- 0:11Hello and welcome back to another episode of The Mindsets
- 0:14Podcast, episode 82. We are back without guest.
- 0:18I know guest list we're. Going to have to pretend to be
- 0:20friends again. How are you?
- 0:22What you been up to? I've had it.
- 0:24I mean, I haven't seen you since since the last episode we
- 0:26filmed. Yeah, which I mean in show
- 0:28business was only like a couple of weeks ago, yeah.
- 0:30It feels like it feels like a longer time, isn't it?
- 0:32Lots has happened. Yeah, I've done a high rocks.
- 0:34He's back out there. I'm back out there, back in the
- 0:37deep end. PBPBSAPB, there we go.
- 0:42More in the tank. Left a lot on the table.
- 0:45But you know, you can only learn from race experience.
- 0:47So where was it there? And we went to the I, I was
- 0:50actually going to make a joke about it, but like, we went to
- 0:53Toulouse in France. Lovely.
- 0:56Like a lovely place. Yeah.
- 0:58Usually it's like you see the airport, you see the Airbnb, and
- 1:02then you see the exhibition centre, which was, it was
- 1:04similar to, it was like the French equivalent of the Excel
- 1:07centre, apart from it was really sunny and it was kind of nice.
- 1:10But we actually spent some time in Toulouse, the Pink City as
- 1:14it's known. Any reason?
- 1:15I think because the buildings are like terracotta or
- 1:17something, but that's all I can tell you about it.
- 1:19It was lovely. It was sunny and it was a nice
- 1:21weekend away. Can you talk about your nails
- 1:23please because you're waving them about and these have
- 1:25happened since last week. I don't really know why, but it
- 1:30was something that we decided to do and I kind of like it.
- 1:32Was this you and Hugh? Yeah.
- 1:34Yeah. Cool.
- 1:36So we went to the nail salon, which was a traumatic experience
- 1:40for so many reasons. I feel like it was something
- 1:42that everyone needs to experience at some point in
- 1:45their life. God, we probably don't have time
- 1:49to be pick it. But we went in and he went first
- 1:53and then we ran out of time. So I didn't get mine done.
- 1:57So we had to go back the next day, but he only got 3 nails
- 2:00done. I went full in with the five
- 2:02nails, but then bottled the other hand.
- 2:06There's, there's, there's, there's lots more layers to the
- 2:08story, but I'm kind of into it. And yeah, are you?
- 2:12Going to go back and get the other hand done or are you just
- 2:14going to let those grow? Out.
- 2:15I think I'm going to get rid of them and then at some point I
- 2:18might redo them, but I'm basically just challenging
- 2:22social norms. What I've seen a lot come up on
- 2:25my social media recently is people offering ad space on
- 2:29various things. People have been offering ad
- 2:31space on their dogs, ad space on their.
- 2:33Forehead. The forehead.
- 2:34What is a good one? Point.
- 2:35You've got ad space on those fingernails right there.
- 2:37You know, little QR codes, scan the QR code.
- 2:40Yeah. But we just thought it was a fun
- 2:41way to kind of promote the brand and get rocks out there.
- 2:44And it kind of looks funky and it's kind of cool and like lots
- 2:47of compliments. Because the thing was, I hadn't.
- 2:49Seen you and for those that follow us on Instagram, if you
- 2:51don't at mindsets under score podcast you put out behind the
- 2:54scenes post and in there you are with the hand and I was like,
- 2:58haha that's. Got to be GPS down the
- 3:00generator. I was like, that's joke.
- 3:01Yeah, yeah. And then Jake Williamson
- 3:02commented like, sick nails. I was like, oh, funny you.
- 3:05Can tragedy. I've made it.
- 3:06As soon as I saw that comment I was like, this is good.
- 3:09He likes the nails. We're good.
- 3:10And and yeah, they're actually, I think.
- 3:13Honestly, they should catch on because they're, yeah, it's,
- 3:15it's the, the experience of getting your nails done at a
- 3:18nail shop or a nail salon, whatever you call it, is truly,
- 3:22truly traumatic. I've only ever looked in and and
- 3:25immediately looked away. Like I can't make eye contact
- 3:27because I feel like everyone stares at me and I hear they're
- 3:30always talking about you in a different line.
- 3:32Behind your back. I, we, we probably don't have
- 3:34time for me to go down the whole rabbit hole of the story, but I
- 3:37liaised with lots and lots of girls about getting my nails
- 3:41done because I was like, smart, tell me, tell me what to do,
- 3:44what to ask for, what to get. Because there's acrylic, there's
- 3:47gel, there's different types of gel, there's different brands of
- 3:49gel, whatever. So everyone told me a different
- 3:53thing, which was confusing in itself.
- 3:55Everyone told me it was going to be a different price.
- 3:57Everyone, all of these different parts of information that didn't
- 4:00really come together as a whole thing, which fulfilled me with
- 4:03confidence. When I walked into this nail
- 4:04salon, the one thing that no one told me about was how rude the
- 4:10people were going to be in there and how traumatic it was going
- 4:12to be because I'm there getting my nails done.
- 4:15Like messaging being like, this is this is traumatic.
- 4:17And they're like, yeah, of course it is.
- 4:19It's like you didn't tell me that.
- 4:21Tell me the one piece of information that I needed to
- 4:23know was that I was never would have gone if you'd never, never,
- 4:26never, never. But yeah, it was, it was quite
- 4:29fun. And then I think over the course
- 4:31of both me and Hugh going and getting our nails done, the
- 4:33people in the shop were kind of like, I don't understand what's
- 4:35happening, but it's kind of funny.
- 4:37So I think they warmed to us and, and you know, all of the,
- 4:41all of the responses have been positive.
- 4:43If this episode gets 100 likes on YouTube, I'll go and get
- 4:46mindsets nails done. Huge.
- 4:48There we go. Huge.
- 4:50That's your queue. Well, we've had plenty of other
- 4:53things going on. Mine, my life's been a bit more
- 4:55boring. I've just been working.
- 4:56Working away? Yeah, someone's got to do it.
- 4:58Live in the high. Rocks Line now you've been away
- 5:00skiing. I did, actually.
- 5:02Yeah. You went skiing.
- 5:03Best sport in the world is sport and best that.
- 5:04There's no way I'll be able to prove that to you guys, but I I
- 5:07will actually, I am awaiting my Red Bull letter.
- 5:11I hit the best skiing one of my life and like you won't believe
- 5:15it if I say on the podcast. So I actually have to show you a
- 5:17video, but I'm the letter will come.
- 5:20Have you seen those those reels where it's like waiting for my
- 5:23Red Bull contracts and make it like 3 inches of air?
- 5:25I made one of those on a jump. I tried to do my first ever 360
- 5:29and I actually tore a ligament in my knee perfect.
- 5:31And I put that video up and it didn't, it didn't do any numbers
- 5:34because I think everyone was actually like, you're just shit.
- 5:36Yeah, yeah, yeah, they didn't get it.
- 5:37Yeah. That's not remotely bad.
- 5:39That's shit. Yeah, the the irony was lost.
- 5:42But in the world of sport, there's been a lot going on.
- 5:45Yeah, as you know, we do 2 minute news as you know, we
- 5:48normally ever run. As you know, there's a lot
- 5:51that's happened. So we're going to say just try
- 5:53and keep it tight, right. I like that.
- 5:55Cool. Sounds good to me.
- 5:56So do you want to start us off with?
- 5:58The world of athletics. The world of athletics.
- 6:00So we've had the indoor championships over the last
- 6:03couple of my guest days. We've had lots and lots of
- 6:07success, great British success, Josh Kerr winning gold in the
- 6:123000 meters, Keely Hodgkinson winning gold, Molly Cowgery
- 6:16winning gold, Georgia Hunter Bell winning gold.
- 6:19I think there was three of those, one in like a 28 minute
- 6:22window, a bit like Super Saturday in 2012.
- 6:25So lots and lots of success and off the back of obviously Kili
- 6:29setting the indoor 800 meter world record.
- 6:34We'll talk about her training a little bit more in this episode,
- 6:37but it's just like there's so much depth, especially in middle
- 6:39distance running in the UK at the moment.
- 6:41So it's an exciting time as we move towards the European
- 6:44champs, which is in Birmingham at the kind of towards the back
- 6:48end of this year. But lots of good athletics to
- 6:50look forward to this summer and hopefully more success for GB.
- 6:53Yeah, that was an interesting fact she gave me as well about
- 6:55her. She ran her.
- 6:57Oh, yeah, I, I, I don't know where I saw this, but I'm sure
- 7:00it's legit. So she, she yeah, yeah, we're
- 7:04all about that legit fact checking.
- 7:06So she ran the 800 meter final, I think.
- 7:08Then an hour later she was then running the four by 4, which I
- 7:14think the British girls won as well.
- 7:16I don't, don't, don't quote me on that, but she ran the fastest
- 7:19leg out of any of the girls. Which is insane.
- 7:22Insane. Especially because it's like
- 7:23it's not her like specialist distance as well, and it's off
- 7:27the back of running. Yeah, she's honestly a freak
- 7:29athlete. Next piece of news I've got is
- 7:32from the football world. Most salads leaving Liverpool.
- 7:35Is he? He is.
- 7:37And now there's this debate whether he's a Premier League
- 7:39legend, whether he's not. Is he the best striker in the
- 7:42Premier League at the moment? All I know is he's not in the
- 7:45Premier League anymore. Does he, do you know where he's
- 7:47going? Do we know?
- 7:48No, he's just said that he's leaving Liverpool.
- 7:50I think there's been a bit of AI think he's been on the bench a
- 7:53bit and I think it's just come to the fact that he's.
- 7:56Is he getting past it in the room away?
- 7:59I don't know enough about football.
- 8:00I don't. Know I would say as a person
- 8:03that's been a fringe football interest fan that most Allah has
- 8:07been an incredible player. He's just not for me on the
- 8:12level of some of the like, absolute legends, the Goats, the
- 8:15Rooney's. Oh yeah, the.
- 8:17The Messi's like, I don't think he's he's not in the same
- 8:21conversation in in the Roman league for me.
- 8:22I mean, I think if you're a Liverpool fan, you would
- 8:25strongly Yeah, because he was there for the entirety of the
- 8:28golden era. So anyway, gutting for Liverpool
- 8:31fans. Not as gutting as seeing Arsenal
- 8:33win the Premier League. However, on the on the flip side
- 8:37of Arsenal working, there was another score.
- 8:39You want to talk? About yeah, I'm peripherally
- 8:41involved in a lot of Tottenham supporters and they've not been
- 8:44doing well. They got beaten.
- 8:47Are they in relegation? Are.
- 8:49They having a good season, I think they are actually, yeah.
- 8:51Close, I mean. Charlie mentioned that,
- 8:52actually. So they got beaten by forests on
- 8:54the weekend three nil, which is just bizarre.
- 8:57And I think forests are also in contention for relegation.
- 9:01So I think that was like a real flip result.
- 9:04But again, like, I don't know anything about football.
- 9:06So as you know, you guys come to us for the best football in the
- 9:08years. The next thing that we should do
- 9:11is we should round up the Six Nations.
- 9:13Definitely. I boldly made a very safe
- 9:17prediction in the last episode. I don't know if you recall, that
- 9:19was it, that it was pretty obvious every single result.
- 9:21And I think I got all but one of them wrong.
- 9:23Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:24Which really confused me. Yeah.
- 9:26Yeah. So if we round that off, in the
- 9:28men's Six Nations, France won and England came second last.
- 9:32Yeah, perfect. Great.
- 9:34Fortunately, though, our A team is playing very soon next month.
- 9:39The women play. And as you know, as we have
- 9:40discovered while doing this podcast, women are better than
- 9:43men at sports in this country. So hopefully we won't come.
- 9:46I'm hoping as well, like I've been seeing a lot of advertising
- 9:49about selling tickets. I hope it's like the most
- 9:51popular women's rugby event that obviously off the back of the
- 9:55World Cup final being the biggest ever attended women's
- 9:59rugby event. Hopefully this can kind of just
- 10:01kick start it again and like help to grow the sport, but
- 10:04England are in a really good position I'll.
- 10:05Check my diary. Maybe we should go.
- 10:07We should definitely go if we can.
- 10:08Yeah, yeah. I'm up for that.
- 10:10That starts on the 11th of April.
- 10:12Oh cool, everyone keeps. I already know that's not a good
- 10:15weekend for me. OK, we'll go.
- 10:17Well, we've got 5 weekends. I don't.
- 10:19Need to let everyone know about my diary and my arrangements.
- 10:24Then the next thing we have to talk about, it's a big weekend
- 10:27for High Rocks this weekend, specifically in London.
- 10:30So we had the EMEA Regional Championships 815.
- 10:34Our home race. Car Each race is filled with a
- 10:37bit of control. All of the races were great,
- 10:39weren't? They they were actually really
- 10:40good to watch. I was fortunately there in
- 10:41person, took the opportunity while it was home.
- 10:45Interesting races to talk about from the get go.
- 10:49So women's race straight from the start was pop in.
- 10:54Yeah, they went out hot. Yeah.
- 10:55Obviously we're used to seeing Joanna Wheatrich just run away.
- 11:00And then also Lauren Weeks is if if Joanna's not racing, Lauren
- 11:04Weeks run away. So it's actually really nice to
- 11:06see the chasers basically have their own race.
- 11:10And we've probably been able to assess and people that are on
- 11:13the fringe of hierarchs might not completely understand this.
- 11:15London is looking like it's a fast course, basically is
- 11:18looking about a minute faster than any other place.
- 11:19So the timings of this matter lesson positions, But Sinead
- 11:23Bent took the win. Yeah, awesome, right?
- 11:26Really, really good and she actually had a good back and
- 11:29forth quite a lot of time with Amelia Darman, who got her place
- 11:33in the World Champs last year in the last chance qualification.
- 11:35So similar sort of format. Unfortunately Amelia missed out
- 11:38on the actual qualification, but she still got her first podium
- 11:41and ran a sub 59 pro. They're all so fast, ridiculous.
- 11:46Everyone's so fast, even like even away from the Elite 15,
- 11:49just the sports progressed so much over the last even six
- 11:52months. Like, yeah, of course a year is
- 11:55progressed a lot, but the last six months everyone's running
- 11:58like baffling me. Quick times.
- 12:00One of the things that we're going to bring up carefully,
- 12:03just actually out of major respect, Amelia had a a tough
- 12:09race. Yeah, well, something happened
- 12:14during the race, which is as a result of bicarb.
- 12:16We've, we've spoken in previous episodes about what can go wrong
- 12:20with bicarbon, certain reasons to test your fueling, that kind
- 12:23of thing. I imagine it was something to do
- 12:25with that. Not strictly necessarily true,
- 12:27but there was a reaction which happened.
- 12:31Gastrointestinal, not really what you'd want in a race.
- 12:34However, literally an hour before her race, she actually
- 12:37put her on Instagram. Nothing would make me ever quit
- 12:39a race. And she stood true to that.
- 12:42She crossed the line, She got her podium, she got her sub 59
- 12:46minutes. I don't actually know if she'd
- 12:47gone sub power before so she managed to do that and got a big
- 12:51check and and and lived to see another day and I think just
- 12:56fair play. Such mad respect.
- 13:01I think like just the ability to have that adversity during a
- 13:05race and also just go, I'm so tough and I'm not going to stop
- 13:10that. Nothing can.
- 13:11I think for most people, probably 99% you get to a point
- 13:15where you're like, yeah, I'm just going to stop now, but it's
- 13:17like when there's money on the line, it's your potential.
- 13:21I'm assuming she does it full time as a job.
- 13:23It's like she's got sponsors, etcetera, etcetera.
- 13:26Yeah, honestly, mad respect And and I, I feel like it probably
- 13:30on camera, maybe the broadcast could have done a bit better.
- 13:33But also like, I think the whole handling of it was completely
- 13:39fine and it'll be swept on the carpet very quickly.
- 13:42Yeah. And then and moving on very
- 13:43quickly in the same way that the actual event did itself, her
- 13:46coach, Yeah, went on and set a world record.
- 13:49Unbelievable. Yeah.
- 13:50Yeah, that was crazy as well in the race because Tim Vienish, I
- 13:55mean, he was first to finish the wool wools, but he had to say it
- 13:57was a penalty, which was like. So many penalties over the
- 14:01weekend. Yeah, so without being that guy,
- 14:05there was some dubious judging going on and.
- 14:09I think this is the one thing where I, I, I struggle with the
- 14:13consistency of both the decisions that are being made
- 14:16and then how they're being communicated.
- 14:18I think it's like it's a sport that I, I wouldn't call it in
- 14:22its infancy now, but it's still very new and it's trying to
- 14:25progress and develop. It just needs better systems in
- 14:29place, especially at that top level.
- 14:31I think that's the thing. There is VAR now.
- 14:33Yeah. But like, it's almost for some
- 14:36of that's like Hawkeye to just be like replaying where the body
- 14:42was for whatever. And was it, it was the the call
- 14:45on Millard and Archer in the double S race on the rower where
- 14:491 foot they called it that she started pulling before both feet
- 14:52were in to the naked eye, she's pulling basically simultaneous.
- 14:58I'm like, that's a tough, tough call.
- 14:59Yeah. And and if we stay on those.
- 15:01So first of all, we need to we need to talk about some
- 15:04controversy that happened in hierarchs at the weekend.
- 15:06So in the women's pro double S, we had the winners, Lauren
- 15:10Stockley and Charlie Searle. They crossed the line, they got
- 15:12their cheque, they did the most heart.
- 15:14Warming on wholesome. I love them both.
- 15:16Yeah. Everybody, especially in this
- 15:18country, absolutely loves them and everyone so happy to see
- 15:20their success. The problem is that they didn't
- 15:22actually win and they found out about this through the
- 15:27Grapevine. Basically.
- 15:28Lauren Stockley said that she found out on social media, which
- 15:31is so wrong in so many ways. But they actually had a penalty
- 15:35tacked on by VAR after the race for crossing the lanes as they
- 15:39left. Think it was one of the sleds
- 15:43and unfortunately the current ruling is if you cross a lane
- 15:46when you leave a station in the sled or in the grid you get a
- 15:50one minute penalty and the one minute penalty put them down out
- 15:52of qualification. One minute is so harsh as well.
- 15:55Now there's there's. Levels to this again being there
- 15:59Holly and Saskia who at the time were in the lead they serve the
- 16:03same penalty. However they were given the
- 16:05penalty at the same time so it would be very unfair for them to
- 16:08have to deal with that penalty and the others not because
- 16:12hierarchs didn't call it at the time when it's the same thing.
- 16:14So there is the balance of fairness there.
- 16:17I do therefore believe that the penalty should be given is right
- 16:21yeah, yeah. The tough I agree with that is
- 16:23watching them do it and seeing that they got absolutely no
- 16:26benefit from doing it at all because it was it was only one
- 16:28of them and they didn't gain anything really other than a
- 16:32safer release from the station, which is one of the arguments
- 16:35that's coming on. And to get then smash with a one
- 16:39minute penalty. Exactly the tough thing.
- 16:41Though go through like the emotion of winning.
- 16:43Is that Holly and Saskia knew about it at the time?
- 16:46So I remember being in the venue and hearing that by the lunges,
- 16:50Holly and Saskia after the running, after the rowing,
- 16:53sorry. And after that sled incident.
- 16:55On like 90 seconds. They had they had a 92nd penalty
- 16:58and yet Faisal was saying they're still 45 seconds ahead
- 17:03of world record pace. So like they know that they have
- 17:05this penalty so they can account for it.
- 17:07They can be pushed really hard or whatever.
- 17:09And Charlie and Lauren, they wouldn't have known that, which
- 17:12is again, unfair kind of, but the ruling kind, it's so it's a
- 17:16complicated situation. It's not so black and white.
- 17:18What I can say from my perspective is it's absolutely
- 17:20wrong how it was handled. There should have been a
- 17:23release, but they shouldn't have been an announcement to anybody
- 17:25until the announcement had been made and agreed with all of the
- 17:27actions next morning. However, I do think it's right
- 17:31that the rule stands. People have changed, have said
- 17:33about changing the rule the the penalty.
- 17:37I think the penalty should remain because one minute is
- 17:39enough to deter you to actually stay within your land, quite
- 17:42literally. It's just a nasty situation.
- 17:46It was poorly handled and again, if we're talking about the sport
- 17:50developing, that is the sort of thing that you just cannot have.
- 17:53It's all APR. It just continuously makes the
- 17:56sport look like it's a joke. And there are.
- 17:58It's kind of like rock and a hard place because also on the
- 18:01flip, as a developing sport, they need to have these rules in
- 18:04place so that when you do go and compete, you understand this is
- 18:07what's on the line. I'm going to leave no doubt.
- 18:09I'm definitely going to follow the rules.
- 18:12So at some point you have to make a scapegoat of someone and
- 18:16it's like if they just step back and brush it under the carpet
- 18:19and and pretended it never happened, then you have all of
- 18:22the other people being like they didn't get a penalty.
- 18:24So it's like over time they will develop the consistency.
- 18:27It's just a shame that that was how it happened and who it
- 18:30happened to because it couldn't have happened to a team that
- 18:34probably deserved it more. And they just like, love their
- 18:39post race interview. I don't know if you like Charlie
- 18:42talking about wearing the same shorts twice.
- 18:43It's just so good. But on the on the topic of
- 18:48Saskia and Holly, that for me is the pinnacle of how the sport's
- 18:52going to progress because they're both runners like GB
- 18:58level, whether it was junior or actual like top league level,
- 19:05they're some of the best runners in the UK And now they're
- 19:08transitioning to high rocks. So they're like, they're very
- 19:10raw in the sport of high rocks and you can see that and maybe
- 19:13why they got so many penalties. But if more and more runners are
- 19:17coming into the sport, you see how fast they were running.
- 19:20Honestly, it was insane. And like how effortless the run
- 19:23effect as well. The first lap, bearing in mind
- 19:28each, each lap must have been, I think it was just under 500
- 19:32meters kind of thing. And it's not a perfect loop like
- 19:34a track, but if you imagine it being like a track, they were
- 19:38like already one of the 100 meter turns by the end of the
- 19:42first lap. And I remember looking at them
- 19:43being like they have gone out so hot and then it didn't change
- 19:49the whole race. They stayed at the exact.
- 19:51And just looked comfortable the whole time.
- 19:53Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's really impressive.
- 19:55It was it was just like it it wasn't even that they looked
- 19:57like relaxed. They just looked locked in and
- 20:00when they got to the station they didn't look like and just
- 20:02like mechanically sound that they're running also silent.
- 20:06Yeah yeah. When they came past just floated
- 20:08past and then you have the Stampede of everyone else coming
- 20:10past with like the have come from various different
- 20:13backgrounds stomping up the. Ground.
- 20:14What I also found interesting was Tim Vienish after they set
- 20:18the double S world record in an interview.
- 20:20One, I didn't realize how young he was.
- 20:23Yeah, he's not old self favour round.
- 20:25And two, him standing there like confidently saying I'm nowhere
- 20:29near my pinnacle. I'm going to run sub fifty solo.
- 20:32Yeah, and like hearing someone say that and like verbalizing it
- 20:38just goes show like you could take the runner who that running
- 20:42is their sport. That's like use Josh Kerr for
- 20:45example, imagine putting him into high rocks, like how good
- 20:47his repeatability in the running would be.
- 20:49And you just need a peripheral runner who's like not really
- 20:52made it, but it's really, really fast.
- 20:54They just need to do high rocks and within year, a year, year
- 20:58and a half someone's going sub 50 if.
- 20:59Someone's listening to this thinking that you know, their
- 21:01compromise running is the thing they need to fix do some of it,
- 21:07but get get better at running. It's a running race.
- 21:10It's a running race. Especially like when you bring
- 21:12in more elements. I mean, you look at the relay as
- 21:14a as an extreme example. The faster the runners, the
- 21:16faster the relay time. Take it down to two people.
- 21:20The faster the runners, the faster the And that's why we're
- 21:23starting to see the likes of I mean, Jay Williamson this year
- 21:26has been lighting up the double scene.
- 21:28Unbelief seems to be a double, double S dominant athlete.
- 21:30I'm sure for his sake he loves to be a solo, but if he's going
- 21:34to have all the success in Double S, then maybe doubling
- 21:36down on that, pardon the pun, would would be a smart move.
- 21:40And I think we will probably start to see the likes of Holly,
- 21:43maybe doing Holly Ansaski are doing really well in Double S
- 21:46and maybe not necessarily touching the solo's game.
- 21:48We're going to start to see that divide, which I think we've
- 21:51spoken about for a while, has been a long time coming, But
- 21:53with the way that the point system works next season as well
- 21:58to race the volume less because they're gonna have to focus on
- 22:01one of the other, maybe all that kind of thing.
- 22:03No, it's, it's super interesting.
- 22:04And also like you can feel the sport evolving because they're
- 22:08lobbying for the Olympics and the professionalism of like Red
- 22:12Bull Media House doing all of the media and the production,
- 22:16all of the, when the athletes are walking out into the Elite
- 22:1815, like into the race, it just feels professional.
- 22:21The broadcasted professional athletes racing together with
- 22:25the same nationality feels very Olympic.
- 22:28So it's, it's really exciting time for the sport and, and
- 22:31hopefully it continues to grow. And and these are kind of like
- 22:33the problems that we're seeing now start to get ironed out and
- 22:36it just becomes a bit smoother. So just why the podcast being
- 22:39about 20 minutes in, we're still doing the news.
- 22:41We've still got more tight. So, yeah, nice and tight.
- 22:45The next piece of news that I'm bringing, Christian Blumenthal,
- 22:48Oh, what a guy. A few episodes back, he was here
- 22:50with us and he's gone on and broken the half Iron Man world
- 22:54record. But yeah, what was mad about it?
- 22:57So first of all, three hours, 30 minutes for those of you that
- 22:59don't know what the distances are, and correct me when I get
- 23:03this wrong because I think you might be doing one later this
- 23:05year. The swim distance is in miles.
- 23:09Oh, don't do miles, OK, You do miles.
- 23:13I don't want to do that anymore. It's 1.9 K. 1.9 K OK 1.9 K swim
- 23:18into a 90K bike into a full well a 21 kilometer 1/2 marathon, 21
- 23:26kilometer run. So he did the swim in.
- 23:31Do you remember the actual time? Though all I was focusing on was
- 23:35how fast his half and half marathon was.
- 23:37So he did the swim in sub 30 minutes, not that fast for like
- 23:43that. I mean all of his spits
- 23:44basically were insane but the the bike he averaged 46 K an
- 23:47hour which is absurd. And then after doing all of
- 23:52that, he went in 1/2 marathon in 106.
- 23:56Just bonkers. The thing that's funny, maybe he
- 24:00listened to the podcast and did that that whole race in spite of
- 24:03what I said, because I said compared to top level runners,
- 24:10he's actually not that fast. Pinch assault, pinch assault.
- 24:13Because like if you put him versus a specialist half
- 24:18marathoner, he's like actually 5 minutes slower.
- 24:22Like on his on his day, but on his day I'm I'm taking that time
- 24:27off the back of a swim on a run, a swim on a bike.
- 24:30Sorry. So him fresh.
- 24:31I don't even know what he's capable.
- 24:33Of that's the thing though, I mean, we see like Alex Yee being
- 24:36a triathlete coming into it and running ridiculous time and you
- 24:40just got to wonder like. Because what he's close to the
- 24:42hour isn't. He yeah, yeah.
- 24:44And and that's what the elites are doing sub hour just about.
- 24:48Yeah, my, my, like, my gauge of how good someone is is when you
- 24:53see the pros that they're competing against commenting on
- 24:56the post. Yeah, where it's like, I see
- 24:58Hayden Wild and he's just like, dropped the goat emoji under
- 25:01under Chris and like, this is direct competition.
- 25:04Like he's sprinted past him and be like see ya.
- 25:07There was a post actually that wasn't done by either with the
- 25:10athletes, but mentioned how Hugo Fry run the fastest.
- 25:14Yeah. And was basically saying Hugo
- 25:17Fry, an influencer, is a really fast influencer because he ran
- 25:21the the run, the T100 run course, which I think was 20 K
- 25:25and in like pretty much an hour dead.
- 25:27And like, no Hugo Fry as a dog. Yeah, like he's actually a
- 25:32serious runner. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:33And I'm not embarrassed to use for that.
- 25:36Anyway, you've got. One, yeah.
- 25:38So I was going to say off the back of the commenting, what
- 25:40made me think of it was Matthew Vander Pol commented on Taddy
- 25:44Pogatcha very similar thing like because he won.
- 25:47What's it, what's it called? The San San Remo?
- 25:50I can't remember what it's called.
- 25:51He rat. He won another one day classic
- 25:54off the back of a couple of weeks ago, winning again.
- 25:56He beat Tom Pidcock by I'm going to say 4 centimeters on the line
- 26:03like a Sprint finish. Taddy fell off with 30
- 26:07kilometers ago, cracked his frame, bent the wheel so the
- 26:10discs were rubbing and still managed to they they went up the
- 26:14road. It was Matthew Vanderpool, Taddy
- 26:16Pogatcha, Tom Peacock, three poster boys of the sport
- 26:19cycling. They dropped Matthew and then I
- 26:23showed you that video of them coming down the down the hill.
- 26:25It's just like unfathomable how good he is at cycling.
- 26:30I'm just like. And the watts he can produce.
- 26:33I'm just scared that someone's going to take him out.
- 26:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like it's the only way of having
- 26:37a message. Yeah, yeah, it would be
- 26:39interesting to see how it goes. Yeah, no one can touch him.
- 26:42But then also like the cynic Amigos.
- 26:45Well. What's he touching?
- 26:48You said is. He on you said what is it?
- 26:51But we should look, we should definitely look at his training
- 26:53at some point because I think that'd.
- 26:55Be quite fun. Yes, we will do.
- 26:56There is one more .0 no, which kind of helps us cross over into
- 27:00grind my gears because one of my grind my gears this week is
- 27:03people that cheat. Oh nice.
- 27:04In sports I've seen a few people cheating at high rocks the past
- 27:07weekend, just doing things and getting away with them when they
- 27:10can. However, there's a big
- 27:13controversy CrossFit at the moment and I'm loving it.
- 27:16It's good to see do. You want to.
- 27:18I can't pronounce surname. I can't pronounce surname.
- 27:21Boving. There you go.
- 27:23So there's a the guy on Instagram called Hillafit and
- 27:27basically he just scours the Internet.
- 27:30I don't think this is his. Job No, he doesn't have to do it
- 27:32anymore. Everyone just tags it.
- 27:33Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, well, he goes through tagged
- 27:36videos of people doing qualifiers, whether it's for
- 27:39levels like the CrossFit Games or the Open or the
- 27:42quarterfinals. Doesn't matter to regional
- 27:44competitions to Hyrox is doing war balls badly and he basically
- 27:48just slates them and then does a load of detective work to figure
- 27:51out if someone's cheating. Someone sent him this video
- 27:54because no one had ever heard of her.
- 27:55She's got like sub 3000 followers on Instagram and came
- 27:58second in the 26.3 with a ridiculous time and basically he
- 28:04just pulled up the video and found out that she'd like
- 28:07overlaid the clock and she was using a training bar rather than
- 28:10a real but and it was all a bit fishy.
- 28:13All of this stuff happened anyway.
- 28:14He called her out, found out she was cheating and I think she's
- 28:16been served a four year competition.
- 28:19Ban did. She have to like prove it again.
- 28:21I think he asked her to do it again.
- 28:24I think I I haven't actually watched his full YouTube video
- 28:27on it, I've just heard peripherally people complaining
- 28:30about it in the gym. I think so.
- 28:31What I have seen from it as well was he did his video and then
- 28:35she did a video screen recording his video, basically like
- 28:40mocking him and trying to say she was cheating.
- 28:43If you're cheating, bad idea. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:45The Internet does not have the Internet will serve the justice.
- 28:48Yeah, for sure. And it did exactly that.
- 28:49So yeah, she's got a four year ban.
- 28:51It's tough. Which is, yeah, big time.
- 28:53Tough, but again, like you're cheating, yeah, but a similar
- 28:56ban if you were doping it's also.
- 29:00Is that bad enough? Because if she wasn't good
- 29:02enough to be that good in the 1st place, she probably wasn't
- 29:04going to get there. Yeah, but I'm just obviously all
- 29:10of the first stages of the qualification for the CrossFit
- 29:12Games are done in your affiliate and you're done filming yourself
- 29:15and you submit the video. But at some point you do in
- 29:18person and at some point you get found out because you're not the
- 29:22person you say you are. Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 29:23But even if you're filming it, do you not still have to have a
- 29:26judge there? Yeah.
- 29:27So who the hell was the judge? Right.
- 29:29And then it's just like, it's that's what, yeah, there's your
- 29:33affiliate is no longer in good standing with CrossFit, let's
- 29:36put it that way. Because unless you've like,
- 29:38you've basically just got your mate to come down with a piece
- 29:40of paper and be like, I'm just going to.
- 29:42But it's sort of, it's fascinating that people think
- 29:45that they can get away with that if you're going to cheat, just
- 29:47like subtly cheat. So the biggest news from all of
- 29:50this is that Elsa is now a high rocks athlete.
- 29:54I think that's probably what we're going to say.
- 29:57No, no more. Might as well, but yeah, have
- 30:00you got any? Well, actually should we crack
- 30:02on with your topic and we'll come back to go on my gears.
- 30:05OK, that sounds like a sounds good to me.
- 30:07So for those that have got to this point, we are talking as
- 30:10the title says about Keely Hodgkinson.
- 30:12So we're following on with our how does ex athlete train?
- 30:16And given the fact that she is just an absolute weapon breaking
- 30:20world records at the moment, Kee Hodgkinson makes perfect sense
- 30:24for us to talk. So you're going to take the lead
- 30:26on this one and I'm just going to throw random.
- 30:29I feel like to go, this is a a long time coming because we when
- 30:33we talk about athletics in certain contexts, there's
- 30:36basically two people we talk about or two people I talk
- 30:38about. It's either Joshua or it's
- 30:40Keely, depending on what's happening in the athletics
- 30:43world, maybe sometimes Usain Bolt.
- 30:46But Keely Hodgkinson, she's only 24.
- 30:49She's won 2 Olympic medals. She won a silver.
- 30:51Now she's won gold. She's reigning Olympic champion
- 30:53over the 800 meters. She's got the world indoor 800
- 30:58meter record and she's the sixth fastest ever outdoors, 6th or
- 31:06eight fastest. I think it's sixth fastest and
- 31:08she's only 24. Go on her Wikipedia, just Scroll
- 31:11down and see all of the medals, all of the accolades.
- 31:13She's, she's an incredible athlete, a specimen.
- 31:16So I think it's going to be fun to break down her training.
- 31:19So if we dive into it and just start basically breaking it down
- 31:23and looking at it, I think when you go back and listen to
- 31:27Charlie's episode and the episode that we did on Kristen
- 31:30Blumenfeld, basically it was just volume, volume, volume,
- 31:33volume, volume. They do a lot of training.
- 31:35It's an endurance sport. Keely's training for an event
- 31:38which is like Max 2 minutes long.
- 31:41So what you'll see is that the the limited volume and she's
- 31:45training a lot more quality and a lot of the reps are very very
- 31:50short. Because what she's trying to
- 31:52replicate is the sensation of the lactic build up that she's
- 31:55getting over an 800 meter race. And if you don't appreciate what
- 31:58that feels like, go down to the track and run 2 loops as fast as
- 32:02you can, and then you won't want to do much else for the.
- 32:04Rest of the day try and run one. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:07Yeah, yeah, most people are getting lactate by like 200
- 32:10meters. Oh yeah.
- 32:11And then you will do that. And how fast they're going you.
- 32:13Used to run 400. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:15And that used to be my. Least there's there's lots of
- 32:17PTSD from researching how she was training and listening to
- 32:21clips of her online talking about her training and the
- 32:24lactic and lying on the track for 30 minutes after session.
- 32:27So it's been quite fun to go down memory lane.
- 32:30But this, this this snippet was stolen from Athletics Weekly.
- 32:35I think it was from her actual coach, who's Trevor Painter.
- 32:38And they're all based up in the north of England in Manchester.
- 32:41There's a group of them that train together, but I think this
- 32:44was from about 2021 and it's from a winter block, so that
- 32:49she's probably doing less fast stuff and building more aerobic
- 32:53base. But we'll be able to depict and
- 32:54maybe see what she's does now and also in season.
- 33:00But if we just go through it and feel free to button if you've
- 33:03got anything but on a Monday, she's looking at something like
- 33:0760 minutes low aerobic. And it's not just low aerobic,
- 33:11it's also low impact. Because with such a high caliber
- 33:16athlete, the last thing you want to do as your as a coach is
- 33:19injure her. So it's like limiting the amount
- 33:21of impact she's getting across the week.
- 33:22So she's doing that either on our favorite, the cross trainer,
- 33:26or swimming. And I think with a little bit of
- 33:28Googling also, she has a bit of a background in swimming.
- 33:31Maybe when she was a lot younger and then her dad kind of
- 33:34persuaded her to pursue athletics.
- 33:37But I assume she's probably quite a good swimmer.
- 33:39She's also doing some core work now.
- 33:42The core work resonates a lot with me because when I trained
- 33:45on track, we just did so much core.
- 33:49And when you think about the mechanics of running and the
- 33:51stability, especially when you're getting into the back end
- 33:54of a race where there's a lot of lactic, the analogy we used to
- 33:57say it's, it's almost like you're running through treacle
- 33:59down the home straight and there's so much mechanical
- 34:02breakdown that if you have a sloppy core, that just gets
- 34:05perpetuated right, so. You know, and I've spoken about
- 34:07this on the podcast before, I have an anterior pelvic tilt.
- 34:11Yeah, yeah, I only became aware of that when I started doing
- 34:14Sprint training in my last couple of years when I was
- 34:16outlaw for university, because I was going to the sessions.
- 34:20We weren't necessarily, Yeah, we weren't actually necessarily
- 34:22doing like some core training to begin with.
- 34:25All I recognised was I would get home from every single one of
- 34:28those sessions and my core would just be so tired.
- 34:31And then I started to think about it and we then started
- 34:33incorporating some of these like core sessions into sessions
- 34:36doing dead bugs and things like that, the end of pretty much
- 34:39every upper body session. And then I started to actually
- 34:41see I can actually hold this position and this running.
- 34:46From a little bit longer really, because that's not falling
- 34:48apart. Yeah, it's, it's very
- 34:49interesting. And like, I think also, and it
- 34:52doesn't say here, but I'd assume a lot of the course stuff
- 34:54they're doing is also very dynamic, very explosive.
- 34:57And they'll be using light Med balls.
- 34:59I don't know if you've seen any of the videos of like the groups
- 35:01training together on the track, but they're basically eating the
- 35:05the D ball as high as they can, chucking the Med ball against
- 35:08the wall. But there's also very specific
- 35:10strength and conditioning where they'll throw Med ball into like
- 35:15if you're watching on YouTube, you can see me acting this out
- 35:18into like their, their stride pattern, that kind of thing, or
- 35:21like throw the Med ball straight into a Sprint, that kind of
- 35:24thing. So it's a lot more dynamic than
- 35:25just, oh, we're going to lie on the floor and do crunches
- 35:28basically. But I'm sure she's doing a lot
- 35:31of core. And I know this is a bit dated
- 35:33now, but I'm sure core is a large parcel of her circuits
- 35:36basically. So then and again, you'd be
- 35:40probably be surprised at how little she's actually running
- 35:43across the course of the week. And we always talk about like
- 35:46people doing crazy volume on training for a marathon, doing
- 35:49200 K keys, doing like very little, very little volume
- 35:54because she's trying to develop fast twitch fibers and like that
- 35:57tolerance to lactate rather than being able to just go slow and
- 36:01long. Also because of the intensity of
- 36:02the running when she does. Run the recovery time.
- 36:04Yeah, yeah, way harder. Yeah, for sure.
- 36:06Quality. So track Tuesday, Tuesday
- 36:08session. And again, this is going to be
- 36:11so specific and they're not always going to do the same
- 36:13session on a Tuesday. And the sessions will progress
- 36:16across the block, but the examples they've given him
- 36:20anywhere from six hundreds to tempo efforts to three hundreds.
- 36:24And then once they've done their track work, which we'll talk
- 36:27about in a second, they'll do another 30 minutes slow and easy
- 36:30probably on the cross trainer just to build that, that volume
- 36:34maybe closer towards the season. And I could be wrong.
- 36:37You can go either way with this. Maybe closer towards the season
- 36:40that 30 minutes on the cross trainer turns into some more
- 36:43time on the feet. But maybe not.
- 36:45I'm just speculating there. But the, the efforts that
- 36:48they're doing there, they do very, very short efforts with
- 36:53lots and lots of recovery. Because what they want, like I
- 36:55said at the start, is to focus on quality reps.
- 36:59So there's no point in doing a 300 really hard, have one minute
- 37:03and then try and do 300. They want repeatability.
- 37:07So it'd be a 300m effort. And then the rest periods could
- 37:10be like 7 minutes long. And you look at that on face
- 37:13value and you go, that doesn't sound that bad, but because
- 37:17you're fully recovered, fully recovered as much as you
- 37:20probably could after doing a hard 300 and then repeating that
- 37:24again, it's just brutal. Like the training is truly
- 37:26horrible when. When we were mentioning that we
- 37:29were doing this pre episode, it absolutely reminded me of one of
- 37:34the sessions that you programmed for me and some friends to do,
- 37:38which was an echo bike test where basically it was like Max
- 37:41effort echo bike for 30 seconds or something.
- 37:44And then I think the rest time we had, because there was quite
- 37:46a lot of us was, it was like 4 minutes.
- 37:48And I went to literally on the podcast and I went to say was
- 37:51only four minutes, which is wild because if you're listening to
- 37:54this and you're hearing 30 seconds of effort and four
- 37:55minute rings, that really doesn't sound bad.
- 37:57But, and I think we heard her saying this in a podcast like
- 38:00your head is banging, you feel like you're going to throw up
- 38:04and everything. I felt hungover.
- 38:09Yeah, yeah. Mid session.
- 38:10Oh yeah, yeah. Let alone end of session.
- 38:12It's it's really interesting, like the sensation that the
- 38:16waste product build up creates like that lactic creates in the
- 38:19body. But one of my favorite videos
- 38:21from that exact session on my phone, basically I just scroll
- 38:26around the gym and there's bodies just lying.
- 38:28There's people outside, there's people on all fours outside,
- 38:31there's people with their feet against the wall.
- 38:33There's no one on an echo bike and we're probably not even
- 38:36halfway through the session. And I'm like, it was, it's
- 38:40always that the output sessions like that are the hardest ones.
- 38:44And sprinters, we'll call 800 meters a Sprint.
- 38:48The sprinters will be able to resonate with that the most.
- 38:51Like it's crazy. So then we move on to Wednesday.
- 38:55This in terms of what she's actually doing, it's 30 minutes
- 38:57steady run. So she's going for a nice little
- 39:00jog outside and then she does her gym session.
- 39:03I'd love to see an actual gym session that she does, but I'd
- 39:07imagine she's doing lots of plyometric work.
- 39:10She's probably doing some sort of compounds lifting, maybe it's
- 39:14a hinge or pull off the floor like a deadlift or an RDL.
- 39:17Then probably some sort of squat or maybe lunge.
- 39:21But then I'd imagine she's also doing some sort of variation of
- 39:25power clean, developing explosive power like that.
- 39:28When we do plyometrics specific to sprinting, a lot of the
- 39:32drills you actually do with hurdles, whether you're bounding
- 39:35over the hurdles or just stepping over the hurdles.
- 39:38And just one, you're creating explosive power.
- 39:41But two, you're also developing better kind of mobility in the
- 39:44hip and flexibility in the hip, which is also going to
- 39:46contribute to a better running economy.
- 39:50But one of my favorite things to talk about is sports specific
- 39:54Olympic weightlifting, because lots of people like to rage bait
- 39:57on on on social media where they'll see.
- 40:00Someone like Kili Hodgkinson for example.
- 40:02I've used FEM COBOL for a lot of examples as well doing something
- 40:06that replicates almost what a power clean could should look
- 40:09like but it looks a little bit funky.
- 40:12And the comments, the trolls in there being like, this is such
- 40:14bad technique. And I'm like, as long as they
- 40:16don't hurt themselves, what they're trying to achieve is
- 40:18power output and more explosivity.
- 40:21So it doesn't actually matter. But I'm sure she's doing lots of
- 40:23Olympic weightlifting like that. One of the things I imagine that
- 40:26she's probably doing, again, this is taken from the
- 40:28experience of what I saw at Loughborough when I was there.
- 40:32Interesting. She went to Loughborough
- 40:33College, so if if I saw this happening in the elite hours of
- 40:36Power Base, I imagine that she might have been doing these
- 40:38various sessions. But a lot of college students
- 40:41come to. If they're, if they're college
- 40:43students, I, she was when basically college, it was an
- 40:46easy way to give someone a scholarship without them being
- 40:49on scholarship. I can't be quoted saying that
- 40:55when they were in there, a lot of what they would be doing if
- 40:58they were doing squats, for example, would be a portion of
- 41:01that squat. So I would sell the safety bars
- 41:04and they would maybe be doing what some troll on the Internet
- 41:07would say is quarter squat, but they would be doing variations
- 41:11even within the squat ranges or the lunge ranges or anything.
- 41:14So what might be happening, and this is one that I saw quite
- 41:17commonly, was you would set the safety bars on the squat rack up
- 41:20at quarter squat high. You'd load the bar up super
- 41:24heavy. They would then go under like a
- 41:26split squat stance and they would suddenly take the load up
- 41:31to the top, swat legs and catch the bar before it hit the safety
- 41:35bars, basically working the explosivity.
- 41:37But then also the ability to hold the force.
- 41:39And you've said this before many, many other athletes and
- 41:42many other ways of training. But like, your body is only as
- 41:44strong as the force it can absorb.
- 41:46So I love that when they are doing that swap of the leg,
- 41:50they're then training their other leg that hasn't been
- 41:52explosive to still be able to absorb the load.
- 41:54And when you think about running, there's two things
- 41:56going on. There's force production,
- 41:57there's force absorption. And so you're doing that in a
- 42:00highly specific, highly loaded environment because what you
- 42:04don't understand in running is the sheer load that you put
- 42:08through your ankles and through your Achilles tendon, especially
- 42:11if you're doing shorter distances, you're really like
- 42:13priming that. And that again comes into like
- 42:16doing the power cleans, but sometimes they might have a
- 42:18whole session of power cleans and then I imagine there's some
- 42:20sessions where they're just doing hand cleans.
- 42:22Yeah, just to work that. To be honest with you, I think
- 42:26it's like a risk reward. Most of these people or most of
- 42:30these athletes either go from hang or go from blocks because
- 42:33there's like reduce the risk of pulling from the floor.
- 42:36Again, you've got one of the most high caliber athletes in
- 42:40the world. You want a wrapper in cotton
- 42:43wool, She's got big sponsorship deals.
- 42:45She needs to race. She needs to be in the
- 42:47limelight. You don't want to get her
- 42:49injured. So yes, you need to make sure
- 42:51she's resilient and tolerant to all of these stresses that she's
- 42:55getting when she's racing. But also, what's the point in
- 42:57risking her or let's do a heavy deadlift off the floor.
- 43:00It's not worth it, like risk reward.
- 43:03But moving on to Thursday, this is probably the one that I'm I'm
- 43:06most interested in. The example that her coach gave
- 43:10was 3 * 8 minutes in the morning.
- 43:14I don't know what rest that's going to be off, but 8 minutes
- 43:18is probably on the very end of the VO2 Max spectrum.
- 43:23So I'd imagine she's getting probably close to 1 to one rest,
- 43:29but probably at least 5 minutes of rest off an 8 minute effort.
- 43:32But when you're running around the track even, and I think this
- 43:37is like the, the simplicity is kind of the beautiful thing
- 43:41about it. And I remember back when I was
- 43:43training for 400 meters, we weren't running around our
- 43:45efforts, looking at our watch being like what pace we running.
- 43:48It was like coach blow the whistle and you just absolutely
- 43:51gun it as hard as you can. And you basically just there's a
- 43:54long line of you and your feet are slapping the track and
- 43:56you're basically hugging the inside and you're going to go as
- 43:59hard as you can. And it's basically every man for
- 44:01himself and it doesn't matter what the time is.
- 44:03You run through, the coach has got the timer, he's like 3637,
- 44:07and you just lie on the floor for 5 minutes, get up and do it
- 44:10again. It's like don't worry about the
- 44:12pacing. And I can imagine that's
- 44:13probably the same thing that they're doing in their VO2 Max
- 44:15efforts. I think she calls us the
- 44:18sessions like lactic killers or something like something
- 44:20similar. It does what it says in the tin.
- 44:23Basically, just go as hard as you can for as long as you can,
- 44:27lie on the floor for a little bit, get back up there again.
- 44:30And that's like, honestly, sometimes I feel like training
- 44:35and fitness has just become too scientific.
- 44:37And we've spoken about that so many times on the podcast,
- 44:39haven't we? Where it's just like just go and
- 44:41run really fast for as long as you can and then when you can't
- 44:44anymore, stop. Yeah, so for the person.
- 44:47Maybe I'll write a book. For the person who's listening
- 44:49to it, don't worry, there's a really good one you should read.
- 44:51For the person who's listening to this, who doesn't really
- 44:54understand the need, or maybe they don't really dabble in
- 44:59sports which require lactic, lactic efforts, or maybe they
- 45:02do, but they don't do them because why would I do it where
- 45:04you see the benefit if I can just get loads of benefit of
- 45:07doing loads of zone too? But it's a tolerance training
- 45:11and an efficiency thing. So I think there's two sides to
- 45:14it, as you know, with the name of the podcast, the Mindsets
- 45:17podcast. But like there's the mental side
- 45:19of training your brain to be like this, OK, I can tolerate
- 45:23this pain. I can tolerate the the horrible
- 45:26acid heat feeling that I've got going on in my legs or wherever
- 45:30it is. But there's also then training
- 45:33your body to efficiently clear that or use the lactate as fuel,
- 45:38which I imagine in an athlete that's running a distance, which
- 45:43for their maximal output is going to be so, so painful.
- 45:48It's something they're going to have to do pretty regularly to
- 45:50get used to that physically and mentally.
- 45:53Yeah, it's actually a really interesting one because I don't
- 45:56know where I saw the her quoted on it, but she was on a podcast
- 46:01and the podcast host seemed to be surprised that as an 800m
- 46:06runner she wasn't just doing loads and loads of 800 meter
- 46:08reps. And maybe for someone who
- 46:11doesn't have experience training for athletics or training in
- 46:15sport, that would be surprising. But in the same way that US
- 46:19training for high rocks, we wouldn't just continuously go
- 46:22and do high rock simulations, which I know some people do do
- 46:25for training, but it's probably not the most effective way.
- 46:29But what she was saying was when she's on the track, all of the
- 46:33efforts are very short and they're very intense because she
- 46:37wants, or at least her coach wants her to associate the track
- 46:42with fast, hard effort. So when she does eventually go
- 46:46and compete at the end of her training block, she steps onto
- 46:49the track. And even if there's like that
- 46:50subconscious association, OK, it's wig, it's go time now
- 46:55because I'm on the track. And I resonate with that because
- 46:59I can't walk past an athletics track now without getting
- 47:01butterflies in my stomach. And my dad, who also ran track,
- 47:05he was an 800m runner slightly longer than me.
- 47:08He, I remember we, he was taking me to go and play rugby when I
- 47:12was younger. And by the rugby pitch, there
- 47:14was a track that you always had to cross.
- 47:16And he always used to say that to me.
- 47:17He was like always get butterflies in my stomach kind
- 47:19of like 40 years on from when he was racing as well, which is
- 47:23like, it's just clearly some deep rooted PTSD.
- 47:27But I'm sure it's the same for her when she goes to the track,
- 47:29she's like, I know this is going to be such a tough session.
- 47:32Like it's really interesting to to to some.
- 47:34Payments you get butterflies. They like some of the track
- 47:36sessions and I I wasn't doing tracking the same way.
- 47:39I've I've been to the track far less often that you have.
- 47:42I probably still get nervous with the idea of doing a track.
- 47:45Session. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:47But I've had some amazing mornings and evenings doing
- 47:51traffic. Like I walk away from them.
- 47:53Oh yeah, high on life, but go into them so dead online.
- 47:57Yeah, yeah, yeah, sometimes that's the way.
- 47:59But that's the same with all exercise.
- 48:00Right, I think, and that's a nice take away.
- 48:02So finishing off that Thursday. So she's done those hard
- 48:05efforts, maybe like VO2 Max efforts in the morning.
- 48:08She then hops on the cross trainer.
- 48:10She loves the cross trainer more than Charlie Bottereau.
- 48:12Look at this setting the trends Saturday, then longest session.
- 48:19So like a progressive run or just running through different
- 48:22zones. I think it's just like
- 48:23developing a bit more volume there.
- 48:25But this is this is very specific to winter training.
- 48:27I think getting closer into the summer or the the beginning of
- 48:31the year when the season's starting to ramp up, they're
- 48:34getting into the indoor season. A lot of them will treat indoor
- 48:37season as a little bit of just like a tester to see where they
- 48:39are. And I think that's why she's
- 48:41been so confident in saying I'm going to set the world record
- 48:44for the 800 meters outdoors this year because she's already set
- 48:46at indoors. And like, it's a big claim to
- 48:49make when you're a young 24 year old.
- 48:50But she's got the accolades to back it up.
- 48:53And I cannot wait for her to go and break that 800 meters
- 48:55because I think it's coming very shortly.
- 48:58And that will be an exciting day for everyone.
- 49:00This is a bit of a rogue question as an outsider of the
- 49:02athletics. The indoor traffic is 200
- 49:04meters. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:07Are you rank? Yes.
- 49:08Do you really account for that in the way you train for each of
- 49:11those as competitions because one you're also doing more turns
- 49:14and you've got the well you do have help of the bank versus
- 49:18being outdoor than a 400 meter flat track where wind can also
- 49:21play. Yeah.
- 49:23I mean, I don't, I don't think you do anything to account for
- 49:25it differently. You just got to appreciate that
- 49:28when you're running on it, it's slightly steeper and it's
- 49:31slightly tighter. But for the 8 hundreds, I think
- 49:36even the four hundreds indoors, after the first lap you will
- 49:40come down into the one lane. So it pays to be faster so you
- 49:44can be at the front of the train basically.
- 49:46But you wouldn't do anything different.
- 49:47You might train slightly differently for 400 meters.
- 49:53I don't think we ever ran 400 in the indoor season.
- 49:57We'd either run longer, so we'd run a 600 or we'd run shorter
- 50:01300. And because I had no competency
- 50:06in anything longer than 401 meters, I was always very, very
- 50:10set on either running 200 or 300, even though my coach wanted
- 50:12me to run 600. But we, we, I'm obviously not
- 50:17even in the same, I don't know, same sphere as Kelly Hodgkinson.
- 50:22But it's like just a way of testing all your fitness is for
- 50:26the outdoor season, which is probably the more important one.
- 50:28And people will look at an athlete of her caliber and
- 50:32they'll probably skip over the indoor medals because it's the
- 50:35outdoor ones that really count. Yeah, which I I kind of get like
- 50:38they're the ones that get with glory.
- 50:39And one question that I've got though, is this would be her
- 50:43offseason training. And I imagine there are some
- 50:45changes, as we've said, there wouldn't be some changes for in
- 50:48season and summer training. But what would tapering look
- 50:53like for considering there's like the Diamond League?
- 50:55Yeah, yeah, something. But then you've got other
- 50:57tournaments that get thrown. In, yeah, yeah, that's a good
- 50:59question. So how would you assume and I,
- 51:03I'm don't reckon you've got this in front of you, so how would
- 51:05you assume based off your knowledge or what you would
- 51:07think is a good idea for her in that sense?
- 51:10So what I assume will have happened well before the season
- 51:14started, so back end of last year, probably in the winter,
- 51:18her and her coach will have sat down and gone.
- 51:21This is the calendar. These are the events.
- 51:23And again, it depends on what level of athlete you are.
- 51:26But for Keely, she can go and walk into any event she wants.
- 51:29And sponsors are probably dying for her to go and race at
- 51:32Diamond League. So what she's doing now is
- 51:34probably going that's a cool race that I want to, I want to
- 51:38enter that's got good prize money.
- 51:40I want to enter that. But also I want to do the indoor
- 51:44world champs and I want to do the Europeans and I want to do
- 51:46the big comps and we're also building towards the Olympics in
- 51:49another two years time or whatever.
- 51:51So then they'll just build their season around that.
- 51:54So as a result, hopefully what they haven't done is try to cram
- 51:57too much into a short space of time so it's not constantly race
- 52:02taper, race taper, race taper. It's race, see where I'm at,
- 52:06make the adjustments over X amount of weeks.
- 52:09Then I can take her down for, I don't know, Diamond League in
- 52:12Monaco or wherever she wants to go and win a load of prize
- 52:14money. But also she's probably not
- 52:17necessarily so motivated by prize money now because she's
- 52:20got big Nike sponsorships and other brand deals, etcetera,
- 52:23etcetera. She's fortunate in that
- 52:24position. But tapering would be very
- 52:27similar to how we might taper for our racing.
- 52:29Whereas you'd probably have pretty tough intensity all the
- 52:33way up until maybe 4 days. And then you might do some sort
- 52:37of shake out, some strides, that kind of thing, and then rest
- 52:42maybe one or two days before you actually compete.
- 52:44And I think that's probably a good model for anyone competing.
- 52:48Yeah, because I mean her whole program, as we said is based
- 52:51around like quality being the number one.
- 52:53Yeah. So if you're not going to have a
- 52:55quality session, a bit more rest is actually more beneficial,
- 52:57100% like competition. One of the things that I had AI
- 53:03had a really good question for you around something to do with
- 53:08athletics. I've completely which is a bad
- 53:11job as a, but I think go as you mentioned going into the
- 53:18Olympics in a few years time, how much focus would there be on
- 53:20that right now? I think it's always as a as a
- 53:25I've. Remembered my question.
- 53:26I think that's the beauty of it and This is why things like
- 53:30tennis being in the Olympics frustrates me because I don't
- 53:33necessarily think that Alcaras now is thinking I can't wait for
- 53:37the Olympics. Whereas if you're an athlete
- 53:40that is like the absolute pinnacle and that is the only
- 53:44thing you want to win. If I don't win anything else, I
- 53:46want 1 Olympic gold medal and I want it in my in my trophy
- 53:50cabinet, even if the rest of the shelves are empty.
- 53:52Because that is you go down in like athletics folklore.
- 53:55So I think everything is targeted towards that and you
- 54:00only have limited cycles as an athlete of the Olympics.
- 54:05So it's like Keely's already done 2 Olympics.
- 54:08Hopefully she has at least two more, maybe three more.
- 54:11But after that you're like, there's going to be new talent.
- 54:13She's going to be getting slightly older.
- 54:15She'll be like what, 12 years older?
- 54:17She'll be getting close to like 36.
- 54:21Quick maths, yeah. So it's like at that point she's
- 54:25already done probably. I don't want to speak on her.
- 54:28Well, this was this was actually what my question was going to be
- 54:31is we've been speaking a lot about endurance athletes and
- 54:33typically speaking, endurance athletes actually reached their
- 54:36prime sort of in their mid 30s to late 30s even some have had
- 54:39success in their 40s. What is the sort of perceived?
- 54:44Prime, I'd say she's entering it now, which is mental because
- 54:50she's already got an Olympic gold medal and the, the, the
- 54:53fact that she's well, she's British record holder, she's now
- 54:57indoor 800 meter world record holder and she's the sixth
- 55:01fastest 800m runner ever. And some of those times should
- 55:06be 100% negated because the people yeah, yeah, would very,
- 55:11very much don't know who holds the 800 record, whether or not
- 55:16it's legit or not, who knows. But like, she's already done
- 55:19that and she's only 24 and I think now she's getting to her
- 55:23prime. So her prime racing years are
- 55:25probably now between 24 to 27. So she's got three big years.
- 55:30She's got LA. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 55:32And that's she's got to be looking at that going.
- 55:35I don't just want to win it. I want to go with fireworks and
- 55:38I want to set the world record literally.
- 55:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:40And like cement herself, she, I mean, she's already probably the
- 55:43best ever British 800 or middle distance runner, but like to win
- 55:49another gold medal to back it up, go back-to-back is huge.
- 55:53But yeah, I mean, like typically for that sort of distance and
- 55:56that sort of sport, I'd say anywhere in your early 20s to
- 55:59mid to late 20s. And I think you come into like
- 56:02your endurance here and maybe like 27 to early 30s probably.
- 56:07I, I read somewhere, I don't know if I believe it, but like
- 56:09your strength is your most aptitude to strength is your
- 56:15early 20s as well. So she's kind of strength, power
- 56:19with her explosivity, with her sprinting is in and around
- 56:22there, I'd say. And I feel like as well, the
- 56:23other thing that again, throwing it back to the side, there's two
- 56:26sides of this. But I think why I've started to
- 56:29understand as I've grown up with athletes is that I always used
- 56:32to think that athletes had their prime when they were like 21.
- 56:34To 20. Yeah, yeah.
- 56:35And then I actually realised that a lot of athletes are like
- 56:37physically in their prime, maybe around then or just after them,
- 56:41but then the mental side has to catch up because their raw
- 56:45ability for some athletes, they're so talented physically.
- 56:48Yeah, they they are winning by that point.
- 56:50Yeah, Yeah. And then they actually get even
- 56:52better when they mentally catch up.
- 56:54I forgot his name. I was.
- 56:55I wanted to mention him. Did you see the kid who played
- 56:57for Arsenal, who was 16? He scored.
- 56:59He's the youngest ever Premier League goal scorer.
- 57:02He scored only 16. He played like a couple of weeks
- 57:04ago, 16 Premier League. So oh, no, I did see that.
- 57:08Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right, mental.
- 57:10That's crazy. But all of the stuff around like
- 57:13safeguarding and he has to be in his own separate changing room
- 57:16because he can't be in the changing room with the men's
- 57:17team and he's like he's going and playing with Arsenal, but he
- 57:20has to also do his GCSE. It's like it's all, it's all
- 57:23mental. But like you say, for someone
- 57:26like Keely, when you're put into the cauldron of an 800 meter
- 57:32world final, like at the Olympics, she's already shown so
- 57:37much maturity to go. I'm going to control this race
- 57:40and I'm not going to get flustered if someone tries to
- 57:42push hard. But she's in a fortunate
- 57:44position where she's just so much quicker than everyone else
- 57:47and everyone's just basically scared of her.
- 57:50So she just basically, she just runs to the front, runs as hard
- 57:54as she can, and no one can catch her up.
- 57:55So she doesn't have to worry too much about the tactics.
- 57:58But I think as she gains more and more experience, life
- 58:01experience and race experience, that will just compound and
- 58:04she'll get even better and she'll be even more untouchable,
- 58:06which is like the crazy thing. I've got 2 questions which are
- 58:09very very different. One question is just to clarify,
- 58:12in athletics, when is the offseason?
- 58:15How long is it? Yeah, good question.
- 58:16So obviously the offseason I'd say, because let's say if there
- 58:22was an Olympics every year, that's like what you're peeking
- 58:25towards. So if there's not an Olympics,
- 58:27they'll be world champs or European champs.
- 58:30And that's usually in the summer around August time.
- 58:34I think that's the same with the the Summer Games, the Olympics
- 58:37and basically off the back of the Olympics, that's when
- 58:40offseason starts. So you're offseason, you take
- 58:43some time off probably September and then start going into your
- 58:47winter block in like November time, October, November time.
- 58:52The way I look at it, it's not probably not helpful if you're
- 58:54not in the UK, but it's kind of like when uni starts is like the
- 58:58start of your offseason when you start your offseason training.
- 59:01So October time through all the way until basically maybe March,
- 59:07April, unless you do the indoor season.
- 59:11For me, who was just an average athlete, I didn't put much
- 59:14emphasis on the indoor season because I don't really want to
- 59:17get much out of it. I want to run outside when it's
- 59:19sunny so my I do a few indoor races but the majority of my
- 59:23actual racing started like April time.
- 59:26Probably April, May. Yeah, it's quite, it's actually
- 59:28quite long. Yeah, yeah, you've got lots of
- 59:29time. OK, that's interesting.
- 59:31I didn't know that. The other question I've got is
- 59:32if you woke up tomorrow. Yeah.
- 59:34And you're Ki Hodgkinson. Yeah.
- 59:37Would you choose to retire before you started slowing down,
- 59:41or would you try to keep winning while slowing down and then call
- 59:45it a day when you weren't winning?
- 59:46What? So I have to base off my now?
- 59:50If I woke up tomorrow as Katie, I have to retire.
- 59:54No, no, you, you can retire when you're hitting your best times.
- 1:00:00So like so like she could go, so you could go and break, but.
- 1:00:03It's all it's all like hypothetical.
- 1:00:04Yeah, yeah, the whole thing is hypothetical.
- 1:00:06So you could wake up tomorrow. You're Katie Hodgkinson.
- 1:00:09You get to choose when you retire.
- 1:00:10You either retire after you've run your fastest time, or you
- 1:00:15retire when you're now actually having to race against people
- 1:00:20because you've got a slower and younger people are coming up and
- 1:00:22like you're not actually winning.
- 1:00:23I'd I'd gun for the world record and then I'd retire.
- 1:00:26You retire straight. Away because there's so many
- 1:00:29people who hit the peak and you're but it's so hard to know
- 1:00:35when your peak is your peak. And it's very easy for me to say
- 1:00:38this because I've I've never had a peak.
- 1:00:39I'm just, I've just been shy the whole side.
- 1:00:43But if if I was Kelly Hodgkinson, that's what I'd do.
- 1:00:47I'd just like go out with a bang.
- 1:00:49I'd freaking just, yeah, probably double middle finger
- 1:00:53the crowd and just be like I'm the GOAT.
- 1:00:55Yeah. And then?
- 1:00:55No one's ever going to be better than me.
- 1:00:57Yeah. But you never know, like over
- 1:01:00the next couple of years, there could be some new raw talent who
- 1:01:02comes up and like, you want to see them go head to head and she
- 1:01:05might want to race them. But she at that point in her
- 1:01:08career, she won't be motivated by money.
- 1:01:10There's there's so few, especially like British, like
- 1:01:14British middle distance runners or like spent runners who are in
- 1:01:18a financial position to not have to worry.
- 1:01:20There's so few in the whole of athletics history just because
- 1:01:24there's so little funding and there's been so few like real
- 1:01:28generational talents, that she's in such a fortunate position
- 1:01:31that she'll just be able to walk away from the sport whenever she
- 1:01:34wants and be basically fine for the rest of her life.
- 1:01:37It's so interesting, like different sports, but seemingly
- 1:01:39similar sports and like who we've spoken about in the last,
- 1:01:43I think four or five episodes, even going back to the Winter
- 1:01:46Olympics when we were talking about this sort of sprinting and
- 1:01:48athletic side of the skeleton. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:50But just like the absolute opposite ends of the spectrum
- 1:01:53for training, even though the training on paper has some of
- 1:01:56the same methodology and like there's a lot of running going
- 1:01:58on, but the length of time, very different things.
- 1:02:02But then also like you've got the cross trainer and so many
- 1:02:04people's program. And I remember going to my first
- 1:02:07year when I was kidding, being like those things, get them out.
- 1:02:10Yeah, no one. Wants waste of space.
- 1:02:12Absolutely. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:02:13Yeah, I remember doing that as well.
- 1:02:14But no, no, it's my most used piece of equipment.
- 1:02:17Yeah, literally. But yeah, it's it's another
- 1:02:21interesting episode going through what some of these
- 1:02:24athletes are doing as a job. Also, like understanding that
- 1:02:28while that sounds sick as a job, imagine doing those lactates.
- 1:02:32Hard work. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:34I'm sorry. I would far rather sit in an
- 1:02:35office. And I'm, I'm like, she's gaining
- 1:02:39all of this recognition and she's winning these titles
- 1:02:43because of the hard work she's doing.
- 1:02:45And it's very easy to forget that.
- 1:02:46And it's also so like, again, commending her because she has.
- 1:02:51All of these brand deals, she has all of this attention on
- 1:02:53social media and she will still go and bin herself on the OH.
- 1:02:56Yeah, yeah, yeah, which is yeah, yeah, so so yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:00However, we were going to come back round to the grandma gears,
- 1:03:03so there's a few put on there this week by me.
- 1:03:09I'm a bit scared of your first one.
- 1:03:10I'm just the. First, the first one I'm going
- 1:03:12to talk about delicately because I saw something on social media
- 1:03:16this week which was about high rocks and it was some
- 1:03:18flamboyance in high rocks. I think is the most appropriate
- 1:03:21way to say it because I have, I'm so unbothered about the way
- 1:03:27that people dress, the way that people act, what their sexuality
- 1:03:30is. I honestly, whatever floats your
- 1:03:33boat. And as long as you're having a
- 1:03:34good time, I'm having a good time for the most part.
- 1:03:38OK. However, in this video, it was a
- 1:03:41video of someone who I think was doing a double S race.
- 1:03:44I'd seen footage of them doing a double S race and like while
- 1:03:47their partners wall walling like doing slut drops, enjoying the
- 1:03:50music like it is what it is, kind of funny, whatever.
- 1:03:53However, I then actually saw another video of that person,
- 1:03:56this time seemingly doing a solo race.
- 1:03:57Or maybe their partner just wasn't in shock, but like doing
- 1:04:01the burpees rolling around on the floor, literally dry humping
- 1:04:04the floor and like doing all that.
- 1:04:06And I'm I'm like, no, Because if, if something like spitting
- 1:04:10on the floor or pouring water over your head is enough to get
- 1:04:13you a penalty, then that in a public place where there are
- 1:04:16families with children as well, like you wouldn't do that on a
- 1:04:19playground. So don't do it at high rocks.
- 1:04:22I don't think there's a place for that.
- 1:04:23And I think that should at least be a penalty.
- 1:04:25Not even I'm not saying they should be disqualified.
- 1:04:27Like I said, they can enjoy themselves But like someone
- 1:04:29should go over and say look. I'm also like competition.
- 1:04:34Yeah. Why have you?
- 1:04:36What? It's just a different mindset,
- 1:04:38isn't it? Why have you paid money to do
- 1:04:39this? If you like, I'm not going to
- 1:04:41push yourself. To be honest, I think there's a
- 1:04:42reason I saw it on social media. I would argue that it was
- 1:04:46probably all being done because there was a camera on them and
- 1:04:48they probably wouldn't if. It.
- 1:04:49Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's just one of those tough
- 1:04:52things. And it it just it it it was
- 1:04:54grinding all my gears. I don't have a problem with each
- 1:04:56of the individual elements. I just have a problem with all
- 1:04:58of those things happening in that place in front of certain
- 1:05:00people that might be very, very young.
- 1:05:02And it's just not like the best image.
- 1:05:05Yeah. Really.
- 1:05:06Yeah. So that's that's the first one I
- 1:05:08mentioned Cheats. There's been people cheating
- 1:05:12I've seen at high risk this weekend, but I'll let you go
- 1:05:14over you've already mentioned nail silence been scary.
- 1:05:18My next one, mine are always so niche and I'm like, no one's
- 1:05:21going to be able to relate to these.
- 1:05:23But people who train with their phone and their keys in their
- 1:05:28pocket, that just winds me up for that for their sake.
- 1:05:34Like how? How are you doing a workout with
- 1:05:39your keys in your pocket? Keys is crazy.
- 1:05:42Even running with my keys pisses me off.
- 1:05:44So I there's no if you think. Burpee with the keys in your
- 1:05:48pocket. That's painful, it's loud, it's
- 1:05:50annoying, it's just dumb. But I will often get to the gym,
- 1:05:54start doing something, then be like my phone's in my pocket.
- 1:05:57Yeah, Well, that's really that's because.
- 1:05:58I'll have a bar and I'll be hitting.
- 1:05:59My phone, but then it's like you'd take your phone out, you
- 1:06:03wouldn't then continue to have your phone in your pocket.
- 1:06:05Real real side question, what do you do with your phone when you
- 1:06:08take it out? Well, I have the luxury of not
- 1:06:10training in a commercial gym. So what do you?
- 1:06:12Do I just put it on the side? You you walk over and you put it
- 1:06:15down carefully. Yeah, that's so rogue.
- 1:06:18Everyone knows that when you're you just drop it, you take it
- 1:06:20out, you drop it on your hoodie, drop it on your foot or your
- 1:06:22hoodie. I don't know why that's
- 1:06:24acceptable. Everyone does it.
- 1:06:26And then you do a couple of laps around like the 1m radius of the
- 1:06:29machine and then you sit back down and you do everyday.
- 1:06:33By the liquid shorts, so the only issue.
- 1:06:35That I've got at the moment and this is attached to one of my
- 1:06:38big grind my gears this week, which is thieves.
- 1:06:40OK. I at the moment have been
- 1:06:43training with my phone in my pocket.
- 1:06:45OK, not because I think someone's going to steal my
- 1:06:47phone, but because I'm currently using wired headphones.
- 1:06:50Oh no, because someone stole your Airpods.
- 1:06:53Someone stole my Airpods I was at.
- 1:06:55Wired headphones are cool. I was at Harris this weekend, by
- 1:06:58the way. This is all initially my fault.
- 1:07:01OK, so I was wearing the hoodie I'm currently wearing now, and
- 1:07:04in that hoodie pocket was my Airpods.
- 1:07:06In my Airpods case and a lens cap off one of my cameras,
- 1:07:11annoying me actually off a lens that I was hiring for the
- 1:07:14weekend, but I got really hot because I was running around.
- 1:07:17Those of you that have seen me working at one of those events
- 1:07:19know that I run around. I threw the hoodie over my
- 1:07:22shoulder. I put the bag down.
- 1:07:24I came back, I threw the hoodie back over my shoulder.
- 1:07:26Got to the end of this race, I'd cooled down a bit, put on my
- 1:07:29hoodie, I must have put my Airpods in that lens cap
- 1:07:32somewhere. Checking my bag nowhere great,
- 1:07:35it's fallen out. Retrace my steps, nothing Ask
- 1:07:38every single head judge on every station because I'm thinking
- 1:07:41logically that's who you're going to give it to.
- 1:07:43Which the member of staff went to the help desk because anyone
- 1:07:45handed it in No, they took my details, we'll call you when
- 1:07:48someone hands it in I'm thinking do you know what?
- 1:07:50For the most part apart from 2 toxic people on a podcast
- 1:07:53everyone's really lovely and a higher ups and they'll hand
- 1:07:55things in. Never got handed in so now I'm a
- 1:07:59grind. Your gear.
- 1:08:00You're wearing a phone. You're you're assuming.
- 1:08:02That someone stole it. Yeah, because I, I mean, I was
- 1:08:05also in the venue when it was empty that night, so I could
- 1:08:08walk around and see everything. I thought you were going to see
- 1:08:10someone pickpocket to you. Well, it is your own fault,
- 1:08:13honestly. There is actually.
- 1:08:15Never put anything precious in your hoodie pocket.
- 1:08:17I I'm aware unless there's zip. I'm aware and one of the things
- 1:08:21that's really annoying about it is I also because I hate to be
- 1:08:25the person that I would blame. I actually think there is a
- 1:08:29chance that someone took them because I did put my bag down
- 1:08:32and my hoodie down and take a photo, came back and that's when
- 1:08:35I realized it was gone. And I feel like I would have
- 1:08:37noticed the weight change when I was carrying it initially anyway
- 1:08:39at that point. So who knows?
- 1:08:41Who knows someone? Has got my airpods and that make
- 1:08:44them a thief. There you go, but I think
- 1:08:47thieves in general are a grind my gear.
- 1:08:49I'm going to level it up. Oh God, I was very fortunate,
- 1:08:52actually, in an unfortunate sense, to do some work with my
- 1:08:55protein. Yep, on Monday and that was
- 1:08:58cool, but it was also disastrous and I felt awful for even being
- 1:09:01there. The reason that I was there is
- 1:09:03that a friend of mine and also another camera wizard was in a
- 1:09:09cafe 20 minutes before the shoot and their entire petty case of
- 1:09:13lenses and multiple cameras got nicked by someone sat next to
- 1:09:16them that made a distraction and midway and they didn't notice
- 1:09:18for like 10 minutes that their whole thing had been taken.
- 1:09:21Just so got into perspective how much a lens costs.
- 1:09:23So all I'll say is that I know that that petty case with
- 1:09:27everything in it was 10s of thousands of.
- 1:09:28Pounds. Literally.
- 1:09:29Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like 1 lens can cost a couple of
- 1:09:32grams. Yeah.
- 1:09:33So that's, that's so to and like also direct impact on business.
- 1:09:38Yeah. But if that happened livelihood
- 1:09:39and I had a shoot that day, I've lost that.
- 1:09:41And also I don't know 100% if my insurance is going to cover it.
- 1:09:45I've got to deal with the police first.
- 1:09:46Like for the week I'll probably need to cool off shoots.
- 1:09:49And then also your relationship with the person you have to
- 1:09:51shoot with, you've just let them down.
- 1:09:52So it's like potential business. It's yeah, it's a nightmare.
- 1:09:55That's so yeah, Not in my good books this week for sure, but
- 1:09:59we'll see again next week. Next week I'm going to do one
- 1:10:01more and I'm going to follow that first one.
- 1:10:04Wasn't that niche? This one is super niche.
- 1:10:06OK, let's say we're doing a partner work out together.
- 1:10:08You've just seen what I've. Written.
- 1:10:09I've seen another one, yeah. Let's say we're doing a partner
- 1:10:12workout together, and part of the partner workout is an Echo
- 1:10:16bike. We have to accumulate X amount
- 1:10:18of calories. You're on the Echo bike, you're
- 1:10:21smashing it, going really fast. I'm standing behind the Echo
- 1:10:24bike ready to get on. How do you get off the Echo
- 1:10:28bike? Not to put you on the spot, I.
- 1:10:33Don't. I don't know what you're.
- 1:10:34I won't put you no. No, no, put me on the spot.
- 1:10:37Yeah, I'm getting off left, OK. And as I get off left, I'm
- 1:10:41actually pushing the handle. So the IT keeps going, keeps
- 1:10:45going for a second. So you can.
- 1:10:46You're in my good books. OK, cool.
- 1:10:47So obviously when you get off the echo bike, the pedals keep
- 1:10:51turning and the handles keep going.
- 1:10:53So you've got off left and I'm standing behind.
- 1:10:55As the pedals go background, I can step on, catch the pedal and
- 1:10:59continue to go. If you're inexperienced or just
- 1:11:04an idiot, you'll stop your pedals.
- 1:11:08I didn't. Know if people did that?
- 1:11:09You'll get off and now I have to get on.
- 1:11:12And start the whole thing. Again and expend X amount of
- 1:11:16glycogen reserves. 10 calories to get that.
- 1:11:19So get that going again. So I'm like, yeah, it's yeah.
- 1:11:23That's and that's so niche, but that's something that you can
- 1:11:26learn from when you do your next pipe.
- 1:11:27For myself, a few times in workouts with the echo, but
- 1:11:29where I try and get off it and leave the pedals so they'll
- 1:11:32finish in a certain position, I get on, I jump on and I'll like
- 1:11:35go for it. And I miss the pedals I've got
- 1:11:38missing here on my Shin's trying to slice.
- 1:11:40Up, but one of the best ones that I did was at turf games and
- 1:11:43there was like a run and then you got back to whoever in your
- 1:11:46team got back first could start the C2 bike.
- 1:11:49I've got like the whole of the gym standing there supporting.
- 1:11:52I've run so hard I'm the first one back in all of the lanes.
- 1:11:57I jump onto the back of the C2 bike to mount it and I just land
- 1:12:02like straight on my balls on the saddle obviously like what else
- 1:12:06was I expecting to happen? I hear people groan behind me,
- 1:12:11but I'm like, they've obviously clocked that I've done that.
- 1:12:14They're like, oh, and I'm like, I'm not turning around and I'm
- 1:12:18not stopping. But that was that was up there
- 1:12:21with one of the most painful experiences in my life.
- 1:12:23Horrible. I got off at the end.
- 1:12:25They're like, I was like, no, I was fine, fine.
- 1:12:28I've been assaulted by a bike before at the other end and God,
- 1:12:31that's uncomfortable. But I didn't react because a car
- 1:12:34was behind me and I you, they saw it and I'm like, I'm.
- 1:12:36Fine, I'm fine. You can't.
- 1:12:38And you've got you've got another one on here which I want
- 1:12:41to know about. Oh no.
- 1:12:43Yeah, the one below training with phone or keys in a pocket.
- 1:12:47I was saving that one. I've got to talk about it now.
- 1:12:50It's jokes. It's funny that we haven't
- 1:12:53discussed our crime like is before this.
- 1:12:55OK, what grinds my gears, whether this is rational or not,
- 1:12:59is people who read the Nando's menu because.
- 1:13:03You just should know what you're going to have.
- 1:13:05Yeah, down to the. OK, right.
- 1:13:07Here's 10 seconds, 321-GO double chicken wrap, halloumi and then
- 1:13:13Perry salted fries. What temperature are you going
- 1:13:15for The? Perry Tamer.
- 1:13:17It's like that BBQ one. I think that's ended that
- 1:13:19conversation there, actually, because you've just gone Perry
- 1:13:22tamer. Tamer's goated.
- 1:13:24Just BBQ. You can tell this podcast why
- 1:13:27Kanye. Jesus Christ.
- 1:13:29Hold this evening. I'll take it.
- 1:13:30Boiled chicken. That's where I just, I actually
- 1:13:33found I've got like 3 different orders and then you put me on
- 1:13:35the spot so so I don't even need the menu and I've got three
- 1:13:38different options. It depends what mood I'm in.
- 1:13:40I. Actually did have to read the
- 1:13:41menu recently. The men's What training is like
- 1:13:43climbing? Nanos have have you seen?
- 1:13:44Nanos have really been changing up how you can order.
- 1:13:47This is actually a grown idea. Oh God, wow, how have we got
- 1:13:50here? I've got another one.
- 1:13:52So there are certain things on the Nando's menu you can't order
- 1:13:55with one side really. So you can only order things
- 1:13:58like a sunset burger, which is arguably one of the best things
- 1:14:01on the menu with two sides. And the problem is then I like
- 1:14:05having so I've I've liked Frankenstein, my own meal.
- 1:14:08I'll have like 4 chicken thighs because then if I get garlic
- 1:14:11bread, I can make sandwich nice. But sometimes I'm just like
- 1:14:14sunset burger just fucking slaps.
- 1:14:16So I want that. But then because I want I love
- 1:14:19the mash is underrated, so underrated.
- 1:14:22And obviously I'm going to get Perry sorted chips.
- 1:14:23But then there's like other things.
- 1:14:25I eat some mash and chips. That's the thing, I can't do
- 1:14:28that, but like I can if I get a third side.
- 1:14:31So if I get broccoli, it's kind of OK.
- 1:14:32Now what I used to do, I used to do was get a kids meal with
- 1:14:37three chicken wings, broccoli and chips.
- 1:14:39And then I used to have the mash on the side of my sunset burger,
- 1:14:41which is one side. That way I get a small amount of
- 1:14:44chips, which makes it OK. I get my healthiness in the
- 1:14:46broccoli, which by the way, is just covered in oil and taste
- 1:14:48delicious. Garlicky oil in.
- 1:14:49It and then I got 3 chicken drumsticks that chicken wings to
- 1:14:53go with my sunset burger which is the perfect ratio of chicken
- 1:14:56to carb to veg. And then they bastardized the
- 1:14:59menu and they got rid of the chicken wings off the kids menu.
- 1:15:01Shame. And it's throwing the whole
- 1:15:04thing out of whack because I also can only get two sides with
- 1:15:07a sunset burger. And I'm like, if I'm going to do
- 1:15:08that, then I'll just get my thighs and I have two extra
- 1:15:10piece of chicken. I love how passionate that was,
- 1:15:14but also the Sunset Burger I. Don't think I breathed.
- 1:15:17Once you didn't, I was like, when will this end?
- 1:15:20The Sunset Burger does not travel well.
- 1:15:22That's all I'll say. If you're getting it delivered,
- 1:15:24do not get the Sunset burger because and like the cheese and
- 1:15:28everything, just everywhere. Yeah, it is.
- 1:15:31It is crazy if you're in a house.
- 1:15:32Also severely underrated sweet potato wedges.
- 1:15:36I'm not even a little bit underrated.
- 1:15:37I love them if they're. A starter have them as a side
- 1:15:40for sure. Another reason I would want to
- 1:15:42make the. Salumi sticks as well.
- 1:15:44They're just. Expensive, I give you that.
- 1:15:47I for sure give you that. I think we could talk about
- 1:15:50Nando's for a long time. What's so?
- 1:15:51Funny is in every episode recently, we've been like, we
- 1:15:54can talk about this for so long and it's been about something
- 1:15:56really specific and niche in sport and performance and we're
- 1:15:58now talking about Nando's. I also because I was I re
- 1:16:01listened to the Charlie's second episode on the way here actually
- 1:16:05I feel like we cut short the meal deal bit and that was the
- 1:16:10bit that he wants to go in on the most I feel like.
- 1:16:13So we need to do another episode.
- 1:16:14Where guys, if you want Charlie back to really go in on the meal
- 1:16:17deals, we will do a full episode on meal deals.
- 1:16:19Do you know what else Charlie loves?
- 1:16:21Mando's my guy, of course he does.
- 1:16:23So we can get. Charlie back on who I know is
- 1:16:25listening to We will. Not do any training chat.
- 1:16:27I promise, Charlie, it will just be yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:30Nutrition because nice, yeah, because I feel us just talking
- 1:16:34about meal deals isn't the same as an elite level athlete
- 1:16:37helping us out and. People don't believe that elite
- 1:16:39athletes know exactly what they're getting from McDonald's,
- 1:16:41but they do. Let's bring it back to talk a
- 1:16:44little bit about performance. Called you this week.
- 1:16:46Did your race in a fancy pair of socks?
- 1:16:50Yeah, the high socks. How do they perform for you?
- 1:16:52I love them. Honestly love them.
- 1:16:55Super grippy, super comfortable, my favorite feature.
- 1:16:58Obviously they're grippy on the bottom with like rubber grippy a
- 1:17:00bit like a reformer Pilates socks.
- 1:17:03So like there was no slipping on any of the sleds, which I'd
- 1:17:06actually had previously pulling the sled.
- 1:17:08None of that. But my favorite feature.
- 1:17:11I don't know if this is something that they make a big
- 1:17:13point of. It's got like a thin mesh on the
- 1:17:17top of the sock, the breathability unrivalled.
- 1:17:20And I never thought I'd love that in a sock, but it looks
- 1:17:23great. And it also is, it's just a nice
- 1:17:25it's it's that's something that I didn't think that I needed
- 1:17:29that maybe potentially I thought was a bit gimmicky.
- 1:17:31I'm going to say it, I'm going to be honest.
- 1:17:33But then I used it and I was proved completely wrong and I
- 1:17:36loved them. And what I also like that you
- 1:17:37just mentioned there is that it's similar to Pilates sock.
- 1:17:40They are better than Pilates socks and I'm telling you what,
- 1:17:43you can get a better deal. So there you can use the code
- 1:17:47mindsets 15 to get 15% off at checkout.
- 1:17:50That is mindset 15 at checkout. That gives us a bit of love but
- 1:17:54also gets you a little bit of love on your feet.
- 1:17:57Whether you are doing high rocks or Pilates or you're just
- 1:17:59running around your house and you don't have slippers, they're
- 1:18:02really good. They also have over well.
- 1:18:05They have podium chaser caps. They've got all sorts going on
- 1:18:07with nose tape, that kind. Of thing, I will be wearing my
- 1:18:09podium chaser cap this Friday evening at 6:10.
- 1:18:12Racing again this week. OK, so the guy on the podium
- 1:18:14chaser hat who is chasing the podium is him.
- 1:18:18And if you want a bit about love, then yeah, Mindset 15.
- 1:18:20Help us out and let us know what you order.
- 1:18:23We'll share that on our stories. Just tag us away.
- 1:18:26Now we're going to move into the game.
- 1:18:28I've made the game up this week. I hope it's a banger of a game.
- 1:18:32Feel free to play along at home or wherever you are listening.
- 1:18:36But before we do so, I've got one small request.
- 1:18:38I'm going to get this in here now guys, I wasn't aware of this
- 1:18:41properly but you can follow us on Spotify and that actually
- 1:18:44does a lot for us. Didn't realise the gravity of
- 1:18:46the situation. But imagine subscribing on
- 1:18:49YouTube, which if you don't don't have to imagine it, go and
- 1:18:52do it. We appreciate it.
- 1:18:53But same thing happens on Spotify with following and that
- 1:18:57actually gets us a lot of recognition and pushes us up to
- 1:19:00more people for you guys to have more friends.
- 1:19:02We get more gram ideas. The whole show just becomes
- 1:19:04funnier and better, a better listening or viewing experience
- 1:19:08for you. So if you're not already
- 1:19:09subscribe notifications on, drop us a comment.
- 1:19:12Like all of that stuff. If you're on YouTube, if you're
- 1:19:14on Spotify, drop us a follow, give us a rating, ID the five
- 1:19:18stars, please. And then I'll have to also ask
- 1:19:21you to do this last because we'll have more people doing it.
- 1:19:24Imagine you're the subscriber that takes us to a certain point
- 1:19:27where we can. 500 by the way, 500 is is the the goal for the
- 1:19:30year currently at 4:05. Yeah, we're actually smashing
- 1:19:33that. But imagine you're at the point
- 1:19:35where you subscribe, you follow us on Spotify, and that's the
- 1:19:39reason we can get Keely Hodgkinson on to actually
- 1:19:41discuss her training. If.
- 1:19:43Do you know what? We don't even have to speculate.
- 1:19:44She's going to tell us. I'll.
- 1:19:45Look at the notifications and for the people that are around
- 1:19:48that, I'll give you the credit when the episode happens, Keely
- 1:19:51will give you. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:52How's that? There we go.
- 1:19:54Anyway, on with the game. So in this game, you're going to
- 1:19:57be building the ideal athlete. OK, Now this athlete is going to
- 1:20:02compete in. Multiple events.
- 1:20:06OK OK, so they're going to be doing the CrossFit Open, right?
- 1:20:09They're going to be doing the Horowitz World Championships.
- 1:20:10Nice. They're going to be running a
- 1:20:11marathon. Cool.
- 1:20:13OK, Then they're going to be doing AT-100 triathlon.
- 1:20:17Sounds a lot like me. OK, there we go.
- 1:20:20So what you're going to do is you have a budget of £100, OK,
- 1:20:24each thing, and I'll run through the things, has a top tier of 30
- 1:20:29lbs. Oh nice, a middle tier of 20 lbs
- 1:20:31and a bottom tier of £10. You get to choose your athlete
- 1:20:34for that part of your body, right?
- 1:20:36OK, so we're going to go through, I like it, parts of the
- 1:20:39athlete. So we're going to start off, and
- 1:20:41I'm not going to give you the names just yet, but you're going
- 1:20:43to start off with legs, right? The next thing is going to be
- 1:20:47your engine. OK.
- 1:20:48Next thing is going to be your speed?
- 1:20:50Nice. Next thing is your upper body.
- 1:20:53OK, Next is mindset. I love that.
- 1:20:56And then the last one is your injury likelihood.
- 1:20:58Oh, cool. OK, OK, so starting with legs,
- 1:21:02and I'm not going to give you all of the athletes across all
- 1:21:04of them. We're going to go.
- 1:21:05So I've got £100 budget. How many?
- 1:21:06How many? So 6 sections.
- 1:21:09So if I was to go top budget for all of them, I'd spend £180.
- 1:21:13OK, fine. If you went middle budget for
- 1:21:15all of them, you're still over spending slightly.
- 1:21:17OK, that's good to know. Wait, middle budget was 20?
- 1:21:19Yeah. Oh yeah, you're still spending
- 1:21:20over. OK, cool.
- 1:21:22Easy. Right.
- 1:21:23So legs. Legs.
- 1:21:25Saquon Barkley, Nice big running back.
- 1:21:28NFL 20 lbs. David Beckham.
- 1:21:31OK, 10 lbs. Eddie Hall.
- 1:21:36Based off the events that I'm competing in.
- 1:21:40Wait, actually, we've got CrossFit, don't we?
- 1:21:44Oh, no, I was, I was, I was surefire going DB, but maybe I
- 1:21:49want Saquon Barkley now. I'm going to stick with my guns.
- 1:21:55I'm going to go middle tier. David Beckham, 20 pounds, 80
- 1:21:59lbs. That's a bargain.
- 1:22:00That's a bargain for David Beckham's legs engine.
- 1:22:03OK. That's the pounds big one.
- 1:22:05Tie the Gadger. OK.
- 1:22:07Nice 20 lbs Charlie Bottle, That's a bargain. 10 lbs.
- 1:22:14Keely Hodgkinson, I mean. Based off the events that I'm
- 1:22:22doing, I've got to do T100, I've got to run a marathon today.
- 1:22:29Pugacha seems like a good time to spend top tier money on this.
- 1:22:35Bear in mind, after two out of six, you just spent half your
- 1:22:37budget. Yeah, but engine for these
- 1:22:40events is a big one. OK, but also like the events
- 1:22:45that I'm doing, Charlie's very specific to he'd be good at the
- 1:22:50cross to open, he'd be exceptional at the the High
- 1:22:54Rocks world champs. He'd probably be damn bloody
- 1:22:57good at running a marathon and he'll get through.
- 1:23:02I'm going to play it safe and I'm going to save the 10th Nah
- 1:23:05today for catchers like the guy I'm no, I'm going to be
- 1:23:10sensible, stick with my head. I'm going to go Charlie bottle a
- 1:23:14bargain of £20. I think that's money well spent.
- 1:23:17I think, I think that was it was going to be really between one
- 1:23:21of those two and I think you have to go with Charlie.
- 1:23:24You have to, yeah, Yeah. Speed.
- 1:23:27Here we go. 30 lbs Elliot Kipchogi.
- 1:23:31Nice. 20 lbs Usain Bolt. Yeah. 10 lbs.
- 1:23:38Andy Murray. God, I was.
- 1:23:40I was just going to say out because the speed thing, you've
- 1:23:44given me two different scales, but I'm, I'm trying to do good
- 1:23:48at endurance events. I don't need Usain Bolt speed.
- 1:23:53I was, I was going to say that speed is almost irrelevant for
- 1:23:57this and I was going to just shout out £10 before you even
- 1:24:01said who the 10 lbs was, but now you said Andy Murray.
- 1:24:06I've never seen the guy run further than 5 meters.
- 1:24:10It's tough to the net, but if I spend what am I on now?
- 1:24:16You spend £40, you got 60 left. Think how good I'm going to be
- 1:24:20at the marathon. Think about that Instagram post.
- 1:24:23Think about Elliot. Yeah, if I have his speed, I'm
- 1:24:28beating Hugo Fry. I'll be the fastest influencer.
- 1:24:32I'm beating everyone speed though for high rocks.
- 1:24:39Bear in mind that you're not actually getting any of the
- 1:24:41person trait of the person. You're not going to have their
- 1:24:43legs. You've already got your legs.
- 1:24:44It's just what is the speed potential of those legs?
- 1:24:48I don't so the top speed. I don't love the other two for
- 1:24:52my athletic escapades. Bear in mind what we've got left
- 1:24:57is upper body mindset and injury likelihood.
- 1:25:01Yeah, I'm, I'm going to, I'm going to drop £30 here.
- 1:25:04You're going for idiot Kopchogi. But then I then I have to do
- 1:25:09bottom tier for. All of them I'll offer you.
- 1:25:16Oh no, a loan? An extra 10 lbs on your budget
- 1:25:20for what? Just because you're a nice guy.
- 1:25:23To open, yeah, to open up the extra.
- 1:25:27Yeah, I'm, I don't have to ask me twice.
- 1:25:29Yeah, I'm taking, I'm taking the extra tenner.
- 1:25:32OK. That's good for me.
- 1:25:34All right, so if are you looking very good, I'm incredible.
- 1:25:38Upper body irrelevant. Larry Wheels for 30, Serena
- 1:25:43Williams for 20. OK or Luke Littler for 10.
- 1:25:48That's funny, I forgot that I'm doing CrossFit.
- 1:25:51Yeah, I have definitely worse upper body strength than Luke
- 1:25:57Littler, and I managed to do the open.
- 1:25:58OK, his upper body dexterity, an ability to maybe like, learn how
- 1:26:06to ring muscle up or double under could be unrivaled.
- 1:26:10He's Acura. He's one of his hands.
- 1:26:12Very, very good at darts maths and it's kind of funny.
- 1:26:17I think the upper body one for all of the other vents is like
- 1:26:21not necessarily that important. I'm going to wait.
- 1:26:30How much money have I got left? I've got. £40 left. £40 Left 3.
- 1:26:35Events Serena Williams would be strong.
- 1:26:42I'm, I'm going to, I'm going to save my money and, and take
- 1:26:45Glistler's upper body strength there.
- 1:26:47It's it's not even upper body strength.
- 1:26:49So it's just his upper body. Oh, no, yeah.
- 1:26:52I'm taking it. OK, this is this is an
- 1:26:56interesting build. OK, this is big. 130 lbs.
- 1:27:01David Gobgins. Yeah. 20 lbs Me OK 10 lbs Elsa
- 1:27:09Bovink for reference. If you've already forgotten who
- 1:27:13that is, that's the CrossFit of the cheats.
- 1:27:16She's going to find a way to win and I've got not much money
- 1:27:22left. You don't.
- 1:27:23You've got £30. And one more section after this,
- 1:27:28Yeah. And it's injury, propensity to
- 1:27:30injury it is. I'm going to take you.
- 1:27:32I'm going to spend £20 only. £20 which leaves you £20 injury
- 1:27:37likelihood 30 lbs LeBron James OK, 20 lbs TA Claire Toomey OK
- 1:27:44and then for £10. Well, I can't take either of
- 1:27:45those. I've only got a tenner left.
- 1:27:47I thought you spent 20 on the last one.
- 1:27:49Didn't you have £40 left? Did I?
- 1:27:52No, you didn't, no. Yeah.
- 1:27:53So unfortunately, you're left with the injury prophecy of Jack
- 1:27:57Wiltshire, Derrick Rose and yourself.
- 1:28:01That's it. Couldn't be worse.
- 1:28:03So I'm not doing any of these events.
- 1:28:05You'll turn up to one or two. Oh no.
- 1:28:09So to to summarize. I've got an incredible athlete.
- 1:28:12You haven't, just you. Just can't do anything.
- 1:28:15So you've got David Beckham's legs, you've got Charlie
- 1:28:18Bottle's engine, you have Elie Kopchogi's speed, you have the
- 1:28:22upper body of Luke Littler, you have the mindset of me and you
- 1:28:27have the injury likelihood of yourself.
- 1:28:31What a shame. It's it was going so well.
- 1:28:34It's like owning a Bugatti and not only the key, I can't start
- 1:28:38it. Yeah, you could have had Usain
- 1:28:41Bolt or Randy Murray's speed and you could have at.
- 1:28:42Least Yeah, yeah, I would say tears.
- 1:28:45Tears solid. Yeah, she just gets.
- 1:28:47Pregnant a lot. There you go.
- 1:28:48I mean, there's no there's no real decider if you're a winner
- 1:28:51or a loser there. I imagine someone listening did
- 1:28:53better if if you think you got the perfect athlete out all
- 1:28:56those options genuinely, whether you're on Spotify because you
- 1:28:59can do that as well, or YouTube, drop a comment or send us a
- 1:29:02measure on Instagram because I would love to see the athletes
- 1:29:04that you guys built and maybe we can discuss those or maybe
- 1:29:07they'll even provoke more people for us to talk about their
- 1:29:09training programs. I for one would love to see
- 1:29:12Eddie Hall with Keely Hodgkinson's Intensity is an
- 1:29:16Engine with Ellie Kachogi speaking Oh my God and the upper
- 1:29:20body of Luke Litter. As well, I think we should break
- 1:29:22down Luke's training plan. I actually have seen it.
- 1:29:26Have you? I know it.
- 1:29:27Oh, this is pretty wild. It's a lot of gaming.
- 1:29:29It's it's a lot of gaming. Darts.
- 1:29:31Yeah, yeah. But yeah, guys, if you haven't
- 1:29:34already, obviously we've asked if you could do us the absolute
- 1:29:37pleasure. It means a lot more than you
- 1:29:38know. And I believe, correct me if I'm
- 1:29:40wrong, Charles, it's actually free to subscribe and follow SO.
- 1:29:43It'd be more free. It's literally the cost of maybe
- 1:29:460.1 calories to move your thumb over to that button.
- 1:29:49We would really really appreciate it.
- 1:29:50Likewise, if you could follow at Mindsets, under Score Podcast,
- 1:29:53on Instagram and on Tic Talk or anywhere else, share all the
- 1:29:56reels with your friends like them as well, that would be huge
- 1:30:00for the program. Other than that though, anything
- 1:30:03else from you? Thanks for listening.
- 1:30:05Amazing. We will see you guys in the next
- 1:30:07episode.
