- 1:29Speaker 3: about what happens to the money you've already paid when

- 1:49Speaker 3: Miss Beggs say, ed, could you share with us the
- 1:52Speaker 3: five star review you picked out to read on the show.

- 2:21Speaker 3: here for it.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Jess, what have you picked out this week?
- 2:23Speaker 5: I've got one from Chu Kwan who said I found
- 2:27Speaker 5: this one incidentally and I'm now hooked onto. It so relatable,
- 2:31Speaker 5: very helpful, supportive and informative podcast about money by women
- 2:35Speaker 5: for women, presented in a fun and enjoyable format.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I love that makes fun, which is something that I
- 2:41Speaker 3: never thought I would say, Like, let's be honest, go
- 2:44Speaker 3: back like ten years, hey e, you're going to work
- 2:46Speaker 3: in finance and.
- 2:47Speaker 4: You're gonna make it fun.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I'd be like, I can't think of anything worse, So
- 2:50Speaker 3: thank you anyway, look at us now, all right, I
- 2:55Speaker 3: have one and it is from Fari.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So Fari has said I have bingeen to.
- 3:00Speaker 3: She's on the Money podcasts for years now, and it
- 3:03Speaker 3: keeps me consistently coming back. Victoria is truly passionate about
- 3:07Speaker 3: financial literacy, and every word she utters sounds genuine.
- 3:10Speaker 2: It is sometimes unhinged.
- 3:14Speaker 3: I love Jessie humor and independent thoughts. Bex liight bulb
- 3:18Speaker 3: moments are the cutest. The diversity of the interviews is.
- 3:22Speaker 4: A very strong point.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I'm not ashamed to admit that your podcast in books
- 3:25Speaker 3: have changed my life. Fee keep up the great work, ladies,
- 3:28Speaker 3: and thank you for your weekly shows.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's a cute, sweet little bold moments.
- 3:35Speaker 3: But it's so true, Like my one of my favorite
- 3:37Speaker 3: things about this show is when I'm explaining something in
- 3:39Speaker 3: a deep dipe tune, you go, oh, yes.
- 3:43Speaker 2: So you get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, because.
- 3:46Speaker 3: We all knew that you didn't read the script before
- 3:48Speaker 3: we record it, absolutely not.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Was it in your inbox?
- 3:52Speaker 4: Yes?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yes, did you read it?
- 3:54Speaker 3: No?
- 3:54Speaker 4: But I mean, yollow, you do what you can do.
- 3:57Speaker 6: I just want I just want to hear it from
- 3:59Speaker 6: the horse's mouth.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That's that's fair. That's fair.
- 4:02Speaker 4: And Jess, I mean someone thinks so funny.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I will take that because I say to you guys all.
- 4:07Speaker 5: You're like, I'm not funny. I can't say funny. I'm
- 4:09Speaker 5: not a funny person, so that are always funny. But
- 4:14Speaker 5: that just made it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: This can be the woman fuzzy, easy guy.
- 4:17Speaker 4: I think it's so funny.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And I didn't point out, oh, someone thinks it funny, Jess,
- 4:20Speaker 3: because I'm being mean. I'm literally like Jess always says
- 4:22Speaker 3: I'm not funny because I'm always like, why are you
- 4:25Speaker 3: so funny?
- 4:26Speaker 2: In the background, she'll say stuffy.
- 4:27Speaker 3: She's a bit more reserved on the show because she's like, oh,
- 4:30Speaker 3: I don't want to seem silly, Jess, just crack her.
- 4:34Speaker 2: She is like she's a silly goose.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, she actually a silly goose. All right, Jess, what
- 4:41Speaker 3: have you got when it comes to money wins and
- 4:43Speaker 3: convensions from the community this week?
- 4:45Speaker 5: There were so many good ones this week on the thread.
- 4:47Speaker 5: You guys, you should definitely if anyone's listening and it
- 4:49Speaker 5: hasn't read it, you.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Should go have a look.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Because I have so many that I screenshoted it. I'm
- 4:53Speaker 5: like rapid fire, Right, what have we got? Firstly, I've
- 4:56Speaker 5: got one from Chantelle said money win. Last week, I
- 4:58Speaker 5: took up uber each having on the weekends when my
- 5:01Speaker 5: kids are with their dad so it can stop myself
- 5:03Speaker 5: from doing the social media doom scroll and get out
- 5:06Speaker 5: of the crappy dating scene. We've been there, and she said, Plus,
- 5:09Speaker 5: I'm saving the money to get my kids to FEEDI
- 5:11Speaker 5: next year to celebrate me turning.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Forty queen behavior and I love.
- 5:17Speaker 5: I always forget that you can just pick up like
- 5:19Speaker 5: an uber e. It's or something like if times are tough,
- 5:21Speaker 5: it's not a commitment, right, like you just do it when.
- 5:23Speaker 3: It suits, and like, how good that you've got some flexibility.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I know that, Like obviously most people don't go into
- 5:29Speaker 3: a relationship, have a kid with the idea that you'll
- 5:31Speaker 3: co parent one day. But like, I love the idea
- 5:33Speaker 3: that you're using the time where your kids are away
- 5:36Speaker 3: to really help you financially and put you in the
- 5:39Speaker 3: best possible position because it means that when your kids
- 5:41Speaker 3: with you, you can spend more.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Quality time with them.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Like, isn't that cute?
- 5:44Speaker 5: Yeah, chantale. Next, I've got one from Riley, who said
- 5:48Speaker 5: money win. We did our frozen embryo transfer and paid
- 5:51Speaker 5: one nine hundred and eighty five dollars out of pocket,
- 5:54Speaker 5: but turns out we got one thousand, six hundred and
- 5:56Speaker 5: forty two dollars back thanks to Medicare redates.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Cool, but it really so cheap.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I didn't realize.
- 6:02Speaker 5: I mean, I'm sure there's probably lots of other bits
- 6:04Speaker 5: and pieces she had to do and pay. Sure, but
- 6:06Speaker 5: that's a great thing from rebates. I didn't realize it
- 6:09Speaker 5: was such a significant coverage.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Also sending all of the sticky baby love. Yes, that
- 6:14Speaker 4: is a very sticky baby.
- 6:15Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money went from Sarah who said,
- 6:19Speaker 5: I'm in love with the Stanley cup aesthetic, but I'm
- 6:22Speaker 5: terrible with drink bottles. And didn't want to waste the
- 6:24Speaker 5: money if I ended up hating it, and she hashtagged
- 6:27Speaker 5: I don't even know how to say AUDHD life like AUDHD,
- 6:30Speaker 5: life like.
- 6:32Speaker 2: The combo. Yeah, and also hashtag drink goblin, which made
- 6:35Speaker 2: me giggle.
- 6:37Speaker 4: You're a drink goblin, aren't you?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Jess? Absolutely, I just has.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Her Stanley cup and like it's a full aesthetic Like
- 6:43Speaker 3: last year for Christmas, Jess bought me because I also
- 6:46Speaker 3: have a Stanley cup. Just bought me a little like
- 6:49Speaker 3: gadget that goes on the top of my Stanley cup
- 6:51Speaker 3: that I can keep my snacks in.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Oh, that's it's really so cute.
- 6:55Speaker 6: Not drinking.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Water, she is a hydrated. But Sarah said she got
- 7:03Speaker 2: a dup from kmart.
- 7:04Speaker 5: It was only fifteen dollars and she's in her hot
- 7:07Speaker 5: car all day.
- 7:08Speaker 2: She loved it.
- 7:08Speaker 5: It still had icy in it twenty four hours after
- 7:10Speaker 5: feeling it. Oh wow, So if you don't feel like
- 7:12Speaker 5: dropping what is that like sixty bucks or something on
- 7:14Speaker 5: a Stanley.
- 7:14Speaker 3: More than sixty our Oh and also like we just
- 7:18Speaker 3: needed to wait a little bit of time and then
- 7:21Speaker 3: Camart came through with the goods.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Like I saw those I'm always in Kmar.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I didn't buy it because I was like, I already
- 7:27Speaker 3: have one, but I was looking at them. They're identical,
- 7:30Speaker 3: except they just don't have the logo, like someone is
- 7:32Speaker 3: mass producing them and importing them and like I'm here
- 7:35Speaker 3: for it.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Yeah, fifteen dollars, you can't go wrong. Next, I've got
- 7:38Speaker 5: money in from Danielle, who said she was preparing for
- 7:41Speaker 5: Matt leave and she read a comment on an old
- 7:43Speaker 5: Facebook post in a group that said to contact your
- 7:45Speaker 5: super fund because they might be able to pause the
- 7:48Speaker 5: fees for the period that you're on materially. So she
- 7:50Speaker 5: checked in with her super fund and turns out they do,
- 7:53Speaker 5: in fact do it. She just needed her work to
- 7:54Speaker 5: do some paperwork for her. But she's really happy because
- 7:57Speaker 5: her super was about to crack one hundred K and
- 8:00Speaker 5: didn't want to slip back under with fees while she's
- 8:01Speaker 5: not with Cool.
- 8:03Speaker 2: So you go. If you're going on Matt Lee.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I love that.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Also, maybe start talking to your partner, if you have
- 8:08Speaker 3: a partner and you're going through the you know, Matt
- 8:10Speaker 3: leave journey, about splitting some super ross into your account
- 8:15Speaker 3: so that you don't go backwards.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Yes, that could be a very attractive conversation.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Absolutely could be funny. We love to see it.
- 8:22Speaker 5: Next, I've got a money in from Natasha, who said,
- 8:24Speaker 5: because it's officially Christmas season, Queen, I've been looking for
- 8:27Speaker 5: a big bow to go on my front door.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Which this is a very like this is in your area.
- 8:33Speaker 3: But also this is so relevant because Jess, I've been
- 8:35Speaker 3: sending you videos of people decorating their houses and putting
- 8:39Speaker 3: bows on their doors on every platform. I see this
- 8:43Speaker 3: Instagram video, see this TikTok video or YouTube shorts. Hey, Jess,
- 8:46Speaker 3: look at this video of people putting bows on things.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Everything in my house will in fact be covered with bows.
- 8:51Speaker 5: And Natasha said she originally was looking for the big
- 8:54Speaker 5: red door ones you guy's probably seen. They're like forty
- 8:57Speaker 5: five to seventy dollars on Amazon, and then she went
- 8:59Speaker 5: to the rejection and they had the same style for
- 9:01Speaker 5: twenty ducks.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And you're going to put one on your door? I think,
- 9:04Speaker 2: so front door. I feel like it's very cute.
- 9:06Speaker 6: It is cute too, It's like your house of the present. Yeah, okay,
- 9:11Speaker 6: and maybe not, that's maybe not.
- 9:12Speaker 2: What the vibe is.
- 9:13Speaker 3: That's yeah, you like wrap your front door it's really cute.
- 9:19Speaker 5: I did, in fact put a picture in the group
- 9:20Speaker 5: so you can see the musum in for you.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Oh God, like that. Oh that's very cute. The door
- 9:27Speaker 2: is in and it's.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Like chul as well. It looks like one of the
- 9:30Speaker 4: really nice ones is really expensive.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Because I was at Spotlight the other day because I
- 9:34Speaker 3: am actually in my like home crafting era. Of course,
- 9:37Speaker 3: I didn't realize this was going to come back out
- 9:42Speaker 3: because like when I was younger, I used.
- 9:43Speaker 4: To do a lot of like I was really cool, so.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Just debating, of course, stating team captain, did athletics, all
- 9:50Speaker 3: of those things. But I used to when I was
- 9:54Speaker 3: sixteen be really into embroidery, so I'd make lots of things.
- 9:58Speaker 3: And now I have a baby and it's coming into
- 10:00Speaker 3: Christmas season, I'm like, oh my god, like I want
- 10:04Speaker 3: to make him everything. So I'm currently making him Santa
- 10:07Speaker 3: sac and like I'm embroidering a couple of like T
- 10:10Speaker 3: shirts for Christmas, so he's got like little Christmas T shirts.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Like I just I have this overwhelming urge to make
- 10:17Speaker 3: things for my child and decorate my house more obnoxiously.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Than I ever have before.
- 10:22Speaker 3: But ChIL At spotlight incredibly expensive, so that's actually a
- 10:26Speaker 3: really good deal to me.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Go, I'm exad to see how all your little crafties
- 10:30Speaker 5: turn out. I can't wait.
- 10:31Speaker 3: She'll come over because like, my partner doesn't care that
- 10:33Speaker 3: much about putting the Christmas.
- 10:36Speaker 4: Right exactly exactly.
- 10:38Speaker 3: So again, my fill in partner just comes over, yes,
- 10:42Speaker 3: and we drink cocktails, festive cocktails.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Listen, what did we have last year? We had cranberry?
- 10:50Speaker 2: There was something red.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah, we had cranberry, I think Martini's or something. And
- 10:55Speaker 3: we played Christmas music and we put my tree up
- 10:58Speaker 3: and we danced with our cat or sorry, my cats,
- 11:01Speaker 3: her cat kind of and we addressed the pets up.
- 11:04Speaker 3: And then my husband came home and was like, what are.
- 11:05Speaker 4: You two doing?
- 11:06Speaker 2: And we were get.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Out, get out, I can't wait. We looked at him like,
- 11:15Speaker 3: you know, stunned DearS, being like, what have you.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Come across Alpha?
- 11:22Speaker 6: Oh my god, that's so cute.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I have two more money been sorry.
- 11:27Speaker 5: One from Leah who said she's been saving her Flyboys
- 11:30Speaker 5: points for a new barbecue and she claimed it yesterday.
- 11:32Speaker 5: So she had a whole barbecue from Bunnings because she
- 11:35Speaker 5: exchanged the points for Bunnings vouchers picked it up. It's
- 11:38Speaker 5: like a big fancy one. Look, we love a photo.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I love a photo like I feel like pet Taxi
- 11:46Speaker 3: is really good. Obviously that will continue to be a
- 11:48Speaker 3: rule in our group. But also show me what you
- 11:51Speaker 3: have to It feels like group chat. Yeah, oh you
- 11:54Speaker 3: got a new barbecue. I want to see it.
- 11:56Speaker 5: Don't just tell me you too, So redeem those points
- 11:59Speaker 5: if you can, and lotstly coming into Christmas, maybe you
- 12:02Speaker 5: could try and redeem some points at Christmas time to
- 12:05Speaker 5: use for presents.
- 12:07Speaker 2: They'd dealt with.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Cards and stuff, which I think makes it a lot easier. Lastly,
- 12:11Speaker 5: this week, I've got my name from Kerry, which I'm
- 12:12Speaker 5: going to look into this because I'm doing.
- 12:15Speaker 2: This, She said.
- 12:15Speaker 5: She downgraded her Apple iCloud subscription, which is normally fourteen
- 12:19Speaker 5: ninety nine, which is I know what I pay to
- 12:21Speaker 5: five dollars. She said, I took screenshots because the whole
- 12:25Speaker 5: process was difficult to downgrade, and she thinks this is
- 12:28Speaker 5: intentional to make it like hard cool to get it cheaper. Yes,
- 12:31Speaker 5: and then apparently they charged at the old price and
- 12:33Speaker 5: she had to email them to say hey, like I
- 12:34Speaker 5: dowbn it was a whole thing, but they canceled it.
- 12:37Speaker 5: They issued the refund, and she says, if you adjust
- 12:39Speaker 5: your pricing for the year. She managed to resubscribe to
- 12:43Speaker 5: the one ninety nine a month, so she only pays
- 12:46Speaker 5: like twenty four.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Bucks for the hour instead of one hundred and eighty.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Oh that's great, so good, that's worthy saving. The muck
- 12:51Speaker 3: around shouldn't exist, but that is worth putting the work in. Absolutely,
- 12:54Speaker 3: And yeah, Kerry said, just wanted to let everyone know.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Check your subscription, see if you can downgrade.
- 12:58Speaker 2: So everybody this weekend, that's what we're all doing.
- 13:01Speaker 4: That's what we're all doing.
- 13:02Speaker 3: And we're canceling out our Netflix or our stand that
- 13:05Speaker 3: we don't actually use.
- 13:06Speaker 6: I can go to seven ninety nine.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Version.
- 13:10Speaker 3: And I am so mad that they are charging many
- 13:15Speaker 3: If you're having ads on your show, your show should
- 13:18Speaker 3: be free.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, well, love, it doesn't.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I'll be watching Free to Wear.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Is it less frequent than TV ads? Yes, that's the thing.
- 13:25Speaker 6: It's actually not that bad.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's also like one ad every movie. Sorry.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's also because we're in Australia, so like
- 13:31Speaker 3: not that many advertisers, No, not that many advertisers have
- 13:35Speaker 3: got Netflix advertising yet, and obviously if you're like a
- 13:38Speaker 3: Telco company, we're not going to have a T and
- 13:40Speaker 3: TV advertised here. So like in America, I've heard when
- 13:44Speaker 3: I say I've heard I've watched a TikTok, we all
- 13:45Speaker 3: do that right, Like, oh my god, I was reading
- 13:47Speaker 3: something the other day. No, Victoria, you're on TikTok. You
- 13:50Speaker 3: just chronically online and you're trying to downplay that. I
- 13:52Speaker 3: was watching TikTok's about how the American Netflix is really
- 13:55Speaker 3: addy but ours kind of gotten away.
- 13:58Speaker 4: A little bit's got free for now.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Absolutely like that Jess or that job.
- 14:03Speaker 5: But there you go.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Jess is going to update her Christmas door, She's going
- 14:07Speaker 3: to look into her fly Bys points, she's going to
- 14:08Speaker 3: downgrade her Apple, like do you start driving?
- 14:12Speaker 4: Like I feel like there's so much.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Genuinely and thinking about it.
- 14:15Speaker 2: That's a fantastic idea.
- 14:17Speaker 3: I feel like this was a very ess list of
- 14:20Speaker 3: the Stanley Cup. Like, honestly, Beck, what have you got
- 14:24Speaker 3: when it comes to broke tips?
- 14:25Speaker 2: Okay, just really quickly on the subscription thing. If anyone's listening,
- 14:28Speaker 2: could tell me I have a one dollar forty nine
- 14:30Speaker 2: charge from Apple that constantly comes out no matter if
- 14:32Speaker 2: I create a new account, I don't still have it
- 14:35Speaker 2: Apple anything. You have a MacBook, You have a MacBook
- 14:39Speaker 2: that's a work one dragon that still counts. I don't
- 14:41Speaker 2: know every single account I've ever created without putting any
- 14:44Speaker 2: details in an Apple charge.
- 14:47Speaker 6: I don't know how it's happening.
- 14:47Speaker 2: But anyway, if anyone is listening and knows the answer.
- 14:50Speaker 5: We don't know the you know what?
- 14:52Speaker 4: You could do?
- 14:53Speaker 2: Email Apple?
- 14:54Speaker 6: Oh you know, I don't really like life.
- 14:56Speaker 7: You know what?
- 14:57Speaker 3: You ask one point eight million people on the Sheet's
- 15:00Speaker 3: on the Money podcast instead of one email to someone
- 15:02Speaker 3: who actually knows you, do you boom?
- 15:06Speaker 7: But I'll try.
- 15:07Speaker 6: I'll try.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Okay, So this first one comes from one of our
- 15:11Speaker 2: listeners and they send me a TikTok. That's basically, you know,
- 15:15Speaker 2: if you have like any some resource, yes, you know,
- 15:19Speaker 2: have different ones for that you can propagate.
- 15:21Speaker 3: There's ways to like make it last longer. Yeahapagating herbs
- 15:26Speaker 3: at the moment. Yeah, I think it's a fantastic idea.
- 15:28Speaker 2: You can deal it with basically any anything that comes
- 15:31Speaker 2: from the ground, right.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Are also sorry sidetrack completely. I am in my local
- 15:36Speaker 3: Facebook group for my postcode, which is obviously very niche
- 15:40Speaker 3: I know you you know, like I mean, people the
- 15:45Speaker 3: other day were posting where are herbs and they were
- 15:49Speaker 3: like on on Berkley Street there are a few, you know,
- 15:52Speaker 3: rosemary bushes and whatnot. Check your Facebook group and if
- 15:55Speaker 3: the Facebook group doesn't have it, ask because so many
- 15:58Speaker 3: people have like free herb in their front garden and
- 16:01Speaker 3: coming up to Christmas, don't spend four dollars on a
- 16:04Speaker 3: packet of rosemary. Yes, like we all know that you're
- 16:07Speaker 3: probably going to need to because your last minute, but
- 16:11Speaker 3: have a look around, have a forage, have a forage. Yeah,
- 16:14Speaker 3: it's actually fantastic.
- 16:15Speaker 4: Do you know what my best hip is?
- 16:17Speaker 3: What if you're going to pick the rosemary, are you
- 16:20Speaker 3: going to pick any type of herb that has been
- 16:23Speaker 3: like free range?
- 16:25Speaker 4: Is that the right word.
- 16:26Speaker 2: I don't know, you know, just make sure it's.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Above dog pea heights.
- 16:33Speaker 6: Fantastic.
- 16:34Speaker 2: It's a great point.
- 16:35Speaker 4: It's a great point.
- 16:37Speaker 2: And like dude, yeah, like drunken male, yes, yeah, like
- 16:43Speaker 2: above whiz level.
- 16:46Speaker 3: So that's my tip for today. Sorry for the side tracking,
- 16:49Speaker 3: but yes, propagate your plants.
- 16:51Speaker 6: That's actually a great one.
- 16:52Speaker 2: And check your yes, check your local community page if
- 16:55Speaker 2: you have one, if you're part of one, and.
- 16:56Speaker 3: If you're going to do sorry, I'm a plants lady
- 16:57Speaker 3: as well embroidery plants lady.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I'm just in a wholesome error. Yeah, anyway, it's so cute.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 17:03Speaker 3: If you get mint, you just strip off the bottom
- 17:05Speaker 3: leaves and chuck it in a cup of water.
- 17:07Speaker 7: That's it.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 17:08Speaker 4: And mine already have little tentacles.
- 17:10Speaker 2: There you go.
- 17:11Speaker 4: They're called roots, but tentacles.
- 17:13Speaker 2: They do look a bit spooky for the first few months.
- 17:14Speaker 2: But okay, so this one is similar to that. But
- 17:17Speaker 2: the TikTok showed someone putting a bunch of herbs in
- 17:21Speaker 2: like a little mason jar with water, and then putting
- 17:24Speaker 2: a larger mason jar on top. And then this doesn't
- 17:28Speaker 2: make sense right now, but you put the lid on
- 17:32Speaker 2: the bench, you put the little mason jar on top
- 17:36Speaker 2: of the lid and with water with the bunch, and
- 17:38Speaker 2: then you put the bigger mason jar on top. You
- 17:40Speaker 2: screw it together so like a snow globe exactly, so
- 17:44Speaker 2: it's like air tight sealed and mason jar to make
- 17:49Speaker 2: it last longer. I think in the fridge or whatever.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Your herbs in the fridge and it dies in.
- 17:54Speaker 4: Honestly, that sounds so complicated that I prefer my homes to.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Promise.
- 18:00Speaker 6: I've made it sound way, way, way more.
- 18:02Speaker 2: But that's a good tip. What's your next one? Okay,
- 18:04Speaker 2: the next one come from actually a friend of mine
- 18:06Speaker 2: who I do this too. I know it's a bit cheeky,
- 18:08Speaker 2: but if you're going away, if you're going to like
- 18:10Speaker 2: stay to hotel or go into a restaurant called the
- 18:12Speaker 2: tiny toilet trees, you can take the tiny toiletrees your
- 18:15Speaker 2: bags full of them from every time.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I basically just please chip it upside into my luggage
- 18:22Speaker 3: if you're not allowed. That's honestly, if you're not taking
- 18:24Speaker 3: the tiny toilet trees when you stay out a hotel, No,
- 18:32Speaker 3: you're not taking the tiny toilet trees. You probably live
- 18:35Speaker 3: a far more privileged life than any of us at AH,
- 18:38Speaker 3: but you need the tiny toilet trees.
- 18:39Speaker 2: You've never had to buy an aail file or a
- 18:41Speaker 2: shower cap.
- 18:42Speaker 6: True, I mean yeah, I guess they just throw them out.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Sometimes I feel so bougie when I steal the toothbrushes,
- 18:47Speaker 3: because then if I have friends stay over I'm like toothbrush.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a flex when you're like, oh, I actually
- 18:53Speaker 2: have a speared tooth.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's like a hotel one and you get
- 18:55Speaker 3: it in the box and you get the tiny toothpaste.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Oh my god, you got your life together exactly.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Of course, I'm meant thief.
- 19:02Speaker 6: But on the set in the same vein as that
- 19:05Speaker 6: kind of thing.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I think, if you're going to get to a restaurant
- 19:08Speaker 2: or a hotel whatever, if you mentioned that it's like
- 19:10Speaker 2: an anniversary or a birthday, things like that or whatever
- 19:14Speaker 2: it is you. I mean, this has happened to me
- 19:16Speaker 2: a couple of times. Okay, yes, we walked into me
- 19:20Speaker 2: and my best friendly have stated the soft tail for
- 19:22Speaker 2: no reason. We just had a bunch of money one
- 19:24Speaker 2: day and were like, let's just go crazy as we
- 19:26Speaker 2: say the soft tail. We told them that we were
- 19:27Speaker 2: dating into our anniversary. We got bottle of champagne. We
- 19:30Speaker 2: got macaroons, macaroons that we call them all macaroons and macarons,
- 19:37Speaker 2: the circle caron French ones, and the macaroons they actually
- 19:42Speaker 2: coconut based. Oh that's try it. Yes, not, they're delicious
- 19:46Speaker 2: coconut ones. The other ones and.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Macaroon.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Oh well, now that's as hurting macaron.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Everyone's already stopped listening.
- 19:59Speaker 6: By guys. If you're still here, thank you so much.
- 20:02Speaker 2: But yeah, I just I'll just say, you know, throw
- 20:04Speaker 2: it in there, just say it's an anniversary, a birthday.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Will see whatever.
- 20:07Speaker 5: Just remember if you go to the same place multiple times,
- 20:09Speaker 5: they might put like a note on your file.
- 20:11Speaker 2: So that's true.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Yes, just switch up your hotels and hotels all the
- 20:16Speaker 3: time for the free champagne.
- 20:17Speaker 4: You're probably can afford the shit pain.
- 20:19Speaker 2: True, that's true.
- 20:21Speaker 6: That's true. So maybe if you have enough money to
- 20:23Speaker 6: be going to these places, don't be doing it.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Just kidding you can still.
- 20:25Speaker 3: But also I find it low key embarrassing at restaurants
- 20:28Speaker 3: if they know it's my birthday and they come across.
- 20:31Speaker 3: So like, if anybody goes to lunch with me and
- 20:34Speaker 3: it's my birthday, I will actually find you and I
- 20:37Speaker 3: will harm you.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I love it. Everyone looks like everyone's attention For a second.
- 20:46Speaker 3: I was at dinner the other night celebrating our actual
- 20:49Speaker 3: like my wedding anniversary with my husband a couple of
- 20:51Speaker 3: weeks ago, and it happened to a table like they
- 20:54Speaker 3: were having a birthday, and like the waiters were like
- 20:57Speaker 3: clapping in the air, and all the other tables got involve, don't.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I just had secondhand embarrassment. I was like, I'm so
- 21:02Speaker 3: glad that when we booked we didn't tell anybody why
- 21:05Speaker 3: we were coming. And when they when they were like, oh,
- 21:07Speaker 3: are you celebrating anything special? When we walked in, I
- 21:09Speaker 3: was like, Nah, can't we just come here all the
- 21:11Speaker 3: time with my brother? Yeah, we're coming for a pub?
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly, what's yours mind's bit of it like
- 21:21Speaker 2: a money win but also like a broke tip. But
- 21:23Speaker 2: it's all it's kind of common knowledge anyway. So I
- 21:25Speaker 2: bought these like sashets sashets from woods. You can also
- 21:29Speaker 2: get really good ones Frowndy. You know, there's like cappuccino
- 21:31Speaker 2: ones minimal like minimal sugar, like if not you know,
- 21:35Speaker 2: I sugar personally, but if you're like conscious of that,
- 21:39Speaker 2: we can't get the ones. It's just like a little
- 21:42Speaker 2: bit milky, a little bit coffee, you know, just they're.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Full of like palm oil. But you just don't think
- 21:47Speaker 3: about it too. I don't know, but I just start
- 21:50Speaker 3: out of mind. Yeah, exactly, Like they're good for the.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Soul, totally, totally, but I would say, yeah, if you can,
- 21:56Speaker 2: hopefully you can find an ethical one that's sourced.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, I doesn't even talk about ethics.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I'm talking about you're healthier to fix, sure, but like
- 22:04Speaker 3: they're probably just full of trash.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Hey, that's okay. Basically what I do is I every
- 22:09Speaker 2: time I make myself one of those, I put my
- 22:12Speaker 2: soy milk. I got those little like you know, there's
- 22:13Speaker 2: one dollar like the buzzers.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Yeah, the but of those, that's exactly how I.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Do it too, Yes, and you just froth your your
- 22:19Speaker 2: milk like that and it actually turns out pretty similar.
- 22:21Speaker 2: So every time I do that, because it's like ten
- 22:23Speaker 2: pack for five bucks, it's.
- 22:27Speaker 4: They often go on sale.
- 22:29Speaker 2: They do often go on sale, and they actually taste
- 22:31Speaker 2: really delicious.
- 22:32Speaker 3: My favorite is I think it's is it Nest Cafe,
- 22:34Speaker 3: but they have a milky bar one, so it's coffee.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I told you I don't pick the healthy ones, butter delicious.
- 22:42Speaker 2: That doesn't sound good.
- 22:43Speaker 6: Yeah, that just sounds great.
- 22:44Speaker 2: So yeah, you just make Basically every time I make
- 22:46Speaker 2: one of those, I would usually have spent six dollars
- 22:48Speaker 2: fifty on my coffee.
- 22:49Speaker 6: That's how much my coffee is.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Because you get the large, boy, I do get a
- 22:52Speaker 2: large and soy milk. So every time I do that,
- 22:55Speaker 2: instead of paying for the coffee, I transfer that exact
- 22:58Speaker 2: amount to Shade a Genieah. Right now have nothing because
- 23:01Speaker 2: I have depleted that account again. But the money was
- 23:04Speaker 2: there for you to deplete exactly exactly, so you don't
- 23:08Speaker 2: think about it because you're just buying coffees and then
- 23:09Speaker 2: that money's gone. Now has to say things.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Account you're saying sorry, sorry, have you been playing with
- 23:16Speaker 3: your budget in cash flo.
- 23:17Speaker 2: It's a little bit you know, nothing to write home
- 23:20Speaker 2: out at the moment, but it exists. It exists now.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm so proud of.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, if you'll be thank you so much. Doesn't feel good,
- 23:30Speaker 2: it feels really good. Looks like sometimes it's thirteen bucks
- 23:32Speaker 2: in there, but that's still more than enough for me.
- 23:35Speaker 2: That is so much more than you didn't have exactly,
- 23:38Speaker 2: And I feel like so many people like, what's the point.
- 23:41Speaker 3: And it's like even if over a year, like let's
- 23:43Speaker 3: be honest, times are freaking tough, even if every year
- 23:46Speaker 3: you end up with like fifty bucks in that account
- 23:49Speaker 3: bill pops up like you have cash instead of having
- 23:53Speaker 3: to rely on debt like and it feels good knowing
- 23:55Speaker 3: that there's some money sitting to the.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Side, exactly, lean on exactly. It's a good feeling. Yes,
- 24:02Speaker 2: that's me. I love this for you, so so much,
- 24:06Speaker 2: so much.
- 24:07Speaker 3: All right, let's go to a really quick break because
- 24:09Speaker 3: on the flip side, I'm really excited to talk about this. First,
- 24:12Speaker 3: we're going to be talking about whether you need to
- 24:14Speaker 3: tell your bank if you move and start renting out
- 24:16Speaker 3: your home, which is very relevant because I talk about
- 24:19Speaker 3: purchasing homes all the time.
- 24:21Speaker 2: But then something a.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Little bit spicy that you split into our dms about
- 24:25Speaker 3: this week, we're going to be asking what happens to
- 24:27Speaker 3: the money you've already paid when you drop out.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Of the bridle party.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I'm going to need to know why you dropped out
- 24:32Speaker 3: of the bridal party.
- 24:33Speaker 4: There's just so much there. All right, guys, don't go anywhere.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Welcome back everyone. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 24:43Speaker 2: money dilemma.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 24:48Speaker 3: can't solve? The Sheese on the Money Team is here

- 25:00Speaker 3: leave us a short voice recording and you might just
- 25:03Speaker 3: find yourself on the show.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Now, let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 25:10Speaker 7: Hi, team, My money dilemma is that I'm thinking of
- 25:13Speaker 7: renting out the property that I've lived in and owned
- 25:16Speaker 7: for six years while I go work into state for
- 25:20Speaker 7: one or two years. But does this mean I have
- 25:22Speaker 7: to change my home loan to an investment loan? They
- 25:26Speaker 7: often have high interest rates. I plan on returning to
- 25:29Speaker 7: the property and living it and again in one to
- 25:32Speaker 7: two years. Just wasn't really sure if I have to
- 25:35Speaker 7: tell my bank if I rent out my property for
- 25:38Speaker 7: a short time.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Thanks, I'm going to be so for real.
- 25:41Speaker 5: I didn't even know that investor loans were a thing,
- 25:44Speaker 5: much less what the difference is or what you do
- 25:45Speaker 5: with them.
- 25:46Speaker 2: So to handle this one straight.
- 25:47Speaker 3: To it, Well, Jess, you wouldn't know that because the
- 25:52Speaker 3: process that you're going through, and when you sat down
- 25:55Speaker 3: with one of the Zella money brokers, they would have
- 25:57Speaker 3: said what do you want and you said, I want
- 25:59Speaker 3: to purchase my own home, and they would have said,
- 26:01Speaker 3: do you plan a living in the property, and you
- 26:03Speaker 3: would have said, absolutely, I do.
- 26:04Speaker 4: I'm very excited.
- 26:05Speaker 3: So they would have gone down the root of what's
- 26:07Speaker 3: called an owner occupy a loan, and those usually carry
- 26:11Speaker 3: lower interest rates than an investment property loan. And there's
- 26:15Speaker 3: a number of different reasons for this. Obviously, the risk
- 26:18Speaker 3: is higher when it's an investment because it's not your
- 26:20Speaker 3: family home, more likely to be like damaged or whatnot.
- 26:24Speaker 3: But then also you're able to claim an investment on
- 26:27Speaker 3: tasks of course, right, so the bankers, I won't say
- 26:30Speaker 3: they're taking advantage, but like, I don't like that they're different,
- 26:33Speaker 3: but they are very different. In fact, there's been a
- 26:35Speaker 3: few times, and this is why you have to be
- 26:37Speaker 3: really honest with your broker when you know a broker
- 26:42Speaker 3: has been applying for an owner OC loan, so they've
- 26:45Speaker 3: been applying for the loan where you're going to live
- 26:47Speaker 3: in the property, and then the client's like, yeah, yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 3: I'm going to rent it out, and their broker's like, ah,
- 26:53Speaker 3: I can't legally sign you up to this, because once
- 26:56Speaker 3: your broker knows some information, they can't not do anything.
- 27:00Speaker 3: About it, like we are you know, at the end
- 27:02Speaker 3: of the day, ethical and moral and like we can't
- 27:05Speaker 3: lie on your behalf to a bank, like we don't
- 27:07Speaker 3: want to lose our license even if you're like, but
- 27:09Speaker 3: I just want the only OK loan because it'll be
- 27:11Speaker 3: lower interest rate, Like I get that, But also the
- 27:14Speaker 3: investment is what lines you up? So too long didn't read. Yes,
- 27:18Speaker 3: you do need to tell your bank that you're moving.
- 27:20Speaker 3: It's actually in your terms and conditions of the line
- 27:22Speaker 3: that you have with your bank. Yeah, there are a
- 27:24Speaker 3: heap of them. So when you sign up, you'll get
- 27:26Speaker 3: all your banking docs and in that it will say
- 27:28Speaker 3: if you move, you need to tell us. Also, did
- 27:31Speaker 3: you know you need to tell your bank if you're renovating.
- 27:33Speaker 4: Really, yeah, you need to tell your bank.
- 27:37Speaker 3: But like they technically own your property, Jess, Like they're
- 27:41Speaker 3: the ones that have looked at your property and gone, hey, Jess,
- 27:44Speaker 3: we are going to lend some money to you to
- 27:46Speaker 3: purchase this particular property and they're putting a security over
- 27:50Speaker 3: that property that if hypothetically Jess wasn't funny anymore and
- 27:53Speaker 3: she left, she's on the money and she lost a job.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Like they could sell the property and make their money.
- 28:00Speaker 3: But if you bulldoze the bloody house, yeah it's worthless.
- 28:04Speaker 3: So they don't want you to do that without approval.
- 28:06Speaker 3: So this is where reading your terms and conditions is
- 28:10Speaker 3: really important because it will say in your terms and
- 28:12Speaker 3: conditions that you need to keep the bank aware of
- 28:15Speaker 3: this any changes. Even if you go, oh, it's only
- 28:18Speaker 3: small and just redoing the bathrooms, bank needs to note
- 28:20Speaker 3: they're not going to care that much. But also it'll
- 28:22Speaker 3: probably add to the value, so it's not a bad thing.
- 28:25Speaker 3: But if you're moving out, you do need to talk
- 28:27Speaker 3: to somebody.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I have heard.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Stories is because I like live on oz finance on
- 28:32Speaker 3: Reddit where someone was literally dabbed in by a friend
- 28:36Speaker 3: to their bank.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Isn't the dodge that's so many?
- 28:39Speaker 4: Exactly so bad?
- 28:41Speaker 3: They were dubbed in by their friend who called the
- 28:43Speaker 3: bank and said, did you know that Jess has moved
- 28:45Speaker 3: out of the property and is no longer owner? Ok,
- 28:48Speaker 3: and the bank just changed their loan without any conversation,
- 28:51Speaker 3: without any permission, up to a higher interest rate and
- 28:54Speaker 3: moved them over to an investment loan as opposed to
- 28:57Speaker 3: an owner OK loan, And like I was like, through.
- 29:00Speaker 6: Do they didn't even check to make sure this is mine.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I know. Anyway, I just thought that's obviously one dog
- 29:06Speaker 3: of your friend to tell you in that is not
- 29:10Speaker 3: a friend indeed. But also I didn't realize that they
- 29:13Speaker 3: took it as seriously, Whereas we've dealt with clients who
- 29:16Speaker 3: are like, oh, V, because obviously I own a mortgage
- 29:18Speaker 3: breaking company r V, We're going to move out of
- 29:20Speaker 3: the property and do X Y Z, and it's fine.
- 29:23Speaker 3: We've called the bank on their behalf, and some banks
- 29:25Speaker 3: are like, oh, what's their plan. Oh, they're moving back
- 29:28Speaker 3: in in six months. They're just moving. The bank's like,
- 29:30Speaker 3: don't worry, we've put it on file. They're not going
- 29:32Speaker 3: to change it because they're going to be moving back in.
- 29:35Speaker 3: But it's a conversation to have with your your lender,
- 29:38Speaker 3: because at the end of the day, it's all about risk.
- 29:41Speaker 3: It's all about making sure that you're doing the right thing.
- 29:44Speaker 3: And they could actually be like, hey, we're no longer
- 29:46Speaker 3: going to lend.
- 29:46Speaker 2: To you, so you need to sell up the property.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Oh scary really what they found out. If they found out,
- 29:53Speaker 3: they could absolutely take action. At the end of the day,
- 29:56Speaker 3: if you're renting out your home while paying it off.
- 29:58Speaker 3: It has to be an investment loan back. It's not sexy,
- 30:02Speaker 3: it's not nice because obviously it's a higher interest rate.
- 30:05Speaker 3: But if you do decide while you are living in
- 30:09Speaker 3: your home to rent out your home and go from
- 30:12Speaker 3: an owner occupy alone, you're probably going to need to refinance.
- 30:16Speaker 3: And if you lie, there are some pretty serious consequences.
- 30:19Speaker 3: I mean, they'll give you warning. But one of the
- 30:21Speaker 3: examples when I was looking into some terms and conditions
- 30:24Speaker 3: is that the bank, this bank that I looked into
- 30:27Speaker 3: not naming and shaming, the bank said you've got thirty
- 30:31Speaker 3: days to pay off the balance that is owing, at
- 30:33Speaker 3: which point the lender might sell the property to recoup
- 30:35Speaker 3: the money. With that, it feels aggressive, so it can
- 30:38Speaker 3: be really aggressive. But it's really important to understand that guys,
- 30:42Speaker 3: it's twenty twenty four and data matching and whatnot exists,
- 30:46Speaker 3: and the bank will report to the ATO because the
- 30:50Speaker 3: ATO is going to care about what you're claiming. Right,
- 30:52Speaker 3: So if you move out of your property, you're probably
- 30:54Speaker 3: thinking it's an investment. Now I'm going to be able
- 30:57Speaker 3: to claim a heap of expenses and you're claiming in things.
- 31:00Speaker 3: But then the bank finds out that you're not actually
- 31:03Speaker 3: paying the right loan, you could be found out, so
- 31:05Speaker 3: it's not like they aren't on top of it. And
- 31:08Speaker 3: banks and lenders all have their own processes for checking
- 31:12Speaker 3: on whether you are actually an owner occupier, and banks
- 31:15Speaker 3: are going to have their own processes for checking if
- 31:18Speaker 3: you are an owner occupier or not. So they might
- 31:20Speaker 3: check if you live at the property for the majority
- 31:22Speaker 3: of the year. They might have a look at your documentation,
- 31:25Speaker 3: so they might request a tax return and see that
- 31:27Speaker 3: your tax return or your driver's license doesn't have that
- 31:30Speaker 3: address on it, it has the house that you live in.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Or they might see someone apply for a loan and go,
- 31:37Speaker 3: that address is Jess's house.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Ah, what's going on there?
- 31:42Speaker 3: Did two families live at that address? And then you go, no, no, no,
- 31:45Speaker 3: we're renting it off Jess. So I think it's really
- 31:49Speaker 3: important to just be on top of it and be truthful.
- 31:52Speaker 3: It doesn't mean that the bank is going to charge
- 31:54Speaker 3: you through your nose, but it could also be something
- 31:56Speaker 3: that you call the bank and ask them, hey, what
- 32:00Speaker 3: happen if I moved out?
- 32:01Speaker 2: Hypothetically it's the process, but also.
- 32:04Speaker 3: That should be a part of your decision making process
- 32:06Speaker 3: if you are planning on taking like a job out
- 32:08Speaker 3: of state or something, to make sure that you're not
- 32:11Speaker 3: financially putting yourself behind.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Yeah, totally.
- 32:14Speaker 3: Anyway, I know you guys are shocked by that, But nothing.
- 32:16Speaker 2: To add for me except I had no idea that
- 32:18Speaker 2: that was a thing. You're like, that's crazy, Yeah, filing that.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Away for later.
- 32:22Speaker 2: The only thing I want add is, I'm assuming this
- 32:24Speaker 2: makes rental prices higher than the maybe should be for
- 32:29Speaker 2: because of the higher cost and a loan exactly.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Well, yeah, and that's something to take into consideration as well.
- 32:35Speaker 3: And I mean there's a lot of conversation about being
- 32:38Speaker 3: an ethical landlord, and like there's a very big push
- 32:41Speaker 3: when it comes to people who are purchasing property right
- 32:43Speaker 3: and you hear it on money daries where they're like, oh,
- 32:45Speaker 3: I have a positively gid property where the amount of
- 32:48Speaker 3: money that they earn from their property in rent actually
- 32:51Speaker 3: covers all of the mortgage. And that's really attractive. But
- 32:55Speaker 3: if cost of living happens and your interest rate increases
- 32:59Speaker 3: but you're hasn't increased, that's why a lot of landlords
- 33:02Speaker 3: would then turn around and be like, hey, Beck I'm
- 33:04Speaker 3: going to increase your rent because they don't want to
- 33:06Speaker 3: be financially out for it. And I think at some
- 33:08Speaker 3: point you need to be an ethical landlord and say, hey,
- 33:11Speaker 3: I took this on as an investment, and one of
- 33:13Speaker 3: the risks was that at some point I would have
- 33:15Speaker 3: to tip in some of my own money. It's actually
- 33:17Speaker 3: not Bex or Jess's responsibility to pay more on my
- 33:22Speaker 3: mortgage just because the bank's now charging me more like
- 33:25Speaker 3: I think you should be charged market value.
- 33:27Speaker 4: But that's probably a whole damn podcast in itself.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Sure, true, just got served a notice of INTA again.
- 33:33Speaker 2: It's been a year.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Oh, I feel like time does fly when you're having fun,
- 33:36Speaker 3: doesn't it?
- 33:38Speaker 2: How much thirty bucks a week? Yeah? Like an actually
- 33:41Speaker 2: thirty bucks a week? Because when I first art, I
- 33:43Speaker 2: was like, oh, thirty box month, that's not so bad.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Like obviously you're taking the meeky week. So it's literally
- 33:47Speaker 2: like another hundred bucks a month.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Be for real. You can't even get brunch these days
- 33:51Speaker 4: for thirty dollars a week?
- 33:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Crazy?
- 33:54Speaker 5: Hey that for me?
- 33:55Speaker 7: All right?
- 33:55Speaker 3: Well, are you ready to stop this conversation and go
- 33:58Speaker 3: into our spicyd Absolutely? All right, so here's the damn
- 34:02Speaker 3: we received. Hi, she's on the money team. I would
- 34:05Speaker 3: love to hear your thoughts on this. I was part
- 34:07Speaker 3: of a bridal party, and four months out from the wedding,
- 34:10Speaker 3: due to personal reasons, I decided I could no longer
- 34:13Speaker 3: fulfill this role. I had transferred my share of the
- 34:15Speaker 3: payment for accommodation for a Hens weekend and was told
- 34:19Speaker 3: I wouldn't receive this back upon deciding to no longer go. However,
- 34:23Speaker 3: the Hen's party has just gone and I've seen that
- 34:26Speaker 3: they didn't stay at the apartment we had booked, and
- 34:29Speaker 3: I thought we paid for. The accommodation provider's websites state
- 34:33Speaker 3: that they don't take prepayment and provides a full refund
- 34:37Speaker 3: up until a week prior to the booking. It doesn't
- 34:39Speaker 3: seem right that they used my money to book and
- 34:42Speaker 3: or pay for something else. Is it reasonable to want
- 34:45Speaker 3: my share of the payment back?
- 34:46Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I don't like it.
- 34:48Speaker 6: I don't like it. I don't like it. It feels
- 34:49Speaker 6: very icky.
- 34:50Speaker 4: It feels like it just got worse as I read
- 34:52Speaker 4: it out, didn't I yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Seriously did. Because it's like, let's ignore the fact that
- 34:57Speaker 2: maybe someone somewhere must have lied about the pre payment situation.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Ew but like someone's idea is that like, oh, he's
- 35:06Speaker 2: a pool of money, and with this pool of money,
- 35:08Speaker 2: we will either you know, book this really fancy hotel
- 35:12Speaker 2: or whatever. It's like, that's not actually how it is working.
- 35:15Speaker 2: It's like everyone's paying their own kind of slice of
- 35:18Speaker 2: the pie. And if the pie is now smaller then
- 35:22Speaker 2: because I'm assuming that someone collected all the money for
- 35:25Speaker 2: say ten people, and then one person pulls out and like,
- 35:28Speaker 2: oh cool, we have the money for ten, but we
- 35:31Speaker 2: now just have to divide it by nine, you know.
- 35:34Speaker 2: And it's like that I understand if you couldn't get
- 35:37Speaker 2: your money back, you still have to stay at the
- 35:39Speaker 2: same place. But they've taken that money, not even considered
- 35:42Speaker 2: the person who has to drop out, probably for some
- 35:44Speaker 2: good reason, I assume, and it's like, thank you so
- 35:48Speaker 2: much for giving us a little bit more, We're going
- 35:50Speaker 2: to go here instead, and now we just have a
- 35:51Speaker 2: little bit more cash to splash. I just think that's
- 35:53Speaker 2: really really mean, and that's not actually how it works.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean, I'm so interested in why you
- 35:59Speaker 3: drop down, But I have a sninky suspicion because.
- 36:02Speaker 4: You have terrible friends.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Yes, and it's and it's it's just like a big fight.
- 36:08Speaker 4: It sounds really mean me I meant it. Yeah, just
- 36:12Speaker 4: what do you think?
- 36:13Speaker 2: I agree?
- 36:14Speaker 5: I think like, as you said, back, if they hadn't
- 36:16Speaker 5: been able to get the money back and you had
- 36:17Speaker 5: pulled out, I think that like you've already committed. I
- 36:21Speaker 5: don't think it's reasonable to ask the money back because
- 36:22Speaker 5: then people have.
- 36:23Speaker 2: To cover you.
- 36:25Speaker 5: But the fact that they changed the venue, unless they
- 36:28Speaker 5: had already changed the venue ahead of time and she
- 36:31Speaker 5: didn't know, I don't know it Just yeah, I agree.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I think that it's a bit icky that they had
- 36:37Speaker 5: maybe the flexibility and didn't give it back because as
- 36:40Speaker 5: you said, like, theoretically you're covering x amount of rooms.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Everyone's put in an x amount to cover X amount
- 36:44Speaker 5: of rooms, and you need one less room.
- 36:48Speaker 3: We all know, I was about to say, we all
- 36:49Speaker 3: know on like a bridal trip, people are sharing rooms
- 36:53Speaker 3: or getting apartments that you know, oh, one of us
- 36:56Speaker 3: will sleep on the couch, Like, I don't know. I'm
- 36:58Speaker 3: not justifying it because I think that she should have
- 37:01Speaker 3: got her money back. But I think that her friends
- 37:04Speaker 3: might see it a little bit differently, that they were like, oh, well,
- 37:06Speaker 3: when this person was involved, we you know, let everybody
- 37:09Speaker 3: know we could have this type of accommodation. But now
- 37:11Speaker 3: they've pulled out, we would have to change it. So
- 37:13Speaker 3: we're going to keep their part of the budgeting. Like
- 37:16Speaker 3: I could see maybe as as we like talking about it,
- 37:18Speaker 3: maybe like if you had two girls to every room,
- 37:20Speaker 3: for example, yeah, like and then you're okay, well, one
- 37:22Speaker 3: girl's going to have a single room.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Because she shouldn't have charge her more because she just
- 37:28Speaker 2: has someone.
- 37:28Speaker 5: But then if she pays the same amount as everyone else,
- 37:30Speaker 5: is everyone else going to be pissed off because she's
- 37:32Speaker 5: got a single room but they're all paying the same amount.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Like I can see how it does get a little
- 37:36Speaker 5: bit messy.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Ultimately.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I think like it's probably a conversation that they should
- 37:39Speaker 3: have had with you, Like they should have said, hey,
- 37:41Speaker 3: like X y Z, we already allocated, like we've pre
- 37:45Speaker 3: booked a different hotel, or you know, we're going to
- 37:47Speaker 3: have to charge someone double or whatever. At least had
- 37:50Speaker 3: the conversation. I think you're well within your rights to
- 37:52Speaker 3: ask it back or to at least raise it and say, hey,
- 37:54Speaker 3: like you know, I understood that if it was non refundable.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Like I was never going to ask for that money back,
- 38:00Speaker 3: but doubt it was refundable, So like, is there a
- 38:03Speaker 3: chance for that money to come? I think that's a
- 38:05Speaker 3: very reasonable conversation to have. I would put together a
- 38:07Speaker 3: nice message and basically ask that, I think on the
- 38:10Speaker 3: flip side as well as somebody who has had to
- 38:13Speaker 3: I wasn't in the bridal party, but I had to
- 38:15Speaker 3: pull out of a Hen's party because I was really pregnant.
- 38:19Speaker 3: And it is back when I had so I had
- 38:21Speaker 3: like preclampsy when I was pregnant, right, So my entire day,
- 38:26Speaker 3: every single day when I was pregnant, was really dictated
- 38:28Speaker 3: by my blood pressure. So I would wake up and
- 38:31Speaker 3: I would do my blood pressure, and if I did
- 38:32Speaker 3: my blood pressure that day, and it was often one
- 38:35Speaker 3: eighty over like one ten, which was cooked, I'd have
- 38:37Speaker 3: to go into the hospital and like deal with it.
- 38:39Speaker 3: It was actually the biggest shit show, remember, Jess, Like
- 38:42Speaker 3: it was very it was like, oh, hey, Jess, sorry,
- 38:44Speaker 3: I was about to come into recording. Now I can't
- 38:46Speaker 3: come into recording because I have to go to the hospital.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Or like the flip side, where it was like really
- 38:50Speaker 3: high and my doctor would say, if it's this level,
- 38:52Speaker 3: you actually just have to stay in bed that day,
- 38:54Speaker 3: like not moving. And then some other days my blood
- 38:57Speaker 3: pressure was fine and I'd be like, Jess, it's on.
- 38:59Speaker 3: Should we be like some more podcasts out right? So
- 39:01Speaker 3: like every day was different. But I remember having to
- 39:04Speaker 3: literally pull out the day of a Hen's party and
- 39:09Speaker 3: be like, hey, really sorry, I can't come when I
- 39:11Speaker 3: was like thirty eight weeks pregnant, so I was pushing
- 39:13Speaker 3: it already, but can't come. Would have loved to come,
- 39:17Speaker 3: but I'm not allowed. And at that point, I just
- 39:20Speaker 3: knew that that was a cost that the entire time
- 39:23Speaker 3: I might lose, but I wanted to be involved. And
- 39:26Speaker 3: I wonder if at this point, when you paid, that's
- 39:30Speaker 3: the cost of now missing out, Like that you paid that, yes,
- 39:33Speaker 3: you had to pull out, but like is that a
- 39:35Speaker 3: just a lost cause? Like I don't know, Like go
- 39:38Speaker 3: to other things too, Like if there's a dinner or
- 39:41Speaker 3: an activity like a you know, flower crowd making or
- 39:44Speaker 3: perfume making or whatever you're doing, like has something else
- 39:46Speaker 3: been paid for? And shout out to the person that
- 39:49Speaker 3: has to organize the henscript chat and like collect payments
- 39:52Speaker 3: because that's hard because you're right, there might not have
- 39:54Speaker 3: been any prepayment, So like you might be on the
- 39:56Speaker 3: website and it might say, oh, you can have a
- 39:58Speaker 3: complete one hundred percent fun. But like I have been
- 40:01Speaker 3: the person that has organized a hens before and I'm like, okay, cool,
- 40:05Speaker 3: so drinks and food are going to be this, and
- 40:07Speaker 3: we'll make sure that we have you know, pre drinks
- 40:09Speaker 3: at the hotel. And then there's like some accommodation. Okay, guys,
- 40:12Speaker 3: it's two hundred and fifty dollars ahead.
- 40:15Speaker 4: I don't have.
- 40:16Speaker 3: At the time, I didn't have the budget to cover
- 40:17Speaker 3: all of that. So before I booked in anything, I
- 40:19Speaker 3: was asking all the girls, can you just transfer me
- 40:22Speaker 3: the cash because like, this is how much I need?
- 40:24Speaker 3: And then I would go and book everything out, like
- 40:27Speaker 3: and that is what.
- 40:28Speaker 4: If I went the other way?
- 40:29Speaker 2: Yeah, what if someone didn't transfer and you had to
- 40:31Speaker 2: cover it?
- 40:31Speaker 4: Yeah, which always happens.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Like just if you commit to doing something, just transfer
- 40:37Speaker 3: the cash I get it, or have an open conversation
- 40:40Speaker 3: and be like, hey, v I really want to be involved,
- 40:43Speaker 3: but I don't have two hundred and fifty bucks. But
- 40:45Speaker 3: the events in December, is there any way I can
- 40:47Speaker 3: like pay you off over time, or like what can
- 40:49Speaker 3: I do? And at that point I might be like, oh,
- 40:51Speaker 3: don't worry, girlfriend, I only need to lock in the
- 40:54Speaker 3: accommodation and like that's not the full amount, so like
- 40:57Speaker 3: just transfer what you.
- 40:58Speaker 4: Can and we'll like work it.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Like we'll work it out.
- 40:59Speaker 3: But so many people go like stone cold silent and
- 41:02Speaker 3: don't have these money. Is awkward, but like have the
- 41:06Speaker 3: conversation because I can promise someone coming to me and
- 41:08Speaker 3: being like, hey, b I don't have the two fifty
- 41:10Speaker 3: or whatever it has been decided is the amount, but
- 41:14Speaker 3: I'll get it to you on this date or I'll
- 41:15Speaker 3: do it.
- 41:16Speaker 2: I don't care, Like I'll work it out. But like
- 41:19Speaker 2: if you just go radio signed and how awkward it
- 41:21Speaker 2: is to follow you up?
- 41:22Speaker 4: I hate that. Don't do that to people.
- 41:24Speaker 5: Yeah, so it sounds like our listener did the right thing,
- 41:27Speaker 5: like they let them know early. But it just maybe
- 41:29Speaker 5: it was a failure of the friends to have the
- 41:31Speaker 5: communication that they need to have. So I think you
- 41:34Speaker 5: ask for it back and see what happens. But so
- 41:36Speaker 5: we asked the community, do you think it's fair for
- 41:38Speaker 5: the group to keep her money? Seventy three percent of
- 41:40Speaker 5: you said no, she's owed her money back.
- 41:43Speaker 4: I kind of agree.
- 41:43Speaker 3: I was trying to play Devil's advocate and like be like, oh,
- 41:45Speaker 3: but what if, And then twenty seven percent of you said, yep,
- 41:48Speaker 3: she stepped down, it's a sunk cost. The next question
- 41:52Speaker 3: I asked was, would you ask for a refund if
- 41:55Speaker 3: you were in her shoes? Sixty seven percent of you
- 41:58Speaker 3: said absolutely, they changed plans, and thirty three percent of
- 42:01Speaker 3: you said no, just take it as a loss and
- 42:03Speaker 3: move on. I would always ask for a refund. I
- 42:07Speaker 3: feel like always if you don't ask, you don't care exactly,
- 42:10Speaker 3: and if you're kind about it, like, hey, I know
- 42:13Speaker 3: I pulled out. I'm hoping this hasn't like financially impacted anybody.
- 42:18Speaker 3: But I was wondering, given you know, and give them
- 42:21Speaker 3: a little bit of invoke, so like you know that
- 42:23Speaker 3: the way, like the hotel was refundable. Yeah, I know,
- 42:26Speaker 3: the hotel's refundable. So I was just wondering if I
- 42:28Speaker 3: could get you know, the money I transferred you back,
- 42:31Speaker 3: Like if they say no, you are well within your
- 42:33Speaker 3: rights to say, hey, I'd love to understand a bit
- 42:35Speaker 3: more about like why, like where is it gone? Like
- 42:37Speaker 3: surely it's just sitting in your account because they don't
- 42:39Speaker 3: charge you until you check in, like have that conversation
- 42:42Speaker 3: because you might learn, oh, well, actually you transferred one
- 42:46Speaker 3: hundred dollars and the accommodation per head was actually fifty
- 42:50Speaker 3: and I've spent another fifty on the entertainment and the
- 42:53Speaker 3: food and the drill, like and that's been and that's
- 42:55Speaker 3: been painful, and like now we're going to have to
- 42:58Speaker 3: like spread your cost across the other girls. And I
- 43:00Speaker 3: don't feel like it's fair to charge Jess and beck
- 43:03Speaker 3: more like do you know what I mean? Like they
- 43:04Speaker 3: could explain it, and you go, oh, actually, that makes
- 43:06Speaker 3: a lot of sense for having a chat totally.
- 43:09Speaker 2: And when you can see that there's there's a good
- 43:10Speaker 2: reason for it, cause I'm sure that this other person
- 43:12Speaker 2: has like valid points, it makes you just feel better
- 43:15Speaker 2: knowing like, oh, okay, I have lost that money, but
- 43:17Speaker 2: now I understand why.
- 43:18Speaker 4: But at least I don't feel like I've been taken
- 43:19Speaker 4: advantage of.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe I give you like.
- 43:21Speaker 5: The hotel portion like in that example, I can give
- 43:23Speaker 5: you like the room for portion back, but not the
- 43:25Speaker 5: food that you know they couldn't refund or whatever.
- 43:27Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 43:28Speaker 3: And I guess there's a good reminder that before booking
- 43:31Speaker 3: in anything for Hen's parties or group things like, have
- 43:34Speaker 3: in the group chat a conversation about budget. It can
- 43:37Speaker 3: feel awkward bringing it up, but be like, hey, guys,
- 43:39Speaker 3: we want to do like a weekend for Jess because
- 43:42Speaker 3: she's getting married. I don't even think just wants to
- 43:44Speaker 3: get married, but like hypothetically we're having a weekend for Jess. Yeah,
- 43:48Speaker 3: and I just want to know, like, what what budget
- 43:52Speaker 3: would you be happy to allocate to this? And some
- 43:54Speaker 3: people we've done I've done this before. Reply and be like, hey,
- 43:57Speaker 3: I have one hundred dollars that I could allocate. But
- 44:00Speaker 3: if you guys did like a house thing, I wouldn't
- 44:02Speaker 3: have to stay, like I'd go home that night, and
- 44:04Speaker 3: like ask people because like they might have kids, or
- 44:07Speaker 3: they might have different plans, or they might not want
- 44:09Speaker 3: to do or sleepover. So that you can get a
- 44:11Speaker 3: guys on like okay, cool, Well you know twenty people
- 44:14Speaker 3: will come, but six of those people actually want accommodation. Yeah,
- 44:18Speaker 3: so that you're not fighting off more than you can
- 44:20Speaker 3: chew and charging people for more, do you know what
- 44:23Speaker 3: I mean?
- 44:23Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 44:24Speaker 3: Very true Anyway, we did go to the community and
- 44:26Speaker 3: said what is your two cents? And I have a
- 44:28Speaker 3: lot of different opinions to share with you guys. So
- 44:30Speaker 3: first person said what they did sucks, but I'd be
- 44:33Speaker 3: burying the hatchet and keep.
- 44:35Speaker 4: A map of where you leave it as pertata.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Someone else said, what bride's expect of others to spend
- 44:44Speaker 3: for their wedding is too much?
- 44:45Speaker 4: It's just a day, and it's this good point.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I don't want to say too much here, but I agree.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I don't think that we should be spending any money
- 44:54Speaker 2: on someone else's I get it sometimes.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Right, I agree.
- 44:57Speaker 3: So I'm a bit spicy and I have been crucified
- 44:59Speaker 3: for this, but none of my bride'smaids paid for a thing,
- 45:04Speaker 3: and that's very entitled because obviously I had the budget
- 45:07Speaker 3: for it. But I was very much of the opinion,
- 45:09Speaker 3: as was my husband, that we didn't want to get
- 45:11Speaker 3: married until we were in a financial position where I
- 45:14Speaker 3: didn't make my wedding a financial burden on somebody else. Yeah,
- 45:18Speaker 3: and potentially that's you know, because I'm in finance and
- 45:21Speaker 3: I talk about it all the time, and you hear
- 45:23Speaker 3: these things, and we have these conversations. But like I
- 45:25Speaker 3: just remember being like bridesmaid's dresses I will be paying
- 45:28Speaker 3: for because it's the dress I want you to wear.
- 45:32Speaker 3: And again being a little bit spicy, you're a bit
- 45:35Speaker 3: delusional if you think you're going to pick a matching
- 45:37Speaker 3: bridesmaid's dress and then try and convince Jess. Don't worry, babe, Like,
- 45:41Speaker 3: if you spend four hundred dollars on dress, you'll probably
- 45:43Speaker 3: wear it again.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Because just hemet and wear it again.
- 45:45Speaker 4: Nobody's gonna hamm it and wear it again. Nobody like nobody.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Yeah, anyway, I've just got a lot of opinions about this,
- 45:53Speaker 3: but I was very much of the opinion that my
- 45:55Speaker 3: wedding day shouldn't put a financial burden on other people. Yeah,
- 45:59Speaker 3: and so we've paid for everything. Does that mean that
- 46:02Speaker 3: I think everyone should do that? No, because everybody has
- 46:05Speaker 3: different budgets. But I think everybody should have open, honest
- 46:08Speaker 3: conversations about that. Like if I was to ask you
- 46:12Speaker 3: Beck to be my bridesmaid, we should be having a
- 46:14Speaker 3: bit of a conversation up front, like, oh my god,
- 46:16Speaker 3: you want to be my bridesmaid, and you go.
- 46:19Speaker 2: I'd love that, But like, also, what are the expectations totally.
- 46:22Speaker 6: I think got the money for bridesmaids.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 46:24Speaker 3: But if I said, hey, Beck, I'd love you to
- 46:26Speaker 3: be my bridesmaid, by the way, I wouldn't ever want
- 46:29Speaker 3: this to be a financial burden on you.
- 46:31Speaker 4: I'll be covering everything.
- 46:32Speaker 2: You might go, oh, okay, I would.
- 46:34Speaker 3: Actually love that, like I would love to be involved. Like,
- 46:36Speaker 3: thanks for thinking of me. But you're right, Beck, it's
- 46:39Speaker 3: not your day. Why are you paying so much? We're
- 46:42Speaker 3: in a cost of living crisis. We are all worried
- 46:44Speaker 3: about groceries, We're worried about our electrical bills, and then
- 46:47Speaker 3: all of a sudden, your mate's getting married and a
- 46:50Speaker 3: three hundred dollars dress seems to be reasonable.
- 46:52Speaker 2: To ask you to purchase. I know, stressful.
- 46:56Speaker 3: You need matching shoes, like I have a pair of
- 46:59Speaker 3: new shoes. Why can't I just wag anyway, It's like
- 47:02Speaker 3: a whole conversation. I just obviously I am a little
- 47:05Speaker 3: bit heated about it.
- 47:06Speaker 6: Back, I completely get it.
- 47:08Speaker 4: More comments from the community.
- 47:09Speaker 3: One person said, if they stayed at the original accommodation,
- 47:12Speaker 3: she would have had to take the loss, but they didn't,
- 47:14Speaker 3: so she should get her money back. Someone else said,
- 47:17Speaker 3: there's never any harm in asking. That's what VD would say.
- 47:20Speaker 3: If they say no, I'd take it.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 3: Someone else said, people are real weird about Hens. You'd
- 47:27Speaker 3: need to be willing to lose a friendship or the money.
- 47:30Speaker 3: They do seem like they can be a dramatic sometimes,
- 47:32Speaker 3: don't they.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Yeah, it's actually terrifying.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Someone else said, I wouldn't let the money in this
- 47:37Speaker 3: instance come between what I assume is a close relationship.
- 47:42Speaker 3: But also where's the goss? Like why don't we know why?
- 47:46Speaker 3: I know you said personal reasons, but like girl, it
- 47:50Speaker 3: was anonymous, I need to know.
- 47:52Speaker 6: I need to know it's a message.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Yeah, like we need to know.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Someone else said people kept pulling out of my hands
- 47:57Speaker 3: and it got super frustrating and hard.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Oh I can understand that.
- 48:01Speaker 4: I totally get that.
- 48:02Speaker 2: Good perspective.
- 48:03Speaker 3: I totally get that. And if you've already paid and
- 48:05Speaker 3: then people are pulling out of the Hens party because
- 48:07Speaker 3: you've probably allocated the budget, but we're talking about bride
- 48:10Speaker 3: or party, like one of your bridesmaids has left, and
- 48:13Speaker 3: if that kept happening to.
- 48:14Speaker 4: You, I'm so sorry.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that would be really hard.
- 48:17Speaker 4: I like three bridesmaids can you.
- 48:19Speaker 3: Imagine if people kept pulling out and would have had nothing,
- 48:22Speaker 3: and someone else said, and we'll leave it here. It's
- 48:25Speaker 3: not fair on the other bridesmaids to absorb the extra
- 48:27Speaker 3: cost from her pulling out.
- 48:30Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a bit of a push.
- 48:31Speaker 2: And pull, isn't it.
- 48:31Speaker 5: Like you've got to you got to kind of figure
- 48:33Speaker 5: out what happened, why it happened, where the money did go,
- 48:37Speaker 5: and you know, I think that will probably inform whether
- 48:39Speaker 5: or not some of it can come back. But I think,
- 48:41Speaker 5: just yeah, have the conversation.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I'm not what's the.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Worst they can say, No, exactly exactly, that's so true.
- 48:48Speaker 3: I think with that, let's take this conversation offline. Let's
- 48:51Speaker 3: go buy a six dollar fifty coffee and talk about
- 48:53Speaker 3: a real thought about people paying for hens parties. Yeah,
- 48:57Speaker 3: all right, guys, have a good Friday, and we hope
- 48:59Speaker 3: you enjoy the weekend and we will see you bright
- 49:01Speaker 3: early on Monday for a money diary by guys.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Bye.
