- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Do you feel that you drink too much wine?
- 0:42Or maybe it's another alcoholic drink and it's really having a
- 0:45negative effect on your life? Adam here.
- 0:49And I was working with a client that felt that their Achilles
- 0:53heel wasn't just alcohol, but it was wine in particular, because
- 0:57they would never drink too much beer or drink too many
- 0:59cocktails. But if it was wine, they
- 1:02couldn't open up a bottle without finishing the bottle.
- 1:04And there was an element of compulsion where they had the
- 1:07biggest impact in their life was in their home quite often
- 1:12because it would mean that they would wake up the next day and
- 1:15they would feel lethargic. They wouldn't have the same
- 1:17level of energy and they'd be quite annoyed or cross with
- 1:20themself. So in this hypnosis session, it
- 1:22uses 2 levels of disassociation, and it also has an element of
- 1:29introducing 3 golden rules about a relationship with wine that
- 1:34would be useful for this individual, and it may be useful
- 1:37for you too. These golden rules are #1 no
- 1:41drinking wine at home. Now that doesn't mean they can't
- 1:44drink other alcoholic drinks, but just not wine because wine
- 1:47was their Achilles heel. So no wine in the home.
- 1:51It could be that there is wine in the home, but just not drunk
- 1:53by them. If it was drunk by someone else,
- 1:56that would be fine, but no wine for them.
- 1:58The second is that if they do drink wine, they order it by the
- 2:03glass. That's crucial because their
- 2:05compulsion was if they open a bottle, they finish the bottle.
- 2:09And of course, if you're in a bar or a restaurant, you can
- 2:11order a bottle of wine. But by ordering by the glass, it
- 2:14means that they have the ability to just finish the glass rather
- 2:19than finish the bottle. And that was their pattern.
- 2:22So that's very helpful. So rule #2 is ordered by the
- 2:24glass. The smaller the glass the
- 2:26better. And then the third rule is
- 2:30always have a non alcoholic drink before an alcoholic drink.
- 2:34So therefore for this client, if they were going out and having
- 2:37two small glasses of wine, but each of those two small glasses
- 2:40needed a non alcoholic drink beforehand, then actually they
- 2:44can enjoy the whole evening with four glasses of something and
- 2:49not have any hangover and not have any downsides, wake up
- 2:52refreshed and energized the next day and still keep wine in their
- 2:55life. Many people don't want to be
- 2:59either a teetotaler and, you know, have completely no alcohol
- 3:04at all or to make it a forbidden fruit.
- 3:07And, you know, I'm saying this is someone that I've not drunk
- 3:10alcohol for nearly eight years. For me, that was the right
- 3:13decision, not to have any alcohol.
- 3:15But for other people, they want the kind of relationship with
- 3:18alcohol that I have with sugar and that is in moderation on
- 3:22special occasions. And then that way it's still in
- 3:24my life, but not too much. So if anything like this appeals
- 3:28to you might get some value from this session.
- 3:30Some of the references are going to be unique to the individual.
- 3:35Some of the things they wanted to replace wine with, like
- 3:38protein smoothies, might not appeal to you.
- 3:40So ignore any suggestions that aren't quite right.
- 3:43Hone into the ones that are. And if you do like the idea of
- 3:46having a bespoke session with me, tailored to your exact
- 3:50circumstances and your exact outcomes, there will be a link
- 3:53in the description where you can schedule a completely free
- 3:55consultation call to explore working with me.
- 3:58For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 4:01won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:29Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:38resourceful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 4:44And as you exhale, feel that wonderful feeling of release, as
- 4:53if any tension, worries, or stresses feel like they're
- 5:01leaving your body in your outward breath.
- 5:08As you breathe in and breathe out.
- 5:10I want you to find that rhythm, maybe that rhythm that you
- 5:17naturally get to when you're doing yoga or meditating.
- 5:24Activate your diaphragm so that the deeper you breathe, the more
- 5:30relaxed you feel. And the more relaxed you feel,
- 5:36the deeper you breathe, each breath taking you deeper and
- 5:47deeper. Relaxed that's in.
- 5:55Scan your body for any clues of tension.
- 5:59Sometimes it's there in the forehead or the jaw or the neck
- 6:03or the shoulders. But as you breathe in that
- 6:06relaxation, just imagine that tension melting away.
- 6:13Feel it leave your body in your outward breath and start to feel
- 6:19a looseness, A relaxation all around your face, neck,
- 6:24shoulders, going down into your arms.
- 6:28That's it. I don't want you to think.
- 6:34Think of a time where you were walking on a beach in southern
- 6:39Spain, and I want you to imagine maybe it was a time of day when
- 6:46there was no one else around. And I want you to feel that
- 6:50connection with the sound of the waves, perhaps the sand beneath
- 6:56your feet, sunshine on your skin.
- 7:02And I want you to feel that element, that element of
- 7:10alignment, connection, but deep inner peace.
- 7:19And I want you to imagine, imagine seeing a puzzle, a board
- 7:27game there on a table on the beach.
- 7:31Maybe it's one of those jigsaw puzzles with a 500 or 1000
- 7:35pieces. Now this puzzle, this puzzle is
- 7:42an image of you a year from now with the ideal relationship with
- 7:48alcohol. I don't want you to imagine on
- 7:52that beach sitting down and trying to figure out all of
- 7:59these separate pieces, to make that picture and allow the
- 8:05logical analytical that part of your brain likes to solve
- 8:11problems, to focus its attention on this jigsaw puzzle.
- 8:19But then separate yourself because there is an intuitive
- 8:24unconscious part that just wants change.
- 8:31And I want you to imagine observing that logical,
- 8:34analytical part. They're on that beach in Spain,
- 8:38trying to figure out the jigsaw puzzle.
- 8:41But the unconscious part continues to walk down the
- 8:44beach, separating conscious from unconscious, logical from
- 8:50intuitive. And as you continue walking down
- 8:54the beach, I want you to imagine seeing a door, Not just any
- 9:03door. I want you to imagine a palatial
- 9:07door, the kind of door that you would only find on a grand,
- 9:13stately home, but it isn't connected to a building, and yet
- 9:19the door is still there on the beach.
- 9:21And I want you to imagine standing in front of that door,
- 9:29looking back, seeing that logical part, still attempt to
- 9:32finish the puzzle, but now looking at this grand door.
- 9:38And very soon I will count from 5:00 to 1:00.
- 9:42As I count, you will imagine opening this big heavy door,
- 9:47walking through and finding yourself in the tranquil
- 9:53countryside of the Cotswolds near a lake.
- 9:58But for now, you're in front of the door 5 pulling the handles
- 10:04of this heavy door open, 4 making them wider. 3 seeing the
- 10:11Cotswolds beyond the threshold of the door 2 walking through
- 10:16the door and one hearing it close behind you as you now
- 10:22imagine what it would be like to be there in the Cotswolds near a
- 10:29lake. And I want you to imagine there,
- 10:36under blue skies, sunshine and a gentle breeze in that wonderful
- 10:43countryside near the lake is the most comfortable chair you've
- 10:47ever seen. I want you to imagine placing
- 10:53yourself on that chair, looking out over the lake and feeling a
- 11:00deep level of relaxation, a feeling of connection, a
- 11:09wonderful feeling that there is nothing you need to do.
- 11:13But your unconscious intuitive mind is open to new ideas, new
- 11:18ways of thinking. And as you sink into that chair,
- 11:24looking out over the lake, I want you to imagine the ability
- 11:30to create a three-dimensional hologram hovering over the lake.
- 11:37Because as your unconscious mind starts to receive suggestions, I
- 11:44want you to allow that creative, intuitive part to imagine what
- 11:51that would be like in your life. You could imagine yourself like
- 11:57you're someone else doing things differently.
- 12:02Like that hologram over the lake.
- 12:08That's it. As you sink into the chair, your
- 12:13unconscious mind becomes suggestible to useful
- 12:18suggestions that get to enhance the quality of your life.
- 12:24What wants was an Achilles heel then becomes evidence of growth,
- 12:32progress and your ability to lose that vulnerability of the
- 12:40past. As you look over the lake, I
- 12:46wonder if you could imagine how it would be if the idea of
- 12:51drinking wine at home simply doesn't appeal anymore, as if
- 13:00the home environment now feels reserved for other things.
- 13:10Other people can drink wine there, it's just not for you.
- 13:18Each time you think of wine at home, your mind starts thinking
- 13:27of a useful rule that can benefit you, a golden rule.
- 13:35No wine at home means more control, more freedom, and more
- 13:40clarity. I want you to imagine seeing
- 13:45that future there over the lake, what it would be like even if a
- 13:54bottle of wine is bought and put into the refridge, it gets taken
- 13:58out and put into a different room.
- 14:02Not because out of sight, out of mind, but because wine in the
- 14:07fridge would just clutter up space that could be used for
- 14:10other things. And then imagine yourself
- 14:15outside of the home. I want you to see yourself with
- 14:22the ideal relationship with wine.
- 14:27One or two glasses outside of the home, maybe in a bar and a
- 14:34restaurant, a dinner party, a special occasion.
- 14:39But outside of your home. And when you're out and you
- 14:45order wine, it's by the glass and it feels elegant, deliberate
- 14:52and complete. I want you to see that version
- 14:56of you that totally believes that one glass is enough, but
- 15:04also see in that future that even when you're outside of the
- 15:08home, you have another quirky rule that before any alcoholic
- 15:16drink, you will always have a non alcoholic drink.
- 15:24And maybe that's a glass of water, maybe some kind of fizzy
- 15:34drink, juice, perhaps even in certain circumstances a hot
- 15:42drink. But I want you to see that this
- 15:46relationship is empowering. You are not missing out.
- 15:53You are simply taming a tiger that first sip of a healthy
- 16:01drink, and maybe it's sparkling water, perhaps some kind of
- 16:11healthy substance that is full of nutrients or probiotics or
- 16:16something good, or maybe juice. I want you to see that future
- 16:24version of you still seems to enjoy just as much as you did
- 16:32with wine. You associate any drink in
- 16:38certain settings as relaxing, calming, or perhaps just useful
- 16:45to hydrate because you begin to associate hydration, clarity and
- 16:52freshness with the idea and the feeling of taking a break.
- 17:00You don't need wine to take a break.
- 17:06And imagine if your favorite wine glass becomes a symbol of
- 17:11calm and not indulgence. I want you to imagine filling
- 17:18that same wine glass with something non alcoholic,
- 17:25reaffirming a powerful identity. Someone who chooses health,
- 17:32balance and self respect. And sometimes that might be some
- 17:40kind of protein smoothie, perhaps sparkling water, or
- 17:48perhaps a drink that contains supplements or vitamins or
- 17:54something to help you relax. And you can enjoy the ritual of
- 18:01pouring, holding and sipping without needing it to be wine
- 18:08inside that glass. And what if the thought of a
- 18:17glass of wine is telling you how you want to feel rather than the
- 18:26substance that you need? If the thought of a glass of
- 18:30wine means that your body wants to relax the de stress to
- 18:38escape, then there are so many different ways that you can do
- 18:43that, and I wonder if you could find ways to relax naturally
- 18:55rather than needing a chemical combination that alcohol is.
- 19:04Maybe on those days when stress appears, your first instinct
- 19:09becomes to stretch, slow your breathing, or release tension.
- 19:16Maybe it's time spent doing a particular type of yoga, a place
- 19:23where you can get to a place of calm quickly, The gentle hold of
- 19:29a pose, the slow rhythm of breath.
- 19:34What if that becomes your new sanctuary, a safe space to
- 19:39unwind and even just 5 or 10 minutes of meditation can feel
- 19:50that stress can go away quickly and wine wasn't needed.
- 20:00Or when emotions are running high, see yourself reaching out
- 20:06to a friend or a family member. A supportive voice and feel
- 20:12relief through connection and discussion rather than
- 20:16consumption. As you are learning that
- 20:20relaxation is a skill, not a symptom from a substance, and
- 20:28your body begins to crave what truly nourishes it.
- 20:35Water, certain decaffeinated teas, fresh air and movement.
- 20:44Imagine where your mind feels clear, your morning's brighter,
- 20:51and I want you to see that future version of you with this
- 20:54new relationship with alcohol and golden rules about where and
- 21:00when you drink wine. That version of you springs out
- 21:05of bed in the morning, more energy looking cheaper, starting
- 21:12the day, right? And I want you to see that you
- 21:20will be tested. You will be tested when someone
- 21:26buys you a bottle of wine, a wine that you used to like, but
- 21:32your rule is you don't drink it in the home.
- 21:38Or maybe you'll be tested by your own emotions, genuine
- 21:42things that happen in life that make you feel anxious or
- 21:45stressed or overwhelmed. But I want you to see that
- 21:49future version of you looking forward to these tests because
- 21:56each time you are tested, that pressure testing ensures this
- 22:06new evolved identity becomes robust.
- 22:16See yourself in that future with that pride, empowerment, more
- 22:22discernment, and higher standards.
- 22:26Because for you, less is more, and it's the quality rather than
- 22:34the quantity that matter. Don't be surprised if you drink
- 22:40less wine yet enjoy it more. Because your relationship with
- 22:48wine is shifting and what once was routine can now feel
- 22:55unnecessary, outdated, just an echo of who you used to be.
- 23:06I want you to think of those 3 golden rules.
- 23:12No wine in the home. Not for you at least.
- 23:19And if you do have wine, you order by the glass outside of
- 23:25your home and rule #3 before any alcoholic drink, whether it's
- 23:36wine, a beer or a cocktail, always a non alcoholic drink
- 23:42first. And I don't know if it will take
- 23:49days or weeks for these rules to become unconscious, that they
- 24:00just become what you do and how you are, and you don't need to
- 24:04force them. But it's when those boundaries,
- 24:12those rules are tested, that's when they become truly strong.
- 24:18And even a set back is useful if it strengthens your boundaries,
- 24:26making them more robust the next time.
- 24:32Want you to imagine floating into that hologram over the
- 24:38lake, into the version of you that has the ideal relationship
- 24:43with alcohol that you want. Feel how that would feel like.
- 24:51Do not need or want to drink wine at home.
- 24:55Have the occasional class when you're out and about and always,
- 25:03always have a non alcoholic drink before an alcoholic drink.
- 25:09And I want you to feel that this isn't missing out.
- 25:12This is giving you more more energy, more pride, more
- 25:17clarity, more sense of self esteem.
- 25:24Float back to the chair and imagine walking away from the
- 25:28lake and seeing that huge door belonging to that stately home,
- 25:36this time taking you back to the beach.
- 25:40Imagine pulling the door open, walking through, closing it
- 25:43behind you, and finding yourself on a beach in southern Spain.
- 25:52And not too far away, you can see that logical, analytical
- 25:57version of you nearly completing a puzzle.
- 26:01Just one final piece. And that puzzle is a picture of
- 26:08you with the ideal relationship with alcohol.
- 26:15Maybe you see yourself smiling. Maybe you see yourself with more
- 26:19energy, more accomplished, more elegant, or more discerning.
- 26:25There is a clue in that image as to how this new relationship
- 26:31with alcohol enhances your life rather than reduces your
- 26:40enjoyment. And maybe it's what you're
- 26:45doing, where you are, how you're feeling, and each time you come
- 26:52back to this puzzle, the image will change.
- 26:56But in all cases, it will be you with your ideal relationship
- 27:03with alcohol that empowers the quality of your life without the
- 27:12downside. Step into that logical,
- 27:15analytical part So 2 become one. Stare into that image and know
- 27:23this is now where you're heading, so that all parts of
- 27:30your life feel great and what's already good becomes even
- 27:36better. And as you walk away from the
- 27:40puzzle, I want you to imagine floating all the way back to
- 27:45your present. Take a deep breath in through
- 27:49your nose and out through your nose.
- 27:55Wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate into
- 28:02the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 28:09awaken you. And you will awaken feeling a
- 28:13deep resolve to take the image of your future as a blueprint,
- 28:21to make tweaks and changes, set new boundaries for yourself so
- 28:32that within a short period of time, this conception becomes
- 28:38reality. Starting to count. 123 Waking up
- 28:44456. More alert. 7-8.
- 28:49Open your eyes. Open your eyes. 910.
- 28:52Wide awake, wide awake. Wide awake.
