- 1:04And on this particular show, we're going by the nicknames that we use in our friend group.
- 1:09So here is Ruby.
- 1:11Hello.
- 1:12And here is Sapphire.
- 1:13Hi, everyone.
- 1:14And so just to remind you, Ruby is a bodyworker.
- 1:18She does a lot with working with people, but getting into their own bodies through radical
- 1:22embodiment and a lot of other hands on and, deep rooted practices to get inside your own
- 1:28body and feel feel everything, really.
- 1:32And you can check out her other episode where we go more into
- 1:36all of her work.
- 1:37And then we have Sapphire who does a lot with both social justice as well as conflict
- 1:44resolution.
- 1:45And so these are a couple of my friends, like I said.
- 1:48Today's episode is about tuning in.
- 1:51We're gonna talk about tuning into pleasure, and we're gonna talk about tuning into pussy.
- 1:57And I know some of you guys are hearing that word and thinking, like, what did she say?
- 2:02As the reason for choosing that word is a few different reasons.
- 2:06One, to get out of the medical, you know, to get out of the medical and into the pleasure,
- 2:11and also to reclaim this word because innately, this word is talking about our female anatomy.
- 2:16Right?
- 2:16It's talking about this place of pleasure and power and joy and so many different wonderful
- 2:22things.
- 2:23And to have this word that has this connotation about some part of our female body that is
- 2:30fabulous, that is pleasure, that is sacred is really, really needs to be reclaimed.
- 2:35If you have any sort of reaction to that word, you might consider going and reading a great
- 2:41book by mama Gina called Pasea, a Reclamation.
- 2:44And it goes deep into some of the reasoning for really sinking into that word and owning that
- 2:50word and what that really means.
- 2:52And without further ado, we're gonna talk about it.
- 2:55So welcome to girlfriend edition.
- 2:57Yay.
- 2:58Alright, ladies.
- 2:59So let's start with just the question of pleasure.
- 3:04Tell me about, like, pleasure practices, how you tune into pleasure.
- 3:09Let's just open up the conversation to pleasure.
- 3:11Yeah.
- 3:13I'll start actually on this one.
- 3:15What I what first comes up for me you saying that is, at least in my experience and
- 3:21especially some of the clients I work with, pleasure can seem, it's a it can be a little
- 3:27bit of a charge of triggering worry.
- 3:28It can seem so out of reach.
- 3:30Or when we're thinking of pleasure.
- 3:31Of course, this is the libido doc podcast.
- 3:33So we are talking sex and sexuality and pleasure is so much more than that.
- 3:40Pleasure is something that can act it be very innocent in nature as well.
- 3:45And I think starting to also recognize that individually, if it is something that
- 3:50somebody's feeling triggered around or like it feels wrong or there's old shame, Think of a
- 3:57baby.
- 3:58You know, think of a toddler in different times when they're just in their pleasure.
- 4:01Right?
- 4:01I think of you got my dog, Tula Rose.
- 4:04Right?
- 4:04She's so in her pleasure, and it's so innocent.
- 4:07They're just go orienting around what do they need, what makes them feel good.
- 4:12And something as simple as one of my favorite times a day is my morning coffee and wish you
- 4:18know, when I have it, it's a very pleasurable experience for me.
- 4:21I mean, I love my I love coffee, and I like to just sit and to the best of my ability,
- 4:27depending on the day.
- 4:28But more days than not, I don't do anything.
- 4:31I just sit and I sip and I breathe, and I'm just present with the taste, with my
- 4:37environment.
- 4:38And that's such a pleasurable experience for me.
- 4:40It's such a great way to start my day to just tune in with how am I today?
- 4:46What is my intention for today?
- 4:47What do I wanna focus on today?
- 4:50Right.
- 4:50And tune into what is this, you know, beverage I'm drinking?
- 4:54What does it taste like?
- 4:55How is the texture?
- 4:56So I think pleasure is such a broad.
- 4:58It can mean, you know, it's so much.
- 5:00And it's, I think, especially for us women, it's it's our such a gift and and essential for
- 5:07us to be in pleasurable experiences, the nonsexual and the sexual.
- 5:13So that's what I'll just, yeah, start with.
- 5:16Yeah.
- 5:17And it is it's such an important thing.
- 5:18Right?
- 5:19Because I think so many times when we're thinking of pleasure, we're thinking of just,
- 5:22like, sexual pleasure.
- 5:24And I think it's so easy to forget that pleasure actually can come from a point of just
- 5:28the coffee.
- 5:29Just all those little things that we actually do because pleasure is so oftentimes, I think,
- 5:34taught to us as like, but I don't have time for that.
- 5:37Yeah.
- 5:37Or that's not a priority.
- 5:39It's indulgent.
- 5:40It's an indulgent.
- 5:41Right?
- 5:41It's selfish.
- 5:42Yeah.
- 5:43Right?
- 5:44And I think the more we can actually tune in to like like like, what you're saying is like, oh,
- 5:49but you're enjoying it.
- 5:50You're breathing.
- 5:50You're getting into that moment.
- 5:52Like, setting yourself up for the day is presencing.
- 5:55Right.
- 5:55I think.
- 5:56Right.
- 5:56When we're connecting into our pleasure, we're presencing.
- 6:00Right.
- 6:00Yeah.
- 6:01Like, I think a lot with that too about, like, the giving and receiving.
- 6:04Right?
- 6:04And, like, giving and receiving of life is something I've really been reflecting on a lot.
- 6:08I just read this book, doctor Rosalyn, I believe, is the the woman's name, called the
- 6:13DPS.
- 6:14Mhmm.
- 6:14And it's just really all about all these areas in life Mhmm.
- 6:18That, like, that we receive in and that that so many times we don't take that moment to, like,
- 6:23deeply receive.
- 6:25And when we do, like, we, like, push back on that receiving, then it's a lot harder to give.
- 6:31Because if I'm, like so, like, giving yourself that time in the morning, it is about the
- 6:36pleasure.
- 6:36It is about the joy, but it's also about filling you up Yeah.
- 6:39So that you can go into your day, right, with, like, being like your cup is full and
- 6:43you can fully show up to your work and your life.
- 6:46Yeah.
- 6:46Right?
- 6:46Totally.
- 6:47Totally.
- 6:48Totally.
- 6:48Yeah.
- 6:49Versus, like, chugging it, and I'm doing this.
- 6:52I'm doing this.
- 6:53Or, you know, I can drink a cup of coffee in five minutes, seven minutes.
- 6:58You know, it doesn't have it it it doesn't yeah.
- 7:00And and how it sets me up and also then not just going into scroll mentality, not going to
- 7:07be you know, it just
- 7:08I think it allows me to
- 7:09be more efficient even.
- 7:10Right?
- 7:10If we are thinking of it's an indulgence, I don't have the time.
- 7:13It doesn't have to be coffee.
- 7:15Right?
- 7:15There's so many other ways to be But free and pleasure.
- 7:18But Right.
- 7:19Yeah.
- 7:19I I am always trying to for myself or anyone I work with of how can we implement or bring some
- 7:24of these practices in that's not just another to do, which also I think when we're checking
- 7:29to dos off, it feels less pleasurable.
- 7:31It's just, okay.
- 7:32I did that thing.
- 7:32I touched my pussy today because I'm in a
- 7:35pussy course than I'm supposed to, or, you know, or whatever it may be.
- 7:38So at least for me, I don't I might be alone in this, but sometimes those things can just
- 7:43become another to do if that's.
- 7:45And so how can it just me wanting to feel more pleasure, me wanting to just be more with
- 7:51myself, tune in more with myself?
- 7:53How can I weave that into what I'm already doing?
- 7:55Yeah.
- 7:56Mhmm.
- 7:57That's beautiful.
- 7:58Yeah.
- 7:58That's beautiful.
- 7:59How about you?
- 8:00What have you found with pleasure?
- 8:02Yeah.
- 8:02Something I've been thinking as I've been listening to Emily is, this quote that, someone
- 8:08actually shared to me shared with me years ago when I was writing my thesis.
- 8:11So not exactly a pleasurable experience.
- 8:15But he said energy flows where attention goes.
- 8:19Yeah.
- 8:20You know?
- 8:20So where you place your attention, more energy goes there.
- 8:25And I think with pleasure, it's something that really needs to be cultivated.
- 8:30So finding at any anywhere without or anywhere throughout my day.
- 8:36If I'm drinking my coffee, if I step outside and I notice how the air feels, You know, I'm
- 8:44taking a walk and notice how good it feels to just be in my body, allowing myself to notice
- 8:52the pleasure in that.
- 8:55And I think for, especially for women, like Emily is saying, there's this pressure to to do
- 9:01a lot, to be there for others to, multitask.
- 9:05Mhmm.
- 9:06And that sometimes is a requirement.
- 9:08Right?
- 9:09Sometimes we just have to go there.
- 9:11And what can we do to try to push up against that expectation or that conditioning in our
- 9:19inner world, you know, to find the sourcing of pleasure within our own system, that's
- 9:27available to us all the time through presence, really, like Emily saying, you know, if I can
- 9:33just kind of sink in with my coffee versus looking at Instagram while I drink my coffee,
- 9:40it allows a little bit more space and availability to access pleasure.
- 9:46So there's really, I think, something that could be, it could be quite difficult in that
- 9:51it's sort of countercultural and maybe against our routine and, and the habits that we're in.
- 9:57And yet it's also quite simple because it's there for us if we can place our attention in
- 10:04the ways that we really want to cultivate more.
- 10:07Yes.
- 10:08So may I ask you both this?
- 10:10Have either of you ever had an orgasm while thinking about something else?
- 10:16Like, I'm a grocery.
- 10:16Like, we're still here.
- 10:17This question.
- 10:18I was going, like, aren't you shopping?
- 10:20Or you know?
- 10:21Point being, like, is it possible to have an orgasm and not be present in your body?
- 10:30For me, it's not.
- 10:31For yeah.
- 10:31Like, nothing's coming today.
- 10:33I'm really, Lincoln.
- 10:34No.
- 10:34No.
- 10:35I appreciate you.
- 10:35Like, the easy people, you have much Nick, Derek, answer me.
- 10:40Yeah.
- 10:40Especially because in orgasm, my my body needs to be relaxed.
- 10:46Yeah.
- 10:47You know, present and relaxed, and there's something inherent in if I'm thinking about my
- 10:54to do list or my problem at work or, you know, a family issue, My body's not relaxed.
- 11:01Yeah.
- 11:01You know, it's the absolute opposite.
- 11:03It's tight in addition to being in my head and being distracted and being somewhere else.
- 11:09So makes sense to me that presence in pleasure is required for something like a climax or an
- 11:17orgasmic experience.
- 11:18Yeah.
- 11:19Yeah.
- 11:19Yeah.
- 11:20Yeah.
- 11:20Yeah.
- 11:20Absolutely.
- 11:21And so in my mind and the rest of the day, it's like the, like our day to day activity as well
- 11:26as our sensual activity is all just one big presence practice.
- 11:31Right?
- 11:32Mhmm.
- 11:32Just like tuning into the body, to the sensuality, and all of that.
- 11:36And, yeah, and and and
- 11:37I think what I think feels important with that Yeah.
- 11:41Especially in our modern, like, culture and world that is, you know, at least in
- 11:47The US, like, pretty, a lot of high level of worth on productivity, a lot of high level
- 11:52of worth on there's just a lot of distractions and bombardments, whether or not, like, family,
- 11:58like, requirements, obligations, but then also screen notifications constantly, all of that.
- 12:04And so just finding ways to set up reminders
- 12:08Mhmm.
- 12:09To help tune in.
- 12:10You know, what is it that, like, can help trigger that ex you know, trigger it meaning,
- 12:14like, just help bring you back into you to remind myself, oh, right.
- 12:18Okay.
- 12:18Could I experience a little pleasure here?
- 12:20Is there even a little bit of space?
- 12:23I'm feeling really agitated.
- 12:24I'm feeling really overwhelmed.
- 12:26Whatever is okay.
- 12:28That's fine.
- 12:28We we talked about in our girlfriend episode that in a little air before this, but Sapphire
- 12:33mentioned the, noticing with approval.
- 12:37So noticing that with approval first.
- 12:39And then from there, I don't need to change it, but could I just have a is there a little space
- 12:44on the scale for me to just slow that down
- 12:47Yeah.
- 12:48Mhmm.
- 12:48A little bit, which I think invites a little little more pleasure, a little more ease.
- 12:53Mhmm.
- 12:54But just finding, you know, whether it be maybe it is a reminder on your phone.
- 12:58Maybe it's a, you know, a every time you go to your mirror in the bathroom, you see a little
- 13:03sticky.
- 13:03But something to just help.
- 13:06For me, I'm, again, very essential.
- 13:07So I have texture.
- 13:08So when I feel texture of when I walk my dog, I usually always feel bark on a tree because that
- 13:13just helps ground me.
- 13:14It helps me feel the nature, feel the earth.
- 13:16It's simple.
- 13:17Right.
- 13:17But it's a rich it's, you know, it's I think because you could call it a ritual.
- 13:20Yeah.
- 13:20It's not.
- 13:21It's simple, but I just I always will touch at least one tree every morning with her.
- 13:25Mhmm.
- 13:25Yeah.
- 13:25So just finding ways to help remind us Yeah.
- 13:28When we're not invited most of our life,
- 13:32most of our day.
- 13:32Yeah.
- 13:33And I'd love to build on that for tuning into pussy.
- 13:37That's is going next.
- 13:38So let's go there.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39Our favorite talk.
- 13:41That's right here on the logon doc.
- 13:45I've just really benefited so much from what you're talking about in terms of building
- 13:50routine and ritual where I am placing my attention, bringing that attention to my pussy,
- 13:57to that place, the actual physical place, to my vulva, to that that whole sex center throughout
- 14:06the day.
- 14:07So before I get out of bed in the morning, noticing just how is my pussy?
- 14:13What's how am I feeling?
- 14:16You know, sometimes like, is there any information there?
- 14:19Is there something, you know, is there discomfort?
- 14:23Is there pleasure?
- 14:23Is there tightness?
- 14:25Just, and again, noticing with approval, coming back in the middle of the day.
- 14:30Oh, what's happening with my pussy?
- 14:33And just, just checking in.
- 14:35And what I've learned over time is that the more my attention is going there, the more I'm
- 14:41actually feeling.
- 14:43So if anybody's interested in trying this, I would recommend don't give up.
- 14:47If you start this practice and aren't feeling much because it's new and and because of many
- 14:55aspects of our history, we might experience numbness or even sort of fear or repulsion.
- 15:02Right?
- 15:02We're we're taught in many cultures that this is some dirty part of our body to be ashamed
- 15:09of.
- 15:10And so it's natural to have a lot of resistance to something like actually tuning into your
- 15:16pussy.
- 15:17And I would encourage people to stay with it and to just be present with no judgment to
- 15:23whatever comes up because it seems like our pussies are there ready to be attended to,
- 15:31ready to be in relationship with us, and it can take some time.
- 15:35Yeah.
- 15:36I love that.
- 15:37Yeah.
- 15:37One of the things that our friend who goes by Lotus Aphrodite and I do when she and I ski and
- 15:43snowboard, We will sometimes run experiments where we're like, well, we'll ski, snowboard
- 15:48down the mountain, and then we'll say, okay.
- 15:50Well, what do we do this time?
- 15:51We're gonna lead from our pussy.
- 15:53And we'll, like, drop into, like, that feeling and actually, like like, ride down the mountain
- 15:59with, like, great attunement to that part and, you know, just combining, like, pleasure of
- 16:04snowboarding with pleasure of pussy.
- 16:07It's a really bloom.
- 16:09Practice.
- 16:09Okay.
- 16:10Womb.
- 16:10Because womb from them one of my practices is coming home, coming into womb.
- 16:13And so I opt in.
- 16:14We'll orient around my womb and checking in and going home.
- 16:17But, yeah, skiing from my womb.
- 16:20Yeah.
- 16:20I always feel confident, secure, grounded.
- 16:23Right.
- 16:23Yeah.
- 16:23It's a really different experience.
- 16:25So, like, in day to day life, you know, I think it's so easy for people to just be like, okay.
- 16:29Well, what if I take a walk and just, like, really tune into this part of myself?
- 16:33Like, you did such a good job with talking about integration and of, like, pleasure into
- 16:37your daily life.
- 16:38And so we can integrate, you know, pussy, like you're saying, into our daily life to just
- 16:43bring more awareness there.
- 16:44And just that awareness, like, where the mind goes, like like, the body will follow.
- 16:50Right?
- 16:50And so bringing that awareness there is one mechanism for really helping with that
- 16:55numbness.
- 16:56Yeah.
- 16:56Yeah.
- 16:57And I think about it.
- 16:58Pussy is not only about pleasure.
- 17:00Right?
- 17:00Pussy is about it's our creative Center.
- 17:03Yeah.
- 17:04So Yeah.
- 17:05Center of life force.
- 17:06Mhmm.
- 17:07And are we relating to it, tuning into it in that way most of the time?
- 17:14I would
- 17:14say most women are not.
- 17:15Probably not, I guess.
- 17:16Not that.
- 17:17So we need our girlfriends to do things like, yeah, how are we gonna ski down the mountain?
- 17:23I love that.
- 17:25Well, yeah.
- 17:26Sad.
- 17:26Really.
- 17:26And I like how you said too there's a readiness there that she's ready.
- 17:30Right.
- 17:31Yeah.
- 17:31Right?
- 17:31It might take time.
- 17:32Totally.
- 17:33Anytime we're checking out the body, if it's something that isn't typical for us, numbness
- 17:38can almost likely be expected.
- 17:41Right?
- 17:41So just having grace with that.
- 17:43Mhmm.
- 17:44But that doesn't mean, oh, it's not working for me.
- 17:46It just means great.
- 17:48Pause.
- 17:48Tomorrow, check back at Yeah.
- 17:50Tomorrow, and it will come, and she will.
- 17:52Yeah.
- 17:53That that she's there's so many messages there.
- 17:55Yeah.
- 17:56There is, like, this readiness.
- 17:57Every time I check-in, especially with my pussy, it's like,
- 18:00oh, hey.
- 18:01She just feels so eager.
- 18:03Us.
- 18:04Told
- 18:04Like, there's an yeah.
- 18:05Yeah.
- 18:06Yeah.
- 18:06Mhmm.
- 18:07Well, and another thing that you said that is, like, kind of combining something that you told
- 18:11me a while ago, Ruby, which is so you mentioned, Sapphire, about, like, shame and
- 18:15about, like, oh, we carry almost this lineage, I feel like, of women of so many years where it
- 18:22was there's all this shame and there was this hysteria movement and all of this, like, kind
- 18:26of movement of, like, disconnecting to this part of our physical body, our spiritual body
- 18:33in many ways.
- 18:34And then, Ruby, you were the one that that brought to my awareness the root of the word
- 18:39pudendal.
- 18:40The iudendal nerve, which is the nerve that innervates the pelvic floor.
- 18:44Right.
- 18:44So it's the nerve that carries that conduction to the pelvic floor.
- 18:47And and I've talked about this on this podcast once before, inspired by you.
- 18:51But I think because you mentioned that and just to bring that whole piece together around where
- 18:56this comes from around, like, that gentleness.
- 18:58Right?
- 18:58Because like you said, like, go slow, be gentle, and I think some of that is because of
- 19:04that we carry a lot of this shame.
- 19:06And so the nerve, if you wanna share
- 19:08well, has these roots.
- 19:09And so I learned this from Gil Headley who is if anyone's interested in the body,
- 19:14understanding the body, definitely go to GilHeadley.com.
- 19:16I have to put a plug.
- 19:17He's incredible.
- 19:18He's been doing dissections for over thirty years and holds, like, the deepest level of
- 19:23reference for the human body.
- 19:25And, so he's who I learned this from, but he the pudendal nerve, the background, the Latin
- 19:31root is around shame.
- 19:32It means to shame.
- 19:34And so how curious is it, right, that the naming of our an anatomical parts of the nerve
- 19:42itself that is innervating, that's giving this, I don't wanna say life force, but right the
- 19:46inner like, this part of our body, our pelvic floor from a very puritanical standpoint is
- 19:53literally shame isn't that's the root of the name.
- 19:56Wow.
- 19:57Right.
- 19:57And so I forget what he's he's him and a several other in the Rolfin community and the
- 20:02fascial community have been working to rename officially this nerve, and I forget what
- 20:07they're calling it.
- 20:07Yeah.
- 20:08I forget what you told me.
- 20:09Yeah.
- 20:09I I don't remember it right now off the top of my head.
- 20:11But that there is in the in that world, there is work and momentum to try to actually get
- 20:17this nerve renamed.
- 20:18Yeah.
- 20:18Wow.
- 20:19Yeah.
- 20:19That's nerve.
- 20:20Yeah.
- 20:21Watch out.
- 20:21Right.
- 20:22Yeah.
- 20:22Steve.
- 20:23Power.
- 20:25Plus.
- 20:26So we'll
- 20:29have to
- 20:29look that up and put that in the show notes.
- 20:31What are their what name they're moving working to move forward with and and then within their
- 20:36my community, what we're just referring to it with ourselves Yeah.
- 20:39Until it's officially, hopefully, renamed.
- 20:41Yeah.
- 20:41And the takeaway point for me is just like like what you're saying.
- 20:44It's like just that, oh, yeah.
- 20:45We have this history.
- 20:46Like, that's it's in the name.
- 20:48So you're feeling numbness, if you're feeling, like, shame, you're feeling any of these
- 20:52things, like, it's no surprise.
- 20:54Right?
- 20:55We're repatterning how we are approaching this part of our pleasure body.
- 21:00Yeah.
- 21:00And there's a lot of history to repattern down to how we've been looking at this part of our
- 21:06body medically.
- 21:07Yeah.
- 21:08Yeah.
- 21:08Yeah.
- 21:09It's a revolution.
- 21:10It is.
- 21:10That's it.
- 21:10It's a reclamation.
- 21:11Oh, sorry.
- 21:12Your reclamation.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:13Yeah.
- 21:14Read that book for sure.
- 21:15Yeah.
- 21:15Is there anything else you
- 21:16guys want to leave us with in
- 21:18this episode today?
- 21:19You feel anything was not said.
- 21:22I I wanted to add just to what you just said that something that happens for me when I'm
- 21:26doing this practice of tuning in with my pussy is sometimes it can be very emotional and
- 21:31scary.
- 21:31Sometimes I feel grief.
- 21:33Sometimes I feel desperation.
- 21:37I feel any type of sadness or embarrassment, and that it's I also find that to be an
- 21:45invitation just to be Yeah.
- 21:47What is.
- 21:48Right?
- 21:48So I don't go to that place and and feel grief and say, like, hey.
- 21:52No.
- 21:53You're supposed to be pleasure.
- 21:55Right?
- 21:55Like, that is also not what the the energy of pussy is about.
- 22:00Yeah.
- 22:01Yeah.
- 22:01There's actually an authentic truth there that I realize I may not be allowing myself to sense
- 22:10into because I'm busy and thinking about many things in my day, etcetera.
- 22:16But there's there's this sort of rootedness of something that needs to be experienced in my
- 22:22system.
- 22:23And so my my now, however imperfectly, my practice is to attend to what's there and not
- 22:32try to make it something different.
- 22:33Yeah.
- 22:34It's good to name that.
- 22:35Yeah.
- 22:35It is good to name that.
- 22:36I also
- 22:36I have a similar experience, I think, but, like, it in womb or which literally be center
- 22:43point of of pelvis or pussy.
- 22:44There's there's there's a different energy between the two, but, yeah, just a broad
- 22:50spectrum of emotion.
- 22:51It's not just, oh, I tune in there and then, yes, with time, I'll feel pleasure.
- 22:54It's and maybe, you know, I don't know your ex point, but sometimes it'd be like, oh, there's
- 22:57grief and there's pleasure.
- 22:58There's maybe there's a sense for me of when I'm tuning in from that point, if there's grief
- 23:02or sadness or anger, there's some sense at least for me also that it feels good, though.
- 23:07Yeah.
- 23:07And I think that has to do because we're in resonance and in truth with ourself.
- 23:10Right.
- 23:11Yeah.
- 23:11Versus deny.
- 23:12Yeah.
- 23:13Yep.
- 23:13So Yeah.
- 23:15Resonance and truth with ourselves.
- 23:16Right.
- 23:17Mhmm.
- 23:17Mhmm.
- 23:18That's a good place to end.
- 23:19A castle teacher.
- 23:22Oh, thank you, ladies.
