- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yor
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the moneyodcast that makes
- 1:00Speaker 2: personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It's our favorite day
- 1:04Speaker 2: of the week because I get to get my team
- 1:06Speaker 2: together and celebrate you how incredible She's on the Money.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Community is just agreed. She's back as always. I'm going
- 1:13Speaker 2: to be sharing our favorite money wins of the week.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Miss becksay ed. She's here with a number of different
- 1:18Speaker 2: broke tips. She's broke, not just feeling broke. We'll be
- 1:25Speaker 2: helping to endser a money dilemma which this week is
- 1:28Speaker 2: all about not being fairly compensated at work and something
- 1:33Speaker 2: that you slid into our dms about what do you
- 1:36Speaker 2: do when you and your partner aren't aligned on your
- 1:38Speaker 2: joint goals. I feel like that would be so hard,
- 1:42Speaker 2: like you probably do. That's the end of the show.
- 1:45Speaker 2: At the end of the show, Well you know how
- 1:47Speaker 2: to sold fights communication. I thought you were going to
- 1:51Speaker 2: say fists.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Well you look at just.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Like you about to kick her out off.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Because I thought that Jess would say imvnication. Jess looks innocent,
- 2:09Speaker 2: but like she could. She honestly is often on the
- 2:12Speaker 2: verge of throwing hands through and through before we get
- 2:17Speaker 2: to all of that, though, Guys, how were your weeks?
- 2:20Speaker 2: I'm hoping none of you threw hands?
- 2:23Speaker 4: You go first, because I feel like you did throw
- 2:24Speaker 4: hands at least three times now that I can do it.
- 2:27Speaker 2: No, I didn't.
- 2:29Speaker 5: Good Happy Valentine's Day.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Love it. I haven't done anything.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Oh no, that's a total lie. We had a photo
- 2:36Speaker 5: shoot yesterday.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Anything.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I'm like, I have literally had the biggest week, But
- 2:41Speaker 2: I don't know where you were. We it was such
- 2:44Speaker 2: a fun day.
- 2:45Speaker 5: We got lots of content, lots of fun videos.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We hired that house back down on the morning to
- 2:50Speaker 2: Peninsula that we hired when I first did like our
- 2:53Speaker 2: investing master class, so we're like, did our investing master class?
- 2:57Speaker 2: Wanted like beautiful sets, and one of the most cost
- 2:59Speaker 2: effective ways to do that was to hire out an
- 3:02Speaker 2: airbnb essentially that we were allowed to film in so
- 3:06Speaker 2: that we didn't have to hire like a production studio,
- 3:09Speaker 2: which is really expensive. But then also our team all
- 3:12Speaker 2: across the country and when we come together to do
- 3:15Speaker 2: content weeks or content days, they need accommodation. So I
- 3:19Speaker 2: said to the girls, what if we hired a really big,
- 3:22Speaker 2: fancy house that's so clever. You all get a bedroom.
- 3:25Speaker 2: All the bedrooms have on sweets, so you've got your
- 3:27Speaker 2: own rooms and stuff. But we have this big girl
- 3:30Speaker 2: house for a week, and it's just it is so
- 3:33Speaker 2: much fun, like getting to produce content and have everybody
- 3:37Speaker 2: in one place at one time. Like, it's just it's
- 3:39Speaker 2: a very good week for me. I was wondering, No,
- 3:43Speaker 2: it was not mine, absolutely not. It is currently for
- 3:48Speaker 2: sale though Beck and Jess our money. If we pull
- 3:52Speaker 2: our money, we still don't have enough for the deposit. Yes,
- 3:55Speaker 2: it goes.
- 3:56Speaker 5: The house, am I actually don't think I want to know.
- 4:00Speaker 2: From seven mil whoa, that's so many.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Dollaries, seven three hundred fifty thousand, literally, like you could
- 4:09Speaker 4: buy a whole house for the Yeah.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That's that.
- 4:11Speaker 4: That's what I say for a little apartment.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Crazy, it's crazy, Yes, it must be. We won't be
- 4:17Speaker 2: doing that, but it's nice to borrow for a week. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:21Speaker 2: it was very nice. Thank you for letting us borrow
- 4:24Speaker 2: your house. Like, how was your week?
- 4:26Speaker 4: Really good? Really cute? You know, I just I really
- 4:31Speaker 4: like that I know that I'm in a relationship, but
- 4:33Speaker 4: I also I really love my friends. My friends are
- 4:36Speaker 4: the loves of my life, and so it's a very
- 4:38Speaker 4: big like you know, I want to I want to
- 4:40Speaker 4: celebrate Gallantine's Day and Guylanine's Day, Gylentine's Day, and they
- 4:47Speaker 4: as well. So it's a big week of.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I think you would just say Balentine, well, I guess
- 4:57Speaker 2: I like how you were trying to be super political
- 4:59Speaker 2: and like, yeah, want to correct and that include everyone.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Valentine's would actually just meet the brief.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Turns out actually that there's a word.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It's good. It's good. You just wanted to share big love.
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and obviously The photo shoot was so much fun.
- 5:13Speaker 4: I've never felt so like fancy, you know what I mean.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Standing in a seven million dollar home does up the
- 5:20Speaker 2: antique does something to you in your bones. The confidence
- 5:25Speaker 2: I feel like gross because you're like, the photos can't
- 5:28Speaker 2: look that bad because look around. Yeah, yeah, people are
- 5:31Speaker 2: going to be looking at me. They're going to be
- 5:32Speaker 2: perving at what that mirror costs.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Or yeah, and I think you can polish it herd
- 5:37Speaker 4: if you're in a seven million dollar half.
- 5:39Speaker 2: I think the thing that Jess and I loved most
- 5:41Speaker 2: about the house is like we're pervy, right, so like
- 5:45Speaker 2: everyone does this, Like, let's be honest, you're at an
- 5:47Speaker 2: air banba. I'm opening the cupboards, I'm looking in the drawers.
- 5:50Speaker 4: I'm looking at those tees y as individual.
- 5:53Speaker 2: The individual packs of the tees they had. Jess and
- 5:55Speaker 2: I go around and we look at the home. Wh
- 5:57Speaker 2: we love a homework. Jess and I target kmart Eh
- 6:03Speaker 2: and m so many of those things that I was like,
- 6:05Speaker 2: oh my gosh, this bookshelf is probably going to be
- 6:07Speaker 2: covered in like such expensive coment.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Wasn't they really could exercise in Things don't have to
- 6:12Speaker 5: be expensive to look I mean like granted, obviously you
- 6:14Speaker 5: have the backdrop of the seven million at a home.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Which and when we googled the dining table because we
- 6:19Speaker 2: were like, oh, this dining table is stunning. It's fifteen
- 6:23Speaker 2: thousand dollars. Yeah, couldn't be.
- 6:25Speaker 5: But it was very cool to see that they did
- 6:26Speaker 5: have a lot of beautiful accessories that were from kmartin target.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like they really did the high low. But
- 6:32Speaker 2: I mean, maybe I'll get them in my house while
- 6:34Speaker 2: looks seven million dollars.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Is that how?
- 6:37Speaker 4: Yes? Yeah?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Good? My new Kmart cushions make my house look like
- 6:41Speaker 2: the seven million dollar house exactly.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Yep, that's exactly it works.
- 6:44Speaker 2: It's not even half, not even a quarter like wild Anyway,
- 6:48Speaker 2: this week has been really fun. But I was wondering,
- 6:51Speaker 2: do you want to hear one of our five style reviews?
- 6:53Speaker 6: Yes?
- 6:53Speaker 7: Please?
- 6:54Speaker 2: This one was really cute. So this one is from Jackie.
- 6:57Speaker 2: She says, empowering like many others, has literally changed my
- 7:02Speaker 2: perspective and my behavior towards money for the best. I've
- 7:06Speaker 2: just made my first investment with an ETF and I'm
- 7:09Speaker 2: so happy. I love the dynamics between the hosts and
- 7:12Speaker 2: find the podcast overall to be a positive and educational space.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Thank you and cute Jackie.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Yes, and congratulations on your first ETF purchase and.
- 7:23Speaker 2: She's an investor. And also like the fact that you
- 7:26Speaker 2: took the time out of your day to just leave
- 7:28Speaker 2: something positive on the internet. That's goo to thank you.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I adore it all right. Speaking of positive our Facebook
- 7:35Speaker 2: community is one of my favorite places to hang out
- 7:38Speaker 2: on the Internet. It's just grichie. Yes, what money wins
- 7:41Speaker 2: and confessions are you bringing to the table this week?
- 7:43Speaker 5: Well, when I start off with a follow up from
- 7:45Speaker 5: a couple of weeks ago, you might remember I read
- 7:47Speaker 5: a money win from someone about Planet Fitness. Oh yaid
- 7:50Speaker 5: oh they're not Australian. How annoying they are. I said,
- 7:53Speaker 5: I'd go away do some research. We had some queens
- 7:55Speaker 5: slide into our dms to confirm that Planet Fitness is
- 7:57Speaker 5: in fact a thing here.
- 7:58Speaker 7: I like this.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Podcasts actually a two way conversation, Yes slightly. I feel
- 8:02Speaker 2: like a lot of podcasts are just like you hear
- 8:05Speaker 2: the content, you leave it, No, no, no, the dms
- 8:07Speaker 2: are open if we say something on here that's actually
- 8:09Speaker 2: open conversations. I love that you listened to this but
- 8:13Speaker 2: I actually want your opinion. And when they jump into
- 8:16Speaker 2: the DMS and they're like, oh, you know how you're
- 8:17Speaker 2: talking about planet fields are you kidding? That's great? This
- 8:20Speaker 2: is just a long limited, once a week, I believe.
- 8:25Speaker 5: But Alicia also slid into our DMS and said, apparently
- 8:28Speaker 5: in the Newcastle area, Planet Fitness has changed the name
- 8:31Speaker 5: to Earth, but they have the same amenities, so maybe
- 8:34Speaker 5: look out for few rh like the cafe you are yeah, Earth,
- 8:39Speaker 5: but to refresh people's memory, so you pay the ten
- 8:41Speaker 5: dollar I think it's ten dollars a week. Is they're
- 8:43Speaker 5: more expensive?
- 8:44Speaker 4: This sounds like that.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I promise ten dollars a week is the gym. The
- 8:47Speaker 2: more they want to give us free memberships to like
- 8:50Speaker 2: unlimited spray, it's like I want to test out once
- 8:53Speaker 2: a week's bread okay, okay, okay, I guess we had
- 8:57Speaker 2: it every single day, Jess, how many times do you
- 9:01Speaker 2: need a spray? Tann in a well. This is what
- 9:02Speaker 2: I was thinking because I was kind of running the
- 9:04Speaker 2: math in my head because it's once a week. I
- 9:06Speaker 2: just need a ten once a week.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Totally, it's about five, so it's not about it is
- 9:11Speaker 5: five dollars a week for their cheaper version, but that
- 9:12Speaker 5: doesn't cover the extra enemities. So it's ten dollars a
- 9:14Speaker 5: week for the more expensive they call it Black Card,
- 9:17Speaker 5: and that includes your once a week spray tan, use
- 9:19Speaker 5: of the hydro massage, use of the Red Life therapy boots,
- 9:22Speaker 5: use of the massage.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Chess Is that usd.
- 9:27Speaker 5: The more expensive and crazy? And the thing I was
- 9:31Speaker 5: thinking is I'm no longer like a regular tanning girly.
- 9:33Speaker 5: But back in the day when I was doing my
- 9:35Speaker 5: weekly tan you'd use about a bottle a month, right,
- 9:38Speaker 5: And if you get like an Isle of Paradise or
- 9:40Speaker 5: a Santropez that's about forty bucks a bottle. So for
- 9:42Speaker 5: the same price that you were spending on tanning, you
- 9:44Speaker 5: could just do the spray can and then you've got
- 9:46Speaker 5: a due membership for free. In my mind, ye see,
- 9:48Speaker 5: if I've gotten back into tanning, I've done the opposite.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I feel like on social media there's like an uprising
- 9:53Speaker 5: in influencers who are like, I'm not turning anymore, I'm
- 9:56Speaker 5: embracing my pale skin, and I love that for them,
- 9:59Speaker 5: but right now I don't feel that comfortable in my skin,
- 10:03Speaker 5: and the like I'm sorry you can't deny it. When
- 10:07Speaker 5: your body is covered in a coat of spray ten,
- 10:11Speaker 5: my confidence increases.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I'm sorry. It does something to my ego and at
- 10:17Speaker 2: the moment, I need that. Yeah. So I'm just going
- 10:20Speaker 2: to roll in ten every week and it's nobody else's business.
- 10:24Speaker 2: I'm feeling much better about my body. Thank you for asking, as.
- 10:28Speaker 4: You deserve to be.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Planet Fitness was also the one. I think I read
- 10:30Speaker 5: this in the money in where you can bring a guest.
- 10:32Speaker 5: Actually this was your bread tip. You can bring a
- 10:34Speaker 5: guest in staffed hours, so it's quite yeah, economical, I
- 10:37Speaker 5: feel as well.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So I don't know.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I've never been to a Planet Fitness, so I can
- 10:40Speaker 5: neither confirm or deny it. But I was thinking maybe
- 10:42Speaker 5: I should just pay ten bucks one where you can
- 10:44Speaker 5: go test the spray tan out.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And there's one in Geelong, so it's not weird, yeah
- 10:49Speaker 2: Geelong or long close to you.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, there are a few others. That was just
- 10:54Speaker 5: the closest one to me anyway.
- 10:55Speaker 4: We can one's called Planet Fitness, or that one's called
- 10:58Speaker 4: Earth these.
- 10:58Speaker 5: Are that's Planet Fitness, Okay, God genus website anyway, enough
- 11:01Speaker 5: about them, But I just wanted to follow.
- 11:03Speaker 2: What else I feel like, I feel like it's a
- 11:05Speaker 2: good conversation to have.
- 11:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I just thought the girlies might like to know.
- 11:09Speaker 2: We followed up. We did ADDUI And because it's a
- 11:11Speaker 2: two way conversation, can you girls tell me what is
- 11:14Speaker 2: the best fake ten that I can do at home? Like,
- 11:16Speaker 2: I don't want to go get us pray ten every
- 11:18Speaker 2: week like I know some people do that. That's just
- 11:20Speaker 2: not my journey. That is an admin nightmare. I need
- 11:23Speaker 2: something that I can put on at ten pm, Like
- 11:26Speaker 2: that's that's the vibe, that's the goal. Tell me what
- 11:29Speaker 2: the best at home, like moose ten I think is
- 11:33Speaker 2: for me. Yeah, the one that I can put on?
- 11:36Speaker 2: What is the most like for you? Non fail? You
- 11:40Speaker 2: have one that's weird?
- 11:42Speaker 4: I sometimes they were faked what this is? Sometimes it
- 11:50Speaker 4: was in the winter. Sometimes I just just for a
- 11:52Speaker 4: little bit more orange because I don't I kind of
- 11:54Speaker 4: go a bit gray in the winter. Oh yeah, weird.
- 11:57Speaker 2: So what are you putting on? What it's called?
- 11:59Speaker 4: It like a little bottle and it's you shake it
- 12:02Speaker 4: and you it's foamy. It's like moosey. Yeah, foamy everything.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Under the sun. Let's take this off list. Okay, and
- 12:12Speaker 2: you can tell me which one you recommend, but I
- 12:15Speaker 2: just need to know because like they aren't cheap anymore.
- 12:17Speaker 2: And that's fine, but like I don't want to spend
- 12:21Speaker 2: seventy dollars or sixty dollars or forty dollars on a
- 12:25Speaker 2: bottle of fake tan that then makes me look orange.
- 12:29Speaker 5: Totally fair.
- 12:30Speaker 2: I paid my jues in high school with my orange tan.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I don't need to relive that in my thirties.
- 12:35Speaker 5: Yah, alright he Next, I've got money in from Jordan,
- 12:38Speaker 5: who said she used the online chat to price beat
- 12:41Speaker 5: via Bunnings, so she got an extra ten percent off
- 12:44Speaker 5: the best price you could find for a carpet cleaner
- 12:46Speaker 5: that Amazon had on sale. She ended up saving herself
- 12:49Speaker 5: seventy bucks and she picked it up an hour later. Oh, okay,
- 12:53Speaker 5: don't forget about the online price beat and you can
- 12:54Speaker 5: do it the chatbots if you don't like talking to people.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes it does feel like awkward when you're like, hey, so,
- 13:01Speaker 2: oh can you see the online like this is actually
- 13:04Speaker 2: cheaper in this other store? Can you price beat it?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Or I could never I do? I absolutely regrets. Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Jb Hi Fire hates to see me coming. Yeah, I
- 13:13Speaker 2: love a jb unlucky unlucky because I'll just get it
- 13:16Speaker 2: up on my phone.
- 13:16Speaker 4: And be like.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Next, I've got money in from Tess, who said she'd
- 13:21Speaker 5: been eyeing the Aora ring for ages but couldn't bring
- 13:24Speaker 5: herself to splurge. Then out of nowhere, she won one
- 13:27Speaker 5: at her gym.
- 13:28Speaker 2: What which is crazy?
- 13:29Speaker 5: And I thought this was a good spot to quickly
- 13:31Speaker 5: interject because you and I both got these for Christmas.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yes, and we did, and they're so expensive.
- 13:36Speaker 5: So expensive, and I love mine, but I will say
- 13:39Speaker 5: I wish someone had told me this. Mine looks like
- 13:41Speaker 5: shit now and I've had it for maybe a month.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Like I don't even want to talk about it, Jessica,
- 13:46Speaker 2: I text you a pho show. Yeah, so my husband
- 13:50Speaker 2: bought me my Ara ring for Christmas because and do
- 13:53Speaker 2: you know what, I will put the link to this
- 13:55Speaker 2: in the show notes of this episode. I purchased an
- 14:00Speaker 2: Alley Express, which is like direct from China kind of website.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It's legit, It's okay. I purchased a dupe Aora ring.
- 14:09Speaker 2: So for those of you following along at home, an
- 14:11Speaker 2: Ora ring is like it's like it's got the functionality
- 14:15Speaker 2: or a lot of the functionality of an Apple Watch.
- 14:17Speaker 2: So it's a health tracker. So in my Ura ring,
- 14:21Speaker 2: I can track my steps and my heart rate and
- 14:25Speaker 2: my sleep and it's been really helpful. And I purchased
- 14:28Speaker 2: it because I used to have an Apple Watch, and
- 14:31Speaker 2: then I didn't like looking like a spy kid, so
- 14:33Speaker 2: I stopped wearing it. But I did still want to
- 14:36Speaker 2: track my health, right, but I couldn't commit to the
- 14:39Speaker 2: Aura ring price because by the time you buy it
- 14:43Speaker 2: a USD currency conversion, it's about seven hundred and fifty dollars,
- 14:48Speaker 2: so it is a very expensive purchase. And when I
- 14:51Speaker 2: look at the ring online and in like all of
- 14:53Speaker 2: the TikTok videos, I looked at it's quite a chunky
- 14:55Speaker 2: ring too, and like, I'm not a chunky jewelry kind
- 14:58Speaker 2: of gal, so I wasn't even sure if it would
- 15:00Speaker 2: be comfortable to wear. So I ended up buying and
- 15:04Speaker 2: like researching, surely it's been duped, like the world is
- 15:08Speaker 2: very savvy nowadays. Found it perfect depends on whether you've
- 15:12Speaker 2: used Ali Express or not before, but it will cost
- 15:14Speaker 2: you anywhere between like seventeen and twenty seven dollars for
- 15:18Speaker 2: the basically the same thing. The only thing it doesn't
- 15:21Speaker 2: do beck is your temperature. So a lot of people
- 15:24Speaker 2: and one of the reasons why my husband then decided
- 15:27Speaker 2: to purchase the real quote orring for me was I
- 15:31Speaker 2: was in love and still I'm in love with my dupe,
- 15:33Speaker 2: my cheap one. Jess Jess had to the cheap one
- 15:36Speaker 2: as well. Looks the same. Yeah, it looks great, looks identical,
- 15:40Speaker 2: and sadly wears the same. In fact, I think was
- 15:44Speaker 2: it like Christmas Day or the day after Christmas. Jess
- 15:46Speaker 2: and I were texting, We were like, whoa, we both
- 15:49Speaker 2: got orderings, were so excited about it, and then I said,
- 15:52Speaker 2: this is really exciting, but low key. Did you expect
- 15:54Speaker 2: when you like opened the box and held your orring
- 15:57Speaker 2: that it would feel like better quality? And Jess was like,
- 16:01Speaker 2: oh my god, yes, because it didn't feel like like
- 16:05Speaker 2: better quality than the dupe, like the dupe actually it's
- 16:08Speaker 2: the same. In fact, I would say at this point
- 16:11Speaker 2: my dupe is in better condition than my aura ring
- 16:14Speaker 2: because my aura ring has completely changed color.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I see.
- 16:18Speaker 7: Yes.
- 16:18Speaker 5: I just want to say heads up for anyone who's
- 16:20Speaker 5: thinking about it, is mine is just so scratch scratched.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Typically we're on my non dominant hand, which is what
- 16:25Speaker 5: they recommend I take it off if I'm doing like
- 16:27Speaker 5: I don't, you know, pick up weights or do dishes
- 16:30Speaker 5: with it on, Like I try and.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Look after it.
- 16:32Speaker 5: But even so I've had it for like a month
- 16:34Speaker 5: at it looks trashed, which I just thought the chance
- 16:37Speaker 5: for was to let people know that because if you're
- 16:38Speaker 5: spending I was shocked at truly spending so much money.
- 16:41Speaker 5: So much money, I thought it would last longer, so
- 16:44Speaker 5: you to do it, And I mean, it probably is
- 16:45Speaker 5: going to last, but it just doesn't. It doesn't look
- 16:48Speaker 5: as nice as it could. And I think that that's
- 16:52Speaker 5: it's an important consideration. And like Jess and I think
- 16:55Speaker 5: we're on the same page here.
- 16:56Speaker 2: We upgraded to the Aura, and like that was something
- 16:58Speaker 2: that I was like, oh my god, if I could
- 16:59Speaker 2: get that for Christmas, like that would be elite. I
- 17:02Speaker 2: really wanted to track my temperature because of fertility. Okay,
- 17:06Speaker 2: so you can use it, Yeah, you can use it
- 17:08Speaker 2: to track your period and use it as in my
- 17:11Speaker 2: case at some point I want to get pregnant again,
- 17:13Speaker 2: and like that's a really helpful tool to have. But
- 17:16Speaker 2: if you don't care about that stuff. I can't see like,
- 17:19Speaker 2: and the analytics are obviously deeper on aura, but like, honestly,
- 17:24Speaker 2: the Duke, you know when you just like, is it
- 17:26Speaker 2: worth It depends on where your values are at, really,
- 17:29Speaker 2: but like try the Duke first and then maybe upgrade
- 17:33Speaker 2: if you're like, oh I do love this or whatever.
- 17:35Speaker 4: It just feels like such a war that sucks that
- 17:39Speaker 4: you're like, it's.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Even more exciting if you're testing. You win one for free.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Oh my god, gym to give away.
- 17:46Speaker 4: It's a great pres Wow.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money in from Color, who said
- 17:51Speaker 5: she's returned back to work after taking some time off
- 17:54Speaker 5: for her cancer treatment. She's managed to pay all of
- 17:56Speaker 5: her beginning of the year bills with her very first paycheck,
- 17:59Speaker 5: which is a massive win for her because obviously things
- 18:01Speaker 5: are getting a bit stressful with not working.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Just like, Carl, I hope you're doing well where yes,
- 18:08Speaker 2: can you update us, like, are you're okay? I know
- 18:11Speaker 2: that you had your treatment and you're back at work,
- 18:13Speaker 2: but like you're doing right? Yeah, looking after you and
- 18:17Speaker 2: making sure one hundred percent. And then also side note,
- 18:20Speaker 2: sorry financial advisor comes out in my brain. I don't
- 18:23Speaker 2: know if you have any insurances inside your superannuation. But
- 18:26Speaker 2: if you do have like inside your super couple of insurances,
- 18:30Speaker 2: check if you were able to claim on them. So
- 18:32Speaker 2: I think a lot of people have this misconception when
- 18:34Speaker 2: it comes to like life and income protection and stuff,
- 18:37Speaker 2: that you can't claim on it unless you die, and
- 18:41Speaker 2: you might actually be able to do what's called a
- 18:43Speaker 2: partial draw down, which is where you can claim on
- 18:45Speaker 2: your insurance for having a significant health event. So like check,
- 18:50Speaker 2: just check, and it might be no, and then like, Okay,
- 18:52Speaker 2: no worries. You haven't missed out on anything, but you
- 18:55Speaker 2: might be missing out on some cash if you haven't checked.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So sorry, financial advisor comes out.
- 19:02Speaker 5: I'm sorry. Next, Tiven money went from Emily, who said
- 19:05Speaker 5: her husband went to Vinnie's and she got a pair
- 19:07Speaker 5: of brand new ugs that were priced at fifteen bucks.
- 19:10Speaker 5: What they had ten dollars on their loyalty card, so
- 19:13Speaker 5: he got them for five dollars.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Than Kmart's, and Kmart's ones aren't even like real. Shirling, Yeah, shurling, shurling,
- 19:21Speaker 2: that's crazy. That's like the sheep skin word.
- 19:25Speaker 7: That's what that is.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Shirley, that's cooler. You know that yeah, thanks essentially girl.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Oh she used to wear track pants, ugg boots and
- 19:33Speaker 2: a singlet.
- 19:35Speaker 5: And then lastly this week I'm gonna money been from
- 19:37Speaker 5: Ashley who said money win seven dollars a kilo for
- 19:40Speaker 5: Cherry Hill cherries at Colds. Oh that's a gorgeous I
- 19:43Speaker 5: will be stopping at Colds on my way home.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I love cherries. Do you know what I really want
- 19:48Speaker 2: to make?
- 19:48Speaker 4: Side?
- 19:48Speaker 2: Though I've never had cherry pie? Oh I love that song. Yeah,
- 19:53Speaker 2: but like I want to try cherry pie. So I
- 19:55Speaker 2: feel like I'm going to get some cherries that make
- 19:57Speaker 2: like a from scratch.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Yeah. Well today I feel like it's the day for it.
- 20:02Speaker 7: Something.
- 20:02Speaker 4: There's something sexy about cherry pie.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I like it all right, Beck, I need
- 20:06Speaker 2: to know what are your broke tips for people who
- 20:09Speaker 2: are actually broke?
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yes, makes you feel broken?
- 20:12Speaker 2: I feel like crazy?
- 20:14Speaker 4: I must I must be missing a reference.
- 20:15Speaker 2: You are missing a massive reference. I'll fill you in
- 20:18Speaker 2: after the Yeah. Because there's a difference, Beck, I don't
- 20:22Speaker 2: know if you know this, but there is actually a
- 20:23Speaker 2: massive difference between feeling broke and actually being broke.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Right, And like if people say they're broke online but
- 20:33Speaker 2: they're not. They just feel broke a little bit offensive.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Oh who are actually broke?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:39Speaker 4: It's like I get it, I get that feeling, but
- 20:42Speaker 4: also it's not fully the same. I think maybe poor
- 20:46Speaker 4: and broke because it is if you like, have your
- 20:48Speaker 4: have your savings and you are fine, you're asking, but
- 20:51Speaker 4: if you've got savings, you're not broke, you're not broke,
- 20:53Speaker 4: but you're still like, oh, I'm I'm have some extra
- 20:56Speaker 4: cash to spend probably the way and you've spoken about
- 20:59Speaker 4: this before, Oh yeah, as somebody who you know has
- 21:02Speaker 4: very openly and we are very grateful for your generosity
- 21:05Speaker 4: in terms of you being so open. But you're like,
- 21:08Speaker 4: it does make me feel like trash when someone's talking
- 21:10Speaker 4: about like, oh, I'm so broke when you literally are,
- 21:13Speaker 4: but you know they have savings. Like it does scare me,
- 21:16Speaker 4: you know, when like someone's like scared about something and
- 21:18Speaker 4: you're like, oh my god, I feel exactly the same
- 21:20Speaker 4: as you because we're in the exact same boat. And
- 21:22Speaker 4: they're like, I'm scared, but here's my safety in net
- 21:24Speaker 4: and you're like, WHOA, Okay, I don't actually have a
- 21:26Speaker 4: safe in net. I should be way scared than you.
- 21:29Speaker 4: And I didn't realize that until you said that. That's
- 21:33Speaker 4: the kind of feeling. It's like I'm panicked now all
- 21:34Speaker 4: of a sudden.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's not a situation anyone should be in.
- 21:38Speaker 2: True anyway, any move on from that and I will
- 21:41Speaker 2: explain the tea that.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Wo oh my god, I'm so excited. So this first
- 21:45Speaker 4: one comes from Sophie, who must know me a little
- 21:48Speaker 4: bit too well because I mentioned a few would have
- 21:51Speaker 4: been a few months ago. I reckon like this gaming
- 21:54Speaker 4: app that sounds dodgy, but it's like thing. It's called
- 21:56Speaker 4: free Cash or something. You download apps, you play games,
- 21:59Speaker 4: you get money. He's legitimate because you have to watch
- 22:02Speaker 4: all the ads and stuff it is. Yeah, you do
- 22:03Speaker 4: have to watch as you don't to spend money. You
- 22:05Speaker 4: don't have to spend a cent. I've made like seven
- 22:07Speaker 4: bucks in a few months, but Sophie.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Seven dollars in a few months I didn't have before.
- 22:14Speaker 4: And it is fun.
- 22:15Speaker 2: No judgment, fun, thank you, no judgment. Because I play
- 22:18Speaker 2: candy Crush and I don't make it exactly.
- 22:20Speaker 4: But imagine you're useless game totally. Imagine you're just like
- 22:23Speaker 4: in a scroll whol for hours and you're like, oh man,
- 22:25Speaker 4: this is so dumb. But then you're like, wait, I
- 22:27Speaker 4: probably made forty cents today to take.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Money playing would Q puzzle. I'd be I was earning
- 22:34Speaker 2: money from watching tiktoks. I would be wealthy, and there was.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Probably a way to do that.
- 22:40Speaker 2: There's no figure it out.
- 22:41Speaker 4: We'll figure it out. So Sophie said that shop Back
- 22:44Speaker 4: actually have games on there. Sorry what Yeah, And so
- 22:47Speaker 4: Sophie made fifty bucks. I haven't like, fully, Sophie fifty dollars?
- 22:51Speaker 4: I know, isn't it so good looking into this? Yeah?
- 22:55Speaker 4: That that that would have taken me like a year
- 22:56Speaker 4: to make.
- 22:57Speaker 2: So this is really in your gaming app. You need
- 22:59Speaker 2: to I don't need free game anymore. I need shot
- 23:02Speaker 2: Back shot back game. So I'm going to be checking that.
- 23:04Speaker 4: I just wanted to let everyone know please check shot
- 23:05Speaker 4: back games.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:06Speaker 4: And then the next one comes from Amrita, who says,
- 23:09Speaker 4: if you check your spam, make sure there's definitely difference
- 23:13Speaker 4: between spam and scam. I noticed this the other day too.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Obviously you get your like all the promotional stuff in
- 23:19Speaker 4: your junk inbox. But and Marita said that she found
- 23:23Speaker 4: an email from my car auto you know, the kmart
- 23:26Speaker 4: offering her one hundred dollars off and seventeen cents Oh
- 23:29Speaker 4: did you Yeah, seventeen cents off petrol at Coal's Express.
- 23:34Speaker 2: And that's not seventeen cents off is it's so good.
- 23:38Speaker 4: And I believe it's seventeen cents off petrol is for
- 23:42Speaker 4: like eight weeks, like two months or something, which is
- 23:43Speaker 4: like a big chunk of time. So that's why I
- 23:47Speaker 4: know it's a dumb break tip because I'm like, I'm
- 23:48Speaker 4: telling you to check your spam, but.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Don't forget my car points lover coming in my car.
- 23:53Speaker 5: You can get FLYBYCE points when you do your services there.
- 23:56Speaker 5: I didn't know that your tires and stuff and they
- 23:58Speaker 5: I don't know if it's all services, but I know
- 24:00Speaker 5: with my last but maybe it's a deal that they run.
- 24:02Speaker 2: But look into it.
- 24:03Speaker 5: I got a year of free roadside assistance with my sermon.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yes, I always get one of those.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Yes, So don't like, don't pay for roadsid assistance, just
- 24:09Speaker 5: totally do you know what I mean?
- 24:10Speaker 2: Double stack it?
- 24:11Speaker 4: Oh my god, double stack it. God, You're so smart,
- 24:14Speaker 4: You're so smart with your words. And then this next
- 24:16Speaker 4: one comes from myself. Obviously it's Valentine's Day and my
- 24:21Speaker 4: pacycle falls on the fifteenth, and so oh no, I know.
- 24:24Speaker 4: So I'm like, well, all this and also mine just
- 24:27Speaker 4: as anniversaries on the seventh of February, so it's seventh
- 24:29Speaker 4: of February, fourteenth of February. I'm like, I ain't got
- 24:32Speaker 4: any money left. That's savings, that's everything. I've got no
- 24:34Speaker 4: money left for arguably one of the biggest times of
- 24:38Speaker 4: the entire year for me and my partner. So I
- 24:42Speaker 4: decided to take up a few different hobbies that were
- 24:45Speaker 4: really really cheap. So crocheted a big love heart pillow.
- 24:50Speaker 2: Why the sweet.
- 24:53Speaker 4: That's very sweet, But I just want you guys to
- 24:55Speaker 4: know that it literally costs, like I think I was
- 24:58Speaker 4: thirteen dollars in total. That's the stuff, that's the yard,
- 25:01Speaker 4: that's the crochet needle. But you actually use my finger
- 25:04Speaker 4: because it was so thick.
- 25:05Speaker 2: You crocheted with your fingers. Yeah, my finger was so
- 25:08Speaker 2: you're a crochet with your fingers and I'm an ally.
- 25:10Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, no, gorgeous.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Imagine the power. We have so much power.
- 25:18Speaker 4: So that was, honestly, yeah, because the croshet neodle was
- 25:22Speaker 4: not actually needed. I used my finger instead. That was
- 25:25Speaker 4: probably eight dollars in total.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And that's a.
- 25:27Speaker 4: Gorgeous gift you straight with a bit of your perfume.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Gorgeous and you're so sweet.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Can you imagine in the rip out party?
- 25:36Speaker 5: Absolutely not, absolutely not, like I'm leaving vicariously through you.
- 25:42Speaker 4: That's so cute. Well suggestions if you got The next
- 25:47Speaker 4: one is actually I also took up pottery and literally
- 25:50Speaker 4: with like the firing and all this, like legitimate pottery.
- 25:53Speaker 2: I saw on your instagram your pottery creations. They were
- 25:57Speaker 2: so cute. Yes, thank you.
- 25:58Speaker 4: So I have, you know, a match box which I'll
- 26:01Speaker 4: share online, matchbox ceramic that is usable. I'm trying to
- 26:05Speaker 4: figure functional is the way I'm thinking of. And then
- 26:08Speaker 4: obviously all these other little trinkets and things like that,
- 26:10Speaker 4: and the whole so cute. The whole thing was like
- 26:13Speaker 4: the fifteen dollars for ten killers of clay, which is gigantic.
- 26:16Speaker 4: It's gonna last for the rest of my life. And
- 26:17Speaker 4: then to actually get everything fired is like, I don't know,
- 26:20Speaker 4: it's ten dollars a kilo or something.
- 26:21Speaker 2: When you say to get everything fired, oh sorry, you
- 26:24Speaker 2: take it somewhere and you just get it fired, like
- 26:27Speaker 2: is there like a clay shop.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Yes, well this didn't make any sense to me before
- 26:31Speaker 4: I did this, but my my friend actually told me,
- 26:33Speaker 4: so you have to go to a pottery. I go
- 26:36Speaker 4: to Northot Pottery, which is actually not in Northgate's in
- 26:38Speaker 4: Brunswick East. They're just Google pottery supplies near you fire
- 26:44Speaker 4: things for you. They also fire things and so you.
- 26:46Speaker 4: Firstly I had no idea. Yes, and so my friend
- 26:50Speaker 4: I get that was a hobby that was out of reach.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Oh my god, totally I thought the same thing. But
- 26:54Speaker 4: I would recommend stoneware clay. It's easier for beginners to like,
- 26:58Speaker 4: it's malleable whatever. So you go in and then you
- 27:01Speaker 4: do one firing. You glaze it, you paint it, You
- 27:05Speaker 4: paint it, you glaze it, you fire again. That's it,
- 27:08Speaker 4: which sounds very You are.
- 27:10Speaker 2: So creative and tell people will have partners that I'll
- 27:14Speaker 2: like tonight. They're going to be like I thought about
- 27:17Speaker 2: getting you flowers. I thought about taking you out for dinner.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I thought about thoughts dump him.
- 27:25Speaker 4: No, thoughts aren't paying the bills.
- 27:27Speaker 2: If you guys could see beck, Yes, what's just wearing today?
- 27:34Speaker 4: Well this is really it was quite a festive jumper.
- 27:38Speaker 2: It's pink and red.
- 27:39Speaker 4: It's pink and red. It's beautiful, it's romantic, and if
- 27:43Speaker 4: I squint my eyes a little bit and look a
- 27:44Speaker 4: bit closer, it actually reads dump him. And so I
- 27:48Speaker 4: think it's like, maybe it's on brand for today in
- 27:52Speaker 4: big red, big red writing letters it says dump him.
- 27:58Speaker 4: So I think it's a reminder to anyone out there,
- 28:00Speaker 4: whether you're doing a he or her, if they're not
- 28:02Speaker 4: putting in the effort, then friends are the best alternative
- 28:08Speaker 4: to and the best everything. But you don't need a partner.
- 28:11Speaker 4: And if they're not putting effort, go to your friends
- 28:13Speaker 4: and have a nice Galanine's day.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Not hand sculpting you Clay, Yes.
- 28:17Speaker 4: Is that exactly exactly?
- 28:23Speaker 2: Someone is going to have to let this man in
- 28:25Speaker 2: on the secret I'll him off.
- 28:27Speaker 5: Well, I love that.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I feel like that is very wholesome. Let's go to
- 28:31Speaker 2: a really quick break. On the flip side, we are
- 28:33Speaker 2: going to be having a chat about not being fairly
- 28:36Speaker 2: compensated at work, which is going to be hard and
- 28:38Speaker 2: something you slid into our d MS about this week.
- 28:41Speaker 2: We're talking what to do when you and your partner
- 28:43Speaker 2: aren't aligned on your joint goals not on Valentine's Day.
- 28:48Speaker 4: A savage.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Welcome back everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 28:56Speaker 5: money dilemma.
- 29:00Speaker 6: Hi.
- 29:00Speaker 2: There, have you got a money dilemma you just can't
- 29:03Speaker 2: solve that. She's on the Money Team is here to help.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big and small,
- 29:09Speaker 2: to answer your most burning money, career and life questions.
- 29:12Speaker 2: To get involved, simply head to our website and leave
- 29:15Speaker 2: us a short voice recording and you might just find
- 29:17Speaker 2: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 29:20Speaker 2: this week's money dilemma.
- 29:24Speaker 7: Hi, my issue is about pay rises and job title change.
- 29:29Speaker 7: So I work as a product developer for a medium
- 29:31Speaker 7: sized fashion brand and our product team consists of my
- 29:34Speaker 7: manager who's the head of product, another product developer, and
- 29:37Speaker 7: a print coordinator. We used to have a fashion designer.
- 29:39Speaker 7: As of that they've fired her. During our either review,
- 29:43Speaker 7: we was discussed that we were understaffed and overworked, so
- 29:45Speaker 7: we'll be hiring someone new to help us out. Shortly after,
- 29:49Speaker 7: the other product developer announced she was pregnant, so our
- 29:52Speaker 7: new hire was going to turn into a maternity lived
- 29:54Speaker 7: cover due to personal reasons my manager has moved away
- 29:58Speaker 7: for six months and we'll be working remotely print corner
- 30:00Speaker 7: it has just quit. But don't live in a major city,
- 30:02Speaker 7: so it's hard to find someone with the right experience.
- 30:05Speaker 7: And now my manager's not in town, she won't be
- 30:07Speaker 7: able to train someone new. So what was the team
- 30:09Speaker 7: of five has now become a team of two who
- 30:12Speaker 7: is just me and my boss who was working remotely.
- 30:15Speaker 7: I've now been tasked with handling print work, fashion design,
- 30:18Speaker 7: and product development. Last year, we had three full time
- 30:21Speaker 7: staff members for these roles, and now it's just me.
- 30:23Speaker 7: This is casually mentioned to me in a group setting
- 30:26Speaker 7: for framed as an opportunity for me to grow. Last year,
- 30:29Speaker 7: I did ask for a pay rise and I was
- 30:31Speaker 7: told that growth isn't linear and that my role depends
- 30:34Speaker 7: on experience over time. As I don't have KPIs. I
- 30:37Speaker 7: suspect asking for another pay rise will mean she'll just
- 30:41Speaker 7: say that it's temporary for the next six months and
- 30:44Speaker 7: once the other developer comes back, the role will change again.
- 30:48Speaker 7: Help me, please, I can send you more in for
- 30:50Speaker 7: mo gay.
- 30:53Speaker 4: I Did you say mo gay?
- 30:55Speaker 2: I said okay, okay, mogay does doesn't make sense like
- 31:01Speaker 2: even problems.
- 31:07Speaker 4: This sounds really that this this is so annoying. One
- 31:10Speaker 4: of my biggest pet peas. Maybe it's not identical to
- 31:12Speaker 4: what our listener is talking about, but when companies, either
- 31:17Speaker 4: strategically or accidentally or whatever, make the team a little
- 31:22Speaker 4: bit less and less, like every year, just subtly and
- 31:24Speaker 4: like give each person, pre existing person more responsibilities until
- 31:29Speaker 4: they have so little people in their team that they
- 31:32Speaker 4: don't have to pay that much. But everyone they're still
- 31:34Speaker 4: doing all the work.
- 31:35Speaker 5: That's what I'm trying to say.
- 31:35Speaker 4: And that's that annoys me. But I don't have any
- 31:38Speaker 4: advice that Victoria could give.
- 31:41Speaker 2: What about advice that you would give.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I would find a whole different place to work, I
- 31:50Speaker 4: would start. Yeah, I would be leaving there as soon
- 31:55Speaker 4: as possible.
- 31:55Speaker 2: So Beg's over and out.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Yeah I am.
- 31:58Speaker 4: And I think I just we're not just numbers, were
- 32:00Speaker 4: not money makers. We're just where like they't haven't seen
- 32:04Speaker 4: that already been there, they haven't like kind of been like,
- 32:07Speaker 4: oh wow, we're really putting a lot of pressure on
- 32:09Speaker 4: our team already.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Then I.
- 32:12Speaker 4: I just think you should leave. I just think you
- 32:13Speaker 4: need the stuff from scratch, you need to get out
- 32:15Speaker 4: of their asap and maybe that's bad advice.
- 32:18Speaker 2: No, that's not bad advice. It's advice from a friend.
- 32:21Speaker 2: That's true, the advice from a friend, your friend.
- 32:24Speaker 4: I'm your friend exactly, but it could be redeemable. Mmm, Jess,
- 32:28Speaker 4: what are your thoughts. Well, you said that it's your
- 32:31Speaker 4: Severie has said that it's based on the breadth of
- 32:33Speaker 4: your role rather than role.
- 32:35Speaker 2: She was going to go down.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Oh that's great to year because the breadth of my
- 32:41Speaker 5: role has expanded to include three other people's jobs. So
- 32:44Speaker 5: by your definition, I should be earning all of their salaries.
- 32:48Speaker 2: God is so embarrassing. Sorry, carry on.
- 32:53Speaker 5: Just obviously they're not going to do that. But I
- 32:56Speaker 5: would argue that you're in quite a position of power
- 32:58Speaker 5: like they have lost. Oh yeah, you are in a
- 33:01Speaker 5: massive position effect. You probably don't feel that way right now,
- 33:04Speaker 5: but you are, my friend. They've lost every staff member
- 33:07Speaker 5: but one who is remote.
- 33:08Speaker 2: You'rely and it's your manager.
- 33:10Speaker 5: It's your manager. You're the only one holding down the fort.
- 33:13Speaker 5: You've just told me it's very difficult to hire into
- 33:16Speaker 5: your job. Everything that you have just said says to
- 33:19Speaker 5: me that they can't afford to lose you.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Like, do you know what I mean.
- 33:23Speaker 5: And obviously, if you're not being looked after, as Beck said,
- 33:25Speaker 5: get the hell out of there. But I would be
- 33:27Speaker 5: sitting down with your manager and saying, hey, I'm doing
- 33:29Speaker 5: the jobs of three people. You haven't replaced any of them.
- 33:33Speaker 5: I've taken on all of their workload, or we've split
- 33:35Speaker 5: it between myself and my manager. However it's worked, list
- 33:38Speaker 5: out all the things that you're doing that you weren't
- 33:40Speaker 5: doing before and say hey, like, either you compensate me
- 33:43Speaker 5: for this, I just can't do it actually, yeah, or
- 33:47Speaker 5: I'm getting out of here. Yeah, those are your options.
- 33:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so good.
- 33:51Speaker 2: It's an interesting conversation to have because I think a
- 33:54Speaker 2: lot of us go oh, it can be absorbed and
- 33:56Speaker 2: you go, yeah, of course. And I mean in our team, happen.
- 34:00Speaker 2: We're a tiny team, so you know, if someone leaves
- 34:03Speaker 2: or if you know, let's a good example, someone's on holiday,
- 34:06Speaker 2: I'll be like, hey, Jess, can you help out for X,
- 34:09Speaker 2: Y Z. And I feel like that's very different. No, no, no,
- 34:12Speaker 2: it is very different. But like you'll shift around what
- 34:15Speaker 2: you're doing and put a few things off so that
- 34:17Speaker 2: in your thirty eight hours of work a week, like
- 34:19Speaker 2: you can accommodate a few extra tasks, but if I said,
- 34:23Speaker 2: can you please take on Brooklyn George's roles, your current
- 34:27Speaker 2: role needs to step back as well, because you're telling
- 34:30Speaker 2: me that there's going to be more capabilities that I
- 34:33Speaker 2: need to fulfill each and every single week. But at
- 34:36Speaker 2: the end of the day, you're actually only paying me
- 34:38Speaker 2: for thirty eight hours a week, like you are paying
- 34:40Speaker 2: me to be present for those hours. So I would
- 34:44Speaker 2: be sitting down and going okay, cool, like I do
- 34:47Speaker 2: all of these things, and you've just given me a
- 34:48Speaker 2: list of other things you want me to do. Which
- 34:51Speaker 2: ones are going to take a cut? Like which ones
- 34:53Speaker 2: am I not doing?
- 34:54Speaker 4: So like I do?
- 34:56Speaker 2: And you might want to break down the role because
- 34:57Speaker 2: like they can't really argue with this. You want me
- 35:00Speaker 2: to break down the role into okay, well, you know, don't.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I don't really know what you do because I know
- 35:06Speaker 2: you developer, but I don't know what this means. When
- 35:11Speaker 2: you said print coordinator, I was like, I don't know
- 35:13Speaker 2: what a print coordinator is, but they must be important
- 35:16Speaker 2: because you've said you've lost them, so you had five
- 35:20Speaker 2: people and you do not have the capacity to do
- 35:23Speaker 2: all of those roles. So I would be sitting down
- 35:26Speaker 2: and going okay, cool, Like, I do my job for
- 35:28Speaker 2: thirty eight hours a week. Did you want me to
- 35:29Speaker 2: like allocate fridays to doing parts of her job?
- 35:33Speaker 1: Oh?
- 35:33Speaker 2: Yes, no, maybe, no, no, no, we're hoping you can
- 35:35Speaker 2: do it on top of that. Okay, Well, one, when
- 35:38Speaker 2: am I finding the time? Because that's actually really unreasonable
- 35:41Speaker 2: to expect. But two, no worries. Back to what Jess
- 35:45Speaker 2: was saying. You said, growth isn't linear. It's going to
- 35:47Speaker 2: be based on you know, what I take on, And
- 35:49Speaker 2: that's fine. So if I'm taking this on for this
- 35:51Speaker 2: period of time, I do actually expect to be compensated.
- 35:56Speaker 2: And I know that our listener wrote in or voice
- 36:00Speaker 2: it in and said, you know, maybe I would revert
- 36:04Speaker 2: back to the original salary, Like and let's pretend you
- 36:07Speaker 2: really want to stay in this job and it's not
- 36:09Speaker 2: about leaving and finding somewhere that values you. Maybe that
- 36:13Speaker 2: actually never happens, like because after six months, let's pretend
- 36:17Speaker 2: that Maternity Live Cover comes back and you know, other
- 36:19Speaker 2: people are on the team and they go, oh, we're
- 36:22Speaker 2: going to put you back to your other salary. I
- 36:24Speaker 2: would go, Okay, great, noise who's taking those jobs off me?
- 36:28Speaker 2: Because I can almost guarantee they won't take the jobs
- 36:31Speaker 2: off you, and at that point they can't revert your
- 36:33Speaker 2: payback because you'll be like, cool, So are you saying
- 36:35Speaker 2: that you now want to pay me less to do
- 36:37Speaker 2: the same job, or are you actually going to be
- 36:39Speaker 2: taking that off me? Because if you're going to be
- 36:40Speaker 2: taking that off me, great, And I'm not going to
- 36:43Speaker 2: beat around the bush here. You don't need to be
- 36:45Speaker 2: paid for the two people's roles if you're not doing
- 36:48Speaker 2: the two people's roles. But I can almost guarantee that
- 36:50Speaker 2: if you've taken this on and proven to them that
- 36:52Speaker 2: you do it, and you're doing it really well, this
- 36:55Speaker 2: sounds like a company that's probably not going to hire
- 36:57Speaker 2: if they don't need to. If you're proving capable and
- 37:01Speaker 2: confident in that role. We're not talking about burnout or
- 37:04Speaker 2: we're not like you need to take all those things
- 37:06Speaker 2: into consideration. But the likelihood of them actually dropping your
- 37:09Speaker 2: salary back to what it was before would mean that
- 37:12Speaker 2: they would have to sit down and talk to you
- 37:14Speaker 2: about the fact that they're taking capabilities off you. Because
- 37:17Speaker 2: if they said, oh, Beck, it's been six months, we've
- 37:19Speaker 2: hired this person, you go, cool, how's my job changed?
- 37:23Speaker 2: Embarrassing for them?
- 37:25Speaker 4: True?
- 37:26Speaker 2: So also you mentioned that you don't have KPIs. Not
- 37:29Speaker 2: every business has KPIs. We don't. She's on the money,
- 37:33Speaker 2: we don't have KPIs, like just doesn't have any. But
- 37:36Speaker 2: that doesn't limit her. So what that says to me
- 37:41Speaker 2: is that the business is using their lack of framework
- 37:45Speaker 2: to not support you in your growth. I would be
- 37:49Speaker 2: asking for KPIs and even.
- 37:51Speaker 5: Just chalking up what you do because you're totally right, like,
- 37:53Speaker 5: I don't have set KPIs that I work towards. Have
- 37:55Speaker 5: you said to me, what have you done? You know
- 37:56Speaker 5: in the last yar, Oh, I know what you've done.
- 38:01Speaker 5: It's so I can think of ten things off the
- 38:03Speaker 5: top of my head that I would go, oh, I've
- 38:04Speaker 5: done this and that, Like, I'm sure in whatever job
- 38:07Speaker 5: you do, it would be the same yep. And if
- 38:09Speaker 5: you're not sure what that looks like, maybe look at
- 38:11Speaker 5: other job descriptions or roll descriptions for your job and
- 38:14Speaker 5: look at what the kind of key markers are within
- 38:17Speaker 5: the industry as well exactly and go, oh, like that's
- 38:19Speaker 5: what I can benchmark myself against because even if there
- 38:21Speaker 5: aren't KPIs in place, you will be delivering something absolutely
- 38:26Speaker 5: a small team, Like I find that the smaller the team,
- 38:31Speaker 5: the harder.
- 38:31Speaker 2: It is to just float along as well. So we're
- 38:33Speaker 2: assuming that there would be a lot that you were doing.
- 38:35Speaker 2: But yeah, I would be asking for KPIs because they've
- 38:38Speaker 2: essentially said, hey, our business structure actually really limits your
- 38:41Speaker 2: growth and even your ability to understand what you've achieved.
- 38:45Speaker 4: Is what not?
- 38:45Speaker 2: You just said to me, And that's not cool. Like
- 38:48Speaker 2: I would never sit down with Jess and be like, well,
- 38:49Speaker 2: because you don't have KPIs, like what like for us,
- 38:54Speaker 2: it doesn't make sense. It's not in our culture to
- 38:56Speaker 2: have KPIs, Like I don't want, Like, that's just not
- 39:00Speaker 2: for me, and that's fine. Other businesses would be like,
- 39:02Speaker 2: we would absolutely fall over without our kPr and that's cool,
- 39:06Speaker 2: Like each to their own. But don't they use something
- 39:09Speaker 2: that you don't have in your business as an excuse
- 39:12Speaker 2: for not supporting your team. That's not fatal. I just
- 39:15Speaker 2: think it's a cop out for them to be like, oh,
- 39:17Speaker 2: we don't have KPIs, Like okay, cool. So how did
- 39:19Speaker 2: you write the job description for the now missing like
- 39:22Speaker 2: three people in our team, Like where's that come from?
- 39:25Speaker 2: Like how did you work out what their capabilities needed
- 39:28Speaker 2: to be? How do you know what I need to cover? Like,
- 39:30Speaker 2: there's just a lot to it. And I'm not saying
- 39:32Speaker 2: that what they're doing is right. It absolutely isn't. But
- 39:36Speaker 2: it also just sounds sketchy. You said something that told
- 39:40Speaker 2: me your business is toxic. You said about I think
- 39:45Speaker 2: it was a product developer. You said, but they fired her.
- 39:49Speaker 2: That tells me everything I need to know about the
- 39:51Speaker 2: culture of your business and the fact that you need
- 39:53Speaker 2: to get out whoa like But they fired her, like
- 39:57Speaker 2: as though like the tone of that was not you know, oh,
- 40:01Speaker 2: but they had to let her go. It wasn't oh,
- 40:03Speaker 2: but they fight like it was the tone And that's
- 40:05Speaker 2: so fine, Like I get it, But that's telling me
- 40:09Speaker 2: that management probably aren't that respectful. Yeah, because that's not
- 40:13Speaker 2: how people who have respectful management talk.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Such a great point.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Should we get into this week's Oh I can't wait,
- 40:22Speaker 2: I can't wait. Are you ready ready? Okay? Hey, she's
- 40:26Speaker 2: on the money queens. Hi, My partner and I want
- 40:29Speaker 2: to buy a home together this year. I have an
- 40:31Speaker 2: apartment I bought alone during COVID times that has equity
- 40:35Speaker 2: and have saved a substantial amount, made many sacrifices, don't
- 40:40Speaker 2: worry to have for another house deposit. They only have
- 40:43Speaker 2: a tenth of what I have saved, smaller salary than
- 40:46Speaker 2: me too, So it's not entirely their fault, but I'm
- 40:49Speaker 2: ready to go. I can't help but feel hurt and
- 40:52Speaker 2: dismayed that they're taking so long to catch up. I
- 40:56Speaker 2: realize it's not their fault, but I've been working tooth
- 40:59Speaker 2: and nail and feel like I'm more ambitious. What should
- 41:03Speaker 2: I do? Thanks? Guys? What would you do?
- 41:07Speaker 5: Oh?
- 41:07Speaker 4: I have anxiety in my belly. I know it happens
- 41:10Speaker 4: all the time. I'm sorry, guys, I just know, wiz
- 41:11Speaker 4: this is happening. But I get this whole conversation is
- 41:16Speaker 4: like scary and stressful. I first of all, the partner
- 41:19Speaker 4: doesn't have as much disposable income. Yeah, and so that
- 41:24Speaker 4: in itself is like, yeah, they're probably gonna take a
- 41:27Speaker 4: bit longer. But I do want to preface this whole
- 41:29Speaker 4: thing by saying, I know that our listener is not
- 41:32Speaker 4: by any means being cruel or harsh or anything. They
- 41:36Speaker 4: did say that they understand the situation. But the person
- 41:42Speaker 4: on the other end who might have been making as
- 41:44Speaker 4: much money probably already feels a little bit like, ah,
- 41:46Speaker 4: I'm kind of not contributing financially as much as I could.
- 41:51Speaker 4: You might feel bit inferior in that way. But at
- 41:53Speaker 4: the end of the day, let's all remember that everything
- 41:58Speaker 4: is completely made up. Money is made up. Like the
- 42:03Speaker 4: value of ourselves should be based on how we are
- 42:06Speaker 4: and how we treat people and how we and what's
- 42:09Speaker 4: like whatever values are and stuff like that, like that
- 42:11Speaker 4: that's actually what matters. But I can understand that now
- 42:13Speaker 4: I've kind of gotten to this point where how much
- 42:15Speaker 4: money you make can make you feel either really inferior
- 42:20Speaker 4: or really superior, which it should not. How much you save,
- 42:23Speaker 4: how the ability that you have to save, and none
- 42:26Speaker 4: of that should actually matter. But I can understand that's
- 42:28Speaker 4: not what's in question here. I'm just saying for the
- 42:30Speaker 4: person who's not saving as much might be feeling a
- 42:33Speaker 4: certain way, but it's really like some people I really
- 42:37Speaker 4: admire this, like they can really make themselves like not
- 42:41Speaker 4: want to get uber eries and not spend an extra
- 42:44Speaker 4: thirty cents to get soy milk and all these things
- 42:47Speaker 4: like they are so on to milk. Do I get
- 42:50Speaker 4: swy milk?
- 42:50Speaker 2: Do you get swy milk?
- 42:52Speaker 4: I get soy milk, And sometimes it's a dollar more.
- 42:56Speaker 2: I know I could tell you your coffee or what
- 42:58Speaker 2: It's fine. It's fine, you can.
- 43:02Speaker 4: But even sometimes I'm sitting on my couch, I'm like,
- 43:03Speaker 4: I really feel like a coke zero. I will literally
- 43:06Speaker 4: be breath.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I know.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I judgment, but like you are not uber eats in
- 43:12Speaker 2: coke zero.
- 43:14Speaker 5: Have a couple of bottles in your pantry, Bob.
- 43:17Speaker 4: Listen, you can't tell me I'm thirsty, don't have any
- 43:20Speaker 4: bottles in my pa, but I will be doing that
- 43:22Speaker 4: from now on.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Next time call me.
- 43:25Speaker 4: True, you'll drive to me and bring me.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Okay, that's it, that's it.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Yelling will make people sad, and maybe you want to
- 43:34Speaker 4: get breath.
- 43:36Speaker 2: I know where you live, Like, I literally know where
- 43:39Speaker 2: you live, and you are walking distance from getting yourself
- 43:42Speaker 2: a coke zereou get off the couch.
- 43:44Speaker 4: That's true, that's true. Okay, I'll message you next time.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Well, you live in a regional town that doesn't have access.
- 43:50Speaker 4: To go like no, we also wouldn't have breats, so
- 43:53Speaker 4: you just be I'll just be thirsty all night.
- 43:55Speaker 2: Oh no, it's almost like water doesn't exist.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Actually would be hard. But I'm saying even with someone
- 44:02Speaker 4: as someone who doesn't actually make that much money, and
- 44:05Speaker 4: I mean I make I make a decent amount, but
- 44:06Speaker 4: I don't have any savings, Like I shouldn't.
- 44:09Speaker 6: Be doing this.
- 44:09Speaker 4: It's still in those moments, I'm like, it's nothing. It's
- 44:12Speaker 4: not like I'm like battling in my mind. It's like
- 44:15Speaker 4: not even a thought for me.
- 44:16Speaker 5: I just can't.
- 44:17Speaker 4: I cannot possibly save in those moments. And so I
- 44:20Speaker 4: think people who can and always do and are very
- 44:23Speaker 4: consistent and very impressive, but some people just genuinely are
- 44:27Speaker 4: wired differently and that's not their fault. So I think
- 44:32Speaker 4: all those negative feelings of you know, they're valid, but
- 44:35Speaker 4: maybe try not to make or not not saying you are,
- 44:38Speaker 4: but maybe trying not to put, you know, kind of
- 44:40Speaker 4: like transfer that feeling to the person who is already
- 44:44Speaker 4: not keeping up. They're probably stressed.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Sure, there seems to be a gap between expectation versus reality,
- 44:52Speaker 2: Like your expectation might be up here, but like who
- 44:55Speaker 2: set those expectations? Was it you and your partner together?
- 44:59Speaker 2: Because like you know, buying a home is definitely like
- 45:02Speaker 2: you might both have that goal and that's great, and
- 45:05Speaker 2: you've set that like as a shared goal, we want
- 45:06Speaker 2: to purchase a property together, but like, what's the reality
- 45:10Speaker 2: of your financial circumstances and did you actually sit down
- 45:13Speaker 2: and agree to Okay, Like if you and your partner
- 45:16Speaker 2: beck sat down and said, oh, we want to buy
- 45:18Speaker 2: home together, like, there would be a lot of conversation around, well, okay,
- 45:24Speaker 2: what do we need to do to achieve that, and
- 45:27Speaker 2: what's valid and what's going to work or not? Because
- 45:30Speaker 2: you know, you spend money differently to other people and
- 45:33Speaker 2: I spend money differently to other people as well, and
- 45:35Speaker 2: we need to talk about you know, what are your habits,
- 45:37Speaker 2: what are the things that are going to happen, Like
- 45:39Speaker 2: what disposable income do you even have to save? And
- 45:41Speaker 2: if those conversations have been had and you know, your
- 45:44Speaker 2: partner was like, yeah, yeah, I'm saving this, I'm saving this,
- 45:46Speaker 2: and then you get to the end of it and
- 45:47Speaker 2: they just don't have it, that's a different story too.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Oh.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Actually I never had that conversation with my partner, and
- 45:55Speaker 2: I just expected that they would be as good as
- 45:57Speaker 2: me at saving Then oh, we need to reset that. Yeah,
- 46:02Speaker 2: just what are your thoughts?
- 46:03Speaker 5: Yeah, depending on what kind of conversation you had at
- 46:05Speaker 5: the start. The thing that our listener wrote in that
- 46:07Speaker 5: kind of flagged for me was you said that you've
- 46:10Speaker 5: made a lot of sacrifices to save your deposit, and
- 46:13Speaker 5: I think, like, obviously keeping into account the fact that
- 46:15Speaker 5: your disposable incomes vary, do you feel like your partner
- 46:19Speaker 5: is matching that energy, Like, are they also willing to
- 46:22Speaker 5: make sacrifices? That's what I would kind of base my
- 46:24Speaker 5: feelings on, like are we both like like, if I
- 46:27Speaker 5: earn double what you earn, you of course are not
- 46:29Speaker 5: going to be able to safe the same amount as me.
- 46:31Speaker 5: And that makes perfect sense. But if I am then
- 46:34Speaker 5: still foregoing the uber eats and foregoing all these things,
- 46:38Speaker 5: but you're still going out on the weekend and blowing
- 46:39Speaker 5: it with the boys or doing whatever, it says that
- 46:42Speaker 5: maybe our priorities are a little bit different, which is
- 46:44Speaker 5: not a bad thing, but again you kind of need
- 46:46Speaker 5: to get on the same page. I would look at,
- 46:49Speaker 5: can you afford you've got equity in a deposit ten
- 46:52Speaker 5: times the size of your partners? Can you just by
- 46:54Speaker 5: by yourself like ten times is a lot. It's like
- 47:00Speaker 5: you're saying, oh, my deposits ten times what yours is.
- 47:04Speaker 5: Maybe you have one hundred thousand and your partner has
- 47:05Speaker 5: ten thousand, or if you say fifty grand, they have
- 47:08Speaker 5: five grand, and it's like, well, that's actually significant. And
- 47:13Speaker 5: to me, if you had that amount, maybe they're not
- 47:16Speaker 5: ready to buy either because they might not have like
- 47:18Speaker 5: a good emergency fund. They might not be equipped for
- 47:21Speaker 5: that financial decision, which you clearly are. And that's absolutely fine,
- 47:26Speaker 5: but I would be looking into that, Jess. And I
- 47:27Speaker 5: mean it's not necessarily.
- 47:29Speaker 2: Your situation, but like you're buying on your own, and
- 47:32Speaker 2: like that's the plan, and you know, I don't think
- 47:35Speaker 2: that that's a bad thing. This listener has actually done
- 47:38Speaker 2: that before. They said that they have an apartment that
- 47:40Speaker 2: they've already purchased with equity, Like is that something you
- 47:43Speaker 2: want to do again? Or let's talk about timeframes. Why
- 47:48Speaker 2: are you in a situation where you're like, oh, I
- 47:50Speaker 2: really want to buy, I really want to buy, Like
- 47:52Speaker 2: you actually already own property. Do we need to wait
- 47:55Speaker 2: for your partner to like, you know, you're ready to
- 47:58Speaker 2: go fantastic but they might not be there yet. And
- 48:01Speaker 2: this might be like their first purchase that they really
- 48:03Speaker 2: want to share with you, and it should be exciting
- 48:06Speaker 2: as opposed to stressful, Like, yeah, where's the sense of
- 48:10Speaker 2: urgency around purchasing coming from right now? Because like, I
- 48:13Speaker 2: get it, I do the second you decide you want
- 48:15Speaker 2: property like you want it yesterday, I get it. But
- 48:20Speaker 2: where's that pressure coming from?
- 48:22Speaker 5: Can we talk about it and have you earn the
- 48:23Speaker 5: numbers to see that they can service the loan once
- 48:27Speaker 5: you get it?
- 48:27Speaker 2: Would be mad than because if you're saying, again, we.
- 48:29Speaker 5: Don't have exact figures, so you could be that they're
- 48:31Speaker 5: saving two urine like five thousand dollars a month, then
- 48:34Speaker 5: it's not a question of that. But you just remember
- 48:37Speaker 5: that once you get your deposit together and once you
- 48:39Speaker 5: make the purchase, you still have to pay your rent,
- 48:41Speaker 5: You still have to pay your rates, You still have
- 48:42Speaker 5: to pay all of those homeowner things.
- 48:44Speaker 2: If they're struggling to keep.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Up with you in terms of saving for the deposit,
- 48:48Speaker 5: chances are they're probably going to struggle keeping up with
- 48:50Speaker 5: you in terms of having the funds for those things too,
- 48:54Speaker 5: Like have you done the numbers? Are they capable? Is
- 48:56Speaker 5: that something they want to do? Like, can they only
- 48:58Speaker 5: do it if they completely sacrifice their lifestyle. Maybe that's
- 49:01Speaker 5: something they're not eager for. Yeah, Like, yes, you've got
- 49:03Speaker 5: to get on the same page ball and at the
- 49:06Speaker 5: end of it, if you find that it's just not
- 49:08Speaker 5: the right timing for the both of you, is it
- 49:10Speaker 5: something you can and or want to do alone? And
- 49:13Speaker 5: if not, maybe that's an avenue you can explore.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Yeahue, And even just the language used in that message,
- 49:19Speaker 2: like I just always break everything down so I try
- 49:22Speaker 2: and understand it. You said, but I've been working tooth
- 49:25Speaker 2: and nail and feel like I'm more ambitious. Like that
- 49:29Speaker 2: to me is a reflection of you maybe seeing their
- 49:32Speaker 2: worker thick and what they're doing. Like there's no way
- 49:35Speaker 2: like and this is maybe just personal preference, but like
- 49:37Speaker 2: there's no way in any dynamic where I would say,
- 49:41Speaker 2: oh my gosh, I've been working tooth and nail if
- 49:44Speaker 2: the other person wasn't lacking. If that makes sense, Like,
- 49:48Speaker 2: you know, Jess and I might be working on a
- 49:50Speaker 2: project together and I might go, I've been working tooth
- 49:53Speaker 2: and nail on this, and like the next thing would
- 49:56Speaker 2: be because I feel like Jess is letting me down,
- 49:58Speaker 2: because otherwise I'd say some of the wind project's not
- 50:01Speaker 2: doing someone's not doing their part, because otherwise I'd say
- 50:04Speaker 2: we've been slaving away at this together because you told
- 50:07Speaker 2: me it was a joint goal. But now you're saying
- 50:10Speaker 2: you think you're too ambitious, because yeah, I just feel
- 50:14Speaker 2: like you wouldn't say I think I'm too ambitious if
- 50:16Speaker 2: you felt like the other person wasn't lacking that trade.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but also I do want to say if the
- 50:22Speaker 4: person is like ambition and money, there's no correlation.
- 50:26Speaker 2: No, I agree, And it's also so hard, like let's imagine,
- 50:30Speaker 2: you know, we spoke to them, or I spoke to
- 50:31Speaker 2: a money direst a couple of weeks ago and they
- 50:33Speaker 2: were like, yeah, my partner works in like as a
- 50:36Speaker 2: kindergarten educator and they don't make much money. Like you
- 50:40Speaker 2: think about these roles where someone might be working, you know,
- 50:44Speaker 2: part time, or they might even be working full time
- 50:47Speaker 2: and just not making enough to pay rent bills, this,
- 50:50Speaker 2: that the other, and save, and you might find that
- 50:53Speaker 2: the person who earns forty five thousand dollars a year
- 50:56Speaker 2: is actually a better money manager than someone who earns
- 50:59Speaker 2: two hundred thousand dollars a year because the person who
- 51:02Speaker 2: earns forty five thousand dollars to save it requires them
- 51:06Speaker 2: to go above and beyond with their budget and be
- 51:07Speaker 2: super frugal and like really savvy, and like the fact
- 51:10Speaker 2: is that they're even saving anything should be rewarded. Yeah,
- 51:13Speaker 2: But then someone on two hundred grand, they get to
- 51:16Speaker 2: sit back a little bit more comfy and be like,
- 51:18Speaker 2: savings are not that hard. It's like, yes, it is.
- 51:21Speaker 2: You're in a privileged position where that comes so much
- 51:25Speaker 2: easier to you, when in reality, if we looked at it,
- 51:28Speaker 2: the person who's earning forty five thousand dollars is a
- 51:30Speaker 2: better saver. Just because you've got more doesn't mean you're better.
- 51:34Speaker 2: So I just I think it's so important to break
- 51:37Speaker 2: it down and be like, well, what is even there,
- 51:39Speaker 2: Like do you understand their capacity to save? And once
- 51:42Speaker 2: you understand that, what are their values? Because my values
- 51:47Speaker 2: play out in my spending all the time and I
- 51:50Speaker 2: don't actually want that to change. Like if someone said
- 51:53Speaker 2: you have to cut absolutely everything to do X, Y
- 51:55Speaker 2: and z, but that thing wasn't as important to me
- 51:58Speaker 2: as it was to you, Like it's probably not going
- 52:00Speaker 2: to happen.
- 52:02Speaker 4: I'm so sorry. One more thing. One more thing. I'm
- 52:03Speaker 4: ready as a person who has been in a similar
- 52:06Speaker 4: situation with someone who's buying something that I wanted to
- 52:09Speaker 4: be a part of but only had like a small
- 52:11Speaker 4: portion of, and was like, Wow, this is literally my
- 52:13Speaker 4: ownly opportunity. I didn't have but doing it, But this
- 52:16Speaker 4: is my ownly opportunity because I own have like the
- 52:18Speaker 4: luxury of like family or anyone who will be able
- 52:21Speaker 4: to lend me money in the future. So I'm like,
- 52:23Speaker 4: this could be my thing. And then to not go
- 52:26Speaker 4: through with it, or to not have the money to
- 52:28Speaker 4: like kind of keep up with the person you're going
- 52:30Speaker 4: to buy with, it does feel like shit, to be honest.
- 52:33Speaker 4: And so maybe your partner is like, I've never had
- 52:37Speaker 4: the opportunity. I've never been so close to being able
- 52:39Speaker 4: to buy my own property, and my only opportunity right
- 52:44Speaker 4: now is to do that. The only option is to
- 52:46Speaker 4: do that with you. Otherwise I just cannot feasibly buy
- 52:49Speaker 4: myself a property. And is there an option too, And
- 52:53Speaker 4: if you're like, oh, yeah, I'm happy with that, maybe
- 52:55Speaker 4: there's an option to like maybe do like five percent,
- 52:57Speaker 4: I don't know, make it like legal or something, do.
- 53:00Speaker 2: An agreement, But it knows what you contribute.
- 53:02Speaker 4: At least they're kind of in there, you know, yeah, yeah,
- 53:04Speaker 4: but I don't know.
- 53:05Speaker 2: They're full conversation. We did ask the community, do you
- 53:08Speaker 2: want to know? What?
- 53:08Speaker 4: They would love to know?
- 53:10Speaker 2: So we asked what would you do if you had
- 53:12Speaker 2: saved more than your partner for a house? Ten percent
- 53:15Speaker 2: of you said you would wait for them to catch up,
- 53:18Speaker 2: twenty eight percent of you said buy the house alone,
- 53:20Speaker 2: and sixty one percent of you said buy together with
- 53:23Speaker 2: what you have now.
- 53:24Speaker 7: Cool.
- 53:25Speaker 2: So then we asked how would you handle feeling resentful
- 53:29Speaker 2: about saving more? Fifty six percent of you said I
- 53:32Speaker 2: would have an open conversation about it, thirty percent of
- 53:35Speaker 2: you said except you have different situations, and fourteen percent
- 53:38Speaker 2: of you said I would reassess our financial compatibility. Resent
- 53:42Speaker 2: is one of those emotions.
- 53:43Speaker 5: I feel you have to deal with it because if
- 53:45Speaker 5: you leave resent alone, it's simmers and festers and just
- 53:49Speaker 5: takes over and takes on a life of the zone
- 53:51Speaker 5: like you.
- 53:52Speaker 2: You can't sit on it.
- 53:53Speaker 4: You have to.
- 53:54Speaker 5: I think you have to have a conversation or you
- 53:56Speaker 5: have to come to a point of resolution within yourself.
- 53:58Speaker 2: But you can't just leave it. Yes, eat your last Yes,
- 54:01Speaker 2: I agree, I agree. We did ask the community for
- 54:03Speaker 2: their two cents. First person said, my fiance and I
- 54:06Speaker 2: in the same boat, and we're planning on getting a
- 54:08Speaker 2: binding financial agreement and still buying cool I love that
- 54:12Speaker 2: that's literally what you were suggesting.
- 54:14Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Another person said, you need to get your goals in alignment.
- 54:17Speaker 2: It sounds like you're not on the same page when
- 54:19Speaker 2: it comes to expectations. Another person said, dividing finances only
- 54:24Speaker 2: sets you up for always comparing finances. She's kind of
- 54:29Speaker 2: interesting because like same, like when Steve and I were
- 54:33Speaker 2: saving for our first home, we had a joint savings
- 54:37Speaker 2: account to do that in, and we honestly didn't keep track.
- 54:42Speaker 2: And that's a very privileged thing, but we didn't keep
- 54:44Speaker 2: track of who was contributing what, and like there will
- 54:47Speaker 2: be like if we go back, there will be one
- 54:49Speaker 2: person who contributed more. But at the time, we were
- 54:52Speaker 2: working towards a shared financial goal of having a family
- 54:55Speaker 2: home together. And like, you know, if and when we
- 54:59Speaker 2: would have like separated, I think we would have dealt
- 55:02Speaker 2: with it then, But it was never something that crossed
- 55:04Speaker 2: our minds to be like, oh, but you're contributing this
- 55:07Speaker 2: and I'm contributing that, but in saying that, we did
- 55:09Speaker 2: feel like we were contributing semi equally, like one of
- 55:13Speaker 2: us more at the time, Steve earn significantly more than me.
- 55:17Speaker 2: So he's the one, Just to be very clear, it
- 55:19Speaker 2: wasn't me. He is the one that would have been
- 55:21Speaker 2: contributing a lot more than I was. But like the
- 55:24Speaker 2: way we saw it was one day, it all all
- 55:26Speaker 2: come out in the wash, and like we're both contributing
- 55:28Speaker 2: to this relationship, and like, from my perspective, I'm very grateful,
- 55:32Speaker 2: But the way my husband sees it is like we
- 55:35Speaker 2: both contribute and it's not always financial, like it can
- 55:39Speaker 2: be in labor and division and support, and like, I
- 55:42Speaker 2: just find it really refreshing that sometimes those comments are
- 55:45Speaker 2: coming from my husband.
- 55:46Speaker 5: Or not me.
- 55:47Speaker 2: Someone else said, you need to unpack why you currently
- 55:49Speaker 2: feel hurt. There might be a lot more to it
- 55:52Speaker 2: than just that. I agree. Someone else said, maybe worth
- 55:56Speaker 2: a discussion because how's the mortgage going to be split
- 55:59Speaker 2: base on your different salaries. Another person said, you have
- 56:03Speaker 2: to honor your feelings and respectfully tell them how you
- 56:06Speaker 2: feel within communication is the answer.
- 56:09Speaker 1: No.
- 56:12Speaker 2: Another person said, it's not the total that matters. It's
- 56:14Speaker 2: whether they matched your sacrifice to save in a similar way.
- 56:19Speaker 2: I agree. I loved that. And then last one someone
- 56:21Speaker 2: contributed we split based on percentage of our income. I
- 56:25Speaker 2: bring in x percent and he brings in one percent.
- 56:27Speaker 2: So that's just how we split our joint costs. Cool,
- 56:31Speaker 2: lots of options.
- 56:31Speaker 4: There's many options.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Ah, comes back to communication, doesn't it, Jessica, Oh my goodness. Well,
- 56:39Speaker 2: it has been a week. I have been grateful for
- 56:42Speaker 2: everyone and everything this week, and I'm just so grateful
- 56:44Speaker 2: that we've got to have a chat with you guys today.
- 56:47Speaker 4: Yeah, so good.
- 56:48Speaker 2: We will see you bright and early on Monday morning
- 56:50Speaker 2: for money.
- 56:51Speaker 4: Darry though, see them Happy Valentine's Day.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Bye guy Bye.
