- 1:22Speaker 2: number of very exciting broke tips for us. We're going
- 1:25Speaker 2: to be helping to answer a juicy money dilemma which
- 1:27Speaker 2: this week is all about getting out of a rut
- 1:29Speaker 2: and still prioritizing future you, and we're gonna unpack something
- 1:33Speaker 2: that you slid into our DMS, about which this week
- 1:35Speaker 2: we're adding spending money on yourself from a joint account
- 1:39Speaker 2: that you have in your partner. Before we get there, though,
- 1:43Speaker 2: my friends, how are you good?
- 1:46Speaker 4: It's sunny today. Nice difference for those of us in
- 1:49Speaker 4: Melbourne who've been dealing with the rain and the I
- 1:53Speaker 4: was gonna say the hail and the snow, but we
- 1:54Speaker 4: haven't had hail or snow, so just the rain. There
- 1:57Speaker 4: were you not cly not your Yeah. I love that
- 2:01Speaker 4: the sun is out, feeling good, feeling happy New Year.
- 2:04Speaker 4: You me still basking in the glow of that, currently
- 2:06Speaker 4: trying to sow my Taylor Swift errors outfit for anyone
- 2:08Speaker 4: who follows me on social media and is keeping up.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I don't know how to sew.
- 2:11Speaker 5: I didn't pick you as a habitashist, a haberdashist.
- 2:16Speaker 4: I'm not one.
- 2:16Speaker 5: I've literally never even heard that term. Your habitashists radar
- 2:20Speaker 5: is bang on. That's good to know. That's good to know.
- 2:25Speaker 5: I'll walk out on the streets of confidence. That's good
- 2:31Speaker 5: to know that sounds lovely and just as your bad
- 2:34Speaker 5: luck street come to an end. I don't I don't
- 2:37Speaker 5: want to trigger you. Don't you get.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Taylor Swift like Diamonte cowboy boots in.
- 2:42Speaker 4: The very exciting, very cute. No, there's currently a hole
- 2:46Speaker 4: in my roof. Still leaks when it rains, arguably more
- 2:48Speaker 4: so than ever before.
- 2:49Speaker 2: But we are going to get very close to this
- 2:53Speaker 2: real estate agency because it is wild what they're putting
- 2:56Speaker 2: you through there.
- 2:58Speaker 4: It's more of a company that built out like it's
- 3:01Speaker 4: a brand new house.
- 3:01Speaker 2: I'm sorry you called their emergency line and they were like, sorry,
- 3:05Speaker 2: they're busy.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Today has always been better than mine.
- 3:11Speaker 5: I don't want to rob it in, but I certainly
- 3:13Speaker 5: has speaking and I also don't want to drink that.
- 3:15Speaker 5: At the same time, my voice is back, as you
- 3:17Speaker 5: guys can tell.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like we're all back after the holiday,
- 3:20Speaker 2: and they're like, listen to us, we sound young again.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Yes, we like.
- 3:26Speaker 5: It's gonna wear for really quickly. I feel like at
- 3:27Speaker 5: the start of the year everyone's really happy, really light,
- 3:30Speaker 5: really bouncy. Maybe by July we'll be bit angry again.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Well that's a good run. If I make it to
- 3:35Speaker 4: July before I'll be thrilled.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Honestly, that's a great run.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I mean for you.
- 3:41Speaker 5: I couldn't even be several hours if it hasn't happened already.
- 3:45Speaker 5: But no, moment's been really good, just being like seeing
- 3:48Speaker 5: friends and being on the potinsular. Yeah, it's really nice.
- 3:52Speaker 5: It's lovely. Day has just said, just good fights all round,
- 3:55Speaker 5: feeling great.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I love I love this so much. I'm getting increasingly
- 3:59Speaker 2: unco comfortable. I do now look like I am smuggling
- 4:02Speaker 2: a beach ball. But that is okay, very grateful, very healthy,
- 4:06Speaker 2: very happy. Yeah, I'm excited for Taylor Swift as well.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Like Jess and I are going together with two other
- 4:12Speaker 2: girls from our team, which is obviously going to be
- 4:14Speaker 2: the best ever.
- 4:16Speaker 4: You're wearing a friendship bracelet? Is that related or unrelated?
- 4:18Speaker 2: It is related because fifty bracelet not going to this
- 4:24Speaker 2: When is this concert that's on the seventeenth of January February. Yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 2: I'm going to be thirty nine weeks pregnant. I will
- 4:31Speaker 2: regret nothing.
- 4:33Speaker 5: That is going to be very hard. But no, someone
- 4:36Speaker 5: is going and she may be a bracelet for the
- 4:39Speaker 5: well it there's a bit of vackstory. It's tweetledumb because
- 4:42Speaker 5: she's tweetled d Well, there wasn't really that much a
- 4:43Speaker 5: Vacktorid's that that's actually just the story.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And I think you're says fearless, doesn't it? I need
- 4:52Speaker 2: to make myself one so that it can like sit
- 4:55Speaker 2: on my thank you. I actually will commission that I
- 4:59Speaker 2: need to.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I've got any email just before my package is arrived
- 5:02Speaker 4: with all my beads.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Is this something that I'm going to be expected to do?
- 5:05Speaker 5: I'll do it for you? Like, do I need to
- 5:06Speaker 5: get a.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Whole heap of bracelets to trade because everybody else is
- 5:09Speaker 2: going to have bracelets to trade?
- 5:10Speaker 5: You've got enough on your plate?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Can I just buy bracelets?
- 5:12Speaker 5: Is that an option?
- 5:13Speaker 4: Don't worry about it. We'll talk later.
- 5:14Speaker 5: I got your covered, Okay, okay, okay.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I haven't even thought about my outfit because I can't
- 5:20Speaker 2: stop thinking about the idea that you know, Jess has
- 5:23Speaker 2: these beautiful outfits in mind, right, She's got all of
- 5:26Speaker 2: these beautiful options, and then she's like posting videos of
- 5:29Speaker 2: like beautiful chul and stuff, and I'm like, this is
- 5:31Speaker 2: going to look slay if you put me in sparkles
- 5:34Speaker 2: and diamonds. I'm going to look like a disco ball.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I think we go all in and you just wear
- 5:38Speaker 4: a crop top and we paint a disco ball on
- 5:40Speaker 4: your belly.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Absolutely not a great I already feel somewhat uncomfortable whenever
- 5:46Speaker 2: my belly is out. Over summer, I like wore a
- 5:48Speaker 2: bikini and it took point two seconds for me to
- 5:51Speaker 2: go find a linen shirt and be.
- 5:52Speaker 5: Like, look, I want you to wear a pencil skirt
- 5:56Speaker 5: and the belly will be the top of a microphone.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Oh my god, that's so good?
- 6:01Speaker 5: Is that?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Like?
- 6:02Speaker 5: Can you do can you do that?
- 6:03Speaker 4: Just for me?
- 6:04Speaker 3: Just for you, just for you?
- 6:06Speaker 2: All right, moving on, because I don't want any more
- 6:08Speaker 2: Habitdasherie recommendation. Let's get into what has been happening in
- 6:14Speaker 2: the community. It's just Gricci. What community money wins? All
- 6:17Speaker 2: confessions have you got to share this week?
- 6:18Speaker 4: Firstly, I've got a win from Ashley who said I
- 6:21Speaker 4: finally found a way to make iced coffee at home
- 6:24Speaker 4: that tastes better than my morning mac is iced coffee,
- 6:27Speaker 4: saving myself a cheeky seventy dollars a week by not
- 6:30Speaker 4: buying them went out and about.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Could she send the recipe.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Yeah, that's actually the question, Ashley, please share the recipe
- 6:36Speaker 4: with us. Actually I think she did because I can
- 6:38Speaker 4: see at least as the same thing. So go to
- 6:40Speaker 4: the thread great recipes there. Next, I've got a money
- 6:43Speaker 4: win from Lucy, who said money win. Good name, but
- 6:45Speaker 4: it is a good name spelled with an I, not
- 6:47Speaker 4: with a wife. Oh way cuter, wait, very cute.
- 6:50Speaker 5: I pictured l I see ye where.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It's like how when I met my husband and his
- 6:57Speaker 2: name is Stephen and he said, yeah, it's a Stephen
- 6:59Speaker 2: with a pea and I immediately thought of that Small
- 7:02Speaker 2: Mexicular Dog album. And now he's saved in my phone
- 7:06Speaker 2: as pht e ve e n and the small Mexican
- 7:09Speaker 2: Dog is his profile picture.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Very huge.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Hilariously, that's how he saved in my phone too, because
- 7:15Speaker 4: you air dropped the contact to me like everybody.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Their phoney.
- 7:21Speaker 4: But Lucy said money win. I bought a Raffle ticket
- 7:24Speaker 4: with money I earned from the collect the Container Deposit scheme.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I won said Raffle, which included a fifty dollars pharmacy voucher.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I went to the pharmacy to buy a discounted breast
- 7:34Speaker 4: pub it was the last month they had in stock,
- 7:36Speaker 4: so they discounted it a further fifty dollars.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Okay, but they're really expensive and I didn't know that.
- 7:41Speaker 4: So she only paid fifty bucks, which was covered by
- 7:45Speaker 4: her container refund, so she saved you nine dollars together.
- 7:48Speaker 5: No gosh, there you go.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Recycle your bottles, Runds.
- 7:51Speaker 5: That's incredible.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Never know when you could win a voucher next. I've
- 7:54Speaker 4: got one from Nicole who said double money win. Someone
- 7:57Speaker 4: posted in my local Facebook group looking for any one
- 8:00Speaker 4: with an overgrown yard who wouldn't mind having some sheep
- 8:03Speaker 4: over for a week to eat it down. Me she
- 8:06Speaker 4: said me, totally.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Me.
- 8:08Speaker 4: I get my lawn mode and fertilized and they didn't
- 8:11Speaker 4: have to pay to feed the sheep for ten days.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Meet Paris, Chocolate and Honey, my new lawn maintenance crew,
- 8:17Speaker 4: and of course we have a picture. Most thing I've
- 8:22Speaker 4: seen in my life that's really clever. If they happen
- 8:24Speaker 4: to want to do a front nature strip, I know
- 8:26Speaker 4: someone with one.
- 8:27Speaker 5: That's very overgrown.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I actually follow. I don't know who it is.
- 8:30Speaker 5: I will post it on my stories.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I follow a group of goats, one who do like
- 8:37Speaker 2: garden demolition, and.
- 8:38Speaker 5: I got like, that's so funny, and they like sence
- 8:41Speaker 5: the goats.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Into places that have like really like dense like shrubbery
- 8:46Speaker 2: and stuff that people are meant to pull out that
- 8:47Speaker 2: goats eat everything. So they do these time lapses of
- 8:51Speaker 2: these goats going in and doing their work and like
- 8:53Speaker 2: eating everything and then going away being like we're the goats,
- 8:56Speaker 2: we did our work.
- 8:57Speaker 4: I actually love everything about that.
- 8:59Speaker 5: I'm gonna say.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So funny.
- 9:03Speaker 4: I'm that is amazing. Next, Christine said she picked up
- 9:07Speaker 4: a gorgeous stainless steel pan from the op shop for
- 9:09Speaker 4: ten bucks when it's worth one hundred. Love a good opshop. Fine,
- 9:13Speaker 4: good time to be op shopping at a moment?
- 9:15Speaker 5: Is it well played?
- 9:17Speaker 4: Didn't even catch that everyone's getting rid of their stuff
- 9:19Speaker 4: for the new.
- 9:19Speaker 5: Year, so you shop time right now is great.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Rhiannon said, money Win. I found a broken bit of
- 9:29Speaker 4: plant on the footpath, put it in water to grow roots,
- 9:31Speaker 4: and after a few weeks I got a new plant
- 9:33Speaker 4: baby for free.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Money Win.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Beautiful photo, oh lovely of the plant baby. I want
- 9:38Speaker 4: to know, did you find it on the footpath or did.
- 9:40Speaker 2: You liberate it?
- 9:41Speaker 4: Find it on the foot path.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Like the time I stole a string of pearls from
- 9:47Speaker 2: my sister's string of pearls plants and planted that myself
- 9:51Speaker 2: and now mine looks better than hers.
- 9:53Speaker 5: Oh, that would kill you. Well, maybe she should have
- 9:56Speaker 5: looked after it in the first place.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Lastly, I have a money win from Catherine which comes
- 10:01Speaker 4: with a little bit of a PSA. She said, free money.
- 10:04Speaker 4: I signed up to Chairs's with the ten dollar SotM code,
- 10:07Speaker 4: which I've then reinvested the dividends that I earned. I
- 10:10Speaker 4: feel so rich when I look at it, despite having
- 10:12Speaker 4: no spare dollars to invest right now. Thanks SotM, You'm welcome.
- 10:16Speaker 2: So you're saying that your free money is making more
- 10:19Speaker 2: free money, and that free money will make you more money,
- 10:21Speaker 2: huge money.
- 10:22Speaker 4: We light hack and it was I said PSA because
- 10:25Speaker 4: a few people dm us to say the code wasn't working.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Cool. We've been canceled by Chasey.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Oh I reached out. Thankfully, they've given us the code
- 10:33Speaker 4: back for another year. So SotM will give you a
- 10:34Speaker 4: free ten bucks when you sign up, so we don't
- 10:36Speaker 4: get anything for that. Just to be very clear, that
- 10:39Speaker 4: is not a referral code. That's just free money for
- 10:42Speaker 4: you and dividends as well. So now Catherine's on the
- 10:45Speaker 4: app and up.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I love it. What else have you got, Jess? That's it?
- 10:48Speaker 5: That's it.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I mean, that's ending on a like free money giving
- 10:51Speaker 2: free money. That was a good place to end. People
- 10:54Speaker 2: who love free money also love broke tips. So Beck
- 10:58Speaker 2: say it, what have you for us?
- 11:00Speaker 5: Okay? So this week I have, as always, two from
- 11:04Speaker 5: the community, one for myself. So the first one comes
- 11:06Speaker 5: from Prianca. She suggested it's something I have done. Dye
- 11:09Speaker 5: your old clothes instead of buying new ones, like referb
- 11:12Speaker 5: which is a great idea because often, like for example,
- 11:15Speaker 5: I'll buy white shirts that look amazing for like one
- 11:17Speaker 5: and a half hours, and then I always yes, And
- 11:22Speaker 5: I actually recently died one of them pink and the
- 11:25Speaker 5: stains are kind of gone, like maybe they're still kind
- 11:27Speaker 5: of there, but you see.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Them with a pinkover and everyone's like, oh my gosh,
- 11:30Speaker 2: I buy a new shirt.
- 11:32Speaker 5: I'm like, yeah, thank you so much, and it didn't
- 11:34Speaker 5: barely cost me anything. But you can also tell people
- 11:36Speaker 5: that you're a habitasherist and you made it exactly exactly.
- 11:39Speaker 5: So yeah, killing like multiple birds with one stone out
- 11:43Speaker 5: in twenty twenty four. We're not killing animals anyway.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So the next one comes from me on the Vegan trip,
- 11:49Speaker 2: because I have seen her eat steak.
- 11:51Speaker 5: That's true, very early controversial waters.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Please steer away.
- 11:55Speaker 5: Let's steer away. I'm very scared right now, she's on spicy.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Next one comes from Reliar, who shared a page on
- 12:01Speaker 5: Instagram that post cheap hacks, and one in particular that
- 12:04Speaker 5: I liked is about this article that gave you suggestions
- 12:06Speaker 5: on really cheap recipes. Some of them were like eight dollars,
- 12:09Speaker 5: some of them were cheap, some of them are tiny
- 12:11Speaker 5: bit more expensive. But so this Instagram page is at
- 12:14Speaker 5: four zero one Okayay, so four hundred and one Okay,
- 12:17Speaker 5: I don't really know what that stands for.
- 12:19Speaker 2: We're not going to question it because they have cheap
- 12:20Speaker 2: recipes back.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Exactly, let's not question it. But they also have other
- 12:23Speaker 5: little cheap hacks, but just have a little peruse go
- 12:26Speaker 5: on their Instagram. Yeah, have a look. But yes, that
- 12:28Speaker 5: cheap recipe article I will be following to the tea
- 12:32Speaker 5: because that is you know, I think it's my like
- 12:34Speaker 5: cheating food. We absolutely need food to survive, and so
- 12:39Speaker 5: you know, if that's all you can afford before payday,
- 12:41Speaker 5: at least do it cheaply as possible.
- 12:43Speaker 2: But also, even if you can afford it, what a
- 12:45Speaker 2: good way to save some money. So find some cheap
- 12:47Speaker 2: eats like slash your grocery bill. Yeah, that is absolutely
- 12:51Speaker 2: what you should be doing in twenty twenty four. But importantly,
- 12:55Speaker 2: you're not going to get away with pretending that you're
- 12:57Speaker 2: a habitasherist. Yes, just because you died your shit pink
- 13:00Speaker 2: does not get you out of giving us a broke
- 13:02Speaker 2: tip from you. What is the tip that you are
- 13:05Speaker 2: bringing to.
- 13:05Speaker 5: The table this I do sometimes like to merge the two,
- 13:08Speaker 5: but I won't know.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I've noticed she's lazy. I won't be stingy even on
- 13:13Speaker 2: her tips. So my broke tip for this week.
- 13:15Speaker 5: I'm not sure if anyone remembers, but last year I
- 13:17Speaker 5: did share a tip about the Brunswick Tool Library, which
- 13:20Speaker 5: is where you like kind of borrow tools and stuff
- 13:22Speaker 5: you don't have to pay for them. They're very expensive,
- 13:24Speaker 5: turns out, so this is in the same vein. So
- 13:27Speaker 5: some libraries have these things called maker spaces, which is
- 13:29Speaker 5: where you know, if you want to get into embroidery
- 13:31Speaker 5: or sewing, or things like that, and you can you know,
- 13:33Speaker 5: borrow other things like puzzles and games and stuff. But
- 13:36Speaker 5: these places are dedicated to people who want to learn
- 13:39Speaker 5: that kind of skill may not have the resources or
- 13:43Speaker 5: the money to afford to BUYO. That's all those things themselves,
- 13:46Speaker 5: like you know, the sewing I don't know how much
- 13:48Speaker 5: a sewing machine is. I should so expensive.
- 13:50Speaker 4: I looked into it for making my outfit and I
- 13:52Speaker 4: decided I was going to hands because hundreds and hundreds
- 13:56Speaker 4: and hundreds of dollars.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Wow.
- 13:57Speaker 5: So that's why things like this are really good, and
- 13:59Speaker 5: that you know, if you are wanting to monetize that
- 14:02Speaker 5: skill eventually that could even make you money. But let's
- 14:04Speaker 5: not get to ahead of ourselves. But I think it
- 14:06Speaker 5: is a really good way to kind of like expand
- 14:09Speaker 5: your skill set and maybe learn a new skill along
- 14:12Speaker 5: the way, but also like do something you want for free,
- 14:15Speaker 5: like money, and also you can use that to tailor
- 14:20Speaker 5: your own clothes one day. Love it.
- 14:22Speaker 4: That's such a gay.
- 14:23Speaker 2: That's genius.
- 14:24Speaker 4: That's I love it.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Thank you so much.
- 14:25Speaker 1: That's me.
- 14:26Speaker 2: All right, let's go to a really quick break on
- 14:28Speaker 2: the flip side. We are talking about getting out of
- 14:30Speaker 2: a rut and still prioritizing future you and you slid
- 14:33Speaker 2: into our DMS about a topic this week that I
- 14:35Speaker 2: am genuinely so excited to break down spending money from
- 14:39Speaker 2: a shared account that you share with your partner.
- 14:41Speaker 4: I think it's going to be divisive.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I think it'll be divisive too, because it's not just
- 14:45Speaker 2: on electricity, you know, So, guys, don't go anywhere.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to the Money
- 14:55Speaker 4: to lemmons for this week.
- 14:58Speaker 6: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just

- 15:22Speaker 7: Hi, love Lies, I'm really hoping you can help me
- 15:24Speaker 7: make a decision. I am in a rut and I
- 15:26Speaker 7: am struggling to change that. I'm in a dead end job,
- 15:29Speaker 7: I'm goalless and I'm savings less. The only thing I'm
- 15:32Speaker 7: sure of is that I want to either move and
- 15:34Speaker 7: make a fresh start, or travel the country for a
- 15:36Speaker 7: year before settling down somewhere. My options for funding this
- 15:40Speaker 7: would be to either sell my house or borrow against
- 15:42Speaker 7: some equity. After paying out my loan, I would have
- 15:45Speaker 7: approximately three hundred thousand dollars in profit. Alternatively, if I
- 15:49Speaker 7: keep the houses in investment and rent it out, I
- 15:51Speaker 7: could use some of the one hundred and ninety thousand
- 15:53Speaker 7: dollars of equity that has built up. It would be
- 15:56Speaker 7: very very easy for me to sell up and run away,
- 15:59Speaker 7: but I'm not sure that that would be the best
- 16:01Speaker 7: for future me. What do you think would be the
- 16:03Speaker 7: best move?
- 16:03Speaker 2: I think this is a really interesting one. There's a
- 16:08Speaker 2: quote here we go loves a quote. I love a quote,
- 16:12Speaker 2: Quote scal. I've gone from being twenty twenty three stat
- 16:15Speaker 2: scout to twenty twenty four quote scale. Wait, you want
- 16:18Speaker 2: a motivational quote, I've got one for you. But there
- 16:21Speaker 2: is a quote that basically says, you can run, but
- 16:23Speaker 2: your problems are going to follow you. And I'm not
- 16:25Speaker 2: saying that you've got massive problems, but like this idea
- 16:28Speaker 2: of like, oh, I don't really know what I'm doing,
- 16:30Speaker 2: but like I should sell up and move completely, I
- 16:35Speaker 2: would argue, is not the solution that you're looking for.
- 16:38Speaker 2: It could provide some level of clarity, It could provide
- 16:41Speaker 2: a different environment for you to you know, get used to.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But I genuinely think that before you do any of that,
- 16:47Speaker 2: you should be really sitting down and thinking about or
- 16:51Speaker 2: I say, you don't have any goals, but like what
- 16:53Speaker 2: in my life do I value? What in my life
- 16:55Speaker 2: am I grateful for? What in my life do I
- 16:57Speaker 2: you know, feel like I want to change? Or like
- 16:58Speaker 2: is a little bit stagnant and actually doing some planning
- 17:01Speaker 2: to understand why you feel this way, because if you
- 17:04Speaker 2: can't articulate, like I want to run a but I
- 17:06Speaker 2: don't know why or when or where or how just
- 17:08Speaker 2: like doing that and making such a big decision. If
- 17:12Speaker 2: you're saying, look, I could have you know, three hundred
- 17:13Speaker 2: grand in profit, Well that's great, but like, are you
- 17:16Speaker 2: planning on just blowing that to have your best life ever?
- 17:19Speaker 2: Because you feel like running away like that three hundred
- 17:22Speaker 2: thousand dollars today is worth three hundred grand, but when
- 17:25Speaker 2: you come to retirement it could be worth millions. Like,
- 17:28Speaker 2: you know, if we look at your property and you're saying, well,
- 17:30Speaker 2: there's one hundred and ninety thousand dollars worth of equity,
- 17:32Speaker 2: Like that's fantastic. Are we putting future us first by
- 17:36Speaker 2: actually making the decisions that you're making. Should we be
- 17:38Speaker 2: looking at, you know, renting it out, maybe using some
- 17:41Speaker 2: of that rental income to like, you know, go on
- 17:44Speaker 2: a big Europe trip because you do want to get
- 17:45Speaker 2: away and want to experience some new things and then
- 17:48Speaker 2: coming back. I'm not saying you can't move or change,
- 17:51Speaker 2: but like, those are big decisions that are going to
- 17:53Speaker 2: have really big grammifications on your future financial well being.
- 17:58Speaker 2: And I just go, hmm, I wouldn't be so quick
- 18:00Speaker 2: to jump into that. You ever felt like running away?
- 18:03Speaker 5: Yeah, all the time. I literally ran away from Sydney
- 18:05Speaker 5: to Melbourne and it was the best decision ever.
- 18:07Speaker 2: But yeah, because you see it now, we get it,
- 18:08Speaker 2: don't exactly this is the.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Thing and this is not really it's obviously not financial advice,
- 18:13Speaker 5: but this is more life advice.
- 18:14Speaker 1: None of it is.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I think this is a life advice segment.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Now probably a life advice situation. But for me, take
- 18:20Speaker 5: for example, you know, I've always been in entry level
- 18:23Speaker 5: jobs literally this time. Two years ago, I was working
- 18:26Speaker 5: in a warehouses, a pickpacker, and I decided I got
- 18:28Speaker 5: saying no, no.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Wait no, like five years ago, bars down, I mean
- 18:34Speaker 2: no statement.
- 18:35Speaker 5: The statement retracted.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Then she came to work at She's on the money.
- 18:38Speaker 5: I see it, fab.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I think that the side like packages. You guys said
- 18:42Speaker 2: that you worked with packages.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Match.
- 18:47Speaker 5: She liked ours. That's anyway. I did impact like your package.
- 18:51Speaker 2: But no.
- 18:52Speaker 5: So one thing that I told myself because I was
- 18:55Speaker 5: obviously like, you know, it was twenty nine thirty, that's
- 18:58Speaker 5: not old by any means, but I was like, I
- 19:00Speaker 5: should probably do something. I decided to really look at life.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Instead of being halfway up or a little bit up
- 19:06Speaker 5: a ladder, I don't want to climb. I decided to
- 19:08Speaker 5: start at the bottom of a ladder. I wanted to climb,
- 19:10Speaker 5: which is new ladder, which is you know, I started
- 19:12Speaker 5: on reception here, and that's like just starting at the
- 19:14Speaker 5: very and you killed it of a ladder. You want
- 19:16Speaker 5: to climb, and even that kind of brings you the
- 19:18Speaker 5: happiness or the satisfaction you kind of want. Knowing that
- 19:20Speaker 5: you're in a dead end job. This is a job
- 19:22Speaker 5: that will eventually lead something that you want to do,
- 19:25Speaker 5: but also move if you want to. But just keep
- 19:28Speaker 5: that in mind. Start like, just climb a ladder you
- 19:30Speaker 5: want to climb, even if it's at the very very
- 19:32Speaker 5: very bottom of it, and trying to make that work.
- 19:35Speaker 4: That's very poetic.
- 19:36Speaker 2: You're trying from home. Just no, I think it's got
- 19:40Speaker 2: a really nice house. That makes sense.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Well, there's a few holes in the roof, that's true. Yeah, right.
- 19:46Speaker 4: I think I would say that you don't have to
- 19:48Speaker 4: make that big of a decision all at once, like
- 19:51Speaker 4: a lot of.
- 19:51Speaker 2: A decision to make. That's why I'm like, we thought
- 19:54Speaker 2: about this.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I know that I'm very risk ad first,
- 19:57Speaker 4: and there are certainly people out there who really push
- 20:00Speaker 4: the make the change, do the big thing. Don't wait
- 20:03Speaker 4: for the day.
- 20:04Speaker 2: This as like instead of tea in the morning, track offe.
- 20:08Speaker 4: No, but if you're craving, if you want to go somewhere,
- 20:11Speaker 4: like you said, take a short trip rather than moving.
- 20:14Speaker 4: If you think that you want to change careers, maybe
- 20:17Speaker 4: dabble by doing something on the side or I just
- 20:20Speaker 4: I don't think you have to be all in or
- 20:23Speaker 4: all out, especially if it's a decision like this one
- 20:27Speaker 4: that has potentially astronomical implications on your financial future, like
- 20:31Speaker 4: selling a house, selling investment propers.
- 20:33Speaker 2: And there's no guarantee you're going to be happy at
- 20:35Speaker 2: the other end because you don't deeply.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Know who, because you don't have the clarity. So I
- 20:38Speaker 4: think maybe before you make a decision, as you were saying,
- 20:42Speaker 4: sit down, assess what you want, do a bit of
- 20:44Speaker 4: internal work. You can try things before you go. I
- 20:49Speaker 4: was going to say balls deep but not very unbranded.
- 20:52Speaker 2: That's okay. It goes with me saying that I hired
- 20:55Speaker 2: you because I like your packages. That's true.
- 20:56Speaker 4: So you know, I think try things or find ways
- 20:59Speaker 4: to expect if you want to change, make a change.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Like I'm not saying keep doing the same thing, but
- 21:04Speaker 4: maybe just in small ways first, so that maybe you
- 21:07Speaker 4: try something you're oh, actually hate that, don't want that.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Imagine if I'd gone all in on that terrible So
- 21:13Speaker 4: you can you know, maybe you'll find something that you
- 21:15Speaker 4: didn't think that you would want that you do to
- 21:18Speaker 4: make sense.
- 21:18Speaker 2: No, I totally agree with that, And I think that's
- 21:20Speaker 2: where I was like, oh, like, running away from your
- 21:23Speaker 2: problems doesn't actually solve your problems. And while your problems
- 21:26Speaker 2: might not be like you know, these big dramatic things,
- 21:29Speaker 2: they don't have to be if you deeply haven't sat
- 21:31Speaker 2: down and thought about like, well, who am I? What
- 21:33Speaker 2: do I value about myself? What do I value about
- 21:35Speaker 2: my lifestyle? Like if you've sat down and been like, look,
- 21:38Speaker 2: I really value my freedom, my flexibility. I hate cold weather,
- 21:42Speaker 2: I don't like this, I don't like that. I do
- 21:44Speaker 2: love this, I do love that, And you go, I'm
- 21:47Speaker 2: not running away, but I would live my best life
- 21:50Speaker 2: if I moved to Bali. And you've got clarity on
- 21:53Speaker 2: the fact that you know that's a good decision for
- 21:56Speaker 2: you because you've written down why that makes sense.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Go for it.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'm not going to stop you, but I do think
- 22:02Speaker 2: we need to be going. Actually, let's put the brakes
- 22:05Speaker 2: on this because you're like, I don't have any goals,
- 22:07Speaker 2: I don't have any aspirations. I don't know what I'm doing. Like, okay, well,
- 22:10Speaker 2: let's just press pause and understand who we are. You
- 22:13Speaker 2: don't have to have this big laundry list of goals.
- 22:16Speaker 2: And as much as I'm a goal setting girly like
- 22:18Speaker 2: adore It even released an entire online course on proper
- 22:22Speaker 2: goal setting right you don't have to have goals in
- 22:25Speaker 2: mind to start that process and go, well, actually, what
- 22:28Speaker 2: is it going to take for me to live my
- 22:29Speaker 2: best life? Like what do I like?
- 22:31Speaker 1: You know?
- 22:32Speaker 2: And Beck and I might write these lists and they're
- 22:34Speaker 2: going to be so wildly different, and that's a good thing,
- 22:37Speaker 2: but it gives us clarity and well, what'spec's next step?
- 22:39Speaker 2: Like she knows she wants to be in media, she
- 22:42Speaker 2: knows she likes this type of lifestyle, and you know,
- 22:44Speaker 2: being in this area, and you know, I'm having a baby,
- 22:47Speaker 2: Like these things are so different that you just really
- 22:51Speaker 2: need to step back and go Actually, as much as
- 22:53Speaker 2: I feel a little bit aimless, let's just have a look.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Because I can almost guarantee if I did the same
- 23:00Speaker 2: to Jess and you were saying this, I'd be like,
- 23:01Speaker 2: well do you like this or that? And you'd be like, oh,
- 23:03Speaker 2: I don't like that, and you can start learning, Oh
- 23:06Speaker 2: maybe that's not the root. This is the root. But
- 23:09Speaker 2: just by jumping into one thing, it's not going to
- 23:11Speaker 2: solve it. I promise it's not going to solve it.
- 23:13Speaker 2: In fact, you might end up regretting it.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Come back and update us in a year on what
- 23:16Speaker 4: you decide.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And we set your goals. Go sit down and actually
- 23:19Speaker 2: write down what you enjoy about life, what you want,
- 23:21Speaker 2: more of, what you want, less of, what you want
- 23:23Speaker 2: to keep on doing. I think it's important totally.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Can you tell us about the DM?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 23:29Speaker 4: Please?
- 23:30Speaker 2: All right, I'm ready to share with you the DM
- 23:32Speaker 2: that I posted publicly on our stories earlier this week.
- 23:37Speaker 5: But I've not read that.
- 23:38Speaker 2: You definitely have not read already because stay away from
- 23:40Speaker 2: our socials. All right, So here's the DM. Hey, ladies,
- 23:44Speaker 2: I need some advice. My partner checked our joint bank
- 23:47Speaker 2: account and saw my orders from the Iconic. I probably
- 23:50Speaker 2: had about five different orders totally around seven hundred and
- 23:53Speaker 2: fifty dollars. He's cracked it at me and hasn't spoken
- 23:57Speaker 2: to me in over a day. That's real, ma true,
- 24:00Speaker 2: because he's so angry, yelling at me and saying it's
- 24:04Speaker 2: a waste of money and I shouldn't have put it
- 24:06Speaker 2: on our card. I feel like I should be able
- 24:08Speaker 2: to spend my money without getting in trouble and made
- 24:10Speaker 2: it feel bad, and now I'm thinking I shouldn't have
- 24:13Speaker 2: a joint account with him. If this is how he reacts,
- 24:16Speaker 2: I'm not sure if I'm in the wrong or not
- 24:18Speaker 2: for putting this on our card. It didn't feel like
- 24:20Speaker 2: it at the time, but he's now made me feel
- 24:23Speaker 2: like it was a terrible thing to do and I've
- 24:25Speaker 2: betrayed his trust. What do you think?
- 24:30Speaker 4: I feel like I'm gonna have a different opinion to
- 24:32Speaker 4: both you. So I almost want to go last.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Okay, No, I want you to go first.
- 24:36Speaker 5: M okay, Okay. I need a some much more context
- 24:46Speaker 5: because I want to know if that joint account is
- 24:49Speaker 5: strictly for bills or rent. Oh yeah, because if you're
- 24:52Speaker 5: doing that, that to me is a no no and
- 24:54Speaker 5: what are you doing? It's subjectively bad, that is not
- 24:57Speaker 5: what it is for. If it's just like the for
- 25:00Speaker 5: like you guys put all your your pay both your
- 25:02Speaker 5: pays in, then yes, spend whatever you want on whatever
- 25:06Speaker 5: you want.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Whatever you want.
- 25:07Speaker 5: Well, I just this is why I was thinking, are
- 25:09Speaker 5: you saving for something like? Is there a joint goal
- 25:12Speaker 5: in mind? And you've decided to only spend x amount
- 25:16Speaker 5: on your own things? I don't know, Like I know,
- 25:20Speaker 5: you know, you know, but you don't know. But when
- 25:23Speaker 5: you don't know what, you don't know exactly. So basically,
- 25:27Speaker 5: what I'm going to say, is this If it is
- 25:29Speaker 5: her own money and they haven't decided to try and
- 25:33Speaker 5: save together X amount per week, she's spending her own
- 25:36Speaker 5: money that she made herself.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Go for it.
- 25:39Speaker 5: That's absolutely your prerogative, and I don't see anything wrong here.
- 25:44Speaker 5: But if it's a joint account for bills and et
- 25:47Speaker 5: cetera and the like, you can't buy stuff from the
- 25:50Speaker 5: iconting from that account, is my thinking. Yeah, so that's me, Jess.
- 25:55Speaker 2: You have to go, you have to go now.
- 25:57Speaker 5: See this.
- 25:58Speaker 4: I think this is why I will never fully ever
- 26:00Speaker 4: share my finances, because I'm imagining that she and her
- 26:04Speaker 4: partner just have one shared bank account, perhaps that everyone's
- 26:07Speaker 4: money goes into that bank account. Everything is debeted out
- 26:10Speaker 4: of that bank account. I personally think if that is
- 26:14Speaker 4: the case, seven hundred fifty dollars is a lot of money.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I think that's a conversation that she'd been had because
- 26:20Speaker 4: if my partner and I were in the same situation
- 26:22Speaker 4: he spent seven hundred fift dollars on I don't know,
- 26:23Speaker 4: a video game, I.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Would be lack excuse me, or what the hell?
- 26:27Speaker 4: I would be taken aback because in my mind, a
- 26:31Speaker 4: significant purchase with shared funds is something that should be discussed.
- 26:35Speaker 4: You know, what is significant is up for debate and
- 26:38Speaker 4: personal to everybody. I actually think she should have said something.
- 26:42Speaker 4: The way that I imagine that I would work around this,
- 26:45Speaker 4: or the way that we currently manage our finances, and
- 26:48Speaker 4: I don't think I ever would change, is that independent
- 26:50Speaker 4: money is independent. So if you are both earning fifty
- 26:55Speaker 4: thousand dollars and you put X amount into an account
- 26:58Speaker 4: every week and that's your shared fund that you use
- 27:00Speaker 4: for joint purchases, for date nights, for a wedding or
- 27:03Speaker 4: a holiday, or your bills or whatever, those are shared funds.
- 27:07Speaker 4: But I think that it's really important that people are
- 27:09Speaker 4: able to spend their money however they want. But I
- 27:13Speaker 4: also think that maybe to make it equal or equitable,
- 27:17Speaker 4: you should have that money allocated to you. I don't know.
- 27:20Speaker 4: It's like each month we both get a thousand dollars
- 27:22Speaker 4: to blow on whatever we want, or five hundred dollars
- 27:24Speaker 4: or whatever it is. But I just think that if
- 27:27Speaker 4: it's joint money and you're making it be purchase, it's
- 27:29Speaker 4: something that should have been discussed. Because obviously he was
- 27:32Speaker 4: taken aback. I do not at all condone. The way
- 27:34Speaker 4: that he has approached that with you, that feels I
- 27:36Speaker 4: feel like that's a different story. I feel very displeased
- 27:40Speaker 4: with the way that he has treated you.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I feel very displeased. Yeah, I'm sorry. Are we living
- 27:45Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety four? Like, is the silent treatment still
- 27:48Speaker 2: something that you give?
- 27:49Speaker 5: Where are your words?
- 27:50Speaker 1: Sir?
- 27:51Speaker 2: You are an adult.
- 27:52Speaker 4: To blow up and be angry, I think is not
- 27:54Speaker 4: the appropriate way to handle it. But I think it
- 27:56Speaker 4: signifies that that is not something that he thought you
- 27:59Speaker 4: guys would and so you're not on the same page there,
- 28:02Speaker 4: so you need to get on the same page.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I want to know how long they've had that joint
- 28:05Speaker 2: account and.
- 28:05Speaker 4: What the discussion was around what it is, because my
- 28:07Speaker 4: partner and I have a shared account, but it is
- 28:09Speaker 4: purely like grocery funds and like bill funds.
- 28:12Speaker 2: How would you deal if James you were going through
- 28:15Speaker 2: the banking sor like James had spent five hundred bucks
- 28:17Speaker 2: out of your joint account.
- 28:19Speaker 4: I literally would be like what is this for?
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but you would question it first absolutely, being like
- 28:23Speaker 2: what the hell that was a waste of money?
- 28:25Speaker 1: No?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 28:26Speaker 4: It would be like if you want to buy something
- 28:28Speaker 4: you buy it with your money, like instantly, I spend.
- 28:30Speaker 4: You know, we've said before I earn my partner, I
- 28:33Speaker 4: definitely have spent big dog. I definitely spend more discretionally
- 28:37Speaker 4: than he does because I have the funds to do so.
- 28:39Speaker 4: But that it's never you know, the detriment of our
- 28:43Speaker 4: shared goals or of our you know, shared.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, because you've already put that money into
- 28:47Speaker 2: savings or the investments or whatever. Yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 4: So I think it really depends on what the conversation
- 28:53Speaker 4: was around how those as you were saying, how those
- 28:54Speaker 4: funds will be managed. Yes, but yeah, controversial, I think,
- 28:57Speaker 4: because I think most people are going to be like,
- 28:59Speaker 4: it's your money, girl, spender how you want.
- 29:02Speaker 5: I don't think it is.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Sorry, I can definitely agree that if that is the
- 29:07Speaker 2: I guess those are the guidelines of the account when
- 29:10Speaker 2: it was set up. Like if your partner Jess went
- 29:12Speaker 2: and spent money from that account and you told me,
- 29:15Speaker 2: I'd be like, well, that's actually unacceptable. Where do you
- 29:18Speaker 2: get that audacity from? Like what's going on? And he
- 29:20Speaker 2: might turn around and be like, oh my god, Yess.
- 29:22Speaker 2: When I went to pay, I pulled out the wrong card. Sorry,
- 29:24Speaker 2: and the like.
- 29:25Speaker 5: It all fixes itself up, but it's all good to go.
- 29:27Speaker 2: But I'm assuming you both when you got that joint account,
- 29:30Speaker 2: had to chat, right, and you said, we're going to
- 29:33Speaker 2: get a joint account. We're going to put X amount
- 29:35Speaker 2: in it together, and it's for ABC and D right. Yeah,
- 29:38Speaker 2: so that's the breadth. And I guess the boundaries of
- 29:40Speaker 2: that account. Now, if we look at how I manage
- 29:43Speaker 2: money in my relationship, I don't have my own money
- 29:47Speaker 2: and Steve does not have his own money. Both of
- 29:49Speaker 2: our incomes going to one one pool, and that's our money,
- 29:53Speaker 2: and it doesn't matter if one of us earns double
- 29:56Speaker 2: then the other. It's just it's our money across the board.
- 29:59Speaker 2: And from that money, we pay our mortgage, we pay
- 30:03Speaker 2: our bills, you know, we pay for Lucy like we
- 30:05Speaker 2: actually have debit cards to the same accounts. So if
- 30:09Speaker 2: we looked at this situation and it was reversed and
- 30:12Speaker 2: it said, hey, Victoria spent seven hundred and fifty dollars
- 30:15Speaker 2: from our joint account, well yeah, actually, because that's my
- 30:20Speaker 2: only location of where I do spending from. We don't
- 30:23Speaker 2: have our own money accounts where we make I guess
- 30:25Speaker 2: individual purchases. We do have our own emergency funds, but
- 30:29Speaker 2: neither of us touch that amount of money. But we
- 30:33Speaker 2: have like a debit card that I use that connects
- 30:35Speaker 2: to the same account and vice versa with Steve. However,
- 30:39Speaker 2: I would never purchase something that is I would say,
- 30:43Speaker 2: like above one hundred dollars that was a personal purchase
- 30:47Speaker 2: without talking to my husband, and I'm not asking him
- 30:49Speaker 2: for permission, Like I want to be really clear that,
- 30:52Speaker 2: like I'll go buy a dress and I might not
- 30:54Speaker 2: mention it, but both of us do that within reason.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So if I've gone and spent like one hundred bucks
- 31:00Speaker 2: on a new dress, I did, I'm wearing it right now.
- 31:02Speaker 2: I bought it a Country Road. It was one hundred
- 31:03Speaker 2: nineteen dollars on sale, and I was really excited about it.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I didn't call my husband for permission. Yeah, I was like, well,
- 31:08Speaker 2: I'm going to buy myself a new dress.
- 31:09Speaker 1: That's great.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I know we've got the money. I know it's in
- 31:12Speaker 2: our budget for me to buy clothes and stuff. Yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 2: seven hundred and fifty dollars to meet is a very
- 31:17Speaker 2: different situation, Like I would be and we're not talking
- 31:21Speaker 2: about permission here, but I would be very uncomfortable going
- 31:25Speaker 2: and spending that amount of money without giving my husband
- 31:28Speaker 2: a heads up being like, hey, there's a whole heap
- 31:30Speaker 2: of stuff on sale on the Iconic, do you reckon?
- 31:33Speaker 2: I can just put through a big bowl corder and
- 31:34Speaker 2: it not matter. And like I'm not saying not matter,
- 31:37Speaker 2: but like not matter to him. Like we have everything
- 31:41Speaker 2: allocated though, so like I do my budget and cash
- 31:44Speaker 2: flow system, and you know, as I have explained before,
- 31:47Speaker 2: everything goes into the one account, but it's all automated.
- 31:50Speaker 2: It goes to our mortgaget goes to our savings and
- 31:52Speaker 2: our investments, and we have, you know, different amounts for
- 31:55Speaker 2: different things. We used to have our own spending accounts,
- 31:58Speaker 2: and it just got a little bit too messy because
- 32:01Speaker 2: I was doing most of you know, one thing, and
- 32:03Speaker 2: he was doing something else, and then it swaps and
- 32:06Speaker 2: it just became honestly messy. So this is now what's
- 32:08Speaker 2: currently working for us, But I am acutely aware that
- 32:10Speaker 2: that does not work for a lot of other people.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And I'm also speaking from i would say, a place
- 32:16Speaker 2: of very very high privilege, because let's be very blunt,
- 32:21Speaker 2: I'm not an average income earner. We do have a
- 32:24Speaker 2: bit more disposable income, so that if I buy one
- 32:27Speaker 2: hundred and twenty dollar dress, my husband's not mad at
- 32:30Speaker 2: me because that was eating into the grocery bills.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:33Speaker 4: I do have budget that you brought up just before,
- 32:35Speaker 4: that is overlaid over generally shared account, right like that
- 32:39Speaker 4: For us, it's allocated to bills and groceries. You for
- 32:41Speaker 4: someone else, they might have their discretionary spending included in that.
- 32:45Speaker 4: But it sounds like our listener they either have a
- 32:48Speaker 4: budget allocated and her spending has gone over that and
- 32:51Speaker 4: maybe that's why he's upset, or they haven't spoken about
- 32:54Speaker 4: the breakdown, and so.
- 32:55Speaker 2: That's what boundaries were in place. Yeah, I would take
- 32:58Speaker 2: a step back and be like, all right, let's put
- 33:00Speaker 2: this seven hundred and fifty dollars expense to the side,
- 33:03Speaker 2: and let's have an adult conversation where we don't ignore
- 33:06Speaker 2: each other. Yes, and go, Actually, what did you think
- 33:08Speaker 2: the boundaries on this account?
- 33:10Speaker 1: Was?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Ah, they're different to what I thought they were. I
- 33:14Speaker 2: thought that it was just our money and we could
- 33:16Speaker 2: spend it however we want. Maybe you're in a situation
- 33:19Speaker 2: where you don't actually have a very good budget at
- 33:21Speaker 2: the moment, so you're not actually allocating money for rent
- 33:24Speaker 2: and allocating you just have a big pool of cash
- 33:26Speaker 2: and you just thought it didn't matter, when in reality
- 33:29Speaker 2: your partner's freaking out because they know Regie's due next
- 33:31Speaker 2: month and they're like, what are you doing taking that
- 33:34Speaker 2: out of there? Like, we've got a big expense coming up.
- 33:37Speaker 2: So I think for me, my budget and cash flow
- 33:41Speaker 2: system works really well because we are so structured. In
- 33:44Speaker 2: the background. I know I have this written, Jess. I
- 33:47Speaker 2: know you're exactly the same because we budget very similarly.
- 33:51Speaker 2: We literally use the same product and it's my product role.
- 33:55Speaker 2: But we know what's coming up, we know what's there
- 33:58Speaker 2: and what we can and can't spends, And inherently I
- 34:01Speaker 2: have in the back of my head if I'm going
- 34:03Speaker 2: to go spend that one twenty ondred dress, I know
- 34:05Speaker 2: it's not impactful because I've actually already allocated everything.
- 34:08Speaker 5: And my husband is across the same budget.
- 34:10Speaker 2: We're on exactly the same Paige, So if he's spending
- 34:13Speaker 2: money from our account, he knows it's okay because he's
- 34:16Speaker 2: very aware of what else is being paid. But it
- 34:19Speaker 2: just sounds like you are not aware of the boundaries
- 34:22Speaker 2: that have been put in place for this account. You
- 34:24Speaker 2: need to talk about that and often having more structure
- 34:28Speaker 2: is actually going to be better. And yeah, put you
- 34:32Speaker 2: in a situation where you've got more success.
- 34:33Speaker 4: Yeah, because there's no right or wrong, like we do
- 34:36Speaker 4: it completely different ways.
- 34:37Speaker 5: Yeah, and that works.
- 34:38Speaker 2: And pragmatically, we could wipe this whole conversation off the
- 34:41Speaker 2: table and be like, oh, yes, how do you budget?
- 34:43Speaker 2: And you go, oh, I use the sheese on the
- 34:44Speaker 2: Money masterclass and I'll be like, yeah, same. Do you
- 34:46Speaker 2: have joint account with your partner?
- 34:48Speaker 1: Yes?
- 34:48Speaker 5: Oh, me too.
- 34:50Speaker 2: And you might assume that our banking systems are very
- 34:52Speaker 2: similar because you just ticked two really big boxes about
- 34:55Speaker 2: how we budget and then also how we view joint
- 34:58Speaker 2: accounts and the reality years it couldn't be more different.
- 35:02Speaker 2: We did ask the community a couple of questions.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Are you ready?
- 35:05Speaker 2: So we said, do you have a joint account with
- 35:06Speaker 2: your partner? Sixty five percent of you said yes, which
- 35:10Speaker 2: I was impressed with because I thought it would be less.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Yeah, that is a lot.
- 35:13Speaker 2: We said if yes, if your partner put personal expenses
- 35:15Speaker 2: on the joint account without telling you, would you be angry?
- 35:19Speaker 2: Twenty one percent of you said yep, definitely. Sixty seven
- 35:22Speaker 2: percent said, well, it depends how much money it was,
- 35:25Speaker 2: and twelve percent of you said, wouldn't care. I think
- 35:27Speaker 2: it's fine to do.
- 35:28Speaker 1: So.
- 35:29Speaker 5: The overlay of that would.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Be the boundaries of the account. Again, it's pretty sure
- 35:34Speaker 2: the people saying I wouldn't care, I think that's fine,
- 35:37Speaker 2: their boundary would be that that is also for personal spending. Yeah,
- 35:40Speaker 2: Whereas if I say to my partner or you know,
- 35:43Speaker 2: back when Steve was my boyfriend and we had a
- 35:46Speaker 2: joint account together, it was literally for rent and groceries
- 35:49Speaker 2: and electricity bills, pit.
- 35:51Speaker 5: Spent from that, I think I would have flipped it.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I would have been like, what are you doing sir? Yes,
- 35:56Speaker 2: So context is everything. We then asked, is your joint
- 35:59Speaker 2: account only used for shared costs such as rent bills, groceries,
- 36:03Speaker 2: holidays together, et cetera. Seventy one percent said yep, it's
- 36:06Speaker 2: only for shared cost and then twenty nine percent said no,
- 36:10Speaker 2: we put personal costs in there as well. That is
- 36:12Speaker 2: the context we need about your account. Yes, definitely. We
- 36:16Speaker 2: then said, do you have some guidelines with your partner
- 36:18Speaker 2: on how and what those shared accounts are used for?
- 36:22Speaker 2: Seventy three percent said, yep, we set these when we
- 36:24Speaker 2: got the account, which is I'm assuming not what our
- 36:28Speaker 2: DM message I did. And twenty seven percent said, no,
- 36:32Speaker 2: we really relaxed and just go with whatever goes on.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Just turn right now, that would never go like that.
- 36:38Speaker 5: Would never work for absolutely. Got absolutely like.
- 36:43Speaker 2: This woman uses up bank right, and the reason she's
- 36:46Speaker 2: so in love with our bank, apart from the fact
- 36:48Speaker 2: that it's just a good banking system, right, she can
- 36:50Speaker 2: have savers for everything? How many savers if you currently
- 36:53Speaker 2: got just cook, I.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Think I have like sixteen or something.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah, sixteen different savings accounts that she just like breaks
- 36:59Speaker 2: down the truly everything. And I look at her and
- 37:01Speaker 2: I'm like, I am a legit ex financial advisor, and
- 37:03Speaker 2: I could never's perfectly.
- 37:05Speaker 5: I mean perfectly sounds like cottious.
- 37:09Speaker 4: You have a fun for everything, so I know exactly
- 37:11Speaker 4: what I can spend on clothes, exactly what I can
- 37:13Speaker 4: spend on beauty.
- 37:14Speaker 5: I like that it just workes up.
- 37:16Speaker 4: But again it's so personal, right.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Like I love pain together, Like I've got like a
- 37:21Speaker 2: little budget for like clothes and beauty and discretionary items.
- 37:24Speaker 2: And if I spent it all on beauty. Well, I
- 37:26Speaker 2: don't get any clothes, whereas just as like, no, I
- 37:28Speaker 2: need balance.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I separated. Yeah, I separated out even further.
- 37:31Speaker 5: That's incredible.
- 37:32Speaker 2: So we then went to the community and said, what
- 37:35Speaker 2: is your two cents and similar reactions to us? So
- 37:39Speaker 2: what is wrong with him and his reaction? Why it's
- 37:42Speaker 2: so intense? I think you need to have a deep conversation.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Someone else said, I think what he's more upset about
- 37:48Speaker 2: here is a lack of communication. Communication is key. Someone
- 37:53Speaker 2: said you both should still get discretionary spending in your
- 37:55Speaker 2: own accounts, which is fair, but we're talking about a
- 37:58Speaker 2: joint account. A heap of you actually DMed and said
- 38:02Speaker 2: we gott to need more context here, and I'm like, sorry, Sis,
- 38:04Speaker 2: we weren't provided with that context. And that's half the
- 38:07Speaker 2: fun of these dms. We can assume someone else said,
- 38:10Speaker 2: I'd rather him put it on the joint account than
- 38:12Speaker 2: keep his spending a secret.
- 38:15Speaker 4: Interesting way.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, and I mean that makes sense. But like
- 38:19Speaker 2: in your situation, Jess, it's very clear that your money's
- 38:22Speaker 2: your money and your partner's money is your partner's money,
- 38:25Speaker 2: and you split it. However you've decided to split it yeah. Like,
- 38:29Speaker 2: I don't know if in your situation you'd be that
- 38:31Speaker 2: happy with your partner critiquing what you're spending and him
- 38:34Speaker 2: being like, oh, well, you do spend more than me.
- 38:36Speaker 4: That's not the point, which is why I like personally
- 38:39Speaker 4: for me and my situation, I like the idea of
- 38:42Speaker 4: having your own separate spending account because it does take
- 38:44Speaker 4: out that need to answer to somebody. You go, yeah, okay, whatever.
- 38:48Speaker 4: You know, I've worked out from my budget and you've
- 38:49Speaker 4: worked out from your budget that we have to spend independently.
- 38:52Speaker 4: We spend independently and you don't answer to anybody. It's
- 38:55Speaker 4: kind of like we're both adults. Spend it how you want. Like,
- 38:58Speaker 4: if you want to spy five hundred chocolate eggs because
- 39:01Speaker 4: they're already out, you go like, girl, buy yourself some
- 39:04Speaker 4: cabridery milk eggs. Can you tell what I'm thinking about
- 39:06Speaker 4: doing a life?
- 39:08Speaker 5: I'm loving about them.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Living is so hard because complete side note. I was
- 39:13Speaker 2: in the supermarket the other day with my husband and
- 39:16Speaker 2: he looked at the Easter installation and he was like,
- 39:19Speaker 2: didn't we have Christmas yesterday? And I said, yeah, we did,
- 39:22Speaker 2: and he looked at me dead in the eyes and said,
- 39:24Speaker 2: Jessel love.
- 39:25Speaker 4: This, and I was like, he knows me so well.
- 39:28Speaker 5: I was like, yeah, she will. But that's also really funny.
- 39:31Speaker 2: It's very clear back to our DM two senses. Someone
- 39:35Speaker 2: said anything over one hundred dollars being purchased has to
- 39:38Speaker 2: be discussed in our house, which I think is very
- 39:41Speaker 2: very fair. Someone did a whole heap of red flag
- 39:44Speaker 2: emojis and said, the delivery, it's a conversation. Sorry he
- 39:47Speaker 2: approached it that way, yeah, manchild.
- 39:49Speaker 4: I was like, the delivery was not good.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Yes, his reaction is immature, but this actually should have
- 39:55Speaker 2: been a conversation before spending, irrespective of how he responded. Yeah, So, like,
- 40:01Speaker 2: I know he responded incorrectly. I think we can all
- 40:04Speaker 2: agree on that. Yes, but like at the end of
- 40:06Speaker 2: the day, seven hundred and fifty dollars is a lot
- 40:08Speaker 2: of money. That is a lot. It is like, it
- 40:12Speaker 2: is a lot of money in general to have in
- 40:14Speaker 2: your account. It is a lot of money to then
- 40:16Speaker 2: say I spent that on the iconic Yeah, so lightly.
- 40:20Speaker 2: I don't know if my husband did that or I
- 40:22Speaker 2: did that. I kind of expect my husband to be like, well,
- 40:25Speaker 2: what is this yeah, and ask me, because that's a
- 40:28Speaker 2: bit rogue, especially without a discussion.
- 40:30Speaker 5: Oh sorry, I was just trying to calculate the shot back.
- 40:35Speaker 4: If it was upsized, it could be twenty percent, but
- 40:37Speaker 4: sometimes it's not upsized right now, so I wouldn't have
- 40:40Speaker 4: ordered anyway.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 5: Yeah, if you've spent that when it was upsides whatever
- 40:45Speaker 5: that's called. I haven't experienced it yet, yeah, so it'd
- 40:48Speaker 5: be so mad.
- 40:49Speaker 2: So I think the TLDR of all of this is
- 40:52Speaker 2: it's time to discuss the terms and conditions of your
- 40:54Speaker 2: joint account together. Set some boundaries, keep some boundaries, and
- 40:58Speaker 2: understand what that actually looks like, and have an honest
- 41:02Speaker 2: adult conversation about it. Because even when we do stuff
- 41:06Speaker 2: like this, like if it was the right thing to
- 41:08Speaker 2: do ultimately, or even if it was the wrong thing
- 41:11Speaker 2: to do ultimately, these conversations around money should always be respectful,
- 41:16Speaker 2: and I think that that's the only way we can
- 41:18Speaker 2: move forward. So it just sounds like there's a few
- 41:20Speaker 2: things going on, agreed myself. We're all done here, my love,
- 41:24Speaker 2: so have the best weekend. I'm excited because money Diaries
- 41:28Speaker 2: are back on Monday, so we will see you then.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Until then, enjoy your weekend, My loves We love you.
- 41:34Speaker 5: Bye guys Bye.
