- 0:21Baylee: Hello everyone.
- 0:22Baylee: Welcome to Mocktail Minutes.
- 0:24Baylee: This is Bailey
- 0:26Track 1: And I'm Brianna.
- 0:27Baylee: today.
- 0:28Baylee: Well, every day we're starting with our fun mocktails.
- 0:31Baylee: Today I'm doing Op the Lemon Lime.
- 0:33Baylee: I went to Target yesterday and they had some fun flavors, so pick some up from there.
- 0:38Track 1: I just remembered that I actually picked something up specifically for this, but it's in my fridge, so I'll tell you what I already made just thinking of it.
- 0:47Track 1: I have today the jigsaw, the adrenal cocktail.
- 0:50Track 1: and I mix it with a little bit of pineapple juice because I don't really like the.
- 0:54Track 1: Flavor of it by itself.
- 0:55Track 1: Some people do.
- 0:57Track 1: I do not.
- 0:57Track 1: So just have like a little bit of pineapple juice in there.
- 1:00Track 1: That's fine.
- 1:00Baylee: not tried the adrenal cocktail yet, but I've heard the flavor.
- 1:04Baylee: Just not everyone loves.
- 1:05Baylee: So yeah, I've heard mixing with pineapple juice.
- 1:07Baylee: I think Megan does orange juice and maybe some coconut milk with it.
- 1:12Baylee: And it's kind of like a dream sickle.
- 1:14Track 1: Oh,
- 1:15Baylee: I.
- 1:15Baylee: guess we can kind of spill a surprise.
- 1:18Baylee: We didn't really talk about this before we hopped on, but I think we're gonna do a giveaway soon.
- 1:23Track 1: Oh, yes, we are.
- 1:24Track 1: It's a good giveaway too.
- 1:26Track 1: There's some fun stuff.
- 1:28Baylee: And part of it is the adrenal cocktail, so if you win, you get to try it.
- 1:33Baylee: But we'll, we'll post more details about it on our Instagram pages and we'll get that soon because we like to just give things away and they're really good prizes.
- 1:41Baylee: Part of me wants to just keep it all, but
- 1:43Track 1: I know But yeah, it's great.
- 1:47Track 1: You guys aren't gonna wanna miss it, so.
- 1:49Baylee: yes.
- 1:50Track 1: We'll give you more details soon.
- 1:52Baylee: So today we are talking about cutting back on alcohol.
- 1:57Baylee: We've had a few episodes lately, kind of we've discussed alcohol, what it looks like to you, how to include it mindfully, but I think working on the like cutting back piece of it can actually be really hard.
- 2:10Baylee: So we decided to dedicate a whole episode to it.
- 2:13Track 1: and I'm glad we're talking about this because I feel like alcohol is a hard thing to balance, you know?
- 2:18Track 1: And it's, it's one thing to say, oh, I'm gonna cut back.
- 2:21Track 1: And then it's another thing to kind of be in your real life and realize maybe how difficult that is and, you know, ask yourself, why am I doing it?
- 2:28Track 1: That sort of thing.
- 2:29Track 1: So hopefully after this episode you have some good tips on how that can like really work for you.
- 2:35Baylee: Yeah, I think it definitely is.
- 2:38Baylee: Maybe kind of one of the hardest pieces to almost let go of because it is a very social thing.
- 2:45Baylee: You go to the pool, you have maybe a vodka water, you have a seltzer, you have some beers maybe or anything like that.
- 2:52Baylee: You go to a concert, you're gonna have a drink you go to a family dinner, maybe you guys each order a drink there, and it's kind of like when you're.
- 3:00Baylee: With a, a group of people too.
- 3:02Baylee: If one person orders drinks, it kind of like sets the scene for everyone.
- 3:06Baylee: Then just everyone orders drinks, and then it's almost like you can't feel like, I don't know, sometimes I felt like a weirdo because I didn't get something to drink.
- 3:15Track 1: or it's like you're that one person that doesn't order, and everyone's like, oh, why are you sober?
- 3:20Track 1: Did you have an issue with alcohol?
- 3:22Track 1: I mean, oh my gosh, tell me.
- 3:23Track 1: And it's just like, okay, I just wanna order whatever I want to drink.
- 3:27Track 1: And it's like, doesn't have to be a thing, you know?
- 3:29Track 1: So I, I think.
- 3:30Track 1: You're right.
- 3:30Track 1: It is such a social thing and I feel like it puts people in a weird position where like a lot of times it's like, yeah, if someone does start ordering drinks, it's almost like I'm just gonna order a drink cuz I just don't wanna be that odd one out, you know?
- 3:42Track 1: So,
- 3:43Baylee: And there is kind of like that pressure almost to order it.
- 3:48Baylee: And for me, I'm 26 right now, so we do go out with friends a lot of the times and every time, I don't think we've ever gone to a event where're, not a single person, hasn't ordered alcohol.
- 4:01Baylee: Like there's always at least someone ordering something to drink.
- 4:03Baylee: And so it's always kind of just been a thing, like we go do something.
- 4:07Baylee: It includes drinks and especially.
- 4:10Baylee: You know, when I was in college, like
- 4:13Track 1: Mm-hmm.
- 4:14Baylee: lots of drinks were happening
- 4:16Track 1: Yeah.
- 4:16Baylee: and I think for me it came to a point where I was just like, I feel terrible, you know?
- 4:23Baylee: And I graduated college.
- 4:25Baylee: I got my first big girl job, and it was like, I just couldn't keep drinking every day.
- 4:31Baylee: It wasn't like I was getting hammered every night or anything like that, but, I was exhausted.
- 4:37Baylee: It was like my brain would not function at work.
- 4:41Baylee: It was hard.
- 4:42Baylee: Like obviously I got my job done.
- 4:44Baylee: I did everything.
- 4:44Baylee: I showed up every day for my job, but I like, I just felt terrible and I didn't want to feel that way anymore.
- 4:51Baylee: So that's when I was like, all right, I'm just, Not gonna drink during the week.
- 4:55Baylee: And it was kind of a slow transition and it was kind of weird just because so many things that we've done, like you went out to eat, we got some drinks.
- 5:03Baylee: So I think for me it was kind of learning to break the rules where you don't have to just, cuz you go out to dinner, you don't have to get drinks.
- 5:12Baylee: Just because you're at the pool doesn't mean you have to have a drink.
- 5:16Baylee: So kind of breaking those rules.
- 5:18Baylee: Really helped me decide what I wanted my week to look like, if it was gonna include alcohol and kind of planning ahead in that type of way.
- 5:26Track 1: and I think you bring up a good point, like you just felt kind of cruddy and I think people don't realize how much alcohol does affect them, and alcohol is such a normal thing.
- 5:35Track 1: It's normal to go out and have drinks.
- 5:37Track 1: It's normal to like, you know, at the end of the day, have a drink, wind down, that sort of thing.
- 5:42Track 1: And I think it's something we don't.
- 5:44Track 1: Think about when we are like trying to take a step back and be like, okay, I wanna get healthier, or I wanna feel better, I wanna have more energy, I wanna lose weight, that sort of thing.
- 5:53Track 1: We don't really take alcohol into account because it is so normalized.
- 5:57Track 1: I just think we don't realize how much it impacts us.
- 5:59Track 1: Like,
- 6:00Baylee: Mm.
- 6:01Track 1: You know, that's one of the first things I ask clients when they're like, you know, I have really low energy.
- 6:05Track 1: Well, number one, I ask, okay, are you eating enough?
- 6:07Track 1: Like, you know, besides the eating and the sleeping, like how much alcohol do you drink?
- 6:11Track 1: Is this a regular thing?
- 6:13Track 1: Do you do it every day?
- 6:14Track 1: Or you know, when you are doing it, how many drinks are you having?
- 6:17Track 1: And it's just like this light bulb moment of like, oh yeah, well I do have like my glass of wine every night.
- 6:22Track 1: It's like, okay, maybe that's where we need to start, you know?
- 6:24Baylee: and I think definitely starting, I guess I have two questions that you can ask yourself when you're thinking about alcohol.
- 6:31Baylee: Kind of thinking about what's my relationship like with this alcohol?
- 6:34Baylee: Number one, is it working for you?
- 6:36Baylee: Is it serving for you?
- 6:37Baylee: When I thought about that, I was like, no, it's not working for me.
- 6:41Baylee: I feel crappy every day.
- 6:43Baylee: I don't like being hungover.
- 6:45Baylee: I don't, like I said, I was not getting hammered or anything, and I wasn't like hungover every day, but the times where I was hungover, I'm like, This is a terrible feeling.
- 6:53Baylee: And then it kind of just set my week back because I didn't get my stuff done on Sundays and I was trying to do everything in like Monday and it just wasn't working for me anymore.
- 7:04Baylee: It wasn't serving me, it wasn't getting me to live this life I wanted to live.
- 7:09Baylee: I did not wanna live that way anymore.
- 7:11Baylee: So that's your first question.
- 7:13Baylee: And then the second question to kind of stop and ask yourself is what do you associate alcohol with?
- 7:19Baylee: And for me, I think it was.
- 7:20Baylee: Almost maybe a part of my personality, I felt like, because I always liked to go out and like to have fun.
- 7:28Baylee: So it was kind of just Bailey's going out, she's gonna have a drink or four or five so I kind of associated it with like being the fun person and I felt like if I gave it up then I couldn't have fun anymore, and maybe I was gonna be the weirdo or I was just gonna like miss out if I wasn't having it.
- 7:47Track 1: Yeah, and I think we do associate like alcohol with fun, you know?
- 7:51Track 1: It's like, oh, we're gonna go on vacation, we're gonna go out, we're gonna do this.
- 7:53Track 1: It's.
- 7:54Track 1: Like we're gonna a concert.
- 7:55Track 1: It's the first thing you think about is like drinks.
- 7:56Track 1: And it's almost like this pre-req, like you have to drink in order to have fun.
- 8:01Track 1: And I think that's like a slippery slope.
- 8:04Track 1: We just get easily caught up in that.
- 8:06Track 1: I think that's just like a normal thing.
- 8:07Track 1: But then it sometimes, for a lot of people, it turns into this like habit to where you don't know how to have fun without alcohol.
- 8:14Track 1: And then it's like, well, is this really still serving you?
- 8:17Track 1: Because now this might be.
- 8:19Track 1: More of an issue.
- 8:19Track 1: You know, it's kind of hard to have those genuine connections.
- 8:22Track 1: I mean, I used to say this all the time, like growing up, like you have your friends and then you have your friends you party with, and it's like the friends I party with, I would never just go out to dinner sober and like hang out with them.
- 8:32Track 1: Those isn't at the time,
- 8:32Baylee: Yeah.
- 8:33Track 1: There really are those people you just like, they're party friends, but like you kind of start to just surround yourself with those kind of relationships instead of like those deeper relationships that actually really pour into you
- 8:45Baylee: Yeah.
- 8:46Track 1: not saying that.
- 8:47Track 1: You can't have alcohol and do that, but you know what I mean?
- 8:49Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 8:50Baylee: .Yeah.
- 8:50Baylee: I kind of, sometimes friendships, I will say they do shift a little bit we do have those different types of people in our life.
- 8:59Baylee: Do you watch Vander Pump rules?
- 9:01Track 1: Yes.
- 9:02Baylee: So talking about this, it reminds me of, so Lala Ken, she has her podcast and I kind of, I started that from the beginning and I've started Vanderpump Rules from the beginning a few months ago.
- 9:13Baylee: And so seeing her journey kind of unfold with her becoming sober and everything, it's really cool to watch.
- 9:22Track 1: I
- 9:22Baylee: And yeah, I love hearing her story about it.
- 9:25Baylee: And she talks about it on her podcast so many times, and.
- 9:29Baylee: Someone had asked like, why did you decide to do this?
- 9:31Baylee: What was kind of your turning point?
- 9:33Baylee: And for her, I mean we all don't have this where we're able to watch herself on tv, but kind of she was literally seeing what alcohol was doing with her as the same time as she was feeling the effects of it, of going four days with nonstop drinking and being like getting to a point where she just don't, don't wanna do that anymore.
- 9:52Baylee: So yeah, I mean she has a really cool journey with that and.
- 9:56Baylee: It's interesting to watch Unfold on TV and then on our podcast too.
- 10:00Track 1: Yeah, and I think she is a good example too, because I still feel like she's fun,
- 10:05Baylee: Yes.
- 10:05Track 1: you know, like she's, she's fun.
- 10:07Track 1: And I think that's what people are most worried about is like, I'm not gonna be the fun person.
- 10:10Track 1: I'm not gonna know what to do, but.
- 10:13Track 1: Yes, you will.
- 10:13Track 1: And if you are surrounding yourself with people that only think you're fun when you're drinking, you probably need other friends you know?
- 10:22Track 1: But yeah.
- 10:23Track 1: So here are, let's get into like some tips that you can take away if you're, you know, maybe considering drinking less or not drinking anymore, you wanna go ahead and talk about a few of them.
- 10:33Baylee: Yeah, I would say number one, talk about it and not in a weird way where you have to have a sit down intervention with your family, or anything like that.
- 10:43Baylee: Yeah, just like talk about it and be upfront and honest with it.
- 10:46Baylee: Even if it's not to the point where you have like a drinking problem.
- 10:49Baylee: Even if it's just where you're like, you know what, I just wanna cut back.
- 10:52Baylee: I think that can just be helpful to be like, Hey, I'm not drinking tonight.
- 10:55Baylee: Just leave it at that.
- 10:56Baylee: Doesn't have to be any, anything weird.
- 10:57Baylee: It doesn't have to be an hour long conversation.
- 11:00Baylee: Just kind of let people in the loop just be like, I just don't want to
- 11:05Track 1: With that, get ready for the, are you pregnant question because I
- 11:08Baylee: Yeah.
- 11:10Track 1: You know, but yeah, just like, Hey, I'm not drinking tonight.
- 11:13Track 1: And like, you know, you're always gonna get, I mean, maybe not, maybe your family is like, okay, cool your friends drink or whatever.
- 11:19Track 1: But there's always gonna be like a couple people that are like, oh, why?
- 11:22Track 1: And like kind of really cry, I would say, and I tell clients this similarly when it comes to nutrition, like people who are like, oh, why are you choosing not to do that?
- 11:31Track 1: Or Why are you doing that?
- 11:33Track 1: It's always more about them and like their weird insecurities and whatever's going on inside their head.
- 11:39Track 1: So if you have someone that's like, oh my gosh, what happened to you?
- 11:42Track 1: Why are you doing that?
- 11:44Track 1: Has more to do with them and not you.
- 11:46Track 1: So yeah, just like the disclaimer upfront, Hey, I'm not drinking.
- 11:50Track 1: Cool.
- 11:50Baylee: Yeah.
- 11:51Track 1: Leave it at that.
- 11:52Baylee: And I guess kind of going along with it, another tip is deciding what your reasoning is.
- 11:57Baylee: Because while we don't have to explain ourself to other people, I mean, most of us are not just gonna randomly stop drinking and not have a reason.
- 12:05Baylee: Right.
- 12:06Baylee: So decide for yourself, why are you doing this?
- 12:09Baylee: And that's probably gonna be a lot more motivating.
- 12:11Baylee: My reason was because I was tired of feeling like crap.
- 12:14Baylee: I was tired of feeling like literally, I felt just so inflamed, to be honest, and just exhausted.
- 12:20Baylee: I was tired of feeling unproductive the next day.
- 12:23Baylee: And just the trickle effect and.
- 12:26Baylee: Honestly, I hate the feeling of being drunk anyways.
- 12:28Baylee: So deciding your reasonings, it doesn't have to be again, anything crazy,
- 12:32Track 1: Mm-hmm.
- 12:33Baylee: just why are you doing it?
- 12:35Track 1: And I think that really helps because I feel like something that's really appealing about like whole 30 and 75 hard and all that is like, it's a challenge.
- 12:45Track 1: And so a lot of people will be like, Ooh, I like that.
- 12:47Track 1: Like I can't drink for 30 days or 75 days cuz I'm doing this challenge.
- 12:50Track 1: And so, okay, while you may not do it, You are gonna start drinking again after whole 30, after 75 hard.
- 12:58Track 1: And it's probably gonna be a little too extra because you felt like you were restricting so much.
- 13:03Track 1: You know?
- 13:04Track 1: So find that.
- 13:06Track 1: Why like, you're not doing it cuz it's a challenge.
- 13:08Track 1: You're not doing it because it's like rules and you have to abide by these rules.
- 13:12Track 1: Like, you know, for me, when I stopped doing it during the weeknights, it was like I.
- 13:17Track 1: I've always woken up early, but I'm not like I'm on when I wake up and it's like I was getting up really early to get the kids out the door, get them to school, go do everything I had to do.
- 13:26Track 1: All my mornings were so early and I was just like super grumpy, super lethargic, just super irritable.
- 13:31Track 1: And I was like, I gotta figure out something for my mornings, because everybody's hating their lives.
- 13:36Track 1: And so I was like, okay.
- 13:38Track 1: I'm not drinking during the weeknight because I just wanna feel better in the mornings.
- 13:42Track 1: And that is way more of a, I want to do this, like a motivator than just being like, oh, I'm doing this 30 day challenge.
- 13:49Baylee: Yeah,
- 13:50Track 1: know?
- 13:50Track 1: And so.
- 13:51Track 1: yeah.
- 13:51Track 1: So it's like, why, why do you wanna do this?
- 13:53Track 1: And then you can really start figuring out like, you know, I mean, do you have gut health issues?
- 13:58Track 1: And maybe you, you want your gut to feel better?
- 14:00Track 1: Are you feeling inflamed?
- 14:01Track 1: Do you wanna feel less inflamed?
- 14:03Track 1: Whatever it's.
- 14:03Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 14:04Track 1: Yeah.
- 14:05Baylee: Yeah.
- 14:05Baylee: So with that kinda our third tip, I guess, is taking note of the difference that you do.
- 14:12Baylee: Feel when you make these changes with alcohol, but really with anything.
- 14:17Baylee: Realize the differences that you feel because you are going to feel a difference.
- 14:20Baylee: I mean, at first it might be weird, it might be hard, it might be awkward.
- 14:23Baylee: You're trying to like fill this gap and kind of navigate almost a new world, you know?
- 14:28Track 1: Yeah.
- 14:28Baylee: But like Brianna was saying, you could feel so much better in the mornings, like feel like you can actually get your day going.
- 14:36Baylee: Be able to go through your entire day without feeling like you're needing a nap.
- 14:40Baylee: It can really help the complexion of your skin.
- 14:42Baylee: It can help you have more energy.
- 14:44Baylee: It's going to help with like weight loss and even help you create maybe better coping mechanisms.
- 14:50Baylee: So with that being said, our fourth tip being stop the buffering, do you wanna kind of go into that?
- 14:58Track 1: Yes.
- 14:58Track 1: So I feel like alcohol is used as a buffer.
- 15:01Track 1: It's used to maybe make us feel a little less like of social anxiety.
- 15:05Track 1: Maybe you're in a relationship that isn't really great unless you're having drinks or you're unhappy with it, whatever it is.
- 15:11Track 1: Or maybe you're that mom that's like, I'm constantly stressed out and I need this after I put the kids in bed because like, oh my God, what a day, or, your job is stressful, whatever it is.
- 15:20Track 1: We use alcohol for a lot of that, but it's not a very healthy coping mechanism and it doesn't actually change any situations or make the situations better.
- 15:31Track 1: It usually makes'em worse.
- 15:32Track 1: So yeah, you might feel good in the moment, but it's really cascading into a snowball effect, like a, this is just isn't working.
- 15:40Track 1: So, you know, I.
- 15:42Track 1: You brought up a good point where it's like, okay, what do I do?
- 15:44Track 1: How do I fill this gap?
- 15:45Track 1: I think it really encourages people to like find better coping mechanisms, find a better way to wind down at the end of the night, find a better way to maybe communicate with your partner, find a better way to, you know, facilitate relationships with people.
- 16:00Track 1: Like whatever it is that you kind of are using alcohol for, it kind of makes you find healthier alternatives,
- 16:09Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 16:10Track 1: is.
- 16:11Track 1: I mean, you're never gonna like not benefit from that,
- 16:14Baylee: and I'm sorry, but if, every time you're having a bad day, if every time something doesn't go right in your life and your answer is, I need to have a drink.
- 16:22Baylee: That might be why you keep having bad days, because like Brianna was saying, yeah, in the moment you might feel a little better, but that's because the alcohol is affecting your prefrontal cortex and it's affecting how your brain is working.
- 16:36Baylee: But wake up tomorrow, you still had that bad day and you did nothing about it.
- 16:41Baylee: So now we're carrying that bad energy into the next day and that's where I think the cycle can happen because.
- 16:50Baylee: I mean, we hear it all the time and I've even catch myself saying, we're like, I've had, I've had a day.
- 16:54Baylee: I need a drink.
- 16:55Baylee: You know?
- 16:56Track 1: it's in a day
- 16:57Baylee: Yeah.
- 16:58Baylee: But yeah, it's, when we really think about it, it's not doing anything for ourselves besides buffering the situation.
- 17:08Baylee: We're not elevating our life in any way.
- 17:10Baylee: We're not facing the problem head on.
- 17:13Baylee: I feel like this podcast is getting really deep and serious.
- 17:16Track 1: I know I'm
- 17:18Baylee: Well, we, it needs to be talked about.
- 17:21Track 1: It does, and it's something we as adults, we just, it's like our go-to.
- 17:26Track 1: We just do it.
- 17:26Track 1: And I think for a lot of us, we don't realize it.
- 17:29Track 1: We don't realize that we're doing this, and then it becomes a habit and it's like, well, now I just have my wine because it's what I do every night.
- 17:36Track 1: Or now I'm just, I order a drink because that's what I do when I go out.
- 17:40Track 1: And it kind of just, it's so easy for us to create habits.
- 17:45Track 1: And so I just feel like, you know, we talk about nutrition, that's our thing, but it's overall trying to better yourself.
- 17:53Track 1: It's like, it's like the whole package and I feel like if you came here because you're like, oh, I wanna know more about nutrition and this and that, well, then you have to talk about like, how do you cope?
- 18:02Track 1: How do you deal with stress?
- 18:03Track 1: How do you, you know, navigate relationships?
- 18:06Track 1: How do you feel in your body?
- 18:08Track 1: And alcohol plays a big part in that.
- 18:10Track 1: So,
- 18:10Baylee: definitely something that just needs to be discussed, and so we're here to help
- 18:16Track 1: Yeah.
- 18:17Baylee: I think it can be.
- 18:19Baylee: Well, I guess something that people don't like that I say is that alcohol is a habit.
- 18:24Baylee: It's not a lifeline.
- 18:26Baylee: Like you can live without having a drink every night.
- 18:30Baylee: And if you are feeling that way where you're like, I have to have a drink every night, or I'm not gonna sleep, or I have too much stress, or like, this is the only thing that calms my brain.
- 18:38Baylee: That's a huge sign that we need better coping mechanisms.
- 18:42Track 1: That you need to start drinking even more than somebody else, you know?
- 18:47Track 1: And so, While this might be like easier said than done, we are creatures of habit.
- 18:52Track 1: And if you are stuck in this habit, you're gonna kind of need to baby step your way out.
- 18:57Track 1: So something that could be really good to start this is like set your drinking boundaries or maybe figure out when am I gonna drink?
- 19:03Track 1: So if you're someone who's like, okay, I do wanna drink less, but I don't necessarily wanna just say no, no to alcohol entirely.
- 19:10Track 1: Figure out what's gonna work best for you.
- 19:12Track 1: I'm gonna be honest, it was a little bit easy for me in the beginning to be like, oh, I'm not gonna drink during the weekdays, because I knew like, okay, weekends I can do it.
- 19:20Track 1: And so for a while it was like, okay, weekends.
- 19:23Track 1: Weekends.
- 19:23Track 1: And then it got to a point where I was, having it less and less that when the weekend came, it was like, I really want that?
- 19:31Track 1: No.
- 19:32Track 1: Ok.
- 19:32Track 1: But it was a hard boundary that like, just because I skipped Saturday and Sunday or you know, Friday and Saturday doesn't mean I can just have it Monday.
- 19:39Track 1: Like my boundaries for my weekdays was like a hard boundary.
- 19:42Track 1: So if you are someone who's like, I wanna lessen it, but I don't wanna say goodbye to it, do the thing that your brain loves and reassure your brain, okay, you can have it these days.
- 19:54Track 1: This is when I'm gonna let myself have it type thing.
- 19:57Baylee: Yeah, and I kind of, I cut back similarly I started with not getting drinks when we would go out to dinner during the week because Josh and I would eat out so much for like, when we first started dating.
- 20:11Baylee: We just ate out all the time.
- 20:13Baylee: But, so that was the first boundary.
- 20:15Baylee: I said I just, I wouldn't grab a drink when we were going out on a Wednesday night for dinner.
- 20:20Baylee: And then I switched it to not on weeknights.
- 20:23Baylee: I mean, yeah, there are some weeknights but it's not part of my routine anymore.
- 20:29Baylee: And then, yeah, like you were saying, eventually it just comes to a point where you're maybe just don't want it.
- 20:36Baylee: And I feel like, again, that can be such a foreign concept sometimes, and this can kind of go with any of the habits that we have, even talking about.
- 20:44Baylee: Like a nightly dessert if you're used to having dessert every night after dinner.
- 20:48Baylee: And if you work on adjusting that type of routine, you might realize that that's just a habit and get to a point where you don't really want it.
- 20:56Baylee: So I would say my next tip there is not having alcohol as part of your grocery list.
- 21:02Baylee: Like I've seen sometimes where people, like literally beer is part of buying on their daily groceries or whatever it is that you drink.
- 21:10Baylee: Just not having it as your groceries and then it's just not always there and available.
- 21:14Baylee: Makes it easier.
- 21:16Track 1: and then breaking the rules.
- 21:17Track 1: So like if you're someone who associates poolside equals cocktail or concert equals, beers or going out equals a cocktail, whatever that is, break that rule.
- 21:29Track 1: Cuz sometimes it's that second nature like, oh, we're heading to the pool.
- 21:32Track 1: Grab the cooler we're heading to here, grab, you know, break that rule.
- 21:36Track 1: You don't have to have it, it doesn't have to be associated with it, you know, sort of thing.
- 21:42Track 1: I will say it does get so much easier, In the beginning, it's gonna feel like you're giving yourself a lot of boundaries.
- 21:49Track 1: It's gonna maybe feel like you're giving yourself some rules.
- 21:51Track 1: Again, this is why it's really important to go back to your why behind wanting to decrease drinking, cuz that's really what you're gonna fall back on when you are like, okay, but I do want this.
- 22:00Track 1: Okay, think about why you're deciding to drink less.
- 22:04Track 1: But over time, when you make it less of a habit and you find better ways to cope and better ways to de-stress, you'll find, like me, I don't have the whole weeknight rule anymore.
- 22:14Track 1: I don't really need it.
- 22:15Track 1: You know?
- 22:16Track 1: And yeah, I mean, if there's gonna be times like maybe I'm going out to dinner and I do want one, whatever, if I do okay, I get it.
- 22:22Track 1: But I can tell you that that's way less.
- 22:25Track 1: And then the amount that I drink is way less too.
- 22:28Baylee: Yes.
- 22:29Track 1: like two or three drinks, I'm just like, oh, I'm gonna order a glass of wine and then I'm fine with it.
- 22:33Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 22:34Track 1: So if you're someone who's like, I don't know if that could ever be me, it can baby steps.
- 22:40Track 1: And you're really, I love that you brought up like, oh, pay attention to how you feel cuz that's gonna help you keep going.
- 22:47Baylee: Yeah, I did forget one step of my process of how I started cutting back too.
- 22:52Baylee: You kind of reminded me of that was I stopped drinking alone, and that was when I realized how crappy my coping mechanisms were because it was, I was like drinking alone because I was bored, or I was stressed out, or I was sad, or.
- 23:09Baylee: You know, like all these reasons, I just didn't want to deal with things and so I drank alone and I didn't wanna do that anymore.
- 23:17Baylee: So that was also another part of setting boundaries.
- 23:20Baylee: I don't ever drink by myself.
- 23:22Track 1: That's a good one.
- 23:23Track 1: That's a good one.
- 23:24Track 1: I, I could have benefited from that.
- 23:27Baylee: Yeah, and you, you really learn to just hang out by yourself and learn your feelings.
- 23:33Baylee: Learn again, those coping mechanisms.
- 23:36Baylee: Learn what you truly need in that moment.
- 23:39Baylee: If it was like relaxation, I was looking for, alcohol wasn't doing that for me.
- 23:45Baylee: You really learn a lot about yourself when you take time to just figure things out.
- 23:51Track 1: I agree cuz that's, that's not it.
- 23:53Track 1: But it is such an easy go-to and it is so glamorized.
- 23:56Track 1: And then you look at, most of the shows that we watch, all of it, I mean, it just has alcohol.
- 24:00Track 1: So it's just such a normal staple where it's almost weird if you're not drinking.
- 24:03Track 1: But it shouldn't even be a thing that anyone pays attention to.
- 24:07Baylee: Yeah.
- 24:07Baylee: Or people think you're pregnant if you're not.
- 24:09Track 1: Yeah.
- 24:11Track 1: Okay.
- 24:11Track 1: As soon as you sit down, like if you're someone who's around like that age, it could be a thing.
- 24:15Track 1: That's the first question people are gonna ask.
- 24:18Track 1: I mean, I've done it, to like my close friends, like, oh, you're pregnant, you're they're not.
- 24:23Track 1: But you know,
- 24:25Baylee: Yes.
- 24:26Track 1: but yeah, so I mean, With all things.
- 24:29Track 1: You gotta find a balance.
- 24:31Track 1: You know?
- 24:31Track 1: Like if you just, or know, Hey, I'm someone, I actually do enjoy alcohol.
- 24:35Track 1: I know, like, I'm just gonna have it.
- 24:37Track 1: I, I know it's not gonna be a no for everything.
- 24:39Track 1: Okay.
- 24:39Track 1: Then you don't need to write it off forever.
- 24:41Track 1: But finding a balance can be really helpful.
- 24:43Track 1: And hopefully this helps.
- 24:45Track 1: I mean, I know Bailey and I, neither of us are like sober.
- 24:48Track 1: You know, we will have alcohol.
- 24:49Baylee: mean right now, today we are
- 24:52Track 1: Yeah.
- 24:52Track 1: I mean right now we're sober.
- 24:53Track 1: Yeah.
- 24:54Track 1: So you know, but I mean, we're not like, oh, absolutely zero alcohol.
- 24:58Track 1: It's just something that you, I don't know.
- 25:01Track 1: I think it's a really good sign of maturity and good mental health and like just trying to better yourself as a human and you know, you wanna fill your best and be your best.
- 25:10Track 1: Just finding that balance, and again, no one's perfect, but hopefully you could just learn to have better balance.
- 25:17Baylee: Yes.
- 25:18Baylee: Yeah.
- 25:18Track 1: can be less controlling.
- 25:20Baylee: Mm-hmm.
- 25:21Baylee: Yeah.
- 25:22Baylee: So, yeah, closing this out, I would say it might be hard, it might be awkward to kind of cut back on alcohol and figure out this new world almost, of what does it look like to hang out with yourself.
- 25:35Baylee: What does it look like to have a water instead of vodka and water, you know?
- 25:42Baylee: It.
- 25:42Baylee: It could be really hard.
- 25:43Baylee: It can be an adjustment, but I will throw this out there.
- 25:47Baylee: If you want support, feel free to message us on Instagram.
- 25:51Baylee: We will talk you through it.

- 26:03Baylee: And everyone that I've talked to that's used to like the nightly wine, they.
- 26:07Baylee: They've noticed a difference because you don't know how bad you're feeling until you get to feel good again.
- 26:13Track 1: Yeah.
- 26:13Track 1: And you don't really know how much alcohol plays into how you're feeling.
- 26:17Track 1: Until you cut it out.
- 26:18Track 1: I've seen people who are like, I need to go on an elimination diet.
- 26:21Track 1: I need to do this, I need to do that.
- 26:23Track 1: I'm like, but they don't even think about
- 26:25Baylee: Yeah.
- 26:26Track 1: Let's start there.
- 26:27Track 1: It's a toxin.
- 26:28Track 1: You know?
- 26:28Track 1: There's nothing
- 26:29Baylee: It's literally toxic to your body.
- 26:31Track 1: nothing actually beneficial for about alcohol.
- 26:33Track 1: You know, So hopefully this helps you guys.
- 26:35Track 1: Let us know.
- 26:36Track 1: I mean, we are, we do have a couple of episodes coming out that kind of, you know, tell you how to have fun with alcohol and like, you know, alcohols to maybe choose over others, whatever.
- 26:46Track 1: So we understand that, but we're just hoping that we kind of, you know, drop this little,
- 26:49Baylee: mm-hmm.
- 26:50Track 1: little thing in your brain that gets you thinking about it.
- 26:52Baylee: Yeah, in this episode, I mean, it was a little bit more serious than episodes we've had.
- 26:58Baylee: And with all this being said, like if you do feel like you have a drinking problem, you're really struggling, definitely please go get help.

- 27:13Baylee: There's a lot of different resources available if you were having maybe an alcohol addiction or Yeah.
- 27:20Track 1: absolutely.
- 27:20Track 1: There's nothing shameful about getting help with that,
- 27:23Baylee: All right.
- 27:24Baylee: We hope this was helpful to you guys.
- 27:27Baylee: If you, Found it to be helpful.
- 27:29Baylee: Share your favorite tip, send it to a friend, and next week we're gonna lighten it up with our two special men guests,
