Transcript
- Adam Rutz: Self-discipline isn't just about how much you can do. Sometimes it's about how much you're willing to say no to. I heard on a podcast, Alex Hormozi said, It's never been easier than it is right now to be successful. But it's also never been easier than it is right now to be distracted. And I think there's so much truth to that. We've all heard the the famous quote, I think Warren Buffett said something along the lines of. The difference between successful people versus very successful people are that very successful people say no to just about everything. It might be saying no to the extra hour on your phone, saying no to the food that doesn't support how you want to feel or look, saying no to the distraction that steals time from what actually matters. Saying no to the opportunity that sounds good, but it pulls you away from where you're actually trying to go. Because every time we say yes, that has a cost. Every time you say yes to something, you're usually saying no to something else. You say yes to staying up late, you might say no to better sleep quality. You say yes to another distraction, you might be saying no to focused work. You say yes to comfort, you might be saying no to growth. And this is where self discipline becomes powerful. Elite performers, they don't just ask, what can I add? They ask, what do I need to eliminate? What habits are making me worse? What environments are pulling me backward? What distractions are stealing my attention? What am I doing consistently that has absolutely nothing to do with the person I'm trying to become? Then they have the discipline to say no. Because you don't need to do everything. You need to do the right things consistently. And sometimes the fastest way to improve your performance isn't adding another routine. It's removing the things that keep sabotaging the routines you already have. So today, identify one thing you know is not making you better. One distraction, one habit, one unnecessary commitment. One thing or person that keeps stealing your time, energy, or focus, and say no to it because self-discipline isn't only proven by what you're willing to do, it's proven by what you're willing to walk away from. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
