEAKER_00: But so the interesting thing that made me jump onto this is that uh mum passed away on November 28th.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_00: And November 28th is the exact same day of the Lake Town cycle challenge.
• 3:51
  SPEAKER_01: No way.
• 3:51
  SPEAKER_00: It is, yeah.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_01: So on the day that she passed away, the anniversary of her passing away this year is the day of the race challenge.
• 4:00
  SPEAKER_01: Yep.
• 4:00
SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, James, I got goosebumps right now.
• 4:02
  SPEAKER_00: I know, it's cool, it's really cool.
• 4:04
SPEAKER_00: So, and I'm just starting to get my social media going.
• 4:06
SPEAKER_00: As you guys know, I'm I'm a little bit older than everybody else.
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_01: So I'm a bit the youngest.
• 4:12
  SPEAKER_00: That's right, it's my hair.
• 4:14
SPEAKER_00: So I'm just starting to get that going.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_00: You know, I've put pictures, I've I've put a before picture of what I look like in my cycle gear on Facebook.
• 4:22
SPEAKER_00: It's not good, you know, liquor is not good on anybody, but especially if your cycling gear is not quite big enough for you.
• 4:28
SPEAKER_00: Um so I can see a whole lot of people rushing to see that.
• 4:34
  SPEAKER_00: Awkward silence.
• 4:36
SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, but yeah, it just all just you know, it all just came together and it makes sense.
• 4:40
SPEAKER_00: And it turns out the person that I'm working with at Lake Talpo Hospice actually was worked at the event for 10 years.
• 4:47
  SPEAKER_01: Wow.
• 4:48
SPEAKER_00: So I've got these amazing connections to to really do something cool.
• 4:53
  SPEAKER_00: Okay.
• 4:53
  SPEAKER_00: Um, so awesome.
• 4:55
SPEAKER_01: I'm excited to see where you get to.
• 4:57
  SPEAKER_01: $10,000.
• 4:58
  SPEAKER_01: That's an awesome challenge.
• 4:59
SPEAKER_01: Let's see if we can double that.
• 5:01
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:01
SPEAKER_01: You know me, Zibunito never settles.
• 5:03
  SPEAKER_00: I should have said$5,000.
• 5:06
SPEAKER_01: I think we I think we should be able to get you to a double or your mama.
• 5:10
  SPEAKER_00: All right.
• 5:10
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 5:10
  SPEAKER_00: That'd be cool.
• 5:11
  SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
• 5:12
SPEAKER_00: That would be really, really cool.
• 5:13
  SPEAKER_01: Thank you, James.
• 5:13
SPEAKER_01: For those that want to know more, please reach out.
• 5:16
SPEAKER_01: And once the page is up and running for fundraiser, we'll be sharing it left, right, and center.
• 5:20

SPEAKER_01: Thank you for listening in.
• 5:22
  SPEAKER_01: Bye.
